There are a lot of attractions nearby the school, but many tend to be somewhat expensive. I would recommend getting a DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) pass, which is only $5 and can take you numerous places around the city. Within just a few miles of SMU there is North Park Mall, Mockingbird Station (restaurants, stores, and a movie theater), the start of the Katy Trail (which leads to the American Airlines Center downtown), and much more. There is also a lot to do on campus because so many of the organizations put on events almost every night of the week. Also on the weekends the fraternities and sororities put on parties at clubs/bars downtown that anyone can attend.

Dallas has a booming social life. There is a party every night through some organization. Dallas offers concerts, fairs, shopping, food and fun. Dallas has a phenomenal mix of class and country.

I spend a lot of time volunteering. There are a lot of awesome organizations that do a lot to help the Dallas community and SMU campus community. Whatever you're interest you should be able to find a organization where you can foster that interest. A lot of the students party, and when they do they party hard. Our campus has an issue with alcohol and drugs, but if you're not that type of person you can find things to do it's just meeting the right people and making the right friends so you guys can do things together. Getting involved is a good way to meet people. There are also a lot of campus events run by student organizations that give students fun things to do. There are also places to go off campus. Places to eat, dance clubs, and the arts district. It's basically what you make of it. If you want to have fun you can have fun, you just have to make it happen and look for things to do because there's a lot to do.

Hang out with friends! It's really easy to find people to go country dancing with, or people who are headed to the mall on a Saturday, or people who want to have an all-day movie marathon. Netflix is a good go-to, too, whether you're in a group or alone. Just make sure you take care of your other responsibilities, too!

There are plenty of school events to go to, especially the sports stuff, and I'm not aware if the school specifically bans parties, so there's that. You can also take the bus off campus for some fun, and they have this taxi-type-service thing where they'll take you back to campus regardless of where you're at, no questions asked. The bus is free and provided by the school, but the taxi-service-thing, I'm not sure about.

Boulevarding is the amazing tailgating and tenting experience that happens before every home football game at SMU. The greek life at SMU is the main source for parties and such, which usually take at a bar in Dallas.

There are hundreds of clubs to participate in and the University hosts large events on a weekly basis. Greek culture is very large on campus and many people go out to parties once or twice a week.

There are many opportunities for fun in the Dallas, Texas community. Pretty much anything you want to do is a short distance away from campus.
