Great for these types of students

Dual-Enrolling students, students from North Idaho, students who enjoy outdoor activities or beautiful scenery, incoming freshman who are looking for an easy transition between high school and other Idaho schools

    Tips for prospective students

Just make sure you go to your classes and keep an open mind. They don't tolerate attitudes. Also, if you're not from the North Idaho area, we can tell. A lot of people tend to be discriminatory towards people that don't live here, so just be wary of that. Also, don't let the winters get to you. The summers are so worth it!

    Bang for the buck

It's great to earn college credits for such a low price, and while still in high school. Also, its in such a great location! The beach is literally just across the street from the campus, and downtown Coeur d' Alene is just a quick walk away. It's in a great spot for being so low-priced

    Am enjoying being here

It's an awesome experience for me, as a high schooler, to be able to attend a college and get the feel for the college. It's an easy way to get some of the experience that I'll have in a few years. Also, the teachers are all great and don't treat the vast numbers of high schoolers as high school students, but rather as actual college students.

    Am learning a lot

I am a high school student dual-enrolling at NIC, and its been a fine experience. I have learned most from my elective classes rather than the core classes. In my history class, for example, I haven't learned much. However, I have learned A LOT from my psychology and communications classes. It depends a lot on your attitude towards the class.

Great for these types of students

All types of students can come here. The students around campus are very open minded and interested in all sorts of cultures, games, music, activities etc that it won't be hard to make new friends.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be scared. It's an environment that you can set to the pace that you want to go. If you wanna speed right to your degree and think you can handle the challenge then North Idaho College is perfect. If you want to lay back and take time to get your degree then North Idaho College is perfect.

    Bang for the buck

There is the movies close by, the lake, downtown shopping malls, parks, fairs, and all sorts of things that take place close to North Idaho College. Definitely worth it. NIC is close to just about everything and the campus isn't too big so walking to your destination won't take long.

    Will enjoy being here

I love the scenery and the close proximity to the lake for a nice, quiet study session.

    Academic Rigor

I learned a lot already as a dual enrolled student and now as a full time current student. So many degrees to choose from and many choices for electives. The teachers here are amazing and most are willing to work with you one on one or help set up tutoring which is FREE.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for anyone living in the area, especially if you need to hold a job or take care of things outside of your college education. It is good to get started if your coming straight out of high school, but it is especially good for anyone in the workforce or anyone who has family they need to care for.

    Tips for prospective students

If you care about your classes you can find the help you need to succeed. The tutoring center as some really good resources no matter how old you are or what your academic background is. The good news is, if you do well in a class, the college may hire you to be a tutor as well!:-) You will get the education you need if you go with a good attitude, wanting to learn.

    Bang for the buck

As a North Idaho resident, this is your best option if your looking for inexpensive and flexible. When I was in high school I really didn't want to go to NIC because it seemed to be less prestigious then other schools, however, they have good programs and don't charge much...housing in the area is affordable as well. All in all, it's a very good bang for your buck.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the small town atmosphere and seeing people that I know each time I walk on campus. The learning environment is very good and most of the teachers really want to help you succeed if you are willing to put in an effort.

    Am learning a lot

I have really appreciated NIC especially because it is smaller, so you actually can get to know teachers and get the help that you need. I have gone in to ask teachers to explain a concept to me, and they have been very helpful in answering my inquiries.

Great for these types of students

students looking to earn a 2-year degree (a.a., a.s., a.a.s.). local students who want some secondary education 'under their belt'. students interested in a solid nursing program.

    Tips for prospective students

register early! do not wait until the last minute, or you may not get into the classes you want. there is a waitlist now (as of the fall 2011 semester), but it's better to get in early than squeak in at the last chance. also, if you are planning on applying for financial aid, do so several months before the semester begins. then you will have enough time to gather documents needed, and the college will have time to process it and contact you about further documentation, et cetera. parking is an issue when the semester begins, but a lot of the busyness dies down after awhile. but, there are parking lots up the road, about a 10-15 minute walk, so just come to class early and park there.

