Great for these types of students

This campus is great for students who love a smaller campus surrounding. Students who plan to major in nursing. Salisbury has a great nursing program. Our soccer team and lacrosse team are very good, so if you love those sports, COME TO SALISBURY!

    Tips for prospective students

Worth every bit of the money spent. It all go towards a very nice and clean campus. It's not an expensive college. The food provided in our commons is AMAZING! We have days such as Lobster day, make your own pizza day, different culture cuisine days, etc. Worth every penny. Looking throughout the campus and academic buildings, it shows that the money wasn't put to waste.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Salisbury, but overall the school is too small for me. I love being around a lot of people, therefore I rather be at a bigger school, which is why I am considering Towson University. At Salisbury, I see almost the same students who have the same major in many of my classes. It's about a 10 minute walk from the start of campus to the end of campus. Not that big at all. Although it's a small school, there's a lot to do on campus. There are many clubs to join. I joined club volleyball and softball and enjoyed it very much. They have different contests and activities between the dorm halls. The campus throws parties for the whole campus. There's a lot to do on and off campus, but if you're looking for a big school, Salisbury isn't for you.

    Am learning a lot

I will be entering my sophomore year this fall 2009. As a freshman I was nervous to finally be in college, I wasn't sure how it would be. The thought of just graduating high school and now having to grow up and be a college student was a big step. I entered my first class which was biology and it was a class of 90 students. Although it was a huge class, the teacher took the time to explain in depth every topic. If a student had a question, the teacher stopped and made sure everyone understood before he moved on. I ended up with a B in the class as well as a much broader knowledge for biology.

Great for these types of students

Salisbury has such a diverse campus, there are so many clubs to join, majors to study, and people to meet, there will never be a dull day at SU.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to be outgoing and make new friends. In high school I was interested in Habitat for Humanity but never went to the meetings. During the fall semester, the club had a meeting, and I decided to go, on my own, without knowing anyone. It was one of the best decisions I made at Salisbury, I met some amazing people, and get to hang out with them while helping others. I also pledged a sorority in the spring which was amazing. I never thought I'd see myself in a sorority, but after attending interest meetings, and seeing how close the girls are, and how they actually act like sisters, I knew that was the kind of relationship I needed at Salisbury to feel at home.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury is expensive for out of state students, but manageable. They have a specific program for out of state nursing students, if you are accepted into SU's nursing program, and work in the state of Maryland for 4 years after graduation, Salisbury will lessen your tuition to the in-state rate. I know that college will affordable if I do get into the program, but finding the loans now with the current out of state rates is the hardest part.

    Am enjoying being here

Salisbury University has been a dream come true for me. Attending SU was the best decision I have ever made. My parents had always believed I would stay in state, close to home for college due to financial reasons, but I had bigger dreams. I am paying for my education at Salisbury all alone, and am enjoying every moment spent here. I joined a sorority my second semester, and met many of my best friends throughout our experiences that semester. Everyday my parents tell me just how proud of me they are for going through with my dream, and being brave enough to take on such a huge debt alone, and begin a new life in a new state. The transition to Salisbury was hard at first, since I did not know a single person there. But through extra curricular activities, and being outgoing making friends was no problem at all. I would recommend Salisbury University to anyone who wants an amazing education, and the opportunities of a lifetime.

    Am learning a lot

Salisbury classes are a decent size usually. My anatomy and physiology class was the biggest with over 120 students. It is a lot of students, but the teachers realize this, and take their time explaining topics, until every student understands the material. Teachers are always available during office hours to help tutor students, or review the days lecture if needed.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students looking for a medium-sized school- its the perfect size to meet lots of new people, but also see familiar faces. It is also good for strong athletes who don't want the hype of a D1 school- we're D3, but very competitive. If you love the beach its great for that too because we're only 25 miles from Ocean City :)

    Tips for prospective students

Go to the club fair... there is something for everyone and is a great way to meet people with common interests.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury is relatively inexpensive as far as colleges go. Yet it still provides a strong education, nice dorms (they are currently in the process of renovatiing all the freshman dorms so provide private bathrooms, so they are only going to get nicer), and fantastic food (the dinning hall has a large variety and makes special meals for every holiday. it also has food events sometimes like lobster night and make your own pizza night).

