Great for these types of students

I would say this school is great for natives of Savannah and the surrounding areas, especially if you have you have your own transportation, you will need it!

    Tips for prospective students

Always be on top of your financial aid, meal plans and housing and check out scholarships early, as you will not be informed of them after you've been accepted.

    Bang for the buck

If you are a resident of Georgia you should have no problem. The Georgia Hope Scholarship and Equalization Grant will take care of relatively all of your needs. But there are lots of scholarships offered that financial aid will not mention to you to keep them secret. Out-of-state students, like myself have a slight problem! There is a waiver you can apply for for in-state tuition, but no one will tell you unless you ask, and the deadlines will be mum on all of these offers. Be aggressive, demand assisstance!

    Am enjoying being here

Savannah is a beautiful city and the people are much more friendly and accomodating than they were in my home state. There is also plenty to do, two large malls (Oglethorpe and Savannah), River Street in Downtown Savannah, very historical and festive. However, all of these activities are hard to partake in without transportation! Remain outgoing and make a genuine effort to meet people, go out with friends in large groups, and away from private residences.

    Am learning a lot

Savannah State makes tons of learning opportunities available to you, but you have to seek them out on your own. Going to class is not enough! The library has great hours, and there are a dozen tutors on campus. If you utilize these your grades will really improve. Make sure if you are placed in 100- level classes, you do your best to test out quickly! Also keep in mind that your professors are your friends! Do not go an entire semester without stopping by during their office hours.

Get involved within the school; it will make the college experience worth your money and time. You are already paying for it within the tutition, so you might as well use it and not let the money go to waste.

    Tips for prospective students

Always call the Financial Aid building about funding for school, as while as Housing to make sure you have a room to stay in when you get there. Everything is going electronic now, so your email and PAWS account will need to be checked daily. But stay on top of Financial Aid!!! They are mighty slow!

    Bang for the buck

SSU is one of the cheapest public HBCU anywhere. But I am a cheap, so I complain about money. It is a great school to attend if money is the issue.

    Am enjoying being here

Savannah has a lot of sight seeing you can do. Savannah is a historic city, so everything has a meaning behind it when you get to the historic part of Savannah. I have learned a lot about the Savannah, Georgia history as well as African American History just by being in Savannah. If you just stay in your room and not participate in activities or enjoy the city, then you will not enjoy yourself and would want to transfer schools. That is one of the biggest problems college students have with their colleges but never admit it.

    Am learning a lot

Professors take the time to work with you if you need help. That is if you don't give them a hard time during class. They normally help during office hours, so make sure you find out the hours and use it to your advantage. Use your time wisely!!! Time Management!

    Tips for prospective students

even though you only have to have a 2.3 try to aim higher. study for your SAT *1350 and ACT*26 so you can score high enough to be exempt from regents exam. bring a fan for your room ! bring shower shoes bring bug spray

    Bang for the buck

a lot of new construction is being done. freshman will have ALL new dorms. also, because of the $1.00 transportation fee increase we will have off campus shuttle bus this upcoming fall 2011 semester that will take students with no car to local stores

    Am enjoying being here

ALWAYS things to do, just look around on the bulletin boards or get on twitter to find out what is going on. Also, it is to your benefit to get to know lots of people because text will cirrulate about parties and upcoming events :)

    Am learning a lot

Savannah State University is often classified as a just gotta make it type school. People realize that you only need a 2.3 to be eligible for acceptance and incorrectly assume that the requirements are low because it is not a challenging school. In actuality, the entry requirements for applying to SSU are purposely set low because they do not want to deny any one the right to an education. The admissions staff here realize that students may not have been as focused in high school, or some were not interested in the subject matters being taught...so they try to be more lenient. Unlike K-12 schooling, continuing your education after high school is optional. As kind of an incentive for a new beginning and fresh start, Savannah State University makes it easy for students to get into the institution. Although it is easy to get in, it is also easy to get (kicked)out. SSU expects the best from their students or at the bare minimal an effort and if some students do not meet that expectation, they are put on academic suspension.

    Tips for prospective students

I believe that Savannah State University is one of the greatest Universities in the state of Georgia. When you enter Savannah State or another University of your choice. Always think postitive, never doubt yourself or your work, have fun, get your work done and in on time, hold your head up high, never let someone get you down (your professor included), and just enjoy life.

