Categories Comments Great for these types of students This college is great for ALL types of students. Who ever you are, you fit it. Santa Barbara City College wants you, and we know you want it to.
Tips for prospective students 1. Visit the campus. If you need to go to community college, whether it be for financial issues or low grades, it will be your first choice. 2. Remember, college is easy to do, you just need the will, and Santa Barbara City College is here to do that for you. 3. The school has an open admissions policy, so apply when you can and know that it is there for you. You can go, you can get good grades, you can afford it, and you can make your dreams come true.
Bang for the buck Being a community/city college, Santa Barbara City College is much cheaper than a university or state school, but you receive all the same benefits. From EOPS to the MESA center, book grants and scholarships are given out to those in need. SBCC resides at the University of California, Santa Barbara's old campus and so the students are blessed with the real college feel at the community college price.
Am enjoying being here Whether you are from San Francisco, Orange Country or even out-of-state or -country, you will feel welcome here. With State Street directly south and the infamous Isla Vista to your north, you should never run out of something to do. Going out to the movies or out with your friends is always an option, but having the scenery is what always takes everyones breath away. Located right on the beach, tanning, surfing, and reading on the sand is highly encouraged to relax after studying. Palm trees, beautiful weather, and an amazing variety of life will allow you to never see the same thing twice.
Am learning a lot From On-Campus Tutoring in every subject you will be taught to Volunteer Tutors through the Phi Theta Honor Society, you will have no reason to ever get less than a B. The school's Gateway Program will ensure you a gateway to success with tutors also inside your classroom as well as in the Gateway Center from 9-5 everyday of the week. The teachers are immaculate when it comes to their teaching and down-to-earth when it comes to understanding you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students SBCC is great for all types of students! They welcome anyone and everyone! However, I would especially recommend SBCC to those who may need a more one on one learning environment because the class sizes are much smaller, plus they offer special services for the learning disabled. It's also really good for those students looking to save some money on tuition.
Tips for prospective students To all prospective students, I would definitely recommend attending Santa Barbara City College. A lot of people have a negative connotation associated with a community college. They think it's where people go who can't get in to better schools. Well, that is false! I am proof of that. I got in to UCSB and Cal Poly SLO right out of high school. But I chose to attend SBCC first because I knew that I would be saving money, and receiving an equally, if not better, education! Santa Barbara City College has so much to offer its students.
Bang for the buck SBCC definitely gives you more bang for your buck. The units are so cheap compared to what you will pay elsewhere, and the classes are just as good, if not better! I would say they are better, because you're getting smaller class sizes which helps you fully learn the material. Plus, the teachers actually care about their students and want to see you succeed. Honestly, you will do better in classes at community college, and you are paying less. So you are paying less money, to do better in school, than you would if you were to take the same classes at a 4 year university. Honestly, I was going to transfer after two years, but i've decided to stay an extra year, take some of the classes I would have been taking at UCSB, here at SBCC instead, because they will cost me less and I know I will be more successful in them here. Then I can transfer with more classes completed and have to spend less time and money at the UC.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE SBCC! The campus is amazing, its right on the ocean. The view is amazing! They offer really cool classes if you have time to take some electives. The professors are great, so intelligent and helpful.
Am learning a lot The professors at SBCC are excellent! The class sizes are much smaller than those at a 4 year university, so the class settings are more intimate. Your professors are more willing to work with you individually to make sure you really understand what you are learning. At a university, the professors don't have time to do this because they have way too many students. At SBCC the classes will really prepare you for a 4 year college, if you choose to attend one, and you really learn and comprehend the material presented.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Santa Barbara City College is great for any type of student. The over achievers because they have gate classes, students who don't know what they want to major in or career because you can just take all general classes and then decide in a year or two, etc. I would recommend SBCC to anyone.
Tips for prospective students My trip for prospective students is to make sure you don't over work yourself and sign up for like 12-18 units because when it becomes to much it will bring down you GPA if you can't handle it. Along with using the tutor center if you need help with anything or especially if you need help with an essay because by going you could probably bring your grade up by a full letter. Just make sure to take advantage of all the opportunities that SBCC has to offer.
