Great for these types of students

Older adults who want to go back to school High school Graduates

    Tips for prospective students

If your fresh out of High School I would recommend starting off here to help you save money before you go to that University you've wanted to go to. Or I would try to do a two step program and go to a community college while being enrolled in a University that also saves money. If you haven't been to school in a long time this campus is filled with diversity and there are multi-aged students, so no worries about that.

    Bang for the buck

This college is a lot cheaper than a University and you get good quality for a less expensive price.

    Am enjoying being here

None of the classes I have taken bore me and the Campus is great! The class rooms are so personal they are small and they help you and other students interact more and get the personal attention you need from an instructor.

    Am learning a lot

All the teachers I have had are great I am learning so much more than I thought. The teachers really are good they help you when you need, very flexible with your schedule and understanding.

Great for these types of students

great for any kind of student. as long as you have the dedication to do your best.

    Tips for prospective students

The campus is growing every year, but its very nice and peaceful. The instructors are very helpful. The college also has small classes for one on one time with the instructor if you need additional help. Not to mention the computer labs that have people who specialize in the subjects you need help in.

    Bang for the buck

Although it is a community college, you are getting what you paid for.

    Am learning a lot

I learned a lot more than I thought I would.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for students on a budget. Northwest Vista also encourages group work, so if you like that then this is definitely for you.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend talking to an advisor before you apply for classes. They can help you to decide on a major, what classes you'll need, and answer any questions you have.

    Bang for the buck

I have definitely saved a lot of money rather than going to a four year college. Going to Northwest Vista is a great way to get a feel for the college experience and finish all your prerequisites.

    Am enjoying being here

Not only is it a quiet, beautiful campus with many resources but it is a great way to meet new people.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the teachers are very friendly and are willing to assist you with anything. They dedicate their time, not only in the classroom but outside as well. I have learned a lot more than I expected to, since it is a community college.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who can't afford a four-year degree or who don't know what they want to do yet. It's a great place to find yourself, and you're always able to transfer.

    Tips for prospective students

Get in and get your classes early so you get the ones you need to take right away. As soon as your able you need to try and get your schedule settled. The school has has to do weird things with the budget lately because of the economy, so there's going to be a lot of competition for the necessary classes with the good teachers. Check RateMyProfessor.com to check how good a teacher's been rated. I personally avoided a run-in with a particularly crummy teacher because of that site! But most of the ones I checked were good. Also, get there early. The people may be great but the parking leaves much to be desired for the time being.

    Bang for the buck

It's a community college, so you'd expect to have to pay less. it's about $1000 a semester before textbooks. But you learn so much from the classes here if you take the right ones that it's totally worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

It is by far one of the most beautiful campuses I have seen in my area. There are lots of trees and grass everywhere, and a lake right in the middle of the most visited buildings. Not only is it nice to walk through, but I've been fortunate enough to have a college career full of interesting and nice teachers who are good at their job. The best part is that you're in a class of twenty to twenty-five people, tops, so you're able to talk to the teacher about anything important before or after classes. And I've personally made a lot of friends with my classmates. You meet all kinds of people here.

    Am learning a lot

No matter what your major is, you get a good liberal education. Liberal referring to the necessary math, english, science, art, and social studies classes you're required to take as your core curriculum. Even if you don't have a major at the beginning you're able to get enough classes so that you know a bit of everything.

Great for these types of students

Anyone looking to save money on their first two years. Anyone who doesn't like a huge campus or large classroom. Anyone who enjoys nature (the campus has a lake, which is amazing!).

    Tips for prospective students

Sign up for your classes as early as possible! They fill up really fast and usually all the good classes are taken.

    Bang for the buck

The courses offered at NVC are definitely less expensive than other 2 year colleges around San Antonio and I have never regretted my decision to attend here.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm very much an introvert, so I don't really enjoy being part of large crowds. However, many people here at NVC, make me feel very welcome and I really enjoy myself during class. I feel like my opinion is appreciated and even considered by professors and students alike.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the professors at Northwest Vista (NVC) are very helpful, they make sure you know the material and are comfortable with the learning speed. My first semester I took math and even though I thoroughly hate the subject, my professor was so encouraging and helpful that by the end of the class I actually started liking it!

