Great for these types of students

Those who believe finances hold you back from earning a degree and getting a quality education. (It doesn't, trust me!) Those who are looking to save literally thousands of dollars on obtaining a higher education. Those who are not quite ready for the responsibilities associated with going off to a four year university (i.e. living by yourself, homesickness)

    Tips for prospective students

Don't fret about the negative connotation community colleges have within the community of high school students planning on attending college, think about what is best for you financially, and if you could personally handle the shock of actual university life right off the bat. Remember, community college is just a starting point, you will get there eventually!

    Bang for the buck

I cannot express enough how much of a 'steal' San Antonio College is. You are definitely not wasting your money here! And the greatest part is there is very little of it involved, especially compared to what you could be paying at the university level!

    Am enjoying being here

The campus at San Antonio college is visually appealing, and small enough so that buildings are easily spotted and identifiable. There is nothing more important to a college campus than easy navigability! There are so many different community opportunities, and you meet the most interesting people!

    Am learning a lot

The professors at San Antonio college are extremely well rounded, diverse, and impressive! I have yet to feel like I am not learning anything from them. Without great teachers, you have a lesser chance of getting a personally useful education, so why not get a good education? You're paying for it, so take a chance and learn something! There is a wide variety of classes offered at San Antonio college, so take advantage of it and learn as much as you can with some very interesting professors by your side.

Great for these types of students

Students looking to save a lot of money, students looking to brush up on basic reading / writing / math skills that they may have struggled with in high school, students who don't care about dorm life but want a quality education and a good start before transferring to a four year university.

    Tips for prospective students

Have a plan B for paying for classes due to the likelihood of financial aid issues. Research potential professors before registering, then, when you find a good one, sign up for his or her class EARLY! Make use of the free help in the labs. Get to know at least one person in class for when you are absent. Get in the habit of studying or reviewing EVERY DAY if you are not used to doing so. Oh, and forget trying to find a parking space close; give up and walk a few blocks, it's good exercise anyway!

    Bang for the buck

Definitely get a lot for your money when compared to a traditional four year school. It's a big savings if you get your basics here and then transfer. Beware the student financial aid departments though; recent years have shown a ton of problems and headaches. They are understaffed and chronically plagued with problems that cause issues for students who depend on financial aid, yet they advertise all the time to recruit new students. It makes no sense. Financial aid office is ALWAYS crowded with huge lines. They need to fix this. What good is a bang for the buck if you can't actually get the money in hand to pay for school?

    Am enjoying being here

I am an older student (late 30s) so I haven't found much of a peer group but I've still met some very interesting people, though I tend to connect more with my professors as we have more in common due to age! The campus is attractive, but there are some issues with housekeeping and maintenance (rooms too hot or cold, toilets not working, gym facilities dirty).. and the food options in the student center are very high priced. Not student friendly in that regard.

    Am learning a lot

Professors are wonderful if you choose wisely. Use available professor review sites! I had bad experiences until I learned to do this, now I've had nothing but awesome professor and interesting experiences. I don't feel like I've received any kind of lesser education than if I'd taken the same classes at a larger 4 year University. On the contrary, I think SAC students are better off due to the small class sizes. No huge lecture hall classes here at all! One negative is that the professors have pretty tight schedules with regard to what material they MUST cover and as a result, class discussions are often cut short. I have had several professors who would have enjoyed longer discussion times but there just wasn't enough time. For the most part I feel I've been intellectually challenged, but some classes ARE of the read and regurgitate variety which is disappointing.

Great for these types of students

    All types :)

    Tips for prospective students

Defiantly talk to an advisor early that way you can get settled and not rushed with anything. Take advantage of the counseling as well and also the student center.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is very cheap and affordable also financial aid is a huge saver. On top of everything SAC offers there own scholarships which are helpful as well.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the campus its very much, it is nice and well maintained.

    Am learning a lot

The staff overall have a great connection with the student body and they try there best to assist you with whatever needs you may have. All of my professors that I have had have been very knowledgeable in the subject that is being taught and I am happy to have taken classes here.

Great for these types of students

I'd suggest it to nursing students, drafting, and anything just wanting to get their basics out of the way at a nice cost. Also good if you need to take any remedial courses.

    Tips for prospective students

My recommendation if you are attending/thinking to attend is to copy everything you turn in to the clerical staff, call them often to make sure they're on top of things and when it comes to class order/requirements to just ask the department professors themselves rather than the counselors. Some of the professors have even said that this is a far better approach than asking any of the counselors on staff.

    Bang for the buck

Like I mentioned, the cost is amazing. I wouldn't move into the area just to attend school here, but if you're in SA, taking your basics here is a great idea.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm really not enjoying it here, the staff behind the scenes at the school could use with a GREAT deal of help. They've lost my financial aid papers once causing the school to drop me from classes - which cost me a semester of education, and the counselors don't really know about the classes/course load the school requires.

    Am learning a lot

The courses here are actually great. From what I hear we're on par, if not ahead, of the major colleges in the area, which for the cost of the school itself is rather amazing. The majority of the teachers I've had are fantastic at their job as well.

