Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock is well known for it's Physical Therapy and Exercise Science program as well as it's Education program. If you are thinking about going into either one of these fields, Slippery Rock is a great university to attend for these. Slippery Rock is also great for students who are looking to be somewhere we there are not hundreds of thousands of students or even just a few hundred. Slippery Rock has the perfect balance and amount of students. There are many clubs and activities get involved in on campus along with many sororities and fraternities to join. These are all great ways to meet new people and they look great on resumes. This is a great school to attend for students who are looking to meet new people and make great friends while getting a 'Rock Solid Education' in the major of their choice.

    Tips for prospective students

When you're trying to think of things to buy for your dorm at college, look at the list of suggested items that the school sends in the mail. Also, bed, bath, and beyond has a whole section on their website dedicated to things to buy for your dorm life at college. Don't be afraid that you're bringing too much because you don't want to end up not bringing enough. Cleaning supplies, closet organizers, office organizers, plastic storage containers, and a desk lamp are all helpful items. You also want to be sure to bring posters, and pictures of your family, friends, and pets from home to liven up your room. Before moving in, creating a Facebook account if you don't already have one is extremely helpful. After doing so, join groups designated to Slippery Rock. Also, look up other students who are going to be freshmen and add them as friends. This allows you to find people living on your floor or people in your classes and talk to them before you actually meet them. This is also a great way to talk to your roommate if you didn't know them beforehand and keep in touch with what the other person is bringing to the room.

    Bang for the buck

At Slippery Rock all of your money is well spent. You can select the meal plan of your choice which allows you to have as many meals a week as what you will think you'll need. You will also be given anywhere from $50 or $100 in flex money depending on your meal plan that you can use at either dining halls, the library, the union, or Watson Hall for a quick drink or bite to eat if you don't want to waste a meal. The money that you spend on tuition is as well spent in the classroom as you make it. There are vast opportunities for students who need help with classes from private tutors in the library to meeting times scheduled with your professors. You also get your money's worth out of the new suite's that Slippery Rock has to offer. You can have anywhere from one to three other roommates and each room is equipped with bed, desk, bookcase, dresser, a bathroom, and a kitchen including a refrigerator and microwave. You get a very good education here for the amount of money that you spend compared to other schools that you pay more for your education.

    Am enjoying being here

When you are a freshman, the school separates students into learning clusters for the first semester. You will have your FYRST (First Year Students) seminar classes and most of your other classes with the same people in your cluster. This allows you to see the people in your classes more often and provides a great opportunity to make new friends. Living in the dorms is also great because the CA's (Community Assistants) do their best to have floor meetings and fun activities with everyone on the floor allowing you to get to know the people on your floor better and make friendships. The suite's are extremely comfortable and you can choose the style of room that fits you best, whether that means having your own bedroom, or rooming with three other people. You also have your own personal bathroom and kitchen in your dorm room for convenience.

    Am learning a lot

All of the professors that I have had while attending Slippery Rock University have done their best to help me in any way while in their class. They are all willing to meet with students who have questions on the material inside or outside of class. Classes are not all the typical sit down-straight lecture. Most teachers here try to keep their students focused and learning while creating an enjoyable environment. The student to teacher ratio is also very good. The classrooms are no bigger than twenty-five or thirty students per teacher so that each student gets the same amount of attention.

Great for these types of students

Everywhere you go, you seem to know someone! This campus is great for students looking to have the best college career they could possibly imagine. From making friends to making A's, you will love Slippery Rock University!

    Tips for prospective students

We get a lot of rain here at Slippery Rock, so bring an umbrella. Girls, do not buy the cute umbrellas, they do not hold up! Instead buy an umbrella that will be sturdy and withstand the wind and rain our region offers. Before choosing classes, talk to people living around you to hear about professors that they have had and what professors may suit your needs as a student.

    Bang for the buck

The new dorms are absolutely worth every penny. You are able to have your own room or if you wish to share you can! The beauty about them is that you do not have to share a bathroom with more than 1 other person. This makes it a lot more convenient to plan schedules. The meal plans are also very flexible for the needs of the students. The campus offers flex dollars, meal swipes, and Rock Dollars. Rock Dollars are also accepted at our local Giant Eagle (grocery store) and the restaurants on Main Street.

    Am enjoying being here

Our campus offers some of the best events around. If you live on campus be sure to check out the events for ARHS (Association for Residence Hall Students), just recently they offered a free bowling and laser tag trip at no expense to the students! Another organization on campus is UPB (University Programming Board), which hosts many events on campus. They bring in speakers, singers, fun events, and lots of free activities to participate in. Every weekend you can look forward to a movie viewing in Watson Hall and the ATS building.

    Am learning a lot

Upon coming here in the fall of 2009, I never anticipated learning as much as I am now. One nice thing about this school is that all of your courses relate in some way. I found myself learning the same concepts, from different perspectives which will help me when I become a teacher.