    Business Student Organization

Great for these types of students

    Freshmen and undecided majors

    Bang for the buck

It's very affordable especially if you have FASFA and apply for Grants. Although it does get a little pricey for out of district students.

    What to do for fun

There are many programs that are offered outside of just the school requirements. I have seen many concerts advertised and programs for students to be involved in.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is a little pricey and I would suggest to pack lunch especially for a long day of classes. Although they do have vending machines in almost every building and have a Starbucks, so that's nice.

    Academic Rigor

Academically the curriculum is average but the professors are very helpful. They definitely value students and don't underestimate capabilities. The offer many options to get help in certain classes and offer many opportunities to get developed in your profession.

    Tips for prospective students

If you would like to attend make sure you meet with an advisor and stick with them. Prior to attend visit the campus, talk to current students, and make sure to register for classes on time. Classes fill up pretty quick.

    In three sentences

Northwest Vista College staff have definitely been a great help as far as degree planning and customer service. The campus itself is beautiful for a community college setting. The overall diversity of ethnicities and comfortable feel of the college atmosphere is present.

There are areas all over the parking lot where a person can call for security if they need to. There is a police station on campus. Police do patrol the area well. I feel safe when I am there - even after dark. You are never one hundred percent safe anywhere, so it is important to stay alert practice good judgement with people you do not know.

    Food and Dining

There is a diner with a great view. They have a decent variety of drinks and snacks, and the staff are friendly.

The faculty at vista are there to help you in any they can, answer any question they know knowledge about and if they don't, they go looking for the answer, but they are also there to guide you in their teaching. The environment at vista just has a vibe that makes one excited and eager to be there, to be outside or inside, or just learning in the classrooms. NVC is safer than other campuses in the city. Just don't leave anything out where it can be seen.

Great for these types of students

Great for those just out of high school or in their early 20s. It's a young crowd.

    Bang for the buck

NVC is definitely affordable, and not too far out of the way (on the west side).

    What to do for fun

It's a commuter school, but there are organizations you can join.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is decent but small. There is a Starbucks on campus, though. Plenty of vending machines around campus.

    Dorm Life

NVC is a commuter school. Most students are just out of high school or in their early 20s and still live at home.

    Academic Rigor

Classes were interesting. The classes I took were based on participation - show up, make some comments, and you get participation points. I'm sure not all classes are like that, but I like the participation format of my classes.

    Tips for prospective students

I would spend the money and buy a parking permit. There are very few parking spaces for visitors. If you're just out of high school, or are in your early 20s, this is the campus for you.

    In three sentences

The campus was very pretty - buildings surrounding a pond. It was hard to find parking at times, though, especially if you do not have a parking permit. The location was very convenient, on the west side of town, by SeaWorld.

NVC is one of the cheapest schools I have ever attended. However, I am a veteran so perhaps I would not be the best judge on this matter.

    Food and Dining

Food is not good here. It is your typical hotdog, hamburger kinds of foods. Not to mention it is all way overpriced! I suggest going off campus for food because there are a bunch of great places to eat at within 5 miles of the school.

There are not dorms on the campus.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes can be challenging while other classes are a breeze!

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

Safety is always an issue no matter where you are. There are stations throughout the parking areas if you need assistance, but don't take chances. Always have your cell phone available to call if you need help, and whenever possible be sure to walk with a buddy. I recently got pepper spray for my key ring and have it in my hand when I walk to my vehicle - better safe than sorry!

    Clubs and Activities

There are all sorts of clubs and activities to get involved - you just need to find your area of interest and go for it!

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who want to get involved on campus and for students that are just there to get an education. You can make the most out of the experience - this campus lets YOU make the choice.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

This campus offers a large variety of classes as well as academic plans for associate degrees, but best of all the cost is VERY inexpensive. I have compared my tuition and books to my friends taking there basics at a four year college and my cost is 1/4 or less of what they are paying for the same classes. You do the math and if you have the money you can spend it anywhere, or if you are like me and paying for yourself - Northwest Vista is a really smart choice. San Antonio has many activites that are locally based - the biggest would probably be Fiesta. I am sure you can find all kinds of info if you researched Fiesta San Antonio, as well as Folk Life Festival - very much San Antonio's biggest parties!

