    Campus Safety

Doors are not always locked, but it is small and peaceful.

    Greek Life

    Phi Theta Kappa.

    Clubs and Activities

There are sports, math and rotary student clubs, Phi Theta Kappa and a leadership program called DECA, just to name a few.

Great for these types of students

Riverland is a great college for students who like one on one help, and want to stay close to home. It is also a great start for students to do their generals, and later transfer.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a little prairie section behind the Owatonna campus with random benches. Great for peaceful studying.

    Bang for the buck

It is not nearly as expensive as a University, but books are highly priced, and you will barley get anything back for them once you sell them.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of sporting events and presentations accompanied by free food. The fine arts department also put on great performances, and they are free to students.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have your Interactive Degree Audit. Also, what will get you an A in one class, won't have the same effect in another. They provide lots of resources for your success-use them!

    In three sentences

I would rate Riverland Community College with seven stars out of ten because they have a variety of courses to choose from, despite budget cuts to education. They don't offer the student life other colleges may offer, but they are currently expanding some course to a Bachelor's for Fall of 2013. It is also easy to get desired one on one time with professors or tutors.

    Campus Safety

Due to the rural setting of the campuses of Riverland Community College and the desire of the students to succeed. I have never noticed anything concerning. I am amazed at how diverse the students are in each class and how well they all respond to each other.

Great for these types of students

Riverland Community College is a melting pot of everything America has to offer. There are students still in high school as well as students who could be retired. Many of the students live on their own and are working either part-time or full-time. Besides carying the load of work and school, many also have children. Riverland offers day, evening, and online classes at several locations which makes it a perfect fit for nearly anyone.

    Bang for the buck

Riverland Community College is a relatively inexpensive college to attend (considering the recent and immensely painful inflation on college rates). To offset this expense, knowing that many of the students are already financially strapped, the staff often surprises students with free treats and meals throughout the days and weeks. Computers are always available at the campus and printing is included in the cost of tuition! There is also free tutoring offered upon request at all of the campuses. The tutors are passionate about helping others succeed in their academic goals making it easier for students to go out and make the money they have always wanted to make in the profession that they have always wanted to be in.

    What to do for fun

There are recreation rooms at the Albert Lea and Austin campuses. Many students enjoy participating in the sports programs through the college. Opportunities to enhance one's theatre skills are offered through some of the programs offered throughout the college. The staff also makes the effort to bring the students together regularly for hallway activities and free snacks as well as drawings for prizes.

    Food and Dining

The Albert Lea Campus offers a delicious assortment of homemade meals as well as sandwiches and snacks for on-the-go students.

    Dorm Life

Riverland is a College mainly directed toward self-sufficient adults with their own homes or apartments. Many of the students have children. However, there are several locations that make access to the college reasonable.

    Academic Rigor

The professors demand a certain amount of participation from the students. Missing classes or being tardy is unacceptable. The professors are willing to work with students who are struggling as well as a Student Success Center that exists to help those who need some extra help. The course work is appropriately difficult to teach without overwhelming the student.

    Tips for prospective students

A prospectice student should come and visit one of the campuses to get a true understanding of how personal the experience at Riverland Community College can be. There are so many options available to help them succeed in their goals and many staff and students that are willing to help every student reach their academic and social goals.

    In three sentences

Riverland Community College has been the perfect fit for me and my busy lifestyle. The class times are perfect for my life and the professors are understanding and empathetic toward those who deserve periodic slack. The staff takes the time to get to know each person individually and the class sizes are perfect.

    Campus Safety

I find it ironic that this option is placed. This morning I had to leave my tutoring office because of a fire drill. The students here are all respectful and mature. I have never witnessed anything remotely disturbing at Riverland that would make me fear for my safety. I have never seen any vandalism or seen any bullying.

    Clubs and Activities

If a person has an interest, there is an activity or a club available to them. Per chance that there is not a club fit for a student, they can easily ask the powers-that-be at Riverland and start another group in a reasonable amount of time. Clubs and activities range from the Multicultural club, Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and Amnesty International to name a few.

Great for these types of students

Riverland is great for any student who wants to succeed in their career or in their life. The hours of classes and the opportunities available to become involved and help others abound here at Riverland. I would highly recommend Riverland as a place to obtain a two-year degree or to begin a life-long commitment to education by getting the prerequisites out of the way for a great price and while having a wonderful time.

    Bang for the buck

Riverland Community College has been the start to many life-changing events for me. It has opened a whole new world of opportunities for me. I have met so many other students here who are just like me and many who are wonderfully diverse. Riverland has students that are still in high school as well as some who are of retirement age and the diversity continues from there. I would highly recommend Riverland for anyone who is looking for something other than the traditional college setting with the same academic requirements.

    What to do for fun

Most of the students, as stated earlier, have families and jobs to go to in between classes. However, there are lots of activities offered throughout the semester for a few hours at a time to provide a chance for fellowship and fun. Riverland also offers sports for the students who are interested.

    Food and Dining

The food offered at the Austin campus is healthy and well priced. The staff there are polite and courteous.

    Dorm Life

Riverland does not have dorms available for students. However, there is student housing on the Austin campus that is quaint and well maintained.

    Academic Rigor

Riverland is a part of the MNSCU system and has the same requirements as many other four-year campuses. The professors require diligence and timeliness in all assignments. However, with small class-sizes, exceptions can be made for significant life events.

    Tips for prospective students

One of the best tips for students planning on attending Riverland Community College is to get involved. If a person can find something that they are passionate about, there is a group at Riverland and a chance to make a difference.

    In three sentences

Riverland Community College is a close-knit college located at campuses in Austin, Owatonna, and Albert Lea. The professors treat each student as an individual and understand that many of the students have families or jobs to go home to in the evenings.
