Categories Comments Great for these types of students It is a great school for all types! It's perfect for those who like smaller classes, and a home environment! They offer a variety of classes that involve both hands on and book work! So they have something for all!
Tips for prospective students As many of you have heard college is NOT like high school! So just be ready to learn, and remember it is up to you!
Am enjoying being here I love being at NGCSU! It is a beautiful and safe campus! There is always some type of student events taking place and it's just a great place to be,and meet new people! You are not a number you are a name!
Am learning a lot The classes are small, and your professor knows you by name! It makes it easier to ask questions, and receive help! They offer tutoring and have labs where you can go and receive free help!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for those wanting small class size and desiring a small town atmosphere off campus...not for the party-goer types from what I've seen.
Tips for prospective students Plan to be introduced to military type procedures. More rules & regulations for on campus living than I've experienced in the past.
Bang for the buck Transferring from a much larger school...tuition, fees & room about the same. Will have to share a room even though it's a new building, which I'm not too fond of! Extremely high price for the mandatory meal plan!
Will enjoy being here A beautiful campus! Think I'll enjoy being here...I find the military influence on campus appealing. Hopefully there's plenty to do outside of study, with plenty of students willing to participate in activities.
Will learn a lot Hopefully will learn all I need to learn (plus more) in getting my degree, especially with the personal environment and smaller class sizes. Unfortunately those limited class sizes inhibit the availability of class options, as I found out during registration.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students If you decide to go to North Georgia, please first know where you are going. As a military cadet, you will have hardly any freedom and you will be living in barracks - not dorms. Do not expect first class. But do expect good people, good prices, good professors, and a great education. Plus we have new apartments and the school is in the process of building new dorms, barracks, and chow hall (all before I graduate in 2013). I highly recommend NGCSU. Go Saints!
Bang for the buck NGCSU is an excellent education for an excellent price. Most students receive sufficient funding.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy my civilian life at NGCSU. Honestly, I do not LOVE the Corps of Cadets but I am getting use to the military lifestyle. I have to admit, military life is growing on me. I do believe, though, that if I was a civilian student I would enjoy every moment on the NGCSU campus. The school is great!
Am learning a lot NGCSU is great. I love the Professors and the small classroom environment. I know I can personally talk to each of my Professors and I know they care about my education.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Being in the corps is a great thing to do if you want to commission into the Army. The ROTC program is second to none. Just remember the corps is self ran. It is a leadership laboratory, so things are not also organized as well as they should. But if you want to commission or just want leadership skills this is a great college.
Tips for prospective students This is a great college to go to if you like the mountains. DO NOT go here if you want to go and party all of the time. This college is in the middle of no where. The town outside of the college has very little non outdoor activities. But if you enjoy biking, hiking and camping this a great place. Oh and if your in the ROTC program make sure you keep your GPA above a 2.5
Bang for the buck This is by far the cheapest military college. It was ranked the number one army ROTC program in the nation. The classes are good with small numbers. The teachers all know you by name so don't try and skip to many classes.
Am enjoying being here The area it self is very nice, Life as a freshmen in the corp of cadets sucks though. While in the corp of cadets as a freshmen you will have mandatory studying from 8pm to midnight Sunday-Thursday. So social life suffers. You have to wear a uniform 24/7 also for your first semester. However I have not met one person who was unfriendly. All of the professors and students are easily approachable and very friendly. I have made a lot of good friends here
Am learning a lot Both in and out of the classroom you will be constantly learning things. If you join the corps of cadets you will learn even more.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All types really. There is a little bit for everyone. Soroity and fraternity life is awesome. There is a gym, pool, rock wall, and much more for the adventurous people. The atmosphere is very relaxing. There are privacy rooms at the library for the The college is right around some stores and good places to eat. There's a park with a river just right down the road. There is really something for everyone here at this college.
Tips for prospective students Buy books online at Half.com or Ebay. Books can get quite expensive, but they are at all colleges. My friends in other colleges pay about the same I do, or more. If you don't buy them online, at least see if your book store has them used. Also, if you go to this college, I TOTALLY recommend that you use the new gym. Its amazing, and free to the students, so take advantage of it.
Bang for the buck This college is really not all that expensive. You really do get way more than you end up paying for.
Am enjoying being here The campus is so beautiful. Especially in the fall when the trees in the mountains are changing. The campus is not loud. It is very peaceful and welcoming. The people are friendly and there is so much to do when I'm not in class.
Am learning a lot I have learned so much since I started going to North Georgia. The class sizes are small so that the teachers can work really good with you. I have already got the chance to work in the field of the career I am interested in, and I'm only a sophomore.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students NGCSU has been considered the best Biology and Nursing program in the entire state, but that doesn't mean for everyone else to cross us off your list. Every major offered here is great with amazing teachers and you will be held to a high standard no matter what your major is. There are also art displays, galleries and structures made by the talented art students. This school is perfect for anyone!
Tips for prospective students If you aren't used to studying, START PRACTICING NOW! The work here isn't a piece of cake, but it isn't impossible. If you spend at least an hour or two a day on each class, you should do great (B or higher)! Try not to procrastinate because midterms and finals are all at the same time, so teachers will all be assigning essays and projects also at the same time. Its best if you spread your work load out evenly instead of trying to frantically put together something at last minute because that will only stress you out.
Bang for the buck I'm assuming this section means is this college expensive? The answer is: so-so. It is not the cheapest in the state, but also not the most expensive, but compared to other states, NGCSU is a fairly cheap school. There are many opportunities to receive financial aid though: with HOPE scholarship and Federal grants through filling out your FAFSA form, you should not have to worry about extreme amounts of loans hanging over you when you graduate.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and the people are extremely friendly. This is a military college, so the cadets are especially gentlemen like to the women, which is a change from high school. There are opportunities for Greek life (sororities and fraternities). There are ALWAYS activities to do on campus because of SGA and other groups putting on special gatherings like movie nights or dances or just some fun sports.
Am learning a lot The professors here really push you to do your best. You have to keep up with the work and the studying, but I really have learned so much in the semester and a half that I have been here. They also are very helpful, for the most part. Of course there are bad apples in every bunch, but I say 3/4 of the professors truly care about you. The classes have anywhere from 10-100 people in them, but most of the time, the classes are small (around 30 students per class room), so the teachers get to know you personally and know your strengths and weaknesses in your academics.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our campus police take their jobs seriously. I have always felt safe here because of them and the fact that it is a military school in a small city.
Greek Life There are a handful of fraternities and sororities on campus. What I love about the greek life at North Georgia is even though each organization tries to be the best and get the best, they all get along and work together to make this school the best it can be
Clubs and Activities There are several clubs on campus. Intramurals to student activities board to honors societies to the rugby and equestrian teams. There is a club/group for anyone and everyone.
Great for these types of students If you like being outside, tradition, and small class sizes. The school is big enough to meet someone new everyday but small enough to know a lot of people
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Since it is a military school there are several traditions and locations on campus that hold a lot of meaning. Every morning at 7am and every evening at 5pm the campus stops while the flag is raised/lowered and a cannon is shot to signify the beginning/end of the day. There is a memorial with all the names of the people who attended North Georgia and died while serving our country. There are many more that make this campus one of the best.
Bang for the buck There are a hand full of fast food restaurants in Dahlonega, a Walmart, and some local restaurants. If you need anything else you have to go to Gainesville or Dawsonville.
What to do for fun Since North Georgia is in the mountains there is a lot to do. On campus you can be involved in intramurals. There are a lot of hiking trails in the area, camping, tubing, swimming. A lot of outdoor activities
Food and Dining They just built a new dining hall and it is really nice. The food is average. I enjoyed going there to eat, study, and hang out with friends.
Dorm Life Although some of the dorms are old, I loved them. They have pretty strict visitation rules. The newer dorms have less strict rules and they are really nice.
Academic Rigor The classes at North Georgia are average. Some are very difficult while others are pretty easy. The school does take academics very seriously
Tips for prospective students Don't walk across the grass as a short cut, especially the drill field because it is disrespectful.
In three sentences North Georgia is unlike any other college I know of. The students consist of cadets in the corps and the students not in the corp, civilians. The traditions at this school bring the entire campus together and I wouldn't want to go to any other school .

