Great for these types of students

Unsure of what you want to do, Looking for great certificate programs, looking for UC quality education at JC prices.

    Tips for prospective students

Go visit a counselor before registeriung, you must get approval to carry more than 9 units at a time, plus its a good idea to set up an academic plan. It really helps me to line up my classes.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus on its own makes it worth the 44 mile drive each direction for me. Everything is green and blooming beautifully during the spring semester and in the fall the trees change to tones of red, gold and orange that are a testemate to the beauty of the season.

    Am learning a lot

I have taken 26.5 units of General Education so far and all of my classes have been very well developed and have made learning the topics a breeze.

Great for these types of students

Great for single moms, young moms, returning to school after time off, working students, immigrant students, AB540 (undocumented) students, first time college students, undeclared/undecided students

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering attending SRJC i highly suggest enrolling in Counseling 270 during the summer so that your registration priority goes up in the fall. Due to the enormous over flow of students there are more trying to attend than there is space available so it is very important to do anything that would move you up on the priority list for registration. Taking that 4day summer class moves you up one position. Then during your first semester see a counselor regularly and they will know you are a serious student who needs top priority when picking classes. Good luck!

    Bang for the buck

This community college is very affordable. I only took two classes this semester however i paid NOTHING out of pocket. If you are in enough financial need, there is no way you wont be able to attend college. Financial aid combined with my EFC and the BOG waiver, i had even enough money for a refund! which is just what i needed to purchase my books :)

    Am enjoying being here

This is/was my first semester returning to college after having my first child. I am 21 and have many things going on in my life right now. The teachers here are really accommodating and have helped me successfully complete this semester. Many students that I've spoken to say that they have been helped out by their teachers when life's problems seem to jump out of no where. I do however need to make more friends or get to know a few of my class mates. I plan on doing this by joining groups and organizations. That should help my experience along.

    Am learning a lot

As a college freshman I anticipated the work load to be different than that of high school. It was. But it also was doable. I liked the fact that the class I was in wasnt too big. I felt that whenever i raised my hand i would be heard. I learned a lot during this semester even without knowing i did. The teaching method was great. We not only used group discussion so that all of our voices could be heard, but we also watched a lot of films so that the teacher wasn't lecturing AT US all the time. It was a great combination and teaching method which allowed me to learn in a comfortable environment

    Tips for prospective students

There are lot of opportunities for students to explore their strength and knowledge. SRJC provides the computer labs around the campus so students would access to the Internet and do homework at any place. The counseling, transferring and career office are provide students information about setting academic plans, major, career plan and transfer. For those who love sciences may consider to enroll in MESA.

    In three sentences

SRJC is a great community college where you can find an easy way to explore your major and learn more about the transfer process. At SRJC, you will be taught by incredible instructors. You will love the campus as the time you been through SRJC.

Great for these types of students

It's great for anyone. It's one of the top JCs in the country, so it's very academic. There are alot of scholarships, so people broke like me can go to school. There are alot of work programs and plenty of internships available and study abroad. Even if you're a laid back person, this place is for you. They try to make their school appealing to all kinds of people. :)

    Tips for prospective students

Remember, there are a few campuses. PC means Petaluma campus! And if you're a culinary student, you may have a class in the downtown area rather than on campus. The JC has been known to have classes in Forestville, multiple Santa Rosa regions, and Petaluma. They even have satelite classes that go to other towns to reach out to the community. It's important to make sure where your class really is before it starts! Don't be afraid to call, the staff is friendly!

    Bang for the buck

Classes aren't horribly expensive, but depending on what your major is it adds up quick. The upside though is this school is really good and reasonable about buying books back for almost or at the price you bought them.

    Did enjoy being here

The teachers and students are very friendly and helpful. I have many experiences at the school, but the biggest one was when I was sexually assaulted on my way to the one of the campuses on the bus. I broke down in a bathroom and a staff member calmed me down and helped me out alot! I was a sophomore in high school, so she waited with me until my mom got to the campus and we talked about the experience and counseled me. I dealt with alot of staff members that day and they were all supportive and acted quickly and knew what to do better than I did. Since then, he has not been identified, but my case was taken more seriously when another girl came forward with the same story. The Santa Rosa JC was flexible and supportive and made sure that students in the future were safer and offered me help in the future. Thanks staff members!

Great for these types of students

Students who want to save money but have lots of options for classes. Student who want to complete all their lower division core classes as well as general ed. Students who want to get an Associates Degree or get into an Occupational Program.

