Great for these types of students

Southeastern is great for all students. From my experience i have not seen any form of discrimination or hostility targeted towards any one or any kind of difference, and this school offer a variety of courses to accommodate for every academic area of interest.

    Tips for prospective students

There is only one thing say to new students. When you come to Southeastern you should remember to just have a good time because you are home from the moment you step on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Southeastern is worth every penny you out into it. Plus all of the money goes to new dorms, classrooms, and the union. Plus we as students have a vote on what the money is spent on for each of the three. There is a campus wide vote for the students to decide what classes we need, what new restaurant we should have, or how to remodel the dorms.

    Will enjoy being here

The students and faculty are full of hospitality. You feel right at home from the moment you arrive on campus, and every student has the chance to establish a student organization as long as you have 10 or more other students which ensures you to make more friends and gives you that sense of freedom you desire.

    Will learn a lot

Southeastern provides students with the best technology, faculty, and organisations to ensure that students have every opportunity to achieve the highest level of education possible.

    Campus Safety

I feel that Southeastern is one of the safest places one could ever be. When we had someone walk buy and steal another student's cell phone, the staff was informed and immediately started warning students all around campus! That made me feel extremely safe, simply because they care.

    Greek Life

WOW! Greek Life is so much more than just Sororities and Fraternities at Southeastern, it is one big Greek family! Greek Life has impacted my life in so many positive ways. It is a way to help your school, your community, and help others in need. I would highly recommend becoming a member of a Greek Organization at Southeastern.

    Clubs and Activities

Southeastern has many clubs and ways to get involved on campus. Student Government Association (SGA), Honor Societies, Clubs and Groups within majors, Campus Activities Board (CAB), and many others.

Great for these types of students

Southeastern is great for students who do not want to get lost in the crown, students who want to stand out because of their unique talents and abilities. Southeastern is like one big family. I enjoy seeing familiar faces every day while walking to class!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Southeastern Louisiana University has a strong Lion Family. The Alumni Association often attends football games and contribute to the school in many ways. There is a place at Southeastern called Friendship Circle where there is a large oak tree which we call Friendship Oak. It was always a myth that if two people kiss on Friendship Oak, they were sure to be married.

    Bang for the buck

The best investment my family has ever made!!

    What to do for fun

Southeastern offers many activities to students for fun. I like to take advantage of the work out classes in the Student Activities Center. Many other students also like to compete in a friendly match of intramural sports.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is really good. I do not have a meal plan, but I do often pay to eat there. I enjoy having a good home cooked meal. There are also more options in the student union, including ways to eat healthy with a Subway or a smoothie bar.

    Dorm Life

Personally I was not a resident of the dorms at Southeastern University; however, many of my friends were. They often say that even in their senior year they wish they would move back. Very convenient and safe living.

    Academic Rigor

The education that one will receive at Southeastern Louisiana University is unlike any other. Professors care about the students and whether or not they are learning the information. I know that when I enter the work force I will be fully prepared with the knowledge and experience I need.

    Tips for prospective students

Attending Southeastern is one of the best decisions anyone can make. Here one will receive an great education, along with making many lifelong memories. Southeastern has changed my life in so many good ways.

    In three sentences

Southeastern Louisiana University is a home away from home for me. The professors are caring and helpful while maintaining a professional status. I am thankful I made the decision to attend this amazing university.

    Bang for the buck

    Will learn a lot

    Campus Safety

The campus at Southeastern has safety towers scattered all throughout the grounds. They have an emergency call button that automatically connects you to our campus police department. All of the walkways and paths on the campus are very well lit and the campus police do constant patrols throughout the night to ensure campus safety. The safety ratings on Southeastern's campus are impeccable.

    Greek Life

Here at Southeastern, we have over fifteen different Greek Fraternaties and Sororities giving each and every person a chance to meet new people and become a part of the Greek life. Our Fraternaties and Sororoties and very diverse and completely accepting.

    Clubs and Activities

We have a wide variety of Clubs and activities here on campus. If you can think of something, there is, more than likely, a club for that. We have the Student Counsil to help eliminate communication barriers between the staff and the students, we have the Circle K club, which is the higher level Key Club and they are both founded by the Rotary Club. There are intramural sports that you can join, and if it isn't being played already, you can start your own team with only ten signatures. There are a limitless number of things on campus to keep college students busy and active.

Great for these types of students

Southeastern is an ammazing University and is great for any and all types of students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have some of the best campus traditions there are. Every year, we put on the Gumbo YaYa, Strawberry Jubilee, Move In Mania, and so much more. Our mascot, Roomie the Lion, is another sacred tradition and we have an actual Lion that was stuffed sitting in our game room. It is said that if you rub his right paw, you will have good luck. One of the oldest traditions on campus would be Friendship Oak. Located in the center of our campus, we have one of the largest, oldest oak trees in Louisiana. It is said that if you kiss you significant other beneath the tree, you will eventually get married to that person.

