Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for Education and Business Majors!
Tips for prospective students Be sure and check your emails sent through the campus mail system (they are extremely helpful). If you have unlimited texting sign up for The SEMO Text Alert programs. They send you text messages when classes and school is canceled or if they are offering something special. If you have the opportunity, attend one of the local campuses they offer. These campuses are cheaper and offer the same quality education as the main campus. Also check for scholarship opportunities and programs to help pay back student loans depending on you department because there is a lot out there to take advantage of.
Bang for the buck The teachers are helpful and the tuition is decently priced. Be aware of extra charges that you may assume to be free.
Am enjoying being here I do enjoy attending school here. I am transferring to another college because of family matters but if given the opportunity i would definitely stay. The people and staff are friendly and fun! You get an atmosphere of seriousness and playfulness all at once. Its very enjoyable. Plus there are always great concerts and comedians always coming to town. The sporting events are a blast. The gym and recreation center is AMAZING!!!!!!! They also offer a great diversity of intramural sports for everyone!
Am learning a lot Southeast is a wonderful university for Education Major. This school is ranked in the Top 10 colleges across America for teaching. The teachers are really understanding of your personal situations and they do their very best to see that you get a quality education.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for students who like to be social and want to learn.
Tips for prospective students You should come and visit before you make a decision on any college.
Bang for the buck Southeast Missouri State University, in my opinion, is very reasonable about pricing. Their tuition is much cheaper than many other schools in Missouri and their educational program is equal to the other schools. There are also many available majors to chose from.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here because I like living in the dorms and I like the size of the school.
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot from my classes here at SEMO. I am in a Child Psychology class and I feel like I have learned the most from this class. The teacher is really helpful and the course is challenging in a positive way. The same level of difficulty is true for my Elementary Education Math class. Also, I am enrolled in two dance classes, Jazz II and Ballet II. Both of these courses are challenging and productive.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I think SEMO is great for a wide variety of students. Social students will find lots of groups and there is a lot of Greek life going on. Those focused on academics will find a lot of enjoyment in the classes. Athletic students have a lot of sports and intermurals to choose from. There's truly something for everybody at SEMO.
Tips for prospective students Come to a Show Me Day or schedule a campus tour. Talk to your admissions councelor frequently and don't be afraid to talk to students to see what they think of the school.
Bang for the buck SEMO has some of the best rates I saw in my college search. There are tons of scholarships offered through the university, and a lot of them are non-competitive (If you qualify for it, you get it as long as you apply in time). There are lots of opportunities to get financial aid if you need it.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus at Southeast. The hills can be a little tough sometimes, but it's absolutely beautiful. I have made some fantastic friends and there's always something to do. We go over to the aquatic center, play frisbee on the marching band field, or just hang out in our rooms. The campus is at a great location too.
Am learning a lot The wide variety of university study categories (generals) really helps expand the knowledge of students. You can discover something you never thought you would be interested in through your general classes. The small class sizes really help each student to receive more attention when needed. All my classes are about the size of my high school classes. All of the professors are willing to help their students during office hours, through e-mail, or even through special meetings. I have learned so much from just one semester.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Theater and Dance students. The River campus is a state of the art facility and an ideal learning environment. The professors in the Theater and Dance department are among the best in the country. Ken Stilson the director of the department is the writer of the text book which is used all over the country. The program is great for students from all back grounds. All of the Students and staff are friendly and willing to help you learn. There are ample opportunities for theater or dance student to perform as well.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should check the Southeast portal email daily. Not only do the professors use this for communication but SEMO will send stuff about billing and other important school information. Check Email before you arrive on campus as well because your roommate might try to contact you via the portal. Make sure to apply for scholarships Southeast offers several scholarships for students of all majors. Make sure during the application process you click on the apply for endowed scholarship button. Sign up for a learning community if you can. It is a great way to get to know other students in your major before classes actually start. Being in a community will give you a network of friends. Floor wide study parties before finals are remarkably helpful especially in the learning communities where the whole floor has similar classes. Learn the hours of the meal plan otherwise you will run out of Flex dollars fast. You need flex for pretty much every meal so don’t use it all the first few weeks
Bang for the buck SEMO is big college experience for a small college price. SEMO is one of the best deals in the state. Though the tuition is relatively low the educational experience is priceless.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy the atmosphere of SEMO. The college is located in the small town of Cape Girardeau. The school and the surrounding community have a lot to offer any prospective student. There are at several student organizations on campus and hundreds of ways for student to get involved. I never find myself bored because there is so much to do on campus and in the surrounding town. The Theater and Dance department performs several shows a semester. The historical river front of Cape Girardeau is a kitschy mix of old and new. There are several antique stores and mom and pop shops that surround the college. The people of both the town and the college are friendly and welcoming.
Am learning a lot The professors really care about each individual student and his or her learning process. All of my professors thus far have taken a personal interest in my life in and outside the class room. Professors are able to take time to help every student because of the small class sizes and they treat the student as equals. I find that it is easier to learn in an environment where the teacher is honest and open with the students. Small class sizes and mutual respect between teacher and student are vital criteria for a positive learning community. Southeast also offers a variety of classes on a wide range of subjects. Every student is not only welcome but encouraged to try new educational experience. I had never taken a ballet class before coming to SEMO but it has always something that I wanted to try. The class that I took down here was a great experience. I learned a lot about ballet and gained confidence in my performance skills.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want to join a sorority.
Tips for prospective students Make sure if you are going to go to this school, you are planning to go Greek.
Bang for the buck I do not like going to this college. I am wanting to transfer even though I have a full ride scholarship. This campus is all hills and the parking situation is terrible for first year students.
Am enjoying being here SEMO is a very greek orientated campus. Sure there are other clubs, but they are casted aside because greeks take over all of the bulletin boards. SEMO is also a dry campus, but students still drink and put their beer all across the campus. The shuttle service is slow and unreliable. The meal plans are messed up and the food is terrible.
Am learning a lot SEMO allows for collegiate athletes to overturn the academic arena as well as the athletic fields. Athletes get priority registration, two weeks before any other student. This is unfair because all of the classes are taken by the time everyone else is able to apply.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Future educators and people who love people. There are so many different kinds of people here, so many things to do and groups to join. Greek life is active, night life is active...I really love it here.
Tips for prospective students Take a campus visit. Homey Cape Girardeau is described by locals as a big small town. This is a perfect description. I grew up in a small town, then moved to the big city (Saint Louis area), so this town is a perfect mix for me. Don't be afraid to contact teachers and staff members! They actually ENJOY helping you and making your life a little easier.
Bang for the buck SEMO is one of the best values in Missouri and the states surrounding. The quality of the education and experience is more than worth what it costs to attend. Also, when you consider the massive amount of (often underutilized) student serives, it really is one of the best deals! Also, they have a wonderful library and book rental system.
Am enjoying being here I really like it here! When I walk around campus, it just feels like what I always imagined college should be: falling autumn leaves and professors and students conversing outside Academic Hall. Campus is beautiful, even though there are a lot of hills. Walking to class alone is a work out, but SEMO has a convenient shuttle system if you don't want to walk all the way across campus. There are a lot of different residence halls, and they all offer great support systems for everyday life. Each residence hall is a really tight community–I've met some awesome people on my floor alone! We have a really great time together.
