Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want a school that is in a small Texas town and you literally become part of a family, then Tarleton is a GREAT decision. With a student population of about 10,000 you are able to make a lot of new friends, but don't have the worry of getting lost in the mass of students like a larger university would be like.
Tips for prospective students Go to Duck Camp so you can make friends before the school year starts, get involved with on campus activities, and just have fun, but do keep up with your studies and don't procrastinate!
Bang for the buck As one of the least expensive state schools in Texas, you do get a wonderful education and have so many open opportunities on campus, whether its Greek Life, tailgating, campus movie nights, sporting events, and many many more, you will have an enjoyable yet educating experience at this school.
Did enjoy being here I am so glad I decided to attend Tarleton. It literally became a second family and home for me. Tarleton offers so many different opportunities for its students to meet new people and make life long relationships with people. I currently am not attending due to financial reasons, but I am planning on returning in the spring because I do miss my Texan family, and want to return ASAP!
Did learn a lot At Tarleton I learned a lot both academically and about myself as a person. College opens up so many doors to learn about life. The way Tarleton goes about its education and family like feel on campus just benefits its students in so many ways

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are planning on majoring in agriculture, Tarleton is perfect for you. Tarleton specializes in the agricultural studies and being in the middle of a country town, they definitely know what they are talking about. Tarleton also has one of the best barrel racing teams in Texas, so if you're a rodeo kind of person it's great. Even if you're not into the whole rodeo scene, there is a spot for you a Tarleton. I'm an English major and I love my classes and the whole environment at Tarleton. There is a great fine arts system at Tarleton as well, so theatre majors, music majors, and art majors are welcome and at home. Over all, Tarleton is a great school for everyone.
Tips for prospective students If you plan on attending Tarleton and living on campus you are going to be required to purchase a meal plan. You may think you're going to eat three times a day in the dining hall, but trust me, you don't have time to do so. I'm on the 10 meals per week plan and I have never used all of them in one week. It's cheaper to just get the 10 meal plan and some ramen for your dorm room for those days you miss dinner.
Bang for the buck Tarleton's cheap tuition make it one of the best deals for education you'll be able to find. The environment, teachers, school spirit, and community feel makes it one of the best schools to go to and make the cost seem like a steal. I've made so many close friends within my first semester and learned so much in subjects I wasn't expecting to like and I've really enjoyed the whole experience.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus and love the people I've met there. Being with people that are striving for a similar goal to your own really helps you concentrate and pull your grades to where you want them. There is also a lot of organizations and activities on campus that are a lot of fun to partake in.
Am learning a lot There is a wealth of knowledge at Tarleton State University. There is a huge variety of classes ranging from mathematics courses to musical courses to theatre courses. There are honors programs available, which I am a part of. The teachers at Tarleton care about the individual student if that student cares about his or her education. I feel so much more intelligent just being on campus and interacting with others in the honors program.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This university is great for people who love to have fun, but still can get work done and do well academically.
Tips for prospective students When you get here, don't stress out! Find friends, get involved, and everything will go smoothly from there.
Bang for the buck Although it isn't as cheap as a community college, I feel like the combination of the quality of the classes and the fun you have while being here makes the cost well worth it.
Am enjoying being here Tarleton is deep in tradition. From the Purple Poo to the Plowboys, the entire university revolves around the traditions and organizations here. This makes the university fun to be at because it becomes easier to feel included when you get involved and learn the traditions.
Am learning a lot The classes here are extremely in-depth, especially the Honors classes. I feel as though I have learned more in my first semester than I ever did in high school. The classes are challenging, which is something that I enjoy. Also, the teachers care about you. At Tarleton, you aren't just a number. The teachers want you to pass and do everything they can to help you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Its great for everyone as long as you go out and get involved. There are over 150 organizations on campus, so its hard to say that there is nothing for you to do.
Tips for prospective students Tarleton State really is Texas' best kept secret. Getting involved is the best way to meet people. So, go to Duck Camp! Its a big help when you first get to school because you'll at least know some people. Joining groups help you get socialized as well. Whether you want to go Greek, join Freshman Representative Council or Student Programming Association, just do it. At least you can say you tried it out.
Bang for the buck Tarleton is affordable, and makes it feel like you still have some cash left over to have a life at the end of the day.
Am enjoying being here I ABSOLUTELY love this school. There are plenty of ways to get involved, an active campus life is definitely a big deal. Tarleton is all about community, and its one thing you can for sure sense just walking on campus.
Am learning a lot Academically, this school has a lot to offer. Most of my teachers are extremely helpful, and if they aren't, chances are there is an Supplemental Instructor or tutor that would be more than willing to assist you with any questions.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If your major is Agriculture then Tarleton is great for you. If your major is science then Tarleton is great for you. Don't get me wrong other majors are great and accepted too, but Tarleton's science and agriculture programs are great.
Tips for prospective students The places/dorms I recommend to stay in are Legends, Centennial, Texan Village, New Dorm, and traditions. Those places are the best. Traditions is not as great as the others but its A LOT better than Bender and Ferguson. If you stay in Legends or the New Dorm its like a 5 star hotel with 5 star security for your door.
Bang for the buck To attend Tarleton is very, very cheap. You will most likely always have money left over, and the best thing is you are receiving an awesome education!
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here very much, everyone is so welcoming. When I first came to this school, the employees that work in the office (any office) are dedicated to help you get whatever you need. The upperclassmen are very helping as well.
Am learning a lot At Tarleton, the learning experience is like no other. I learned and gained a lot in academics and experience. The environment of Tarleton is very studious and feels like an environment for learning.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Visit every college brochures can make some colleges appear to be perfect when in reality they have A LOT of flaws.
Bang for the buck Tarleton is one of the cheaper universities, but its worth a lot more I don't think you can get a family atmosphere at any other college besides Tarleton.
Am enjoying being here Tarleton State University is a family atmosphere. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. I just came back from an event for freshmen called DUCK CAMP!!!! I had a blast. All the current students at Tarleton really helped me out and just reassured me that if I needed anything that they would be there for me no matter what.
Am learning a lot I haven't started class yet, but i do know that they have smaller classes so you can get more one on one time with your professor. They also have a first year experience program that really helps freshmen make the transition from high school to college.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who's looking into any major can come to Tarleton. Our doors are open. Tarleton is well known for it's agriculture programs and similar to Texas A&M we are more geared toward the sciences. But don't let that discourage you, Tarleton offers just bout everything.
Tips for prospective students The best tip I could give anyone is to apply and come visit. As soon as you step on campus I know you will feel at home, it's just a matter of giving the school a chance. You will automatically be greeted with smiles and any questions you have will be answered thoroughly. You couldn't ask for a better school.
Bang for the buck Tarleton is probably one of the cheapest Universities in Texas and as a member of the Texas A&M family they offer the same courses completely transferable for way less money. If your looking for a college that brings you everything that large university would bring you for way less and a lot smaller, Tarleton is for you!