    Bang for the buck

Southeastern is the only University in Louisiana to participate in the Rental Textbook program. It allows you to rent out as many books as you need for each class for one flat rate of 45 dollars a class. Whether you need 12 books for one class, of just two books, the rental program allows you to save thousands of dollars in not having to purchase the books yourself. At the end of the semester, you simply return the books you have and check out the books you will need for your future classes. We also have the Pennington Student Activity Center which is a two story, state of the art, gym. Complete with an indoor track and basketball court, the activity center is completely paid for by your tuition so you have full access to it. It is a great way to help students stay in shape.

    What to do for fun

With the amount of entertainment options on campus, you can ensure that you will never be left looking for something to do. We have a campus game room, located above the book store, there are DVD rental machines housed in the Student Union, we have our own post office so that you can keep in touch with your family and friends, and the campus is conveniently located in Downtown Hammond, one of the busiest cities in Louisiana. There are also campus activities going on at all times throught the year. From our famous Gumbo YaYa, to the Strawberry Jubilee, you will always be able to keep busy and stay occupied.

    Food and Dining

Campus dining at Southeastern is remarkable. There is a huge variety of options when it comes to eating on campus. For example, we have the Cayman Cafe', serving a variety of home cooked meals from spaghetti, to tacos, the cafe has it all. It also includes a salad bar, multiple drink stations, a dessert bar, and a stir-fry grill. Also on campus we have Chick Fil A, Taco Bell, Popeye's, Burger King, Subway, and many more options. For all of the late night study sessions and early morning classes, we have two different Starbuck's locations and the campus coffe shop located in the library, Java City.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at Southeastern are impeccable. You have a choice of having either a shared room or your own private dorm. Either choice would be beyond exceptional. You have one shared, full, bathroom and a shared kitchenette area. The rooms are equipped with your own bed, a personal air conditioner, a study desk and chair, a dresser, and a closet with a floor length mirror. The dorm rooms are completely renovated and up to date and, conveniently, are only a 5 minute walk from the library.

    Academic Rigor

Southeastern has one of the best student-to-teacher ratios of any University and that really gives you a sense of academic security and makes you strive to do the best you can. The classes are designed to help each and every student live up to their full academic potential and set you up for success.

    Tips for prospective students

When attending Southeastern, take advantage of the many clubs and organizations the school has to offer. Join a club and become a part of something great. Also utilize the Center for Student Excellence Center(CSE)'s free tutoring program to achieve your academic goals.

    In three sentences

Southeastern Louisiana University is an amazing college. It has an outstanding student-to-teacher ratio and there are tons of clubs and organizations to be a part of. The campus is laid out perfectly to help ensure punctuality and it has a great educational atmosphere.

    What to do for fun

There are not to many things to do in Hammond but SELU is always hosting events from dances to video game tournaments.

    Food and Dining

The food is great at Southeastern. The cafeteria is all you can eat and always a nice meal, whether it be hot or cold.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is very nice there. There are always dorm activities and your RA's are very helpful and friendly.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are said to be a tad easier than most other schools. I feel this not to be true but I do realize that most people who said that came from either a large high school or a larger college. So switching to a smaller school and having more hands on teaching and 1 on 1 time makes school much easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Study, always go to class, and be friendly to your peers. These things will make college life at Southeastern much more enjoyable.

    In three sentences

I like Southeastern a lot, it has many benefits. One benefit is the school is smaller and very homey feeling. Another benefit is that the school always has something going on, or something to do. It is a very nice school and I love going there.

Great for these types of students

Friendship Oak. Located in Friendship Circle, this giant oak tree is more than just a beautiful sight. Rumor has it, the person you kiss under the tree, is the person you will spend the rest of your life with. And for those whose kiss leads to forever, wedding pictures are also very popular under this tremendous tree.

    Bang for the buck

For such an amazing school, tuition is extremely reasonable. Scholarships, loans, and grants are also fairly easy to obtain and can get you through all four years at SELU.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

southeastern tuition is not as expensive as other colleges. and the classroom settings are more personal.

    What to do for fun

if you are looking for on campus fun, greek life would be something to look into. also southeastern has a work out center and a union to catch up with friends between classes

    Food and Dining

their cafeteria has many different food choices. delicious meals that are better than any fast food choices. it's only a step below a true home cooked meal.

    Dorm Life

although i do not personally live in a dorm i do have a friend that does. i have stayed at her dorm and it's very comfortable. it's being away from home without completely leaving. to me it seems like the best of both worlds.

