Great for these types of students

engineering students. students who can not afford $ 17,000 or greater schools/year. Who just love a great campus.

    Tips for prospective students

A very important thing is balancing academics and your personal life. Sometimes students need to be selfish when it comes to academics and classes. Always remain goal oriented.

    Bang for the buck

It is a great place to be, especially in the Midwest region. I love the intramural sports and the wellness center. The library is a great place to study and then come back to my apartment to relax with friends.

    Am enjoying being here

The wellness center is a great place to get rid of stress. I have made a lot of friends since I have become a student at NDSU. There are always events on campus going on. Very affordable.

    Am learning a lot

There are plenty of majors and classes to select from. NDSU does a very good job of keeping classes interesting and very informative. I believe that the classes I take from my major are very crucial part of class and I love taking them.

    Campus Safety

    Top-notch.

    Clubs and Activities

Tons and tons and tons of clubs/activities. An activity fair is hosted each year, about twice a year just so you can get a real in-depth look at each club and see what you're most interested in.

Great for these types of students

    Friendly, determined, hard-working, happy-go-lucky students.

    Bang for the buck

NDSU is not the costliest of colleges, but you really do get your bang for your buck. It is in a semi-rural area, the professors are very knowledgeable, and the people are just so friendly and welcoming. A great investment for any student.

    What to do for fun

Attend sporting events! (especially Bison football games), join clubs/programs, rollerblade or bike around campus, visit the Wellness Center to either work-out or rock climb or even take part in one of the fitness classes such as Zumba!

    Food and Dining

The dining centers at NDSU offer students with plenty of variety and the menus for each dining center are posted online each day so you can figure out which meal best suits you for the day. Very convenient, not too costly, and the food is definitely good!

    Dorm Life

The high-rises are a great option. Pavek, Seim, Sevrionson, or Thompson are all nice options to live during your first, second, or third/fourth years if you chose to do so. The other older dormitories are also a great choice because they are located next to frequently visited buildings which makes it easy for students. The LLC apartments are very fancy and absolutely beautiful.

    Academic Rigor

North Dakota State University offers plenty of options for a major to pursue, and although I am only closely familiar with the rigor of my own major, Nursing, I feel confident in saying that each major challenges students to their full potential and makes sure they turn into successful adults with successful careers.

    Tips for prospective students

One tip for prospective students is to take a tour of NDSU with an open mind, and to explore your options with majors and find what works best for you. There is excellent staff on campus that can help you with essentially any problem that can come your way. A second tip is to make sure you branch out and join some clubs or programs here at NDSU, there is tons and tons to chose from!

    In three sentences

North Dakota State University is an excellent university with so much to offer. Not only is the campus beautifully landscaped and incredibly inviting, the professors and the educational experience a student receives here is worth every penny. Not the most well known college, but it is a very inviting university that any student can call home and receive a beyond excellent education from as well.

Great for these types of students

This college is not just for specific students. If you are not sure what you are going into, then go here and take some generals and find out what you want to be. Then go from there.

    Bang for the buck

The money you pay will be worth it in the long run. Just as long as you try as hard as you can, then you can succeed and make enough money to pay off any money you borrowed. I believe its worth spending money on college, because college will be very beneficial later in life.

    Will enjoy being here

I do think I will enjoy being here because I love going to Fargo as it is and I have been to tour the college and I loved it. Everything I've heard about this school has been positive, which makes me even more excited to go to this college.

    Will learn a lot

I believe that I will learn a lot by trying my hardest and keeping up my good work I've been doing in high school.

    Engineering, Nursing, Architecture, Agriculture, Pharmacy

    Tips for prospective students

Join Greek life! Seriously, It changed my life FOREVER and made me into the leader I am today. I owe so much of my success to my Fraternity, Theta Chi. Be willing to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people and accept other ways of life.

    Bang for the buck

Its much cheaper than my alternative choices, making it worth a look!

    Am enjoying being here

The people in Fargo are wonderful, the community is welcoming and safe. Its got that small town feel with just enough of the city life.

    Am learning a lot

The engineering program here is one of the best in the country! Employers will seek out NDSU students just for going here!

Great for these types of students

I know that NDSU has a great pharmacy program, and I'm not even a pharmacy major! I also know that it has a very competitive architecture and landscape architecture program, but each year they only accept around 60 students to get into the architecture program, and about 20 students for the landscape architecture program, so if you're contemplating that, really keep up on your school work and deadlines!

    Tips for prospective students

Do not procrastinate, and study a lot! Staying on top of things was crucial for my first year, and procrastinating makes things so much harder. Next, if you are trying to decide on bringing your vehicle, do it! You might end up having a few classes downtown, and having a car was really a lot better than riding the bus, plus you don't have to bum rides from your friends when you want to get around.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other colleges and universities, NDSU is a great deal! They really provide you with so many free things, you can't even imagine. The education you get there is really worth your money your spending. Just because it seems like a lot of money now, in the long run it will really help out with your future.

    Am enjoying being here

The area that NDSU is located is great! Just a short walk across campus, I am able to get my work out on at the Wellness Center, for free! The area has a lot of great restaurants located around it, and is only a 10 minute drive from the mall. It's really a beautiful campus, whether it's winter or spring.

