Great for these types of students

This university is great for all types of students. Its good for those that want a small place, those that want a medium place, a place that can be like a second home. There is plenty of people and everyday you meet and see new people. Also, it is very accepting of any nationality and economic background, I am a Hispanic from a middle class background and I'm having a very good and amazing time here. Its truly an awesome place.

    Tips for prospective students

For those students here in New Jersey, you will get help from the state, the university, and I encourage you to apply for EOP. I am an EOP student and it truly helps you in terms of refining and not losing the skills you have obtained in high school and you obtain a grant from them that truly helps you out no matter how small it is, every little bit helps. For those not in Jersey, you still obtain scholarships and grants from the university and you can transfer into the EOP program if you were in an EOP of EOF program at your state. Dorming is really amazing, I highly encourage it since you meet new people and new friendships will grow and soon you become the best of friends. In my dorm building, everyone knows me and I know them, its an amazing relationship we have because we get along and we all know each and we just have fun. Seton Hall is definitely a great place, with professors that help you and willing to answer your questions and staff all over campus that will help you if you search for it and it is not hard to do.

    Bang for the buck

It is a lot of money, its a private institution and that means that you have to pay a lot of money. However, the school helps you with financial aid and there is a grant that Seton Hall gives to all its students depending on the FAFSA and their economic background. You also receive grants from the state to help you come to this university and the university has grants and scholarships of its own. There are ways for you to attend here and their scholarships and grants help you especially EOP. Also it is a very prestigious school where its name is grand and known worldwide, graduating from here will give you a degree that is so valuable and that guarantees you a job in six months as per Seton Hall itself says. A degree that is a lot of money but well worth it when you obtain your job and when you have a high position and earning a very good salary.

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy being here. The campus is medium-sized. Not too big and not too small, its just right. You can imagine yourself there and it is a really amazing sight when you see it. The middle of the university is the lawn called The Green and it is really green. Its really an amazing sight and you can see yourself there and you'll feel right at home because its not small and its not big, it is just right for anybody.

    Am learning a lot

Seton Hall is a mainstream college meaning it is a college that specializes in every single major that is possible and that there is no specific major that they cater to. It is more for those who want a traditional college experience since this is what Seton Hall represents. In the classes I have taken, I am learning a lot and learning new things. A lot of reading you have to do but it benefits you because at some point in life, you will remember what you read and you will use it in whatever it is you are doing.

Great for these types of students

out going people that like diversity. There are so many types of people

    Tips for prospective students

Always make an appointment for anything the school is horrible with walk ins. Sometime thy make you wait forever just to tell you they cant help you. Be outgoing get to know people

    Bang for the buck

They do give you a lot of free stuff. Its not totally free you are paying to go to a private school which means expensive. They have a lot of people to help you too.

    Am enjoying being here

I like the school there is always something to do and your only a short train ride from the city. And the people are pretty nice.

    Am learning a lot

Even though some professor seem extremely boring they all know what their talking about. I've actually learned a lot here and I've only been at SHU for 1 semester. The thing they don't always tell you is that you have to take 2 core classes that don't really count for much they just teach you how to get through your first year, you also have to take a religious class.

Great for these types of students

It's really diverse, so almost anyone can fit in. Sort of clique-y and small, but there's more often than not a niche for everyone. You just really have to look for it.

    Tips for prospective students

Network. Make friends. Double check,t triple check facts and times and grades. Some things here aren't communicated well, especially when it comes to time and money. Make the best of it for yourself, you have to.

    Bang for the buck

It's private school, so it's expensive. Often times I'm disappointed with lack of communication among offices, especially the bursar. Tuiton really isn't going down anytime soon, and I'll probably graduate early to try and fend off the cost.

    Am enjoying being here

Campus is fairly tiny, and if you don't go out a ton, it can get sort of boring. There's fair amount of greek life and a lot of athletes, but besides that you really need to work at it to be amused.

    Am learning a lot

The professors who specialize in the classes pertinent to your major will expect a lot out of you. They all work very hard to make sure that you're understanding and constantly challenging yourself to achieve and really earn for your major. I can't say the same about gen-ed professors, though.

    Tips for prospective students

Freshmen year is the year students tend to Wild Out. Going into any school you will face this. Just control yourselves. Your freshmen year is the most important; it is the foundation of a great GPA to begin.

    Bang for the buck

Now, I know Seton Hall University is beyond expensive. Sometimes I do think about transfering. But, than thinking about what this school offers and NOT TO MENTION how well known the school it is worth it ! Everytime I tell someone I attend Seton Hall, their impression is WOW, thats a great school !

    Am enjoying being here

Student life is what you make it. If you join Organizations on campus you will have a great time. We have 14 NCAA Division I Varisity, and our Baseball team just won THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE. So the school is going to be pretty crazy when we get back to Fall 2011. We have 100+ Organizations on campus. There is a huge variety so TRUST ME when i tell you, you will find the prefect organization for you. We also have 27 Greek Societies, which is what makes the school amazing.

    Am learning a lot

Just about 88% of professors at Seton Hall have a Ph.D. So your learning from the best of the best. The class ratio of student to professor is 14:1. So the professor knows who you are; your not just a regular student he/she collects their money from. Every professor has office hours and ALWAYS expect their kids to go to their office hours. The professor's are there to help you! If you don't take advantage of it you really don't know how lucky you can be. Even if you dont understand the professor and need EXTRA help. Shu has an academic resource center (ARC). There they have tutors for just about all subjects. We have a writing center; where there are students or english professors helping you with your papers. We even have tutoring in the residences hall., these tutors are willing to work around your schedule. SO there is NO way you can do bad in your classes unless if you dont really try !

Great for these types of students

Seton Hall is great for motivated, eager, and expressive students who don't mind getting involved on campus!