    Bang for the buck

the prices may appear differently to people in different financial situations, but this college has a much lower tuition than major universities and you still get the basics you need for associate degrees. in any case, i recommend that you apply for financial aid, even if you don't really need it. i received enough awards in grants to completely pay for my tuition and books. look for discounted sources to by textbooks and materials from instead of the college bookstore. you will save a lot of money! lab manuals are created and printed at the college, though, so you can buy those only at the college bookstore (which is known as the mica peak exchange). do not get student loans! ever! look for scholarships and grants, apply for financial aid, or ask relatives for college money, but do not get loans to pay for college! i know several people who have worked hard their entire adult lives to pay back the loans they had for school. if you can't find a means to pay for it without a loan, then don't go to college. period. :) it's for you're own good and the good of your family.

    Am enjoying being here

This campus is right on the Coeur 'D Alene Lake, and the scenery is outstanding. North Idaho College has a great atmosphere (I mean both the air and the people). The staff is so helpful,

    Academic Rigor

that pretty much sums it up right there: i am learning a lot!

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is unparalleled. Their presence is well known and well reflected at N.I.C.

    Clubs and Activities

The athletic presence at North Idaho College is quite amazing for being a smaller campus. Not to mention all the other clubs represented at N.I.C. as well.

Great for these types of students

Any student interested in a well rounded community college with a very personable presence would do well here.

    Bang for the buck

With cost of living relatively low and academic achievements extraordinarily high I would absolutely recommend this school for anyone on a budget or monetary constraint.

    What to do for fun

You can literally see Lake Coeur d' Alene from several class rooms and most of the campus. During spring, summer and early fall classes you can enjoy a relaxing break between classes on the beach or in the water.

    Food and Dining

N.I.C. has a wonderful cafeteria available to students and staff. They have a wide variety that caters to anyones taste or preferences.

    Dorm Life

With a new housing unit recently constructed at the heart of campus there is no part of the school that cannot be reached within a three minute walk. Door resident assistants are helpful and friendly as well.

    Academic Rigor

While North Idaho College doesn't have the upper level classes that a university may still prepare to be challenged academically. In such a one on one environment professors often develop a personal relationship with students that encourage nothing but excellent work.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to receive outcomes directly proportional to the effort you put into your education.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is an exemplary college. N.I.C. is located in beautiful Coeur d' Alene and is well maintained. The education you can receive is amongst the ranking of popular universities.

    Campus Safety

The campus is highly safe. Security is driving around constantly. The dorms are impossible to get into unless you know somebody who lives there.

    Bang for the buck

For the money you put into the school which is not bad at all. You do get a high quality education for a little price. North Idaho College teaches their students like any other college would.

    What to do for fun

The lake is right next to the school for those who take summer classes. In the winter there are so many places around that you can walk to and stay warm and drink coffee or hot cocoa.

    Tips for prospective students

Mostly any tips I can give is get everything done that needs to be done before school starts. Stay in class and study what they tell you to study. Don't slack off in any classes for any reason. Stay focused, and be ready to learn quickly and proficiently.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is a great school. North Idaho college spends so much time trying to teach the students the right things other than letting students slack. This college is one of the most helpful schools in Idaho state today.

    What to do for fun

Since NIC is located on the Coeur d'Alene Lake, in the fall and spring, the beach is definitely a popular place as well as kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and boating. In the winter, the ski resorts are as short as 30 minutes away to everyone hits the slopes when the snow hits!

    Food and Dining

The food definitely isn't that good home cooked meal that mom used to make but it's tolerable. There are different entrees every evening as well as your regular menu of cheeseburgers, fries, grilled cheese, etc.

    Dorm Life

I am living in the dorms and there is always something going on for you to be involved with. Scavenger hunts, movies, Minute-to-win-it games, are only a fraction of the things that have gone since the beginning of school and we're only half way through!! Plus the people living in the dorms are open to meet you and want to hang out! You never get bored.

