    Tips for prospective students

You should plan your classes out because some classes are only available in the spring or fall term

    Bang for the buck

The class are alot cheaper than other colleges and the only thing you might pay alot for are the books which you should buy used.

    Am enjoying being here

All the teachers have been quite nice and helpful. Don't be afraid to talk to your classmates either.

    Am learning a lot

There certain classes that should not be taken online, like speech or one you need lots of instruction.

Great for these types of students

St Petersburg College is great for all students. They have wonderful advisors if you are new and need help with things such as financial aid and scheduling classes. They are also great for the seasoned college student who would rather take charge of their own academics. They also offer a huge variety of online courses for the working student.

    Tips for prospective students

St Petersburg College is a great school. Most students only come for their A.A. degrees and go somewhere else for a Bachelors, however I highly recommend their 4 year programs. They have a variety of majors to choose from and their faculty is exceptional.

    Bang for the buck

Because it's not a university St Petersburg College is much more affordable and accessible (they have 9 different campuses) for students who don't have the financial backing to attend a brand name school. While SPC is not a university it is an accredited 4 year state college with wonderful programs in over 18 areas of study.

    Am enjoying being here

After attending a big university for 2 semesters, I found myself back at St Petersburg College. The small classes and great professors are why I came back. The campuses are well maintained and have great snack bars and libraries to study in. If you are looking for a school where it's easy to make friends and the professors make classes fun I would definitely recommend SPC.

    Am learning a lot

St Petersburg College's 4 year programs can be pretty rigorous, but definitely encourage critical thinking and higher learning.

Great for these types of students

High School graduates who recently came to the United States and feel more comfortable attending a school which allows them to further develop their English without taking ESL classes. Also, for those who want to save before going for their bachelors.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have proof of your residency--I had a problem with that--and pick good, challenging professors. Furthermore, you want to plan an academic curriculum yourself by checking the ones from other universities because the academic counselors at SPC tend to make you take classes you didn't have to take after all or don't tell you that you had to take a specific course which is retaining you from transferring.

    Bang for the buck

SPC is very convenient for people looking for an affordable, good education. The only thing you have to make sure you have is residency, or be prepared to cover those out- of-state tuition fees.

    Am enjoying being here

At SPC not all the students are united and I didn't find a specific program that guides students planning to major on chemical engineering, which is my chosen major.

    Am learning a lot

How much you learn all depends on the professor you choose for each of your courses. There are excellent professors at SPC that teach at other universities such as USF. You can go to ratemyprofessor.com to get the inside on each professor's teaching methods and style. Choosing a professor that really makes you earn your letter grade is ideal for better learning and understanding of a subject.

    Campus Safety

We have around the clock Campus officers (easily identified) who cruise around on their golf carts to help accommodate the needs of students and teachers alike.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a variety of clubs and activities to join and socialize with, SPC does not decline the new ideas of opening a new club or campus rules to help campus life

Great for these types of students

There are a variety of clubs and activities to join and socialize with, SPC does not decline the new ideas of opening a new club or campus rules to help campus life

    Bang for the buck

The classes here are far more affordable than full scale universities, though the prices of books and other appliances might me justifiably equivalent. SPC is exceptionally convenient for those looking at affordability and genuine education, teachers who will go out of your way to make sure you understand the material. Unlike those 300+ class size auditoriums in Universities where the professor may not even care if you dont show up. Residency is a big issue though, for the most affordable classes you want to have in state tuition (at least 6 months of residency) or else you could be paying as much as 1,000$ per class.

    What to do for fun

if youre looking for fun, between the library and student serviced center is a basketball court. inside the center itself is a plethora of things to do, couches to recline on, tvs to watch whats on your mind, all the way to table tennis!

    Food and Dining

we have a wonderful cafe here at st petersburg college, its open during just about all class times capable to the current employees. the employees are funny, and very friendly. don't be discouraged if one of them decides to strike up conversation for no reason!

    Dorm Life

there are no dorms for this college, though it would not be a bad idea to do that. apparently this is now a full on four year college and stands amongst the universities. i fail to feel and see it.

    Academic Rigor

the intensity of academics here varies per student and course/major. i would give the academic rigor a three out of five.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are a student interested in this college, go for it- anything is better than no education at all. Get you books and dont miss class, but most importantly, SIGN UP EARLY. Classes such as Scuba Diving at the SPC Clearwater location will fill up in as little as 1 week!

    In three sentences

st petersburg college is over all a decent college. while i prefer to have more of a university feel, it lacks that and i wished the classes were larger. i do wish i can get into a university, yet this will have to suffice due to financial issues.

    Campus Safety

We have security officers on campus 24/7...they will walk you to your car after your eening classes! Very nice people!

    Greek Life

We don't have any sororities, we do have phi theta kappa which is similar to NHS. Also our Tarpon springs campus is located in the most greek populated place in the US i've been told, where the sponge docks of tarpon springs are located!! All of the buildings are labeled in greek letters! It's pretty cool!

    Clubs and Activities

    lots of clubs and activites!

Great for these types of students

SPC is truly great for all kinds of students!!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

All of our campuses are located no more than 5 minutes from the beautiful florida water/beaches!!

    Bang for the buck

    Very affordable!!!

    What to do for fun

The school has lots of clubs you can join in. The city of st.pete is a great place also.

    Food and Dining

The Cafeteria has recently been re-done at most campus locations, they have great food, for breakfast and lunch. Healthy and not healthy choices. For instance sandwich versus pizza for lunch!! :)

    Dorm Life

We don't have Dorms it is a community college! However, there are affordable apartments around the campuses.

    Academic Rigor

It's very hard to fail a class at SPC. Only people who don't put the time in to learn and study the material will fail. The Instrutors are extremely helpful, they are happy to answer any questions you have. And if you are still struggling there is free tutoring on every campus!!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for financial aid it's always worth a shot. A Lot of times you don't have to spend your money on textbooks, because there is a copy of every textbook in the library. And all students are allowed to check it out for the day, only for use on campus though. Make sure you decide what your major is going to be during your first year of college, because otherwise you might end up wasting time and money, taking classes you actually don't end up needing. Map out what classes you plan to take in what semester from your freshman year to the end of your associates. Remember each Bachelors degree has certin pre-reqs that are required to be completed during your associates degree. Make sure your electives during your associates degree are the pre-reqs required for your continuing education.

    In three sentences

SPC has wonderful conselors, and truly amazing Instructors. It is a community college so it is definitely affordable. Smaller class sizes allow you to have a better classroom and learning experience.

Great for these types of students

Those going back to school, or those who don't know what or where they want to go, but still want to learn. Or simply people who want cheaper rates. They're also instituting bachelors degrees, soon.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your books used and don't skip class! And pay attention, even if you end up retaking a class. It'll help, I promise. And use ratemyprofessor.com. Really.

    Bang for the buck

Cheap, and most of the teachers are engaging. Make sure to get your books used, either from other students or online though. Follett charges exorbitantly!

    Am enjoying being here

If you need somewhere to hang between classes the student lounge (Agora building) Is great for that!

Great for these types of students

SPC is great for anyone trying to save money, anyone that is completely undecided about where to go, anyone that is looking to transfer, or anyone that is going back to school.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have all of your questions in order before going to talk to counselors. If you can, avoid talking to the counselors at the Tarpon Springs campus.

    Bang for the buck

SPC saves you soooooo much money. :)

    Am enjoying being here

SPC is great for saving money. They plan to put housing in within the next few years, but for now it is a lot of people living at home, or going back to school.

    Am learning a lot

Depending on which professors you pick, your classes can be great. Make sure to talk to other students though and find out information on the classes you plan on taking.

