Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock is well known for it's Physical Therapy and Exercise Science program as well as it's Education program. If you are thinking about going into either one of these fields, Slippery Rock is a great university to attend for these. Slippery Rock is also great for students who are looking to be somewhere we there are not hundreds of thousands of students or even just a few hundred. Slippery Rock has the perfect balance and amount of students. There are many clubs and activities get involved in on campus along with many sororities and fraternities to join. These are all great ways to meet new people and they look great on resumes. This is a great school to attend for students who are looking to meet new people and make great friends while getting a 'Rock Solid Education' in the major of their choice.

    Tips for prospective students

When you're trying to think of things to buy for your dorm at college, look at the list of suggested items that the school sends in the mail. Also, bed, bath, and beyond has a whole section on their website dedicated to things to buy for your dorm life at college. Don't be afraid that you're bringing too much because you don't want to end up not bringing enough. Cleaning supplies, closet organizers, office organizers, plastic storage containers, and a desk lamp are all helpful items. You also want to be sure to bring posters, and pictures of your family, friends, and pets from home to liven up your room. Before moving in, creating a Facebook account if you don't already have one is extremely helpful. After doing so, join groups designated to Slippery Rock. Also, look up other students who are going to be freshmen and add them as friends. This allows you to find people living on your floor or people in your classes and talk to them before you actually meet them. This is also a great way to talk to your roommate if you didn't know them beforehand and keep in touch with what the other person is bringing to the room.

    Bang for the buck

At Slippery Rock all of your money is well spent. You can select the meal plan of your choice which allows you to have as many meals a week as what you will think you'll need. You will also be given anywhere from $50 or $100 in flex money depending on your meal plan that you can use at either dining halls, the library, the union, or Watson Hall for a quick drink or bite to eat if you don't want to waste a meal. The money that you spend on tuition is as well spent in the classroom as you make it. There are vast opportunities for students who need help with classes from private tutors in the library to meeting times scheduled with your professors. You also get your money's worth out of the new suite's that Slippery Rock has to offer. You can have anywhere from one to three other roommates and each room is equipped with bed, desk, bookcase, dresser, a bathroom, and a kitchen including a refrigerator and microwave. You get a very good education here for the amount of money that you spend compared to other schools that you pay more for your education.

    Am enjoying being here

When you are a freshman, the school separates students into learning clusters for the first semester. You will have your FYRST (First Year Students) seminar classes and most of your other classes with the same people in your cluster. This allows you to see the people in your classes more often and provides a great opportunity to make new friends. Living in the dorms is also great because the CA's (Community Assistants) do their best to have floor meetings and fun activities with everyone on the floor allowing you to get to know the people on your floor better and make friendships. The suite's are extremely comfortable and you can choose the style of room that fits you best, whether that means having your own bedroom, or rooming with three other people. You also have your own personal bathroom and kitchen in your dorm room for convenience.

    Am learning a lot

All of the professors that I have had while attending Slippery Rock University have done their best to help me in any way while in their class. They are all willing to meet with students who have questions on the material inside or outside of class. Classes are not all the typical sit down-straight lecture. Most teachers here try to keep their students focused and learning while creating an enjoyable environment. The student to teacher ratio is also very good. The classrooms are no bigger than twenty-five or thirty students per teacher so that each student gets the same amount of attention.

Great for these types of students

Everywhere you go, you seem to know someone! This campus is great for students looking to have the best college career they could possibly imagine. From making friends to making A's, you will love Slippery Rock University!

    Tips for prospective students

We get a lot of rain here at Slippery Rock, so bring an umbrella. Girls, do not buy the cute umbrellas, they do not hold up! Instead buy an umbrella that will be sturdy and withstand the wind and rain our region offers. Before choosing classes, talk to people living around you to hear about professors that they have had and what professors may suit your needs as a student.

    Bang for the buck

The new dorms are absolutely worth every penny. You are able to have your own room or if you wish to share you can! The beauty about them is that you do not have to share a bathroom with more than 1 other person. This makes it a lot more convenient to plan schedules. The meal plans are also very flexible for the needs of the students. The campus offers flex dollars, meal swipes, and Rock Dollars. Rock Dollars are also accepted at our local Giant Eagle (grocery store) and the restaurants on Main Street.

    Am enjoying being here

Our campus offers some of the best events around. If you live on campus be sure to check out the events for ARHS (Association for Residence Hall Students), just recently they offered a free bowling and laser tag trip at no expense to the students! Another organization on campus is UPB (University Programming Board), which hosts many events on campus. They bring in speakers, singers, fun events, and lots of free activities to participate in. Every weekend you can look forward to a movie viewing in Watson Hall and the ATS building.

    Am learning a lot

Upon coming here in the fall of 2009, I never anticipated learning as much as I am now. One nice thing about this school is that all of your courses relate in some way. I found myself learning the same concepts, from different perspectives which will help me when I become a teacher.

Great for these types of students

I looked into slippery rock because its close to home, they have a learning support program for students to get help for their learning disabilitys, there aren't that many colleges that have these type of programs and I myself have a learning disability, I happen to know someone who went here and they said their expeirence from the learning support staff was excellent.

    Tips for prospective students

I'm not a current student at slippery rock yet, but i will be in the fall of 2010 once i transfer there I can tell you more, from what i hear they have great major programs, clubs and organizations that you can get involved in, a small enjoyable town that there's places you can enjoy and other great adventures.

    Will enjoy being here

I enjoyed visiting slippery rock and plan on transferring there, when i went to the transfer visit day, everyone said that people don't sit in there rooms all day, they go out - go to class, hang out with friends, have a fun time, which i love doing, I can't wait to transfer.

Great for these types of students

Its great for any type of student but particularly; Exercise Science majors and Education Majors

    Tips for prospective students

Get your application in early and do not stress out about school. Do what makes you happy in life. If you don't like your major you do not have to keep it. Slippery Rock understands that and makes it very easy to switch to another major.

    Bang for the buck

A great school for little cost. School costs can really creep up on you but Slippery Rock offers several opportunities to make money. They have so many on campus jobs and financial help.

    Will enjoy being here

The school has so much to offer. There are so many ways to get involved and I can not wait to get my foot in the door. I will meet so many people from around the world and even have some friends from home. Everyone is so friendly! There is even a tradition that every passing person says hello!

    Will learn a lot

This school is accredited and known for its Education program. The teachers are highly ranked and reviewed very well on ratemyprofessor.com. Everyone that I have talked to about classes say that they are hard but worth it because of how much you take from the classes. I feel like I will have a great classroom experience while attending Slippery Rock.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students wanting to go to a large school with a small school feel. It's also great for students interested in greek life.

    Tips for prospective students

When choosing classes make sure you either talk to other people which teacher is the best for the subject you would be taking or use ratemyprofessor.com. Slippery Rock gets alot of rain so be prepared at all times, even when the day may start out sunny. Get involved on campus somehow! Whether it be a club or intramural sports getting involved is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. When packing your things to move into the dorm DO NOT OVERPACK. Freshman definitely have a tendancy to bring everything they own, girls especially. You'll find out you do not need as much as you think you do.

    Bang for the buck

Your money is well spent at Slippery Rock. They have different meal plans to fit every person's needs. They also have options for flex that can be spent anywhere on campus and a system called Rock Dollars which is like a pre paid credit card. It can be used anywhere on campus and also at select places in the actual town. Including the Subway, McDonalds, Giant Eagle, Tattoo places and many other shops in town.

    Am enjoying being here

Freshman are allowed to have cars on campus but, honestly, there is no need. There is always something to do on campus, and if you don't feel like staying on campus there is plenty of things to do within walking distance. I love being on campus at Slippery Rock. I only live half an hour from the university itself but i rarely go home on weekends. Another great aspect is that Slippery Rock has learning clusters for the freshman class. The learning cluster means that you have most of your classes with the same group of about 30 students in your major. This is an awesome way to get to know your peers and it gives Slippery Rock a small school feel. They also have living learning communities you can apply to be in. These living learning communities make it so you can live on the same floor with other students in your major. It is an awesome aspect of Slippery Rock because if you don't understand your homework you've got a floor full of people that can help you!

    Am learning a lot

I absolutely love Slippery Rock. The transition from high school to college is hard on anyone but the teachers at Slippery Rock really make the transition easy. Every teacher I've had has really gone the extra mile. If I'm not understanding something in class I go to their office hours and every professor so far has sat me down and explained the topic to me. The curriculum for my major is tough and very demanding but the teachers really do make a difference between doing well and understanding something and not understanding something. The class sizes are also between 25 and 35 students, which allows the teachers to give each student equal attention.

    Outdoorsy, anyone

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you talk to students who actually go there when you visit.

    Bang for the buck

It's not only a cheap school as far as colleges go, but also one of the nicest that I've seen. Not to mention you get a good education.

    Am enjoying being here

Although nervous at first about making friends, I found it really easy and it is so much more fun then high school. There are plenty of activities to get involved it. There's everything from major related clubs to a paranormal club. Don't let the small town fool you. There are plenty of ways to be social and there's always something going on.

    Academic Rigor

All the professors I've had so far actually want you to learn the subject. For example, my dance teacher not only wanted us to learn what we were learning in class but also experience what the dance world is like and attend performances. All the professors are very helpful if you ask.

Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock is so diverse that any student will fit right in!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in campus activities. I have gone to Martin Luther King - A Day On Not A Day Off, participated in Intramural Sports, Relay For Life and The Breast Cancer Walk, just to name a few. My friends and I have made Relay For Life an annual event to get together to participate. Once you get involved you will be opened to more opportunities and experiences, so get involved. However, don't forget to work on school too.

    Bang for the buck

This school not only has terrific professors, great food, and many activities, but for a great price they are improving their campus by adding a new student union and new housing buildings for their students.

