Great for these types of students

I'm not going to lie, small schools are not for everyone. Stetson is perfect for a student who wants a personable and beautiful Florida campus. It is perfect for a student who wants to learn, who wants to get to know his/her professor on a personal level, and who wants to put in the work and see positive results inside the classroom and out.

    Tips for prospective students

As mentioned many times, Stetson University is a small school, population-wise, so it is important to get involved. Fortunately, there are more than plenty chances to do so, with over 100 active organizations. From campus ministries, to Greek life, to intramural sports, academic clubs, innumerous community service opportunities, there are so many things to get plugged into, and I highly recommend it. It will take some time to learn the right balance between student involvement and academics, but I do not think anyone should ever have to choose between one or the other. Get involved, and get to know the people around you; it’s a small campus, so you’ll see them a lot! In addition to that, I advise getting to know the community. I love food, and a great way to learn about DeLand is to visit the many mom-and-pop local restaurants (not all at once, of course). Small businesses tend to suffer in economic times such as these-- they can use student support, and we can benefit from their services, so utilize them! DeLand, although small, is a nice kind of small, with a cute main street right next to campus. Visit it, learn it, love it.

    Bang for the buck

So yes, Stetson is small, classes are small, professors are awesome, campus life is great…but that all comes at a price (and a rather large one at that). Being private, Stetson does not receive state funds anywhere near the extent that public institutions do. Tuition is a bit higher than most Florida schools, but not quite as extreme as many northern schools, so at least there’s that. In addition, the leaders of this University truly seek students who desire to be here, so there is an incredible amount of financial aid provided. I worked hard in high school and was fortunate enough to have a large financial aid package, and I know many students who can say the same. But that doesn’t mean everything is overpriced. The Study Abroad options here are outstanding, with all of one’s financial aid carrying over. Essentially, I could study here in DeLand, FL, or study overseas in Scotland for the same price, in my case, close to free. Who can complain about that, especially when many institutions have additional fees for these great opportunities?

    Am enjoying being here

Stetson is not “school” to me; it is my home. It was hard at first to get used to the fact that my friends from high school were no longer by my side, but by getting plugged in on campus and getting to know the local community, I quickly adjusted. One thing about pricey private schools with good reputations (such as Stetson) is that the students aren’t just here to get a piece of paper with their name on it at the end of four years. Students are here to excel, to prove themselves, and to learn. The relationships I have built with my peers, professors, and teammates have made my stay here more than enjoyable. I have a long-term boyfriend at the University of Florida who occasionally (and somewhat jokingly) asks me when I’m going to transfer to UF, and although I’d love to be closer to him, I wouldn’t even consider the idea of leaving Stetson.

    Am learning a lot

With a revamped curriculum that was launched this fall, Stetson is offering a wider variety of classes than ever. This school is designed with the goal of every student graduating with a well-rounded education, and I wholeheartedly feel this at work in me. I came to Stetson with my major already decided, but even so, have taken classes ranging from Biblical Literature, to Nutrition, to Psychology. Stetson is good at being the small school it is, and with that comes the benefit of a friendly and effective learning environment. Every class is taught by an actual professor (not assistant) who is readily accessible--most have complete open-door policies. The courses can be difficult, but that simply means there is more information being provided. If I ever have a tough time with the material, all I have to do is utilize one of the innumerous resources that are present here and waiting to be put to use. In addition to academics, the Stetson campus is a learning environment in itself. I have learned more in the past few semesters about how to live, how to manage my time, who to surround myself with, and so much more. There are so many outlets on campus that provide information for students about eating well, living well, and learning well that are, in my opinion, not only irreplaceable, but also one of the characteristics of this institution that makes it so unique.

Great for these types of students

Pre-law and music students. Not great for people just looking for a party school.

    Tips for prospective students

Join an on campus organization. If you do so, you will have plenty of friends and never be bored. Also, take advantage of the small class sizes. Classes can be challenging, but the professors are all very willing to help.

    Bang for the buck

The major drawback for me is the cost of attendance. It is not cheap. Even after scholarships and grants, I still have to take out loans each semester to pay for school. This is not the case for all students though. Many do receive enough financial aid to attend Stetson for free.

    Am enjoying being here

The biggest complaint that students have about Stetson, and DeLand in general, is that it is too quiet on the weekends. If you are really big into drinking and partying, Stetson may not be the school for you. However, I have always found that Stetson has plenty to offer for me. Every Friday night, the CSA puts on fun activities, there is always some place on campus to find free food, and it is easy to keep oneself busy with all the concerts, organizations, and sports teams on campus. As an added bonus, Stetson is about halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach and it is not a long drive to either one.

    Am learning a lot

Stetson has a teacher to student ratio of 11 to 1. That being the case, a remarkable amount of attention is given to each student, especially if they seek extra help themselves. Classes are challenging, but not impossible. There are also plenty of guest speakers that the school brings onto campus for lectures and presentations.

If you are a cerebral person, who isn't big on the party scene you will love Stetson. Also if you appreciate individual attention from your professors, and are willing to do some serious work this is the place for you. Be warned, Stetson is not the kind of college where you can not show up for class and no one will notice. Classes are small enough that everyone will notice, and chances are that your professor will see you around campus later that day. Serious students only! Also, if you are kind of quirky, you will probably find a lot of like minded people here. Last year we had an on campus 'zombie outbreak' if that gives you an idea about the campus culture. Stetson is also great for people who want to make a difference in their communities. They really push service here, and there are many volunteer opportunities.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip is come visit the campus! There are campus tours practically all year round. When I was a prospective student, Stetson had several informational meetings near where I lived as well as at the university. These meetings always have alumni, staff, and students who will tell you everything you need to know to make your decision. The Stetson website is also pretty informative.

    Bang for the buck

If there is anything bad to say about Stetson it would have to be the price. It is a lot more expensive than the big state schools like UF. In fact, it costs about as much as northern private universities. They do try to help their students with financial aid. I got a pretty generous financial aid package, but I still have had to take out loans to cover the costs. And with recent cuts to student aid at the state and federal level, Stetson's one flaw can really turn out to be a big one. I've had a couple friends who have had to drop out because they can't afford it anymore. Stetson is a really great school though, so you can make the argument that it is well worth the price.

    Am enjoying being here

Stetson University has all the perks of being a small school. There are no huge crowds. Everyone will know your name, from your professors to the staff members. The people here are also really friendly. The quiet, suburb atmosphere might not be for you though if you want a huge party scene. Aside from frat parties, campus can be pretty quiet on weekends. However, student organizations do try to provide regular activities for the students such as free movie screenings, the annual paint party, comedians, and lots of other events. Stetson is also really close to Orlando and Daytona Beach. The campus is really beautiful with a lot of green space, and trees and flowers. Most of the dorms are okay. It really depends on which one you get. I live in Stetson's new pet dorms. Being able to bring my dog was a huge plus for me when picking a school. But the pet dorms are not the nicest ones. They are also pretty far from the heart of campus. But most of the other ones I have seen are nice, clean, and spacious. Right now the university is updating a lot of the buildings as well as doing some landscaping, so expect things to look even better in the future.

    Am learning a lot

Stetson definitely delivers on academics. A few programs are especially rigorous, like the music program. I personally am a biology major, and all of the professors I've had so far have been excellent teachers. They have also been very helpful and approachable, not only in terms of classes, but academic and career goals in the field. I've learned a lot about graduate programs, and applying for jobs. The science building has pretty good facilities, and the labs are great. The foreign language department is also very good. I'm taking German, and I am amazed at how much I've learned in just a year of study. Speaking of foreign languages, Stetson really pushes study abroad programs for its students. There are semester long programs and summer programs to several countries.