    Bang for the buck

Savannah State University has a great way of sending off someone's refund check not on time, at the last minute, and around the time of a major event on campus. Last year, I thoughtt I was going to have my refund check valentine weekend but it did not come till two weeks later. Don't get me wrong, the refund checks are wonderful. Especially when you are in college and need money. College is not cheap and you will need money.

    Am enjoying being here

Savannah is a historic city and has much to offer to someone who has never been here before. Many college students say that they do not enjot Savannah, yet they do not tend to go out and see what is here. Staying locked up in a dorm room will not help at all. I have learned much about Savannah and some of the streets that are here. Victory St. for an example. Victory St. was named Victory St. because this is where General Sherman walked to the ocean to fight for Victory. This is why the street is called Victory St.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at Savannah State University, really take the time out to help their students learn. Professors usually give outside help during their office hours. Finding out your professor office hours is very important, so use your time wisely. If you need help the professors will not approach you, you have to seek their help.

I honestly would not waste my money time or energy. Someone must have made up the previous reviews unless we are talking about two different schools. We are rated the decond most dangerous school in the nation

    Am enjoying being here

Savannah State University is a very stressful environment. Everything is about money, if you don't have a parking decal you will be ticketed $35 just everytime they see your car until you get one. I am a senior just before I was about to pay my senior dues I got 70 in parking fines... not to mention the fines you get during random room checks which they do whenever and how many time they please.

I learned a lot but when I used was what I was taught my teachers thought that I was being an insubordinate.

African Americans that like being around a lot of African Americans. This is a TRUE HBCU

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

St. Patricks Day and Orange Crush are big events in Savannah.

    Bang for the buck

It is worth the money, and pretty inexpensive.

    What to do for fun

There are always parties and activities. ALWAYS. there will be something to do, but be sure to do your work first and make it to class in the morning.

    Food and Dining

The food is almost the same as high school. it is what you make it. There are several dining areas, but you can always cook for yourself.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms are new and nice. There Are curfews and visitation hours though. The upperclasmen dorms are renovated apartments, so you feel almost at home. However apply for housing EARLY!

    Academic Rigor

You will learn what you allow yourself to. Ask about the teachers BEFORE registering, upperclassmen will be glad to help you. Overall, its pretty easy, if you GO TO CLASS.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for the heat. It gets HOT! Be prepared for the greek life and parties. PRIOTRITIZE! and remember to STUDY!

    In three sentences

I think Savannah State University has a beautiful Campus. Savannah State University is inexpensive. Savannah State University has adequate and even new housing.

    Campus Safety

To me suprisingly Savannah State has good safety. Although there have been shootings about 3 or 4 times in the past year, Savannah State is safe for the most part. If you don't have an SSU ID after 8 o'clock you cannot enter campus. Police stay on patrol. They have Emergency Post located consistently throughout campus. and Campus security is on point. I don't ever feel like I am in danger, even if I'm walking around campus at 3 am.

    Greek Life

In 2011 I didn't really hear much about greek life. I wanted to pledge before I got there but when I got there I didn't want to anymore because they seemed lame (not alot of members). But since 2012 SSU has had many probates and greek life has became interesting and life has been added to basically all of them. Greek Life for 2012-2013 should be live and in full throttle for the future. The greek life is also of quality.

    Clubs and Activities

As I said before SSU is very versatile when it comes to their clubs and organizations but the most popular are the Modeling Clubs and Greek Life.

Great for these types of students

Students who have interest in Mass Communications, Performing Arts, and Business would love this school. Savannah State holds alot of events that include host, performances creativity and business opportunities.Students who also like to party and socialize will also like this school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

For freshmen the student center is far from the freshmen dorms so they can often be inconvenient after a long day of classes. The basket ball court is in a odd location and should have lights installed. SSU recently built a skating park and volleyball court right next to each other and right next to the basketball court. I'm not really sure what I am supposed to cover in this section...

    What to do for fun

Sadly there is nothing really to do for fun. SSU has a pool, an old game room that needs more development, a basketball gym, a work out gym, sporting events and other than that organizations you can join. and events that you can attend. The only thing about these are the hours. They are very short lived, and they seem to open and close when the school feels like opening and closing them, and not according to schedule. Savannah State definitely needs to work on providing more activities. Students often get bored on weekends .