    Am enjoying being here

I have had a great experience here at The Rock. It is in a small little town and they hold a lot of activities for students, any where from concerts featuring any one from Drake to Chris Young, to The Kaleidoscope Festival and free weekend movies, that are recent movies from the theater, before they are released on DVD. You also get to meet many more students. I have met one of my very best friends up here my freshman year and she introduced me to my future husband.

    Am learning a lot

Every professor I have had has been amazing. They actually get to know you, you are not just a number like at Pen State. They help you to try and succeed. They are great professors. I have had no problems with how they teach. In my major The professors have been in the field and know exactly what you need to know for the career I am going into.

Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock University is great for students who want to get a good education and to also have a good time. Slippery Rock is always buzzing with activities and sporting events. The student body is very outgoing, so making friends will not be difficult. Slippery Rock is good for any type of student who is willing to put their best foot forward in bettering their life.

    Tips for prospective students

The first tip I would give is to do a campus visit. Make sure you like the campus setting and make sure it's not too far from home, or its far enough. The second tip I would give is to get a meal plan. This will save you money in the long run and you won't have to pay for grocery's every other week. The third tip I would give is to work over the summer. Financial Aid helps but having extra money as a cushion is always smart. The fourth tip I would give is to stay a night with someone in the dorms. Make sure you like that sort of living situation.

    Bang for the buck

Slippery Rock University is definitely a lot of bang for the buck. There is always something going on somewhere, whether it be an activity in the quad, like camel riding, or a movie playing in the ATS building. Most of the activities are free and if there is a charge, for example, a concert, it's usually $5 dollars. Food can be paid for with your financial aid but doesn't run too expensive if you're paying out of pocket. There are also meal plans available, which end up saving you some money. Sporting events are exciting to watch and are free. I'd say you get a lot more out of Slippery Rock then it gets out of you.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is really nice. There is almost always something going on in the Quad. Movies often play at the ATS building, which is nice to attend after a long day of classes. The students here are outgoing, which makes being away from home a little easier. There are places to grab breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack within the quad. The faculty and staff are also very outgoing and are willing to help you whenever you need it.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are always thinking of your best interest. They offer to stay beyond their office hours in order to help you understand the content of their class. The curriculum is not too extensive and there are tutors available if you fall behind. The professors are knowledgeable of their course and provide you with as much information as they can.

    Campus Safety

You will always feel safe on campus. There are many blue emergency call lights if something were to happen. The campus police are always on duty and it is a well lit campus.

    Greek Life

During the first weeks of the semester the Greeks will have meetings for new interested students or students who just want to find out what the Greek life is like. There are many sororities and fraternities to choose from.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities range greatly. For every hobby there is a club for it. Students are welcome to even start their own clubs.

Great for these types of students

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Slippery Rock has a green and white friday every friday where students wear green and white. Also, during finals week there is breakfast at 11:00 pm at the dining hall where students can relax, dance, and have fun before the stressful week begins.

    Bang for the buck

Slippery Rock is a cheaper college and you will most certainly get your moneys worth. The professors are awesome, facilities great, and the times you will have on campus are priceless.

    What to do for fun

There is every club and organization you could imagine on campus. No matter what one likes to do for fun there is a club for it. There are also a lot of guest speakers, concerts, and social activities available.

    Food and Dining

There are many places to eat around campus including Boozel Dining Hall, Rockey's Grill, and new places are being built for the 2012 spring semester. All food is very good.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at Slippery Rock are great! Students will either choose from the older dorms or the newly built ones. Dorm life will allow students to meet new people and adjust to living on ones own.

    Academic Rigor

Professors at Slippery Rock challenge students to open their mind and take classes to explore what they want to do in the future. Grades are based mainly on exams and some projects. If a student is willing to put in the effort then they will succeed academically.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be afraid to explore clubs and organizations and leave your comfort zone. Get involved and make a difference on campus! Meet new people and make new connections.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock gives students an opportunity to further their education intellectually and creatively. This university gives students the information and help so that they can continue to figure out the path that is best for them. Slippery Rock University is the right choice for a college if you are willing to work hard, strive for your goals, and find a major that fits your personality, mind set, and passion for life.

Students who want to be well-rounded. Students that want to get the most out of college... really anyone!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you can really picture yourself at whatever school you're thinking about attending. Don't worry about who you know; you'll meet plenty of new people. Try to visit a variety of schools before making your choice. You may not know what you are looking for until you find it.

    Bang for the buck

As a state school, the cost to attend is lower than most universities; however, Slippery Rock still offers a great education, plenty to do, and prepares students for their futures.

    Will enjoy being here

I like the quiet, but Slippery Rock offers things for anyone. There's a gym, plenty of places to eat, a good deal of campus events, and shopping nearby in Grove City.

    Academic Rigor

Slippery Rock offers smaller classes all of which are taught by professors. The school offers LLC's (living communities) based on major or various things like being in the honors program. This allows students to work together, study together, and get the best education possible. There are also a lot of clubs and organizations as well as classes to teach about leadership and anything a student may be interested in. Because Slippery Rock is a liberal arts school, students get to learn about a lot more than just their major.

    Food and Dining

there are many different ares to eat on campus. the food is delicious, and a new dining hall was just opened this semester.

    Dorm Life

i currently live in the traditional dorms, and although they are older they are a lot cheaper than the new dorms. i may have to use a traditional restroom instead of having my own bathroom and shower in my room, but i have met many people and i love living in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

    Campus Safety

They have emergency buttons stationed all around campus, the police are constantly patrolling the roads and you always feel safe, even if you're coming here for the first time.

    Clubs and Activities

Slippery Rock offers a variety of different clubs to suit the needs of every student on campus. I'm currently involved in the Early Childhood Education club, Musical Theater Society, the Urban Gaming Society, Rock Out, and the Honors Program, and I'm planning on getting more involved next year. They really have a lot of things to occupy your time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No matter what they tell you, don't rub the rock. Apparently people have peed on it. Other than that, celebrate Green and White Fridays. Go to the football games. We're big on our traditions here.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not eligible for any loans because my household income is just over the required limit, but this really is a great place to get an education. I may be out of state and only have a few options to pay for my education, but I would still choose this place if I had a second chance.

    What to do for fun

Because it's a small town, there isn't very much to do here. There are several restaurants and small shops on Main Street right next to the campus which are fun to look around, and there's a bowling alley about a mile from the school, but that's all you'll find within walking distance. Try going to Butler (10 minute drive) or even Pittsburgh (1 hour drive) if you're looking for something to do.

    Food and Dining

Boozel, the main dining hall on campus, offers food that takes some getting used to, but overall it's pretty okay. Rocky's diner in the Student Center is better, but that requires Flex that runs out if you use it up too much.

    Dorm Life

I live in the Honors LLC in Watson Hall, and I would absolutely recommend it to any prospective students that are eligible. I have made some of my closest friends here on this floor.

    Academic Rigor

The classes vary depending on your major requirements, but most classes are challenging enough to keep you on your toes. The professors really know what they are talking about, and they want to help you learn.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid about making friends here. I was terrified in the days leading up to me going to college, but I made friends within the first hour of moving in. Also, try to get a job on campus if you can. The work study can really help in paying your bills.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is a fantastic school in Western PA known for it's Business and Education programs, but offers a wide variety of tracks for every major. The school has a charming, small-town feel that makes it easy to make life-long friends and enjoy your time on campus. I would absolutely recommend Slippery Rock to any incoming students.

    Campus Safety

The campus is safe. There are blue safety lights that students can press and campus police will come to help them. We all have the number for campus police and can call them if we are scared to walk back to our dorms alone. The dorms are also secure because only people that live there can open the doors and anyone bringing a person that doesn't live there has to sign them in.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It is believed that a few of the buildings are haunted. However, the ghosts are protecting those who are in the buildings. The ghost in our traditional dorm building protects the people that live there. The ghost of the theater protects the shows that are performed there. We have the tradition of rubbing the rocks that our near the quad because they bring luck. There is a specific rock for each year. The freshman rock is a slab without any shape to it. The sophomore rock is more jagged but taking on a round shape. The junior rock is less jagged and talking on an even round shape. The senior rock is smooth and polished. The rocks symbolize our journey here.

    What to do for fun

My friends and I have movie nights in the dorms. We have had dinners using the full kitchen area. We have also gone into town and enjoyed food from the local restaurants. The students government association showed a new movie every weekend in our student center. Lastly, many students attend the sporting events to cheer on our athletes.

    Food and Dining

We have many options on and off campus for food. Unfortunately the dining hall does not always have the best food. The off campus options are close fast food places and local restaurants.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very nice. Each is equipped with a full kitchen and each floor has their own washer and dryer. The rooms are nice and their are rooms around to provide neighbors. The buildings are secure and make everyone feel safe.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the classes are hard, but easy when you work hard. The professors expect the best out of their students. Many professors are amazing, but some seem to not care about their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Take you classes seriously and work hard. Talk with other students and gain perspective on your future professors. Join clubs and meet people who share your interests.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock University allows people from all over the country to feel at home and bond with their fellow students. This university provides a positive environment for learning. There are many activities and sports for students to join.

    Bang for the buck

overall, this school is worth the money you pay to go here.

    What to do for fun

there are always events going on on campus. mostly people tend to go to the gym or just hang out with friends. there are a few shopping malls within a 20 minute drive, which tend to be big places to hang out on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

the food here is ok, but not gourmet. they do try to change it up by offering a few new dishes every day in the one dining hall. we have several other small places to eat on campus as well that have all recently been renovated and are quite nice. there is a large variety of food available on campus.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are nice, well at least the new residence halls are. there are many types of room layouts available. some rooms have separate bedrooms, living rooms, private bathrooms. it all depends on what you are looking for and how much you can spend. there is definitely a room for every one's needs here.

    Academic Rigor

i feel as though most of my classes are not too difficult, although there are a few that do require a lot of work. mostly, if scheduled correctly, the work load is not bad, and most of the classes are just challenging enough to hold interest without being overly stressful.

