    Great for these types of students

    PLNU provides a challenging, but not overwhelming, curriculum. You will do just fine if you study hard, try your best, and take time to have fun! If you like having a good time, meeting new people, and studying in an encouraging and God-loving environment, then PLNU is the school for you!
    Tips for prospective students

    The school is expensive, since it is a private school, but the Student Financial Services (SFS) department provides great service to help students afford their costs for tuition and fees. SFS provides several scholarships and grants and information for you to apply for various local and state scholarships and grants as well. The school also has connections with Tuition Management Systems (TMS), which allows you to pay your bill in smaller monthly payments.

    The professors are encouraging and supportive of student goals, and the social atmosphere is very inviting and open to hearing the opinions and ideas of others. I love my classes, the retreats, and the chance to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain once a year! I love PLNU!
    Am learning a lot

    The school has a great academic atmosphere. Because of the policy prohibiting drugs or alcohol on campus, students can focus on learning and enjoy their studies in a healthy environment. The school provides great opportunities for extra-curricular education through various presentations of community speakers, authors, and other professionals.

    Great for these types of students

    PLNU is great for students who are interested in the field of nursing. This is a very popular program here because it's one of the best programs around. Plus, many of the nursing students who go to PLNU get accepted to nursing school. This university is great for students who are followers of Christ and want to build a stronger faith. If you are a beach goer, then this is the place for you! We have our own private part of Sunset Cliffs, and Ocean Beach is not that far away! This also goes for all you surfers out there! Hope this helps! :)
    Tips for prospective students

    Ok, so here are some tips for you prospective students: 1. Do your best in high school, specifically your senior year! Don't slack off and say you have the case of senioritis cuz guess what? That's not gonna cut it in college. You can kiss that A goodbye! 2. Talk to your counselor. I know you might be a little intimidated, but trust me on this one. I always touched bases with my counselor in high school. And don't ever EVER think you're counselor doesn't care because they do! They want you to succeed in high school. 3. Scholarships, scholarships, SCHOLARSHIPS!!! I can't stress this tip enough. This will be the most tiring, grueling part of getting into college, but you need to work at it. Cappex is a very good scholarship website to look at as well as many others. If you don't have crazy good writing skills don't worry--there are other scholarships for music, art, pretty much anything. You just have to look. No procrastination allowed! 4. Pick what college suits you. You'll be spending 4 or more years at that college so choose wisely. These questions should come to mind: Rural or urban? Cost? Religion? etc. 5. Do your homework. This kind of homework won't be graded of course. This is what I did, and it was the smartest thing I've ever done. I wrote all the colleges down on a piece of paper and researched them. When I came to my top 10, I put them on a tri-fold poster board, wrote them on a piece of paper, and wrote down the cost of tuition, how many people were there, for me, if it was a Christian university, etc. Then I narrowed it down from there. 6. DON'T BE LAZY!!! I'm sure you're either on Facebook or Youtube, probably on that right now as you're reading this. You're already on the internet. Google some colleges that interest you as well as scholarships! Even if you're a freshman in high school, it's never to early to start researching. The earlier the better!

    This school is definitely worth the money. Although it is a bit on the expensive side, I know this school has a lot more to offer than other schools around San Diego that I had previously looked at. And trust me, I looked at A LOT! When you show your parents how much this school costs to attend, you're parents might have a heart attack like my mom almost did. BUT DON'T WORRY!!! There are always options! Scholarships, grants, and loans. Well...hopefully not loans, but you get the idea. I knew right away I wanted to come here. You should be able to go wherever you want to go. After all, you're paying for it...or you parents are...Don't let money hold you back. I didn't, and look where I am now!

    One of the reasons why I chose to attend PLNU was because of the beautiful view. If this is one of your top choices or 1st choice (like mine was during high school), and you haven't visited the campus yet, I highly advise you do. If somehow you can't make a visit (which you REALLY should) then Google this university. It is simply gorgeous! We are right next to the beach, and I'm not just saying that! Another reason why I love being here is that it definitely makes your faith so much stronger! The scenery makes you marvel at the beauty that has been created for you and creates this sense of peace within you that I can't even explain! Also, everyone-and I mean EVERYONE- here is super nice! Guys open doors, students you don't even know give you a warm greeting, professors genuinely ask how you're doing. It's just a great atmosphere!
    Am learning a lot

    PLNU has the best professors who enjoy working with students. This university is different in its priorities in that one of their main goals is to make sure every student graduates within 4 years. The really cool thing is that the professors are really nice people! I'm a freshman, and during my first few weeks, I was too terrified to talk to my professors. The thing I like most about the professors here at PLNU is that they will take the time to sit and chat with you after class, whether it's walking with you to your next class, to chapel, or even to lunch. They understand you have a lot on your plate, so they do everything in their willpower to make sure you are learning as much and to the best of your ability as you possibly can.

