Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students looking for a smaller campus, Students looking for a smaller classes, Students looking to go to a public school, Students looking for a Liberal Arts school setting. Students who love basketball. Students who want to go into Business, Nursing, Teaching or Human Development, can change from Harper to schools which are located on campus and specialize in those divisions.
Tips for prospective students Bring boots (it starts to snow real bad around early December), Take advantage of all the organizations that SUNY offers as clubs, Scope out the town area (there is a discount student book store close by, a Wal-Mart, Movie theatre, Target, Mall, Bed Bath and Body Works, Dollar Store, Hallmark that you can get to by bus, in less than 10 minutes.) Know the student Bus System (There are both city buses and school buses that drop you off and pick you up at the student Union, and they go to about everywhere, until the wee hours in the morning.)
Bang for the buck Since Binghamton is in New York, you of course have to deal with taxes, however SUNY Binghamton, compared to other schools has a lot of props for the price. You can sign up for a good meal plan (that will definitely save you some money). There is a Student bus system which will help you cut corners on gas and paying for a parking permit. You can even get a job on campus at the Library or as a Tour guide. The school is actually known in magazines such as USA today as a good buy as far as tuition goes. There are extraciricilar leadership classes offered every now and again that look good on your resume. One of the only downsides is the Health Service system does not stay open on weekends, but it offers walk in hours from 8 am - 11 am without and appointment.
Am enjoying being here As an Out-of-State student I considered a lot of colleges before going to Binghamton, including Texas State San Marcos, as well as the famous UT Long Horns in Austin. As I am originally from the Southern regions of the United States it was a real culture shock for me but I enjoyed every second of it. All my professors were fantastic, and quite engaging. People say that college is different from High School because the Professors don't care whether you pass or fail, but at Binghamton I felt that they really did care.
Am learning a lot Wow, one semester down and I feel like it's already swept by. If you choose to go into Sciences here at SUNY Binghamton you will definitely get your money's worth, and learn a lot more than you ever anticipated. Binghamton is renowned as a 1st degree research college in Math and Science, and to pass those types of classes, even as a Freshman you really have to buckle down and study, study, study but afterwards you will know your stuff. Socially there are so many different organizations you can attend, and learn about different cultures, religions, and personalities. It's almost as if the whole world is sitting in your backyard!