    Am enjoying being here

Being at Salisbury has been an exciting adventure; there are many things about it that I love. There are so many clubs, there is definitely something for everybody. The school also brings a lot of good comedians and performers (all free for students!). I also think the school is really strong in providing lots of opportunities for freshman students to meet each other and get connected.

    Am learning a lot

I have completed my first semester at Salisbury and have taken 4 classes so far. I did very well in all four classes and feel that I have learned a lot so far. I accredit this success to many sources. First, the class sizes. My anatomy and physiology was rather large, about 80 students, but my other classes were much smaller. Two classes had about 25 students and one had only 15 students. The smaller classes allowed for more personal attention. Teacher were able to answer questions during class and hold class discussions that supported whatever we were learning. Second, although I loved only 3 out of 4 of these teachers and found the other decent, they were all very encouraging and wanted to see their students succeed (even the least tolerable of the four) and were willing to help when you need the extra assistance. Every teacher has office hours multiple times per week and many will meet at other times as well if you make an appointment. If you feel you need additional help or you just don't think your teacher is your best match the Center for Student Achievement offers tutoring and study skills workshops. There is also a writing center to help you with papers and resumes.

Great for these types of students

Those who like the small campus feel but actually want a campus with alot to offer. Sometimes the smaller campuses have nothing for the students recreationally speaking. Since SU is about 7,000 students it is large enough to offer clubs and programs, but small enough to not overwhelm a person.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get your work done. I know its liberating to be out of your parents house and be able to do whatever you want but that will all change quickly if you get put on academic probation because you went out with friends more than you studied.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury University is one of the cheapest in state schools for Maryland. In fact, to be honest it is not horribly expensive for out of state students either. And the cost is definitely worth it. I love the campus and enjoy that classes.

    Am enjoying being here

It is very easy to find your place on campus. The very first week that you're here there is an activities fair that literally every club and organization on campus has a booth at. In fact that is how I got involved with the club that I am with now. The members of this club have since become a sort of family away from my family. When you go on school tours and see all these random students smiling at you, you probably think that its all set up (I know that I did). But at SU, it really seems to be true. People smile at me all the time all over campus.

    Am learning a lot

Although I am currently involved in mainly General Education courses (as most freshman are) the classes have been very fun and informative so far. The teachers (although can sometimes seem a bit crazy) truly care about what they are teaching and want others to come to care about it as well. Yes, the classes are much harder than those in high school, and I'm not going to lie to you, it is a ton more work. However the end results are fantastic.

Laid-back, people who don't want a huge school, People who like to party, people who like the beach

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused and enjoy your time. The campus and people are great, so take advantage of that and have fun.

    Bang for the buck

This is a very cheap school compared to anything out of state, and in state rates are relatively cheap. The money you pay provides many great resources, such as the library, which is a great resource.

    Did enjoy being here

The campus is great and so are the people. It's very easy to make friends and it's a very laid back campus. The dorms are not the highest quality, but it comes down to what you make of the situation.

    Did learn a lot

The professors are great and were more than willing to help you with anything you need. Take advantage of their office hours, they are very helpful!

Great for these types of students

Salisbury is great for students who want a college that's small and has classroom sizes that can average between 25-35 most of the time. The professors are friendly and want to help the students succeed. No matter what gender, race, or sexual orientation someone is, they will feel very comfortable on the campus. Also if you have school pride, you fit in perfectly with the other Salisbury Seagulls!

    Tips for prospective students

Do not stay in your dorm, you will get bored and will make no friends. Explore and open yourself up! Try your best to get along with your roommate and the people you share a bathroom with. Me and my first roommate hardly spoke and I got tired of trying to involve her in things so we ended up not speaking to each other. At the end of the semester I got a new roommate and we hit it off so much better! It might have been because she came from a bad situation and this new one was much better, but either way we were both happy and are close. If you're having problems with someone, it's a very smart idea to talk to your RA or RD as soon as possible before things get out of control. One last thing, GO TO CLASS!!! It will make things so much easier for you and you won't be panicking with your tests and work at the last minute.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like tuition and room and board are at a responsible price for what you get through the campus. They're currently updating the dorms on-campus and they are really lovely to be in.

    Am enjoying being here

Although there isn't much to do around the campus, there is a bowling alley that is about 5 minutes away and a mall in the opposite direction that's about 10 minutes away. The campus does things on campus to keep the students occupied, like speakers, comedians, a spring concert, SU Idol and movies on the weekend. I thought that when winter break came I wouldn't miss Salisbury, but I was clearly mistaken. You will end up missing the school because of the friends and memories that you have made. It was a pleasant surprise to me.