Am enjoying being here When it comes to Tarleton theres no doubt that you will enjoy yourself. Even aside from the school the town it is in is very enjoyable. It's a nice small home town kind of feeling and you never know what you will get yourself into. Tarleton offers it's students so many opportunities that you are guaranteed to have fun no matter what.
Am learning a lot I definitely learn a lot while at Tarleton, not only about school subjects but on a personal level as well. The atmosphere at this school is very welcoming of every individual as a person but also as members of the Tarleton family. This allows for a more comfortable learning environment and excellent academics.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It's cheaper than most schools in Texas, and still provides a friendly college atmosphere.
Am enjoying being here Being from Stephenville, I absolutely did not want to go to Tarleton. I originally planned on transferring away, however I've found that I truly love the campus and the atmosphere and don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.
Am learning a lot Depending on your major, Tarleton is a great school for learning. The Music program is phenomenal, and the Education program is one of the best.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who enjoy a large town with a small hometown feel will get the same experience in Stephenville. There is a wide variety of everything squeezed together in one town. If you're a true cowboy/cowgirl, Tarleton is a true country town, even having its own Rodeo Club (come ready to know how to two-step). Really, however, Tarleton is for anyone who wants a rich history and an education background to be proud of.
Tips for prospective students Don't just get involved as soon as school starts; there are many opportunities to get involved in school before it starts, like Duck Camp and Texan Orientation. These events will get you prepared for the traditions and history of Tarleton. On a side note, if a current student tells you not to order your books until the second week of school, don't listen to them; order your books in advance. There will be many traditions that you have to know before you get there, too, so be ready.
Bang for the buck Tarleton is one of the cheapest schools to choose from, although they do not offer a wide variety of scholarships. Also, when it comes to buying books, look into renting or buying off campus/online because you might get them a bit cheaper than you would at the bookstore.
Am enjoying being here The campus provides many activities to go to, along with a variety of groups and organizations that bring you closer to the students and faculty. Also, I'm not too far from my classes and don't have to walk so much because everything is so close. Safety is also a number one priority.
Am learning a lot I can't say much for other teachers, but the teachers that I have are very good at what they do and they make the classes very interesting. The classes that I'm in are small and reasonable so that the teacher is able to answer every one's questions.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Tarleton has an amazing diversity proram and there is a place for everyone.
Tips for prospective students if you are interested (which you should be) then go on a Texan Tour. it is much better than the regular tours and you get a better experience. it is led by actual tarleton students who have a huge love for the university. you wont regret it and i DARE you to not immediately feel at hom here.
Bang for the buck Im my opinion, TSU's tuition is very reasonable for the experience you recieve, which is incredible. Not to mention there are a ton of scholarships that Tarleton offers to help you.
Am enjoying being here I've only been here for one semester, but i already call this place home. I love where i live, I love the friends i've made, and most of all, I love tarleton!
Am learning a lot I LOVE the classes. In most classes there is an SI (tutoring) session at least once a week to help you if you choose to go.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is police patrolling at night as well as safety lights all throughout campus, but i dont really ever see a need for them, stephenville is a safe town, but tarleton is even safer of a campus. all the dorms require card key access to the buildings and to the individual rooms.
Greek Life there are a lot of sororities and fraternities on campus, ranging from big groups, to smaller groups.
Clubs and Activities there are so many activities on campus it is really hard not to be a part of one.
Great for these types of students tarleton is great for any type of student looking to succeed.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus we do not walk on the grass, we have numerous traditions homecoming week such as beating the drum, purple pancakes at midnight, and the bonfire.
Bang for the buck tarleton is one of the cheapest four-year universities in texas and they have great teachers.
What to do for fun stephenville is a small town, so for fun there is a lot of things that go on around campus, but there are little things to do around the town if you get involved.
Food and Dining the dining hall is really great. they have a huge selection of food choices and they also have alternative places to eat on capus.
Dorm Life the dorms can get kind of loud and crazy sometimes, but they are dorms filled with freshman students mostly. the on campus apartments are great, but you have to be a returning student to live in these
Academic Rigor there are great classes for every major and the teachers make going to class fun.
Tips for prospective students be involved in as many groups as you can handle with your schedule and do not forget to start studying early. waiting until the last minute is not a good way to start.
In three sentences tarleton is full of traditions. tarleton is a place that is very welcoming. tarleton, to me, is home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Plenty of school cops for how small this university is.
Greek Life more per capita than most other universities .... although I donot participate, i do Know that their are several quality Frats on campus.
Clubs and Activities to many to mention.... might be more effecint to name the thing on campus that dont have a club!
Great for these types of students Agricultural or Engineering
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Purple Poo .... sounds bad but its not what you think... oldest spirit group in texas!
Bang for the buck great professors sell this category.... hard to find better for the money
What to do for fun fair night life.... four local bars and fortworth is an hour away
Food and Dining awsome brand new dinning hall
Dorm Life great lots of things to do... great securtity
Academic Rigor depends on your major of choice.... in the case of Enigineering/Physics, get ready cause its going to be tuff.
Tips for prospective students Dont park where you are not supposed to ..... the parking lot nazies are ruthless. go talk to the finacial aid office as soon as you get on campus, they are by far the most helpful.
In three sentences Tarleton State University is a well rounded 4 year university. It offers an experience that most other Colleges cannot. tarletons most unique feature is the fact that it is in the middle of a small cowboy run town.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities Tarleton has something for everyone! Get involved.
Great for these types of students It's great for people who want to be in a small town and want to see a familiar face in each of his/her classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tarleton is all about tradition. You cannot walk on the grass or the Purple Poo will attack you. The Purple Poo is one of the oldest spirit organizations in the world. There is a cannon and it is said if a virgin walks in front of it it will shoot off. These are 3 of the many traditions at Tarleton.
Bang for the buck Tarleton is one of the cheapest Universities you can attend and they offer great education.
What to do for fun Stephenville is a small town. They have a movie theater and a paintball course. Those are both fun, but you need to make friends and you can make your own fun.
Food and Dining So here is the deal on the food. The dining hall is good for awhile, but all of a sudden you don't want to eat there anymore. You just get tired of it.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a great. The Residential Leaders are pretty great. They will help you with anything you need. The neighbors are fun to have around, too. Some of the dorms have kitchens. Mine does not, but I wish it did. Sometimes, though, you just want time alone and cannot really get that in a dorm.
Academic Rigor The professors at Tarleton want you to succeed. They strongly believe that college is a transition from childhood to adulthood. They expect you to get your stuff done. The view it as carreer developement.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. Get involved. Get involved. I cannot stress this enough. College is a great time to meet new people. Go out and show your school your amazing personality!
In three sentences I absolutely love Tarleton State University! It is the best choice I have made in my life! College life is great!

Categories Comments Food and Dining the dining hall is awful. the only time it is remotely good is if a tour is occurring! they have the same food and the hours on the weekends are horrendous. i can't wait until i can live in an apartment with my own kitchen.