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students As many students before me have said time management is key. As a engineering student, I am always busy with school work or clubs. It really is important to balance studying and leisure time but once you get the hang of it, SUNY Binghamton is great!
Bang for the buck This is a premier state university, I think the tuition price isn't good but isn't bad either but of course it'd be great if college was free... =]
Am enjoying being here I adore dorming on campus because you basically live with your classmates/friends. You can eat together, hangout with each other and I must say you will never be bored. Freshmen aren't allowed cars on campus but there are free shuttle buses that take you places like walmart or oakdale mall. Also my favorite part of campus is the nature preserve, it is just a great place to sit and relax and enjoy nature.
Am learning a lot The professors here are great! If you need help they are there for you. Often times students don't go to them so they really do want you to come to them or else they won't have anything to do during office hours.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students -Those interested in the math and science fields -those who cannot afford to pay for other schools -those who want diversity and looking for cultural exchanges -those who anticipate in joining a frat or sorority if you want they do exist too and throw a lot of the parties -if you like winter
Tips for prospective students Bring rain boots and warm clothing! The weather is as bad as everyone makes it seem, but one thing I can say about it is that it is VERY bipolar. The temperature range for one day in early fall usually ranges from 40-70 degrees Fahrenheit so layer it up to make it easier to put on and strip off when necessary.
Bang for the buck DEFINITELY worth what you are paying for. Sometimes I find myself not being satisfied with the quality of certain small things, such as, a lack of soccer balls for the club team but when I think about how much I am paying compared to others it is a big difference.
Am enjoying being here There will never be a lack of activities available on campus. For one, if you enjoy getting involved in a multitude of extracurriculars, you will find yourself having to choose between a few here and there since you are only person. The weekends are ridiculous...the party scene downtown is always hoppin and if your not into that there are usually lots of student run groups that host a variety of events.
Am learning a lot Even though I am only taking 3 classes, the workload is still tremendous, but manageable if you sufficiently set time aside to do it! My professors are very intelligent and teach well; however, one of my TAs is a bit hard to understand and there are many of them so watch out.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any type of person can be happy here; from jock to hipster. Even though the campus is really large, it definitely has a small school feel. Do not let the size be a factor that steers you from binghamton.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for the cold. If you're premed, be prepared to not sleep freshman year. If you're not premed, be prepared to not see your friends that are. Go to the frat parties. Its worth it. Make as many friends as possible as soon as possible. Smile.
Bang for the buck Binghamton is worth the money and then some. I honestly could not imagine having a better college experience anywhere else, and thats the most important thing. Academically it's just as good as any private school of greater cost and socially it surpasses them.
Am enjoying being here The people here are great. Everyone is really friendly and even if they're not, the campus is big enough to stay away from those who you wish to stay away from. The dorming communities are great (especially CIW).
Am learning a lot Every class i've taken has been stimulating. Besides the fact that the majority of the professors here are great, the students are motivated and bring up insightful and intelligent discussions in class. Its fantastic.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's definitely not the best for communications majors, since there is really no communications major, but it's great if you want to go into the sciences, whether it is the health sciences (they have an ALS accredited EMS, entirely run by students) or something else, specifically because it is a research institution.
Tips for prospective students Rainboots are a must at this school. The weather can be downright mucky at times, but that's how any other winter might be... just a bit more severe at Binghamton. Despite the weather, I wouldn't have chosen any other school.
Bang for the buck Absolutely. Binghamton's done to death slogan is the public ivy after all. Even as an out of state student, the tuition I am paying isn't exorbitant, compared to what it would be had I been an out of state student in another state's public university. Still, college is college, and it can get pricey.
Am enjoying being here I love everything about the school more and more each day that I am there. I got involved in everything, but not the things I thought I would do. Binghamton is the perfect mixture of fun and learning. You get the intense education, but at the same time, there's always time to meet up with friends and have fun!
Am learning a lot The workload at Binghamton can get a bit intense sometimes, with all nighters at the library, but there is a great, recently remodeled cafe for those all nighters. It all depends on the class you take that influences the work load. Some can be a lot easier than others.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students 1 - Pre-med (most common major) 2 - variety of interests (can mix and match majors and minors, study abroad) 3 - low income
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of opportunities! It may be bewildering at first, but get involved in something and stick to it. This will especially help you meet upperclassmen. Don't be one of the seniors that wished they had taken advantage, but now faces the working world, and they never took an art class or studied abroad. Don't put stuff off - do it now! If you have to get a job to pay for it, get a job - now is not the time to chill out and do nothing because I worked so hard in high school. All that said, college is the best time to form friendships, too, so make sure to take time for that, and even when you've made a few close ones, keep meeting people. After college, it's very hard to meet new people. Also, do things you wouldn't normally do. There is always something to love in any person - even if they wierd you out at first.
Bang for the buck SUNY Binghamton is very very cheap. You probably won't get a lot of scholarships because of this, but it is about $18,000 a year, and as I stated earlier they have high standards, lots of opportunities, and lots of networking as far as careers and such. It is highly selective to get into. So you are getting top-quality education for a very low price.
Am enjoying being here Going to a larger school is great. There is always something happening, much that is student run which is great because the students are really on fire for what they do. The University also sponsors a lot of career-based and program-based events. It has pretty good diversity as far as nationalities, economic backgrounds, and career interests, so you can both find people you click with and network with new kinds of people who can help you grow as a person. The university really does a lot to provide opportunities for you to get the most of life and education - you just have to take advantage!
Am learning a lot Of course, classes depend on the professors, so there will always be classes where you do not learn as much. However, I took a couple introductory lecture courses and was please to find that the classes were still challenging, the professors were well-informed, and they were very helpful despite large class size. In addition, my smaller classes held high standards. The professors all seem very knowledgable in their subject areas. Also, there are a lot of subject area. I am double majoring in French and Human Development with a minor in Art - the size of the school means that they have a lot of classes in a lot of subjects so you can make sure you get a well-rounded education and can mix and match majors and minors as you like. They are strongest in the sciences and in engineering, but I have been pleased with my own major classes so far and even with the piano department, though it is small.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Smart, hardworking, engineers, nurses
Tips for prospective students Keep up with your work, it can pile up on you! Make time to have fun! Talk to an advisor, it isn't required to speak to one, but it really helps!
Bang for the buck Binghamton is basically a private school education for a public school price.
Am enjoying being here There is always something to do here. It is very easy to make friends, and everyone is smart. There are clubs galore and tons of sports. You can watch a soccer game, or cheer on the basketball team. All of the dorms have events all the time.
Am learning a lot The classes can be pretty tough, but you will definitely know your stuff when you graduate! Some of the professors are a little crazy, but that's because they are brilliant. There is also a ton of help like tutoring and the writing center.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This is an extremely safe campus. We have a police department right on campus. We have our student-run Ambulance service right on campus. You have to show your ID to swipe into any of the residential buildings (your ID will only let you into your own building). We have a blue light system in which emergency help can be accessed by the push of a button on one of the many blue light poles around campus. You can see at least one blue light from wherever you are standing on campus. I have never felt unsafe at any point on campus, even at night, while walking by myself. I do not know of anyone who hasn't felt safe while on campus. If you ever do feel unsafe, you can call the University Police Department (UPD) using your phone or any of the blue lights, or you can also access the Safe Ride program which enables students to either ride or walk with a police officer or other campus official to their destination so they won't be alone.
Greek Life There is a surprising presence of Greek Life on campus. It is more prominent than one would think when thinking of such a prestigious university. Many students participate. Many others, like me, don't really care.
Clubs and Activities There is a wide range of clubs and activities on and off campus. There is something for everyone. Many of these clubs have even been nationally recognized and have received awards. For example, Harpur's Ferry is Binghamton's student-run Ambulance service and has received numerous awards across the country.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Nature Preserve! Acres and acres of nature! Absolutely beautiful! Students can be found hiking, kayaking, running, reading, and doing all kinds of activities in the nature preserve at any time of the year! Definitely a must see!
Bang for the buck For all that it has to offer, plus its fantastic reputation and the phenomenal education you receive, Binghamton University is a great value. It has been rated as a Best Value by Princeton Review and many other prestigious organizations. This value is even greater if you are an in-state student who qualifies for the in-state tuition. However, the value is great for all students.
What to do for fun On weekends, Binghamton hosts Late Night Binghamton which is always free. They have food, games, bands, comedians, crafts, and much more, every Friday and Saturday night, and it's all FREE. There is also a bowling alley, pool hall, arcade games, video rental store, art museum and ping pong tables located on campus for your use 7 days a week. In addition to this, many other events are usually held on campus for a discounted price. For example, this past week they had AfroJack come in a perform at a concert and Childish Gambino is performing soon too. I saw comedian Lewis Black perform a couple of weeks ago. There are also tons of other events going on around campus too; whether it is an RA hosted event in a residence hall, or a student production of a musical in the theater. You can also get involved with many of the different clubs, teams and organizations around campus. I almost forgot, some of my friends' favorite thing to do around campus is walk/hike/run through the Nature Preserve. The Nature Preserve is 182 acres of land located on campus just behind one of the residential communities.
Food and Dining There are four dining halls on campus (one in each community and one shared between two communities) and many other places on campus to grab a bite to eat. Whether you're a vegan, a vegetarian, a carnivore, lactose-intolerant, allergic to certain foods or anything you may possibly be, you will definitely be able to find a variety of things to eat on campus. The food isn't always the greatest (I'd be lying to say it is; and let's face it, isn't dining hall food the one thing every college student complains about?), but it's better than most colleges I've visited. If you're getting tired of the food offered around campus (although there is tons of variety, it's bound to happen), there are other options. There are plenty restaurants and chains very close to campus. You don't need a car to reach most of them, because the free bus service will most likely get you where you want to go. And some of these restaurants even accept your BUC$ card as payment, so it's really convenient. Many of the local restaurants and chains will also deliver right to your building. Personally, on top of taking advantage of all I just said, I also go shopping at Walmart and other grocery stores for food to keep in my room. There is always something to eat somewhere.
Dorm Life Dorming here at Binghamton University is great. Although some of the residence halls are newer than others, they all have something special about them. All residential students have pride in their living communities. I have not met a single student who is unhappy living here. If you don't like where you've been placed, the ResLife office will accommodate your request to move you to another room/building/community. One of the best things about dorm life at Binghamton is the residence communities. Rather than have a bunch of different buildings, numerous buildings are grouped together and called a community. Each community has its own traditions and brings something different to the table. There is also communities within different buildings that are geared towards a common idea. For example, there is a chem-free community in which all the residents living there do not use drugs or alcohol on or off campus. There are many types of these communities to choose from if you wish. Personally, I do not live in one of these smaller communities.
Academic Rigor Course work depends upon your major. For the most part, since Binghamton is such a prestigious university, there is a lot of work to be done. But, if you were accepted here, you can more than likely handle all that is thrown at you. And if you find yourself struggling, there are plenty of resources for you on campus such as the Writing Center, Discovery Advisors, tutors, etc, that can all help you out.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus. I had no intention on attending a SUNY (or any college in NY state for that matter) until I visited SUNY Binghamton. From the moment I got here, I was in love. Also, be sure to check out all of the clubs and organizations that Binghamton has to offer. There's something for everyone. Get involved!
In three sentences Binghamton University is the perfect school. They offer a wide range of majors and sports/clubs, a diverse student body, career planning and development, and so much more. You really need to visit to see what I mean.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students -Those looking for a smaller campus. -Those looking for a strong Liberal Arts program. -Those who won't be disappointed by the lack of a varsity football team (we have co-rec football, if that is any consolation). -Those who love to play sports, be it in the snow or at 3 AM. -Those looking for a good school with a smaller price tag. -There's something for everyone at Bing.
Tips for prospective students -Time management is essential. -Take a HARP 101 class. Half of the class is devoted to learning about resources on campus. It's also a small class of up to 25 students, so it is great for getting to know your peers, having discussions, and getting to know the teachers. It's only open to first semester freshmen anyway, so take the opportunity while it is there. -Know the bus schedule. -Study for your classes. Real studying. -Check out the Nature Preserve. -Be aware of some of the activities. Try to at least glance at the emails they send, or the posters, or the FB events. -Go to some of them. -Go to office hours. -Get to know at least one faculty member per semester. -Get slippers for the shower. You'll need it. -Have at least 2 cab drivers' cards. -If the class you want is closed, don't give up! Keep checking to see if an opening appeared. I have gotten in to classes I wanted this way. Also, people tend to drop classes a lot during the beginning of the semester, so check then also. -When it comes to buying textbooks, I recommend Amazon. -Join clubs you like, and stick to them. It's the enjoyment/commitment that matters, not the quantity.
Bang for the buck Offers great education for a lower price. The financial aid package Bing offered me was the best compared to other colleges I got in to, like Boston University. My only recommendation would be for more washing machines and dryers for the laundry room, and more printers for the library. For those of you who are picky eaters like me, the food is eh. I tend to spend my meal plan on the sandwiches in the dining hall, or Night Owl. It pales in comparison to a real meal, but good enough. Health services could be a bit more accessible...
Am enjoying being here It is a common misconception that there is nothing to do at Bing. That couldn't be further from the truth! There are over 200 student groups, and more is always being added, so there is bound to be at least one that captures your interest. The school is also a bus ride away from shopping malls, Wegman's, Walmart, restaurants, etc. When it snows, it is highly recommended that you go traying. Traying is when you borrow a tray from the dining hall and use it as a sled down one of the hills.:) Also check out the exercise classes and facilities. Good for staying in shape, and we pay a $30 fee for it after all.
Am learning a lot Wow, already done with first semester. It certainly hits you fast how different it is than high school. I have definitely learned a lot in terms of subject matter. The faculty I have encountered so far are very receptive to questions. If you can't meet with them during office hours, just shoot them an email. Or ask upperclassmen. There is also advising for whatever school you are in, as well as Discovery advising, which is later during the day with fellow students.