Great for these types of students

Students looking to push themselves academically and make their own way at college. Leaders who want to have the resources and opportunities to flourish.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and make connections in admissions. Come to campus for a visit too!

    Bang for the buck

It is a private school, and thus on the more expensive side, but Stetson offers many merit scholarships so that you are paying considerably less (I'm paying less than I would pay at my in-state University of Illinois). Financial aid can also help you find additional scholarships outside the university.

    Am enjoying being here

Both Stetson and the DeLand community have much to offer. Stetson has over 100 clubs, including gardening, cycling, sports ... you name it Stetson has it (or you can start it really easily)! DeLand is surrounded by state parks (both containing beautiful freshwater springs), a state forest, and a wildlife refuge for the outdoor lover.

    Am learning a lot

The Stetson professors are the best in the nation and take great pride in their focus on students.

Great for these types of students

Party people, unless you plan to transfer in as an upperclassman. I have heard that once students reach their junior year they buckle down and get to work. If you plan to join the honors program, your fellow students tend to have peculiar personalities.

    Bang for the buck

/Very/ expensive! Definitely private school prices. I only give 2 stars because they did offer free printing and free laundry. For the price of the school, it is almost expected.

    Did enjoy being here

The dorms were old and falling apart. Many of the rooms were stinky, and there is definitely a mold problem in Stetson Hall that needed to be addressed. For example, in the bathrooms there would often be rings of black mold around the drain for the bathtubs. The school itself has a lot of partying. If that is what you like in a school, I recommend it. I did not enjoy the parties. Often there would be smoking outside the designated areas (and the smoke would travel inside my room), and there would often be old cigarettes and beer bottles on the ground after a weekend. The staff only appeared to care about landscaping and cleaning up the campus right before weekends/weeks when the parents were expected to visit. Despite that Stetson makes everyone live on campus until their junior year, all the students that don't want to party leave to go home during the weekends. I was an out-of-state student, and as I didn't like to party, I was very bored on the weekends. If Stetson were to create incentives for students to stay at their dorms on weekends (and to turn the focus from being entirely on partying), I think that the school would improve immensely.

    Did learn a lot

I was very disappointed in my learning experience at Stetson. The only class that I learned something new was from Dr. Sitler for Spanish. He was an amazing professor, and I recommend taking his courses to anyone interested in taking a Spanish course.

Stetson is great for those who prefer small town over big city, nature-lovers and students who want to be part of our small Stetson community. For those who want to party, we do have fraternity parties, but if your expecting something like 'Animal House' then try another college that is party crazy.

    Tips for prospective students

When coming into Stetson take time to get yourself organized and never leave anything the last minute. Sure that test is a month away, but sooner or later your other professor will want an essay due in two weeks, then the other class wants a project due next week. Basically you will find yourself with no time to study if you leave everything last minute. So, for the sake of your sanity start everything early. Another important item that you WILL need is a planner. This will be your survival guide for the whole year, it keeps you organized and sane. Ultimately, do not forget to also have fun in college and socialize. One of the things that has kept me going was the support of my teachers, friends and my helpful study buddies.

    Bang for the buck

At this point Stetson sounds like it has to problems or issues. Wait, what is that? Oh look that's the backhand of reality. This is how I felt the first time I saw the tuition. I'm from a low middle class Hispanic family so we are not exactly sipping from golden goblets that are encrusted with diamonds and living la vida loca. Thankfully, Stetson knows that it costs a lot and tries everything to help you afford it. The Financial Aid Office is filled with amazing people that are willing to help you get through this wall and quell any worries you have. Also if you think they made a mistake in your bill, do not feel nervous about calling them. They are there to help and will fix any mistakes that they have made. Overall, Stetson is worth the cost.

    Am enjoying being here

Do not get me started on how much fun I'm having at Stetson because we may be here all day...or a few days. To the point, ever since I started to volunteer in high school I have grown to love volunteering to the point that it was not a chore, but a fun activity I was a part of. The community of Deland may be quiet in the party scene, but it has so many opportunities for the volunteering junkie. My experiences range from bathing dogs at New Horizons to occasionally lending a hand in our school's garden. The gardening was a big think for me since I have been known to have the black thumb of famine. Stetson is not only volunteering there are also a number of events going on. You just need to keep your ear to the ground, your eyes on the colorful posters that tell you when the event is and your mouth spreading the news to friends so they can have fun too. The organizations in charge of the fun are CSA and Nightcap; these two handle the fun on the weekends. On the weekdays you can count on the fraternities, sororities and clubs to have an event planned that is filled with fun. My favorite events this year was the snow fight (yes Nightcap made it snow for us.), the tie-dyeing, any event involving food and IMPACT (hosted by my lovely Bonners!). Even if you miss out on any event you can still have fun with friends. I can still remember the brutal game of Mario Kart that we all had and how we acted like 'Chickens Roaming the Prairie' during our game of Cranium at the coffee shop. Good times.

    Am learning a lot

Stetson University has given me a chance to finally love learning. Unlike in high school, I was in large classes of usually thirty-one students and being in Stetson and having classes with only twenty or fifteen students is refreshing. The small numbers also give the professors an easier time to really get to know their students. The professors there actually pay attention to you and want to see you succeed and thanks to some amazing professors I have managed to survive my freshman year and develop effective study habits. The school itself has so many different classes and majors that I found myself studying for a Biology test one moment, in another trying to get some friends to help me in a Sociology experiment involving eating popcorn out of an empty tampon box or talking to people with my back to them and finally I end my day with an argument about how much I’m in love with Albrecht Dürer and have my friends poke fun at me since he is dead. Don’t judge me! Stetson is not all fun and games you will have to work, but believe me it is worth it. I have never learned so much about sociology, biology, art history, history, math or any other subject until I came to Stetson. I'm even more surprised that I actually started a conversation about how my favorite hypothesis test was Anova in my statistic class. This is one of the many side effects that you may experience when in college: you develop an interest to something you used to hate.

Stetson is a place for all students. If you need one-on-one help there's tutoring or the teachers have office hours to go to for help. You can sometimes even catch them between classes. The classes, themselves, are pretty small ranging 12 - 25 students. The largest classroom can hold 100 and that's the auditorium. It's only for meetings and events though. Not class.

    Tips for prospective students

Sign up for housing and classes early!! They fill up quick!!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is a little pricey but it's totally worth it!

    Tips for prospective students

Its kind of expensive for someone that doesn't have any help other than the government, but it is a private college. The bonner program helps out fellow volunteers with 75% of tuition paid. So if you like helping out the community and can't afford tuition, I would suggest you apply to Bonner!!

    Will enjoy being here

I visited this campus and fell in love with it when I stepped out the car. It has an amazing campus that anyone will love. The people are so nice and the faculty seem like they care.

    Campus Safety

P-Safe is safe! But very chill, so if you aren't making a lot of noise or endangering others and yourself they don't rag on you. They drive around with their cool golf carts and offer students rides, even if they are intoxicated. There are loads of emergency poles and I have never felt endangered, on-campus. Off campus is a different story. Some areas are... sketchy. Just be smart and don't travel alone at night. I've never felt really worried, but just a bit nervous so it's not that bad.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is totally different than most schools. Because we are so small there is very little clique-ish activity and being a non-Greek isn't a bad thing either. I'm not exactly your typical Greek either. I'm kinda lame and not at all a sorority girl, but I hold myself up to a high standard of academia. I'm not easy or rude and I don't have a lot of money. It's totally different than what you'd expect. I could tell you that all I want, but you just have to see for yourself.