Great for these types of students

I looked into slippery rock because its close to home, they have a learning support program for students to get help for their learning disabilitys, there aren't that many colleges that have these type of programs and I myself have a learning disability, I happen to know someone who went here and they said their expeirence from the learning support staff was excellent.

    Tips for prospective students

I'm not a current student at slippery rock yet, but i will be in the fall of 2010 once i transfer there I can tell you more, from what i hear they have great major programs, clubs and organizations that you can get involved in, a small enjoyable town that there's places you can enjoy and other great adventures.

    Will enjoy being here

Great for these types of students

Its great for any type of student but particularly; Exercise Science majors and Education Majors

    Tips for prospective students

Get your application in early and do not stress out about school. Do what makes you happy in life. If you don't like your major you do not have to keep it. Slippery Rock understands that and makes it very easy to switch to another major.

    Bang for the buck

A great school for little cost. School costs can really creep up on you but Slippery Rock offers several opportunities to make money. They have so many on campus jobs and financial help.

    Will enjoy being here

The school has so much to offer. There are so many ways to get involved and I can not wait to get my foot in the door. I will meet so many people from around the world and even have some friends from home. Everyone is so friendly! There is even a tradition that every passing person says hello!

    Will learn a lot

This school is accredited and known for its Education program. The teachers are highly ranked and reviewed very well on ratemyprofessor.com. Everyone that I have talked to about classes say that they are hard but worth it because of how much you take from the classes. I feel like I will have a great classroom experience while attending Slippery Rock.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students wanting to go to a large school with a small school feel. It's also great for students interested in greek life.

    Tips for prospective students

When choosing classes make sure you either talk to other people which teacher is the best for the subject you would be taking or use ratemyprofessor.com. Slippery Rock gets alot of rain so be prepared at all times, even when the day may start out sunny. Get involved on campus somehow! Whether it be a club or intramural sports getting involved is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. When packing your things to move into the dorm DO NOT OVERPACK. Freshman definitely have a tendancy to bring everything they own, girls especially. You'll find out you do not need as much as you think you do.

    Bang for the buck

Your money is well spent at Slippery Rock. They have different meal plans to fit every person's needs. They also have options for flex that can be spent anywhere on campus and a system called Rock Dollars which is like a pre paid credit card. It can be used anywhere on campus and also at select places in the actual town. Including the Subway, McDonalds, Giant Eagle, Tattoo places and many other shops in town.

    Am enjoying being here

Freshman are allowed to have cars on campus but, honestly, there is no need. There is always something to do on campus, and if you don't feel like staying on campus there is plenty of things to do within walking distance. I love being on campus at Slippery Rock. I only live half an hour from the university itself but i rarely go home on weekends. Another great aspect is that Slippery Rock has learning clusters for the freshman class. The learning cluster means that you have most of your classes with the same group of about 30 students in your major. This is an awesome way to get to know your peers and it gives Slippery Rock a small school feel. They also have living learning communities you can apply to be in. These living learning communities make it so you can live on the same floor with other students in your major. It is an awesome aspect of Slippery Rock because if you don't understand your homework you've got a floor full of people that can help you!

    Am learning a lot

I absolutely love Slippery Rock. The transition from high school to college is hard on anyone but the teachers at Slippery Rock really make the transition easy. Every teacher I've had has really gone the extra mile. If I'm not understanding something in class I go to their office hours and every professor so far has sat me down and explained the topic to me. The curriculum for my major is tough and very demanding but the teachers really do make a difference between doing well and understanding something and not understanding something. The class sizes are also between 25 and 35 students, which allows the teachers to give each student equal attention.

Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock is so diverse that any student will fit right in!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in campus activities. I have gone to Martin Luther King - A Day On Not A Day Off, participated in Intramural Sports, Relay For Life and The Breast Cancer Walk, just to name a few. My friends and I have made Relay For Life an annual event to get together to participate. Once you get involved you will be opened to more opportunities and experiences, so get involved. However, don't forget to work on school too.

    Bang for the buck

This school not only has terrific professors, great food, and many activities, but for a great price they are improving their campus by adding a new student union and new housing buildings for their students.

    Am enjoying being here

I have had a great experience here at The Rock. It is in a small little town and they hold a lot of activities for students, any where from concerts featuring any one from Drake to Chris Young, to The Kaleidoscope Festival and free weekend movies, that are recent movies from the theater, before they are released on DVD. You also get to meet many more students. I have met one of my very best friends up here my freshman year and she introduced me to my future husband.

    Am learning a lot

Every professor I have had has been amazing. They actually get to know you, you are not just a number like at Pen State. They help you to try and succeed. They are great professors. I have had no problems with how they teach. In my major The professors have been in the field and know exactly what you need to know for the career I am going into.

Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock University is great for students who want to get a good education and to also have a good time. Slippery Rock is always buzzing with activities and sporting events. The student body is very outgoing, so making friends will not be difficult. Slippery Rock is good for any type of student who is willing to put their best foot forward in bettering their life.

    Tips for prospective students

The first tip I would give is to do a campus visit. Make sure you like the campus setting and make sure it's not too far from home, or its far enough. The second tip I would give is to get a meal plan. This will save you money in the long run and you won't have to pay for grocery's every other week. The third tip I would give is to work over the summer. Financial Aid helps but having extra money as a cushion is always smart. The fourth tip I would give is to stay a night with someone in the dorms. Make sure you like that sort of living situation.

    Bang for the buck

Slippery Rock University is definitely a lot of bang for the buck. There is always something going on somewhere, whether it be an activity in the quad, like camel riding, or a movie playing in the ATS building. Most of the activities are free and if there is a charge, for example, a concert, it's usually $5 dollars. Food can be paid for with your financial aid but doesn't run too expensive if you're paying out of pocket. There are also meal plans available, which end up saving you some money. Sporting events are exciting to watch and are free. I'd say you get a lot more out of Slippery Rock then it gets out of you.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is really nice. There is almost always something going on in the Quad. Movies often play at the ATS building, which is nice to attend after a long day of classes. The students here are outgoing, which makes being away from home a little easier. There are places to grab breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack within the quad. The faculty and staff are also very outgoing and are willing to help you whenever you need it.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are always thinking of your best interest. They offer to stay beyond their office hours in order to help you understand the content of their class. The curriculum is not too extensive and there are tutors available if you fall behind. The professors are knowledgeable of their course and provide you with as much information as they can.

It's not only a cheap school as far as colleges go, but also one of the nicest that I've seen. Not to mention you get a good education.

Although nervous at first about making friends, I found it really easy and it is so much more fun then high school. There are plenty of activities to get involved it. There's everything from major related clubs to a paranormal club. Don't let the small town fool you. There are plenty of ways to be social and there's always something going on.

    Academic Rigor

All the professors I've had so far actually want you to learn the subject. For example, my dance teacher not only wanted us to learn what we were learning in class but also experience what the dance world is like and attend performances. All the professors are very helpful if you ask.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are able to get some college credit courses while in high school, do some sincere community service. if you want to save money wait til may or july to see about getting a new lap top or computer. if they want to offer you to buy microsoft office tell them no thanks. this is why go to microsoft's website and go to their student specials or student section and you can download the full office suite for the special student price also check with your school to see if they have a deal on the office suite, i got mine for a licensed copy from slippery rock university where i am attending classes. if you happen to have a job find out if they offer a scholarship or a grant so ask your managers and research online for the company. bug the heck out of your advisor at your high school, your teachers and anyone else you can think of, you just might get lucky, so be ready to come to sru and get a life experience and make friends for life. good luck

    Bang for the buck

this is a very good value for the money, you get a quality education and the possibilities to go on to have a successful life. your time here is what you make of it and the networking possibilities is some of the best, if you take advantage of it.

    Will enjoy being here

The campus is beautiful there is a relaxed feeling when you walk there even the staff smiles about being being there and they are very upbeat, I have seen this at very, very few places of employment and they are sincere you can just hear it in their voices, even now when I have questions they are very helpful and not afraid to tell you no and that is good because it helps to make a better decision or make it easier to figure out what you need to do

    Academic Rigor

it is a highly rated school and with high reviews and the fact you are having people from around the world wanting to come to the rock should also say something about the school and the opportunities it provides, the rock is proud of their students and their successes. for those interested in the business degrees, sru is in the process of starting an mba program in the next couple of years.

Students who want to be well-rounded. Students that want to get the most out of college... really anyone!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you can really picture yourself at whatever school you're thinking about attending. Don't worry about who you know; you'll meet plenty of new people. Try to visit a variety of schools before making your choice. You may not know what you are looking for until you find it.

    Bang for the buck

As a state school, the cost to attend is lower than most universities; however, Slippery Rock still offers a great education, plenty to do, and prepares students for their futures.

    Will enjoy being here

I like the quiet, but Slippery Rock offers things for anyone. There's a gym, plenty of places to eat, a good deal of campus events, and shopping nearby in Grove City.

    Academic Rigor

Slippery Rock offers smaller classes all of which are taught by professors. The school offers LLC's (living communities) based on major or various things like being in the honors program. This allows students to work together, study together, and get the best education possible. There are also a lot of clubs and organizations as well as classes to teach about leadership and anything a student may be interested in. Because Slippery Rock is a liberal arts school, students get to learn about a lot more than just their major.

    Bang for the buck

overall, this school is worth the money you pay to go here.

