Categories Comments Great for these types of students It is great for all students special for those who do not have the money or financial aid to attend four year school. Besides you can always transfer out.
Tips for prospective students There are great programs to assist students to enhance development and increase achievement rates among the students.
Bang for the buck At Rio Hondo the average cost of class in around $36 a unit and almost all classes here at Rio Hondo are transferable to all other schools in CA.
Am enjoying being here The campus is under construction and should be done completely by Spring 2012. Several sections of constructions are visible and the school is going to look more modern and open areas for students to hag out.
Am learning a lot The college is very student oriented and offers tons of classes not only on campus but online and at several other sites to expand to all students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone can bond because Rio Hondo is so diverse. =]
Tips for prospective students Almost always you are going to find yourself with a lot of pressure from parents, professors and even society to be what they what you to be. One tip that I would give students is never to give upon their dream. There is no such thing as a bad dream; there are just people who do not think that you can handle that type of eternal imagination. Once a professor told me, You can have a person steal your ideas, but no one can ever steal what is inside here, (pointing at my head). So go ahead and get you boots dirty; get rough and march on, who cares what people say if they think you cannot become a doctor or a lawyer or whatever your dream is. Sing the melody line you hear in your head. But, remember that there are a lot of resources that are willing to help you in college; it is just the matter of looking for them.
Bang for the buck The unit is $46 but it covers for the psychological services and nursing emergencies that you might need. You can also eat for free for four days as A.S.B sponsors their fellow students with pizza, chips and many times candy with a drink. The first time is when the semester is barely starting; the second time is when midterms are coming up and the last, is when finals are coming up. Its a nice relaxing way of thinking that at least you dont have to worry about buying food for three days on exam seasons and you mingle to relieve a little stress before going back to study. Also, you can take advantage of the Eureka, which fits your skills with careers and steps to get your dream job, free! All of these services are paid when you pay your tuition.
Am enjoying being here I love the fact that Rio Hondo is a small college to be around, great diversity in student’s ethnicity background and great support from outreach programs. Having a small class gives you the opportunity to have a closer connection with your professors. Imagine taking a class in a large classroom where 130 students can fit at most. Well, this happens in almost every college, but not in Rio Hondo College! This will limit your distractions and the possibility of getting lost among all the students you have to compete with. Yes, you guessed right. You will have more time to worry about the tests and studying time than on how many are competing with you for a good grade. Having this said, the classes are more selective and smaller. Rio Hondo College is also very diverse with ethnicity backgrounds, which makes it even a more interesting place to meet people and to bond with. Rio Hondo also offers great support from staff to those who qualify. There are programs for the disabled, the low-income, nursing programs, and math and science majors. Pretty much help is in the college you would just have to look for it. There is even a program for free tutoring and free printing center.
Academic Rigor Three skills came up to my mind after I walked out from each class: time management, perseverance and creativity. Time management is essential in everything that you do in this life and you will practice this in full extent if you are a full-time student. You are expected to come up with innovative ideas to being able to balance all classes, work and extracurricular activities, not to mention family or social times. The key to time management though, is being able to prioritize what matters the most and what is going to give you the most benefits or if a task has a closer deadline. When this is mastered, then whatever is left will fall in its place. The next skill is perseverance. There is a famous quote that says, Perseverance is not a long run but instead many short runs. This is exactly the way professors will test you stress threshold. You really just have to follow a routine that has worked for you to become successful. It could be studying right after class that makes a difference between an A from a B. The third skill is creativity. While this skill is sometimes bypassed by many college students, this is one of the most important things to do when everything fails; this includes the first two skills. Being creative is really not hard. You just have to find ways to learn differently; being open- minded. This means, for example, that you can study with a group rather than studying alone. The trick here is to find at most five people including you and really help each other master the material. If you really want to learn in college and stand out from the crowd then, you will have to practice your good skills or work to make them better. These three, always work for me but whatever works for you. Good luck!

