Great for these types of students

Great for athletes, outgoing, energetic people.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard right from the start. If you don't do well your first year, your GPA will stay low. It's hard to get it up from being low, so start high. Don't procrastinate, it will bite you in the end.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty reasonable. Look for scholarships, there are lots of opportunities. Take the time to write an essay or whatnot, it is worth it when you won't have any loans in the end.

    Am enjoying being here

I love SCSU. It is a great school, big enough, but small enough to where you recognize a lot of people every day.

    Am learning a lot

Although the core classes can be quite a joke. I do remember bits and pieces that may for some odd reason help me later in life.

Great for these types of students

Anyone and everyone. There are students from all over the world, many different backgrounds, and perspectives on life. I guarantee you will find someone just like you.

    Tips for prospective students

SCSU is known for it's partying, and there is a lot of that going on at campus but stay focused and remember that you are in college to get an education for your future. You have the rest of your life to party so don't waste the money on tuition if you're not going to try.

    Bang for the buck

The education is exactly what I would expect for what I pay. The price is very reasonable compared to other campus' around the area. All in all, you get what you work for. So if you want a great education and you work hard for it SCSU will offer it to you. But if you just want to get by and don't really care, that's what you'll get.

    Am enjoying being here

The people on SCSU campus are great! Everybody always has a ton of energy and you can always find something to do. There are a lot of programs and different entertainment things to do every day. There's never a dull moment on campus.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are just right here and you are able to get to know professors if you try. If you want a good education you can certainly get one here but if you just want to party, you won't be alone. College is different than high school, you do have to try and study to learn but it's not difficult and SCSU has a lot of resources to help you out.

Great for these types of students

People who love to be social and aren't afraid of making new friends are going to blossom here. Dorming your first year is the best way to meet new people. People who are coming internationally will also love SCSU. We have a large population of international students and have made a lot of accommodations for them to still feel at home.

    Tips for prospective students

Know what you are getting into before you come. Make sure you look into your majors of interest before you apply. SCSU offers tours and Saturdays @ State events. These are a great way to figure out if SCSU fits you and your families needs. You can also take a drive around town to see what the City of St. Cloud has to offer. There are many Churches and restaurants for your convenience.

    Bang for the buck

There is so much to do here and with all that SCSU has to offer with the wide variety of culture and activities, that I can't believe I am paying under $10, 000 a year to go here. They have great programs that at any other college, you would be paying over $20, 000 a semester to attend. If you dorm and have a meal plan, you'll be getting the most of your college education because you never have to leave campus!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy living close to campus, as well as living in the dorms last year. SCSU has concerts and speakers come from all over the world for our entertainment and different interests. Last year Plain White Tee's, Ne-Yo, and Snow Patrol came. Not to mention all the student organized activities. There are talent shows, visual arts performances, and a lot of other activities right on campus. The city isn't too bad either. Crossroads Mall isn't but a 5 minute drive away, and the grocery stores are even closer. St. Cloud Metro (bus system) runs 7 days a week and stops right in front of our Miller Center Library (on campus). So you can go to and from anywhere very easily. Did I mention the SCSU Hockey team? Those games are a blast to go to as well.

    Am learning a lot

SCSU has a lot to offer. They have a great Nursing program, they are highly recognized for their Education programs (Special Ed., Sports Ed., etc.), and the Business programs are some of the best in the nation. I love that all my teachers aren't locals. SCSU makes sure that you learn as much as you can about new things before you apply to your major. The General Education classes are very interesting and you have a bunch to chose from.

Great for these types of students

SCSU is a great school for basically anyone.

    Tips for prospective students

The only tip that I can give incoming students is to be open to other ethnicities and cultures.

    Bang for the buck

I do believe that I get my money's worth at SCSU. Of course, as a college student with financial difficulties (just like every other college student) I would like college to be less expensive. I think that if colleges lowered their tuition costs, more people would then attend college.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy being at SCSU. There is great diversity which makes the campus very colorful. SCSU is definately a melting pot.

    Am learning a lot

I do believe that I have learned a lot from my professors at SCSU. For the most part, they make themselves available to students. The only downfall I have encountered is the English speaking abilities of some teachers. I recently had a teacher where I could not understand a word, therefore it was very difficult for me to take notes. He explained to us that his tests are formulated 50% by his lecture notes. This was a great disadvantage to me and my fellow classmates.

Great for these types of students

This school is great if you are interested in sports, or are into multicultural activities! It also is good if you enjoy a large school size with an easy to adapt to campus. Students who enjoy doing things off campus will also really enjoy it because the city of Saint Cloud has a lot to offer!