Great for these types of students

People who are undecided about their majors, people who are trying to save money, older students, and non-traditional students.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're not sure of what you want to do, or are trying to save your money, apply at spc. It may seem like an extra year of high school, but once you're completing the same classes that your friends at UF or FSU are completing, you'll feel OK with it.

    Bang for the buck

Of course, being a community college, it is much cheaper than a university and good place to get started,

    Am enjoying being here

Hey, it's a community college. There isn't a whole lot of unity or school spirit that you might find at a university. Basically, at spc, you go to class then you go home. There isn't a lot to keep you on campus or involved. They do try with different events that offer free food, but other than that, it's just a place to learn.

    Am learning a lot

It really depends on the attitude you decide to have. If you're willing to learn, then you'll learn. It depends on the instructors' and professors' attitudes and willingness as well.

    Tips for prospective students

    Join the Honors College.

    Bang for the buck

I was part of the Collegiate HS so I didn't pay for anything but according to the students I know, classes are fairly cheap but everything in the bookstore is overly inflated. Do not buy books from the bookstore.

    Did enjoy being here

It's a commuter college, so it is hard to bond with people outside of class as most students come for class then leave. It is a good idea to join a few clubs and attend quad events if you want to meet people.

    Did learn a lot

How much you learn depends solely on you. Many teachers do not require that you attend class or read the books thoroughly, so it is easy to slack off but if you do attend class and read the texts you will learn a lot.

Great for these types of students

St.Petersburg College is great for students who want to get a head start with college, because St.Petersburg College offers the Early College Program, which I'm currently enjoying. This special program enables high school juniors to become full-time college students, receiving a high school diploma and an AA degree at the same time in just two years, all for free.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember to plan out your class schedule carefully with just the right amount of courses you can handle.

    Bang for the buck

I think St.Petersburg College has one of the lowest tuition rates around, so everyone likes this aspect.

    Am enjoying being here

I do love coming onto campus (Seminole Campus), because it's within a mini park, with having a nature boardwalk, which I enjoy very much. Also the other campuses have nice surroundings as well.

    Am learning a lot

From my own experience each class is packed with a lot of information with a short amount of time to complete it, but I do enjoy a good challenge.

    Campus Safety

you have very little to worry about on the campus as there is very little people on it and always has active security personnel.

    Clubs and Activities

students show alot of interest in the student government association.

Great for these types of students

older students, students that just want to get an education and go home.

    Bang for the buck

st. petersburg is a good school with affordable educational classes. students are a lot older than i am (19) and there is very little extra curricular activities which is disappointing because i wanted a more active college experience.

    What to do for fun

the school doesn't offer many extra curricular activities, but it seems to be very big on the student government association. students ask you to vote for them, and each semester during voting days they have a small party on the campus.

    Food and Dining

it's not a big college, so it doesn't really need many places to eat. it does have a small cafe where they sell sandwiches and drinks near the book store, which is nice.

    Dorm Life

st. petersburg college doesn't provide dorms.

    Academic Rigor

essays and assignments are very common in all of my classes, i'll usually be assigned a 1000+ word essay in each of my classes every one or two classes. i learn a lot in each of my classes

    Tips for prospective students

it's a great college and very affordable, flexibility can sometimes be a problem as all of them math classes start at the same time, as do the sciences, histories etc. which can sometimes make you have to visit the campus for classes multiple times in a day.

    In three sentences

st. petersburg is a great school for those wanting to get a affordable education. extra curricular activities and campus life are very bleak though. the campus is often completely empty until you see a class starting or ending.

    Campus Safety

at night the campus is very well lit and throughout the entire day there are campus security patrolling the grounds to ensure our safety. there are also many cameras around inside and out.

    Clubs and Activities

st petersburg college definitely is active in clubs and activities. there are posters and bulletin boards around the whole campus for anyone to get information about such clubs or activities.

    Bang for the buck

the dual enrollment and early admissions program has saved me tons of money. these programs allowed me to take college courses while still enrolled in high school. the programs have paid for my tuition along with my books needed for the course. also at the college, they offer new and used books for students who like to save a little when their able to.

    What to do for fun

st petersburg college campuses are centrally located near several beaches, the busy downtown night life, and many attractions. on the actual campus, students may put together a few football or soccer games to pass the time.

    Food and Dining

i am not familiar with the food and dining at st petersburg college.

    Dorm Life

i do not have any experience with dorms at st petersburg college.

    Academic Rigor

with all college classes, they are challenging. one must put in the time to study and work hard with great responsibility to earn the highest grades possible. students are treated fairly and are given the grade they earn.

    Tips for prospective students

as a current student, i would recommend taking full advantage of the free resources. there are librarians which are definitely helpful when writing/ citing papers. tutors are offered seven days a week. i would recommend taking dual enrollment classes for high school students, or look into the early admissions program.

    In three sentences

st petersburg college has many campuses to choose from to suite your location. there are many helpful resources given to the students, for example free tutors, advisors, and events. the angel online grading site is very helpful, easy to use, and gives a gateway to communicate between students and their teachers.

Want to live at home due to the high cost of living on a campus or away from home. Excellent value and education.

    What to do for fun

Clearwater Beach, Honeymoon Island, Spring Training Baseball, Spring Break, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Bucs, Fishing, Kayaking, really anything including the Arts (plays etc)

    Food and Dining

School food is fine but their are so many choices of places to eat in this county that you will never have to worry about where or what to eat.

    Academic Rigor

    Average from what I hear.

    Tips for prospective students

Relax, ask many questions, and make the best of your choices in classes.

    In three sentences

This college offers smaller classes which is beneficial because the teachers get to know you. The advisors and counselors generally care about the students and are there to help. I do not feel like just a number or body like many of the other college students I know at our Public State Universities.

ANY! It doesn't matter whether you work full time or part time, or even don't work at all you can work the classes around your schedule. This school makes college life simple, and the relationships you create will last a lifetime!

    Tips for prospective students

Check out the campuses, look at the site ratemyprofessors.com for the teachers ratings, if your taking general education classes, for composition I would take Flores, people say he is easy, but he isn't just going to give you an easy A if you don't work for it. He gives out tons of extra credit opportunities. Plus he only works on tarpon, but he has a few online classes going too!

    Bang for the buck

ABSOLUTELY! This college offers classes that cost at least under $300, which is a lot cheaper than universities, I have read that for USF its $3,000 for 6 classes, thats $500 a class, SPC is $200 cheaper, so I would suggest for the first two years of a four year degree take your classes here.

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers you get classes with, especially on campus make it enjoyable, they are the best teachers I have ever had. They offer more extra credit opportunities if you are on campus, not so much off campus but thats the decision you have to make.

    Am learning a lot

This college has a lot of opportunities for higher learning, they have some of the best teachers out there. I have had the best lot of teachers I could have possibly asked for in my first year of college!

This school is great for students who don't want to leave home yet or want to finish the first two general years of their degree without breaking the bank. Also a fantastic school for people returning to finish or pursue new degrees. This school has classes multiple times a day for any work schedule.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let people tell you it's 'JUST SPC.' SPC is a wonderful school, it has plenty of programs and scholarships available you just have to look for them. Use ratemyprofessor.com when selecting your instructors, it really helps a lot!

    Bang for the buck

Very affordable school with a plethora of scholarships. Join the Honors College and receive a minimum of $200/semester just for being a member! Not to mention the benefit of graduating with honors! Also, each semester apply for the Foundation Scholarships. It's a scholarship pool that only requires 3 small essays. Don't forget to join groups at the school like Women on the Way or the Male Outreach program for FREE BOOKS!

    Did enjoy being here

Very helpful professors at this school. Just ask and you shall receive! I once had a problem adding a course to my schedule, an error ended up occurring and the class was full by the time I realized I wasn't in the class. I e-mailed the head of that specific department and he admitted me right away; all it took was a polite e-mail!