    Bang for the buck

There are always special deals for almost all attractions - look up your area of interest and check for current coupons or at the San Antonio Visitors Bureau will also have discounts. You can always sign up for Groupons in your town of interest as well as other discount websites to save money on dining as well as attractions.

    What to do for fun

It is San Antonio - a shuttle ride away is Sea World and not too far from campus is Fiesta Texas. We also have the Alamo, the famous Riverwalk, Tower of the Americas, The Historical Missions, the Zoo - and these are just a few of the choices not too far from campus. Oh, we cannot forget that San Antonio offers plenty of choices for shopping experiences around town as well.

    Food and Dining

There is not a large choice on campus, and if you find something you like it is kinda expensive. Not far from campus there are plenty of food choices that are more reasonable - take snacks with you if you have long days on campus.

    Academic Rigor

This will totally depend on your teachers, but do not be afraid to ask for help from your teachers first and if that does not work where are plenty of opportunities for tutoring.

    Tips for prospective students

Set up your class plan in advance and have back up classes in case they get filled. Take early classes as it will help you with parking, and the earlier you start in the day, the sooner you will be done.

    In three sentences

The campus is really pretty, clean, and has easy access from all areas of town (although parking is horrible - like most all colleges). I get a feeling from all the teachers that I have had so far that they really like what they are going - versus some classes you take and the teachers really don't care about you or why you are there. I am very glad that I started my college education at this community college because I believe it is preparing me for a tranfer to a four year college in the near future.

    Campus Safety

Since the campus is so spread out and more outdoors than not you'd expect it to unsafe but nearly every thirty feet of each other our campus has these alert systems to protect its students and staff. Whenever anything happens on campus, the students and staff are first to know the details so we can be safe, and like Northwest Vista, most other colleges and universities are doing this, through email, text, twitter, and facebook.

    What to do for fun

The student activities center in the Cypress Center weekly plans many fun activities along with the multiple recreational groups and teams in Huisache Hall.

    Food and Dining

Aside from vending machines there is only two places on campus to eat a meal, and that is the cafe which serves Starbucks and other baked goods, and the cafeteria that gives students the option of multiple items for breakfast and lunch. Either place I would personally recommend.

    Dorm Life

Since this is a community college there are no on campus housing such as dorms or contracted apartments.

    Academic Rigor

The professors teach exactly the same thing that students would be expected to learn in an expensive university at a portion of the price.

    Tips for prospective students

Expect the best from your college education and you will not be disappointed.

    In three sentences

On a campus surrounded by nature and great company one can always find the peace and quiet needed to get focused on their classwork. While still getting the opportunity to get in inolved in student activities given the need and there are an endless supply of fun and entertaining things to do after classes on the weekends. When juggling the class work load and extracurriculars the campus also has many tutors and groups specializing in whatever is needed.

I never had any problems in my two years at NVC. The campus is pretty busy all the time and someone will walk with you out to your car if you just ask.

    Bang for the buck

If you only take your core classes and go full time it is worth it and a great campus for the price.

    Food and Dining

Food is usually really good except the star bucks coffee. They have a lot of space to eat and a really neat Cyber cafe looking over the lake.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms

    Academic Rigor

An easy school, you can raise your GPA here.

    Tips for prospective students

Take only main courses, I was told from my four year school that the community college classes like Spanish, business and Kines classes are tech classes and wont count. The classes are considered almost high school level courses to a four year program.

    In three sentences

NVC I rate as a fair school. The campus is nice, but the adviser's are awful and don't help much at all. In fact I lost 30 hours when I transferred because I was given false information

    Campus Safety

This school does a great job with security. There are posts everywhere on campus to call for help. There is an email sent out to all students to be cautious of recent incidents and automated phone calls are made in case of emergencies.

    Greek Life

I have yet to see any Greek life going on.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of clubs that their is always something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

This school is best for those who don't care for the dorm life and are focused with school. Also those who are more mellow and just want to get back on track with their education without it being to expensive.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The thing that makes this campus unique is its beautiful lake in the middle of campus. It is the main view for any building and it is a great place to just hang out.

    Bang for the buck

The college offers the same classes a big university would for less money. Professors even teach the same classes at the colleges as they do in universities, so there really isn't a difference in education. You get a lot more attention here as well.

