Great for these types of students

It's a great school for any kind of student. It caters to the ultra-studious, to the laid-back student more keen on extracurricular activity. The atmosphere is comfortable and makes people feel at home and at ease. I would recommend the university to anyone and everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Try not to get caught up so much in the partying scene. It's fine to have a good time, but remember you are paying a lot of money to attend college and you should make the most of your experience. Don't skip classes no matter how tired you are. If you don't show up to class, you won't do well. You absorb more than you think by just going to the class. I've learned this the hard way. Also, when selecting a room, be aware that air conditioned rooms cost $40 more per quarter. It is also cheaper to be in a double than a single. Also, realize that an umbrella and rain boots/snow boots are essential in navigating this puddle-prone campus. Finally, go into it with an open mind about the people you will meet. There will be many people from different backgrounds and upbringings than you and it's a great experience learning about different people and their cultures.

    Bang for the buck

The reason why Ohio University gets three stars for this section is because for a public school, it is a bit more expensive than comparable schools like Ohio State University or the University of Cincinnati would be. I've visited both OSU and UC and the food at both universities exceeds the food at Ohio University. Ohio State University in particular has a good swipe system where students can swipe for just about any kind of food he or she desires. Ohio University is more limited in its food selections and the meal plans are expensive. It also should be noted that a student must live on campus for two years at Ohio University and must have a meal plan during that time.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love being at Ohio University. The school gets a bad reputation for being a party school and I was a bit nervous about that going in, but I have since learned that the school is what you make of it. Sure, it does have a prominent party scene, but it also offers a lot of other extracurricular activities. Some of these activities include Baker movie nights (free movies shown in Baker Center for students), productions/performances/plays (admission is free with student ID), craft nights, dances, sports (Ping recreation center is new and free for students), etc. My favorite part about Ohio University and also one of the main reasons why I decided to attend, is the campus. It is the most beautiful campus I have seen (and trust me, I've visited and seen a lot.) There are many trees, flowers, fields, and animals around campus that make it have a natural and peaceful feel. The squirrel population is enormous and they are extremely friendly. There are also a lot of practice fields, benches and open space where students can gather to play sports, games, tan, read, study, etc.

    Am learning a lot

I learned a lot during my first year at Ohio University. However, most of what I learned came from being outside of class because the classes themselves just serve to introduce and provide overviews of the courses. First year students typically are taking the general education tier requirements and a lot of the information will be similar to what was learned in high school.

Great for these types of students

Ohio University is great for any type of student. There are so many groups, clubs, and other students here, that anyone can find what they are looking for.

    Tips for prospective students

For those of you thinking of coming here to OU here are a few tips: 1. GO TO CLASS. This is probably the most important thing to do because, now that we are on our own, we have many distractions and fun things to do. However, you are here to get an education and the best way to do that is going to class. 2. Study: To do well on test and exams, do your work and study so that you will be prepared. Also by study you will most likely get better grades, making your parents happy and keeping you off academic probation.

    Bang for the buck

Personally I believe Ohio University is expensive, especially for out of state students. From what me and my friends have learned from this past year, OU will try and take as much of your money as possible whenever they have the chance. With this said, OU will give you many opportunities and connections to help further your career. Also you will have a great quality education.

    Am enjoying being here

Ohio University is one of the most beautiful campuses around. There are countless groups, clubs, and other activities that you can get involved in to make you stay here at OU the best four years of your life! Also it is a very safe campus.

    Am learning a lot

Ohio university offers many great opportunities to help you further your education, however, in order to succeed and learn you must be wiling to work hard and study. If you do both of those you will have a great time here at Ohio University

Great for these types of students

Ohio University is a college and campus for all types of students. If you make the most of your experience and yourself, you will love OU!

    Tips for prospective students

Tips I would give for prospective students would be to enjoy yourself and do not be afraid to experience new things. College is about finding yourself, so take advantage of education opportunities as well as extracurricular activities. Have fun but do not skip your classes because whether you believe it or not, even boring lectures are key to being successful in classes. You are there to learn most importantly! Go out and meet new people and join clubs and new activities, you will be amazed at what you can do and who you will meet. Take advantage of free tutoring sessions and the library, they are so extremely helpful!!

    Bang for the buck

Although Ohio University is a bit on the expensive side, I feel it is worth the expenses. The whole atmosphere and community at OU is amazing, some of the buildings and dorms are in need of refurnishing, but all in all, they are nice places to live. The education offered at Ohio University are worth the costs, and the opportunities are endless.

    Am enjoying being here

Ohio University, is indeed different and while the location is a bit far from the craziness of the city, it is such a beautiful and enjoyable place. Yes, OU does tend to have the reputation of being a party school, but there is so much more than that to the school and people. The school offers many free events on campus, that are great ways to meet new people! These events can range from sporting events, to movie nights in Baker Center. There is so much to do at Ohio University, you just have to go out and find it!!

    Am learning a lot

Ohio University is a great academic school and I feel I have learned so much in just a year of attending this university. Although, freshman year is based on tier one classes and usually are only review and basics, they are great refreshers and help in your transition from high school to college. I feel these classes helped me greatly and rose my confidence in being able to excel in college classes. Not only are these classes helpful, but the professors are usually willing to work with you outside of class hours.

Great for these types of students

I believe OU is great for any student, but being a minority student myself, I would recommend it for others. There are millions of programs and so many opportunities just for minorities and we need more on campus!

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip is to take the ACT or SAT as many times until you get the best score you possibly can. Many scholarships are given out, especially for minorities, based on these test scores. So do your best!

    Bang for the buck

Our school is a little more expensive, but it's because we are on quarters rather than semesters. It's seriously worth every penny in my opinion.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being an OU Bobcat, there are so many extracurriculars offered and it is a club for everything, and if its not a club, you can make one! There is hardly a dull moment living here.

    Am learning a lot

I really am learning a lot at Ohio University. In comparison to other schools I would say that we have many more support services here to help students achieve their best.

    Am enjoying being here

It may sound crazy wanting to be at school, but I love OU! Seriously, I once thought I wanted to go to Columbia University because of their amazing Journalism background, but now after I've been at OU for a year and a half, I wouldn't trade it for any other school in the world. No lie. The campus is gorgeous during all seasons. The people are even nice! Everyone I've met has never seemed unfriendly or uninviting. I have a good time and I'm able to focus on my work despite the party school title. The real party happens at Alden, that's our main library. We call it Club Alden jokingly because everybody is always there, getting down to business with their books and its open 24/7 so some people plan to be there all day.

    Am learning a lot

It's way different from high school! I am finally learning what I want to learn. They do have a standard requirement for students in their DARS report which helps students organize their credits and keep track of thier progress towards graduation, but you still get to pick classes that YOU want for YOUR major. Thats the awesome part! So yes, I am learning alot because its what I want to learn and I havent met any teacher that wasn't dedicated to help me if I needed it.

Great for these types of students

OU has something for everyone. A top notch student exercise facility that basketball courts, raquetball courts, yoga, soccer, volleyball and the traditional weight room is great for anyone that wants to use it. The campus is beautiful and has reasonable walks all over campus. The people are great and the classes are, well....classes.

    Tips for prospective students

If you interested in sport management then OU is one of the best places you can be. We have an extensive alumni network that makes it easier to get a job out of college.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who can balance work and play well; can be involved in a lot of different things and get homework done; looking to not just learn, but EXPERIENCE; must like Halloween (it's a REALLY big deal here); enjoy small towns and strong communities; committed to ALWAYS being a Bobcat

    Tips for prospective students

Have fun. Get involved early and wait to weed out the less important clubs/opportunities. Stay posted on all the events OU has, both for fun and academics. Use ALL the resources (Career Center, Supplemental Instruction, Writing Center, Tutoring, Ping Recreation Center, Athletic Events, the list goes on and on...) - they're free, helpful, and lead to more fun.

    Bang for the buck

As an out-of-state student, I'm paying a pretty high tuition. However, I'm a Sport Management student at OU, and OU's program is the first and premier program in its field. Plus, they have a high ranking professional club for the Sport Management students AND a great club for students interested in sports agency. I also really enjoy my sorority, and greek life here is pretty well received. On a more general note, I've heard that, overall, OU has amazing programs that all the administrators and faculty get excited about. Plus, alumni are super-involved, and always looking to extend a helping/guiding hand to fellow Bobcats.

    Am enjoying being here

The combination of professor enthusiasm, social life, and laid-back atmosphere make this school loved by pretty much everyone. However, the quarter system can be pretty high-tense, and fast-moving. Students rave about the social aspects, the campus, and infinite opportunities OU gives us, but are always ready for a break from class.