Great for these types of students

Second chance students, nursing students and anyone who wants a good basic education for a good price. San Antonio College offers so many degrees I didn't know about so check them all out because you may change your mind after you figure them all out.

    Tips for prospective students

Get a parking permit and make sure you know the best places to park before you happen to be late one day. There are also many railroad tracks surrounding the school so sometimes you may be stuck on the wrong side of the tracks. The roads are a little potholed around the school so don't speed and be careful.

    Bang for the buck

This is a great campus to acquire your basics at. Many of my professors also taught at local Universities as well. This made me more comfortable with the education that I received.

    Am enjoying being here

This campus is a good size and there was so many resources for the students to use. The library and librarians were amazing and so helpful. There are two gyms that were open for students to use which was helpful. I was amazed by at what San Antonio College had to offer. The parking can be a little frustrating but is easily mastered.

    Am learning a lot

This was my first semester at this school and everyone was very friendly and helpful. In the beginning I was unhappy that I had to take a Student Development class to get to know the campus since it was my first semester but by the end I was really grateful for the class. I was able to take many tours and learn about every resource that was at my fingertips that I never would have known I had access to.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you get there super early to find parking and find classes. also have your map of sac handy, you will need it. the buildings are spread out and you can go from one side to the other and can get lost easliy with no map!!!

    In three sentences

sac is offering so much more than what they first did when i attened in 2003. i love the fact that everything is spread out and doesnt seem so cluttered, and no one has to walk shoulder to shoulder like some colleges. also very clean!!!!

    Bang for the buck

Here at SAC you are getting all your basics for a fraction of the cost. Compared to paying 20,000 for the same thing.

    What to do for fun

Many kids that are there for the whole day usually hang out in the Loftin because there is a lounge with ping pong, Foosball, and computers. Also there is a small work out rooms that is free with a student Id.

    Food and Dining

At the Loftin Student center there aren't many options and the food that is there is kind of expensive.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms but supposedly they are building some soon.

    Academic Rigor

Although it is college the professors don't expect too much and they prepare you for the test that aren't too hard. If you took AP classes in high school then it'll be like that.

    Tips for prospective students

The classes are small, just like high school, so you don't have to worry about being lost in large lecture halls. It's very important though that you do not slack off because the ultimate goal is to transfer.

    In three sentences

San Antonio College is a great place for students that want to get a few credit hours under their belt for a fraction of a four university cost. The campus is surprisingly nice for being a community college. More importantly here at SAC it is what you want it to be.

    Campus Safety

This has been my only problem with SAC. Located right in the downtown area, it is in your best interest to lock away all your valuable and park in a crowded area. There are a lot of reports of cars that have been broken into and plain out stolen. Other than that, there are always policemen patrolling campus though I have yet to see any sort of fight break out.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs here! If you think of anything, it probably has a club dedicated to it. The events here are awesome. SAC is a proud advocate of acceptance and equality for everyone. I suggest you attend the lectures; they are all very interesting and the professors are very passionate in their speeches. You will learn so much from them. There is not a week where SAC does not have some sort of fundraiser, run, or event going on.

Great for these types of students

Those looking to get their basics out of the way for cheap People looking to get back in school Those that are not sure what they want to do yet People that are looking to take a course just for the sake of learning something new

    What to do for fun

Karaoke Mondays! If you are not afraid of singing in front of a crowd, you cannot miss this every Monday throughout the year--unless there is some other event going on. The Loftin Center has an array of computers upstairs that you can use, two table tennis areas, fusball, and televisions you may borrow to ply video games. Sometimes they hold Just Dance contests and Mortal Kombat tournaments. For those that are into working out, downstairs SAC has an open gym with treadmills, weights, and other equipment.

    Food and Dining

Food here is pretty good, though a bit expensive. There is a Starbucks inside and there are three stations from whence to purchase different meals. If the food is out of your budget, there is a Subway in campus, and just across the street there is an Italian place with the cheapest, most delicious food there. If you show them your I.D you get free iced tea.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms in SAC

    Academic Rigor

The professors here love what they do and it shows in their genuine care for their students. Like they say, if there is a will there is a way, and if you really care about your education they are more than glad to help or clarify whatever it is you need help with. As for students, it varies. Depending on which classes you take, especially if you enroll in STEM courses you will sense the competition and the determination of those students with higher aspirations. Overall there is an ambience of a schism separating those that are here to progress and those are forced to attend.

    Tips for prospective students

Always check your teacher in ratemyprofessor.com Enroll in classes early Be involved; there is a ton of fun things to do!

    In three sentences

San Antonio College is a potpourri of diverse cultures with a very accepting and relaxed demeanor. The staff is always mindful of your needs and is just as diverse as the student population; raging from conservative elder to young liberals. Clubs abound, as well as school-held events almost always directed by the students.

    What to do for fun

Definitely join clubs because clubs are a great way to meet people and have fun doing something you're interested in. It also will give you something to do on weekends if you're looking for anything.