    What to do for fun

The college offers a lot of campus activities and clubs to join. Almost every two weeks there is an event going on in the main building. I usually go to movie night offered by the science club.

    Food and Dining

There are two cafes to eat at on campus. They are a bit expensive but some items are reasonable. There is a combo for 5 dollars that includes two slices of pizza and a soft drink. There are a lot of vending machines all over campus though, so there is no need to fret over finding a quick snack.

    Dorm Life

There aren't any dorms on campus but there are apartment complexes nearby. They are quite affordable and since they are close, commuting isn't a problem.

    Academic Rigor

The challenge in every classroom is always different and it also depends on the professor one chooses. By personal experience I've had professors who expect you to practice outside of class to get the material and those who don't. I'd say there is a little of everything here.

    Tips for prospective students

Anyone who is planning to come here I suggest getting all the paperwork and placement tests done early. The earlier you get it done the earlier you can register for the classes you need before they get filled. I'd say take early classes as well to avoid the parking hassle in the afternoon.

    In three sentences

This a great school to go to if you are fresh out of high school or are going back to school after some consideration. It is big enough to feel like a college campus but still small enough to not be overwhelming. Plus the campus is beautiful and mellow.

The safety is okay. You do have officers on campus, but sometimes, like any other place, things happen.

    What to do for fun

Join clubs. They do have some cool clubs at the school. Go to some of their little parties and competitions.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of your financial aid, and business information. If you don't, they will not always tell you. Also, before you register go to RateMyProfessor.Com to find good professor. You don't want to be stuck with bad ones.

    In three sentences

The school is decent, and has great teachers. The parking is ridiculous, but suppose to be getting parking garage. Sometimes, It can take forever to get them to fix certain problems.

I'm not sure that there are any particularly unusual traditions on campus. We do have a small lake on campus, though.

Good education that will save you tons of money.

    What to do for fun

There is the rec center and gym and it seems that every week there is an interesting activity on campus.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has pretty good food at decent prices, I don't think there are meal plans or anything like that.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I doubt that it is the most difficult out there, but is moderate for community college.

    Tips for prospective students

Know what you want to do so that you don't waste time or money on classes that you don't need to take.

    In three sentences

Many people say that community college is a waste of time or exactly like high school. Northwest Vista College is nothing like that, while the classes are small, it allows for better one on one time with the teachers to ensure success. The classes are much more difficult than high school and their degrees are accepted by most colleges in Texas for transfer programs.

A lot of safety patrol officers.

Great for these types of students

Students who like to run or just take long walks will enjoy the nature trails and big open campus to run on. Photography students will enjoy the nice scenery to take pictures of.

    Bang for the buck

The scenery at the school, like the lake, is awesome.

    What to do for fun

Occasional fun activities like a rock climbing wall and the nature trails are nice to walk on as well.

The food is fine, but not the best. The prices of the food can be less expensive; but overall it's good.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at Northwest Vista College.

    Academic Rigor

Great professors, great classrooms, and great tutors and labs to help you when you are struggling.

    Tips for prospective students

Future students need to know that in order to get the classes and professors you want that you must apply for classes as soon as you are able to. Also it would be smart to check out your professors at ratemyprofessor.com. And never skip class unless you absolutely cannot make it, most classes have a lot of information to cover in one class period and you won't be able to catch up unless you have an awesome professor who is willing to let you turn in late work.

    In three sentences

Northwest Vista College is a very nice college with great professors. All of the student help centers are very informative and do a great job at answering all of your questions. The writing and math labs are great and the student tutors know exactly what they are doing and very helpful.

The officers are always patrolling the parking lot, and on campus. There are never any reports of stolen or harassment issues on this campus. I would say this campus is one of the safest in the Texas area.

    Greek Life

    There is none.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a variety of clubs to join. There are clubs varying from hiking to Latin club. There are dance, drama, and even running clubs. I'm sure there is something you would like to join at this school.

Great for these types of students

I would say those who are fresh out of high school should go here. The advisers and staff are so helpful for new students. They aren't rude and want to help students!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are many flower gardens throughout the whole campus. That's why the campus looks beautiful. Walking through the campus is a pleasure.