    Food and Dining

Before Savannah State opened up The Union (New Student Center) they had three different locations to eat; The Caf, The Quick Caf, and Tiger Express. On a scale of 1-10 I give the caf (Buffet) a 4, and that's only because I like there breakfast, They need to make big improvements of the quality and healthiness of the food. Sometimes it can look unappetizing. The Quick Caf (Pizza Hut, Subs, and Smoothies) which is now closed I give 7, most students miss this and the convenience of it. I give Tiger Express (similar to Sonic) a 6, for the most part the food is decent and better than the caf, but because of the short hours, no one really has time to go there anymore. The New Student Center has good food but it can be very unhealthy and get tiring at times. inconveniently on weekends the NSC and The Caf are the only two things available. Savannah State Definitely needs to work on adding more food places and give more variety and serve healthier foods.

    Dorm Life

Recently Savannah State University has had renovation in many dorm buildings. This is a great improvement for the University, and has drawn many students interest. The only thing students may not like; freshmen to be more specific, are the visitation rules. There are curfews and if you break the curfews you will have consequences that you will regret at the end of the semester. Most of the freshmen dorms are clean. Upperclassmen dorms need to be renovated, but SSU is in the process of fixing this problem.

    Academic Rigor

Savannah State University's Academic rigor is like any other school. Its not too easy, and its not too hard. Like most colleges the best thing for you to do is to stay focused on your work at all times. Put your work first. It is easy for you to get distracted and venture into the wrong crowd at times, but just remember your sole purpose of attendance. Most of the professor's are decent and fulfill there jobs as needed. At times the work can be overwhelming depending on your professor, but the best thing to do is to stick it out.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of your classes and financial aid. Meet with your advisor often, ask them about scholarship, contest, and internship opportunities. Get involved. Savannah State has many organizations varying from art, sports, greeks, social, departmental, honors and business.

    In three sentences

Savannah State University is getting better and better as each year progresses. They are coming up on there recreation and architecture. Although Savannah State University is a Historically Black College University, the students, teachers, and programs are quite versatile.

Great for these types of students

Students that feel they can handle both the slow days and the livelier days. If you're the kind of person that feels the need to always have something to do, or has a hard time making your own fun, this wouldn't be an ideal school. I would recommend this school for students that can enjoy their downtime as well as going out.

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely come to visit the school first. I didn't, and wound up still enjoying the campus, but my experience could have turned out a lot differently. Also, some of the people in my incoming class found each other on Facebook. I recommend joining your class page, or following each other on Twitter. It gives you the opportunity to get a brief glimpse of who you're going to be meeting.

    Bang for the buck

While I do feel as though I'm learning, and I enjoy the school, I'm not sure if my money has been well invested. A lot of development is going on at the school, using the tuition of the students, and I feel like since it's our money being used, we should have more of a say of what is going to be implemented and built. I also feel that experiences in the main offices could go smoother. I've heard students say that the office had misplaced a document of theirs, made a mistake in their student bill, etc.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy it at Savannah State, but sometimes I feel like it's a little slow. Coming here from the city where it seems like there's always something to do, it was a hard transition for me to get used to it down here. However, the people I have met have been pleasant, and I love the weather. Also, Downtown is great for shopping.

    Am learning a lot

While I don't find my courses to be too strenuous, I do feel like I'm learning. Some may complain that the teachers are too lax, or feel as though they're not doing their job, but in my own opinion your learning experience is your own. The teacher's teaching, or lack thereof, shouldn't deter you from learning as much as you can.

    Bang for the buck

    Food and Dining

Its easy not to eat healthy...

    Dorm Life

Just remember to get your work done first, and if you have a problem with your roommate that you cant fix don't wait it out.

    Academic Rigor

Just get to class on time, show respect (not sucking up), and do the work and you'll be fine. Study groups wont hurt.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to stand out with your professors so that they are willing to help you if your sitting on a bubble. Take advantage of the rewrite connection but try to make friends to look over your papers for you. If possible try to get books from amazon or ask around before buying from the book store you can save your self up to a hundred dollars.

    In three sentences

Savannah State is the place to for you to get your second chance if you didn't apply your self like you should have in high school. The Professors(at least the one's I've had so far) are willing to help you as long as your trying to help yourself. The campus is the perfect size if you don't have a car.