    Am learning a lot

I'm only in my basic, general classes right now so I'm not learning things that I didn't already know. I will say that it is a good review for the more advance classes I will be taking in the future, so I don't mind being retaught these things. As long as you pick the right professor, you will feel like you have a better understanding of the material. I was told by some of my professors that if you can explain the information to someone else, then they feel their job has been complete and they won't stop helping until you get the material.

    Campus Safety

There are 'bluelight' buttons scattered around campus which summon the police. The campus police are easily accessible as well. However, the surrounding areas have caused Salisbury to become more crime-ridden than Baltimore city.

    Greek Life

From what I hear, Greek life at SU lost their privileges for housing a few years ago, so they must live as every other student does. I hear TKE has a reputation for dangerous parties. Just be careful and don't overdo the drinking scene.

    Clubs and Activities

SU has a good selection of clubs, and always has a great array of programs and activities. Many activities are sponsored and organized by various clubs. For example, SU's annual Oktoberfest, organized by the German club, is the highlight of October.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who wants a great education without paying way too much

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Beach nearby, zoo with the 'depressed' bear, the campus is a natural arboretum

    Bang for the buck

You get out of your academic experience only the effort that you put in! Take classes that aren't just 'easy As' and put forth your best effort and you will be rewarded with a wealth of knowledge for a great bargain price (especially if you're a MD resident)!

    What to do for fun

The zoo is nice (and free), there are several parks, and the beach is only about a 30 minute drive. SU also offers lots of events, activities, and programs.

    Food and Dining

Not bad--everyone raves about the commons (meal plan dining hall). There's also a coffee place (Cool Beans) on campus near the dining hall. Not far from campus you can find a plethora of dining services, both sit-down and fast-food.

    Dorm Life

Free laundry, cool RAs, decent sized rooms, some old & some new dorms, close to the dining commons and classes. they try to pair you with a good roommate match (mine is still my best friend). no pets allowed in the dorms. gross bathrooms--shared between about ten people.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes/professors make you work hard for your good grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Even if you find the teachers or your fellow students frustrating at first, keep a positive attitude. What you get out of your academic experience is determined by the effort you put into it!

    In three sentences

Salisbury has a great campus, good professors, and an easy-to-navigate academic system. Free laundry in the dorms, its proximity to the beach, and the array of nearby fast food places and shopping centers add to Salisbury's attraction. Great price for a good education--a rare bargain today! (especially for in-state tuition)

Great for these types of students

If you're too lazy to walk across a big campus like UMD for class at 8 am, or you enjoy sleeping and drinking all the time, Salisbury is for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a club or something to get invovled in to occupy some time.

    Bang for the buck

There really isn't much to do, for all the money they're asking from students they don't provide much. Don't let their tours fool you, there hasn't been one big concert or anything like that since I've been here.

    Am enjoying being here

Salisbury, Maryland is a VERY small town. If you're looking to go here prepare for lots of nights with nothing to do. It's fine if you enjoy partying every night, but if you like to have other options take that into consideration. Getting involved in things helps a little, though.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers I had this semester were great. Many of them would love to give you one on one helped after class or during office hours. Classes are very small, since the school is very small, if you like that sort of thing.

SU is pretty cheap for in-state & out-of-state students. Since I will be an out-of-state student, it will be a little more costly but I would be paying close to this if I went to the University of Delaware!!

    Greek Life

my boyfriend is the president of the pi lambda phi fraternity so i have gotten pretty close with most of the brothers and they are some of the nicest people i have met at salisbury. i was always kind of iffy about frats because of the stereotypes that they usually get but this frat is awesome! also i am looking into joining a sorority and most of the girls i have met in sororities at salisbury are really friendly and nice and are willing to talk to you and explain what their sorority does! i'm looking into delta gamma and alpha sigma tau.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

since i'm a freshman, when my clustermates and i are studying for a test or even watching one of the many shows we watch, we take a break and go to cool beans to get a drink. you can find us there almost 4 days a week!

    What to do for fun

there is so much to go for fun. the mall is about 15 minutes away for all your shopping needs, ocean city is about 30 minutes away for all the beach lovers and of course the fractured prune is right across 13 for all the doughnut fanatics!!!