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Keep an open mind! College is what we make it out to be. There are plenty of great people, clubs, and events to attend on campus! Emails are sent out every week, promising something fun and productive to do every day of the week. 2) Take advantage of Office Hours! Every teacher has time set apart in their schedule for their students... use it! They want to help you, and are very glad to see a motivated and determined student. If you've been getting B's on quizzes, why not go and work extra hard for that A? It only benefits you. 3) Participate, participate, PARTICIPATE! While there are plenty of events on campus, there are also clubs and student groups that carry opportunities to meet some wonderful people.

    Bang for the buck

At Seton Hall University the tuition is fairly high, but included is a Writing Center, Scholarship Center, Tutoring System, gym, diverse cafeteria, lots of free on-campus events, and much, much more.

    Am enjoying being here

As a Freshman from out of state, I was fairly worried about attending a school in which I knew no one. To ease the worry Freshman undergo, Seton Hall set up a Pirate Weekend. During Pirate Weekend in late June, enrolled Freshmen can tour the campus with more detail, spend a night in the dorms, and (best of all) get to meet their new classmates. Although there were a lot of new people to get acquainted with, I met two wonderful girls during that time who remain my closest friends on campus today!

    Am learning a lot

Here at Seton Hall, there are a plethora of interesting classes one can enroll in as a Freshman along with the required University Life and Journey of Transformation classes. The classes are very structured and well-taught by a diverse span of professors. The teachers are always ready to help, and have given me a hand on more than one occasion. Although it takes a lot of hard work and patience, the classes are just as fun as the vibrant student life.

    Campus Safety

for the campus safety we have something called the blue light sytem. there are numerous stations located throughout capus which are visable whereever you are. also the south orange police station is located a few blocks away from our campus so there is never a time where you feel unsafe.

    Greek Life

greek life is somewhat mysterious on campus. there aren't any fraternity or sorority houses located on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

there are a ton of different clubs and activities on campus. each semester the clubs display themseleves on the green so that new and old students get a chance to learn a little bit about each of them. this is a fun time where you can meet new friends and discover what the shcool has to offer,

Great for these types of students

this is a great school for all types of students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

an unusual tradition on campus is not to step on our school seal which is located in the middle of the green. it is said that if you step on in you will not graduate in four years. if you happen to step on it you are supposed to run from the seal to the recreation center when our prate statue is displayed. you then have to rub is feet then proceed to run back to the seal to undo this so called 'curse'. its not a real curse but the students respect the seal by walking around it instead of stepping on it. the good news is at graduation yourself along with your fellow classmates will run across the seal to show your success for completing all four years.

    What to do for fun

if you are looking for fun there are various activities to participate in on and off campus. this can include weekend trips away or a short train ride to new york cityfor a night of fun. there is something for everyone.

    Food and Dining

in the campus cafeteria there is a buffet section and a grab and go section. in the buffet there are awlays prepared meals and even a make it your own station. in these stations you can make your own pasta, stirfry, omlets, and even asian cuisine. in the grab and go sectio you can enjoy a pizza place, nathans, ice cream parlor, pirate express, and sandwhich/salad shop

    Dorm Life

dorm life is something that all freshmen should experience. it helps a lot the first year when you don't have to worry about getting together with other classmates, studying, or getting assistance with homework. everything is at your fingertips.

    Academic Rigor

each major requires hard work but don't let that intimidate you. at this university you will get help every step of they way so when you leave you are ready to enter the work 'world' with confidence.

    Tips for prospective students

for all perspective student you should all visit the campus to get a feel of the atmosphere. explore the school website in order to see if there are programs, clubs, sports, and other various acivities that interest you.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs are great. There are over 180 clubs for all types of preferences.

    What to do for fun

There are parties on campus. There is a tennis court nearby. There's a gym to work out. I'm more into my books, so I'm not really sure.

    Food and Dining

The food is good when you first get there. However, like any college food, you start getting tired of it. They make really good sandwiches!

    Dorm Life

I'm a commuter, but I do stay over on campus in my friends dorm at times. It's fun. Just make sure that you don't get carried away with the social life.

    Academic Rigor

Academically, this school is very challenging, but you will only see that if you put forth effort. The professors are there to make sure that you become an expert in the field that you study.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard to get high SAT scores because it will ultimately determine how much scholarship money that you receive from the university. Also, try to be as socially active as possible without making you grades suffer. The experience looks good on your resume.

    In three sentences

I would recommend this university to anyone! They have great resources for the students attending in order to help them figure out what type of career to strive for. This university is also very prestigious so it will help give credibility to your degree for when you go out into the work force.

    Greek Life

There is a large Greek life on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many different clubs and organizations on campus that there is definitely one for everyone.

    Bang for the buck

It is a bit pricy but they do give out scholarships. You also get a degree from a very well known school.

    What to do for fun

The train station is right down the road and NYC is just 20 mins away. On campus they always have concerts and different events to engage the students.

    Food and Dining

The food could definitely be better however they are continuously asking for opinions and changing things up to meet the needs of the students.

    Dorm Life

They make the dorms very safe and clean. It is a great environment

    Academic Rigor

The courses are very tough and the professors really push you however you end up learning more than you thought!

    Tips for prospective students

Take a trip to the school to visit to really get a feel for the university. It is important to think about where you want to be and whether you want a large campus or small campus as well as the people you want to be around.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall is a great small community with a large diversity. It offers many different course with some great professors who are always more than willing to help. Seton Hall is also in a great area where the town is right down the road as well as the train station!

    Campus Safety

Plenty of security on campus and a safe ride system that picks students up for free anywhere in South Orange until 3 a.m.

    Greek Life

Greek Life isn't overbearing at Seton Hall but is a huge part of the life of those involved. Greek Organizations are highly involved on campus, great tight knit communities, smaller in size and affordable!

    Clubs and Activities

There is a lot to do for everyone! Model UN, Debate, a renowned radio station, WSOU, a campus paper, and a Peer Advisor Program for those qualified and interested. Students can also easily start up their own club if they would like. There are events every night, including a concert this year.

Great for these types of students

Students that enjoy a small school, small class sizes, and a diverse group of students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Don't step on the seal or it will bring bad luck and failing grades unless you run across campus, within the minute, and rub the Pirate statue's foot.