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs are super great and active! Best part is you can start any club you feel Stetson needs. This year I'm starting Hatter Historical Hikers and we are volunteering at parks, presenting for cultural credit at school, holding fundraising events, making recycled material into usable decorations, and going on trips to the Keys and St. Augustine. Plus, I'm involved with two awesome club sports, Stetson Sand Volleyball and Equestrian Club. Not only do these clubs do shows and play in tournaments, but they build a network of care for their members. There is always something going on.

Great for these types of students

If you want a personalized education, this is the school for you. If you want to be able to say It's a-me! Mario! when your teacher Dr. Mario Rodriguez walks into class the first day and have the Professor be totally cool with it, this is the school for you. If you don't mind having a creepy mascot, this is the school for you. If you want to ride bikes for a class about ecology, this is definitively the school for you!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Tell people your birthday.... so they can through you in the fountain! And then y'all can get yelled at by P-safe! It's a grand ol' time. There are cool events all the time and there is always the ghost tours put on by the History Club, by the way, Stetson is totally haunted. Go into Elizabeth Hall with a recorder and some ghost knowledge from TV shows and you'll see. Go during a hurricane black out like my friends and I did our first semester, it'll help you to not sleep when you study for finals! And during finals they give out coffee and cookies in the library.

    Bang for the buck

Stetson is dang expensive, but they help out a lot! I received scholarships for grades and vocal performance. Make sure you check out all your options because even though Stetson seems out of reach, it is not. You can defiantly find money through cool programs like Cappex and other scholarship engines.

    What to do for fun

Frats? Check. Clubs? Check. Pubs? Check. But are those really fun? Nope, not in my opinion. I love the area around Stetson U, because there are amazing forests and beaches. And there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer through groups like Circle K, Hatter Historical Hikers, and the monthly Into the Streets event. Plus there are always some really cool events put on by Hatter Productions (a board of students.)

    Food and Dining

For food allergy babies like I am, opt out of the meal plan. Do what ever it takes, because the cross-contamination is... frightful. If you aren't so sensitive the food isn't all that bad, but it isn't really healthy. There are SGA bills in the works to push the school toward greener food with more sustainability and healthier options.

    Dorm Life

Okay, so I won't sugar-coat it. For the most part the dorms suck. There is mold and it can get nasty and there is not enough room for everyone, but Stetson is working to change it. They are building more dorms and redoing some of the old ones to be more eco-friendly and safer. Plus, they have special dorms like Wellness House (absolutely wonderful, lived there 1st semester,) pet dorms, and the really cool UVA apartments and Stetson COVE apartments.

    Academic Rigor

Hard. Not just hard, but stressful. But, you learn more than you could ever imagine. The work is worth it and you always have people to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your crazy streak out in your first semester or so, then hit the ground running. Once you find your major and where you belong you'll know and it'll be impossible to keep you away from your passions!

    In three sentences

Stetson is small but does BIG things for the community. Stetson dares you to be significant; it's not just a stupid slogan. Stetson offers you the freedom and support that no other school can.

    Campus Safety

The public safety at stetson are on top of everything. They are patrolling the school 24 hours a day to make sure everything is alright and everything is running smoothly. You can actually call them for a ride across school if you really want to and they have no problem with that. They will come to your dorm and rive you to wherever you want to go on campus. I have done that a few times and it is pretty nice. Overall they are very good.

    Greek Life

Although Stetson is a smaller private school, the Greek life on this campus is intense. They get involved in many social and community events helping out with whatever they can. They are also the life of the party. If you want to go out and enjoy yourself and have a good time after a long week of hard work then the FRATS is were it is at. They are very friendly and will allow almost everyone into there house to party and socialize.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many extra curricular activities you can do while attending Stetson. Most people play in the club sports because it is the same as competing in a real game but it is club instead of NCAA. There are also lots of side clubs you can get involved in, you just have to contact the director of that club and you will be on your way to having a good time.

Great for these types of students

If you are a student that needs lots of help and tutoring, Stetson is the place for you. You can get all of the tutoring and help you want because it is all included into your tuition. There are many computer labs with supplies and printer that you may also use at no charge because it is all included into your tuition.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is the Fountain located in the center of campus and although people do throw change into it, it is also where you take your friends at midnight of their birthday and throw them in. We did this many times this year so it has now become a tradition to be thrown into the fountain on your birthday.

    Bang for the buck

Stetson is a very expensive school to attend but they do their best to give you as much money as they can to help you out. Although it is very expensive, graduating from such a prestigious school will most likely land you a great job that will help pay for student loans you may have accumulated while attending school.

    What to do for fun

I am a football player at Stetson so for me, football is my fun. If I don;t have football, we will most likely travel over to Daytona for the day and go to the beach and enjoy our day over there. They do have a pool on campus so you can go to that as well. The Edmund's center is also a very entertaining place to go and have fun. They have a full weight-room, ping pong, basketball courts, pool table, etc. It is the social spot.

    Food and Dining

Stetson does an amazing job in food and dining. I am a morning person so I am going to say that the breakfast food is the best. You can get basically anything you can think of for breakfast and Friday mornings is biscuits and gravy day which is my favorite. Other than breakfast, lunch and dinner are also very good. They give you a very wide selection of things to chose from which is good so you don't get used to the same thing over and over again.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms was a great experience for me. I personally like living in the community bathrooms because you don't have to clean the bathrooms yourself. Living in the dorms aloud me to meet many new people and allowed all of us to hangout and study together while having lots of fun at the same time.

    Academic Rigor

This is the Harvard of the South they say and after going through my freshmen year, I can conform that statement completely. There is no slacking off or getting an easy class. Every class you take is going to challenge you.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to write many papers and study really hard. Depending upon what professors you receive, you could have a lot more work in one class. Overall, all of the professors are very nice and it is a great environment to be in.

    In three sentences

This is a small private institution located in DeLand, Florida. It is a very well organized and fun school to attend. The academic standards are set very high and it is an all around great place to be.

Great for these types of students

People who are academic/class oriented, and want a more one-on-one personal feel with both your professors and classmates. Those who want a rigorous education and a comfortable atmosphere that feels like home. Students who don't want to go to a big school in a big city and party all the time.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on going to Stetson, just be prepared for rigorous academics mixed with a casual, small town atmosphere. Don't expect to party every night, but there's always something going on during the weekend. Just be prepared to put in the effort for your education, and have fun with the rest.

    Bang for the buck

I'll cut to the chase, Stetson is expensive. But if you want a cheap school, your education and environment won't be the same as a Stetson student's. The great thing about Stetson is that its small size allows classes to be small - I never had a class over 40 students, for example, whereas my sister who went to the University of Central Florida had classes over 100 people that she couldn't even attend because the classroom was full. I was able to meet my professors virtually whenever I wanted, talk with them, even have meals with them. It's expensive, but if you want the private-school level academics mixed with a comfortable homey atmosphere where you can talk to advisors and professors every day, it's worth every cent.