    Food and Dining

a lot of different foods to choose from. the bistro has new, different foods each day. i'm also pretty sure we got on the list for having the best foods out of all the schools in maryland so our food is pretty descent, for college food at least.

    Dorm Life

dorm life is dorm life.. either you love it or you hate it. depending on which dorm you live in it's different. i live in chester hall (one of the high rises). when i first got assigned to chester i was so disappointed, i had been hoping for one of the new quad dorms which were all newly renovated and suite style. but after living in a high rise, which is clusters instead of suites, i love it!! you make so many more friends living in a high rise than you would in a suite style room. on my floor the cluster doors are always open and almost everyones actual dorm room doors are open too so people are always coming in and out, making it really easy to meet new people!

    In three sentences

i love everything about salisbury! the students are friendly, the campus is clean and pretty and also it's small enough to get from one side to the other without being late to class. most professors are interested in how you are doing and want you to do well, which helps a lot! there

    Food and Dining

Not many options but from the options there are, it is pretty good. Many places right off campus if you get tired of what is offered on campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are amazing. The suite-style ones are completely re-done and they plan on redoing the high rises this summer. It feels like your living in a hotel.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are somewhat hard but it really depends on your major and what you are interested in.

    Tips for prospective students

Salisbury University encompasses the benefits of a large university in a smaller university setting. The classes are small and professors are always willing to help, which is what someone looks for in a small university. There are always things to do, on and off campus, which is what someone looks for in a larger university.

We have these weird-looking speakers with bright blue lights on top, and if you ever dont feel well about walking home at night, you press the speaker and a university police will escort you where you need to go. If you were partying, there's SafeRide, and they'll pick you up and take you to campus with no charge and no questions asked.

    Greek Life

I'm not involved in greek life, but there's a lot of options for both boys and girls. And they're always involved in something. I see/hear about them all over campus.

Great for these types of students

Theatre Majors. Computer Majors. Buissness Major. Pre-Med. Education. Visual Arts. Preforming Arts.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury University has been named one of the top 100 best buy universities.

    What to do for fun

There's a club for almost anything you can think of. There's even a Quiddich (spelling?) team from Harry Potter. If you want to make a club, you only need six friends to back you up. I'm involved in a modeling club, a Korean sword fighting class, and I swim at the Magg's pool to unwind.

    Food and Dining

Commons has AWESOME food, and the menu's always changing. There's little cafes and sandwich shops in all of the main class buildings. Get a meal plan, and you will never go hungry!!!

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is crazy! (Not party-wise) Parties happen off campus usually. But the people I've met in my dorm are just awesome. We're great friends and help each other with our work. My new friends take a lot of stress out of college.

    Academic Rigor

The work isn't horrible, but it's not easy... If you're planning on being a pre-nurse major, be prepared for a lot of work and minimal social life. Most of the teachers are understanding of deadlines if something comes up, like a family emergency.

    Tips for prospective students

The university sends out their acceptance/decline letters REALLY late. I don't think I received mine till late May. If you don't hear anything, don't fret. Even if you're worried about your SAT scores or GPA, if you have a genuine and passionate essay on your application, You should be fine.

    In three sentences

One of the countries best-buy universities. (look it up, for real!) Contemporary university with an old-school feel. Always something new.

    Campus Safety

If one does not feel safe on campus, the university police are always right at the touch of a button because there are multiple emergency lights on campus and there is always one in sight.

    Greek Life

Salisbury only has about 6 fraternities and 4 sororities so they do not dominate the campus. However, many people that are involved in greek life enjoy it.

    Clubs and Activities

Multiple student run organizations and activities and in the beginning of each semester, an activities fair is held so students are aware of the various clubs and activities around campus.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who love to have fun but also want to have a successful career in the future.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury is very affordable for instate and out of state tuition.

    What to do for fun

Although there is not much to do in the area, SOAP (student organization for activity planning) always plans something for students to do in their free time.

    Food and Dining

The Commons has a huge variety of different options each day. Also, the nutritional facts are listed above each food item so students are aware of what they are consuming. There are plenty of vegan/vegetarian options each day and brunch on the weekends is awesome!

    Dorm Life

Salisbury has excellent dorms, from cluster style to suite style, there are multiple residence hall options on campus. Each building creates a strong sense of community and allows students to build strong relationships with each other.

