    Tips for prospective students

even if you think you want to stay close to home, make at least one trip outside your comfort area. You may just find a hiiden gem

    Bang for the buck

cost although higher for out of state is still relatively resonable.

When going to a university such as OSU you need to be outgoing and ready to try new things. You also must be able to manage your time because no one else will do this for you. Being a science student I would suggest looking at the school if you are interested in the science or business area.

    Tips for prospective students

The amount you learn in a class depends on many different factors. In the first year you really have to learn how to juggle a whole new array of things that can become quite overwhelming. OSU offers some helpful classes on time juggling, study sessions, and other recourses which should be taken advantage of. Teachers can also play a large role in how much you learn throughout your college experience. Check out www.ratemyprofessors.com for some reviews by people who have already taken the class so you know what to expect.

    Bang for the buck

I have only been at OSU for a year but so far its been a lot of money for simple classes. At OSU you have the option of dual enrolling in Linn Benton. I would definitely suggest looking into this, especially in your first year. There is a Beaver Bus that will take you directly to Linn Benton which I believe runs every 30 minutes so transportation is not a major issue. Classes are very expensive and you can get the basics out of the way for a lot cheaper.

    Am enjoying being here

I was very apposed to the idea of moving into the dorms but my parents convinced me anyways and I reluctantly went along with their decision. Living in the dorms my first year actually turned out to be a ton of fun. You have the freedom to go anywhere whenever you'd like as well as be close to classes and new friends. The dorms also have loads of activities for you to participate in. As long as you immerse yourself in all activities you find interesting and balance your studying with your fun you will have a great time.

    Am learning a lot

Some of my teachers simply did not teach in a style that worked for me. Sometimes even the information I learned in classes I found to be completely irrelevant and worthless to my learning needs. It took a long time to adjust and honestly I would have to say high school did not prepare us enough for the change. When sitting in lectures with 200+ students in them you can find yourself easily distracted, especially when you do not always get the chance to ask questions if you are confused or understand what you are doing wrong. Fortunately once you learn how to affectively use your time it will become easier to adapt your learning style and use the resources available to you.

Great for these types of students

There is more of an emphasis on agriculture, science and engineering than liberal arts. If that's what you want to do, then OSU will provide the education you need to get where you want to go. If you want more of an urban setting, you won't be satisfied here (although Portland is only about an hour away). But it doesn't hurt to check out a school you never pictured yourself at before. Sometimes putting yourself into the environment of a college is all it takes...

    Tips for prospective students

Corvallis is pretty small (about 55,000 people), so it's a good plan to get involved in different activities on campus. You'll meet people who are interested in the same things you are, as well as those that are totally different from you. There's something for everyone; lots of clubs, Greek life, restaurants nearby to meet up with people. Don't hesitate to venture out and try something new.

    Bang for the buck

Non-resident tuition is a lot higher than resident tuition, but OSU offers a lot of scholarship opportunities depending on your academic and extracurricular interests, as well as your financial need. Considering that you're learning from nationally-recognized professors who are experts in their fields, and that virtually everything you'd need is either on campus or a short trip away, the price is not bad at all.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone says it, but OSU is a really beautiful campus. Very green, very open...it's small enough that you can walk anywhere in about twenty minutes, but not not so tiny as to be completely claustrophobic. Sometimes it's nice to just walk leisurely through campus and take it all in. The dorms are pretty nice (as far as college residence halls go!) and there are lots of food options, on and off campus.

    Am learning a lot

Even if you know what you want to do, branch out and take a random class in a totally different subject. I took a Shakespeare course my first quarter (I'm majoring in Biology, going the pre-med route) and loved it. The professors are great, and you never know what subject will capture your interest. Plus, the requirements for graduation (which include mandatory liberal arts classes) are such that every student will achieve a varied education, in addition to fulfilling their major requirements.

Great for these types of students

Students who want a big school, but don't want to be a number to their professors. Students who enjoy learning, and like interacting with their teachers, but if you don't like interacting, you will not be forced, or pressured to. Students who enjoy sporting events and supporting their team.

    Tips for prospective students

Register for a PAC class (PE) like yoga, ballet, or tennis. It will allow you to relax during the craziness of your other classes. Use the library and all other academic resources. There are a lot on campus, and your professors will tell you about them. Don't be afraid of office hours, the professors won't bite and want you to succeed!

    Bang for the buck

In state tuition is a great deal, and out-of-state isn't too bad. The campus and the people make it worth it, and you feel lie you are walking through an Ivy League Campus, without paying as much! The professors love to interact with the students, so you don't get a bunch of research profs. holed up in their office all day, not teaching!

    Am enjoying being here

It is a beautiful campus, with a lot of friendly people. There are a ton of people from all over the nation and world! The community really supports the Beavers, in all endeavors, sports and academic. Just be warned, if you are from a warm state, there is a chance of snow, and it can get very cold with all the rain,

    Am learning a lot

At first, when I decided on going to Oregon State, I wasn't sure if the courses were going to teach me as much as some of the other schools I had gotten into (mostly UC's). I was very wrong about that! From general biology to psychology, to tennis, and yoga, I was learning everyday, and surprisingly enough really enjoying it! The professors really enjoy what they teach, and are interested in the students' thoughts, even in a lecture hall of over 500 students

Great for these types of students

Those who want to major in Science. I visited Montana State, which is known to have a great science program, and even as the representatives were trying to sell MSU, they mentioned Oregon State several times as being a good school for natural sciences.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're going to be living in a dorm and with a roommate, take the time to look through the profiles people have filled out and e-mail your roommate beforehand. Having a fun, agreeable person to come home to (and your dorm will become your home, trust me!) is MUCH more pleasant than one you don't get along with!

    Bang for the buck

If you're from Oregon, the tuition is very reasonable. The cost to live in one of the dorms is less well-priced, but your money is definitely put to good use. For instance, there was a dorm-wide LAN party (complete with free pizza, soda and energy drinks), plus the dorm provides all sorts of activities in the lounge, such as pool and ping-pong tables, an arcade game and a big screen TV.

    Am enjoying being here

OSU offers a gorgeous campus that is small enough I can walk to all of my classes, but which is also extremely bike-friendly. The dorm experience has also been fantastic, as I've been able to find other students with the same interests (in fact, I've met many people in my dorm who are also in my classes, which is very helpful when it comes to finding study buddies).

    Am learning a lot

My lectures do have a lot of people (200-600 students), but I haven't found that to be a problem. My professors are accustomed to teaching large groups (and thus accommodating a large amount of learning styles). Additionally, many of my classes have smaller recitation sections, with only 20 people. Also, every time I've had a question, my professors have been great about replying promptly to my emails.

Great for these types of students

Those who don't mind being in a smaller town, although the university has about 20,000 students, there's not a whole lot to do off of campus. Students should be willing to meet new people and be open to new ideas. People who want to be involved in greek life would also like it here, as a lot of students are involved in it around campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should choose a college in a city they know they will like. They should also be sure of what major they want, or see if their college has an exploratory program so they can be the happiest possible while attending school, by taking classes they enjoy! Also, I would recommend going somewhere farther away from home if you are an outgoing person, and staying closer to home if you have a more difficult time making friends. Also, be sure to do all of the homework and readings your professor assigns the night it is assigned, as it is easy to get behind if you don't!

College is what you make of it.

    Am enjoying being here

Students are mature compared to high school. I enjoy the environment and the outgoing people I run into. The town can get a bit boring. Also, if you enjoy running outside, it's mainly all pavement.

    Am learning a lot

Classes can be difficult, but it makes one buckle down and study since the college education is very crucial.

Great for these types of students

OSU is great for students who are not big city people, students that want a calmer town. It may seem small, but it has a lot to offer. Besides that any student can come here to explore the many opportunities (majors, study abroad, internships, culture, diversity, tolerance, etc.)

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Always go to class, because there might be a chance that the professor will go over important things to know for the midterm or test. 2. Always read the book chapter before class, allowing you to understand and ask questions later on (the unclear stuff). 3. Take advantage of the professor's office hours and tutoring 4. Have fun! go to college events and explore...there are so many open opportunities, you just need to look for them.

    Bang for the buck

I am an out of state student so my tuition tends to be pretty high, at least 10,000 more than an in state student. For me becoming a resident and applying for scholarships will allow me to stay in my dream school. Whatever it takes, don't let the numbers scare you, because there are ways.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is friendly and open minded. Many resources are placed inside and outside of campus, so you never get bored. I am enjoying getting to meet many students from around the world and going to many of the cultured based activities inside OSU.

    Am learning a lot

OSU has many resources for students to be successful. First of all the amount of tutoring with teacher assistants and at the library. Second of all, the open office hours of the professors are great because they really want students to go in and ask away. Many classes here are 200 or more students, but if you take the initiative of sitting in the front and asking questions once in a while, you can benefit from the class. At the end, it all depends on the student and how they approach the class.

Animal science students because they offer many undergraduate classes and plus a graduate veterinary school right on campus! They offer many clubs, sports, and a variety of specialized activities through their animal science department.

    Tips for prospective students

Living in the dorms your first year can be an interesting experience! It allows you to get in touch/network with many fellow students and make lots of friends. Setting up hall activities and/or trips was a great way to spend your free time or take a break from studying. They are also a great way to get involved and get to know the people around you.

    Bang for the buck

Out of state is fairly high but there are many programs to include and provide international/national study abroad opportunities to fit your financial needs.

    Am enjoying being here

The best part of OSU is the number and variety of activities/events held here. You can find just about anything from clubs, fitness, volunteer opportunities, sports, crafts, and hosted informational lectures. If you want to have an enjoyable experience here make time for something during dull hours or to break up the lull in studying.

    Am learning a lot

As with most colleges and universities not every course offering is entirely the same. It really depends on the instructor you get for a course, some have different teaching styles than others and may not match your learning techniques.

Great for these types of students

Engineering, math, education (any type), business, and a variety of other things.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a pac class at some point and take a break from academics. Also, take a class that sounds interesting and has nothing at all to do with your major, you may learn a lot from getting outside your comfort zone.

    Bang for the buck

The in state tuition at OSU is very reasonable and for out of state, the best deals on classes are taking classes during the summer when you can get in-state tuiton rates.

    Am enjoying being here

The OSU campus is absolutely gorgeous with trees everywhere and the look of an ivy league school with brick buildings lining the streets of campus and 2 large grass quads that are perfect for lounging in the spring and summer. In regards to the academics, there are some great engineering and science programs at OSU as well as good teaching and business programs as well. Outside of school there is a thriving greek system and a variety of clubs and organizations that you can join as well as intermural sports and club teams for a variety of sports.

    Am learning a lot

You definitely get out of every class what you put into it. On the whole the teachers are extremely willing to help you out in any way that they can. Teachers do want you to do well in your classes. The thing that is fun about OSU is that you are required to take courses in all different areas outside of your major, so you have some opportunity for variety in your schooling.

Great for these types of students

Good school for science majors, most students here fit under this category. Every other major is about average. But then again for undergraduates most schools are equivalent for certain majors. Most of that prestige for a good job does not come until you get into graduate school.