Am learning a lot One of the great things about SEMO (and there are a lot) is the classes I have to take. In order to complete any degree, I have to take a wide variety of classes that will help me become more well-rounded as person. Learning a little about a lot, instead of a lot about a little, the first few semesters of college will give me a different perspective as my education and life goes on. The professors are great; in each class students and professors learn from each other. The staff is very understanding and always willing to talk to you whenever there's a problem.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I know a lot of people from the St. Louis area that are attending SEMO. SEMO has tons to offer for every type of student.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit campus. People here are very helpful in answering your questions, don't be afraid to call and ask questions. Also the admissions counselors are very helpful.
Bang for the buck Out of the colleges I was looking at SEMO was the cheapest but had everything I was looking for in a college. they have a lot of scholarships and hopefully I will be awarded a good financial aid package.
Will enjoy being here The campus is beautiful and has so much to offer. I can't wait till August 15 which is early move in day for on campus workers! I plan on joining Catholic Campus Ministries, Student Activities Council Residence Hall Association and possibly AFROTC. I am really excited to be a freshman!
Will learn a lot This is the only college in Missouri that offers the degree I am after, Historic Preservation. They offer so many classes that I would have never thought of taking before. I feel that with the small calss sizes I will learn a lot.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Southeast is great for any kind of student! I see all kinds of people every day! If you're from St. Louis, you'll love the drive from STL to Cape. It is just far enough to be away from home!
Tips for prospective students It is not the flattest campus, so be prepared to make a hike to class! That is the only downfall to this school! Just come to Southeast with an open mind and an open heart and you are sure to find a group of friends that you can truely be yourself around!
Bang for the buck Compared to other colleges in Missouri, SEMO is one of the most affordable. They have a great Education Program that looks awesome on job applications! Most of the people I know think that SEMO is a great school to attend because of it's affordability.
Am enjoying being here Everyone is so nice! As a college freshmen, it was easy to make new friends! I find myself calling my dorm home. I couldn't imagine being at any other school.
Am learning a lot Taking liberal arts classes really help me to expand my horizons! I am learning so much more than i ever expected to! The classes that I am taking are so interesting, and I find myself wanting to learn and become familiar with the subject material!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is really great for students who learn visually
Tips for prospective students Find a group of people who you can work well together with so you all could form a study group and stick together as long as you are in school.
Bang for the buck Southeast Missouri tuition is one of the cheapest that you will come around and for the price of the tuition you get the best of textbooks, help in learning, and an all around great college experience.
Did enjoy being here The people at Southeast are very much laidback and cool people to be around during stressful time in school.
Did learn a lot The teacher's were all well versed in there field of study and the work assigned wasn't too much but just enough to keep up with studies.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who want a somewhat smaller campus with a big enough student body where they will get a diverse popultion of students. Also a person who is not afraid of walking up and down hills and stairs because the campus is on the bluffs of the Mississippi River.
Tips for prospective students If you live in any of the Tower buildings try to get a lower floor because there are fire alarms that go off a lot and after you evaculate you then have to use the stairs to get back up to your room.
Bang for the buck Even if you are an out of state student there are scholarships that you will most likely get. You also can rent your books for a price of $25 for each book you get so you don't have to go out and spend over $100 on each book.
Am enjoying being here There is always something happening on campus that you can do. There is also the Show Me Center on campus that has concerts and other shows at it that students can get discounts on.
Am learning a lot I am get a major in Forensic Chemistry and they are very good if you want to go into Forensics. I have just completed my first year and they focus on your writing skills which you need in almost every job field out there.

Categories Comments What to do for fun there are a multitude of intramural sports, or clubs, or just about anything you would want to do.
Food and Dining they have excellent food options
Dorm Life the dorms are mostly quiet, and easy to study in, but that doesn't mean that we don't know how to have fun!
Academic Rigor they put a premium on students who work hard.
Tips for prospective students get good grades in high school, and get a good act score, and they'll help you pay for school

Categories Comments Bang for the buck This school is a better choice for in-state students. It is not very expensive and alot is included in tuition.
What to do for fun There are tons of clubs and organizations for students to get involved in as well as downtown shops and restaurants. The mall is a fun destination for the weekend.
Food and Dining It is very convient but not always so delicious.
Dorm Life Know yourself before you pick a dorm. I personally love community style but not everyone can handle it. There are issues sometimes but talking with your RA usually settles things quickly.
Academic Rigor Some classes are more difficult than others. Myedu.com shows the workload for classes and what grades most students get. I suggest consulting this site before registering for classes and talk to students who have taken a future class. They could give you useful information.
Tips for prospective students I suggest that they get to know their advisors if possible. They are crucial in helping students set up a four year plan and successfully completing them. Do not procrastinate registering for classes and housing, you will be sorry if you do. Go to class! You are paying for it so show up.
In three sentences I am satisfied with my experience here overall. No university is perfect but I have found the advisors to be very helpful. The campus can be quite a workout to get around but there are shuttles to help with that.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Everyone I've met here is so friendly! This is a very social campus WAY better than community college! I LOVE IT!
Tips for prospective students Scholarships and financial aide are important especially to me. Start your search as early as possible and don't stop they have scholarships for everyone don't let money keep you away from enjoying yourself. One day I had 59 cents in my checking account, and it was well worth it. Maybe that is not the type of comment I should put on here, but I still owe tuition and other dues and I'm not stressed about it! Everything here is worth it you will have a great time plus this is one of the cheapest schools in the mid-west!!
Bang for the buck SEMO is one of, if not the cheapest state schools in MO. I stayed home my first year because of financial issues, but decided no matter what the cost I needed to go away. After looking at tuition information it was not nearly as bad as I thought; especially after scholarships.
Am enjoying being here Although living on campus can be a drag sometimes it is so worth the experience. I love it 99% of the time. You see people you know all the time so you're never lonely which makes it hard to be home-sick even though you'll be ready to go home whenever you do. I absolutely love it here and I highly highly highly suggest going Greek! It's the best experience of your life. Girls recruitment is way more stressful than guys, but well worth the week of craziness.
Am learning a lot There are so many good instructors at SEMO. You will learn quickly who to take from the ratemyinstructor website and also from all your friends you meet here. I plan on entering the competitive nursing program in Spring 2013. Till then, most of the instructors know how strict to be in order to get the important things in your head which will help you and not to worry about the pointless information you don't need. (I didn't take math at SEMO) I highly recommend trying to test out of developmental en classes and the alecs program (math). I've only heard bad things about them, they are a waste of your money because a lot of people who took it failed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All types I think. Also, there are excellent programs for minorities and first generation students.
Tips for prospective students Try to do well on the math and english sections of your ACT so that you won't have to take a writing placement test and so that you can skip the introductory math course. Both are unecessary, so push your self now so you don't have to later.
Bang for the buck This is a great school for a great cost.
Am enjoying being here I definitely enjoy being here. There are alwasy events going on and things to be involved. There are a lot of offices and programs to help out also.
Am learning a lot Though this school has a high acceptance rate, don't think this is just an easy university. I sitll feel academically challenged and I truly feel like I'm learning.

Dorm Life fun environment but they are strict, and they do enforce all the rules.

Categories Comments Campus Safety very safe. always seeing campus police patrolling.
Greek Life many options for people interested in greek life, with a very active greek community.
Clubs and Activities has a great option of clubs, from science to anime.
Great for these types of students great for music and art majors. not so good for science majors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the entire campus is located on a set of hills. they're everwhere.
Bang for the buck the price of living on campus is ridiculous, especially with the conditions of the dorms.
What to do for fun there are many clubs, like rock climbing, fencing, and even an anime club.