Great for these types of students

This college is ideal for students hoping to build a career based in the science field. This is also the ideal college for social students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The top locations on campus would be the Student Union, The Circle and the dorms. These locations are where the majority of students on campus will hang out. These locations are also where a majority of the activities on campus take place.

    What to do for fun

For fun there are a lot of activities organized to make college life entertaining. There are DJ's, block parties, and more. You have to be here to see some of the activities presented by the student affairs office.

    Food and Dining

On campus there are three facilities at which one can eat. These three facilities have their own individual style of cooking. There is always something new to eat on campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is very interesting. The rooms are setup in such a way that each roommate has his or her privacy. And if there is a problem that arises between the two residents, you are given the option to apply for a room transfer.

    Academic Rigor

The classes on campus are not taught on intermediate levels. This means that the courses will be challenging. Therefore, when it comes to your academics one must focus on his or her work.

    Tips for prospective students

Once you enroll into Savannah State University, do not lose focus on the reason that you chose the college, which should be academically based. Having fun should come after academic success.

    In three sentences

Savannah State University is one of the Historically Black College/University in the South and the only university that lies on the coast. The campus is beautiful and they offer great academic and extracurricular activities that one can join. The staff and the students are interactive and fun to be around.

Great for these types of students

If you live on campus in an apartment-style dorm or if you live off-campus and are able to afford healthy food, this is the school for you. If you cannot afford healthy food or if you have to live in a traditional-style dorm, this is not the school for you.

    Tips for prospective students

When you pick out a school, look for more than a nice campus. Healthy food is essential to maintaining a high GPA and healthy body weight. The food at this university is extremely unhealthy.

    Bang for the buck

They charge a lot of money for the one or two healthy food items which rarely have the option of a side and drink. The unhealthy items, such as burgers, pizza, and fried chicken are affordable and always include a side and drink. For students like me, who have a healthy diet and rely on fruits, steamed vegetables, and organic foods, it is a constant struggle. Foods high in fat, calories, and grease, such as the foods at Savannah State, disagree with our bodies and make us ill. Healthy foods are indeed more expensive, but they are vital in maintaining healthy weight, blood pressure, and energy.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful, but many of the lovely trees are being cut down, to my dismay. In addition to this, the workers at the campus tend to give you the run-around. I am unsure as to whether this is from lack of information on their part or the lack of wanting to deal with the students. Their attitudes change when they deal with our parents and I find this unacceptable, for the students here are adults and deserve to be treated as such. Lastly, the food here is centered around unhealthy fast-food diets which is counter-productive to active students and higher GPAs.

    Am learning a lot

Many of the professors I have had are very knowledgeable of their subjects. So far, the best teachers I have had are Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Rafaczs of the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Department.

Great for these types of students

Savannah State University is great for those students who want to attend a small college scene in an active city. SSU offers so much for being a smaller institution of higher learning. You will need drive, dedication, and a ability to strive for the best.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospect students would be to strive. Do not become a part of a crowd that is not going anywhere fast. Be focused and have goals set for yourself. Set them high, so when you breakthrough, you obtain a better understanding of what you want to do and how to do it. You will grow in ways you may not have thought possible. Get out and join as many organizations, thus, bringing about change for yourself and those involved. Come here to grow and not to be the same person when arriving. Be active in what goes on in the surrounding the area by means of community service or volunteer work. If your not a part of the solution, then your a part of the problem.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that I am receiving quality teaching for the money paid to the institution. In the classroom, my professors contain an ample amount of knowledge of their subjects. Also, many changes have occurred since my freshman year here. There are more organizations to be a part of (Savannah State Eco-Tigers for example), a better means of transportation provided for us students (city bus transit on and off campus), services (computer services for example), and the campus beautification process has been outstanding in adding that extra pizazz, that I feel, has made me appreciate being here at Savannah State University even more.

    Am enjoying being here

I matriculated to Savannah State University in August 2008. Since being here I feel it has been one of the right decisions I've made in my life. Not only did coming here get me away from home, but it opened my eyes to who I am more, introduced me to brand new possibilities and desires, and helped me to mature properly. There are those moments where I can not stand things that may go on here, but thinking on where I have come from, I realize that the things I consider minor annoyances are pushing me to be a better person. My understanding of the situation enables me to grow. It's the college by the sea. SSU I hold dear to thee.