    Did enjoy being here

Stetson was home for me, I loved it. People sometimes refer to it as a suitcase campus, meaning people come during the week for classes and leave on the weekends, but I didn't find that to be true. Sure, it's a quieter, small school in a quiet, small town, but if you meet the right people there's ALWAYS something going on. Plus, with the addition of Football to Stetson and the recent renovation of the campus, I saw in my last year that the student body got a lot more active. I expect to see it get even better in the next few years.

    Did learn a lot

Ask anyone, no matter what they think about Stetson, they cannot deny the academics. I learned a lot in my four years at Stetson, and I truly feel that they prepared me for the future, graduate school, careers and all.

    Bang for the buck

Stetson administration helps with financial aid and takes a majority of scholarships as well.

    Will enjoy being here

They have a pet dorm which is great for students who have pets that they don't wish to leave behind.

    Will learn a lot

Their student to teacher ratio is 11:1, which I think is great. I know I would love that extra help that Stetson students receive, and it would help in giving me a better learning experience.

Great for these types of students

Great for those who want to go to a small school.

    Tips for prospective students

One tip I'd give to prospective students is to stay focused. College is fun, but you're there ultimately to earn a degree.

    Bang for the buck

Stetson is extremely expensive. I came here on scholarship and I'm still having troubles for paying for school.

    Am enjoying being here

Stetson is located in a small rural town, so there isn't much to do off campus unless you have a car and are able to drive out to Orlando or Daytona. On campus, however, Stetson has done a good job of keeping its students preoccupied. We have something called Hatter Productions on campus whose goal is provide activities for students like on campus movie nights or Stetson's Anual Winter Wonderland.

    Am learning a lot

The academics at Stetson are unbelievably amazing. I've learned so much. The small class sizes are great, because you get to know your professors on a more personal basis. Also the professors are extremely helpful. Stetson also has on campus learning centers that are willing to help you with anything ranging from writing to media projects.

Great for these types of students

Serious academic students, students looking for a strong social environment, and students looking to grow culturally should seriously consider attending Stetson University.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring a comfortable pair of walking shoes, because you're going to want to see everything that Stetson, and DeLand have to offer.

    Bang for the buck

Stetson has been rated as one of the best schools in the South for its cost. As a private college the cost is more than that of a state college, but the education and environment are well worth the cost, not to mention future opportunities.

    Am enjoying being here

Going to Stetson is not just a step towards better education. While education is important, the DeLand community makes it very easy to assimilate. The town is a very enjoyable friendly place to live, with many weekend activities open for the students to enjoy.

    Am learning a lot

Stetson is a wonderful place to develop oneself academically. It offers a great education in many fields, most notably business, law, and performing arts. The classes are challenging and interesting, something really important when looking into higher education.

Small school setting is for the type of student that wants to learn. It does put you in the spotlight at times but it helps with thinking on your feet and you actually do learn because there is no room for hiding behind others considering the classes are small classroom sizes not auditorium like.

    Am enjoying being here

    Campus Safety

I often talk about campus safety on my tours and explain to perspective students and their concerned parents that in four years on campus, I have never once felt threatened or concerned for my safety. The campus is equipped with blue boxes, poles in which an emergency button, if pushed, alerts the campus police (another form of security) who will arrive momentarily to assist in any way. The campus police, or P.Safe as students refer to them are constant;y patrolling the campus at all hours of the day and are simply a phone call away for anything including lockouts and a simple courtesy ride from one building to another. The greatest form of a safety threat that I have experienced at the school was during my sophomore year in which a black bear cub was stuck in a tree on campus... true story!

    Clubs and Activities

As a senior at Stetson, I am still amazed at the large selection of clubs and organizations to participate and get involved in. From Habitat for Humanity to groups recognizing and promoting equality for all races, sexes, and religions, there is something for everyone. In addition, the school also offers six nationally recognized fraternities and five nationally recognized sororities that students can join. Sports are also extremely popular on campus and thus, in addition to division athletics, the school also offers club sports, which are a step down from division sports but still let students travel and compete against other schools, and also intramural sports in which all students on campus can create teams and participate against anyone else on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Of the oldest traditions at Stetson is to be thrown into the fountain in the quad on your birthday. Although this has thankfully not happened to me, I have seen it many times and get a good laugh every time! And, to spice things up, it is not really allowed so you have to be somewhat sneaky to avoid being caught by the campus police!

    Bang for the buck

Forget spending money looking for entertainment, Stetson has it covered! The university offers a wide and enjoyable variety of organizations that work solely to provide entertainment for the student body. From screening movies before they're released to DVD, to having well-known, T.V. famous comedians, these organizations provide fun for all at no cost!

    What to do for fun

Although many students feel that the community of Deland Florida is rather small, I would counter this argument explaining that yes it may be somewhat small but still boasts an extremely large sense of friendliness and activity. I have always said that Deland is parade happy because they seem to be constantly having festivals, cook-offs, car shows, concerts, parades and much more. The downtown itself boasts an impressive array of restaurants, bars, and shops of all likes that I have found to be both more than enjoyable and welcoming. Outside of the downtown district, Deland itself is ideally located among many of Florida's natural springs allowing students to visit these beautiful water parks, swim with manatees, and experience camping. Deland is also a mere 20 minutes south of Daytona and the beaches on the east coast, as well as an hour's drive away from Orlando, a mecca of entertainment in all varieties.

    Food and Dining

I have to admit that Stetson's dining options could be more impressive but given the small size of the campus, less than 3,000 students, the establishments that are there offer an decent array of options. When I give tours on campus and am asked about the food, I reply honestly and tell perspective students that, just like any other school or dining establishment, there are good days and bad days. I have favorite meals and those that I avoid, but all in all I do generally like the food offered at school. Students are also quite active in helping the campus administration in making changes and alterations to actual menus and meals.

    Dorm Life

Stetson has a fairly steadfast policy in which they require students to live on campus for the first two-three years, and I personally am a big advocate of this. Living in a two person dorm at Stetson was the first time I have ever had to share a room, for any long extent of time, with anyone. So being somewhat forced into this situation was tough at first but I eventually came to see that learning to coexist with a complete stranger has been one of the hardest things yet most educational experiences of my college career. I am forever encouraging perspective students to live on campus, even if only for a semester, so that they may experience this unique college aspect themselves.

    Academic Rigor

For myself, Stetson's academic rigor is fairly high. My senior year has been particularly difficult as the culmination of the past three years' education comes to a closing. I would definitely argue that between my senior and freshmen years there was an increase in the challenge and push to work harder and produce more educated and well-rounded work. I feel that Stetson really encourages independent learning and developing during your time at the school and I feel as though my time at the school as done just that and helped mature me in more ways than just in the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

Stetson is a small private school, meaning for many students coming from public high schools it is the same and in some cases actually smaller in student population. Many students, including myself, chose Stetson for this reason, so a tip for the wise would be to make quite sure you want to attend a small and therefore close-knit college before actually investing yourself financially. This can be done, easily for some, by visiting the campus. Many schools host open houses and preview days where perspective students can visit the campus, take tours, eat in the dining halls, stay in the dorms and even sit-in on actual classes. Stetson offers all the above and these steps can benefit one greatly in making decisions on where to attend.

    In three sentences

If you are looking for a private university in Florida that offers a beautiful campus, great student body, incomparable student/professor interaction, worthwhile education and so much more, Stetson University is the place for you. This friendly community will make you feel at home instantly while simultaneously opening your eyes to invaluable experiences and lessons. Although somewhat pricey, attending Stetson has been one of the best decisions I have yet to make!

stetson does not have a curfew, so students are free to come and go as they please. guests are allowed to visit and stay on campus with students, and many of the dorm halls are gender-neutral.