    Tips for prospective students

Think about what you like, if you want to go to another government funded public school expect big classes. Since Salem does not seem to understand that you need to fund more money to the university to make smaller classes. Then a public school is good for you. I enjoy big classes because I do not want to be called on for information I just want to sit back and learn from the master. Fretting about answering questions that the teacher may randomly call upon you for distracts me from learning.

    Bang for the buck

Dorms are not worth it unless you have lots of money and you are lazy. Otherwise a house or dorm by the campus is way better, way cheaper and you can actually have a good diet on a low budget with all the great grocery stores here. But then again you might want to be in the dorms for a year to make some new friends. The tuition however is reasonable for in-state students.

    Am enjoying being here

Very nice place, dorms are fantastic in the West quad at least. I enjoy the night life even though there are not too many things to do outside of clubs, religious events or frats/sororities. The city is kind of lame but I do not need my car to be here. Which I think is convenient and helps me save some money. Most people are very nice here too.

    Am learning a lot

I took an IB loaded course load in high school but I currently have to take 100 level classes. So my course work seems easy now and will hopefully get hard when I get into the 300 level classes/coursework that requires perquisites.

Engineers get a lot of perks at OSU, like free printing, lots of computer labs around campus, and more. Also check out the Honors College if you are looking for smaller class sizes, but still want the resources a large university provides.

    Tips for prospective students

Seek out and explore resources available. If you are finding any subject difficult, there is likely already some school sponsored assistance available if you look in the right places.

    Bang for the buck

OSU is reasonably priced (dorms are on the expensive side), but there are not a ton of scholarships available. There are a good number of campus jobs that will work around your school schedule to help offset costs.

    Am enjoying being here

The overall atmosphere of the campus and surrounding community is very relaxed. The size of the town is not too large, but has a very good variety of stores within walking or biking distance. Other students are friendly and willing to help, even if you don't know them.

    Am learning a lot

The education quality is very good overall. The professors and instructors are very good overall. Despite it being a large school, many will make a good effort to learn and remember your name at least while you are in their class. Engineers are worked hard, but you feel like you are learning very applicable material.

Oregon State has a great engineering program which attracts many students here. It's also great for those people who need a change but don't want that big of one. OSU is just big enough to make you feel like you're out in the real world and living on your own, but small enough to where you can easily find your place and feel as though you belong to something greater.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip for any student looking into college is to take a campus tour. The tour can really make or break your decision to attend that college. When I took a tour of the Oregon State campus I felt like I could see myself there and that was a huge factor when I was choosing where to go. Another tip is that your college experience will be whatever you make it out to be. There are so many ways to be involved so college is the time to find and follow your passions.

    Bang for the buck

You get a total package when you come to Oregon State. There are over 200 undergraduate majors offered at OSU. Along with academics there are many different clubs and student organizations you can join. OSU also has Division 1 sports which provides sporting events nearly every day that you can attend. Along with the collegiate sport level we provide a huge competitive intramural sports program.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful and everything is very close together. It is considered a smaller campus but there is enough to do and places to go that you don't feel confined. The city of Corvallis is a great college town as well. They get really into the Beaver Nation spirit and there are many things to do off campus. Everyone is very welcoming and there is always something to do on campus or in town.

    Am learning a lot

There are many different types of classes offered at OSU. No matter what your major is there are several options of classes within each category so you get to chose your own path. The professors are all very knowledgeable and most teach a variety of topics so they are well rounded.

    Campus Safety

there are so many ways to keep yourself safe on campus. the only challenge would be knowing how to utilize the options.

    Greek Life

pretty typical. i joined a sorority as previously stated.

    Clubs and Activities

there is plenty to join in with. i personally joined a sorority and the polo club(polo as in horses).

    Bang for the buck

out of state is way too pricey. in state is perfect.

    What to do for fun

what there is to do for fun depends solely on you. parties are easy to find, the gym is open late, there is a bowling alley on campus, and there are always random events-just check the osu calendar.

    Food and Dining

it is very easy to get bored of the food places closest to you. the food tastes fine, nothing outstanding though. i wish that there were more complete meal options that included fruits and vegetables rather than having to buy everything separate.

    Dorm Life

i'm biased being in west hall. for me, food is right down stairs, i share a bathroom with only 3 other girls, and my ra is pretty chill. i would definately recommend using the roommate match network that osu has. one big thing is the fact that you do not need to save up on quarters for laundry.

    Academic Rigor

it all depends on the classes you are taking and the professor that you get. it is very easy to start with really easy classes and build to the harder ones that you could have started with in the beginning if you didn't mind working at it.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you know your budget. out of state is very expensive. don't be afraid to try new things. it is very easy to get involved. it is very easy to put other things in front of academics. remember, you're here to learn first.

Its a really great agricultural school, but its good for pretty much anybody.

    Tips for prospective students

Study, study, study. Can't say it enough. There is homework, but its the midterms and finals you really have to work on. That's pretty much all your grades are; tests.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition costs are really very reasonable and your getting a top notch eduction.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are really interesting and you might find yourself looking into a topic or major you'd never thought of! My classes have an 150-400 people, but most classes have smaller recitation classes with like 20 people in them for extra help. And teachers have office hours where you can have one on one time with the professor.

Social butterflies, those who are great at learning out of a book

    Tips for prospective students

Join a club, get involved, all that good stuff. I would really recommend getting involved in your hall's government if you live in the dorms though.

    Bang for the buck

Everything is quite expensive, from tuition to housing expenses to food. The bookstore prices for clothing and school supplies (as well as books) is ridiculous. But a good overall experience nonetheless.

    Did enjoy being here

I lived in the dorms which was a great experience. Always lots of activities going on in the dorms and across campus. Free food events rock!

    Did learn a lot

I was in a lot of big lecture classes and did not enjoy it at all. All my classes conflicted with my professor's office hours as well and professors are really busy and can't always meet with you either, so I barely ever got extra help. Lots of information was just thrown at me, and most I felt was useless.

    Campus Safety

The campus has a large emphasis on safety. There are emergency alarm systems located all over campus that all you have to do is press a button and it notifies the police. Since there are so many police officers in the area the response time is cut down significantly. There is also many people all over the place and the only time there isn't is late at night in which police patrol the campus regularly. Overall, there have been hardly any problems with campus security and the students should feel safe when walking through campus.

    Greek Life

Greek life is significant part campus life. People that are newly recruited into the Greek system are constantly meeting other members of the Greek system. There are social functions between sororities and fraternities happening almost every week as well as unique philanthropies put on by each house that get the entire Greek community together. The streets of 25th and 26th compose â??Greek Row,â?? and are saturated with the majority of the Greek houses and some are huge buildings that have been around for over 100 years.

    Clubs and Activities

Almost every major has a club and are fairly active and meet together regularly. They are very good for students looking to get together and meet other students in their major as well as get to know some of their instructors as well. They can help with many future opportunities for students. The campus also has many activities going on every week. In addition, there are many speakers that come into town from around the state and country to speak on various topics.

Great for these types of students

Students that enjoy seeing a lot of people around all the time, are active, and enjoy socializing with enjoy Oregon State. If you are someone who is focuses very hard on your classes and like to dedicate most of your time to learning, there is a ton of others exactly the same and many go to the library for extensive hours every day, especially students in their junior and senior years with difficult majors. The diversity of people on campus is great and everyone will be able to find their place easily.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

On game day a ton of students, parents, and alumni swarm to Reser stadium to watch the football games. Many people go running and hiking up to Bald Hill which is outside campus on the west side. The landscape is relatively flat so many people ride bikes, long board, or skateboard around for fun or to class.

    Bang for the buck

Even though tuition all over the state keeps going up a small amount every year it still is manageable. There are also a lot of services that your tuition covers and should be used to your fullest extend if you can because your paying for it whether you use it or not. However, you get what you pay for and if you get your degree you will be in a much better job position than you would have without making the investment in a college education.

    What to do for fun

What you do for fun is up to you and the type of person you are. There are over 20,000 students at Oregon State so there is literally every type of person here, and many of them. Make friends, socialize, and find people that like to do the same things as you, odds are they know more people. Your friend base increases in size significantly as your time goes on at Oregon State. During the fall football games are a huge deal, and during spring there are people usually everywhere. Dixon recreation is a great place to do anything sports related and it is big. It has a large and small weight room, basketball courts, volleyball courts, indoor track, , racket ball courts, two rooms for cycling and treadmills, two pools, a hot tub, a huge indoor rock climbing area, outdoor soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball court, baseball fields, and track.

    Food and Dining

There are many different restaurants and dining halls around campus that usually are pretty good, and decently priced for the college student's budget. There are also many places right off campus to eat at, all along Monroe Ave.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are co-ed and usually full of students all the time. They have RA's that watch over the dorms and make sure everything is in order at all times. There is usually dorm events that help students get together and meet the other students living close to them.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, classes can be non-intense with a decently spaced out work load, but on the other hand they can also be very intense with a constant work load, especially with any science related majors. If you're an engineering student you should know Oregon State prides themselves on the high output of successful and focused engineering students, and the classes are designed in a way that they will make sure you are one of those people or you won't make it in that major.

    Tips for prospective students

If you know anyone that already goes to Oregon State you should contact them and try to find out as much useful information as possible. When you first get here you should explore and familiarize yourself with the campus as well as learn as much as you can about the services that Oregon State can offer you, with most already paid for by your tuition. Make a point to meet your academic adviser and explain to them everything you are planning to do with your education and try to gain as much advice as you can from them and your older peers. Unless you are 100% sure of your major you should focus your class schedule on your bacc core classes for the first year or two because many people switch majors within the first year or two and you don't want to take more classes or re-take classes if you don't have to. Make sure you are proactive on due dates for classes, write a list if you have to of due dates, and try to get everything done before it is due because studying and homework can pile up fast if you're not on top of it. Meet your professors and TA's in office hours if you can, and don't be afraid to ask them or e-mail them any questions that you have.

    In three sentences

Oregon State University is a beautiful small town university that truly has the college town atmosphere. It has a great teaching staff, helpful financial aid office, and many services that make college life easier for students. The campus is uniquely diverse with old style and new advanced looking buildings as well as a diverse group of students and great science programs and facilities; in addition, the campus library is great in a central location.

    Campus Safety

I have never seen a problem occur on-campus. There are Blue Lights located all over campus and they say that the police can be there within a minute. If there is a security threat Oregon State sends out texts and emails to all students. I have always felt very safe on and off campus because I feel that Corvallis in general is a very safe town.

    Greek Life

I am a part of Greek Life and love it! Fraternity and Sorority recruitment is year long, but usually occurs within the first weeks of each term. It can be a little nerve wracking and hectic but the end result is all worth it. By being a part of Greek life you always have someone to hangout or study with. The friendships you make during college really will stay with you forever. Go Greek!

    Clubs and Activities

The Memorial Union strives to engage all types of students in annual activities such as Mom and Dad weekends, band festivals, Relay for Life and Fashion shows that are put on by the Apparel Design department of the college of Public Health and Human Sciences.