    Academic Rigor

the classes that i have taken so far have been challenging, but not to the point that a class is not passable. if you study and go to class than the classes won't be too hard.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are looking for a college with a friendly atmosphere than i suggest that you look into southeastern. another tip would be to figure out what you want for yourself and to go after it with all you have. reaching your goals may not be easy, but it will be worth it.

    Greek Life

greek organizations are loads of fun are quite the experience. i would advise every one to seriously look in to any of the greek organizations.

    Clubs and Activities

there is a club and activity for anything any one could possible be interested in. should one find something of interest excluded from this list, it is not difficult for one to start their own club/organization.

Great for these types of students

southeastern is great for any personality and/or learning style. there are many other students walking the school that do not interfere in any way with each other, making the school perfect in range from the socially awkward, to the social butterfly. as long as one takes classwork and assignments seriously, success is achievable.

    Bang for the buck

southeastern is an accredited university with over 90 degree programs. the largest teacher-student ratio is less than 1 : 100. the ratio reaches it's maximum mainly in entry level courses that are required for all students. selu offers numerous scholarships to qualifying students, while tuition/fees are relatively reasonable. nearby universities (such as lsu) with the same level of accreditation offer a staggeringly higher teacher-student ratio, approaching levels of 1 : 1000, which severely limits the chances of receiving one-on-one attention from one's course instructor. selu offers multiple scholarships for every one that can definitely be attained by the average student, whereas lsu offers scholarships mainly only to the highest-ranking students. essentially, southeastern offers more opportunities, less rigorous course work, and a smaller cost of attendance than all neighboring universities with equivalent levels of accreditation. southeastern defines the phrase bang for the buck.

    What to do for fun

southeastern is dedicated to getting students involved with each other. aside from meeting new people in and outside of class, there is always something new to do. if i don't see a physical flyer posted somewhere on campus, i will definitely receive an e-mail about an event, just about every day. southeastern continuously encourages it's students and residents to come out and have fun at all campus activities, to get involved in organizations/clubs, and to network with those in similar fields.

    Food and Dining

a large cafeteria featuring all-you-care-to-eat dining is located in the same complex as a chic-fil-a and a quizno's. this complex is a very short walk from virtually every location on campus. this complex neighbors the student union across the street. the union features a large selection of familiar corporate eateries. taste and variety are never an issue at southeastern.

    Dorm Life

there are many different dorm buildings to choose from, as well as many opportunities to live alone or with a roommate. the dorm buildings are very close to the primary educational facilities on campus, allowing for a stress-free stroll to and from class. there are some important rules governing dorm life. following these rules is absolutely essential as the consequences for disobedience strongly outweigh the benefits.

    Academic Rigor

you can definitely achieve a 4.0 without completely sacrificing all of your free time.

    Tips for prospective students

making a 3.0 minimum with ease: arrive to class on time every day. ensure you take detailed notes, and review them in your free time between classes. that's it.

    In three sentences

southeastern has devoted a spectacular level of effort to encompassing the needs of each student. the curricula used throughout the numerous degree programs are indeed challenging, but admittance is not as difficult; practically everybody gets a chance. the university has efficiently allocated resources into appropriate places, and they continue to enhance the college experience each day.

If a couple kisses under Friendship Oak they are destined to be married.

    Bang for the buck

If your grades are top notch the university will hand you a free ride and extra money for graduating in four years. If you have just one difficult class, they will write you off and leave you to fend for yourself.

    What to do for fun

There are many ways to get involved in Southeastern. There is always a sporting event going on and although the football team isn't the best it is still a lot of fun to go to the games. Greek life is amazing and so much fun (if you can swing the high cost). There is a club for almost everything. Also, there is usually some kind of cool get together or project going on around campus. For example, on Thursdays the union is crawling with things to do.

    Food and Dining

The food is great during the week. There are many options on campus ranging from fried, unhealthy foods to vegan and sushi. The cafeteria cooks amazing food with many options. Unfortunately, all restaurants on campus close pretty early.

    Dorm Life

The dorms often have a waiting list and they aren't really worth the amount you pay for them, as it costs just as much to have a two-bedroom apartment. The walls are paper-thin so your neighbors can hear everything that goes on in your room. Also, often times, even if you request a roommate you will not be with him or her and instead will have a random roommate. It is nice to be so close to campus however, there is nothing open on campus between Friday and Sunday so if you don't have a fridge you have to rely on eating out.

    Academic Rigor

The teaching staff is amazing as well as the curriculum.

    Tips for prospective students

The school's offices are slow and will not help you out; if you need something done you must be persistent and stay on top of it yourself. There are many amenities on campus that are free such as the gym, prints in the computer labs, counselors, cub cash, etc; take advantage of them because they can really be useful and you secretly pay for them in your tuition. Don't be hesitant about eating in the cafeteria, the food is great and if you get a meal plan it's so much cheaper than any other lunch.