    Academic Rigor

I learned a ton, such helpful professors and an outstanding learning support center. Go to the tutors, they help so much! AND IT'S FREE!

    Tips for prospective students

Go on campus and find out who recommends what teachers for the classes you need to take. Kids will travel to a different campus to take a class with a specific instructor, so when they recommend them take their word for it. They wouldn't travel if the teacher was just so-so.

    Loved it.

I went to school at the Tarpon Springs Campus. Beautiful, easy to get to and parking was never an issue.

I highly recommend Ned Johnson for ANY English classes you will need to take. If you can get into his Creative Writing class it will be the most fun 3 hours of your week and his Journalism class is great as well. Only draw back would be that you'd have to go to the Tarpon Springs campus.

Great for these types of students

Busy, employed full time, returning to school or students planning on transferring to a four year institution.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are applying for financial aid, apply as early as possible and check your school email often for any additional information needed by the college. Read the reviews on prospective professors before signing up for the class. Wait until the first day before buying a book to see if you will need it and do not buy from the campus bookstore.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is reasonable for a community college. People that qualify for financial aid often cover most or all of their expenses for the year.

    Am enjoying being here

The campuses are easy to navigate, manicured and well maintained. The staff including janitorial and security are friendly and helpful. Classes could be more challenging and the red tape in the financial aid departments is atrocious.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are the best part of the school, many work multiple jobs in addition to their day and evening classes at St. Petersburg. Most of my classes have been informative and insightful, but not up to par of a four year university.

Great for these types of students

St. Petersburg College is a great college for students wanting to broaden their education without spending thousands of money. Also, for students that are serious about their education.

    Tips for prospective students

A tip that i would like to share with prospective students would be to always be prepared for your classes and ready to learn since the professors are always ready to teach each day the class meets.

    Bang for the buck

The classes are pretty much the normal price any student would have to pay at a junior college. The books are the normal prices for the courses.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy going to school here because right when you walk into the campus there is always smiling faces. It feels very welcoming at St. Petersburg College and very efficient.

    Am learning a lot

St Petersburg College is always willing to help students with any issue you are having regarding the course subjects. The tutors provided are students that have taken the course and are easily reachable. The professors are willing to help you and stay after class when you are confused about the material.

    Clubs and Activities

get active and involved in student government as well as phi theta kappa honors society. there's many other clubs to join as well, but those are the two biggest clubs. it is beneficial to be active on campus.

Great for these types of students

students coming from high school as well as older students getting back into school.

    Bang for the buck

classes are cheap and pretty affordable. there should be no need to take loans out unless it's dire.

    What to do for fun

there's days when the clubs will hold events but that's about it. other than that, there's not too much going on.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

    there's no dorms available.

    Tips for prospective students

although people have joked in the past about spc being the 13th of -your high school- you should always put effort into all your classes. trust me, assignments and exams creep up on you if you're not putting any effort into your studies. also, get to know your professors, they have their office hours posted so that students can talk to them, the professors are so much easier to get a hold of in community college than a university. i -highly- recommend students take classes, 'face to face' (in person, not online) so that they can get the actual feel for college classes and then after you become familiar, go ahead and take online and blended classes. be active in student government as well as other clubs on campus, it does benefit because then you get access to opportunities other students may not know about until later.

    In three sentences

spc is great for people who are not sure or haven't made up their mind as to what they want to major in. it's excellent for students who just got out of high school because yes, it's a college but it gives new students a nice transition into college, rather than going to a university and feeling completely overwhelmed by the size of the campus, text books, classes, etc. spc is also a good start for students to become more involved and active in not only the school but for the community as well, depending on what campus you attend. with that in mind, the downside to spc is that not all the courses that offered, are not going to be offered in one campus. which means if you live in tarpon springs or somewhere in pasco county, you'll have to travel to clearwater or even as far as seminole to take a class that isn't offered closer to you. the advisers on the tarpon campus as well as a few others are pretty rude (not all of them), they seem impatient and there's never enough help to get to everyone. yes, i understand it's a community college, but as students we don't deserve to feel like we're bothering our advisers. other then that, spc is really a good college to start at and they now offer bachelor degrees. the downside to that is they don't offer bachelors in many areas, so depending on what you go for, you'll have to go to a university to get your bachelors. classes are cheap, they offer online courses as well as express which is nice, especially because i took a basic computer class over the summer for nearly 4 hours on fridays, for about 4 weeks and got my credit for my degree, which is really convenient (i wouldn't suggest doing that for a math or science class, unless you're good at it).

SPC has many clubs you can attend. They even hold special events for certain months, such as Hispanic month, where they set up tents offering free Spanish food for students, where people can sit outside and enjoy the food and socialization.

    In three sentences

St Petersburg College is a very good college. The teachers are always willing to lend a helping hand if you ask them. It isn't fancy, but it has definitely given me the confidence to achieve greater education.

    Campus Safety

I was very surprised about the Campus Safety. You do see the Security Golf Carts go by time-to time, but not that much in the day. However, I gave it the 4 stars because at night time, you see more Security Golf Carts and usually a Pinellas County Sheriff Deputy in the parking lot. I know SPC doesn't have that deputy there, but usually it's a great place for them to be on their break. It does work tho because I have seen an event that one of those deputies being on break and actually helped SPC Security out. So, I guess a win-win situation? ha!!

    Clubs and Activities

Activities are always planned around campus. The student government knows how to plan stuff. Usually there is snow cones, popcorn, and ping-pong in the UP Building. There is a list of clubs also at the campus. Student Government is the big one also with a Christian Club.

Great for these types of students

Smokers. They have a huge designated spot for the students who smoke at SPC. I do not smoke but I see them in the gathering there talking about classes, getting to know each other etc. I think it's a great idea that they thought of so the rest of the campus is clean.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

In the UP Building Lobby, you will always find a game of Magic: The Gathering, Dungeon and Dragons, Warhammer, or any other types of those games. Personally, I do not play any of them, but I can see that a lot of people do due to the Digital Arts Program that is centered at the Seminole Campus with all the classes in the UP Building.

    Bang for the buck

In my opinion, it is a great money saver to do your two years [AA Degree] here before going to a university. Also, the bookstore has great deals on books, clothing, even computers/tablets. I would definitely recommend the bookstore.

    What to do for fun

Usually during the afternoon, the St. Petersburg College Student Government is in the UP Building Main Lobby with ping-pong tables. Between the UP Building and the UF College of Pharmacy Building there is area of grass with two soccer nets. Time to time, you will see a pick-up game of soccer, flag football, or even kick ball. It's a great place for recreation.

    Food and Dining

St. Petersburg College Seminole Campus has 2 great dining facilities on the campus. One is located in the book store and the other in the UP Building. When you look at it, you think it will just be some so-so food, but they sure know how to surprise all of us. You're at a community college, but with their 2 dining areas, it makes you feel like you are at a regular university.

    Dorm Life

St. Petersburg College is a community college and does not have any dorms [at the moment]. I've heard rumors on campus tho that the space at the Seminole Campus will expand into the Natural Habitat Park, Academic Buildings, and Dormitories in the long future. I can see the Natural Habitat Park and Academic Buildings be true statements, but I do not see Dormitories being made at a community college. It will be cool tho!!!

    Academic Rigor

It depends on who you take for certain classes. Ratemyprofessor.com is a great tool for you for the teachers at St. Petersburg College. The Intro to Speech Communications' teachers are very well-known; however, the Government teachers [in my opinion] are not. Once again, that website can help you out.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend St. Petersburg College to obtain your Associates Degree [AA]. It will save you a lot of money so you can be in good shape onto transferring to any public Florida university. I have many friends who have transferred to University of Florida [Nursing Program] , Florida State University [Music Program], and University of South Florida [Music and Mass Communications Program] and saved a lot of money because of getting their 2 years of general education credits done.