Bang for the buck SBCC is really a good school if you are thinking about saving some money. The units are pretty reasonable for a college but the books are the ones that will eat your money, ranging from $40-$280 per book, depending on your classes. But even with the cost of books its pretty good because you could get into EOPS program which they will cover all of your books if you qualify for financial aid and be enrolled in 12 units. Along with the BOG which will cover the cost of units.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy attending such a beautiful community college. The scenery is just lovely and between classes you can eat one of the many cafes overlooking the beach or bring your surf board along and take in a few rides.
Am learning a lot SBCC's class rooms are about 40 students which makes it very easy to get time with your professors. I am learning a lot here especially in my English 110 class which includes college essay research skills.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All students are great for this school. I have had fresh out of high school kids in my classes all the way to disabled war veterans. This school works for anybody.
Tips for prospective students Get to know the school, the teachers, and the services. The student health care system is free, don't be afraid to use it even if you have a small cold, the nurses are great there. Teachers are awesome, communicate with them. I see a lot of my teachers even outside of class, they are all great people. There are also lots of student clubs. So I guess what I am trying to say is, just get involved.
Bang for the buck Is this even a question? First of all it is a community college, so it is a lot cheaper than a lot of other schools. Plus the services you get is absolutely great. With tuition you get a bus pass, student health care, counseling, on-campus tutoring and a lot more. Not to mention it's right on the beach, which creates a great ocean feeling every day. A lot of people I have talked to, including myself, feel that a lot of the teachers are over qualified making the learning experience great.
Am enjoying being here As for an enjoyable school, you can't get any better than SBCC. For one, the school campus is amazing. It has wonderful lush hills, awesome water fountains, and an amazing view of the ocean and mountain sides. Practically all of the teachers are student friendly and awesome! There is also a wide variety of student vibes, so your more than likely to find a good fit of peers. This school is very enjoyable.
Am learning a lot This is an absolutely great school. From student life to academic life the school is excellent. SBCC has a wide variety of classes all of which teach important life long skills. The teachers here are great and want you to succeed. Most of the teachers have their Ph.D's and are really fun to be around even outside of class. Within the past two years of being here I have learned a great deal.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Its great. There is security almost in every corner. So, its a safe place to be in.
Greek Life The Greek life is great. I'm not part of it right now. but when I was in it was great.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs at SBCC. The ones that I'm attending are EOPS and TAP. These two clubs do trips all around U.S.
Great for these types of students SBCC is for everyone. You will find all kinds of people. There is people from all around the world.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At the end of each semester the music department throws a big concert for the students and it gets epic!. Each club at SBCC has its own traditions.
Bang for the buck Mmm well, money in this college is pretty high. So i recommend you get some savings to your bank, or ask for a loan.
What to do for fun Sometimes when I want to distract myself I go near by the edge of the campus and just admire the view of the ocean.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has a great variety of food, but its always repetitive. They have great snacks and sandwiches.
Dorm Life I have not experienced dorm life. Some of my friends says that its pretty awesome. And its also a little bit expensive.
Academic Rigor Santa Barbara City College is very challenging, but if you get help from tutor it will be easy. Do not give up.
Tips for prospective students Keep on track with homework. Study the necessary hours needed. And the most important have the necessary rest time.
In three sentences Santa Barbara City College is a beautiful place to start off your education. It is located next to a beautiful beach and it has an earthy feeling. Great teachers and great opportunities to succeed .

Categories Comments Campus Safety Santa Barbara City College is a safety place to be. You would feel like if you were home.
Greek Life I have heard that are pretty good, unfortunately I'm not in to it, I wish I would. Hopefully soon.
Clubs and Activities The clubs are really enjoyable for the student. There are not only sport clubs but also others that help you with your homework. to transfer and many others that are very helpful.
Great for these types of students These City College is perfect for every student that want to succeed. Ist really comfortable because there is people fom all the world and you get to meet them all.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the traditions that SBCC has is that every year there is a concert made by the music classes. Its a relly apic time. There are also restaurants next to the college of sea food. In addition there are not many colleges that have a really beautiful view of the beach and mountains.
Bang for the buck Classes used to be cheap, until now that the classes are a little expenses but they are worth. The food is okay with that price and the materials that are required for the classes are also okay. However, SBCC help you to get grand for book and many others.
What to do for fun There are many thing to have fun. Some of them is to play with friends in the fields that the campus has, and also go to the edge of the college and walk near the beach. There are also some rooms to play video games as well.