    Bang for the buck

If you take advantage of all the programs and courses Seton Hall has to offer, get super involved in clubs relating to your majors and interests, and if it applies to your major utilize the proximity you are getting your moneys worth.

    What to do for fun

Explore the town of South Orange, go out with your friends at night, hang out in the cafe or attend on the many events put on nightly by the Student Activity Board. If all else fails and you get bored hope on the first train to New York City (the NJ Transit stops right down the block from campus) and explore the city! There is always something to do there.

    Food and Dining

There are various types of dining and meals plans at Seton Hall including pizza places and a cafe. In side the cafeteria students have numerous opportunities to cook their own food, allowing them to mix it up from day to day and get exactly what they want to eat. There is also a Dunkin Donuts on campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are spacious and clean at Seton Hall. However, floors are very large and it can be difficult to connect with your floor and get a family vibe going. Especially if you live on a floor without a common area.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your program you can really challenge yourself and get a well-rounded education. The John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy is one of the best in the country and definitely a challenging program. The University Honors Program is also challenging, gives you a lot of different reading, and isn't graded in a manner that will ruin your GPA.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved right away, the activity fair at the beginning of the year is huge and tells you everything there is to do on campus. Becoming active in groups right away gives you a chance to quickly get positions in clubs and organizations and that looks great on a resume. And its all about the resume since we are at college to get jobs afterwards, right?

    In three sentences

Seton Hall has a great deal of diversity. It is close to New York City so there are plenty of great internship and hands on opportunities. There is also a lot to do off campus and many students live in the houses surrounding the area.

    Campus Safety

Our campus is a very small community.. so campus safety is excellent. We have security on campus 24/7 and offer escort service to and from your vehicle at night (although you won't need it.) Trust me when I say we don't have any weird things happening here- even at night! However that only applies to on campus- not off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many from academic achievement clubs to sports, to major - based clubs and just clubs for fun. There are more than you can fill on your plate!

Great for these types of students

If you are a student who is a commuter, dormer, or just someone who wants to stand out in the crowd- Seton Hall is the place for you. We have so many activities for all kinds of students but if you want to be more than just another college kid, SHU is the place for you.

    What to do for fun

Ride your bike, or attend one of our many events on campus. We have several fun activities to keep you occupied. There are movie nights on the green, meetings for just about every club, Compass events that host different activities, information sessions, and plus almost every activity offers free food to those who attend! There is so much to do, you won't want to leave campus!

    Food and Dining

We have a large variety to choose from. Whether it be at Dunkin Donuts, our Pirate's Cove/ Cafe, or our Dining Hall we have all kinds of food and access to downtown restaurants (which even give discounts to our students and deliver too.)

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is great. It is a small campus so you have very close access to your dorm. This especially helps when you need a nap between classes.

    Academic Rigor

Our students are always working hard. Whether it is at the library, Dunkin Donuts, or just outside on the grass. We study hard and so does everyone around us!

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and you will excel. Seton Hall ensures that if you are working hard, you will get what you deserve, whether it be scholarships, grades, research opportunities, or advising for your career.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall is an excellent studious, yet fun filled environment for everyone. It offers a great deal of community service activities, academic success clubs, sports, and more. It is a small community that allows its students to stand out unlike most other universities!

    Campus Safety

Seton Hall is a gated University which always makes me feel safe. There are emergency poles all around campus where a campus safety person will come to you and assist you in less than 60 seconds.

    Greek Life

There is Greek life on campus and it is a nice way to meet new people and get involved. Your sorority or fraternity becomes your family and makes being on a campus a little more enjoyable.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many different clubs to choose from and some for every different taste.

Great for these types of students

Any student, there is honestly something here for everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Chapel is beautiful and one of my favorite places on campus. A Seton Hall tradition is to NOT step on the seal! Rumor has it it brings bad like such as not graduating on time!

    Bang for the buck

I am getting my money's worth at Seton Hall. There is always something to do so I am never bored and my classes are interesting so they keep me engaged.

    What to do for fun

I enjoy walking around South Orange or taking part in one of the many activities on campus such as: movies on the green, yoga on the green, zumba in the fitness center, or hanging with friends in the dorm!

    Food and Dining

There are always a lot of selections available and there is something for every taste! The menu constantly changes so you never get sick of the food!

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm (Serra Hall) and everyone in it! My resident assistant, Kim, is always there for me and makes me feel important. It truly has become my new home!

    Academic Rigor

It is challenging and the work load gets heavy at times, but you just have to work through it. Don't allow yourself to go out until all of your work is done to ensure that your grades stay good!

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend future students managing their time to the best of their abilites and use the resources availible. The tutor sessions are great and help keep you up to date in all your classes! Dont forget to study!

    In three sentences

I would rate Seton Hall three out of three stars. It has everything I was looking for and so much more. The teachers, faculty, and staff are great and I enjoy going to class everyday!

    Campus Safety

Campus always seems pretty safe to me. There's always a guard at the gate, or in the residence halls at a late hour. There's emergency buttons all around campus. You also have to swipe in and out of the gates to leave campus. I've never been afraid of being on campus late at night.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is all around campus. There's also a strict no-hazing policy. Freshman are not allowed to join Greek life in their first semesters so I don't know much about it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are endless numbers of clubs and activities on campus. If you like it then there's probably a club for it and if not go create your own! There's traditional clubs and then more interesting clubs. There's different levels of sports. You will find a club that you enjoy being a part of.

Great for these types of students

Students who are interested in a private, Catholic college. It's a smaller school, beautiful campus, everything within walking distance. It's close to NYC/ Close-knit community.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Do NOT step on the seal in the center of the green!!! EVER!!! You could not graduate on time, drop out, have your GPA lowered, or face another academic peril. If you do accidentally step on the seal, you have to run to the pirate statue by the gym and rub its foot. Also, attend basketball games! Show your Pirate Pride!!!