    Academic Rigor

The classes, for me, aren't to bad. They're tough but definitely manageable. Plus the teachers are always open to help you if you don't understand or need more time with the material you're covering.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're thinking about applying, do it quick!! Classes fill up quickly so if you want a place where you will feel welcome and has tons of things to do, hurry and apply!

    In three sentences

North Idaho is a great place to go to college to figure out what you want to do if you don't already know, or to just knock out those core classes. This place has everything!! It's a beautiful place as well as the people here are so nice and welcoming.

    Greek Life

    No Greek Life

    Clubs and Activities

We have over 23 active clubs on campus, which diverse from Gay-Straight alliance to Cardinal Dancers, anyone is welcome to start a club and can be funded for its functions.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus has a program called cardinal connections, which connects the community and students with educational workshops and speckers. Also in the summer hundreds of artists (visual, performing, etc ) some together to display and sell their talent over a weekend, called Art on the Green.

    Food and Dining

food and Dining has grown much. The market offers a welll diverse oppurtunities of asian, american, italian and salads for students. however some of the food has unhealthy ingredients and most people see it as over priced.

    Dorm Life

Dorms have a negative enviornment lots of drinking and drugs and have resulted in multiple problems with police and the school codes of conduct.

    Academic Rigor

I feel that the academics can be more rigorous, so that their classes can compete more with transfer institutions, however I do think the college has enough rigor to give the students the information they need to be well rounded and educated.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest for any prospective studentto go to the campus and take a tour to get familiar with campus and see every thing they have for students to get involved in and really grow as an individual.

    Campus Safety

with a little bit of construction going on at the moment, safety is a must. with the work that north idaho college puts in to keep its students safe, the construction is just an inconvenience and not a hazard.

Great for these types of students

    What to do for fun

coeur d'alene is a fairly diverse area, and nic itself has lots of options that you can do for fun. if you are interested in government the school has the student government, or lots of events are help for the students such as dances, superbowl party, special events, etc.. there is also campus ministries, or volunteer programs to join. around town you can find bowling alleys, movie theaters, amusement parks, etc... the college has excellent intramural spots such as volleyball, basketball, softball, dodgeball, paintball, etc.. along with whatever else you can find to do.

    Food and Dining

i also do not eat at the dining hall but have heard good reports.

    Dorm Life

i do not live in the dorm, i rent a room in the city. it is good arrangement as nic has slightly limited dorm space.

    Academic Rigor

the academic curriculum is solid, challenging coursework testing each individual to put each students best mind forward. the teachers are usually willing to help you as needed but you must make an effort to dedicate yourself to the work and talk to them.

    Tips for prospective students

as with any other college, start early. classes can go very fast and the longer you wait the more you will be limited and may not get into the class that you need or the proper time. also if you are seeking financial aid same story just like any other college. other than that enjoy the great setting of beautiful coeur d'alene, id and study hard.

    In three sentences

coeur d'alene is a great city for a college, and the campus is situated in an excellent part of town with a beach and a bit separated from the main city. north idaho college is a relatively small campus with lots of opportunities to connect with new people and new academics. the academics is a little impersonal unless your from larger places i imagine it would seem very personal where the professors do make an effort to make you a name and not a number, overall nic in my opinion is an above average college in a great setting.

    Campus Safety

The security of the campus is something that is taken very seriously at NIC. There are emergency call boxes scattered across the campus, but more importantly there's a constant presence of security personnel patrolling around. This is an area that NIC is focused on with the same level as providing the higher education. They are committed to providing a safe learning environment for all their students.

    What to do for fun

For fun, on campus, there are a variety of special interest clubs, literally from chess clubs to hunting. Also, downstairs in the Student Union Building, there is a recreation room set up with pool, video games, TV, etc. But, as I mentioned before, if anyone gets bored or stir crazy spending all their time on campus, the surrounding area is gorgeous with a variety of activities to do and the nightlife is also pretty hopping. But, if that's still not enough, Spokane, WA is only about 35 miles away. As a result, finding something to fill the free time and have fun is only a simple matter of looking for it.