Great for these types of students

    - Outgoing (you should consider going Greek!) - Focused (the Honors college has its own resident hall) - Nerdy (there are resident halls specifically for certain majors!)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    - Every year for homecoming Oregon State has a GIANT bonfire in the parking lot of Wilson resident hall. It is a fun tradition that is still going strong. Make sure you bring a sweatshirt though, it can get a little cold at night. - The student section at basketball games is referred to as the Beaver Dam and get very loud during games. (Fun Fact: The coach is Michelle Obama's brother!) - Wearing orange on Friday's is a big way to show your support. Almost everyone wears some sort of beaver gear on Friday's, even the professors!

    Bang for the buck

Overall, Oregon State is everything a PAC 12 school should be: academic, involved, supportive, and outgoing. Plus it is in a great location! Out-of-state tuition is fairly high, but if you did well in high school scholarships will be provided for you through the University. In-state tuition is very reasonable.

    What to do for fun

Oregon State is just 2 hours south of Portland, OR and just 1 hour from the Beach. Dixon Recreation offers a shuttle to Mt. Bachelor that includes transportation and a lift ticket for around $80. The Memorial Union Basement is always a fun place to go with friends. It offers a pool hall, air hockey, bowling, and darts all for around $2-3 each!

    Food and Dining

Even though I work in the dining hall on-campus, I don't think that the food on-campus in the best. It is usually pretty good, but it is often over priced. The dining plans on campus are expensive and tend to leave the student with a balance that they have to 'blow' at the end of the year because it is too late to downgrade and save the money. You have to 'use it' or 'loose it'.

    Dorm Life

Although I only lived in the dorms one term, I enjoyed living in them. The rooms were relatively big and the dorms were located all over campus. The best dorms to live in were the quad dorms, which were Buxton, Cauthorn, Hawley, and Poling. They are located in the center of campus and are close to Dixon Recreation center and the intramural fields. Make sure you leave your quarters at home! Oregon State has free laundry facilities to all students who live on campus. This is a great feature, but make sure you set your alarm for the end of the cycle so other students don't take out your clothes and leave them on top of the washer/dryer.

    Academic Rigor

I am in the college of Engineering, so academic success is a must. If you don't do well (maintaining at least a 3.0) then you can expect to loose scholarships offered from the University and most likely not be accepted into pro school. I can't say anything about other colleges at Oregon State, they may be similar or different. Some great resources offered on-campus at Oregon State are the Math Learning Center in Kidder Hall which has student tutors who can help you with per-algebra all the way up to advanced calculus, the Mole Hole in the Valley Library which helps tutor students in chemistry, and the Cumulative Learning Center in the Valley Library which sets up study groups for all sorts of beginning freshman classes.

    Tips for prospective students

    - Go to all student activities that occur during CONNECT week before the first week of school!! It is a great way to make friends within your resident hall and your major. Plus you get to know your way around campus! - Find out where your classes are BEFORE the first day of class. Some of the buildings can be laid out funny or may have a staircase in an unexpected corner, so make sure you know how to get to the room you need. - Join Intramural sports at least once a year. Becoming involved in a non-academic activity can give you a much needed breather and allows you to meet new people. - Find a club. There is always something going on all over campus. Finding a club that interests you helps you find a study group or library partners.

    In three sentences

Oregon State is a PAC 12 school located in a thriving sub-rural town. Beaver Nation is a very spirited and exciting community of outgoing, focused, nerdy individuals who all have the same goal; get a good education. The College of Engineering is one of the best in the nation, always pushing students to do their best and break boundaries.

    Campus Safety

OSU has it's own branch of Oregon State Police as well as campus police. Campus is well lit and there are plenty of easily identified emergency phones located across...I've never felt unsafe on this campus!

    Greek Life

There are plenty of frats & sororities near campus if that's something you are interested in. The Greek housing leaders work closely with OSU and it's community to help support students.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs & activities for just about any topic you can think about...you just have to look for them.

Great for these types of students

OSU works for all students, US and international! You just have to be willing to say Hi! and meet new people! OSU has plenty to offer!

    Bang for the buck

If you are an out-of-state student you can really save $$$ by taking classes during the summer term (Summer Session, summer.oregonstate.edu) because ALL students pay in-state tuition. Plus OSU is only 1 of 2 land, sea, space grant institutions! So there's plenty of research going on to get involved in!

    What to do for fun

There's plenty to do both on/off campus, you just have to be willing to look for it. Outdoors (biking, hiking, boating, jet skis, tubing, camping, fishing, hunting, swimming, snow skiing, water skiing, motorcycling, etc.). Indoors (bowling, theater, plays, night clubs, social/student clubs, research, competitions, etc.). Students complain that there's nothing to do during the summer - REALLY!?!?! That's when there's the most to do!

    Food and Dining

There are three dining halls on campus, each offering a variety of restaurants and food choices (American, Italian, Chinese, Coffee Shop, Sandwich, cafeteria style, etc.) plus plenty of regular restaurants within walking distance from campus.

    Dorm Life

The majority of the dorms have recently been remodeled and offer the standard comforts expected. Of course, the social aspects of living near friends and conveniently on campus are always a bonus!

    Academic Rigor

As with ANY school, you have good & bad profs, as well as good & bad classes...but the good ones definitely outweigh the bad.

    Tips for prospective students

Even if you don't know what degree you want (if you're undeclared), don't sweat it! At OSU, there's so much to do & try that you'll have the opportunity to complete your core classes and dabble in a variety of topics to help you determine what your major should be.

    In three sentences

OSU & Corvallis has so much to offer (year-round) it's sometimes hard to know where to start. It has a beautiful, relaxed campus with nearly 25,000 students & Corvallis' central location provides easy access to plenty of activities in less than 3 hours (beach, skiing, hiking, bicycling, camping, parks, lakes, etc.). And during the summer term everyone pays in-state tuition, plus the majority of courses are accelerated so you can complete them within 1-4 weeks, and still have time to enjoy your summer!

    Campus Safety

Rated one of the most safest campuses in America...its because we're in a smaller city and there's literally NO violence when you compare to L.A. or any metropolitan city. No gangs, no nothing. Campus security is everywhere.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is HUGE here. But I can't say much since im not actually in it. From what I hear from friends its good.

    Clubs and Activities

LOTS of clubs and activities to enjoy on campus. The number of activities is extensive.

Great for these types of students

Nature freaks (me), soccer lovers, general middle class white people and arabs (oddly).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Tour de Francia - everybody gets on their bike or longboard and we go from house to house all around corvallis and have this MASSIVE party where wine is the preferred drink. Its the greatest thing i've been to in my years here, hundreds of people show up and the streets are taken over.

    Bang for the buck

Average, some professors are good some aren't BUT there is ALWAYS help, you just have to seek it. It is recommended to go to office hours and go to the tutor areas. Help is easy to find. Besides school, the facilities are good, sometimes TOO good especially when it comes to sports. In general the facilities are better then Portland State University and comparable with Oregon State University (The ducks)

    What to do for fun

Intermural sports are great at OSU, especially soccer. There's a HUGE community of soccer players here in oregon and lots of international students so there's always a pickup game when its not raining. Ultimate Frisbee is also big, basketball is as big as soccer or bigger since you can play indoors. If not sports there's always some event going on and they turn out to be pretty fun in general. Last year I went to african night and got 2 feet away form a live Cheetah.

    Food and Dining

It's pretty good in variety and you'll all ways see someone you know at the dining courts.

    Dorm Life

You'll have fun as long as you research what type of environment you want to live in. There's the general party dorms, more community oriented dorms, international ones, gamer ones...ect Ask some upperclassmen what their dorms were like and you'll get a good idea.

    Academic Rigor

Classes aren't too difficult compared to many other colleges, at least not for the first two years. But this doesn't mean you don't have to study, most people still find the material challenging, in my opinion I look for something more challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

You need to get into some sort of club or some kind of on campus research job if you really want an advantage over others. Start freshman year, you don't have to take it serious until the 2nd year. Overall you have to look for your own opportunities in most cases.

    In three sentences

Good structure and has great major options but all the basic classes are big and professors are average for the first two years. There's always something to do on campus even though it rains a lot in winter and late fall. People are great, fraternity life is huge.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe. There are safety booths all over campus where students can quickly call for help if the need arises. There are also campus police to ensure the safety of the students.

    Greek Life

Time and time again, Greek Life proves that they are a strong community. Greek Life members are highly involved in campus events and provide a strong voice throughout the campus and the community. Annually they show support with their participation in community service projects, and by the money that they raise for the community through their philanthropies. The Greek community is also very supportive of fellow Greek members and has proven in hard times that they may compete, but they are there for one another without hesitation.

    Clubs and Activities

There is an extensive list of clubs and different activities for students at Oregon State to get involved with. If you have a passion for something, or a desire to learn something, chances are that you will find what you are looking for at Oregon State.

Great for these types of students

Oregon State offers a great experience for all types of students, whether you want to focus on academics, or want to play sports, learn a language or skill, join Greek life, or become involved in campus government- Oregon State has what your looking for!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

On Halloween there is a spooky on campus haunted 'house'. There are spaces under many of the older buildings that are used for plumbing/electric/storage, but come Halloween one of the buildings goes all out to give students a spooky experience!

    Bang for the buck

Oregon State is a great school! Students definitely get a good bang for their buck. The key to getting the best pay out is to get involved in campus events and activities. There are also clubs for different majors that help students make necessary connection for finding internships and jobs after they graduate.

    What to do for fun

Corvallis is a really great town with many thing to do for fun. On campus there a many clubs to join and seasonal intramural sports, along with an awesome gym pack with fun activities and classes. There is also an on campus bowling alley. Just a short distance from campus there are great hiking and biking trails.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good at Oregon State. Bing's calzones are a must have!

    Dorm Life

There are many types of dorms in many locations, all are neat and offer different living opportunities to students.

    Academic Rigor

The focus on academics and availability of help is really stellar at Oregon State.

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the school and set up an appointment with an adviser if you want to know more information about the school or about a specific field or major.

    In three sentences

Oregon State is a great school! The campus is beautiful and the teachers are helpful and care about the students. Whether you know your education goals or not, there are advisers ready to help you find the right path.

    Campus Safety

I have lived all over the country, and even in other countries, and I can honestly say that the Oregon State campus is one of the safest places I've been. Corvallis is a safe town, and students at Oregon State are friendly for the most part and certainly not hostile. At no point have I ever felt unsafe on campus, even late at night.

    Greek Life

Greek life isn't really big at Oregon State. I was initially interested in joining a fraternity, but decided not to because of the time commitment. I get the impression that not many students at Oregon State are part of Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a variety of clubs at Oregon State, yet I am not a part of any of them. The only club I would be interested in joining; track and field, does not exist at Oregon State. Clubs also go out of their way to find interested participants during the start orientation.

Great for these types of students

Oregon State is an excellent environment for just about any type of student. I have met all kinds of people, and honestly, I can't picture anyone being out of place here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At this point I have not encountered any unusual traditions or locations on campus. There is however, an amazing 12,000+ acre college forest, which is a great place to go on a hike with someone.

    Bang for the buck

The education you get at Oregon State University is of great value, especially if you choose a major that Oregon State is renowned for, such as the forestry program. The food is not really good bang for your buck though.

    What to do for fun

I enjoy playing sports on one of the many fields available at Oregon State. It's not very hard to find people to socialize with on the weekends. There is also the college forest, just north of the campus, which is a great place to visit.