    In three sentences

The Seminole Campus is a beautiful place and is mainly focused around their Natural Habitat Park. Their Digital Arts Program is great with a state-of-the-art Production Room located in the UP Building. Classes are the right sizes and the counselors at the Seminole Campus help you thru any problems that come up in your college career.

    Campus Safety

Safety is a huge priority at SPC and the friendly campus monitors are always there and make a point of mingling with the student body to encourage safety and security.

    Greek Life

Life at SPC is based on the traditional greek philosophy of colleges down to the names of the buildings.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs to choose from at SPC such as Honor Society, Student Government, and Non-traditional Students club.

Great for these types of students

SPC is great for any student. There are many clubs to get involved, but the small campus provides a close community feeling for everyone there and the pride for that community shows strongly in school spirit.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At the SPC Tarpon Campus, there is the Leepa Rapner Art Museum. Recently Andy Warhol paid a visit and worked with the art students and now there are several of his works on display in the museum.

    Bang for the buck

In the economic strife that we face daily, no one can argue with free. There are always tons of free events to explore and if you just want to relax and enjoy the day, there are free concerts on the beach. Best of all is the sound the ocean makes as the sun sets into the horizon; definitely something that will stay with you for the rest of your years.

    What to do for fun

Sun, water, and fun are the best thing about this area. Being reveled as a state that enjoys the outdoors, there are bike routes a plenty, beautiful golf courses, kayak rentals for the novice wanting to test the waters, and the the night life is vivacious and spirited.

    Food and Dining

Being in mid Florida, dining options in this area are plentiful and if you like seafood, this is a great place to taste some of the freshest and best cooked seafood available. From Frenchy's in Clearwater to the Burger Box in New Port Richey, the options are limitless.

    Dorm Life

SPC does not have a dorm system available, but I will add that I love my place and community which makes it very easy for me to choose SPC as my college of choice.

    Academic Rigor

SPC offers many different degree options, and classes leading up to those. They also offer several BA and BAS degrees as they are working in alliance with the major universities in the area.

    Tips for prospective students

New students should get to know their campus and all of the services provided there so that they can utilize those tools to help them be a successful student.

    In three sentences

SPC is a great community college that provides exceptional educational options for students looking to stay within their own area. The staff is professional and willing to help students by giving one on one time when needed. The provosts and Dr. Law are emotionally involved with the students and strive to provide every opportunity for an individual to have a successful college career.

    Campus Safety

GUARDED: Campus security has guards going about in their go-carts plus regular drive-bys by local police and sherriff. Guards will walk you to your car and emergency numbers are posted. Plus this is Florida, where folks are super-polite but about everyone has a concealed-carry weapon. A kind word...

    Greek Life

    HONORS: Strictly academic honor societies.

    Clubs and Activities

YOU NAME IT! Clubs cover about everything.

Great for these types of students

TEENS TO RETIREES--AND HAS A GRAD SCHOOL OPTION: They work with you whoever you are with a serious mentor program and teacher support. People who do well here walk into jobs, start businesses, or are accepted at top universities for graduate study. While it has open admission the college is demanding with a serious Honors College program. It has a diverse student body from 14 year-old geniuses in their dual program to returning adults. They encourage you to take extra interdisciplinary and other classes which have very qualified teachers. If you like e-learning they have excellent e-learning classes in most subjects. If you're interested in ROTC they have it. The college has a nationally famous department in applied philosophy and ethics. A course is required, and people say it does wonders for critical thinking and clarifying professional ethics, personal goals and decisions. Finally, though formerly only an undergraduate level college, they have agreements with universities around the US that teach their courses there so you can continue to graduate and professional degrees as: Doctor of Pharmacy, Chiropractic, Dentistry, and advanced management, science or other studies.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

FREE LUNCH! They have a student day off, and numerous information festivals through the year with plenty of snacks. Like Pizza? The Provost meets with students for free Pizza through the year to find out what needs to be done. They serve food like crazy at various free seminars from visiting experts, informationals and group-support activities, so if you're not getting free lunch 2-3 days a week you're not trying.

    Bang for the buck

BACHELOR DEGREES WITH SMALL PRIVATE SCHOOL CLASSES FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL PRICE: Classes are considered getting large if they have more that 15 people. Free support tutors, mentors, and professors that will give extra personal meetings galore. The professors are primarily dedicated educators, not some spaced-out reseracher who mumbles to the blackboard. Most majors have co-op/internship requirements or opportunities, so your learning is hands-on. If you are a Florida student of modest income who has the Bright Futures scholarship, FAFSA, or gets one of their generous cash scholarships you basically go for free. In-state credit cost (2013) is $107 USD.

    What to do for fun

PARADISE: St. Petersburg (and the surrounding county of Pinellas) is a tourist magnet with beaches, environmental parks, fantastic multi-cultural cuisine always being featured on the Food Channel, antiquing, a walkable downtown, the famed Pier, the Dali Museum, and is near attractions in Orlando and Hillsborough ( Disneyworld, Busch Gardens, etc) , with cofeehouses, an annual art festival and racing event, sailing, plus low-cost local theaters and film festivals. The college has purchased the city theater, shares library space with the county library, and has a museum.

    Food and Dining

YUM! No dining halls but snack bars at several campuses are excellent, including an organic place at the downtown campus.

    Dorm Life

CHEAP HOUSING: No dorms, but campuses around the county with plenty of cheap student housing nearby.

    Academic Rigor

SMALL SERIOUS CLASSES: Teachers will work overtime with you to get an A and the evaluation is very standardized and ongoing to keep down the subjective factor. No grading on a curve from what I understand: Their position is you either know it pretty well or you don't. The AS programs are varied and designed to lead right to a job or transfer into the State Unis--theater, video, computers, arts and sciences, game design, medical technologist, X-Ray, etc. They also have a post-BA Teacher 30 credit certification program that is low-cost.

    Tips for prospective students

REMEMBER: If you're from out-of-state remember this is Florida: Life is courtly, s-l-o-o-o-w, and you have to ask nicely for everything a few times. Make sure you walk everything through with the administration people and keep copies of everything, especially if you're getting a waiver on something. The mentors help. Make sure you interact with teachers and take advantage of the excellent mentoring and support programs. Also, there're fantastic free College-provided cultural activities: Concerts, public debates and town halls with distinguished experts, quickie seminars from experts in the field, art exhibits. Also: A study-abroad, Model UN, and co-op/internship program. The Bachelor majors are designed for things in high demand in Florida--Special Education, Biology, Nursing, Tech/Computers,etc.-- and have internships and hours requirements beyond those of many more famous universities, so people have an edge in employment.

    In three sentences

GO:This college is a gem in beach paradise where you graduate with a degree that gets you immediately employed or into the Ivy League. It's super-low cost for Floridians, not bad for out-of-state and has an Honors College; the programs are strong with great adjunct professors and e-learning; and as a city college associated with the State system it doesn't have some of the sillier State U. limitations ( they penalize you for going over 120 credits, for example). This is the only college in the US that is committed to lowering their already low tuition and was recently praised by the Obama Administration.

I think this college is a great place to meet new friends, explore the surrounding area, test the skills that you are learning, and there is even a nearby University (University of South Florida) that will let you BORROW BOOKS from their library!

    What to do for fun

For fun activities, there are campus organizations, the local mall, nearby major sports venues, and places like the Dali museum.

    Food and Dining

There are at least 3 SPC's campuses with cafes where students can grab a bite to eat. Off-campus there are also many, many places to eat nearby such as the Tyrone Square Mall, fast food chains such as McDonald's and Burger King, and some upscale restaurants like Outback Steakhouse, Carraba's, and others.