    If you like the idea of a small school with a close and loving community, take a close look at Point Loma. Also, if you love the beach, you can't go wrong. Finally, but most importantly, if you have a love for the Lord and want to be challenged in your relationship with Him, Point Loma is a great place for that and should be at the top of your list.
    Tips for prospective students

    Visit the campus and set up an interview in which you plan to dress to impress. Also, actually read through Point Loma's covenant agreement which you have to sign in order to even apply to the school. It contains all of the school's policies about drinking/drugs, weapons, premarital sex on campus, class attendance, chapel attendance and student conduct in general. Read through it and make sure you are capable of and willing to play by the rules. Finally, don't go into college thinking that everything is going to be perfect and easy at Point Loma becuase it's a small Christian school, every school has it's flaws and has at least a handful of kids some refer to as bad seeds. The staff of Point Loma does their best to make the university fun, educational and enjoyable for all of their students so don't be too hard on them and remember to be thankful for all of the amazing things the school has to offer.

    Point Loma is not a cheap school by any means, but everyone I know at school has received generous amounts of financial aid. The student financial services are also easily accessible and available on campus and they are always willing to answer questions or help students find scholarships or other ways to pay for school. Furthermore, the education, friends and fun one gains by attending Point Loma are priceless.

    Point Loma is neatly nestled on the beautiful Sunset Cliffs of San Diego. I have a wonderful ocean view from my room and can feel and smell the ocean breeze everyday. The community is also very tight knit. I live with 26 girls on one hall and we are all close, no cattiness. There are all kinds of opportunities to get involved on campus and I have made life long friends by taking advantage of these opportunities.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors at Point Loma are very loving and are willing to work with students individually if they are struggling. It's very possible for them to do this because there are so few students at Point Loma when compared to other universities. Each student is also assigned an academic advisor who helps with schedule planning and they do a great job of making sure students are learning at their highest capacity without overwhelming themselves. Furthermore, i feel that Point Loma is a very safe place to make the transition from living with parents or guardians to living on your own and making your own choices. There are plenty of ways to seek out advice and wise council on campus and you will learn a lot about yourself and the person you want to be while attending Point Loma.

    Point Loma Nazarene University is great for students who are looking for a small, conservative, Christian atmosphere in which community is important. If you love the beach and adventure then PLNU is perfect for you as well. Also, Point Loma is very focused on school so if you are looking to go to more schooling after a 4-year degree (medical, dental, or any graduate schools) then this university is great for you because they push you to succeed. Overall this is an amazing school that is perfect for beach-going, God-loving and academically-focused students.
    Tips for prospective students

    1. Get involved. Point Loma offers many different ministries, clubs, intramural sports and groups that will allow students to find their way into their own little niche in Point Loma. I saw too many girls in my dorm hall not get involved and their year was not as exciting as they hoped. This year I got involved in Ministries with Mexico, an outreach ministry that travels to Mexico to help the people there through construction, medical attending and mentoring. During my spring break trip I went with a group of students to help build a church and pastor's house for a pastor in Rosarito. Not only was this trip a great experience that allowed me to help others and learn a lot about construction, but during that trip I created several close friendships that are now a large part of my life. Had I not gone outside my comfort zone and gone on that trip I would have never met those people and experienced a week full of love, hard work and joy. 2. Learn how you study best. Up until college I had just gotten by in school. I thought that studying meant doing the study guide or simply studying the night before yet little did I know, but college was completely different. Each class has its own best way of studying yet being able to identify that as soon as you can, will help you tremendously throughout the class. 3. Understand balancing your time. Although studying is extremely important and the entire reason you are in college (to get an education), having a social life is extremely important because it helps you stay sane. Friends are there to support you when it gets tough and honestly sometimes you just need to get out. 4. Branch out. Talk to the people on your hall and get to know them even if you think you usually would not hang out with someone like that, still go out and make the effort because people will surprise you. 5. Be honest with your roommate. If you have a problem, tell him or her because it makes it so much easier to live with them. But make sure that you pick your battles. 6. Take advantage of the good weather while you can. The gorgeous days to go to the beach will not always last and you will definitely miss it. 7. Look up scholarships and apply for as many as possible. PLNU is expensive and you’ll need all the help you can get. 8. Take time to look at all your perspective schools in order to truly make a decision that works for you. Ask a lot of questions during tours because nothing is worse than getting somewhere and realizing it's not what you wanted.