    Academic Rigor

Although some academic tracks are not as difficult as others, many majors are very competitive and require a lot of work. However, it is the students choice and responsibility to attend class to learn the information.

    Tips for prospective students

I advise prospective students to become involved in something on campus. Whether it is with a religious group, a common interest club, a sport or a sorority, get involved and these four years will be the best four years of your life.

Salisbury University has a lot to offer. From excellent food and variety of clubs and free time options to endless opportunities for higher education, Salisbury has it all. Located only thirty minutes from the beach, it never snows and its beautiful for eighty percent of the year.

    Campus Safety

This is just like any campus you go to; if you stay out late, drunk, and alone; you will find yourself in trouble. If you stay with friends and remain aware of your surroundings at all times then you will be fine. The city itself can be quite dangerous at night but that's like most cities now a days if you aren't aware of your surroundings.

    Greek Life

Salisbury DOES HAVE a GREEK LIFE. I am not sure the names or groups but they do have a Greek life. Check them out @ http://www.salisbury.edu/saol/greek/fraternities_sororities.html

    Clubs and Activities

Wide range of clubs and athletics. Many multicultural clubs as well to increase diverse participation. Many of the students that participate in the clubs and activities tend to love Salisbury a lot more than those who do not.

Great for these types of students

Students who don't need to party every day to consider the school fun. If you are looking for a party school, this is far from it. Although people do throw their share of parties, this isn't Ohio State or WVU. It's more about the friendships and connections you make here. Really good family atmosphere for most part.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

War of the Shore- Traditional Annual Lacrosse game played every spring vs a local rival college in Salisbury. Can get very intense but generally Salisbury dominates(DIII Champs 4x) many of the meetings.

    Bang for the buck

Relatively inexpensive school and very respectable. The GPA to get in here is around 3.5. So it's a tough school to enter. Many students that are accepted are generally well rounded and not just book worms.

    What to do for fun

I am a graduate student and have to work a lot to make ends meet but when I have the free time, I go out with friends to eat. As a Christian, I am big on my faith so I go to church and Bible studies a lot. I also volunteer at charity events and soup kitchens.

    Food and Dining

Dinning Hall here is terrific. Depending on how many times you go, it can get tiring but the staff here do a great job of rotating meal options. Plenty of restaurants around campus as well so you have more than enough options.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are overrated, especially in Salisbury. I only recommend it for freshmen and transfer students because you will want to make some initially friends as you continue on your career path.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, Salisbury can be really hard or just challenging. Science majors, be prepared to put in some work, especially if you are in Nursing or Athletic Training. Business School is excellent as well. Basically all the schools have their strong points. The weak points, and probably strong as well, are all on a subjective stanpoint.

    Tips for prospective students

Research exactly what you want to do before coming to college. Don't go to any school and just waste your money(in loans or cash) without know exactly what you may want to do. You don't have to have your plan down to a T but until you do, I suggest Community College till you find out.(much cheaper)

    In three sentences

Salisbury is small, close-nit community of students. You will enjoy the benefits of college life without the hassles of being another number. Ocean City is 30 minutes away and DC/Baltimore are couple of hours so you can always go there.

    Campus Safety

ridiculously safe campus. the surrounding area can be pretty rough, but just like any city, keep your head on straight, dont walk around by yourself at odd hours, and you'll be fine. that being said, there are blue lights where you can press a button and have a campus police officer respond within 90 seconds. the campus police are good at their jobs. however, sometimes they are too good, so don't park where your not supposed to, and dont stumble around holding a bottle in the open, or you'll get breathalyzed and have your drink taken.

    What to do for fun

club sports, surfing, partying, open mic nights, comedians and preformers the school regularly hires to come, and also lots of random movie nights that are fun to go to with a few friends.

    Food and Dining

on point, all day every day. there are tons of options, so your diet won't get too mundane.

My only true complaint about Salisbury...it is in a horrible town. I like to think that the campus itself is fairly safe, but I've learned that once the sun goes down, NOBODY should go anywhere-even on campus- alone.

Greek organizations definitely exist, but are not as prominent as at some other colleges. They host parties, but are not very prominent aside from fundraising and weekend nightlife.

    Food and Dining

Commons puts restaurants to shame. Cool beans is amazing, and Gull's Nest has the best quesadillas ever.