    Am learning a lot

Many of my teachers made themselves available to help any time I needed it. Or if they weren't available at the time I needed, I could always count on tutors to help me out. Many of my teachers knew of great extent what they were talking about, and a few tried to make it fun for the students, which I loved !

Great for these types of students

Honestly, it is great for any student no matter what the age. If you like sport, getting involved, parties, live music, movies, inflatable games, wellness, school, or international studies NDSU has it all.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour, it's worth it. You'll never really get the feel unless you come and see the campus for yourself. Don't be afraid to ask question and talk with the professors in charge of the department you want to go in, even if you don't know that's still okay. Most importantly don't be afraid to get involved and meet new people.

    Bang for the buck

At NDSU you get your money's worth from the free busing and all the sport events that NDSU puts on. The food is good and there are three dining centers. It offers a great education for a great price.

    Am enjoying being here

The Fargo area is a beautiful place along with the NDSU campus, and everything is easy to get to with free student busing. There are a lot of clubs and activities to do too, if you're not into that stuff there is the wellness center to get a good work out. The Fargo dome football games are also enjoyable and free for students.

    Am learning a lot

There a lot of courses that are offered at NDSU and all of them have high quality professors that know their stuff. If you like to learn in lecture halls, small classrooms, abroad or hands on NDSU has it. The professors really work with you too and set up review sessions.

    Bang for the buck

NDSU is a school that is well worth its money.

    Am enjoying being here

There is so much stuff to do here on campus. I got into one of the high-risers for my first year and I am loving it. It's like its own little community and there is lots of stuff to do with just your floors as well.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers and TAs you will have here are very helpful. I was worried at first that I would just become a number when I came to such a big school as NDSU, but the teachers know my name and major. It is so much easier to learn when you know that the teachers actually care.

    Campus Safety

I don't see a lot of blue emergence boxes on campus. It make me feel slightly uncomfortable when walking back to my dorm at night. Although, security was super awesome when it came to the dorms. All doors are lock super tight, and you can only get in if you have an Student ID card that's specific for that dorm.

    Greek Life

I'm not apart of greek life, but from what I've seen they seem like a the typical greek frats and sororities. Some frats like to have parties, A LOT. Sororities are more laid back. But I don't really see any crazy shenanigans from them around campus. Like streaking or dressing up the bison statue. I do wish they did more on campus to make themselves more known. Like holding BBqs for everyone and fun events on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

I myself am not apart of any clubs but, I do watch NDSUs To Be Determined (yes that is their name) Improv group. They have a several shows a semester. I think it's the coolest club on campus. There's also several other clubs like Fashion, Video Games, major specific. NDSU even holds a Club Fair once a semester.

Great for these types of students

I think NDSU is a great school for almost every type of student. If you're a shy person who likes to keep to themselves, NDSU might be difficult for you. NDSU is a place where people are always out and about, getting involved and making a difference.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As someone coming from the North West I thought it was unusual for a state university to have a homecoming parade for homecoming weekend. It's truly a sight to see. There's rumors Shepperds Arena has free roaming cats, that are friendly. Also, South Engineering has a double toilet seat on a single toilet in the womens bathroom for no reason.

    Bang for the buck

I wish NDSU offered more of a variety of science classes. I have to take 3 science class, 2 with a lab, and very few interest me. I would like to take Astronomy, but the course is structured on math, which is a subject I can barely understand. The wellness center is an awesome place and I'm glad they have it free for students.

    What to do for fun

NDSU is a large party school, but you can easily steer clear from that crowd. The Union has free feature films every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. NDSU Theatre always has top notch performances. There's rumors tickets will be free for students soon, as for now they're $5. Great price for quality theatre!

    Food and Dining

Food is really good compared to other cafeteria style dining. It has its ups and downs. I don't prefer their asian food, but man is their burger bar the best thing ever. Take advantage of the chocolate milk! And get creative with the grills. There's so much you can make on your own in the dining center! One down side I have is, all the dining centers are closed on the weekend except for The Residence Dining Center. It's a big bummer during the winter. Living in Dinan, I had to get some confidence to make the trek during -40 degrees in January.

    Dorm Life

I lived in Dinan hall this past year. It was kept clean every day, never felt disgusted by my surroundings. RAs and the Hall Directors here all way super friendly. I never felt threatened or intimidated by them. The building was never drafty or freezing cold. Truly a great dorm from my experience.

    Academic Rigor

I haven't taken many classes outside my major, as of yet but, so far I feel like I have been challenged in my gen. ed. courses. English has been a struggle for me and my professor understood that and helped me become a confident writer.

    Tips for prospective students

Sign up for anything as early as you can. Housing, classes, clubs, anything. Try grouping your classes together to make the day go by faster (and more time for studying than having spaced out classes). Don't think you're alone when you first come to NDSU everyone here super friendly, get involved and put yourself out there.

    In three sentences

A great university for anyone looking for the true college experience. Classes are great, engaging, and fun. I truly felt welcomed coming to NDSU, especially as someone outside of the midwest.