    Food and Dining

The food is actually pretty good and reasonably priced. Even though I've lived locally for awhile, when I'm on campus for my classes, I've swung in there for lunch. Pretty much, everything tastes good and comes out nice and hot, and quite a bit is cooked to order. It's not gourmet cuisine, obviously, but it's still good food.

    Dorm Life

This is an area that I don't know a lot about. I haven't stayed in their dorms (though they do have it available). My only experience about them is they seem to be decent as I can't think of anyone I've talked to, who has used them, complain about them in any way. I do know that about five or so years ago, they completely rebuilt the dorms (my time table may be a little off).

    Academic Rigor

I find the academic difficulty about average. As I mentioned, the college is set up to give every student an opportunity to succeed. Even if a student has difficulty with a course, each student is given access to tutors free (it's dependent on the number of credits). Additionally, instructors seem to go out of their way to make themselves available to their students between office hours and email access to them.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students are encouraged to explore what North Idaho College (NIC) has to offer them. There are a wide range of undergraduate courses available from nursing to culinary to criminal justice associate degree programs, but additionally there are a variety of certification programs available through the college from auto-mechanics to IT support. The surrounding area is forested and the community is welcoming to students in general. So, when a prospective student is having down time between finding out what the college has to offer and how it will exceed their educational needs, they're encouraged to go out and explore the surrounding area too; there's salmon fishing, bald eagle spotting, hiking, skiing, swimming, biking, and a whole lot more.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is a great school with very knowledgeable instructors and a support staff that is dedicated to the success of every student. It is located on the shores of Coeur d'Alene Lake and provides an ambiance of welcoming comfort. Between the college personnel and the surrounding area, students, both returning and new, find a welcoming environment focused on helping every attendee meet and exceed their educational goals.

    Tips for prospective students

NIC takes security to a satisfying level. There are emergency phones placed everywhere on campus as well as maps and broadcasts to let students know where they are. We receive text, email, and overhead alerts in any event where police or other law enforcement need to be involved on campus. We are well informed.

This is probably where NIC lacks a little in comparison to some other schools. While there is involvement it is not as prominent as I've seen in other colleges.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a strong connection between NIC and the Coeur d Alene tribe, the site the college sits on was and is the gathering place. You can view the information and traditions at http://www.nic.edu/history/.

    Bang for the buck

The North Idaho College is quite a bit less expensive to attend than other colleges and many of the classes in comparison are of a much higher standard.

    What to do for fun

Well other than the campus beach with volleyball and various other water sport equipment available for students use, the town resort beach is right next door. The public beach includes basketball courts, various water and air sport opportunities, numerous shops and restaurants, live concerts and events, etc. On campus there are several events that take place...the list goes on.

    Food and Dining

The campus has a few different dining options. There is a cafeteria which has a full salad bar, deli, and quick pre-made options as well as 4 different venues to purchase food from inside. There is a coffee stand centrally located as well as an on campus restaurant run by culinary students and a non-school funded restaurant that is also very close to all classes.

    Dorm Life

I have not utilized the dorm on campus therefore I can't really rate it. I can say that the dorms are located right in the loop of campus so they are only a couple of minutes walk to most any classes.

    Academic Rigor

My experience so far has been very hands on and most of the teachers I've come across utilize a variety of teaching styles to accommodate the many different learning styles. Many of the courses I have taken give me information I am actually able to use outside of the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend any prospective students take a good look at the website and take advantage of a tour of the campus if you can. The OARS program helps to really introduce new students so that they are well informed. There are many tools and resources available to all students at NIC.

Great for these types of students

NIC is great for any type of student. I am a single mother of 3 small children and there are students that are duel-enrolled with high school all the way up to retired people seeking a higher education.

It is a walking area and one-way vehicle road to relax on in between classes.

Great for these types of students

For students that have trouble learning this is a great school. The small class sizes give the student more opportunity to learn and not be distracted.