    Dorm Life

Although many students complain about the older dorms' small spaces, I had no problem with them and found them to be intimate ways of meeting friends. The campus convenience is awesome!

The school itself offers clubs and organizations for almost every major and interest that you could think of. They are continuously growing in this area. I, myself, am a proud member of three of these clubs and organizations.

    Food and Dining

The food is great. They have an extensive amount of different options. They meet the needs and desires of almost every student. The best dining experience that I have had from a University.

    Dorm Life

The school provides convenient housing options. There is only so much they can do when housing college students, this is something you have to take into consideration when anticipating cleanliness. All in all they have options that can meet almost anyone's needs.

    Academic Rigor

All of the Professors are highly qualified teachers. Sometimes they allow Graduate students to teach a class, and even they are highly qualified. As a student, you will not only learn textbook material, but you will also learn life skills needed to be successful.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused on your goal. It is easy for students to get side tracked when they have to choose between going to class and going to a party. Keep your eye on the prize and you will go far!

    In three sentences

Salisbury University is a wonderful university that is continuously growing and improving. Salisbury University is big on diversity, something I had not been exposed to in High School. I am proud to say that I am a student here.

Great for these types of students

People from small-towns who are looking to go a little bigger than a community college. Many students who come down from larger cities like Baltimore get restless because Salisbury does not have as much to offer.

    Bang for the buck

In-State tuition is very affordable. If one shops around for used books online, and maybe looks for cheaper living arrangements outside of the dorms this university will not put you majorly in debt. Out-of-State tuition is double but still in comparison to huge universities very affordable. But beware, the tuition cost keep going up and the professors will tell you they aren't seeing it in their paychecks so they aren't sure where it's going.

    What to do for fun

As mentioned Salisbury University offers numerous student lead activities every night of the week. There are dance clubs, orchestras, plays, movie nights, free yoga and zumba and so much more. A student activities bulletin is sent through student email a couple times a week therefore the activities, times and places are not hard to find. Surrounding the university is a little more sparse activity wise. A couple miles south of the university is Cherokee Bowling Lanes and Crown Sports Center. A few miles north of the school is The Centre at Salisbury. The local shopping mall includes stores such as Dick's, A&E, Gap, The Limited, Express, Journeys, Hot Topic, Spencers, Zumies, Macy's, A Regal Cinemas and food court. With-in walking distance, or scooter distance of the school is the local zoo, which is free to the public but donations are greatly appreciated. Eastward 30 minutes takes students to the shores of the Delmarva Peninsula. There students will find numerous activities during the warm months. Not only is there the water and the beach, there is countless mini-golf courses, go-karts, shopping, boardwalk activites, and beach bars.

    Food and Dining

The university offers a lot of dining options. With-in the University Center is a large dining hall with many different options for every meal. Except for the library and the oldest buildings on campus, a satellite cafe or two is available in pretty much every building. The school also offers another option. A student can load their Gull Card with money and certain Gull Card approved merchants and restaurants surrounding the university will accept that for payment. This includes many fast food chains, such as Five Guys, local pizzerias, and bakeries.

    Dorm Life

I am a local commuter and have not lived on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Academic Rigor would be about average. I would say more-so then a community college, but not nearly as rigorous as an Ivy league school. It also depends on the professor as with any school. As long as you pay attention and keep on track with your school work, good grades are not unattainable.

    Tips for prospective students

Commuters should live within close proximity to the school, otherwise they won't feel as if they are having the traditional college experience. Also a lot of the on campus activities, which fortunately a lot are offered, take place in the prime time evening, meaning if you work a part-time night job it will be hard to stay involved with a club, event or other student lead activity. Being that Salisbury is a slowly growing college town many of the past time activities are not within walking distance, a scooter or car would be beneficial.

    In three sentences

Salisbury University is friendly, comfortable, and safe. The university is set in a small city with a few activities available, but luckily the beach is only a 30 minute drive. The professors are very cordial to all students.

Great for these types of students

    Campus Safety

Most of the areas bordering campus are unsafe. There's a lot of gang activity around here. The police don't have a very strong presence and usually go after small offenses such as parking and smoking instead of real threats to safety. Campus is unsecured: Anyone can drive or walk in whenever they please and serious problems have been known to occur because of this.