Great for these types of students

North Dakota State University is for any student who desires a quality education! There are plenty activities to do and the class sizes are relatively small compared to other universities. If you are looking for an education and don't want to have to take out fifty loans to get an education, check out NDSU. It's a blast!

    Tips for prospective students

My number one tip for attending NDSU is to make sure that you immediately start working hard on studying for classes. The classes are tough compared to high school. The next tip: get involved. There are so many groups at NDSU, there is no way you can't find one that shares common interests with you! There are many sororities and fraternities in addition to clubs ranging from gamers guild to rugby club. If you want to check out what clubs we have just check out this link: http://ndsu.orgsync.com/#search_orgs

    Bang for the buck

The education I have received has definitely exceeded my expectations considering how much I am spending to attend NDSU! There is so much to do and the instructors are easy to talk to, make themselves available to talk anytime, and they do a phenomenal job.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many activities on campus that it's virtually impossible to not make a ton of friends! I enjoy getting together with some friends and going to the Wellness Center to play some racquetball, climb the rock wall, lift weights, play soccer, play volleyball, or just go running on the indoor track.

    Am learning a lot

Some of the Classes may be difficult, but I have learned a lot. Even though I have not taken many classes yet, I am being challenged every day.

Students who really enjoy the social life. To get the most out of your college expenses it is a great idea to utilize the campus sponsored activities and complexes.

    Tips for prospective students

This college is truly a massive one, the campus can be intimidating with its size and class loads. All you have to do is make it through the difficult task of learning the layout of the campus and finding your own pace of scholastics, after that this college becomes your oyster. Apply yourself to as many things as you can! Don't let yourself miss out!

    Bang for the buck

This college has slightly higher expenses but I believe every penny is worth it. NDSU offers so many student opportunities that it seems you are being sincerely under charged.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many opportunities on campus! Greek life, extracurriculars, intramurals, local competitions, dances, meetings and basically anything you can think of! It is absurd how many things you can throw yourself into upon campus, be it musical or theatrical arts, or sports and eating competitions. The campus offers a wide array of free student amenities such as a very well equipped gym and many study areas including a beautiful library and a very social student center.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers employed by this college are truly at the top of their class and provide an excellent learning environment for their students. Classes are difficult and challenging but not terribly frustrating. I leave every class feeling like I actually learned something! I can't say that for every college that I have attended.

NDSU has a great Pharmacy program, but you really have to be motivated in order to get into the program.

    Tips for prospective students

Always make sure you know what you are signing up for and keep good grades in college because one bad grade could hurt you in the future and you would have to retake the class

    Am enjoying being here

I love the events at NDSU especially the sporting events. I don't nessarily enjoy living in the residence halls because I would rather live in my own area where there isn't a public bathroom.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are entirely different than high school. I found out the hard way when I failed one of my classes. I have to study a lot more in college and in return, I learn more information that way. The only thing that sucks the most is that it seems like every class has their grades based on tests which some people may be good students but may be horrible at tests.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for students who like personal attention. They also don't want to be lost in the crowd. NDSU is a great campus to be on and easy to navigate. It is the perfect size of about 14,000, but it feels smaller. You definitely will stand out and be able to make your own path here!

    Tips for prospective students

Take a campus tour! You will fall in love with this campus the moment you step foot here. There are a lot of different organizations, so get involved! Enjoy college and come with an open mind!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition here is reasonable! It is about $7,100 for in-state and it is only around $16,000 for an out-of-state which does not include Minnesota and some of the surrounding states which get their tuition for a little bit more than a ND resident. Teachers here are willing to help and schedule appointments to help you with any troubles you are having in their classes. They make sure all of your questions are answered. They want you to learn and if you ask, they will help!

    Am enjoying being here

I love it on NDSU campus! Everyone is friendly. The atmosphere in the dorms is great, especially the high rise dorms. Classmates are friendly. Remember that you are in a new surrounding and can show who you truly are and find great friends who you will be friends with throughout life! The campus is beautiful and there are so many activities going on to keep you busy and get you involved. Be sure to get involved! It makes a huge difference in how you will experience college, especially your first year when you are still learning.

    Academic Rigor

Professors here are easy to relate to. They offer help constantly, so be sure to ask questions. NDSU is a student-based university where they care about us, before all the fancy awards and recognition. They want us to learn. NDSU is close to the rankings as a high prestigious university like Yale. It’s just cheaper! They offer many programs like pharmacy, architecture, business, agriculture, and many more! Classes move at a fair pace and I have learned a lot in my classes. You will not be disappointed! When you leave NDSU as a graduate you will have new knowledge and know how to conquer in your future profession!

Make sure you have a windbreaker. Your definition of a slight breeze will change. It is almost always good kite flying weather. Don't worry if you do not have a car students can ride the bus for free.

    Am enjoying being here

I love all of the different activities that are available on and around campus. There are a number of different clubs in which students can get involved. The Tri-collage opens even more opportunities to students for class options. If NDSU does not offer a particular class that you are interested in you can take that class from Moorhead State or Concordia.

feel pretty safe. always see the patrol people mulling around campus 24/7. you can even flag them down or call them and they will give you an escorted ride back to dorm without questions.