    Food and Dining

Being that I work at the bookstore and go to classes, I am on campus all day and don't always have time to leave and grab lunch so it's great that they have the cafeteria where I can grab something to eat quickly and it's even pretty delicious.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms so living at home and saving money is always great, right?

    Academic Rigor

I have learned so much after attending for just one semester. The instructors are great and challenge you. The information is really great as well and very informative. The textbooks the instructors use are very easy to read and understand so it's just great!

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going to go to this college, be prepared. It's not like high school and the instructors will try to be tough with you and not give second chances for late homework so make sure to do all your work on time. Also, I work at the bookstore and I would say to get all of your books about a week or two before your classes actually begin because the bookstore will be crazy the first few weeks of school with students putting getting their books off till the last minute.

    In three sentences

Overall it's a great school to attend. The people and administration are very nice and outgoing. Another plus is the tuition is pretty cheap and they have payment plans and offer federal student aid which is a great help.

    Campus Safety

Campus police seem helpful, and recently sponsored a bike registration to minimize bicycle theft on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Good choice if you're looking to not spend a ton of cash, great place to get your associates degree, or transfer to a four year school.

    What to do for fun

As I mentioned, there are plenty of student activities available. There are multiple clubs, intellectual and physical alike. Of course there's always joining a fraternity or sorority, and the atmosphere provided lends itself to plenty more to do in the downtown area.

    Food and Dining

The cafe food seems to be that of your average mid sized campus. Not a ton of selection but there are sandwiches, pizza, plates of different food, and the like. Good drink selection.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms, so I shall refrain from discussing them.

    Academic Rigor

My classes so far have been challenging, which I love. There is an excellent math lab on campus, which I generally use bi-weekly. The professors I have seem to want to help you make it through and have been open to meet with students after class to discuss class work and/or other issues.

    Tips for prospective students

If you live a little ways out, consider getting a VIA bus pass, you will save a small fortune in gas and parking rates. Also, consider packing your own lunch if you are trying to save on unnecessary expenses. As with most schools, create your schedule early in order to get your first pick in classes and class hours.

    In three sentences

SAC is a great choice for a mid size college, if that's what you have in mind. The campus is well located, and there are plenty of student activities. The classrooms are a perfect size for me, not tiny, but definitely not large.

An extensive variety of clubs and activities.

Great for these types of students

    None that I know of.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition for per semester is about 831, compare that to other colleges its a steal for a great education.

    What to do for fun

There are so many sports and extracurricular activities so you will always have stuff to do. You can also just hang out at the campus with friends there isn't any rules against that. Its more like your home than a campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is good, and really cheap.

    Dorm Life

They just opened up some amazing dorms , there more like apartments at very affordable prices.

    Academic Rigor

There are easy and hard classes but the course load is pretty evenly distributed throughout the semester, as long a you are able to manage your time you will succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

San Antonio College has so much to offer, whether you are a single or married with children, old or young this campus has so much to offer everyone. I myself and a full time mom with a full time job and I taken a full schedule, it has been easy since now they offer classes online and at the campus. I would recommend this campus to everyone, all of the Alamo colleges are incredible.

    In three sentences

San Antonio College is conveniently located close to the center of the city. Most teachers are amazing, intelligent and extremely helpful. The curriculum is above standard and I feel that I am being very well prepared to get my Associates.

    Campus Safety

it is farely safe, nothing has happened to me personally but every so often you will get an e-mail that contains an alert of a cell phone or personal item theft that has been recorded that day. campus security arrives to break up any scuffles or missunderstanding fairly quickly, as i have heard.

    Greek Life

i cannot comment on the greek life as i dont know what that is. i have heard of a sorority that actually gives out free food for needy students as well as employees of this college district.

Breakfast is okay, if your looking for easy bean and cheese taco or a breakfast sandwich but you want more, steer clear. Lunch has more variety and is better, from pizza to a salad bar. It's a tad bit on the expensive side, the drink cost more then they at the vending machines. There's always lines because only two registers are open.

Campus safety I have to say has improved while attending they now have frequent officers patrolling the area at night and phones accessible to students in case of an emergency.

    Bang for the buck

I think it's very worth attending a community college and the fact that the local book store is next door to the school helps tremendoulsly.

    What to do for fun

Well they offer tons of things to do for fun, and also give some great student discounts to see professional teams, movie theatres, and other local events.

    Food and Dining

I am not sure what this pertains to. I assume it means the cafeteria. It is not bad I can say I didnt eat in there much not because it was bad, but because I only took evening and online classes.

    Academic Rigor

I believe that they do set the standards high, but they also teach you how to meet their expectations.

    Tips for prospective students

Well I would say that college is where you pretty much grow up. In school you will realize that the responsibility is as much as yours and it is the teachers and staff members, so do what you have to do to get where you want to be. I mean study and work hard and don't be a complainer.

It's an open campus, but the police presence provides a decent deterrent.

    Greek Life

None to be had, really. I'm sure there are some fraternity and sorority recruiters for transfer students.

    Clubs and Activities

The Student Government Association is a good way to learn more about how the college operates. Beyond that, I don't have too much experience with the clubs on campus.

