I learned how it is to be on your own and how different it is to be away from the people who you used to depend on the most when you were back at home. I learned a lot about how to manage time and money because being a student living on campus can be very expensive and of time's essence. NIU is a great school and has a lot of different majors and minors to choose from. It's decent priced, but the financial aid office can be a little difficult to deal with if you have any problems. As long as you try to do well and don't slack off too much, you should do great.

NIU is a very well-rounded school. I feel certain areas are weaker than they are advertised. Education is suppose to be a large focus for this school, yet many of the teachers are actually grad students trying to achieve their masters.

Northern is a great university if you plan on getting involved and making connections. However, if you plan on just going to classes, you won't like it here as there is not much to do if you are not involved.

Northern Illinois University is an excellent choice for any perspective college student. The Colleges of Business, Education, and Engineering are very well staffed and provide an excellent college experience. The proximity of the city allows for both a small community feel within NIU and the big city life as well.

As a music major, I don't journey outside of the music building much, but the school from what I've seen is a good one. It is cheap and you get a good education for what you pay for. There are a lot of scholarship opportunities to fund your education.

If you like quiet, simple and plain then NIU is the place to be. It is not a party school and there is not much to do. Academic wise its fun.

An absolutely wonderful school. The professors are all knowledgeable on their respective areas of study and are more than willing to go the extra mile for students. The school also has a burgeoning social and extracurricular aspect to it.