Food and Dining food seems ok at first, but after a couple of weeks, you realize that there are not very many options to begin with and they repeat the options quite often.
Dorm Life in the community style dorms, there is a good sense of community, but in the suite style dorms, most people don't even know their neighbors names. many dorms also falling apart.
Academic Rigor the lower level classes are extremely simple, but once you get to 200 level classes, the teachers seem to forget that you take more than one class a semester and pile on the work.
Tips for prospective students if you are going to live on campus, get the lowest mealplan you would need and then supplement with food from somewhere else, especially if you have special diet needs. the food options are very limited on campus.
In three sentences most classes taught by professors holding a doctorate, few graduate students. classes never get canceled on the basis of weather. food is awful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Very good for the non-traditional student with full or part time work.
Bang for the buck The cost of the school is minimal compared with other online programs, I would attend Southeast Missouri State University for this degree again.
Dorm Life I was an online student, this does not apply
Academic Rigor The University Studies classes required average amount of time per class. The nursing classes were of high expectations, including clinical expectations.
Tips for prospective students Be very persistent with the advising staff about your needs and early registration for classes is a must. Often a class will say it is closed but you may contact the instructor to ask for an open seat and they will comply, do this if you need the class.
In three sentences Southeast Missouri State University has met my needs with their online RN-BSN program. The advising staff was not as excellent as I would have liked. Greek Life I do not know, I was not part of that.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs and activities.
Great for these types of students Students who want to party and have a good time. It is also a good school if you want to just pass and not have to actually learn your degree.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have a zip line in a pool.
Bang for the buck Not the best teachers. I am not saying that all of their teachers are bad, they have some really good ones, but then they have people who are just justified babysitters.
What to do for fun They have an awesome rec center that has every kind of sports that one could ever want to do.
Food and Dining The food was good and they had plenty of variety, but it was extremely expensive.
Dorm Life I can not rate this because I commuted to college every day.
Academic Rigor It was challenging but manageable. I thought that it was harder than high school.
Tips for prospective students Go in running and bite the bullet and every thing will end up okay.

Categories Comments Campus Safety SEMO is a very safe campus. There is very little crime for being such a large campus. There are emergency buttons along most walk ways and you can always call the Public Safety to escort you to your car if you don't feel comfortable.
Greek Life SEMO has a very large Greek life.
Clubs and Activities There is a very wide variety of clubs and activities to participate in through SEMO.
Bang for the buck They use a tuition lock-in, meaning that what ever tuition rate you have your first semester at SEMO will be your rate until you graduate. However, this does not include fees, which have recently come off an increase freeze and are jumping.
What to do for fun There is almost always something going on on campus and there are plenty of clubs, organizations, and Greek houses to get involved in .
Food and Dining There is a pretty decent selection in the various cafeterias / cafe's and they change every so often, taking the students opinions into account.
Academic Rigor It depends on one's major. Some University Studies classes are very easy, some classes within the program I'm part of are very challenging.
Tips for prospective students Do your homework. Most of the teachers will work with you if you show that you are trying hard, but if you act like you don't care or slack off they are very quick to not try to help you out if you get behind.
In three sentences SEMO is a good education for the price. Most of the teachers are passionate about what they do and you can see that in their work. SEMO. For incoming freshmen, there are many scholarships available however, for transfer students from other 4 year universities, there are none.

Academic Rigor Professors will work with you if you need it so don't be afraid to ask for help.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to get involved on campus and don't be afraid to meet new people.
In three sentences The town is very nice and quite. Here you will meet people from all around. It's a very nice experience overall.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Gum Tree - Self explanatory, a tree covered in gum at the top of cardiac hill.
Bang for the buck Once you are able to move off campus, SEMO becomes much more affordable because you are not required to buy a meal plan and there is really reasonably priced housing in Cape.
What to do for fun There is so little to do in cape, yet so much fun to be had. The campus basically dominates the town and almost every business caters to college students.
Food and Dining The food and dining was another thing that was rather expensive for what you receive. Thought there is a Chik-Fil-A and a Papa Johns on campus, Meal Plans are restricted to buy meals at only certain times a day for a certain amount of coverage. Meaning if your classes fill up majority of the lunch time that chartwells set, you are out of luck and must spend few dollars at rowdys, the only place open most of the day.
Dorm Life The dorms at SEMO are expensive and cramped, while they are not the worst I've seen, they are definitely not the best. There are no longer private rooms due to the large number of new enrollment, however you may get lucky and score a single room (there are very few).
Academic Rigor Classes can be tough, but most professors are willing to help and stay in contact via email or during office hours.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to live on campus for at least a year, possibly two depending on your academic performance, SEMO is really strict with this rule. On campus housing is expensive, but CAN be fun if you make it fun.
In three sentences Southeast is a cost effective school, providing a quality education for a reasonable price. The campus is nice, yet currently under construction to provide space for the rapidly growing enrollment numbers. SEMO is a liberal education school so there are a lot of General Education classes required.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is really safe, all around are big poles and if you think you need help from the campus police push the button on the pole and they'll be there so fast. But don't push it and run away trying to be funny, they'll be there before you get away. Guarantee it.
Great for these types of students Laid back, easygoing, hippie if you will, Cape Girardeau is a hippie town. A lot of musicians live there, and most people just hangout at the river, we don't go to the movies or go out to eat or anything that costs money. We sit at the river and watch the barges go by, talk, have bonfires, dance, play music, I've never experienced anything like it before. You can go up there every single night and hangout with a group of random people you've never met before and just have a great time with everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Zombie Vs. Humans, I think they do it twice a year but it is the funniest thing to watch, and participate in if you're into that kind of thing. Zombies have orange headbands on and humans have orange armbands on and they all chase each other around and throw socks.
Bang for the buck It's a really good school to go to, great people and great classes but much cheaper than any other university in the state.
What to do for fun On campus there are sometimes movies at the theater, plays at the River Campus, etc. But the really fun things to do are off campus, there's Slinger's, and Last Call which are both really popular with the students but I personally was never interested in them. What I did for fun was go sit at the river and hangout with my friends, I met so many people at the river, just random people walking by and if we happen to be ummm a bit intoxicated the river is within walking distance of campus, Pitter's also has open mic nights on Wednesday nights, completely free and there are awesome musicians that play every week. Look out for Devon, he's a good friend of mine!
Food and Dining SEMO has a lot of different dining options, the University Center has Papa John's, Chick-Fil-A, mexican food, burgers, and salads and there's a coffee shop also in the University Center. In New Hall there's Olive's which is homemade pizza, spaghetti, sandwiches, etc. In Tower's there's Tower's Cafe which is just a big buffet, good for when you're really hungry. Towers also has Rowdy's, you can get pretty much anything you want there. And of course you get these on your meal plan, you have a $6 limit per meal and then the rest comes out of your flex dollars. Also if you miss a meal it counts as $2.50 on your flex for the next week.
Dorm Life Even though it's the cheapest I highly recommend that you don't live in Dearmont, there's a lot of reasons that it's so cheap. I highly recommend Myers, the RAs are really understanding, there's a smoking area for those who do smoke, they're suite style rooms, and there are always fun activities going on. Mostly educational, but always fun nonetheless.
Academic Rigor The classes are awesome, the professors are really helpful and care about the grades you make in their class. The textbook rental is only $25 a book, you have a ton of paper to print papers out on in the library, and there's the writing lab which checks all of your essays for grammatical errors for free.