    What to do for fun

there are always events going on on campus. mostly people tend to go to the gym or just hang out with friends. there are a few shopping malls within a 20 minute drive, which tend to be big places to hang out on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

the food here is ok, but not gourmet. they do try to change it up by offering a few new dishes every day in the one dining hall. we have several other small places to eat on campus as well that have all recently been renovated and are quite nice. there is a large variety of food available on campus.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are nice, well at least the new residence halls are. there are many types of room layouts available. some rooms have separate bedrooms, living rooms, private bathrooms. it all depends on what you are looking for and how much you can spend. there is definitely a room for every one's needs here.

    Academic Rigor

i feel as though most of my classes are not too difficult, although there are a few that do require a lot of work. mostly, if scheduled correctly, the work load is not bad, and most of the classes are just challenging enough to hold interest without being overly stressful.

    Tips for prospective students

while everyone says that this is a typical place to go for students in the area, i feel that there is more to it than that. the campus is very inviting and well worth the walk to get to classes. also, these are some of the nicest dorm rooms and on campus apartments that i have ever seen! be sure to check out this school before you make your decision.

    Greek Life

i'm not involved in greek life but i know that many of the fraternities and sororities do alot of service for the community.

    Clubs and Activities

there are tons of clubs to get involved in and the university does a good job of hosting events on campus. there are movie nights and for incoming freshman a welcome weekend that is really fun.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the brewery in town is one of the best resteraunts around and if you come to slippery rock you have to go there. also the tradition of rubbing the rock is unique. there are rocks scattered across campus and many of them represent different things. the rock in the center of the rock is thought of as a good luck charm and if you rub it, you will have good luck.

    Bang for the buck

you get what you put into it. the books are way to expensive and the dorms are really expensive too. the money you pay to use the gym is worth it and the academics are good for the money also.

    What to do for fun

it is easy to get involved. there are a lot of clubs and organizations on campus and most of the people are really friendly. the gym is also really nice and there are great work outs to do. (ex, yoga, zumba, kick boxing, etc)

    Food and Dining

there is only one cafeteria that accepts meal swipes and it gets old fast. the food is sometimes cold and overall not the best. the cafes are nice and there is even a cafe in one of the dorm buildings. i wish that more of the places where food was served would accept meal swipes because it costs a lot to always use flex at the other dining halls.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are really nice and brand new. it is really nice to have a bathroom in your dorm room. the older traditional dorms are less expensive than the newer ones. the only thing that i don't like about the new dorms is the lack of interaction between residents. people tend to stay in their rooms so it makes it a bit harder to communicate and interact with neighbors.

    Academic Rigor

most of the classes are pretty easy and there is a lot of opportunities for help to be given. the work load is not to heavy and assignments are given in advance. tests are usually announced a week before any exam so you have a lot of time to study. the professors are usually really good on getting work back to you in a good time and let you know if there is anything that needs to be improved.

    Tips for prospective students

i would tell incoming freshman to be prepared for rain and also to really try to get involved. there is a lot to do if you get involved. also stay up on all your work. don't get behind and stay focused on school. also don't be afraid to ask for help, many people are willing to help if you are willing to ask.

    In three sentences

the campus is really nice and it is easy to make friends. the education program is great and most of the professors are really well trained. overall it is a nice college. when you are a freshman you can be placed into learning clusters which makes it a lot easier to meet people in your major. the transportation is also nice. they have large buses, one that stays on campus and one that drives off campus. it makes getting around easier.

    Bang for the buck

i think the dorms are extremely nice and if something is broken, they will come fix it for you. and the education is quality as well, many majors to choose from, minors too

    What to do for fun

there are so many things to do for fun here. in the residential halls they have game rooms that have a pool table and air hockey or things like that. and then there are always people to hang out with and parties to go to (if you're into that).

    Food and Dining

i personally think we have really good dining options here. but of course lots of people complain as well. i've never had any problems with my dining.

    Dorm Life

i live in a residential building so i have a bathroom i share with just my roommate, which is really nice. only problem living here instead of traditional halls is that some people are less outgoing, not as many people leave their doors open and just welcome you in their room. but other than that i love the dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Rub the Rock!!! On our campus we have big boulders that when we walk past each one we Rub the Rock for good luck! Green and White Friday. Every Friday a lot of our students wear green and white to show our school spirit.

    What to do for fun

For fun, I like to go to the ARC which is our gym and work out. I also like to hang out with my friends outside campus on nice days. We like to go to games and cheer on our teams, and get a nice tan. On weekends everyone seems to just hang out all together sometimes having cookouts.

    Food and Dining

Food is hit or miss at this school. Some days I love whats for lunch and other days I settle for a salad. I love the fact that we have so many choices, and can have ice cream every day if we want. You can chose from a wrap, salad, pasta, pizza, whatever the daily special is, or my favorite, grilled cheese. The dining area is really nice at Slippery Rock, but it also fills up fast so making new friends is easy at meal time if you want a seat.