Categories Comments Campus Safety In all of my time attending Rio Hondo Community College I have never encountered any saftey hazards or assults. Although the college is located in a mountain region, many locations have emergency phone polls to call for help. In general Rio Hondo is very safe.
Great for these types of students Rio Hondo College is great for student who seek a hire education, would like to transfer to a university after completing their general education, or look to receive a degree
Bang for the buck Rio Hondo College courses provide more than adequite knowledge and satisfacion for and degree or general education anyone may seek.
What to do for fun There is a wide variety of sports or clubs people join for tons of fun.
Food and Dining The quizine at the schools cafeteria is quite good. There s a wide range of delectible choices and there are also food items for vegans and vegitarians.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor The Rio Hondo College courses aren't too rigorous. The difficulty of the class depends on how easily you grasp the lessons, weather or not you study, and if you have a familiarity with the courses you wish to enroll in.
Tips for prospective students Become affiliated with the school campus before applying for classes to avoid getting lost. Be social, the small student body makes it almost, a must, to make friends. Don't refrain from asking for aditional help.
In three sentences RIo Hondo a great school with a very welcoming environment. The school popullation is not large but is still growing in numbers, and the faculty provides many useful and friendly services. College courses at Rio Hondo are very interactive.

Categories Comments What to do for fun there are clubs on campus which anyone can join, some clubs do require some stuff from you in order to be eligible to join. hang out with friends, go on the computers in the library, or read a book there. talk to teachers, make new friends there are a lot of things to do that are fun, its just what you make of it.
Food and Dining food is alright
Dorm Life there is no dorms
Academic Rigor it really depends on you and how your learning habits are. some do well with classes on campus and other do better independently.
Tips for prospective students be on time everyday, teachers hate it when students are late in some occasions teachers will lock the doors, drop you from the class, or kick you out. stay ahead of time if your recently planning to register have in mind that freshmen are almost always last in getting classes, older students, not referring to age, have priority. do your homework, classwork, etc., your not in high school anymore most to practically all teachers will not accept late work. just stay ahead of the game and do not let your friends or family interferer family and friend can be distractions and last but not least be active and if you need help ask teachers are there to help you and in most colleges there are tutors that are there to help as well. do all of these and you should do well in school.
In three sentences rio hondo is pretty well organized. the campus is amazing but needs more parking space. teachers on the most part are quite friendly

Academic Rigor this school offers alot of help when it comes to helping a student accomplish there goals academically.
Tips for prospective students always check your registration dates so that you are able to get the classes you want. leave to school early on the first weeks of class, parking can be hectic.
In three sentences rio hondo is not packed with students like other colleges can be. it has always been easy for me to get the classes i want. rio hondo just got remodled and it looks fantastic.

Categories Comments Campus Safety recently rio hondo has upgraded its security by placing several signal stations around the campus its a really safe campus general there is nothing crazy that happens around campus.
Clubs and Activities so many clubs to join at rio hondo. take your pick whether you're a honors type of person or a musical person. there is even a business club at rio hondo.
Bang for the buck rio hondo is dirt cheap for what you receive it's a bargain and in the long run it's definitely worth it.
What to do for fun there is tons of stuff you can do around the rio hondo campus. with the new student lounge you can hang out at school, or the new computer lab you can browse the internet at school. not to mention that it's in the beautiful city of whittier.
Food and Dining in addition to receiving a new beautiful campus rio hondo has created a new cafeteria its pretty huge and has a great selection of food. you can find anything you want to eat really in a convenient location.
Dorm Life well rio hondo has no dorms therefore there's no real dorm life... but the campus looks awesome after the new renovations. the one down side of rio hondo i'd have to say is the parking so be prepared to search for parking.
Academic Rigor some classes will really push you to your limits, others will be simple, while others just really boring it's a mix really. overall it's a great experience.
Tips for prospective students i'd say the three tips that have made me a successful student at rio are: don't be late to class,do your homework, it's incredibly helpful, and most importantly do not procrastinate!