Tips for prospective students Don't party too much, stay in and study. There are a lot of fun things to do other than study, but remember why you're there in the first place. I also find that when making your schedule since the campus is so spread out and you'll have classes all over the place it's easiest to have classes close together. Less walking.
In three sentences SEMO is in a great town, it's right on the river and there are a lot of fun, legal things to do. If you live on campus there are always activities and someone to talk to anytime you have any issues. And the classes are so small, you can easily get your teacher's attention and ask questions, and I mean come on... the price!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Each dorm has key cards, which, in the case of someone losing their card, they replace everyone in the building's, that way no one can wander into the dorms. I think the campus is very safe -- at the entrance they have a security desk, and they are very cautious of cars that don't have parking passes.
Bang for the buck I think so, but again I haven't started living there yet.
What to do for fun I'm not really sure what there is to do for fun at this time, since I haven't begun classes there yet.
Food and Dining There aren't too many options on campus, but they have a lot of variety. Also, the fast food places in town aren't that far, so everything works out.
Dorm Life I really enjoyed the dorms, they're all very nice, and the social setting is very nice as well.
Academic Rigor I'm enrolled in the honors program, which is more rigorous than the average classes, but not by too much. However, being in the honors program entails having more credit hours and juggling a lot more than your average schedule would.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely tour campus before applying, because I didn't, thinking most campuses were similar, but the SEMO campus is not for everyone.
In three sentences Southeast has a wide range of classes, and I think they have something for everyone. However, I disliked the campus, mainly because it's in the middle of a neighborhood, and I wish I would have known that beforehand. But, I do really like the school, and I'm excited to attend come August!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always campus police paroling the campus. There are help buttons you can push in random places around the campus in case of emergency and the response time is fast.
Greek Life There are about ten different fraternities and sororities on campus. They always have little activities going on around the campus. You just have to involve yourself.
Clubs and Activities There are new clubs starting almost every semester so just look into it. There is just about a club for everything you could ever want to do.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are some weird people that live on campus so you should most definitely get to know them.
Bang for the buck The off campus restaurants give deals to people who attend the college. So always carry your school card.
What to do for fun There are a lot of campus life activities so all you have to do is find them.
Food and Dining They have a lot of different dining options. There are about seven different restaurants open on campus with loads of options.
Dorm Life Dorm life is fun and is way better than staying off campus.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major your course load may be extremely heavy, so you should study as much as possible.
Tips for prospective students You have to make sure you get to know your teachers and do all of your assignments.
In three sentences Southeast is a great school for people who like small towns. They have excellent dance and science programs. Most of the professors are understanding when it comes to students who need help.

Great for these types of students This school is great for outgoing hardworking students!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus CARDIAC HILL! There is a tree at the top you stick your gum on because the hill is so tough by the time you reach the top your too tired to chew your gum!
Bang for the buck It is a relatively cheap school that offers a lot for you! An awesome gym free with your I.D., shuttle service, many events, and just a good time!
What to do for fun Student government and greeks are alway organizing events that usually alway have good turnouts. Tailgating and footall games are always a good time too.
Food and Dining There are many diverse dining options but the meal plan is horrible!
Dorm Life Community living is like a big family and it's so much fun!
Academic Rigor So far the first year has been pretty relaxed but that is if you stay on top of your work. The teachers are also pretty understanding so there are some breaks.
Tips for prospective students It's important to stay on top of your work and to get to know your professors.
In three sentences Southeast is a very friendly environment. It is very easy to fit in. There is always something to do so you will never be bored.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are fairly helpful and diligent. The university is constantly improving lighting and adding emergency help-boxes around campus.
Great for these types of students Students who want a small-town feel and great academic experience, without being burdened by an enormous amount of student loans should check out SEMO.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Beware of the Gum Tree and Cardio-Hill.
Bang for the buck SEMOs tuition and fees make it a wonderful value. Even their out-of-state tuition is lower than most other in-state programs.
What to do for fun The Historic downtown holds many hidden gems of our region's past. There area also features a wide array of outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, camping, and rock climbing.
Food and Dining While the staff and service of the dining services is friendly and efficient, the value of the meal plans was less-than-desirable.
Dorm Life The dorms were fairly crowded, but the staff was usually helpful.
Academic Rigor The instructors are often too lenient with academic requirements, but their engaging delivery of material fosters a deep appreciation of the subjects.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to keep on top of deadlines. The registrar office is very strict on submission dates. Also, make sure you understand their DegreeWorks system before getting too deep into your intended major.
In three sentences SEMO offers a small school experience within the context of a mid-sized public university. The main campus is located in a beautiful, and somewhat hilly area of historic Cape Girardeau, Missouri with views of the Mississippi River. The school also offers plentiful academic resources while still keeping the professor to student relationship open and approachable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are these emergency towers all over campus too make it easy to call for help if you're in trouble! I've never needed to use one but I'm glad to see them all over and lit up at night. I do have to say that parking is a total other story.
Clubs and Activities During the year there are tons of different activities all over campus but finding out about them is sometimes hard. Most clubs and events are advertised on bulletin boards and even written on the sidewalk with chalk.
Great for these types of students Anyone who enjoys working out the recreation center has a great free gym with weights, machines, basketball courts, and a pool. Almost every building has a computer lab so if you like to study hard there are comfortable places all over campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is this gum tree on top of a hill that people who live in the Towers (big dorms) often have to walk up on their way to classes, the tree is almost completely covered in used gum! Gross but entertaining and fun if you have even contributed to the tradition.
Bang for the buck Although cost is better than most there are hidden fees all over the place and that's not fun but the campus and classes are for the most part great.
What to do for fun So many activities that are around campus. Plays, activities, clubs, and an awesome recreation center with a pool!
Food and Dining The food at the UC is a good variety but expensive so I pack a lunch when possible. There are great close by places near campus too.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms but from what I've heard from friends they are good.
Academic Rigor Some classes are harder than others and some I don't find necessary but the proper studying in each class makes it possible to keep grades up.
Tips for prospective students Use your resources and plan your classes wisely. It's likely you'll succeed if you try.
In three sentences With the construction and recent parking changes it's not fun but hopefully worth it. Great environment and full of teachers that care about your achievement. Good price for the education but all the hidden fees are irritating.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Recreational services being provided basically for 12 to 16 hours allows you to become more athletically fit and stay in shape in the basketball courts. Sporting events from Division I athletes allow you to root for the home team and show team spirit to all putting extra effort on the athletic fields as well as balance educational life.
Food and Dining Several options that open early enough for you to get something eat before class and allow you to get something if you have a later class or get off work at a late time. Food options such as Chick-Fil-A, Papa Johns, Smasher(an option that offers hamburgers/fries/and other deli options) Towers that offer all you can eat option, and or Rowdys that stay open to midnight or later and offer snacks and other food favorites(chicken nuggets, fries)
Dorm Life Dorm life is to a point required because it allows you to display your communication skills, the size of dorms is acceptable and accommodations such as washer/dryer and the floor's community room is a great place to hold floor events and even study. Resident Assistant make sure things are orderly and calm.
Academic Rigor The degree opportunities and the prestige of the university is high and consistent. The extra effort you put into making sure you succeed educationally the teachers and others will make sure you do the same.
Tips for prospective students Upon getting accepted to school make academics your priority, don't be afraid to ask for assistance from professors or tutors provided in the library. Also become involved in on-campus events and social with individuals that you live on-campus with.
In three sentences A great college with knowledgeable teachers great grad assistants and a wide range of degree programs. The extracurricular activities are great and consistent and I would recommend this university to most due to the small class sizes and the great learning opportunities one-on-one and group basics.