    Clubs and Activities

too many to count. you name they probably have it. just the other day heard somone talking about a boardgame club. my friend and i have been on rugby and coed football teams.

Great for these types of students

want to learn with a one on one atmosphere and get to know their teachers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

tunnels above and below ground connecting buildings because it gets soooo cold here. last week it was -26*f with an additional wind chill. yep. i used the tunnels.

    Bang for the buck

free movies in the memorial union every week. and most of them are really recent or really good. free bus rides for students to walmart and the mall (whichever you prefer :-) ) free wellness center and classes for students. free laundry for those living in dorms. and an almost endless buffet of food for those on the meal plan. always someone somewhere on campus giving away free t-shirts. free doctor appointments and visits at wellness center. internet service. cheap price for credits when a lot of classes have one on one with the teacher (meaning you will learn and probably retain more information).

    What to do for fun

there are a few campus activities but not much. which is ok if you are like me and taking a million classes that require studying. most of the time it is watching a free movie at the union or working out with friends at their amazing (free for students!) wellness center. they have zumba!! and rock climbing, and indoor tracks.

    Food and Dining

actually really good variety of foods and options. they shut down really early in the evening so there is no chance to snack and you can't bring food back to your dorm. but they are fast acting when it comes to requests and suggestions.

    Dorm Life

dorms are small but nice. the free laundry and attatched dining centers make it worth it. watch out for their pairing system. they seem to have poor luck with matching people together.

    Academic Rigor

general ed classes are about as much as you can expect them to be. the sciences do a decent job keeping your interest and the math classes are pretty tough. the nice thing about it is there seems to always be someone somewhere available to help. if you really want help you will be able to find someone. even if that person is fron a completely different department they are willing to help you out. the majority of staff here at ndsu are really nice.

    Tips for prospective students

talk to everyone you possibly can and ask as many questions as possible. don't get discouraged if someone shoots you down. it rarely happens and you just met the one bad apple out of a thousand good ones. this will not only get you aquanited to college but will give you friends and other's experiences to learn from.

    In three sentences

great campus! great people! not much to do outside of campus though.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

the professors do a great job on teaching the material and giving homework that helps to understand the concepts.

    Tips for prospective students

my tip for a prospective student would be to choose ndsu first before going to another college and then transferring.

    In three sentences

on a scale of 1 out 10 and 10 being the best score, i would rate ndsu a 7. why i gave ndsu a 7 is because tranferring here was a difficult process along not having help from the adminstration made registering classes tough. i think that the teachers and the homework they give makes understanding the courses easier.

    Bang for the buck

some of the course fees are a little high and of course books are always expensive. but compared to the other university i went to it was average.

    What to do for fun

there is a bowling alley and the wellness center that has a lot of things to keep you active and tons of extra-curricular activities as well.

    Food and Dining

i've never eaten on campus but there is an awesome selection of places to choose from. they have a sub shop, taco bell, pizza place and the cafeteria looks like it serves decent food.

    Dorm Life

i live off-campus but took a tour of the dorms, some of the older ones are a little dated but the newer ones are nice and are within a good distance of the mall and places to eat.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are all pretty easy, at least the classes that i've taken. i've never really had a problem with school though so it may be more challenging for others. i took 19 credits fall semester and had 6 a's and 2 b's and i took mid-level classes.

    Tips for prospective students

find your way around before classes start, and make sure you have enough time to make it from class to class especially if you have classes at the downtown campus.

    In three sentences

    Academic Rigor

As a Freshman, I've little experience with upper level rigorous classes, although the ones I've taken thus far live up to the challenge.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn to deal with cold winds. Go explore the campus, there's more than enough to find. Go to Bison events, and join clubs. Essentially, get involved.

    In three sentences

It has a very homey feel to it. The student body and staff make you feel welcome from the day you walk into orientation. I feel proud to be a Bison.

    Campus Safety

There are campus police officers around campus and nothing dangerous has happened since I have attended NDSU. I'm impressed at how friendly the officers are, as they will casually talk to students about any concerns. The numbers for the officers are easily accessible and NDSU sends out monthly emails to ensure that the safety notifications are working well.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life at NDSU strive for quality community service hours. They are friendly and are close friends. I remember one afternoon I walked past a fraternity and they invited me to slack line. I had never even heard of it, but they taught me the basics and invited me to come back again whenever I saw them outside practicing. It surprised me to see how welcoming they are to other students.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and activities at NDSU. Each major has a specific club just for people in that major. There are also several clubs for any sport you can think of, for example broom ball and skiing. There are miscellaneous clubs as well, such as the video game club and chess club. Not only that, but there are clubs for specific religions and diversities, such as the Bison Catholic and the LGBT.

Great for these types of students

Students who enjoy urban areas, yet the small-campus feel. NDSU is located in the largest city in North Dakota, but has a comfortable campus. The classes are also challenging and rewards, so students who aim high, yet do not have the perfect 4.0 GPA fit in perfectly at NDSU. People here want to not only study and succeed, but also meet lifetime friends and have memorable experiences.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At every football game, NDSU Bison fans have this special cheer that they do with their hands. We don't even have to memorize a special slogan. All we have to do is raise our pointer-finger and pinky-finger which resembles a bison's horns, and raise it into the air. It means, Go Bison!