Tips for prospective students If considering their MSW program, take into consideration that you're classes will all be at the downtown center and that this is designed for someone who has NO previous social work experience.
Bang for the buck I felt like the student center, the activities on campus, the health center, the on campus organic grocery store, and the late night events made the campus a pretty good buy. Parking passes for the semester can get expensive, but the college is fairly cheap tuition wise. The class sizes can get pretty large in 100-200 level classes: 150 or more students.... So it's up to you whether you think that's a deal or not.
Did enjoy being here I was one of the first students to utilize the new downtown center for 95% of my classes. At the time I was a student there they most certainly didn't have the bugs out of coordinating the downtown center. My degree program was only one of I think 4 that was present in this building....considering that and the fact that it was a couple miles from the main campus it felt pretty alienating. I also felt a little bit threatened by the surrounding neighborhoods around the downtown center. I was an off-campus housed student, so parking downtown near the center was awful. They had very limited gated parking, and no good backup plans for the 100+ students that couldn't fit into the gated lot. This meant a lot of walking through shady areas to finally make it to the campus. To give them credit, they did have one security escort, but they would only walk you 3 blocks away from the school and then you're on your own. There is a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes most days back to the main campus....so on campus students definitely will find it safer and easier to get to the downtown center. I felt the classes were ok....I had a mix of great professors, so-so ones, and terrible ones. I did sense a disorganization of my classes since my program (Human Development) was brand new.
Did learn a lot My program: HDEV (Human Development) was brand new. I felt that I learned a little bit about everything, but not enough about anything. It was too broad. I think this degree doesn't even exist anymore, so no worries about following in my footsteps..... If it's helpful, I'm 4 years from my graduation, and I was never able to find a job....I didn't have a specific enough skill set and enough internship experience.

Tips for prospective students Prepare to study! I maintained a good average and got a 2280 on my SAT--never studied, never had a tutor all through highschool. Now, I study all the time! The professors expect you to keep up your end of the deal.
Bang for the buck Sure, it's a lot for room and board, but in-state tuition is only about $5000 and it has a ton of programs, on- and off-campus busing, and a load of cocurricular and extracurricular options. Plus, the schoolhas a great reputation so your time here is worth it.
Am enjoying being here There's a great campus culture; each dorm community has different activities to bring everyone together and the dorms themselves are nice. There's a lot of diversity in the student population, and I've learned to appreciate a lot of different types of people!
Am learning a lot I can't believe my first semester's almost over! It's been a lot of work but in the end you really know a lot. It has an amazing amount of course options, and encourages students to try new things. The professors vary a lot so it's guaranteed that some will get the point across.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is good for the student who does not fear a challenge. All of the students attending Binghamton were at the top of their high school classes so you are always surrounded by the best of the best. If you would like a large group of kids with individualized attention then this school is perfect.
Tips for prospective students Write a great college essay to show that you are personable because sometimes grades are not all that matter.
Bang for the buck The school's tuition for New York residents is nothing short of cheap and money well spent.
Will enjoy being here This school provides a large number of students with a small school feel. It is a mid-sized school at 12,000 but when you are on campus it feels like and small town and that is very good depending on what the individual student wants.
Will learn a lot This school has a great deal of majors, excellent class sizes, and is regarded to be the Harvard of the SUNY's. The number of clubs, groups, organizations, activities, etc offered here will make anyone become a better person, at the least.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students - Students that like a large campus - Students that prefer a green environment - Students that appreciate a suburban setting - Students that want to save on transportation - Students that want a diverse college experience
Tips for prospective students - Have rain/snow boots/an amazing umbrella. Binghamton weather is unpredictable and most of the incoming students don't know what they're in for. - Make learning the bus schedule a priority! The bus literally goes to most of the places you need to go, and if you know how to use it, a car is optional. This not only saves gas, but helps the environment, and since Binghamton is a green school, that's important. - Go to office hours early on. Not only do you have a better relationship with your professors, they tend to have more sympathy for grading issues because they see it as effort on your part. - Get involved with as many things as you can! There's hundreds of opportunities for volunteer work, extracurricular activities and just plain fun. - Visit the Career Development Center. They can help with internships, job opportunities and your decision for a career path.
Bang for the buck Binghamton is considered one of the most valuable schools in the SUNY system. Tuition is fair for the services rendered, and with a food plan and the bus system, most of a student's basic needs are accounted for on campus.
Am enjoying being here Binghamton is a beautiful campus with a bunch of places to socialize and relax. The nature preserve is gorgeous and is perfect for walking and hiking. The surrounding town is focused around the college, with restaurants, stores, and places for fun like skating rinks, a movie theater (with a student discount) and a mall, all on a bus line from campus. Your ID card gets you on the bus free of charge, and so long as you know the schedule, having a car is practically optional. The campus is such a melting pot too! In addition to being ethnically diverse, there is a million different things to do every day and B-line always lets you know whats going on around campus.
Am learning a lot I'm already a junior at Binghamton University and every day I wonder where the time has gone! Binghamton has so many options for multiple fields of study and has many options to acclimate you to college life. There are hundreds of majors to choose from and even a create-your-own program for those who want a very specific but non-established major. The work is tough, but part of college is buckling down and studying in order to learn what we need for our prospective career paths. As far as providing that opportunity, Binghamton more than manages.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Typically any types of students; the school varies in the types of students it hosts, so many students may feel welcome.
Tips for prospective students The University is a good place for a social life, but you may have a tough time with the education if you let the social life influence you too much.
Bang for the buck The University is relatively cheap and financial most likely covers majority of the tuition.
Am enjoying being here If you're interested in a social life, you can find it here; just don't expect it to be a bright area. Many people find the University to be depressing due to the amount of rain it receives weekly.
Am learning a lot There are a lot of great teachers in the University that are willing to help you, but you are going to have to study on your own; there's no way two ways about this. Recommended to have good work ethic.

Bang for the buck It's a state school - it's cheap - but I'm getting a great education.
Am enjoying being here No doubt the weather is poor, but I love dorm life. I have great friends and the work I do for class is rewarding.
Am learning a lot Binghamton offers a great variety of courses and the teachers I've had so far have been (with one notable exception) great. Most people consider it boring but I think they're just looking at the wrong places - there's plenty of stuff going on on campus if you just care to look, plenty of experiences to be had and ways to learn outside the classroom.

Tips for prospective students with the looks of the economy nowadays, the education given to binghamton university's students gives them reassurance and confidence of a future in their chosen career path.
In three sentences binghamton university's education is fantastic, and the professors are truly there to help you out. the various tactics used by the professors all have one similarity: they challenge us to think outside of the box. there is no such thing as a stupid question, professors, ta's, and friends are constantly at your side to help you through your four years at the university.

Categories Comments Food and Dining for the most part, i love our food. i've visited my friends at their private universities and i have been very disappointed by the quality of their food. not everything at bing tastes great, but if you choose wisely, you'll find that a lot of things do!
Dorm Life a lot of students dorm, but the specific dorm life for each student varies depending on which residential community they live in. i am currently living in dickinson. dickinson is known to be the most social community on campus. however, it is also the oldest, so it has its cons. most of my floor mates are very friendly, so i never feel like a stranger in my home.
Academic Rigor as a bioengineering major, the classes that i am required to take are very challenging and require a whole lot of studying outside of class. nonetheless, there is help wherever you turn. professors are friendly and willing to help, and tutors are assigned to you upon request.
In three sentences binghamton university is a great school academically, socially, and financially. it allows me to focus on my studies while enjoying myself at the same time. i wouldn't trade it for the world!