Food and Dining The food that Santa Barbara City College brings to the students are delicious and also healthy such as vegetable soups, sandwiches and many others. They also have drinks such as water, coffee, juice and soda.
Dorm Life I have not experienced dorms, although some friend say that they are pretty good but a little expense.
Academic Rigor You can always be helped from tutors and teaches to keep on going with your classes and homework.
Tips for prospective students Do not stop reaching your goals. Keep on track. Never give up, and remember that all the effort you put will become in succeed.
In three sentences The Santa Barbara City College has many programs that would help you to be ready to transfer to an university. In addition, its teachers are really good, and the campus is also as well.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck santa barbara has a variety of stores to shop from. from the most expensive to the person who needs to budget. shopping offers a variety of style and labels to please any shopper in santa barbara. the malls are beautiful and pleasant offering other activities of dining, movies, and entertainment. local restaurants also offer amazing food at great prices.
What to do for fun most often the fund in santa barbara begins with walks on the beach, roller blading, or riding a bike along the boardwalk. the beautiful paths by the beach offer amazing views for photography, especially the magnificent sunsets on the pacific coast. my specialty is photographing flowers. there are more flower species in the santa barbara area than any other place in the united states. other than my personal time of fun, it's shared with family and friends at fun places like the santa barbara zoo.
Food and Dining santa barbara is known for it's fine dining and food international food choices. there are more restaurants per thousands of residence than most small cities. i call it a city, although locals consider santa barbara having a small town feel where it's not unlikely that you would see someone you know in one of the restaurants and dining patios on the streets of santa barbara. most often dining is accented with great music from local artists. a romantic city visited every weekend from neighboring cities and tourists. being a seaport like city, the bay is also visited by tourist cruisers. this is a wonderful city to visit for food and dining, especially during the many festivities offered throughout the year.
Dorm Life dorm life is not an activity i'm familiar with. it would seem to manage this type of environment would require a sense of respect for each person one is living with. much like having a roommate or sharing a home. what's most important is that one has their personal space or room to reflect and rest undisturbed. there will need to be respect for each other when one is in this mood. also while in studies, speaking to oneself while around others is disturbing and a distraction. academia is about absorbing and containing information. it takes strong mental focus and a willingness to apprentice to fully understand ones studies. when sharing in dorm life, the key is to support each other in these activities. when personal life becomes a challenge, find ways to take care of personal needs outside of the dorm life. one thing i've noticed about the dorms is that they are close to the school and not far from the beach. the campus offers a variety of activities and opportunity to meet others and explore career choices.
Academic Rigor academia is a rigorous activity and prepares one for the world. one must learn the balance of rest and activity to keep a balanced mind, body, and spirit. eating right is a daily activity and needs just as much attention as the studies. along with this is physical activity for releasing stress from hours of study. in the end the idea is to develop your mind, at the same time be strong to carry out your vision of what you wish to contribute to the world. how you manage your health will reflect on the way you manage your relations with work, home, and relationships. at santa barbara city college, there is a strong emphasis on wellness at the same time growing in ones career path.
Tips for prospective students reading, writing and communication are a key to perform in academia and also learn more about diversity in culture. the college environment opens the door to the world. when choosing your major listen to your intuition and what you are drawn to. you will hear the voices of other students, parents, teachers, and advisors on the best thing to do. in the end you are the one creating your life and deciding what makes you happy.
In three sentences a beautiful campus with courses that meet the needs of the students interest and the community. i consider sbcc a college that gives not only in education, also cultural development.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a large park that is backed up to the east side of the campus. it has a beautiful path walkway, and softball/baseball fields, as well as batting cages and tennis courts!
Bang for the buck the educational experience, along with the location and student atmosphere is unsurpassed.
What to do for fun you are in santa barbara, anything you can imagine for fun can be found nearby. and if all of the opportunities and attractions aren't enough, the campus is about 200 yards from the beach.
Food and Dining the cafeteria is great, with a large variety of packaged and prepared foods/goods. there is also a cafe on campus, that is very inexpensive and has excellent food.
Dorm Life i haven't lived near campus, but i hear the apartments surrounding the city college are excellent for transportation convenience and social life.
Academic Rigor sbcc is known for it's educational level, and recently was named one of the top 10 city colleges in the nation.
Tips for prospective students register early to avoid having to crash classes! get to school early to park (there are 2,000 spots on campus, and around 19,000 annual students).
