Am learning a lot
I learn a lot of things here. This college is a great place to be. I love the experience!
Am enjoying being here
I enjoy being here because it is a great learning environment that also know how to have fun. Everyone is full of school spirit!
Bang for the buck
For instate student, this college is very inexpensive! It might be a little costly for out of state students but its still affordable and completely worth it.
Tips for prospective students
Be sure to take the ACT or SAT seriously because it the better your score, the better you'll be. Make sure you save money because college is expensive all the way around. No matter where you go! You still need some extra money in your pocket for hard times!

Will learn a lot
I believe that I will receive an excellent education and gain very valuable learning knowledge at TSU.
Will enjoy being here
I am slightly older than the average student at TSU, but I have never let that keep me from my goal of achieving ahigh education..
Bang for the buck
Oh indeed, I think that well spent money always can be found in gaining a good education because that money is never lost.
Tips for prospective students
Always know what you want to do before making a commmitment to any school, whether it is to go to school to learn, to interact with other peers or to just get away from home, but know for sure what you want beforehand.
Great for these types of students
A multi-diverse cultural environment campus, with a seemingly serious commitment to gain their degrees, but financially slow.

TSU is an great school, full of educational opportunities, networking, and fun. You will become apart of the family. It is vital to stay on top of your work and paperwork at Tennessee State University.
Tips for prospective students
To make the best of your experience, apply early, keep a copy of all paper work, network with administration and join clubs and organizations.
Academic Rigor
The classes at TSU can be challenging, therefore it is important that you make professional relationships with your professor. Although the classes are hard, there are many resources to help you succeed.
Dorm Life
The dorm rooms are not the best at TSU. However, they plan to build a new dorm by the year 2014. Hale, Rudolph and the on campus apartments are the best living spots.
Food and Dining
There is one main campus lunchroom and they have 5-6 different food stations ranging from salads, pizza, home cooked meals, stir fry, hot dogs, etc. There is also a Chick fil A, Pizza Hut, sandwich shop, Starbucks, and chicken place.
What to do for fun
There are so many organizations at TSU that provide activities for students to participate in on and off campus. Nashville is also a great city full of shopping, attractions and fun.
Bang for the buck
Network with upper classmen to buy your books. The bookstore is very pricey.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
For freshman there is a candle light ceremony to welcome you to the campus. You dress in all white and have a chance to meet all of your new classmates.
Great for these types of students
Great for students who enjoy a challenge, want to join a fun organization, and love being around African Americans.
Clubs and Activities
There are many clubs and activities from the NPHC, to community service clubs, city clubs, major clubs, etc. You will find something to fit your personality.
Greek Life
TSU currently has all Divine 9 Greeks in addition to Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Alpha Phi Omega, Gamma Sigma Sigma, and other Greek Honor Societies.
Campus Safety
Campus overall is safe, there are police who are on campus on bikes, and mopeds during most of the day. However the campus is located in a very urban neighborhood where crime is high. It is best to always stay with a buddy.

Tennessee State University is a campus that is filled with opportunity and chances to change your life. The atmosphere is a family oriented, and a welcoming vibe for new students. The staff care about you as if you were their own.
Tips for prospective students
Get your financial aid done ahead of time, those lines are ridiculous! Join lots of clubs, and become familiar with the campus and peers. Student government knows everything, so go to the meetings they're open.
Academic Rigor
The wide-span of majors on campus are ridiculous, there should be no reason as to why you can't find something to suit you. My major is computer science and teachers are very hands on. All class sizes are a reasonable size of 30-50 students at max and give you one on one attention that may be required.
Dorm Life
Dorm life could be a little better, which is why we are currently under construction, and so far renovations that have been made look wonderful.
Food and Dining
The food is pretty amazing, especially fried fish Fridays and wing Wednesdays, and college students dream!
What to do for fun
There are TONS of activities on campus everyday to keep you occupied outside of class. We have game rooms, TV rooms, and sometimes forums, guest speakers, and events are held. The most recent we held a concert on campus open to only our students.
Bang for the buck
You can't put a price on happiness, and I am an out of state student. my tuition is 30,000 a year and although it is a pain and struggle sometimes I am happy at my HBCU and love my experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
We don't have any unusual traditions, we keep it pretty classical.
Great for these types of students
Tennessee State University is great for students who are trying to find themselves from an academic and personal growth standpoint.
Clubs and Activities
Tennessee State University has over 200 clubs and organizations to choose from, there should be no reason for laziness. GET ACTIVE !
Greek Life
Tennessee State University also has many greeks to choose from including the Divine 9.
Campus Safety
No campus is ever completely safe, but we have gotten a lot better with student safety by hiring guardian angels to walk women to dorms after sunset, and we also hired more security throughout campus.