    Tips for prospective students

Look at all the things when applying to a college- make sure your happy with the city, the clubs, the class room sizes and the living space! If your going to be living somewhere for 9 months, you might as well enjoy it and make the best out of it!

    Bang for the buck

The school is a pretty decent price for what you can get out of it. Most of the classrooms have a small amount of people which makes learning easier-and hey, your at college to learn right?

    Am enjoying being here

This school offers many activities and since it is a large school there is always something going on. There are many people here and many different groups. One things that people like about this school is the diversity. My favorite things are the hockey games, the on campus restaurants, and my friends.

    Am learning a lot

There are so many different classes that are available to take and it gives you the opportunity to learn what you want to learn. I have learned a lot of stuff that I learned in high school, the only difference is that you go more in depth in college. College gives the chance to learn things that are not always possible in high school.

Great for these types of students

If you like to be active, love adventures, and like to meet new people than this is the school for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Have an open mind, start out your freshman semesters studying hard and watching your GPA. If you mess up your first semester it is a long hard road to get it back up. Great place to meet international people and broaden your horizons. Oh, and networking is key. Make friends and connections with the professors and administration. You never know where those connections may lead.

    Bang for the buck

Reasonably priced, but when it comes to text books try and buy them on ebay or amazon cause you will be spending too much on books if you buy them from the book store on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is small enough to know people but big enough that you don't know everybody.

    Am learning a lot

You learn a ton in a short time. Some core classes will be easy and produce a lot of busy work, but if you get through those you should be well on your way to greatness. The people and the teachers provide a wide area for learning, and if you are open to new things and people you will find that this is the school for you.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who loves to attend sporting events, especially hockey since they are a Divison 1 hockey team. Thoes who like to get involved in clubs, they have a club for anything you can imagine!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to set rules with your roommate, such as if you are going out that when you come back you won't be loud, or every other week you take out the trash or if you are talking on the phone go out in the hallway. Get involved as much as you can, you want to meet alot of people and network as much as you can, it will help you further down the road. Make sure to bring something that reminds you of home, whether it be a pillow, or a blanket that smells like your house, it's always nice to have a reminder of home :)

    Bang for the buck

Everything was priced basically how it was where I came from. The only thing that got a tad bit pricey was food from Pizza Hut or Burger King :P

    Did enjoy being here

I loved being in St. Cloud. The city was perfect size, nothing was too far away and it was close enough to the airport in the Twin Cities and the University of Minnesota.

    Did learn a lot

I loved the learning environment here and the teachers were always willing to help you. They would even give you their cell phone numbers in case of an emergency or you just needed personal help.

    Campus Safety

There are blue emergency lights all across campus and campus security is always moving around. However, because St. Cloud is a larger town, I wouldn't venture too far off campus alone.

    Greek Life

You don't really hear much about Greek life here. There really isn't a Greek row like larger campuses or any stereotypical ragers.

    Clubs and Activities

SCSU has over 200 clubs and activites. There are tons of intramurals, which can be a great way to expand your group of friends.

Great for these types of students

I feel SCSU is great for all types of students! There is such a diverse population that anyone could fit in and anyone could find their niche.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Last year they the first ever naked mile across campus, which I thought was a pretty cool thing.

    Bang for the buck

SCSU is a great school for a really low price. The education, nursing and buisness programs all have a super good rep too!

    What to do for fun

SCSU has plenty of on campus activites. There is Atwood afterdark, where they have tons of games and activites planned. There are tons of cultural nights, which are a cheap way to get super good food. There are also movie nights in Atwood every Thursday through Sunday evening. Also, at the beginning of the year there was a super fun Jonny Holmes concert.

    Food and Dining

Garvey is pretty horrid. People complain of the Garvey runs. They sometimes have good food, but my first semester I only ate pizza and salads.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fairly close to most of your freshman-year classes. However, they tend to get loud and the showers in Mitchell do not work nearly as well as the ones in other buildings such as Stearns. Be sure to go on tours of the dorms and think of how you'd want to share a room when signing up for the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

In high school I was always told college would be super hard but I'm finding the opposite to be true. In most classes it's easy to get an A or B by doing very little work.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! There are so many activities on campus to choose from. Within the first month of classes, there is a fair where all of the organizations lineup on campus. It's a great way to get information about things you are interested in.

    In three sentences

Depending on your major, some of the prerequisites have larger class sizes. I personally enjoy them more; however, the only drawback is that you don't really get to know your professors or other students.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit st cloud and do an over night stay you might just like it. Research then apply.

    Bang for the buck

They have a lot of scholarships so I'll be hunting those down as soon as I get there!