    Tips for prospective students

Pass your classes the first time around, and make sure you don't take the wrong class. It can be really easy to stay for more than two years, but if you plan to transfer keep on top of your classes! If you need help, most professors are available in their office for one-on-one assistance. Talk to the colleges you plan to transfer to so you know you are taking the correct classes to transfer, and meet with a JC counselor to get approval for classes and an academic plan (MAP).

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is low, and the college is ranked in the top 5 in the country! The opportunities available for the cost is awesome.

    Am enjoying being here

There is a really good vibe around campus (Santa Rosa campus) and there are plenty of people to meet as well as tons of clubs and sports.

    Am learning a lot

The amount of classes available can be overwhelming, make sure you talk to a counselor about where you want to transfer (UC or CSU) because the general educational requirements are different for each. Classes on almost everything are offered, make sure to play around and take things that interest you, especially if you don't know your major! Professors are usually available for extra help too.

Great for these types of students

Nursing students or students planing to enroll in a dental program!

    Tips for prospective students

ALWAYS use a site that reviews professors before enrolling in their courses. This will help you tremendously. Buy textbooks from online stores opposed to the bookstore to save money.

    Bang for the buck

The college is really inexpensive and has many options for financial aid. However there has also been a lot of budget cuts meaning the classes offered has decreased.

    Am enjoying being here

Both the campus in Santa Rosa and the campus in Petaluma are gorgeous. The Santa Rosa campus has more of a historic feel with the brick buildings. They also have art displayed throughout the campus and a numerous amount of outside spaces to study and enjoy the sunshine. The Petaluma campus has more of a modern feel, and offers students opportunities like individual computers in many of the classrooms.

    Am learning a lot

I have really enjoyed my classes at SRJC. Many of them I was not fond of taking (like History) but I learned so much in the class and literally grew to love History. Every class is outlined by specific guidelines and activities that must be completed to pass so you always know what is expected of you. However make sure you do research on the professor before you take courses (like using Ratemyprofessor.com) so that you are aware of their teaching style and know what to expect.

Great for these types of students

Definitely independent students, and people actually looking for an education. They are really good at providing tools for you to succeed and transfer to a University, but only if you are motivated and do the work in your classes. It's also very diverse, so if you like that then you'll love it here!

    Tips for prospective students

I definitely recommend talking to a counselor and figuring out your classes right away. They will help you come up with a two-year plan that matches your goals. Also, make sure to stay on top of getting priority for registration by meeting with a counselor, because the classes fill up quickly!

    Bang for the buck

The school is really good considering how inexpensive it is. I usually pay about 350 for all my classes (I usually take 4-5), and around 300 for my books. I definitely recommend renting or buying used books because it will save you money. Most of the books are also sold on websites like amazon for cheap.

    Am enjoying being here

I don't enjoy it very much because I grew up here and it feels like high school all over again. If I wasn't from Sonoma County to begin with, I think I would enjoy it much more because the campus is actually awesome for a junior college, and the people are really nice and laid-back. One thing that I don't really like is that there's two campuses, which can be inconvenient when you have classes on both campuses in the same day.

    Am learning a lot

I feel like I'm learning a lot in my classes, most of the teachers I have had have a lot of experience in their field so they really know what they're talking about. The class sizes also aren't ridiculously big so I'm able to get help from my teachers a lot.

transfer students, lower-income or middle class students, or returning students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are two campuses and you also have the option to take evening, weekend or online classes.

    Bang for the buck

srjc is an excellent choice for saving money! they have many options for financial aid and scholarship and the cost per unit is very reasonable.

    What to do for fun

the srjc offers many workshops, festivals and on-campus events.

    Food and Dining

i haven't tried many whole meals at the jc. i usually just go for a snack. however, they have a large variety.

    Dorm Life

srjc is a community college and there is no option to live on campus. students commute from home.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are not very difficult, depending on the instructor. there is a lot of reading but if you do the assigned coursework, it is not hard to pass the classes.

    Tips for prospective students

take good notes in class and stick to the course schedule (with reading and assignments). go to class!!!

    In three sentences

i found that i had a very smooth transition between high school and my first year at srjc. the classes were not very difficult, depending on the instructor. the campuses are beautiful; there are many courses of many different studies and the classes are convenient. i also found that many instructors really love what they do and put forth the effort to help their students succeed.

    Campus Safety

too much traffic and parking is a waiting game with students circling like sharks. live close or ride a bike! lots of bike lanes around santa rosa.