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Really there are an extremely wide variety of students here. There are the military, preppy, outdoors, christian, athletic, and many others. And all everyone has the chance to get involved on campus in clubs that you enjoy and through that you can meet people who share the same interests as you.
Tips for prospective students Apply early! NGCSU is growing rapidly and there are tons of applications coming in but limited room. If you are even thinking about going here apply now. Also come visit the campus if you do I think you will really enjoy it.
Bang for the buck The fees are a little high and they have continued to rise while I have been here but tuition is relatively low. If you live on campus with the meal plan there really isn't anything else that you need to spend money on everything is pretty much included.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful as well as the rest of Dahlonega. It is surrounded by mountains. With it being a small school it seems like everybody knows everybody which is great because no matter what class you are in there will most likely be someone there that you know. There is greek life which is cool to be apart of and for those who don't think greek life is for them there is still plenty of other things to do.
Am learning a lot Some classes are a joke while others are very difficult. If you apply yourself you can do well. Most of the classes are small so you get to know your professors well and will probably be able to take the same one twice if you liked him or her.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students NGCSU is great for students who like structure. Its not that big of a party school, but if you get in with the right people, you can find the parties. Also, if you are interested in a career in the military, or want the experience, there is the corp of cadets, that is available to everyone.
Tips for prospective students Don't room with your best friend from highschool, no matter how good or fun you think it will be. It will destroy your relationship and just add more stress to the year. If you begin to have problems in class, go to the teacher ASAP. Most will be willing to help in any way possible, some might even show you ways to help boost your grade more or give you extra credit. Don't sleep with your window open during the week days, the corps do PT outside and it can get very loud very quickly early in the mornings. Get involved in as much as you can, it makes life more fun and interesting!
Bang for the buck This college is definitely worth the small price that you pay compared to other colleges. The food is even pretty good, with a wide variety as well.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus! It is so beautiful, though, I must admit it does get very cold in the winters. There is also a small square in walking distance of the campus with little shops that you can easily loose yourself in just looking around in them. Sadly though, there is not a lot to do on the weekends.
Am learning a lot I definitely have learned a lot, whether it be socially or school related. Theres a lot to learn in a short time but the teachers and the advisors are more than willing to help.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there has not been one time when i feel unsafe on campus. you are never alone on a dark alley. you are always within a great community with many people around at all times. also there are police stands for safety located all around campus to ensure your safety even further.
Clubs and Activities there are many ways to become involved. the sga at ngcsu is wonderful and can aid you in becoming active in the activities and clubs here at the school.
Great for these types of students ngcsu is great for students who like being involved. the small size allows students to miguel and make friends who become part of your family. ngcsu is great for those who love a small town and the ways a small town operates.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus because ngcsu is a military college you will hear a cannon shot both at 5 am and 5 pm. at 5 pm everyone is expected to stop and pay respects to those who fought in the wars and those who are still there.
Bang for the buck ngcsu will not suck your wallet dry. it is a great education for any amount of money, we are just lucky that it's cheap and affordable for all.
What to do for fun dahlonega has many restaurants that students congregate in. also, ngcsu has a wonderful student government association that keep student a rice with fun events etc.
Food and Dining dining is wonderful with the new chow hall located on campus. the food selection is complete and the pricing is cheap. you get much more than you pay for in the new dining hall. it is very clean an the staff are very nice.
Dorm Life i love dorm life at ngcsu. the dorms and suites are well built and always being renovated to keep your needs met. i love my ra and love the dorm system itself.
Academic Rigor academics are hard at ngcsu, yet not unbearable. the professors are very willing to help you. yet expect work to be done on a high standard to keep the integrity of the educational sustenance at ngcsu.
Tips for prospective students i recommend taking a trip to see the campus. it will blow you away with its beauty and it's ability to help one relax. the campus alone gives you a feel of the environment. you can realize right away that students and staff are inviting just by taking a trip to the campus. trust me, you won't regret it.
In three sentences ngcsu is everything i have ever dreamed of. the students, staff, and environment welcome you into their hearts and make you part of the great big family. i feel that my education is key, yet professors do not let this jeopardize comfortablity and enjoyment as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are vigilant as well as the rest of campus. There are posts set up with buttons on them that you can press to call for campus police for an escort anytime you feel uncomfortable.
Clubs and Activities North Georgia College and State University has Greek life, plus we have clubs like Swing Dance, Anime Club, and many more. The Student Activities Board and others throw a lot of fun dances. There are group exercise classes and many different types of interesting lectures with guest speakers that are open to the whole campus.
Great for these types of students North Georgia College and State University is great for any type of student. The student body is really friendly and accepting of anyone and everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Our campus has quiet a few traditions. For one, we have the flag which is raised and lowered everyday by the corp of cadets. It is respectable to stop whatever your doing wherever you are on campus and turn towards the flag until it is over. Also, no cutting across the drill field.
What to do for fun There is usually some sort of activity going on somewhere on campus, and if not you can always join your friends on the drill field for sports or tanning, or take a short walk to the square, and walk around the shops.
Food and Dining There are a lot of choices. Sometimes the food can be questionable, but there is always something there for everybody.
Dorm Life Dorm life is always interesting, especially in the barracks. If you need help on a subject just go knock on someones door.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging, but they encourage you to reach a new level and improve yourself academically. The professors have office hours set aside in case a student needs help on an assignment.
Tips for prospective students My tip is to use your resources. Take your essays to the writing lab or get a tutor when needed. Manage your time wisely and be sure to be social, so your friends can help you with your studying, and talk to your professors.
In three sentences North Georgia College and State University is a very beautiful and reputable school. The professors are phenomenal. Plus, there are many useful resources across campus to help students succeed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe campus and has campus cops on duty 24/7.
Greek Life Sororities: Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, and Sigma Kappa. Fraternities: Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha, Pi Kappa Phi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, and Sigma Nu Sigma Omega and Sigma Theta
Clubs and Activities You can join student government association, Corps of Cadets, Student Activities Board, Honor Societies, Archery Club, Commuter Council, Democrats' Club, Environmental Awareness Club (Protect), Graduate Student Council, Interfraternity Council (IFC), NGC Singers, Panhellenic Council, Protect, Republicans' Club, Resident Women's Affairs Board, Skydiving Club, Students Activities Board, Student Government Association, Students for Social Awareness, Theatre Project and more. There is something for everyone!
Great for these types of students Those who love the outdoors, small towns, and military colleges.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Corps of Cadets observes reveille and retreat at 0700 and 1700 everyday. You can't cut across the Drill Field to get to class faster. There is a candle light ceremony on the drill field every 9/11 involving both cadets and civilian students.
Bang for the buck Camping and sporting equipment can be rented for free from the rec deck. The Rec Deck (gym) is also free. Students can attend all sporting events for free. With meal plans students also receive 80 dining dollars each semester to use in on campus food places like Starbucks.
What to do for fun The historic city of Dahlongea offers a unique environment you won't find anywhere else. The small town feel is inviting and the city square has many shops and restaurants for you to visit. There are many opportunities for outdoor activities such as kayaking, camping, hiking, and nature walks. You are also not far from Atlanta or Athens and can easily drive to either city to enjoy activities there.
Food and Dining We have a new dining hall that is just over a year old now. The food is awesome and you are offered several choices in your cuisine choices. Can get old at times.
Dorm Life Most of the dorms are new or have been worked on recently. They are maintained very well and kept clean by the school's staff. The RA's are all very professorial and don't go on power trips. The students you will be living with are mostly friendly and there is a real sense of community in the dorms.
Academic Rigor There are classes that are very easy, but once you get pass the freshman courses the workload really picks up. As long as you apply yourself you'll do just fine. The honors program is a Challenge for even the best students.
Tips for prospective students You're going to want to be a 100 percent sure you want to come here. Schedule a visit to campus and take a look around campus and Dahlongea. Trust me you'll love the atmosphere. Talk with financial aid as soon as possible so you're not rushing to find a way to pay your dues. Only join the Corps of Cadets if you're 100 percent sure you want to commission as a officer or else its a waste of your time. Work hard in high school and begin to develop good habits like studying. This will pay off in college wherever you chose to go.
In three sentences This school has the best ROTC program in the country. It allows to attend a senior military college, but still have the experiences you would get a normal four year state university.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Great price tag - dorms are in rough shape.
Will enjoy being here Beautiful campus setting. Character of the school and students is present. Students state this is a commuter school - not sure this is good for students who will remain on campus. Awefull dorms - they really need to re-do the existing dorms - a real turn off. 28 students to one community bathroom.
Will learn a lot Went to open house. Spoke with the academic advisors - but never really saw the health building. Wished the school was more open during the visit - was a long ride getting to the school.