I definitely will enjoy being there! People are so kind and helpful which makes st cloud welcoming.

Great for these types of students

Many say St. Cloud State is a party school but there is so much more to it! I've made so many close friends now. Plus now there is so much freedom and choice so it is what yo make of your time here!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't fall behind on homework. It's good to stay ahead of schedule so you get the best grade you can.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely affordable. I'm a broke college kid but the student loans and financial aid help out!

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus, class size, dorm life, and people. Very helpful and friendly professors here! I live in Mitchell Hall and I absolutely love it. I feel very safe on this campus, and there is also many helpful resources for students.

    Am learning a lot

I am currently finishing up my first semester of college. I am in general education classes now and they aren't as hard as I thought they would be. The library here is a great place to go to study and finish assignments.

    Clubs and Activities

There is an abundance of clubs to participate in at this school. I am currently in the Entrepreneurship Club which I love. It is mostly a speaker-based club, real Entrepreneurs (mainly St. Cloud State alumni) come in and speak to us about their journey, it is incredibly educational and interesting.

    Bang for the buck

SCSU has an exceptional library. It is a good reason for choosing this school. It provides everything a student could need to help support their academic career.

    What to do for fun

There is a wonderful array of diverse people on this campus to meet and build relationships with. There is a great downtown area to experience, as long as it is in moderation and school comes first. Also, the student union (Atwood) holds many activities for students to partake in. There is a wide variety of fun to be had at this University.

    Food and Dining

St. Cloud State University provides its students with a dining hall, called Garvey Commons. This was not my favorite place to eat. They should update their food options to more healthier choices. Off campus though, the city of St. Cloud provides numerous restaurants that students can choose from all within a very close proximity, this is extremely convenient.

    Dorm Life

Residential Life on campus is exceptional. I lived in a dorm my first year. I was put in a room with a girl I did not know. I was fortunate to become great friends with this girl. There is a perceived notion prior to attending college that dorm life is something to fear, but in my experience it was wonderful. It is important to go into with an open mind.

    Academic Rigor

St. Cloud State University's Business College (Herberger Business School) is an AACSB International Accredited School. AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools, worldwide. Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review (http://www.stcloudstate.edu/hbs/about/accreditation.asp). This means that those attending the business college will be tested and challenged academically.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important when contemplating what college to choose to incorporate not only the academic aspect but also the life that can be provided. Prospective students should actively be involved and network rigorously while attending college. They should keep a positive attitude and stay focused, as well as develop relationships with their peers and faculty.

    In three sentences

St. Cloud State University is a truly positive, educational institution. It provides the knowledge one seeks when deciding colleges and offers a life unlike other institutions. Those who experience it understand its superior qualities.

    Clubs and Activities

    Bang for the buck

You can get good deals around the school but some of the stores have pretty high prices.

    What to do for fun

There is bowling, you can go for walks, events once a month on Fridays, the gym, and much more.

    Food and Dining

Gets old after a while, but good food.

    Dorm Life

It can get annoying living with so many different people, not having any privacy. But, the dorm life helps you meet many people, life long friends and lets you make memories that will last a life time.

    Academic Rigor

They expect you to do your best in your classes, there is slack in some and professors are willing to help when needed.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard in your classes, pay attention and do your homework. Be careful with your social life, you have the freedom when you go to college but you have responsibilities as well.

    In three sentences

St. Cloud state is a great school. It has classes that push you to do your best and professors that are willing to help you.

    Campus Safety

Csmpus is pretty safe, just do not walk alone late at night because it can get sketchy, there is dangerous people but the st cloud state university officials try to ensure the safety of all of its students.

    Greek Life

The greek life here is very involved with the community, though they are not as well known on campus it would be a great opportunity to join one of the sororitys or fraternitys to gain professional networks that could further help you succeed in life.

    Clubs and Activities

there is a club for everything i swear. As well as having the freedom to be able to pick any club you would like to innovate is great and take advantage of it.

Great for these types of students

adventorous enjoy having a social life outside of class leaders great business program

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

some locations on campus that are great to hang out at are atwood memorial center there is a lot of comfortable places to rest at in between classes if you do not want to walk all the way back to your room you can take a nap and get some caribou coffee that is also located in atwood memorial center

    Bang for the buck

My advice for people would be to save your munch money. You might be wondering what munch money is but it is $200.00 that is put on your student i.d for the semester. With this money you can purchase food from places such as subway,WOW wingery, burger joints, pizza hut. The money might sound a lot for the semester but remember! you have to save it for half the school year so be smart and do not be tempted to eat out everyday and waste your money. Garvey is a great place so take advantage of your meal plan. I would also recommend selling back your books at the end of the semester. The on campus book store is at centennial hall but I do not recommend the on campus book stores because they will give you a fraction of what other book stores that are only about a minute off campus would give you