    Clubs and Activities

unfamiliar, appears to offer plenty of opportunity to participate

Great for these types of students

all types! but especially... active outdoor enthusiasts wine aficionados agriculture and viticulture students animal lovers, especially horses, dogs and farm animals english and humanities

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

srjc is in the heart of sonoma wine country and close to the north coast ocean and redwoods. tahoe is within reasonable distance.

    Bang for the buck

great bang for the buck! especially if you're a ca resident and on fa. i'm so glad i left private college to knock out ge here. the campus makes me feel like i'm at a university. love it!

    What to do for fun

the planetarium is top notch. plenty of on-campus plays, clubs, etc. i understand the athletic facility is great too with a good pool but haven't checked it out personally.

    Food and Dining

the dining room is modern, well lit, and huge. the cafeteria food offers a decent selection and most of the food is ok. plenty of hookups for computers and a lively student atmosphere.

    Academic Rigor

srjc is considered one of the top junior colleges in the country and much of the academics reflect that. attendance, reading, writing, and on-time assignments are mandatory if you expect good grades. not for slouchers. there are some adjunct teachers that aren't that good and are impossible to get good grades from, favorites, etc. check above site for advice.

    Tips for prospective students

purchase your books online rather than the campus bookstore. i used amazon text books and directtextbook mostly. be sure to check out future instructors on www.ratemyprofessors.com. apply for fa early and keep checking back.

    In three sentences

i highly recommend this junior college. it is acknowledged as one of the best in the country and modern, if not advanced, curriculum has a good selection. state of the art facilities: technology, library, sciences, etc. the campus is gorgeous and looks like a 100 year old university.

    Bang for the buck

it is a junior college, so the price is still very good being compared to a 4 year institute, but over the past 4 years tuition has about doubled and classes are harder to get into and it always seems like the class you need is offered in a different semester.

    What to do for fun

if i am not at school i am at work, but living in the area all my life, there is a lot of hiking, the beach is an hour away, go carts, paint ball, bowling, mini gold, arcade, you name it we probably got it.

    Food and Dining

santa rosa junior college is located in the center of santa rosa which is in sonoma county which is known for its cuisine. on campus, the culinary department prepares food for service which is of a very nice quality. off campus, there are literally about 10 restaurants in walking distance where if you are quick, you can get a bite between classes.

    Dorm Life

there is no dorm life at the jc because we have no dorms. people still either live at home, or have apartments close by.

    Academic Rigor

this is the only college i have attended so far, so i cannot attest to how its academic rigor compares, but our math department is constantly being credited for being more difficult then math classes at berkeley and cal poly. the chemistry and physics department range from rigorous teacher to more relaxed teachers.

    Tips for prospective students

    - don't rely on a counselor to tell you the right information and be prepared to find and double check answers with classes on your own. - do to state wide budget cuts it will not be uncommon to not get the class you need, so email the teacher early and talk with them so they get to know you, so you are more likely to get added. - when signing up for classes, be sure to look at what campus you are on, there are several different ones, and they are all 30-45 minutes (sometimes an hour) away from each other depending on traffic.

    In three sentences

good learning atmosphere with fairly large campus. classes are however crowded, and it is hard to get into the most basic of classes. overall, it is a good college all things considering and compared to other colleges in this area.

    What to do for fun

first and foremost making friends with the other students opens up a huge variety of things to do. when you register for classes you are given the option of buying a pass to all the seminars and plays for a lower price. often during the school day there are raffles, bbq's, live music and other activities going on on the main square to participate in.

    Food and Dining

the santa rosa campus has an abundance of fast food joints, coffee shops and restaurants right next to the campus. both campuses offer a great cafeteria with everything you could want and smaller coffee and snack kiosks around the campus.

    Dorm Life

there are no actual dorms at the j.c., but there are affordable apartment almost on campus in santa rosa.

    Academic Rigor

it is actually one of the most rigorous junior colleges in the area, but they give students ample resources to help. they offer free tutorial services, office hours with your professors, orientation on how to perform well and disability resources.

    Tips for prospective students

start out with your general education and take classes in all the fields so you can figure out what you like. also, if you are nervous about starting college then try the petaluma campus first, it is smaller and more approachable.

    In three sentences

i give santa rosa junior college top ratings. there are two campuses, the main santa rosa campus and the smaller petaluma campus. it is a two year school that is a perfect place for students who; want an associates degree, want a certificate or who don't yet know what their major is.

    Campus Safety

very safe, lots of parking locations so there is one close or semi close to classes and there is campus police.