    Tips for prospective students

while everyone says that this is a typical place to go for students in the area, i feel that there is more to it than that. the campus is very inviting and well worth the walk to get to classes. also, these are some of the nicest dorm rooms and on campus apartments that i have ever seen! be sure to check out this school before you make your decision.

    In three sentences

slippery rock university is a great school overall. the campus layout is awesome, although if you don't like to walk, i would highly suggest checking out the campus before applying. if you are looking for a more rural setting rather than a city feel, this is it!

    Clubs and Activities

there are tons of clubs to get involved in and the university does a good job of hosting events on campus. there are movie nights and for incoming freshman a welcome weekend that is really fun.

the brewery in town is one of the best resteraunts around and if you come to slippery rock you have to go there. also the tradition of rubbing the rock is unique. there are rocks scattered across campus and many of them represent different things. the rock in the center of the rock is thought of as a good luck charm and if you rub it, you will have good luck.

    Bang for the buck

you get what you put into it. the books are way to expensive and the dorms are really expensive too. the money you pay to use the gym is worth it and the academics are good for the money also.

    What to do for fun

it is easy to get involved. there are a lot of clubs and organizations on campus and most of the people are really friendly. the gym is also really nice and there are great work outs to do. (ex, yoga, zumba, kick boxing, etc)

    Food and Dining

there is only one cafeteria that accepts meal swipes and it gets old fast. the food is sometimes cold and overall not the best. the cafes are nice and there is even a cafe in one of the dorm buildings. i wish that more of the places where food was served would accept meal swipes because it costs a lot to always use flex at the other dining halls.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are really nice and brand new. it is really nice to have a bathroom in your dorm room. the older traditional dorms are less expensive than the newer ones. the only thing that i don't like about the new dorms is the lack of interaction between residents. people tend to stay in their rooms so it makes it a bit harder to communicate and interact with neighbors.

    Academic Rigor

most of the classes are pretty easy and there is a lot of opportunities for help to be given. the work load is not to heavy and assignments are given in advance. tests are usually announced a week before any exam so you have a lot of time to study. the professors are usually really good on getting work back to you in a good time and let you know if there is anything that needs to be improved.

    Tips for prospective students

i would tell incoming freshman to be prepared for rain and also to really try to get involved. there is a lot to do if you get involved. also stay up on all your work. don't get behind and stay focused on school. also don't be afraid to ask for help, many people are willing to help if you are willing to ask.

    In three sentences

the campus is really nice and it is easy to make friends. the education program is great and most of the professors are really well trained. overall it is a nice college. when you are a freshman you can be placed into learning clusters which makes it a lot easier to meet people in your major. the transportation is also nice. they have large buses, one that stays on campus and one that drives off campus. it makes getting around easier.

    Bang for the buck

i think the dorms are extremely nice and if something is broken, they will come fix it for you. and the education is quality as well, many majors to choose from, minors too

    What to do for fun

there are so many things to do for fun here. in the residential halls they have game rooms that have a pool table and air hockey or things like that. and then there are always people to hang out with and parties to go to (if you're into that).

    Food and Dining

i personally think we have really good dining options here. but of course lots of people complain as well. i've never had any problems with my dining.

    Dorm Life

i live in a residential building so i have a bathroom i share with just my roommate, which is really nice. only problem living here instead of traditional halls is that some people are less outgoing, not as many people leave their doors open and just welcome you in their room. but other than that i love the dorm.

Rub the Rock!!! On our campus we have big boulders that when we walk past each one we Rub the Rock for good luck! Green and White Friday. Every Friday a lot of our students wear green and white to show our school spirit.

    What to do for fun

For fun, I like to go to the ARC which is our gym and work out. I also like to hang out with my friends outside campus on nice days. We like to go to games and cheer on our teams, and get a nice tan. On weekends everyone seems to just hang out all together sometimes having cookouts.

    Food and Dining

Food is hit or miss at this school. Some days I love whats for lunch and other days I settle for a salad. I love the fact that we have so many choices, and can have ice cream every day if we want. You can chose from a wrap, salad, pasta, pizza, whatever the daily special is, or my favorite, grilled cheese. The dining area is really nice at Slippery Rock, but it also fills up fast so making new friends is easy at meal time if you want a seat.

    Dorm Life

I met some of my best friends living in the dorms. I was a little upset that I was going to be living in the dorms since I transferred in my second year of college, but I am so happy I stayed in the dorms. Sharing a shower and bathroom with people I didn't know at first was a little weird to me, but I got used to it after the first week of school. Living in the dorms force's you to meet new people, and some of them will become your friends for life.

    Academic Rigor

Although Slippery Rock is pretty laid back, we have a zero tolerance for under age drinking. Slippery Rock is a dry campus, and that's the way we keep it. If you are caught drinking and you are not of age, you could potentially kick out of the University. Our campus also keeps a close eye on our grades, and if we are fail a certain about of classes we are put on academic probation.

    Tips for prospective students

Get ready for cold weather! Make sure to keep up with your school work. Never be afraid to ask for help from a professor. No question is a dumb question, so ask it! Have fun and meet new people. DO NOT OVERPACK!!!! I made this mistake coming into school, and wish I would have brought less!

It will not put you behind since it will allow for you to take required courses as well as give you an idea about what areas you like and dislike to help in declaring a major. Also, do not let the bookstore be the first place to look for textbooks, look online because it will save you money in the long run!

    Campus Safety

Incidents do happen here, especially off campus. I do believe that our campus police, though, are very effective. I've had to call them before and they were a great help. Also, there are escort services for if you are afraid late at night about walking across campus.

    Greek Life

I was in a sorority and it wasn't for me, but my boyfriend is in a fraternity and I love all the guys in it. The greeks here definitely know how to party, but they are more subdued than you'll find at other schools. Also, you may find some snobby sorority girls here, but not a snobby sorority.

    Clubs and Activities

There really is a club for everything here. Some are more active than others, but there are many niche crowds that are represented.

Great for these types of students

Exercise buffs, aspiring teachers, students who want their professors to remember their names, people interested in other cultures, and creative people - be it in art, writing, or making videos.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have urban gamers who enjoy Nerf gun fights in our Quad, the occasional farm animal or bouncy house in the middle of campus, and giant round rocks you're supposed to touch for good luck but no one really does.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely a good price for the quality of education you'll receive, along with the amenities you'll have, too.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of activities lower classmen can enjoy (we are near Rock Falls and an outlet mall that is great for shopping), but the most popular activity for those over 21 would be on Tuesday night, when the two main bars in town both host their pitcher nights. Good bands, karaoke, and fun all night!

    Food and Dining

Off campus dining is pretty good. On campus can be a bit expensive and the quality varies.

    Dorm Life

The new dorms are gorgeous and good for people who consider privacy their most important goal. However, the old dorms are much more social, and although you have to share bathrooms there is much more of a community within them.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the major and the professor, but there are many well-respected programs at this school. Undoubtedly, though, you'll feel at some point that one or two mandatory classes for your major are useless.

    Tips for prospective students

Join an organization, especially one that is related to your major because then you are more likely to stick with it. Also, the Greek system is respected here, and joining a sorority/fraternity or an honorary fraternity related to your major could give you an opportunity to make a lot of friends.

    In three sentences

It is a beautiful campus, but famous for snow and rain. It is also a small campus, but full of different activities to join. The school is a community where students and faculty mix, and everyone has an opportunity to succeed at something.

There's an incredible amount of extra-curricular clubs, sports, and activities in which to get involved. There is always something going on.

    Food and Dining

They serve just about anything under the sun and they do it well. I have no complaints for their variety and quality of food as well as the numerous facilities that contain it all.

    Dorm Life

The new residence halls are furnished with everything you need if you were to stay there. They're well kept and several resources like desks, laptops, study areas, microwaves, refrigerators, and other useful items are very close to, if not in, the room.

    Academic Rigor

As far as I have experienced, Slippery Rock is a great college to study. The professors tend to be very down-to-earth and helpful while also demanding excellent performance in every endeavor, both inside and outside the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

Look long and hard at every university before you choose which one to attend. Ask yourself the question, Will I enjoy my studies here? Am I comfortable on campus?

    In three sentences

It has a beautiful campus and an excellent atmosphere at that. It's a state school so it's not too expensive to handle. The variety of majors in addition to the graduate schools in the surrounding area are big advantages.

    Campus Safety

They have lighted pathways, police on call 24/7, blue light call boxes on campus, all dorms have special swipe cards so only residents of that building can have entry, and they have an emergency text alert system to send out urgent messages if needed to the whole student and faculty body.

    Greek Life

In my opinion we have the best Greek Life of all colleges. I have friends who are in fraternities and in sororities at other institutions and they have said they do not co-mingle well together. At Slippery Rock, for the most part all the fraternities get along and same with the sororities, I mean we have friendly rivalries but we don't let it affect the community.

    Clubs and Activities

They have any type of club you could ever what to be involved in. They have clubs from the Paranormal Activity Club to Hunting and Fishing Club. They have concerts in the fall and spring with well known artists as well as other performers and shows throughout the year. If you do not find a club that fits you, find a group of people with the same interests and you can make your own club.

Great for these types of students

This school caters to all students. I am a jock and into sports and my best guy friend is more into the performing arts and we have both found our place at Slippery Rock.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Rub the Rock where if you are going for a test or have a big game you should rub the rock for good luck. Hello Tradition where you say hello to everyone you see and with a smile. Green and White Fridays where you wear green and white on Fridays to show school spirit.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition does not meet the high standards of how the university is run. For a reasonable price, the school offers great opportunities for all its students.

    What to do for fun

Intramural sports, clubs, school run activities, concerts, greek life.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are amazing. The traditional ones give you a big sense of community while the newer dorms make you feel like you're living in luxury compared to other colleges.