    In three sentences

The professors are amazing; they truly want to help the students learn and they are experts on the material they teach. The school's offices are slow. People on campus are very friendly.

Great for these types of students

Southeastern is a good school for anyone who wants to attend a small University. It's very friendly and not too overwhelming. From my observation, Southeastern gets a lot of transfer students from larger universities who have found college life a little overwhelming. Southeastern sets a good pace to academically follow. You will see numerous students sitting on the lawn in front of the memorial studying.

    Food and Dining

Southeastern has a several fast food places on campus in the Lions Den including Subway, Tacco Bell, and Popey's. It also has a few coffee and smoothie shops that are top notch! My only complaint is that the Lions Den is not open on the weekend. Southeastern also has the Camon Cafe' which is a predominantly used buffet by the students living on campus. The food is just as good as a home cooked meal! There is currently a new two story one about to be built that many students can't wait for!

    Dorm Life

Southeastern has over seven dorms to choose from ranging from honors, private, or shared. The Southeastern Housing Office does a great job making life interesting by putting on monthly programs and giving away free stuff like T-shirts! The library stays open late as well as the 24 hour lab and it is easier to travel back to the cozy dorms than to go back home. From experience it can be fun, but I have herd of other bad experiences. Some living situations can be taken care of if you are having trouble with a roommate, and the college will gladly take care of any problems within the dorm itself such as air conditioner problems.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at SLU are well focused on and they should be. The college strives to show the importance of academics, but distractions are all about the campus and students must keep in mind why they are at college.

Although Southeastern Louisiana University let me down a little I still enjoy what the college does offer such as the book rental.

    Campus Safety

Southeastern has its very own police force that patrols campus on a regular basis. There are safety poles that all you have to do is push a button if there is an emergency and the police will be there within five minutes. These poles are located at many points all around campus.

    Greek Life

There are many Greek organizations at SELU.

    Bang for the buck

A far a bang for the buck, Southeastern blows other colleges away. There are an abundance of university supplied scholarships. For example there is the Progression Scholarship that reduces your tuition every year, and by the time you are a senior you only have to pay 50 percent of the tuition.

    What to do for fun

There are a variety of recreational activities on campus. There is a recreational center that houses a work out area, an indoor track, multiple basketball courts, a racket ball room, and a ping pong table. Work out classes are offered for free to students. Southeastern also puts on a multitude of student organizations that provide mud volleyball, slip and slides, a strawberry festival, and free food events.

    Food and Dining

Southeastern has a wide variety of food and dining options ranging from Italian food to sushi. There are also coffee shops throughout campus, such as Starbucks. There is a place in the union that is called the Lions den that houses different vendors such as Popeyes, Burger King, and Taco Bell. The Cafeteria is a buffet style dining option that has a variety of foods such as Asian and a sandwich station. There are other restaurants around campus like Chick Fil A and Quiznos. Southeastern males sure that no one goes hungry on campus!

    Dorm Life

The dorms on Southeastern's campus are very nice. You have your choice of a shared dorm or a private dorm. They are a reasonable size and are kept clean and well maintained. Each dorm has a personal shower. Overall, campus life is not too shabby.

    Academic Rigor

Southeastern Louisiana University is ranked high academically in my book. The classes are well organized and prepare you for your intended profession, all while maintaining a small classroom setting. This small setting allows you to maintain a one on one relationship with your professors in order to further acclimate your knowledge.

    Tips for prospective students

A tip I would give to prospective students would be to go into college full force and take it seriously. Your education is important and there will be plenty of time to party after you receive your degree. Set priorities early on and keep your eye on the prize!

    In three sentences

Southeastern is a wonderful institution for higher learning. The schools campus is clean and well kept. Academically, SELU is top notch and well respected by many.

Many dedicated fraternities and sororities, many to choose from. An entire section of campus for Greek housing.

    Clubs and Activities

This school is a very club and group oriented university. There is so much to choose from as far as getting involved in the university and interacting with classmates.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are small but comfortable, as well as clean. They are close by everything on campus such as the library and the student union.

    Academic Rigor

This school is relatively academically rigorous but not as challenging as the next school. The material is presented at a steady pace in nearly every class, with the exception of the basic honors classes.

    In three sentences

A small enough school for students that are comfortable with a more personal connection with the instructor (approx 20,000 students). What to do for fun

For fun, I either play my video games or go to the gym workout or play basketball. I don't really do too much outgoing or getting into things.

    Food and Dining

The food here is good. You have all the different types of food places to choose from in which is awesome. If you don't want to eat in the cafe, they have common food places that people eat when they're in town, like Burger King, Popeyes, Taco Bell, etc., I love it!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is awesome, especially if you are a incoming Freshman. You are close to all events and able to catch things that is happening on campus. I experienced a lot living in the Dorms. I didn't have to pay any utilities each month because it's already paid for. My room in, which I live in a private one, I have my own privacy even though me and my roommate gets along very well. I am able to have my me time, most of the time, in which I like to do.