    Dorm Life

I met some of my best friends living in the dorms. I was a little upset that I was going to be living in the dorms since I transferred in my second year of college, but I am so happy I stayed in the dorms. Sharing a shower and bathroom with people I didn't know at first was a little weird to me, but I got used to it after the first week of school. Living in the dorms force's you to meet new people, and some of them will become your friends for life.

    Academic Rigor

Although Slippery Rock is pretty laid back, we have a zero tolerance for under age drinking. Slippery Rock is a dry campus, and that's the way we keep it. If you are caught drinking and you are not of age, you could potentially kick out of the University. Our campus also keeps a close eye on our grades, and if we are fail a certain about of classes we are put on academic probation.

    Tips for prospective students

Get ready for cold weather! Make sure to keep up with your school work. Never be afraid to ask for help from a professor. No question is a dumb question, so ask it! Have fun and meet new people. DO NOT OVERPACK!!!! I made this mistake coming into school, and wish I would have brought less!

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock University is a very welcoming University with a beautiful campus. The professors are always willing to help a student in need and help them stay on the right track. The students at Slippery Rock are some of nicest people I have ever met!

Also, do not let the bookstore be the first place to look for textbooks, look online because it will save you money in the long run!

Incidents do happen here, especially off campus. I do believe that our campus police, though, are very effective. I've had to call them before and they were a great help. Also, there are escort services for if you are afraid late at night about walking across campus.

    Greek Life

I was in a sorority and it wasn't for me, but my boyfriend is in a fraternity and I love all the guys in it. The greeks here definitely know how to party, but they are more subdued than you'll find at other schools. Also, you may find some snobby sorority girls here, but not a snobby sorority.

    Clubs and Activities

There really is a club for everything here. Some are more active than others, but there are many niche crowds that are represented.

Great for these types of students

Exercise buffs, aspiring teachers, students who want their professors to remember their names, people interested in other cultures, and creative people - be it in art, writing, or making videos.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have urban gamers who enjoy Nerf gun fights in our Quad, the occasional farm animal or bouncy house in the middle of campus, and giant round rocks you're supposed to touch for good luck but no one really does.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely a good price for the quality of education you'll receive, along with the amenities you'll have, too.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of activities lower classmen can enjoy (we are near Rock Falls and an outlet mall that is great for shopping), but the most popular activity for those over 21 would be on Tuesday night, when the two main bars in town both host their pitcher nights. Good bands, karaoke, and fun all night!

    Food and Dining

Off campus dining is pretty good. On campus can be a bit expensive and the quality varies.

    Dorm Life

The new dorms are gorgeous and good for people who consider privacy their most important goal. However, the old dorms are much more social, and although you have to share bathrooms there is much more of a community within them.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the major and the professor, but there are many well-respected programs at this school. Undoubtedly, though, you'll feel at some point that one or two mandatory classes for your major are useless.

    Tips for prospective students

Join an organization, especially one that is related to your major because then you are more likely to stick with it. Also, the Greek system is respected here, and joining a sorority/fraternity or an honorary fraternity related to your major could give you an opportunity to make a lot of friends.

    In three sentences

It is a beautiful campus, but famous for snow and rain. It is also a small campus, but full of different activities to join. The school is a community where students and faculty mix, and everyone has an opportunity to succeed at something.

Great for these types of students

    Bang for the buck

If I could choose to go to any college in the state of Pennsylvania, it would be Slippery Rock. Tuition is just below nine grand a year but it's very affordable when state/federal grants and scholarships are taken into account.

    What to do for fun

There's an incredible amount of extra-curricular clubs, sports, and activities in which to get involved. There is always something going on.

    Food and Dining

They serve just about anything under the sun and they do it well. I have no complaints for their variety and quality of food as well as the numerous facilities that contain it all.

    Dorm Life

The new residence halls are furnished with everything you need if you were to stay there. They're well kept and several resources like desks, laptops, study areas, microwaves, refrigerators, and other useful items are very close to, if not in, the room.

    Academic Rigor

As far as I have experienced, Slippery Rock is a great college to study. The professors tend to be very down-to-earth and helpful while also demanding excellent performance in every endeavor, both inside and outside the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

Look long and hard at every university before you choose which one to attend. Ask yourself the question, Will I enjoy my studies here? Am I comfortable on campus?

    Greek Life

In my opinion we have the best Greek Life of all colleges. I have friends who are in fraternities and in sororities at other institutions and they have said they do not co-mingle well together. At Slippery Rock, for the most part all the fraternities get along and same with the sororities, I mean we have friendly rivalries but we don't let it affect the community.