    Tips for prospective students

All students should get involved! They have so many clubs and intramural sports teams to join. I recommend joining a fraternity or sorority as well because that really helps you meet tons of different people and create lifetime friendships and networks. All students should live in the dorms at least for one year which helps them get involved. Also they should take advantage of all the different support services Slippery Rock has to offer such as tutoring, a writing center and career services.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is the perfect combination of an academic and social atmosphere needed in a university. It gives me the feeling of being in college but also the feeling of home needed to make me comfortable for my transition from high school to college. The professors are very considerate and strive to help their students succeed in all their endeavors.

    Bang for the buck

I wouldn't change my experience at SRU for anything. I'm still paying off my loans but I treasure every minute and really miss it sometimes.

    What to do for fun

Get involved on campus with something that you enjoy. There's a bowling alley nearby (at least there used to be) and the Grove City Outlets are only about 15 minutes away! Being with friends was always the most fun for me.

    Food and Dining

Boozel and Fluh have stepped up their game since I graduated and the inside is newly redone with modern decor. The food had always been good. Sunday Brunch is the best.

    Dorm Life

Well, when I was at SRU, we didn't have the fancy suites that they have now but I thought our little cinder block room was the best thing ever. Having that close knit community was an experience I'll never forget. I met some of my best friends in the dorms. I'm sure now that it's luxury, it's just as fun!

    Academic Rigor

My undergraduate classes were tough but not impossible if you put in the effort. You need to go to class and try. My graduate classes I find to be harder-obviously and time management is still something that you need to tackle when you are planning your course load.

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED! Anyone can say there's nothing to do at school, but those are the same people who aren't involved in anything. I got involved with the University Programming Board (UPB) when I was a sophomore. I was a committee member and I helped make signs and advertise for upcoming events. I got to meet a lot of people on campus and also got to meet some of the performers that we brought to the school. Eventually I became a Vice President for UPB and was booking the talent to come to the university. It was an awesome experience. I def recommend getting involved with some sort of student life. You will love the experience and all the people you will meet.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the traditional dorms! Even though it seems more acceptable to pay more and get your own bathrooms, it's not as much fun. In the traditional dorms, you find more community and more friends. It's worth not having your own bathroom when you find a great amount of friendship here.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock may seem like a University that doesn't seem to offer much, especially if you have seen that lack of downtown activities it possess, but it's far from that. One tradition on campus is to write on the sidewalks with chalk about up coming events and the like.

    Bang for the buck

The school tuition is relatively cheap compared to other schools. Going here helps keep debt minimal, which is a big problem in today's society.

    What to do for fun

FUN. It's a small town, so you have to make your own fun. Get involved with things and make friends. There is a movie theater on campus that has weekly showings on the weekends. There's the outlets and a nearby movie theater. You have to look for things.

    Food and Dining

The food is average. It's nothing to call home about (unless you get sick!). It's college food; you get used to it. Some of the other dining halls are actually pretty decent.

    Dorm Life

Campus is pretty safe so far. I don't feel unsafe walking around campus, and I don't feel like anything bad would happen. Even at night, I feel very safe walking around campus.

    Bang for the buck

I love it here. So far it is well worth the money. I have made lots of friends so far, and everyone is really friendly. I'm loving my classes and the dorms, and it's actually cheaper as an out of state student than a lot of places I was looking at in state.

    What to do for fun

There's not too much to do off of campus. The nearest movie theatre is about a half an hour away in Butler. Grove City Outlets are about 15-20 minutes away, and the nearest Wal-Mart is about 20 minutes away. There's a Hookah Bar right off campus if you're of age, and it's a pretty town to go explore, but other than that, there's not much to do.

    Food and Dining

There's really only 3 big dining places on campus, Boozel, Rocky's and Weisenfluh. Out of these, Boozel is the only one who takes your meal plan. It's not bad food, you just get tired of it easily. Rocky's is delicious, but expensive and they only take flex. I haven't been to the Fluh, but they only take flex as well, and they're on the total opposite end of campus from me.

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm. I live in F, which is pretty far out of the way, but the building itself is really nice, and so are the rest of the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

My first semester here has been pretty easy, but I've heard next semester for me as an AT major is going to be pretty hard. It's nothing you shouldn't be able to handle.

    Tips for prospective students

The rock in the quad. Its a tradition of touch it before a big event for good luck!

    What to do for fun

Plenty of sports, clubs, sororities and fraternities. The Prime Outlet malls are about 15 minutes off campus.

    Food and Dining

Multiple dinning halls, one of them an all you can eat. Plenty of places around campus to stop and grab food or coffee, although somewhat pricey. The student union has great food places such as Quaker Steak and Lube wings and Starbucks coffee.

    Dorm Life

I was a commuter, so I never lived in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what you pursue, your major classes will be your most rigorous classes. Professors of your liberal studies and electives know its not your major subject and will teach in that manner.

    Tips for prospective students

For new students at Slippery Rock University, I would suggest joining a club, sport, or organization as soon as possible. If you begin something when you start school, it makes it easier to adjust, learn and meet people. If you don't like it, you still have time to find a group you will like. It may be intimidating to take on more of a work load but not regrettable.

    In three sentences

slippery Rock University is very high-energy college campus. There is a lot of involvement in extra-curricular activities which provided me with plenty of opportunities to meet people. The town and college itself is small, personable yet still entertaining for active students.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely think that Slippery Rock gets a huge bang for the buck. My major, Safety Management, has SO many great opportunities and it is so much that a public school offers. Also, I am doing Study Abroad to Ireland next year, which is also very reasonably priced.

    What to do for fun

This is where Slippery Rock lacks for people who cannot entertain themselves. I personally love that it is in the middle of nowhere because I can find things to do. The school tries to have different activities on campus too.

    Food and Dining

I cannot really say that this is great at all. There is absolutely no choices for people who try to eat healthy, like me, and when they do try to have good wholesome meat, it's all fatty. Nice try Boozel, but I doubt I'll get a meal plan next year.

    Dorm Life

I absolutely love where I live in the Residence Halls, however if you do not get along with your roommates, well then you're pretty much out of luck for the year. They say they have quiet hours but no one really enforces them which is troublesome for me because I am a person who needs their sleep. Overall, the facility itself is amazing.

    Academic Rigor

I can honestly say that it depends on the class and the professor. I found myself doing okay-ish in classes that I didn't really have an interest in which had a mediocre professor, but fantastic in a class I was interested in with a fantastic professor. I expect future semesters to be better.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely consider Slippery Rock as one of your top choices. This is a very real college meaning that what they tell you they have at orientation, they most definitely have and it is not all talk! You would not regret attending SRU ever.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are always on campus. There are a lot of emergency buttons in case something happens or is about to happen. Campus police and security are really good about making sure everyone gets home safe and being proactive about safety.

    Greek Life

Greek life isn't all that popular to get into. Probably less than 25% of people join a frat or sorority, but they throw a lot of mixers that are good to get to know people at.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs and activities on campus. There are so many leadership positions to take advantage of with these clubs. One of the great things about clubs and activities is that most of them provide great opportunities such as traveling and learning more about type of club. There are plenty of clubs that will benefit your future career, which is always good to think about.

Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock is great for any kind of person. It is the perfect size that outgoing people will be able to meet tons of new people, and introverts can find their group quickly. It is a place that is great for any student that is genuinely excited about learning what they want to learn.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are many traditions of the school, such as saying hello to everyone and wearing green and white on Fridays. One cool thing about the campus is that it was on a TV show about one of the frat houses being haunted!

    Bang for the buck

Slippery Rock isn't too expensive compared to other colleges and universities. Slippery Rock has a lot to offer to students through different programs and tools. It is a bang for the buck if you take advantage of everything that is offered to you.

    What to do for fun

Slippery Rock is a place that sometimes you have to make your own fun. A lot of time everyone just hangs out together. Sporting events are always fun to go to. It's fun to go to Grove City Outlets with your friends too.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of places to eat on campus. There are 3 cafeterias, 1 to-go meal, a Starbucks (that takes flex, a part of the meal plan), and Quaker steak and lube. Its great because the food in all of these places are great and the variety of places makes sure you don't get tired of eating at one place all the time.

    Dorm Life

The residential suites (newest dorms) are absolutely awesome. A little pricey, but most dorm rooms have two rooms, a private bathroom, and a living room with a little miniature kitchen (refrigerator, sink, microwave). House council usually has a lot of activities to do every week. One of the best things about the dorms is the open door policy, mostly everyone leaves their doors open when they are in their rooms. It is a great way to meet new people and friends.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor is going to be up to you, you make your own schedule and put in the effort in class. Professors present the information and, most of them, grade pretty fairly. However, most profs put the responsibility in your hands to further your knowledge. Even if you don't put effort in, you will be learning so much.

    Tips for prospective students

One of the most important things to do is visit the campus. As much as anyone tells you, ultimately its up to you and how you feel when you are on the campus. Make a list of what you want in a school, and see if Slippery Rock fits your list.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is a great medium sized school that is small enough to always see familiar faces, but big enough so that you have the opportunity to meet many new people. There are so many opportunities to get involved in campus life. The dorms and food here are the real selling points though.

    Campus Safety

The campus police are always patrolling the campus and surrounding areas, with the SR Borough police also patrolling. There are few incidents of any kind.

    Greek Life

There are about 30 Fraternities and Sororities combined, many of which offer pledging with no hazing and offer great opportunities and brotherhood/sisterhood to those who join.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and organizations, roughly 100. If you can think of it, Slippery Rock usually has it.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want: ~8,000 student body, medium to small campus, generally flat campus, plenty of options for all students, whether it be clubs/organizations, exercise facilities, dining options, and both high and low end of the income spectrum.

    Bang for the buck

This is a state school, so be prepared to foot a bill for ~$15,000 a year, but while it's cheaper than Ivy League colleges, the professors still treat it like an Ivy League school. This is where you get the most bang for the buck, the best education for the money.

    What to do for fun

There is the proverbial drinking that will happen nearly every weekend, but there are also tons of organizations and clubs that you can get involved in and can take up as much time as you want. The Student Center also offers free movie screenings nearly every weekend. There are also plenty of people playing pick-up games in the Rec center.