    Academic Rigor

Being a college student here at Southeastern, I believe in pursuing excellence in learning new and great things, seeing different surroundings and learning experiences that are challenging, creative and engaging. My goal as being a college student is to become the best I can be without letting negativity overpower me.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, college can be a great way to bettering yourself mentally, physically or academically. We all need higher education to touch up on things that need to be fulfilled in life. If you're planning on attending college, make sure that you come to school for the right reasons and not for to just say I went but didn't finish all because you didn't put it in your all, failing, not attending classes,or want to be the center of attention. That's not what you want to do. But if you want to be the center of the attention, do it for a good cause. Like excelling academically with being in organizations and doing multiple things; being able to balance it out. I'll be glad to be the center of the attention then. So, come to college with a great mind set and able to have a some fun.

    In three sentences

I give this school a 8.7 out of 10. It has a nice environment and if you are looking for a home type of environment or relaxing school, then you've come to the right place. Also, if you're not too much of a party person and can deal without parties although there are parties but not a lot like some other schools, then this is a nice option.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is a priority on this campus with blue button located conviently near each building. One push of a button and help is sent.

    Greek Life

I personally do not get along with any of the greeks because on this campus they are very rude and like always attempt to brain wash you before you join.

    Clubs and Activities

I dont give clubs and activities 4 stars because some of the clubs do not get along or are made fun of by the rest of the clubs. Two examples of the odd balls would be Sigma Tau Delta (English honors which mostly call STD) and the Southeastern Society for Japanese Animation (these people are amazing, welcoming, and once you are friends will any one of them the rest welcome you with open arms. They are called the Anime Club. Most have had a rough upbringing so they are very understanding of all situations and how it feels to be an outcast. Be prepared that some conversations are not appropiate for everyone. You dont have to like anime to join just dont talk down to any persons views and you will be welcome)

Great for these types of students

this univesity is great for any type of student from the extereme hardworkers to the weed smokers we cover it all.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are not really and unusual things on this campus but there are a few legends and stories that are told. One example is that if you kiss your love under friendship oak you will marry that person.

    Bang for the buck

This college is amazing. The professors are very helpful and understanding if you need them. The southern hospitality is amazing I love the feeling of being welcomed by open arms.

    What to do for fun

For fun I usually go to Friendship Circle with some friends and our guitars. There is also a nightlife option for those into going to clubs. I dont do clubs so I cant say anything about them.

    Food and Dining

The only reason that I give food a 3 is that there are no healthy food options here. They offer fast food. pasta, pizza, cafeteria, or sushi but not too many other options. I would like more healthy options but it is liviable.

    Dorm Life

I live in the honors dorm. It is quiet all except thursday night since it is equivilent to the normal friday night on this campus. There are two seperate bed rooms (one person per room) with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Everyone is incredibly nice

    Academic Rigor

Some classes and teachers are really hard and others are so easy that you could have skipped class and gotten an A. The classes are smaller and more focused on a specific topic (mostly unless it is a general education course). It gets confusing from time to time what classes are required vs just being suggested. Upperclassman are always willing to help and so are the faculty.

    Tips for prospective students

This university is not a large over the top university like LSU. I like the more hometown feel where one weekends friends that you make will take you to their house so that you are not left alone in the dorms. Southeastern runs on a 4 days a week schedule (monday to thursday) with a half day on friday. Be ready to have fun, work your butt off, and stress out on this campus. But in the end its worth it.

    In three sentences

This university is large enough not to feel like a high school but still small enough to offer a hometown feel that makes you feel safe. Construction is going on to double the size of the student union (the central point of the university) but it isn't too much of a problem. When deciding who to take for classes ask an upperclassman they are willing to give you suggestions on who to take your first semester.

    Campus Safety

The school has large blue towers with emergency buttons on them when pressed contact the campus police. These towers are spread all throughout the campus and at least 3 are in sight at all times. The police are kind and friendly and they give you a sense of safety.

    Clubs and Activities

For students who can't or don't want to join a Southeastern sports team there is always the option of an Innermural team. There are teams for any sport you choose. For example: tennis, baseball, basketball, and soccer only a few. Anyone can put together a team and then compete with other teams on campus.

Great for these types of students

Southeastern is great for students who want to focus on academics. Unlike LSU, Southeastern is definitely NOT a party school. There are vey few options for partying so students are forced to study.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a large oak tree in Friendship Circle that has an interesting legend. It says if you kiss your boyfriend/girlfriend underneath it you two will surely get married in the future.