Clubs and Activities There are lots of clubs. To many to name. On the semo website is a full list and there is a club out there for everyone from debate, dance to clubs for different majors
Great for these types of students Great for students who are looking for a college thats not small or huge but a nice size to get to know a wide range of friends

Bang for the buck Its about the average cost of all colleges but you get alot out of it. I mean who doesnt think all college cost to much but semo is worth it.
What to do for fun Go to any sports game. Go to the aqautic center or either of the two rec centers. Or even go down to the river and go to the different shops and walk on the riverfront.
Food and Dining Great! there are so many different places to eat on campus. The UC is the best place to go it has 8 different places to eat all in one building
Dorm Life Staying in the towers complex is the most interactive many other dorms still have interaction but not as much as the four towers
Academic Rigor If you do the work and put in the time and effort it shouldnt be that difficult.
Tips for prospective students Get into different clubs and activites it makes college life so much more fun and you get to make life long connections with people from all over the world.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety on campus is quite impressive. All around campus we have emergency poles that have an emergency button on them that when you press it, it immediately puts you in contact with campus police. The campus police have also assured students that they can be at any of the emergency poles within less than five minutes.
Clubs and Activities If you are a sports person and want to play sports but not on a Southeast team, then you can play on an intramural team because there are always teams looking for more good players and it is just a great way to have fun. There is also an amazing indoor pool at the North Rec building that has a rock climbing wall and a zip line, which is where I spend most of my time at besides being in the gym. There are numerous clubs and activities on campus that would surely appeal to any student.
What to do for fun Some of the things I do for fun is play football with the guys on my floor at the band field. We will literally play football for hours until we are exhausted. We also get together and play basketball at the North Rec for a couple of hours after we get done working out. I like to go to the pool for fun and hang out with some friends there. There is just so much to do on campus, from going to sporting events or plays to having movie nights on your floor in your dorm. If you cannot find something to do, then you can always find something to do in town, such as going bowling.
Food and Dining The Southeast campus has one of the biggest food selections that I know of. There is everything from American food, to Mexican food, to everything in between. My favorite part is the breakfast at towers café. There is nothing better than waking up and going there to get a nice hot breakfast that taste really good. I also like that it is a buffet style breakfast so if you come with a big appetite, there will be plenty of food there to fill you up. My other favorite place is called Flip Side, their burgers are made to order and so are the fries, and it is really the fries I go there for because they are amazing. There are so many dining selections that it would take me a while to list them all, but I am truly happy that we now have a Subway on campus that just opened and a Starbucks that we got last semester.
Dorm Life The dorm life at Southeast is one of the best. The residence halls were designed for the students to have all of the comforts of being at home, without actually being there. Another great thing about dorm life is all of the new people that you will get the opportunity to meet. In my first year here, I have met everyone on my floor and almost everyone in my entire wing of the dorm. While I am friends with all of the people, I am really good friends with the guys on my floor. However, you will not just meet people from your dorm; you will surely meet people from other dorms as well from just walking around campus or meeting them in class. I truly like this campus because it feels like a home away from home.
Academic Rigor No matter what major you are going into, whether it is criminal justice or accounting, you are going to have classes that are extremely rigorous. My major is Biomedical Science so tough classes come with my field of study and I have already had a few tough classes in my freshman year, but if you put in the hard work that the classes require you will have no problems passing any of the classes. Also, if you find yourself having trouble with a class and the professor has tried everything they can to help you, you can always go to tutor services and they can find a tutor to help you. So while the classes are pretty rigorous, the Southeast staff is equipped and ready to help because they want to see you succeed.
Tips for prospective students The first piece of advice I would give prospective students is to stay in a community style dorm during your freshman year. Community style dorms are a great way to meet people because you are always on the go to and from your room to do something so you are able to meet the other people in your hall, whereas in a suite style dorm, most everything can be done inside your room except for going to class. Another piece of advice I would give students is to keep your room door open while you are in your room. This lets other students know that someone is in there and most of the time they will walk in and introduce themselves if you have not already met, which is how I got to meet most of the people on my floor.
In three sentences The Southeast campus is by far one of the most beautiful college campuses in Missouri. The campus is also very well laid out which makes it easy for students to get to and from classes on time, and the shuttles running around campus also help. Lastly, the faculty and staff are some of the nicest people I have met, they are always willing to help with any trouble you are having and can always find a way to brighten your day.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are so many intramural sports and activities to get involved in. We have sororities and fraternities and other social clubs. Also, we have division 1 athletics so the games are always fun and enjoyable.
Food and Dining The food here at Southeast is very good. Of course it can become repetitive, but they offer many food options as well as many healthy options.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great! I love living in my dorm and I have met so many new friends on my floor. It is a comfortable home away from home. I also love the location because it is close to all my classes.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major the classes can range from easy to hard. Just make sure you get things done on time and if you are having trouble ask questions or see a tutor.
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would give would be to be confident and don't worry about meeting new people because it happens naturally. Also, try and find clubs and groups that share similar interests as you. Don't be nervous for classes, the professors are great and if you have trouble with a class there are so many study and help options on campus!
In three sentences Southeast has so many opportunities available for students. It has great class sizes. Lastly, there are many clubs and activities to become apart of and there is something for everyone.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are pillars with emergency alert buttons all around campus, so I never have to worry about being harassed. I have never had anything stolen from me, nor has anything remotely dangerous ever happened to me while being on campus.
Greek Life I personally am not involved with Greek Life, but I am considering getting involved next year. Some sororities have reputations of being stuck-up, just like at every college ever. However, you have to remember that there are good and bad people in every aspect of society. Therefore you can't really label one sorority as inherently bad or stuck-up because of a few bad apples.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of clubs and activities to choose from, and it's easy to get involved in whatever one you choose. There are always flyers advertising groups and organizations. If you miss the flyers, there are chalk drawings all over the sidewalks advertising them, too.
What to do for fun There are always parties, just as there are on any college campus, but there are other things to do besides party as well. Oftentimes Resident Assistants will plan activities for your floor, so go to those. Family Video is right off campus, so movie nights are a pretty common (and fun) thing to do as well.
Food and Dining There is a pretty wide variety of restaurants on campus, so visit them all and mix things up. The on-campus Starbucks and Subway are the best things that have ever happened to me.
Dorm Life My experience living in a dorm has been amazing. I made friends with the other people on my floor within the first week, and it feels like we have known each other for years. When I left for college I did not expect to gain a second family, but I definitely did.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor differs depending on one's major, but overall I would say that the classes and workload are manageable. If you put effort into your classes, there is nothing to worry about.
Tips for prospective students Meeting people and getting involved is the easiest part of college, so take advantage of that and do it instead of locking yourself in your room. No matter who you are or what your interests are, you will make friends. Everyone fits in somewhere. The people here are pretty friendly, including your teachers, so don't fear them. I suggest you get to know them by speaking up in class. Through the combination of being friendly with your professors and actually putting effort into your schoolwork, classes do not have to be stressful at all.
In three sentences After only a few semesters at Southeast Missouri State University, I am already feeling confident and more prepared for a career in my field of study. Transitioning from high school to college was a breeze as everyone, even the professors, made me feel welcomed. I never expected to be this happy and have this much fun my first year as a measly, ankle-biting freshman.

Categories Comments What to do for fun For fun, there is a park right by the campus, as well as the riverfront and little shops downtown. If you are over 21, there are quite a few bars downtown as well. There is also a shopping mall, mini golf, bowling alley and other fun things to do in Cape Girardeau.