    Food and Dining

Oregon State's dining service provides decent food, but at a relatively high cost for what you get. There is a decent variety food available, and there are plenty of healthy options. There is also several different dining halls to eat at.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at Oregon State University are better than most dorms I've seen at other schools. The bathroom facilities are thoroughly cleaned daily, and the staff is very helpful and accommodating. The only thing I have been disappointed with is the lack of cooking facilities in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I have been rather impressed with my major's program; forest engineering. However, I have been rather disappointed with some of the core classes, such as the writing 121. Oregon State would not accept my writing 101 credits from the University of Rhode Island, yet writing 101 was far more rigorous than writing 121.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't fall behind on your work, because of the quarter based system, classes move at a faster rate than semester based colleges. Also, its a great idea to develop a workout schedule. It rains a lot in Corvallis, and it's very easy to get out of shape if you don't stay active.

    In three sentences

Oregon State University is a very well-rounded school. I have certainly found my niche here, both academically and socially. I believe Oregon State University is a great place for just about anyone that is academically inclined.

    Greek Life

I am personally a part of a Women in Engineering Sorority and it is one of the best things I have experienced on Campus. It is a way to commect with girls just like me. If you can, Get involved in a Greek Community that is centered around your major!

    Clubs and Activities

Rowing, Sailing, Dancing, Fitness classes Ect.

Great for these types of students

    Engineering, Business, Forestry

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is always something going on in the MU Quad where you will end up will a handful of free stuff.

    Bang for the buck

It may be a little more of a cost than what pleases the eye, but there are many things that are very great to have on campus. There is a Health office that has everything a college student needs, free football game tickets (if you're willing to camp out), there is a fantastic recreation center/gym, they offer free counselling sessions, craft center, and much much more. It may seem a little much at first, but for all of the resources we have available to us, it is a steal!

    What to do for fun

There are so many events that are always going on. RA's are really good at getting everyone out of their rooms and getting involved. There is a bowling ally in the MU basement, and there is a huge workout enter at Dixon with a rock climbing wall and swimming pool. There is always something fun you can do at OSU.

    Food and Dining

The food in the OSU dining centers are very opinionated. I personally think that they are pretty good all things considered. There are many places to eat, with many options of food to choose from. It has been pretty for me to eat healthy as well.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a difficult transition. From having a home cooked meal and your laundry being folded by your mother, to you doing it all yourself it is hard at first. It wont take long to get used to it though. The only advice I have as for making friends in the dorms are to put yourself out there in that first few weeks, they are critical.

    Academic Rigor

It is going to be very difficult to keep up with all of your studies, but if you read your books and ask for help from your professors, you will be right where you need to be. There are tons of resources to help you study.

    Tips for prospective students

Get a planner and read your e-mails! Manage your time well. You are now responsible for everything that you do. Schedule your classes in time, pay your fees in time, and keep track of your exams.

    In three sentences

Oregon State University has everything that I am looking for in a college. The community is wonderful and it is such a beautiful place to be. If ever there is a question there is somewhere to find an answer.

    Tips for prospective students

Live in the dorms your fist year! It's a great way to make friends.

    Am enjoying being here

There is always an event happening on campus. Which is good, because Corvallis is a sleepy town. It is so easy to get involved with hundreds of clubs.

    Am learning a lot

I Love the classes I am taking! I thought it would be a difficult transition because the classes at OSU are so large, but it didn't affect my learning at all. Help is always available.

    Bang for the buck

For out of state students, tuition is way too much. It is unfair to have to pay three or four times what in-state students are paying just because we are paying taxes in another state. For me, going to OSU was cheaper than going to school in California at an extremely impacted school. I'm still paying over $25,000 for a state school, which is too much.

    Campus Safety

I am so happy with the campus safety. I'm never afraid to walk alone because I know that there are help buttons on every light pole in town. It's a good town to go to school in if you're kind of scared about safety issues.

    Greek Life

Greek life is so huge at my school. There are over 20 Greek houses in the town and they make a huge difference in our community. They put on philanthropies all the time and they have such big school spirit.

    Clubs and Activities

I found myself wanting to join every club because they're all really great. There are about 100 clubs that you can join and you can always make your own. The variety for these clubs are just insane!

Great for these types of students

The campus is really great for those that like to volunteer and recycle. Also it's ideal for athletes, Greek life and those focused just on academics. It's a school for everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are a few places on campus that have a couple unique traditions. Once a year during the spring they set up a stage covered in snow and have a snowboarding competition. They also have music artists come and play to students. It's very fun

    Bang for the buck

I feel like I'm not really getting the full experience with the price I'm paying for school. You get charged for literally everything i.e.: building fees, incidental fees, etc. and you don't even know what they're for.

    What to do for fun

There are so many activities to do in Corvallis. There are many trails to hike up when you're feeling like you need to get outside. Also there is a workout facility called Dixon and it has so many things to offer you'll never get bored.

    Food and Dining

Honestly the food is a bit bland. On top of that it's high priced and saturated in nasty oils. I was not impressed when I ate at the dining halls.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very fun. I've never personally lived in one but my boyfriend did and he met so many cool people. It's a fun way to get acquainted with the town and also get the full college experience.

    Academic Rigor

It's a rather challenging school but it's nice because I know i'm getting the right education for my money. The teachers were very fast paced so it's nice to ask lots of questions. Always make sure to know when your homework is due.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for as many scholarships as possible. FAFSA is so important to do January of your senior year. And i'd say just to study hard and do your best on tests in high school.

    In three sentences

I'd say it's a beautiful school with great programs. The advisors were helpful and I feel welcome here. The only thing bad about it is the cost.

there are great things at osu that i haven't seen at other schools. moms and dads weekends are a lot of fun. also, if you're part of greek life there is a thing called sing every year that i think is unique to osu. not supported by osu, but people go down to california lake shasta every spring in groups of people which is also a lot of fun.

    Bang for the buck

expensive for out of state and they don't have the wue. but really cheap if you're in state.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

one tradition at osu is humans vs zombies. it's approximately a week long game where students start out as humans (with a few zombies) and try not to get caught by the zombies. they protect themselves with nerf guns or rolled up, clean, socks while the try to complete missions. it is a lot of fun to both watch and participate in. once a human is caught, they become a zombie. zombies must eat every day or two or they die.

    Bang for the buck

college is always expensive but as far as comparing to other schools, osu gives you the education you pay for.

    What to do for fun

there are sports and dixon, all kinds of clubs, huge fields for playing frisbee or other games with friends, and a beautiful campus to walk around and enjoy with friends. there are also games and ping pong and what not set up in the lounges if you live in one of the dorms.

It's pretty common to be walking around at night (back from a midterm, the gym, etc.), but I have always felt completely safe on campus. If you ever are in danger though, there are big, glowing emergency buttons you can press on just about every corner. You press the button and the police are there in less than 30 seconds. Voila!

Humans vs. Zombies! I personally don't play, but it definitely looks like a lot of fun and the players really seem to enjoy it.

    Food and Dining

Dorm food has a bad reputation of being bland, but I haven't found that to be true. The nice thing about the dining halls is that there's such a great variety. In any given place, there are foods from many different cultures (Chinese, Italian, American, Japanese), so it never gets boring!

    Dorm Life

The only complaint I have about dorm life is that it's almost TOO much fun. There are always people around to hang out with and everyone is so friendly! I have made so many friends in my dorm and I love it!

    Academic Rigor

Oregon takes safety of the students and people of campus seriously. Around campus you will see emergency blue lit pillars with emergency buttons where security and law enforcement will arrive when pushed.

    Greek Life

Being apart of Greek Life myself, I highly recommend it! Being involved by joining a Fraternity or a Sorority helps break down those barriers and helps with making new friends, and your own support system away from home.

    Clubs and Activities

Here at Oregon State their are many clubs to join! When walking through our Quad you will see them displayed with information and welcoming arms, along with booths advertising upcoming activities on campus.

    What to do for fun

There are a variety of things to do on and off campus for the students with many interests, indoor and out.

    Food and Dining

The food here on campus gives the students many options! From dining halls, coffee shops, campus grocery stores, and chain food restaurants are available to us the students.

    Dorm Life

As a freshman I lived in the dorms for that entire first year. I would have to say that the dorms on campus at Oregon State University they try to be as involved as possible. It's like the saying goes, You only get out what you put in.

    Academic Rigor

I believe at any college you as a student are going to see a large change in the transition from high school to college on the severity in school work. As a college student you are now at the professional level and are expected to hold yourself accountable.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for up and coming students would be to get involved. Whether it's in a sport, club, Greek life or whatever. Being involved alters ones college experience significantly in the best way.

    In three sentences

Oregon State is a great school not only for their science department, and engineering but for the atmosphere also. A-MAZING. As a former member of greek life I can say that you will network weekly, meet tons of amazing friends and women, instill great values and traditions, and be constantly pushed to your limits to be your best whether its house leadership roles or campus leadership.

    Clubs and Activities

There is literally almost every type of club you could possibly want to join. I highly recommend this!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Greek jump day is always fun to watch. This is where new members of the fraternities literally jump from the stairs of the MU (memorial union) into the arms of their new brothers. Also, Flat tail festival and the snowboarding competition in the MU quad are really fun!!

    Bang for the buck

For being such a large university, I heard much about how short resources were, specifically in the language departments. If we took a few full ride scholarships and redirected those monies back on the university in needed areas, this would reduce frustration felt by students and staff, and also create the opportunity for people to be able to get into the classes needed for graduating on time.

    What to do for fun

Join a club, join greek life, get involved in student government, hiking, fishing, camping, volunteering.

    Food and Dining

good variety in the dorms and in the MU, but pretty fatty.

    Dorm Life

YOU MUST LIVE IN THE DORMS. I lived in Poling (pre-renovation) and the people I met here are in my wedding; truly life-long friends.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes were difficult just because there are so many students (ie. anatomy and physiology) and this makes it a tough environment to focus and ask questions to the professor. What is expected between classes, or even different sections of the same class, are non-consistent. Some classes are harder because the TA's are foreign and you cannot understand the expectations or the lessons.

    Tips for prospective students

Balance your course load with some lower classes, with some higher classes. Do not wait to register when your registration time for classes is imminent. Always carry a map because many of the building names are similar.

    In three sentences

Big campus with big opportunities and no direction of how to get there. Little guidance regarding the inner workings of the university (scholarship availability, transferring, course requirements) Amazing sports programs, but maybe we should re-focus towards academics

    Bang for the buck

Unless you are very well off, or you get most of your school paid for in scholarships, it isn't really worth it to go here. Most students are in debt before the end of their first year, and they are not even getting to take classes they want because they fill up with upperclassmen really fast. Unless you are dead set on being a Beaver, I would say go to a community college first, get all your pre-reqs done, then head to OSU. It will save you thousands of dollars. I am not exaggerating.

    What to do for fun

Corvallis is a small town, and there really isn't too much to do. There are some events on campus, and they can be fun, but the most common thing people do for fun is go to parties.

    Food and Dining

There are many options for food, sometimes you have to walk quite a ways though. Most of the food is pretty good, but there are not many options for eating healthy. I have felt like I eat the same things over and over because the dining hall that was closest to my dorm always served the same things. If you are a heath nut, the dining hall probably won't be a good option for you. Anyone who plans on eating in the dining hall should be expecting to gain a few pounds.