Categories Comments Am enjoying being here I LOVE being here in Dahlonega. The aspect of this college also being half military is great also. It gives the students here a new found appreciation for the USA. You realize what really is going on in the world and how special it is to stand up for your Country. I would recommend this college to anyone!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students NGCSU is great for all types of students. It overs terrific degrees without the cost of more well known schools. NGCSU is best for those students who are thinking about joining the military, like small towns, adore scenic locations, and do not get car sick. Those mountain roads can be a doozy. NGCSU is not for people to like to party or go clubbing.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking about applying to NGCSU you need to do so ASAP. Somehow or another word is leaking out about our awesome campus. In fact the school does not have enough housing for next semester, despite recently adding a new dormitory and barracks just last year.
Bang for the buck NGCSU tries to give you as much as they can for the tuition and fees they charge. Take for example the Student Activities Board (SAB). They are financed entirely by a fee of $75 dollars that all students must pay. From that $75 dollars they provide you with free food, such as pizza and snow cones (available in a dozen mouth watering flavors). They also have screenings of movies that won’t come out on DVD till a month later. SAB hires comedy acts and up-and-coming musicians whose tickets become almost impossible to get a few years later. SAB’s crowing achievement though are the Spring and Fall Jams. This years Spring Jam had half a dozen caricature artists, cotton candy, snow cones, funnel cakes, popcorn, free fair games complete with prices, a ferris wheel, dunking booth, electronic bull, and a screening of Grease. It was as if we were at a really carnie. This is what our school does. It takes every penny and uses it in the best possible way, with amazing results.
Am enjoying being here I love it here. I am sad when the semester ends, and cannot wait to see my school next semester. I am thrilled when I round the mountain and see my beautiful campus looking back at me. No matter how bad my day has been, that sight always bring joy to my eyes.
Am learning a lot You learn what you want to learn. If you take your required courses on topics that you like and are already familiar with you won’t learn that much. That is because they are an introductory course, usually designed for non-majors. If you take them on topics you are not familiar with, say geology as opposed to biology, they cease to be refresher courses and instead become quite eye opening. No matter what the topic though once you reach your major related classes I guarantee you will learn things you never knew before.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People who like a smaller type college and appreciate having a smaller class size. Also seems to be great for those wanting to participate in a military style program.
Bang for the buck The prices to attend and stay here seem to be worth it for the type of education you will receive and with all the college offers.
Will enjoy being here NGCSU is a great campus and I believe I will enjoy being here and participating in the various extracurricular activities they offer.
Will learn a lot I hope to learn a lot here and believe I will especially in relation to my major. I plan on majoring in Early Childhood Education and after talking with some of the teachers there, I have learned that those studying for this type major can receive a degree in Early Childhood as well as Special Education.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It is a little more expensive than I expected, and with the cuts to the HOPE scholarship this year, finding the money is a bit more of an issue.
Will enjoy being here The campus is beautiful. Most of it is hilly and, as I will be walking everywhere my first year, this could become tiresome quickly. At least I will have beautiful scenery to look at!
Will learn a lot They have a major in Criminal Justice that appears to above and beyond those of other colleges. I really look forward to attending it in the fall.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are hard working, anxious to excel, desiring a respectable job in the future, and want friends and memories that will last a lifetime, North Georgia College is for you.
Tips for prospective students If you are dedicated to this school and want to succeed, then try these tips. Always study for your classes. Regardless of the grades you had in high school, it is essential to study for college classes every day. Take some time out of each day to review what you learned, and soon, you will reap the benefits. Get involved but not too involved. If is important to enjoy the college experience and make new friends, but college is not all one joy ride. Be willing to attend functions and spend time with friends, but be sure to leave time to be fully rested for class and have all homework finished.
Bang for the buck The school is definitely worth the money paid, however, it would be nice if it were cheaper. It is difficult to afford any college, but North Georgia is worth it.
Am enjoying being here When colleges try to influence students to apply, they always advertise that the school feels like home. I personally toured a few schools, and to me, North Georgia completely felt like home. The scenery is beautiful in every season with colorful trees spreading across the landscape to the mountain view that stretches as far as the I can see. The people here are courteous and loving. There is no making fun of others or exclusion from a click. Everyone at North Georgia treats their fellow class members as equals. This school has the most wonderful environment that I am blessed to be a part of.
Am learning a lot If you truly want to learn and prosper in your education, then this is the school for you. The work load is not so overbearing that it becomes impossible to achieve sufficient grades, but there is always something new to learn. It takes a lot of hard work and effort to succeed in this high standard school, but every moment studying is worth it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students that enjoy small classrooms and life-long friends!
Tips for prospective students My only tips are to get involved and make friends! Also get into good study habits. It isn't like high school. Other than that, college life comes natural up here.
Bang for the buck Also, the tuition is among the cheapest colleges in Georgia. It is an amazing quality for a great price! I wouldn't go anywhere else!
Am enjoying being here The scene is beautiful. I wake up and see the mountains every day. I also have MANY friends here. There are plenty of socializing events including a Josh turner concert this year! Also I feel very safe here. This is the tenth safest college in the United States.
Am learning a lot This is the best school around. The environment is great. There are small classes with great teachers that know a lot about what they teaching. most teachers give you every possibility to make good grades.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who is interested in Army ROTC, this is the school for you. The Boar's Head Brigade has some of the highest ranked cadets on the National Order of Merit List!
Tips for prospective students Get to know your professors. If your professor knows you, and you ask questions and work hard, it could mean they bump your grade up if you are wavering between two letters.
Bang for the buck Of the three schools I applied to, North Georgia College & State University is the cheapest by far, and the language program I am in is not rivaled by any other school!
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful! The school is sitting in a valley surrounded by gorgeous mountains. The faculty and staff are very pleasant and ready to help!
Am learning a lot I am currently in a language intensive program, where I am learning Arabic at a phenomenal rate! Anyone interested in learning Arabic or Chinese quickly should come here!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always officers patrolling campus, and everyone seems to get along. I think NGCSU was ranked in the top 20 universities as far as security is concerned.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of clubs and activities to participate in around campus. Intramurals are awesome.
Great for these types of students Great for outdoorsy students who like having a small, well- rounded educational experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Do NOT cross the drill field just to cut corners getting to class. You can see the Gold Steeple from almost anywhere in Dahlonega.
Bang for the buck The educational and personal experiences gained at NGCSU are well worth the modest price.
What to do for fun The gigantic drill field provides an opportunity to play frisbee, football, softball, or anything else you can think of with however many friends you want. There are several good restaurants around town and planty of places to camp, hike, and fish.
Food and Dining Menu does not change much. The food that is served is decently good though. There is always nutritional information about what you are eating, which is nice to have if you are dieting.
Dorm Life Dorms are well organized and located. Bathroom upkeep could see improvement, but other than that it is a wonderful experience.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging, but small enough that the teacher can provide assistance on a personal basis with students as well as students with each other.
Tips for prospective students Get yourselves acclimated to walking before you come and bring a frisbee. Get to know ALL of your professors, they are usually more than willing to help you out.

Clubs and Activities There are many events going on planned by SGA and SAB.
Great for these types of students Military driven, business, international affairs.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We perform the Raising of the Colors and Retreat everyday on campus. No one can cut across the drill field. Freshmen may not walk under the big arch, there is a smaller one provided for them.
Bang for the buck Cheaper than most schools and gives you a great education.

