Of course the number one thing is partying but there are plenty of other ways to have fun. You can join a club or clubs. There's always events going on within clubs even if you don't want to join. Every week and weekend an organization send out an email of events happening campus wide and each building normally has a meeting every week to discuss what's happening on campus and in the building.

On and off campus there is plenty to do. I am amazed by the workshops offered and the personnel they have visit the campus. Also NYC is a short train ride away.

Roth Rogetta is an event on May that students makes boats with only cardboards and duct tapes. It is really fun to enjoy; smaller events happens every day! You will love if you are a party animal.

Stony Brook offers the best facilities for exercise, including great classes of Yoga and Zumba. The campus is constructed for great walks and bike rides which you can now rent bikes rather than buying a personal bike. On the cold days however, the real fun takes place in the dorms with great activities for all students.

There are parties if you know the right people, but there are also lots of great clubs and activities or sports to join in on as well.

Its hard to get around without a car, but there are free buses during the weekend that will take you to Port Jefferson (the substitute college town, well quiet port downtown actually) 5 miles away or Smithhaven Mall 3 miles away. As for me, I find myself working in a research lab during the weekends or taking bike trips. Keep in mind, this is a commuter school, so 50% of the people are gone by Friday night.