    Dorm Life

This is the best price for a quality education in the area for Florida Residents.

    What to do for fun

The downtown campus shares a building with the American Stage Theater Company. Students can see plays, or attend the Florida Orchestra performances at a fraction of the price. There are many free events too. That, of course, is in addition to SPC's own planned student events that go on through out the semester at each campus.

    Food and Dining

The downtown campus is in Saint Petersburg proper. There are a number of great restaurants and other eating establishments nearby. Most of the other campuses have cafeterias. The Clearwater campus has a fun eatery called The Hard Drive Cafe that has a computer bar for students to use while eating and socializing.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at SPC. That is probably because most students live in the area. There are out of state students, though. Most of them take classes on line. That works out great for them.

    Academic Rigor

Express and excellerated classes are offered for almost anything. The instructors are great at challenging their students. They are also there to assist in any way they can. Critical thinkig is mission critical here.

    What to do for fun

For fun some of the clubs on campus do host movie nights. The school does also host basketball games and volleyball games. They also have a gym on campus you can use as long as you have a school ID for the current semester.

    Food and Dining

The food for a cafeteria is surprisingly decent. They do have vending machines and soda machines. The price is acceptable and not very high.

    Dorm Life

It is a small college campus so there are no dorms. I attend the Tarpon Springs Campus and it isn't the primary campus.

    Academic Rigor

The professors do give out a lot of work but they are always there to help you. The work is just that work, but if you put in effort you will do fine. Also ANGEL the online class guide is very easy to navigate.

    Tips for prospective students

The campus is a bit confusing so I would suggest before you apply you should take a tour of the school. Meet with an advisor to find out what steps you should take like the CPT test and a list of all the paperwork you will need.

This college is wonderful, the professors are really helpful and care about you. The professors really take pride in their curriculum by making sure what they teach is accurate. Also it is a really beautiful campus so it is really easy to feel comfortable there.

I'm an online student, and I feel like I don't always get the help and info I need when calling the school or emailing. I cannot go into the campus because I am in North Carolina. It took 3 weeks for them to get my book order correct, and because of that I had to start my math class a week late. I have been in school for about 6 months now, and have recently been told I will not be able to start the program I am interested in until august 2013 ANOTHER YEAR FROM NOW!!! That is really discouraging and upsetting.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Don't walk on the grass! That's unless you're prepared for the ghastly stares and evil eyes of everyone around you. It has to be Taboo or something.

    Bang for the buck

The best thing about St. Petersburg college is you're getting the same education someone is getting at a large university, if not better, for much less. If I told you what an average student pays going to SPC you probably wouldn't believe me.. But I'll tell you anyway: $17,000 for all 4 years! Being frugal isn't all that bad, after all.

    What to do for fun

The campus has the majority of its pathways outside so just catching some rays on the green or throwing around a Frisbee are two fun and easy ways to pass time. For the adventurous type, you can hop on Gulf to bay going west and be at the beautiful Clearwater beaches in less than 10 minutes.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has a very comfortable environment and a range of choices from crisp salad to juicy meat entrees. If you've just got the 'munchies' right before class, then any one of the vending machines around campus will hit the spot.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at SPC are non-existent but there are neighborhoods and apartment complexes surrounding the whole area so, Finding a nice place to stay, by college student standards, shouldn't be too difficult.

    Academic Rigor

As for academics, coming from the perspective of someone who spent their freshman year at a private liberal arts school, St. Petersburg college's workload is less than stressful.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

I've never really encountered any threats or safety issues at SPC. The campuses are pretty well-lit at night, and there are various postings around the campuses on how to call campus security if you should feel the need for their assistance.

Great for these types of students

If you've got a busy schedule, SPC is a great option. I've worked part-time for the past few years (almost full-time), and I've always been able to rely on SPC having something available that works for me. SPC has online classes as well as night classes.

    Bang for the buck

SPC is much more affordable than most other colleges, with the bonus of smaller class sizes that allow for a much more comfortable learning environment - professors are able to answer individual questions during lectures and explain them in detail. Most professors know all their students by name.

    What to do for fun

Most campuses strive to offer clubs and activities such as dodgeball or talent competitiions for students with time to kill. While I've personally never had time to really participate in any of these, I can respect the variety of things going on for students looking for something to do.

    Food and Dining

This area is always improving, actually. Most campuses have a decent cafe-style dining area with a variety of foods to choose from, such as pizza, sandwiches, salads, fruits, baked goods, etc. The food can be sometimes a bit pricey, but more often than not you get what you pay for.

    Dorm Life

SPC doesn't really have a dorm life. There are student activities, but there are no dorms on any of the campuses.

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be challenging, but they're not impossible if given the same amount of time and dedication as any other college-level course. Professors at SPC are passionate about their subjects, and as such will often impart copious amounts of information that require extra study to fully grasp.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you stay abreast of deadlines with regards to registration and financial aid, since sometimes they can come up more quickly than expected. Either purchase textbooks prior to classes starting, or better still, wait about two weeks - sometimes professors will assign textbooks that are never used. Waiting to see how much a book is used can save you $100-200.

    In three sentences

St. Petersburg College is a great option for students with busy schedules. Classes are affordable and the financial services department is always willing to help students in need of aid. Finally, despite being a community college, the quality of education is deceptively high - in part because of smaller classes that allow for greater interpersonal communication with professors.

Every campus is well lit at night, has security patrol until after classes let out, and you can call security at any time and they will walk you to your car, help you down a flight of stairs, or wait with you if your waiting on a ride. They write tickets if people are speeding or parking inappropriately.

    Clubs and Activities

If you name it, there is likely a club catering to it on at least one of the campuses.

Great for these types of students

Students who are strapped for cash, non-traditional students, students who want to stay local, students looking for technical degrees or degrees for work, students interested in transferring, and pretty much anyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an inter-campus soccer competition annually. Student Government started an annual flash-mob, the Honors College has an annual research conference, and the college hosts an annual ball.

    Bang for the buck

SPC is inexpensive, it offers a large variety of programs, has small class sizes, engaged faculty, and many opportunities. If you are considering applying, you are headed in the right direction, and SPC will support you and guide you through applying, registering, purchasing books, getting financial aid, preparing for college, studying college material, and preparing for success.

    What to do for fun

You are a stone's throw away from the beach, there are dozens of parks, museums, minigolf courses, etc. Tampa is a half-hour away, and there are concerts, conventions, theme parks, live performances, and charter services.

    Food and Dining

There are tons of restaurants in Pinellas County, lots of authentic ethnic cuisine and restaurants that cater to dietary needs. Most of it is reasonably priced.

    Academic Rigor

If you are planning to go into a healthcare or science related field, get ready to work. The programs are designed to challenge you so you actually learn. They prepare you for entering into the workforce. I cannot comment on other programs, but from other courses, I have noticed that professors expect hard work and dedication, but they will work with you if you have difficulties.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be intimidated: there are a variety of resources to help you including help applying and registering, help with research, help with computers, tutoring, campus tours, and financial aid and coaching. Get involved: there are diverse clubs and organizations in which you can participate, you can create your own club, there are leadership positions within the clubs, student government, the honors program, etc. and there are tons of different volunteer opportunities. Stay in school: Everyone has a tough term or two, but don't get discouraged, because there is support everywhere at SPC. They want to ensure your success, you just have to reach out and grab it.

    In three sentences

SPC has outstanding support and opportunities for growth through clubs, social events, volunteer opportunities, and leadership opportunities. They have and Honors program with interdisciplinary courses and philosophies, research opportunities, publication opportunities and a close-knit community. The faculty are qualified, diverse, and invested in their students' success, but they maintain a good boundary where learning is still individual and entirely supported.