    Food and Dining

The main dining hall is Boozel, and it's an all-you-can-eat buffet type, and while normally it's alright, it isn't all that great. On the other hand, the new Student Center and Weisenfluh dining halls are awesome. They offer many different choices for food including different price points and different styles of food.

    Dorm Life

The newest Suites are absolutely awesome. The are brand new and they offer the biggest rooms on campus. However, the smaller, older dorms offer cheaper solutions, smaller rooms, but better community. It comes down to Community vs. Room quality.

    Academic Rigor

The professors definitely want you to come out of this college having earned your degree to the fullest. So you should expect that once you get up to the 300, 400, and even 500 level classes, that you will be working a lot on the material in those classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a major you love. If you come in expecting to go into a major because it offers a lucrative career, then find another reason to be in that major. Many students have changed majors because they find the course load to be too difficult or to be something that they didn't expect.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is a great campus, it's big, but not as big as Ivy League schools. Majors and their course load depend on which major chosen, but expect to put in at least another hour or two of work outside of class for every credit hour being taken that semester. 15 credits being taken equates to 15 to 30 hours outside the classroom of extra work, typically.

Dorm life always depends on personality, but I would say that my experiences have, for the most part, been well.

I feel that the campus is very safe. I have never had any safety concerns while on campus. They also send and post a crime report to the students, which says what crimes or arrests happened on campus and also within the city.

    Greek Life

I am not involved in Greek life, but there are many options on campus if you are interested. They also have booths at the clubs and organization fair, so you can explore the different Greek options and find the right one for you.

    Clubs and Activities

I was very surprised by how many clubs there are on campus. I came from a school with less than ten clubs, so to come to a university with so many different organizations is great. They hold a clubs and organization fair at the beginning of the semester, so its great to see all the options out their and also to meet people at the beginning of the school year.

Great for these types of students

I think Slippery Rock University is great for all students. There is such a diverse group of people on campus. I do not think it is just for one type of student, which I really appreciate. I feel with some university's, there is only one type of student on campus. But at Slippery Rock, you will most certainly find a group of people who are like you, which is very unique and special.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like I am really getting my money's worth. I think the most important thing for me is that I am in classes with quality educator's and that I am truly am learning. Because that is what you are paying for. You want a good education with educator's who really know the subject they are teaching, and you will get that at Slippery Rock University.

    What to do for fun

There are alot of different options for fun. There are a ton of clubs that are great to find people of similar interests. There are always speakers, theater production, concerts, and more. So whatever your idea of fun is, there is something for you.

    Food and Dining

There are a ton of different places to eat on campus, and there is a food option for everyone. The dining hauls have a bunch of different food options, so there is something for anyone's needs and dietary restrictions. There is also an organic cafe in the library and a Starbucks in the Student Center, so there is a variety of options whether you just want to snack or if you want a meal.

    Dorm Life

I am a commuter, so I have no experience for dorm life. But if I were to live on campus, I would be happy that there are many different options in regards to dorms. You have typical dorms and then you have apartment style living, so their is a style of dorm for anyone.

    Academic Rigor

I would say the academic rigor would depend on the professor you take. Some classes will be very challenging, with the content being very hard. Other classes, most likely the general liberal arts classes, will be easier and less challenging. I feel like the professors are very high quality, so matter if the class is easy or hard, you are getting really good information.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend touring the campus. I would also schedule the tour in the fall, because there is a lot going on campus and it is beautiful on campus in the fall. Also if you go when its warmer, you will probably be more inclined to explore the campus after your tour, giving you a better feel if the college is right for you. Schedule meetings with the finance and academic advisors. Get all the information you can about costs as well as helping you make the best schedule for you. I feel really safe on this campus- there are those blue buttons all around campus where if you push them police will come. Also, everyone is given the Police Departments number and we can call them anytime if we feel unsafe walking around campus at night, or unsafe in general.

    Greek Life

Being a member of Greek Life, it has a huge impact on my life here at SRU. Although I am biased, I do believe the Greek Life here at SRU is phenomenal. During last year's Greek Week (Spring 2013), we raised enough money to grant two children a wish for Make-A-Wish!

    Clubs and Activities

So many clubs and activities are offered here at SRU. The good thing is, if there isn't a club that you wanted, you can start is up yourself!

Great for these types of students

The 4 rocks! There are four rocks located on campus that represent your four years here at SRU- it starts out from just normal rock representing freshman, and then goes down the line and finally is a well-rounded, smooth circular rock that represents seniors.

    Bang for the buck

Considering SRU is a state school, it is on the lower end of the tuition cost compared to most schools- so yes, you definitely get your bang for your buck.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do for fun around here at SRU. They offer a movie on most weekends, there are hundreds of clubs to get involved in, and they also offer inter-murals that you can be a part of a team and play a weekly game.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining could be better. Although they offer great options, such as Umami chinese food, the actual dining hall food is not that great.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is fantastic! The new dorms are so nice and offer so many amenities that you couldn't even imagine. All the community assistants are great and will do anything to make you feel more at home in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor here at SRU is average. Like I said above, as long as you put as much as what you want to get out of it into it, you will be fine and get good grades. There are, of course, hard classes here but they are manageable.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend coming to SRU because a majority of the professors will drop anything and everything to help you better yourself in your studies. Make sure you like snow though, because we get a lot! One important tip is to put in as much as you want to get out- if you don't put in A work, you will not receive an A in the class.

What I do for fun is going to the activities or sport events that are happening. Food at colleges can be good or bad. At Slippery Rock University, our food is actually pretty good. If you live on campus your first year, you will be required to have a meal plan, but once you move off campus you can buy your own food if you want.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life has disadvantages and advantages but mostly advantages. I suppose if you have your own room this would not apply to you, but if you have a roommate one bad thing might be agreeing on things and making rules for each other, it can be hard to get a long with another person who you see all the time. Advantages are that you will most likely meet people and gain friends if you want to. Your neighbors are usually friendly and for the most part, people treat each other with respect. It feels nice to be on your own, especially if you have not before. Take advantage of the opportunity, you might pay a little more to the school, but it is an experience worth the money.

    Academic Rigor

What you have to realize about college is it is not high school anymore. People let go of your hands, and expect more out of you in college. Classes get difficult as you pick a major, but they are all doable. No body said college is easy but you can succeed with effort, and you can even get help from free, on campus tutors. Studying and doing homework is necessary and mandatory if you want to pass. So yes, there is academic rigor, but keep these things in mind, and you will succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantages of the things at slippery rock. Slippery Rock has a lot of sport's, clubs, activities, and there is always some event going on. Also, not only does every student have an adviser, but there are several organization and places you can go to talk to people about anything you have questions about. The new resident dorms are high end and are what you get for what you pay for. The new rooms have updated bathrooms and individual bedrooms which allows for more privacy. The old resident halls such as rhoades and north are run down but aren't absolutely terrible for the price that you pay. The old halls have public bathrooms and showers which isn't preferred by most incoming students.

    Academic Rigor

The academic difficulties range with he major choice. For example the Biology, Exercise Science, and Geography are harder majors. The quality of education in the major is solid, which defines how hard the major is. Safety Management is an uprising major that I would suggest to anyone that loves sciences and business. The major is competitive and allows for great job opportunities after school.

    Tips for prospective students

Attendance to all classes is a requirement that be self-attained. Being late and absent to classes is only affecting you and take money out of your pocket. When I broke all my tuition down it came out to about 65 dollars a class. Throwing 65 dollars away on a daily basis is waste of money. Applying for scholarships and grants should be a top priority saving money now so that students loans aren't an issue 10 years from now.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock University presents an overall welcoming feeling as anyone enters. From the maintenance of the university to President Norton the university is enriched with integrity and excellence. Creating an atmosphere of experience and knowledge on a daily basis.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in a dorm, but they look very nice and well kept. There are new dorm buildings that look really up-to-date. There have been a couple outbreaks of lice and ring worm, but you will get that at most colleges.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have had so far are pretty hard. I am a good student, but some of these classes are aimed for majors, instead of liberal arts classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips that I could give are get involved. You meet a lot of new people by getting involved. Another tip is buy a pair of nice tread boots for the winter time. They will definitely come in handy. Ask current students which professors to take, because some teachers are extremely hard.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe. There are police call boxes all over campus and there is a police station just across the street from campus.

    Greek Life

The interesting thing about Greek Life is that we don't have any specific houses. If you join a frat or sorority you continue to live in the dorm and keep your usual roommates.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and activities, and if there is a club that you want that is not already there you can create a new club.

Great for these types of students

The campus is great for all kinds of students. This campus has a place for everyone, and I truly believe that. There are all kinds of people on campus as long as you get out of your room, you should be able to find a group that you fit into.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every Friday was green and white Fridays. The campus prides itself on being friendly, so the is a saying hello tradition; basically when you see people on campus you say hello to them. It is a great way to meet new people.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely feel like Slippery Rock is worth it for the cost. I live out of state and choosing Slippery Rock over a college back home was very easy for me because it was cheaper to go out of state to Slippery Rock than it was to stay instate.

    What to do for fun

For fun we go out and will go to dinner or just go out and be college students. Slippery Rock is a very small town, so there aren't many options as far as things to go do. There is a small bowling alley which is also a pizza place that is open late so staying in for the night can also be very fun.

    Food and Dining

For a college the food is really pretty good. There are also many options when it comes to other places to eat. With the meal plans at Slippery Rock you get both meal swipes at the dining hall as well as flex, which can be used at the other meal locations on campus; so if you get tired of eating the local dining hall there are other options.

    Dorm Life

I was fortunate enough to live in a dorm where all of the students that live on my floor are a part of my branch of study; this means that we all have very similar classes. They are also all very social so asking questions and getting help on assignments that I may be struggling with is not an issue at all.