Food and Dining Food gets old after a while.
Dorm Life The dorms are wonderful to live in.
Academic Rigor Professors make sure the students know everything and help out as much as possible.
Tips for prospective students The ROTC program is great if you want to become a leader.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's military college.
Greek Life My friend is in a fraternity and he likes it, but I don't that much about it.
Clubs and Activities Very athletically oriented. This is what you expect of a military college.
Great for these types of students This great for outdoorsy people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You're up in the mountains, it's the most beautiful countryside you can be on.
Bang for the buck Well, college is expensive. If you are joining the ROTC program like I am, it costs even more, but they allow you more scholarships to pay for these costs. It's up to you how you pay for these, whether it's out of your pocket or not.
What to do for fun There is too much to choose from. You can go hiking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, camping, biking, or go on a drive with your friends. I'm not doing it much justice.
Food and Dining I've heard different opinions about the food, but I'm definitely not picky. As long as it's better than high school food, I'll enjoy every bit. There is plenty of room to eat with a group of friends.
Dorm Life The dorms are pretty good. I would suggest bringing your own fan in case the AC happens to not work for a couple days. Don't try to bring a 70 TV because it won't fit.
Academic Rigor Like I said, if you don't an effort into your class, don't even think about trying to get your credit. It's a great college.
Tips for prospective students This is for you if you are dedicated to working towards what you want to be. You will be weeded out if you don't put your all into it.
In three sentences From what I heard, students there enjoy the programs and classes. I have been on campus and it is small enough to get around, and large enough to get some exercise. I was treated with wonderful hospitality, and given everything I needed to find out how I could benefit my future.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are almost no incidents at North Georgia. In fact, this school is one of the safest schools in the United States with one of the lowest crime rates. For the safety conscious parent, this is the school to send your child.
Greek Life I am not part of the Greek life here, but it should be noted that there is no on campus Greek housing.
Clubs and Activities Clubs are easy to form and nearly everyone is active in at least one organization on campus.
Great for these types of students Students that are active and physically fit usually have the best time at North Georgia because there are several large hills throughout the campus and there is no transportation other than walking between buildings.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Since North Georgia has always been a military institute there are several traditions based in this. Students are expected to witness revelry and retreat at 7am and 5pm if they outdoors at this time. Using the drill field in the middle of campus as a short cut is frowned upon as well as walking on the grass. Several other traditions are deeply rooted in this school, but to learn them all one would have to attend North Georgia.
Bang for the buck The total cost of North Georgia is shockingly low for the quality of service provided by the institution. With one of the lowest tuition fees in the state of Georgia as well as one of the highest rated academics for a school of this size, it is difficult to go wrong attending North Georgia.
What to do for fun Since North Georgia is located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains there is a plethora of outdoor activities within the area. Kayaking, hiking, climbing, and much more is easily accessible. For those less inclined to the outdoors, Atlanta is a 45 minutes drive south with several malls and cities in between.
Food and Dining The Dining Hall, also known as Chow, is brand new. Everything is state of the art and for someone experiencing the dining experience for the first time it is very enjoyable. Unfortunately, the same food is served every day and meals quickly become repetitive. There are small restaurants on campus, but none of them provide a great meal.
Dorm Life As one of the military students at North Georgia, I live in the military residence halls. We abide by a strict schedule and during the school week and quickly learn to work as a team with those on our hall. Overall, life in the dorms is peaceful and a great environment for an academic.
Academic Rigor In the business department every single teacher has real word experience and knows the subject that they teach. In fact, several teachers are still in the workforce and skillfully pass on their experience. While the teachers are skilled there a few teachers that simply do not connect with the students and that prevents the department from getting five stars.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students need to know that North Georgia is a small school. Additionally, since its founding there has been a military presence on this campus and North Georgia is one of six Senior Military Colleges and have regularly been ranked #1 out of these schools. Cadets are in classes with civilian students and is always someone in uniform. This school is filled with traditions and it important to keep these traditions alive.
In three sentences North Georgia's located in one of the most beautiful locations in the United States. Not only is this school famous for its top ranked military program, the academics have continually pushed me to excel. As a small, soon to be mid-sized, school the teachers are able to work one on one with their students to produce an excellent school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is probably one of the safest campuses around. The campus security regularly travels around the premise to ensure safety. All of the dorms and most other buildings (like the library during certain hours) require that one has a valid student ID in order to gain access.
Greek Life There are many sororities and fraternities on campus in which one can become involved. There are also several service sororities and fraternities on campus.
Food and Dining The only good thing about the food on campus is the canteen. The dining hall, while offering a pleasant atmosphere, distributes a sub par quality of food.
Dorm Life Though not for me, dorm life seems to be quite popular at North Georgia. A large portion of the student body choose to live on campus or in off-campus apartments. In my short stay on campus, I found it to be quite convenient to live on campus. The only drawbacks to living on campus is being forced to buy a meal plan (which is pricy) and the overall cost of room and board was more than I was willing to pay.
Academic Rigor North Georgia has many academically rigorous degrees. Our science and education departments are quite exceptional. Though North Georgia isn't considered an Ivy League school, the staff definitely prepares students for notable careers.
Tips for prospective students One good tip is to become very familiar with your North Georgia email and Vista. The email is important because this is where you'll find out about important deadlines and it enables you to communicate with professors. Vista is a program in which many professors choose to utilize to share class powerpoints and notes. If one takes an online class, one will only use Vista to navigate through the course.
In three sentences North Georgia is a quaint university; it doesn't have a large student body and the campus isn't overwhelming. The faculty and staff are very friendly and helpful. There are a wide variety of degree options and classes available.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very efficient safety e-mails, text messages, and phone calls.
What to do for fun There's not a whole lot to do in Dahlonega besides the stroll through downtown, hanging out with friends at reasonably priced local restaurants.
Tips for prospective students Expect some clicks among the students because it is a smaller University. The Biology and Chemistry departments have a reputation for being brutal; do not overlook this. You must have at least a C grade and even a B grade in some classes in the English department in order to receive credit. Overall, take studying seriously.
In three sentences North Georgia College & State University, which because of its consolidation with Gainesville State, will change its name to The University of North Georgia. The University has excelent professors and classes for all majors. The Foreign Languages and English departments are most helpful in my opinion.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have Campus Police. They keep an eye on things. There are WAY too many lamp posts everywhere. But that's supposed to be safer. They have recently set up emergency posts with buttons on them. Also, it is highly encouraged to call campus police if you feel you aren't safe and need an escort across campus.
Greek Life It exists. Supposedly a big deal or something. No houses though.
Clubs and Activities Lots. Swing Dance!! Student Activities Board is very good, puts on a Fall Jam and Spring Jam, plus comedians and other fun things.
Great for these types of students Go getters, Military, Small town people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Circle. Yes, you can BE on the circle. However, you cannot cross it. It's an area to use, but not as a sidewalk or shortcut. Front arches: Freshmen must go through the smaller one. Certain stairs cannot be used as a freshman (may have been a joke, this is less true as time goes on). Right off campus is a graveyard.
Bang for the buck This is a quality education. You may be frustrated with the system, but once you get into higher level courses, you'll find you learn a lot.
What to do for fun Hiking. Camping. Midnight Taco Bell runs. Going to Dawsonville (20 mins away) to shop. Johnny B's. Shopping on The Square (usual small town fun). There are also Sorority and Fraternity parties, but I wouldn't know where those are. Seriously. But even if you don't join a Frat, you can find friends (like at Swing Dance Club) and make fun.
Food and Dining Either you'll love it or hate it. If you aren't too picky, you'll find that they serve good food. It isn't the highest on the scale, but with combinations It can be the best. If you are picky, you'll find things that you do like.
Dorm Life If you don't mind small town, and can make your own fun when it's raining (or tornado warning) then you'll love the dorms. Most of the RAs are brilliant, especially for the Freshmen. After that, you may move to the Suites, which aren't set up for lots of time together, but the Freshman experience is good. Especially if you don't mind not having very big rooms.
Academic Rigor Once you get out of core classes, they can be strenuous. Certain classes like Organic Chemistry are not to be taken lightly.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. Things happen sometimes, and if they don't catch it in time, you may be out of luck. Also, know what you want. If a small town is not for you, then this college isn't either. If you like hiking or camping, this is a good spot, very close to the Appalachian Mts.
In three sentences It's small. It's getting bigger. It's in a small town.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have campus police within walking distance of the dorms, and they patrol the circle around the drill field regularly.
Greek Life We have around 12 sororities and fraternities on campus, as well as some greek honors societies.
Clubs and Activities Tons of greek life, clubs, organizations, and honors societies for whatever you are interested in! Whether it be a foreign language, anime, or rock climbing, there is something at NGCSU!
Great for these types of students Great for the outdoorsy student. So much time is spent enjoying the day out under the sun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The canon goes off at 5pm every day to signal the end of a day of drill. Everyone stops and faces the flag; it is tradition. No one is allowed to just walk across the drill field (it is considered disrespectful). The drill field is to only be used, not simply crossed.
Bang for the buck Very good services and prices with financial aid for a wide range of bachelors programs. Be sure to take a few hours of summer classes, and not just one class to get your money's worth with the summer semester.
What to do for fun Visit the Dahlonega square for a peek in the general store or a caramel apple at the chocolate store! Go to a school sporting event to support the Saints! Also, the college is just 20-25 minutes from the North Georgia Premium Outlets and the Dawson 400 movie theater!
Food and Dining The new chow hall is very nice, many wish that the hours were longer for those who work late, and that the food was healthier overall and covered a wider range of diets (such as vegan and gluten free).
Dorm Life The traditional dorms are pretty old and need to be replaced, but the other residence halls (Owen and the Suites) are newer and nice. Living in a community of others (sometimes including the opposite sex, those in your major, international students, honors students, etc.) is such a rewarding experience.
Academic Rigor The Biology department is one that transplants a lot of students in another direction. The course content is fast paced and intense, but with devotion you can find the success mom and dad want you to have.
Tips for prospective students Be social! All students will welcome you in with love, but make friends and have fun away from the books when you can! Learn to save your money and eat healthy! Financial AND physical well being is essential during college. Remember why you are going to school! It is important to enjoy yourself, but never forget your highest priority! Work now so that you can play later.
In three sentences The campus nestled in the blue ridge mountains is absolutely breathtaking at all moments of the year. A close-nit community and small class size makes you feel right at home. The dry county keeps out the distractions of alcohol and let the students focus on their purpose on campus: to pursue the wonders of higher education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They are constantly riding around to check out the campus. Only down fall to that is that they give out a lot of parking tickets so be careful about where you park.
Greek Life Many options for sororities and fraternities.
Clubs and Activities There are lots of clubs that involve students on campus in a general sense and within each specific major.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an arch that freshman are not allowed to walk under. No one is allowed to cross the drill field or walk in the memorial area near the flag pole or where the cannon is located. The cannon is fired everyday at 5pm to reserve retreat.
Bang for the buck High quality education for less than most colleges especially since it is a public school.
What to do for fun Most students watch movies together. Lots go hiking, there are lots of rivers to play in, there is the historic square to walk around, and the North GA outlet malls are only about 20 minutes away.
Food and Dining Also very expensive but there is a nice variety in the dining hall aka chow.
Dorm Life Living on campus helps everyone make the most of their first year experience. The newer dorms do not have the best quality and the prices are a little steep but it is great being able to walk to class.
Academic Rigor This depends on which department or type of class you are taking. Most core classes aren't incredibly difficult; however, there are certain classes that are extremely rigorous.
Tips for prospective students As a student, make sure you go to your professors if you have any problems. They have office hours for a reason and they can be super helpful in helping you understand something that you might not have understood in class.
In three sentences North GA is everything I hoped for in furthering my education. I love the campus, small class sizes, helpful professors, high academic standards, and the connection between students. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is eager to learn.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe being nestled in the mountains and maintains a strict watch over students.
Greek Life Greek Life is definitely popular because it directly influences the Dahlonega community through the philanthropies and allows you to meet new people and be involved in the University.
Clubs and Activities Many students are involved in greek life and they love it! Others are in involved in clubs, inter murals, and other organizations.
Great for these types of students North Ga is great for people who want a smaller school but many options of degrees and types of people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You absolutely cannot walk across the drill field or on the grass where the cannon is. These traditions are out of respect for the University and the corps of cadets.
Bang for the buck It is definitely a good school if you want a quality education but not quite as much debt.
What to do for fun Many people like to go hiking, camping, and fishing. Others like to layout on the drill field. And there is plenty to see on the square!
Food and Dining The new dinning hall is not so good but many of the restaurants on the square in Dahlonega are delicious and wonderful.
Dorm Life The Resident Assistants work hard to create a sense of community and positive atmosphere.
Academic Rigor North Ga is ranked number 3 public school in the state and has one of the top nursing programs. It is not an easy school and the science, business, and psychology classes will push you the most.
Tips for prospective students New students should live in the dorms it is a good experience and you will meet some of your good friends, go to class, and be involved it will help you grow to love North Ga.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus police are everywhere. there are several call lights & buttons placed strategically throughout the campus.
Greek Life did not participate.
Clubs and Activities i do not know b/c i did not participate.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You are not allowed to walk across the drill field @ any time, unless otherwise designated. Also only Seniors & alumni can walk through a Arbor way on one of the paths in front of the school.
Bang for the buck The cost is average I would say. The only thing that I do not agree with are some of the fees that are automatically included in our tuition, whether we use certain facilities are not.
What to do for fun I know that there are a lot of activities that are offered around campus, but again I didn't live on campus & I did not participate.
Food and Dining i did not eat on campus.
Dorm Life i lived off campus.
Academic Rigor The Academics are not bad if you work at it. Just like anything else in life, you have to work hard to succeed.

What to do for fun With the mountains so close, activities should not be hard to find. The Corp of Cadets has numerous extracurriculars as well.
Food and Dining Didnt try the food on our visit but the mess hall appears to be clean and organized with a large variety. Its college food end of story
Dorm Life Brand new dorms are clean and organized with great views.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This is a very safe campus. Campus Safety is always a phonecall away if you ever have car trouble or need anything.
Greek Life This school is covered in Greek Life. You dont have to get involved if you do not want to, but if you go here you will get asked to at some point.
Clubs and Activities Lots of things to get involved in! There is literally something for everyone.
Great for these types of students Rednecks will definately like this school. There are many other kinds of students as well, though.
What to do for fun There is always some activity going on around campus. Several concerts occur on campus throughout the year. The historical town of Dahlonega has many little shops that are fun to visit. Intramurals are always an option if you enjoy sports. There is also an indoor swimming pool, recreations center, and rock wall. Of course, you can always drive down to the nearby town of Dawsonville if you want to see a movie or shop at the outlets.
Food and Dining Dining is not so bad but there is not much variety in the dining hall. There are other food locations throughout campus which are convenient if you need to grab a bite to eat inbetween classes and do not have much time. There are also alot of close-by fast food and dine-in restaurants in town, which is also nice.
Dorm Life I cant say much about dorm life because I dont live in the dorms, but based off of what I have heard they are decent.
Academic Rigor You will be challenged acedemically. Standards are high and you are held accountable. For example, class absances are not tolerated very well. I chose four stars only because acedemic resources are probably less available compared to larger Ivy League- type schools.
Tips for prospective students If you like the city, this is not the place to be. There are some fun things to do around, but you sometimes have to be creative and many activities that are available in metropolitan areas are not quite so available here.
In three sentences North Georgia is a somewhat small sized school nestled in the friendly hometown atmosphere of Dahlonega, Ga. Professors are personable and accomodating. You will receive a great education here and have wonderful opportunities to meet alot of great people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are always campus police patrolling
Greek Life they have an active greek life.
Great for these types of students military people, social people, people who do not party very much, friendly people and any almost any type of person.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a field in the middle of the campus called the drill field that you cannot cross or you might be tackled or yelled at. At 5 oclock everyday you have to stop what you are doing and wait for the cannon shot to be fired and the american flag to be lowered.
Bang for the buck i think it is a little spendy on things like dorms and food but its alot better than other universities
What to do for fun I hang out with friends, go to the zumba classes, go to the gym, and swim at the pool.
Food and Dining the chow hall is pretty good food. you can get tired of it pretty quick but since i am not a picky eater, i try to change what i eat in the hall.
Dorm Life i am a commuter so i do not know what it is like but i have seen the dorms and they are very nice.
Academic Rigor like every school, some classes are easy and some are difficult with lots of homework. it all depends on your teacher. you can see what your teacher might be like at RateMyProfessor.com.
Tips for prospective students Obey the traditions the school has or you have the risk at getting yelled at. Cover your ears if you are near the military cannon that goes off everyday at 5, its extremely loud. Pay your parking tickets the day you receive them because the fine will be reduced by half. i suggest going to dorks bookstore before going to the schools book store because it it cheaper.
In three sentences North Georgia College and State University is an amazing school and that has a beautiful campus and small classes that your professors can get to know you. People are, for the most part, friendly and helpful and the school has many clubs and activities to get to know people. I also really like the clinic because you can get three items a day with no charge, like pain relievers, vitamins, condoms, and dental floss.

