    Campus Safety

At Meramec you will find a helpful and friendly staff of campus police that assist with vehicle related problems such as jump starts and lockouts. They will assist students to their cars upon request, and handle lost-and-found items.

    Clubs and Activities

Meramec campus has a great variety of clubs and organizations. They have free Friday movie nights, they have clubs from Chemistry Club to Sculpture Club. They have a list of special events and festivals that are also free to attend.

    Bang for the buck

Academic Center, Math Center and Writing Center are a huge plus! You can go to each one and get all the help you want for just being a student, the campus library has private rooms you can study in or with groups, there is even a quite area to study in and not worry about hearing noises.

    What to do for fun

Meramec campus has a ton of fun clubs to choose from, you can even take elective classes from painting/drawing to a musical class.

    Food and Dining

Throughout the campus their are vending machines with healthy choices of snacks. The cafeteria has a wide variety of healthy meals to select from. It's spacious and a clean eating area.

    Academic Rigor

You must have at least a 2.0 before you will be placed on academic probation and guided to bring failing grades up. Once your grade in a class lowers it's tough to bring it back up and requires full attention.

    Tips for prospective students

Even if you take just 12 credit hours be prepared to have time to do homework and out of class assignments. Having a part time job if necessary should not be a reason to effect your school work. Be ready to take as much notes as you can, you can never have enough notes. Always be sure to revise your notes and re-write them to study.

    In three sentences

St.Louis Community College Meramec campus by far is very organized and well connected. The professors are always prepared and on topic, the students care about their assignments and grades. I enjoy the assistance they offer to students for more support out of the class rooms.

    Campus Safety

I have never had or seen any problems on campus. There is police presence, and I feel safe.

    Clubs and Activities

There are opportunities to connect with others on campus.

Great for these types of students

Returning students - an excellent place to begin a second degree or career change.

    Bang for the buck

County and city residents only pay $93 per credit hour. Considering the surrounding MO schools, this is very good and many pre-req classes for other universities can be taken at STLCC!

    Academic Rigor

There is no room for slacking in these classes; if you try hard, you will do well, but you must apply yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to go for it; you will get back as much as you put into it.

    In three sentences

The physics department is excellent, there are a lot of opportunities for those who try hard. Professors reach out to students who are willing to learn. I feel that it is preparing me well for my next step in life.

    Campus Safety

I see campus safety constantly patrolling; I see a security car at least every five minutes when not in class. There are also many street lights and emergency stands all throughout campus.

Great for these types of students

STLCC is great for students that are not 100% sure of what they want to do in the future. It is also great for those students that are on a budget or want to stay at home a little longer. It is also great for anyone else who would like to attend community college and learn what community is all about.

    Bang for the buck

I totally think you get more than what you pay for. You would go to a university and pay three to four times as much for tuition and get the same professors and education as you can here at STLCC.

    What to do for fun

STLCC almost always has something fun to do, at least once a month. Every Friday they offer $1 movies to students (good and new ones), drama plays, and free food events. There is almost always something going on there.

    Food and Dining

The food offered by STLCC is really really good. I love going in there and eating a delicious lunch with my friends. However, the campus prices are a little steep.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at STLCC is nonexistent, as there is none.

    Academic Rigor

I would rate the academic rigor the same as a four year college or university, as most professors teach at both and expect their students' best no matter where they are attending. However, just like at all other colleges, there are some really easy classes/professors and some really hard ones.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be under the impression that community college is easier than a university, because its not. Most of the professors at STLCC also teach at other universities and hold STLCC students to the same standards. Its just way cheaper to go here :)

    In three sentences

St. Louis Community College was an unexpected surprise for me; I did not expect to experience the same things at the community college level that I did at a four year university. St. Louis Community College has everything a university has with way lower costs. I have attended numerous campus events and have to work just as hard in my classes as those students at four year universities.

    Dorm Life

no dorms they would be nice but its so many campuses around.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

St.louis community college is the best. As a student not able to pay a lot for an education, its cost effective and i am getting the same education as my friends at other colleges. I enjoy the school a lot.