    Am learning a lot

Pretty much all of my professors are enthusiastic about their topics. They are always looking to get their students as enthusiastic, so they make sure to keep the ball rolling fairly quickly, moving from topic to topic throughout the quarter. Don't be surprised if professors ask the class what they are most interested in focusing on or what topics they'd be interested in learning that aren't included on the syllabus - it's a common practice. However, you won't learn a lot unless you attend class. I know, it's a bummer.

Great for these types of students

Students who like medium sized campuses, students who like rural settings. People who enjoy wild partying on the weekend. People who enjoy kind, intelligent professors.

    Tips for prospective students

There are TONS of hills. If you're not much of a walker, grab a bike. It rains a lot as well, so bring boots! Be prepared to study, they like exams here.

    Bang for the buck

The only thing I would wish for would be a film major that is available to everybody. Right now the only film major is for the Honors Tutorial College.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love the campus. The people and instructors and staff - everybody - are so lively and happy most days. The rain is a bit of a literal downer some days, but mostly it's fantastic weather. Fall is gorgeous, winter is pristine and spring brings life about in ways that winter couldn't dream of. The party scene is good, if you're into that kind of thing. If you're not much of a partier, (like myself) there's always like minded people and plenty of free shows to see at the various places on Court Street. The only thing I don't like is the lack of film program. It's the only reason I'll be leaving the University and it was a decision that's breaking my heart in two.

    Am learning a lot

I love the classes and professors here. Some of the professors/instructors were particularly helpful to me and I often enjoyed seeing them outside of class, usually strolling about campus. The wide range of classes here also allows me to pursue my various interests, like a drawing class I took Spring Quarter, as well as my tiers and general education requirements.

    Campus Safety

Very safe campus. Anytime there is ever a threat to safety (which isn't often) you immediately get an email, or if it's important, a text.

    Greek Life

Greek life is great here, but not a big deal if you don't join. Everyone gets along with everyone regardless if you're greek or not.

    Clubs and Activities

There seems to be a club for everything you can imagine. One of the first weekends at school there is a huge involvement fair where you can sign up for various clubs/organizations.

Great for these types of students

Anyone can find their place to fit in here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Halloween is the craziest time of the year. Thousands of people come from all over the state to enjoy the biggest Halloween party.

    Bang for the buck

OU's tuition is definitely one of the more pricier in the state. It also gives out very little scholarship money. For a 25 on your act and a 3.0 you only get $500 for the year.

    What to do for fun

There's always a party and you can always find someone who wants to go out. In the spring time, the fests are where everyone is at.

    Food and Dining

Shively is the best, however they did just renovate Nelson so I'm sure it'll be just as good as Shively, if not better. Boyd's food is terrible and so repetitive. Boyd grab n go is good though since you have the option of hot food.

    Dorm Life

A lot of the dorms are older here but just try and get one that at least has air conditioning. I've never had a bad time in the dorms and all my RA's were super laid back.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on what your major is. Business majors have it the easiest, while science majors are always busy with their classes.

    Tips for prospective students

There are so many great parties here that if you miss one it's okay. Remember that you're here for school and that should come first. Join a lot of organizations and clubs, it's a great way to expand your circle of friends.

    In three sentences

It's a beautiful campus and such a blast to be able to live here and go to school here. The party scene is huge here though, so it can be easy to become distracted. I would never want to transfer anywhere else.

Great for these types of students

Every type! I have met every type of student here and continue to make unique friends daily.

    Tips for prospective students

If you like to have fun BUT can keep yourself under control, welcome to Athens! But if you have a hard time focusing and partying gets in the way of your studies, this may not be the place for you.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition cost is what you would expect from a state school. It's not much more expensive than other schools in Ohio that offer far less value in education. If you are coming here for something like journalism, which we are ranked nationally for, the price is definitely worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE Ohio University. The students are nice and the professors are great. Any type of person could find there spot here as everyone is pretty open and happy. Some students enjoy it too much as there are parties and events happening every night. Keep yourself focused, have a good time, and enjoy the beautiful campus.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot at Ohio University! I am a sophomore who recently transferred here and so far I believe this decision was one of the best I ever made. The GenEd courses are not too hard but I have studied a lot and therefore learned a lot. Yes, OU is a party school, but the classes are just as good as the night life.

Great for these types of students

Students who already live in Ohio get a fairly good deal, especially with scholarships (especially public school students--there are several scholarships specifically for graduates of local schools). OU is also very homeschool-friendly. On the whole, it makes a very good choice for students who want solid academics on a moderate price (and a pretty campus to boot!)

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get overwhelmed during your first quarter. The campus is lovely, so take a walk or two. Take advantage of the library. It's very useful. Be mature and responsible--there's plenty of time for goofing off during breaks.

    Bang for the buck

One of the downsides is the fact that, like all universities, OU can be somewhat pricey (especially when it comes to dorms and meal plans!) Still, OU's faculty are usually very high quality. All things considered, it's not a bad deal at all.

    Am enjoying being here

The Athens campus of Ohio University is a very beautiful campus, all things considered; although the winter weather can be somewhat inclement. My professors have been very knowledgeable and willing to help, and are very clear when answering questions. It's a very enjoyable atmosphere.

    Am learning a lot

Although only finished with my first quarter at Ohio University, I've already delved into topics that I initially only had hopes of studying. An example would be that I was very interested in archaeology and mythology, and read much about it throughout high school. One of OU's freshman courses allowed me to revisit my long lost love, and learn a great deal about it in the process!

Great for these types of students

Ohio University is a great school for students looking for a big school, with a small school feeling. Yes, there are over 20,000 students attending OU, but the campus is close-knit and easy to get around. Students looking for a beautiful campus that is accessible and has much to offer should look into OU. OU has everything a college should offer and odds are it's the right choice for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Visit Ohio! You wouldn't read a book without looking at the cover, right? Well, same goes for choosing the right college. Ohio University was the last school I visited before I had to make my final decision and was already set on another school, but had the tour set up already. Instantly I changed my mind the second I stepped foot on to OU's campus. It was home to me. Odds are OU offers your major, so the only thing you need to do is schedule a visit and be sure to ask questions, because the people at OU are there to help you and couldn't be more friendly and open to answering any questions you may have.

    Bang for the buck

Princeton review has rated Ohio University as one of America's colleges with the best financial aid and they couldn't be more wrong. OU offers endless amounts of grants and scholarships, and is more than willing to help students in need.

    Am enjoying being here

To say I am enjoying being here would be putting it mild. I love being here! I came to this school from out-of-state, not knowing anyone, being over nine hours away from home and the security of my family. However, right away I felt the comfort of home. I had to reach out of my comfort zone, meet new people and adjust to living in a new place, a place I am now happy to call my home. The student body at OU is diverse and friendly and the campus has a homey feeling, it's the most beautiful campus I have ever seen, and anyone here will say the same.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much at Ohio University and it's only my first year! The academics at OU are outstanding and my professors are truly in love with the subjects they commit themselves to teaching. My favorite class this quarter was my Spanish 213 class, it was difficult, but I learned a lot and my Spanish had significantly improved, thanks to my dedicated professor and hard work. There are so many classes I want to take and am excited to keep learning new things as the years go by, which I hope isn't too quickly.

Ohio University has a great athletic facility if you are athletic, and their library is extensive. Their campus is beautiful, plus it's eco-friendly. The only thing I didn't like about OU was that their dorm rooms were a little on the smalle side. I still think it's all worth the cost.

Coming from Maryland, it was nice to meet people outside of my county. Everybody from Ohio is so nice! I love meeting new people, and although it is difficult to find other people who were out-of-state, everybody came from a different part of Ohio which meant nobody knew each other in the beginning either. I have met so many new, friendly, and interesting people. There is also so much to do on and off campus! Whether you go to an event at Baker Center, or to Open Mic Night at Donkey Coffee off campus, you're sure to have a great time anywhere you go!

    Am learning a lot

At Ohio University, I have learned so much in all of my classes. I felt that in each one of my classes all of my teachers have been enthusiastic about the course they are teaching, as well as a strong passion for their students to achieve as well. The teachers are always available for extra help during office hours, and I can not tell you a single class where I didn't learn at least SOMETHING. Each class was interesting and each class was a great experience!

    Outgoing, Friendly, Lively, Energetic, Enthusiastic

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be worried about making friends or doing well in classes, it will come easy to you. People are constantly there to help with studying and managing time. You will feel right at home by the end of the first week and you won't want to go home when Winter Break starts.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely have received way more in one year of college than I ever expected, and it was completely worth the money. First of all, Ohio University awards many scholarships to many people, so if you need extra help, you are sure to find it. But going to OU is more than just a school, it's an investment. I have made connections already that may help me find jobs in the future. I know many teachers are willing and happy to help with recommendations for any student that asks. The investment I've made by choosing Ohio University will carry with me for the rest of my life and make finding jobs and careers easier than ever imagined. OU is definitely worth the price in the long run.