Clubs and Activities lots of extracurriculars around campus. there's something for everyone
Great for these types of students wanna go to an ivy league school but can't afford it? come to binghamton.
Bang for the buck great education for the money you pay
What to do for fun xbox, sports, guitar, downtown, go out to restaurants with friends
Food and Dining the food is solid. it's still campus food, and it gets boring after a long semester, but they do a pretty good job of trying to mix in some variety.
Dorm Life many of the communities have suite style dorms. suites are great. three double bedrooms off of a common room, so you share your bathroom with 6 people total instead of an entire floor. it's also nice because you can get to know the people you live with very well, and trust them with tvs/xbox/etc in the common room.
Academic Rigor schoolwork is difficult at times, but not overwhelming. most people have a challenging but manageable workload.
In three sentences binghamton is where you can learn the skills you need to start a great career without having to break the bank. the campus is big enough that you'll always have new people to meet without being overwhelming. there's a wide variety of majors here too, so it's a good place to meet people of different backgrounds and mindsets.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue lights and police phones all over campus. The school has its own student-run ambulance that can meet you in several minutes and take you to a hospital if you have an emergency.
Bang for the buck Most parents are thrilled to send their kids here because Binghamton is one of the best value colleges. Great price and stellar academics.
What to do for fun It seems like most people like to go downtown to a frat or bar on the weekends. Others, however, enjoy staying on campus, which can be equally fun. The school offers a Late Nite program that has lots of activities, movies, and food going on during Friday and Saturday night. The town itself is pretty dull but the students are a fun bunch.
Food and Dining Each dorm has its own dining hall which makes it really easy to see people that you know when you go there for meals. There is a decent variety of food, though it does get a little repetitive after a while. There are many kosher, vegetarian, and halal options as well.
Dorm Life Each residential community is very different so you should research them all before picking one. The amenities are generally really nice, though, with two of the communities being almost brand new.
Academic Rigor Most people aren't drowning in work, but the academics are definitely challenging. There is an emphasis on writing and taking a variety of gen-eds so you get to experience a lot of different classes. Be prepared to work and study if you get here, but it's not unbearable.
Tips for prospective students Get involved with things. There are so many clubs here, and if you don't get involved right away, you might find yourself missing out on a lot of opportunities. The campus offers a lot of services, from internships to volunteering to counseling, and if you know where to look, you can take advantage of all of them.
In three sentences Binghamton is a university on the larger side, but it feels like a much more intimate campus because the people here are friendly, motivated, and fun. It's probably one of the best values you could get for your money. The academics and reputation are top-notch and most people are very happy to be here.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Looking forward to finding out about all there is to do -- love to hike and snowboard so I am sure there is some of that in the winters!
Food and Dining I was impressed by how much food there was and how many choices you had -- whether it was choices within one cafeteria or the number of cafeteria choices total (each dorm has a themed cafeteria and anyone can eat in any one they want!)
Dorm Life Still haven't decided for sure which dorm I will put as my first preference, but I saw all of them and there wasn't one I didn't like.
Academic Rigor I've been told the academic rigor is up there. Looking forward to being challenged my first year of college!
Tips for prospective students There seems to be a lot to do on campus and I don't mind walking so everything is pretty easy to get to on foot.
In three sentences Visited SUNY Binghamton in November and LOVED the campus. Also, the town of Binghamton itself seems very friendly and inviting. Definitely my first choice school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police everywhere.
Greek Life If you want to have an exciting college experience, you go Greek.
Clubs and Activities A million things to get involved with.
Great for these types of students All types of students. Very diverse.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Beautiful nature preserve.
Bang for the buck One of the best valued schools in the country.
What to do for fun I love being in Greek life. I also play a lot of pick up sports. I go out on the weekends. Seems like there's a lot of things to do, but it gets old after a couple of years.
Food and Dining The food is nothing special. Some days its good, some days it's bad.
Dorm Life Dorm communities are comfortable with many newly built buildings. Everybody dorms their first two years because it's so convenient and fun.
Academic Rigor It really depends on the classes you take. School of Management classes are generally easier than science classes. Rated on of the least workloads out of all top tier schools.
Tips for prospective students You don't need to come here with your friends because it's easy to make new ones. It is really what you make of it here, my first year I didn't do a lot, but sophomore year I joined clubs and a fraternity and now I feel very content.
In three sentences Has the best aspects of large and small schools combined. Great value for the low tuition and high level education. Many opportunities to get involved with.

Categories Comments Greek Life I am involved in a new charter sorority and it has been a great experience. We have mixers with fraternities, do community service, and host events.
Great for these types of students A student who wants to excel in academics, be involved in clubs and organizations and is used to being a top student with many friends. Pre-professional majors are popular and the science and engineering department is top notch.
Bang for the buck I am in a very competitive school for the price of a state school. The value is extremely beneficial since I will not be owing money when I graduate. For today's cost of higher education, one needs to seriously look at Binghamton University.
What to do for fun There are numerous activities including late night Binghamton, Bowling alley, concerts on campus, acapella night, basketball games (division 1) and Greek life. Since Binghamton is in Vestal,NY there are movie theaters, malls and lots of shopping. There are buses that organize trips and Cornell and Ithaca are only 45 minutes away. Downtown Binghamton has night life and Greek life.
Food and Dining Like in any institution the food here is good until you decide you have had enough and need to get off campus and visit a real restaurant or just a Starbucks. The newer dorms have a variety of food stations including a kosher kitchen and vegetarian, and ice cream bar. The student union offers some outside vendors like Sushi or TCBY and will be under construction next year to enlarge it.
Dorm Life Some dorms are noisier than others. Binghamton mixes floors by years and also are co-ed. There are suites available and also singles and triplets. Although I enjoyed my dorm I think I would rather have started out my freshman year on a freshman only floor. This would have enabled more interaction with the students living on my floor.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor depends on the courses being taken. The math and science and economic courses are very rigorous compared to some other humanity courses.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work for your grades but also get involved in many activities that are offered on campus. Save extra money for the times you want to get off of campus and eat in different restaurants or shop. Although you will see construction on campus, you will know that Binghamton continues to update its dorms, student center, and living and learning quarters for future students.
In three sentences Binghamton University has been a very academic, challenging and exceptional institution for my higher education experience. I have gotten involved with many different clubs, theater, sorority, community service and continue to maintain over a 3.5 GPA. The education and experience here has been superior and the financial cost is more manageable than a private institution.

What to do for fun Not much off campus besides an amazing movie theater and the greek life parties off campus
Food and Dining The food is not good here to be honest but it is food and sometimes made well.
Dorm Life The different dorm styles are great for everyone. Allows people to become more social.
Academic Rigor The classes are not easy because the gpa desired is not going to be attained without effort.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to not get distracted by the party life, remember that you're a student first.
In three sentences Binghamton is not the greatest of cities but the campus is completely different. The atmosphere is great and most people that roam the university are friendly. The academics are what makes this college the top SUNY.

Categories Comments Greek Life Cannot really comment but I have heard its decent
Clubs and Activities Many clubs but a lot of them are poorly organized
Great for these types of students Very independent students with ambition that can outshine other hardworking students.
What to do for fun Play sports outside, make fun of the shabby events the school tries to set up
Tips for prospective students Do not go if your out of state unless you have an immense scholarship. Sign up for dorms early because there is a wide breathe of quality in terms of housing. Despite being a city, Binghamton feels isolated which is difficult for many students to cope with
In three sentences Unforgiving curriculum and weather. The atmosphere is great and the students are very friendly. There is a lack of interesting events and the town itself is also very dull.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Go downtown to the bars or any restaurant to eat with your friends. Also depending on your dorm, there are always activities going on which you can join. On warm days people usually go out and play sports, run or just tan.
Food and Dining You can get tired of the food in the dining hall because after a while it gets repetitive but you can always call for delivery or cook yourself.
Dorm Life It is very welcoming, doors are always open so you feel free to come in and chat with anyone in your floor. RA's are also very friendly and hospitable.
Academic Rigor BU has high expectations for its students academically but none are impossible to meet.
Tips for prospective students During the winter it gets very cold so it's important to have a good coat and snow boots so you won't fall on the hills. Buying food in the Union, Susquehanna, and Night Owl is always more expensive so it's better to buy it at any dining hall. Always ask for help from the professors, they can help you get your grade up.
In three sentences Binghamton University is a college that promotes independence and growth. It creates leaders for the future that are knowledgeable enough to face and handle everyday situations. Also it has a very inclusive policy which makes everyone feel welcome.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt threatened on this campus. Cars are not allowed on campus after 12am without proper ID, and there are accessible blue lights.
Greek Life Greek life is a big thing at Binghamton University. Frats have parties every weekend and most of the students here do attend these parties. However, there is still a way to have fun without having to partake in Greek life.
Clubs and Activities Binghamton University offers many different clubs and activities for many different people, so it's hard for someone to not find a club or activity they would like. Unfortunately, sometimes it is hard to find a club, but I promise there is a club for anything you can think of.
Great for these types of students Those who are into drinking, clubbing, bar-hopping, and attending a frat party every weekend. Also good for those who want to be tried academically without paying a large tuition. Also good for those who love nature.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Dickinson Community offers a lot of traditions, such as the Green Games and Mutant Mania, which are competitions among the different resident buildings within the Dickinson Community. The Nature Preserve on campus is a great place to explore.
Bang for the buck I live in New York State and am therefore offered in-state tuition. It is affordable, and provides the same curriculum and academic rigor as Cornell, without exceeding $20,000 a year.
What to do for fun Join lots of clubs and other extracurricular activities. Clubs meet every week and have food and other interesting activities. It's also the best way to meet people who have similar interests.
Food and Dining Binghamton University offers a variety of different kinds of food, and different areas on campus to get them. While the food itself is not always the best (it's either really good, decent, or just plan horrible), the variety offsets the sometimes less-than-par meals.
Dorm Life Dorming on campus is the best way to meet and connect with lots of people without having to really try. The residential life communities really make an effort to provide lots of fun activities for those who are living on campus, and making friends is often easy. It is not uncommon for whole floors to become close friends.
Academic Rigor Very rigorous. Sciences meet three times a week in addition to have a three hour lab once a week. Homework is assigned in all classes, and reading and participating is a fundamental part of all classes.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit before deciding whether to come here. Try and see if you can spend a day or so on campus with a current student to get a feel for what the campus can offer you socially. The school is pretty rigorous when it comes to academic, so be prepared to do some work.
In three sentences It lives up to it's public ivy name: the academics are rigorous, the resources plentiful, and the experience unique. A lot of the people hail from upstate New York and Long Island, but those who are from the city can still manage to find some fun and people to connect with. Vestal and Binghamton are two cities who provide an interesting college experience for its students.