    Dorm Life

I personally was not a fan of dorm life. Some people like it. When moving into the dorms you need to understand that when you have a roommate, you rarely get any privacy. I would recommend finding a roommate before you show up for move in day. Try to get someone who has the same habits and wake and sleep schedule as you. Try to find a roommate that you can see yourself being friends with. It makes life so much easier to live with someone you like, than someone who's every move annoys you.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging, but just enough to make things not boring. Oregon State definitely provides a good education.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get scholarships and financial aid, especially if your parents are not paying for it. The tuition is expensive, the housing is expensive, and all the fees that go along with it are expensive. Also if your parents are not providing you financial support, I would definitely recommend getting a job as soon as you get here because savings run out fast.

    In three sentences

Oregon State has many very good programs, but you have to be prepared to wait a year or two to get into classes you actually want to take. The campus is beautiful and fairly easy to navigate. Most students and faculty are pretty friendly and helpful.

    Campus Safety

There are many services to provide safety for you on campus such as the Safe car. They will take you back to your dorm if you are afraid. The campus is relatively safe otherwise.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs for you to choose from so you can find something that fits your taste.

Great for these types of students

People who are serious about their education will thrive well here. Also, people who want to have parties every weekend will enjoy it.

    Bang for the buck

This is a college where you can party a lot of study a lot. It all depends on what you want to do.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of parties on the weekends since it is a college town. Other than that, there are many sports events throughout the year. They also have a very nice gym. On top of that, the resident halls will inform you on various events.

    Food and Dining

There are multiple dining centers on campus so if you ever get sick of the food at one place, you can go to the other ones.

    Dorm Life

Everyone is friendly and easy to get along with. However, it is quite expensive so finding off campus housing is a good idea.

    Academic Rigor

Getting used to studying in college takes a little while but you will slowly form groups with a wide range of people. If you buckle down, it is not too hard.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

There are so many options at OSU that it's hard to decide what to do. The Dixon Rec center is a massive building with workout equipment, several gyms, two pools, a huge rock climbing wall, and a lot more. There are many student-organized campus-wide games, the Memorial Union Quad gets filled with snow that gets shipped in to snowboard in or play in in the winter. And so much more.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of options- the cafeteria, several restaurants (Panda Express, and something else)- and it's right in Corvallis which has several restaurants and other places to eat.

    Dorm Life

The dorm buildings that I saw looked great. A lot of the buildings have recently been remodeled so they are really nice. Everyone who I've talked to who has stayed in the dorms at OSU said it was a great experience. And you can choose your roommate through the roommate matching network which is great because then you don't get stuck with a total stranger if you don't already have a buddy who is planning to go there too.

    Academic Rigor

All of the Professors I have talked to are enthusiastic about their subject and the classes offered look like they will be really interesting.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're going to college to actually learn and to challenge yourself, rather than to just party, apply for the Honors College. It offers great benefits, it guarantees that all of your classes will actually be taught by professors (as opposed to student teachers), there is a lot of academic help offered through it to students, and Honors College classes have an average class size of 12, rather than a few hundred.

    Clubs and Activities

OSU has tons of student clubs and if there isn't one listed that you want, you can start one really easily. You just need five total people (you plus four more) and a faculty member that you can put down as an adviser, list yourselves as officers, come up with a club name, fill out their sample constitution (fill in the blank), submit a risk assessment file (point and click), and that's it. It sounds way more complicated than it is, but that really is all that there is to it. This works really well if you want to have leadership experience but can't seem to get any.

    Bang for the buck

I would say that for in-state tuition, OSU is pretty decent. I wouldn't pay out-of-state or international tuition for OSU, though, unless they're offering a major that no-one else does. OSU does have a lot of services available to students, which is great, and certainly worth the price of tuition. You have access to free student area seating for every home game of any sport, which is awesome. Plus career services is helpful for newbies, although for me it's a little small, but they still have a lot of career and internship-related resources. There's also the HSRC which is great if you're an independent student or you parents can't really afford much as they provide a monthly food pantry free for students, rental assistance, healthcare insurance reimbursement, mealbux, etc.

    What to do for fun

You're kind of limited on fun by whether or not it's raining outside, but inside Dixon is a climbing wall, pickleball courts, basketball courts, a running track, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, etc. Plus there's McAlexander Fieldhouse which has more basketball courts, a shooting range, etc. They recently finished construction on the Student Legacy Fields which has soccer fields, basketball courts, a running track, and bbq areas which are great when the sun is shining. Most people around here tend to play disc golf or frisbee when the sun is shining, but there's almost always a cricket game happening in the MU quad, which is cool.

    Food and Dining

I give it four stars mostly because of food quality. Food options aren't all that great, but food from the dining halls are relatively cheap and taste good. The most expensive options are in the MU (Togo's, Carl's Jr., Panda Express), but you can also find Bueno's Burritos which gives you a massive burrito for really cheap, plus there's hardly ever a long line, even at 12:30 PM on a weekday.

    Dorm Life

I can't really speak from personal experience, but OSU does offer quite a few different dorm options as well as co-ops. The price is awful and the rooms are small, but the communities are pretty good. Plus they have a lot of social activities specific for each dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Again, I can only speak about the business school and briefly about engineering. Both colleges have a requirement called Pro School, which is basically having to apply to be an upper-classman in that discipline. You start out as pre- whatever it is (either college or engineering, e.g. Pre-Business) and you take courses that are specific for freshmen and sophomores in that college. Once you are admitted to pro school, you can take 300 and 400-level courses in your chosen academic major, but not really before that. Plus, for certain majors, there are very specific classes that are only offered once during the year. Miss it or fail it and you are entire program is delayed, so stay on top of everything!

    Tips for prospective students

I can only really talk about the business school, with a slight dabbling into the engineering school, but my experience has been generally good. Admissions is a bit of a joke if you're older than 18, as they only cater to traditional students, but once you get passed that, it's a good school. Lots of activities and resources available, plus a 24/5 library which is great during midterms and finals.

    In three sentences

OSU is a great little campus, well, little by my standards. Currently there is something like 26,000+ students enrolled, but it doesn't really feel crowded or anything. The general campus has a great east coast feel, lots of red brick everywhere, old growth trees, and generally nice people.

    Clubs and Activities

There are all kinds of clubs one can think of. If you are into numbers then they have the math club. If you are into debating then they have the debate club. If your passion is sports they have various sports clubs including dodge ball.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for any type of student but even more great for those who like to stay active and constantly involved with school activities. There will not be a day a student is not given the chance to be involved with fun school activities if he or she chooses to.

Oregon State University has a great Greek community. This community is close together and heavily involved with the school and community.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in the dorms due to being a transfer student but from what I have heard it is a great experience. They have great food and wonderful room space. They also have many resources available.

    Academic Rigor

Oregon State University offers great academic help. There are many different locations on campus that offer help.

    Tips for prospective students

Each student no matter what background or skills should get involved with on campus events as soon as possible. They should also meet and greet as many people as they can given that residents of Corvallis are great people and also helping. Last tip is to speak to advisers concerning learning opportunities.

    In three sentences

Oregon State University is a 10 out of 10. Its has everything that is needed for any student. It has a great community feeling and deserves a 10.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of fun social gatherings. OSU has a D1 football team so going to football games on the weekends is always a fun activity. There are also many trails and parks around Corvallis; a very fun campus if you enjoy outdoors.

    Food and Dining

I was not very pleased with the food and dining centers. The offer a variety of food, but I just felt like it was not the highest quality ingredients.

    Dorm Life

I did not live in the dorms, but i most of my friends really enjoyed it.

    Academic Rigor

I have found that college is in many was as difficult as you make it. If a student wants to take a very challenging coarse load, Oregon State provides difficult classes in many subjects. Also if a students wants to take a more laid back schedule Oregon State offers a wide array of P.E. classes, including everything from dance and yoga to competitive basketball.

    Tips for prospective students

Oregon State University has excellent math and science programs, however they are very challenging. I recommend that future students make sure that they review science and math skills if they do not have a strong foundation in the math and science.

    In three sentences

Enrolling at Oregon State University is one of the best choices I have made in my life. OSU has a great campus, friendly people, and provides a quality education. I urge every college applicant to consider OSU.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The weather at OSU is all over the place so use it to your advantage. Go out and have a snow fight at two AM or study in the MU quad during dead week instead of the library. say Go Beavs whenever you do anything and yell and the jimmy john's guy.

    Bang for the buck

walk or bike. Pass on the vehicle. It maybe your only exercise for the day plus its good for the earth and your pocket. Find free events on campus instead of ones that cost a fee and take the bus to the mall instead of your car.

    Campus Safety

Bike thefts are about the biggest consistent problem on campus. For anything worse, there's posts all over campus that link students directly to a quick response team at any time of day. There's also Safe Ride that gives drunk students rides home.

    Greek Life

Greek Life, to be honest, seems to revolve around partying and drinking. Sure, there are several philanthropic events a year, but they seem to originate from sororities. I knew several guys from a few frats, and it seemed every time we hung out they would bring up drinking and try to get us involved in hardcore drinking games.

    Clubs and Activities

We have a Formula racing team who consistently wins national titles with their car. There are clubs from every walk of life that deal with multiple ethnic groups, interests, and religions. Sports and physical activity are also very big here, especially with the necessary physical activities classes that can be really fun (scuba diving, anyone?).

Great for these types of students

Outdoors loving students will like it. Engineering seems to have a great, supportive department here, so anyone interested in the field will love it. Seeing as it was first an agricultural school, I can only imagine their ag-science program is beyond amazing, and with the fields right on campus, animal lovers will be in heaven.

    What to do for fun

It seems that every weekend there are both school-sponsored functions and a plethora of off-campus activities to partake in. Being a small town, frat parties seem to be the main focus of weekend entertainment. However, we are right in the middle of a mountain range - there's trails, rivers, hiking, biking, running, and even the beach, all within an hour or so of campus. Those all make for great weekend escapes.

    Food and Dining

While there initially seems to be a wide variety of food to choose from, it eventually becomes stale and a hassle to try and eat healthy, filling food within the dining dollars budget. That's not to say the food isn't fantastic - it just gets old after five months of dorm food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a great place to socialize and make friends. However, studying in the dorms makes it extremely difficult to concentrate, and sometimes they do get really crazy on the weekends.

    Academic Rigor

I find the Engineering prep classes challenging but doable, and I can see how they relate to the potential job field. However, I know some departments are being looked at for professor effectiveness. Hopefully this means that overall education will be getting even better.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of everything: clubs, tutors, Dixon recreation center, intramural sports. They're all put there for your use to help you excel both physically and mentally, so use all the resources you can!

    In three sentences

Oregon State University is very focused on all aspects of their students lives, not just education. Whether it's fitness, food, or entertainment, they do their very best to allow students to thrive. In and out of the classroom, Oregon State is there for the students.

There are may clubs and activities and some of them you might not have seen before, like a rifle club.

    Food and Dining

The dinning halls are great! There is one near all the dorms and many other places to eat all over campus for that quick coffee run before class or just an afternoon snack. There are many different types of cuisine offered at each of the dinning hall so that you never get bored.

