Categories Comments Great for these types of students Dual-Enrolling students, students from North Idaho, students who enjoy outdoor activities or beautiful scenery, incoming freshman who are looking for an easy transition between high school and other Idaho schools
Tips for prospective students Just make sure you go to your classes and keep an open mind. They don't tolerate attitudes. Also, if you're not from the North Idaho area, we can tell. A lot of people tend to be discriminatory towards people that don't live here, so just be wary of that. Also, don't let the winters get to you. The summers are so worth it!
Bang for the buck It's great to earn college credits for such a low price, and while still in high school. Also, its in such a great location! The beach is literally just across the street from the campus, and downtown Coeur d' Alene is just a quick walk away. It's in a great spot for being so low-priced
Am enjoying being here It's an awesome experience for me, as a high schooler, to be able to attend a college and get the feel for the college. It's an easy way to get some of the experience that I'll have in a few years. Also, the teachers are all great and don't treat the vast numbers of high schoolers as high school students, but rather as actual college students.
Am learning a lot I am a high school student dual-enrolling at NIC, and its been a fine experience. I have learned most from my elective classes rather than the core classes. In my history class, for example, I haven't learned much. However, I have learned A LOT from my psychology and communications classes. It depends a lot on your attitude towards the class.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All types of students can come here. The students around campus are very open minded and interested in all sorts of cultures, games, music, activities etc that it won't be hard to make new friends.
Tips for prospective students Don't be scared. It's an environment that you can set to the pace that you want to go. If you wanna speed right to your degree and think you can handle the challenge then North Idaho College is perfect. If you want to lay back and take time to get your degree then North Idaho College is perfect.
Bang for the buck There is the movies close by, the lake, downtown shopping malls, parks, fairs, and all sorts of things that take place close to North Idaho College. Definitely worth it. NIC is close to just about everything and the campus isn't too big so walking to your destination won't take long.
Will enjoy being here I love the scenery and the close proximity to the lake for a nice, quiet study session.
Academic Rigor I learned a lot already as a dual enrolled student and now as a full time current student. So many degrees to choose from and many choices for electives. The teachers here are amazing and most are willing to work with you one on one or help set up tutoring which is FREE.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great school for anyone living in the area, especially if you need to hold a job or take care of things outside of your college education. It is good to get started if your coming straight out of high school, but it is especially good for anyone in the workforce or anyone who has family they need to care for.
Tips for prospective students If you care about your classes you can find the help you need to succeed. The tutoring center as some really good resources no matter how old you are or what your academic background is. The good news is, if you do well in a class, the college may hire you to be a tutor as well!:-) You will get the education you need if you go with a good attitude, wanting to learn.
Bang for the buck As a North Idaho resident, this is your best option if your looking for inexpensive and flexible. When I was in high school I really didn't want to go to NIC because it seemed to be less prestigious then other schools, however, they have good programs and don't charge much...housing in the area is affordable as well. All in all, it's a very good bang for your buck.
Am enjoying being here I love the small town atmosphere and seeing people that I know each time I walk on campus. The learning environment is very good and most of the teachers really want to help you succeed if you are willing to put in an effort.
Am learning a lot I have really appreciated NIC especially because it is smaller, so you actually can get to know teachers and get the help that you need. I have gone in to ask teachers to explain a concept to me, and they have been very helpful in answering my inquiries.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students students looking to earn a 2-year degree (a.a., a.s., a.a.s.). local students who want some secondary education 'under their belt'. students interested in a solid nursing program.
Tips for prospective students register early! do not wait until the last minute, or you may not get into the classes you want. there is a waitlist now (as of the fall 2011 semester), but it's better to get in early than squeak in at the last chance. also, if you are planning on applying for financial aid, do so several months before the semester begins. then you will have enough time to gather documents needed, and the college will have time to process it and contact you about further documentation, et cetera. parking is an issue when the semester begins, but a lot of the busyness dies down after awhile. but, there are parking lots up the road, about a 10-15 minute walk, so just come to class early and park there.
Bang for the buck the prices may appear differently to people in different financial situations, but this college has a much lower tuition than major universities and you still get the basics you need for associate degrees. in any case, i recommend that you apply for financial aid, even if you don't really need it. i received enough awards in grants to completely pay for my tuition and books. look for discounted sources to by textbooks and materials from instead of the college bookstore. you will save a lot of money! lab manuals are created and printed at the college, though, so you can buy those only at the college bookstore (which is known as the mica peak exchange). do not get student loans! ever! look for scholarships and grants, apply for financial aid, or ask relatives for college money, but do not get loans to pay for college! i know several people who have worked hard their entire adult lives to pay back the loans they had for school. if you can't find a means to pay for it without a loan, then don't go to college. period. :) it's for you're own good and the good of your family.