    Bang for the buck

The environment of the campus is spacious, friendly, and comfortable. Fargo, ND often gets below zero degrees in the winter, yet NDSU has managed to help me keep my spirits high and enjoy walking around campus. Also, in each class I definitely feel as though I am getting my money's worth out of my education. There's no where else I'd rather go than NDSU.

    What to do for fun

There's plenty to do on campus. I spend most days at the wellness center where I can run, rock climb, play basketball, lift weights, ride bike, and more. Every week in the Century theater, there is a free movie to go watch and it's always a popular pick. Not only that, but every weekend, there is some kind of event, such as, dancing, bowling, or even group volunteering, that keep me busy.

    Food and Dining

There are three dining centers with a buffet-style set up. They all have a cozy environment in which I can eat either with a bundle of friends or study by myself with a bagel and coffee. Since I spend three meals a day at the dining centers, I'd agree that it's important to love the dining centers and no doubt to I love them!

    Dorm Life

My residence hall is unbelievably fun! I meet new people consistently and I have become good friends with the girls I have met. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. If I ever need a study-buddy or simply a friend to watch a movie with, my residence hall is the first place I turn to.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are difficult enough to be challenging, but not overwhelming. NDSU has a well balanced academic standard.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend you attend NDSU because they have a large variety of majors and minors. The advisors are helpful and patient, they will even help you decide which major to change to if you decide you don't enjoy your current major. Also the entire campus is warm and welcoming, even during the chilly winter months. It's easy to navigate and fun to meet new people yet keeps that small campus feel. The best part is the incredibly delicious food offering at a good price. Overall, NDSU is affordable and an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience.

    In three sentences

This university deserves a high rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The professors are unbelievably helpful and encouraging. Not only that, but the campus activities are fun and inviting!

    Campus Safety

considering how large of a campus it is there is very little dangerous crime and crime related injuries. part of the reasoning for this is the small area Fargo ND and Moorhead MN provide.

    Greek Life

I have not participated in Greek life but all they appear to be a big help to causes around campus, and many of which appear to be great individuals.

    Clubs and Activities

Being a Freshmen I have met many of my friends through clubs and activities. The clubs give you chances to meet people with like interests, and nearly every weekend there are free or little cost events to participate in. If you cant find a club you want you are welcome to get a small group together and make one.

Great for these types of students

Engineering students, Pharmacy students, people looking for nice classmates, people looking for a big campus at a smaller metro area, people who have any research orientated degree.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Since NDSU is such a engineering and architecture school there are some really neat buildings found around campus.

    Bang for the buck

The atmosphere in Fargo is very festive. You can tell that many students really love there college experience here. Our sporting entertainment is also on the rise with two consecutive division one football championships, a dance team championship, and many others.

    What to do for fun

I am part of a campus hip hop team. I also go to a local dance studio and participate there. On the rest of my free time I do random activities with friends such as movie nights and school events.

    Food and Dining

The food is very good and convenient. There are three dining centers on campus, each serve different choices and are buffet style. All have a breakfast bar, a salad bar, a sandwich bar, and one has a pizza area. Only one dining center is open on the weekends or late night (until 10:30).

    Dorm Life

I enjoy the dorms. I did not have the chance to be at the newer dorms on campus. I also haven't gotten the chance to know a majority of my dorm mates. I have not had any problems so far dorm related.

    Academic Rigor

All of my classes are fairly challenging. I can also connect all of my classes taken to my major in some way. This makes it more enjoyable to go to your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest to come into college with the mind set of starting of great both socially and academically. Take time to meet people quickly into the year and spend the amount of time needed to succeed in your classes. Also, be prepared for the cold weather Fargo, ND has.

    In three sentences

I really enjoy this campus. The people are really nice and there are a great amount of social and academic activities. Since it is a research campus it as very useful for science degrees such as mine.

    Bang for the buck

    I enjoy it!

    What to do for fun

There are always tons of things the school puts on around campus and town like dances, movies, leagues, etc. for students under 21. The bars downtown (not far from campus) and The Turf is right on campus (bar). They are awesome.

    Food and Dining

The West Dining Center is amazing! Also food is available in the Memorial Union and it has its very own coffee shop! Amazing.

    Dorm Life

I am unsure being I live 5 miles from campus and drive everyday, but it sounds very nice from what I hear.

    Academic Rigor

When you leave class you actually feel like you've learned something. At least I do!

    Tips for prospective students

Try to find housing on or near campus (walking/biking distance). Parking is alright but could use many improvements!

    In three sentences

I thoroughly enjoy attending North Dakota State University for three reasons. The campus and entire city is safe and virtually crime free, there are always expanding job opportunities and a low unemployment rate. It also has friendly people in a big city but a small town atmosphere.

    Academic Rigor

They most definitely make you work for your grades!

    In three sentences

NDSU has a great campus with a wide variety of majors, but they aren't as student-teacher oriented as they used to be. I believe NDSU would be a better university if they worked more on student-teacher relationships, allowing for more successful students. Also, having a majority of professors being foreign is an extreme challenge!