    Am enjoying being here

If anyone says they don't enjoy being at OU, they must be from another planet. Ohio University became a second home to me just after my arrival. Not only is the campus beautiful with brick roads, old buildings and tons of rolling hills to please the eye, but the people here are just amazing. Anywhere you go, someone will talk to you, 'just because you go to OU'. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. I don't think any other college really could add up to how fun and friendly OU's campus really is.

    Am learning a lot

I feel like every single day I learn something new at Ohio University. So many useful things that I may need to recall as I continue my education have already stuck in my head due to the amazing teaching skills provided for me at OU. Most people don't sign on for the education factor, but I could understand if they did. I seriously do learn every day I am here and I know the knowledge is going to stick with me forever.

People interested in the green movement - campus wide recycling, farmer's markets, etc... Anyone planning to major in journalism, communications, or film.

    Tips for prospective students

Never worry about the party school title. If drinking isn't your thing, I promise you will find people just like you. The school hosts student events specifically for student who don't want to party. All colleges have students who party and drink. It's your own character that sells you to employers, not college stereotypes.

    Bang for the buck

Though tuition isn't terrible compared to other schools, room and board is expensive. Students are also required to live in dorms for their Freshman and Sophomore years.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Athens. It seems like everyone can find their own niche in this town. As a first year, don't feel intimidated by other people. The majority of students on campus are extremely friendly. The campus is gorgeous and the gym is excellent. I thought by not having a car my first year I would feel stranded, but in reality I was given a chance to really appreciate this small town.

    Am learning a lot

I love Ohio University because there is a huge variety of classes to choose from. If you are motivated to do something with your life, then you know there are professors and advisers that are there to help you. Though there is a large number of students at Ohio, I feel that there is always someone there to help you academically as long as you ask for help.

    Campus Safety

Ohio University is a very safe school. trust me once you get here you'll get the text messages. OU has a balance active police force and campus security that are always monitoring and making sure no ones going to crazy.

    Greek Life

We have a huge greek experience at Ohio University with tons of activities. If you are unsure about rushing we have a lot of support as well to make sure you have a great greek experience.

    Clubs and Activities

Ohio University has almost anything you could want to learn from rock climbing to yoga, and if you don't see your club here then make it!

Great for these types of students

Ohio University is great for all students. Not just because its a great school and blah blah blah but because its big enough that anyone can find there way here. We have a vast assortment of majors in almost all fields and most of them are highly recognized. The campus rests in the most beautiful little city that is gorgeous to look at. The people here are great and fun and because its a community you don't feel like you get lost in a city like most big city universities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As far as traditions go we have them. Far more than you can count. Some of the more well known traditions lie within the party atmosphere. For example we have the biggest halloween celebration in the country and YOU MUST WEAR A COSTUME! Trust me its just more fun that way.

    Bang for the buck

Well as far as money goes Ohio University is one of the more affordable schools in Ohio but also has one of the highest job placement ratings of any school in the country so if you want bang for your buck, there you go!

    What to do for fun

Well there is the obvious partying that Ohio University is known for. Don't worry, many students come here and ask me how to find a party. There everywhere! walk down the street and you'l see thousands of people just like you looking for a party; that is the party! Aside from the normal college activity theres plenty of fun things to do in our little college oasis. We are a mountain town so the temperature almost always stays moderate to hot and we have gigantic state parks with beautiful scenery comparable to any post card, including a beach and Native American carved caves. Ohio University has something for everyone and appeals to all your sensibilities. I have learned and grown as a person simply from being in this environment.

    Food and Dining

Theres nothing like the dorm food. some people don't appreciate it until they leave the dorm and have to make their own food. Personally I loved it! Dorm food is an unlimited supply of all your favorite food, munchies ect. that you can eat whenever! Here, the best place to eat is Shivley. It almost feels like a community around dinner time, thats when you seen everyone on campus trying to get in.

    Dorm Life

Some of the best times you'll ever have are in the dorm. Theres something about being cramped with hundreds of students you don't know having a completely new experience that seems to bring everyone together. Dorms are fun, but be smart RA's are on the prowl! Dorms are most students first independent living space so have fun designing it and making it your own.

    Academic Rigor

OU has a lot of classes. Make sure you enroll in the ones your actually interested in. The way I see it; classes are hard when you don't care because then you don't put in the effort. Restrict yourself to classes that mean something to you personally (not just your parents) who knows maybe you'll find a major.

    Tips for prospective students

Coming here is a lot of fun. Almost too much fun. The reason is we're the number one party school and have a beautiful open campus that will suck anyone in. The only thing I caution you from is understand that while its easy to stay out late make sure you hit the library once a week. Go there and study or read or do homework. It will make all the difference.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is the perfect balance between open-mindedness and work ethic. It creates an atmosphere of fun but through trial and error allows the student to discipline themselves rather than forcing silly or unnecessary rules on the student. It gives the student the opportunities to grow and explore in a safe comfortable environment that prepare them for the working world.

    Bang for the buck

Very expensive, not sure I am going to be able to afford the 4 year education. Loans do not cover everything and not able to work and go to school.

    Food and Dining

You are required your freshman year to purchase a dining plan. Would be a lot more affordable to be able to eat on your own.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorm is required for all freshman and very difficult to try and understand how the housing process works. You pay a deposit then wait to for your turn to pick what type of housing you want.

    Tips for prospective students

Start early your senior year high school with applications.

There is more than enough food at the dining halls. The proximity to uptown is also great for getting food from both local and chain restaurants. Shivley and Jefferson have the best meals.

    Dorm Life

Living on East Green is the best because of it's proximity to the dining halls and the Main Green. The dorms themselves have spacious doubles. The lobby is equipped with a nice TV too.

    Academic Rigor

It's tough, but not that bad. The Honors Tutorial College is demanding, requiring students to keep above a 3.5 GPA. Having good writing skills is essential to succeeding at Ohio University.

I don't think you will find a much safer university. Usually our only run-ins are when someone is walking home drunk at 4 in the morning.

    Clubs and Activities

We are now known as the number one party school in the U.S., and we have the best strip of bars (Court Street), but if you're looking for nightclubs we don't have any.

The Ridges, which used to be a state mental hospital until about the 1990s. Ohio University bought the place, and it isinfamous as one of the most haunted places in the world. It sits on top of a hill overlooking campus, and can be very spooky - a favorite place to visit around Halloween.

    Bang for the buck

Wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

    What to do for fun

There is the bike trail, a scenic route for jogging or biking. There is also Strouds Run, where there is a lake for cooling off and having summer fun. We also have a bowling alley, movie theater, ice-skating rink, shops, and are near to the Hocking Hills (beautiful for hiking).

    Food and Dining

There are four dining halls on campus, which are very nice and all-you-can eat style. There are also great places to eat on Court Street, like the student favorite Chipotle. On East State St, close by the campus, there are more nice restaurants for when students want to go on a nice dinner date.

    Dorm Life

I've never actually lived in the dorms, but I did work for the Housing office. Our dorms are very nice, and are currently being renovated a few buildings at a time. There are activities set up for the dorms so that students can get to know new people.

    Academic Rigor

There are classes for every interest and hobby. They are much more challenging than high school, but with the support from faculty you need to succeed. There are also many tutoring resources available.

    In three sentences

I love Ohio University! It is in a very safe and beautiful location. There is a small-town lifestyle but with plenty to see and do.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Ohio University is known for it's festivals and holiday celebrations. The entire campus comes out and has a great time. Also Ohio University's Football and other sports activities have a huge social structure and are attended by thousands of students.

    Bang for the buck

Ohio University is not a cheap expense, that being said the experience is well worth the price. The education that you will come out with will make you job ready and stalwart in the face of the tough job market.

    What to do for fun

I have been to Ohio University for visiting friends who currently attend their multiple times for up to a week and a half at a time and each time I was pleasantly surprised about the amount of things to do around the campus. The campus itself offers a matinee that shows recent movies for fairly cheap. For example I saw The Green Lantern a month after it's release for free, the films are not always free but they are cheaper then the standard movie ticket cost.

    Food and Dining

The Dining halls at Ohio University have a huge variety of tasty and affordable food for their students. The meal plans at Ohio University also provide flexibility for their students when it comes to eating around the school. I would suggest a flex 14 meal plan to any start student because it offers a good amount of resources for students to use for food in many different ways around the campus.

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

Learn the campus layout fast, everything is in walking distance but the campus is immense. Look at the list of clubs and organizations and find starting points for developing strong social structures. Visit the city of Athens, it's small but has a lot of interesting venues surrounding the campus. Take advantage of the amazing Ping workout center. Look at jobs on campus because they will work with your schedule to find you a job, much easier then finding a local place that is willing to work around your schedule.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved!! It is the best and most important way to meet people. Get out there and join organizations that have similar interests to you. I met some of my best friends through organizations. Take your studies seriously!! You can get by if you party hard every weekend but you will not be reaching your full potential. Keep your priorities straight. You have the opportunity to be extraordinary.