Dorm Life the dorms at school here are either very good or very bad. if you get into legends, traditions, legacy, or centennial, you'll be okay. but other residential halls such as bender or ferguson are disgusting. the dorm life here on campus does make getting involved easy and achievable.
Academic Rigor the academic competition here at tarleton is obvious. there are many different kinds of students with different approaches to school work. the classes are difficult, but definitely not impossible.
Tips for prospective students getting involved here at tsu will bring great rewards. seeming as stephenville is a small town, there is not much to do here. being involved will bring, friends, relationships, and other great opportunities.
In three sentences tarleton state university is a very traditional based school. people are friendly, classes are small, and the professors really care about their students. i absolutely love my school.

What to do for fun go to bostocks, city limits, bowling alley, go karts etc.
Food and Dining the food is not that great only when they have special occasions.
Dorm Life best dorm is hunewell reason i say is because very loving dorm plays games as a dorm in the lobby and if someone needs something someone else doesn't mind sharing it.
Academic Rigor very smart school and willing to help you through!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a police station on campus that is convenient for everyone to reach. There are emergency poles located throughout campus in case of an emergency. There have not been any shootings or incidences that would make anyone feel unsafe.
Greek Life There are many fraternities and sororities you can choose from, some are religious affiliated and all are non prejudice. Anyone is welcome to join.
Clubs and Activities There are over 200 clubs and organizations to choose from. You can also create an organization of your own.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Purple Poo is an unusual tradition that almost all the students love. They attend all the school events and to raise the spirit of Oscar P (the founder's pet duck). No one knows who they are and they will not be revealed until their graduation.
What to do for fun On Tuesday and Thursday nights you can go to this country bar called City Limits to kickback and get away from schoolwork. Often times we will have movie nights on the lawn behind the rec center. Visiting with friends in other dorms is always fun because when you all put your heads together there is always something fun to do.
Food and Dining The dining hall has many choices to choose from such as international, grill, cuisine, deli, and desserts. Some times they will have a chocolate fountain and fruit to go with it. The food is delicious!
Dorm Life Living in a Learning Community very beneficial to the student. You get to live and study with students who are majoring in the same major as you. You will also form many friendships and see your grades rise tremendously.
Academic Rigor Classes are not hard, but challenging. It starts off easy, but picks up the pace from then on. As long as you study and pay attention in class it will be a breeze.
Tips for prospective students Apply early for the scholarship deadline, Dec. 1. Also, choose to be in a Learning Community.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Police are constantly patrolling campus. There is also a 24 hour number you can call. Comes in handy during one of those late nights at the library when you don't want to walk home by yourself.
Greek Life Do it. You won't regret it. There are numerous fraternity and sororities on campus. At the beginning of the year they'll have socials so you can meet all of their actives. You're bound to fall in love with one of the sororities or fraternities.
Clubs and Activities There's a club for everyone. Anything from Nerf Club, to professional. If there isn't one you like you can make one.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Purple pancakes! Get pumped for homecoming!
What to do for fun There's a small movie theater and a bowling alley.
Food and Dining The food is better than most cafeteria food I've had. They always do really cool themed stuff. Sometimes they'll have a chocolate fountain during lunch, cupcake decorating contests, and salad and pasta bars. They have a selection for vegetarians and have a variety of foods.
Dorm Life I live on one of the oldest dorm on campus, but i wouldn't trade it for any other one. I know everyone in my hall and a lot of us are very close. It's always good to live in a dorm because there are people of all majors that can help you if you're struggling in a class.
Academic Rigor Professor are always willing to help, they understand. There is also supplemental instruction (SI) for some classes. They're very helpful. The SI instructors also hold test prep sessions.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. You will hear that from everyone here at TSU. I have met so many new people.
In three sentences My new home!

Categories Comments Campus Safety No crime!
Greek Life Love it!
Clubs and Activities Sigma Chi Fraternity and intermural sports....always something going on.
Great for these types of students Any student with a fear of being on a large campus and being lost in a big ocean! It's perfectly sized.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus tour is great as the tour guide gives you a lot of history about how there are 288 trees on campus and there are 288 zip codes in Texas and how that all ties together.
Bang for the buck I think it's quite a bargain, money-wise, and everyone is nice.
What to do for fun Go to the rec center and shoot hoops. There is a lot of equipment you can rent to go canoeing or camping but that's a little hard for me as I am one-handed. Hang out at the frat house.
Food and Dining Cafeteria food is great but the hours could be better.
Dorm Life Legacy Dorm is newest and best. I don't get too involved with the goings-on at the dorm itself as I am in a fraternity and that keeps me busy outside of the classroom.
Academic Rigor Being in a fraternity, I have to maintain a certain GPA but it's not too difficult. Professors willing to answer questions anytime!
Tips for prospective students Live at Legacy Dorm -- It's the newest and the best!
In three sentences I love the student-to-teacher ratio and the size of the campus. The professors are all willing to help me anyway they can. I am a disabled student.

Clubs and Activities the national society of leadership and success is highly recommended.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the davis hall is an unusual building that was most likely built since the beginning of the university (not sure what year). the building itself is mysterious with broken windows, yet the university still utilizes the building for offices.
Food and Dining the food is good enough to eat and not make you sick.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I'm a current student at the Tarleton State University McLennan Community College (MCC) University Center at Waco, TX. This is a great option for the type of students that are not yet ready to be away from home and want to close to home. Also being able to have the option to live at home really does help out those students that come from low-income families, that perhaps can not afford to move out into the university of their dreams. The Tarleton State University Staff/Faculty here is extremely helpful, and enjoy their career just as if they were on the actual campus.
Academic Rigor Tarleton State University expects their students to finish their degrees, encourages students to receive double majors, and promotes transfer students to complete a certain number of credits to transfer over into Tarleton State University. The Tarleton State University commits everyday to the students in trying to offer the best education, teachings, and learning everyday. They strive to enhance their degree programs availabilities, so they can offer the most education as possible as they can to their students.
Tips for prospective students Students if you are one of those students who wants to learn it all, come with an open mind and your brain ready to learn new things each and everyday. Your instructors are always available to help students out when they might be struggling, so take advantage of the great exceptional help the professors have to offer. From what students learn in the class and from the professors, they will get pretty good insights of what to expect in their field of study.
In three sentences Tarleton State University offers professors that have tons of field experience in their degrees; in which they are able to offer students real life examples of what to expect out in the real world, once they are out in the field. All the classes are exceptionally good and really do make you learn, by giving as you examples of real life events that have occurred, are occurring, or will occur down the road in the future. The professors and the classes are made to make the students think professionally about their career, also how they will expand in their career of choice, and how they can make a difference for the better of the people.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Going dancing at Agave or Bostocks is always fun. The Stephenville City park is awesome and the movies and bowling are more options!
Food and Dining THE FOOD AND DINING IS TERRIBLE. The hours are bad and so is the food.