    Campus Safety

Safety has never been a concern of mine while on campus. There is plenty of security on campus and in parking lots at all hours. They ride golf carts and help assist anybody in need. They also have an emergency number in case any students wants to be escorted to their vehicle or has an emergency.

    Greek Life

There are Greek students and programs for those interested.

    What to do for fun

The downtown campus is located next to a movie theater and there is a variety of shops and restaurants nearby. It is not that far of a walk from the school to the pier or a park so you can go to the beach or fishing at the pier or just relax in the park across from the school.

    Food and Dining

The school has a small cafe and is located around a large variety of different restaurants and cafes. There are lots of good choices and varieties of food.

    Dorm Life

There is no on campus living.

    Academic Rigor

Like all schools different teachers affect how challenging the class is. Luckily I have had mostly good teachers so far. They challenge you and push you to do your best and learn about the subject, not just in class but in life. I may not always like the methods, like being made to stand up and speak to the class (Ugh!), but it helps me in the long run and I understand the subject more.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the free tutoring offered at the school and the call helplines that are available.

I feel confident leaving my stuff on a table with a friend or two, and say they had to leave, I would get back to the table and my stuff would still be there. I forgot my wallet at the cafeteria thing there, and someone walked up to me 40 minutes later and handed it to me. Every single dollar and card I had in the wallet was still in there (you bet I gave the kid 20 dollars) There are a lot of kids who ride their bikes, skateboards, and long-boards through the campus, so do not be dumb and walk in front of them.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm personally not aware of anything more than the MIRA program, the Collegiate program, and the Student Government Association.

Great for these types of students

Music majors, any really just anyone wanting to further his education.

I talked about The Quad earlier.

    Bang for the buck

Classes are approx. 113$ a credit-hour, and books range from 60$ to 350$, new.

    What to do for fun

I like to just hang out with my friends (that I met at the school) there, The Quad is always hosting mini events and gatherings for the students featuring free food, music (hosted by the radio program, hosted by the school's MIRA program), and just a way for the students to familiarize themselves in the culture of a college lifestyle.

    Food and Dining

    Basic food stuff.

    Academic Rigor

No. Just no. So far, it is really easy.

    Tips for prospective students

It's the most affordable way to get an A.A, there are some cool people at the Gibbs campus, and some of the teachers are pretty cool and actually there to help you.

    In three sentences

So far, I am kind of annoyed at the fact that my AP credits for whatever reason, were not accepted. I got a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, and the school failed to acknowledge my credits. I almost did not even go to the school.

They are there if you need them, they have opportunities if you want to be escorted to your car you can call them which is nice. They aren't rude or pushy for no reason like some other campuses I've visited.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm not personally in any clubs, but I have observed them. All the students who are in them really enjoy them and are very passionate about their organization.

Great for these types of students

SPC is very good for students who like small class sizes, work fulltime, or have other obligations in the life that they can't go to school all day for days at time in the week.

    Bang for the buck

I think the bookstore is overprices, but thats with any college now so I jsut rent my books. But in your tutition you also receive tutoring, resume building tools online, and so much more.

    What to do for fun

St. Petersburg College has some activities I have engaged in as a student. The offer Career Expos, seminars (such as study abroad), mvoie nights sometimes, and many more. Being that it's a local college there's not very many athletic events like larger universities

    Food and Dining

There are cafes on most the campuses I have visited. The staff is usually students, so they're always really fun and enjoyable when I visit. The food is ok, much better than other I would assume though.

    Academic Rigor

St. Petersburg College does imply academic rules, and thats to be expected anywhere. I do like that they do survey of instruction, however wish they did survery of advisers as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research for anything before you get in too deep. Ratemyprofessor is the best before you actually sign up, pay tutition and are in the course. I wish I had started using this earleir.

    In three sentences

St. Peterburg College is a good college, if you're just out of high school or working fulltime and need a school that is flexibile to your daily schedule. As anything in life your academic career here is what YOU make it, not the professors. I personally appreciate all the different locations they have and online courses they offer.

    Campus Safety

It doesn't even seem to need campus safety, since nothing ever really goes on. Although I do see public safety roaming around a lot during the day.

    Greek Life

We have no sororities or fraternities on any of the campuses.

    Clubs and Activities

There's always going to be a club for something. There is an extreme ease of starting a club of your own on campus...I have!

Great for these types of students

Music majors, STEM majors (specifically focusing on science), Business, and Health Care.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I can't think of any unusual locations on campus. It's a pretty small 4-year campus, so not a lot goes on.

    Bang for the buck

Not only is the tuition cheap at SPC, so are the books and the gear (in comparison with other colleges). The food is really cheap, and they even host free lunch events around campus every once in a while for students and faculty.

    What to do for fun

There's great club activities on campus along with sports, although I don't know many people who are active in sports. Get active with clubs and be sure to get active with SGA. If there's any place that's great to get started at with building your leadership skills, it's at SPC.

    Food and Dining

There are a couple dining options scattered around the SPC campuses, but only a couple are nutritional and sustaining. Since SPC is more of a college to go to just for classes, many students leave to head to neighboring restaurants and eateries such as Panera and Tijuana Flats.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at SPC.

    Academic Rigor

Professors like to challenge not only how well you retain information, but how well you are able to think outside the box.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to check out all of your financial aid options, and don't just fill out the FAFSA. SPC offers foundation scholarships to incoming freshmen and transfer students, so you should take advantage of those opportunities.

    In three sentences

A great school for the price. The professors are really knowledgeable on their respective subjects. It's a great school if you are going to transfer and if you need just basic core classes.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

Depending if the teacher actually cares, you will be in a class that doesn't prepare you for much of anything.

    Tips for prospective students

DO NOT under any circumstances go here if you actually want an education!!!

    In three sentences

This college's Administration, advising, student help, and reception help are all complete BS jokes! They don't help you when you need it and do nothing but bump you from one person to the next because they're lazy; especially when all you're trying to do is CHECK something anyone can check! Whether it be about Financial Aid, Classes, Graduation; you name it they are all lazy, rude and refuse to do it!!! They don't care about the students and when they give the falsified air that they do during Orientation/Open House... I'll warn you, they're lying out of their arses! Not only that but this horrible college screws you over the moment they find out you've taken more credit hours than they've ALLOWED you to take. They won't even take responsibility even when it's their error in reading your transcripts, so they put you in financial aid suspension and then make it difficult for you to even sign up for classes because they will deny your Maximum Time Frame Appeal despite the proof you have they messed up. Their advisors are rude, their call desk receptionists are rude, and they will get an attitude with you if you ask too many questions. Did I mention it takes them days to call you back? If I could, I'd give this College a rating as negative infinity and warn absolutely everyone that going here is a waste of time and money. Go to PHCC or one of the State Universities like USF, UCF, UF, FSU; though they're not 100% better, they have it more together than this joke of a College. I've gone to this College for 2 years now; only stuck it out because I believed they would improve. I thought all the campus' were different but it turns out they are all the same. Now SOME of the Instructors are reaaaalllly nice. But you'll find that those Instructors also dual-teach at State Universities. Still telling any prospective students that if you don't care about never getting help or being screwed over by the faculty, then SPC is the College for you! If not, then go some place better where you actually get the quality classes you want and deserve. Because the classes in the Degrees and Subplans here are also a joke; they don't teach you anything you need to know when it comes to the real world; not even the generalized classes do this! Go to a specialized Institute or State University for that; else you're just wasting your money, scholarships, and FAFSA limit of 30k you get if you're under the age of 24. Have fun continuing your education at another University after that if you plan to when you're under 24.

I have never heard of, or seen, anything bad happen at the Seminole campus. I don't know much about their policies other than they have a zero stealing tolerance policy.