Great for these types of students

if you are unsure of what you want to do in college going to a community college is the best thing! it doesn't cost you much out of pocket as a csu, uc or private school and you get the same if not better education! also if you cannot afford a csu, uc or private school at their outrageous prices for 4 years santa rosa junior college and other community colleges are great to get all of your general education out of the way and a few other classes at a more reasonable cost.

    Bang for the buck

buy a semester long parking pass, do not both with paying for each time especially if you are a full-time student. you can use the pass at both campuses. also, try to rent as many of your books as you can to help reduce your cost. sites i've used are: www.ecampus.com, www.bookrenter.com, www.campsbookrental.com and www.cheggs.com

    What to do for fun

if you have plenty of time between courses you can go to the local shopping mall (santa rosa plaza) there is plenty of shopping and food courts there. there is a nearby movie theater, plenty of small shops and food around.

    Food and Dining

ttandard campus cafeteria foods and food cards but there are plenty of places nearby that you can get food.

    Dorm Life

this is a community college so there are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

best bang for your buck, teachers prepare you for beyond a csu or uc system (much tougher!).

    Tips for prospective students

make sure to see a counselor to get your academic plan done so you can get a better priority registration, register as soon as your time slot opens up (have what courses and optional courses ready when you register online), arrive at school early as parking fills up quickly at both campuses. try to have a break between classes even if it's just 30 minutes, if classes are back to back you are too rushed to get from 1 class to another. utilize ratemyprofessor.com when checking out the instructors for the courses you are thinking of taking including your back up courses, this website is very useful! also, try and rent as many books as you can to help reduce cost. i've used the following: www.bookrenter.com, www.ecampus.com, www.campusbookrentals.com and www.cheggs.com and renting is the best way to go!

    In three sentences

the school is great, a good majority of the instructors are great and they prepare you for schools beyond a csu or uc! both campuses (santa rosa & petaluma) are great & petaluma's campus is get more and more courses, and they have a good majority of online courses as well. you get hands on training in a lot of courses starting the first day, i got it on my first day where i wouldn't have gotten it at a csu, uc or private institution until i started my 3rd year.

    Greek Life

    None really.

    Clubs and Activities

    Minimal clubs, sadly.

Great for these types of students

Great for people looking to learn and thrive in an active environment. Almost everyone is very involved in their work and studies, and it's not uncommon to find people studying throughout campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I am not aware of any at this point in time.

    Bang for the buck

To put it simply: money well spent. Great education for a good cost.

    What to do for fun

Campus life is mostly academically oriented, though there are a few things around campus to do. Most of the food and shops around SRJC are interesting and the mall is just down the street which is a fun retreat sometimes.

    Food and Dining

The campus dining hall is a great place to grab a bite and study. There are always people in there, and the food is actually quite tasty. There is a wide variety of foods available to students, and even smaller cafes for those looking for coffee or a smaller sit down setting.

    Dorm Life

There is minimal dorm life around campus as most people live at home (such as myself).

    Academic Rigor

Overall, SRJC has provided me with many opportunities to work with great people and equipment at a low cost. It has been an excellent set up for transferring to a four-year university, and I highly recommend it to those who are on the fence about attending. You won't regret it!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to consult professor's about the necessity of class materials; often times they may not require a book or other items initially on the syllabus, and asking questions can save you money. Also, be sure to attend class as most teachers do take attendance and it can quickly hurt your grade in a class if you do not show up to take the proper notes.

    In three sentences

SRJC is an excellent place to conquer general education classes efficiently while obtaining immeasurable amounts of knowledge. The faculty is highly praised, and the campus itself has a nice East Coast Ivy League feel to it. SRJC is an excellent alternative for those who cannot afford to leave home right after high school or are just looking to jump back into the swing of things after a break from school.

Great for these types of students

Students wishing to transfer on to a four year university but are trying to figure out what they want to study. Also good for saving money on lower division courses prior to transfer.

    Bang for the buck

I have completed over 100 units and barely paid a dime between financial aid and scholarship opportunities. For the quality of the school, courses and instructors the cost cannot be beat - even if paid out of pocket.

    What to do for fun

There are numerous sports teams and clubs and organizations. Many of my biology courses go on several field trips throughout the year that are fun and educational.

    Food and Dining

I have not had much of the food on campus but there are several kiosks and a brand new cafeteria/student center that is a beautiful building.