    Although the tuition is pricey it is completely worth it. Compared to many other private Christian schools, it is the same price and even cheaper, and honestly no one could have a better view than the one at Point Loma. The cafeteria overlooks the ocean and many of the dorms have an ocean view as well. The smaller class size and overall enrollment of student body allows you to get the classes that you want when you want them so that you can stay on track and graduation on time. With the impact of classes at several public schools it is extremely difficult to take the classes necessary to graduate therefore students end up staying for over four years, which in the end adds up and can total the same as many private schools (graduating in 4 years) depending on which school you attend. Also, Point Loma is extremely generous in giving away scholarship money and a large percentage of the students attending have some sort of financial aid.

    I love the atmosphere at Point Loma and being next to the beach and so close to downtown San Diego along with other fun areas in San Diego definitely has its perks. Going surfing between classes is not uncommon and the weekends are full of adventure and fun. It seems there is something for everyone at Loma, and whatever scene you are looking for you can find it. Whether you are a surfer, athlete, bookworm, drama kid, outdoorsman, artist or whatever, Loma has what you need and will want. The community aspect at PLNU is very strong and extremely easy to get involved with if you simply sign up for any ministry, intramural or extra-curricular. Due to the small size you get to know the people in your major very well, which is nice because those are the people you go to when you are stressed because they understand the situation you are in. The only drawback at PLNU are the strict rules, which can feel extremely limiting at times. Yet despite the fact that I resented these rules during the beginning of the year I soon learned that these guidelines helped kept me on track and kept my grades up.
    Am learning a lot

    Point Loma strives to help you succeed in all areas of your academic life. Unlike many larger public schools, PLNU's small and intimate class size allows students to engage in the the classroom activity and ask questions, thus letting the student learn to his or her full potential. I have several friends at UC schools and although they are very prestigious schools with great academic history, these bright students are having a tough time in class simply due to the fact that it is impossible to ask questions or engage in discussion with professors and classmates about the material being taught since the class sizes are in the hundreds. With PLNU's attendance policy, it urges students to attend class and therefore helps them succeed. During my first year of college I learned not only subjects such as Biology, Chemistry and Psychology but I also learned how to study correctly, how to balance my time and how to truly get involved and deal with living with 30 other girls peacefully.

    This University is great for students who like to apply themselves, who like to get to know their peers and professors, but most importantly want to live a life that conveys the love that Christ has for all of us. For students who are looking for a freshman year full of partying, Point Loma is not for them, because of the rules against such acts. However, this atmosphere really provides a place for safe learning and unbelievable amount of growth in one's faith and personal life.
    Tips for prospective students

    Come visit Point Loma. Contact the Admissions Office, and schedule a night to stay in a dorm. Get to know the amazing community that makes Point Loma great, and what a better way to do this than by being part of the community itself. Point Loma may seem strict at first glance, but it really is set up to give one freedom. Check it out before making any judgements.

    Point Loma is yes pricey; however, the low class ratios, beautiful campus, and even more compelling community makes up for the tuition. There are many scholarships that one can apply for. The Student Financial Services (SFS) is great. They are very friendly, and will work with students to find grants, scholarships, and loans that will make Point Loma more affordable.

    I could not have imagined a better place for me to be at! I love everything about Point Loma, and no I am not just talking about the view. Point Loma is located right on the beach, and is a short five minute walk to the cliffs. However, this is not the thing I love the most at Point Loma. The most appealing aspect at Point Loma is its community. The community and fellowship at Point Loma is absolutely amazing. The people there are so genuine. For the most part everyone is there because they choose to be, meaning they do not choose to drink or smoke, but instead choose to have fun by talking to friends, or having a beach day, or just watching movies together. Point Loma's community is indescribable. Anyone who walks onto Point Loma offers.
    Am learning a lot

    Point Loma has one of the best atmospheres that enhances one's learning. The class ratios are low, and the professors want the best for you. There is no doubt that the administrators, faculty, and professors want you to grow not only academically, but also spiritually and even vocationally. Point Loma fosters an environment where one can grow in all three fields, as long as one applies themselves. The courses are yes hard, because it is college. However, there are tools that are provided to easily learn and help get great grades. Professors make themselves available almost anytime one needs them. I even went to a couple of my professors homes my freshman year. The tutorial center is open during the day for free tutoring. Overall, Point Loma offers everyone something that they can really enjoy and excel at, as long as one puts the effort into it.