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the safest campuses in the state! Police are constantly on campus and off campus. You can go for a midnight stroll with absolutely no worries!
Greek Life Greek life at North Georgia is quite different from other schools. Many associate Fraternities and Sororities with partying and drinking. However, North Georgia is a dry campus. You still have the wonderful bond of brother hood and sister hood!
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities at the college. Don't see one you are interested in? Then start one! Being a military college, North Georgia strongly encourages leadership. So go out and be a leader and start your very one club!
Great for these types of students North Georgia is great for the outdoors type and outgoing type.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus North Georgia is a military so we do have traditions we follow strictly. At 5 O'clock everyday the cannon goes off and all are to stand and remain silent as the flag American Flag is retired for the day. At midnight, Taps is played as a signal for all ROTC to return to the dorms. At the center of the college is the drill field. It is forbidden to cross the drill field in order to try and save time to get to class.
Bang for the buck North Georgia gives a lot to the students and the location assists as well. There is no need to drive anywhere as the college is right beside the downtown area. Also, they try include a lot in the tuition, which if you have hope is already payed for! For example, you can do your laundry at the dorms with no cost!
What to do for fun North Georgia is located in the mountains so there are many out doors activities to do! At Pine Valley, there are ropes courses and tubing to partake in. There are also numerous camping spots to go to. Don't have camping equipment? Not a problem! North Georgia has tents and sleeping bags and more available to check out with your student ID card.
Food and Dining Dining is always a surprise at NGCSU. They have special things they do through out the week such as: chocolate day, pancake day, make your own sundaes, and more that continue through out the year! There's also a variety of foods so you will never tire of choices!
Dorm Life Residence Life is one of the best aspects about NGCSU. Your Resident Assistant will constantly have hall socials to allow everyone on the hall to bond and become closer. You will also bond with the other resident halls and never have a dull moment.
Academic Rigor As always, classes vary depending on subject, teacher, and student's dedication. However, due to classroom sizes the teachers are always more than willing to assist students in any way possible. Also, tutoring is constantly available throughout the week so that you can fit it into your schedule. You will never be denied an opportunity to improve yourself.
Tips for prospective students You will never meet an unfriendly human being at North Georgia College & State University. This is the friendliest college you will ever attend. Great for transition into beginning college life.

Greek Life This is not your typical Greek life. We have the parties (off campus) and the formals but thats not it. We also have sweethearts for military companies which the Greek girls love.
Clubs and Activities So many clubs! From swing dancing to shooting team, and a great greek life too.
Great for these types of students We aren't very diverse, yet. But the female dominate population and the male cadets are very hysterical.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We are a school full of tradition! Which at first seemed silly to me, but we are a military school! (but we have both cadets and non cadets, which is very unique).
Bang for the buck Really reasonable!
What to do for fun We are located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, so plenty of outdoor pursuits! Not to mention some Greek life parties :)
Tips for prospective students Don't get bored on weekends! People complain that the school is a commuter school, so they leave every weekend. That is why it is boring to them, they go home!
In three sentences Great small school with history that doesn't bore you. I love the campus and the small Dahlonega community. We are really developing the school and growing with more majors and a lot of study abroad.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Emergency response boxes are all over campus. Strong police presence. Military presence. Overall, an extremely safe campus. I have no qualms about walking around by myself.
Great for these types of students Students seeking a smaller school in a less-urban setting will be right at home here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Too many to name them all. Notable feature of campus is the drill field. (It is the Military College of Georgia.)
What to do for fun Great intramural programs. Also, you're in the mountains, surrounded by wonderful outdoor opportunities (hiking, tubing, kayaking, mountain biking) in the lovely North Georgia area. Take advantage!
Food and Dining What I've had in the dining hall (called Chow around campus) has been about what you'd expect of college cafeteria food. Not the best, not home cooking, but edible without having to force it down and some meals are pretty tasty.
Dorm Life Also, I have yet to have an extended experience in the dorms, but the Residence Life staff are very communicative and have been making sure that students are ready for move-in.
Academic Rigor I don't have any firsthand experience with the courses as of yet, however, I have been told that, while challenging, the coursework is also engaging, entertaining, and worth the effort.
Tips for prospective students Be forewarned: the campus is quite hilly. The school is very rooted in tradition, so if you attend, familiarize yourself with what is expected of students.
In three sentences The campus is absolutely gorgeous! Sunrise, mountain air-- refreshing, to say the least. A wonderful setting to give you peace of mind while pursuing an education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe campus
Greek Life Did not participate but it is available if interested
Clubs and Activities There are many to choose from but being in the nursing program severely limits your ability to do any extracurriculars. The Honors program is great!
Great for these types of students Conservative students with a sense of duty, honor, and loyalty to country. Students who enjoy the outdoors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Do not move when the trumpet plays and the canon is going to go off. Prepare to wake up at 7 am to military cadences whether you are in the corps of cadets or not. Do NOT walk across the drill field for any reason.
Bang for the buck great price for great education
What to do for fun Local bars if you are into that scene, sports, the square, hiking at amicalola, running.
Food and Dining There was always a good spread out at meal times whenever I went to chow hall; however, I have not been to the new eating facilities yet.
Dorm Life I enjoyed my dorm experience for the most part; however, I lived at Owen Hall - the apartment dorm.
Academic Rigor The nursing program is VERY rigorous.
Tips for prospective students Study hard, email the people who matter and try to speak to your prospective department prior to acceptance, tour the campus and soak it all in while it lasts.
In three sentences The college campus is beautiful, but ever expanding and changing. The presence of ROTC yields the college to military traditions and regulations which gives NGCSU a stately quality, openly demonstrating its excellence in leadership. The quality of education for the expenses paid is one of the best in the nation.

Categories Comments Campus Safety NGCSU has an active Campus Police Department. This is an alcohol free campus and is strictly enforced. Cameras are literally everywhere!
Bang for the buck NGCSU is one of six senior military colleges. It is the only one that is all Army. When comparing cost it is the least expensive of the other schools in this catagory.
What to do for fun NGCSU is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. There are lots of outdoor recreation oportunities. Local festivals abound and are fun. If you are looking for a party school, then this would not be the school for you.
Food and Dining NGCSU has a newly constructed dining facility. The foods great with a wide selection. There are multiple locations on campus in which you can grab a cup of coffe or a light sandwich and head straight to a study group or other activity.
Dorm Life Dorm life at NGCSU is great. The dorm that I am staying in is newly constructed and requires student id for entry. Laundry facilities, a complete kitchen along with a recreation room are in each dorm building.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at NGCSU is tough but the class sizes are small. The professors are there to help. The ability to join study groups is a real plus.
Tips for prospective students The small size makes it convenient to move around campus. Visit North Georgia College and State University and judge for yourself. It will be worth the trip!
In three sentences When I started my college search I visited three senior military colleges. Once I visited NGCSU I knew it was the perfect fit for me. Its a small school in a small town setting.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Super safe! It's a very quiet and cute town with mostly older residents but there are blue light beacons everywhere that you can go to and call an escort if you feel in danger at any time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The canon fires in the mornings to signal the start of the day and everyone has to freeze, stop cars, stop everything at 5 o'clock when the flag is taken down, the bugle sounds and the canon fires everyday.
What to do for fun Shop on the square, participate in events around campus, canoe, hike, and just enjoy the beauty of the mountains.
Food and Dining Great!! So much to choose from every single day.
Dorm Life So much fun, you definitely meet great new people and the facilities are not too shabby.
Academic Rigor It's tough depending on the teacher but over all I believe it's the perfect balance of challenging and easy going.
Tips for prospective students We are consolidating with Gainesville State University so the campus will be more widespread and available to more students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are poles with buttons to press if you are in danger, as well as 24/7 security.
Bang for the buck If you are looking for a school to get fit at, this is definitely a good one to pay attention to. There is a multilevel gym with many different fitness classes such as yoga, swing dancing, zumba, kickboxing, and self defense courses. You can also sign up to have a personal trainer, and get a nutrition plan. There is also an olympic sized pool to use, and the hills on campus are a great workout as well.
What to do for fun Many students on campus go to the gym and pool to workout, and also join intramural sports. There are also many events, such as movie nights, held on campus.
Food and Dining There are many options including a Mongolian grill, salad bar, ice cream and other desserts, pizza station, traditional American, as well as a burger place.
Dorm Life There are a lot of activities that you and all the people on your hall will do as a whole together in order to ensure that you get to know each other and that you always have someone to have fun with.
Academic Rigor This university's professors push their students hard daily and do not just stand their and talk at you instead of teaching you.
Tips for prospective students If you wish to join ROTC, make sure you are willing to have a lot more discipline in your life as well as physical activity. As for academics, many classes have some of the days online, so its important to remember to do the work by the time it's due.
In three sentences North Georgia College and State University is a great school with an empowering ROTC program for people wishing to prepare themselves to join the army, but is also a great place to educate kids who do not wish to join the army. There are many opportunities on campus to join clubs and fraternities, as well as sororities. NGCSU is somewhere students should definitely consider if they wish to seek out strong educators who prepare young adults for the very real and competitive adult world.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They have phones all throughout the campus, so that if you ever have a problem or don't feel safe someone will come by and help you out.
What to do for fun Even though we don't have a football team, everyone loves going to the soccer and basketball games. Also the school gets really excited when our rugby team plays other schools like the Citadel.
Food and Dining The food here is really good. They have a menu that is constantly changing so you never have the same thing twice in a week.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice, but if you live in the same building as the cadets and you are a civilian, just know you will here them running outside your window every morning at 7 A.M.
Academic Rigor The classes can be challenging, but as long as you do your work, study, and push yourself, you can do very well here.
Tips for prospective students Work hard during your junior and senior years to boost up your GPA, it will really help to build your work ethic for college.