    Bang for the buck

At Southeastern you get all the benefits of a much more expensive college for less. The college offers a much bigger selection of scholarship than most, and they offer a reduction of tuition fees if you complete a certain number of hours each semester.

    What to do for fun

If you get tired of studying there always many things you can do for fun. The school has a wonderful gym that you can use to either work out or play games. Greeks are always putting on events that have free food and activities.

    Food and Dining

The school cafeteria is the best one I have ever been too. It has a large selection of food that changes often and has a kind staff. There are also many options for food on campus, around the cafeteria, and in the Union. Southeastern is also surrounded by a large number of restaurants, and many of them offer discounts to students.

    Dorm Life

Southeastern dorms are by far the best. I reside in a honors dorm so it is always quiet and peaceful, and our Residence Assistant is very kind. The rooms are a good size, and any problems that occur will quickly be fixed by maintenance.

    Academic Rigor

The school is very academically focused. Teachers encourage you to do the best you can and study hard. In order to motivate students further, Southeastern offers scholarships to students that have good academic standing.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to stay strong from start to finish. In the beginning you may be tempted to party and not focus on your studies, and close to the end you will simply want to give up. Try your hardiest the entire semester and you are guaranteed good grades.

    In three sentences

Southeastern is a wonderful school for someone who wants a great education, but doesn't want to pay an exorbitant amount of money. The campus is easy go navigate and very beautiful. Smaller classes allow teachers to actually care about their students and give help when needed.

    Campus Safety

The campus is extremely safe. There are cameras and emergency call boxes across the entire campus and there is a private campus police station which monitors and regularly patrols the entire campus. Dorm halls require a card key for access and automatically lock. Overall, its a safe bet.

    Greek Life

There are plenty of opportunities for involvement with the 'Greek Life', though I haven't personally been involved. Many of the fraternities and Sororities have special housing and events, both on and off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs and activities to join in, from common things such as fraternities and student government to little niches such as the Japanese Animation Society. Most departments also have a program for their students as well.

Great for these types of students

It's great for new students, especially those who want to get the feel of being more independent. It is also a great place to recreate and rediscover yourself, especially with the abundance of extracurricular activities. The college offers great flexibility and a quality education at a great price, so its ideal for everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There isn't much out of the ordinary, though there are a few note-worthy events, such as the Strawberry Jam, a tailgating party, mud-volleyball, and a few parties here and there throughout the semester.

    Bang for the buck

SELU is an affordable post-secondary school, with a high-quality education behind it. You'll be sure to get your money's worth, which due to the help of the Financial Aid and Scholarship offices, may be little to no cost to you. Personally, from scholarships and grants, I was even able to get a refund check to help with personal expenses.

    What to do for fun

There's plenty of on-campus activities and groups, as well as numerous places to go, such as Hammond Square. Just meet up with friends and pick a place.

    Food and Dining

The on-campus cafe offers a wide selection of meals and is open from 7AM to 8PM. The food is delicious and the meals are covered in your meal plan if you have a dorm. If you don't have a meal plan, the meals are cheaper than most restaurants, with a cost of about $7 a meal. The cafe is all you can eat, so you are sure to get your money's worth. There are also numerous restaurants on campus, all of which are great, ranging from Popeye's to Subway to Taco Bell.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are all in good repair and secure. Both private and shared dorms are available, both of which are spacious for a dorm. Each dorm has an individual air-conditioning unit, which allows for better comfort. The maintenance staff is friendly and helpful if a problem should occur. However, the shared dorms lack a kitchen area and one of the dorm halls. Zachary Taylor, has a community bathroom. All other dorms have private housing though. Overall, the dorms are excellent and well-maintained.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are taught by well-qualified professors and cover all of the materiel in each course. Though there may be additional knowledge departed upon you, the professors work with you rather well and will help you as needed. Also, there is free tutoring available so you can take classes at ease and get any help you need outside of class if you cannot meet with your professor.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to fill out all paperwork and applications as soon as possible to ensure the best placement and financial awards for you. Be open to speaking to the staff as they are all friendly and extremely helpful. It would be a good idea to stop by the Financial Aid and Scholarship office also, as they can likely help you get additional scholarships or grants. Overall, the best advice I can give is to be open to seeking help from staff.

    In three sentences

Southeastern University has excellent staff, both welcoming and knowledgeable. The school is a safe environment with plenty of amenities ready at hand. The school is cost-effective and an overall great place, definitely worth your consideration.

There are always campus police on campus at anytime. There are also blue kiosk that the campus police will answer to if you need them in case of a danger. Someone is always available in case of an emergency.

