Categories Comments Great for these types of students if you like to make friends, learning new things, and seeing new thing than NSU is the place to go.
Tips for prospective students work hard and talk to your professor if some thing happen. you never know they might do you a favor or give you a pass for that day depending on you professor or the type of assignment that was given for that day.
Bang for the buck try commuting if you can and don't or have a small meal trade. your bill will be pretty small and the only big bill will be tuition but if you cant it okay because NSU is cheap for being a big school just don't get caught up in buying a lot of there merchandise its really not worth it
Am enjoying being here yes i am there are a lot of thing you can do here. NSU always have some type of event going on nearly everyday and some major event on the week in. most of the event are hosted by the Greeks or volunteering people that help others get that credited for helping others.
Am learning a lot no matter what class you enroll in you are going to learn a lot or at lease something while attending. its all up to you. the one class i have that i didn't like but learn thing that would be helpful to me if and only if i need that help when that day come was university strategies . a class you have to talk if you like it or not, but still a good class even though they don't know what to do most of the time.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Tahlequah, the town where the university is located, doesn't have a mall. There are a few occasional activities going on around campus. You can usually find something to do.
Food and Dining Sudexo is the name of the food company the school uses. I know they have the capability of providing their customers with good food because they catered an honors ceremony I attended and the food was excellent. I'm sad to say that is not the case in the University's cafeteria.
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms for two years. The buildings are completely out of date and in poor condition. There are many repairs that need to be done. They keep saying they're going to tear the buildings down and rebuild, but that is not for another 5 years.
Academic Rigor I'm very pleased with my academic experience at Northeastern State University. They offer more opportunities than a junior college, but not as many as a bigger college. Professors go out of their way to help their students. I have enjoyed every minute of my academic endeavors!
Tips for prospective students Beware of the financial aid office and the school administration. They are extremely unorganized. The financial aid office never has specific answers for your questions, but they expect you to know what's going on. Stay away from the dorm rooms, they are horrible! They are out of date; they smell old and moldy. After living there for two years, I would not recommend them to anyone. They are not worth the money you pay.
In three sentences The academic aspect of this school is wonderful; the teachers are more than willing to help their students. The town the school is located in is not very big. You can usually find something fun to do around campus; events are thrown by the different organizations on campus.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This campus is good for anyone. We even have a Harry Potter reading club. Most of all we are good for students who are ready to open a new book on life and be prepared to start anew. It's college after all. It's the place where everyone gets to start over!
Tips for prospective students If I had a choice to go anywhere else I'd probably make the same choice again. There's nothing like being a riverhawk! The results you achieve from this place are undeniable. Every teacher has something to share with everyone and trust me you won't want to miss out
Bang for the buck Classes are cheap and even if you don't have the available resources to enjoy the full college dream the financial aid staff is always there to help.
Am enjoying being here All throughout high school, the teachers act like college is going to be the hardest thing. Since I've been here all my test scores have increased and I've found I'm more determined to achieve my full potienal. You got to risk it to get the biscuit, or atleast that's what the class of 2010 from Kansas believes
Am learning a lot The teachers here are all really great. Not a single one of them wants to see anyone fail, some even bend the rules a little to keep bad things from happening to good people. In my year here I've learned not only how to be a student but a leader to others, and a great friend.

Categories Comments Campus Safety NSU has it's own police department that monitors campus and surrounding areas 24/7. There are emergency phones placed around the campus and the dorms have several security measures in place. You can also call the campus police and request an escort if you have a night class.
Greek Life There are several sororities and frats on campus. I'm not personally apart of greek life, but they are always doing something around campus.
Clubs and Activities There are numerous clubs and there are constantly more being created. Creating one yourself is an option also! There is always something going on, whether it's campus wide or in the dorms or block parties in downtown.
Great for these types of students Alot of students thrive here at NSU, from non traditional students to the very traditional. It's a small school and a historic town, very relaxing and friendly.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are two pillars on campus both built from bricks from the original historic Cherokee seminary school. It's rumored that if you pass through the pillars, you wont graduate in 4 years! I haven't tested this theory to be on the safe side, but plenty of students bravely pass through to prove it wrong. Also, in freshman orientation, you throw a rock into beta pond to signify letting go of high school and paint a new rock to signify starting over in your new life as a RiverHawk.