Dorm Life If you get into Legends, Centennial, or Legacy you are golden. Every other dorm is awful.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is not as competitive as other colleges. Basic freshman classes are relatively easy.
Tips for prospective students Always be friendly! Tarleton is a small campus where most of the people already have groups of friends. Be outgoing and be yourself!
In three sentences I love Tarleton State University. The atmosphere is awesome, the people are nice, and the teachers are great. The only issue is the terrible food in the dining hall.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are always different activities going on on campus. It is very easy to get involved.
Food and Dining I personally don't have a meal plan because I commute, but I have eaten at the dining hall twice. It was ok, not the best but definitely not the worst.
Dorm Life I don't live in a dorm because I commute, but I have seen inside some of the dorms. The more expensive ones are nice, but the more cheap ones don't look the greatest. Could use some improvements in some dorm buildings.
Tips for prospective students Don't freak out and think it's going to be too difficult. There is always someone there to help with any class whether it be the professor or SI leaders. This is a great school.
In three sentences Tarleton is a very friendly environment. This school has great professors. It is also easy to adjust to after high school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police seem friendly when we met one on the campus tour.
Greek Life Definitely want to join one of the sororities. Pearls and squirrels!
Great for these types of students Country folks. People coming from small towns.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Purple Poo is awesome! ;) You'll have to go to Tarleton to hear about this secret organization.
Bang for the buck Compared to most other universities, it is a very good price.
What to do for fun There seems to be plenty of student activities on campus. Also, if you get involved with one of the religious organizations they have church functions, movie nights, and get-togethers weekly.
Food and Dining The options of different types of food available in the dining hall is great. And unless you are some food critic it should taste just fine. Also plenty of fast food places within walking distance, and a chick fil a right on campus.
Dorm Life The cheapest hall for girls, Gough, is the one I signed up for. And I love it. The community bathrooms are bright and cleaned twice a day. The rooms are a little small, but not to the point of being an inconvenience. Two walk in closets are available. The community kitchen in smaller than I would prefer, but is nice enough.
Academic Rigor The courses seem average in difficulty. Which means if you are willing to work hard then you will succeed.
In three sentences A pretty campus in a small town. Everything you need within walking distance, and there are several cute shops. The locals and fellow students seem very friendly.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Tarleton is cheaper than a lot of other universities, but the facilities are better than many, the food is great, and the education is comparable.
What to do for fun Stephenville has a small town appeal. Consequently, there's not a lot to do. There are a few bars, a couple parks, lots of fast food, a movie theater, and a few stores to visit, but mostly students just create their own fun.
Food and Dining The food is great, but the hours aren't the best.
Dorm Life The newer dorms are very nice, and the communities within all the dorms allow students to meet and adjust to college life.
Academic Rigor Depending on your courses, you may take ridiculously easy classes, but you may be faced with very demanding classes depending on the number of hours you take and your major. A lot of people have trouble with chemistry, physics, anatomy, and physiology courses.
Tips for prospective students Wait to buy/rent the text for biology courses (you may not need them), but not the lab manuals (you will need them). Try to take physics somewhere else if it isn't one of your stronger areas. Don't spring for the unlimited meal plan. The food is great, but you probably won't feel like going to the dining hall that often.
In three sentences Tarleton is a relatively affordable, growing university. Parking is a pain, and there is a lot of construction going on. Classes are small, which promotes learning and allows students to connect with their teachers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Fresh Duck Camp is awesome and worth attending.
What to do for fun There is a wide range of activities on campus. Swimming, tennis, baseball, football, track. For a small college town there is enough shopping locally to keep everyone happy and the Metroplex of Dallas and Ft. Worth is only 60 miles away.
Food and Dining I would recommend the dinning hall. The food is fresh daily, cost is low for the meals and for what you get. Well worth eating on campus.
Dorm Life I have not lived on campus since I live 12 miles from the school. But friends seem to love it. TSU has built a lot of new dorm areas.
Academic Rigor Challenging and yet well worth the effort.
Tips for prospective students Do matter what your degree plan is: music, ag, nursing, business or numberous other majors - TSU offers you the best deal for your buck!
In three sentences TSU is part of Texas A&M. I attend TSU and am going to be a junior. My major is Music; I play french horn. Categories Comments Campus Safety There are purple lights around campus if you need to call the police, such as needing a ride at night back to your residence. However, Tarleton has had a bit of a problem with its Clery Report.
Greek Life Greek life is also very big at Tarleton. There are quite a few different sororities and fraternities, holding events and doing good for the community. Unfortunately, sororities aren't allowed to have houses.
Clubs and Activities There are a variety of clubs and activities, but they are usually very specific. Sometimes you have to do a little research to find something you'll enjoy.
Great for these types of students Agriculture is big at Tarleton, and we have a brand new nursing building. Anyone who has extreme school spirit and drive.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tarleton has many unusual homecoming traditions, such as a purple pancake feast at midnight, a huge bonfire, and of course the secret organization known as the purple poo. There are quite a few unusual spots on campus, like the Ultra and president's house, which you would be acquainted with on a Texan Tour
Bang for the buck Tarleton has education and college experience comparable to any university for far less tuition expense.
What to do for fun Tarleton always has something going on, whether it be football tailgates, theatre plays, or Greek organized events. Stephenville as a city has a few bars, bowling, etc but can be pretty uneventful
Food and Dining The dining hall has a variety of choices food wise, and the building itself is nice and always clean. If you have an apartment style residence hall, you will have your own kitchen to use.
Dorm Life There are new residence halls being built and added constantly, due to increased student population. Many of them have room to study, socialize, etc. There are apartment styles as well.
Academic Rigor Different majors have different levels of difficulty, but most professors ask the highest of their students and/or teach in a way that make you want to learn. Take a course load that is right tor you.
Tips for prospective students Don't judge Stephenville by its looks; the Tarleton campus will have things to offer you. Definitely take a campus tour. Research thoroughly because the campus is constantly growing.
In three sentences Tarleton will feel like your new home right away. The campus is small but vibrant. There is a chance for anyone to put their skills or knowledge to work.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are always patroling and are very helpful. Their really cool though, they understand your college students and what you like to do, they handle things very well. There are 911 posts all around campus also.
Greek Life Their are 5 fraternities on campus and 7 soroties (I think), everyone that I know that is in one loves it. I am not in one however.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for almost everything, and if theirs not, you can make one!!! SWAT (school wide activities team) puts on great events all through the year. SWAT hosted the largest game of hide and seek in the world, were in the guiness book of wold records!
Great for these types of students Students looking for an agriculture degree, an education degree, or a nursing degree, those programs knock it out of the park!! Science degrees are fantastic as well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus For homecoming week Tarleton has the largest handmade bonfire in Texas. The purple poo are Tarleton students who run around in crazy costumes to conceal their identities and are very funny.
Bang for the buck Tarleton is a super economical school, great bang for your buck!!
What to do for fun Theirs always things going on around campus to do. Theirs 2 great music venues/bars that are really great. The movie theater is super cheap, $3 for students, and if your into the outdoors this is heaven.