Bang for the buck The school is not worth the price.
What to do for fun The school offers many clubs and sports teams.
Food and Dining The food is pretty good and the setup is nice.
Dorm Life Dorm experiences vary depending on roommate and personality types.
Academic Rigor The school is very challenging
Tips for prospective students The school may seem great but the price is something to take seriously because they are not willing to give financial help.
In three sentences The school is a great institution; however, the price is extremely high, and frankly, unnecessary.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Just be careful when going into the woods at night, but I never experienced or heard of anything horrible happen during my time at Binghamton.
Greek Life I don't get this, it's such a cliche...I'm sure it's as Greeky and fratty as all Greek life is as any other college or university. I wouldn't know, cause I don't really give a you-know-what (I can't curse in my review, this site won't let me).
Clubs and Activities Clubs are all student run, and there's great info on the Binghamton website if you wish to explore. There's a lot of clubs/activities...it would take me a long time to retype them from the website onto here. But it's hard not to get involve in at least something, because the variety of things to do here is very extensive.
Great for these types of students Outdoorsy, actively social, lovers of knowledge, people who are sick of city life, those who enjoy playing sports, artsy types, people who like to write.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Nature Preserve can be awesome if you don't ask for trouble when you're doing whenever it is you do in an isolated area away from authority and the campus police. Just watch out for some of the deer s@%t, it gets pretty bad in some corners of the woods.
Bang for the buck Binghamton is a school of phenomenal value, especially for New York residents (it is a SUNY school after all). Again, it largely depends how much effort you put into your time here at the university. If you spend your time doing nothing, and just attending your classes and letting the hours of your free time go to waste, you will feel ripped off. But for what it's worth, it's impossible to put a price on walking away thinking that your time here at the school were the best years of your life. Also, this school is cheaper than most of the others, look it up :P
What to do for fun Hiking, biking, reading outdoors, sports, skiing/snowboarding, bar-hopping, shopping, camping, bowling, and a ton of other stuff that I'm too lazy to type! It's really hard to be bored.
Food and Dining Ugh...I'm skipping this section, you can find out for yourself. HINT: it's terrible...but then again, you won't really care once you get here.
Dorm Life The dorms are cramped, ugly, and experience extreme weather patterns, and you will love every minute of your time in them. The halls can get loud and smelly, but you won't care enough to let it affect how much you will enjoy your time at Binghamton. It's the people around your dorm and your roommate(s) that matter, and it's so much fun getting to know a bunch of different people you'll be living in close proximity to. It's so incredibly awesome to be away from home and meet new interesting people. It just is. Dorm life is good, man.
Academic Rigor This varies among the schools at SUNY Binghamton. The School of Management (the school I'm in) is widely regarded as the most rigorous at the university, as well as one of the most prestigious in the country. But really, the degree of how rigorous the academics are depends mostly on the student than the material. I can't really summarize up how rigorous the academics are, for that all students are different, but it's what you make of your classes and extracurricular activities that determine how much effort you want to put into them to get things done. It can be extremely challenging or extremely easy depending on what school you are in and the classes you take. Just don't let yourself back away from a challenge, challenge is good! Remember, college costs money, make sure you get the most you can out of your academics!
Tips for prospective students If you plan to get a job within the area or at the school, apply as early as possible. I cannot stress this enough. There may be a specific deadlines for jobs on campus to apply, but the retail store and restaurants within the area can take applications in the summer before you arrive at the university. It may also be a good idea to divide personal spending money into two piles, one for the first semester and another for the second semester. Don't give yourself the freedom to spend it all in the first three months of school! But these are just typical tips to save money. There are more important types below. GET INVOLVED! MEET NEW PEOPLE! I'm sure you have heard these tips once or twice (or hundreds of times), but they are the best tips anyone can give a prospective student! For this particular school, riding a bike or hiking off campus through the rural landscapes are excellent ways to spend some of your free time. Not to mention that it does wonders for whenever you are feeling stressed or having trouble adjusting to life away from home. Once you fine a great view (and there are many) of the mountains and hills of New York, it's hard to let the little things get you down.
In three sentences Binghamton is a highly regarded public university located in the beautiful forests of rural New York. Although the buildings are rather boring and ugly, it's the incredible staff of professors and school employees that make it a wonderful place to spend your college years. It's a shame that the city nearby and the disgusting chain-restaurants and stores spoil what otherwise would be a perfect refuge from urban life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are things such as safe ride for those that fear the dark or for those that simply want some company walking back to their dorms after a long night of studying in the library.
Clubs and Activities So many to choose from, you will find one that you like.
Great for these types of students It will be great for those that are out-going and want to try new things. This university provides great opportunities for those that are adventurous and ambitious.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a lot of construction going on at the moment, so expect great things to come.
Bang for the buck This school is really affordable for a higher education institution. For the reputation it has, it probably costs about one third of what other private institutions may cost despite it being a public one.
What to do for fun Lots of clubs and extra curricular activities. There are many active groups and great ways to love and bring forth your forte.
Tips for prospective students If you are the city-type of person, this may not be the best place for you since it is quite nature-esk. However, if you want a change in surrounding then yes this is the place for you.
In three sentences Binghamton University is a very diverse and multi-cultural environment. Everyone is very accepting and respectful. The school itself is nice in terms of architectural aspects.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Binghamton has University Police that are always around. There is also a blue light system that students can use if they feel unsafe and the Police will respond in under three minutes. We also have something called Safe Ride, which any student can call to be picked up on campus and driven somewhere else on campus for free.
Greek Life Binghamton has both professional and social fraternities and sororities. There are options for anyone who is interested. Binghamton only has about 10% Greek Life, so it does not take over the entire campus life.
Clubs and Activities Binghamton has over 250 student run clubs and organizations. It is very simple to start a new club if anyone does not find what they are looking for in the existing clubs.
Great for these types of students Binghamton has a very diverse population, and we have no particular type of student. I have met people from very different backgrounds and everyone loves it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Each living community has traditions in which the individual dorm buildings compete against each other. Newing Navy in Newing, Woods Olympics in College-in-the-Woods, Salamander Days in Mountainview, Hinman Hysteria in Hinman and Mutant Mania in Dickinson are the large scale events held in each community.
Bang for the buck Binghamton is very inexpensive relative to our rival schools and gives a fantastic education to all students.
What to do for fun There is always something to do on campus and in the city of Binghamton. There are many local restaurants that students love to go to. These restaurants hold a restaurant week that students attend in which you can have meals to try out the different restaurants for much less money than usual. There is also something called First Friday in which the local art galleries open their doors to the people of Binghamton and the students from Binghamton University to attend for free with free food and beverages.
Food and Dining Each living community has their own dining hall, but students can eat at any dining hall they wish. Each dining hall has its own unique selection, such as a burrito bar, a Mongolian wok, a parfait bar and a Kosher dining section.
Dorm Life There are five living communities on campus and the apartment communities. Students within each living community have pride in their community and become very close with the other members of the community.
Academic Rigor I am always challenged at Binghamton University in all my classes. I have learned great study habits and found a way to balance all my classes with time for fun as well.
Tips for prospective students Work hard in high school to make your college applications as competitive as possible. Apply early and enjoy your senior year.
In three sentences Binghamton University is an amazing place to spend four years. There is never a dull moment in which I am without something to do. I have made my best friends and discovered who I truly am at Binghamton.