    Clubs and Activities

They have any type of club you could ever what to be involved in. They have clubs from the Paranormal Activity Club to Hunting and Fishing Club. They have concerts in the fall and spring with well known artists as well as other performers and shows throughout the year. If you do not find a club that fits you, find a group of people with the same interests and you can make your own club.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition does not meet the high standards of how the university is run. For a reasonable price, the school offers great opportunities for all its students.

    What to do for fun

Intramural sports, clubs, school run activities, concerts, greek life.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are amazing. The traditional ones give you a big sense of community while the newer dorms make you feel like you're living in luxury compared to other colleges.

    Tips for prospective students

All students should get involved! They have so many clubs and intramural sports teams to join. I recommend joining a fraternity or sorority as well because that really helps you meet tons of different people and create lifetime friendships and networks. All students should live in the dorms at least for one year which helps them get involved. Also they should take advantage of all the different support services Slippery Rock has to offer such as tutoring, a writing center and career services.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is the perfect combination of an academic and social atmosphere needed in a university. It gives me the feeling of being in college but also the feeling of home needed to make me comfortable for my transition from high school to college. The professors are very considerate and strive to help their students succeed in all their endeavors.

I'd say its worth the money. Its not in a huge city that makes it impossible to find quiet and relax but at the same time is has enough around campus to make it a desired place to attend. There's always something to do and plenty of people to make friends with

    What to do for fun

There are always intramural sports and events happening on campus. a few sweet concerts every year along with a few festivals and movies make for a pretty exciting time.

Great for these types of students

SRU's education program is fantastic. They really work with their students. The opportunities for student teaching in different areas like Mexico, Las Vegas, or Ireland are amazing.

    Bang for the buck

I wouldn't change my experience at SRU for anything. I'm still paying off my loans but I treasure every minute and really miss it sometimes.

    What to do for fun

Get involved on campus with something that you enjoy. There's a bowling alley nearby (at least there used to be) and the Grove City Outlets are only about 15 minutes away! Being with friends was always the most fun for me.

    Food and Dining

Boozel and Fluh have stepped up their game since I graduated and the inside is newly redone with modern decor. The food had always been good. Sunday Brunch is the best.

    Dorm Life

Well, when I was at SRU, we didn't have the fancy suites that they have now but I thought our little cinder block room was the best thing ever. Having that close knit community was an experience I'll never forget. I met some of my best friends in the dorms. I'm sure now that it's luxury, it's just as fun!

    Academic Rigor

My undergraduate classes were tough but not impossible if you put in the effort. You need to go to class and try. My graduate classes I find to be harder-obviously and time management is still something that you need to tackle when you are planning your course load.

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED! Anyone can say there's nothing to do at school, but those are the same people who aren't involved in anything. I got involved with the University Programming Board (UPB) when I was a sophomore. I was a committee member and I helped make signs and advertise for upcoming events. I got to meet a lot of people on campus and also got to meet some of the performers that we brought to the school. Eventually I became a Vice President for UPB and was booking the talent to come to the university. It was an awesome experience. I def recommend getting involved with some sort of student life. You will love the experience and all the people you will meet.

    What to do for fun

Students create their own fun and the University creates many activities so no one gets bored.

    Food and Dining

The food is acceptable, except there's only two places that accept meal swipes on campus. Say goodbye to your flex.

    Dorm Life

There is plenty of place to live, but i highly suggest the traditional dorms. It will be worth it, I swear!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the traditional dorms! Even though it seems more acceptable to pay more and get your own bathrooms, it's not as much fun. In the traditional dorms, you find more community and more friends. It's worth not having your own bathroom when you find a great amount of friendship here.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock may seem like a University that doesn't seem to offer much, especially if you have seen that lack of downtown activities it possess, but it's far from that. One tradition on campus is to write on the sidewalks with chalk about up coming events and the like.

    Bang for the buck

The school tuition is relatively cheap compared to other schools. Going here helps keep debt minimal, which is a big problem in today's society.

    What to do for fun

FUN. It's a small town, so you have to make your own fun. Get involved with things and make friends. There is a movie theater on campus that has weekly showings on the weekends. There's the outlets and a nearby movie theater. You have to look for things.

    Food and Dining

The food is average. It's nothing to call home about (unless you get sick!). It's college food; you get used to it. Some of the other dining halls are actually pretty decent.

    Dorm Life

Campus is pretty safe so far. I don't feel unsafe walking around campus, and I don't feel like anything bad would happen. Even at night, I feel very safe walking around campus.

    Bang for the buck

I love it here. So far it is well worth the money. I have made lots of friends so far, and everyone is really friendly. I'm loving my classes and the dorms, and it's actually cheaper as an out of state student than a lot of places I was looking at in state.

    What to do for fun

There's not too much to do off of campus. The nearest movie theatre is about a half an hour away in Butler. Grove City Outlets are about 15-20 minutes away, and the nearest Wal-Mart is about 20 minutes away. There's a Hookah Bar right off campus if you're of age, and it's a pretty town to go explore, but other than that, there's not much to do.