    Am learning a lot

I find that a major purpose in life is to accumulate as much knowledge as possible. It is not only good to have knowledge, but the ability to incorporate and use such a tool in everyday life affairs is important. Here at Savannah State University, the professors take the time to work with us students in and outside of the classroom. Their office doors are open and welcome all who want, or need help in any way. Being ahead of the pack is a norm here. One can seek and will find all that he/she is looking for here at Savannah State University satisfying all requirements that the real world has to offer.

This design was implemented in order to catch any intruders or those on campus who are trying to escape capture. Everyone that works in the dorm is very friendly, just be sure to remain clean because you can be fined for unsanitary living space. Be sure to make the best of it. Most of the freshman dorms are new. I was the first person to stay in my dormitory. It is a great experience overall.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are pretty rigorous, but it really depends on the teachers you will receive. Every professor is going to have his or her own standards and ask of you what they believe to be fair. Personally each professor I came across was very rigorous. an definitely say I worked for my grade. If you put in the effort to see your professors and get help when you need it, the class will become easier for you. If you stay focused then you will be a very successful student at this illustrious university by the sea.

As a student at Savannah State the best thing you can do is know your study skills and know how to balance pleasure with your studies. The safety is not all that great, we had a shooting on campus in one of the upperclassmen dorms.

    Greek Life

There are plenty of Greek life organizations on campus, there is even a Greek life cheerleaders, band people, and more.

    Bang for the buck

The books that the students return do not have much value. Say you pay $200.00 for a book, at the end of the semester you give it back to the bookstore you'll get back $15 or $20. There are plenty of people who buy back books from students for a reasonable price.

    What to do for fun

There are some parties here and there, some one is always promoting something. The school is by downtown Savannah which is fun at times. The nightlife is pretty decent as well.

    Food and Dining

There should be more options with the food. A person with a strict diet would be very upset with the food choices at Savannah State. A lot of the food is not healthy and very repetitive. When the school does change up the food a bit sometimes it is not always yummy. One thing I have a problem with is that in what we call the Big Caf you can't take certain foods out. I find this problematic because I payed for the food and I should be able to take the food out of the eating place.

    Dorm Life

My goodness, the dorms are not all that appealing. Some dorms are nice while others could use some major work.

    Academic Rigor

The academics aren't really that hard, but then again it depends on the courses you take and the professors a student has.

    Tips for prospective students

For the prospective students, I would have to say...from experience, try the best you can to keep your grades up because any little thing can help you to loose your scholarship. You all have to stay focused at all times. I know every or most college student wants to party and have a great time, but don't let that be your priority. You have to remember that college is not a place where you want to stay your whole life. I would also like to say, try your best to get any scholarships and grants you can so you do not have to take out any loans!

    In three sentences

Savannah State University really is not that bad of a school. If I had to rate it, I would give the school a 7 out of 10. Everything about the school could be made better.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty cool, although is does have its rules which rates to about a 4 depending on your classification and living environment. Freshman usually have more rules just to insure that they are for the most part remaining focused on their work.

In order to be academically successful, students must always put their work first. I would say the academic learning's rating is about a 4 1/2, because most teacher do however make sure that all lessons are being taught accordingly.

The academic rigor at Savannah State to me is perfection. Not only is it challenging, but at the same time the teachers there are encouraging you. College work has a bad tone to it, however if you're in college for the right reasons you will excel.

    Tips for prospective students

Being a freshman at Savannah State I feel as though I have already obtained enough experience to help someone else along their way. One tip that I feel as though is the one on PROCRASTINATION! It can and if you allow it, will be the end of you. Always do your work on time and never half do anything. However, if you want to succeed then always and continuously put a hundred percent into all that you do.

    In three sentences

Being a freshman at Savannah State University is a life altering experience, and thus far it is truly an exceptional quest. Savannah State University embodies the beliefs and characteristics that I believe any school should obtain. It is the great SCHOOL BY THE SEA!

    What to do for fun

For fun they have many extracurricular activities and things to do to pass the time, in a beneficial way. With a workout gym, basketball courts and a cool pool, you can relax after midterms and finals and rest within the campus's beauty.

    Food and Dining

The diners on campus will have you full if you go when they are open. Of course you have to make sure your schedule does not conflict with the times they are open, in college you need food and great nutrition and they will help you with that.