Food and Dining The food on campus is not the greatest, but it is edible. On the plus side, there are a lot of places to chose from when it comes to eating on campus, and you will quickly learn where the better food is at.
Dorm Life Dorms are okay, most of them are pretty nice. The RA's are there to help you. but don't bother you. The dorms are also a great way to make new friends.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes are easy, but you still learn a lot from them. As long as you do the work you are assigned (and correctly), you should get an A or B in most classes.
Tips for prospective students When you start college, take it serious from the beginning. It is really hard to catch up and raise your GPA after it has taking a huge hit. But remember, it is your college years, so be serious is class but make sure you have fun when you can!
In three sentences Semo is a great school. It is the perfect size and I love that it is easy to make new friends here. The classes scheduling is great because many classes are offered in class and online so you have lots of flexibility when creating your class schedule.

Greek Life The most life changing thing that I have ever done in my life and the best decision that I have made. I cannot say enough how great it is to be Greek. I have learned so much and I love how I feel like a part of something. In Greek life you gain so many experiences that you will never get to have in your life again. You also have chances to really network with people and take on positions that will help you in your future!
Great for these types of students ANY type of student will find a way to fit in here! Our campus is extremely diverse!
Bang for the buck I give Southeast a lot of credit on what they offer to students. I just wish more students would get involved with different opportunities that they do offer! I think that this campus overall is a great campus and I honestly do feel like I get my bang for the buck overall. There are little things here and there that might need helping, but in general I am satisfied.
What to do for fun I recommend playing intramural sports and also joining Greek life. Being Greek here at SEMO has been the best choice I have made so far. It is so much fun and I really love the experience that I have had so far with it.
Food and Dining The food here at SEMO is nothing to really complain about. I think that Southeast tries to give us the best variety of things to choose from and I actually really appreciate all of the options that they provide for the students.
Dorm Life I never had the chance to live in the dorms here at Southeast Missouri State University but I do have friends that have. I hear great things about most of the dorms and I really can say this is where you make a lot of your friends your first years of school.
Academic Rigor In my opinion, I think that this University has some challenges in the professor department. I have had many professors in which I feel like I do not learn hardly anything from. I hear students complain about their professors all the time and this makes me sad to see that we are paying for an education and not getting the bang for our buck.
Tips for prospective students I recommend living in the dorms your first year of college! Students really need to get the college experience and I think this is one of the best ways in doing so. I also recommend that students look into on campus organizations for example Greek life, Student Government, or other clubs you can volunteer for! Being involved is the best way to get a great experience and make friends!
In three sentences Southeast Missouri State University is a very diverse campus filled with a great mixture of people. The learning atmosphere is not quite what I would expect from a four year college though. I think that this University could fix a few problems here and there about the school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety SEMO is one of the safest campuses ever. Period. I never worry about getting jumped or hurt even at 3am walking across campus. There's always emergency posts everywhere, and the campus police are always patrolling the campus at all hours. They are also very quick at responding to emergencies and take care of every problem that arrises efficiently and effectively.
Greek Life Depending on which Fraternity/Sorority you join, you can have a great time. Lot of people involved with Greek life have said it's the best experience from college, and the friends they have there feel like family. Just be careful about what you get involved with. They're usually pretty good.
Clubs and Activities It's got almost every sport available, so no matter what you play, you can find other people at SEMO who also want to play.
Great for these types of students This is a great school for students who really don't care where they go, as long as they can have fun and want a degree in what they love. It's got those things, and its cheap for college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus is quite hill-y, with lots of ups and downs, but other than Cardiac Hill, the steepest hill on campus, there aren't that many big landmarks. There's the gum tree on top of Cardiac Hill, but it's dying because of all the gum on it.
Bang for the buck For what you pay, SEMO is a great school. It feels like college, and you get the same degree that you would if you paid twice as much for a bigger college. The experience is worth what you pay.
What to do for fun Most events on campus set up by the University are movies or small parties during holidays. If you want to have a great time, then you must create it with your friends. There is a movie theatre and restaurants, but if you want to do things that don't cost money, then hanging out with your friends is the way to go.
Food and Dining Honestly, the food isn't great. It's enough to fill your belly, but just as it is with other colleges, you shouldn't pick pizza and burgers every meal, or you'll just get sick. If you make the right choices with food, you can't go wrong. The problem is, there aren't many choices in food. What's for dinner is what's for dinner, and it's not always top-notch.
Dorm Life Depending on where you live, the dorms can be a great experience. Living with other people you didn't know previously it part of the experience, and as long as communication takes place, no problems occur. Some of the facilities feel a bit outdated though.
Academic Rigor The teachers know what they're teaching, and there isn't an overwhelming amount of work to be done, but enough to peak your interests and help you decide the right career choice for you.
Tips for prospective students If you're unsure of which college is right for you, and you don't really care that much where you should be, then SEMO will be right for you. It's just the right size, and still feels welcoming. By taking required classes, you can start to understand your passion and what you really want to do with your life.
In three sentences SEMO is not small enough to recognize most students and feel at home, but big enough to feel like college and not high school. It also has a very good college town, which is small enough that, as long as you know where to do, you can really feel at home here. The academics are superb for the price you pay, and the classes are small enough so have many opportunities to talk with your professors one on one if you so desire.

Categories Comments Food and Dining There are many places to choose from, but some of it is not so great.
Dorm Life RAs are very helpful, dorms are large, and clean.
Academic Rigor Classes are a little tough, but if you fall behind or need help, there are many different way the university offers to help.
In three sentences I believe that Southeast Missouri State University is a wonderful school. The campus is beautiful with many activities. The classes are small and well taught.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The campus provides lots of activities but unless you are either 21 or greek, there isn't much to do.
Food and Dining The food is great especially now there is starbucks and subway on campus.
Dorm Life I lived in the dorm for a year and it was great. In my opinion towers would be the best place to be because it is more social.
Academic Rigor The classes aren't too hard but some can be challenging, it depends on what your major is also.
Tips for prospective students I would stay in towers or the dorms for two years then move off campus.
In three sentences The advisors are very helpful. Although it is a big campus, its definitely not as big as some of the other state schools. It is a very safe campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is one of Southeast's greatest features. Campus police are patrolling the campus in vehicles 24/7. In addition to campus police, there are lit walkways throughout campus that have emergency towers in case anything happens. Students are encouraged to not walk alone and to always take the lit pathways.
Clubs and Activities While the clubs and activities are something you have to go searching for, each club has it's own focus and goal. Joining a club or being involved in an activity opens up the doors for new friendships. Plus, being involved really helps you do better in school and looks great on your resume!
Great for these types of students Southeast welcomes all students. Each student would be accepted into many different clubs and organizations as well as be able to find students with common interests. Southeast also welcomes many international students and integrates them into the university as much as possible.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Greek hill is a monumental spot for all those involved in fraternities and sororities. Even if you aren't involved in Greek Life, the music blasting from the Greek dorms can be heard almost anywhere on campus on a nice sunny day.
Bang for the buck Southeast is a school that works with you on your finances to help you get the degree you want. In addition to great financial aid. The university has a textbook rental system. This system allows students to rent textbooks for 25.94 each and return them at the end of the semester. This saves a lot of money when you don't have to buy textbooks. Also, each residence hall has its own laundry facility. No change is needed, all you have to do is bring the soap!