    What to do for fun

In college their are many things to do for fun. During the nice weather, students will play in the student center outside or a lot of them will play their instruments. STLCC also offers a lot of different clubs that you can look into. There is a variety of different clubs offered you can easily find the one you may like the most.

    Food and Dining

I don't eat food on the campus. I have classes in the morning, so i go home and eat food after classes.

    Dorm Life

I do not stay on campus and their are not any dorms around.

    Academic Rigor

The types of classes you take and your experience in that subject will help you with your grades. Some classes are easy, while others are a lot harder. Many college classes want you to be able to read the text book on your own and even take notes on your own if you want to be able succeed in that class.

    Tips for prospective students

One main tip I have for all future collage students is get to class in time. In college, the professors do not want you to be late and they want you in class on time. Many of my teachers get annoyed when students always walk in late. I have one teacher that will lock the door for the class if you are not on time.

    In three sentences

STLCC-Meramec is a great school to get your college career started. The professors are great and will help their students do the best they can in the class. Going to a community college has helped me decide what I want to do in the future without wasting money at a University.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

There are clubs galore at STLCC! Many students enjoy the womens softball and a cool point to mention is that David Freese (St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Player) played baseball through STLCC.

    Food and Dining

Awesome food and almost anything can be requested and cooked to order. Prices are kind of exspensive but it's not too bad.

    Dorm Life

STLCC doesn't have dorms because it's a community college. I've never lived in a dorm though I have stayed in them a few times. I would love to be apart of the dorm life but in order to have that kind of life, this surveying process became necessary.

    Academic Rigor

I find my biggest challenges in school that I face, are in math. It has been a struggle to keep up with the work because the material is hard to hold and understand. Homework is a challenge because no one else walks you through it except you, yourself, and your notes or book. As long as I continue to work through my struggles with my professor and the math tutors, any student, including myself can do it. The classes are easy if homework is kept up with.

    Tips for prospective students

If I could give advice to an incoming student, I would say go to a community college like this one first. This school offers an excellent education on a ramen noodle kind of budget. The good thing about this is that students are able to get their general education courses out of the way for an extreme fraction of the cost. Another tip I would suggest to an incoming student, would be to keep up with their work. This school has so many different places for help such as free math tutoring and free writing labs. The writing labs are nice because they allow students to write their papers and have them proofread by a professional. A lot of times, professors will give you extra credit on their assignments by going to see these professionals prior to the due date of an assignment.

    In three sentences

This school has wonderful perks for students including but not limited to the ability to use library databases for free, free lunch on various days throughout the semesters, and multiple computer labs on campus to print for free as well. Most importantly STLCC has awesome teachers who really seem to care about succeeding as their students. The classes offered every semester is also very nice because it has a huge range of subjects for everyone's needs.

    What to do for fun

The campus is not really geared for fun. The student union/cafeteria is the closest thing to fun I suppose.

    Dorm Life

Does not apply. Most students commute.

    Academic Rigor

You get what you put into the classes. The core classes are every bit as tough as any university.

    Tips for prospective students

Select a major and work backwards to be sure your classes will meet your needs. One of their major goals is for the student to graduate, not necessarily help you transfer or meet your needs.

    In three sentences

St. Louis Community College is very bureaucratic. If you are a typical student and have a declared major, it is easy to navigate and do well. Most of the teachers and advisors are helpful and care about students.

My best event was the dating game held in the Cafeteria near Valentines day, everyone had a great time with lots of laughs.

    Food and Dining

The food here at the college is excellent and most of all affordable, which for us college students is very important. I like the fact that they also cater to students who are health conscious and want to eat a nutritious meal for breakfast or lunch.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately here at Saint Louis Community College-Forest Park there are no dorms. All students reside off campus either on their own, with parents, or other establishments.

    Academic Rigor

The work here at Saint Louis Community College-Forest Park is not as easy as some may think, however if you are having problems in certain areas you can be sure that the school will accommodate that using campus services are courses that fit your needs. Meramec clubs are fun, and there is always something going on around campus!