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do for fun, if you have any hobby you love then you can probably find a group of people that are interested in the same one and have a club team. If there is no club team it is very easy for you to get one started. Lets say you are interested in boxing and have a couple friends that are as well then you can go apply with participants willing to perform you have your own class. The athletic facilities are state of the art and there is so much to do such as basketball, football, yoga classes, dance classes, etc. and the dome is up so you do not have to worry about the weaher in the winter time. Oh and a plus is the bowling alley inside Atwood memorial center. Downstairs you can enjoy a great night and maybe even catch one of the latest movies that are aired in atwood for free at night once a week!

    Food and Dining

Gravey Commons has a lot to offer and I guarantee that you are going to have great dreams about it the first few weeks of school. Compared to other college cafeterias our meal options should be considered gourmet food. The cafeteria itself is very big and has a couple available computers inside it so if you feel rushed you can complete you rwork if no one is in one of the two computer stations which they are usually empty. The cafeteria has a saute bar a salad bar, a deli, and the main grill where the double burgers are grilled which are my favorite by the way.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life in st cloud state is very entertaining. I lived in Shoemaker hall and we had a few dances and big events that you would have chances to win great prizes and get accompanied by great people and eat great food which is a good part of that! The dorm I lived in was recently remodeled on one side so there is a huge 72 inch T.V and other great study rooms and a computer lab that is open 24/7. The rest of the resident halls are scheduled to be remodeled and they are actually starting in the next year. I think its great because the dorm sizes will be bigger and newer technology will be available in the dorm rooms.

    Academic Rigor

The university is a state school so I cannot compare it to a huge division one school that in reality is more technical than the state colleges. Even though it is a state school you might find that some classes are very hard to pass. This is because the professors are sometimes hard and maybe the combination of two or more heavy load credit classes can affect your semester. As long as you show up to class because attendance is usually mandatory in most general education classes than you will be fine. The Miller Center which is the second biggest college library in the state has a lot of tutoring help and online databases that can help reduce your stress and are great tools to help on hard homework, papers, and or if you want to study for your finals. Finals I'd say are very hard but most professors will give you plenty of time so you won't have to worry about being rushed.

    Tips for prospective students

For incoming students I would recommend that you familiarize yourself with all the tools that can help you succeed your freshman year. The freshman year of college can be an overwhelming time in a students academic career because there is so much to adjust to and gain knowledge about. There is services such as the multi cultural student services that help minorities or second language students with programs that will get them more comfortable and give them information that freshman would love to know of in the beginning of the school year.

The experience of living in the dorms will depend on who the floor advisers are and who else lives on the floor. Although there are times when people can be a little too loud, the overall experience has been decent. It is more enjoyable if the floor advisers try to get to know you and plan floor events. It is especially nice to live on-campus because it gives you a place to go to in between classes, even if there isn't a lot of time to spare.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what major the student is pursuing, the difficulty of the classes will vary. However, each class effectively teaches the material and the students learn a lot as long as they attend the class and do the work.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to meet new people and experience new things. Try to attend a couple events within the first couple months to make new friends.

    In three sentences

It is an enjoyable college to attend. There are a lot of opportunities to meet new people from a variety of backgrounds. They provide multiple on-campus events that provide a wide range of entertainment.

Join student organizations and get involved!

    Food and Dining

Although the food is better than nothing and will work if you have no cooking abilities, the food could be better. I personally cook in the dorms and find that to be cheaper than dining costs.

    Dorm Life

Currently live in the dorms and do not recommend students to live on campus in the dorms here. The environment is not the best for studying or getting a good night sleep.

    Academic Rigor

I would recommend meeting with professors before taking their classes. This is a very unique request, however you will appreciate this comment. Many professors here do not fit your personal style of teaching- scoping out the perfect fit will work better in your favor in the end.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be afraid to try new things and get involved.

Great university for certain students. Based their overall standards towards the professors research projects. However, some of the programs are widely recognized for quality.

    Academic Rigor

Do the work and try hard and you will succeed. Drink all the time and expect low grades.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for an education at a low cost SCSU is a great place. I would recommend all hometown St. Cloud people to venture out and experience a different town. Be safe at night?

    In three sentences

Hit or miss with teachers, I've been blessed with great professors but many will complain. Being a homebody, a college known for drinking is disappointing because professors assume everyone goes downtown when really not everyone does. Not much to do in town.