What to do for fun There is always some type of activity going on at Southeast. Whether it is a sporting event, or an event sponsored by the Student Activities Council, there is always something you can be doing. The Recreation Center has a lot of intramural sports opportunities as well as a pool that is fun to go swimming at! Fun events like, a hypnotist visiting and an ice cream social are just a couple of the things you can do on campus for fun.
Food and Dining While the food might not be a 5-star restaurant, Southeast does a sufficient job in supplying food for each individual's tastebuds. In addition to a variety of foods, the food services on campus provide nutrition information for those that are trying to eat on the healthier side. We also have a lot of food chain restaurants on campus such as, Starbucks, Subway, Dominoes and a lot more.
Dorm Life While most people would claim the dorms are not so great. Living in the dorms, especially community-style, gives you an opportunity to make friends with people that you live with. Also, living in the dorms has you close to everything that you need: food, laundry facilities, computer lab and all your classes are within walking distance!
Academic Rigor While the school is pretty average when it comes to academic level of students. Each individual student chooses the academic rigor of their own schedule. You can choose to load up with several credit hours and honors classes. Or you can choose to take your time and not overwhelm yourself. It really just depends on the individual's learning abilities, study habits and their class schedule.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you complete all necessary things by the deadline. Often times, you get reward for completing things early, such as priority housing or early class scheduling. Also, get involved as much as you can. As cliche as it sounds, Southeast always has activites to go to and it gives you the opportunity to meet new people.
In three sentences Southeast Missouri State is a large enough school that you don't know everyone that goes here. At the same time, the classes are small enough that you can get one-on-one time with professors who really care about you being successful. The community feeling you get while attending Southeast is what makes it such a great university.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Located very near SEMO is DPS (the Department of Public Safety) You can call them 24 hours a day for assistance and they also patrol around campus. I think one of the best things about here on campus is their emergency lights. They have emergency lights all over campus that you can push the button and be connected to someone immediately. Even if you're walking in the dark and just want someone to monitor where you're at and if you make it to your dorm safely, you can push the button as you go. Also, they have a locked door into your individual residence hall and another one from your louge to your rooms. Then one on your own door as well. At the River Campus, they have emergency phones down every hallway that all you have to do is pick up and it will connect you immediately with the police.
Greek Life I don't know much about Greek Life here but there is A LOT of Greek housing and they get their own mailboxes here as well.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs here to participate in and many varieties in activies. SEMO's SAC hosted a hot air balloon that was absolutely FREE to ride. They also had a free Hypnotist show. With so many clubs and activities, there's always SOMETHING you can do. Personally, I take part in the Anime Party which is absolutely fabulous and everyone can get together and vote to watch anime and hang out.
Great for these types of students SEMO is great for anyone worried about transition from High School to College or someone who wants a small college where you can get close with the teachers so you're not just another face in the crowd.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One thing everyone knows about on campus is the famous Cardiac Hill. It's a VERY steep hill that they put one of their many emergency lights on just in case you feel the need to press it for any reason. The tradition is that when you make it to the top, you take a piece of chewing gum and stick it to the famous Gum Tree. People also tend to take chalk and put You made it! up at the top.
Bang for the buck Although parking has always an issue here, SEMO always works to improve itself. It's attendance rate is steadily increasing and more things are added to accomodate. They take what the students want into account and try to make things as best for us as possible.
What to do for fun There are many clubs, activites, and events that take place here at SEMO. The River Campus (which you can take the River Campus shuttle to get to) usually has a play, musical, or performance that you can see, many of which are only three dollars with a student I.D. The best bet is to find a club you would be interested in where you have designated times when you get together and can meet people with common interests. There are also many events that are hosted either by SEMO's SAC or by a Sorority/Fraternity. One thing everyone likes to hear is free, and many things available on campus ARE free, you just have to be aware of what's taking place and when.
Food and Dining SEMO is starting to offer more interesting food such as Starbucks and Subway, but some things won't fit into the alloted amount of money for a meal plan. That's just something to be aware of, but Rowdy's is open until midnight for those who prefer to stay up late and Tower's Cafe opens at seven on weekdays and ten on weekends. There are many places to eat, but you have to be willing to make the trip to get the food, which shuttles can help you get to place to place if you do not wish to walk.
Dorm Life Dorm life varies depending on where you're living at on campus. No matter what, you're going to be living around people you will like and people you won't particularly care for, but overall, dorm life is pretty average. Each floor has an RA which is just someone there to look after everyone and help with any questions you may have.
Academic Rigor SEMO has the Honor's Program where you attend specific Honor's classes and fills out requirements to graduate under their program. It offers many opportunities and events.
Tips for prospective students Applying for housing as soon as possible and pay attention to deadlines. If you aren't sure about something, don't be afraid to ask. Definately check out the clubs and activites around campus.
In three sentences I believe SEMO is great for students who want the college life but not a large campus. SEMO is easy to navigate and everyone is really helpful. Many of the classes only consist of around 20 students, so it makes the switch from high school to college much smoother.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has these poles every so many feet that away if you are being followed or attacked you can press the button as you pass them and the campus police will be able to track where you are going to come and help. Also if you just feel unsafe you can press the button and someone will come and escort you back to your dorm or to your car.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of student organizations. These organizations have a lot of events too. They even try to raise money for charity. Some of the events I have been too are Halloween party's, Carpe Demi, a masquerade ball, and some charity's include rely for life or march of dimes.
What to do for fun I am in two student organizations that get together once a week to hang out and talk or play games. There are two rec centers and one has a big pool with a volleyball net, basketball goal, and a zip line. Me and my friends also hook video games and stuff out in our lounge and play games. Every other week the school has a movie night too, where you can go watch a movie for free and get a free drink and popcorn.
Food and Dining There is a variety of places to eat but my favorite is the towers cafe because you can spend one meal and eat as much as you want, you eat your money's worth. If you want something fast and to go though they have a place called rowdy's and a subway.
Dorm Life The dorms are great. I love being in a area of my own but still being able to hang with friends. There is a lounge on each floor where you can hang out with friends. Each floor also has a little room for the students to study in if they can't get some quite in their room.
Academic Rigor SEMO has all the classes I need to get my major and I have learned a lot. When I'm having trouble there is always someone to help. My professors welcome questions if I'm having a problems. If they are not available SEMO provides free tutors and there is a writing lab open during a majority of the time on week days.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to make important deadlines and don't be afraid to ask for help. There are no stupid question the people at southeast are very kind and caring so they won't mind answering any questions. There are tons of student organizations so don't be afraid to get involved either. Just make sure you don't bite off more than you can chew.
In three sentences SEMO is an excellent school. There is always someone to help you whether it's by phone, email, or in person and the professors are great teachers and very understanding. The campus is easy to navigate and it's a great school with affordable prices.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You see DPS everywhere and they are on campus so it's very close.
Greek Life I am not involved, but I have lots of friends that are and they love it. It's really fun and they do great things for the community. There isn't that much hazing and the very little there is, isn't hard at all.
Clubs and Activities There is so much to join. Think of something you like and I guarantee that there is a club for it. There is a club for fishing.
Great for these types of students Outgoing students who want to have a good time and get involved.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The gum tree at the top of cardiac is definitely an unusual location. People become so out of breath after they walk up this hill, that the tree on top of the hill is covered in gum that people put on it because they are so out of breath from walking the hill.
Bang for the buck You get a good college education like a big school, but for a decent amount.
What to do for fun Intramural sports, free movie nights, free comedians, free pizza parties. Anything for free is usually fun.