    Clubs and Activities

A few times a semester, the Seminole campus will hold events that allow students to check out different clubs and even try out some free food! These events are hosted by the students who join the various clubs SPC has to offer.

Great for these types of students

If you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere (or as relaxed as a college can get), you might want to consider attending SPC at the Seminole campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Free popcorn for all the students in the UP building!

    Bang for the buck

Overall, this is a pretty good school. I do like taking online classes, but my two worst professors were online professors, so I would recommend taking in person classes where you will not have to worry about that as much. It is easier to communicate with your professors in person than online. You also want to speak with an academic adviser once or twice a year. You need to be very specific with your wants and where you want to be after you receive your AA or AS, otherwise, you could end up off track for a little bit.

    What to do for fun

There is a ping pong table in the UP building that is available to all students. If you enjoy reading, the Seminole library is right on campus. If you are more of a nature lover, the Seminole campus has a nature trail right behind it.

    Food and Dining

I do not recall ever eating their food, but there is a small section in the UP building of the Seminole campus that sells food. There is also a small cafe in the Seminole library which is right on campus. Their food is pretty good, and they have yummy smoothies.

    Academic Rigor

Some professors make you really work for an A, others are much more relaxed in their teaching style. No matter which type you get, you should pay attention and do your best. Most of the professors at SPC seem to really care about the work they are doing.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to apply for the Foundation Scholarship. With just the one application, you can apply for hundreds of scholarships, and there is a good chance you will win one of them. Most importantly, pay attention in class, complete your homework, and study hard for your exams.

    In three sentences

I had some pretty good professors here. It is an easy place to learn and make new friends. It is also a cheap way to earn your AA degree as SPC does not cost as much as a university.

There are no dorms at St. Petersburg College but most campuses have student apartments within walking distance.

    Academic Rigor

Every class and Professor is different in how tough they make there courses. If you really want a challenge then you can enter into the colleges Honors program. If some subjects are not for you then the school offers plenty of entry level classes and free tutoring.

    Tips for prospective students

Tutoring at the school is absolutely free and can definitely help improve your grade. Also some professors will offer extra credit for going. Another tip is to always read your syllabus completely and talk to your professor if you have any questions. Sometimes you will have professors who do not always tell you about future assignments. Last, most schools have an online segment like ANGEL or Blackboard were professors can post assignment, due dates, and study guides. If you have never used the programs see if your school offers an introduction class so you can learn to use it properly.

    In three sentences

On a scale of 1 and ten with ten being the best school ever St. Petersburg College is a solid 7. There are small class sizes so you are able to get to know your professors and not be lost in a sea of students. St.Petersburg also has the benefit off lower tuition than other 4 year institutions.

There are events happening on the campuses all the time. There are also sporting events, concerts, political events, meet and greets, and many other fun and exciting things SPC offers and shares with its students.

    Food and Dining

Some campuses have dining services and some don't. The Health Education Campus got rid of their dining services and we are all extremely upset about that because now we only have vending machines. Where there is food and dining it is very good and there are a lot of good and healthy options.

    Dorm Life

This is a community college so there is no dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are tough but college should be. So study hard and you will be happy with the quality of education you find at SPC.

    Tips for prospective students

There are also TONS of tutoring services available on every campus and the tutors and teachers care immensely about the students success, SO USE THEM!

    Dorm Life

    There is not any dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on what classes you take. If you are a business major, you won't have a tough time. However, if you are a biology major, those classes are no joke! I have learned a lot from that school and I am satisfied that I received my AA there.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get involved with the school because you won't have very much fun if you simply just go to class. Also like any other school go to rate my professor website and pick your teachers regarding the rating, they might not be right but its better than nothing. Oh and also parking will be annoying so get there early!

    In three sentences

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students returning to school after a prolonged period of time, students currently in high school, or anyone having trouble affording another college or university.

    Bang for the buck

While not the greatest college by any stretch, it is certainly one of the most affordable options. Lots of financial aid is available and the classes are relatively inexpensive compared to most colleges. Since the school is fully accredited and are great with helping students transfer out, St. Petersburg College definitely gives you your moneys worth.

    What to do for fun

The college has many on campus events throughout the year including movies, plays, and live music which are open for both viewing pleasure as well as some being open for students to participate in. St. Petersburg College also uses The Palladium, a performing arts center in downtown St. Petersburg, where numerous acts perform.

    Food and Dining

Since there is no on campus housing, this school does not supply the same amount of dining options that other colleges might. There is a cafeteria that has standard cafeteria food (such as chicken tenders, sandwiches, etc.), meaning there are not many options for people with specific dietary restrictions or the picky eater. The school does have vending machines spread throughout campus with both snack foods and sodas. This being said, the college is very close to many good restaurants and St. Petersburg has many diverse and enjoyable places to eat.

    Dorm Life

There is no on campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are more designed to help people pass than to challenge students, so more enthusiastic learners may be a bit underwhelmed with the work. While the difficulty may range from professor to professor, as well as adjusting for the student's subject preferences and learning styles, the general classes are relatively easy. None of the general classes should be too difficult for any dedicated student and should not be rigorous by any means.

    Tips for prospective students

St. Petersburg College has a very lax environment in almost all aspects, which may take some getting used to for some students. This school is a community college and so it is not a highly praised college that will garner jealousy, but it is a great college for people who either cannot get into or afford a major university. Works best as a stepping stone between any previous status and a university.

    In three sentences

St. Petersburg Community College is a wonderful buffer between high school and a big time university for the less than fervent student. While providing great opportunities for students who either arenâ??t accepted or cannot afford a major university, this college is not particularly ideal for the student eager to learn and excel. The best use of St. Petersburg College is an easy and helpful environment in which to earn an associateâ??s degree before transferring elsewhere.

    Campus Safety

Security is all over the campuses in golf carts daily.

There is a variety of clubs and sports activities, like choir, basketball, and weight training.

    None known to me.

    Bang for the buck

You have the opportunity to get a great education, at a much cheaper rate than a lot of colleges.

    What to do for fun

Bowling, movies, in the inner city. But there are tons of things to do on the beach like parasailing or jet ski.

    Food and Dining

All the campuses have a variety of different food and dining experiences.

    Dorm Life

I rent a home with my three children.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor varies from one professor to the next. But the mindset you should take into college is to succeed therefore you give it your all out the gate and you will be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for prospective students would be to be careful of your work load. I have overwhelmed myself a few times by taking too many classes at once, not knowing how the class will be ran. Always use ratemyprofessor.com, to check the reviews other students have posted about the professor you are looking to take. And most importantly, stay focused. In college if you miss too much of lecture time or fall behind in an online class it could cost you the entire semester.

    In three sentences

My experience with St. Petersburg College has been very pleasant. The professors and staff offer additional help if needed one on one to help you with any problems you may have. Included in your tuition there are many services like online library, tutoring and computer labs at all campuses.

Great for these types of students

Lacking in cash or familial support. Kids who slacked off in high school. Students with a need for a practical application. (Great nursing school here.) Those who aren't ready for university (trust me, a lot of you aren't. I was hardly ready for *any* degree of personal responsibility.)

    Bang for the buck

Cheap as ****, and you can get your A.A. and go to the school you really want to.

    What to do for fun

Workout at the free gym? Join the terrible sports teams? Join a club with nearly no active participation? Hang out with me. No seriously. I can't stand most people at the campus.

    Food and Dining

Depends on the campus. Seminole has nearly no cafe to speak of... more of a snack stand that serves reheated pizza. Gibbs has an okay, high school-quality cafeteria. DOWNTOWN THO>>>>> has a Nature's Table on the ground floor. They serve organic and fresh food, and I've had some dynamite soups and sandwiches from that joint, which I have gone to even outside of class when I'm just kicking around downtown.