Great for these types of students

Engineering, Nursing, and Science students who don't want to drop a significant chunk of change for the classes they'll need.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's nothing that unusual about the campus, other than the constant activity and availability of things to sign up for in the main walkway.

    Bang for the buck

The instructors are good to go, and higher quality than I've found at the last community college I attended.

    What to do for fun

I would tell anyone interested in campus life to become part of the Student Government Association, as that will give them a chance to interface with the college much more effectively, and allow students to affect change that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. Of course, this is coming from a USMC veteran. So, for any normal person, it would qualify as edible.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms, as this is a community college.

    Academic Rigor

Though the classes aren't too terribly difficult, you would do well to apply yourself and learn as much as possible. If and when you transfer to a four-year university, you will need that knowledge and practice.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your information together early. Especially your transcripts. If you plan to transfer, get multiple copies of all of your transcripts. It may take time to collect them later.

    In three sentences

San Antonio is a good place to start for Engineering majors. Though they lack VA counselors, the ones they do have are excellent. If you are a veteran and just need to see a counselor or adviser, your best bet is to see one of the standard student counselors.

    Tips for prospective students

One of the best advice I can give is, MAKE FRIENDS, be social and find people that have things in common with you, like a study buddy. Go to class, attendance makes the professor think higher of you and it helps your retain more information. Keep up with studying every week, review and always be on top of homework. Nevertheless TUTORING, don't ever be shy to ask for help, trust me you will receive it at the Math Lab, or the Writing Center, SLAC Lab. Ask the teacher and the students for information, but make sure it's right and check more than one source. Signing up for classes, make sure you know what the degree plan is and stick with it. Hanging out and partying can wait, the weekend is better for that, you can perform better with a clear mind. A healthy mind, in a healthy body! Always Smile!

There isn't any difficulty learning at the community college. The professors are there to help and guide you.The class size is surprising to most students because the tuition is so reasonable. Campus Safety

The safety here is fairly well for their location since it's right downtown. During my first semester there was only one reported crime and even then they sent us emails right away and published it in the school's newspaper. Even if you decide to stay at the library till 8 p.m. there's always student walking around and security where you least expect them.

Great for these types of students

Any type of student is welcome here at San Antonio College, No student is denied an education if you have the money, but even then tuition isn't even that much. Since so many students get admitted every semester the school is very diverse and there are a lot of opportunities for students to get to where they want. Basically any student who has drive or is at least trying to get an associates degree fast is welcome at SAC.

    Bang for the buck

Many people come to community colleges mainly because of their wage in budget. While many university students go there because their afraid they won't get their moneys' worth, they don't realize that it's just about the same. Here at SAC you won't be disappointed because people that have graduated from there such as my brothers don't regret starting off there rather than paying triple the price to get the same classes and level of education.

    What to do for fun

Their is always something to do on campus. Even on your way to the library there is always a poster you can spot with new ways to meet new people and get involved with the school as well as the community. They also have an open gym and pool where everyone is really friendly.

    Food and Dining

The food here is very good, but doesn't have a lot of healthy choices. It is good to go to though if you have scattered day classes, and on Fridays after 2 p.m. everything is half off because the food is quite pricey.

    Dorm Life

San Antonio College doesn't have dorms at the time but is always keeping you to date to the closest and cheapest apartments to the campus. Our Ranger newspaper has actually just decided to come up with dorms for the Fall of 2013 and applications are being taken.

    Academic Rigor

Although some teachers here at school are hard to understand because of their accent, I was very much impressed with the equal level of education they put forth in preparing for a university. When first coming here I was a little skeptical on how much I would really get out the school, but after attending just one class I knew it was the school for me.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips I would give to prospective students is to not stress too much about the work. There is always tutoring sessions available in every department and time should be spent there instead of trying to socialize because opportunities to make friends will always be everywhere and students here prefer to be friends with the kid who studies rather than the kid who gets their work done at the last minute and tries to just get by with a C in class. I recommend being and not trying to down play yourself because in the end nobody wants to talk to somebody who doesn't have anything to offer and only wants to party and never study.

    In three sentences

San Antonio one of the biggest and most known Community Colleges out there. There is always something to do on campus whether it is participating in physical clubs to religious events. There is never a dull moment on campus because they always come up with holiday decorations or new ways to make foreign students feel welcome here.

    Greek Life

There's a few greek houses but I'm not one to be in a greek house, so unfortunately I'm not very helpful here.

    Clubs and Activities

There's usually something for everyone, it's just a matter of hanging out in the student lounge and reading a few bulletin boards.

Great for these types of students

Great for anyone wanting to get a start on controlling their life, career and education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Not that I'm aware of. San Antonio College is your typical, traditional community college with lots of different programs. I'm sure it's well on it's way to offering bachelor degree programs at some point.

    Bang for the buck

San Antonio College is bang for your buck, especially if you're a local. For two classes you're looking at 486 dollars and 483 for one class. So of course might as well take two. There are a lot of different programs to help with textbooks including an option for women who are in financial need. The Women's Empowerment Center has a textbook lending program.