    Academic Rigor

I've heard from many of my friends who have attended four year universities and classes as SRJC that SRJC is more difficult. The instructors expect a lot out of you but are very supportive along the way.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard. I came out of high school thinking I could

    In three sentences

Almost every instructor I have had in my four years while attending have been passionate and genuinely interested in the success of their students at both an academic and personal level. What to do for fun

The school hosts a number of different activities throughout the year. Each wednesday night the lecture hall hosts a movie viewing and discussion piece. The film is introduced and then screened and afterward the audience participates in a discussion about the film and their appreciation of the things included in it. The Jc also host a quad music each week where they DJ music or if someone is inclined to show off their musical talents can play for the school during the day for a hour or so. Each beginning of the semester the schools holds a diversity and college building event where local businesses, charities, and foundations can come and talk to students and recruit those interested in the opportunities they have to offer.

    Food and Dining

They have a fully functioning kitchen and cafe with several breakfast and lunch options on their menu. The food is definitely of quality and in expensive when compared to buying food outside of the campus. It is cooked in front of the students so if there are any student concerns over the preparation of the food their worries can easily be laid to rest. Orders are taken personally by the chef himself and he is tremendously flexible on substitutions and special orders according to each persons dietary needs. Overall the cafe provides great service. The dining arrangements consist of a huge dining lounge with several tables each space far enough from each other to dine in privacy and the cafe portion of the dining rooms gives a much closer and lively environment.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at the JC.

    Academic Rigor

The academic standards at the JC are relatively realistic but with an expectation that each student is going to excel with the necessary tools being provide them. Each class taken at the JC feels as if it could be easily found at any UC or CSU. They work you hard but your efforts are always rewarded in the knowledge you gain and are able to retain. None of the instructors are unreasonable and give as much effort back as they expect from their students. The course work depending on the class and the instructor is normally never overbearing or exhaustive. The instructors give enough time and space each of their assignments appropriately in order to not over lap or overwork their students

    Tips for prospective students

Take as many undergraduate and general education classes as possible while enrolled. Take advantage of all of the opportunities and resources they make available to you through the writing labs and tutorial sessions. Never underestimate the advantages of seeing a councilor as they are well equipped to assist with all your college needs.

    In three sentences

Santa Rosa Junior College has the some of the most personable and well qualified teachers in the nation. It's curriculum is top notch in its diversity and availability and keeps getting an education well worth the time and money spent on each class. It is an affordable alternative to going straight from high school to an UC or CSU and will allow for more of a flexible schedule for you in order to reach your goals.

Make new friends! There aren't many social activities to do on campus... a movie or two, sponsored by the film program, a play from theater... mostly you have to make your own fun. The clubs are worth it if you find one pertaining to your interests!

    Food and Dining

The food in both cafeterias is worth the money. It's not too expensive, and there are also cafes with cheaper, food-to-go options. Every day the cafeterias are full with students eating and socializing. Try the hamburgers, they're actually really good!

    Academic Rigor

There is a reason this is the best JC in the country. The teachers aren't college drop-outs; they know their stuff and they want you to succeed. Sometimes you find a hard class or two, but those are just there to challenge and test you.

Live music on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on the warm Spring and Summer Days. Shone Farm is an agriculture site that offers Equestrian, vidiculture, agriculture, and livestock management classes which is located in Forestville.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is as good a price as its going to get for the outstanding teachers and courses offered.

    What to do for fun

I considered the equestrian classes to be a fun class as well as taking the forestry classes that went of field trips to Tahoe to snow shoe and find native California trees, and other State Parks to identify trees and shrubs.

    Food and Dining

Great new cafeteria with top notch food made infront of you.

    Dorm Life

I have not lived in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

    Excellent.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the tutoring offered at the campuses. Enroll in the mandatory Library 10 class within your first 2 semesters because it will teach you viable information about the library and its tools that can help organize your time. Take classes at shone farm to get the feel of the agriculture, take advantage of the financial aid if needed, do not wait until the last minute.

This school has opened my eyes to the endless possiblilities that are out there in the world for me to enjoy. All of my Administrative Justice teachers were ex-cops and judges so they had experience in the field and were able to give me accurate advice and likely senarios that would happen while on the job. The students are also a great group to get involved with, in my forestry classes they made me feel more welcomed than i initially expected and were always their to help in study groups or activities.

    There are no dorms.

    Tips for prospective students

See a concealer they are all very helpful and can get you on track to reach your goals as quick as possible. In your first semester do not over load your self with more unit than you can handle. Even if you think a class is going to be a breeze there is a lot of work to be done in each class. If you take online classes most instructors open assignments early, get a head as quick as possible because if you fall behind before you know it you will be over whelmed with homework with not enough hours in the day to get it all done.