    Bang for the buck

There are a lot of budget cuts going on currently so it's been a little rough lately. A lot of students aren't happy with our current administration because of the kind of things are tuition is used for. In comparison to other schools, however, I think it is worth the bang for the buck. It is cheaper than a private school and if you are in state, it's definitely worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I love living in Athens, OH. It is an amazing community. It is just small enough that you feel as if you are a part of a community - but it is not too small either! There are so many opportunities. There are so many great organizations on campus and there are plenty of ways to meet people. It is also an absolutely beautiful campus as well!! We are surrounded by trees, rivers, parks, woods, and even a beach area at Strouds Run Park.

    Am learning a lot

I have gotten so much out of my classes at Ohio University. The class sizes are perfect. They are not too big or too small. As a freshmen, I had a few large lecture courses but I still felt like an individual student, not just a number. Most of my experiences with the professors has been great. I have meant so many amazing educators who have helped me and influenced me. I have been able to take a wide array of classes and subject matters. I feel like I am getting a well rounded education.

Anyone who is social and likes to get involved. There are so many options for majors that this school is right for everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Just relax and study during the week; too many students get caught up in the social aspects of college and forget what they're really there for! I've seen too many students drop out of college as first year students this year because they don't put in the effort. Work hard during the week and have fun on the weekends!

    Bang for the buck

I love the classes, the accommodations, and the campus.

    Am enjoying being here

With a time-consuming major, it's been hard to find a good group of friends this year. The campus is beautiful and there are so many options! I would definitely enjoy it more if I had more time!

    Am learning a lot

Being a Pre-Medicine student for Biological Sciences is no walk in the park but I love my professors and I've learned a lot so far. I definitely recommend this path if you are up for a challenge!

Students who are willing to enjoy a laid back college lifestyle, while keeping up with school work and still having fun. No matter who you are, what your interested in, or where you come from, Ohio University holds a place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

College is not all about partying and drinking. Just because you want to or are going to Ohio University, does not mean you have to fall pray to peer pressure. Enjoy yourself through your own personal preferences, but always keep up with your school work. Getting your work done and doing well should be your top priority in college, as you are paying for it. In college, you are free to be who you want to be. Study hard, get involved, and you will still have plenty of time to have fun.

    Bang for the buck

Ohio University does cost a lot of money, but when you get to live on the beautiful campus, partake in any organization of your choice, and utilize complexes like Ping (sports and recreation center), the money suddenly seems to be worth it. Housing and meal plans are primarily my only disappointment when it comes to cost. Dorms are small and meal plans are way too large, but always use your swipes! One important thing to remember is that you are paying for your meal plans and you should never let your money simply go to waste.

    Am enjoying being here

I have greatly enjoyed my time at Ohio University. The atmosphere is very laid back and in a beautiful area. Involved in organizations or not, you will meet so many people with so many different cultures, backgrounds, and personalities. Do not be afraid to get involved, even if you are doing it alone. There are endless opportunities to volunteer, get involved in clubs, visit art exhibits, see movies, listen to famous speakers, pick up a new sport or talent, and I could keep going.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a plethora of information in and out of class. Going to lectures and doing is extremely important if you want to do well. Most of first year classes are similar or identical to high school courses, but chances are they will get a lot more in depth on topics. If you do not go to class, you will miss a lot of useful information because the curriculum is fast paced. Ohio University has also allowed me to open my eyes to what is important in my life. I know that I am able to control my life now, therefore I can choose the path I want to take for my future. College is not all about learning and memorizing information, its also about finding yourself.

If you like a diverse atmosphere with a lot of excitement and passion about learning and experiencing life, this is the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit. You want your college to feel like home or you will not enjoy your experience and as a result, you will not enjoy learning. OU has a way of making everyone feel at home.

    Bang for the buck

Although any college is pricey, OU definitely makes their cost worth it. There are plenty of places to get edible food, the rooms are decently sized so you don't feel like you're living in a closet, and the education you get is worth the money. Not to mention, there are many scholarships available to help with the cost.

    Am enjoying being here

This school is a residential campus, meaning you must live in a dorm for your first two years out of high school. The Residential Housing staff is fantastic in creating communities and planning all different types of activities geared at student interest. There is never a dull moment whether you are on Court St, on College Green, or just hanging out in your residence hall lobby.

    Am learning a lot

OU has fantastic professors that truly care about educating you. They will encourage you to question what you have learned, to open your mind, and to learn not only in the classroom, but in all aspects of your life.

Great for these types of students

Ohio University is great for students who have a passion and eagerness to learn and excel. The students that I have encountered are very ambitious and involved in multiple organizations on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise prospective students to not look past this amazing school simply because of its party school reputation. I will admit that I had my concerns about Ohio University, but after completing my first year I could not be happier. Getting involved on campus is a great way to learn, make new friends, boost your resume, and have a lot of fun.

    Bang for the buck

For in-state students, the tuition at Ohio University is very reasonable. There are numerous scholarship opportunities for students who are in need of financial aid. Regardless of the price, OU is an amazing school. The academics are top notch, the campus is gorgeous, and the student body is friendly.

    Am enjoying being here

Ohio University has a picturesque campus. The rolling hills, brick sidewalks and buildings, and the colorful foliage are absolutely breathtaking. During they day, OU's campus is perfect for relaxing outside, walking, running, biking, exploring, and just about any pastime you can think of. OU is known for its night life. As fun as it may be, partying is not for everybody. There are so many activities for students to partake in if they wish to steer clear of the party scene at OU.

    Am learning a lot

OU is a great academic school. In high school I was hardly motivated to try my hardest during classes. However, in college I am a completely different student. Many of my teachers were knowledgeable and interesting which helped to make some of the duller subjects exciting. I am finally getting the opportunity to take classes that are of interest to me. OU also has hundreds of clubs and organizations for students to join. I have found that these clubs and organizations create opportunities for students to learn things that the classroom can not teach them.

Anyone who loves history, beauty and people. Athens is full of history and beauty but the people are the best! If you want to get to know more people, come to OU. If you want more opportunities, come to OU. They have millions! There are so many different clubs and groups and there is always something going on. You will never ever be bored here!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't over-pack. I thought I would need a lot more than I actually did. Don't be afraid to get involved. If you see a sign for something that interests you, just go! Don't worry about going with someone else because you always meet new people. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone is nervous when they first go to college and chances are, they have gone through exactly what you are going through. Be respectful. Everyone's mom has told them the golden rule- do onto others as they do onto you. If you come to college being respectful to other people, their stuff and where you live- it will be a smooth experience.

    Bang for the buck

Of course college is expensive. Its always going to be, and you can't get around it. You have housing, books, meal plans, classes, etc. For housing, OU has different prices for different residential halls, since some are renovated, some are mod style and some are traditional. There are also different pricing for singles, doubles, triples and quads. For books, you need to buy them at local bookstores, but what is nice is that some let you rent books at low cost. Also at the end of quarters OU has a book-exchange site, and a facebook page where students post books they are selling or trading or whatever. Every meal plan is at a different price, depending on which one suites you. When you are registering for classes, the registrar shows you extra costs (if any) that a specific class has. I like OU because even though it is expensive like any other college, you have options, which is why I choose 4 stars.

    Am enjoying being here

I was going to a community college and absolutely hated it. When I transferred to OU, I was amazed. The atmosphere has a homey feeling, is friendly and no, its not all about the partying. There are plenty of people here that are all about learning for their major. Everyone wants to get to know everyone else, so if you come here and you know no one, don't worry, you'll meet so many people your first week, you won't remember names!

    Am learning a lot

Not every teacher is the same, and most have their own teaching style. Some teachers here at not for everyone, but have no fear! If you get stuck in a class where the teacher just sucks at explaining the material or you just are not learning much, OU has so many more ways to learn the material for that specific class. OU provides SI, (supplement instruction) which are students that have taken the class before. The SI's go to every class as you go, and hold classes (usually in the evenings) for a student to ask questions, go over homework, and simply just help! Best part is its free! OU also provides Math Lab's and Chemistry Lab's in Alden Library, which is also free, and who doesn't like free stuff?!

    Tips for prospective students

GO TO CLASS, always!!! Do your work. Study hard and play hard. Have fun and enjoy things, don't let yourself get way too stressed to enjoy being in college! Find something that distresses you...trust me classes get stressful. You may want to pull your hair out sometimes, but it's always worth it in the end! COME TO OU!!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!

    Bang for the buck

Like I said before, if you go to class and do your work you'll definitely get what you deserve. You will get what you pay for if you apply yourself, if not, well then you will get what you deserve and probably fail a class or two. OU has definitely been a life changing experience for me and I would never give this up.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love OU! It definitely has a party scene, but trust me there are always other things to do! Partying is not the only option down here. It's beautiful here, so take a hike around and see what's here! You might be amazed at what you find here. All around, OU is wonderful. It's a nice change from flat Columbus.