    What to do for fun

Did I mention this was minutes from downtown San Antonio? This also includes being minutes away from River Center Mall, the Alamo, the Alamodome and on the bus you'll be a few trips away from a Spurs game, Fiesta Texas or even Sea World.

    Food and Dining

Minutes from downtown San Antonio, a quick bus ride will get you into the heart of San Antonio and there you'll have your pick of what to eat. It's just not going to be on a college student budget, but if you hop on the bus going away from downtown you can get to the local grocery store and pick up whatever.

    Dorm Life

There's not a lot if anything in the way of Dorm Life. At least not right now, but San Antonio College is striving to create some sort of Dorm Life resemblance with off-campus apartment housing. Because it is a community college, your dorm life is typically living at your own place, or with parents/family.

    Academic Rigor

This is a college after all, even a if you seem think otherwise of community colleges. This is a great step for those whose goal it is to enter a traditional four year university as San Antonio College will prepare for the rigor of what a four year university will give you and then some. Nothing's perfect so you get out as much out of this academically as you put in.

    Tips for prospective students

The early bird gets the worm, and when you do things early here at San Antonio College you can put your mind at ease. From registration to financial aid it's best to get this done well ahead of time, so you can do your best to prepare for your classes. Talk with your prospective professors, and get your materials so you can be ahead of the curve.

Inexpensive, and in-depth San Antonio College offers a variety of technical and professional programs without breaking the bank. There are no dorms, but that will all change soon. There is a lot of business around San Antonio College. With the addition of the Tobin Lofts nearing, I believe the campus life experience will definitely grow.

    Greek Life

The only thing I've been a part of at SAC involving the Greek life is the honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. It hold 5 star status and just gained recognition at a conference in California for the exceptional work we do.

    Clubs and Activities

SAC has a tremendous amount of clubs and organizations to get involved with. I've been fortunate enough to be a part of several clubs, committees, and focus groups. These groups offer a chance to network with San Antonio area clubs and guilds.

Great for these types of students

Students who don't feel prepared financially to take on the responsibilities of attending a large university. Even for adults who are trying to go back to school. I have plenty of friends who have children and they come back to SAC to better there lives at a low cost.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Koehler House that is owned by San Antonio College. It is an old eclectic home that was once owned by the founder of San Antonio's Pearl Brewery. The house is beautiful and a lot of artwork, weddings, and ceremonies take place there.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like San Antonio College has prepared me for continuing my education at UT Austin. More than that, it has prepared me to be an effective leader and role model. I've gained a tremendous amount of knowledge at an affordable price. It was definitely less expensive than most community colleges.

    What to do for fun

SAC provides plenty of opportunities for students to get engaged. A lot of people get together and play guitar, there are bands that come to play on campus, car shows, photo booths and water dunking contests. Recently we had a mechanical bull at one of our festivals.

    Food and Dining

The food is great when you first enter SAC, but after two years it gets old. Eating here can be a bit expensive also. Lucky for everyone there a plenty of restaurants around the campus to supply quick and healthy meals at a good price.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at San Antonio College. But in Fall 2013 there will be Tobin Lofts provided to students who would like to rent them. The lofts are conveniently positioned across the street from campus. From the looks of construction, the lofts will look amazing when complete.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor at SAC is difficult. Even for a liberal arts major like me, I had to study pretty hard, especially for those teachers who absolutely push you to succeed. I've been challenged. It has helped me grow intellectually and cognitively.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs and organizations! I am in Phi Theta Kappa - Beta Nu Chapter. SACs PTK is one of the best in the country. I am in the Honors Academy, I'm a student ambassador, and several other clubs and campus committees. Take full advantage of the resources available.

    In three sentences

San Antonio College is an outstanding institution with incredibly honest and committed faculty and administration. My time here as a student has been nothing short of spectacular. When I entered two years ago I was in shambles, now I am transferring to UT Austin and SAC has a lot to do with that.

Inside the Loftin building, they often have music performances and karaoke. Also in this same building the kitchen can be found.

    Bang for the buck

It is by far one of the most economically friendly Two year College.

    What to do for fun

For fun, you could check out the gym or just walk around the campus for there will be stands supporting activities/fun raisers/programs that you might find interesting.

    Food and Dining

As far as the food goes, it seems fair priced and definitely cheaper than most fast food restaurants. The quality is outstanding and fresh, but the kitchen seems a bit small. The dinning areas are well spaced out and allow up to 100 students to be dinning at the same time.

    Dorm Life

I have not acquired a dorm, for i do not have accredited knowledge of my own in this college area.

    Academic Rigor

Their academics can become challenging at first, but once students have experienced one semester the next semester you have a confidence build up.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend SAC for undecided students, not only because it is cheap in tuition, but it has so many opportunities and credits may transfer over to other colleges.

    In three sentences

San Antonio College or better known (SAC), is a very involved school with the students it receives. They provide a very good source of information, such as an information desk. Thus making it possible to have an answer to all the questions you may have or problems you face. Also not only is the information desk available, but teachers are very helpful if you ever get lost.