    Tips for prospective students

    Apply for the Cal-Grant early, as well as completing your FAFSA before the end of February. March is the date when a lot of scholarships require you have your FAFSA completed in order to be recognized which includes the Cal-Grant. I missed the Cal-Grant this year because I was a week late on completing my FAFSA.
    Bang for the buck

    I wish the tuition wasn't so expensive, but you definitely will get your money's worth IF you work hard. Be prepared to work harder then you have at the community college level.

    The community of living in a Christian environment is like nothing else. There is always someone here to encourage you. If you are a surfer the beach is literally a walk down the road. There is a rec room in the cafeteria and even rec rooms in the dorm halls. You really don't even have to leave campus to have a good time if you don't want to.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors here are super awesome. Especially in my department (Theology and Christian Ministry), most of the professors have PhD's and are active members in the church's in the area. Two of the professor's in the Christian Ministry department are senior pastors of local church's. Whether you are in the biology department or the nursing program, the staff are highly trained and have a passion for teaching.

    Campus Safety

    Our campus is closed off to the public, except for those driving through to surf or enjoy the beautiful view on Sunset Cliffs. Don't worry, they have to pass through Public Safety first! I honestly feel so safe here, even walking back to my dorm from the library by myself at 1 a.m. Is that normal...?
    Greek Life

    There is no Greek Life here. Sorry toga partiers!
    Clubs and Activities

    There are so many clubs, and I mean it when I say there is a place here for you. Intramural sports are really fun here and we have countless ministries, involving fun things like going downtown, going to Mexico, and surfing!
    Great for these types of students

    Nursing and Christian Ministries are really popular here. If you love to surf, this is the best campus to be on. And if you play the guitar/ukelele and can sing, Loma is the place for you.

    Our campus has the first greek amphitheater ever constructed in America; it's simply breathtaking. Also, we have America's most scenic ballpark! Loma is known for four things: hipsters, surfers, guitar-players and ring by spring. You'll learn more when you get here!

    For a private, Christian school, Loma is not expensive. Especially since you live right on the water in California! I feel what I pay for this school is worth my experience. I really love it here.
    What to do for fun

    Being right on the water, there is constant surf. Point Loma is great about events, including live music, dance parties, festivals, etc. Ocean Beach is right nearby, including shopping and restaurants, and of course, downtown San Diego.
    Food and Dining

    There is a main cafeteria, where the food is pretty good. A coffee shop, cafe and store on campus are the only other food options.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is fun. There are no co-ed dorms, with an upperclassmen exception. Most have ocean views, and are well-kept and clean. Loma is also really good about placing roommates. They are strict about visiting hours of the opposite sex. And no parties in the dorms. Sorry ladies and gents, dry campus!
    Academic Rigor

    The classes here aren't too hard, and the teachers are great. There are a lot of general education requirements, chapel is required, and classes from other schools don't transfer too easily, but overall, academic rigor is good.
    Tips for prospective students

    Loma offers interviews, which I encourage. You can enter an essay or creative piece when you apply, which is fun. Don't get lazy senior year and take easy classes and not study for your SATs and ACTs; Loma likes to see you are a hard worker.

You really get the best of it all here; mountains, downtown, the suburbs and the ocean.     There are so many things to do for fun in San Diego! The beach is just a walk down the cliffs from Young Hall where you can swim, surf and play at the beach.

    Attending college at Point Loma has been the best experience of my life up to this point. I have no only received a wonderful education so far, I have also learned more about myself and how to live in a small Christian community that encourages self-growth. The small class size and personal attention I receive from my professors is ideal and the view could not get any more beautiful!

    Public Safety does a great job of keeping everyone safe. I've never felt scared walking across campus even in the middle of the night.
    Great for these types of students

    I'm an art student, and the art department is phenomenal. The small classes and personal attention are much more like a graduate school experience than most undergraduate universities.