Categories Comments Campus Safety NGCSU is an extremely safe campus, and our able-bodied security is hardly ever necessary.
Greek Life Greek life is the largest of the college organizations at North Georgia. W have several sororities and fraternities.
Clubs and Activities We have many clubs for students to participate in, and there is practically always an event going on somewhere on campus for students to join in on.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus North Georgia was founded as a military college, and one tradition that continues is that every day, at 5pm, all students stop what they are doing and remain still, standing at attention, while a bugle plays and a cannon is fired off.
Bang for the buck Going to North Georgia is a bargain. It is amazing how little it costs to attend this school for how much you can get out of it.
What to do for fun Unfortunately North Georgia is up amongst the mountains, which means that it is a little bit less exciting than other schools. Hikes and fishing are popular here.
Food and Dining The food on campus is very easily accessible and also good. Our dining hall (chow hall) is very modern and comfortable.
Dorm Life I have heard that life in most of the dormitories on campus is very nice.
Academic Rigor The faculty realizes that North Georgia has to work to be recognized as academically comparable to many other big-name schools in Georgia, and they help the students to strive to attain perfection and professionalism.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in a lot of student organizations. The whole town is practically adjacent to the college, so go ahead and get a job during school to help pay for things. Utilize the fantastic library and research center.

Categories Comments Campus Safety North Georgia is a military college. It is an extremely safe campus. The campus police and security are very responsive as well.
Greek Life There are several Greek Life organizations, but no Greek villages (sorority or fraternity housing).
Clubs and Activities There are several clubs one can be involved in. There is Student Activities Board, Student Government Association, Greek Life, several student ministries and many more options. One also has the freedom to easily start their own clubs and become more involved on campus.
Great for these types of students Great for students who like being in a rural setting and like being in the mountains. Also great for more conservative minded students. It is a small university so it has a very close- knit feel. You will always find someone you know no matter where you are going on campus. It is a great place to be for students who have drive and initiative and enjoy challenges.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every day at five o'clock in the evening, there is a tradition called Retreat. Everyone, including cars, must stop while they are on campus and turn and face the flag. This is to salute the fallen soldiers. Also, no one is ever allowed to cut across the drill field to get to another area on campus. You have to walk around it no matter what. You may play, study, attend events and socials on the drill field, but you must never cut across it just to get to another place.
Bang for the buck You get amazing benefits when you attend the college as well as a high quality, well rounded education. When you attend the school and pay your fees, you have unlimited access to all the amenities of the campus. You are automatically given a gym membership in the brand new, state of the art recreational department. You can go there as many times as you want, any time you want. You have access to the pool as well. You have access to the media center whenever you want. For commuters, you have free parking on campus. You are allowed to park in any parking spot on campus after five o'clock every day. You have free access to the IT department as well as the writing lab. You can also get discounts at several different areas around Dahlonega by showing businesses your Student ID. Freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus. It is a military college, so it is more conservative. Cadets have to open doors for you and take your trays at lunch. Chivalry is definitely not dead on this campus.
What to do for fun There are several events and concerts that are held on campus. Hiking and camping is a popular off campus activity. Intramural sports are very popular as well as socials that are sponsored by NGCSU's Greek organizations.
Food and Dining The food is good for a school dining hall. Of course, it isn't anything compared to home or any other restaurant, but the quality for the kind of food you are getting is very good.
Dorm Life I am a commuter, but I have several friends who are staying in dorms and are very pleased with their experience.
Academic Rigor The core classes are challenging, but they are far from boring. The biology and nursing department is one of the best anywhere. North Georgia also has a wonderful business school as well as an excellent physics and chemistry department. The fine arts department is small, but it is growing and changing rapidly. North Georgia's music department has top notch professors who genuinely care about the students, but expect a lot out of the students.
Tips for prospective students I recommend the CLEP test in order to test out of some of your core classes in order to focus on your upper division classes. I also recommend being involved in the music department in some way. Their fine arts department is small, yet excellent! One of the big rules on the campus is to never, ever, cut across the drill field in the middle of the campus in order to get to another area. Always walk around the drill field. This is a rule that was put in place out of respect of the fallen soldiers who trained on the drill field.
In three sentences This is a beautiful campus that has a private college feel. Their academics are challenging but, they are very intriguing. There are many wonderful benefits you will receive during your years at this school as well as after you graduate.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Since North Georgia is a military college, cadets are constantly patrolling the campus, and emergency alert boxes are strategically placed around campus.
Greek Life I am not affiliated with any Greek Life societies, but I have heard from many students that the Greek Life is safe and well-respected.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs offered to students, including honors societies, community-service oriented clubs, major-minor based clubs, and religious clubs. Most clubs accept all new-members, and they offer great opportunities for new students to make friends on campus and earn community service hours at the same time.
Great for these types of students Outgoing, dedicated, outdoor-sy, fun-loving, adventurous, friendly, family-oriented, caring students that are looking for the best education for their money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Do NOT walk across the Drill Field. Ever. No exceptions. And be prepared to have all of your dining dollars snatched away by the on-campus Starbucks and Java City.
Bang for the buck North Georgia is a much cheaper school than the larger universities of the Southeast, and you're offered very similar academic excellence.
What to do for fun There are many clubs and intramural recreational sports teams at North Georgia College and State University; you're bound to find at least one that you can join.
Food and Dining The Dining Hall has a wide selection of food to offer to resident students or those with a block meal plan, but it has its days. Most of the time the food is adequate, but you do have those meals where the food is amazing; it all just depends on luck and knowing when to eat fast food.
Dorm Life You would never expect to have noisy neighbors at 3 o'clock in the morning on a Thursday, but, unfortunately, it happens. Noisy neighbors may be my biggest complaint about the dorm life at North Georgia, but that is easily manageable if you have an efficient R.A. that can handle those kinds of issues.
Academic Rigor I have to admit, for a small public university, North Georgia College and State University demands a hefty amount of work from their students. As a first-semester freshman, I was shocked to hear that some of my fellow students were failing classes in college when they were straight-A students in high school. Although, even though the professors may expect a lot from the students, they are very approachable and are always willing to help their students master the criteria for the class.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking at applying to the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, or any other large college/university in the Southeast but don't want to pay the large tuition fees, then North Georgia College and State University is perfect for you! I graduated in the top 10% of my class and I had the potential to study at the University of Georgia, but I was overwhelmed by the incredible size of Athens. North Georgia, on the other hand, is much more compact, and the university offers just as many opportunities for success as a large school.
In three sentences North Georgia is an amazing university, and I find myself loving something new everyday. There are many great clubs and opportunities at the school, and the professors and advisors are extremely helpful. All in all, I am thankful that I chose this university over a larger school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has a full-time police department that patrols regularly. Petty thefts, alcohol related issues, and sexual assault still occur, so it is recommended that students still be careful of who they associate with and their surroundings.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for just about any activity, and if there is not, then you can create your own! Try to have fun!
Great for these types of students Overall, this is a generally conservative campus versus the normally liberal stereotype of campus life.
Bang for the buck This is by far the best value for a University education in North Georgia. The tuition is low, the faculty is good, and the campus is wonderful.
What to do for fun If you are into outdoor pursuits, you will love NGCSU! Nearby are hiking, camping, climbing, tubing, rafting, kayaking, dozens of miles of mounting biking trails, the Six Gaps for road cycling, and of course, the Appalachian Trail!
Food and Dining The university has a new dining facility that is very nice, but the food is not very high quality and the meal plan required of resident students is on the expensive side.
Dorm Life The civilian suites and ROTC housing is relatively new and still in very good shape. The civilian suites are a bit far from the center of campus and on the other side of campus from the library, so this is something to keep in mind when scheduling classes and meetings.
Academic Rigor Just like any other university, academic rigor is not just about the faculty but also about what classes are chosen, how much effort is expended, and students themselves. Lower level classes are generally larger, but the difficulty is comparatively low compared with the more engaging, smaller, and challenging upper level classes.
Tips for prospective students Apply early! Do not worry until the last moment to get everything submitted. If you plan to commute, the easiest place to find a parking spot is in the main campus parking deck if you do not want to circle around the lot looking for a spot.
In three sentences North Georgia is a good small college environment but with very good professors and an ongoing campus revitalization and regular technology upgrades to keep pace with the ever changing nature of educational demands. North Georgia is be far the best University in the area and the class sizes are kept small with ample academic support.

Categories Comments Campus Safety If you don't feel safe on this campus, then you have some serious personal issues. There are roughly 900 cadets who have their own rifle in an armory, campus security patrols constantly, and this school attracts generally good people. Since my time here, I haven't heard of any incidents happening on campus. It is safe here.
Greek Life Greek life is great. You meet so many people. They have their parties, but they like to help out the community too.
Clubs and Activities There are multiple clubs on campus. Can't find one you like? Make a club.
Great for these types of students This college is great for military prospects, and people who love the outdoors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus An unusual tradition is that you can't walk on the grass, because of the history behind the school and how it use to be an agricultural school.
Bang for the buck In comparison to other colleges, this college is no where near as expensive.
What to do for fun Dahlonega, Ga is in the mountains. Go hiking, play sports outside, go swimming, go tubing down the rivers, go camping, go rock climbing. Dawsonville is not too far away too, so movies are still an option too.
Food and Dining The Dining Hall, or Chow Hall as we call it here, is good. They have different choices everyday, but their hours are kinda limited.
Dorm Life Dorm life is ok. If you are always in your room, then you aren't having fun. Get out and live a little, but don't forget about your studies.
Academic Rigor I can only speak for my major, but classes aren't all that bad. Pay attention and take notes. Don't be too timid to think that you can't ask questions or that you will try to learn it later. Learn in class, and study what you learn in your dorm.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of your grades. Time management is key in college. It is hard to bounce back if you have a bad semester, but it can be done. Don't forget to have fun too.
In three sentences This is a great school, especially for ROTC cadets. They have a large language department and nursing department. The social life is great too.