In three sentences santa barbara is an amazing campus and experience for prospective students in absolutely every way. the faculty and campus is absolutely amazing, the weather and location are ideal, and the atmosphere is wonderful. definitely the nicest place i have been for education.

Food and Dining i usaully do not eat on campus but when i do it is never anything horrible.
Dorm Life no dorms.
Academic Rigor there are some very challenging classes here, yet if you understand that they are only going to help you move forward with your education you will do well.
Tips for prospective students be ready to work hard, but as long as you do there is plenty of room for success here.
In three sentences a great school to get started and be able to transfer. the kinesiology program is very good and will help me move forward in my education. not to mention the school is right on the beach and a beautiful area to attend school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i have never felt unsafe on this campus.
Greek Life i am not aware of any such thing.
Clubs and Activities there are tons of clubs and activities you can get involved in, all you have to do is ask!
Great for these types of students great for any type of student!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a cool spot that overlooks the beach on campus that is nice to study at.
Bang for the buck everyone i know gets financial aid, and even if you did, this school is still affordable and offers a great education.
What to do for fun the beach is right across from the school, so i think that is pretty self-explanatory.
Food and Dining the food is not too great here, but the view that i previously mentioned is pretty good. also, there is a really good restaurant right across the street from the school that is very good (good fish tacos!).
Dorm Life there are no dorms available at this school. however, i believe there is some off-campus housing available.
Academic Rigor i have taken many difficult classes at this college such as medical microbiology, physiology, anatomy, and chemistry because my major is nursing. i am proud to say they were very challenging and i got a great a education because of this.
Tips for prospective students arrive at the school much earlier than when your class starts because parking is horrible at this school. also, the best food on campus is at a deli called the view in the main cafeteria. also, you better get in shape because you have to walk up a lot of stairs up a huge hill everyday to class from the distant parking lots (and that's after you've managed to find a parking space).
In three sentences sbcc is the most beautiful campus and you will not find a community college in a better location. however, good luck renting an apartment in santa barbara because it is expensive and sbcc does not offer on campus housing. i am proud of the education i have received at this school though!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had any problems and there is always campus security walking around nearby.
Greek Life Lots of music, games, and job opportunities.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for almost any interest that you have.
Great for these types of students Great for people who love warm weather, a larger school (16,000 students), smaller classes (in-between 30-100 at largest lecture class), free tutors!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Has the absolute best view of the mountains, city, and beach.
Bang for the buck Going to SBCC for a California resident full time is about 400 dollars a semester that means about 800 dollars a year. You can get an automatic transfer with a certain GPA into the UC system saving thousands of dollars.
What to do for fun Go to the beach in between classes, join groups, take a outdoor PE class (yoga, kayaking, surfing etc.)
Food and Dining There are two cafeterias and one restaurant on campus.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on or close to campus. You can live in Isla Vista dorms which are actually for UCSB but they are 15 minutes away from campus driving. Not walkable.
Academic Rigor This city college is difficult but it will prepare you for a university. Many people do not transfer in two years, it usually takes longer.
Tips for prospective students Classes fill up very fast so sign up the minute that you are allowed to due to budget cuts. If you don't get into a class try to crash it on the first day. Get involved with a campus club to meet new friends.
In three sentences Most beautiful college campus in America right on the beach. Many different clubs, sports, and opportunities. All of my professors have been very helpful and want you to succeed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe.
Greek Life Can't say much here...
Clubs and Activities Philosophy club, in my opinion, is by far the best club at SBCC. There's no strict schedule, and there is always stimulating conversation about a whole assortment of topics ranging from Philosophy to Political Science to Theoretical Physics to Math to Linguistics to Psychology.
Great for these types of students Partiers, academics, everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Go sit on the grass that overlooks the harbor/leadbetter beach. It is a beautiful spot to go and talk with someone.
Bang for the buck Not really sure what this question is asking, but yes, you get the Bang for the buck at SBCC and in Santa Barbara in general. While rent is expensive, you're getting what you pay for in terms of awesome weather, awesome people, (good looking people), and various possible activities to choose from.