    The Prescott Prayer Chapel is really awesome for quiet reverie and prayer. I also really like the Greek Amphitheater to study and nap in when it's sunny.
    What to do for fun

    I go to Balboa Park a lot. The beach is really close if you enjoy swimming or surfing, and the antique shops in Ocean Beach never get old. Roofing is totally a thing. Burrito runs and frozen yogurt are also always popular.
    Food and Dining

    Not awful, but not great either. At least there's always salads and the sandwich bar if nothing else looks appetizing.
    Dorm Life

    I have met most of my close friends through living with them in the dorms. Most of the RAs are really friendly, and as mentioned above, I love the PLNU sense of community.

    Point Loma emphasizes academics more than sports, which I think is good for a university, but its general education classes are easy enough.
    Tips for prospective students

    The cafeteria makes much better food for visitors than for students. All the surfers live in Young Hall. Don't be afraid to ask questions; everyone here is really friendly.

    I love the sense of community and the small class sizes. Professors often engage students outside of class, and the campus is gorgeous. Definitely worth a visit.

    Point Loma is great for students who want a relaxed, Christian environment. Chapels are 3 times a week and Time-Outs on Wednesday nights count for chapel credit as well. Freshmen/Sophmores are required to attend 33/40 chapels and Juniors/Seniors 25/40.
    What to do for fun

    On-campus, there's the beach, the cliffs, and volleyball at Young Hall, sports games, the occasional Movie-in-the-Greek. Off-campus, San Diego offers tons of things to do. There's shows, museums and the zoo at Balboa Park, Sea World. Mission Beach is a student fave. The list goes on and on.
    Food and Dining

    The caf on campus is okay. Sometimes there are great dishes, but sometimes there's nothing good at all and you feel like you just wasted your meal, which costs about $8! The caf is open from 7am-7pm. There are also To-Go Lunches outside the caf on weekdays for students who need to get to class quickly or are heading off to the library. You can choose from wraps (so good!), pitas, etc, plus a piece of fruit; a parfait, veggie cup, or fruit cup; and water or soda. There is a cafe called the Point Break, where the food is pretty good, and it's connected to Bobby B's, which brews Starbuck's coffee and sells muffins and bagels, etc. There's also the Re-Store, which is an over-priced mini-market of junk food, some health food, and items similar to To-Go Lunches (sandwhiches, wraps, fruit cups, and yogurts and cheese sticks). The prices are steep, but if you have extra Sea Lion dollars/Point Break credits/whatver they're called now, this is the place to use them up.
    Dorm Life

    The great thing about Point Loma is the community spirit! My hall was very close and still is. We hung out all the time and had family dinner in the caf once a week. There are 7 dorms and an on-campus apartment complex. Most rooms are 2-person, but in some of the guy's dorms there are 3 to 4 person rooms. In Goodwin, a junior & senior dorm, there are singles, doubles, and thriples, and in Flex apartments, there are usually 5 people.
    Academic Rigor

    It depends on what classes you have, but some can be hard and some can be easy. If you want to just skate by with a B, then you don't have to work very hard in some of them, but if you want top grades, you have to work for them. There are plenty of resources to help you out. The profs will help you with any questions you have and there is a tutoring center as well.
    Tips for prospective students

    I would advise students to first make sure all of their financial aid is in order. Point Loma is not a cheap school and one mis-step can cost you. That being said, if you love the school, it is worth every penny!

    Although it's the only school that I have been to that was religiously influenced, I wasn't too fond of the fact that they have mandatory theology classes(about two total all four years if I am not mistaken) and church service attendances per month; but a rebuttal is that I-as stated before- have not been to another church influenced school so I would not know if this is too much or not.

    Definately bang for your buck if you can afford to go. The campus is B-E-A-Utiful. They've got great scenery, parking lots, and trashcans everywhere, talk about environmentally conscious!

    BEACH! Oh, and you know clubs, sports, community service projects, volunteer work, paid work on campus probably as well, and of course internships. From what I heard, on of the admission's counselors went on a yacht with his teacher since everyone there gets to know one another so well and the student to teacher ratio is low. So.... go on a yacht with your teacher!

    Very safe campus. There is only one entrance/exit with a 24 hour guard, so all activity is being monitored. Public Safety has everyone's number so they send out text messages to the staff and students for emergencies, and warnings. Pub Safety constantly drives around patrolling the campus.