    Food and Dining

Food has been wonderful. They have tea and drinks available 24/7. There is always something available that you will like to eat. I eat better now then I did when I was in High School.

    Clubs and Activities

You name it, NDSU has a club for it. From the Bison Information Network which produces news shows, to Racquetball Club, to Chi Alpha christian ministry, to even a Ceramics club, NDSU has it all. And each club will give you experience in that area as well as more knowledge. Great for students looking to get more experience in their field of study.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One place a lot of students go to is the Turf. It is basically a bar, and it is right off campus. No more needs to be said about that. Sadly though, NDSU doesn't really have any unusual traditions anymore which makes it rather boring at times.

    Bang for the buck

Regular season athletic events are free for students, and even postseason events aren't expensive. Don't have a car? No problem. MATBUS, the Fargo-Moorhead metro bus company, will get you anywhere you need to go. The only issue with that is that it obviously will take time to get from place to place, much more than if you had a car.

    What to do for fun

It's college, so partying is an option. But if you aren't into that, NDSU has great sports teams that you can go see. But also, the Fargo-Moorhead area is a great college area. From skating, movies, anything, you name it, Fargo probably has it out there.

    Food and Dining

The food is good. With the R, Union, and the West dining centers on campus have a little bit of everything with a ton of variety each day. The only issue is that on the weekends, the Residence Dining Center is the only dining center open which is a pain for people who live far from it.

    Dorm Life

The dorms on campus are nice, but it is apparent that Residence Life doesn't really seem to take priority in keeping them really clean and readily available for students who can't afford an apartment after their first year. With only two upperclassmen dorms now, it is just a testament to how fast the campus is growing.

    Academic Rigor

The courses offered aren't too hard, but they aren't too easy either. The engineering and agriculture departments are some of the best in the nation for a reason. No matter what major(s) you take up, NDSU will give you a good challenge academically, but it will give you the skills needed to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to get involved in an area of interest you have. The more involved you get, the more chances you have to get experience in what you want to do once you leave college. And also be sure to stay true to your moral values. You will be exposed to a lot of stuff, but the more you stay true to your own values, the more you will grow as a person.

    In three sentences

NDSU is a very welcoming college with great students, great teachers, and filled with great opportunities to be successful once you leave. It is a beautiful campus year-round if you like winter, and it quickly makes you feel at home after a while. NDSU is an up and coming school that is more than worth a look at.

    Dorm Life

    Campus Safety

Safety is taken very seriously here and it is easy to see the campus police patrolling the campus. Similarly there are emergency call towers around campus that the police will respond quickly too. It was very easy to get information on the contact information for the campus police here and they do hold talks with the freshmen in one of their classes.

    What to do for fun

For fun, I hang out with friends in the dorms and hold movie marathons with them. Others play online games or go long boarding or roller blading. There are events that students can go to at the Memorial Union like movie nights or lego building contest but students choose to go there or not. Also there are tons of clubs to get involved with on campus, but mainly people find fun things to do with their friends or homework as the semester progresses.

    Food and Dining

There are three dining centers on campus, and in each there is a main lunch line, salad bar, sandwich/ soup bar, and the dessert bar. Each has quality food, and offers the students options to make their own food on a grill. The meal plans are great because instead of a set amount of meals per week, with most meal plans here, students can go to the dining centers as many times a day as they want. The are also other options on campus for students to eat at if they want, or there are also restaurants around campus.

    Dorm Life

I live in the Engineering Community at NDSU and I have had an amazing time making new friends here. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and everyone that lives here is polite and courteous to other's personal space and opinions. Often during the week small groups will form to work on homework or study for an up coming test. The Residence Hall usually has fun events for the students like Bedazzling homecoming shirts or an icecream social. Of course there are the goofy things college kids do like the guys from my dorm had three of them dressed as bananas and the fourth as a gorilla, then the gorilla chased the bananas through campus to the volleyball courts.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging and move at a faster pace but the professors present the information in multiple ways to help students understand the material better. Most professors do assign day to day problems, however it is the student's responsibility and choice if they want to do homework because most professors will only grade exams and bigger projects, especially for the large lectures. There are excellence options that students can use to excel in their classes like ACE tutoring which has student tutors that help other students with their homework and provides individual study rooms for students that want a quiet place to study.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask the tour guides questions about the everyday life at NDSU or the events that various clubs will put on here. If you do decide to attend NDSU, be sure to get involved the first week and get to know those who live on your floor. Making friends the first few weeks isn't hard because everyone is new and looking for new friendships so do not be afraid to explore different options from high school. Lastly, get to know your academic advisor because they are willing and wanting to help students thrive at NDSU.

    In three sentences

It's an amazing school with a diverse range of students and classes, with excellent opportunities to make life-long friends and connections. The classes are challenging and full of new information, but NDSU provides great opportunities like their ACE tutoring to help struggling students or to help a student turn their B into an A. Honestly, I am glad I choose to come here for college, because I have felt myself grow as a person, outside the constraints of high school and other's opinions.