What to do for fun Go surfing. Go hiking. Go hangout with cool people. Go slacklining. Go lie on the beach. Go lie in the grass. Go bowling. Make up your own fun. If you're willing to be goofy and do random stuff, your experience will be much better, in my opinion. Go play Mario Kart. Definitely go hiking though, there are a bunch of awesome local hiking places that you can find by simply searching online. There are some awesome views. Go to 7 falls, bring some beer. Fun stuff.
Food and Dining Great local spots if you know where to look. Don't know where to look? Make friends with a local and they'll tell you. Especially the local Mexican food. Go to Milpas street and sit down at any given local Mexican eatery. You will not be disappointed.
Dorm Life I'm going neutral here because it depends on where you live. Life in Isla Vista is awesome and I would recommend living there. It immerses you in the culture, is right on the beach, is great for meeting new people (as long as you are not shy), and is a great place to party. IV is pretty much famous for its crazy parties, especially during Halloween. Super fun though, go surfing!
Academic Rigor I love learning, so my opinion here may be a bit biased, but overall haven't found any particular class extremely challenging. Just do the work! For me, I love studying more in-depth than just what the class requires, but overall, not too hard if you are able to balance your life well.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! There are several interesting clubs on campus, namely Philosophy Club, and the teachers are very interested in helping you if you reach out. Take Joe White's Intro to Philosophy class, Joe Martorana's Law and Society, or Eskondari's Political Thinking. Also, don't care what anyone else thinks of you! Be yourself!
In three sentences SBCC is a fantastic community college with a beautiful campus. As with many experiences in life, what you put into SBCC will determine what you get out. Overall, great professors and opportunities.

Clubs and Activities There are a ton of great clubs that are very involved in the community.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus garden is really cool :)
Bang for the buck I get a lot of aid so it was worth it for me, but finding a place to rent is really hard and expensive.
What to do for fun Surfing, lay out at the beach across form campus, go down town, or take a taxi to IV.
Food and Dining Excellent the culinary kids run the dining!
Dorm Life No dorms
Tips for prospective students I love this school, but if you come here try not to let your grades slip from partying.
In three sentences It has a beautiful campus. The teachers and staff re all amazing, never had a teacher that didn't care about their students. The party scene is a bit crazy.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities TAP program has helped me a lot since I arrived at college. Without it I don't think i would be attending college because of the guidance i would of lacked from the Transfer Achieve Program. Thanks to it i have always maintained a route and goal plan for the time being spent at SBCC, so I have always been thinking about my future and life after city college, transferring to prestige Universities.
What to do for fun Bike riding along the beach coast. I play soccer and currently play for a team in a league so I play a lot of soccer to release stress and have fun with my friends. I also love swimming so I go swimming with my two younger brothers to the local YMCA or the Port Hueneme beach water.
Food and Dining My parents usually cook for me so i never have to worry about eating or spending money outside of my house. Although i do sometimes eat out with my friends but i provide my own money.
Dorm Life I lived about an hour away in a different city, Oxnard, and so i lived and currently am living with my parents and they have been sustaining me in any way that i have needed so far. Scholarships, grants, parents, labor work and savings have helped me get through my 3 years of college life.
Academic Rigor All classes were challenging, none were easy to attain an A. I had to put a lot of extra hours outside of class but i was okay with it because of the determination i had to do vigorously good in all of my classes. I admit there were times where i struggled and could not suffice the level of work effort some classes offered but i still tried and was able to pull through and be at a well academic standing level with my college.
Tips for prospective students Be well organized, have a binder and notebooks for every class. Join clubs, get out there and meet people it will make the experience even better. Try different classes that you would not normally take to help you receive that different perspective on life.
In three sentences Academically the level of college work is challenging yet satisfying from the material learned and attained. Great staff, all professors want you to succeed and will always help you in any way possible. Wonderful atmosphere on campus that really makes you open your college mind to everything and soak in the Santa Barbara City College experience, especially during the summer right now.

Food and Dining There is the cafeteria and other places to get food on campus. But being in a tourist area of the Santa Barbara community, the campus is located near downtown restaurants and restaurants along the beach.
Academic Rigor Depending upon the classes, the rigor varies class to class. But overall, my class experiences with professor created environment and course work never fell below an adequate level. I was able to take something newly learned from every class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety SBCC is a pretty safe place, and there have been no major criminal incidents at SBCC.
Greek Life I am not aware of any fraternities or sororities that operate at SBCC.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs at SBCC, which are good for finding people who share the same interests. These clubs are no where near as active as the clubs at Universities, so they likely wont make a significant part of your social life.