    Campus Safety

On campus is pretty safe, but don't go right outside campus by yourself because it gets pretty sketchy. Also if you live in the dorms, the guys are usually really nice and will walk you somewhere if you are a girl. They guys get really protective because they know that their are some real weirdos out there, so they tend to help out. Everyone looks out for each other.

    Greek Life

I hear the greek life is really fun. Some of them are even really nice, and aren't like what you see in the movies.

    Clubs and Activities

They have a lot of clubs you can join, which is really good if you would like to make some great friends. There are some random clubs and some are just really intense like the skydiving club.

Great for these types of students

St. Cloud State is for students who want to excel academically, but also want to make connections of a life time, whether that be friends or future employers. It's for people with open minds who are willing to expand their knowledge.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a tradition on campus where if you see Blizzard, the mascot, you have to take a picture with him to prove it. It's something you have to do before you graduate.

    Bang for the buck

I honestly did not want to go to St. Cloud State, but when I got here, I know this is where I belong. It has definitely made me into a better person than I once was. It has also taught me a lot and made me learn lessons because I needed to.

    What to do for fun

You could basically do anything at St. Cloud State. I would go to campus events, which are honestly the best if you go with some friends. There are movies to go to, or you could go play volleyball outside. Late at night I would play basketball on the outdoor court. I also played soccer on the football field. I even had fun just walking the river walk. I would just longboard around campus as well and that was just a lot of fun. If you don't like the things on campus to do, you can always go walk to the city. They have a lot of activities, such as clubs, mall, and restaurants! I even had fun just hanging with my friends in my dorm. It's just a ton of fun there.

    Food and Dining

The dining at St. Cloud State has a lot of options, which is good because sometimes the food looks a little suspicious, but that's why there are a ton of options. I enjoyed all the random things you could make.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life at St. Cloud State has go to be the absolute best. I made some of the friends that will be in my life till death my first year in the dorms. They are absolutely all super friendly and really nice. Everyone on my floor went places together, and we even called each other a family and our CA was our mom.

    Academic Rigor

I find the academic rigor challenging, but in a good way. It pushes me to do my best and go farther than I thought I ever could. It made me into a really hardworking person.

    Tips for prospective students

Just know that these are the years you are still able to be a kid. Study hard, but remember to have fun. There are a ton of friendly people at St. Cloud State, and who knows, maybe you'll meet your future maid of honor or best man. Overall, work hard, but remember you're still a kid.

    Campus Safety

I feel safe at the SCSU campus. There are blue safety lights around campus. Campus Security guards wear grey uniforms and walk and ride bikes around campus. You can call a special number at night and a Campus Security guard will walk with you to your car or dorm building. There were a few petty thefts in the dorms and around campus last semester, but that was because people left their doors unlocked. Other than that, I feel pretty safe on campus.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life on campus is not a huge ordeal, but you do see them. The majority of the time that I will see them is when they are trying to raise money for their houses and charities. Once one of the guys' house was doing an all night camp out on the campus. They were playing music during the day, and playing games at night to stay awake. It was a pretty interesting sight to see in the middle of the night. Also many of the times that you will see any of the Greeks on campus, doing something other than going to class, is them selling hot dogs. This is a pretty popular thing for them to do to raise money since they are cheap and everyone on campus will be hungry at some point.

    Clubs and Activities

Hockey at SCSU is huge, especially with the Men's team being in the Frozen Four this year. Team players have wonderful trainers and academic advisers. Teams also interact with other students. We have outdoor pep rallies and other social events to meet and interact with team players. We have amazing training and workout facilties. Intermural sports including volleyball and frisbee golf allow anyone to play.

Great for these types of students

SCSU is very diverse. There are a variety of people at SCSU. There are many different kinds of people: Asian, White, Black, etc. There are city boys, country boys, really eccentric theatre art major guys, really athletic guys, most guys skateboard. There is also a variety of girls; high maintenance city girls, country girls who wear cowboy boots and braid their hair. There are all sorts of people: Preppy, Pretty, Emo, Goth, etc. It will take a while to get used to the Minnesota accent if you are not originally from around here, but overall everyone is friendly and very social.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The hockey center is amazing and the SCSU students are part of The DogPound Husky pride is a large part of the hockey games! They have Main Street, which is where the whole campus mall is filled with tables/booths filled with club information. This is a free event for students to attend and sign up for clubs they are interested in. There are also specific family weekends where there is a carnival with rides, a ferris wheel, cotton candy, etc. where family and friends can come up and visit students living on campus. There are free sporting events and other things to do on campus and around town.