    Bang for the buck

Great college, but a tad expensive. I personally got a $20,000 discount for the Private Education at a Public School price, but I am still paying $20,000+ this year for dorming, food, and tuition.

    What to do for fun

Well I'm a nerd, so my version of fun is going to campus events. There are always so many programs going on so you'll never be bored. On weekends sometimes there's themed events on the green and there is never a dull moment on campus. I also like how for the first forty days, approximately, they gave us a calendar with things to do so we wouldn't have time to be homesick.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is pretty good. There's always a variety and there's actually the tools to let you cook your own food. You can cook in the wok, or make a panini or quesadillas, or make a waffle. If you don't know how the dining service workers will help you. Also, there's the commuter cafeteria which has some fast food if you're tired of the cafeteria. The cove, which is like a sports cafe kind of thing has really good food when you want something different. They have Starbucks drinks there. We also have a Dunkin Donuts on campus which is great. The only issue I have is that all the food places close early, except Dunkin Donuts which can be a real pain if you like to eat later than 7 pm.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are nice, but it's expensive to live on campus. Also, some of the dorms don't have overhead lights. I've also learned that practically anything can be a fire hazard. I understand that there was a fire in the one residence hall a while back, and I commend them for their dedication to safety...but when was the last time pictures on the wall spontaneously combusted?

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging, but the professors are always willing to help. There are so many resources offered to students like Tutors in Residence that are in the dorm common areas, the Writing Center, and Tutors willing to help in any subject. The professors are also willing to help because they have office hours, tutoring, and they often make time so you can go to them when you're free.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely visit the campus! My campus tour officially made me want to attend. The tour guides actually wanted to be here and they made you felt like you belong.

    In three sentences

Going to Seton Hall makes you feel like you're part of one big family. They welcome you in right away; you never feel ostracized for being a freshman because they want to integrate you into the community. The professors also really care about what they are teaching and want you to succeed by offering office hours, tutoring, and other great resources so you will succeed.

    Campus Safety

Considering being a town over from a so called dangerous city I never feel unsafe at school. We're a gated in community and as long as you take the necessary precautions you should do fine. The school offers great things like rides around town and shuttles to ensure the safety of students.

    Greek Life

Greek life isn't for everyone but it's a great way to meet people especially if you're going to school far away from home. There are many fraternity's and sorority's on campus, if you're interested to the research and find one that works for you.

    Clubs and Activities

There's so much to do here! Clubs are offered for just about anything and you're also able to make clubs. There are so many programs going on daily, it's likely you'll become a part of something.

Great for these types of students

There are a lot of small classes at SHU, although some lecture classes are given it's a great school for students who work better in small environments and are very social. It's also hard to walk around campus without seeing someone you know. It's a close knit community and hard to hide! You have to be willing to make friends and be social to get through here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Never step on the seal! It's located in the middle of the campus green and legend has it, stepping on it brings bad luck!

    Bang for the buck

Seton Hall is a costly school but all in all it's a great school to attend. There are so many opportunities made by the administrators of the school to help students and it's an amazing environment to be a part of.

    What to do for fun

There's a train station right down the road from the campus and New York City is such a quick ride away! Also, taking a trip into the village to grab something to eat or shop is always nice!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has a lot of food to offer but it can get boring after awhile. Our commuter cafe has great options like a pizza place and Nathan's along with other choices. With those, we have the Pirate's Cove which is a cafe and nice place to go get something to eat at any time or even to grab a small snack and study.

    Dorm Life

Meeting people and making friends is great with dorming. Programs are constantly being held inside dorm buildings in order to meet staff and other students as well as to get you involved in the building or around campus.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are great and some as in any other college are more demanding than others. It's all about making time and getting the help you need to succeed. Subjects can be extremely difficult but the school has all the necessary tools for you to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of programs and everything the school has to offer. Stay involved! Life at college can get boring if you simply go just for classes. There's so much more to learn in school then what your major offers, you just have to go out and get involved!

    In three sentences

The school's diversity is one of the best things I've experienced in my life. You're really forced to interact and it's a wonderful learning and enriching time. Although only one year has passed, living on campus and being involved in the community has strengthened my values completely.

    Campus Safety

Seton Hall University has security through out the entire premises, and there is always someone circling around on a bike, in the residence halls and in each building. Just to make sure that the safety of students and staff is a top priority. There are 911 machines all around and a plus is that the South orange police department is located on the same street as the campus.

    Greek Life

Seton Hall University has a huge greek life which anyone could get involved with. They host a number of events that someone could go to and watch the sororities and fraternities battle it out with their chants and strolling/stepping.

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of community service activities, clubs and campus life that someone can get involved with. It is time consuming but that could be a good thing to keep ones self occupied.

Great for these types of students

Seton Hall University is a great campus filled will diverse students, so there would be an activity or event suitable for each student and their likings.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a seal of the University in the middle of the large green acre grass section which nobody can step on. It is said that if you step on the seal, then you will not graduate. The only time that someone can step on the seal is after graduation so that is what people usually do the day of graduation.

    Bang for the buck

Seton Hall University is a private school, so of course it is going to be costly but it is definitely worth it. I would rather pay a lot for a valuable education (Seton Hall University) rather than get nothing out of my money.

    What to do for fun

There are so many opportunities on campus to have a good time and to have fun that it would almost be impossible to be bored. Not only is there always someone to hang out with, but there is also other options. Such as; going to a basketball/soccer/baseball game, swimming, going to the gym, participating in activities like karaoke night, and etc. Also the plus about going to Seton Hall is the relatively closeness to New york City. The train station is literally down the street from the campus and it takes about 10 minutes to get to the city so that is a good thing.

    Food and Dining

There is nothing like good home cooking, so of course the campus dining is not as delightful as the cooking one might get at home but it is not horrible. there are the days when the food is better than other days, but the plus side of that is there are so many options to choose from inside AND outside of the dining hall that is would be almost impossible to find at least one thing that is appetizing to eat.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is amazing. It is something that I would definitely recommend because it is an experience that should not be missed out on. Commuting and Dorming are two minor details during a college experience which could make a huge impact on one's life. I personally chose it for the experience and I do not regret one moment of it. The Housing and residence life staff are all welcoming, caring and work hard every day to improve the campus life.