    What to do for fun

aside from the various clubs and organizations, stetson's nightlife has downtown deland to offer. in downtown, there are restaurants, sports bars, theaters, shops, and more. often, there are different shows or events going on that stetson students usually take part in, like art shows, parades, or zombies vs. humans.

    Food and Dining

there aren't any major outside food vendors, but there is an einstein's bagel shop, a newton's grill, and a cafe that serves starbucks coffee. the food served in the cafeteria, known as the commons, is quality food but some days are better than others. for the most part, i enjoy the food at stetson, but there is room for improvement.

    Dorm Life

while some students enjoy dorm life more than others, there are things that are common for any living experience. there may be a community bathroom, and its cleanliness would depend on the people living there. another common problem is noise, since we are college students and want to have fun late at night. other than those issues, living in a dorm is great. you form friendships with new people and become acquainted with living on your own.

    Academic Rigor

the work can be rigorous but it is definitely doable. time management is a necessity for any college student.

    Tips for prospective students

as a prospective student, i would recommend a campus tour, shadowing some classes for a day, and meeting with the advisors and teachers. take classes that have interesting or engaging teachers.

    In three sentences

stetson is a great school for someone that is serious about their education while still wanting to have fun and explore their independence. there are several clubs and organizations that one can become a part of, and each of them become like a second family for students. class sizes are smaller so student-teacher relationships are easier to form and one-on-one help is common.

    Campus Safety

Public Safety patrols the campus at all hours and you can usually spot them roaming just by looking around. They are also always reachable either by phone or by simply pressing the button on one of the many blue-lighted stations set up around campus. The officers themselves are also really friendly and are always glad to help out.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is big on campus at Stetson but it doesn't end with just the Fraternities and Sororities themselves. The Greeks usually include the rest of the school's population on their events as well as hosting some specifically for the other students. Also, all the different chapters are friendly and welcoming.

    Clubs and Activities

If you look hard enough, you can pretty much find a club for everything including Dance, Aikido, Ultimate Frisbee, Anime, Sign Language, and many more. If there isn't one that suits you already made, its not hard to start one yourself.

Great for these types of students

Whether you're a bookworm or a sports fanatic, everyone pretty much fits in at Stetson. Though the school does have a large focus for music students with the Stetson School of Music. Many fine musicians have graduated from here.

Different students are always coming up with new things to do on campus in our many fields and even in the Quad. Something that I have looked forward to in the past have been the events that are set up every year by Hatter Productions which include movie nights and a paint party.

    Bang for the buck

With your degree, the classes you study and the clubs that you take part in are definitely worth the cost.

    What to do for fun

With numerous clubs and organizations, there's never time for having nothing to do. Also, town is within walking distance and has opportunities for fun such as a comedy club, theatres, and shopping.

    Food and Dining

Between the Hat Rack, Commons, and the Coffee Shop, there is actually plenty of places to find food. We also have the C-store for when you just want something to snack on or something to cook yourself as well as household needs. The campus is also within walking distance of a lot of restaurants in town.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms has really helped me get closer to my peers. Unfortunately there is the occasional resident that doesn't abide by the hall rules and it can tend to make studying difficult. That's usually when I just find a new spot to study in.

    Academic Rigor

Classes here are smaller than at most colleges and universities and that really helps because it allows more chances to receive help from your professors. Also because the classes are smaller, the professors don't go light when it comes to class and homework. They like to set the bar high and be proud when you achieve it.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't focus so much on how pretty the campus is, but rather what you can do with it. Stetson has plenty of space to spread out and really find who you are. Be sure to check out more than one club or academic field cause there really are a lot to choose from.

    In three sentences

Stetson has a wonderful atmosphere that made me feel right at home since day one. I have had no issues with getting comfortable with the academic routines and have managed to study peacefully. Stetson also offers plenty of extracurricular things to do which is a bonus.

Stetson is a very good school. The teachers are what make your experience worth while. It is a good place to learn and become yourself...a young, responsible adult!

its like living in a little village.

    Greek Life

RULES THE CAMPUS... go greek or your time at stetson will probably be lame and boring.

    Clubs and Activities

greek life pretty much will hook you into everything else

Great for these types of students

kids will money , parents who pay for things, people who have a car and are interesting in joining Greek life. Music students ( although the music program is really tough. a couple kids have committed suicide... no joke.)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

UVA club house is the best place to study and do hw but you need access to get in. Just knock or wait for someone to let you in if you don't have access. mostly ppl just hang at their sorirety house and with their greek bro's and sisters outside of the commons or in the quad

    Bang for the buck

the small class sizes and professor attention is worth the price but its still a lot of money. If your parents are willing to pay go for it. you may love it if you're looking for a small town feel. if you're taking out loans and paying on your own... you may want to weigh your options.

    What to do for fun

Join greek life, its really the only way you're going to have any kind of fun at stetson. Even the athletes try to join greek if they can. Volunteer in an organization. Go to the beach, lay out by the pool or in the quad to talk to friends. Go to socials (greek life) go to bars, and what ever local dance places are open. work out at the gym. intramural sports

    Food and Dining

the food SUCKS... gross be prepared to get a doctors note so you can be released from your meal plan especially if you have a special diet. there aren't many options for late night eating. Hopefully you have a car or some snacks in your room. & in the deland town the only place that stays open past like 9 is subway and tacobell.

    Dorm Life

The best dorms on campus are the apartments and hall A. if you have to be in another dorm choose emily because there is a lot happening there. it was a pretty fun place to be. As a freshman I would choose to live in the freshman dorms even though they are really cramped because you only have one opportunity to get that freshman experience and being in the dorms with other freshman is how you will make friends. Once you're a senior you will look back and think about all the fun and exciting memories.

    Academic Rigor

Stetson is pretty challenging unless you're in the business school. the first semester may seem easy breezy but don't be fooled into thinking that you can just slack off and still make good grades. The arts and sciences program is difficult enough so that you're learning and getting a good education but not too challenging that its not do able. Make sure you keep a good gpa... getting C's your first semester can be hard to fix.

    Tips for prospective students

come for a campus visit but don't be sold on just how beautiful the campus is. Ask students what they really like and dislike about the school. Don't always listen to your tour guide, their job is to try and sell you to the school so make sure you get a chance to break away from the group and ask the students what they think. One thing you need to consider is campus life and activities. Since it is a small school there arent as many things going on as say UCF. Everyone at stetson is a paret of greek life. its like if you aren't you don't have a life. Deland is also not a great place to not have a car. Public transportation is virtually nonexisitent. The gym for regualr students kind of sucks. There are only like 5 treadmills and most of the time at least two of them are broken so make sure you come earlier if you want to work out. Downtown deland is really a short walk away from campus and thats were everyone hangs out on the party nights. So there is no risk of dui because you can just walk to the bars. Oh and after about 2 weeks you'll realize the commons food SUCKS... gross be prepared to get a doctors note so you can be released from your meal plan especially if you have a special diet.

    In three sentences

Stetson is an amazing school if you are looking for a small familiar environment. Once you're there its like being welcomed into a family as everyone knows each other. However, be prepared to pay for the small classes and one on one attention.

    What to do for fun

    Campus Safety

Public safety is timely in their arrival and regular in their patrols of campus. The officers are (for the most part) understanding and friendly when resolving an issue with another student(s). I haven't experienced any incidents of theft or felt unsafe, even when walking alone at the wee hours of the night/morning to my dorm.