    It's a very expensive college, but there are opportunities for academic scholarships as well as on campus jobs. I believe we have a better opportunity for learning with the dedicated teachers who are willing to help their students succeed, and the small class sizes.
    What to do for fun

    Located in San Diego, there are an endless amount of possibilites. With the ocean right at our fingertips, people can walk down the cliffs and enjoy a day in the sun, surfing, boogie boarding, kayaking or paddle boarding. We are right down the street from La Jolla, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and Mission beach as well. Belmont park is the closest thing we have to an amusement park and it's right next to the beach. Common things to do include burrito runs and acai bowls which are all conveniently located near us. Coronado is a short drive down the road as well as downtown San Diego. Other fun things to do include going to the mall, San Diego zoo, Birch aquarium, San Diego Safari Park and Sea World.
    Food and Dining

    There are only three options of food. The caf has the most choices from international, salad bar, cereal bar, pizza station, vegetarian, main entree, sandwich bar and the grill. There's also a coffee shop called Bobby B's that you can use your allotted meal plan money to buy pastries, fruit and coffee. Point Break Cafe is where you can spend your mealplan money as well and it has various types of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and breakfast items. The ReStore is a little grocery store on campus where individuals can pick up an assortment of food products.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is great. For the majority of the housing on campus, you will only have one roommate with the exception of the apartments and upperclassmen choices. What I believe is the best is that one type of housing doesn't cost more than others like other colleges. Housing is all the same cost and the variation is your meal plan. In the dorms, the RA plans hall events throughout the year, so that you will be constantly having fun amongst your studies. Being a Christian school, there are boy and girl dorms with specific time frames to visit the opposite sex.
    Academic Rigor

    Classes are all around fantastic for every major offered. Different majors are harder than others, but the teachers are helpful and try to challenge you to the best of your ability. Teachers base your grades off of more than just tests, so if you aren't the best test-taker, it doesn't matter. Unlike classes at other schools, teachers teach all the classes (not TA's) so you will be taught by a professional who knows what he/she are teaching.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you want to live by the ocean, be surrounded by friendly people and staff who are ready to know you in and outside of the classroom and want a Christian environment, this is the place for you. The small class sizes are fantastic as your professor knows who you are and is more than willing to help with any questions regarding school or personal life. If applying to this school, I highly recommend that you do an admissions interview, and once you get accepted to this school, keep retaking your SATs because you could qualify for an academic scholarship. One important thing to remember is that this is a Christian school so Bible class is a required GE, and chapel is required for all four years.

    There is a lot to do if you are willing to simply go and not sit in your dorm all day. My hall is always dong activities, there are tons of ministries that are easy to get involved in, there is swing dancing, intramural sports, yoga, school wide events (such as zombie apocalypse) and school retreats. You can go to the beach or the cliffs, cup of yo right down the street, beach volleyball, great escapes outdoor fun stuff (hiking, biking, trails, etc.) and the ARC that has bikes or surfboards to rent and pool tables, ping pong, and foosball.

    YES! It is expensive (but so is every college these days) but it is incredibly worth it. Your education is top-notch!! Aside from some great academics, you are paying for an incredibly view in a wonderful city. San Diego is full of lots of opportunities that will always come in handy. But you will get way more out of this experience in college other than a great education and a stellar job. Point Loma prepares students to be great people- you will come out of this school a well-rounded individual that will benefit others and mostly yourself.
    What to do for fun

    First word: Beach. The beach is a nice walk, swim, surf, enjoy, and hang out. There are often bon fires and other fun hangouts to attend. On campus, there's always something in the hall, whether its movie nights, or just a good talk, but there is also the recreational center where you can play fooseball, pool, table tennis, and even rent bikes, surf boards and lots of other cool stuff. Off campus, lots of us like to ride bicycles down to Ocean Beach (the bike ride offers a great view) where you can do some great thrifting, shopping, beach going, eating, and just hanging out. Aside from that, you could take the shuttle to Target, a Starbucks run, the mall, and even get downtown. There is always something to do!
    Food and Dining

    Not going to lie-the cafeteria is not the Cordon bleu of cafeterias, but its food. But we also have other options, Bobby B's (the coffee shop) is a place I spend a lot of time, as well as Point Break Cafe (like a sandwich shop) here, you can depend on some good food. If you are not satisfied with the food on campus, off campus is always an option, students often take the off campus shuttle to local places to eat such as Rubio's, Noodles and Company, Cup of Yo, Olive Garden, and there are plenty of great burrito options. In many cases, especially with girls, people will buy most of their food from the grocery store down the road and make meals in their own rooms, which works quite well.
    Dorm Life