    Clubs and Activities

The SGA is always organizing things to do. There's a club fair at the beginning of the year and a list of clubs available in the Student Center.

Great for these types of students

People from New Jersey (there are a lot of them here). Students who are serious about their studies and can manage their time well.

    Bang for the buck

It's pretty cheap here for in-state. There are a lot of activities and resources available, and most of the professors I've had have been pretty good.

    What to do for fun

Nothing is walking distance from campus except a little strip mall and a CVS. Most of the parties here are really bad and always get busted. Violent assault, rape, and drug use (especially hard drugs and date rape) is very much present in the social scene. Almost all of the parties are in bad neighborhoods, and it's usually the same houses over and over every weekend.

    Food and Dining

Everything is good, but it's mostly the same things over and over with a few small changes.

    Dorm Life

The highrises are small and cramped, with 10 people to a small bathroom. In St. Martins I've heard it's pretty hard to meet new people because the rooms are so separated. Dogwood is ugly, completely isolated, and a long walk from everything except commons. The suites in the quad are your best bet, but you see the same people over and over again which can be good or bad.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are easy here, still don't feel like I've learned anything. A lot of tedious busy work but nothing too difficult. The only difference with the honors program is that it gives a lot of supplementary work, and you have additional class/project requirements.

    Tips for prospective students

Professors are a hit or miss, especially in the math and science departments a lot of them are international and have language proficiency issues and/or heavy accents. Don't come here if you don't plan on going to class. The University has a standing policy for all classes that two class absences puts you in jeopardy of failing a class.

    In three sentences

This is a good place to go if you can't get in or afford anywhere else better. There are a lot of good things, but also a lot of bad. It really depends on what you're coming here for.

    Dorm Life

Not a lot of housing for students.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for parking problems and be prepared to spend astronomical amounts on housing.

There are always parties on the weekends but be careful because the cops have really cracked down.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was okay. The bathrooms were cleaned every day. Although they did have a bug problem. They are renovated the oldest dorms this year which were the ones I was in so they will be getting better.

    Academic Rigor

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging but due to the small class size, it is easy to ask questions in class. Many popular classes such as biology and chemistry also offer SI, or student instructors. SI is, in a nutshell, tutoring. I have utilized this service numerous times and it has always seemed to help me.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering living in a Living Learning Community (LLC), definitely do it. It has been the most influential choice I have made in my lifetime.

Fun isn't hard to find at Salisbury because there is something for everyone to do....athletics, theatrics, music, clubs, art...you name it! Salisbury offers it all. There are many different activities and groups that students can join. The most important part is to GET INVOLVED.

    Food and Dining

Salisbury dining was one of my all time favorite part of the school! The dining halls are kept very sanitary and organized. The food is absolutely amazing! All dishes are properly cooked and prepared to their perspective temperatures, portions are reasonable and there is a plethora of foods for all tastes.

    Dorm Life

From what I've seen dorm life is amazing!! The set up of the rooms is so cool because it's like each cluster has their own group of neighbors which is really awesome. Also the dorm rooms are kept very clean and they are organization friendly in that you can rearrange the room how ever you'd like because the room furniture is stack-able.

    Academic Rigor

I am an in-going freshmen and have yet to take any classes at Salisbury but I am told that the classes are fairly rigorous but manageable as long as you stay on top of all your work.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early so that you can be looked at first for financial aid and acceptance. Definitely visit the campus because you never know how you feel about a school until you step foot on the campus. I was always a city girl used to big skyscrapers and rushing streets outside my window, but I never would have imagined how in love I was with rolling hills, corn fields and all the finer things nature has to offer until I actually went to Salisbury for the first time. Always know your due dates and deadlines because they can be the difference in acceptance, financial aid and/ or class enrollment.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury is a great option for those of us who don't have the money to afford a private school. I'd say, if you line in state and don't wanna have student loans for the rest of your life, go to Salisbury!!

    What to do for fun

There's always something to do at SU. Whether it's visiting the Salisbury Zoo on a nice spring day or making a trip up to the beach in Ocean City, Maryland which is only about a 25 minute car ride from campus!

    Food and Dining

SU has the best dining hall out of any college I've visited!

The security department tests emails and texts monthly, assuring students of the highest care in the students' safety. Plus don't park where your not supposed to, otherwise you will get a parking ticket!!