    Academic Rigor

You get out of all of your classes what you put into them. While some classes may be easier, they are only going to be enjoyable if you make them that way; your professor can only do so much. Your work load can vary depending on your major as well as what classes you are taking. Try and be smart about your classes and don't be afraid to ask for help. The tutoring center is a very good tool that is free to all students.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to get involved. Being social is a major plus, but if you aren't and you are staying on campus, just keep your door open when you are in your dorm room and you are bound to meet someone new. Getting to know the upperclassmen in your major is a good idea because they can help with the classes you may be struggling in.

    In three sentences

It's a very friendly and welcoming college/community. It is very easy to get involved through clubs, sororities/frats, sports, or other activities. There is a spot for everyone on campus.

    Campus Safety

The campus is good about keeping all its students in a safe environment and providing safety measures all around campus. It is a pretty quiet little town where not a whole lot happens but its always still important to be prepared for anything and make sure you keep yourself safe. Stay out of trouble and there should not be a problem.

    Greek Life

While I did not go Greek when coming to SRU, many of my friends are Greek and absolutely love it there. They have a lot of fun events and definitely have a good bond among all the sororities and fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of good choices for things to participate in on campus. My favorite would have to be the university program board committees. The concerts/comedians committee is my favorite because it is a lot of fun and they provide cool opportunities to learn a lot and meet people.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for anyone who wants to really enjoy their college experience and put themselves out there as well as study hard. The university is growing and definitely would be considered a good mid-size student body and campus. It is big enough that there are always new people to meet and things to do, but small enough to keep you from feeling overwhelmed.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the most unusual parts of campus are the rocks located in what would be the center of campus. There is a sequence of four rocks that signify each year of study, starting with a freshman unpolished rock to a shiny perfect senior rock. It is tradition to rub the rock each year for good luck.

    Bang for the buck

After attending this university for the past two years I would definitely say you are getting a quality education for the money spent in tuition. Also you get a good place to live at a pretty decent price. Overall it is definitely worth it not only for the experience now but for the long run.

    What to do for fun

Slippery Rock University seems to always provide ways for students to enjoy themselves on campus. Almost every day of the week there are clubs/organizations hosting events and meetings which are available to every student. Even better is that during the weekend the student union has a movie theater that plays new or just released movies for free to all students. If you want to do something off campus there is a bowling alley and plenty of good places to go eat, or to do some quick shopping take a short drive to Grove City outlets. There is also no shortage of socializing on the weekends off campus but it is what would be considered very tame compared to other university's.

    Food and Dining

There are some good dining options at SRU and then there are some horrible options. For the most part there are decent options such as Rocky's, Quaker Steak & Lube, Wisenfluh, and Campus Grill that provide good food and a fairly decent amount of choices. The worst part of the dining would be Boozel dining hall. Boozel rarely has any decent food choices and a lot of the time leaves students feeling a little funky after leaving. There definitely needs to be some improvement in the food quality at Boozel since it is the main dining hall for students where they can use their meal swipes.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is really fun here because there are plenty of opportunities to meet people and make new friends. The university housing is really nice and all of the dorms are fairly new so they're completely updated. There are always dorms socials going on in every building which makes for a lot of opportunities for everyone to get away from their roommate(s) and make friends with lots of other people who live in the same place.

    Academic Rigor

All of the classes for my major were challenging and provided me with a lot of value toward my future. However some of the elective classes can definitely be considered blow-off courses and did not really provide me with anything other than some possible future Jeopardy answers.

    Tips for prospective students

Invest in rain boots and a strong umbrella. Also you definitely need to bring a winter coat, gloves, scarves, hats, and snow boots because the weather is extremely unpredictable.

    In three sentences

This place gives you a once in a lifetime experience. The atmosphere of the university has created lasting memories for everyone I know. There is nothing quite like putting yourself out there and becoming a part of Slippery Rock.

I am nervous to walk around campus at night alone, so I make sure to always have a buddy with me although if anything does happen the campus does send out alerts to everyone's email and you can have your phone sent up to have campus alerts sent directly to you in a text.

    Greek Life

I decided to get involved in Greek life my first semester and I am so glad I did. Joining Greek life gave me a huge support system on campus. I am confident that my now sisters are going to be my life long friends.

    Clubs and Activities

There are some many different clubs and activities to get involved in on campus; there is something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

Something that is great for dance major/minor students is attending as many master classes as you can. The master classes expose you to different styles of movement and different ways of teaching.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are four tradition that every Slippery Rock student knows of: rubbing the rocks for good luck, saying hi to any student in passing, wearing your green and white on Fridays, and knowing are alma mater.

    Bang for the buck

There are often events on campus that are super fun to do and way cheap for students. Last semester All Time Low performed on campus and the tickets were only $15! I recently just bought a ticket to see stars from MTV's hit show Girl Code for only $2; the prices are unbeatable.

    What to do for fun

For fun I like to go to the student center and see the free movies that are shown every week, and I go to the football games and seeing the marching band perform. I am also am in a sorority, so when I am looking for a good time I usually get together with my sister. Other than that I joined a dance team and I really enjoy performing at the basketball games for fun.

    Food and Dining

All the places that accept flex always having something good; however, the food at the dining hall has its good days and bad days as long as you look around though you can usually find something good to eat. The main problem I have with the dining hall is the guest swipe procedure. As a student you get 5 guest swipes a semester, but if you have left over guest swipes during the week you are not aloud to use them on guests. I feel that you pay for all your meal swipes so you should be aloud to use them however you want.

    Dorm Life

I live in a dorm, but I feel like I have my own apartment. My dorm room is shared with four people and it has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathroom, a living room, and kitchen area. The area is very spacious and feels like a home to me. Additionally, I am part of the Humanities and Fine Arts living learning community which made it super easy to make friends and gave me full time access to the dance studio in the building so I can rehearse whenever I please.

    Academic Rigor

I am a freshman dance majors and have already seen vast improvements from my start at Slippery Rock. The department also has many activities to help you grow outside of class, for example you are provided with master classes from various guest artists, dance teams, and auditions to get involved in performing different dance pieces each semester.

    Tips for prospective students

Something I highly suggest is getting involved with groups on campus, such as the outdoor adventure club or a sorority/fraternity. Also, I began my first semester with more meal swipes than flex, but your more likely to find foods you like at the places that accept flex, so I suggest investing in a meal plan with more flex.

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock University is a very welcoming and friendly campus. You will meet teachers and have academic advisors looking out for your best interest even if you choose to switch your career plan. There are also lots of fun extra curricular activities for students to get involved in making it easy to find quality friends that share the same interests as you.

    Dorm Life

The new and traditional dorms alike are wonderful. The way in which they are set up is perfect for meeting people and building wonderful relationships.

    What to do for fun

Hmm... to be honest a lot of SRU students like to go out to parties. If you're not into that that's perfectly fine. The school shows a different movie every weekend, there are a lot of fun cultural events in the Student Union, and just hanging out with your friends is a good time too.

    Food and Dining

Boozel Dining Hall is alright... there's a fair amount of options but it doesn't always look home made. In the Student Union there are a lot of great dining options but you have to either use flex points or your own money. Overall there are a lot of different dining options which I appreciate.

    Dorm Life

The dorms can be a lot of fun. Living in the dorms definitely gives you the community feel, and it's also a great way to make friends. They provide a good amount of activities and socials as well. The downside is that you can sometimes hear the people in other rooms and sometimes people can be noisy in the halls. Other than that though, living in the dorms gives you the college experience that most people are looking for.

    Academic Rigor

For my major I feel that my classes aren't overly difficult at all. I study and do my homework and that seems to be enough to get A's in most of my classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you bring bad weather gear! This includes an umbrella, waterproof boots, a coat with a hood, and anything else that will keep you warm and dry. Slippery Rock has unpredictable weather!

    Campus Safety

Slippery Rock University provides its own Campus Police; there are tall, blue stands every few yards on campus that have an Emergency button that can be pressed and the police would be at the scene in minutes. Students are encouraged to press the button even if it's dark and they'd just prefer an escort back to their rooms; better safe than sorry. The Happy Bus also provides transportation until 2am on weekends for party purposes off campus. Although there is a cop on the bus, no one will be prosecuted for being under the influence on the bus; the bus' purpose is to provide safe transportation for those who choose to drink; however, absolutely no alcohol is allowed on the bus, seeing that the campus is dry. Students found with alcohol on campus will not be tolerated and will be severely punished.

    What to do for fun

Ten minutes south of Grove City, students of Slippery Rock University have great access to the outlet mall right off the I-79. If students don't have a car, there is a frozen yogurt place, a bowling alley, a tanning salon, a nail salon, and a brand new Sheetz all in walking distance of the campus. About 20 minutes South is Butler, where you can find another mall, several restaurant chains, a Super Wal-Mart, a Target, a Panera, and a Regal Cinemas, all at the hands of prospective students. Luckily, most places in walking distance accept Rock Dollars which is money students can put on their ID cards, so they don't have to carry around cash on hand. If spending cash isn't an option, there is always sporting events going around on campus, and SRU has a huge student section in the bleachers at the football stadium, and the field house. Also, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday Slippery Rock shows a free movie just out of theaters at its own movie theater located in the brand new movie theater.

    Food and Dining

Slippery Rock makes sure there are several options for dining for all its students. With over 20 different meal plans, each include specific amounts of meal swipes and flex funds. Meal swipes range from no meals per week, to unlimited meals per week. There are certain dining locations on campus that accept meal swipes; unfortunately, there are not a lot. For example, Boozel, the main dining hall, strictly accepts meal swipes, but Boozel Express, which is located in Bozzel's lobby, accepts both meal swipes and flex. The only other place to accept meal swipes on campus is the Grille cart on the North sie of campus, and they also accept flex. Flex locations are more abundant on campus. While Boozel Express and the Grille cart additionally take flex, Weisenfluh Dining Hall, Rocky's Grill, Quaker Steak and Lube, and Starbucks each accept flex funds. Weisenfluh includes four different restaurants which provide a variety of options (chinese, wraps, burgers, etc.), but their hours are not very reasonable. While one restaurant is open nearly all day each day of the week, the three others are only open from 11am-2pm Mon.- Fri. Additionally, the Student Center contains Rocky's, The Lube, and Starbucks, which each have reasonable hours and a great variety of food, as well. Unlike meal swipes, flex funds are given per semester, and if you don't use up all the funds in one semester, it can transfer to the next; however, that does not include transferring from year to year. Most students of colleges complain about the food provided, but SRU makes sure to have something that each person enjoys. The food is prepared daily, and most are even made to order in front of you.