    Bang for the buck

Like I said before, the alamo college school is way more cheaper, than applying for a 4 year college. I would recommend coming here first to finish your basics then transfer to a 4 year university.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun on campus. The rec center has basketball, soccer, pool, even swimming. There is a gym for anyone to use, and many clubs you can sign up for.

    Food and Dining

The cafe food is always fresh, and they provide healthy options as well. There are vending machines throughout the whole campus, and even a starbucks cafe connected to the library.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on campus.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor at this school is excellent. The academic plan is very accurate, and like I said this school is excellent in terms of communicating with students.

    Tips for prospective students

Honestly, apply here once out of high school. The tuition is low and once you get your basics done, you can apply anywhere else. This is a good school to start your basics, and complete your associates.

    In three sentences

The school is excellent in terms of helping there students and the office assistant everyone. The teachers are so helpful and the class is smaller, so you can ask questions and truly understand the subject. The campus looks beautiful, and everyone is really friendly.

    Campus Safety

There is a small police station next to the campus allowing for a quick response to danger. This includes ticketing those foolish enough to toss lit cigarettes into the dry brush during droughts.

    Clubs and Activities

Northwest Vista often has special events with the plan to help students pick majors or find careers/internships outside of life at college.

    Bang for the buck

I believe my college life at Northwest Vista was generally worth it. I entered not knowing what I wanted to do but was able to realize that I wanted to become an accountant during my tenure there.

    What to do for fun

There used to be a game room but problems with students have turned it more into an empty study hall. However, this room doubles as a weight room allowing students to use the equipment for healthy exercise.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is very good. They serve breakfast and lunch but have only one facility.

    Dorm Life

Northwest Vista does not appear to have dormitories.

    Academic Rigor

All except for one of my classes had great teachers. My Business Calculus class actually had to change teachers after 8 weeks because the teacher was not actually teaching the class and we had only one grade during that entire time period. After he was replaced, the class became very memorable with the second teacher teaching my class about applying business calculus to real life situations.

    Tips for prospective students

Always get a second opinion from one or two more advisers when working on a degree plan. Money wasted on classes that you don't need will not be refunded, no matter who told you to take them. Check with the university you're planning to attend and gather their input on your current degree plan early on. Always order your documents early, Northwest Vista has had a lot of trouble in the past delivering transcripts, letters of enrollments, etc. Most importantly, make sure you move at your own pace; college is different from high school, you build your own schedule and make it suit your daily life.

    In three sentences

Northwest Vista has had trouble with contacting students from time to time but is generally adequate about updating students on their grades. Advisory and degree planning could use work as I personally know several students who were told to take classes that didn't fit their degree plan and thus wasted their money. However, the courses I have taken have taught me a lot about the world and has helped me determine what I want to do with my life.

Join One of the athletic teams, go for a run for fun, join a number of different clubs, grab a snack and enjoy it at any one of the beautiful locations on campus. Also, swim in the lake there, though, I don't think they allow it anymore.

    Food and Dining

They serve up good hot food daily, though their prices, naturally, are unreasonable.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms yet, but you are close enough to your house. So that is a major plus.

    Academic Rigor

They really do their best, but don't expect the same from the students. Expect yourself to do your best.

    Tips for prospective students

Campus security patrols the school all day and even has their own police station on campus. In addition, all over the campus are panic signals that will shine a flashing blue light as well as contact the campus police of your location in case of an emergency.

Great for these types of students

The campus is a good mixing pot for people who have either just gotten out of high school and need an affordable starting point in their college career, or those have not been in a learning environment in a while and need a school that will help them get back into learning.

Marathons, nature walks, movie screenings, debate screenings, ralleys, and blood drives just to name a few events the school hosts. The student lounge, located inside the Kinesiology building, offers pool, ping pong, a well equipped gym, video games, and even a space dedicated to charging your electrical devices.

    Academic Rigor

Courses at Northwest Vista are manageable. None of the professors dump impossible course loads on their students; even if a student is having trouble keeping up with their assignments, there are plenty of tutors, as well as the professors themselves, that are more than happy to assist you with your work. As long as the student actually takes the time to attempt their assignments, professors will be more than willing to work with the students.