    Dorm Life

Just like in any place, you must keep you precious things thing locked away, hidden and not speak of them. College is a stressful place and you must realize people will steal from you anywhere. However at this school it is a necessity but they have a great security system and the campus police will protect us all by any means.

    Academic Rigor

You must stay on top of your work and on task! In the real world there is no room for error in any profession you seek, so here we must study and prepare ourselves for life which will not stop for us.

    Tips for prospective students

Always stay focused. Throughout the obstacles of life we need to learn responsibility and going to this school, you will understand how to do so quickly, losing focus could harm your future.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Felix Circle is a traditional landmark at Savannah State University. This is where all of the Greek plots are, as well as a majority of the Freshman dormitories.

    Bang for the buck

For what Savannah State charges you in tuition, room and board, meal plans, etc., you pretty much get your money's worth.

    What to do for fun

Savannah has many tourist sites, making for interesting things to do. Also, Downtown Savannah has many stores and shops which are appealing to many people. Also in Downtown Savannah are people such as art/music venders. Other than that, fun things include the official and unofficial parties that are hosted at, as well as around Savannah State University.

    Food and Dining

Savannah State University has three different places on campus in which you can eat at: The Student Union, Tiger Express, and The Cafeteria. The U, and Tiger Express are more fast-food based, while the Cafeteria has more traditional and home-styled foods. Overall, the food is pretty good despite the slight lack of variety.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at Savannah State University is pretty good. However, some dorms are nicer than others. On the flip side, the nicer dorms cost more, so where you live is up to your preference and financial situation. Freedom to do whatever you want in your dorm is limited in some aspects.

    Academic Rigor

For me, the classes at Savannah State University provided a moderate level of difficulty. They weren't to hard, but they weren't a breeze either. I think this was true because of my work ethic. I worked hard and completed a majority of the work for the classes that I took, so passing was not too strenuous for me.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips that I would give to students attending Savannah State University are to keep your head on straight, maintain focus, and make sure that you get your work done, because there is no one there to make sure you do. Learn to be independent, and don't become to wrapped up in the student life to the point where your grades begin ti suffer.

    In three sentences

In my opinion, Savannah State is the best HBCU you ever. It has a very cordial atmosphere, as well as an easy to learn environment. Overall, Savannah State University is a very good college.

    What to do for fun

There are numerous things to do on campus students can: swim, work out, game rooms, or hang out with friends. There are more to do off-campus than on campus: the movie theater is two minutes away from campus, River Street which is the biggest tourism in Savannah which is my favorite to go to, the beach is thirty minutes away which is great for the college students, and to sum it up there are many historical sites around Savannah and on campus.

    Food and Dining

Most colleges only have a cafeteria but not Savannah State University, the school have seven different restaurants to eat at: Tiger Express, Chicken Shack, Austin Grill, Starbucks, Sub Sandwiches, Marsh Sunrise and the cafeteria. The cafeteria is a buffet from salads to desserts Savannah State has it all, Austin grill is an Mexican food restaurant, Chicken Shack is an soul food restaurant, Marsh Sunrise is an all day breakfast restaurant, Tiger Express is an fast food restaurant, Starbucks and Sub sandwiches are self-explanatory. Overall, the campus food is aju mas-issneun which means very delicious.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life at Savannah State University has its pros and cons, freshmen dorms are either not private or semi private, and the student have to share a bathroom with four to eight students. Fortunately, sophomores, juniors, and seniors dorms are apartment style: your own room, its fully-furnished, full bed, kitchen, living room, and most importantly you either share a bathroom with only one person or by yourself.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is going to be high, if the student wants to excel in their college careers. Of course the academic rigor has different levels depending on what the student is majoring in. In my case, my major is International business with a concentration in Asian studies, therefore; I have a bigger work load than most students. The first two years of any college student there are required courses everyone has to take unless your lucky enough to be exempt.

    Tips for prospective students

All prospective students should make a study schedule, homework schedule, as well as an leisure schedule. No matter what college prospective students attend they should make schedules, this is a major component of being an successful college student.

    In three sentences

If you like small campuses, this school is for you. Overall, Savannah State University is a great school: wonderful teachers, wonderful historical sites, and the beach is close! Unfortunately, Savannah State University provides minimum major choices that is the only downfall of the university.

There has been a robbery on campus and a shooting off of campus in the last semester, but other than that it's been pretty safe.