    Academic Rigor

There is no such thing as perfect, whether it be a person, thing or place so there is no way I would say that Seton Hall University's academic rigor is perfect but it definitely comes close. Depending on the major as well as the professor determines the toughness of the courses. No matter how difficult or easy a task/assignment may be there is always a professor, tutor or student willing to help for better understanding of the material.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend getting an education from Seton Hall University because it is a highly prestigious university, with highly trained professionals in their field. The campus is small, yet beautiful and clean, with a lot of friendly staff/faculty members, professors and students. It is almost 100% impossible to not gain at least one friend at the school because of how welcoming everyone is.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall University is a very humble private catholic university with the mission of providing a valuable higher education. Although it is a catholic university, it is filled with a broad diverse range of students from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. For all of the non-catholic students, there is no pressure to convert or practice something that one does not believe in.

    Dorm Life

when you stay in a dorm your roommates or suite mates become your closest friends, it not only builds character through experience but establishes social networks between others.

    Tips for prospective students

For incoming students after my class all i can say is have a great time college is what you make it to be and you have to try really hard to not have a good time at this one.

    In three sentences

Seton hall university offers a diverse environment for many incoming students to broaden their perspective of the real world and the people in it. The food here is absolutely delicious having a nice spread for people of every race and allergy; and that means a lot coming from someone who is lactose intolerant. Campus Safety

SHU security always watches out for its students. University police ride around South Orange in case students outside of the university need assistance or are in danger. Seton Hall has this system called Pirate Alert set up, so if anything bad does happen, whether it is on campus or off campus, every student at the University will receive a text message informing them of the issue, and then receive updates on the situation until it is fixed.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and organizations on campus. No matter what one's interest may be, they will absolutely fit in with a group, if not multiples. These clubs and organizations plan several events which are open to all pirates, and those are always fun.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

In the middle of Seton Hall's campus, there is a seal which students CAN NOT step on. If they do, it is considered bad luck, and it's believed that one will not graduate. If someone does step on the seal, they must run to the Pirate (school mascot) statue, and rub it. It's a little bit extreme, and kind of silly, but we all love it.

    Bang for the buck

The University is overpriced, and the financial aid department is a bit stingy with scholarships and grants. If one is not obtaining any kind of financial aid, it becomes very pricey.

    What to do for fun

There are on/ off campus parties every weekend, concerts, dances, sports events, etc. If one joins a club or organization at SHU, there will always be events to attend.

    Food and Dining

Seton Hall has a wide selection of food choices in the main cafeteria, however, the commuter cafe and the pirates cove are a bit more limited.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are small, and older than the upperclassmen dorms located on campus, but as the years go on, students earn priority points, and those with higher points get first pick on what dorm they'd like to live in the following year.

    Academic Rigor

Seton Hall will provide a solid education. Professors are willing to work with their students, rather than against them, however, it is important for students to be self-sufficient and work hard. One will find out that college is much different than high school, and professors will not sympathize to those who are more focused on partying than doing their work. As long as one's work ethic is strong, and the student is willing to learn, he or she will always excel at SHU.

    Tips for prospective students

Future students will definitely be pleased with their decision to attend Seton Hall. It is important to find a balance between working hard, having fun, and remaining focused on your reason behind attending this university.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall University is located in a rough area, however, upon entrance through the gates of the campus, one would not be able to tell; the campus is beautiful. The staff and students are friendly and always willing to help out fellow Pirates, future Pirates, or anyone visiting the university. It is important for one to take pride in the educational institution he or she chose to attend, and at Seton Hall, Pirate Pride runs deep, making the university that much better.

Seton Hall is a gorgeous, small university that just happens to be located in a bad area. The education is worthwhile and the opportunities are abundant. We really only focus on two sports: basketball and baseball.

    Campus Safety

When you walk on campus, you will feel absolutely safe, no matter what time. They have little stations where you can contact someone in an emergency, a car service to pick you up from places off campus, extreme fire safety regulations and etc.

    Clubs and Activities

They offer a lot of clubs and activities so you'll always have something to choose from that's good for you.

    Bang for the buck

Seton Hall is VERY expensive. But it is the best place to make the most out of your college experience. With great classes, teachers, peer advisers, and students, learning and experiencing is easy. It's not worth the complete $48,000+ but it's worth at least 40.

    What to do for fun

Seton Hall has so many organizations and clubs, you will never be bored. Sometimes they host parties,or game nights just for the students. Each Hall, Boland and Aquinas, has little areas for lounging and hanging out with friends. For example, they have pool tables, big tvs, huge couches, and fooze ball tables.

    Food and Dining

The food is MUCH BETTER than high school cafeteria lunch. The cafeteria has many different thing to choose from. They even have a huge, buffet-style, part of the cafeteria where you can choose to get whatever you want. There's a lot of space, but surely everyone on campus couldn't have lunch together.

    Dorm Life

The rooms at Seton Hall are pretty small. However, with all the activities and people to meet, you will barely be in your dorm room.

    Academic Rigor

They help you to pick out your classes in small groups to assure that ever question you have will be answered. It's VERY easy to make your schedule perfect for you. Even thought ever other upperclassman has registered for classes, there are still great things to choose from with great times.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research on Seton Hall before you decide to apply. They have a lot of great programs, but you want to make sure the programs fits you perfectly. Make sure to apply for as much financial assistance as possible; You WILL need it.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall has a beautiful campus with a lot of nice people. The staff absolutely does their best to make you feel comfortable and glad you're going to school there. The dorms are not so big, but the friends you make and the opportunities you are given make up for it completely; you'll barely be in your room!