    Am learning a lot

GO TO CLASS!! If you go to class and do your work, you'll do great! Of course, there will always be those simple classes that you may get by with not going to every once and a while. But seriously, just go to class and do your work. You are paying for it. Lectures can be kind of long and bored, so take notes. It'll keep you awake and plus then you'll have something to go back over and study for later. It helps to write things out the way you understand them.

Great for these types of students

I think Ohio University is great for everyone, unless you are the type of person who needs to be in a major city. Athens is a little college town- we basically double the population of Athens. It's relatively small, but there are so many people that you don't know that you don't even notice. Nevertheless, there aren't a ton of shopping centers as there would be at a college in a big city. This hasn't been a problem for anyone I know of, though. Come be a bobcat!

    Tips for prospective students

Be open and talk to people! Nearly everyone I've met here have been friendly and very nice. People are generally laid-back and down to earth here. The student population here is very diverse, but this just adds to all the cool people you can meet. Also, make sure you spend your time wisely - don't forget about studying! There are a lot of things that will distract you from your work, so make sure you get that done and you'll find you have a ton of time to spend doing other, fun things.

    Bang for the buck

Ohio University has an average price- a little over $20,000 for tuition, fees, housing, and dining expenses. I don't think this is a bad price at all, considering how much I've learned, the good friends I've met, and all of the wonderful times I have had thus far in my college career, especially when I see how much private schools cost. I honestly would like it to be a little less, but that's only because I'm a broke college student paying my own way through. In the end, after scholarships and loans, the cost is very low for how much I am getting out of my experience at OU.

    Am enjoying being here

I cannot even begin to describe how much I love Ohio University. For one, the campus is absolutely beautiful. There are so many flowers, plants, and trees. There are even two little lakes on campus, one with a waterfall, benches and a path around it. We also have a very scenic bike path that winds all through Athens and into other towns. Even the buildings are pretty, as most are made of brick. On one of the dorm greens there are basketball courts and sand volleyball. In addition, the campus is a good size- it takes only about 10 to 15 minutes to walk from one end of campus to the other. We have what we call uptown, also known as Court Street. It has a variety of little shops, bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants and bars you can go to and spend time with friends. If you get bored of being on campus, there is a state park (Strouds Run) a few minutes driving distance away with hiking trails, grills, and a beach. There are sporting events happening year round as well. If you don't care for sports but still want to workout we have an excellent recreation center called Ping- it even has a two story rock wall! There is always something you can be doing, as long as you try to find out what's going on. I love my school.

    Am learning a lot

How much you learn is directly related to how much you put into it. The professors I have had have been wonderful, with the exception of only a couple (who happened to be in courses not related to my major). As long as you are willing to learn and put in some effort, you will learn and do just as well as you would at any other school.

I'm in the Scripps College of Communication, and it's really great for students that are wanting to get into the production world. The professors know what they're talking about, and we have state-of-the-art technology to produce high-quality projects that will get you noticed.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Right after convocation there is an involvement fair, with every single club and organization represented. Get involved with as much as you can handle. There is an incredible wealth of knowledge you can gain about your major by working with other people in that major, not to mention you will get your name out into the network.

    Bang for the buck

I'm getting a very high-quality education, with very high-quality professors and technology. My only complaint is the price of living on campus, which is a little high, but that's it. In the Scripps College of Communication, you're getting a Bachelor of Sciences, which looks better on a resume than a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Look into OU, but most of all, VISIT THE SCHOOL! This is the main thing that will help you decide that you for sure want to go to OU. Also, apply to other schools as back ups. Even if you know you are going to get into OU just do it to be safe. I applied to 4 other schools and got into all of them, but once I go the acceptance letter from OU that didn't matter to me anymore. But to think back and think what if I didn't get into OU and I didn't apply to other schools really scares me. So make sure you apply to other schools just to be safe.

    Bang for the buck

OU has so much to offer a student! If there is one thing that you don't like about the campus, it's OK because there are about a billion other things that will attract you to this campus. Most of all, you are getting an exceptionally great education for a good amount!

    Will enjoy being here

I have so many friends there already and I can't wait to make more! This is going to be an experience of a lifetime and I can't wait to see all of the amazing things OU has to offer me!

This is such a great learning environment! On top of it, I have some really dedicated roommates this term that have the same goals as me! I feel like the teachers will be there for me whenever I need them, but I also know many students that can help me too!

    Am enjoying being here

The best people in the world go to Ohio University. The time flew by and I found myself dumbfounded when summer arrived. I had made numerous friends, expanded my views on most everything, and had experienced differing cultures firsthand through classmates.

    Am learning a lot

From the moment I stepped on campus my learning began. I learned about Spanish culture because a graduate student (whom I became close friends with) happened to live right next door to me in my dorm (I lived in Boyd freshmen year). The complexity of the classes and the challenge to think outside the box is always present. Ohio University is a genuine place of learning and it literally begins when you first move in.

    - love of academics - love of Greek life - love of the sciences - love of creativity, writing, or journalism - love of exercise and health - love of education for themselves and teaching others - love of media or the arts - love for business, marketing, or management information systems - passion for new experiences - desire for self-development - love of a sense of community - willing to challenge yourself - want to grow as a person and a friend - students who want to live up the college experience

    Tips for prospective students

If you love the college-town atmosphere, this is the school for you. Miami U (of Ohio) claims to have that feel, but a college town has no judgements, no limits, and NO dress code. The academics at this school are extremely strong and if you want to join Greek life, there are a bunch of fraternities and sororities (social, religious, and academic). There are always people willing to help with anything from academics to personal issues to looking for a job or the nearest dining hall. Being in the residence halls for two years, you find your truest and utmost best friends. If you're considering OU, make sure to come visit before you rule this awesome place out.

    Bang for the buck

Trying to not be too cliche, you can't put a price on the OU Experience (yes, I capitalized it). In the classroom, out of the classroom, in between classrooms. It all is a priceless experience where the best years of your life really come into play. I feel that every dime I spend on tuition, and if you're in-state it really isn't that bad, goes towards every moment I create within these four years in Athens. Not once have I second guessed my decision to come here and, I'm not sure if it's something in the water, but if someone bad mouths Ohio University, you will come to stand up for the O-H-I-O.

    Am enjoying being here

With the most wonderful college atmosphere on this side of the Mississippi, Athens is the greatest college town and, being a girl, I always feel extremely safe walking around by myself, even if it is after dark. The best part about being here for me is the extra-curricular activities that I am involved in and how it has helped to shape my college experience. Not only have I built upon my resume for the future, but I have also made life-long friends, many of which I may work with after college.

    Am learning a lot

Going into this school with an open mind, I have come to fall in love with the academia that Ohio University has to offer. WIth its plethora of academic and extra-curricular possibilities, I am learning that there are a billion and one ways to be involved and to keep your options open to new educating experiences. The professors at this school are always there to support you and there are large amounts of opportunities for one-on-one time with your fellow students, professors, and your academic advisor. I have learned more in one year at Ohio University than I ever thought I would in four.

OU is great for any laid back student that wants a down to earth college experience. It is also great for any student that is interested in journalism, Scripp's College of Communications is nationally renowned for it's journalism.

OU is a great school and a better campus. Just make sure to check out the a/c available for your dorm room because it an get awfully hot in the summer time. While university run campus tours are beneficial, try to stay with a friend who goes to the university for a weekend! It is really helpful to get both an administrative perspective on the school as well as a students.

    Bang for the buck

As an out of state student, I am struggling paying for my schooling. Ohio University is extremely expensive for out of state students, however, not completely unreasonable. I personally believe that the hard work I do to earn money is worth my experience at Ohio University.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love the campus and all of the friends I have made. The town of athens has a home-like feeling and is extremely welcoming. Currently, I am on a 6 week winter intercession, and cannot wait to go back!

    Am learning a lot

As a freshman student, I have only completed one quarter of classes. Two of them truly challenged me, while the other two I took were definitely blow off classes and easy. For the most part, I feel accomplished in what I have spent my time on and learned.

Great for these types of students

OU's great for a variety of students. Come and see for yourself if it's a good fit for you! I'm sure you'll love it like I do.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come to OU because of it's reputation as a party school. There is a lot more to do than party. I don't consider OU to be a party school. The events such as the block party and different festivals just add to the uniqueness of OU's atmosphere. OU has the feeling of a small campus. Athens is a smaller town, so be prepared for less of a variety of shopping and recreational opportunities if you're from a large city. Don't let the small town keep you from coming though because it's a gorgeous campus and it's a perfect college town because of the sense of community you feel when you get there. Athens has a lot of unique, locally owned businesses and a really good farmer's market.

    Bang for the buck

OU offers a great education for a good cost.