    Greek Life

The Greek life seems very interesting and fun; they are like the main supporters of the university and their Greek events for their specific fraternities of sororities are always great to go to.

    Greek Life

There are the main Frats and Sororities that do show off their colors, and it is very fun to watch them interact with the students.

    Bang for the buck

Savannah is a very historic town, and it is known to be haunted so there is much to do for a spooky scare off campus. We also have our own scary theories about ghosts on campus.

    What to do for fun

You can go to the game room, work out, swim, attend activities held by Greek Life or on campus clubs. There are also a lot of places right of campus downtown to go see and learn about Savannah's history.

    Food and Dining

The food at the Cafeteria is great you have a good variety and there are also two other establishments you can eat at.

    Dorm Life

Most of the buildings are renovated and newly built there are only two run down buildings, but they are also the cheapest.

    Academic Rigor

The work isn't necessarily hard just vigorous unless you are a Biology major then it is extremely tedious.

    Tips for prospective students

The three greatest tips I could give anyone about Savannah are: 1. Remember why you came to college. ( to learn ) 2. Attend class no matter what time starts because attendance is a grade. 3. Do all of your work & study before you do anything else. You can lose focus easily while being on campus. There are a lot of distractions.

    In three sentences

Savannah State based on education is a great school, and will definitely help you get that opportunity to receive that higher education. Although it is a great school, educationally wise there are a lot of things preventing Savannah State from being superior to other HBCU's. The crime rate is very high, and there is a lot of crime and drug involvement on campus.

    Food and Dining

If this was on a scale from 0-10 i'd give it a -1. the campus security is a bunch of elderly people who ride around in the bubble cars telling you where you can and can't stand and who you can and can not have in your room but they are nowhere to be found when a shooting happens or some other fowl things happen that should't happen. The security is the main reason I want to transfer its just that horrible.

    Greek Life

The greek life is a whole other story. The AKA's and Kappa's are always on suspension. Then Delta's are pretty nice ladies the Ques are nice as well but they can be very rude when other greek life is performing or doing something special and the others you never really hear much from.

Great for these types of students

Those who are just out to party

    Bang for the buck

Not exactly the school is ok but all the money you pay you never see where it goes. Instead of building another laundry room for the University Commons they decided to build a second basketball court by the boys dormitory so that goes to show that your money isn't being well spent.

    What to do for fun

The Campus actually does have a lot of clubs and events that go

    Food and Dining

The food in the Cafeteria is good and so is the food in the student Union but its very limited and you'll often get tired of eating it and also the prices just dont work for what you get and always remember to GET THE DINING DOLLARS you will need those.

    Dorm Life

THE GOOD: You will definitely make some amazing friends and meet very nice people who could possibly become like family. Upper Class-men you get more privacy UNLESS you stay in the University Commons A room because they just recently decided to bunk 2 people to the A rooms because our president didn't stop at the cut off limit for the amount of students we can hold THE BAD: You have visitation hours which doesn't make since because they always say they won't treat us like children that we're adults now but what adult has visitation hours. As far as freshmen I would advise you to stay in Camilla because all the other dorms get their fire alarms pulled for no reason. No real security so break ins are common in The University Commons.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of everything because they have ways of getting your money. And consider a different school because as we all know colleges are all out for the money but this school does not hide it or care.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on on campus from sporting events, to spoken word, and even parties on campus. My favorite activity is swimming so I spend a lot of time in the pool.

    Food and Dining

We have three areas to eat: the cafe, the student union, and the tiger express. The Cafe is this big cafeteria where students swipe their cards once and can eat in every line as much as they want, like a buffet. The menu varies day by day. The Student Union has about 4-5 places to eat but you swipe once and you get a meal with unlimited refills. In the Union, the food is always the same at every venue throughout the whole semester. The Tiger express is a small restaurant that would remind you of a waffle house, not much dining space but the food is good.

    Dorm Life

As a freshman and/or sophomore, dorm life isn't the best. Some people are okay with sharing one room with a stranger and one bathroom with three strangers. Personally, I wish I would have been paired with someone I knew. It was a learning experience though. As a junior/senior, dorm life is better because you have more personal space in the apartment style dorms. The only con is being subjected to room checks while you're still living with your parents even though you're suppose to be grown.

    Academic Rigor

We have some of the best, hardest working professors. They go above and beyond to keep students interested while teaching important information. And it shows through our test scores that they are doing a great job.