Be sure to attend classes and read your books! Although they may not always be necessary, you payed for the class and should learn what you can from it.

    In three sentences

North Dakota State is a relatively small, student focused research university. With division one sports and 2 FCS Division 1 National Championships, it is a rather sporty college. The student to teacher ratio is very personal.

    Campus Safety

There have been a few instances but nothing too scary! I feel safe on campus almost 100% of the time.

    Greek Life

Greek life has a strong presence on campus and a professional presence. Great for anyone looking to get further involved.

    Clubs and Activities

With over 300 recognized student organizations, there's something for everyone. If there's not, find 6 people and start your own!

Great for these types of students

Students with a lot of school spirit, students with a strong desire to research, to go into engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, music, or business. There are so many great programs!

    Bang for the buck

NDSU is very affordable compared to other universities with similar offerings in the country.

    What to do for fun

I go to the wellness center, get involved with clubs and organizations, and hang out with friends. There is always something going on.

    Food and Dining

The dining centers have excellent food. Beware not to overeat because the freshman will likely be finding you. There is a variety of food from hot, cold, salad bar, a grill, a pizza grill at one, and breakfast food. You can't go wrong with the dining centers.

    Dorm Life

I personally had a poor experience in the dorms but it is very mixed. My suggestion is to get to know your roommate in advance and set clear expectations before you move in or that first day. This way you each know what you are expecting to be living with and get a better understanding for one another. If you foresee not getting along well, contact residence life and ask to move if possible.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is not as high as I would like to see it because I love being a student and learning but there is still a strong emphasis on academia as we are in the top research universities in the country.

    Tips for prospective students

Get excited to be a Bison because the Bison pride is crazy. Ask questions and express your concerns. Make sure to get involved right away and learn about all of the opportunities. Don't just come for the sports.

    In three sentences

North Dakota State University is a school that feels like a family, the students are always friendly and helpful. The pride on campus is fantastic and we pulled a 3PEAT this weekend at the FCS Football Championships. If you love to have school pride and celebrate your school, NDSU is the place for you.

    Campus Safety

I have heard of very few, if any safety issues on campus. I have never felt in danger.

    Bang for the buck

Excellent value what you pay in tuition.

    What to do for fun

Fargo is full of entertainment and recreational events. There is always something going on around campus too. The football games are awesome here, and you can get free tickets.

    Food and Dining

The food is good for college food, but it does get old after awhile. They have a lot of options, and you get unlimited swipes on your card. It is an expensive meal plan though.

    Dorm Life

My roommate and I get along really well, and I love my dorm. I live in one of the low rises, but I actually enjoy being closer to the union and academic buildings. I have plenty of storage space. My only complaint is that our floor is not very close, but it seems to be getting better as the year goes on.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are tough, but professors are almost always available if you need help. Majors such as pharmacy and engineering are very competitive, so if you are interested in a career in these areas, make sure you study.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to get involved, people want you to be successful here.

    In three sentences

I love NDSU. Everyone is really friendly, and I have never had any issues with bullying. The campus is nice, and it feels like home.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The football games are a lot of fun!! Specially the events prior to the game and the tail gating.

    Food and Dining

The food is decent. They serve a lot of chicken, and veggies. You are also able to cook on the grill in the dining halls, it makes getting that home cooked meal feeling easy.

    Dorm Life

The RA's like to set up floor meetings within the dorm at the beginning of the year. It helped us to make new friends and open up to people, because we were all shy. The all girls dorms are smaller then you would expect, but they aren't bad. The community bathrooms are cleaned daily, and so is each floor.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are as challenging as you make them. I find my classes to be simple as long as I follow the guide lines and have my work turned in on time. If you don't follow the lesson plan, you will become way behind and not be able to catch up and sometimes professors won't let you make up missed work.

    Tips for prospective students

If you like being out in the open, in large classes and farm business this is probably the place for you. You are constantly surrounded by open space and farms, as well as farmers. Most attend NDSU because of the farming programs are very good.

    In three sentences

After my first semester at NDSU, I would have to rate it 6/10 stars. My reasoning behind this rating is because I don't like that I am so far away from home, and my major's program is not as great as I expected it to be. The atmosphere of the campus is alright, some people are friendly others are not.

    What to do for fun

Coming from the cities I was nervous about not finding anything fun to do at NDSU because of the location. I was wrong, there are fun things to do in North Dakota. My friends and I usually go downtown Fargo and hang out and walk through stores. When we are not doing that we are hanging out in the dorms or out playing basketball at the Wellness Center.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good for being made in large quantities. They have varieties for you to choose from. The dining center also has a grill where you can make your own creations from food in the dining center. The West Dining center has a pizza oven where they make the best pizza!

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is nice because it helps you meet more people! It helps meet people because you are living with the people for a whole school year. The rooms are spacious for living with another person. The Resident Assistants are really nice and friendly towards the students. They are also a great resource to have because they can help you with classes because they probably have taken them before you!