It's pretty safe. It's down town San Antonio so we have a lot of homeless people on the streets surrounding us but they never bother you. As with any thing in life, be aware of your surroundings and you'll be more then fine.

    Clubs and Activities

Honors program on campus is great. Free to join. If you take 4 core honors classes and complete a small project at the end of the year you get to graduate with honors! (btw this is not a Greek program)

Great for these types of students

Parents! There is a day care on campus. The day care is the main reason why I picked this school. I am so glad I did. My son and I both made tons of friends and we learn new thing every day.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every semester they give out free t-shirts and stuffed animals!

    Bang for the buck

It's a community college so you pay way less then you would at a university. It is worth it to start here and get your moneys worth of one on one teaching before moving on to a bigger school.Defiantly worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

Hog Wild! Again right across the street and completely legit.

    Food and Dining

Main Street Pizza! It is right across the street and it is amazing. The bread alone is enough delicious enough to eat as a meal. You get free tea with your student ID and if you go online you'll be entered to receive a free lunch. Make friends with the staff they are all real nice.

    Academic Rigor

It is as hard as you make it. If you keep up with your studies and attempt to enjoy class, it will be easy. However, if you do the opposite it will be academically challenging. Oh, and go to class as much as possible! It helps.

    Tips for prospective students

Dive head in! Meet and befriend your teachers. Befriend the Writing Center staff and your advisor. Do all your assignments with a high level of effort and you will have a 4.0. Believe me it feels good.

    Campus Safety

Well, SAC is located near Downtown SA...which means that there are beggars who come on campus at times. The cops are always on patrol, but they cannot be everywhere all at once. Crime is sometimes a problem at SAC, but I believe that the crime rate has decreased during my last semester. To be on the safe side, bring pepper spray with you always.

    Clubs and Activities

As I said, most of the clubs at SAC advertise a lot in the mall section of the campus. Some of their attractions can be quite appealing, and they sometimes give out free food and water! You have to check your calender to see when an event will be advertised.

Great for these types of students

If you like to keep in shape, SAC is the place to be. Despite the fact that SAC is surrounded by fast food eateries, San Antonio College has one of the best kineseology departments of all of the Alamo Colleges. Almost all of the coaches are skilled, experienced and great motivators. You will see many people running/jogging all over the place. It is very motivating!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some times there is never a dull a moment at SAC. The mall section of SAC is the center areas where students advertise for their clubs by selling snacks, cooking and selling hot food, or surprise flash mobs. The best way to know when a club that you may be interested in will appear in the mall, read the school's calendar located at San Antonio College's homepage.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not sure what this means, but if you are a student looking for sells on supplies, then you may have to visit your local Wal-mart. There is a Wal-mart located on the north central side of town, but the traffic can make your trip a bit difficult and time consuming.

    What to do for fun

SAC is located between two malls: River Center Mall and North Star Mall. North Star Mall is located on the north central side of town, and River Center is in the heart of Downtown San Antonio. VIA buses 3 and 4 can take you to either mall, but be sure to let the bus driver know which mall you are going to. River Center Mall is a tourist attraction mall. It does not have many stores, but the sights and attractions are always memorable, especially the Alamo. The food is rather expensive, but there are restaruants around the mall that sells great food at reasonable prices. Please visit Fuddruckers! North Star Mall is filled with several stores and has a huge food court. North Star is constantly packed with people; it is considered to be an 'it' mall for sure. North Star is wide...you will be doing a lot of walking throughout that mall, but it is worth it most of the time.

    Food and Dining

SAC is surrounded by diners, coffee shops and fast food restaurants. The best part about is that all of these eateries are in walking distances. Here are the fast food restaurants and coffee shops you can walk to: Burger King, Quizno's, Subway, Jack-in-a-Box, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Bill Millers, Sonic, and one of the favorites---Main Street Pizza. Down town SA is just a 10 minute bus ride away, and there are several fine dining restaurants you can eat at. However, the finer the shop, the more costly the meal.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in dorms, but dorms are being built near the college as I speak. The colleges should be completed by 2014-Spring.

    Academic Rigor

I've only encountered three bad instructors during my current years at SAC. Other than those three, my instructors taught me well. You can check the score of your instructor by going to rate-my-professor.com. Some of the ratings may be exaggerated, but most of them are fair in judgement.

    Tips for prospective students

When applying to SAC, make sure that you are step ahead of the financial aid department by having all of your paper work prepared. Have your high school transcripts prepared, and be sure to get up bright and early during to meet with financial aid advisers. The lines can become very long.

    In three sentences

San Antonio College, on a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 4. SAC is a college that continues to add on new buildings. It is one of the most multicultural campuses I've ever been on, and SAC is surrounded by great places to eat lunch or dinner.

    Campus Safety

I feel safe on this campus, since there is always a crowd, and also many security alarms through out the campus and parking lots.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a decent amount of clubs and activities, and some times the campus will look like a fair with stands. I recommend students utilize their time, and try some.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for all students who are not sure of what the really want to major in, since the teachers seem to be really informative and in to the curriculum. The classes are not too expensive so it would be more affordable to dabble in different areas of subject studies.