    In three sentences

All the instructors I have had are very helpful and can make difficult subjects easier to learn. The campus is very large and open with lots of well kept landscaping, giving it a nice feel.

    Campus Safety

We recently improved security and now have police walking around inside of the libraries and on campus. If you have been threatened, you can always contact the campus police and they can escort you to places you are uncomfortable with. We also have an alert system on our cell phones in case a shooter comes or we have a natural disaster.

Great for these types of students

It is great for the students who wish to transfer, and for those who are unsure about their major. Because this is one of the top JC's in the nation, you are almost guaranteed a way into another college. Also, the JC provides options and a wide variety of classes so that those who are unsure are able to try anything and get the support needed to find what they would like to do.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We had a flash mob in front of the library this year. I'm not sure if it is tradition, but I hope that it is! There are plenty of trees and grass everywhere, and it is not uncommon to see people sitting under the trees doing homework or studying. It creates a relaxed and peaceful environment.

    Bang for the buck

I am definitely getting more than my money's worth. The educational level provided, the services I get and the benefits are definitely worth the tuition. As long as you pay attention and do well, the JC is a perfect place to get your GD and transfer.

    What to do for fun

The Santa Rosa Campus has a great track if you are into running. The computer labs are very helpful and up to date. Both Campus' have a mac lab available, and the library is a great place for reading and studying. They also have a museum, and several art exhibits if seeing art is your forte. In Santa Rosa, they also have small farmers markets every two weeks on campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is spectacular. The salads are always fresh, and they have a great selection of foods from burgers, to Asian. They also hold many other snacks and protein bars for those on diets. The selection of pastries are great for those who are not on diets.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is average. As long as you have a room mate that is compatible to yourself, it is endurable. It is slightly crowded, but many students are busy working and not around. Make sure you have a neat room mate, or else life can get a little difficult at the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the people here are willing to do the work and strive to achieve their goals. Some are not sure what they would like, and are using the JC as a stopping point before continuing in a degree they are not fond of. Others know what they want and are here to get it.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip is to be open minded, and determined to learn. If you have decided to learn then the college will help you in any way to help you succeed. Be prepared for the work, and challenge yourself. It can be an educational environment if you make it.

    In three sentences

I enjoy the Santa Rosa Junior College very much. The campus in both Santa Rosa and Petaluma are very beautiful. It is a great learning atmosphere, and gives me a wonderful chance to ease my way into college while taking the classes I need for my major.

    Campus Safety

The safety at SRJC is not great. There have been accidents in the past where students have been attacked on campus after dark. There are a few officers that patrol the campus, but some of them are actually just students.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek life at SRJC.

    Clubs and Activities

There are SO many different clubs to get involved in, and the members for each club are very diverse.

Great for these types of students

Any student who is just starting their journey in college, and doesn't have a solid idea of what they want to do, should definitely consider SRJC. Also, it's great for students that just need a few classes to complete a certificate or graduate program.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The only unusual place I've encountered at SRJC is Barnett Hall. It's a building in the back of the campus by the tennis courts. It's very small and it doesn't fit in with the rest of the outstanding buildings on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The education you will receive at SRJC is pretty top of the line for a community college, and there are so many opportunities to get scholarships and financial aid.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on in front of the library. Whether it's informational booths about different programs or just sitting in front of the library and listening to music, there is always something to do on campus. SRJC also has great plays on certain weekends.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria offers great food throughout the day, and the line goes along quickly. It is slightly overpriced, but it's worth it.

    Dorm Life

    SRJC does not offer dormitories.

    Academic Rigor

It's difficult to determine academic rigor because all of the teachers are so different. Some assign more homework than others, and this adds to academic rigor.

    Tips for prospective students

Check the ratings for teachers on ratemyprofessor.com and actually read the reviews from students. Also, don't be afraid to talk to teachers during their office hours.

    In three sentences

SRJC has many different classes to choose from. Most of the teachers are very helpful, but some teachers are too old to be teaching the new generation of students. SRJC is a great start for anyone that plans on pursuing their education further.

Santa Rosa JC has its own district police force, the maintain a clear presence on campus, and also perform many helpful services such as late night security escorts, car jumps, and a dedicated staff.

    Greek Life

I'm not to familiar with this aspect of SRJC. Given the 2 year nature of the college most students do not remain on campus long enough to join a fraternity, and the Greek presence on campus is rather obscure.