    Bang for the buck

With NIC it is extremely affordable compared to other colleges and especially to university's. My tuition for each semester is approximately $2,000.

    What to do for fun

I really enjoy the outdoor activities. I am in a rock climbing class that is really enjoyable and helps get you to meet new people. It is a wonderful location right on the lake. In Coeur d' Alene you can go hiking, swimming, snowboarding, and many other things depending on the season.

NIC has great food in the Sub with numerous options. The food in the Sub is not terribly expensive either.

    Academic Rigor

I am a 4.0 student therefore I have to work extremely hard to get the grade that I want. If their grading schedule was a little more lenient then it would be more understandable.

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

    In three sentences

I love the campus for North Idaho College. It couldn't be located in a better place on beautiful Coeur d'Alene lake. The only problem I've had with NIC is that the staff is extremely difficult when it comes to needing help. Most of the professors I have had are amazing, such as Christina Edmundson. Though I can't say that for the office staff. When it comes to needing things for staying enrolled or working for my degree I have never received much help from the office staff. They make it hard to contact them, and when you do talk to them they transfer you off because they don't always know how to help. So as long as you stay on top of your enrollment on a daily basis, you will have no problems with NIC.

    Bang for the buck

North Idaho College is a Junior College and doesn't offer many classes to more advanced levels. But the benefit at NIC is that they have good transfer setups at a couple of other in state universities. For example many of the classes that are taken at NIC are most of the time able to transferred out to the University of Idaho. That saves money and the hassle of going through the university for the first couple of years. But when you are ready to transfer, it easily transfers.

    What to do for fun

NIC offers different programs for fun, or as my friends and I call them, 'fun classes'. North Idaho college offers outdoor classes such as fly fishing, kayaking, and mountain biking. Yet they also offer sports based classes such as Kempo karate, basket ball, and golf. NIC has a wide range of fun classes to keep that balance between mind and body. Besides the classes at the collage, Coeur d'Alene has many different activities to do as well. Activities such as snowboarding, hunting, and hiking. The Panhandle region is also known for having one of the best mountain biking in the north western United States.

    Food and Dining

In general the campus food is good. It's not mom's cooking by any means. But the selection is good and price is reasonable for what it is. The Coeur d'Alene area is also has a good selection of food in the area. From your hole in the wall Taco shops to more fancy steak houses, the selection is pretty diverse.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorms therefor my opinion of what it is like is limited and unreliable. But from what I see, the campus is clean and the dorms are taken care of, in the sense that they are clean and mostly pretty quiet.

    Academic Rigor

Life on the campus is almost always lively. The campus is full of different events, and many of the students are active in them in one way or another.

    Tips for prospective students

To a prospective student, I would say that NIC is a great place to start your college. The tuition is reasonable and the wide diversity of the students make it a place for just about everyone of any age and ethnicity. A tip form me would be to be careful during the winter months . There are days where the school is closed for the day and being a where of the news does help to save you an unnecessary trip to school.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is a great starter school. The Campus is comparatively clean and beautifully landscaped. The Coeur d'Alene area is beautiful and is full of many outdoor activities, which are also supported by the college.

Great for these types of students

As far as I can tell, the college is great for: People who want a smaller college People who love nature People who love sports or exercise People who want a quality education People who want something affordable People who need inspiration around them (i.e. the beauty of this campus) People who might be nervous about their first college experience (i.e. the smaller school and friendly people) People who are into the arts

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I have not started at the college yet, so I am unaware of any traditions that go on, but like I've said for the location, you can't get any better than a school on a beach with a boardwalk, glittering lake, rolling mountains, and a beautiful resort.