    Dorm Life

All the dorms are different sizes with different types of people. Everyone is very friendly so don't worry about that but they can be some what loud so if you don't want to deal with the noise of other people dorm life may not be for you.

    Academic Rigor

The programs offered at OSU are great and will challenge you so be ready to work hard. There is great help offered through the library, the teacher's office hours, and many of the graduate students are also more than willing to help with studying.

    Tips for prospective students

Get ahead and start applying early to all your colleges. Also you should know that Oregon State University is a major science university so if you are looking for a school with a liberal arts program we have one but it may not be the best choice for that type of degree.

    In three sentences

There are tons of activities. OSU offers two indoor centers, one with a full gym, and both with rock walls. The physical activity classes are numerous and diverse, from yoga to wilderness survival. The Dixon rec center also offers a bike shop with free access to tools and engineering students to help with repairs.

    Food and Dining

The food is good, but dining options are limited to the same choices year round. If possible set aside money to have extra foods of your preferences in a mini fridge in your dorm room.

    Dorm Life

Each dorm has its own personality, visit the school and get a feel for each!

    Academic Rigor

Engineering students are required to take a full science back round core before moving into pro-school where they specialize.

    Tips for prospective students

Oregon State professors do a great job of reviewing material for exams, but cannot get to it all. It is imperative that students take learning into their own hands by reading texts books (assigned or not) and coming to class prepared to discuss and ask questions.

    In three sentences

Oregon State University is a true leader in education, the hire staff that are both knowledgeable and helpful. The campus is beautiful and offers many resources to students including tutoring, a food pantry, and opportunities to study abroad. I highly recommend applying and visiting.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is my favorite part of campus. Since it is a small school, I feel safe walking the streets alone at night because of the emergency poles scattered all over campus and how close the police station is. I always feel safe at Oregon State.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities here are also focused mostly on science and engineers. It's very rare that a social club such as Gay Pride group or even the Communications Club are highly represented because they come off as dull or unnecessary to most students here. It makes it harder for students in liberal arts to get involved or represented because of how much we're looked down upon.

Great for these types of students

This is where my answers get tricky. I love Oregon State, but as far as my curriculum goes, I don't enjoy it very much. This is the type of school for science and engineers, not liberal arts students. Sometimes, it's truly unfair of the special treatment science field majors get that we don't. So, if you're into science, attend Oregon State. If not, I do not suggest attending here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

My group of friends have the tradition of going to a yogurt hot spot called Yogurt Extreme during football game days. Since everyone else enjoys going to bars for that sort of thing, Yogurt Extreme doesn't get crazy packed with people. Only a significant amount go there and it gets pretty intense depending on the game.

    What to do for fun

Since Corvallis is very small, finding the right group of friends is vital when wanting to do something fun. People that share common interests often find it fun spending time with them more fun than wondering around trying to find something fun to do in this small college town.

    Food and Dining

The food in the dining halls here at Oregon State are amazing. Eating here, I hardly ever missed my Mom's cooking, and without having to spend my entire savings, too. The dining halls were probably my favorite part of any campus eating areas.

    Dorm Life

Everyone should experience the dorm life no matter where they go, at any time in their college years. At Oregon State, I got to meet tons of students from all over the world that lived in the same building as I did. Often, my dorm would have small get togethers and help every neighbor get to know each other. It's an interesting experience and everyone should give it a chance at least their freshman year.

    Academic Rigor

If you are in any sort of liberal arts field, the academic rigor is not too tough. Advisors will tell you what path to take and have you go from there. If you are in any science fields, however, the rigor is tougher. I would know nothing about that because I am a communications major.

    Tips for prospective students

No matter what your major is, consider taking a dance class. Not only is the dance association here at Oregon State amazing, but in a dance class you'll find opportunity to meet new people, loosen up while learning to dance, and have fun all at the same time.

    In three sentences

Oregon State is perfect if you love rural areas and science. The small college town makes it easy to make friends and take walks through fresh-aired, beautiful grass fields. This school is perfect for you if you wish to pursue a career in science or technology.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe on campus. There is an adequate amount of patrols to keep students safe and plenty of resources to protect your material and physical well-being.

    Greek Life

Oregon State University has the largest Greek Row in the state. This means there are plenty of fraternities and sororities to choose from. Most likely you will find one to fit your needs.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for anything. And if it doesn't exist yet, it is fairly easy to get it going.

Great for these types of students

The location is great for people who enjoy being active and outdoorsy. The University is very strong for engineering and agricultural students.

    Bang for the buck

Being a state school, it is more affordable than a private school. But it is still suffering from tuition hikes. And housing costs are, in my opinion, ridiculously high.

    What to do for fun

Corvallis is very out-doors friendly (if you don't mind the rain) with plenty of hiking and biking trails. The city of Newport on the Oregon coast is only an hour away and makes a great day-trip. Beyond that, there are many student organizations that put on fun events.

    Food and Dining

In choosing the cooperative house, I get to enjoy food cooked by our own hired chef. This places my rating higher since I get a larger variety of food than a student utilizing the dorm dining centers. They have good food, but not a large amount of variety.

    Dorm Life

I chose an on-campus cooperative house. It's very tight in terms of privacy, but the house is very good about putting together social events and creating a community feel among residents.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor is mostly up to the student. There are plenty of opportunities to push your studies further. But I feel the minimum can be set a bit low.

    Tips for prospective students

Register early. You don't want to get caught without financial aid. And it goes fast.

    Campus Safety

The town might not be the safest but the campus is, we have police alerting buttons on every other street corner, and yes some strict rules but they are there to keep us safe. there are monthly safety alert messages emailed to all the students, and when something does happen everyone is informed.

    Greek Life

I believe there are about 6 fraternities and possibly 7 sororities. But they put on the parties and main events every Friday and weekend.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a billion and 1 clubs, and if you cant find what you ant to join, make it, there are over 50,000 students here, someone will join your club.

Great for these types of students

party people, night owls, group studiers, weirdos in general, and foreigners fit in nicely.

    Bang for the buck

If you can find a generous amount f funding this is an amazing place to go to school. This campus is a tiny community all in its own. But it is expensive, so if the funds aren't coming your way, then you can always find just about everything this school offers in other towns, just not as compact. So bang for the buck? Meh.

    What to do for fun

There are a trillion things to do here. hundreds of cafes to hang out in with friends, frat parties every Friday night and the home games are supported by the entire town. The gym is always open on campus so you can go for swims, relax in the Jacuzzi, climb the rock walls, play sports, or just work out.

    Food and Dining

Honestly the food is way over priced, so I recommend making a majority of your own meals. but when you do eat out at the schools restaurants you use your meal plan and it comes included with tuition. The food available is decent, I would say they could do better. all in all it's alright.

    Dorm Life

Wilson hall is where I'm staying and it seems that everyone here is friends and there are mini floor parties and always an event being put on downstairs in the main lounge. quiet hours are respected and the rooms are small but give a generous amount of space when your bed is lifted high up. closets are huge and the halls and bathroom are cleaned every day. all in all I love it here.

    Academic Rigor

depending on what you take the classes can be overwhelming to easy as pie. a good balance of the 2 can make a perfect semester.

    Tips for prospective students

My best tip is stay involved but learn to say no, and keep up in your studies.

    In three sentences

This school is super engaging. There is always something going on, so there is never a dull moment. And the campus is absolutely breath taking.

    What to do for fun

I am an avid reader and enjoy spending time with my family. We enjoy anything outdoors and spend a lot of time camping during the summer. During the fall we go mushroom hunting and my oldest son, who is in cubscouts, has become quite the mycology expert.

    Food and Dining

I live on my own with my family and do not have firsthand experience regarding their food and dining on campus

    Dorm Life

I live on my own with my family and do not have firsthand experience regarding dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are definitely more challenging than at the community college I attended. I have been impressed by the professors and the types of challenging, out of the box assignments that I have been provided thus far.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest making sure that you apply for admission as soon as you know you are graduating if you are a transfer student. It really makes sure that you get the most money from financial aid.

    In three sentences

When I began looking for colleges to transfer to, OSU definitely rose above the rest in regards to their stellar customer service. They quickly responded to my inquiries and provided detailed information on courses/curriculum that would transfer as well as providing me quick answers. I have not been disappointed in my decision to attend this college and really appreciate the staff and my advisor.

    Campus Safety

A very safe campus. The campus has its own police force, and a few State Troopers, make their rounds due to the nuclear reactor on site (for nuclear engineering class). There are emergency telephones on almost every corner. In reality, the most you have to worry about is if you get a kleptomaniac for a roommate. Past that possibility, you and your belongings are safe.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many oppurtunites everywhere with everyone! You can find Pokemon nights to flag football, and anything in between.

Great for these types of students

-Granola students who have an affinity for love -Anyone pursuing a degree in science, engineering, or agriculture

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus has a student-run radio station (KBVR)

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is very reasonable for such a good university with so much to do. Plus, scholarship and grant opportunities are very abundant.

    What to do for fun

-Clubs and cafes nearby have local bands playing every week -The campus has a rec center with a gym, swimming pool, yoga room, martial arts training, weight training room, rock climbing room, and an indoor track -There is a bowling alley/billiards room -Student clubs and sports are everywhere!

    Food and Dining

You can get a food card for on-campus cafes included in your tuition if you need it. There are also great cafes and restaurants just a block or two away from the campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorms and Co-Op houses are really great. You're bound to make tons of friends immediately. They're also very safe.

    Academic Rigor

There are colleges and courses for almost any study you could be interested in. Also, the classes aren't usually lecture-based. Most are much more hands-on and in the field work.

    Tips for prospective students

-If you meet the criteria, definitely sign up for the Honors College -Try to apply for the Early Bird deadline if you're positive you want to attend here -As with any university, visit the campus before deciding 100% on going here

    In three sentences

Just an amazing university. There are opportunities for both education and social activities. The environment and beauty of the campus is enough to make you want to go there.

    Campus Safety

It's a very safe campus. There aren't many things going on, but there are safety 'boxes' with alarms and phones stationed at various points around campus. Overall, they do a good job of notifying people if anything comes up pertaining to safety!

    Greek Life

I'm not sure about the Greek life. I don't take part in it very often.

    Clubs and Activities

There's a large variety of clubs as well! There's anything from athletic clubs like running club and bowling to academic clubs like pre-vet medicine and dietetics club. It's a great way to meet new people!

Great for these types of students

This school is honestly great for all types of students. There's such a wide variety of people here! Transfers, international, local, sports oriented, academic oriented, and so much more!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are several annual traditions on campus here! The ones I've enjoyed most so far is the bonfire the night before our homecoming game and the first away game of the season. For that, everyone gets together and sits on the football field to watch it. It's a great community get together!

    Bang for the buck

There are so many free opportunities here! All of it is mashed up in your tuition bills so you get free recreation center uses, free rentals (or small fees) for certain equipment. You also get free medical examinations, free tutoring, and there are always events going on if you're wanting to get out!

    What to do for fun

Being in a smaller, outdoorsy town, there are many things to do if you're into camping, hiking, or biking! I've found that being in Oregon in general is great for these activities, though. Corvallis is literally in the middle of everything so there's a reasonable travel distance to the coast and its beaches, the mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and the highland deserts if you're into rock climbing!

