Great for these types of students

17-99 years old, full time students, part time students, people who want to take classes for fun, people who are serious about school, parents, grandparents, basically anyone. SLCC is whatever you need it to be whether its something to keep you busy or a way to transition to a 4 year school

    Tips for prospective students

GO TO CLASS!!!! I know its tempting to skip since most professors don't take role but this will result in bad grades and is a bad habit to get into. Also, take advantage of all the resources SLCC offers its students, from cheap hair cuts, free doctor exams and free massages, to help from academic advisors and tutoring.

    Bang for the buck

You can receive the same credits at SLCC that you would at a university for less than half the cost. I personally know a few people who are going to SLCC to get the associates degree then plan on transferring to a university simply because its much cheaper to do it that way. Plus you have access to the health and wellness center, free massages, free uta/trax passes and so much more, included with your student fee. for 12-18 credit hours a semester its only 1,395 for residents.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the environment of the classes and campus. everyone seems really happy to be there. I personally have enjoyed college more than high school. Like I mentioned earlier, the class sizes are much smaller than what you'd normally find at a university which makes for a great learning environment. There always seems to be activities going on. Once a week they play movies in the student center that are free. Its a great place, not only to continue education, but also to just hang out and meet new people.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are small (about 35 students per class) so its more personalized learning and you can access help from your professor easier. most of the classes I've taken are to fulfill my gen-ed requirements so nothing to in depth but there are many programs to choose from if your going into a specific major.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips would be to develop good study habits (classes such as LE 1020 are good to take for college freshmen and everyone else), learn of the various resources on campus, start school with a good attitude, and set goals and achieve them.

    Bang for the buck

Colleges are expensive, and Salt Lake Community College is no exception. Tuition is getting higher every year. And with the textbook and student fees, it would almost seem like students would have to pay a million dollars every semester. However, there are many scholarships out there about which few students know. Fastweb is a search engine that collects scholarship information specifically for a student and gives him/her the link to apply for the scholarship. Salt Lake Community College gives scholarships specifically for its students. The financial aid office, located on the second floor of the student center, is a good place to inquire about scholarship information, including FAFSA.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many resources, especially in the Taylorsville Redwood campus, for students just starting out. Each building has something that can somehow help students. The student center is the main building, and it has everything for every student. There are volunteer opportunities that students can take advantage of with the Thayne Learning Center, free health check-ups with the health and wellness center, a financial aid office that helps students with financial aid such as FAFSA or general scholarships, and so much more. There are various computer labs in various areas that students can use for free. In the administration building, there is an office that aids students in getting jobs on- or off campus. There are so many things that students can do on campus.

    Am learning a lot

Salt Lake Community College is a place of learning...when one has the right attitude. With the wide variety of classes, from the general algebra and basic biology to the complex anatomy and astronomy, students can take classes related to their majors or classes for fun. There are even classes where students can learn how to be master students and go through college with flying colors.

I love Salt Lake Community College it is a great place to start!

    Tips for prospective students

Sometimes it may seem like you want to give up. Never do! In the end you will be glad you didn't. It's well worth it.

    Bang for the buck

Salt Lake Community College is very affordable. Especially compared to other schools.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Salt Lake Community College. I was so nervous to start but once I did I found so many friendly people. It has a very good and relaxed environment.

    Am learning a lot

I hate only taken a few classes but the ones I have taken have helped me so much. I have learned so much in such a short time of being there. I know that throughout my time at Salt Lake Community College I will learn so much more.

Great for these types of students

--can't afford pricey college tuition --don't care about the on-campus 'experience' --want to live at home, with parents, or rent an apartment --want to save money while getting an Associate's degree or just save money on general education courses

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for a fairly inexpensive college to attend while living at home/with parents, or even renting an apartment, SLCC is an option. But be aware that you won't get the 'experience' of on-campus living and there would probably be more young adults at a four-year college.

    Bang for the buck

The best part of SLCC is the low cost of tuition. Currently tuition for 12-18 credits is about $1,400. Compared to the University of Utah for example, that's about $1000-$1900 difference! Students can get a great 2-year education relatively cheap and either transfer to a 4-year college or stop at graduation. Either way they save money!

    Am enjoying being here

I think the main reason that I have for not enjoying SLCC more is due to the social atmosphere (or lack thereof). I've found that it's difficult to find people I can relate to in my classes; many are married with kids. It also seems like the students are more content to be in their own little bubble, rather than reaching out to make new friends. Granted, I am going to one of the smaller campuses, which may make a difference. The few campus activities I have been to have not been much help as only a handful of students participate. In this area, I think a 4-year college would be more enjoyable.

    Am learning a lot

I have taken a few general classes along with some fun ones, and I'm rather impressed by how much I have learned! Before enrolling I was kind of expecting mediocre classes and teachers, but they really are great! My teachers have been very helpful and I feel comfortable asking questions when needed. It seems like they really do care about helping students learn, which is a huge factor for me because if the teacher isn't interested, neither am I.