    Am enjoying being here

OU initially wasn't on the top of my list because I'm from the Athens area. I'm glad I made the choice to go to OU though. It's a great campus and there's a variety of activities to participate in. I've made a lot of great friends and am very happy at OU.

    Am learning a lot

I've just finished my first quarter as a dance major at OU. Already I feel I've grown a lot as a person and as a dancer. The faculty is great. They care about the students and are always available to the students if we need something. The classes are challenging but very fun also.

my major, music performance, has proven to be very rigorous. the classes are fairly difficult and hours of practice are required every day. however, although the teachers have high expectations, their office hours are always very reasonable and can be contacted through e-mail or phone at just about any time.

    Tips for prospective students

    Dorm Life

The dorms themselves are typical old dorms. They may not be the nicest but you're going to have problems if you go to a college as old as OU. They aren't terrible though and the residence halls do a good job of putting events together. This helps you meet new people!

    Greek Life

The Greek life here is not as prominent as I would say other colleges are. The life is here though and is promoted if you are interested in doing so.

    Clubs and Activities

The year is started off with a fair promoting all the clubs and activities here at Ohio University. If you are interested in it they have something for you. The leaders of these clubs want people with the same interest to join and that shows.

Great for these types of students

Ohio University is great for the students who want to get away from home and find out just who they are. Students who want to find a good medium between tedious school work and a fun and exciting social life. The location is good for students who want to be away from a city and can find themselves.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Ohio University has been known for its tradition as being the number 1 party school and has good reason for it. The fests attract a lot of people to Athens while Halloween is known as the largest party going on. There are many other things to do though other than party.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition at Ohio is currently raising, I don't quite agree with that. While the professors are almost exceptional in every way, most lectures are big and don't focus on individuals. I would also like to see the tuition money go towards making newer residency halls.

    What to do for fun

Get involved with some clubs and other organizations. Athens is a small town but there is a lot going on in it that a lot of people do not know about. With a ton of student organizations and an interesting night life, Ohio has everything to offer to keep you having fun.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls are legit here at Ohio compared to other dining halls I have been at elsewhere. They are constantly trying to accommodate to the students needs and find what they want. You have to also look 'uptown' where there are a ton of good restaurants, ranging from mediterranean food to hot dogs at O'betty's.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a good thing for incoming freshman and help you adjust to meeting new people. The friends I met when I first moved in are still some of the most supportive and trusting people I know. The only downside is that other people may not be as cleanly as you want them to be.

    Academic Rigor

Based on your major Ohio University can be a big eye opener in the amount of studying you have to put into your school work. Taking about an hour a day for each class is pretty realistic for any major. The best thing I have found to do is to take the rigorous classes mixed with a few electives.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to school with the mindset to work hard, when you are a full time student attending classes should be like going to work. Success comes with hard work, the grades you want to get are not easy to come by, they require a lot more work than high school. Have fun, getting your priorities straight and making time for fun is essential.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is the place to come if you are looking for a college that has its city based around it. Its a small quaint town with brick roads that has a very tight community in which people help one another. The academics are challenging yet the atmosphere of the city helps you really get an interesting social life with your peers as well.

The campus is one of the most haunted in the country. Students like to visit the Ridges, an old insane asylum just off campus, and tell ghost stories or visit the many cemeteries.

Baker Center often offers free activities, and students get discounts on theater show tickets, etc. The Student Activities Committee also plans a lot of free events for students. There are also a lot of options for nature lovers. Strouds Run State Park, 10 minutes from campus, offers camping, hiking, a beach, and boating.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe, there has never been a time where I didn't. There is a service that you can call, which is on the back of your I.D, they will walk you home if you are alone. Campus police are very good at their jobs as well. But always walk with someone. Even if you are technically walking by yourself, stand in front or behind someone so if something does happen, they will be there.

    Greek Life

Not too prevalent on campus, especially not as much as Miami. There are some, but no one can really tell if the person they are talking to is a member of a sorority or frat house. We all blend in!

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs it is ridiculous. Obviously sports, religious clubs, and multicultural clubs, but there is a Dr. Who club, a Disney club, so many!!!!

Great for these types of students

Laid back. That's it. There aren't too many uptight, super high maintenance girls or guys. Obviously the partiers, but you don't have to be one to survive! I'm not, and I love it here!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Ridges, Halloween Block Party is HUGE!!!!, Dave Rave is like a club of sorts, Court St. in general is a character!

    Bang for the buck

I really love it here! The atmosphere is really calm, and cool. The people are generally really nice, the food is good, classes are good, it is easy to make friends!! Just come!!

    What to do for fun

For fun, hmmm let's see. There are a lot of art programs, all the time. The plays are good, and the Singing Men of Ohio are also really good to hear. There are football games, and hockey games (my favorite!). On court st. there are a lot of food places, and bars. Chipotle is there! Some clothing shops, etc. The Ridges is kind of fun, it is an old insane asylum transformed into offices and a museum that is really nice. It is still creepy though! There are lots of sports and clubs to get involved in, also there are many things going on in the Baker Center, which is the student union.

    Food and Dining

There are 4 dining halls across campus. They are all different in their own way, and each has something better than another. Jeff has a wok and smoothie bar, Nelson has all day breakfast, and awesome donuts, Shively has everything, but they have really good home cookin type food, and a sandwich shop, and Boyd is good if you are on West green, but that is it. East green has 2 of the 4 halls, and they are very easy to get to. You swipe your meals and you can get anything you want! I like it, but i do miss my dad's cooking!

    Dorm Life

I love living in my dorm, I am in Lincoln. Which is a renovated dorm on East green, the fine arts dorm. I think East green dorms are some of the nicest, but it depends on where you live. Rooms also vary, but you get to pick your room if you sign up early enough! I love my roommate, and my room. The only thing i miss, is how big my room used to be, and cooking. I can definitely deal without the fire alarm going off because people do not know how to make popcorn! But I love it, and i think everyone should have the experience!

    Academic Rigor

Since I am a freshman art student, I have a lot of projects due at the same time. So the course load is a lot to handle. I am also taking an English class that really takes time to think about, I'm not kidding, it is decently difficult. Most of the classes are small, unless you are taking like a psychology class or something in a lecture hall. I thought my freshman year was going to be really hard, but it is really not that bad compared to going to class every single day for 7 hours, then doing homework, it is so much better than high school!

    Tips for prospective students

If you come here, which you should, I would advise to try out different classes that you would normally not take during your first year. It is a time to explore and find out who you really want to be, and see if what you thought you wanted to be worked out! Bring a camera too, it is beautiful all year, even in the winter, and I hate winter. Getting to know people outside of your classes and major is also very important, but being in a Learning Community really brings you close to the people that share the same interests as you. Go for it!

    In three sentences

OU is the best, the atmosphere is great! Depending on your major, for I am an art student, the teachers become close with you, and help you on your way. The friends that you live with are also great!

    Food and Dining

Uptown is in easy walking distance and they have at kinds of delicious restaurants. The dining halls are for the most part pretty good. Only complaint is of weekends when most people go home the dining halls only offer concession style food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are old and a lot of the building have community centered living so everyone of the floor shares the same bathrooms. It is not to bad once you get used to it but it can be intimidating at first.

    Academic Rigor

Well that really depends on your major. I am a third year student in the plant biology department and our classes are pretty hard but manigable as long as you stay on top of the work.

    Tips for prospective students

Spread your fun classes out don't take them all at once. You will regret it if you do when you are stuck taking only your major classes your last couple of years. Also, you will hear a lot about all the parties on campus. They are fun but you need to be careful and make sure you don't do anything you shouldn't.

    Campus Safety

Generally, things are safe around campus. There are easily acceptable ways to avoid walking home in the dark if you don't have a friend to walk with you. Though some areas aren't well light, it wouldn't be that bad if you did try to walk home in the dark. Other than that, I've never felt scared or threatened while walking around campus.

    Greek Life

OU has many fraternities and sororities. Some are specifically for people in the same college and others allow anyone to join. There's almost an entire street dedicated solely to houses for some of these organizations. Most organizations are friendly and welcoming to prospective members.

    Clubs and Activities

OU has numerous clubs that you probably wouldn't have thought of before. There are also the standard organizations that many people look for in a college. OU is also very open to new clubs, so you can always find a group of people who like the same things as you.

Great for these types of students

OU is great for anyone willing to learn and willing to meet new people. It's good to get connected with people in your classes and maintain good relations with your professors so that you ensure you always know what's expected of you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Just slightly off campus is a place called The Ridges. Currently, it's an art museum that shows the works of local artists and some famous artists. The museum works directly with the school, providing jobs to art students and and allowing students to set up some of the shows. However, the building used to be a mental hospital and many claim that it's haunted.

    Bang for the buck

Ohio University is not a cheap school to attend, but the money is well spent for the most part. Many great organizations receive the funding the need, the facilities are well maintained, the faculty is awesome, and it's not so expensive that tuition is too hard to pay.