    Bang for the buck

North Idaho College is one of the most affordable that I've found in Idaho. The teachers and faculty have been so kind and helpful in answering all of my questions. Not only do you get 2 years of education in your preferred major, but you also get to spend that time around fantastic people, and gorgeous scenery.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do at North Idaho College. Because the campus is set right on the lake, there's opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and more. The school offers many different athletic classes. There is a beautiful boardwalk (one of the longest in the northwest) outstretched over the lake that you can walk on. The school is also set close to the hills and mountains, which gives students optimal opportunities for hiking, photography, or just lounging in the sun. There is a beach surrounding the lake as well, so students can tan, swim, and enjoy the sunshine with friends, or find a beautiful place to study. The Coeur d'Alene Resort is right next to the school, which always offers things to do and delicious food to eat. Because the school is downtown, there are also a lot of cute shops and boutiques to visit, cafes, and parks.

    Food and Dining

I have not had any food at the college, however I have eaten at restaurants on campus and they have all been delicious, fun, unique places! They were pretty affordable to, and almost every restaurant is set right on the gorgeous Coeur d'Alene Lake so you can have an inspiring view while you eat and study.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in a dorm, so I have no idea about the quality of dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

I have not started my classes yet, however, I've heard from other students that classes are definitely passable, if you put in the work, just like any other college out there.

    Tips for prospective students

If you start saving up just a few months in advance, you'll find that North Idaho College is relatively affordable and easy to pay for. Take as many AP courses as you can in high school and pass the tests. This helped me skip over quite a few classes as a freshman in college. I wish someone would have told me how important paying for those credits in high school is, because I would've payed for many more AP tests and credits! Participate in activities you love in high school, whether it be athletics or debate, because those interests will make you eligible for so many more scholarships. Finally, apply for scholarships as far in advance as possible so you can have a good idea of how much your tuition will be when starting college.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is set on an absolutely breathtaking campus. The college is moderately sized, with a cozy, yet sophisticated allure. Faculty and staff are extremely supportive, knowledgeable, and friendly.

Be prepared to work and know your material.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is the place to go if you want to get your degree and to come out of college with a good idea of what the real work force is going to be like. The Professors genuinely care about their students and are willing to help if you are struggling. They do everything they can to keep their students safe.

Lovely surroundings, wonderful people, and plenty to do for fun and entertainment.

    What to do for fun

Simply check out the Coeur d'Alene area in Idah.... there are so many possibilities that no one can be unhappy.

    Food and Dining

    Relatively lame.

    Dorm Life

    Unkown...

    Academic Rigor

Although there is no slacking, one must work for the grade they want, the educational staff is fair and loves to get you to think about things in new and interesting ways.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring your swimsuits and lake gear but, prepare to work for your grades. The opportunities abound for learning as well as life enjoyment here in Coeur d'Alene.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is a beautiful, friendly place to earn your degree. The many majors and excellent staff make learning a joy. Anyone who may be lucky enough to come to gorgeous Coeur d'Alene for their education is already a winner.

    Campus Safety

Nothing bad ever happens. I mean, some people robbed an ATM once... seriously, this is a low-drama and safe environment. The security presence is strong, but relaxed because everyone is generally chill.

    Greek Life

This hasn't been the best year for Phi Theta Kappa, but hopefully some fresh blood will get elected into the leadership next year.

    Clubs and Activities

We are awesome for clubs. I'm involved with many and have started my own. I highly recommend checking some of them out.

Great for these types of students

It's pretty well rounded if you're into sports or just trying to get your Associates out of the way. If you're here for the education itself you'll have to be a little more careful picking your instructors, but that's true anywhere!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I'm not sure what's considered unusual. We have a yearly program called Footsteps in which people are welcome to partake in a simulated experience which educates us about real-world problems.

    Bang for the buck

It's relatively cheap, and worth it just for the scenery! Depending on the year there can be a lot of campus extra-curricular activities.

    What to do for fun

The school is right off of a lake, so there options are limitless. Of drinking age? The school is right downtown by all the bars, of which there are many!

    Food and Dining

Expensive and low-grade, in my opinion. There are many near off-campus locations to choose from, however.

    Dorm Life

I'm not living in the dorms but my friends love it.