    Bang for the buck

This is a beautiful campus, and i have now become very familiar with it, but i am excited to venture out, in hopes that my next university will be a lot more organized and more of an enjoyable experience.

    What to do for fun

There is a beautiful park called San Pedro park right across the street. There is also many bars in the area, for those who like to drink. The campus has open weight room, tennis courts, and a lap pool.

    Food and Dining

This campus is located in a really fun part of San Antonio, there is a lot of places to eat varying from fast food to restaurants. I was a regular at the Cove, an organic local place.

    Dorm Life

This campus does not offer dorms yet. There is a complex down the street in construction currently though.

    Academic Rigor

I have learned a lot at this campus, and the academic rigor is something to be ready for, since not many of my good grades came easily. All teachers are different though, and i do not believe an entire campus's academic rigor can be determined by one persons biased perspective.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend going the SACC website and find as much information as you can yourself, since that is where most faculty will send you any ways. I also recommend utilizing the new GPS that they have started, which is a degree planner, since the counselors and ad-visors are not very helpful or informative. A new student here has to be very self sufficient, and not expect any information or resource to come easily on this campus.

    In three sentences

I have attended all of the Alamo colleges, either in person or in an online course. San Antonio college was the least organized, and very unhelpful to a freshman. Although i have learned a lot and had some great teachers, my over all experience with the San Antonio College campus was disappointing.

    Food and Dining

They have a nice cafe, but sometimes they are short staffed, and their hours are short. The food is good, if you need something quick and you don't want to go off campus.

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived in their dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are very helpful, and class sizes are small. The materials learned are useful and insightful.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should check their teachers schedules, fill out their paperwork as soon as possible. Students should also make sure to register for classes as early as possible, and have money ready to make all the payments, so you have less stress during the semester.

    In three sentences

I rate this community college as above average. The only problem I've had with the school is that they are doing a lot of construction and it makes parking difficult sometimes. The other thing is that some of there departments are slow.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to attend this school make sure you do everything early. I would recommend having your financial aid complete, you have your transcript, proof of residency, and make sure your immunizations are up-to-date. If you have those basics you'll be okay.

    In three sentences

Campus safety isn't too bad. I've never had a problem being burglarized, just don't be stupid and make sure to keep your belongings out of sight in your car and don't leave them unattended.

    Greek Life

There isn't really any Greek presence, save for Phi Theta Kappa, but it is an honor society that really looks good on transfer applications and usually involves scholarship opportunities.

    Clubs and Activities

They have a lot of clubs, and usually they have a lot of meetings and fundraiser events. As for activities, they'll have 5K races, talent shows, live bands, guest speakers, plays, concerts. They can be intriguing, but like I said earlier, they might take place during class time.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for almost anyone. If you want to minimize student loans or can't afford a four year college, this place is great for the price. The credits are accepted at almost any Texas Institution so it's only common sense!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unfortunately, there aren't very many traditions, as a lot of people don't have school spirit. However, they do have a planetarium.

    Bang for the buck

SAC's tuition is about 1/10 the price of public universities, which is great for taking basic classes. I would seriously take advantage of this and get as much as you can done before transferring. The advisers are always willing to help they frequently have transfer fairs to see prospective universities. However, you also get what you pay for. If you're in Chemistry or Biology most of the equipment is old and needs updating. The BioSpot, which used to be open during school hours and offered tutoring to biology and chemistry majors is now closed and only available during a biology professor's office hours. The same has happened in the SLAC lab and other workshops, as they used to have multiple tutors and now only have 1-2 at a time.

    What to do for fun

You can chill upstairs in the Loftin Center and watch TV, play ping pong, bring consoles and play on the TV's. They also have a decent workout facility in the student center as well. SAC usually hosts events such as club fundraisers, boxing events, performances, DJ appearances, etc. However, a lot of these events are usually during class times (8 am - 12 pm) so if you want to go, you'll most likely have to skip class, which in my opinion is not worth it.

    Food and Dining

San Antonio College has a cafeteria located in the Loftin Student Center, which has an okay variety but can be pricey. There are two Starbucks located on campus, one in the student center and the other on the second floor of Moody Learning Center. Vending Machines are located in every nook and cranny of every building. Outside of campus, there is a lot of variety. There is a Subway, McDonalds, Quiznos, Burger King, Sonic, Starbucks, WeinerSchnitzel, Jack in the Box, and Whataburger. If you want something more local, they have a nice pizza joint on main street called Main Street Pizzeria, a Greek Diner, and a couple of hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants.

    Dorm Life

As San Antonio College is a community college, most of the students are commuting to and from. Beginning Fall 2013, SAC will open their own version of dorms called the Tobin Lofts. They're basically apartments, having different floor plans that can accommodate up to 4 persons comfortably, complete with WiFi, furnishing options, cafeteria, utilities, pool area, fitness center, etc. They also have a designated parking garage separate from the SAC garage. You don't actually have to be a SAC student to room there, as you can live there as long as you are enrolled at a college institution in San Antonio.