    Bang for the buck

The facilities are great! There are a ton of resources at SCSU including the Math center, The Write Place (this helps tutor students in English and writing. The Career Service Center, helps students find jobs, reviews resumes. The Academic Advising Center is very helpful. Atwood is the main social scene on campus. It includes places to eat, hang out and study. The library is impressive! It is the 2nd largest in the state and the staff their are friendly and helpful.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do at St. Cloud is a medium sized city that has a lot of stuff for students to do. St. John's and St. Ben's are two college campuses that are fairly close by. The Crossroads Mall is an awesome place to shop and hang out with friends! There are always cultural events going on campus. The locals are very friendly towards students. The St. Cloud library is amazing! On campus there are Open Mic nights, where singers and poets take the stage to perform their original works. SCSU University Program Board also has movie nights at the campus theatre, where they play current and popular movies! It is free to SCSU students. Attend an SCSU Hockey game in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center!!

    Food and Dining

The food there is good. There is also a Pizza Hut Express, a Subway, a wings place called W.o.W., a market, and a really good burger place called 6th Street grill! There are rumors we are getting a Chipotle next year? There are a variety of meal plans to choose from including Munch $ which is basically $200 per semester to buy food whenever you want! You can even use it to buy your friends' food. Commuter students can even buy meal plans which is very ncie!

    Dorm Life

I have lived in the dorm. It was very nice. All dorm residents have a meal plan and $200 extra dollar credits that is known as Munch Money, which is has to be used up at the end of each semester. You can buy your friends food with your Munch $ which is really nice. Most dorms have secure access entry, meaning you need a valid ID to get into the dorm. Every night there is night security sitting at the front desk, your ID has to be swiped for you to enter the facility, and for your card to work you have to actually be living in that dorm. If you bring friends to spend the night they need an ID such as a driver's license to prove their identity. Living on campus in a dorm allows you to be in walking distance to all your classes and close to the cafeteria known as Garvey.

    Academic Rigor

SCSU is not that hard if you schedule time to study and time to relax. It is not that big of a party school anymore. The professors usually care about the students. They usually have office hours. It helps if you make an outline of what needs to be done. SCSU's Bookstore has a really nice planner called The Link, which automatically has a calendar printed with important days: midterms, finals. It also has stickers with the words Exam, Test, etc.

    Tips for prospective students

Practice reading and writing these are important skills for college. Take the ACT at least once.

    In three sentences

St. Cloud State has a beautiful campus. St. Cloud State has an academic and career counseling available to help you when you need it. SCSU is a great college that provides a diverse learning experience.

Things to do for fun students can go to Halenbeck and play basketball swim and also attend sporting event that are sum what fun this is a mainly Hockey school so the football games and basketball games aren't as fun as you would expect.

    Food and Dining

The food at St.Cloud is fine it isn't anything special you will get tired of the same things over and over as they tend to get repetitive with the food selection.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is fine I seem that this school is on where minority is kind of a big deal especially with the so called party scene it isn't as opened with opened minded individuals as you would think.

    Academic Rigor

Their are some teacher who care about the well being of learning and the people on the class and helping them learn but their are some professor who almost seem like they have no passion for the job and only are there for their pay check.

    What to do for fun

There's downtown for the bar/club scene. You can catch up with a friend over dinner, see a live cover band, or just grab a drink. There's the river alongside the school, so walking around paths is always fun.

    Food and Dining

The food here is actually pretty decent. I enjoy the cafeteria, but can grab something more along the fast food lines if that's what I prefer. The food is pretty inexpensive in comparison to other schools.

    Dorm Life

No thanks. Never tried it. I much rather prefer to live off-campus on my own.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, the academic rigor can be tougher in some areas than others. Get to know your teachers if it's a small enough class-size as this will assist you in the long run. Plus, who doesn't need a good recommendation?

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get caught up in the party scene, focus on your studies and throw fun in when necessary. Join a sport, it's a good way to meet people. If you're brave enough, opt out of the dorms and live in an off-campus apartment with a roommate or by yourself. It's significantly cheaper.

    In three sentences

Very user-friendly online classroom services that provide quizzes, study guides, grades, and anything else that might accompany an in-class course. Transportation-friendly, providing on-campus shuttles walkways. Fairly inexpensive and transferring in or out is simple.

JOIN JOIN JOIN!!! I am in the Hmong Student Organization and Filipino American Student Association. They are just truly understandable and amazing. Both organizations interact with each other a lot because the President of the Filipino American Student Association is also part of the Hmong Student Organization. Even though both clubs specify a race in their title, you don't have to be that race in order to join. They're open to everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's no such thing as any unusual traditions or locations when it comes to college. It's very open-minded to all students.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition and fees are understandable and knowing that I don't miss home is amazing! The classes are good and the friends I've made along the way is just a truly amazing experience.

