    If you are very intimate about your privacy get a single room in the dorms. Build good relationships with your professors it can be the difference between getting a B+ or an A. Try your best not to be shy, college is about getting an education but also building valuable connections.

    To make friends at any college you have to get involved in something. To make friends at a commuter college you have to find something you are interested in and make more of an effort to get involved. Even if it is going to the gym, you can find people there with similar interests. Also take advantage of the professors for help in your courses. You would be surprised how available they are.

    Take advantage of the resources on campus, such as the advising office. The faculty are friendly and will help you with whatever you have questions about. Even if you do not have a set plan of attack, they will try to get you into classes of different subjects. Take the vocational planning class because it will really help give you an idea of what you want to do with your life.