Food and Dining The dining hall is pretty good, some things like burgers get old but they always have other cool things like steak and stir fry to switch it up. The starbucks, chikfile, mexican resturant, and the american restruant are great.
Dorm Life In a dorm you really get to connect with the other people in your hall. I would definitely recommend it for at least a year.
Academic Rigor Science classes can be very hard but history classes are a breeze.
Tips for prospective students Apply for financial aid early!! Go to duck camp, its amazing and you wont regret it.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities You are certain to find something of your liking at TSU whether it's sports, academics, Greek life, study abroad or community experiences you will find it here!
Food and Dining There is a lot to choose from inside the university campus itself. They have an international cuisine section as well as the typical American specials. In addition, you can find a variety of food to choose from outside the university and at a close distance.
Dorm Life New apartments have been created and for the people in the honors program you can get a dorm closer to campus!
Academic Rigor The teachers make you think and help you in anyway possible.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour early in the year or a year before if possible. It is also beneficial to sign up for orientation early as well because you get better opportunities as far as registering for classes goes.
In three sentences The university has a beautiful campus, in addition to being the perfect size not too big but not too small. The teachers and staff are friendly all-around and very helpful. The orientation experience gave me a great idea as to what to expect regarding the classes, extracurricular activities and more important the future academic experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel completley safe on my campus, there are always campus police driving around at night, there are card ID swipes to every door in every dorm. Each person can only get into their own individual dorm. Each door has a lock on it and if something is broken it gets fixed very quickly. Tarleton is an extremley friendly family environment.
Greek Life Greek life here is growing bigger and bigger!!! All the sororities and fraternities have prideful harmless competition with each other for fun but at the end of the day we recognize that we are all greek and all going towards the same purpose. Also, there is absolutley no hazing at this school! Greek life is where you meet your best friends and bridesmaids you will keep in touch with for the rest of your life.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of sororities and fraternities to get involved with, religious organizations, clubs everyone is welcome to participate in, there is a club for literally everything, and if there isn't one yet then feel free to create it!! Here everyone is involved in at least something because why would you not want to be? There is something for every interest.
Great for these types of students EVERY TYPE!! I was shy at first and Tarleton made me come out of my shell. I'm also from the city and I love how its just small enough to make me comfortable but big enough where I am not bored. If you like the country, there are plenty of people to share your interests. We excel in sports and everyone loves to go to the games as well as play intramurals themselves. We have a great band and arts program, new expanding buildings, and the nursing program is top of the line.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Around campus we talk about Oscar P who was the original John Tarleton's pet duck who followed him everywhere. Also we have the secret society called the Purple Poo which dress up and go around spreading campus pride and no one knows who they are until they unmask at graduation.
Bang for the buck HOLY COW this school is worth SO much more than they charge!!!!! It is such an affordable school, a new home, new friends, wonderful opportunities to excel and join tons of fun and thriving organizations and get an awesome education.
What to do for fun Make friends, join a sorority or fraternity, the school puts on lots of events that are great opportunities to get out and have fun. Plus a lot of students enjoy going dancing at the bar on Thursday nights.
Food and Dining The dining hall has awesome food, buffet style, tons of choices and they switch them up every day so you never get bored of it. They also have a big salad bar and healthy options if you are on a diet.
Dorm Life Clean, no bugs, friendly RL's, friendly neighbors! I had a blast getting to know everyone and it literally became my home away from home. I would go back and live in my dorm a million times over.
Academic Rigor The nursing program has an excellent reputation and is extremely challenging. I feel VERY prepared for the real world!
Tips for prospective students Join as many organizations as you can! Don't take everything too seriously, but remember your grades are what is most important. Take advantage of every opportunity.
In three sentences I absolutley love Tarleton State!!! It has been an amazing experience with friendly and fun loving people, a nice small town atmosphere, and challenging curriculum. I feel successful and uplifted by my peers and teachers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Police are very good about doing their rounds on campus and keeping the peace. If something does happen that could affect other students, emails are immediately sent out to forewarn everyone. The CP are friendly and promt which is nice to know when living away from home.
Greek Life Big fraternities are Lambda Chi, Delta Chi, Kappa Delta Rho and Sigma Chi. Main sororities include Phi Mu, Alpha Gamma Delta and Delta Zetas. Lesser know Greek organizations are Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Alpha Phi Omega and Phi Mu Alpha. Christian sororities and fraternities exist as well so there are options for whatever you want to be involved in.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs at Tarleton for everything you can imagine and if there isn't one you can actually make one! Sports clubs exist, honorary societies, religios clubs, service/social clubs and even professional organizations that are aimed toward a students success in the professional world. These are only the highlights of what Tarleton has to offer!
Great for these types of students Whatever your major is, I guarantee there is a club for it. If one likes to organize fun events for campus SWAT is ideal and for the over achievers, SGA exists to elect class presidents and such. If you don't want to actually be in an organization, but like to stay active, the rec hall is perfect and at your service from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. most nights.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The unofficial mascot is Oscar P. which is a duck that was said to have traveled with John Tarleton (the founder of this University). Another unofficial thing is the Purple Poo. It's really hard to explain, but basically they show up at events covered head to toe in Tarleton gear and cheer on everyone. No one knows their identity until the graduating Poo unveil at their graduation. It's pretty special and I've never heard of anything like it at any other college:
Bang for the buck Tarleton is unlike most schools because it's a university dripping with tradition. Things like the silver bugle hunt done once a year, the snake dance before best the drum, midnight madness starting basketball season and homecoming week is just a blast. The drum, as mentioned before is part of this week an has been for a very long time! It's these activities that being students closer and get people to bleed purple!!
What to do for fun There are church groups that get together Thursday evenings which are a lot of fun to attend and meet Texans that don't cross your path on any other day. Residential Leaders also arrange events throughout the semester that are fun and interactive. Multitudes of organizations exist like SWAT (student wide activities team), clubs for different majors and fraternities as well as sororities. Duck camp is held for mainly freshman before fall starts and this is an excellent way to get a he's start on meeting people you will be going to school with.
Food and Dining Tarleton State University's dining services stand out in a good way! With our meal plans comes dining dollars which can by food for your dorm and the dining hall also has to go meals that are convenient when there's not enough time between classes to sit down and enjoy a hot meal. The dining dollars can also be used in the library at the Suave Café for hot chocolate, coffee or just a little something to snack on while you're studying.
Dorm Life As a freshman it was rough adjusting to dorm life, but with the help of Residential Leaders it became second nature today and very quickly after that my home away from home. I wouldn't trade anything to live off campus right now and miss out getting to know my fellow Texans!
Academic Rigor Tarleton State University has challenged the way I think and pushed me to be an all around better student. College is hard, but with the help of programs such as SI and tutoring, you are able to be successful as a college student.
Tips for prospective students Get out and get to know people! Of course we are all here for the education, but the relationships you make with others will last a lifetime and thoroughly worth it!