    Clubs and Activities

Extracurricular activities flourish on campus with 20+ clubs actively meeting. Science and engineering clubs, atheists, Christians, chess, fencing, you name it and you can find a club on campus that has meetings in subjects of your interests.

Great for these types of students

SRJC is great for those students that feel unable to single out one Major, students who need time to stretch their legs so to speak before they begin the race of life. It is also great for those students from less than affluent backgrounds offering an amazing value for the cost of attendance.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Santa Rosa Junior College has randomly dispersed modern art throughout the Campus and features a feel not unlike an Ivy League school, with moss covered buildings, expansive grassy lawns filled with its students and a huge clock tower.

    Bang for the buck

By attending SRJC a College student would most save upwards of 15,000 a year compared to a UC. The Financial Aid office provides all the necessary forms to get the aid students need, and often tuition is free with the completion of the B.O.G. fee waiver.

    What to do for fun

Santa Rosa is a medium sized urban center, conveniently located in the beautiful wine country of California. State Parks abound, and Sonoma California, recently listed in Forbes Magazine as one of Americas prettiest towns is 30 minutes from Santa Rosa. If your tastes are a little more adventurous, San Francisco and it's night life are just a 45 minute drive down the US 101.

    Food and Dining

Santa Rosa Junior Colleges Culinary arts program is amazing. The students work at the colleges Cafe and also it's Cafeteria. The provide a delicious and varied cuisine including Chinese, Mexican, American, and Italian food items. The quality among these is excellent.

    Dorm Life

The closest thing to Dorms at Santa Rosa Junior College are the Elliot Apartments. Most of the students at the JC live off campus, but frequently with other students. Having an intact social network also does wonders to help bolster academic achievement.

    Academic Rigor

Do not think that simply because it is a Junior College it will be easier than any four year university. Many of our Professors teach at well known UC's as well as at our campus. My biology Professor also teaches at UC Berkeley several days a week, so expect a challenging and enriching curriculum.

    Tips for prospective students

The one critical skill above all others you must learn to master at any College is time and stress management. This is especially true if you have to work in addition to school. If you overextend the number of hours in a day, especially if you leave no time for yourself, be prepared for burnout.

    In three sentences

Santa Rosa Junior College is an amazing college that allows students of all backgrounds and interests a place to discover and embrace their educational passions. Whether a student intends to major in Gender studies, or Molecular Biology Santa Rosa Junior College is a great springboard to higher education. The existence of Junior Colleges like Santa Rosa JC allow countless students the opportunity to follow their dreams.

    Food and Dining

Campus food is good, they have a selection of cold sandwiches and a hot grill. If you don't want to eat on campus, there are a lot of coffee shops, and restaurants within walking distance.

    Dorm Life

It's a commuter college, they don't have dorms.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't slack off! It may be a community college but they're serious about working hard. Arrive early because parking gets tight between 10am-noon.

    In three sentences

Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) has challenging academics comparable to or better then other local universities. The class sizes are reasonable, usually around 25 students, and the professors are friendly and prompt with replying to email and helping when you have problems. The campus desperately needs upgrades (especially the older restrooms and classrooms) but overall, it's a great place to learn!

    Bang for the buck

It's a junior college. Price of tuition beats four year universities by far. Options for fee waivers and grants with financial need. I never paid a cent for tuition because of the bogg fee waiver (eighty dollars over two years for parking passes only). On top of that the pell grant significantly helped with cost of living expenses. There are many scholarship opportunities here.

    What to do for fun

First go to school here. Then join a club. Or play a sport. Or just study like mad and win scholarships.

    Food and Dining

Try and stay away from the breakfast burritos, I dare you. Main dining as well as autonomous snacking stations (vending machines) throughout.

    Dorm Life

It's a junior college so what I'm saying here is that the college atmosphere is there particularly at the main campus.

    Academic Rigor

SRJC is academically rigorous. It is a must to attend regularly, ask questions and do the assigned work. It's tough, but it is worth it!

    Tips for prospective students

Be proactive about your questions. Seek help and get them answered. You don't want to waste your time on the wrong path. See a counselor every semester. This will help you to stay on track and reaffirm your class schedule. Also, learn your professor. It seems like this should be a no brainer; they say what they want and the student complies, but it is more complex than that. What does he or she really expect? Do they say what they mean? Where do they find value in the work they assign?