Clubs and Activities Everything from greeklife to zombie vs human clubs
What to do for fun So many clubs, theres a nature preserve so you can take walks all the time. Theres the downtown scene which is cool too.
Tips for prospective students The dorms go from high-class to projects. You get what you pay for, so keep money in mind.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is extremely safe. There are phones all around campus so if you need help, pick one up and the campus police will be there in seconds if need be. Also, look into Harper's Ferry!
What to do for fun If you're of age the bars are a lot of fun. For the youngsters, there is so much campus life happening. I suggest joining a club sport. Also, Binghamton has a lot of trips going on that are pretty cheap!
Food and Dining The food is typical of any campus dining. It's not amazing but it's not awful. Binghamton does have pretty delicious meals once in a while!
Dorm Life There is almost always something to do in the dorms. I suggest living in CIW because that is where I had my most fun. However, all the dorms are so much fun!
Academic Rigor I highly suggest going to office hours and making use of Bartle Library. Also, don't wait for the last minute to write that 10-page paper assigned in the beginning of the school year!
Tips for prospective students No matter what major you are, Binghamton is a difficult school. However, working your butt off and going to your professor's office hours will surely help you be a successful student!
In three sentences Binghamton has impacted my life in so amazing many ways. This isn't just a school but a place where you make great friends, increase your intelligence and have a once in a life time experience!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel safe on campus, but if someone does not feel safe there are blue phones that can be seen from anywhere on campus that will immediately call the campus police to your location.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs and activities for students to choose from including several musical groups (instrumental or a capella), science clubs, and even a sitting club. Students can join as many clubs as they choose or none at all, or they can even create their own club.
Great for these types of students BU is great for students who have a thirst for knowledge and students who are driven. Whether it's English, research, engineering, or math, There is something for everyone at BU.
Bang for the buck BU's bang for the buck is off the charts. It's a state school which makes it an incredible value for in-state students, but it is still an excellent value for out of state students. When I graduate, I will have accumulated no loans at all because I worked throughout my time at BU.
What to do for fun Binghamton has a lot to offer for its students outside of academics and research. For one, BU has a nature preserve with several acres of hiking trails, wilderness, and a beautiful pond. It's a great place to go relax and get away from work for a while. In the Binghamton area there are several movie theaters, bowling alleys, and mini-golf courses where students can go out with friends. Also, there are several local events such as First Friday which occurs on the first Friday of the month and is a large series of art shows in downtown Binghamton. If students are more into the night life, there are many bars in downtown Binghamton where students can go out with friends. There's never a dull moment in Binghamton.
Food and Dining The Sodexo food is pretty good most of the time. Nothing beats food from home, but BU's dining halls come pretty close. They also have themed food nights and each residence community has its own dining hall, so there is always one close by.
Dorm Life The dorms are great and many new ones are being build as I write this. There are always events for students and there are many types of dorm styles. Students can also live off campus after their first year.
Academic Rigor Nearly every class I have taken has challenged me in one way or another and I believe that is what college is supposed to do. College should challenge students to learn and also teach students how to learn while providing new perspectives and information.
Tips for prospective students To get into college anywhere students need to work hard and do well in their high school classes. BU students are life-long learners and thinkers who have a genuine interest in their chosen major. When applying, think about what makes you unique and why Binghamton is a good fit for you.
In three sentences Binghamton University is not only a great value, but it also provides an excellent education. I find my classes challenging me and BU offers an endless list of majors and extracurricular activities. Going to college at BU is money well spent.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Binghamton is a very safe campus. There is hardly any crime and when there is it is usually an intoxicated person doing something dumb.
Greek Life Greek life is big in this school. I have never been much for it. They can be very elitist at times.
Clubs and Activities Binghamton has so many clubs and activities and all of them are great.
Great for these types of students Any student imaginable. Athletes, socialites, exchange students, quieter folk, studious etc.
Bang for the buck For a state university Binghamton has got it going on. You can get a great education for a state university price.
What to do for fun Anything you can imagine. There are tons of clubs and tons of students who enjoy a plethora of activities. And of course the nightlife is pretty great.
Food and Dining Sodexo has it's good days and it's bad but overall the food isn't half bad.
Dorm Life Binghamton has a great dorm life. You can always find something to do and people are very sociable. Greek Life is not a necessity.
Academic Rigor Classes vary in difficulty and teaching styles. Some are surprisingly easy while some are shockingly hard. All in all work hard and you will do fine.
Tips for prospective students Enjoy your time and try to branch out as much as possible. You don't have to be in Greek Life to have a good group of friends. Have fun but study hard.
In three sentences Binghamton is a great place to go to school. The social life is great, you just have to find your niche. And the classes can be challenging but well worth it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is extremely safe. I've heard of relatively no incidences towards any student's safety on campus. The blue light safety boxes are scattered throughout campus within reasonable walking distance from any given point.
What to do for fun Well besides party scene off-campus there are plenty of gigs, events and food at LateNight in the Union. There are also community events with the town like First Friday which opens up all downtown art galleries to the public. On a regular weeknight there are always cool clubs and there are plenty of rec and club sports to participate in as well.
Food and Dining The food's ok, there are a few high and low points and each dining hall has something different to offer.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great! Binghamton has a lot of new on-campus housing and all the residence communities on campus have tons of activities and tools to help you enjoy your time at college and succeed.
Academic Rigor Classes can be tough especially depending on your major but you do get time to have a social life.
Tips for prospective students Get involved when you get there! Whether it's a club, your residence community government, or greek life, the people you meet at Binghamton will most probably be your friends for life. There are a lot of friendly and kind students

Categories Comments Campus Safety Plenty of cop cars patrolling around campus. The world is not safe but nothing major happens on campus.
Greek Life They are around. They tend to cause some controversy for the schools reputation but if you want to do it, they are open to new interests.
Clubs and Activities Something for everyone. A lot of social and cultural groups. Process to start your own is pretty straight forward if you are willing to work for it.
Great for these types of students Great school for the sciences. Entire school devoted to engineering. New technology centers built and more are being planned for the future.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You are bound to find something to your liking. Surrounding town is boring at times so do not expect much.
Bang for the buck Public school so cheaper than the ivy league schools. Bookstore off campus that give discounts on books. If you do not have parents who will pay for everything, you will need to watch your wallet closely.
What to do for fun Campus activities readily available. Plenty of student groups to join, and if you are willing, you can start your own. The surrounding area can give you something to do if you venture out. Greek life available.
Food and Dining Food quality not worth the cost.
Dorm Life Dorms are okay. New dorms were built but I have not been in them. People are friendly in the dorms. If you are open, you will meet people especially if you keep your door open during opening weekend.
Academic Rigor Tough classes if you do not take it seriously. Put in your study hours.
Tips for prospective students Buy a good jacket because the winters are brutal at times. Find a good group of people to hang out with when times get boring. Take advantage of career development center and professors office hour. Save up on money.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is always something to do on campus, whether it be going to a hall program, getting involved in extracurricular organizations and clubs, playing on a division 1, club, or intramural sports team, getting involved in the community, bowling at the on campus bowling alley, etc.
Food and Dining The dining options are fantastic. There are always a variety of types of foods available throughout the day. At any of the numerous dining halls on campus you can get Italian food (pizza, pasta, etc.), different kinds of stir fry, food and sandwiches from the grill and deli, salad and fruit from the salad bar, and much more. Plus, there are many non-dining hall options, such as the food court and other commercial food places, that you can purchase food from using your meal plan.
Dorm Life The residence halls are my favorite part of the Binghamton Experience. Split into five residence communities, students tend to identify themselves by community and not hall. These residence communities, made up of 4-5 dorms each, create the feeling of a small scale neighborhood where you get to know everyone at what is considered a medium sized school.
Academic Rigor The classes are interesting, but challenging. However, the faculty is engaged and willing to help.
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades up and get involved in extracurricular activities.
In three sentences A wonderful place to get a top notch, ivy league worthy education at a public university price. The residence communities are beautiful and the school spirit is astounding. This is definitely a place where you can find yourself and grow as a leader, a student, and a person.