    Greek Life

Greek life is well-maintained and active in the community with various community service projects and projects on campus. The Greek community has a great reputation with the administrators and staff at Stetson, earning high academic marks and athletic awards. The Greeks are also very interfraternal/ panhellenic.

    Clubs and Activities

The variety of clubs available to participate in is very diverse for a school with such a relatively small student population (~6,000). The clubs like equestrian, shooting, and skydiving all reflect the uniqueness of Deland. There are also traditional clubs like tennis, golf, and flag football.

Great for these types of students

Stetson University is a great fit for every student along the personality spectrums. There are sports and athletic opportunities for students interested in maintaining healthy lifestyles and fitness regimens. There are internships and opportunities to work with professors for academically fixated students. Media services and the library provide opportunities for students who love computers and film.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

People are thrown/ baptized in the fountain on their birthday. Relay for Life and Homeless for a Night are two exceptional events that occur during the year and engage students in non-profit work.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition price-tag can be extremely discouraging, but the financial aid office is easy to work with, and awards are generous enough to drastically reduce the costs of attendance.

    What to do for fun

Stetson offers many clubs unique to the area; such as: skydiving and surfing. Deland is the skydiving capital of the world and Daytona and New Smyrna Beach are within 45 minutes from campus. There is also a strong support for Greek Life and community service at Stetson, keeping in mind many peoples' interests.

    Food and Dining

The meals were as diverse as you would find in any college cafeteria. There are three on-campus alternatives to the cafeteria: the coffee shop, and the Einsteins/ Cafe. The selection can tire on you after a semester or two and vegans and vegetarians will find great difficulty when looking for meals more diverse than an average salad.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life I had my freshman year was great! My roommate and I were paired up based on major and schedule, so conflicts were minimized and our hall had strong cohesion. The bathrooms were kept clean. The individual dorms were at our own discretion.

    Academic Rigor

The science, history, and psychology classes here are thoroughly taught and the professors are exceptionally approachable. The classes that are difficult are inherently arduous: chemistry, modern civilizations, organic chemistry, etc.

    Tips for prospective students

Consider how much time you will (realistically) have during the semester to limit the amount of excess stuff you arrive with on campus. This place is great if you enjoy small-towns and being known by (almost) everybody. There is virtually no anonymity at Stetson.

    In three sentences

Vibrant student personalities greet you when you arrive on campus and stimulate growth in every aspect of life: spiritual, intellectual, and socially. The university is located in a rural town with a hodge-podge of small restaurants and shops within a mile of the campus. This campus is the premier location for holistic development and academic success; due, in part, to the relatively few distractions and disposition of the locals.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very small and intimate, so it's easy to know or recognize people. If you are walking alone, not much time goes by before you see a public safety officer or a campus call box. The campus is well lit and you can get to where you need to go quickly.

    Greek Life

There are 11 Greek Organizations to choose from. Those who want to get involved usually find a chapter to get involved in. The organizations plan many events and do lots of work in the community. The organizations reach outside of Greek Life and plan socials with athletic teams or other groups on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

For being such a small school, Stetson has a lot to get involved in. Clubs are based on religion, Greek affiliation, sports, languages, origin, basically anything you can think of. If you can't find something that suits you, you can always start your own club! It's easy and other people love trying something new.

Great for these types of students

Stetson University is great for students who enjoy small classrooms, making friends, and building relationships. It speaks to those who want to get involved and make a difference. There are many opportunities to start something new at Stetson, so it's great for students who love change!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One fun tradition is getting thrown in the fountain on your birthday! Each club and school also has their own traditions.

    Bang for the buck

Stetson in a very expensive school, but it also does a great job offering both merit and academic scholarships. If you can afford it, it's worth it.

    What to do for fun

DeLand is a small city, so there is a lot of community things to get involved in. University of Central Florida, Embry Riddle and Bethune-Cookman University are close by, so it's easy to get involved on those campuses as well. The beach is always a fun option, Sugar Mill has the best breakfast, local bands are always at the Da Vinci, you can visit Cassadega to get your palm read or mingle with the gypsies, there are bars and clubs in walking distance, and DeLand is the skydiving capital of the world!

    Food and Dining

The meal plan here is great. They feed you every meal, every day, and it's all you can eat! There are two meal plan options: number of meals and points. Freshman year is the only year you are required to have a meal plan, but I would highly recommend it. There is always a salad bar, a pasta bar, and a vegetarian option, and then a variety of other foods. There is only one cafeteria on campus, but there is also a smoothie place, Einstein Bagels, and a snack shop.

    Dorm Life

Like most universities, Stetson has many types of housing to choose from. Freshman dorms, co-ed dorms, healthy-living dorms, frat houses, upperclassmen apartments, etc are all options, and the staff does an amazing job getting you where you want to live and matching you with a compatible roommate. As a younger student, you have more planned social activities within the dorm, while as an older student you have more freedom to plan your own.

    Academic Rigor

Stetson is a challenging university, but also a manageable one. Professors expect you to be in class, contribute to discussions, and to complete homework, but they also prepare you for the tests and exams. You will have a combination of individual work and group work, projects, essays, and computer assignments, but professors work hard to make their class engaging.

    Tips for prospective students

Just like any university, visit the campus and see how you feel! Sit in on a class, attend a sporting event, and talk to the current students.

    In three sentences

Stetson University is a great, small university with an impressive reputation. The campus is beautiful and being in DeLand helps you experience things you have never even thought of. The students, professors, and staff are very welcoming and you will never be a number in the classroom.

    Bang for the buck

It's expensive but making the investment can be worth it if you make the right connections for your future.

    What to do for fun

There are always events going on around campus between Greek events, hatter productions, and clubs. Daytona and Orlando are not far away for beach going and shopping.

    Food and Dining

The food is what one would come to expect from a small private school. The commons always has something to eat as they have a salad bar and grill options along with international food, pizza, a main meal, and sandwiches. They also have alternate options such as the coffee shop, Einstein's bagels, and Newton's Grill.

    Dorm Life

The buildings are old but some are charming. Chaudoin is the best for girls, end of story. The apartments are very nice but extremely expensive and far away from the main campus area. All freshman live community bath their first year which leaves something to be desired as the facilities are not that big.

    Academic Rigor

It's not easy and certainly more challenging than a public university. Most students take 16 credits per semesters and classes are almost always 4 credits each

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and submit as much supplemental information as you can. SAT and ACT scores are optional but submitting them gives you the chance of receiving a better scholarship.

    In three sentences

It's a small school with a wide range of academic programs and has a beautiful campus. The cost of attending is to be expected of a private university but they try to make it as affordable as possible. Overall, if you're looking for professors to know who you are and have small classes Stetson is a great option.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is really impressive. There are phone stations set up all around campus in the event of an emergency, and immediately contact Public Safety for you. Public Safety also can always be seen patrolling the campus, and if you feel uncomfortable at any hour of the day or night they are on call to give you a ride!

    What to do for fun

Stetson has a large variety of clubs and teams to choose from to keep you plenty occupied. But there are also lots of events held on campus. There is also a game house that is open all the time and during exam week is called the Stress Free Zone so that students can unwind and take some time to really relax.

    Food and Dining

The food at Stetson is great! There are three choices for big meals: Einstein's Bagels, Newton's Grill, and the main dining hall. There's also a coffee shop on campus that sells sandwiches and pastries there. The main dining hall serves certain foods at certain hours, which makes breakfast hard for later risers like me. But over all, the food quality is good.