Tips for prospective students Be sure you study a lot when you have a computer major. Try to talk to older students to get better teachers. Avoid going to Java City at all costs.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police roam around all the time. With a small campus, it seems like they're everywhere.
Greek Life There aren't a whole lot of fraternities and sororities on campus, but there is a good selection. Greek life is very prominent on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities on campus. Finding something to do, or a group to get involved in isn't hard.
Great for these types of students Great for outdoorsy type students and students who'll work hard, and are motivated.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are a lot of military students on campus. Contrary to the usual university with an ROTC program, there are usually about 600 plus cadets doing PT in the middle of campus every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We also have a drill field that used to be used for agriculture but is now used for recreational and military purposes. You never cross the drill field as a short cut.
Bang for the buck You'll graduate with a good degree, and there are a lot of opportunities to succeed. They have done a lot of construction recently, so many of the facilities are new.
What to do for fun If you like the outdoors, there are few better places to be. Hiking, rafting, and camping are all within minutes of campus.
Food and Dining The dining hall food is good, depending on what they're serving. If you don't have a meal plan, there are other options on campus and off in the square.
Dorm Life Depends which dorms you live in. Traditional student dorms are nice, and some halls are really close. Military dorms are nice, though you will be woken up early every morning for obvious reasons. The company's are very close. The suites are nice but they aren't as close as military or traditional dorms.
Academic Rigor The academics aren't very hard. This isn't a big name university known for it's rigorous acceptance standards. They do however, give you a challenge. Don't come here thinking it'l be a breeze.
Tips for prospective students Work hard to get here, and keep an open mind about what there is to do around campus. Just because it doesn't seem like there's a lot to do, doesn't mean you can't find something.
In three sentences It's a beautiful campus at the foot hills of the Appalachian mountains. The people here are very nice, and friendly. The classes aren't to hard, but still give you a challenge.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police is out all the time and you can always call them if you need anything. Dahlonega is a small town with a comfortable atmosphere.
Greek Life 5 national chapter sororities, 7 national chapter fraternities, and 2 local chapters. Compared to other schools, I have heard that they are not as expensive to be involved in.
Clubs and Activities Greek Life, Religious Organizations, Academic Clubs, and Student Groups-there is always something going on.
Great for these types of students Many students who love the outdoors are extremely happy here. Though this is a public school, it is not overwhelmingly huge-great if you want to be more than a number.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus North Georgia is unique because we host the Corps of Cadets. There are many respected traditions that surround them.
Bang for the buck North Georgia is rated among the top colleges for cost effectiveness.
What to do for fun Hiking, caving, and stuff outdoors is very popular. The North Georgia Outlet Mall is 15 minutes away. Also SAB (Student Activities Board) and ResLife (Resident's Life) plan many fun activities.
Food and Dining The main service is referred to as Chow. You have a choice of various meal plans. After a while it will get old. They provide many options though. There are also new options on campus at the student center. You can use your Saints Dining Dollars at these restaurants.
Dorm Life The Residence Life Staff is amazing and they make the dorm experience unforgettable. They are required to have a certain number of socials every semester so you will definitely have the opportunity to make friends and have fun.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging but not impossible. Most professors are happy to help in you're having any problems.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. Get to know your teachers. Get to know your peers.

Food and Dining A variety of choices. Not open all night.
Dorm Life Everything goes on at the suites. The suites are not as bad as the dorms with the sharing, your only sharing with your suite mates rather than the whole floor.
Academic Rigor Great academic standards

Categories Comments Campus Safety Great safety. I haven't heard of any offenses.
Greek Life Pick a club!
Clubs and Activities The student organizations have many clubs, and there are activities every day.
Great for these types of students I am a computer science guy, but not far advanced, so I don't have to compete just yet. I see a lot of Cadets around, as well as Nursing and Business students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I love just walking through the park of flags to the library, maybe grab a seat on a bench along the way and read or sit under the huge willow and drink my Starbucks.
Bang for the buck Well worth the money. Price the college, you won't be disappointed. This college has an awesome learning environment.
What to do for fun This college has some of the countries greatest outdoor resources. So if you like hiking, fishing, biking, and anything else outdoors you can think of this is the place.
Food and Dining Great variety on and off campus - even within walking distance.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorm, but I hear nothing but good things.
Academic Rigor It can be as easy or hard as you want to push yourself.
Tips for prospective students Research your classes, get your finances in order, and continue to take the SAT and ACT as many times as you can afford (se the best grades of course.)

Categories Comments Campus Safety Nothing happens in Dahlonega.
Greek Life There is greek life, but it's not as demanding as other schools. Which, I like a lot because some schools greek life won't talk to people outside of it, and demand tons of money and required events that take away from school.
Clubs and Activities Lots and lots of clubs!
Great for these types of students Ones that like a small environment. The school and town are very small, so if you're a city personal this is not the place for you. However, if you are wanting to go into the Corps of Cadets, this is a great school for that.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You cannot walk through the drill field. If on the drill field you have to be doing some sort of activity.
Bang for the buck Overall the school is not expensive, when you compare it to others.
What to do for fun Hang out with friends, and crochet.
Food and Dining Very average in the Chow Hall, but the student center has awesome food!
Academic Rigor Lots of studying needs to happen to get the grades you want.
Tips for prospective students Study! Study! Study! North Georgia is getting harder and harder to get into!
In three sentences This is a great school. The campus and student population is small, giving you a closer relationship to other students, as well as teachers. The town is adorable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety That is one thing UNG has down, campus security is insane here. They love to give parking tickets, but they are also very helpful and there for the students. Great people!
Greek Life Do not participate in.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs and lots of opportunities to jump in and have fun/ make a difference.
Great for these types of students Outdoor students, military students, and those looking to complete their degree in a beautiful place.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Submarine under the drill field.
Bang for the buck I am an out of state student and the only way I can afford UNG is by participating in the Corps of Cadets. Not my first choice, but one can manage. The biggest disappointment for how much I pay is in the faculty. Have yet to be impressed by a teacher.
What to do for fun Lots of clubs and student run programs. The outdoors here is incredible and easy to access. Art club, rugby, fishing, rock climbing, math club, rotoract club, honor students, intramural s, etc.
Food and Dining Dining facilities are AWESOME, but the food is very poor. Lacks nutrition and its the same from week to week. Very disappointed in the way the chow hall prepares food for its students.
Dorm Life The Corps of Cadets and civilians have very little interaction with one another. I live in the barracks and the barracks are strict, so there is very little privacy. But I signed up for that, so it doesn't bother me.
Academic Rigor The academics here, from the general education studies to the core classes vary, but most are not an easy A or even B.
Tips for prospective students Join clubs and be active within the community. Study and be curious, don't be afraid to switch your major. Pursue your dreams at UNG.
In three sentences A great school, but lacks in the teacher rankings. Facilities are brand new and they course load varies from major to major. It is not an easy college.

Dorm Life The Suites are new and really comfortable. Just need a good roommate and you are all set.
Academic Rigor All of my professors were nice and really helpful.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Mostly outdoor activities, most of the students go home during the weekend so the campus is a ghost town. There are parties which are not bad and that's what most of the people do on the weekends if the party isn't bad. If your wanting to have a college experience with great social outings and good parties, not the school to come too.
Food and Dining Terrible. You pay 1800 for food that on most occasions only have pizza available which is not even very good. For the amount of money you pay the dining is terrible.
Dorm Life If your going into the corps of cadets, there really isn't alot to do in the dorms since it is very strict. If you come to the school as a civilian most of the people in the dorms stay in their rooms and keep to themselves unless you meet them outside of the dorms.
Academic Rigor Small classroom size and very nice teachers who will want to set up times to work with you one on one. If your a Biology major be prepared to do alot of work with little time to socialize.
Tips for prospective students If you are joining the corps of cadets do realize that it is a three year contract and if you try to leave the cadets in order to become a regular college student, you will have to leave the school entirely for one academic year. If you plan on joining the core of cadets it will teach you discipline but it will get in the way of your studies if you are not focused. Sometimes when you are focused it will get in the way.
In three sentences Is a great school, The teachers and small classroom size are great for your success. Not alot to do unless you have a car but the area is perfect for outdoor activities. If your looking for a school that's minimum on partying and the social college experience then come here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Walking around at night feels completely safe. Plenty of lights around and it is usually not completely deserted.
Greek Life Greek life appears to be a pretty big part of campus and it definitely helps keep people busy.
Clubs and Activities I've never seen a bigger variety of clubs anywhere else.
Great for these types of students Commuters have a few special events every semester (usually involving free breakfast food) to help them feel more accommodated on campus. Any student who likes small class sizes and teachers who know your name and are willing to answer your questions will be able to find the motivation to go to class every day here!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a very strong military influence on campus so there are some traditions about where you are allowed to walk (don't cross the drill field) that may seem a little quirky but they are unique and an important part of campus to a lot of people.
Bang for the buck Quality education with teachers who generally care about our education and how well we do in class.
What to do for fun There are a huge variety of clubs at the school, including academic (math, physics..), athletic (rowing, climbing..) and various interests clubs. The North Georgia outlets are only a 30-45 minute drive away, and you are sure to run into classmates as many students here work at the outlets. There is a planetarium open every Friday, students in the theater club put on free plays for students, and the library has a huge selection of books and movies to check out to students for free.
Food and Dining This semester (spring 2013) they've really improved the selections available for food. The dining hall is only about one year old and has plenty of options. The new student center which just opened this semester also has nice, reasonably priced options to choose from.
Dorm Life The dorms are not the best and there are plenty of rules and restrictions to keep you from getting in trouble. They generally are not too strict to keep you from having a good experience here, but most people I've talked to who live on campus find the prices to be a little too high for what you're getting.
Academic Rigor Most teachers have reasonably high expectations of students, with few exceptions to the rule. There is absolutely no tolerance for cheating, but other than that the highest expectation is that you do your reading and your homework so you can do your best in class.
Tips for prospective students Study harder than you did in high school. No matter what, college courses are going to be more reading-intensive and take more effort. However, don't stress. Homework is generally light but reading is important to make sure you understand material the teacher doesn't cover in class.
In three sentences It is a good school with small classes and activities for students. It is a small campus, easy to find where you're going, and everyone I've had questions for on campus has been very helpful. Overall, they're here to help you learn, not to make it difficult for you to get by.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel safe walking to my car at night by myself. You won't find that at many other campuses.
Greek Life Prominent. No housing, though.
Clubs and Activities Like I said, over 150 clubs and organizations.
Great for these types of students Any type of student will flourish here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus North Georgia is a senior military college, and we have lots of traditions centered around the Core of Cadets. Don't walk on the drill field!
Bang for the buck North Georgia provides a unique and enriching atmosphere to its students and will make you wish you could move in today.
What to do for fun Dahlonega is the cutest little town and the college has over 150 clubs and organizations to chose from. Students will have no problem finding a place that they fit in. Plus, if the school doesn't offer your favorite club, it's easy to start a new one!
Food and Dining The wide array of choices and prices will make any college students' tummy and wallet happy.
Dorm Life All types of Dorm Life are offered here. Traditional, Suites, and Apartment Style. All styles are affordable and accommodating for each lifestyle.
Academic Rigor The classes are college-level challenging, but North Georgia offers so many resources to help any level student succeed.
Tips for prospective students Apply for Scholarships. Apply for Scholarships. APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!
In three sentences The best decision I have ever made was coming to North Georgia. It is exactly the College experience that I have always imagined having. I couldn't think about going anywhere else.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want an excellent education for an affordable price will find NGC&SU to be a great value. The ROTC program is amazing.
Bang for the buck With education being so expensive these days, NGC is more economical that the big Universities. Their degrees are well recognized throughout the country. They have thriving graduate programs that offer hands-on experience.
What to do for fun Athens is the number one party town in the nation! The usual movies/restaurants/bars are very near campus. The beach and mountains are just a few hours away, so you can enjoy the beauty of nature. If that isn't enough, try Atlanta for the zoo, aquarium, plays, etc.
Food and Dining The Athens campus has a snack bar, but there is no dining facility. There are nearby quick service restaurants just minutes from the campus.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on the Athens, Ga campus and I have not lived in any of the Gainesville dorms.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging, but there are always tutors and professors willing to help you. The classes are much smaller than UGA, so you get to know your classmates and professors.
Tips for prospective students Learn how to and be prepared to study on a regular schedule! Learn to manage your time!
In three sentences NGC&SU has an emphasis on military education with a strong ROTC. It also has a strong business management and nursing program, as well as a great liberal arts department. The classes are small and intimate.