Great for these types of students This school is great for people who like to party. Its closeness the beach as well as its amazing weather, makes it good for surfers and recreational bicyclists.
Bang for the buck In terms of tuition, SBCC is a bargain. It offers a University quality of education with a Community college price, making it a good place to complete general education and lower division requirements.
What to do for fun The beach is near the campus, and since Santa Barbara has almost year round good weather, is always a good place to visit. Santa Barbara is a beautiful city, and it is fun touring the city and visiting the shops. There are also interesting places to visit, such as the Santa Barbara Courthouse, which is an architectural marvel in its own right.
Food and Dining SBCC has a cafeteria that offers a wide range of cooked foods, as well as sandwiches and fast food. It also has a fast food restaurant on the other side of campus, while not having as many options as the cafeteria, offers a much more serene environment.
Dorm Life SBCC does not offer dorms, as far as I am aware
Academic Rigor Santa Barbara has some really good professors. Many of them are knowledgeable and funny, and make the educational experience here entertaining and worthwhile.
Tips for prospective students Don't get distracted, even though it is easy to do so, since it is easy to get carried away by the party scene, as well as by the beaches of Santa Barbara.
In three sentences SBCC is a school that has some really good professors. It also has awesome weather, and is close the the beach. It also is a has a really strong party scene.

Dorm Life I will not be living on campus I am going to get my own place with friends, but if that was the only option available to me I would live there no problem. Seems perfectly fine.
Academic Rigor Seems like it won't be that tough, but will get you working nonetheless.
Tips for prospective students Have fun and take it easy.
In three sentences I really just can't wait! This school is for kids who yearn to go to a University or University style school, but either can't do it based on academics or money. This is one of the top 10 city colleges in the nation and it lives up to that being atop the ocean and having that university style feel!! Literally am anxious to go to college now.

Food and Dining I love the cafeteria at this school. The culinary program will cook at the cafe and the food is always delicious and fresh. Not to mention amazing tri tip sandwichEs and breakfast burritos
Dorm Life There are no dorms for Sbcc but if you're looking to live in the college town of Sbcc and Ucsb I would suggest isla vista! It's the best choice in my opinion, not only do you live by hundreds of fellow students but there is always something to do! Never boring.
Academic Rigor I attended a different community college last year and it reminded me of high school. This community college is challenging and feels like I am getting the college education I need to prepare me for the four year.
Tips for prospective students I would highly recommend regular meetings with a counseler and making sure you are noticed in class by the teachers.
In three sentences Sbcc has the best professors I could ask for, they challenge you and your knowledge to the best of their ability. The student are so diverse and friendly it's easy to make friends and meet people from all over the world. The SBCC campus always has a positive environment.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities Schools love to see students involved. There are many sports and clubs to get involved. I believe here at S.B.C.C there is a club for everyone.
What to do for fun For fun, go downtown, the beach, or to Ventura. There are quiet a few things to do around here.
Food and Dining There are many great restaurants here in Santa Barbara.
Dorm Life For dorm life I am not sure, but many people really enjoy it. I live at home so have not had that experience yet.
Tips for prospective students For future students I recommend to sign up early and not wait till the last minute because if they do wait till the end they might get stuck with classes that they may not enjoy. I also think they should talk to counselors to discuss options for a major. Most importantly attend class everyday and try to stay on track.
In three sentences I give S.B.C.C. a 9/10, 10 being the highest. They offer so many classes and programs that help students become more aware of opportunities. This school is a great way for any student to start school and continue their education at any age.

What to do for fun There's not much you can do that isn't fun. Whether it is walking on state street or walking in Isla Vista, you'll have a great time.
Food and Dining Cafeteria isn't bad at SBCC. Expensive though. My recommendation since you'll be living in an apartment is to buy groceries. Saves a lot of money
Dorm Life Both living in Isla Vista or Downtown have its perks. Isla Vista is a great time and gives that 4 year feel to your college life. Downtown is very convenient and is one of the best locations in the country to live in.
Academic Rigor Academics are somewhat tough, but if you take the right classes, use your resources, and don't get overwhelmed by the party scene, there is no reason not to do well.