    Tips for prospective students

Everyone says register early, this counts triple for a community college as popular as Northwest Vista. The school allows students with more credit hours to enroll earlier, so as soon as you have the opportunity to apply to a class jump on it. Me and many other students have stayed up until midnight just to have the best chance saving a seat in our desired classes.

You are expected to turn in all your assignments on time and be responsible. Depending on the classes you take, this takes determination along with time management.

    Tips for prospective students

There are really good places to eat around campus, but as for the food that is actually on campus you are better off brining your own lunch. They have Starbucks and an assortment of beverages, but when looking for a hot meal you may find yourself hungry. Other than the food everything else is pretty good!

    Academic Rigor

Unfortunately Northwest Vista does not have any sort of student housing or dorm life, but the school is in a great up incoming area that is great for any student to live in.

The Courtesy Patrol is always surrounding the campus; and I don't mean it like a hovering type of way, but a patroling-to-keep-it-safe way. They have a number for students to call when they might need assistance. For example, when my car needed to be jumped, I called the Courtesy Patrol and two people came down to help out: one directing traffic out of the way and the other jump-started my car. There are also a good amount of Emergency Call stands so that whenever something dangerous happens, the police who patrol around the campus can assist.

Great for these types of students

It's great for students who are fresh out of highschool, because they can slowly make a transition into the college life. Also for older adults who would like to go back to school.

    Bang for the buck

Considering that Northwest Vista is a community college, the price of tuition isn't too bad, nether or the merchandise, like books. It all just depends on the student and what they're taking there at the campus.

    What to do for fun

They have various of activities to do on campus, like certain clubs that many students find interest in, along with 10k runs, there is a gym, cook outs, and even bowling nights for all students to join in on certain days and many other types of extracurricular activities.

    Food and Dining

They need a bigger cafeteria. The food provided in that tiny little box shaped cafeteria is delicious, and therefore, should be expanded into a larger facility for dinning.

    Dorm Life

I'd prefer that Northwest Vista would have dorms located at the campus, but due to the fact that NVC is a community college, the dorm life doesn't exist. It would be simpler for students and give them that real feel for a true college experience.

    Academic Rigor

Rigor is to academic work what careful practice and nuanced performance is to musical performance, and what intense and committed play is to athletic performance. A course at NVC is treated with details because it is important. The ability to explain on a deeper level for the truth, rather than just formulas or lectures. NVC sets a high bar for the exactitude in all academics.

    Tips for prospective students

Before you attend NVC, take the time out to talk to an adviser to see what specific classes you need to take for your major.

    In three sentences

I can't say that Northwest Vista is the ultimately-beyond-comparable kind of college; because no college is like that. Though what I can say is that at NVC, I know that I am in great hands: with knowledgeable instructors, supportive classmates, and surrounded by the right kind of environment, not too fast, and not too slow. I would rate my school with a gold star.

    Food and Dining

They have a variety a food selections to choose from. Nothing is too pricey for the students and every cook is wecolming and friendly. Even the hours of the cafeteria for it being open are pretty long so when class is done, that is the first place we go to.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a fun experience. If you have never had personal experience from living on your own, then why not start here? There is no monthly payment and you get to meet new people.

    Academic Rigor

It isn't difficult to keep your grades at this campus with all the support from academic advisros and teachers. Get the equipment you need such as books, writing materials, and paper. Just pay attention and don't do work in the last minute because you will regret it.

    Tips for prospective students

Every student that plans to attend this school would feel like it would be an honor. Every student, administrator, teacher, coach, etc. are easy to get along with and will guide you with whatever you need. The only thing is to not get behind and pay attention in class for those good grades.

I have yet to experience the dorm life in a school however, room with someone who is going to work well with you. You don't want to surround yourself with people who are procrastinators. Have study nights, or just sit together to work on assignments helps!

    Academic Rigor

Set a goal out for what you want to accomplish this semester. I typically like to beat my GPA every semester to encourage my academic rigor. Any type of goal in increasing your academics will work!

    Tips for prospective students

Tips would be to just carry around a calender to help you along the way. You don't want to get behind on any classes so this is your best bet.

    In three sentences

If your not ready to experience the university lifestyle of a college this community college is perfect. Its basically moving up an inch from college but your not bombarded with tons of school assignments. Perfect if your not looking to spend tons of money on your first semesters.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes do require effort, but not overly so. The grades usually reflect how much effort you put into them.