Am enjoying being here This campus is right on the Coeur 'D Alene Lake, and the scenery is outstanding. North Idaho College has a great atmosphere (I mean both the air and the people). The staff is so helpful,
Academic Rigor that pretty much sums it up right there: i am learning a lot!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is unparalleled. Their presence is well known and well reflected at N.I.C.
Clubs and Activities The athletic presence at North Idaho College is quite amazing for being a smaller campus. Not to mention all the other clubs represented at N.I.C. as well.
Great for these types of students Any student interested in a well rounded community college with a very personable presence would do well here.
Bang for the buck With cost of living relatively low and academic achievements extraordinarily high I would absolutely recommend this school for anyone on a budget or monetary constraint.
What to do for fun You can literally see Lake Coeur d' Alene from several class rooms and most of the campus. During spring, summer and early fall classes you can enjoy a relaxing break between classes on the beach or in the water.
Food and Dining N.I.C. has a wonderful cafeteria available to students and staff. They have a wide variety that caters to anyones taste or preferences.
Dorm Life With a new housing unit recently constructed at the heart of campus there is no part of the school that cannot be reached within a three minute walk. Door resident assistants are helpful and friendly as well.
Academic Rigor While North Idaho College doesn't have the upper level classes that a university may still prepare to be challenged academically. In such a one on one environment professors often develop a personal relationship with students that encourage nothing but excellent work.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to receive outcomes directly proportional to the effort you put into your education.
In three sentences North Idaho College is an exemplary college. N.I.C. is located in beautiful Coeur d' Alene and is well maintained. The education you can receive is amongst the ranking of popular universities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is highly safe. Security is driving around constantly. The dorms are impossible to get into unless you know somebody who lives there.
Bang for the buck For the money you put into the school which is not bad at all. You do get a high quality education for a little price. North Idaho College teaches their students like any other college would.
What to do for fun The lake is right next to the school for those who take summer classes. In the winter there are so many places around that you can walk to and stay warm and drink coffee or hot cocoa.
Tips for prospective students Mostly any tips I can give is get everything done that needs to be done before school starts. Stay in class and study what they tell you to study. Don't slack off in any classes for any reason. Stay focused, and be ready to learn quickly and proficiently.
In three sentences North Idaho College is a great school. North Idaho college spends so much time trying to teach the students the right things other than letting students slack. This college is one of the most helpful schools in Idaho state today.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Since NIC is located on the Coeur d'Alene Lake, in the fall and spring, the beach is definitely a popular place as well as kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and boating. In the winter, the ski resorts are as short as 30 minutes away to everyone hits the slopes when the snow hits!
Food and Dining The food definitely isn't that good home cooked meal that mom used to make but it's tolerable. There are different entrees every evening as well as your regular menu of cheeseburgers, fries, grilled cheese, etc.
Dorm Life I am living in the dorms and there is always something going on for you to be involved with. Scavenger hunts, movies, Minute-to-win-it games, are only a fraction of the things that have gone since the beginning of school and we're only half way through!! Plus the people living in the dorms are open to meet you and want to hang out! You never get bored.
Academic Rigor The classes, for me, aren't to bad. They're tough but definitely manageable. Plus the teachers are always open to help you if you don't understand or need more time with the material you're covering.
Tips for prospective students If you're thinking about applying, do it quick!! Classes fill up quickly so if you want a place where you will feel welcome and has tons of things to do, hurry and apply!
In three sentences North Idaho is a great place to go to college to figure out what you want to do if you don't already know, or to just knock out those core classes. This place has everything!! It's a beautiful place as well as the people here are so nice and welcoming.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Campus security is always driving around and in a small community everyone knows everyone, so if anything bad happened people would do something about it.
Greek Life No Greek Life
Clubs and Activities We have over 23 active clubs on campus, which diverse from Gay-Straight alliance to Cardinal Dancers, anyone is welcome to start a club and can be funded for its functions.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus has a program called cardinal connections, which connects the community and students with educational workshops and speckers. Also in the summer hundreds of artists (visual, performing, etc ) some together to display and sell their talent over a weekend, called Art on the Green.
Bang for the buck This college is the lowest tuition in the Northwest.
What to do for fun I hang out with friend in the Student Union Building for fun, there is usually alot of peope that I know and love to hang out with. Also there are always concerts, athletic games or student events to attend.