Great for these types of students

SLCC is great for those who wish to get a good education, but have a tight budget. It is also good for those people who like variety in classes.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest researching instructors before signing up for classes. Most of the faculty is great, but there are those one or two instructors you want to avoid. I would also suggest parking in the parking lots on the South side of campus. They are always less crowded then those on the North.

    Bang for the buck

The main reason for my going to SLCC is that it is a lot cheaper than going to a University. I still plan to go to one to get my Bachelors, but SLCC is a cheaper alternative and can transfer credits to almost any other school in Utah. The lower price doesn't mean lower quality though. SLCC is rated #3 in the nation. So you get a quality education for a better cost.

    Am enjoying being here

The campuses are always clean and the faculty and staff are friendly. There is a wide variety of people going there at all different ages so you get to meet a lot of interesting people.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are average for most classes and the teachers and professors are extremely helpful. The classes seem to have just the right amount of homework, enough to challenge you, but not so much that it is stressful. The curriculum is flexible enough to fit your own personal learning style.

Great for these types of students

-Adults returning to school -Students who want to save for a 4 year college -People who are serious about their education -People who are a little rusty at getting an education.

    Tips for prospective students

-Financial aid has deadlines for a reason, so get your registration/FAFSA in as early as humanly possible before the semester begins. -Communicate with your professors! Good feedback, bad feedback, questions, can't make it to class, just check in! It works in your favor 99.9% of the time.

    Bang for the buck

Considering that SLCC is almost a tenth of the price of tuition at the state colleges, it is excellent bang for the buck. When I compare my class experiences with what friends attending the U are experiencing, SLCC's value increases exponentially. No stadium style classrooms, professors know all of their students' names by midterms, and tuition is the same for 12-18 credits, so overachievers definitely get the value for their money.

    Am enjoying being here

The class sizes are small, the cliques virtually non existent, and the professors, well, the professors deserve their own paragraph. My original major was Health Science until I had a professor who reignited my childhood love of English and literature. I have met with encouragement at every turn. From my experience, the staff understands that no one is perfect all of the time, and is always willing to work with a student who will communicate with them.

    Am learning a lot

I have been amazed to realize that even the classes required for general education credits have taught me something. Subjects that I thought of as dry (communications, biology, statistics) have found me integrating class substance into my daily life. There is not a single class that I have taken in my 3 semesters at SLCC that has not inspired me to do some external research and learn more about something brought up by that particular class.

    What to do for fun

i really like to sit outside and read books. it has good circumstance to study in campus.

    Food and Dining

in main campus, Red wood campus, there are a few restaurants which offer Asian foods to Mexican food. however, small campuses do not have restaurant.

    Dorm Life

unfortunately, my school does not have dorm. it is because most students in there are local students.

    Academic Rigor

it depends on professors. in my case, it is hard as international students, but professos help students as much as they want.

    Tips for prospective students

there from young students who have just graduated from high-school to workers who take part n class as part-time students.

    In three sentences

there are many options to complete each goal. though campuses are not huge, students have enough services. there is great international office for foreign students.

Great for these types of students

Students who want savings in tuition and fees and are working through school can hardly find a better place than SLCC. It's also good if you live in the Salt Lake Valley and plan to earn an associate's degree before entering a bachelor's program, or if you simply want a college experience that isn't intimidating. SLCC is a laid-back, easygoing institution that doesn't demand high stress levels.

    Tips for prospective students

SLCC's tuition is so cheap that if you only go part-time, you're robbing yourself. Take advantage of the low tuition to take as many credits as possible with your work schedule during your semesters at SLCC - then you won't have to pay more for them later at another school. Ask questions in class and make friends with the professors. SLCC is a better place for that than most other colleges due to its small class sizes. Big stacks of the New York Times are available all over campus, free for the taking. Read them! It's the best free newspaper you'll ever get, and the bigger Utah schools don't give away daily newspapers.

    Bang for the buck

SLCC's tuition is dirt-cheap, and the credits you earn there transfer easily to every other state-run institution. BYU also accepts most SLCC credits. While the teaching and the facilities aren't great, they're perfectly adequate for what SLCC offers, which is mostly lower-level lecture courses for transfer to other institutions. SLCC has small class sizes, so your professors know you by name, as a person. You always get a seat near the board, even if you sit in the back of the classroom, and the professor is never too far away to understand. Your professors get to know you by name, as a person, which is very helpful when you have homework questions or need a favor.

    Did enjoy being here

The Taylorsville Redwood campus of SLCC is small and ugly, with very few facilities and a thoroughly mediocre library. Parking is a pain, the traffic situation can be harrowing, and the campus air is surprisingly smoky both from cars and cigarettes. However, I loved leaving the high school to go to math class every day, so my rating balances out to a 3.