    Tips for prospective students

Register for classes early; they fill up quickly. Contact your teachers before classes start to ask for the textbook information; this also lets the teacher know you are serious about succeeding. Students straight out of high school, who wants to get use to college education A person going back to college, after a long time. People who need certain certificates.

    Bang for the buck

Awesome price. I mean the classes you would pay about 2,000 dollars at a four year college for one class, you can pay 1,500 for about six classes.

    What to do for fun

You can go work out, and play some of the video games they have on the campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is not really good there. I would just go to an outside restaurant. There's a McDonalds, Starbucks, Taco Cabana no more than like four to five minutes away.

    Dorm Life

It's a community college, so there's no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It can be challenging, and it also helps with the foundation for other classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get everything done earlier. If you have financial aid, they will mess you over at times. They will wait 8-10 weeks just to look at your paper work, and sometimes you end up without financial aid, and having to come up with the amount. Plus, always look up the professor before you register for their classes. A perfect place is on RateMyProfessor.com. Also, please write down the building and room number once you start the school. It's big for a community college, and has about seven different buildings.

    In three sentences

The school is beautiful campus wise, but some time the professor can be unhelpful. The financial aid office can be a disaster, but they also have some great organization there to help you become better.

    Campus Safety

The campus police are never really around campus because they're either too busy ticketing people in the parking lot, or it even seems like there isn't enough staffing in that department. There were quite a few incidences last semester that made me fear going out to my car alone because of news that was going around campus.

    Bang for the buck

I would definitely say that this school is worth it. The professors are awesome, the classes are much cheaper, and there's so much to do around campus. The Starbucks on campus is even cheaper than a normal Starbucks that you'd go to if you were out somewhere or something like that. The books however... I'd go elsewhere for those as they rack up the prices drastically.

    What to do for fun

The PAWS association puts on quite a few activities throughout the semester... this one time they even had a snow slide and hot cocoa out for all of the students to enjoy! They have various days where there's a taco truck or other things out there on the field as well.

    Food and Dining

The food there is a hit or miss situation. Some days it's pretty good and others not so much. The school does however need to get more seating in the cafe for students and fix the broken microwaves. I would recommend going home for lunch if you have the time or bringing your own food.

    Dorm Life

There isn't a dorm life on campus due to the fact that it's a community college. However, there are quite a few apartment complexes fairly close to campus.

    Academic Rigor

If you don't get your work in on time or do what you're supposed to in class your grade will reflect it for sure. This school doesn't put up with late work, because most of the homework is turned in online and if it doesn't get in on time then the website locks up. Also if you aren't paying attention in class or get to class late you get docked points off of participation and it can be quite a bit of points (depending on the professor).

    Tips for prospective students

Plan accordingly for your books because a majority of the time the bookstore is sold out. If your class is between 9 and 3... good luck finding parking, because you either need to get there around 7:45am or go during the lunch rush to find a parking space. Flex classes are a lot easier than they seem and I enjoyed taking those much more than sitting in the same class all semester, so if there's an opening for one of them I'd take it!

    In three sentences

Northwest Vista College is a decent sized campus, where if you have one class after the other you won't be late to your next class. A majority of the Freshman classes are in one building, which is convenient for those just starting out. There are a variety of things to do there, and if you need help with something don't hesitate to ask someone!

    What to do for fun

Clubs, exercise/game building and schools activities are all great, you just have to find the one that's suited to you.

    Food and Dining

The food is costly and not very tasty, but it's not bad. Stay away from the pizza and the chicken, in fact, try to bring your own food if you can; it would probably be much healthier and definitely less expensive. The coffee is the best part of the dining experience, and Cyber Café has Starbucks.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at Vista as far as I am aware.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging but not impossible. The teachers give on average 2-4 hours of homework depending on the length of the class session and the class time is usually extremely relevant.

    Tips for prospective students

Find out about what's available to you, because there's plenty. Join groups, get acquainted with your leaders, and take advantage of all the opportunities for great friendships and fun experiences. Clubs and organizations are great because they give you support and companionship.

