Hang out with your high school friends. One of the most obvious things on campus is the groups of students hanging together. International students are in groups speaking their native language and students from different parts of NY hang together. No need for any adjustment period if you stick with your high school friends.

There are endless things to do for fun- clubs, dorm activities, Student Association festivals, sports events, Late Night Binghamton, dance shows, acapella groups, you name it, we've got it. Off campus there are also a lot of activities- First Fridays, BMets and BSens games, Greek Peak for snowboarding/skiing, Nathaniel Cole Park (aka the Blake) and so much more! There's always something going on here. If you're bored it's your problem!

Get involved! So many cool, unique, and fulfilling clubs/organizations/causes to join. There are a lot of activities that go on in Downtown Binghamton, such as parades, art festivals, bar crawls, and minor league hockey and baseball games.

As a grandparent of 9 grandkids, I suspect that my version of fun is different. However, there are a lot of opportunities to have an active social life both on and off campus. Many businesses cater to BU students and that has now been extended to more areas locally. Expansion in downtown Binghamton is specifically being geared to BU students with housing, stores, and even classes (okay, not fun, but convenient!) There are parks, rivers, mountains, and more. There are activities geared to all of these and all seasons. If you like winter activities, ski resorts are within 45 minutes of campus and offer packages for the day, weekend, or season. Buses run trips to these resorts on fairly regular basis. There is a very active music scene in local bars, coffeehouses, and other locations providing music from all genres. Triple Cities Opera is a regional company that works with BU's Fine Arts program and NYC Met training opera's next stars and rehabbing current stars. You never know who you'll see. Interested in Broadway? Broadway in Binghamton provides top Broadway shows at the Forum through the traveling companies. Top acts in all genres of music play at the Arena with smaller acts playing at various locations depending on the act and size of venue. If you like professional sports, Binghamton has hockey, baseball, and football teams. If you play sports, there are leagues for all kinds. There are also nationally-recognized sports events held locally in tennis, golf, basketball, cycling, and more. Aside from the two gyms and event center (Home to BU Athletics), many of the parks provide basketball and tennis courts. There are public pools and sports fields. The school's location may be one of its best assets. It is centrally located in the Southern Tier of NY and borders on the Northern Tier of PA. It is about 4 hours to NYC, 1 hour to Scranton, 1 hour to Syracuse, and 1 hour to Ithaca. All of these locations supply additional opportunities for fun.

Binghamton University is a relatively small campus, allowing there to exist a nice community. There are so many events going on at campus and multiple clubs and sports team that can take up your free time. People complain that Binghamton is in the middle of nowhere but there's so much to do on and around campus that you forget.

People always say: Binghamton has walmart, a movie theater and a mall. The movie theater is cheap, and it has comfortable reclining seats. We also have a nature preserve that people can go hiking in. Visit friends for fun! Binghamton is not boring if you actively go and look for something to do.