    Dorm Life

There are several types of dorm styles available at Slippery Rock, which come at a very reasonable price. The most rudimentary room, being the traditional dorm, is extremely capable of providing prospective students proper living arrangements. With four communal bathrooms per floor, there is an extreme accessibility for each student. While the traditional rooms fit either two or three people, there is more than enough room for beds, desks, and maybe an extra chair or two. The University provides a dresser, closet, and bookshelf for each student, and if someone were to get inadvertently jipped of one, the Community Assistant or Graduate Assistant would be eager to help. Similarly, there are also single suites and double suites which include a bathroom and a common room. About $1,000 more expensive, the bathroom and common room are also provided with a refrigerator, a microwave, a sink, and a dishwasher. With all these available appliances, the student would not have to spend as much money on food and dining. Slightly more expensive are the on-campus apartments which could include from two single rooms, to two double rooms, each including an entire kitchen. Signing up for these apartments begin a little less than a year in advance, so the student and his/her family should know the arrangements they want to make around that time. Conveniently, prospective freshmen do not have to live in a traditional room their first year; they can choose from any room type, with an exception of the apartments. Also, while most colleges don't allow freshmen to have cars on campus, SRU allows such vehicles; however, parking spaces for residents can be scarce, so if you lose your original spot, the only other available parking for residents is the lot next to the football field on the South side of campus.

    Academic Rigor

Studying is always necessary in order to succeed everywhere you go. Most of the professors at SRU have an extremely manageable workload; however, sometimes you will come across the rare professor that merely thinks his/her class is the only course you're enrolled in. Time management is always key, so if you are in a class with strenuous course work, it's certainly possible to spread it out before the time it's due. Luckily, most professors understand that students are aiming for that A or B, so that make it as feasible as possible for students without handing them the grade.

    Tips for prospective students

Slippery Rock University is a smaller campus which has the capability of students walking everywhere on foot; however, there is a slight incline in whatever direction you are planning to go. Students are easily able to adjust, but if it becomes unbearable, there is a Happy Bus traveling on and off campus that accommodates those who would rather travel by vehicle. Also, students should be advised to pack warm clothing for the winter months, but make sure to additionally include spring and summer attire. When it snows, it blizzards, so a pair of galoshes are necessary along with hats, gloves, and scarves. Rain boots, an umbrella, and a rain coat are very helpful during the rainy days. Lastly, pick a meal plan that works best for you; there is an option for almost everything (from meal swipes to flex money), so make sure you'll use it for the semester, but you're allowed to change it once during the semester if you find it doesn't work for you.

    In three sentences

The academics, beauty, and friendliness on the campus depict the success of Slippery Rock University as a whole. Because of the manageable workload, students are more than able to achieve and excel at their personal and academic goals; the campus allows a serenity through its cleanliness and woodsy quality necessary in a successful environment. The campus is filled with smiling and welcoming faces of students and faculty who are eager to witness the successions of prospective students; this creates a comfortable, and homey setting required to achieve ultimate greatness and gratitude.

SRU is one of the cheaper schools in the state of Pennsylvania, but that doesn't mean that they don't have as much to offer. I'm glad I chose SRU because we are not spending as much money, yet I'm still getting a top of the line college education.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of sporting events that occur every day that you can go to and the town is right around the corner. There is never a shortage of things to do here.

    Food and Dining

SRU's campus has tons of awesome dining opportunities such as two dining halls, a sub shop, a Quaker Steak and Lube, a Starbucks, and more. The dining here is awesome.

    Dorm Life

I am currently living in the dorms for my freshmen year and I completely enjoy it. The other students are extremely nice and my community assistant is very good. Dorm life is wonderful.

    Academic Rigor

I constantly feel like I'm being challenged to do my best here and I enjoy that. It becomes difficult and stressful at times, but when I finish that work that is required of me, I always feel like I accomplished something great.

    Tips for prospective students

This school isn't a joke so come into school prepared to study and be prepared to do work. The faculty is amazing but that doesn't mean they won't push you to do your best because they will. You need to be prepared for that.

    In three sentences

It's a wonderful campus and the faculty are amazing. I felt like I fit in as soon as I began school because of how well everything came together. I thoroughly enjoy this school.

    Campus Safety

SRU was voted in the tops 50 colleges for their safety and it's stood true on its credentials. I have never once felt unsafe walking around campus. Having the security lights that can automatically summon the SRU Police when pushed also makes me feel very secure, especially when coming back from night classes and there's not that many people around.

    Clubs and Activities

SRU holds an annual club fair day in which new students can come out and explore all the different types of clubs and activities that it has to offer. I myself joined the Paranormal Club and I love being in it! it's taught me so much and is more personal for me and doesn't make me feel so left out of a group and I've made so many great friends in joining. I definitely will join again next year!

Great for these types of students

Slippery Rock University is great for all kinds of students! I've seen farm students, punk rock students, the gifted students, and many more! SRU does not discriminate for who a person is or anything about them.

    Bang for the buck

For the amount of tuition SRU does not disappoint for how incredible the campus is. For people who enjoy exercising, to the more laid back stargazers and students who just enjoy playing video games, SRU is the campus for it.

    What to do for fun

When it comes to having fun at Slippery Rock, the fun never stops. You can go to the ARC for exercise, take a long walk around campus, or even just stay in the dorms and communicate with people and make friends. I've done all of the things I've mentioned and I always have fun around campus no matter what I'm doing. I joined a club and love every second of it!

    Food and Dining

At Slippery Rock University I have a wider variety of places to explore for dining. From Boozel Dining Halls to Rocky's and Weisenfluh, to even the Campus Grille, the options are endless and all very good!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at Slippery Rock University is amazing. The Community Assistants are wonderful, caring individuals who are students just like I am and knowing that not only helps me to interact with them easier, but it makes it nice to know someone who can help you with mostly anything you need. The rooms vary depending on where you stay, from the older traditional housing in Watson Hall and Rhodes Hall, to the nicer more redone residential halls of buildings A, B, C, D, E, and F, but they're all wonderful to stay in and I love where I stay.

    Academic Rigor

Slippery Rock University professors each have very unique teaching approaches. Some of them I have to pay attention to more than others, but overall the professors are great and being only a second semester freshman, I am very excited on continuing to learn from and meet all my new professors over time.

    Tips for prospective students

If I can give prospective students any tips it would be these: -bring both summer and winter clothes because the weather can change drastically with hot days and bitter cold ones -pack lightly and only the essentials that you need because the SGA Bookstore will have mostly everything you need -the people at Slippery Rock are very friendly so as long as you come in with a good attitude, people will treat you well -it sounds cliché but use the buddy system with any friends you make anywhere you go -another thing that sounds cliché, but you need to keep up with going to classes, falling behind and not going because you don't feel like it can majorly hurt your grades since most classes are based on attendance and performance

    In three sentences

I absolutely love Slippery Rock University! The people are so nice and helpful, the location is beautiful and easy to get around on, the tuition is great compared to other colleges; it's a life changing experience! I only signed up for Slippery Rock University and I am so happy that I did and wouldn't change a thing!

    Campus Safety

From what I've heard, there have been a few incidents with safety. However, on a personal note, I have never felt afraid for my life in the town or on campus. There are emergency poles at almost every turn on campus.

    Greek Life

Greek life can be rewarding to a point. My best advice is to join a major/academic/community service fraternity or sorority. Those will really get you noticed. Social sororities can really cost money and are not always for everyone.

Great for these types of students

The school excepts diversity, but isn't overly dynamic like an urban school may be. For those looking for lots of excitement, it may disappoint. Also, it accepts physically disabled students, but is not always the best equipped for students with disabilities. There are ramps and such, but it isn't specifically geared towards such students and may not be a suitable fit for students with physical disabilities.

    What to do for fun

The university itself always provides speakers, concerts, and other activities for students to attend or participate in. Dorm halls are always planning socials. Whether students have fun off campus somewhat depends on age. Most students 21 or older will attend Ginger Hill Tavern or The North Country Brewery on the weekend. However, other entertainment such as bowling and movies (that are provided on campus) help to entertain underage students. If a car is available, Butler and Grove City are two places some students travel for fun.

    Food and Dining

Boozel is the main dining hall. Although it's food isn't awful, it doesn't always have the best menu. However, it is an all you can eat buffet style hall so there is bound to be something. Across campus there is Weisenflugh dining hall and the Campus Cart. Weisenflugh has a higher caliber of food, but does not except meal plan swipes (only Boozel and Campus Cart will). Flex money is accepted here as well as Rocky's, Quaker Steak, and Starbucks, which are all located in the Student Union. The food at the Union establishments is all rather good. Even for vegetarians, the university provides options.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a great way to meet people, and Slippery Rock's open door policy allows for interesting interactions with neighbors and friends. However, dorms can get rowdy regardless and that is why some students move off campus to apartment complexes ( there are many available).

    Academic Rigor

The professors will challenge students, but when Slippery Rock is compared to a school such as Carnegie Mellon, it won't quite compare in academic rigor. However, the professors and staff really want their students to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your advisors and professors. Email your advisors early for everything and keep in touch. They're there to help you and if you let them, you'll go far. Each department is different, though, so if you know what major you want to pursue, thoroughly research it here to make sure it seems fitting. Also, coming to the university as undeclared isn't always a bad choice. The first year helps freshmen get basic credits out of the way anyway so undeclared majors have anywhere from half a year to a whole academic year to really decide on a major.