    Just as most colleges, dorms are small and not necessarily modern. But no worries, there's a bed, desk, closet, and plenty of other accessories. They are a lot of fun to decorate and make a place all your own. Each hall has a residence assistant who is in charge of basically helping you through your first year as a freshman, and for later years, keep you in check. They come up with fun events and outings for your hall, and basically work to create a family. Now, a lot of it also depends on all the people working to create that family as well, either way, you are bound to find friends.
    Academic Rigor

    This is no Ivy Leaguer....but it has one of the top nursing programs, science courses excel, among many others.The professors here aren't going to just lecture, they want to get to know you and they LOVE it when you go to ask for more help on something. If you are struggling there is an awesome FREE tutoring center here, along with your hallmates, there is always someone who can help you with your homework. Here at Point Loma, general education courses are used to created a well-rounded person. These include english, writing, math, language, philosophy, sciences, and so many more. This may seem a little like high school again, however it is worth while. I am sometimes learning more in my general education courses I'm enrolled in now than I am in my basic science classes. But don't get me wrong...major courses are just as important if not more important.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get to know your professors, they care about you and want you to succeed here at Point Loma, often times they enjoy going to coffee or grabbing a bite to eat over conversation. Also, attend chapel/timeout, they put a requirement of a minimum attendance but chapel is a great time to simply not think about classes, to let out everything and give it all to God. Also, find what you love to do and engross yourself in it. The community here at PLNU is no lie, people here will support you and help you no matter what you choose to conquer.

    Bang for the buck

    Unless you are on scholarship(s) which can be very helpful and generous, this is a private university so price is to be considered when applying. There are also fines for skipping or violating things they encourage, like chapel.
    Food and Dining

    There are two main areas for dining and a small grocery stop below the cafeteria. The cafeteria is paid by one's meal plan and the bistro and sandwich shop is paid for by the corresponding amount of sea lion dollars which reset or can be changed every semester. The food quality starts off decent, but quality and variety go down as time passes. Off campus dining is great, there are a number of shops in Liberty station and countless mexican food stops.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life and rules for those with residency is very strict. One signs an agreement not to get involved in inappropriate activities. Freshmen living on campus do not have cars. The students and staff in charge occasionally provide students with activities, or encourage them to make their own. RA's are a big part of this. Most are also very responsive to trying to help students.
    Academic Rigor

    As far as challenging courses go, it's what you make of it. A hardworking student that chooses his or her classes thoughtfully is able to succeed. I have had an array of teachers from ones that seem decent to very passionate to ones that seem almost too passionate. Academically they range from quite manageable to challenging.
    Tips for prospective students

    Prospective students should have good GPA and SAT scores, but it's not highly competitive. They are more concerned with the combination of quality academics and your personal story. There are different scholarships one can qualify for.

    There is a pretty good selection of clubs, activities, and ministries to be part of. There obviously isn't as great a selection as you would get from a bigger school, but the selection is good for the size of the school.
    Great for these types of students

    Its a great fit for students that have at least a moderate interest in their faith, don't mind the chapel requirement, want a more casual environment, and like being pushed a little academically.

    PLNU has a Greek Theater which most colleges probably do not have.
    What to do for fun

    Freshman are not allowed to have cars, so most take an off-campus shuttle to the surrounding area. Old Town and several shopping centers are not far from campus. One of the shuttle's stops is Fashion Valley mall. The campus, along with access to the beach, has some activities as well.
    Food and Dining

    The food is decent but don't expect to love it. The variety is okay but you will probably get bored by the lack of selection as the year goes on.
    Dorm Life

    The rooms are a decent size and arrangement. The atmosphere of the dorm building itself however varies. Most halls tend to be louder in the evenings until quiet hours. The dorm I got assigned to however has a study lounge where things are generally quieter.
    Academic Rigor

    As a first-year biology student, my first year showed me where my school prepared or did not prepare me. While the science department building may not look very impressive, the professors have fairly high expectations and will push you.
    Tips for prospective students

    While it isn't difficult to get into this school as compared to more competitive schools, it is good to maintain a better GPA to get scholarships and have a better standing when starting at PLNU. As a Nazarene school, they will also prefer having Christian students.