    Did learn a lot

During high school I took Math 2210/Multivariate Calculus and Math 2250/Differential Equations and Linear Algebra from SLCC during release time. The classes were excellent. They were at least as rigorous as the equivalent courses at other Utah schools and probably more so, since they met 5 hours a week even though they were only articulated as 3 and 4 credit classes. Dr. Ronald McKay isn't the best math teacher, but he's extremely friendly and very good at explaining things in simple, understandable terms. You can go to Dr. McKay for anything, and he knows you personally and inquires after you as a friend. Dr. Costello isn't as friendly and is prone to long, irrelevant tangents, but he's a math teacher par excellence. Dr. Costello proves and derives EVERYTHING, so you learn the fundamentals from him and thus understand the material more than you would otherwise.

Great for these types of students

SLCC is great for anyone. If you walk the campus you see all kinds of people in all kinds of places in life. If you want a great education at an affordable price then your school is SLCC. If you are determind, penny pinching, hard working student then you would be a perfect fit at SLCC..

    Tips for prospective students

Grab a map and explore the campus with some of your friends! It will allow you to get the hang of where things are while making some new memories with friends. You'll be much more prepared when classes start, not to mention you'll be on time! I would also recommend seeing a counselor. They will really help you to discover your dreams and lead to the best path for you to get there. Without this it can be hard to understand exactly what is required and where you are on your journey. Finally, start your financial aid early. You want to make sure everything is taken care of long before the semester starts. That way by the time school begins your ready to go while everyone else is standing in a long line.

    Bang for the buck

I'm sure everyone, including me, wishes college were cheaper. But, let's face it, it's not happening. That's one of the main reasons I chose to attend SLCC. The price! It's incredibly affordable, especially when you consider how many programs and degrees are available here. You save a ton when compared to other Universities. The amount you save at SLCC lets you do more with that money, Whether it's more money to spend on books, gas, or supplies, that extra cash is always helpful to struggling students.

    Am enjoying being here

I can't believe I've been here for a year already! I guess it's true what they say. Time does go by fast when your having fun. It truly is a community college. People are friendly, helpful, and passionate about what they are doing. Which enables you to focus and aspire to even greater heights. Along with great people, there are great activities for you to enjoy. Movie nights, games, weight watchers, anything you can imagine is offered at the school. So not only are you getting a stellar education, but you are having fun while doing it.

    Am learning a lot

My first year of college has been a amazing experience. I am so glad that I decided to attend SLCC. It has given my all the opportunity in the world. You are constantly being received by wonderful teachers, counselors, and friendly classmates. The college is a place you want to be not somewhere you have to be. You find yourself wanting to go to school to learn and grow not only as a student, but as a person and SLCC allows you to do just that. They make everything so easy. Access to financial aid, information on classes and degrees, even transfering to other schools. It's all at the tip of your fingers. The stand out thing about SLCC would have to be it's amazing teachers. They are as as good as they come and always want to ensure that you are reaching your potential, with their help of course! I am grateful for the knowledge I am gaining through this school it is truly paving a path for my future and that is what a college should do.

Great for these types of students

It is great for students just coming out of high school who are trying to get their Associates Degree. It is also great for people who are just starting to go to school again after several years of taking a break. This school is not too big where you can get lost or overwhelmed.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for prospective students would be to really get involved on the campus life and take advantage of how small it is. Get to know people and make a ton of friends. Take time to talk to your teachers and get to know them. Make sure you get good grades so when the time comes for you to transfer, you can make it into the college you want to. Remember to enjoy college life, it doesn't always have to be stressful!

    Bang for the buck

I am so glad that I attending SLCC first before going to a bigger university. I saved so much money but still got a good, worthwhile education. You will pay about half of what a university will charge attending SLCC. The cost is great, and so is the education.

    Did enjoy being here

I really enjoyed being a part of Salt Lake Community College. Because the class sizes are small and the campus is not that big, you can really get to know people. You can make a lot of friends there. The campus has a lot of really fun activities for you to get involved in.

    Did learn a lot

Salt Lake Community College is a great place to start if you are just coming out of high school, and it is a great place to go if you are just starting to come back into the education field. The class sizes are not big so you get to have a closer learning atmosphere with the teacher as well as with your fellow peers. You can have more one on one time with your teacher if you need to, and they actually take time to learn your name. Because the class sizes are small, the teacher can take more time to go over things that you maybe do not understand. The teachers there are well educated and they make sure your time is worthwhile while you are in class.

Students seeking a small classroom. Students that want a convienent location and good parking. Small campuses. Diversity of people and age groups. Easier classes. Cheaper credits.

    Tips for prospective students

I think it is an excellent idea to attend this school. Apply for finacial aid! Don't put it off! The earlier you apply, the more aid you receive, plus you get your money on time. Going to Salt Lake Community college is a great idea because it's convienient, parking is great, class sizes are small, and the credits transfer! Why would you spend 5 times the price for the same class at the University or some other college when you can take it here and have a more personalized experience and more access to your professor.

    Bang for the buck

I attended the U of U and I felt like I got a much better education being at the community college for what I pay. The teachers are more attentive and more willing to help. Plus, its 1/4 of the cost!