    Food and Dining

Again, I'm not required to get dining points so I'm not sure how those work. There is a Fred Meyers relatively close to campus and several restaurants on the edges, though! The food is good and ranges from Panda Express to Carl's Jr. to McMinnnamins!.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately I didn't stay in these dorms (transfer student) so I have no advice on them.

    Academic Rigor

I think that it depends on the major you choose. All the undergraduate required classes (chemistry, calculus, writing) that you'd expect to have a lot of work in, do, in fact, require a lot of work. Just try to work out your schedule so that there's a good balance of fun and work classes!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to stay on top of emailing, calling, and meeting with advisers, financial aide, admissions, and registration! The process can get slow, and unless you're reminding them, they'll forget about you until last minute.

    In three sentences

I love Oregon State University! Their academics are extensive, and the people are (mostly) amazing! One thing that stands out to me, though, are the trees in the fall; they make this living on campus a fairytale experience.

Campus is very safe, especially since the community is mostly college students, and campus security is not only vigilant on campus, but is also forgiving to those freshman who may be a bit in over their heads.

    Greek Life

Greek life is huge here at Oregon State, and almost everyone finds themselves at a Greek house at one time or another. The Greek houses here are very diverse though, and not at all just those stereotypical Greek houses seen on television.

There are all kinds of traditions on campus, from the huge tailgating events that go on for the football games to huge Greek end of the year events.

    Bang for the buck

If your major is in Engineering or Exercise & Sports Science I know personally that you will get a great education and are really making use of the money that you put into this school.

There are intramural teams and sports that are constantly looking for people to join, and there are clubs and there is also Greek Life. There are so many things to do to get more involved.

    Food and Dining

There are many small restaurants right next to campus, and some small cafes as well as the dining halls on campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life here is great, and a lot of people move around in between them to find the perfect fit for their personalities.

    Academic Rigor

The Valley Library is open very late into the night and is open 24 hours Finals week and the week before. There are also many other places to study like Kelly Engineering building and the MU.

    Tips for prospective students

Come in and explore all of the different possibilities that are presented to you as a freshman, and don't be afraid to just talk to a random person on the street, as everyone here is very friendly.

    In three sentences

Oregon State University has a great campus with very friendly people. Majors at this school have a wide variety of possibilities ranging from Engineering to Exercise and Sports Science. I feel safe walking through campus at night. The main streets are always well lit.

    Clubs and Activities

130 clubs on campus that cover every topic, activity you can think of. Never a shortage of activities to do on campus there is literally always something going on.

    What to do for fun

Various clubs and plenty of area for playing sports. Monroe street is full of places to eat that is just off campus. Football games are extremely fun to go, as well as bowling, and countless other activities that are held throughout the year.

    Food and Dining

Depends where you go, there is never a shortage of food on campus and the food in the MU is delicious. The dining halls all have themes, so if you feel like Mexican food you would go to one dining place, but if you feel like Chinese there is a dinning hall for that.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is awesome, and based on majors, so you are around people that are similar to you and have the same classes for the most part. Always something to do and ways to get involved with the school.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the courses you take as well as the course load. Also the teachers make some classes harder than they need to be, while others hand out the good grades. Totally dependent on what you are studying. As an engineering student it hasn't been to bad so far.

    Tips for prospective students

Defiantly consider the school if you are looking at a science/technical major, they care deeply about these areas with undergraduate research available in some majors. Do not be put off by the rain season in Oregon, the education you get from the school is awesome.

    In three sentences

The professors are helpful, as long as you take initiative to approach them first. There is never nothing to do on campus with is abundance of clubs and various events. The nicest people you will ever meet are on this campus.

Blue emergency lights can be found all over campus. Because OSU hosts nuclear research, there's increased security with a State Police presence. Campus security hosts lectures and practices drills with students to increase awareness and response time.

    Greek Life

There's a great diversity in Greek Life. Aside from traditional social and academic ones with reputable national chapters, OSU has sprouted a number of independent fraternities to reflect the many diverse groups and interests of students.

    Clubs and Activities

More clubs and activities than stars. Ok, that's an over statement, but there's not enough time to participate in them all.

Great for these types of students

OSU focuses on science, technology and engineering.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of my favorite hang out spots is the Women's Building. I love to dance, and there's usually music flowing and a comfy couch to settle into.

    Bang for the buck

The more you participate and take advantage of the university setting, the more bang you shall receive for your buck. My favorite was joining KBVR to host my own radio and TV shows. Where else would you have access to professional equipment and work with software worth thousands of dollars?

    What to do for fun

There are a number of clubs, social and academic fraternities that hosts many activities with numerous volunteer opportunities too. The university hosts many lectures, concerts, and exhibits that are open to the public. All events can be found on the school's master calendar online or you can sign up with specific list servers.

    Food and Dining

There is food for any cuisine you might crave, and they are usually very delicious. The hours vary from each dining hall, so be sure to not miss them.

    Dorm Life

Each floor organizes activities, and it's a great way to meet new people and forge friendships. I would not recommend dorm life if you are a recluse.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, those papers and projects can really add up.

    Tips for prospective students

There are many opportunities for you to try out many things, and expand your horizons. For the numerous opportunities, there are just as many distraction, so stay focused.

    In three sentences

General education classes can be held in large auditoriums up to 300 strong, but class sizes do become smaller in more specialized fields, and recitations are around 30. Signing up for classes online are done in prioritized blocks, and the best time blocks (between 10-3) are taken up very quickly. The best part about the school are the many clubs, activities, and lectures to attend, and they are easily searched through the master calendar.

Great for these types of students

In state, outdoorsy, loves a classic campus feel, small town, athletic, hard worker, partier.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's a lot of beaver pride and spirit. On game days, people go nuts with spirit, it's amazing. There's also a lot of diversity, and many multicultural groups and events available on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely. Being in state, I am getting a lot for the price that I am paying here. Totally worth it.

    What to do for fun

If you having friends with cars or you're planning on bringing a car, that expands the amount of things you can do for fun, such as going to the movies, going shopping, going out to eat, etc...Of course these are available to those without cars, but it just makes things easier. On campus, you can always grab a group of people together and play volleyball at the dixon rec, or go rock climbing. There's a bowling alley at the MU that's open at nights for people to hang out in and bowl. Of course there are the frat parties, and house parties that are always available on weekends.

    Food and Dining

It's alright, there are days where the food is not very good, but there are also days where it can be good. The opening hours aren't great at Mcnary Dining, but I'll live. Of course, things are going to be overpriced there, but with a meal plan, it usually covers everything you need. I have a preferred meal plan, and I have a little bit of money left over that will roll into the next term, and I eat a majority of my meals in the dining hall so I think that plan was great for me.

    Dorm Life

Love it. Could not be happier that I chose to live in a dorm rather than off campus housing. I have made so many friends down my hall and when we have spare time, you can always find us hanging out in someone's room and having a blast. It has made my college experience 10x better and is part of the reason why I love OSU so much.

    Academic Rigor

It's alright, pretty easy, but being a freshman, I expect it to get harder as I go up in class standing. There are lectures with more than 400 students, so prepare for that, but it's not too bad. Of course, since it's a large university, there will be TA's teaching some of the classes, and those are hit or misses. You can expect some lousy teaching, but you can also expect some amazing teachers that will do anything to help you out.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely visit the campus, check out what kind of extracurriculars they offer, and take a look at the dorms. Make sure the price is in your range as well.

    In three sentences

Oregon State was my last choice of 5 colleges I applied to, but I am so extremely glad that I chose this school. I have made a vast amount of memories here just the first term, and I cannot wait to go back after winter break! The campus, people, and the overall atmosphere of OSU is welcoming, and I am really proud to call myself a beaver.

    Campus Safety

I feel extremely safe on the OSU campus. There are the lights located all over campus and when night falls, if you feel in danger or if someone near you is acting strange, you press the button and campus security will come immediately. Also, we happen to have a nuclear reactor on campus so there are state troopers on campus at all times. For even better security, there is a free system called Safe Ride that you can call if you don't feel safe and need a ride somewhere.

    Clubs and Activities

Pre-pharmacy Society is a great way to meet other students with your interests and of course the same major as you. I recommend joining some sort of club that relates to you, and while Pre-pharm Society is my go-to group, reach out and experience new things that interest you.

Great for these types of students

For all you students spending plenty of time in the library! Go downstairs to the first floor, and the cafe is absolutely wonderful. They make the best coffee.

    What to do for fun

There is not a ton to do in the city of corvallis, but there is the basic movies, bowling, restaurants, bars, and even 18+ years old clubs. As long as you make friends in dorms and classes, you will find many ways to have fun.d

    Food and Dining

I LOVE the food on campus. They have fast food, cafes, dining halls, and everything. I personally go to a cafe almost every day to get a coffee and bagel, because I have classes at eight in the morning. You will learn which cafe's have better food and coffee for better prices.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorms, but I have been in them and have friends who live in them. They are great for making friends and socializing. If you are coming from out of state or just do not know anyone here, dorms are a great option for getting involved. Also, you get what you pay for. If you pay for the cheap dorms, they are not as nice as the expensive dorms. Most people find a happy medium.

    Academic Rigor

I came in taking pretty rigorous classes my first term, and struggled throughout organic chemistry. I actually turned to a tutor, and it was absolutely worth it because I passed with a B+, and it is a very difficult course. Taking advantage of these services is a very useful tool for success.

    Tips for prospective students

Be willing to try different classes. I came in knowing that a pre-pharmacy major was right for me, but many students are not that certain. They have an exploratory option for a major, and I recommend looking into this because it offers an array of classes to help you decide what you are interested in. Also, don't forget your rain coat!

    In three sentences

I absolutely love Oregon State University and the variety of classes offered. The campus is gorgeous year round and while there is a lot of rain, it is important to keep in mind that it is Oregon and it is nothing an umbrella and a pair of rain boots can't fix! Overall, I would recommend OSU to any students that are interested in an area of study offered by Oregon State.

    What to do for fun

Are you kidding, in Oregon there are tons of outdoor activities throughout the state, especially dealing with National Parks and resources. And there's OSU Beaver sports! Go Beavs!

    Food and Dining

I have not sampled the dinning/food as an online student. However, I know it has to meet certain standards.

    Dorm Life

I'm rating it average as I'm an online student and cannot attest to dorm life. It is a subjective rating nonetheless.

    Academic Rigor

As I stipulated above. Ensure that you are ready to work hard in the math and sciences. It can be difficult for novices.

    Tips for prospective students

Know your math, chemistry and biology very well. This program is math, chemistry and biology intense and I don't mean at the high school honors level. Be very prepared to work hard, yet meet some of the best professors and staff available throughout the US.

    In three sentences

The Fisheries and Wildlife biology program staff are very enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable. They are eager to ensure that every student meets and excels in his/her intended field of study. From one blue light you can see another one. There is also safe ride operating after 7 p.m. so you can call them and get a ride to somewhere that you need to go.

    Greek Life

I recently joined a sorority and love being in greek life. The greek life at Oregon State is a very large population. We have 10 sororities and close to 20 fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of clubs on campus that you will find one you are interested in, and if you cannot find one that is fitting for you then you can start one. They also have intramural, club, and varsity sports. Intramural sports are for anyone that wants to be involves. Club sports you have to tryout for and they travel playing other college club teams. Varsity sports are the ones that you think of when you think of a college team.