    Tips for prospective students

A few things to know is that the library is very large so there is plenty of room for any student to focus on their studies, and there are convenient meeting rooms located in the library as well. Also, the classrooms are not too spaced apart so no need to worry about not getting to and from your classes on time; I would say to get from one side of the school to the other is about a 7 minute walk, and each class gets out 10 minutes early so you are able to make it to your next class on time if they are in fact back-to-back. There are a lot of opportunities for extra-curriculars such as sororities and fraternities, as well as clubs that you may find. Last but not least the teachers here are AMAZING and so helpful along with the counselors who are very patient and make sure that you are on the right path with your education. There are many clubs, sports, and activities that can keep one entertained. Also a fun thing to do is just to hang out on campus and meet the other students. Its always nice meeting new people to share your views and experience with.

Overall the dining is wonderful. The food is high quality and not too pricy for the average student. I defiantly recommend it to anyone planning on attending.

    Campus Safety

Campus police officers that are training to become police officers follow around students who need them to. The areas around the college are a little on the unsafe side, but the campus itself is filled with officers and people ready to keep you safe. They are everywhere you look.

    Greek Life

Not much greek life at this college and there are little to no frats.

    Clubs and Activities

There are more clubs and activities than I can readily list, but popular ones include the religious and athiesm clubs, along with music, art, and farming clubs. They hold various fairs to celebrate them on campus and this fair includes free food and BBQ's.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for kids who still do not know there major but need to get things done. It is also for college kids struggeling with money, but need that university level education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The clubs on campus are abundant and that is something that stands out with this community college. The huge astronomy observatory also makes this college very educational.

    Bang for the buck

if your looking for a cheap community college with the classes you need this is the right one. People fly from all around the nation to get to this school. Financial Aid is readily available and the education is at a university level in most parts.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

There are two cafeteria's, all supplied with student made food. The prices are right for struggeling college kids and the food is extremely gourmet.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is pretty stagnant, and there is not much to offer. A couple of apartments and and small quiet neighborhood.

    Academic Rigor

Even though it is slated as a community college, this college is chock full of proffessors from all around the nation. THe real quality with this school is the abundance and variety of the classes.

    Bang for the buck

This college is relatively cheap compared to most colleges, and you can apply for a BOG fee waiver to help waive tuition fees.

    Food and Dining

One cafeteria with a variety of food choices. And there's a couple coffee shops scattered around the campus.

    Dorm Life

    No housing on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Most 3 unit classes are relatively slow paced with some busy assignment work. And 4-5 unit classes are more fast paced with more in-depth thinking required, but these classes are also usually more specialized for a specific major while the 3 unit classes are for general education.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a great place to go if you're not sure on your major yet, you can take a variety of classes and try to figure out your major while getting all of the general education classes out of the way before finally deciding on a 4-year college to transfer to. There are also plenty of degrees to receive at this college if you don't wish to transfer in the future.

    In three sentences

It's a smaller sized college with a big variety of majors and transfer opportunities to any UC in the state of California. The student community is active with plenty of clubs and events to participate in. And the quality of teaching is usually very good with plenty of teachers that truly care about their students.

    What to do for fun

The beach isn't too far. Great hiking within driving distance. Plays and musicals on campus.

    Food and Dining

    Tons of options all around.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in the on campus housing, but visiting it and hearing stories, I'd look for an apartment or shared house.

    Academic Rigor

I hear it's pretty tough comparatively, especially for a JC. The anatomy class is pretty rough. Some classes were easy, others hard.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you check ratemyprofessor.com or you might get stuck with a lemon. Also ask around and see if the teacher uses the book because more often than not you buy the book and never use it.

    In three sentences

It's a nice little school that was, for me, close to home. Counsellors are often unaware of how to do their job so make sure you get a good one. Harder than other colleges I'm told, but that just prepares you better.

    Food and Dining

The burritos are tasteless, but there are plenty of snacks in the bookstore and their burgers in the servery are delicious!

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms, but the apartments right next door aren't too shabby!

    Academic Rigor

Classes aren't too hard if you actually pay attention and do your homework. Some tests that I've taken weren't necessarily the easiest to study for, but staying focused always helps!

    Tips for prospective students

There is no admission process where you have a possibility of not getting in, for it is a junior college, but I would say that if you plan on going here as a future transfer student or if you just want to figure out what to do with your life, take it seriously. Just because it's a junior college and not a university doesn't mean slacking off will get you anywhere.

    In three sentences

Great education for a junior college! The professors are very willing to help you out, but still expect college-level effort from their students. The campus is absolutely beautiful as well.