In three sentences honestly rio hondo has a large staff that is all willing to help you pass your classes, they want you to graduate. aside from the fact that the faculty is great, the campus is looking amazing with the new renovations.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is pretty good. The campus is pretty relaxing and there is usually nothing out of the ordinary happening that will put your safety in danger. Although some incidents have happened it's usually not that common. Then again that happens everywhere, right?
Greek Life I don't really know about anything on this subject.
Clubs and Activities There is a wide variety of clubs to choose from. Some that come to mind are the Honor's Transfer Society, ASB, and many more. Activities are the norm on campus.
Great for these types of students Great for art major students and those interested in joining a fire academy or police academy.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The whole location of the campus is quite unusual. It's located on top of a hill next to a cemetery. It also has a small observatory located behind the campus. You can follow it by following a small trail. You'll be able to visit this observatory if you take Astronomy with Professor Highfill.
Bang for the buck The price for units is decent. Although rises due to budget cuts doesn't look too promising. On the other hand, the professor strive to find the best option on what book to use and at the same time cheaper to purchase for the students. The professors actually take the time to meet with students and help them succeed.
What to do for fun Join clubs and attend many events at the Wray Theater. There are also a handful of events throughout the semester around campus for certain holiday themes and dates.
Food and Dining They just transferred the student cafeteria and have added a Starbucks. So i'd say it's a pretty good upgrade.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at this college.
Academic Rigor Some classes and professors are fairly difficult, but will challenge you to the point of actually learning.
Tips for prospective students Register for classes as soon as possible. Don't procrastinate on adding classes. Take the bus to school for the first two weeks since parking will be a hassle but it tends to go down after the deadline for adding classes comes up.
In three sentences This college provides smaller scale classes to some degree. Although this college is located on a hill, the view and environment is great. New additions to this college have been made recently and give it an excellent modern look.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Hiking on campus probably isn't the safest activity, however the campus is very open and I feel safe walking from class to class or even relaxing on the grass reading a book.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities There are a number of clubs and if there wasn't a club that a group of people would like to join, they can easily start one. Clubs have activities and events all the time, and do community service for the school and do outings with each other.
Great for these types of students Rio Hondo is great for all types of students. There are a lot of sports here on campus, there is a continuing education program for certificate programs. I always see such a variety of individuals in the classrooms. People vary in age, race, and personality. But hey, it's California right?
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a hiking trail on campus that I would love to hike on but honestly, I am scared too. I wish it was better maintained and gated off and away from the wildlife. there are rattle snakes and mountain lions that can make such a hike unsafe.
Bang for the buck I do not feel the prices at Rio Hondo are too bad considering the prices at Universities. I feel that for the money I am paying, these classes are great.
What to do for fun There are a lot activities on campus. Health teacher hold exercise classes in there spare time FOR FREE and there is a lot of free natural spaces to read or do yoga or just relax. There are several tables and chairs and benches throughout campus as well. There are always workshops and events in the lower quad that are fun to go to in spare time or in between classes. There are people selling food and jewelery and people hosting little games/competition. It's a lot of fun.
Food and Dining There is not a very big variety of food here on campus however there is a local subway, el tepayec, waba grill, and burger express. The food on campus isn't very healthy either. Although it may taste good, I can only imagine the fat content of a single slice of pizza here on campus.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on campus unfortunately, if there were I'd be living in one. There are local apartments though, a little pricy if you ask me.
Academic Rigor The classes are very good and teachers for the most part make class interesting. Classes are not too easy so you won't get bored, but at the same time, the teacher often times works at the pace of the students so no one gets left behind.
Tips for prospective students Get to class early because parking can be an issue, especially the first couple of weeks and during finals. Look up teachers on a rating website before registering for classes. Some teachers are horrible but not all. Wear comfortably clothing and shoes. There are a lot of plants and bushes and stairs.