Food and Dining food and Dining has grown much. The market offers a welll diverse oppurtunities of asian, american, italian and salads for students. however some of the food has unhealthy ingredients and most people see it as over priced.
Dorm Life Dorms have a negative enviornment lots of drinking and drugs and have resulted in multiple problems with police and the school codes of conduct.
Academic Rigor I feel that the academics can be more rigorous, so that their classes can compete more with transfer institutions, however I do think the college has enough rigor to give the students the information they need to be well rounded and educated.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest for any prospective studentto go to the campus and take a tour to get familiar with campus and see every thing they have for students to get involved in and really grow as an individual.
In three sentences North Idaho College has a supportive enviornment that gives student the encouragement and drive to succeed. The Music Deparment well qualified and welcoming instructors that makes student feel challenged, engaged and passionate. The school has multiple programs for leadership development and really becoming a valued member of society.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck For the most part, your getting exactly what you paid for, but to attain a certain degree you pay for stupid classes that you'll never use in your life and I think that's a waste of money. But in general, its a good price, not too expensive and you get what your paying for.
Am enjoying being here Everything about this college is great!
Am learning a lot The small class size is nice, helps you learn better. The teachers provide hours where you can receive one on one help, so you fully understand what your doing.

Tips for prospective students Dont lose focus because the schools graduation system is confusing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety with a little bit of construction going on at the moment, safety is a must. with the work that north idaho college puts in to keep its students safe, the construction is just an inconvenience and not a hazard.
Great for these types of students this college is a great place to get your two year degree. although if one wants to get a four year degree, lewis and clark state college has a set up right here on campus and will allow one to take classes here instead of in lewiston.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus a must see event on campus is art on the green. it is a place where people from all over bring their handmade items and sell them. with music and games this is a great event for kids and adults alike.
What to do for fun north idaho college is literally right on the beach. in the summertime one can swim in between classes, or just hang out with friends. a great location to play beach volleyball and get a tan.
Food and Dining the food in the cafeteria is a little costly, but with a variety of foods to choose from, a nice lunch at the school isn't so bad. also, with the downtown area so close, a person can walk to one of the many restaurants on sherman avenue. from hamburger stands to italian food, the choices are endless!
Dorm Life i cannot speak for the dorms because i have not been in them before.
Academic Rigor with a wide variety of classes, one could easily pick out the classes appropriate to their current level of education. of course, harder classes are going to require more energy, but the amount of knowledge that one will gain will make up for the energy lost.
Tips for prospective students working hard is the key to graduating from this school. just like anything in life it isn't easy, but the result is worth it.
In three sentences north idaho college is a great school that encourages students to work hard and accomplish their goals. the teachers are enthusiastic and creative in helping their students progress. north idaho college is truly a great place for a person to start their college education.

Categories Comments What to do for fun coeur d'alene is a fairly diverse area, and nic itself has lots of options that you can do for fun. if you are interested in government the school has the student government, or lots of events are help for the students such as dances, superbowl party, special events, etc.. there is also campus ministries, or volunteer programs to join. around town you can find bowling alleys, movie theaters, amusement parks, etc... the college has excellent intramural spots such as volleyball, basketball, softball, dodgeball, paintball, etc.. along with whatever else you can find to do.
Food and Dining i also do not eat at the dining hall but have heard good reports.
Dorm Life i do not live in the dorm, i rent a room in the city. it is good arrangement as nic has slightly limited dorm space.
Academic Rigor the academic curriculum is solid, challenging coursework testing each individual to put each students best mind forward. the teachers are usually willing to help you as needed but you must make an effort to dedicate yourself to the work and talk to them.
Tips for prospective students as with any other college, start early. classes can go very fast and the longer you wait the more you will be limited and may not get into the class that you need or the proper time. also if you are seeking financial aid same story just like any other college. other than that enjoy the great setting of beautiful coeur d'alene, id and study hard.
In three sentences coeur d'alene is a great city for a college, and the campus is situated in an excellent part of town with a beach and a bit separated from the main city. north idaho college is a relatively small campus with lots of opportunities to connect with new people and new academics. the academics is a little impersonal unless your from larger places i imagine it would seem very personal where the professors do make an effort to make you a name and not a number, overall nic in my opinion is an above average college in a great setting.

In three sentences It is a cheaper school with a convenient and beautiful location. The free tutoring is great, the variety of classes and times is nice and there are plenty of activities and events. However, the advisers aren't that great, getting started at NIC is somewhat confusing and dealing with anyone in the specialty offices, such as financial aid, student accounts, etc, is a headache.