    Dorm Life

    Not dorming

    Academic Rigor

I am currently in the online counseling program and one thing I can say is that it is quite different from being on campus. You aren't getting that everyday contact and interactions with peers and professors and that encouragement from peers isnt there. There are benefits to the online program you can post your assignments from virtually anwhere and are not confined to just the classroom. It definitely takes alot of dedication and time management. So far an interesting experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Please be persistent with your professors. Keep open communication so they become familiar with you and know your seriousness about your education.

    In three sentences

Out of 5, I would rate Seton Hall at a 4. Everyone I've come in contact with has been very nice and welcoming. The reason I didn't rate the university at a 5 was that in my experience so far, there has been some difficulty in getting in contact with professors in person. Communication through the phone can have its downfalls, and I feel that in speaking with someone in person, you as well as them, are able to get a full picture of whatever needs to be addressed

Getting involved on campus is something that reallt gives you more things to do which will ensure that you will have more fun. Also many students will go to the village (which depper in the town of south orange) or since the train station is in the village mnay students will go to New York.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

Many of the dorms have recently gone under construction, so they have been updated. Most of them are suite-style dorms, expect Boland (a freshman dorm). Boland is not a suite-style because as a freshman, it may be hard to make new friends easily, so this layout provides many more opportunities for students to meet each other.

    Campus Safety

Seton Hall is not located in the best area. It is close to East Orange and Newark which are very unsafe areas. However, the campus is gated which makes it safe to walk around campus at anytime during the day. Walking off campus is safe during the day, but I would not recommend leaving campus alone at night.

    Greek Life

There is a small Greek life at Seton Hall. During freshman year, almost every one seems to want to join a sorority or fraternity, but they cost a lot of money and pledging is a lot of work; therefore, the Greek life is present, but if you don't join you won't be alone. There are no sorority houses and the fraternity houses are all off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Seton Hall offers many clubs and activities, but very few are vastly participated in.

Great for these types of students

Seton Hall is great for anti-social students, because people are already very cold towards each other and no one does anything together on weekends anyways.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    None

    Bang for the buck

Seton Hall offers a lot of scholarship money. This is often what convinces students to attend the school. The education is definitely worth what you're paying, but if you want to enjoy the social aspect of college, consider spending a little extra money and going to a different school.

    What to do for fun

There is really nothing to do for fun that is unique to Seton Hall. There are parties, but they are off campus in sketchy areas. The school holds some events but very few people actually go. The best part of the year is definitely the concert Seton Hall offers each semester.

    Food and Dining

Given that there is only one true cafe, there are a lot of options, but after a while the food gets sickening. It is very bland and often over or undercooked.

    Dorm Life

The fire safety rules ruin the dorm life. You can not leave doors open or bolted. The set ups of many of the rooms is also awkward and cramped. It feels like you're living in a prison.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are challenging, whereas some are easy A's. This also depends on your major. Science majors have a very heavy workload while other majors may not have as much work.

    Tips for prospective students

When first touring the campus it may seem great, but try to imagine yourself eating the cafeteria food every day or staying on the tiny campus or living in the awkward dorms. Students usually seems to like the campus at first, but after a while of attending Seton Hall, it gets really frustrating and annoying.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall is not the fun college experience students want and expect. You get the same type of feeling by attending Seton Hall that you do when attending high school. You may not dread it, but you still don't enjoy it; it's just something you have to do since you've already paid to go there.

Although NYC is extremely close, I also recommend checking out the local activities in South Orange and also on campus. The university brings multiple attractions from around the United States to entertain the students right on campus. Be open minded and try new things.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is all about what you make of it. Seton Hall provides you with the different options but it is up to the resident to make the most of it. There are the usual hot meals served everyday which can get boring by the end of the week but you can also make your own pasta dishes, omlets, panini's etc.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is the absolute most amazing experience I have ever had. Although some of the rules may seem unnecessary in the dorms, the staff is simply trying to keep every student safe.

    Academic Rigor

At Seton Hall the Professors will challenge their students and that is exactly why the student and the Professor is there, to academically challenge the mind. These challenges are what makes this school such an amazing learning environment and why the students become such amazing professionals.

    Tips for prospective students

If I were to give tips for prospective students, I would say to go into any college with an open mind and make the most of the experience that is given. There are many things to do on campus and around campus, therefore if a student is bored it is their own fault. My greatest advice is to be open minded, whether that is in the classroom, dorm, cafeteria, and surrounding environment.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall is an amazing academic enviornment. This was not originally my top school but I am extremely happy with the decision I made. I am very confident with saying that not only is Seton Hall my college but also my second home.

    What to do for fun

New York City is only a train ride away, and that is a whole lot of fun. Of course, you need money to go into the city so that can be difficult. There are parties in frats off campus but 9 out of 10 times they get busted within the first few hours.

    Food and Dining

Gourmet Dining Services is anything but gourmet. It is nice for the first few weeks, but you often find yourself skipping meals purely because you do not want to taste the food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is decent, but nothing above that. The upperclassmen dorms are average, but nothing at all like those junior and senior dorms you see on other campuses. Freshmen housing is awful because it is always far too hot or far too cold in the building. If you're lucky enough to have A/C and heating in your room, it rarely ever works.

    Academic Rigor

As I was not a law, diplomacy, or nursing student, the classes I took were not rigorous at all. The only challenge I met was being placed in an advanced film course during my second semester, and even at that, the only challenges I met was writing the large paper at the end of the class. My friend who was in the diplomacy program though barely slept at all because she was studying so hard. It all depends on what major you intend on pursuing.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have places you can go on the weekends. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) leaves campus for the weekends and there isn't much to do. I highly recommend staying with a friend's family for the weekend. In terms of classes, they do not support the arts very much at all. This is very much a law, diplomacy, and nursing school. The majors that fall under those categories are fantastic, but anything that falls outside those lines are just mediocre.