    Dorm Life

My dorm was a bit small, but it was homely. And it was nice to have friendly neighbors. I lived in Nemec Hall, the Per Friendly Dorm, so I did not have a room mate. But there are plenty opportunities to have that experience if that's what you want! Chaudoin Hall's dorms are the most coveted for their comfort and size, as they are the biggest dorms on the campus.

    Academic Rigor

I wouldn't say its THE toughest school ever, but it does get progressively difficult as the semester goes on. That's probably the norm with all colleges though, but regardless try to set aside some time to study your materials little by little everyday so you don't end up cramming. As I said before: study groups!

    Tips for prospective students

Its very easy to set up a routine at Stetson, I suggest having one that's easy to stick to day-by-day. And keep in mind that Financial Aid is in the same building as the Admission's Office! The main dining hall serves pizza everyday, so bear that in mind and try not to get swept by that, there's plenty of healthy food so take advantage of that instead! Also, I highly suggest setting up study groups early on for each of your classes.

    In three sentences

I love that the campus is small and easy to remember, so you don't have to rely on others. The classes are also small, not really ever going over 22-25 students, which makes it easier to learn because the professor isn't as divided amongst tons of students. And all the professors always try to make time for the students if they need help.

There are springs in Deland where people can go kayaking, swimming, fishing. It all depends on the person really.

Stetson is known for being a challenging school, so the professors like to hold the students to that. For the most part I feel that the classes are hard but the professors will always help if someone doesn't understand.

    Tips for prospective students

Being involved at Stetson is basically their number one objective. They encourage that every student be involved in at least 3 clubs or organizations. The professors are very knowledgeable and helpful, also if you ever need anything and one professor can not help there will always be another who can. Students and Faculty have very close relationships due to the size of the school which is very convenient.

    In three sentences

Stetson University is defiantly not the best college ever to most students, and surely not myself. However, Stetson is a very diverse and accepting, small quaint university that I believe many students can easily adjust and feel comfortable. I feel it is safe to say that Stetson has potential to make many differences in their community outlook.

The campus tries to provide fun activities for students on the weekends when there are no classes, which include trips to the beach, amusement parks, movie nights, and much more.

Stetson is in a sleepy town and not much happens here. Even so the campus is watched over by the heroes of psafety. They patrol the grounds and watch out for everyone.

    Greek Life

More then half the school is greek. They aren't the typical greeks, with huge parties and always getting into trouble, they are leaders and very involved on campus. All events on campus at least have had the involvement of one greek in its planning.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs on campus, and many events to show off all the clubs available to students. Its so easy to get involved with clubs, sport teams and organizations. All one has to do is look or ask.

Great for these types of students

Its a great school for students that need one on one learning. If you don't want to feel like you are just a number in a huge pile of other numbers this is the school for you. Anyone could find their fit in this school its not that hard to do.

There are ghost towns on campus serval times a year due to the heavy paranormal activity in Elizabeth Hall.

    Bang for the buck

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major some more then others are very hard. Business majors aren't as hard as the sciences or art degrees unless you are in accounting or finance. The teachers will push you to do your best, they learn you and know when you aren't on your top form.

    Tips for prospective students

Get off the meal plan and campus as soon as you can. It will save you a ton of money. Bring a pet to college, many of the dorms are pet friendly and they are a great stress reliever during finals.

Stetson is definitely way too expensive, but it's a private school so it's expected. The education they give is totally worth it; Stetson will hook you up in the career world.

The first week of school, the food is actually pretty good. After that, we have pasta every day. Literally.

    Academic Rigor

If you stay on top of your school work, it's not that bad. Stetson is a liberal arts college so don't come here expecting not to have to write anything.

    What to do for fun

On campus you can go to the Hollis Center or go to a weekly movie held on Friday nights. The Hollis Center has a basketball court, foosball, tv, pool (billiards) and a pool. Off campus you can go to restaruants and the movies. There are many places that you can just hang out in.

This school is considered the Harvard of the South and your GPA will suffer if you are not on top of your studies 100%. You will receive an excellent education from a great majority of the professors.

    Tips for prospective students

I loved going to Stetson with the exception of the politics. The campus is beautiful but your tuition will be exorbitant. This school is considered the Harvard of the South and your GPA will suffer if you are not on top of your studies 100%. If you live on campus don't bring your car. Every year they recruit more and more students while doing away with parking in favor of more green space. Bring a bike, parking SUCKS.

    In three sentences

Stetson is home to some of the best professors in the world, especially in Sage Hall! This school is not set up to be convenient or accommodating to non-traditional students with families, or day jobs. Campus Safety

Most people may dislike their campus safety, but I love Stetsons Public Safety. P-Safe as they are called can be accessed from many glowing terminals on campus, and you can call them at anytime for a ride back to your dorm, or to say cut off a lock, or let you into your building.

    Greek Life

The Greeks on campus are pretty docile, they party now and then, but they commit themselves to brotherhood, and community engagement.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a wide variety of clubs to join, my favorite being pep band. Creating a club is as easy as simply finding an adviser, and some interested members.

Great for these types of students

Students who like quiet peaceful learning environments. Lots of activist groups and causes. If you enjoy a beautiful atmosphere this is the place for you. Skateboarding and Long-boarding is pretty fun, due to all the hills in the area.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Stetson fountain is the center-piece on campus, if it is your birthday, you get dunked. But I am large, so not me =P

    Bang for the buck

I feel like even though the cost is outrageous, I received what I payed for in quality education.

    What to do for fun

To be honest, this semester I have mostly gamed in my room, but I also enjoy attending the concerts, going to the gym(frequently) and I long-board around campus everyday. Everything is in range for everyone.

    Food and Dining

I myself am always happy with what I eat. A few of my friends complain however. I love the cafe, and the Einstein bagel shop, and the Newton grill next to it where they cook fresh ordered meals. The commons has a consistent meal option, with amazing smoothie supplements as meals.

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm room, it feels more like home that my house, the only problem for me, is some other people in the hall. I was placed in the hall furthest away, and that's where some of the rowdy football players. I never get into any conflicts and they mostly keep to themselves, and usually aren't home until very late. I have heard they come home drunk, but I've only seen this once. On this occasion an RA had to come from downstairs, because they threatened ours, but it was resolved.

    Academic Rigor

Music professors are considered more intensive from what I have heard, and that is what I experienced with my all music schedule. The teachers care what you do, and will pull you aside and talk to you if they feel you need help. Every teacher is there to teach you, not to get paid. My clarinet teacher talks to me every lesson about my other classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships early, and make sure to jump on the work-study opportunity. There is too much to do on campus to be bored. It is a small campus, there are frat parties, but they aren't wild and crazy like at big colleges. If you are serious about your career, this is the place for you, if you just want the college experience and want to party, look for a state school. This school is great for making friends, community engagement, and developing yourself and letting your personality free. People don't judge here, if you want to practice Tai-Chi on the green, no one will judge. But this is a small school, and that is not for everyone.

    In three sentences

The Campus is Beautiful, and quiet year-round. Food is usually good-decent. Many events, with free gym/pool, always something to do.

A lot of organizations on campus for everyone if you're into that.

    What to do for fun

Frat Parties, bars, chilling in someones room. It can get boring sometimes, so definitely bring your Xbox or Playstation for the days when there's nothing to do.

    Food and Dining

Horrible food. Luckily there are some REALLY good restaurants nearby, that aren't that pricey if you do not eat their everyday.

