Stony Brook offers a great, quality education for a state school price, however, getting a quality education depends primarily on the student. Many of the science and math based classes are quite large and are often held in huge lecture halls. Due to the large class sizes, many people don’t go to class, and often, especially in 100 level classes, attendance is not mandatory. However, some professors do take attendance and often attendance, depending on one’s professor can be critical to the class.     Stony Brook is a great place to get a very diverse education, but it is easy to feel lost here. Generally the professors are decent, people are friendly, dorms are livable, and classes are bearable (depending on your major). It's a very average school.

    Stony Brook is an incredible place to strive for academic achievement, make new friends, and learn about yourself. The classes are challenging, it's easier to find people who think like you, and the curriculum encourages people to leave their comfort zone. Definitely, a great place to study.

    Stony Brook University is one the best universities in NY. It is at a good distance from the hustle and bustle of the city life, giving you a peaceful environment to stay focused. But it also has an exciting campus life and student body where you can meet students from all different backgrounds and interests.

    Stony Brook provides great classes at an affordable price. The material is challenging and detailed. Tutoring is provided for students who use it to their advantage. A lot of great technology is integrated into the school system so students can access useful resources easily.

    It seems pretty big but once you get comfortable it seems smaller. The faculty and students here are really friendly and nice. Overall, I love this school.

    It a very good school for the money, because compared to many other schools it is generally inexpensive. Science and math classes are extremely difficult, but look good on your transcript if you do well. It is an up and coming university where they are doing a lot of work on the school to improve it visually and academically.

    SBU is famous for its research and science majors. It's located near Brookhaven National Lab. SBU offers a great study abroad program.