    Am enjoying being here

I like the classes. Teachers are great! People are nice! Small classes and small price. :)

Don't over book yourself. You may think that because it's a community college, you don't have to work as hard, or you'll have more time on your hands. It's still college. You still have homework and other things to take care of.

    Bang for the buck

Salt Lake Community College has very transferable credits, and is closely connected to quite a few four-year colleges. Plus, I'm paying about half the tuition.

    Am enjoying being here

If I were more involved, I would like it more. They have a lot of fun activities that appeal to a lot of people.

    Am learning a lot

It's nice to go to a community college just for the simply fact that class sizes are smaller here so if you need more personal help with your work there are less students to fight to when trying to get help from the professor. So you can get that one on one with your teacher when you need it.

Make sure that you attend your classes. The professors are all incredible, but many of them won't put in much time with lazy students. They still expect you to behave like responsible adults.

    Bang for the buck

Great! The monthly tuition for a full time student (12-18 credits) is only $1466. At Utah Valley University it was $2380. Almost all the professors are Adjunct Professors meaning they get no benefits and less pay. So the professors are all there because they love to teach and work with students.

    Am enjoying being here

The campuses are all great environments with lots of diversity among the students. The grounds crews work very hard to make the campuses beautiful and enjoyable. There are always student groups outside on the lawns studying together.

    Am learning a lot

The classes and professors here are excellent! The class sizes are kept small so that the instructors have plenty of time to work with the students on an individual basis if needed. The largest class I've had held 35 students.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to finish their general requirements before entering a four-year institution; students who want to go back to school but are short on cash; students who need flexible school schedules to balance with other responsibilities, such as work or family; students who want to explore career possibilities before declaring a major; students who need a school close to their home (this is likely, since SLCC has 5 campuses and 4 centers).

    Tips for prospective students

Register early. Even though SLCC is fairly lenient on their registration dates, it's always better to sign up for classes early. This way, you are sure to get into the class you need. Also, every class has a cap of how many students may register, which has just been taken out of the teacher's hands (meaning it is now much harder to sign up for classes that have been capped). Also, it is always a good idea to meet with your academic adviser to plan out which classes you need to take.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition costs roughly $1,000-$2,000 per semester, as compared to the average $4,000-$8,000 at other 4-year institutions in Utah. Books and student fees will cost about the same as any other school. At the end of each semester, there is a buyback program for books that can help bring in a little more money. There is also plenty of financial aid and scholarships available.

    Am enjoying being here

I mostly only enjoy attending SLCC because it is down the street from my house. It's convenient. But since it isn't a Greek social setting, and students don't live on campus, I've found it hard to become really close with any other students unless I knew them prior to attending SLCC.

    Am learning a lot

This school is student-based rather than research-based. It looks less prestigious, but i prefer it since you get more one-on-one with the teachers. The class sizes are also smaller, making it easier to establish relationships with the faculty and staff. Since it is a community college, you don't have to declare a major, so you can take a wide scope of classes and don't necessarily have to worry about staying within your major.

Be sure you talk to a counselor to see what kind of credits you need and then sign up as soon as possible! The generals classes go quickly. Also, pick up the school's newspaper every once in awhile to find some free movie tickets, job offers, apartment rentals and other things every college student wants/needs.

    Campus Safety

never heard of any major accident (or minor, for that matter) on this campus. plus, if there is, the fire department is super close.

Great for these types of students

fresh out of high school and want to save up for a 4-year university when they pick a degree. go here if you just wanna look around and see what you're interested in. anyone who wants to take classes just for the fun of it. people who can break out of their shell and get others to break out of theirs.

    Bang for the buck

cheap school and a good education, i'd only recommend going for a general's degree, though. anything else you'll probably want a university on your records. food is way overpriced for the quality and quantity.

    What to do for fun

have super awesome sleepovers at friend's houses when their parents are away or when they have to house-sit for a relative. play at the lds institute - free games, free food, the occasional dance. slcc itself doesn't offer any formal dances, though, which is a shame. but they do occasionally have activities, but i don't personally find them of much interest. road trips with friends! the taylorsville rec center isn't too far, and that's always a blast. infinity center (formally studio 600) is somewhat popular among slcc students, it's a great place to go learn country swing (not recommended if you're a big band fan)! weekend camp-outs. study parties (more fun than it sounds, really!).

    Food and Dining

eh, bring your own lunch and snacks. they're stuff isn't bad, but it's way too over-priced. go to the lds institute for free food!

    Dorm Life

    non-existent. they don't have dorms.

    Academic Rigor

generally i've had great teachers who have taught at other high-end universities such as university of utah and columbia university.

    Tips for prospective students

try to have a good time - party it up! taylorsville (the city slcc is located in) isn't a college town so you have to try to make friends and have a good time, it won't just come to you. i've made some of my best friends here, but you have to be willing to break out of your shell. warning: can sometimes feel like a grown-up high school. wouldn't recommend if you're coming from a 4-year university, but for those fresh out of high school, it's a good transition from a high school feel to a semi-college feel.