    Academic Rigor

A lot of professional technical students are just trying to get through school and get it over with, which is fine of course. But if you're looking for like-minded people who are dedicated to excellence, you'll find them also. Getting involved with student government or work study or something like that is the best way to get plugged in and meet people who are passionate about their educational experience.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is like a sub sandwhich, you get out of it what you put into it. There are some incredible teachers, do your research and build your schedule wisely. Looking to invest in yourself and grow? It won't happen by simply attending. But if you put 110% into your studies and are friendly, you'll get infinite returns.

    In three sentences

On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it an average of 7. However, my experience here has without a doubt been a 10+! The area is beautiful, the people are friendly, and the staff is generally passionate and helpful!

I see campus security driving around checking the campus and the students. When my car would start, campus security assisted me and jumpstarted it.

    Greek Life

We don't have a Greek life.

    Everyone.

North Idaho College has a beach.

    Bang for the buck

The clubs that we have on campus are amazing. They encourage students to get to know some of their colleagues and give the satisfaction that the student is not alone.

    What to do for fun

I sign up for events that are sponsored by the college or the clubs. I've gone white water rafting, deaf story night, game night, and much more.

    Food and Dining

Excellent. I'm always excited when I get to eat campus food.

    Dorm Life

As a non-traditional student, I have not experience the dorm life. However, I have seen the insides of the dorm and heard that it's much more bigger than other college dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Excellent. The instructors I have challenge my ability to use the skills I've developed in my everyday life. Instead of just teaching what needs to be taught, I was encouraged to think outside the box.

    Tips for prospective students

    Talk to advisors.

    In three sentences

I have a great experience with North Idaho College. Faculty and staff are very attending and gives out the feeling of welcoming. They took the extra mile to get me oriented when I first started college.

    Campus Safety

It's a small campus with active security officers who know the difference between kids being kids and someone actually endangering themselves and others. The roads and parking lots are frequently plowed and graveled during the winter

    Greek Life

    Haven't encountered any Greeks yet.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a few intermittent clubs and some sports teams.

Great for these types of students

Outdoor-oriented, future transfer, and students in dual enrollment and vocational programs.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus sits on Lake Coeur d'Alene, which is unique. There's also a Fort Sherman memorial on campus that features a used Civil War cannon.

    Bang for the buck

NIC provides a better experience than most community colleges. There are a few lackluster classes, but it's an overall enjoyable experience. Many of the instructors are very experienced in the fields they teach.

    What to do for fun

If you're an outdoors person, CDA is great. And even if you're not, there are plenty of things between CDA and Spokane.

    Food and Dining

The on campus food is mediocre, but there are plenty of amazing local places in the nearby downtown area.

    Dorm Life

There are a few dorms, but Coeur d'Alene is small enough that living off campus is easy.

    Academic Rigor

The core classes are not difficult, but will require effort and intuitive participation to achieve A-level grades

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for a good community college, this is the one. Coeur d'Alene is a great little town and doesn't suffer from the crime rates of Spokane.

    In three sentences

The staff has many devoted and experienced instructors. There isn't much in the areas of school pride and social events. NIC provides a good bang for your buck college experience.

    Campus Safety

There is always campus security patrolling the grounds and keeping people safe.

    Clubs and Activities

Most of the clubs are purely amazing and there is such a great diversity that it would be surprising if there wasn't at least one club that someone would feel comfortable joining.

    What to do for fun

The Student Union Building (SUB) has a basement where there are pool tables, ping pong, and televisions for people to come down and relax. Also, there always seems to be some club doing something to keep people entertained at least once a week.

    Food and Dining

The food is quite superb, the only problem is that it is expensive.

    Academic Rigor

The amount of work for classes varies, but most teachers take into consideration that students are taking more than one class and will give only the amount that seems fit to pass their class and not over do it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to apply for anything way before any deadline because you don't want to be sorry for missing it.

    In three sentences

North Idaho College is a wonderful place to start at when getting down core classes and maybe even some other classes for something you wish to major in. It is cheap and affordable and has the staff there has been helpful in many occasions. Also, since it is such a small college, the student to teacher ratio is pleasing and gives every student a chance to ask for help.