    What to do for fun

On campus, there are many clubs and organizations to join and become part of. There are always activities going on through out the year such as the strawberry jam during football season, SGA activities, and many get together things for students. There are also sororities/fraternities to join and to fun things with.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is always trying out new dishes and giving different healthy and vegetarian options. The food is pretty good, but if you don't use the cafeteria, the union has many other options. They have different food choices for everyone.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is very convenient for many students. If you have a large break in between classes, its a great place to take a break. The dorms are also fairly close to the cafeteria where food is always being made that tend to be close to Louisiana flavor.

    Academic Rigor

Southeastern does actually have a difficult academia. The teachers try to push you to do you best, and are always there to help you with what you are having trouble with. Classes are not a breeze to get by, but it does take some effort to do well.

    Tips for prospective students

First time students, I recommend getting a dorm on campus for at least the first year. The dorms make everything more easily accessible, especially if you end up with a very early class and food is always closely available. Also, start with your more general class in case you quickly decide to change majors.

    In three sentences

Southeastern Louisiana University is a good school for students from Louisiana. The campus is fairly close together and within walking distance. Teachers are there to help you and are fairly enthusiastic about their selected subject.

There are huge blue alarm buttons all around campus and the campus police are always very quick to respond. Additionally, a key or student id is needed to get into any of the residence halls. A downside of having great security is lots of tickets- the police give out tickets like candy.

    Greek Life

The Greek life is really involved on campus and throughout the community.

    Clubs and Activities

It seems like there is a club for anything. And if there isn't, you only need ten students and a faculty member to create a club.

Great for these types of students

Students who are looking for the college experience at a lower price.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you are kissed or you kiss someone under friendship oak then you will marry that person.... I haven't tested it, but I don't get too close to the tree just in case.

    Bang for the buck

Southeastern gives great scholarships - the southeastern honor's scholarship is available to almost everyone and once you're a sophomore most people are eligible for the progression scholarship. Also, at SELU we rent our textbooks through the campus instead of buying them, very cost-effective.

    What to do for fun

I've said it before and I'll say it again, GET INVOLVED. The greek life is great and it encompasses a little bit of everything for everyone. The campus is really full of commuters so for the people who stay in the area Greek life is the way to go as the city of Hammond itself is pretty lame.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria hours can be inconvenient and there isn't very much to choose from in the union however, the school is currently expanding the union so hopefully there will be more options coming soon.

    Dorm Life

I live on campus. My freshman year I lived in a dorm with a random (very strange) roommate and I was uncomfortable so I decided moving off campus would solve all my problems. I couldn't have been more wrong! After one semester ten miles from school I moved back and now I love it! The food is great, the people are awesome, the RA's are very helpful, and the price is just right.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Join student organizations, eat in the cafeteria, live on campus, go greek, attend all the football games just do it all. College is so stressful and without a little bit of fun you'll be miserable. You'll quickly learn how different college is from high school and you'll be wishing you can stay forever.... if only tuition wasn't so high!

    In three sentences

SELU has a great campus and has truly created it's own little community. It is very easy to get involved on campus as there is something for everyone. While getting a degree here students learn life lessons that will stick with them and be very helpful in the working world.

Southeastern is a good school for students looking for a small campus, personal experiences with professors, and a comfortable environment to study in. There seem to be many clubs and activities at this school. I have read about many honor societies and intramural sport teams and I am sure there are many other things for all types of people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a friendship circle that I saw on the map but did not get a chance to visit, so that seems like an unusual location that I am interested in seeing.

    Bang for the buck

This school is cheaper than my previous one but still a little pricey. There seem to be more scholarship opportunities though so I end up paying way less which is great!

    What to do for fun

There are many extracurriculars for this school. Greek life seems most fun to my interests but there are also many other opportunities to join clubs or intramural sports.

    Food and Dining

I did not get a meal plan because I never lived on campus but again, I have heard great things. They seem to have lots of options so everyone is pleased.

    Dorm Life

I have not and will never live in the dorms but from what I have seen and heard they are rather nice. Most are single rooms that share a bathroom or kitchen which seems much better than other campuses that make you share a room with a possible stranger.

    Academic Rigor

This is one of the more difficult schools to get into so they must take academics seriously. It isn't as hard to get in as say LSU, but you still have to have decent grades to get in and keep them up to stay there.

    Tips for prospective students

The only tips I have for prospective students is to familiarize yourself with the campus ahead of time. Many of the buildings have names but don't say what the building is for. Was it a dorm or a classroom? I could not tell. Also, look into scholarships because there are a ton available.

    In three sentences

Southeastern Louisiana University seems to be a high quality school. When I visited the campus I felt like the smaller size and close knit community of students was very refreshing as opposed to the massiveness of my previous school. I am very much looking forward to starting there in the fall!

    What to do for fun

I was on the dance team, which was a lot of fun. There is always something to do on campus so you are never bored. There are activities in the union constantly and the bulletin boards around campus are always filled with things to do.