    In three sentences

a typical community college. fun if you try to make friends, anti-social if you don't. teachers are generally very good at teaching.

    Clubs and Activities

clubs and activities are great! they are a way to get to know people, see people, and see what is happening. one of the activities are the sports which i am a huge fan of! they are all great i was never really a club member but i was an activities person, get good stuff for free!

Great for these types of students

any! there are old people, mid age adult, young adults, and right out of high school kids. i was the right out of high school kid and now a young adult! i have loved it and had many older people in my classes they had so many stories to say. great!

    What to do for fun

the basketball games, they are my favorite. they do have other sports but my favorite is basketball games (boys) always more people there. the girls don't have as many there but they are good. they have different activities in the lair which is nice, and food, plus a big bash at the end of school in the spring.

    Food and Dining

food is great, a little expensive. it depends on where you get it the real food is good but expensive, and they have a place to get cheap food. the cheap place is the lair and they are pretty good for there price. dining they have comfortable places to sit, benches, tables, and just chairs. they are good that way, nice and clean too.

    Dorm Life

i really don't know as i have lived at home. i really actually don't think that they have any because it is a community college. i could just be in the air though.

    Academic Rigor

they are good to get the classes that you need, and where you need to go. they tell you what classes you need to take to go to a different college. helping is what they do. some academic advisers are not that great, try to get good ones.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you get a parking pass, and always get there early (to park). class numbers are just a little confusing but not to bad to stress yourself. the pay meters are always full don't count on them.

really safe, it has a really nice atmosphere, everyone is really nice and easy going. i believe it to be very safe. the only things is don't leave your electronic devices unsupervised because then things might not be there when you come back. i guess this is a general things that you have to watch for everywhere but overall is very safe.

    Greek Life

the school does not have any sorority or fraternity communities on campus probably because there are no dorms or anything like it. it has a lot of clubs though, dance club, basketball club, chess club, etc. i am not involve in them because you have to pay to be in the club and so...

    Clubs and Activities

they have a lot of activities, performances. students get a discount in a lot of events and most of the time is free for them. they have movie nights or activities just like that in which you can bring friends that are not even attending the college.

Great for these types of students

its really great for the really outgoing type because they will make a lot of friends and would really enjoy the classes. is also great for students that are shy and feel that they need a little extra help in overcoming that to succeed in the real world because little by little you will gain the confidence to be able to speak up or do what you would like to do. the teachers would help a lot. really convenient for low income students because tuition is not so expensive and classes are worth every penny. it would just be great for anyone, all the ones that would like to get a start up in college to get prepare for a 4 year college or more education later on.

    Bang for the buck

its a really good school overall. tuition is not that expensive and classes are really worth taken. they are really fun and enjoyable. you learn so much, its amazing.

    What to do for fun

its in utah so major thing to do is going ice skating during the winter, snowboarding, skiing, etc.. there is so much to do. i love hanging out with friends and dancing, so i am always going to dances or eating at a restaurant with friends, you can even go karaoke if you like to sing. of course, all of this would have to be off campus but is very close to the school area.

    Food and Dining

cafeteria food is good but expensive, especially for college students. for example: a foot long sandwich is $6.99 (depending on your choice of meet) when you can get a better sandwich at subway for $5. its better to eat outside school, there are many fast food places and restaurants surrounding the school and really close. the best thing is that is cheap, which works for me.

    Dorm Life

is a small college, it does not have dorms. most students live with their family or they rent an apartment in the area.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are hard enough to help us learn and grow but not fail them. if we do what is require of us, do the homework and probably a little bit more, we will be able to succeed. in classes we learn not to just solve a problem with a formula but to apply them in our life.

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students go in there with a desire to learn. try to keep some active communitcation with the teacher, they are always willing to help if you happen to find certain material difficult. if you have any questions feel free to raise your hand and ask, there might be more people in class that are having the same question and it helps the teacher to know which area he/she needs to review more.

    In three sentences

the classes are small, therefore there is more interaction between students and professors. professors love the material they teach and teach it with passion. by doing so, they make you be excited to be there the next day and be ready to learn from them.

Great for these types of students

great for students with little money and don't know what they want to do yet.

    What to do for fun

join a club, be part of something at the school. the fitness classes are lots of fun if you like to work out with other people.

no dorms you can find roommates or stay living with your parents but the community college does not provide housing.

    Academic Rigor

majority of the classes are well taught their are of course difficult classes but there is help every where you just have to find it. the teachers are great sources to find free tutors if you are struggling.

Great for these types of students

SLCC is great for students who don't know what they want to major in, as well as students who don't want to pay a fortune for school. It is a great place for new high school graduates to start taking classes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I am not really aware of any unusual traditions or locations on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Classes are usually pretty cheap. To take 12 credit hours worth of classes is only about 1500 dollars. Books are a bit expensive, but you can buy them used, and then sell them online. Also, students at SLCC have an option to purchase a discounted pass to ride the trax train which goes across the valley, making for an easy method of transportation.

