Mission Statement

Sweet Briar College empowers and educates young women to build and reshape their world however their passions lead them.

Sweet Briar prepares women (and at the graduate level, men as well) to be productive, responsible members of a world community. It focuses on personal and professional achievement through a customized educational program that combines the liberal arts, preparation for careers and individual development. The faculty and staff guide students to become active learners, to reason clearly, to speak and write persuasively and to lead with integrity. They do so by creating an educational environment that is both intense and supportive and where learning occurs in many different venues, including the classroom, the community and the world.

For the most part, I do. It is a beautiful campus with very caring people. Nonetheless, it is a bit small and the dining staff is a bit annoying. Once people think something of you, that's it, and many people are nosy, but if you can make a few good friends, its peaceful and very open.

Sweet Briar quickly becomes a second family while you are away from home. The amount of students is relatively small, but even still, you will not know everyone and there are always opportunities to meet new people. The traditions at this college are very strong and provide more of an outlet for you to get to know more people and it instills a sense of pride in your school.

I wasn't entirely sure about going to an women's college since I went to a co-ed public high school, but I love it here. The campus is gorgeous all year round, and most everyone is friendly. The all women's aspect is actually empowering because you are surround by women who are succeeding and leading for four years. We learn to expect ourselves to be able to succeed, and I feel I will be ready to enter the rest of the world when I graduate.

There is always something to do here. Whether you leave to hang out with men in one of the nearby colleges or stay here and enjoy one of the events from the CEO or another club on campus, you're never left alone. Our college is big on the sisterhood that we create as an all women's college and we try to foster a very encouraging and friendly environment. You could go somewhere with SWEBOP or go to a Late Night Vixen event or if you're a Thursday person, head to the boathouse.