    In three sentences

SHU's campus is gorgeous but extremely small, but with a $15 round trip to New York City, it isn't too bad. This can have a home-y feel to it, but it can get extremely irritating and claustrophobic, not only in terms of seeing professors and classmates everywhere you go, but the classes themselves can become stifling. If you are not a law, diplomacy, or nursing student with conservative ideals and views (as they are not very accepting of liberal outlooks), I would not recommend attending Seton Hall University.

    Clubs and Activities

    What to do for fun

JOIN CLUBS! By joining clubs, you give yourself an opportunity to get to know yourself better, and do something you like.

    Food and Dining

I eat halal, and Seton hall did not offer halal food, so usually I had to eat pizza. That was kind of boring, so I wouldn't be able to tell you how the chicken or steak tasted.

    Dorm Life

I dormed during the summer before freshman year for a program. It was fun, and I felt independent. Also, there are less distractions in your dorm. You have your own desk, your own space, and are able to concentrate.

    Academic Rigor

No matter what college you go to, you're going to have to work hard. You get what you put in, so put your best effort forward and you will succeed. The academics are rigorous, but that should not come as a surprise, for it is college.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to work hard, but don't be afraid to go to office hours if you need help. Explore, and join clubs so you can expand your horizons, and meet new people. Remember that managing your time well will allow you to succeed in all aspects of life.

There's never a time where you don't have anything to do at all because there isn't anything to do.

    Food and Dining

Food is essential for any college student. You have plenty of places to eat on campus, but eventually you'll get tired of the food they serve. However, there are tons of places to get food around campus and plenty of restaurants around town.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life will only be as good as you make it. The school is small so it isn't hard to meet new people. The only downside that I think is that the dorms aren't very pleasing to the eyes.

    Academic Rigor

No matter what you major in, studying is going to be the most important thing you're going to be doing. The professors are top notch. Expect to spend long hours in the library doing homework, writing papers, and studying for exams.

    Campus Safety

This school is very big on safety as we are near Newark, NJ. Unfortunately, we still get crazy text and email notifications about people being robbed. Some of them sound scary. Stay in South Orange and never walk alone. Especially at night. You really shouldn't be out in town at night anyways since we are in a somewhat risky area at that point.

    Greek Life

Many are available and must have an actual mission. I believe that they are all required to give back by volunteering and such and must have a purpose. You cannot just party all day and live together.

    Clubs and Activities

Many are available as I stated before. If you are too lazy to look into them, just go to our school and see the many opportunities written in chalk on the sidewalks. From grilled cheese party's to Greek life, it is all outside.

Great for these types of students

Education majors like me, business majors, nursing majors, and many others. It is a good school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a pizza place down in town you can use your Pirate bucks at. There are also many food places, a Rite Aid, and a Pathmark in town for you to access. Down by the train station there is cool stuff like Starbucks, Coldstone, another Dunkin, and a diner. One can also take the train to Hoboken and New York City.

    Bang for the buck

This is a private school so be prepared to pay a lot. However, they give many University scholarships so that may be a reason for you to go here. Financial aid was one of my main reasons of attending but now I am struggling a bit as tuition still is high.

    What to do for fun

I try to be active in extracurricular activities because I want to become a well-rounded student. I am planning on joining a Christian sorority and I know that there are many sororities on campus. Fraternities as well. There are also many clubs and volunteer activities to be a part of. Many different cultural clubs exist.

    Food and Dining

I do not have a meal plan but the commuter cafe and overall school has few options for us. At some point you will get sick of Dunkin Donuts and pizza.

    Dorm Life

    I commute.

    Academic Rigor

This school isn't a pay for your A's kind of school. You have to work hard as in other schools. I really feel like many professors care about what they are teaching and want you to as well. It is not too bad though, you will make it fine as long as you work hard. Don't forget to take a break once in a while though.

    Tips for prospective students

Always use ratemyprofessor.com to find out what the teacher is like before you take a course. Make sure there are a lot of ratings though, you can't base your judgment off of two comments of people who may have been unhappy with their grades or something. I would say stay above a 3.0 rating for a certain teacher. Also, if you are worried you may not be able to handle a certain amount of classes or a certain course, go to the first week of the class or classes and look at the syllabus before you decide to drop or keep a class. If you can handle the workload along with your other courses, you should be good. Don't lose these syllabuses and keep checking them out as you go throughout the semester. Work hard too!

    In three sentences

Seton Hall is a school that has a very comfortable environment. It is not too big and it is easy to get around campus. Everyone seems close and the professors really care about us.

    Campus Safety

We are surrounded by a gate that students have to swipe their ID cards to get in and out. Security is always around and there are buttons about every 20 feet for emergencies. At night you can take public safety off campus or back on if you don't feel comfortable walking.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One tradition is that students cannot step on the seal located in the middle of the green, otherwise they have to run down to the statue of the pirate outside the gym and rub its foot under 30 seconds, in hope that they do not get cursed. People who have stepped on the seal either get really sick during the finals or it is known that they flunk out.

    Bang for the buck

Slightly expense but for business students its worth it.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and activities here that students can partake in. The student activity board (SAB) really hold a lot of events for students to have fun on weekends if they stay.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria food isn't all that good and they don't really have that many healthy options except the salad bar, which can get boring.

    Dorm Life

The RAs and resident coordinators really try to make you feel at home.

    Academic Rigor

For science students, academically it is very hard, but worth it. For business students, it is easier but you still have to put in effort.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not hesitate if you're applying for any honors programs or any other programs, like nursing or PA/PT because there aren't many spots and you might regret it. Also, housing is pretty hard to get, so act quickly and you won't have to worry.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

Seton Hall is a gated community so there's no worries about someone walking onto campus at random. Public safety is always, always available and you can call them at any time. This is not limited to being in danger of physical harm but if you know someone who is in danger of harming themselves you can still call Public Safety and they'll come or you can ask to talk to a therapist on-call. Safety is a big priority on campus, there are emergency buttons in various parts on campus. Also the university has Pirate Alert which will keep you up to date with weather or safety emergencies.