    What to do for fun

SLCC has sports activities to attend, and they have a lot of social gatherings where there are fun activities.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria area at each campus, and they all include some little sandwhich and fast food stops. Food is reasonably priced and tastes good.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on any of the campuses, so if you attend this school you have find a place on your own. Rent in a lot of parts of Utah can be relatively high for students.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are not really very hard as long as you put in enough study time. Grades are usually based mostly on test and quiz scores. There is a lot of reading involved in all classes, and students will definitely find that if they don't read, they won't pass the tests.

    Tips for prospective students

The second registration for classes or financial aid opens up, get online and complete everything you need to. Classes fill up fast and SLCC is very slow at processing your FASFA info. Also, because different colleges and Universities don't always accept the same credits, it would be wise for anyone looking to attend this school to get their associates degree before transfering to another school. That way you don't have to take classes over again.

    In three sentences

A great school to attend if one needs to explore their options and make a final decision on what to major in. The small class sizes make for a wonderful learning experience. The instructors are very understanding, and most of them very willing to help students who need it.

The price is unbeatable. When you compare the cost of general studies completion at SLCC compared to any traditional four year program you are spending half as much, easily. The classes are just as informative. However the School Spirit that is typical of a four year institution is lacking here.

    What to do for fun

There is an active student life you can join. There are sports games to attend or the student body to join. With there being so many campuses littering the valley a campus isn't far from any activity available in Salt Lake.

    Food and Dining

There are food bars in the student center. The food tastes great and the coffee is always on.

    Dorm Life

It is a community college. I'm not sure there are dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Classes here can be as easy or as challenging as you wish them to be. If you just plan to coast through then it is possible but you will not learn much. The more effort you put in the larger the pay off.

    Tips for prospective students

The first thing any student must to do is meet with an academic adviser. With so many class options at SLCC it is easy to sign up for classes that while useful in some ways happen to be useless in obtaining your degree in your chosen major. Academic advisers also help point out any short cuts you can take.

    In three sentences

Salt Lake Community College offers a wide variety of programs for students at a lesser cost then a traditional four year university. This is a great jumping off point whether you are planning on transferring to a four year school or just completing a much needed certificate. The Staff is very helpful and only wishes to help you achieve your goals whatever they may be.

The school does not regulate us closely and we are allowed to have the freedom to do what we choose. I guess that might open the door for abuse, but I feel our freedoms are much more important. Because it is a smaller college, there are not many places that offer the opportunity for crime. I have never felt unsafe at this school.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities may not parallel those of local Universities, but for a Community College, they do have quite a large selection to fit many personalities. If you are interested in getting involved, I am sure you will be happy with what you find.

Great for these types of students

High school students seeking a head start in college, recent High School graduates, adults needing a career change, and those who just want to increase their education for personal reasons can find great benefit from attending SLCC. The younger crowd may benefit more from the college night life, but everyone who attends SLCC has their own goals in mind.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I really can't think of anything unusual about the campus, except that there are many locations across the Salt Lake Valley and they all seem to be very different from each other. There doesn't seem to be a uniform look to indicate that they are the same school. Some are hard to find due to their lack of advertising on the property.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of tuition is a huge perk for attending SLCC. Everyone knows the saying, you get what you pay for, but in this case the cost does not reflect the education. The students get a quality learning experience at a much lower price, so the benefits are twice as sweet!

    What to do for fun

It is always fun to attend the athletic events, and the school dances help create lasting friendships. Get involved to make the most memories.

The parking lot is rather big, and I would advise not to park far if you have to stay on campus until after sundown. I would also advise to ensure that your car is locked when you park.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons and tons of clubs that the student can join. There are also a ton of activities such as musical performances, movie showings, and even free ice cream available to the students!

    Bang for the buck

Salt Lake Community College has a relatively low tuition fee. I was a full time student and I paid $1,585 for my tuition. Out of state is over $3,000.

    What to do for fun

There are very many clubs to join. Athletic events, such as games, are also fun to attend.

    Food and Dining

Salt Lake Community College has a food court that has a variety of places to get food. They have Chinese food, Mexican food, a sandwich shop, a coffee brewery, a grill, and they are currently building a pizza and pasta place.

    Dorm Life

Student housing or dorms are not available at Salt Lake Community College. Students who did not grow up in Salt Lake City, like me, have to look for another place off campus to live. It's difficult to do, especially if you do not have money to use for rent or living expenses.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are fun! They definitely know their subjects and get the class involved. Luckily, they also have a sense of humor, which makes the classroom a more fun environment.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to get involved with clubs and student organizations! School will not be fun unless you are involved. The professors are fun and easy to get along with.

    In three sentences

Salt Lake Community College is a great school when it comes to general education and obtaining an associates degree. The school is full of clubs and encourages their students to get involved. There are many training programs, a low tuition, and academic advising is always available to its students.

There are always different activities going on after school and even during classes. Most of them are helpful too like the job fairs and the lectures about different topics. We have school plays and fundraising dinners which are a lot of fun.