    Dorm Life

Depending on your hall it can be really fun, and sometimes it can suck. The facilities suck, not gonna lie, and the rooms are small and there's mold in some corners and in air ducts and stuff, but trust me, you'll never be in your room.

    Academic Rigor

It is challenging, I am not going to lie. If you got straight A's in high school, it is possible to pull straight A's your first year but you have to put in the same amount of effort that you did in high school. Like I said before though, the professors are great people and willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to talk to your professor. They are all looking to make you a better, all-around person and want to help you succeed. Also, be OUTGOING, if you're friendly and not afraid to talk, it makes school a much better place and it makes your experience a lot better. Also, join a fraternity.

    In three sentences

Stetson is a great, underrated school. Everyone is friendly, especially the first few days, and we all have a lot of fun here. Besides the cafeteria located in the Carlton Union Building, Stetson also has a coffee shop that serves Starbucks and the Hatter rack that sells Einstein's Bagels and Newton's Sandwiches and Grill. There is not much variety in the choices they offer, but for the ones they do, the food is great.

    Dorm Life

As a commuter student, it is difficult sometimes to stay involved with on-campus activities. Most of the time, clubs hold meetings and events that are later in the day. If you do not live in one of the dorms, you will find yourself leaving campus late. There are not many options to choose from if you decide to live off campus. Stetson has a strict policy for students who decide they do not want to dorm. You must either be living with an immediate relative, living with your spouse, or you must be over 21 years of age according to their off- campus housing policies.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

..dorms are OK....but could be worse..refurbishing an old hotel for more dorm rooms..should be nice

    Campus Safety

Top-notch! I always see them riding around patrolling the area.

    Greek Life

    Not in a fraternity.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm currently not in a club but they do have movie night and food festivals year round.

Great for these types of students

Smart, striving scholars who love to have fun but can balance that fun with school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I haven't attended there long enough to know the traditions on campus.

    Bang for the buck

I think it is a great investment. A little overpriced but I do think it is worth it in the long-run.

    What to do for fun

I usually play the play station with friends or go downtown. The school also provides certain activities that are fun at times.

    Food and Dining

The food is five star. I love eating in the commons and the hatrack.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is great. I've had two roommates and they were great, no problems at all. There is one problem that I see with dorms. It is a very small problem. They only give you a key to one door that connects to your hall. It's one door that your can not get into. That is usually the door I need to get into.

    Academic Rigor

I love the academics because they do challenge you but are doable. I give it five stars because the professors will help you if they see that there is a problem with your grade. Since the class size is so small, they know you by your name and are willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is not a walk in the park though, it does take studying and understanding the material. The classes challenge your mind and gives your an idea of what your job will consist of.

    In three sentences

Stetson is a well-rounded academic school. It is great for people who enjoy small classes and don not like to get lost in a big university. There is much to do and good people there also.

    Campus Safety

They have emergency things throughout the school and the security guards will take you anywhere if you call them too. Remember also that not everywhere is safe, we can take all the precautions but sometimes life happens. I think Stetson does a good job in having every precaution taken.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a tradition in where when it is a student's birthday, their friends throw him/her into the school fountain.

    Bang for the buck

Stetson is expensive but they give scholarships out and you don't have to pay for printing. Also almost everything is walking distance plus meal plan is required, so you won't have to save money during the year to buy food.. I think that compared to public schools where you have to pay for printing and the campuses are somewhat big, Stetson has a pretty reasonable price for students who really want to go there.

    What to do for fun

Stetson has a lot of activities going on throughout the year. There is something for everyone. When I went to visit, there were like 10 activities that were going to be done that same night.

    Food and Dining

I give it four stars because I have not tasted the food but there were three options of food places within the school and the town surrounding them has many more options to choose from.

    In three sentences

It is a small school but it has everything that a student needs within the school. The Stetson faculty is really nice and want to help out everyone if they can. Also the school has many activities going on.

    Campus Safety

Nothing ever happens on campus in this aspect. Most people call Public Safety to get a ride when its raining or something.

    Greek Life

Our sororities and fraternities are strangely intertwined with the rest of campus. Most of my friends are in sororities, and different ones at that, and there's no kind of rivalry or bad feelings between any of the Greeks and non-greeks.

    Clubs and Activities

I haven't been involved in a ton of the clubs, but they're always putting on various events, so there's always things for everyone to do.

Great for these types of students

It's great for people who love to learn and want to get a great college life experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

You will be thrown in the fountain on your birthday, just a warning.

    Bang for the buck

It's a bit expensive, but they give pretty good scholarships.

    What to do for fun

There seem to be events every day. Literally my friends and I would walk out of our dorm and see all kinds of tents on the green and ask, what's this all about? at least once a week. It's amazing the things campus puts on for such a small school. There's always downtown DeLand, too, which isn't that exciting unless you have an open mind or love antiques and record stores and that type of thing.

    Food and Dining

It's not the best, but we have good coffee. When outside people visit, the food is better. Also, we are completely redoing our food services for the Fall of 2013 so who knows what it will be like

    Dorm Life

Amazing, I met my best friends and the coolest people in my dorm. I have built lasting relationships with so many over the experience, just be ready for a weird time, it's unlike anything you could imagine.

    Academic Rigor

You definitely can't slack off, the academics is not a cake-walk. However, it is very manageable and your professors are always there to help.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure the small campus life is right for you. If it is, it will be the best decision you've ever made.

    In three sentences

Stetson University is a great private school with a cozy community feel. It doesn't always have the amenities of a huge school, but the relationships that you build with professors, staff, and classmates is totally worth it. Plus we're Division 1 and just got a football team and a women's lacrosse team, which I play on, so the community is really excited.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt to be unsafe on campus. our campus is equipped with the blue light safety system as well as Public Safety guards paroling the campus 24/7.

    Greek Life

i am a brother of Alpha Tau Omega, i never thought that i was going to go greek but stetson changed my outlook on it. I could not see me now not a brother because i love each and every one as if they were my actual brothers.

    Clubs and Activities

Stetson is one of the most involved campuses for its size. I am personally involved in several clubs. Kaleidoscope, student ambassadors, and many more.

    Bang for the buck

you are defiantly paying for your education here.

    What to do for fun

Stetson has a ton of things for us to do on campus, Hatter Productions puts different events such as hatter palooza and magic shows for us to attend. Deland also has a great downtown and Daytona beach is only 25 minutes away.

    Food and Dining

I had friends come and visit that attend larger state colleges and they said that what we have for our dining options is more like a home cooked meal. where as theirs is more of fast food options.

    Dorm Life

Loved living in my dorm Carson/Hollis Hall, i could not of asked for a better group of guys to share the floor with. Loved how everyone was so different but we all still got allong.

    Academic Rigor

The quality of education that I obtained over the several months was even better than expected. the professors really care about your grades and want to see you succeed.

    Campus Safety

    Pretty safe.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big part of this school.

    What to do for fun

This is where they're lacking. If you don't like partying then you're probably going to be very bored. The only places that stay open late are bars.

    Food and Dining

I'm not too picky. I like it, but wish the food wasn't so fatty.

    Dorm Life

They're pretty nice. It really depends on which building you live in. I live in Chaudoin and like it.

    Academic Rigor

Maybe it's just me personally and the fact that I've only complete one year, but it isn't too rigorous.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure that you can handle the cost.

    In three sentences

Stetson's pros include involved professors and faculty. However, the cost of attendance is overly priced. This school is not for everybody.