    Clubs and Activities

There are all kinds of clubs available on the campus. There's always some club meeting, group show, give away, etc going on every day of the week!

    Bang for the buck

The Eastern Shore of Maryland is close to everything! Virginia has the Chincoteague Pony Penning in the spring and fall. A great way to support the Volunteer Fire Company in Chincoteague. Delaware beaches offer the outlet stores with tons of bargains from clothes to shoes to kitchen wares to Longenberger. And Delaware is tax free! All of the shore stores are within three hours away in any direction so very close for day trips, for parents to come for weekend visits, and friends to come over for the day.

    What to do for fun

There is our own small but quaint zoo, several museums, the mall at the north end, several strip malls, dance studios, several parks. And this is a short list. There are so many different things to do!!

    Food and Dining

There are several places to get food from and man does it smell great!!

    Dorm Life

I don't know about the dorms but from looking at them, they look pretty decent. I live off campus and am an older student so I don't need the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are pretty difficult! Don't get caught up in the fun nights out and forget to study, study, study! Teachers are willing to send students to tutors and the library is great! Don't feel stupid to go to these resources, your paying for them with your tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

I'm an older student so I knew what I was in for, but younger students should look around at the area and make sure they are ready for either on campus living or off campus living. I would suggest living on campus for the first year because there are some crimes that happen and its scary to start with for the first timers. At least on campus there is security and friends around to help keep each other safe. Salisbury is a great town with lots of things to do and places to see close by and even for day trips, but nothing beats the safety factor!

    In three sentences

The campus is absolutely beautiful and is kept that way year round. The staff is generally very good about helping students with getting help if needed for tutors or writing or library assistance. Financial aid is available but the student must be willing to do some legwork, they will assist to find some aid and answer questions but the student will have to do the heavy work in finding the money!

Join clubs, take advantage of SOAP events, and (if it's something you're interested in) there's always partying.

    Food and Dining

The food here is great! I couldn't ask for better food. It's a definite upgrade from home. There is almost always an option for everybody. They do their best to provide options for vegan/vegetarian students as well. Every night there are homecooked style meals, french fries and chicken nuggets type of food, tacos, pasta, salad, hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches, soup and other unique options. They also serve great desserts every day, too. In addition to commons, there are cafes in many of the main academic buildings for snacks in between classes or meals before or after an awkwardly timed class or for when you just don't feel like going to commons. There is also Gull's Nest which serves pretty decent food (though all unhealthy) like subs, pizza, nachos and wings. It stays open later than commons in case you couldn't make it in time. They also sell things like bags of chips, goldfish, cookies, and even tubs of Ben and Jerry's ice cream all of which you can buy with your Dining Dollars.

    Dorm Life

All the freshman dorms except Severn, Dogwood, and St Martins and awesome places to live. The other three range from decent to... yuck. Severn is known as the projects to most student on campus. Inside the dorms, at least inside my dorm (Choptank), there is always commotion. There are students partying, particularly on Thirsty Thursday and on the weekends. It personally bothers me, but depending on who you are, you might find that to be good news. Many students keep alcohol in their room. It is extremely easy to get away with since the RAs do NOT have the right to open your fridge. This means all you have to do is sneak it in the building and put it in your fridge and then, of course, not get caught while drunk, which seems to be the most difficult part. There are clubs on campus for all interests and plenty to do. For example, SOAP the other night brought the famous magician/illusionist Mike Super to the school and we were able to see him for free. There are also regular free movies, lectures, concerts available, as well as cheap options like certain movies, plays, and parties.

    Academic Rigor

For most classes, a lot is expected of you. It can be really stressful, but at the same time, it feels like it is the right amount. I am academically challenged here and definitely believe it is helping me to grow.

    Tips for prospective students

A lot of students drink in the dorms but most real partying takes place off campus. If your parents let you, bring a car! It's not the safest area in the world. On campus is safe but off campus is not. You can easily walk to the CVS for basic needs like prescriptions, toiletries, and food that you can't find in the campus bookstore. A shuttle runs between the campus, the mall, WalMart, and Target on Saturdays. Yes, only saturdays. Every other day if you want to get to any of these places you're out of luck though WalMart I believe is within walking distance.

    In three sentences

This is a beautiful, academically challenging school. The amenities offered are great, and almost all of the dorms are nice. It is situated only 30 minutes from ocean city, but aside from that, there isn't much to do around here.