Taking the easy way out is how most people view community colleges but in fact that's not necessarily true. The students work hard and these professors go by how much knowledge your aquiring not how much work you can get done in a limited time period of time.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. GO TO CLASS! (if you just show up, half the work is done.) 2. TIME MANAGEMENT -keep up with your assignments so you dont get over whelmed. 3. DONT GET DISCOURAGED! -if you dont do so well on an assignment dont dwell on it, move on and work harder on the next one.

Great for these types of students

SLCC is great for any student but I think it is a place to start out and to find out where to go. I tranferred from UVU because I hit a bump in the road. SLCC has helped me to out me back on my feet. So if you need somewhere to find what you want and what you may be looking for SLCC is the place to go.

    What to do for fun

My favorite thing SLCC does is puts on movies in the amphatheater. It is a lot of fun and you get to engoy good movies for free. They even have popcorn there.

    Food and Dining

There is a food court at both the Taylorsville and Jordan Campus that have a nice variety of food. It is also nice that close by are restauraunts you can easily get to.

    Dorm Life

SLCC is a community college so there isn't much of a dorm life. However there are apartments around and can be cheaper when you share with someone else. For me I am just living with some family who live close to SLCC and it has been a really good experience.

    Academic Rigor

There is a standard at SlCC that I honestly didn't expect. The bar is set high and I love that about SLCC. I really feel that it is a school that wants to help each student succeed. It also has the resources to help each student succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't overwhelm yourself! Make sure you take what classes you can handle and don't overload yourself. If you do it ends up being a waste of money and time. Not everyone can handle the same things so just because someone can handle a full 21 hours of credits does not mean you can as well and that is okay. Do what is best for you and what will help you the most in the long run. Do what YOU can handle not what someone else can.

    In three sentences

Trying to get ready for college but not sure where to start, SLCC is the place to go. There are great classes with great teachers. SLCC always has information of other colleges and how far you can go with SLCC.

Books are ridiculously expensive and it seems that there is a trend towards unbound books, which cannot be sold back at the end of the term. You're paying university textbook prices if you buy your books from the campus store or PJ's.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do for fun around any of the SLCC campuses. The school itself puts on different events, they even have a baseball team if you're into that. Many of the LDS Institutes nearby also offer some great social events for free. Other than that, you have downtown Salt Lake just a few minutes away, plenty of parks, Park City just up the mountain, lots of fun centers like Boondocks where you can race go-karts, plkay laser tag, and other fun things. If you can't find anything fun to do, then it's because you're not looking for it.

    Food and Dining

The food at SLCC is hit and miss, the cafe at the Miller Campus is one of my favorites. Nothing like a juicy burger and fresh fries before class to keep you focused. It's mostly good food, I haven't had anything bad yet, nothing really exceptional either. Most campuses do have some type of cafe or cafeteria where you can get some grub, or a quickie at any of the vending machines all over the place.

    Dorm Life

SLCC doesn't offer much for dorms, I personally do not stay in any of their dorms. But I have not heard anything bad about what they do have to offer. They also have posts in most campuses of places for rent in the surrounding area to help those who may not already be living nearby.

    Academic Rigor

The courses offered at SLCC are just challenging enough to keep you going. Most professors will take time to help you one on one or over email too if you need the extra help.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you pay attention to the orientation, I know it's hard to do so, but they really tell you all you need to know to get started. Be sure to see one of the counselors there as well, they are super helpful and all are easy to get in touch with.

    In three sentences

With campuses all across the Salt Lake Valley, getting to classes is convenient and easy. The price is also pretty fair, it's a great place to get a jump start on your degree or even to complete a degree. The professors there are also very helpful and it's also very easy to work with the various offices to get the help you need to have a great academic experience.

I have never felt afraid for my safety on campus, and that's coming from someone who's on campus until 10pm.

Great for these types of students

Salt Lake Community College is great for those who don't have the finances to start off at a university.

    Bang for the buck

Like I mentioned before, the smartest thing to do is to start at Salt Lake Community College and get your generals completed, then transfer to a University because the cost is a lot lower.

    What to do for fun

They do host a lot of activities that are completely free of charge and include: movie nights with soda and popcorn provided, cultural dances, Halloween trick-or-treating etc.

    Food and Dining

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

I definitely recommend meeting with an academic advisor before every semester because requirements and prerequisites change all the time. I would also encourage students to create and join study groups because it helps you understand concepts a lot better.

The classes are small and if the general studies are a good deal for how much you pay versus a 4 year college that cost thee times more. If you know what your major is , the specific teachers help you better understand what you are getting into, rather than just give wild guesses.

    In three sentences

Teachers take their time to teach you , instead of just reading from the book. Lots of ways to transfer and get a good job at SLCC

    Bang for the buck

SLCC's lower tuition allows me to commute into school every day of the week on grant cash. Perfect for attendance.