Categories Comments Campus Safety So so safe. Campus police patrol 24/7 and it is extremely safe. Nothing to worry about.
Greek Life Greek life is pretty popular, but isn't dominant in the campus population. We have 5 sororities and 7 fraternities (I think?).
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs here. Faith based, sport clubs, academic clubs, political, etc. Any club you want to have that isn't here can easily be added if you want it. There are tons of intramural sports as well.
Great for these types of students Great for all kinds of students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have lots of unusual traditions, being a military campus. At 5:00pm everyday a cannon fires and every one has to stop what they are doing, face the flag, and wait for the song to stop playing before they can resume activities. We have two arches in the front of campus--the upperclassman walk through the large one, and the freshmen have to walk through the small one. There are many more traditions here as well!
Bang for the buck I think the dining plans are a little over priced. Student fees are well worth it--our Student Activities Board plans awesome events for us that are already included in our tuition/fees for the year (i.e. Billy Currington concert, Spring carnival, outdoor movies, etc).
What to do for fun On nice days, people bring out the Enos and hammocks and just hang them in any open tree on campus. Lots of people just sit outside on the drill field to read or study. Hiking trails are all around us, since we're right near the Appalachian trail. An outlet mall and movie theater is 20 minutes away. We have the Dahlonega square, a nice little downtown area with some shops and restaurants.
Food and Dining The food is average. There are a ton of options, so finding something to eat isn't a problem. We have a great salad/soup bar, we always have pizza, make your own sandwich stations, and Asian food, and occasionally a pasta bar. The southern food line has a unique menu everyday.
Dorm Life Your dorm experience completely depends on which residence hall you choose to live in. The traditional halls are great for the social butterflies. The Suites are amazing for the people that can be social butterflies, but also like having a little privacy. And the apartments are for those who really like their privacy or just like to keep to themselves. There is something for everyone here.
Academic Rigor The rigor is at an average level. I was an IB student in high school, and the classes are relatively easy for me. It just depends on your major.
Tips for prospective students Go visit all your other school choices, then come to North Georgia. It blew all my others choices out of the water.
In three sentences North Georgia is the perfect 'home away from home'. The professors are wonderful and the people are incredible. I could not have chosen a better place to spend my college days.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is super safe. Probably one of the safest campuses in the state.
Greek Life Five sororities and lots of fraternities to choose from. I would love to see some more sororities on campus.
Clubs and Activities Go to open house and look at every booth. You can't go wrong with taking a flyer from the ones that interest you. There are way too many clubs to look at just once.
Great for these types of students If you like being outside come to NGCSU! We have more hiking, canoeing, camping, rock climbing, repelling and anything else you could think of on campus in the Rec Center and off campus at local venues.
Bang for the buck Definitely worth the price. Pretty moderate considering Ga Southern and UGA being our collegiate neighbors down south.
What to do for fun There's outdoors stuff, shopping on the square that is more than a handful of antique malls and general stores, and tons of stuff is always going on around campus. SAB and SGA have at least one thing planned for every day of the week.
Food and Dining Chow is ok on some days, but others I would recommend cooking yourself or going to Hoag to get food there. POD's are pretty good if your in a hurry and they cater to a wide variety of diets.
Dorm Life Great way to start your college experience at the beginning of the first semester. Definitely bond with your RA and everything will be fine. It gets a little noisy in the Suites sometimes and Donovan has a problem with constantly cold showers, but other than that it's fine.
Academic Rigor Depends on your major and professor. All departments have that one professor that no one wants to take, but has to in order to graduate. Over all, North Georgia has a wide variety in professors and academic rigor.
Tips for prospective students Go to intro! It's a great way to get a feel of the campus and knowing where everything is. Plus, getting to meet your future class mates and make new friends is always a bonus.
In three sentences North Georgia is great college for anyone looking for a wide range of study abroad opportunities and a fantastic staff of educators and administration.

Greek Life Greek life is amazing. They're always putting on events, either for fun or to raise money for the community and organizations.
Clubs and Activities There are so many great clubs to get involved in on my campus.
Great for these types of students Students that love the outdoors, love getting involved in the community, love festivals and music.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Zombie Week, Midnight Breakfast, Gold Rush.
Bang for the buck My school provides a great education like other schools, but at a not-so-expensive price.
What to do for fun For fun, my friends and I hike, get involved or volunteer, or hang out in square, shopping at the quaint shops or going to open mic night.
Food and Dining The food is good but just like any food you eat over and over, it can get boring.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome. The dorms are clean and nice. The RA's are helpful and reliable.
Academic Rigor The classes at my college are tough. But I'm sure they're not as tough as they could be.
Tips for prospective students There are many organizations to get involved in, but don't let yourself get caught up in it. Your education should be your number one priority.
In three sentences I love my college because it promotes good characteristics that I believe all college students should strive for.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is a top priority at North Georgia. There are security cameras in all entrances to dorms. Campus police patrol the campus 24/7 and help students with flat tires, locking their keys in the car, and keep parking chaos to a minimum. There are also emergency boxes scattered all over campus at every corner with bright blue lights on top.
Greek Life Greek life is very involved on campus. They have weekly events to raise money and get the campus involved in their philanthropies. The members of Greek life are so diverse, there is a place for everyone to feel welcome with.
Clubs and Activities On campus there is a club for everything imaginable. If there isn't a club that fits you're interest, you are given the option to create your own club for you and others interested in the same field.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students who love the outdoors, small classrooms, challenging academics, and a sense of school pride.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Having the Corps of Cadets on campus, there are many traditions at North Georgia that are not on other college campuses. Reveille is observed at 7:00am and Retreat is observed at 5:00pm. At these times the flag is raised/lowered, music played, and the cannon is fired. All personnel on campus, civilian and cadets, stop and observe the flag at this time. Some weekends the corps has ceremonies and promotions on the drill field that are open for anyone to observe.
What to do for fun Dahlonega is in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains, so there are mainly outdoor activities to do. Many waterfalls and hiking trails are a short drive from campus. Not far from campus is a section of the Appalachian Trail to camp and hike on. Down the road in Dawsonville, there is more dining options along with a Tanger outlet mall.
Food and Dining The Dahlonega square has many sit-down dining option that vary. Other than the square, there is a Dunkin Doughnuts, Moes, newly refurbished McDonald's, TacoBell, and Chick-fil-a.
Dorm Life Cadet barracks are not decorated, very simple with 3 dayrooms on each floor. The side dayrooms have 50 flatscreen TVs whereas the main dayroom contains a laundry room, kitchen, pool table, and ping pong table. The civilian dorms are quite decorated with whatever the student wishes. Some of theses dorms will share a bathroom on a hall where others have private bathrooms per room. Civilian halls will have socials to help everyone on the hall bond.
Academic Rigor The difficulty of classes depends on how difficult you want to make it. The more hours you take, the bigger the workload will be. Being a nursing student, I would recommend less classes, so you can devote full attention to keeping your GPA up.
Tips for prospective students The sence of school pride is overwhelming at times. Civilians take pride in attending a military college. Cadets mingle in with the civilians well. Do all of your research on a school and scholarships from the school before making your final decision.
In three sentences North Georgia is a beautiful campus centered around the historic drill field in the heart of Dahlonega, Georgia. With many student activities, tutoring services, and outdoor activities, students are seldom bored. This small campus offers students more of a hands on experience.