    Academic Rigor

The academics at North Dakota State is the top of the line. The professors expect the best out of their students and prepare them for real world situations. Even though they challenge you, the professors will help you when you are struggling.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be shy to talk to your teachers/professors, they are there to help you. Always devote time to your school work, other activities can wait. Be prepared for the cold winters! Sit with strangers at lunch or in class. It is a great way to meet new people. Use ACE, they are a great tool for studying and helping with homework.

    In three sentences

North Dakota State is the best college to attend. The class sizes are small and the teachers are always helping students in their course work. Another reason why NDSU is the best is because of the friendly student body.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fantastic. They are located in convenient places, they are clean, safe, and a lot of fun.

    Academic Rigor

As long as you take at least fifteen credits (about five classes) per semester, you are sure to graduate on time. If you don't procrastinate, it is very easy to keep up in class.

    Tips for prospective students

Make friends, as connections come in handy. Study every day so you aren't cramming the night before a test. Take quality notes in all of your classes. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

    In three sentences

The faculty is fantastic. There is not a lot of diversity. The research program is great.

    Campus Safety

They have really great safety! I always see the public safety driving around campus and checking up on the students.

    What to do for fun

They have tons of activities to do. If you are bored you can go to the Rec. center and start up a pickup game of ball. Or they always have some sports events going on.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing! They have so many different places to eat and all of them use your bison bucks. So you never get sick of the food.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is comparable to every other campus dorm. The big difference, though, between NDSU and another campus is that the dorms are bigger and the amenities are a lot better. (bathroom, kitchen)

    Academic Rigor

The professors really lean towards student involvement in the classroom setting and will do a lot of things to help a student in need of assistance.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you know what every building looks like, inside and out. My cousin went to a college for one semester because when she got her tour of the campus they showed her all the nice buildings. but it turned out that all those buildings were for juniors and seniors, and not freshman.

    In three sentences

It is a very beautiful and friendly campus. Even throughout the cold, snowy winter this campus shows its beauty. All the classrooms seem to be very up to date on technology and really know how to keep the students focus on the professor.

Great for these types of students

NDSU is a perfect school for Agricultural based students as it is a school focused mainly on Agriculture. I have also heard that the Architecture and Pharmacy programs are some of the most competitive programs on campus, so students with strong will power, dedication, personality, and dedication work best at this school as well.

    Bang for the buck

NDSU, for a state university, has pretty cheap tuition for the academics it provides. It is an excellent university overall, and the price helped me to choose this school over the other three I was thinking about. You will receive a secure campus, pretty decent food, challenging academics, amazing people, and more from NDSU for the relatively small price (in comparison to other state universities) they request.

    Food and Dining

There are three dining centers on campus, Residence, Union, and West. The Residence Dining Center is the allergen free zone, and is the only center open on weekends and breaks, it is also connected to Reed/Johnson and Weible (both Freshmen only dorms). The Union Dining Center is located in the basement of the Memorial Union and is small, but generally pretty lively due to its central location. Finally West is located in the middle of the four high rises and is across the street from the Residence. The food at all three places is pretty good, and Residence sports a coffee shop (it's free with meals), while West has a pizza parlor.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is alright, but not absolutely amazing. NDSU requires all Freshman students who don't live within the immediate area to live on campus in Freshman only Residence Halls where students can be paired with other students who they have nothing in common with. NDSU has a very basic survey if you will, on who you are, but they don't really ask anything about what you're looking for in a roommate. It is quite easy to land one roommate after another who is completely different from your needs, simply because there are not more questions asked early on.

    Academic Rigor

NDSU has challenging classes, but most of them are challenging based on their program. Specific programs, such as Architecture or Pharmacy, have extremely tough classes, especially during Freshman year, as the programs are competitive and hard to get into. Other programs house easier classes that still pose a challenge.

    Tips for prospective students

Use your planner. Some professors will give you the entire semester's worth of homework in their syllabus, and will notify you of a change if they feel one is needed. A planner is a great way to keep track of all of your class assignments, projects, and tests in the same place while also giving you a map of campus (provided you use the planner given to you) in case you need to find someplace fast. ----------- Talk with your professors. They might seem scary, but they're there to help you, and if you talk to them, make yourself known to them, try your hardest, and act professionally, they might just boost your grade at the end of the semester saying That student tried really hard this semester, I think they really deserve that next letter up. Or they might become a reference for the future. Get on their good sides, it benefits you to do so. ----------- Do your homework. You might be the best test taker there is, but homework can sometimes count for 80% or more of the end grade, and if you don't procrastinate, you can get it done with plenty of time to spare for that game, movie, or to hang out by yourself or with friends. ----------- Study. Whether it's in silence, with friends, outside, etc. it needs to be done. It isn't high school anymore, it's a bridge to the outside world, and acing those tests give you a better chance of getting that dream job you want. Better grades also get you cheaper car insurance, which might help some of you (if you pay it yourself) or will help your parents (if they're paying it for you). ----------- Have fun. College isn't only about academics, it's also about you. Take some time out for yourself or you will drive yourself insane. Paint a picture, go for a walk, play a game of football, etc. Just make sure to keep it balanced, make sure to have fun, but don't use fun as a way to procrastinate from your schoolwork. ----------- Tl;dr: Use your planner, talk with your professors, study, have fun, keep your life balanced.