    Dorm Life

    None. No on-campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

*Completely* dependent on the professor. I use RateMyProfessors.com, and shoot for the professors who score high on clarity and helpfulness, but low on easiness. The students who score the professors as not easy are more or less not academic types who don't really care in the first place. This being said, some of the most personally impactful courses I've attended have come from this school.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to the financial center armed with a battle plan. They aren't helpful unless you put the pressure on them. The academic counselors will overload you without saying anything, and will put you into classes without really understanding what you direction you're going in. Not their fault really, most of their students just want to get through the school so they can get a job. The challenge of the courses is strongly correlated to the location of the campuses. The Downtown campus is oddly challenging, despite serving an under privileged, under educated area. The Gibbs campus is the most challenging, and is also home to the Honors college. Seminole is laughably easy. I'm actually offended that I'm being taught as if I'm 14. The Clearwater and Tarpon Springs campuses more or less bring the heat, as much as SPC can. Anytime you come to the counselors, come armed with questions and *really really* be aggressive with what you need. A lot of them are lazy and sort of picky about who they like, and therefore who they give a ***t about.

    In three sentences

A state college that will reward the self-motivated, as there is not a lot of counselling and guidance toward success. Use professor rating services to get the best professors. Some classes will treat you like a 9th grade student if you're not careful.

I believe it is annually that we bring an elephant on campus to take photos with and ride.

    Bang for the buck

    What to do for fun

There are a ton of events and opportunities offered at all of their campuses. It is impossible to not hear about them weekly.

    Food and Dining

Their cafeteria's have always been delicious. Sometimes I would prefer to eat there instead of going home!

    Dorm Life

    I have never lived here.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor really depends on your professor, but they are all pretty rigorous in their own way- online classes especially.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get in touch with an academic adviser, because they really help with schedule planning and can point you in all the right directions. You may also want to ask around for professors that fit your expectations.

    In three sentences

The staff and administration is extremely helpful guiding students. The instructors all understand what being a poor college student is like, so they rarely have required books that you need to buy. There are also a wide variety of programs as well as some being 4-years programs.

    Academic Rigor

Not too rigorous at all, but definitely challenging enough to keep you interested. All sorts of tutoring is available and that can really help you succeed. Many teachers just go by the book, no one is really out there, and your professors will, fir the most part, do what they can to help you succeed. Try Honors College if you want more of a challenge at SPC.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour of the campus first! Get to know you're way around. Also, make sure you get your student ID card as soon as possible, because that lets you access a ton of great resources. Keep in mind that you will have most Fridays off. Don't slack, but don't stress yourself out too much. If you're going into nursing, they will try to stress you out by telling you that they only accept 80 out of 600 applicants. Keep in mind that out of these 600 applicants, only about 250 submitted complete or valid applications.

    In three sentences

    Food and Dining

The food is okay. Some of the food is pretty good, whereas others are not so good. The chicken salad sandwich, pudding, and corndog are just some examples of the pretty good foods that they have. The cheeseburgers is an example of one that's not so good.

SPC has a lot of free events for the students that can be informational or just recreational, and almost all include free food and refreshments. SPC students get free admission into the Leepa Rattner Museum at the Tarpon Springs Campus.

    Food and Dining

There is a great cafe with quality food and good prices. There is a variety of options including many healthy options. The only downsides to the cafe is that it is surprisingly dark and there are occasionally long lines.

    Dorm Life

    There is no on-campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are as difficult as you make them. if you pay attention and study, you will do well and learn a lot from the classes. Of course there is variation based on class and professor.

    Tips for prospective students

The school has wonderful resources to help you succeed. Take advantage of the free tutoring centers and the writing center which will review your essays and research papers and give you tips to help you improve. The school also has great research databases online.

    Campus Safety

I've always felt safe and secure on any SPC campus. There are patrols on duty, and safety has never been an issue.

    Greek Life

As far as I know, there are no sororities or fraternities at SPC. I believe I heard something about them trying to organize some, but I can't say for sure.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a few clubs at SPC, and there is always a full schedule of activities on the various campuses.

Great for these types of students

Adults balancing work and family - you will find plenty of online options for classes, as well as classes that will work with your schedule. Anyone who is still wondering where to begin, or what they want their major to be. You'll have plenty of time to explore your options while still moving forward in getting your GE credits.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

You'll actually find really cool features at every SPC campus. At the Gibbs campus, there's a really cool planetarium. At the Clearwater campus there's the Leepa-Rattner art museum that always has really amazing exhibits. There's the downtown St. Petersburg campus that is really cool and trendy and right in the middle of everything. Then at the Seminole campus there's a large library you can use.

    Bang for the buck

You won't find a better option to get your GE credits. You're also guaranteed admission to any credited university in Florida once you get your associate's degree.

    What to do for fun

SPC has a full calendar of game nights, they also do outdoor movie nights, date nights, dances, etc. Not much of the student body participates in these things because they're really only going for classes and not for the campus culture, but there's always plenty to do if you're into socializing and want to spend time on the campus.

    Food and Dining

There are several campuses around the Tampa Bay area, and all of the ones I've been to have offered a cafe, and an abundance of vending machines. The cafe prices are a little high for what you get, but you won't go hungry if you need to eat between classes.

    Dorm Life

There's very little on-campus life going on at this college, because most of the students are working adults who have families. Most of the students go to campus, take their class, and then go to work or home. SPC does organize social events, but you won't really find much campus culture here.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are very lenient about deadlines and are very willing to help you make the grades you want - if you're willing to ask for help and put in the effort. This is a community college and almost all the students are also working full time and have families, and the teachers are very mindful of this.

    Tips for prospective students

The registrar is very willing to help you enroll, but don't wait until the last minute... you'll find yourself waiting for 2-3 hours at times to speak to a counselor.

    In three sentences

St. Petersburg College is a great option for people who are still figuring out what they want to do. You can earn your general education credits and get a taste of everything, while the college encourages you to try new things and get out in the community. Almost every class I took had me going out and doing something I never would have thought to do otherwise.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes can be very tough and others seem easy. It all depends on what courses you are taking and which professors you chose. You can set your own pass, so its most comfortable for you. Chose your classes and schedule for you.

Also, use the services they provide, they are there to help you, so don't be afraid to ask for the help that is there for you. Also, use Ratemyprofessor.com.

SPC is situated in Pinellas County, and there are a countless number of things to do in the area such as visiting Clearwater Beach or the Countryside Mall/Cobb Theatre. Also, Busch Gardens and Adventure Island are at most an hour's drive away in Tampa. It only takes a quick look into Google to find what you can do here.

    Food and Dining

There are excellent on-campus cafe's at SPC's numerous county-wide locations as well as local restaurants and fast food establishments.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms or housing at SPC since it is a community college.

    Academic Rigor

St. Petersburg College has about an average level of academic rigor. Most universities would rate a 5 on this scale. This is because SPC has professors who care deeply about the success of their stuednts and will wilingly help you to acheive the best grade you can. The workload is about the same as you would recieve in any ordinary high school, and the classes are most certainly taught at a college level.

    Tips for prospective students

I would reccomend this college to any students who want an easy progression into what college is all about. I attended UCF right out of high school and it's a big change to have to suddenly adjust to. Spending your first two years at SPC will prepare you for the academic rigors you will encounter at a typical university, and it's an affordable option as well.

    In three sentences

St. Petersburg College is a great place to earn your Associate's Degree, and it also offers an Early College program and Dual Enrollment for high school juniors and seniors. The professors are very interested and involved in the students' success and are extremely reliable if additional tutoring or help is needed. It is a great community college to go to if aspiring to go to any of Florida's in-state universities for further education.