    Clubs and Activities

I have mixed feelings about the clubs. There are many to choose from and you can even make your own. However, they are a bit flaky. Some of the clubs are very active and will have meeting and activities but there are also quite a few that do absolutely nothing and will dissolve within a few meetings. If you are ever really out of luck you can always sign up to volunteer, which always make you feel awesome at the end of the day.

Great for these types of students

Seton Hall is great for people who don't mind being indoors a lot or just are more quiet. Also it is definitely great for those who are highly studious, there are many resources for students like that.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Don't step on the seal, if you do rub the pirate's boot within 30 seconds and you'll be ok.

    Bang for the buck

In my opinion Seton Hall is more expensive than it should be. I have yet to find something special which validates the price. Sometimes I feel like I'm paying Ivy League prices but getting a state school education, which isn't a bad thing, but for what I'm paying I was expecting to get a lot more out of it. Everyone is awarded a $9.000 scholarship from the university, but you'll need a 3.0 to keep it, without it paying for the school becomes a lot more difficult. To me, the cost does not equal anything special, it's just overpriced. Like name brand shoes.

    What to do for fun

There are very few things to do for fun. The most obvious being going to frat parties, but if that's not your scene you'll need to make your own fun. There are some things that go on on campus, in warmer weather there are movies on the green. You can join a club or make your own club. If you live in Boland, you can go to the cellar and watch TV or hang out with some friends. Also if you're sporty you can play volleyball right outside Boland or head to the gym and play basketball or workout, if that's your thing. The fun factor is the same as the food, I'd say. It's what you make of it. There will be times that you get really bored and wonder what the heck there's to do and that's when I'd recommend taking a 10 minutes walk down to the train station and just going somewhere! NYC is about 30 minutes away and if you're ok with wandering a crazy, energetic city then go.

    Food and Dining

The food is very hit and miss. In the dining hall itself there are fewer options than you'd think. Half of the hall are meals prepared for you, which tend to recycle, and the other half is whatever you want to make for yourself such as pasta, wraps, stir fry, or just picking up something small. Also the vegan options are literally a little part with boxed foods. I wouldn't recommend eating here if you are vegan, but there is a salad bar. As well there is a deli. So, there are options, yes. But, it's all about what you're in the mood for. It doesn't taste great, it's edible. My friends and I all agree it isn't bad, but it doesn't taste the best. There's no worries about getting sick from it, but you will get sick of it.

    Dorm Life

I live in Boland Hall. It is a lot smaller than what was shown to me during campus tours. There isn't a lot that goes on in the dorms, aside from programs that the RAs put on to give tips and make some fun for people in the dorms. There are a few interesting ones but the real benefit of going to them is getting priority points to move into a better dorm next year. The walls are pretty thin, too, if you have loud suitemates it will become irritating. Also in the rooming situation I am in, where there are two rooms sharing a single bathroom, things can get tense. Trouble only arises when there are disagreements about the bathroom or people getting annoyed about how long you are in the bathroom. That all depends on the type of people you live with.

    Academic Rigor

I find the classes to be of average difficulty. I'm not feeling challenged but I'm also not bored with every class I am taking. Realistically there are no classes that are going to be too difficult, if you're willing to put in the work and effort, everything will be a breeze. You do need to put in extra effort for certain classes and you should be aware of which classes need this extra work. Any core classes you need to take, however will be extremely boring and dull. They won't require you to go above and beyond, but still do the bare minimum. Also in this university research papers are taken very seriously. Do not start them the night before or even two days before these papers will take a lot of time to perfect and make concise and well-written. Take advantage of the library and, maybe even, the writing center. It's helpful for those who really struggle with English. In general there is tutoring for all subjects, so don't worry about difficult classes there's always someone to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you do your research! Not only on the academic aspect, yes academics are very important but you do want a good, active social life and a decent group of friends to support you. Do look into the social and academic aspects of the school and that'll definitely help you to determine whether it's a good fit for you. Also get on the Facebook page and make some friends before entering the school, as it is difficult to make friends IN CLASS as opposed to outside of class. On a final note, take into account the cost. Please, this university is a lot more pricey than it may seem.

    In three sentences

There are a lot of majors to choose from. Yet, very few things to do on or around campus. It's not what you'd expect at first glance.

    What to do for fun

Seton Hall offers things to do every night. We have free movies on Friday nights, karaoke days, and special guests from comedians and other people. Everything happens at night so for commuters it isnt ideal but for dormers you'll always have something to do.

    Food and Dining

The food is good at first but than it gets old. We have the same things everyday and most people only go to a couple of places on campus. I like to go to south orange to eat because I get sick of eating on campus. Plus the food is so expensive, its not worth eating it all the time.

    Dorm Life

I don't dorm but I have seen the rooms and they are pretty small. I know that if you dorm, freshmen are not allowed to have a car so it gets pretty lonely on campus if you don't have close friends with you.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the major, but for nursing it is difficult. There is not going to be time to hang out and have a social life for the most part. The standards are really high and they need to be maintained every semester.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into when it comes to money. Research from the beginning the costs of everything so that you are prepared to pay when it comes time to it.

    In three sentences

Seton Hall is a great school to consider for the sciences and math, but not for the arts and music. For people that are not financially stable, the school is going to shock you with the fees that they put out there. Staff and students are overall nice people and really want to help.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe but the surrounding area is extremely unsafe. many muggings, shootings and robberies happen in the surrounding area.

    Clubs and Activities

    Not many options.

    Bang for the buck

Soooo expensive but a great school.

    What to do for fun

Frat parties, NYC only 30 minutes away.

    Food and Dining

the dining hall is great but you get sick of the food after eating it everyday multiple times a day for months. But it has lots of options and many options for vegetarian or allergies like me.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great but the housing and residence life policies are not all that fantastic and are verrrrry strict. it feels like a jail sometimes.

    Academic Rigor

Its very difficult but you get a great degree at the end.

    In three sentences

Seton hall is a fantastic school. There are lots of great opportunities for students. The only downside is the area around the school because it is so sketchy and unsafe.