    Food and Dining

There's really only 3 big dining places on campus, Boozel, Rocky's and Weisenfluh. Out of these, Boozel is the only one who takes your meal plan. It's not bad food, you just get tired of it easily. Rocky's is delicious, but expensive and they only take flex. I haven't been to the Fluh, but they only take flex as well, and they're on the total opposite end of campus from me.

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm. I live in F, which is pretty far out of the way, but the building itself is really nice, and so are the rest of the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

My first semester here has been pretty easy, but I've heard next semester for me as an AT major is going to be pretty hard. It's nothing you shouldn't be able to handle.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

Plenty of sports, clubs, sororities and fraternities. The Prime Outlet malls are about 15 minutes off campus.

    Food and Dining

Multiple dinning halls, one of them an all you can eat. Plenty of places around campus to stop and grab food or coffee, although somewhat pricey. The student union has great food places such as Quaker Steak and Lube wings and Starbucks coffee.

    Dorm Life

I was a commuter, so I never lived in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what you pursue, your major classes will be your most rigorous classes. Professors of your liberal studies and electives know its not your major subject and will teach in that manner.

    Tips for prospective students

For new students at Slippery Rock University, I would suggest joining a club, sport, or organization as soon as possible. If you begin something when you start school, it makes it easier to adjust, learn and meet people. If you don't like it, you still have time to find a group you will like. It may be intimidating to take on more of a work load but not regrettable.

    In three sentences

slippery Rock University is very high-energy college campus. There is a lot of involvement in extra-curricular activities which provided me with plenty of opportunities to meet people. The town and college itself is small, personable yet still entertaining for active students.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely think that Slippery Rock gets a huge bang for the buck. My major, Safety Management, has SO many great opportunities and it is so much that a public school offers. Also, I am doing Study Abroad to Ireland next year, which is also very reasonably priced.

    What to do for fun

This is where Slippery Rock lacks for people who cannot entertain themselves. I personally love that it is in the middle of nowhere because I can find things to do. The school tries to have different activities on campus too.

    Food and Dining

I cannot really say that this is great at all. There is absolutely no choices for people who try to eat healthy, like me, and when they do try to have good wholesome meat, it's all fatty. Nice try Boozel, but I doubt I'll get a meal plan next year.

    Dorm Life

I absolutely love where I live in the Residence Halls, however if you do not get along with your roommates, well then you're pretty much out of luck for the year. They say they have quiet hours but no one really enforces them which is troublesome for me because I am a person who needs their sleep. Overall, the facility itself is amazing.

    Academic Rigor

I can honestly say that it depends on the class and the professor. I found myself doing okay-ish in classes that I didn't really have an interest in which had a mediocre professor, but fantastic in a class I was interested in with a fantastic professor. I expect future semesters to be better.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely consider Slippery Rock as one of your top choices. This is a very real college meaning that what they tell you they have at orientation, they most definitely have and it is not all talk! You would not regret attending SRU ever.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock University is a great place for anyone who wants many different opportunities. The amazing academic programs that they have to offer blew me away when I first started attending SRU. I have made wonderful friends and found my home at Slippery Rock University.

    Greek Life

Greek life isn't all that popular to get into. Probably less than 25% of people join a frat or sorority, but they throw a lot of mixers that are good to get to know people at.

There are a lot of clubs and activities on campus. There are so many leadership positions to take advantage of with these clubs. One of the great things about clubs and activities is that most of them provide great opportunities such as traveling and learning more about type of club. Bang for the buck

Slippery Rock isn't too expensive compared to other colleges and universities. Slippery Rock has a lot to offer to students through different programs and tools. It is a bang for the buck if you take advantage of everything that is offered to you.

    What to do for fun

Slippery Rock is a place that sometimes you have to make your own fun. A lot of time everyone just hangs out together. Sporting events are always fun to go to. It's fun to go to Grove City Outlets with your friends too.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of places to eat on campus. There are 3 cafeterias, 1 to-go meal, a Starbucks (that takes flex, a part of the meal plan), and Quaker steak and lube. Its great because the food in all of these places are great and the variety of places makes sure you don't get tired of eating at one place all the time.

    Dorm Life

The residential suites (newest dorms) are absolutely awesome. A little pricey, but most dorm rooms have two rooms, a private bathroom, and a living room with a little miniature kitchen (refrigerator, sink, microwave). House council usually has a lot of activities to do every week. One of the best things about the dorms is the open door policy, mostly everyone leaves their doors open when they are in their rooms. It is a great way to meet new people and friends.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor is going to be up to you, you make your own schedule and put in the effort in class. Professors present the information and, most of them, grade pretty fairly. However, most profs put the responsibility in your hands to further your knowledge. Even if you don't put effort in, you will be learning so much.