The campus feels very safe to me. There are many security guards on all campuses.

    Greek Life

There are no fraternity's or sororities.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities, but one I can think of off the top of my head.

Great for these types of students

    First time college students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

None that I can think of.

    Bang for the buck

If you have an A plus scholarship, use it here. Don't use it at a university. You can get 2 free years here and a degree all for free. You will be receiving the same education as you would at any other college. This way you'll be saving about $30,000 if you go to stlcc over a university. Then after you complete those two years you can transfer to any university you want. It also increases your chances of getting into a school because universities tend to accept transfer students more than first time freshmen. I have had many friends go off to school and then a semester or a year goes by and they're sitting next to me at stlcc because they couldn't handle college life right out of high school. Community college is a great transition. It gives you a taste of what to expect. So then when the time comes to transfer you're ready to be at the university and experience the full on college life, but you'll be doing it with some experience under your belt.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of clubs on campus. I have not joined any because I have a busy schedule as it is, but everyone seems to enjoy whatever they're apart of!

    Food and Dining

There's a small cafeteria at some of the larger campuses that have decent food. I've never heard any complaints. Another onus is almost once a month at the south county campus there's always a day where they have a free lunch. Sometimes it's a taco bar, soup and salad, sandwiches and chips, or even brats and hot dogs. I always thought that was pretty awesome.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms, you'll be living at home, so life is pretty good.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are decently rigorous. I'd say my time spent at stlcc I had about a medium level of hard work. Some classes were a breeze, others not so much, but I never got anything below a C.

    Tips for prospective students

When coming into stlcc don't expect to be babied like you were in high school. Although the atmosphere may be similar to high school, you are expected to be treated and act like an adult. So that means you always show up for class, be respectful, and always do your work. If you follow those three rules, you will be successful.

    In three sentences

St. Louis community college is the best to prepare you for college life. A good majority of the faculty are very helpful, and want to see you succeed not only as a student, but as a working adult. Overall I feel that my time at St. Louis community college has been well spent, and I would recommend it to anyone.

There is a long list of clubs and organizations that each campus has to offer. And once your hooked in a good one, your college experience (before transferring to a University) will be extremely worthwhile.

    Food and Dining

The food is really good, especially around holidays. Rumor has it that we have a soul food mastermind at the Florissant Valley campus.

You must keep up with your studies. They aren't going to baby you and hold your hand all the way through, but if you show that you want to learn, then they will do everything to make sure you learn everything that you need to know and then some.

    Tips for prospective students

Staying on top of your school work and everything else is important, no matter what school you choose to go to. One thing to remember though, you are not in this alone. Utilize everything that the college has to offer, including the teachers. Everyone is there to help you succeed and get ready for that next step in your life.

    What to do for fun

As for this campus the only thing to do for fun is to leave. At another branch of STLCC they have many different plays that are entertaining to attend.

    Food and Dining

This is probably the best aspect of this campus, the cafeteria offers a wide selection of food that is worth trying. It is more convenient than having to leave campus and most items are reasonably priced.

    Dorm Life

This school does not offer a dorm option.

    Academic Rigor

There are a lot of students here who want to try and succeed, but for every one of those students there is one or more who go to school to have something to do. They do not really care about their classes or work.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip I can tell a student looking to come to STLCC Forrest Park is to make it your last option. Maybe other branches of the school are better, I have not been to them, but I would not make this my first choice as a school.

    In three sentences

I would rate STLCC Forrest Park as not that good of a school. Most of the teachers here are very capable of teaching, but the staff for the school is not in the least bit helpful. Its like they do not care about you as a student.

The variety of clubs allow the different personalities and characters to find groups where they will fit in and enjoy themselves. In addition to that, this college has a huge interest in baseball, which is why the campus baseball fields are always packed with athletes who want nothing more but to enjoy themselves. You can be one of these athletes!

I also suggest seeing an adviser at the beginning of the semester for more clarification on the State Requirements and General Education courses that are mandatory.