    Academic Rigor

SAC is definitely not as hard as four year universities. While many classes like biology and chemistry are weed-out classes at universities, the professors at SAC care about your success, and are willing to take time out aside to help you. Also unlike universities, classes will get as big as 32 students per class, rather than being in auditoriums with 300 other students.

    Tips for prospective students

In order to be a successful student, you must be able to get to class early! Make sure to arrive to campus at least 15 minutes early. Plan your commute accordingly, as parking and traffic can be horrible in the morning. Always check your ACES account, email and professor's syllabus, these will be critical for upcoming assignments. SAC is a decent sized campus, so make sure you are able to get to class on time, as walking across campus can take a good 10 minutes. Before registering, make sure you don't have any holds and take time to review professors, class times, etc.

    In three sentences

San Antonio College is a 2 year community college on San Pedro Ave. located just north of downtown San Antonio. It might be an old college but it is constantly being updated with new buildings that are very modern and comfortable and provide a lot of resources to be a successful student. While parking may be horrible and some of the buildings might be in need of renovations, SAC offers an affordable education with small classrooms and caring professors that can help everybody succeed and move on to the next level.

SAC has its own police department and up-to-date emergency phones available in case of emergency. Officers do patrol occasionally, but they most times are just right around the corner. Incidents to happen as it is located downtown, however they are reported and police to take action to alert students and protect them.

    Greek Life

    There is no Greek Life.

    Bang for the buck

Classes here will transfer to many places, and are very cheap compared to a four-year university. The teachers here are very passionate about what they classes and students, and with smaller classes, can more easily connect with students to get the material across. With all the major core classes and more offered here for a fraction of the cost, don't be afraid to attend if you want to save a few (several) thousand dollars on the same thing; Credits.

    What to do for fun

San Antonio is a party city and a popular destination for tourists. That being said, there many things to do, mainly downtown. Bars, clubs, tourist attractions, and more are all heavily concentrated downtown. On the outskirts of town, the river and rock climbing can be enjoyed for those know where to look. Sports are available aplenty as well, and getting together to play football is as easy as showing up on the field.

    Food and Dining

There are many restaurants and shops offered nearby by businesses who serve delicious, hometown food. Since they know that students are most times low on money and have many options, they do compete for your business. The cafeteria is also available with decent, affordable food.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms offered by the school. However, much housing development has occurred recently on Broadway to accommodate students at both SAC and UIW. Since the area is also a large city, there are many options when it comes to housing, such as renting or sharing apartments with students.

    Academic Rigor

These classes are not difficult for two reasons. One is because of the smaller classes and teachers who more often than not passionate about what they teach, so any material doesn't come across as dry and basic. Two is because of the type of classes offered. Since the majority of classes are core classes, specialized subjects are not there to intensify the rigor.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for the commute to and from campus if you live more than ten minutes away. Walking or riding a bike is definitely a possibility if you live nearby, as there are more than enough places offered to students. If you can, organize schedules with friends and take the same classes so when the semester is over, you can exchange books and save more compared to just renting. Always make friends with people in your degree's classes, as they will help you succeed and network once employment becomes an issue.

    In three sentences

Located minutes from downtown and Broadway, this homy college has the small town feel of a community college, with the atmosphere of a big city surrounding it. With professionals of all kinds teaching within its buildings and no shortage of stories to be told, students here will be constantly learning not only of the material needed for class, but also real-world knowledge that transcends anything a book can offer. San Antonio College has been serving the citizens of this city for decades, and with money being a secondary priority to the college, students will always come first, and money second.

They have a mall area, a fiesta room, and upstairs from that is a game room. Every week they have stands or people come out and it is a lot of fun. In December they have a snow day. They do karaoke, boxing matches and all sorts of kind of things.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. I loove the wraps! There are two Starbucks on campus, which is awesome! Food is not too bad priced but it isn't cheap either. They have vending machines that accept credit cards.

    Dorm Life

They have just built dorms on campus, I do not stay in them. The rent is 500$ and from the pictures and what I can see from the outside they look really nice. I have also heard that there is a pool.

    Academic Rigor

Any college is going to be a little difficult. I have only been to one college so I cannot really compare it to others, but I can say at times it is harder then high school and in some classes I have had harder teacher's in high school.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say make sure to double check what some of the staff tells you. They are students as well and sometimes you can be lead in the wrong direction or told wrong information. Another thing is don't over whelm yourself with classes your first time into college. If you have to be a full time student take a few blow off classes that are easier for you like a fitness class or maybe drawing it all depends. Sometimes getting into college and taking composition, history, math and a science can be way to much for some people so try and break them up until you get the hang of things. College is not like high school, although it may be more fun and you have more freedom you also have more work sometimes.

    In three sentences

I very much enjoy going to San Antonio College for many reasons. I like how close I am, to where I do not have to drive very far. I enjoy meeting the people, most are friendly. I also like the activities they do for the students, there is always some event where they're giving out free things.