In three sentences Tarleton State University has the perfect feeling of a university, but in a small enough town that student to professor ratio is really convenient as well as comforting knowing your professor really can be there for you moreso than if Tarleton were as big as Texas Tech.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Agriculture, sporty types, to-be teachers and nurses. They have some really great programs here for them. The arts program is not to bad it self. It is still growing though.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The snake dace after the yell contest is very interesting. You grab the person in front of you and you end up in a long line of running people. you run in this line all over campus. It is CRAZY!
Bang for the buck As I said before it is cheep but you get WAY more then what you pay for. :) It is a great place to learn.
What to do for fun the football games are a hoot! Homecoming is the best time of the year! There is plays and concerts. Also a fun improv group on campus! There is always something going on!
Food and Dining What can I say. It is a cafeteria! Haha. The food isn't half bad. I have enjoyed it many times but there are other students that don't like it as much. It gets mixed reviews.
Dorm Life It is getting better every year. They keep adding wonderful new dorms each year.
Academic Rigor Honestly it is like an A&M education for a WalMart price. It is very affordable but don't let that fool you. The education is top notch and very hard if you don't buckle down and get to work. As long as you stay focused on your studies you should be fine.
Tips for prospective students Don't get overwhelmed. There is plenty of help available to you. The campus is small so you can walk anywhere in 5 minutes.
In three sentences They are very much into keeping school spirit alive. They want all in coming freshmen to feel welcome and know what is going on so you do not feel lost. They are very proud of their football team.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those interested in agricultural studies.
What to do for fun Hanging out with friends. The town has a population of less then 20,000 so not much to do for those under 21.
Food and Dining I've never liked cafeteria food so I'm having a hard time finding anything good to eat at the dining hall. The salad bar is ok and there is always cereal. The rest is awful. Even the pizza is bad. This is going to be a long year eating hot pockets and ramen in the room.
Dorm Life I'm currently in Traditions Hall which was suppose to be two people in a room but with the huge influx of Freshmen we are 3 to a room. And you still are given only one small refrigerator and one small microwave. At least we have a private bathroom which is a shower only, and you do get a closet, 3-drawer dresser, desk and chair for each student. Plus the price stayed to same, you would think you could get a discount due to occupancy increase.
Tips for prospective students Beginning in Fall 2012, new Tarleton Texans emerged on campus a week before classes began (Aug. 19-26). Students moved into their residence halls on Aug. 19 and experienced a week full of activities designed to help them meet their academic and social objectives. The week also guided students through the resources available to adjust to Tarleton's environment and culture. Please take advantage of this week. It was very helpful.
In three sentences You are more than a face in the crowd â?? you are part of the Tarleton family. Very friendly faculty and staff. The University is mainly an agricultural college but it has a large nursing program also.

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the biggest reasons I chose Tarleton was the amount of safety they offer. We have Code Purple which is a mass text message or email sent out to every Tarleton registered student that notifies them of any emergency occurring on campus. We also have police officers on call 24/7 to pick you up and take you to your dorm/car if you are worried about walking from the building by yourself.
Greek Life Tarleton has a huge variety of sororities and fraternities that are always welcoming in new students to experiences what they have to offer.
Clubs and Activities I believe Tarleton has over 225 organizations and if you can't find one that fits your interests you just need to find two or three other friends and you can start your own club, but odds are you will find one that already fits your personality perfectly.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tarleton has a lot of traditions that I know no other college can offer. We have the Purple Poo and the Plowboys. I would love to explain them to you but they are a lot more fun to research on your own and it gives you the full effect of what they are and what they do here at Tarleton.
What to do for fun There are always free meals and activities going on around campus. Every now and then they provide street dances by the dining hall/student center for all tarleton students to attend for free. Also, the local dance hall has nights where they allow students in for free with their ID handy. There is also the movie theater down the road that is only $3 per person for a movie, which is extremely cheap.
Food and Dining The Dining Hall has plenty of options for everyone, whether you be a very picky eater or you being the eater that eats just about everything. The Dining Hall also has a very basic meal plan that is available for those that can't afford to eat a lot and then they have the maximum meal plan that gives you unlimited swipes with your card and you can eat any time the Dining Hall is open.
Dorm Life I personally love dorm life because we do not have to worry about parking every day before class which seems to be a hectic problem around here for people off campus. I also love dorm life because you make one payment at the beginning of the semester and do not have to stress about that anymore until the next semester. My favorite part about dorm life is I pay for the meal plan in my tuition at the beginning of the semester and anytime I get hungry, I just walk to the dining hall and eat my little heart out.
Academic Rigor Academics at Tarleton are very high priority but getting involved is also a very high priority because we are all one big family. I suggest this campus if you are coming from a small school because it is so well rounded that there is always a place for you to fit in and feel at home. I came from a 1A high school and I absolutely love Tarleton and the size of everything here.
Tips for prospective students A great tip for Tarleton is to come in with a great attitude towards organizations and student life and it will make everything a lot more fun.
In three sentences Tarleton State University is a exciting and tradition based university where everyone is as excited about you getting your degree as you are. Every professor I have ever had was very easy to approach and very loving/caring about your grades and your future. Tarleton is a small campus and is very easy to adjust to, so it makes your experience even more enjoyable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have our own personal police station in the middle of campus and also have blue buttons that will call the station located all around campus.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs on campus and the school completely supports the production of new clubs.
Great for these types of students This school is great for all kinds of students. We have a large diversity of people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are so many traditions on campus that it would take days to say all of them but the one tradition that always sticks in everyones head is that we do not walk on the grass. Legend says that our founder, John Tarleton, when he died his body was burried on campus and no one knows where so in respect we do not walk on the grass.
Bang for the buck The town supports the school realy well by giving us discounts on a lot of things.. like the movie theater has $3 movies on wednesdays just for college students. The school is really reasonable also.
What to do for fun There are suprisingly a lot of things to do for fun in such a small town. You can go dancing or watch a movie. The best thing is that everything is really affordable!
Food and Dining Eating in the cafeteria is like eating at a five star restraunt. The food is amazing. I don't think it could get much better.
Dorm Life Most of the dorms are really nice. Especially legends and legacy. They are really clean.
Academic Rigor They have wonderful teachers and they really care about you as a person.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for housing early to get the best rooms and the best roomates.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had any problems around campus. There have been very issues with that since I've been here.
Greek Life Very big at Tarleton, many who become in a sorority or fraternity don't regret it.
Clubs and Activities So many to choose from! Great profession clubs, there's even a nerf club. Cancer awareness, Student Government, special interest.
Great for these types of students If you love tradition, Tarleton is for you!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus purple pancakes during homecoming week!!!
Bang for the buck You get what you pay for. It is one of the cheapest schools in Texas and there are times where I can see why. Dorms aren't the prettiest. Lab equipment isn't the newest.
What to do for fun Not much in the city. There are plenty of clubs that would suit one's personality. It's a bit boring at times.