Bang for the buck My friends pay 3 to 4 times what I do and usually end up miserable and transferring to NSU anyway!
What to do for fun The campus always has some kind of free event going on from movies, concerts, and ice skating in the winter! Each dorm hold activities in the common areas and there is a gym and 2 pools on campus.
Food and Dining There are 9 different eateries to choose from. The main Cafe is the biggest with it's buffet style.
Dorm Life While the dorms are older, you almost never notice it with their convince and laid back atmosphere.
Academic Rigor The science department is a challenge, but as long as you don't over load yourself, you can make it.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus with a guide, and then explore on your own! Don't be afraid to pop into a department of interest, the professors are all super friendly and eager to help. Join a club and attend all the free events, so much fun to be had!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is very important at NSU. All areas of the campus are well patrolled and well lit for those that are out at night.
Great for these types of students NSU is a great option for people that are coming back to college and have to schedule around kids and work. The variety of class schedule options fit well to many different lifestyles.
Bang for the buck This hometown option gives people in the Tulsa area a great education without having to pay the huge fees associated with the bigger colleges in the state. Additionally, the multiple campuses allow the college to serve an even greater area and keep prices lower.
What to do for fun Activities are constantly planned for the students of NSU. Last week there was a float trip down the Arkansas River that was a huge success.
Food and Dining The on campus food is located conveniently, prices perfectly for students going to school on a budget, and the taste cannot be beat.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms so I really do not know anything about them.
Academic Rigor The classes and NSU are taught by instructors that challenge you but are also focused on your sucess
Tips for prospective students When deciding on what college be sure to think of things like travel times as well as what platform of education you are looking for. Some schools offer more online classes than others do, and that was a big thing for me since I have such a hectic schedule.
In three sentences Northeastern State University is an amazing college that provides a variety of options for people going back to school like I am. Categories Comments What to do for fun The university is always putting on events throughout the year. From formal dances to movie nights, scavenger hunts, to the much anticipated marketplace that brings in vendors from across the area at the beginning of school and they give away all kinds of products like Ipods, Books, gift cards, etc. The university knows that our campus is much smaller than other 4 year universities in the state and they want our students to enjoy themselves on campus. The Dorms will also host events like dances, ping pong tournaments, game nights, spa parties, etc.
Food and Dining Food is decent on campus. Sodexo owns and operates 90% of what is on campus. There is one large buffet cafeteria at the University Center. Most everything I have eaten there is good. I've never had any issues. There is a variety of food choices there including a wide selection on their salad bar, a cold sub station, pizza, cheeseburger station. soup, fresh breads, and one main entree station. There is also a dessert bar and a soft serve ice cream machine. 3 Coke fountains and a flavored water fountain as well. There is a starbucks on the 3rd floor that serves deli style sandwiches that are VERY good. On the basement of the UC, is a chic-fil-a, World of Wings (serves hotwings, wraps, burgers, quesadillas) and The Taco Shack. Over in Losier Hall, there is a pizza hut as well.
Dorm Life Dorm life is basic. I never stayed in a dorm on campus however 2 of my closest friends live in the dorms. They started in the freshmen dorms at Losier, which are nice and big and room-y. However, once you are out of your first year on campus, they move you to a much smaller dorm, with very little room for 2 people. There is an option that you can request a private room but it will cost you a few hundred dollars to obtain one. There are also suites and apartments available right on campus that may or may not be covered in the housing allotment with financial aid and they are absolutely stunning but as far as the actual dorms go, nothing really great to write home about.