    Tips for prospective students

One of the most important things to do is visit the campus. As much as anyone tells you, ultimately its up to you and how you feel when you are on the campus. Make a list of what you want in a school, and see if Slippery Rock fits your list.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is a great medium sized school that is small enough to always see familiar faces, but big enough so that you have the opportunity to meet many new people. There are so many opportunities to get involved in campus life. The dorms and food here are the real selling points though.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is amazing I love living on campus

    Campus Safety

The campus police are always patrolling the campus and surrounding areas, with the SR Borough police also patrolling. There are few incidents of any kind.

    Greek Life

There are about 30 Fraternities and Sororities combined, many of which offer pledging with no hazing and offer great opportunities and brotherhood/sisterhood to those who join.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and organizations, roughly 100. If you can think of it, Slippery Rock usually has it.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want: ~8,000 student body, medium to small campus, generally flat campus, plenty of options for all students, whether it be clubs/organizations, exercise facilities, dining options, and both high and low end of the income spectrum.

    Bang for the buck

This is a state school, so be prepared to foot a bill for ~$15,000 a year, but while it's cheaper than Ivy League colleges, the professors still treat it like an Ivy League school. This is where you get the most bang for the buck, the best education for the money.

    What to do for fun

There is the proverbial drinking that will happen nearly every weekend, but there are also tons of organizations and clubs that you can get involved in and can take up as much time as you want. The Student Center also offers free movie screenings nearly every weekend. There are also plenty of people playing pick-up games in the Rec center.

    Food and Dining

The main dining hall is Boozel, and it's an all-you-can-eat buffet type, and while normally it's alright, it isn't all that great. On the other hand, the new Student Center and Weisenfluh dining halls are awesome. They offer many different choices for food including different price points and different styles of food.

    Dorm Life

The newest Suites are absolutely awesome. The are brand new and they offer the biggest rooms on campus. However, the smaller, older dorms offer cheaper solutions, smaller rooms, but better community. It comes down to Community vs. Room quality.

    Academic Rigor

The professors definitely want you to come out of this college having earned your degree to the fullest. So you should expect that once you get up to the 300, 400, and even 500 level classes, that you will be working a lot on the material in those classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a major you love. If you come in expecting to go into a major because it offers a lucrative career, then find another reason to be in that major. Many students have changed majors because they find the course load to be too difficult or to be something that they didn't expect.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is a great campus, it's big, but not as big as Ivy League schools. Majors and their course load depend on which major chosen, but expect to put in at least another hour or two of work outside of class for every credit hour being taken that semester. 15 credits being taken equates to 15 to 30 hours outside the classroom of extra work, typically.

Beauiful campus, fun activites, and great small-meduim sized campus, you really get to know the poeple in your classes and in your major.

    Campus Safety

They have emergency buttons stationed all around campus, the police are constantly patrolling the roads and you always feel safe, even if you're coming here for the first time.

    Clubs and Activities

Slippery Rock offers a variety of different clubs to suit the needs of every student on campus. I'm currently involved in the Early Childhood Education club, Musical Theater Society, the Urban Gaming Society, Rock Out, and the Honors Program, and I'm planning on getting more involved next year. They really have a lot of things to occupy your time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No matter what they tell you, don't rub the rock. Apparently people have peed on it. Other than that, celebrate Green and White Fridays. Go to the football games. We're big on our traditions here.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not eligible for any loans because my household income is just over the required limit, but this really is a great place to get an education. I may be out of state and only have a few options to pay for my education, but I would still choose this place if I had a second chance.

    What to do for fun

Because it's a small town, there isn't very much to do here. There are several restaurants and small shops on Main Street right next to the campus which are fun to look around, and there's a bowling alley about a mile from the school, but that's all you'll find within walking distance. Try going to Butler (10 minute drive) or even Pittsburgh (1 hour drive) if you're looking for something to do.

    Food and Dining

Boozel, the main dining hall on campus, offers food that takes some getting used to, but overall it's pretty okay. Rocky's diner in the Student Center is better, but that requires Flex that runs out if you use it up too much.

    Dorm Life

I live in the Honors LLC in Watson Hall, and I would absolutely recommend it to any prospective students that are eligible. I have made some of my closest friends here on this floor.

    Academic Rigor

The classes vary depending on your major requirements, but most classes are challenging enough to keep you on your toes. The professors really know what they are talking about, and they want to help you learn.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid about making friends here. I was terrified in the days leading up to me going to college, but I made friends within the first hour of moving in. Also, try to get a job on campus if you can. The work study can really help in paying your bills.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is a fantastic school in Western PA known for it's Business and Education programs, but offers a wide variety of tracks for every major. The school has a charming, small-town feel that makes it easy to make life-long friends and enjoy your time on campus. I would absolutely recommend Slippery Rock to any incoming students.