Food and Dining There are good places like Starbucks on campus. Towers Cafe can be a hit or miss though.
Dorm Life Being able to have your own little space really makes you mature.
Academic Rigor Depends on who you have as teachers. Some are great and some can be not too good.
Tips for prospective students Don't go out every night because your grades will not be as good as they could be. Try and limit it to just the weekends to go out. Always look up professors on ratemyprofessor.com to make sure that the class you're signing up for has a teacher that really explains the material. Do not wait until the last minute to start papers. This isn't high school, teachers grade much harder.
In three sentences I think Southeast Missouri State University is a great university to attend if you prefer the college experience with smaller class sizes. It has some great teachers and organizations. There are also many opportunities that they provide here to meet and get information from motivational speakers that they have come fairly often.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is pretty good at Southeast. The campus police are always on patrol at all times throughout the campus. They also post signs all over campus if there is a crime reported in the area to warn students which is very good to know in terms of safety.
Greek Life Greek life is pretty average here. If you aren't a part of one its no big deal, no one will treat you any different. But, there are a variety of options when it comes to different Greek Life organizations, you just have to find the one that's right for you. Don't join if you really aren't interested, because Greek Life can be time consuming and expensive.
Clubs and Activities There are an average amount of clubs and activities available at SEMO. There are music educators organizations, student government organizations, intramural soccer teams, science organizations and so much more. There is always a variety of clubs and activities here at Southeast.
Great for these types of students Southeast is a great school for students who are pursuing degrees in education. SEMO has a great staff of educators and is affordable.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year on campus around October, there is a game called Zombie tag. This is a campus wide game and is very fun to play. Also, there is a Dance Marathon every year for charity that is very awarding to participate in.
Bang for the buck Southeast is a very good quality school for education, especially for the price. SEMO is rated one of the top schools for education and is very affordable. With Southeast's tuition rates, you won't end up paying out the nose on loans after you graduate.
What to do for fun There isn't really a whole lot to do around campus for fun, unless you are part of Greek Life. SEMO does have a casino downtown, but if you aren't 21 you're kind of out of luck. Mostly fun activities revolve around going to bars and social drinking with friends.
Food and Dining Food and dining is pretty average here. On campus dining gets boring after a while, especially if you live on campus and have a meal plan. There is some variety, but not a whole lot of options in my opinion.
Dorm Life Dorm life isn't for everyone, if you like to be surrounded by plenty of people all the time, places such as Towers Residence Halls or Merick Hall would be good for you. If you are more of a social recluse, go for Henderson Hall. It is a good place if you have trouble focusing on studies because there are limited distractions.
Academic Rigor Academics here such as General Studies aren't very difficult, especially if you're doing what you're supposed to such as studying, showing up to class, and turning in homework on time. But, sometimes classes can be hard depending on who your teacher is. Always review teachers online before you sign up for their class.
Tips for prospective students Attend all classes and be there on time. Also, dedicate special hours for studying time and homework time to keep up with school work. Remember, you're the one paying for your education, so make it count!
In three sentences Southeast is a great place for students pursuing degrees in education and also in the medical field. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I would give SEMO a 9. One of the most important things about Southeast that is a determining factor for application is the very affordable price.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck This is definitely worth the cost.
What to do for fun There are tons of things to do! Fraternities and Sororities are an option that people partake in at Southeast. There are intramural and club leagues for different sports. Organizations and clubs have events a few times a month, and there is also rec centers for students to use with pools, gyms, and rock walls.
Food and Dining The food and choices that Southeast has are pretty good. They have different restaurant choices and regular cafeteria food you can pick from. They also have a Starbucks which is also great!
Dorm Life I don't live on campus, but from what I hear they are very nice!
Academic Rigor Southeast has some classes that are pretty rigorous, but there are also classes that don't have a high difficulty level.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in activities and make friends while you're at school because it makes things a lot better in the long run. Be interactive in classes and keep up with homework.
In three sentences Southeast is a great college! The professors are friendly and willing to help anyone. There are also tons of activities and things to do on campus and the area around it!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Little to no violence and/or illegal activity on-campus or in surrounding area.
Greek Life Seems to be a way to become involved and make life time connections with people you barely knew a couple months ago but end up being best of friends. Standards and requirements to become members are strict but manageable.
Clubs and Activities Large variety of clubs(religious/non-religious) that are diverse usually free of charge and allow you to interact with the general public, get to know a wide variety of people on campus and possibly meet students from across the world.
Great for these types of students Social oriented, individuals who want to experience the university lifestyle without being one of a 100 students in a class. Self-motivated individuals who don't mind receiving additional advice from great teachers and older undergraduate students such as Resident Assistant, graduate assistants, and even athletic coaches who see you in the gym on a regular basis.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None
Bang for the buck The constant renovations to historic buildings, recreation centers, and dorms for the still lower prices compared to other colleges and universities makes choosing Southeast Missouri State University a great choice.
What to do for fun Recreation centers that stay open mostly all day, year round intramural, and other on-campus events allows all to become involved and most that are bored are bored by choice. Active floors in dormitories often lead to competitive matches in video games and even board games.
Food and Dining Just like any other aspect in your life food is good but can become something that you get tired of. There are a few restaurants that have variety and the arrival of Starbucks and Subway always seems to make the good outweigh the bad if you have to eat on-campus.
Dorm Life Dormitory life is usually social, depending on the amount of items you bring space shouldn't be an issue at all. Resident Assistants are great people to get to know and communicate with even when you don't have an issue. Overall clean techniques of custodians and maintenance technicians are above average.
Academic Rigor Academic standards are manageable but exceeding and not just meeting standards should remain the goal of all students. Assistance from professors and graduate assistants is usually available. A degree from an accredited university along with great academic performance usually leads to graduate school acceptance or finding of a career not a job.
Tips for prospective students Upon attending classes it is suggested to know where your classes are and average time to arrive to them from dormitory. Becoming involved in on-campus and even off-campus will make overall educational experience worthwhile. Diversity allows you to possibly make lifetime friends from different races, religion, and other human characteristics.
In three sentences Well-rounded community that has a diverse community of students and teachers that are friendly and are willing to help you as long as you are willing to help yourself. Dining options are complex and constantly expanding. Degree options are widespread and possible to complete in four years or less.

What to do for fun There are so many clubs and student organizations to get involved in. I think if you can't find a club you are interested in, you are not looking hard enough!
Food and Dining The variety is endless. There are food places you would find back home right on campus! Some dorms have good food too, like Merrick Hall.
Dorm Life The rooms are spacey! even the community style housing has just he right amount of space for roommates!
Academic Rigor The education at SEMO is great! Classes are super easy. You can never fall behind.
Tips for prospective students Just be ready to have fun away from home!
In three sentences Southeast has a really nice campus with clean and spacey living options. The food on and off campus is great, the have a wide variety of food to choose from. You don't have to worry about gaining the Freshman 15 because of the hills, so it's easy to stay fit.

Academic Rigor The classes offered through dual credit college courses are challenging and difficult at times. However, I strive to ensure I understand all aspects of each course and make the best grade I am capable of.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students need to ensure they are proficient in studying techniques and taking examinations. The courses offered are courses that are required for my intended major and have given me greater insight into future courses I must register for. Prospective students need to ensure they take the courses offered in the correct order so that they are well prepared for the next course in the ladder of education.
In three sentences I am taking dual credit courses for high school and college credit from Southeast Missouri State University and have completed 2 courses so far.