Great for these types of students

Oregon State University is great for just about any student. If they have the major that you intend to be then it is a place that anyone will fit in at. The people that would be most attracted to it would be people going into engineering, agriculture, or forestry because they are top in the nation for these programs.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that Oregon State University provides us with a good education and many free services while we are attending the university. We have access to the gym as well as health trainers to help out with nutrition. There is also a medical service on campus if you need to see a doctor.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do around campus for fun. There are different clubs that people would have fun doing, there is two recreational centers with sports courts and rock climbing walls, there are intramural sports teams, and a bowling alley in the basement of a building on campus.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of options for dining and three dining halls. The dining is kind of expensive though, each meal is about $5.

    Dorm Life

It was a good experience, however you need to make sure that you apply for everything as soon as you can so you get to choose your dorm room early. The dorms all have very different costs to live in them and floor plans so this is also something to look into.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are very helpful and there are academic success centers on campus to help you do well in your classes. They are included in your tuition so they are free to go to.

    Tips for prospective students

A tip to future students would be to make sure that you are checking for what you can be involved in because it is pretty rare for them to come to you.

    In three sentences

Living in the dorms is pretty expensive and the size of each room depends on which hall you are staying in.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor depends on what classes you are taking, but OSU is a science and engineering school, so most of the classes are going to be difficult. However, there are a lot of opportunities to get help with class work and tutors are always available in the library.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and take your time filling out the application. Look into the different programs and degrees that are offered and don't feel pressured into declaring your major right away. You have plenty of time to explore different classes and declare a major.

    In three sentences

OSU is very welcoming of new students and they do a lot to make you feel welcome. They also have great science and engineering programs. OSU offers many opportunities to students, like studying abroad and being able to aid professors with research.

There's a blue light system around campus.. late at night if you feel unsafe just press one of those buttons and a policeman will come within a couple minutes. There are campus policemen during the day that monitor the community.

    Greek Life

I live on Greek Row.. if partying is your thing they've got you covered. It's impossible to go on campus without running into Greeks.. can't miss them in their snazzy logo shirts.

    Clubs and Activities

There's a club for EVERYTHING. The first few weeks of fall term there are Beaver fairs where you can learn more.

Apparently about 600+ people participate in Humans vs. Zombies around Halloween time. It's a week-long nerf war. You'll be walking to class and see darts all over the ground. Haha there was even one stuck to the ceiling of the International Building.

    Bang for the buck

I've talked to several people who've gone to community college before OSU. Although it's cheaper, it takes just as long if not longer to complete your degree going that route. You still have to start at the beginning with your major specific classes. Plus you miss out on the freshman experience! Oregon State is competitively priced, and with scholarships it is completely possible to attend.

    What to do for fun

Wednesday nights the OSU dance club puts on community lessons for free in the Women's Building. Highly recommend you check it out. IM sports have also been a really fun experience for me. When you need a break from studying, Dixon Rec has hot tubs and saunas.. absolutely free for students.

    Food and Dining

Mmmm! If I could afford it, I'd get food on-campus every day! Burgers, Asian Food, Mexican Food, Salads, Coffee.. what more could you want?

    Dorm Life

I personally can't rate dorm life - I live in an awesome Christian co-op house off-campus. If you have the opportunity I recommend living in a co-op. They are cleaner, way cheaper, and it's like having a big family. I stayed in McNary for START, and the dorm walls were paper-thin.

    Academic Rigor

OSU wants you to actually learn the material and be able to apply it to your life, not just memorize info for tests.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry if you don't get the grades you received in high school. Many assignments are papers, and therefore mostly depend on your professors' personal opinions. Use ratemyprofessor.com!!! You will thank me later.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

Campus is creepy at night and very dark. They have implemented new alarm buttons every so many feet, but if someone is chasing you and you hit it, you are standing there waiting for an officer to show up.. Not sure how this saves you from an attacker.

    Clubs and Activities

I have yet to really find my niche an not sure how students get the time to! But mind you, this is comming from an older student.

Great for these types of students

Here's a weird thing: No shave November...

    Bang for the buck

For what you pay, I have a hard time saying I get the most bang for my buck. Parking is horrible, fees are outrageous, and my grants have been cut so I am definitely feeling a hardship attending OSU.

    What to do for fun

OSU offers many sport programs, fitness programs, and extra curricular involvement. The Memorial Union building comes equipped with an arcade and bowling alley in the basement (awesome!). In the warmer months you will notice a lot of outdoor events happening from battle of the bands to something ridiculous, like surfing a wave. They always come up with something!

    Food and Dining

Before I found the dining hall (my whole first year of college), I was so burnt out on the local food choices. I was really wondering at that point how everyone survived. But then I bumped into West Dining Hall and fell in love with all the food choices they offer and discount goodies!

    Dorm Life

As a single mother who lives off campus, I cannot say too much on the experience or financial end of the dorm life. I have noticed however, the nicest place on campus is the International housing; by far superior and fine standard of living if you ask me. (jealous!)

    Academic Rigor

I am constantly challenged, earning my grades has come through sweat and tears for sure.

    Tips for prospective students

Finding what you need is not always easy at OSU, you have to dig deep and search everywhere and sometimes it seems you will find a whole nest of goodies you never knew about!

    In three sentences

OSU is fast and adaptive, which you learn to appreciate as education rapidly evolves. Though very expensive, I am pushed to excel or be left in the dust. I am continuously motivated by a strong intellectual environment and student body plus I have found many many forms of help with different programs and student groups.

Join clubs, be active, explore Corvallis, go hiking at Bald Hill, and just enjoy being free.

I enjoy the food at Oregon State. There are tons of cafes all around campus, so it easy to always find something. My one complaint with the dining services is that the restaurants tend to close early.

    Dorm Life

I have met so many people by living in the dorms that I would have never met if I hadn't lived on campus. There are always activities and fun events going on. You get the feeling of being a part of a giant family, which is a special thing.

    Academic Rigor

I am a biology major, so I am constantly in math and science-oriented classes and from what I have experienced the instructors truly care how you do in the class. They want you to understand the material and be involved with the subject. Even though the classes may be tricky, there is always help available.

    Tips for prospective students

Oregon State University is an exciting school to be at, especially if you are interested in student life. What to do for fun

There is not a lot provided to do for fun. Obviously, you can hang out with friends and join clubs all over campus. One specific thing I enjoy is the on-campus bowling alley which is very cheap to go to & has a lot of new people you can meet.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is excellent. Food options are all over campus, but specifically there are always a food hall right outside of the dormitories. This is great for dorm residents who don't want to walk far to get dinner. It is very convenient at a low price.

    Dorm Life

I'm not too sure on this one actually. The city is pretty small, so you're pretty much limited to campus events. The recreation center/gym is huge and always available for renting equipment, and there is also some sort of 'after-dark' event there one friday a month.

    Food and Dining

I rarely eat on campus, so I can't really say whether the food is good or bad in the dining halls. there seem to be a lot of places to eat all over campus, so there's plenty variety to choose from all within a short walking distance. I've only ever eaten from the cafes, which serve expensive, but healthy and usually decent snacks and foods. Coffee on campus is utterly awful, though. There are healthy options and vegan/vegetarian options all over campus.

I had a fairly bad experience with my first roommate, but then I changed rooms to live with a new friend I made, and it went so much more smoothly and things were a lot more fun. Dorms can be loud, so keep in mind not everyone living in the dorm will follow the rules.

    Academic Rigor

This depends on your major, but I think overall it's in the middle range, unless you are going into engineering, in which case that is very difficult, I think at Oregon State academic rigor is as hard as you want to make it. There is a want to achieve on campus, but if you just want to skate by you should pick an easy major.

    Tips for prospective students

Join a club or find an activity that interests you. It's a great way to meet people, which is very important no matter how many friends you have coming to college with you. Don't be afraid to join a club or a class that by yourself, you can meet some amazing people.

    In three sentences

Oregon State is a beautiful campus with an immense amount of opportunities. This is a very science and business oriented school, however it also has a great design program as well as plenty of other majors. There are clubs and activities for nearly everything!

    Campus Safety

The campus is pretty safe. We also have a lot to provide when it comes to going home safe such as safe ride which is a free ride the school provides so you can get home safely, and there's also emergency poles that you can click if you need help right away for any reason. Not to mention there's a police station right on campus.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life is awesome! I am actually apart of the Greek Life and I love it. I never have anything to do and I got to meet a lot of new people. The Greek Life is definitely somewhere you would want to get involved with to have a great time, meet new people, and get plenty of social skills. It's something I'd recommend to those who are new here at Oregon State.

    Clubs and Activities

I am not all aware of all the clubs but I do know there are a lot at Dixon (School gym) such as karate, weight training, swimming club and more. And for activities there's dancing, soccer, basketball, etc. I am sure with a little more research I'd be able to name so many more.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for any type of student. You like a quiet place? We have a place for that. You like to party? There's a place for that. You like ladies? We have that. You like to try new things? You can here. This school overall has every type of person you can think of.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A really weird tradition is what the people do here on Halloween. They play some zombie game around the whole campus where there's the normal people and the zombies. If a zombies touches you, you are now a zombie and to kill the zombies you shoot them with nurf guns.

    Bang for the buck

I am not sure what you mean by Bang for the buck but I am guessing you mean what's something fun or entertaining to do for a few dollars. In that case I'd say the street Monroe is the best to spend a few bucks at. There's food joints like Domino's, Subway, Chipotle and more.

    What to do for fun

For fun there are many things to do, you can go to a small lake near by, Dixon which is a huge gym with basketball courts, pool, weights and more, parties you can go to, big fields, hanging out with friends, and hitting on some ladies!

    Food and Dining

In my opinion the food is pretty good. Even though it is good EVERYTHING is way overpriced. It's so expensive that they are just taking advantage of students, on top of tuition and the dorm being so expensive is it really necessary to make the food that expensive?

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a great way to meet new people but so is the Greek life. Being in a dorm does have its down fall by having all these rules and quiet times but it can also be helpful when it comes to keeping you on track. Be sure to switch rooms if you and your roommate don't get along.

    Academic Rigor

For academic rigor it is definitely tough if you don't stay on track or study but it is manageable if you do. The courses here for the most part are also interesting and there is always withdrawing a class if it's to tough or you don't enjoy it.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for students, have a good idea on what you want to major in. STUDY for every midterm and final. If you believe you are gonna fail a class you can SU it which means it will not affect your GPA.

    In three sentences

Oregon State is a great school but needs some improvement here and there. Especially when it comes to financial aid. They don't disburse it correctly.

On campus, there are always several events going on and there are multiple intramural fields to play on. Off campus fun depends on access to a car; however, the bus system is free!

    Food and Dining

    I enjoy on-campus dining.

    Dorm Life

The convenience to classes is great and the dorms are maintained well.

    Academic Rigor

    Most courses are challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

OSU is known for its engineering program. Prospective engineering students are encouraged to look into this school. Also there are many majors and minors to choose from, so don't feel discouraged if it is difficult to decide on a major immediately.