In three sentences Rio Hondo is a great college campus. It is not too big and not too small. Classrooms are easy to find and asking for help is easy.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety could be better
Bang for the buck There could be more done especially for how much students are paying.
What to do for fun There are students activities throughout the year. There are also plays and events happening at the wray theatre.
Food and Dining Food could be better.
Dorm Life There are no dorms here.
Academic Rigor Academics could be a little stronger, but it is a great place to learn.
Tips for prospective students Future students can learn here with the help of great professors and counselors. It is a small campus and it does make you feel at home.
In three sentences Rio Hondo college is a great place for a small atmosphere society. They do does engage their students in activities. Rio is also a great place to learn with great help.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Recently installed emergency poles around the school and parking lots in case of emergency happens, the local police will be notified at a faster rate.
Greek Life There are some chapters but not to fond of them.
Clubs and Activities Many clubs, activities and some sports a person can join.
Great for these types of students I am a business major and so far the classes have been going extraordinary great.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I'm only a freshman and can't say much of traditions.
Bang for the buck If qualified for a BOG Waiver, classes for the Fall and Spring semester would be less than $100.
What to do for fun There are hiking trails near the school. There is a Speed Zone, go karts, close by, at least a ten minute drive. There are nice restaurants after a three minute drive.
Food and Dining Food is expensive but dining areas are always clean.
Dorm Life There are no dorms. From what I know of.
Academic Rigor Like many schools, they'll have its bad professors and great ones too but from the classes that I have taken, all of my professors have been fair graders and nice people.
Tips for prospective students Best to come early when school semester begins or get things done before the semester starts because there are many students that are trying to speak with the same administrator you probably are.
In three sentences Rio Hondo College is, in my opinion, an over-sized high school. Which isn't such a bad situation to be in because many colleges and universities can be intimidating to people due to being so large. Even though the school is built practically on hills it is worth the view you catch when your on campus, especially with its wild habitat areas.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Nature lovers
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus is located on a giant hill. Great for those who love to get workout right before class.
What to do for fun Hiking the trails
Food and Dining Avoid the cafe.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Tips for prospective students Don't drop classes excessively, you'll lose your financial aid.
In three sentences Rio Hondo College does a really great job of encouraging students to transfer to universities by having transfer fairs at least 5 to 10 time per semester. They dedicated students the tools they need such as tutoring and the Go Rio program which gives students a free bus pass for the duration of the semester so they can commute to school. Rio Hondo makes being a student less of a burden and more like a journey.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Campus Security is highly visible around campus and very helpful in assisting students, faculty, and visitors.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities The Associated Student Body Club is a great club to join which helps the students and surrounding community plus looks great on your college/job resume.
Great for these types of students The campus is very diverse ( Asian, African-Americans, Latino, Caucasian) with the larger percentage of Latino/Hispanic students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus is located on top of a large hillside so plan accordingly when you decide to take classes around campus. There are trams available from the main entrance and around the student parking lots to assist you to the main areas on campus.
Bang for the buck Most definitely a great deal for attending the first/second year of college especially when you do a cost comparison to other surrounding schools for the cost of attending.
What to do for fun There are some fun restaurants/ clubs not too far from campus in downtown Whittier yet they are not within walking distance of the campus.
Food and Dining The food and service area for students is pretty good and central to most of the classrooms around campus.
Dorm Life No dorms at this campus.
Academic Rigor Academic courses can be a challenge yet, if you follow the course syllabus and keep up with the class schedule, you should be fine. If you have any questions or experience problems in the beginning of course, contact the instructor as soon as possible to discuss possible solutions to help you do better in class. Also, check with the instructor to see if there are any tutors available to help you outside class too.
Tips for prospective students If your are a new student and recently graduated from high school, plan on having the proper documents (such as your high school diploma and transcripts, drivers license/state id, and birth certificate) prior to registering for any classes ready to be submitted to the admissions office with your application to help speed the processing to getting into school. Also, if your not sure what courses to take, contact the counseling dept. at the college to set an appointment as soon as possible so you can have a better educational plan when you register for classes. If you are transferring from one college to another, try to have your college transcripts sent from your old college before planning on attending a new/another college.