    What to do for fun

During my leisure time, I socialize at my organization's cultural center. There are many more organizations at the center, which is easy to socialize with many other students. Socializing will help me in life because that's what we're taught in college, to social and network! Being a part of my organization, I've become family so I'm with them everyday when we're all available because that's the place where we always hang out, help each other out, and do homework together.

    Food and Dining

I am really picky among my food so anywhere I go, the food won't be perfect to my taste. Although, going to the cafeteria does come in handy. The travel distance is by far, way more convenient than going to the grocery store and purchasing food. Although their food isn't to my taste, I do love the days they have sugar cookies and pasta!

    Dorm Life

I absolutely love the dorm life!!! Everything is much more convenient. Attending classes without worrying about gas in a car, missing the bus, and never getting to class is a lot more easy than living off-campus. Dorms is a must, to at least get the dorm life experience.

    Academic Rigor

    In three sentences

St. Cloud State provides so many wonderful opportunities for students and it helps get students really involved. Although it's my first year here, I've joined multiple organizations/clubs already and it already feels like a family. Campus Safety

The campus makes every effort to keep us safe. There are several emergency phones around campus that connect straight to patrol. Walking around the immediate campus area, I've never felt nervous. Once you get a little off campus though, it can sometimes be a little scary. We have a huge amount of theft and robberies, drug busts, and crime. However, if you are smart about walking around at night, and are aware of your surroundings, you'll be fine. If you don't look for trouble you probably won't find trouble.

    What to do for fun

There are parties nearly every night, so finding fun is not hard. There are also a ton of restaurants in the campus area, quite a few parks if you are able to drive around, and okay shopping.

    Food and Dining

Garvey is typical cafeteria food, but they have some okay options. There are a ton of dining in Atwood like subway, pizza hut, world of wings, caribou coffee, einstein brother's bagels, and quite a bit more. It's expensive so I still bring my own snacks most the time, but if that isn't your thing, there are a ton of options.

    Dorm Life

I never had to live in the dorms, but from what I understand they get the job done.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the generals classes can be on the difficult side, especially if you get a professor who is not very flexible. However, once you are in your major, it's really about learning a skill for the outside world. If you put in the commitment, you'll get a lot back.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not bring your car, parking here is a disaster. If you are a commuter, consider buying a parking pass, off street parking is hard to come by during peak hours. Most professors are willing to work with you, but you have to visit them during office hours. GO to the office hours, they'll remember you, and grade you accordingly. I know I bumped up a couple classes grade letter just by visiting the professor every now and again for clarification. The students here like to have fun, and parties are abundant. Establish a study routine before your party routine, you'll do well in your classes and get to have fun.

    In three sentences

Saint Cloud State is an affordable option for students who want to experience what a large campus feels like, but still get individual attention. We have a reputation of being a party school, with a high acceptance rate, but there are many really good programs here too. If you are planning on majoring in business, nursing, or education, this school is worth a look.

Just off campus can be dangerous at night. However, there is campus security who make you feel safe just outside of campus, as well as in it.

    Food and Dining

Plus side, there is a convenience store (albeit expensive). Downside, Garvey food isn't always good. It CAN have its good meals, but for the most part, you'd have to not be very picky.

    Dorm Life

There is always something to do. You can go see a newer movie free, you can join clubs, you can join community council, etc. The CAs (community advisers) will help make your experience safe, welcoming, and even fun if you don't fight with them. (yes, there are people who do sadly)

    Campus Safety

I don't know much about SCSU campus safety, the past or present issues, track record, failings or successes. I want to learn more about it, as safety has always been important. I am not particularly worried about random shooters or terrorist threats, but I am always concerned with robbery incident rates, the number of incidents of rape, and any other violent crimes that happen on or near campus on average per semester. Everyone should have an idea of the odds of becoming a victim no matter where you are at any given time, not just on a college campus, in my opinion.

    Greek Life

I'm attempting to learn more about this, but still waiting to hear back from the sorority I've contacted.

    Clubs and Activities

SCSU seems to have a ton of activities and other student services, clubs and groups to interest and engage pretty much any student. I look forward to learning more of them, and have already found a few that I will become involved in.

Great for these types of students

Again, SCSU has an earned reputation as a party school. The graduation rate of only about 50% speaks volumes, as does the weekly police reports in the paper. It's a good school with good academic offerings and can be as challenging as you want it to be, and I think it's great for the more academically inclined students, and not so good for the type of students who just feel they should be in college because they've been told they need to, in order to get a job. They're the ones who will end up leaving in a year or two, often with a DUI or other encounter with police leading to a misdemeanor or worse on their record instead of a college degree.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't know any of these yet.