Greek Life Greek life makes up approximately 15% of campus. That way one can be associated with Greek life but if one does not want to be they d not feel the pressure to try to be.
Clubs and Activities There is a huge variety of clubs on campus that are completely student run. Also, if you do not like a club you can always make your own!
Great for these types of students Students who like to be dedicated to their studies but also want to have fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are a lot of traditions on campus. To learn more go to reslife.binghamton.edu and look at each resident area's events and traditions, they are a lot of fun!
Bang for the buck The value is exceptional for the price tag. Binghamton students are very successful at finding jobs comparable to much more expensive schools.
What to do for fun Late night Binghamton, Hang out with friends, Go to a Baseball game
Food and Dining Good but does not change very often.
Dorm Life The dorms are pretty good. They are held up good and a lot of them are actually new.
Academic Rigor Academics are not too bad here, especially near the beginning.
Tips for prospective students -Get GenEds out of the way early! -If you're interested in Business apply to SOM! -Make sure you show admission that you want to be here during the application process.
In three sentences The professors for upper level classes are very knowledgeable and caring. The food is pretty darn good but the only problem is that it does not change. One bad thing though is that a lot of freshman course are taught by graduate students... they aren't the best.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is very good. There are state police that continually patrol the campus, all day and all night. There are also blue lights where students can go and use a phone to call the campus police if they ever feel unsafe, you can always see another blue light from the one that you are at. Also there is a campus safety vehicle that drives students where they need to go on campus in case they do not feel safe.
Bang for the buck The price of the school is very reasonable for a college student. The education is extremely good and the price only makes it better. Binghamton is known as the ivy league of SUNY schools.
What to do for fun There are many clubs and organizations that offer events and meeting for students. Binghamton also offers events every weekend, there is something called Late Nite Binghamton where students can go and bowl, play pool, play ping pong, eat free food and watch movies among other things. There is always something to do on campus.
Food and Dining The food is very good for a college campus. There is always a large variety of what students can eat and the quality of the food is very good. Certain parts of the menu change daily providing students with a larger variety of choices so that they never get sick of college food.
Dorm Life The dorm life is wonderful. The dorms are clean and safe at all times. The Resident Directors are very personable and get to know the students they are responsible for very well. They are always there for advice and help in any way possible. The dorms are somewhere that a student can truly feel at home.
Academic Rigor The classes are not easy, they require attendance and attention. Yet, if you put all your effort into doing well you will get a good grade in all your classes. The work requires time and effort, but a reasonable amount of time and effort.
Tips for prospective students Join as many clubs and organizations as you can to become as involved in the campus events as possible. Joining clubs and organizations can help you make good friends throughout your college years. Work hard in your classes and do not slack, if you put good effort in you will do well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Almost too safe, lots of cops and the campus cops are state troopers. Emergency phone boxes with blue lights all over in case something really goes wrong, which is nearly never does.
Greek Life In flux right now after recent bad press, but as a member of a fraternity, it's not nearly as bad as it seems on the outside.
Clubs and Activities There's something for everyone and if not it's very easy to start one yourself or with friends.
Great for these types of students Basically anyone who's lot looking for a strong fine arts or music education, and has a tolerance for cloudy days.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Each set of dorms has its own unique culture and even as a senior I'm still finding new hidden places on campus and off.
Bang for the buck It is what you make of it, if you try you'll have a great experience, but it won't be the time of your life if you seclude yourself in your dorm.
What to do for fun Hang with friends, party, volunteer.
Food and Dining On campus dining leaves a lot to be desired, but there're a lot of hidden gems out in the city.
Dorm Life A lot of fun if you meet the right people, and if not, there's always the option to move or hang out with the people you meet wherever they live.
Academic Rigor Depending on the major, it can be as difficult as if not more challenging than some Ivy League schools.
Tips for prospective students Try everything.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities Get involved on campus! You get out of a school what you put in no matter where you go. All the clubs are very social, and I've met several wonderful friends there.
Bang for the buck It's one of the best values in the country, and it being a suny school, it's one of the cheaper option out there. A little warning however, BU doesn't give away many scholarships.
Food and Dining It's good but not great. I recommend milkshake tuesdays though :P
Dorm Life BU has living communities which give it a small school feel with each community with it's own 'spirit'. Events are also held like dorm wars to pull everyone together as well
Academic Rigor I'm in the engineering program, so what can I say? It's tough, but I love it. Other majors that are less rigorous. All program give you enough downtime to meet up with friends, explore, and enjoy the area though.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for work! The engineering program is work, but prepare for a lot of fun too. BU has events going on all the time, and they're well worth looking at.

Dorm Life Dorm life is the usual. It depends on the community you're in. The only thing that makes the dorms not as fabulous is the ridiculous price tag.
Academic Rigor The workload can sometimes get pretty intense depending on your major.
Tips for prospective students If your looking for a school with a ton of school spirit, Bing is not for you. If you are emotional dependent on your parents, Bing is not for you. If you keep focused and study hard you'll do great!

Great for these types of students Science Majors, Engineers, Education, Nursing, Business, Pre-professionals, Arts
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Bowling Alley Arcade room Two gyms Swimming pools Volley ball courts and basketball courts in every community
Bang for the buck This is one of the cheapest SUNY's and it is definitely worth is compared to other schools. Textbooks can be expensive but that's typical wherever you go.
What to do for fun If you want to have fun going downtown on Friday nights and Saturday nights are good for parties. Also, the movie theater has amazing seats for you to get comfortable in. There is also many shopping centers around as well as many food places and a skating ring right off campus. On campus we have an indoor bowling alley as well as many pool tables and an arcade. There is also a thing call late night on Fridays and Saturdays were you can play Just dance, different arts and crafts, karaoke, eat dance etc! Newing/Dickinson is nice too its just crowded all the time. The food is good. There is a good variety of food but of course after some time you'll start craving for some home cooked meals.
Dorm Life Currently, I live in a designed triple and the room is huge. There is enough space for each of us without us getting in each others space. The campus is huge and living on campus makes it much easier to get to classes and events.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Campus has a large police present and seems very safe.
Greek Life Greek Life is active on campus both throwing parties and putting together charity events but don't join a frat here as the pledging is said to be a little rough and there has been hazing within the greek life on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs on campus, almost too many to chose from. A lot of the clubs can be a lot of fun to participate from and range from a large amount of dedication to a sparse amount of meetings throughout the semester.
Great for these types of students The college is good for those who are looking to be socially active and possibly join a frat but also for those looking to succeed in school but not sure what they want to do in college yet.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Parade day is a full day activity that basically involves a full day of partying and watching of a parade. Almost everyone goes out on parade day and it is an amazing day with tons of exciting things going on in Binghamton.
Bang for the buck The college is a very well priced SUNY as there is so many opportunities and you get a lot of the same opportunities you get at private colleges. The price is worth it as long as you take the effort to look for the opportunities.
What to do for fun You can join a club on campus or spend your weekends going downtown. There are tons of options that allow you to have a great time while still getting your work done.
Food and Dining Sodexo food is not great but you get used to it and occasionally it can be good. It is extremely convenient to use though and get food.
Dorm Life There are a lot of activities you can participate in but none seem too interesting. All activities are a lot less fun then going out and hanging out downtown with friends at nice houses and apartments.
Academic Rigor Certain classes at Binghamton require a lot of to get a good grade including many late nights spent studying or writing an essay but there are a lot of classes that you can get by on by not doing much in class or outside of class.
Tips for prospective students The school is not incredibly difficult to get into just make sure you have a variety of activities that you participate in to show that you are active. Also Binghamton is relatively cheep but you should still apply for scholarships to save the money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety If you are concerned for your safety, don't fret. Binghamton University is an extremely safe campus. University Police are always around and readily available. The university even has a student run medical service with Harpur's Ferry that will get an ambulance to you as soon as possible. If you are walking around at night on campus and need a ride, safe ride taxis are available to you for free. Binghamton University is probably safer than your home neighborhood!
Bang for the buck With low tuition and reasonable housing costs, Binghamton is the premier SUNY institution.
What to do for fun The fun never stops at Binghamton University. The student union building has a bowling alley and a billiards room with multiple tables open throughout the day and even during the night with Late Nite Binghamton. Late Nite Binghamton starts at 11pm and includes various activities planned by clubs and students. Movie screenings of popular recent movies are also offered at Late Nite Binghamton. Throughout the campus there are basketball courts and open fields suitable for football, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. The recreational centers, where you will find a state of the art fitness center offers indoor sports like racquetball and basketball. If you are a swimmer, the fitness center has an indoor pool for you. If you are a runner, a full track field is located right outside the rec center. If you want even more fun, join one of the hundreds of clubs or one of the 52 Fraternities/Sororities available that all have their own planned activities throughout the school year. At Binghamton University, there is no time to be bored!
Food and Dining Food services at Binghamton University are catered by Sodexo. I arrived at the school expecting poor quality food and was astounded at how good the food actually was. There are several dining halls on campus with similar menus, yet each dining hall offers different varieties of food. Entree's are served for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Pizza lovers will find fresh pies all day long as well and if you like burgers and chicken fingers, the grill offers these at every dining hall location. If you're in the mood for a sandwich, they are served at all hours during the day. International foods are introduced from time to time as well. Some foods are indeed better than others, but the average quality of the food is without a doubt splendid.
Dorm Life The dormitories in Binghamton are fantastic and living among your peers in a friendly environment sure is spectacular. There are regular doubled rooms in corridor-styled communities as well as communities with suites. Regardless of where you live, you have access to many study areas if you want to get out of your room. There are also some game rooms that have ping-pong or even billiards. Dining halls are located a short walk from your building that makes it easy for you to eat your meals. You are free to come and go as you please and hang out with friends whenever you want; you're an adult now!
Academic Rigor There is a lot of reading that is required for many classes, some more than others of course. You should expect to be writing some papers as well around the same time you need to study for an exam in another class. The major thing about college classes is that each professor finds their class to be your number one priority; assignments can overlap and you may be jammed with a lot of work, especially during midterms and finals.
Tips for prospective students A few important things to keep in mind if attending Binghamton University: Pack WARM clothes. This city can get really cold, real quick. However, do NOT pack too much clothes! You simply do not need too many outfits. Also, do go overboard buying any school supplies before you get to the school, depending on your classes, all you might need is a pen, a pencil, a folder, and loose-leaf paper. Additionally, be wary of your meal plan allowance, because even though you are billed around $2000 for the year, you are only allotted $800 in the Fall and then the other $800 in the Spring. Don't go spending too much money on groceries available in the school with your meal plan, instead go to Walmart or Target! Finally, always go to class of course! The amount of freedom you have distorts your perception of reality, and soon enough, your coursework will catch up with you and you will have many sleepless nights catching up! Most importantly of all, make friends of course, and enjoy your stay at Binghamton!
In three sentences This is the most beautiful campus you will find in a New York State University, hands down. Faculty, staff and even students are all very amiable and the entire campus feels like a family. The social life itself will make you forget home!