Tennessee State University is an Ok school. Its very big but it's not what I expected it to be. The campus offer a lot of help for tutoring if you need it but financial aid is extremely slow
Tips for prospective students
My tip for future students is to do everything in a timely fashion. Don't wait til the last minute like I did.
Academic Rigor
Classes are easy and they're aren't many people in class rooms either. The Max number of students in a classroom is about 30.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is dorm life I guess. It's most definitely something that you will have to adjust too.
Food and Dining
There could be more selection when it comes down to food. I was thinking that since this was a HBC that the food would be good; its not. Thank God for pizza hut and chic-fil-a.
What to do for fun
Fun things to do on campus:
Walk around
Chill in the student center or the sub
For dudes it would be to play basketball.
I usually just chill with friends.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Unusual traditions on this campus is dressing up. Everyday is like a fashion show. That's a little unusual to me.

Tennessee state university also known as the land of golden sunshine in my opinion has a warm family feel environment. The student are close, teachers also have close relationships with the students. Since the classroom sizes are so small your able to get to know your fellow classmates & teachers better. I love my HBCU!
Tips for prospective students
The tips I would give to future students is to stay focused on your studies & you'll be fine. TSU offers tutoring sessions & some teachers even meet up with you in the mornings before class or even after class to help. Take advantage of every opportunity!
Academic Rigor
Only you will be able to determine the academic rigor. The academics are what you make it. If you choose to participate in class & do your homework , study for tests, etc. then you will find that the academics are excellent . The first step is finding a teacher that will work beat for you., you will be able to do this by looking up each professor on rate my professor.com .
Dorm Life
I love the dorm life! It's the first step to getting the full college experience. There are rules that you as a student will have to respect but if your fine with the rules then dorm life will be great. Each dormitory has a study area that is nice & quit . But if you prefer the library that is great also.
Food and Dining
Food & dinning isn't always great. It's like cafeteria food . But when your hungry & on a budget , those free meals don't sound to bad. Some days there will be selections that meet your liking but other days they will not.
What to do for fun
TSU always has events ! Everyday there is something going on . Weather it's hide & go seek on campus amongst the students or weather it's a party off campus . Or a fashion show or seminar on campus. Talents shows, etc. the list goes on & on. You'll never be bored as long as your social.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Every year TSU has an annual homecoming week. This is where all the students & even alumni come out & celebrate the whole week together . There is an activity planned everyday from morning to night . & a usual location would be the student center & court yard . Those are the two spots that all student go to chill , relax & Socialize at any time of the day.
Great for these types of students
TSU is for anyone . There's no Discrimination. We're all a big family regardless.
Clubs and Activities
Clubs & activities are great if you participate! I would encourage all students to get involved with something! It's how you meet friends & get more comfortable being on campus. Knowing that your apart of a great organization makes you feel welcomed.
Greek Life
Greek life is fascinating . Whenever the Greek cone out & step in the courtyard , the whole student body is there to watch. This is when everyone gets HYPE! Cheering & screaming for the ones we know showing off their talent & even laughing amounts each other at the jokes that the geek chant out.
Campus Safety
Campus safety is a must & I feel like TSU enforcing safety . We have these text message alerts that sends to our phones that alerts us about any crime that happens on campus. But everyone knows not to wonder off around campus at night.

Tennessee State University is truly a school for everyone. My experiences so far have been amazing and I haven't regretted a single one of them. If you're interested in a beautiful school with great and involved teachers, friendly students and faculty, and plenty of school spirit; TSU is the school for you. GO BIG BLUE!
Tips for prospective students
For future students, I have three bits of advice for you. First and foremost is to relax; being away from home for months at a time is definitely an eye opener but you'll be fine. Second, never stress; be it about homework, friends, parties or any activities because it will all happen naturally. Lastly, time management is key. Not having time to do something is no excuse; using a few seconds, minutes or an hour or two out of your day won't stop the world.
Academic Rigor
Honestly, Tennessee State is not a hard school to get into, but it'll make or break you. The teachers are involved, helpful and share their experiences but do not waste time in class. Collegiate assignments and curriculum is what is expected and will be given.
Dorm Life
The dorms are nothing to brag about; what you may have heard about them being gross or run down isn't true but if you really want something great, aim for Hale Hall. The only trouble you could have is yourself and if you abide by the simple rules there won't be any problems. Curfew is simple and the security keep things in order.
Food and Dining
One thing about the cafeteria is to expect average food. It is not unappetizing but there are times when you aren't in the mood for the usual. The on campus restaurants are delicious and worth it but expect long lines.
What to do for fun
No matter what you're into, Tennessee State has something for everyone. Parties and activities on campus happen all the time so missing out is far from likely unless you choose not to attend. There's also something fun to do or that will keep you busy so the choice is yours!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Freshmen week isn't an unusual tradition but believe me when I tell you you need to PARTICIPATE! It's the fastest way to make friends and have new experiences! Also, there is an old and creepy closed dorm on campus. Rumors and stories about it circulate all the time! I wouldn't know if any of it is true but its hilariously creepy.
Greek Life
The Greeks...will surprise you. Whether or not you join is no pressure at all but expect to see them chanting, stepping, and dancing! They show pride and represent their chapter and all of them put on a memorable show! They love their brothers and sisters, and are always friendly and helpful.
Campus Safety
The security is very serious about protecting their students. They patrol regularly at all hours and ask for identification to make sure no one suspicious or who isn't a student won't cause trouble.