    What to do for fun

OU has all kinds of clubs and organizations that you can get involved with. OU also has a great recreational center with weekly classes and all sorts of other activities you can do. In the surrounding area, there's a great park and beautiful rolling hills. The university almost always has some kind of show going on, whether it's by students or if it's someone brought in for the performing arts series. There's always something going on; you just have to look for it.

    Food and Dining

With two newly renovated dining halls, the food on campus is pretty good. Occasionally, you'll come across some poorly cooked entree or something that just doesn't taste good in general, but the variety and quality of the food is pretty good.

    Dorm Life

I live in a newly renovated dorm, so it's in great condition and is well taken care of. However, some people in my dorm like to stay up late and will occasionally be loud in the hallways after quiet hours. From what I hear, other dorms aren't quite as nice and their locations are terribly inconvenient.

    Academic Rigor

As a music major, my teachers constantly expect me to be getting better and to participate in class. Though a couple of my teachers will except late work within a few days. However, the general education class I'm taking doesn't accept late work and my teacher just flies through information.

    Tips for prospective students

Manage your time effectively. Though the teachers are friendly, slacking off on your work won't win you any favors. Make sure to study and go to class since you are paying thousands of dollars for an education.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is a great school. The teachers care about your grades, the students are friendly, and the facilities are generally in good condition. Even though it's in a small town, there's so many things to do and people to meet that it doesn't feel that way.

Halloween at Ohio University is nationally known as one of the biggest halloween parties in the United States. The population grows by over 5x for that weekend with a huge block party on court street. The city allows bands to play on multiple stages on court street through the night. I highly recommend googleing about it. Everyone participates in a shuffle at some point or another. A shuffle is basically a themed bar crawl where a group of people will go to each bar and typically have that bar's drink or shot that they are known for. Usually the shufflers wear some type of unique/matching outfits to match their theme. You write on the bathroom walls to document your shuffle. It is always entertaining reading the posts while going to the bathroom at the bars. Homecoming is always a fun weekend where kegs and eggs begin at 5-6AM.

    Bang for the buck

Costs are pretty much the same across Ohio except off-campus rent in Athens is a lot more than other college campuses because of supply and demand and the isolated location. There are a lot of unique spending options in athens though such as their Farmers Market held year round to buy fresh meat and produce.

    What to do for fun

The university offers a lot of events, but most students partake their evenings/weekends at house parties or at the bars on Court Street. There are 20 bars that are within walking distance of all of on and off campus living. In the spring time there are fests which are basically huge block parties on different streets each saturday. The fests get pretty rowdy.

    Food and Dining

When I lived in the dorms the dining halls weren't the greatest. We really only had one really nice dining hall and it wasn't open on weekends. Now though, two are newly remodeled and they are going to be remodeling the others too. The food at Baker Center (our student union) is really nice, and there are three on-campus coffee shops spread out across campus. If you don't have time to sit down to eat there are grab-and-go options too that are open more extended hours. There are markets too but they are over-priced you would be better going to an actual grocery store.

    Dorm Life

They have plans to be building 10+ new dorms where current building exist over the next several years so I am sure they will be nicer than the current ones. At Ohio University you have to live in the dorms your first two years of college. You can live in a single up to a quad. The layouts vary and there are three different dorm communities called greens (South, East, & West Green). All are close to classes and dining halls.

    Academic Rigor

I am sure the academic rigor varies by major. I am double majoring in Accounting and Business-Pre Law. The accounting program is very rigorous, but is worth it when it comes to job placement and the CPA exam. Unlike other Ohio schools the accounting program at OU offers/requires the number of accounting courses needed to sit for the CPA exam so you do not have to get a master's degree in order to take the CPA exam.

    Tips for prospective students

Do the best you can in high school (GPA) and on standardized tests so that you can be admitted to the program of your choice upon applying instead of coming in undecided. Plus, the better you do in high school the larger the renewable scholarships you may qualify for. If you know you want to be some type of journalism major or business major this is an excellent school. As with any school, I highly recommend a campus visit to see how you fit.

    In three sentences

This school has great journalism, business, and engineering programs. It is by far the most beautiful campus in Ohio nestled in the foothills of Appalachia. The party-scene here gets pretty crazy and is usually ranked in the top 5 on the Princeton Review's Top Party School List.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is great at OU. You can even call the Safety Patrol if you want them to walk with you at night.

    What to do for fun

Going for a walk, or shopping down Court St. is one of the things us Bobcats like to do for fun, and go to parties.

    Food and Dining

There are four dining halls which are Nelson, Shively, Jefferson (Jeff), and Boyd. The best in my opinion is Shively, and in everyone's opinion on campus, Boyd is the worst and that is located on West Green.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life, I would have to say is pretty amazing. South Green by far is the nicest Green on campus, and the mod styles are nice, because you get that common living area between the rooms which is good for socialization.

    Academic Rigor

Just know that this is still college, and homework still exists. As far as writing papers go, it honestly just depends on what type of teacher you have and what that actual class is. I have some friends that haven't written any papers this quarter yet, but I have written about 4 or 5, but you'll get through it. Other than that the academic rigor is pretty up there but definitely not too much to handle. However, freshman year will most likely be your easiest year, and that goes for any school.

    Tips for prospective students

You have to remember that college is fun, but college gets hard sometimes, and there will be times when you just want to cry because of all the stress. A great thing to have would be good time management skills, and that way you can do what is needed as far as all of your work, and then you have time to have fun. Work hard, play hard.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is honestly one of the best places to go to college in Ohio in my opinion. I was originally going to go to either Ohio State or Mississippi State, but when I came to OU for a visit, I knew at that moment I was going to be a Bobcat. Once you step foot on this campus you will learn to understand why so many people love it here.

    Food and Dining

There are many different places to eat for the size of the campus and most of them are very good.

    Dorm Life

I personally did not live on campus, but the students who do seem to be favored more, they also do better since they have access to everything.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips would be to actually stay ahead and learn time management.

    In three sentences

Overall, I know that I personally could not stand the atmosphere of Ohio University and it just did not fit my personality. I would only recommend Ohio University if you plan to live on or close to campus and you have someone paying your college. Dorm Life

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Halloween is a blast! Everyone will enjoy it. There is music, all of Court Street is blocked off, and everyone walks around in their very unique costumes.

    Bang for the buck

I love this university. I think it's beautiful, and has offered me some great opportunities so far. However, I think they have some serious work they could do on some of the buildings, and they could definitely update their technology and internet access around campus.

    What to do for fun

Fun can be found if you aren't interested in partying. There are comedy nights, concerts, Dave Raves, the bike trail, and hanging out with your friends! There is a sand volley ball court outside of Nelson hall, basketball courts at Ping, sporting events, and at certain times during the day, the hockey rink is open for ice skating!

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good quality here! Shively and Nelson are very up-to-date dining halls and serve pretty good stuff! There are some yummy places to eat on Court Street, but my favorite place is Union Street Diner. Open 24 hours and has delicious food!!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are outdated and old buildings, so if you're looking for some lavish, beautiful, serene mansion, you won't find it here. (Or really in any dorm on any university campus.)

    Academic Rigor

I love my program so far, as a freshman, and I cannot wait to get past all of the general education courses next year and start my professional internship and student teaching.

    Tips for prospective students

Base your opinions of Ohio University on their amazing faculty and staff dedication and the excellence of their programs. Do not let the party school image sway you. The students can put on a good party, but that is a very small part of what the university is all about.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is a beautiful, historical school that has always and will continue to produce excellence. However, I believe that this school could do more for their students. Some of the facilities are much too out-of-date to even function properly, and it makes the school more unappealing to incoming freshman.

There's something for anybody. There are tons and tons of clubs for about any interests someone might have. Intrumural sport leagues are great, I've played a few and had a great time. There are also clubs that range from academic interests, equestrian teams, and knitting clubs. The University sponsors many events as well and the night life has its own reputation!

    Food and Dining

They have also been redoing their dining halls so no matter what you're in the mood for there's probably an option for you. Its not very great quality but you can only expect so much from a cafeteria after all. There are also four different dining halls you can choose to eat from on campus.

    Dorm Life

Everyone gets along so well for the most part, however most of the dorms are pretty old (although the school is in the process of renovating so this rating should go up soon). Also, the wifi isn't very reliable.

    Academic Rigor

My classes are interesting yet challenging at the same time. Most of my places are ones that simply require a great deal of work. In Athens it's almost a rule-if you want good grades put in the work.

    Tips for prospective students

You probably hear all the time how much harder college is than high school and its very easy to dismiss these comments. However, it actually is a lot harder- a lot more enjoyable but also a lot harder! You have to adjust to moving away from home and the stronger academics at the same time so don't take on too much at first, ease yourself in!