    Bang for the buck

It depends on what kind of bang you want.

    What to do for fun

I can't speak much to this, since I'm not close in age to the average college student, and don't really know what they'd like to do. There are a lot of bars and clubs downtown, but there are as many policemen just waiting outside them all at bar close as they can manage to pay. I like going to Munsinger Gardens to enjoy the flowers and the peace and quiet. The movie theater in Waite Park is an option when good films are released, and the Paramount theater has some interesting and entertaining offerings throughout the year. There's good shopping all over the place, too. The only thing I've noticed that is lacking in the area is any truly fine dining restaurants. There are plenty of casual dining and overpriced bistro type places, and there are far too many chain restaurants, but no real upscale options at all. Even Antone's isn't really fine dining by my definition, though the prices tell you that they believe they are.

    Food and Dining

SCSU seems to have a pretty good variety both on campus and within a short distance of campus. It's located within city limits only a few blocks from the downtown area which supports a varied dining and entertainment scene, which has both positive and negative aspects.

    Dorm Life

I am an older adult and I live in the city already, so I will not be experiencing dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

I can't give a detailed review on this as of yet, since I've not begun classes yet, but the departments and course offerings seem to be very much on par with other universities I've looked into. I have met a few instructors and professors and all have given me an impression of excited, energetic and involved instructors, which leads to excited, energetic and involved learners. Nothing less than happy successful professors can produce happy and successful graduates.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend any and all preparation activities and events for new students once you receive your acceptance letter if at all possible. Take a campus tour to familiarize yourself with the area, and make sure you speak to an advisor as soon as possible- even before the advising and registration day- especially if you are a transfer student. Some majors are not offered, though pre-programs may be, so even if your intended major isn't listed, it's worthwhile to look into SCSU as an option since tuition is cheaper than many larger and private universities, and it really doesn't mater where you get your prerequisites finished, as long as they apply to your major. SCSU has a reputation as a party school. The local police are not forgiving nor are full time non-collegiate city residents. The best advice I can give both as a long time resident as well as an older student is that while you are here, you need to stay focused on your education, so you don't end up leaving on probation.

    In three sentences

SCSU has a small town feel while offering large school experiences and top notch course selections. The campus is geographically compact and easy to learn your way around. Parking anywhere near campus is a nightmare unless you pay the almost prohibitively high fees, opt to ride the city bus which can take an hour just to go three miles, have someone drive you in to class, or ride a bicycle to, from and while on campus.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is amazing. The campus police are around 24/7 watching to keep us safe. They assure that there is nothing dangerous around to keep students safe. And at night all the dorms are locked so only students can get in.

    Clubs and Activities

At St. Cloud State there are a ton of clubs and activities providing something for everyone. When going here no one has to worry about fitting in because we have everything from student government to racquetball. With over 250 clubs and activities there's bound to be something for everyone.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that the students that attend St. Cloud State are getting what they are paying for. There's a beautiful campus, lots to do, and plenty of places to get a job. There are also a lot of on campus resources including free help finding a major, help with resume and cover letters, you can get help at doing better in interviews and much, much more.

    What to do for fun

Since St. Cloud is a large city there are all sorts of fun and interesting things to do. There's the mall and restaurants. There's parks and the quarrys to swim and play at. There is places to bike and roller blade. There are theaters and hole in the wall shops that are fun to explore. And of course there is all the on campus events. I assure you there will never be a dull moment when you are here.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls are always kept clean and that's great because no one wants to eat somewhere dirty and there are always multiple dishes to choose from at every meal. The only problem is that sometimes the selection from day to day can be limited and sometimes having pizza everyday can get a little old and unhealthy. Other than the dining hall there are also places like Subway and WOW! on campus as well that provide a great alternative to eating pizza and spaghetti for every meal.

    Dorm Life

Although sharing a bathroom with 11 other girls can get tricky you meet a ton of new people and there's always something to do. Getting to know people is easy and fun and there will never be a dull moment,

    Academic Rigor

Classes here can be pretty challenging, but with a little hard work and determination it all pays off in the end. The best part is the classes here are interesting and mind provoking. They make you think and they give you valuable information that you can use later on in life.

    Tips for prospective students

With all the things to do on and around campus it can be tempting to go out with friends all the time instead of study but I believe you really want to succeed here you have to find a healthy balance of school and fun. It's okay to say no to friends sometimes.

    In three sentences

I love St. Cloud State. The classes are great, the teachers are wonderfully helpful and your class schedule is so flexible. The best part is that the campus is on the Mississippi River, which provides a beautiful scenery.