    In three sentences

The culture of Vista is very laid back, which has its pros and cons. It's hard to get helpful information, you really have to know what to ask. At the same time, if you make mistakes it doesn't cost you far too much and you feel so at home with the people there that forgiveness comes easy.

Northwest Vista College is very safe. I personally have never felt threatened and if there were to be a problem there are emergency alert buttons located all over the campus. Also, campus police is easily accessible and the professors stress each student to keep emergency numbers in their phones.

Great for these types of students

Northwest Vista College is great for students on a budget and students of any age. There are people ranging from sixteen years to sixty years old on campus. Dual-Credit is also offered for high school students.

    Bang for the buck

Northwest Vista College is extremely reasonably priced. These prices can't be beat and I honestly feel that I am not losing out in the academic department.

    What to do for fun

There are many extracurricular activities such as religious activities and sport teams.

    Food and Dining

I can honestly say I have no idea about the food since I have not eaten on campus. The only thing I have had the chance to try is the Starbucks. It is very similar to a real Starbucks, however, they do not have as many options.

    Dorm Life

This is a community college, so dorms are not an option here.

    Academic Rigor

Northwest Vista College has improved significantly in what they expect from their students. All of the professors I have had assign a lot of work, mostly reading. I feel as though I have learned a lot already and have learned how to manage my time well.

    Campus Safety

There are lights pretty much everywhere, little booths where you can call for help (or something to that affect, I haven't had to use one), and active police/security at all times of the day (if a little hard to spot sometimes). I've even had them place a notice on my windshield warning me about a book and jacket I had laying in the back making my vehicle a target for theft. If you're a little paranoid, plan on parking close to school buildings, but I haven't heard of anything going on at the campus, or even around it.

    Bang for the buck

As a community college you can't get much better than this. Without factoring in gas, tuition is pretty good, about $1,200 a semester for a full course load (as an in-district, in-state student), books are a little more, but you can find them for cheap (even *cough*free*cough* if you know where to look). Only 66 credit hours will transfer to UTSA, probably a little less with other 4 year universities, but considering that's a little more than halfway to a Bachelor's degree, jump on it. Take some summer classes too, it'll help speed up the journey, but don't burn yourself out. All fun and no play.

    What to do for fun

I'd imagine that there are a great deal of groups and organizations you can join, I certainly see a fair number of people doing things together, from school work to extra curricular activities to just having fun between classes. If I'm honest, I'm just going to school to get the degree and move on, so my experience in this section is extremely limited. That said, don't be afraid to nose around (politely), ask questions, check bulletin boards, that sort of thing, there's something for everyone, and I'd bet money on that.

    Food and Dining

I do not use the school cafeteria, but having walked by and heard friends talk about it, it does the job well enough. Try it for yourself, or take a lunch if you want something to eat, there's lots of room on campus to eat and enjoy the day.

    Dorm Life

I don't even know if this campus has dorms, if it does, I've not used them, and am not in a position to say anything.

    Academic Rigor

I have not found the classes particularly challenging, but then again I that's been true throughout my academic career, so take that with a grain of salt. What I have found is that it is best to study when you need to, and study at least a little bit when you don't think you need to do so, minimum. Pay attention in class, take relevant (but concise) notes, don't pester the teacher, but don't be afraid to ask questions or seek opportunities. Make the most of the education, but don't burn yourself out either.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early, take advantage of emails and ONLINE classes (but don't slack off!), and if you do attend, plan your day ahead so you can get a good parking spot and make it to class on time.

    In three sentences

Excellent school, great for getting general/core classes taken care of without breaking the bank. Teachers have so far been great, understanding of circumstances, and willing to work with you, provided you show interest/put effort into the class. Has a little trouble during peak times with parking and advising, but most schools do as well.

The school over all is good, the prices are cheep and depending on the professor they really do give a lot of touring and extra credit chances. And they do offer a lot of different transfer possibility.

    In three sentences

The academic advising service is really slow, and when they do see you they just want to rush you out. Most of the professors there do care about there students and try to help out whenever they can. The chancellor of the school is a jerk.

    Bang for the buck

Considering how much money an associate's degree would cost at an ordinary university, you'd definitely be getting more bang for your buck here. The courses are worth the money you spend, but the professors make the experience worth much more than what you paid for.