    In three sentences

A great community of friends that feel like family. A wonderful learning environment with great academics. An absolutely gorgeous campus that's bound to feel like home.

    Bang for the buck

Ohio University is an amazing deal for the education you get. It is known as Harvard on the Hocking for its stellar academics but comes at a cost that is lower than many other state schools. For the esteem and credibility that comes with an Ohio University education, a better price cannot be found.

    What to do for fun

Ohio University is built around campus life and fun. Along with these, intramural sports are very big here and concerts are held at least once a month.

    Dorm Life

    Campus Safety

It is very safe in Athens, OH. It is the sort of leave your keys in the car sort of town. Once in a while you would hear of a drunk student doing something stupid, but their really was no crime to be heard of.

    Greek Life

    Plenty of fraternities and sororities.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of activities, a really strong Newman society, lots of clubs. I was often in and out of the music school buildings and even the music majors have like 50 different clubs to choose from.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It has been rated the top party school several times. Not my kinda attraction, but, I know many people not interested in that sort of thing that went there and never were bothered by the parties. It is also the 17th most haunted town in America, so the college students have lots of ghost stories to share.

    What to do for fun

Sit on the green, watch the symphony perform, play ultimate Frisbee or Frisbee golf, go swimming, go to a party, or even go stargazing. The campus is hopping with activities.

    Food and Dining

Lots of cool places to eat. if you take a tour, stop and get a burrito at the burrito buggy. You will apply just to have that available to you.

    Academic Rigor

It is pretty easy to apply and get accepted. I have never been a student, but I do know the professors. The professors are knowledgeable and interesting.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have good grades, you will probably be accepted.

I do have to brag a little on campus safety because the OUPD are always out patrolling and we have had a few robberies but were dealt with in a good manor, which was the best for the student's safety

    What to do for fun

Being Athens if you're 21 or over it's fun to go to the bar (on the weekends) and dance/hang with friends. There is also the Ping Center where you can get a workout in, a golf course, tennis courts, you also have several clubs to chose from. Plenty to do if you have the time.

    Food and Dining

I haven't ate everywhere on campus yet but the places I've been such as Baker has some pretty good food, not too horribly priced.

    Dorm Life

From what my friends who live on campus have told me dorm life isn't too bad.

    Academic Rigor

I'm an engineering student and must say it is not easy but the good side is the teachers are helpful and want to see you pass/succeed so they do what they can you just have to ask.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to your teachers, ask questions, and find friends who can possibly give a review of a teacher ahead of picking a class. Oh and keep the gpa up and b.a.c down.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is a really nice school. Most of the professors I've had are helpful and have no problem doing what they can to help you pass. Also has a nice presence because not being in a huge city, you can still get a country feel.

    Campus Safety

I've never had a safety issue here. I feel pretty safe walking back from the library or other places on campus at night, and I haven't been in any dangerous situations so far. If you party hard and make stupid decisions and put yourself in danger, that's different but if you're smart and take care of yourself you should be fine.

    Greek Life

Greek life is huge here. I underestimated that before coming here. If you're into Greek life that's great. If not (like me) it can be kind of a drag since it seems like so many other people participate in it. But I made the mistake of not getting really involved right away. The more involved I am in other stuff, the happier I am.

    Clubs and Activities

There are TONS of clubs and activities. Get involved right away.

Great for these types of students

If you're coming here just to have fun and party, you'll find what you want. Also though, if you come here with your education forefront in your mind you'll find fantastic opportunities. It all depends on your perspective. Athens is great for a wide variety of people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's a great bike path in the back of South Green that runs along the river. It's fantastic for running, going on walks, biking, just sitting around in the sun. There's a hill that people hike up sometimes too. Also the Ridges, ruins of the old insane asylum on the edge of campus. That's fun to explore.

    Bang for the buck

OU as a whole is well worth what you pay. The only thing I disagree with is that they kind of suck your money out of you when you're here. In the Nelson Market for example, everything is basically three times the price of what it would be elsewhere, and there are huge flat screen tvs that project stupid things like the hours a store is open, etc. As far as education goes though, five stars.

    What to do for fun

If you're into the Greek life, join that. If not, join anything else you can. There are tons of organizations for every sport and hobby, just get out there. Also, there's a great bike path for when its warm, there are plays and concerts in the auditorium which are often free for students, there are cafes and restaurants up town.. there's a decent amount of stuff to do here for Athens being the size it is.

    Food and Dining

There are four dining halls on campus, all of which are very different from each other. So, there's a decent variety in food choices. Obviously, eating at the dining halls all the time, you kind of get sick of it and because its all mass produced food its generally somewhat flavorless. The only serious complaint I have is the lack of real fruits and vegetables. The mass produced stuff isn't even edible sometimes, like rock hard apples etc. But overall its okay.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life varies a lot. Personally, my dorm (on South Green) isn't fancy but it's functional. It's pretty plain and generic but its clean, its a friendly environment, close to the dining halls, and you'll never get fat living here because you walk up hill to go everywhere. Overall, it's been a positive experience so far.

    Academic Rigor

This really depends on how into academics you are. OU has a rep for being a party school so a lot of people here (stupidly) blow off classes and assignments. BUT the faculty is incredible. They really know their stuff, and all of the professors I've had have been really passionate not only about their subjects, but about teaching too. They really want you to succeed. Basially, you get out what you put in.

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED. It's a common phrase, but its seriously important. If you don't get out of your shell and join a club or activity or something like that then it's going to be hard to make friends. Also, don't get carried away with the partying and all that. Yes, there are parties. But if you don't go looking for them, and make stupid decisions at them, then they won't affect you too much.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is a beautiful, if hilly, campus. It's faculty is passionate, kind, and intelligent, and classes are fulfilling for those who really want to learn. The small town life is nice, but if you aren't into partying you need to get involved in other ways, since parties and Greek life make up a large portion of what to do around town on a weekend. (But you don't have to party to have a good time)

I am a member of the Marching 110 and I love the organization. I have made great friends in the group and I will continue to play with the 110 for the next few years to come.

    What to do for fun

You can go exercise or just relax and take in the view. There are several intramural sports and clubs that you can sign up for in your spare time. Really, there is always something to do, you just have to go find it.

    Food and Dining

There are some really good dinning halls on campus, I just happened to be put right next to the worst one. The food is not terrible but it is not the same quality as the other dinning hall's food. I have no idea why they decided to renovate two dinging halls within one hundred yards of each other and then leave one mediocre dinning hall across campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very nice, there are only a few cons such as internet connectivity issues but that is only during hours when everyone is using the internet. The staff is very nice and helpful to all of the students in my dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The work load is not overwhelming, if you put in a little work every day you will be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not bring more than what you NEED.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is a great place to attend school, there is a beautiful view everywhere you go. The staff is very helpful and will even go out of their way to assist a student. I love Athens, Ohio.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do in Athens for fun. Most people associate it with partying, but if that's not your thing there are others things you can do as well. If that is your thing and your 21 you will really enjoy the bar scene. If you are not 21 there are always parties going on, on campus. Fests are really huge at OU. I highly recommend attending as many your schedule will allow. I promise you will not be disappointed.

    Food and Dining

I do not have much experience with on campus dining since I lived off campus, but a majority of the food I tasted was pretty good. There are not really in a big chain restaurants in Athens, but they have the normal fast food places like Mcdonalds, Wendy's, etc. Most places deliver as well so that is always convenient.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in the dorms, but I have plenty of friends who did. The only thing I know about dorms is that location is key. The campus is fairly large so being close to your classes can make things pretty helpful.

    Academic Rigor

Academics here are not too hard, but I would not say it is really easy. Keep up in your work and try to maintain a balance between parties and school. If you do this you should do fairly well. It's really how much you prepare for you classes and how much time you are willing to put in. Classes that students have difficulties in usually have some type of component set up to help students. Teachers are also very accessible if you find yourself struggling in any class.

    Tips for prospective students

Really get to know the campus before you come. Walk around see what there is to offer. Get involved as soon as you get a chance. People are really friendly so do not be intimidated to do this. Getting involved in some type of extracurricular activity can really help in meeting new people.

    In three sentences

Ohio University is a great school. This is the third school I have been to in the last three years and I feel like attending here was the best choice I ever made.

    Food and Dining

It's college food. It isn't five star dining.

    Dorm Life

The dorms leave a bit to be expected, as most colleges do. The bathrooms can get a little gross, and the rooms are small.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at OU are some of the best in the country. The professors all know exactly what they're doing.

    Tips for prospective students

Safety on campus is a real concern, rape numbers are high and the Athens county police are not very through. I recommend always walking home with someone and taking self defense courses if you plan to be out late regularly.

    Greek Life

OU is very into Greek life, walking down court street you will always find groups of girls in their sorority shirts going to lunch or just sitting outside their house.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls always have something for everyone.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are small and crowded, I am grateful I live at home!

    Academic Rigor