In three sentences A diverse community college located about 1/2 hour east of downtown Los Angeles. Recently, the campus had some renovations completed including the opening of a new student services and administration building. The admissions, disability, and counseling staff are very helpful and knowledgeable in assessing the needs of new, current, and returning students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety is great at the campus as well. There is security all day just walking through the halls and parking lot as well as at night which is even better because it can get a little scary at night but overall the school makes one feel very safe.
What to do for fun I wouldn't say there are a lot of things to do for fun at the school but one I have acknowledged would be hiking! The school is located on a mountain which makes it even more interesting to hike and just enjoy the outdoors.
Food and Dining The food and dining is amazing at Rio Hondo College. Every single week the cooks provide something new to the menu at a very low price which I find great. Another thing I enjoy about the dining at the school is that everything gets prepared right when you order and in front of you as well.
Dorm Life I do not dorm at my college because it is a community college but I cannot wait to transfer and actually be able to dorm because I do want to experience a little more independence.
Academic Rigor I would say the academic rigor at Rio Hondo College would be the books. Sometimes one can get to the books a bit too late and they will not be available to rent anymore or buy but I do suggest online buying because it has helped me a lot ever since I first started college.
Tips for prospective students The only tip I would give to students would be to show up to every single class and in time because it is very important for your education and also for your professors. They take time being very important and students should also see it that way.
In three sentences Rio Hondo Has great professors and timing for my schedule and I love to show up to every single one of my classes every day because every single professor I have gotten are very interesting with their topics. The school is empty compared to other colleges such as Cerritos which is a good thing because it gives me time and the space necessary to study when needed usually in between classes. The online classes are also great due to the fact that a lot of them give you a week advance to check the next week schedule which I love which makes the school a lot better.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe. They have security guards making their rounds, as well as cameras and emergency call posts.
Bang for the buck Attending RHCC is a good option for those working parents who wish to finish their education as they offer online, evening and weekend classes. Tuition is also very cheap compared to other schools out there.
What to do for fun For fun, join clubs and meet people. RHCC is in an area close to two major freeways; making it accessible to many areas of entertainment.
Food and Dining The campus cafeteria, Rio Cafe, was recently remodeled and offers a great variety of choices as well as a large eating area inside and out.
Dorm Life I reside in the community and therefore, no dorming experience. However, the school is located near two major freeways, making it accessible to other cities and its not too far from Uptown Whittier which has appartments for rent for reasonable rates and the Uptown Whittier life is relaxed and friendly.
Tips for prospective students I recommend prospective students review the college catalog online to see all the options the have at RHCC and make an appointment to meet with a counselor to set up their educational goals.
In three sentences Rio Hondo College is a good option for those students who are not completely sure what they want to study. For those students who enjoy helping people, RHCC offers a Nursing program, as well as a Fire and Police Academy amongst other great programs. The counselors at RHCC are great guides to help students reach their goals.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck If you want to save money Rio is the way to go with units only being $46. Being a full time student is also beneficial since you can get a tap card which means you can take the bus for free. Getting you books at Rio is convenient since you can rent them and buy them used which is around half the retail price. Not to mention occasionally you get teachers which wrote their own book meaning instead of paying 100 or more per book you can pay as little as 8 dollars.
Academic Rigor In my opinion the classes are easy and tend to have few assignments. They mostly focus on the test which are based on the professors lectures. The assignments that they do have tend to be research papers which are easy unless you do them the day before they're do.
Tips for prospective students Get your math and science classes early since they tend to close the fastest. Don't be late or miss classes might seem like you the lectures aren't important but not all the answers are in the book . Finally if your not a morning person don't get morning classes
In three sentences Rio Hondo is a great community college which has great teachers classes and staff willing to help the students.

In three sentences They have wonderful opportunities and networking resources for those who choose to take advantage of them.