Categories Comments Campus Safety This is school is really safe. Nothing really happens here, and you always see Campus PD protecting our students. During the night we have escort services to walk student to there rooms safely, plus we have vans that can take students anywhere on campus for Free.
Clubs and Activities This school has over 100 club, and activities. Plus it offers intramural, and club sports.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students that don't mind working hard, and at the same time partying hard.
Bang for the buck This school is great. Since it's SUNY it's pretty cheap compared to the other private schools, but you still receive the same type of academics that is being offered at other Private schools.
What to do for fun There's a lot of things to do for fun here. Each weekend students head to frat parties, clubs, and bars. Partying is big in this university, but it does not affect our academics. Also binghamton university has something called late night for those students that does not like partying. That way they can have fun doing other things on campus during the weekends. Plus there's malls, museums, school games, that students can go to.
Food and Dining Food here is pretty okay for college. Each residential community has their own dining hall. Dining hall contains a lot of varieties of food. Also in each dining hall contains something called night owl. Night owl is open from 8 PM to 1 AM. But on weekends night owl is open for a longer time to accommodate party goers, open until 4 AM.
Dorm Life Here in Binghamton they're residential communities. Communities are Hinman, Dickinson, Newing, Mountain View, Susquehanna, and Hillside. The last two mentioned are apartment style residence, which is only available to upperclassman. Hinman, and Mountain View are suite style. Dickinson, and Newing are corridor style. Mind you, they are constructing a new Dickinson, so it will be brand new for incoming students during the 2013 year. Newing and Mountain View are new as well, and Hinman will be the oldest yet most social of the communities here in binghamton,.
Academic Rigor Classes are hard, professors ask for a lot, but it is possible to end with a high GPA. This school wants to compete with fellow ivies, and just because they are a public university doesn't mean they can't ask for a lot in their students. Prepare to work hard, and to push yourselves, because there's a reason why we can say that we are the best public University in the northeast. The numbers don't lie.
Tips for prospective students If you interested in this school just know that there's a lot to do here. Binghamton isn't a boring area, and the free buses here can take you almost anywhere for free.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There's always something to do for fun. From clubs and fitness exercise groups to taking a stroll around the Nature Preserve to hanging out with your friends at Late Nite each weekend in the union, there's always something to do.
Food and Dining Sodexo is a terrible food service provider. Many people get sick from the food and they don't devote all of the necessary time needed to prepare special food for those who have special needs.
Dorm Life Everyone enjoys their dorm life whether they are living the suite life or living in the long corridors of CIW, Dickinson, or Newing. The best part about living on a floor is all of the people that you get to meet. If you don't get along with your roommate, there's always a lounge with people.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult but not impossible, that is if the student puts forth as much effort as the professors do.
Tips for prospective students A great decision was made in choosing Binghamton University. Make sure that you familiarize yourself with the various clubs, there's one for everyone!
In three sentences Binghamton is a wonderful place to be. It has prestige and more than what students look for in a school. It's definitely worth each penny.

What to do for fun BU and the Binghamton area provides much to do if your willing to look hard enough. If you love the outdoors, you'll love Broome County. Campus groups are constantly offering various gatherings, club memberships, and parties.
Food and Dining My advice would be to learn to cook for yourself. If you count on others to feed you, you have no right to critique anything.
Dorm Life I cant speak to this because I've never lived in a dorm, nor would I ever.
Academic Rigor My claases have been challenging but not unrealistically so. LIke any school, you get out of it what you put in.

Bang for the buck Great value; besides the meal plans.
What to do for fun There are limitless options for fun at Binghamton. Though most people take cover from their academic lives in the social sphere of the fraternity houses and bars downtown, there are tons of other activities to participate in. The campus owns an enormous nature preserve with clearly marked trails that is a great hike, and the surrounding Binghamton area has many (very well) hidden gems.
Food and Dining Food is handles through Sodexo, and is a giant rip off. The meal plans are very over priced for somewhat unappetizing food.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty great. With 5 different living communities, the housing is diverse and suited to your style.
Academic Rigor Binghamton's academics, in particular their science and business, are very demanding and high quality.
Tips for prospective students If you're sure about Binghamton, apply early action. Otherwise, weigh your choice wisely. There are many students here that didn't choose Binghamton as a first choice. If you apply, make sure you like it.

Dorm Life The RA create many fun events for the students living in the building although they are usually lame in a sense and most people don't attend them. Dorm life is okay but I have seen better at other schools.
Academic Rigor It is far more competitive then you imagine. People study really hard and there are many kids how are more intelligent then you would believe. The school is competitive and teachers do not grade easily.
Tips for prospective students apply for aid and scholarship from the school. make a schedule the works best for you and make sure you actually try first semester and don't get carried away doing other things.
In three sentences Binghamton is a good school, you get a decent education for the money and will have a good time however you will find the weather to be a big downer and at times you will feel as if there's nothing to do.

Academic Rigor Comparable to Ivy League schools, Binghamton offers a great education at a fraction of the cost.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe. Campus has its own police. They are always driving around. There are blue lights to press for help all over campus. We have our own ambulance too. Counseling Center.
Greek Life OK. Some hazing. Frat houses are run down. Nothing upscale.
Clubs and Activities So many clubs and groups that you could find one you like.
Great for these types of students All types of students but would reconsider if you want to be on a good sports team!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a huge nature preserve that people go to explore and hike.
Bang for the buck Definitely a good school for what you pay. Save money!
What to do for fun Clubs, volunteering, if you don't like to party there is Late Night that hosts various activities until about 2 am. If you like to party you can too easily. There are lots of ethnic clubs too.
Food and Dining Dining Halls aren't the best, but decent. Meal plans aren't unlimited.
Dorm Life We have some good dorming communities and there are brand new ones being built to replace the old ones. They feel like a hotel! Suites are available and single rooms too. Single rooms aren't available to first year though. Much larger dorms then everywhere I visited.
Academic Rigor It's college. Classes are going to require you to do lots of works. There will be some easy ones, but still.
Tips for prospective students This school is NOT for athletes. Not many people watch the games and we lose often. Many students here don't even know about what sports we have. Categories Comments Bang for the buck If I was an undecided in state student it may be worth it going to Binghamton just so I didn't have to go to community college, however, being out of state, it's definitely not worth it.
What to do for fun Not much great party night life but if you're not into drinking there's cheap bowling and pool and board games and stuff every weekend in the center of campus.
Food and Dining If I could give it a zero I would. It's run by Sodexo and they most likely put laxatives in the food to keep us healthy. You have a certain amount of dining money to spend under your meal plan and if you want to eat healthy it's going to be expensive. They always brag about their great deals but that's only if you think it's okay to live of of cheap, greasy pizza and plastic bagels.
Dorm Life Depending on where you land freshman year it can be awesome. If you don't like the community your'e in you first year then you're pretty much screwed. Switching communities is almost impossible with the messed up housing sign up they have.
Academic Rigor It's an ongoing joke that the School of Management never has work while Harpur college works so hard. If you know you want to major in something with in the School of Management apply there right away because otherwise you'll end up with warped GPA when applying from Harpur to SOM.
Tips for prospective students Good for business, engineering, nursing and accounting but if you're looking to pursue the liberal arts, don't go here.
In three sentences Binghamton is not all I hoped it to be. The weather is always gloomy and for a girl who likes to have fun, the night life isn't all that great.