Academic Rigor I feel as though the academic rigor for Northeastern State is balanced across the board. The teaching staff cares genuinely about its students and less about their paychecks. They are truly dedicated professors who care about the achievement of their students. I have never met a professor who didn't take time out of their busy schedules to help a student. What is even better is that there are professors who might not even be teaching you and if you have a question, they will be the first ones to help you. I really love how the staff at NSU has always been so supportive and so enthusiastic about a college education.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students need not to worry about anything. The staff at Northeastern State are wonderful in helping students get everything they need or desire for the education. The best way to find out more about the school is to take a tour. The tours on campus will take you completely around the school, from dorms to cafeterias and from labs to lectures. They truly know how to make you feel like you're already a part of the community even if you're just paying a visit. There are plenty of groups and community activities to keep students engaged outside of class time as well. Our campus may be smaller than traditional 4 year universities, but this leads to a more one on one approach and learning environments are more intimate with your fellow class mates and staff.
In three sentences Northeastern State University is a great place for community learning. Northeastern State University is nestled in beautiful Tahlequah Oklahoma, which makes for a lovely setting for studying and making life long memories. The community atmosphere at Northeastern State makes every student feel as though they are part of the university.

Tips for prospective students The number one thing I will suggest is go to class! You won't be successful if you have no motivation. College may seem daunting at first, but you'll start to develop a comfortable routine within the first few weeks.
In three sentences I really enjoy Northeastern State University so far. I have learned a lot. It is a lot of hard work, but this school is a great fit.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are always on patrol. They are very strict about drugs and alcohol on campus. They are nice and easy to get along with as long as you respect them.

Food and Dining The food on and off campus are cheap and pretty good. They offer many places on campus that you can use your meal plan on to buy it so you do not spend your own money. If you do not want to eat on campus there are many restaurants off campus which are also decent and fairly priced.
Dorm Life The dorms are small and lack privacy but as long as you do not mind being around other people, it is fine. The community bathrooms are the worst part of the dorms even though they are cleaned every morning. NSU also offers a private room for those of you not wanting to share a room.

Greek Life They are very competitive. Each one wants to be the best on campus, so it keeps life interesting for the students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Supposedly Seminary Hall, our oldest building, is haunted. Every halloween they get a fundraising tour of it's history and their evidence. Every year NSU does the Big Event, which is community service for the town of Tahlequah. Usually the student organization hosts a concert every year which is free to students. They have many dance, singing, and pageant opportunities for students to win scholarships from the organizations or fraternities/sororities.
Bang for the buck NSU is not very expensive at all. It's a good choice for a division II school comparing price to the education you're getting.
What to do for fun The river is nearby, so the students go out there to socialize and have fun by floating, canoeing, or just hanging out. There's a movie theater, bowling alley, skating rink, some shopping stores, and Tulsa is just an hour away. If you get bored with the food choices in town, Muskogee is 20 minutes up the road as well.
Food and Dining The food is decent in the caf, and if you don't like what they're having, they have 5 other choices of fast food that you can choose from including 2 deli/sandwich places. and one has a Starbucks.
Dorm Life The dorms stay in a decent condition. They get renovations made every so many years. I've been here 4 years and they have renovated almost every building at least once.
Academic Rigor Most teachers here got their degree from Division 1 schools. Every now and then, there's a teacher who is a NSU alumni.
Tips for prospective students Talk around, find the best teachers for you. Get to know your professors, they are more likely to help the familiar faces. And get involved in a student organization, it's so rewarding.
In three sentences It's an average sized beautiful, friendly campus. The motto here is Gather Here, Go Far and the teaching staff does an outstanding job of fulfilling that motto. The teachers are very passionate about their courses, and allow each student to become a well-rounded, educated adult.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The cafeteria is very hit or miss. They have an actual chef on staff, but on days that they are not working, the food is pretty awful. However, NSU offers several other on campus dining options, including a Pizza Hut and Chick-Fil-A.
Dorm Life If you are going to live on campus, make sure you opt in for the renter's insurance. Some of the dorms are prone to leaking, especially South Leoser, which is traditionally freshmen.
Academic Rigor Some programs are more difficult than others obviously, with students usually having the toughest times in the science department. My degree plan was a part of the liberal arts field, which has an excellent faculty.
Tips for prospective students Be knowledgeable about what you want and need to do to graduate. I often found that I had to be in charge of my own academic advising, because some faculty just didn't have the knowledge.