    What to do for fun

Since you are in the Salt Lake valley, all of the usual fun applies. Twenty or so minutes from downtown makes it worth the commute.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

    There are no dormitories.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the classes are just as good (if not better) than other colleges; a lot of staff members have direct ties to teaching histories at other colleges.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to go in with an open attitude. There is so much opportunity on campus.

    In three sentences

Salt Lake Community College offers students a great opportunity to step ahead. Their focus on small classrooms, great staff, and broad subjects makes it easy to attend. Most importantly, this place has a huge community drive and opportunity flourishes because of it.

Great for these types of students

I would highly recommend this campus for anyone in Utah looking to go to school for music recording, music performance, and film!

    Bang for the buck

As I stated before, Salt Lake Community College really is top notch for being a community college. Especially for the music and fil programs who just received millions of dollars worth of new facilities and resources, the bang for your buck at this school just might be the best in the state.

    What to do for fun

Salt Lake Community College has a great music program and their concerts are always a blast to attend. The plays and theater performances are also always great. I would highly recommend going to either of those whenever you have a chance. Like other schools, you also have the opportunity to take advantage of students discounts at places all around Salt Lake City when you are a student of SLCC. If you're at the Taylorsville Campus, I recommend checking out Fashion Place Mall and theaters not too far away at Jordan Landing. If you're at the South City Campus, go and explore all that Salt Lake City has to offer! Not only are there endless entertainment options in the city, there are also endless mountains to go explore and hike on just minutes away.

    Food and Dining

The food at SLCC rocks. Options for just about anything you can think of, reasonable prices, and of course, coffee all over the campus!

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived in the dorms that Salt Lake Community College offers, but can speak for Salt Lake and say with confidence that it is a safe and fun place to live.

    Academic Rigor

You would expect that Salt Lake Community College would be less academically rigorous since it's a community college, but don't let yourself be fooled. The classes are tough and are taught by not only professors, but people who have been in the field actually performing what they are teaching and passing along. Be prepared to work hard and you'll get a lot out of your education at SLCC.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students shouldn't be afraid to network. There are many professors and tens of thousands of students who attend SLCC. All of whom are looking for great students and peers to work and connect with. Be friendly, talk to people in your program, and make your time in college worth your effort.

    In three sentences

Salt Lake Community College is a community college located all throughout the Salt Lake Valley without the community college feel. The professors, school facilities, and resources are top notch. Campus Safety

The small campus makes you feel safe. You don't have to worry as much about walking around a huge campus with no one around. I have heard nothing about campus threats or negatives toward the safety.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs that do fun activities. You can easily find something you are interested in. There is a gym on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus that is free to students.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to save money on generals. Students who learn better in small groups and who need help finding a path before you go to a University.

    Food and Dining

The food is really good but kind of expensive for a college students. You may not want to eat there everyday unless you plan on spending 6-10 dollars on each meal or 4 dollars on a smoothie. There are two different into dining areas within the food court area and the more comfortable area is always packed. The outdoor areas usually have bees so you may find yourself going inside on a nice day.

    Dorm Life

    The campus has no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

All in all the classes are on great academic level and are easier to understand and get through due to the class sizes. The small classes make learning a lot easier, and therefore make the classes easier. The professors learn who you and and what your strength and weaknesses are and this makes the classes easier to get through. The classes can become easy after awhile so you may want to try to challenge yourself more by picking harder projects or paper topics.

    Tips for prospective students

1.The food court is more expensive then you would expect, so bring your own lunch, eat there very little or wait until you get home. 2. If you want to talk to an adviser you may need to make them talk to you. Some of them seem to rush you out of their office. 3. Pay attention. Don't talk and don't text, you will miss something important. 4. Take breaks when your studying. If you lose focus you will have a hard time getting it back or remembering what you just read. 5. Talk to the people in your classes. It is always beneficial for you to have someone to talk to and ask question to. 6. Show up to class! Missing to many classes could ruin your grades. 7. Remember that you can do it. What ever it is.

    In three sentences

Salt Lake Community College is a great school for students looking to save money while earning their generals. The small classes are great for people who like to learn in small groups and in a more personal setting. The teachers and staff I have met seem to be happy with where they are and are always willing to answer your questions.

    Bang for the buck

I am a non-resident student and feel like I'm just paying my way through college to get a degree, sadly not learning too much.

    What to do for fun

It's a commuter campus, so there is nothing to do.

    Food and Dining

They have a couple of dining places on each campus.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I had one really great professor, but a lot of them don't require you to push yourself. I haven't really found a professor that knows how to balance work. Either they give you too much or not enough at all.

    Tips for prospective students

Most of the people who attend are of the older ages. No one I met seemed to be fresh out of high school, and I was, which made me considered to be the baby in all of my classes. I eventually got bored with lecture professors and am now doing all online courses

    In three sentences

There are multiple campuses that make it easy for a variety of people from multiple places to attend. They have a wide range of options for online classes. To add, they offer a ton of Associate's Degrees as well as options for prerequisites and general education in order to transfer to a University.
