Pratt is a tough school, the professors push hard and the work load is crazy, but you learn from the days and nights that you stay up.

Do your assignments a few days before they are due, that way you can look over your work and fix things you may have missed the first time. Time management is everything, you will get quiet a few projects at once and if you don't work out a smart schedule you'll find yourself falling behind.

While pratt is going to push you to do your very best work, the atmosphere in which you'll be living is sure to inspire you as well. Visiting the school, as all schools, is a must but I guarantee you'll fall in love. The experience of Pratt is absolutely one of a kind but prepares you for an adult life and career, which is necessary and I've found that other schools lack. Brooklyn will become your home as Pratt makes it easy to adapt to city living and pumps your passion for the arts beyond what you've ever experienced before.

Work hard on your portfolio, and apply early if you can. I waited for months to hear back from one college because I waited so late. Having all of the responses early would have saved me a lot of stress down the line. If you do end up coming to Pratt, work hard and get involved. You're paying for the location, the community, and the facilities so try and get your money's worth.

Do not compare yourself to others. Each person has their own strengths and weaknesses and in a studio setting with frequent critiques it is easy to forget about bettering yourself by focusing too much on your shortcomings. Put importance on your grades and the assignments given to you, but allow yourself to personalize your schedule. If one assignment really speaks to you then spend the 10 hours you feel it needs. Remember that each assignment is potential for building your portfolio.