    In three sentences

The university as a whole is very welcoming to diversity. The advisor's encourage students to find interests outside of class and get involved. It may not be a bustling urban university, but it has it's own unique appeal.

    What to do for fun

Lots of activities within walking distance of university.

    Food and Dining

    Lots of choices

    Dorm Life

    I didn't live in dorms.

    Academic Rigor

SRU's social work department isn't particularly rigorous but you do learn a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus if at all possible. The further your commute the harder it is to stay in the loop with group projects.

    In three sentences

SRU has dedicated professors with real world experience in their field. Slippery Rock is a great school for working adults looking to continue their education.

You are never far away from help, and there are police beacons everywhere across campus.

Great for these types of students

Great for any type of student!

    Bang for the buck

Definitely worth the money. I would not change my decision to come here.

    What to do for fun

I personally like to go to the ARC (Aebersold Recreation Center) which is a state of the art gym with a pool.

    Food and Dining

Boozel is an all you can eat buffet, and the food is awesome. Just one swipe and you could eat until they close. There are also other options for food, like Rocky's, which is subs, pizza, wraps, al a carte food items, and other delicious foods.

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm! I stay in the traditional suites, and they are amazing.

    Academic Rigor

I'm a music education major, and I believe that the curriculum is very challenging, but at the same time, it's easy enough that I can still comprehend what is going on.

    Tips for prospective students

Just be yourself! If you have a 3.0 and a 950 SAT score, you automatically get into the school. All that's left is to go to college and have fun :)

    In three sentences

I love it! I would highly recommend to any high school student looking to go to college. I have friends in many of the majors here, and all of them are very content with what they have learned.

    Campus Safety

There are telephones located throughout campus to reach the campus police. They are located next to the campus for quick and easy access. The campus police patrol the University regularly. They will help you with anything you need. For example, if its late and you need a ride back to your dorm they will come pick you up!

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a big part of Slippery Rock. You will find many different sororities and frats all over campus. They are a big part in helping the community and planning different events.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs and activities for everyone! Everything from Sporting Clubs to Residence Hall Organizations, campus radio stations, leader programs, language clubs, best buddies and more!

Great for these types of students

Sociable and Outgoing. Physical Therapy and Music are big majors in the school. Great for everyone because there are clubs and activities for everyone!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

THE ROCK! There are rocks for each year of students: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior, each of which become more polished and defined as you move up in the years. The HELLO tradition: Say hello to everyone on campus. Touch the Rock in the middle of the quad for good luck before an exam or game.

    What to do for fun

There is so many things to do for fun. There are concerts, celebrity appearances, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, softball games to attend. Musical performances are also very popular. Around the Slippery Rock campus there are bowling alleys, dinning places, grocery stores, malls and much more!

    Food and Dining

Some places are better than others but Slippery Rock has great meal plans and a simple way to keep track of what you have spent. The flex dollars are also very helpful.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a great way to get to know others in and outside your major. The buildings are located close to dinning areas, the health center, and where majority of the classes are.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on your major. Either way, there will be classes that are hard and some that are not. Slippery Rock provides a free tutoring center to help out with all of your academic needs!

    Tips for prospective students

BE PREPARED! College is difficult but you can get through it. It takes a lot of academic hard work, but remember there is more to college than just the books. Slippery Rock offers a wide variety of social events and volunteer programs.

    In three sentences

I love this college so much because of the atmosphere and the great people! Everyone is willing to help and are true role models. Slippery Rock University is a 10/10.

    Campus Safety

I've never had a problem at SRU pertaining to safety. There a 911 dial boxes placed all over campus, but no one ever uses them. SRU is a public campus so towns people can come on campus, but there have only been a few instances where security and police were needed. I feel very comfortable here. I never feel in danger, but like anyone will tell you, don't walk around outside late at night by yourself.

    Greek Life

I'm not to sure what the greek life is like here. I'm not apart of it. I know there's maybe twenty or more fraternities and sororities. I don't think greek life is that important to the students here. Sports are more important here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs here I can't even name them all, and if there's a club we don't have, you can make one. There are no issues with students finding a club that is just right for them.

Great for these types of students

SRU is great for all types of students. SRU is a very diverse school. There is a home for every personality here. It's very easy for students to make friends and to find that social group that is perfect for them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Students like to rub the rock in the quad for good luck. Our Alma Mater is very important to us. There supposedly a ghost called Emma that haunts North Hall. If you're not from western PA, the people here say 'pop instead of soda.

    Bang for the buck

I consider SRU a bargain school. This is a great quality, D2, out-of-state/in-state school. The price is not too much and out of it you get many free events, great education, great social life, and an overall great experience. I would never pay more for another school. This school is a great price that offers many scholarships, and it is just an overall wonderful school.

    What to do for fun

My favorite place to go is the ARC the schools gym. I like to work out, but they also offer Zumba, Yoga, Hip-Hop Abs, and Cycling classes. There is also a nice rock wall and indoor pool. They offer recreational sports where you can make your own team and sign up to play! I am also a cheerleader at Slippery Rock, so I enjoy going to practice and seeing my friends. Football games during football season are always fun! Come join the fan section and root for the ROCK! Slippery Rock also has meet and greets, street fairs, activities in the quad, pep rallies, dances, movies, concerts, guest speakers, and more!

    Food and Dining

The food at Slippery Rock is hit or miss. The main dining hall, Boozle, has great days and awful days. The salad bar and soups are always good, as well as the pizza and desserts. My favorite place to go is Starbucks and I'm glad a small school like mine has one. I also enjoy the T&B cafe in the library. Quaker Steak & Lube is great when you're craving wings, and Rocky's is great for your little Knick-Knack snacks and wraps. Off campus loactions are great! My favorites include Compadres in Grove City and North County Brewing Company right on Main Street in Slippery Rock.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is great. I live in the residence halls, which are newer, and I love it. I applied to be a CA (community assistant). The dorms are styled like an apartment and there are many different selections to choose from as to how many roommates you would like. Living in dorms is a great way to meet people, especially freshman year, and it's conveniently located on campus next to the dining hall, bookstore, and the quad. I love the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I'm glad that Slippery Rock is not a school with easy courses. There may be some here, but as a biology major, all my core courses challenge me in different ways and I'm thankful for that. If my classes were easy I wouldn't be learning anything. Challenging classes makes the brain work harder. I like having my brain exercised and pushed to it's limits. Though some courses may be difficult, the staffing is amazing and makes the whole process and enjoyable experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Always make sure to balance work and pleasure. Freshman students always have the tendency to play before they want to do their work or study. Studies come first that is why we are here. Students who do not socialize will not enjoy their college life. Being friendly and mingling is one of the most important things about college. It is a time to meet new people and make life long friends. Students should not be afraid to ask their professors for extra help. Your professors like to see that you are serious about the course and striving to get the best grade you can. Managing your budget is very important. Unless parents are willing, money doesn't flow in for college students regularly, so watch what you spend and do not buy too may university shirts and sweat pants!

    In three sentences

Slippery Rock is a great school for students who like average size, as well as smaller sized, classes, moderate student population, and a great education. Students at Slippery Rock will never find themselves bored, for the institution always hosts concerts, movies, and other social activities on a weekly/monthly basis which is great. Lastly, Slipper Rock has some of the best professors around, and I highly recommend this school for anyone seeking fun and a great education.

    Greek Life

...is an amazing experience. The sorority I was in was seriously family. They are all my real sisters. I always have someone to call when things get tough.

    What to do for fun

Campus games in the quad, study in the library with fellow classmates, listen to people play guitars in the quad, join clubs and activities. Getting involved is the best thing. There are so many opportunities and its an easy way to make LIFE LONG friends, not just friends for the time being.

    Food and Dining

    Good food. Relaxing environment.

    Dorm Life

The dorms and Community Assistants are the best! I loved staying in the dorms. The doors were always open and the entire hallway would have get-togethers and movie nights just to spend time with one another.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are willing to work with you so that you succeed. The work if hard, but with a little help you can do anything.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, there is so much to see and do. Everyone will show you the way around and help you out when you need help.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

In the fall there were a few pep-rallies and tye-dye stations all over campus, there are pretty frequent blackout/whiteout games for football and basketball and there is a 'rub the rock' tradition before a test that some people believe in.

    What to do for fun

For fun you can participate in the LLC events, groups, clubs and activities. There are many local parks and trails not far from campus. The mall is only 30 minutes away. there's a bowling alley and a couple bars within walking distance. There is always something to get into.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining are pretty nice, I wish that you could use meal swipes at Rocky's and not just boozel/the campus drive grill. I don't really use my swipes but I use a lot of flex. The walk to the food places isn't too bad either expect in the winter. Everything is slippery and its the longest, coldest 10 minute walk you'll experience (other than the walk to your classes).

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is very fun. I live in an LLC and there is always something going on (contests, challenges, tie-dying, frozen yogurt, movie nights, etc). The dorm staff and CC's strongly believe in team building and friendship. They do all that they can to help you fit in, feel comfy and make new friends in your building.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are tough but stay on top of things, talk to professors and make friends that can help you outside of class. There are also tutors that are more than willing to help you if you happen to fall behind. The school is challenging but manageable and when things get rough there are many options readily available to help you succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't procrastinate, stay on top of your studies and make at least one friend in all you're classes. It will help you keep your grades up and if you don't than you may start to feel overwhelmed with everything going on.

    In three sentences

There are many different class options and extra activity choices available to all students. FYRST seminar was a great class for first semester students to take because it gave so much advice on study skills, scheduling, activities, finances, etc. There is always something to do, right outside of campus there is a strip of stores and restaurants, tattoo shops, a hookah bar, there are sports and extra activities that the university offers and many LLC activities.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

My major classes were quite hard. I never felt like I couldn't complete a task but I also never felt like my classes were too easy. Very balanced.

    Tips for prospective students

The tuition is very affordable. This is an important factor when you consider how long it takes to pay back your student loans. Consider getting a quality degree for a low price.