    What to do for fun

    Point Loma Nazarene University has weekly on-campus events such as movie nights in the outdoors on Thursday nights where students can view fairly new movies with the view of the ocean still there. The dorms also offers students an opportunity to have fun with the rest of their dorm mates by setting up events such as volleyball tournaments on Saturdays with barbecue for lunch. Point Loma also provides students with weekly music performances by the students themselves along with refreshments and food.
    Food and Dining

    The food and dining in Point Loma University is exceptional especially since the dining area offers students a great variety of food ranging from breakfast food to dessert. The dining area offers a section of vegetarian foods for vegetarians and also offers catering services to those who need it. One of the greatest advantages of the dining area in Point Loma is the fact that it greatly resembles a buffet since it offers students all kinds of food.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm Life in Point Loma Nazarene University is equivalent to a confused stranger stepping into a small town, which means that students feel right at home after a week or two of adjusting from home. The students situated in the same hall are more than willing to invite all students to events and accompany them to on-campus performances. The students in every dorm are friendly and willing to help any one who needs the help. I was able to make a great amount of friends since everyone in my dorm are always willing to invite me to accompany them in school events and for lunch dates. I am grateful to be in the dorm I am in now.
    Academic Rigor

    The teachers of Point Loma urge students to read chapters the day before class begins by handing out surprise quizzes to students to make sure that the students are up to task and are not falling behind on the subjects. The teachers are also especially willing to help struggling students by devoting their office hours in meeting up with students to help the students better understand the lesson in which they are struggling with. The school even offers free tutoring for students who are struggling with a difficult subject so as to not allow students from falling behind in class.
    Tips for prospective students

    Students who are interested in further developing their spiritual growth as Christians along with gaining a well-rounded education are definitely going to find these factors in Point Loma Nazarene University. Students who are struggling with a subject in Point Loma Nazarene University should make the effort to seek help by applying to free tutoring sessions provided by older students.

    Point Loma Nazarene University offers an exceptional amount of education for students who not only wish to gain the knowledge necessary for their subject of interest but also teaches students the values they need to lead a healthy life. The teachers in this school look forward to investing students with a deeper sense of emotional and spiritual growth that is not found in public schools. The administration sincerely cares for the spiritual and emotional growth of their students as the students learn to grow up in a society where values are needed for students to be able to have a healthy lifestyle in the future while also enjoying the careers they are interested in.

    The campus at PLNU is gorgeous! It overlooks the California coast. Also the environment on campus is great! The students really seem to be enjoying their time there.

    It's a pretty tough school academically. However, you are prepared for your next step in life after you graduate and Point Loma is a very well respected school in Southern California.

    Get involved in a ministry, sports team, group, etc. Meet new people, everyone is very friendly and will talk to you. Talk to your professors and advisers as much as possible, become their friends, because they help you a lot with internships and job opportunities.

    Campus Safety

    The campus is located in a really nice suburban area, so crime isn't a big issue. However, since there is public property on campus, people are essentially free to come and go as the like until 12:00 am.
    Greek Life

    If you're looking for Greek life, than this isn't the place for you, as we have none.

    There are TONS of clubs to choose from if you're up for it, and if there's a club not represented you can always start it yourself.

    Students who desire a rigorous academic system. Those who enjoy small close knit environments. Those who are Christian, especially those affiliated with the Nazarene denomination.

    Apparently Cabrillo Hall is haunted by a ghost. Look it up, its a historical sight.
    Bang for the buck

    The campus is beautiful! We're located right next to the water, adjacent to a place called Sunset Cliffs (place to go to watch the sunset), so we get the same exact view. And if you're into surfing we have a really good surfing beach. Also the teachers are generally really good. They actually care about you and you learn a TON.
    What to do for fun

    There's tons to do (as long as you have a way to get there). Downtown is like ten minutes away and the night life there is really cool. Also since we're in San Diego there are beaches virtually everywhere, whether you're looking to surf, kick back and relax, or take a stroll on a boardwalk. There's also a good amount of historical significant sights around if you're interested in that.

    The food on campus isn't necessarily bad, its just extremely repetitive and there is only the cafeteria and the Point Break Cafe to get legitimate meals from. We do however have a Jamba Juice, coffee shop and small student grocery store. But if you have a car there are plenty of places that you can drive not too far to.
    Tips for prospective students

    Make sure you have a really good GPA and SATs because you can get good academic scholarship money from the school, that is relatively easy to maintain. Also come in with as many credits as you can because your priority for class registration will be much better.