Tips for prospective students Study hard, have fun, and stay on top of your academics. Registration can be a pain, and you don't want that being the cause of putting off graduating or transferring.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities We are a huge sport school. We take pride in our athletes, they are respected on and off campus.
What to do for fun The campus is on the beach so its amazing being able to study at the beach or go swimming with my spare time. There is also lots of shopping available on State Street. The best is making friends and spending time together at each others houses.
Food and Dining The culinary department has a restaurant at discount prices. We also have two separate cafeterias on campus. Both are both always clean and for the most part run by students. The food can be expensive at times but it is always very tasty and I have never been disappointed.
Dorm Life There are not dorms on campus. We are a community college so they arent avalible.
Academic Rigor I have only completed my first semester, but I am so in love with this school. The professors are always top notch and are willing to help if needed. They want their students to be the best they can. You can tell they like working for SBCC and are happy to share their knowledge.

What to do for fun Kayaking at the harbor is only $7 for an hour with your student ID! Bike rides downtown are my favorite. There's always a show to go to and something fun to do in Santa Barbara! If anything, just grab your towel and head to the beach!
Academic Rigor Teachers are very helpful and want you to succeed. They may seem really strict in class, but attend their office hours and you'll see a different side to them. Connect with your teachers outside of the classroom so that they'll remember you and know that you care.
Tips for prospective students Go to class everyday and sit in the front row. Don't sign up for a class if you're not going to do the work. Communicate with your professors and get to know them and have them get to know you! Make friends in the class to help you do better. Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Halloween is a week long party in Santa Barbara. Flotopia is also a big party day centered around the beach and day drinking. Great tip, its easy to avoid the partying by not living in Isla Vista. If you live in Isla Vista you will most likely have to party often. May be a good or bad thing.
Bang for the buck Best junior college. The quality of education, experience and professors is amazing.
What to do for fun Santa Barbara is party galore. There is something always going on in Isla Vista and once your 21 the downtown club/bar scene is also fun. In addition, there's plenty of outdoor things to do like hiking and the beach.
Food and Dining SBCC has its own culinary program who has a restaurant/cafe on campus that is yummy and affordable.
Dorm Life there are not any dorms
Academic Rigor For general education there are classes that you can take with minimal effort but as you get more specific classes within your major its no joke. Overall the classes are not impossible if your willing to put the work in. Rate my professor.com is a lifesaver and generally is right about what to expect.
Tips for prospective students Make use of all the resources on campus such as tutors, clubs, counselors, transfer programs and counselors. Parking is always hard to find so consider riding a bike. Enjoy Santa Barbara for all it has to offer.

Bang for the buck Very cheap tuition and books!!
What to do for fun You are minutes away from the beach and the harbor. There is all the shopping and restaurants you could want on State St. There is also a ton of hiking trails with awesome views and even small waterfalls.
Food and Dining Plenty of restaurants near by.
Dorm Life They're aren't any dorms for this school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Swedish is spoken throughout campus the Swedes teach everyone else their curse words.
Bang for the buck Fantastically economical, but only if you're a California resident. I'm guessing there's not a huge difference between SBCC's out-of-state tuition and tuition for a four-year university. It is a wonderful experience for international students, but it's ridiculously expensive.
What to do for fun THEATRE! State Street Santa Barbara Zoo Close to Los Angeles
Food and Dining Not bad. The JSB Cafe is amazing. The Cafeteria and west campus cafe (or the Greasy Spoon, as we affectionately call it) are overpriced and not fantastic, but the food is fairly good, considering it's a college food.
Dorm Life Non-existent. You tend to spend a lot of time hanging out at each other's apartments. Buena Vista apartments across the street from campus are OVERPRICED.
Academic Rigor Most classes are very easy, but once in awhile, they will be a class or two that's challenging.
Tips for prospective students Start your plan to transfer early. You don't need an IGETC or degree to transfer. Take what the counselors say with a grain of salt. It's better to directly call the school you're interested instead. Live close to campus if you're a serious student. Live in IV if you like to party. Live in Goleta if you're broke. Having a car will make your life a lot easier, especially if you live far from campus. Learn Swedish :)
In three sentences SBCC is a great place to start your career. In the theatre department, the classes are geared towards beginners and the faculty usually won't cast students in productions, so if you are driven, it will push you to go out and make your own career. Although at first it may seem frustrating, SBCC will teach you so much through it doesn't teach you.