Food and Dining At first it's amazing, then it just gets worse. There are some good days though, but don't count on it to be like your mom's.
Dorm Life Not the best. Many people go home on the weekends because there's never really anything going on during the weekends.
Academic Rigor There are some hard teachers and there are some not so hard teachers, it depends on your major.
Tips for prospective students Keep yourself busy here, there isn't much to do on the weekends. Keep yourself busy in general if you want to have a decent college life.
In three sentences It's a small university that offers a lot of opportunities. There are a variety of majors to choose from. I love their job search engine for current and Tarleton Alumni.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is a very secure place, the Tarleton Police are very serious at their work and to walk across the campus at night is no big deal. I always feel at home and everybody is so friendly so you don't worry much.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Homecoming week is the best tradition ever!!! There is so many things to do each day of the week such as the bugle hunt, purple pancakes, and the campfire, its really an awesome thing to experience.
What to do for fun There is tons of sports to play and many organizations are just hobby groups, and if you want to start your own organization, its possible.
Food and Dining The food is not the best but the variety is pretty big for such a small school. I have been at Tarleton for a couple months now and I still have yet to try all the food.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Tarleton is awesome, its like a big family and everybody is so nice. The people are helpful and the residential leaders help with anything and everything!
Academic Rigor Its a little harder than I expected but nothing impossible. Figure out a good study program that fits you in the first week and your grades will be fine.
Tips for prospective students Join organizations, be apart of the campus, you will meet so many people and make so many friends.
In three sentences I absolutely love the campus attitude, i would give Tarleton three tens' without a doubt. The people are so nice, everybody says hello and the simple things like opening the door for a stranger is seen everyday. I could not of wished for a better school to of picked.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Party, its in the middle of nowhere, you can go to school, the bar, or a party; those are youre only options.
Food and Dining AWFUL! meal plans are a rip off!Do not get anything over a ten meal plan, which is the minimum you can purchase, you will never use them all! the most i use in a week is 6, and its even rare that i use that many. The food is soooo gross, the only decent foods they serve are sandwitches and the salad bar.
Dorm Life I lived in Ferguson hall dorms my freshman year, it was AWFUL, the dorms are literally 10 feet by 13 feet and built for single occupancy, however due to the record breaking number of incoming freshman that year, they doubled the rooms. So we were stuck sharing that tiny room with a roommate, its wasnt terribly awful but it wasnt very fun.......However, the community in Ferguson and Bender is unlike any other on campus, i would reccomend staying in these dorms because you will definitely make life long friends.
Academic Rigor Most of the Professors are wonderful, there are a few duds in the math and science departments; but for the most part its good.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus before accepting your enrollment, consider the location, and through out orientation and campus tours you will be told a million times to get involved...blahblahblah even if you dont get involved on campus youll have a great college experience, so dont be discouraged to attend this school because youre not a super outgoing person.
In three sentences Tarleton is in the middle of no where, there is literally nothing to do aside from eating, going to the movies, or most students personal favorites going to one of many bars or house parties. I love the school but the location is a huge issue for me.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt unsafe on campus. During your orientation, the student body has you sign up to receive texts that have great deals and all sorts of announcements. If there are any threats, you would be notified that way. Other than that, there are campus police that are always on the lookout.
Greek Life I am not Greek, so I do not know much about it, but I have heard nothing but great things from those of my friends who are Greek.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs and activites going on every night and there is such a diversity in these groups that there is something for everybody. As long as you're involved, it's pretty much impossible to get bored.
Great for these types of students Students who are laid back and enjoy a small town, love dancing and are always willing to accept others and make new friends are perfect for Tarleton!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My favorite traditions is the PurplePoo. They are our spirit people. They dress up in crazy costumes that completely hide who they are, and they are all students. There are 10 girls and 10 guys. They hide their identities until they walk across the stage at graduation and hand the Dean a purple pig. While they are in school, they cause chaos and bring smiles and laughter to all of the students, raising the spirit and love that the students have for Tarleton State University!
Bang for the buck There isn't a lot of stuff that is cheaper on campus, but nothing is overly priced.
What to do for fun On campus there are a lot of events always going on. There are concerts, movies in the park and theater productions. Along with that, there are also a bunch of clubs that you can join depending on what you are interested in. Off campus, most people go to Bostocks or City Limits to two-step, play pool and/or see concerts.,
Food and Dining The food it great. There is a diverse selection ranging from salads to pizza, different home cooked meals and stir fry. You have your healthy and non healthy options and as long as your in the dining hall, you can get as much as you want before you leave. You'll never go hungry!
Dorm Life Dorm life is fabulous! I live in Traditions, and I love it. Living in the dorms makes it that much easier to meet new people and branch out. They are also very convenient. Tarleton campus is so small that you could probably get anywhere you need in about 10 minutes while living on campus in the dorms.
Academic Rigor There is an absolutely no cheating policy, but as long as you pay attention in class you shouldn't even need to cheat. Some teachers are more on top of things than others so I would definitely ask around about the different teachers before registering for classes. Most of the time they say no late work is accepted but sometimes exceptions are made.
Tips for prospective students Don't worry about being overloaded with school work. If you pay attention in class and don't procrastinate college will be that much easier. That's the most important thing, but getting involved comes in as a close second. If all you do is school school school, then you most likely won't enjoy your time. The good news is that we have over a hundred clubs that you can choose to get involved in.
In three sentences Tarleton is a diverse school. This ranges from majors to choose from, the types of people who attend Tarleton and the different types of clubs that we have. Tarleton is my home away from home and I could not think of any place I'd rather go to school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Because Stephenville is a small country town there is not a whole lot of violence. There is awesome campus police who are always patrolling and there to help if need be. If living in the dorms there is always someone at the desk to help, residential leaders in the dorms to assist with anything and to get into the dorms students much swipe their campus id to be admitted, making it harder for an intruder in get inside.
Greek Life There are both sororities and fraternities at Tarleton. There are some major ones and there are some smaller ones depending on your preference. There are also some based on religion and majors. Overall Greek life is a huge part of Tarleton because they help with a lot of its events and traditions and give students away to become involved and meet new people.
Clubs and Activities There are many different clubs and activities at Tarleton. There are many sororities and fraternities if the Greek life is what your interested. If not there are club and intramural sports, and also clubs for every major and interest from photography to our own quidditch team.
Great for these types of students Tarleton is a great school for nursing because of the wonderful nursing program and of course Tarleton is known for their part in the Agricultural system. They are known for their rodeo team, agricultural events and studies.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Purple Poo is what Tarleton is most famous for. They are a secret organization of students who have been chosen to keep the spirit of Tarleton alive. They dress in ridiculous outfits that cover all of their bodies and are not revealed until they graduate. They attend almost all of the Tarleton events and are hilarious to be around! They are also allowed to tackle someone if they happen to walk on Tarleton's grass!
Bang for the buck Compared to other schools Tarleton is defiantly cheaper.