    Food and Dining

    Academic Rigor

I have known people that have transferred to and from LSU and they all say the same thing. The only difference is the attention you get from your professor and the number of people in the classroom. As far as the information, it is all the same but at Southeastern it is easier to understand due to the fact that you have a relationship with your teacher and you are not just a number.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a campus that is not too overwhelming or classes that are a little more intimate i suggest Southeastern all the way. The faculty is very helpful and knowledgeable and take great pride in their school. I have found in the three years I have attended Southeastern that my personal experience has been fantastic and I have enjoyed my college experience!

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

Southeastern has a great department of police. They're located right in the middle of campus and they patrol the area non-stop. People love to jog around campus and you feel pretty safe even when walking to your car at 2 a.m. On top of that, the Hammond Police are pretty much always around too, since they're a few blocks away.

    Greek Life

A bunch of options here, and they all seem to be pretty active. Southeastern has a really (REALLY) strict no-hazing policy so everyone has much more good-natured fun than you see in the movies. You go out of the whole process with new brothers and sisters that you keep for the rest of your life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of different organizations to choose from, from Greek Life to honors programs to interest clubs to activist organizations. Not happy with the choices? It's really really easy to start your own.

    Bang for the buck

Southeastern is really affordable, and there are a ton of scholarship options, and from everything I've seen you can really get a great education here. Whether it's your first time college experience or you're looking to continue your education later in life, there's extremely flexible schedules and classes that can really help you in life. And most of the professors have experience in their fields and can guide you and teach you more.

    What to do for fun

This one is definitely dependent on how you choose to spend your college time. Hammond has it's share of good restaurants and some bars, along with some cool festivals. Because you're so close to New Orleans, there's a ton of festivals and parades and stuff to do. There's pretty decent shopping in Hammond, and of course New Orleans and Baton Rouge are each about an hours' drive.

    Food and Dining

There are a bunch of options for eating on and right off campus. They're expanding the union currently to hold even more places, and the dining hall is great 9 times out of 10.

    Dorm Life

This is word-of-mouth for me--I've only ever lived off campus. Depending on the dorm you get, your experience will be good or bad. I've heard great things about the Greek Life housing and also the on-campus apartments.

    Academic Rigor

Southeastern is kind of divided--the nursing program is one of the best in the state and is fairly competitive and hard. At the same time, there are some majors that you really can sort of skirt through your classes and make decent grades. Ultimately though, if you really want to learn, every professor I've met seems totally willing to talk and help outside of classes.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking to attend, definitely apply. It's not too hard to get in, and if you're grades are pretty good, you can usually get some kind of financial aid. You can use Southeastern purely for the education, or you can have the true experience of a university with friends and college spirit and involvement.

    In three sentences

Southeastern is a really quaint, smaller university that really fits diverse needs. Whether you're looking for the full college experience (good football, Homecoming, tons of organizations) or you just want to take some great classes (a lot of people are commuter students), I think this is a great choice. There are a bunch of major options, and with some really high ranking programs (nursing, education, an Emmy-winning TV station), it's a great place to attend.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is taken seriously here at Southeastern. There are plenty of police officers and all around campus we have blue lights that if you push a button, they contact help immediately. If these buttons are abused people pay a fine up to 500$.

    Greek Life

Unfortunately most of our Greeks are what you would see on T.V. the crazy party ones. Unless you join a sorority/fraternity specific to your major (Music, Education, ect.), there is not much to get out of it.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities are limited. Unless you join a sorority or fraternity most everything else is religious based. I am not interested in religious groups.

Great for these types of students

It is great for every type of students. We have so many cultures here that are celebrated and noticed. It shows in our food, and it shows in the people around campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Friendship Oak is in the middle of the campus and there's a rumor that if you and your Significant Other kiss under the tree, you will get married.

    Bang for the buck

It's one of the cheaper schools here in Louisiana yet it seems like some things are expensive here on campus.

    What to do for fun

I am in the Woman's Choral and I play Pokemon. In Woman's Choral I am surrounded by people who love music just as much as I do and aren't judgmental if you can't hit a note just right on the first day.

    Food and Dining

With plenty of options anybody can have the kind of food they would like. Some of the food you pay CubCash for, others you use meals from your meal plan. No matter what it is all delicious.

    Dorm Life

It can be loud and you don't know when somebody will decide to be loud. They make you take a survey yet it doesn't really seem to effect anything. Maintenance is slow. Yet there is a bright side. It's a place where you get to meet people that you would have never met if you didn't share a dorm. It opens your eyes to other cultures and experiences.

    Academic Rigor

It can be challenging if you take certain classes. For the most part if you just ask teachers for help they are willing to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

Follow deadlines, they will sneak up on you and if you miss it; too late! 8:00 A.M classes aren't that bad. Always try to stay on your teacher's good side.