What to do for fun There are so many activities to join on campus from sports to the greek life. The gym is close and Tarleton is always putting on events to keeo its students entertained. Stephenville also has bowling, a skating rink, golf courses, mini golf, and a movie theater cole by.
Food and Dining The ding hall is very good. Very many options to chose from when eating and there is always music, activities, or other events to participate in as well.
Dorm Life I loved living in the dorms! Met so many friends and my boyfriend who i've been dating for the past year. It also helped to make study groups and was nice being so close to everything on campus.
Academic Rigor Teachers are very helpful and the class sizes are small so you don't feel lost in a huge campus.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus, apply for a lot of scholarships and talk to current students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have plenty of officers here, as well as a lot of southern gentlemen who are more than happy to help should anything go wrong. There are also call boxes placed around campus for emergency use.
Greek Life The fraternities and sororities do not have houses, so if you're wanting to go Greek, I would strongly suggest going elsewhere so that your meetings aren't in the math building Tuesdays at 7PM.
Clubs and Activities The clubs are a little over-rated in my opinion. In particular, the fraternities and sororities do not have houses, so if you're wanting to go Greek, I would strongly suggest going elsewhere so that your meetings aren't in the math building Tuesdays at 7PM. Other clubs are alright, but the intramurals are always a blast!
Great for these types of students Everybody! We have a wide range of majors, many ethnicities, and so forth. While the town is small, there's always something to offer for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Steal a Poo Sign! If you become a Tarleton Texan, this will make much more sense once you meet a purple poo for the first time!
Bang for the buck It's a very affordable school, although the dorms can get pricey with the meal plans if you're not careful.
What to do for fun I came here after I was 21, so I go to the bar and two step. If you don't know how, there are PLENTY here of both genders that would love to teach you. For those under 21, there's dance places, a park, movies, a bowling alley, etc.
Food and Dining The dining hall has pretty darn good food for a college. There's a mongolian grill there where your food is cooked to order, there's several styles of food in other lines, then with Chick-fil-a and a sub shop you really have a lot of dining opportunities.
Dorm Life Personally I hated the dorms. I didn't mind the facilities or the other residents; rather, I minded the way the institution treats you as a resident. Aside from getting into your personal life (sexuality, religion, how much money you have/came from, etc), they routinely move students out of their rooms and into worse rooms over breaks in order to make room for other students. This is why I left the dorms-- I felt that residents should be treated better and not bothered about their personal lives nearly as much.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major the courses can be very rigorous. As an engineering major I spend at LEAST 40 hours a week outside of class to keep up my grades; however, when I did CIS I found myself studying 1-3 hours a week and making fantastic grades. If it's engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, math, or similar fields, you'll work very hard here but you'll absolutely know your stuff.
Tips for prospective students Be in the professors' offices or meet with them after class at least weekly to make sure they have a strong association between your face and your name-- once they see you care about your grade and are willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, they really work with you here since the classes are so small. Also, you'll need a vehicle. Stephenville may be a small town, but it's over a pretty decent sized area. having a car will help you tremendously. Lastly, while parking tickets aren't too expensive, they are VERY thorough in their checks of lots, so just don't risk it and park in your designated spots-- the difference in walking time in most instances is less than 30 seconds anyway.
In three sentences Tarleton is a great place to do your undergraduate degree, especially if you are a traditional student. Our campus is very close-knit, and the classes are pretty small, which really helps to keep your GPA up. My favorite part is that since the teachers all get to know you personally, they're willing to work with you on things to help ensure that you don't fall behind, are understanding the material, etc-- as long as you show them every day that you care!

What to do for fun There are bars here in Stephenville that are fun or any house party around the area. There are sorority's and fraternity's to join as well as other clubs on campus.
Food and Dining The food is delicious and in the dining hall there are multiple places to choose from to eat.
Dorm Life There are many on-campus dorms to choose from. They are all livable but if you want something nicer than average you will want to live in legacy or legends.
Academic Rigor The academics are much tougher here than any other college, but the professors will work with you if you go to them and show them you need help.
Tips for prospective students Tarleton has great on-campus living. Make sure you put school before all the partying, it will catch up to you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are patrolling constantly throughout the day and the check all buildings and around the grounds every night. There are call boxes all over campus where anyone can call for a police escort from building to building or to their car.
Greek Life The Greeks are all over campus. They sell cookies and candies throughout the year, as well as give out free scantrons and pencils. They touch every charity organization they can get to and are super welcoming to outsiders. For those who are in a Greek organization, manage your time well.
Clubs and Activities There are a few clubs placed sparingly throughout town, all with good reputations. There is also a bowling alley and quite a few ranches where you can catch a few riding lessons.
Great for these types of students Tarleton is Great for any type of student. There are a lot of activities for the outgoing types, but a lot of more intimate events for those who prefer to avoid crowds. TSU is very accommodating.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tarleton is the school for Traditions. Homecoming week is full of every event imaginable. There is a midnight breakfast featuring spirited, purple pancakes. My personal favorite is the campus' secrete organization, the Purple Poo. A group of 10 males and 10 females dressed from head to toe in mostly purple clothing and dawning an odd mask. Using funny voices to further disguise themselfves they are really a joy to talk to!
Bang for the buck Currently the cheapest public university in the state of Texas.
What to do for fun Stephenville is sort of small and boring. There are a few late night clubs or bars if that's your scene, but there is always something good happening on campus. Musicals, Concerts, Dances, Sports, ect.
Food and Dining Lots of sit down, homey restaurants. Perhaps too many Mexican restaurants. Plenty of fastfood joints. Overall, a lot of good options for whatever mood you may be in. There is also a free (normal rates apply of course) text messaging service that will send you near daily coupons!
Dorm Life There are plenty of dorm options at really affordable prices and they are secure. The only bother is if you do not choose your own roommate and get placed with a conflicting personality. There are also great apartments in the area.
Academic Rigor Tarleton classes can be rigorous depending on what major you have and what your interests are. There are a lot of opportunities to get extra work done for a class, but you are not required to put in any extra effort outside of general assignments and exams. Honor's classes require much more time than other classes.
Tips for prospective students Find your mentoring Professor and get involved with research. Never be afraid to talk to a Professor about any concerns, especially when you disagree with them.
In three sentences Tarleton State makes you feel like you are a part of the family. Professors are very approachable and helpful. Course content is actually useful in real life situations.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I would say this is one of the safest campuses I've visited. The police are always willing to walk students after dark, and there are emergency call boxes throughout campus.
Food and Dining The dining hall is roomy and full of delicious food with lots of options. With your Texan card you pay at the door and are able to eat as much as you want. There are also plenty of restaurants off campus.
Dorm Life Each dorm is full of wonderful people, and makes you feel at home like you're all one big family.
Academic Rigor Each member of Tarleton is focused on every student being successful towards their degree. Many tutoring and study sessions are made available so that students help eachother.
Tips for prospective students I definitely advise all future students to attend Texan Tour, you get the full layout of the campus as well as learn about the traditions of Tarleton.
