    Campus Safety

Campus is really safe. There are very few incidents on campus. The school has a few safety features for students. There is Code Maroon, which you can set up on your phone, and this will send you any sudden crime or weather updates. On campus, there are emergency phone areas where if you are in trouble, you can call a university police officer to the area you are at. The university police are on campus all the time. If you are on campus late at night studying or walking to your dorm, your ID card has a number on the back where you can call a corps member to escort you to either your car or your dorm room. If you are in need of a ride, there is a system called Car Pool. Their number is also on your ID card, and they are able to come and pick you up, free of charge and drive you where you need to go. This is especially handy if you happen to be at Northgate and may need a ride home for whatever reason.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is noticeable, but it is not a big deal on campus. They will usually recruit at the beginning of each semester and there's a nice variety to choose from. Housing can be expensive, but if you are interested in going Greek, it's a great opportunity and another good way to meet people.

    Clubs and Activities

There are thousands of clubs at this school. If you are an incoming freshmen, there are plenty of organizations geared toward them. But any hobby or activity you are interested in, there is more than likely a club for it. There is even a Quiddich team on campus, so you will find something to get into. It's also a great way to meet people, so I'd encourage any incoming student to look into an organization. there is an event held at the beginning of every semester called Open House, where the majority of the organizations will be in one place, passing out ads and telling information about their clubs. One tip I would say, is to do at the most, 2 clubs. I say this mainly from experience. You will be excited when you find out just how many clubs are out there, but if you sign up for too many, you'll get overwhelmed.

Great for these types of students

A&M is great if you are conservative, Christian, and are big into traditions. Many of the people that come to this school are from small towns so some views can be a bit narrow. It is not very diverse, but it is trying to get better.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A&M has a lot of traditions. Students will go around saying Howdy to each other, and there are different calls each year does. The school is also well known for being a military school and the corps is a big part of the university. During football games, there is something called Yell Leaders, and they lead a group of male leaders that shout different calls to the audience and the audience will yell the call back. Other traditions include Muster and Silver Taps which are tributes toward fellow Aggies that have passed away, whooping, Big Event, Ring Dance, Midnight Yell, and Maroon Out. If you are a freshman or a transfer student, you can attend Fish Camp, Howdy Camp, or T-Camp to learn about all the different traditions. If you don't get a chance to do camp, there are students that are eager to teach you all the different yells and traditions at the school.

    What to do for fun

If you are into the bar scene, there are bars and restaurants on Northgate and the weekend usually starts on Thursdays. Many of the bars are also Country/Western themed. If you are a big fan of football, the football games are fun and worth going to in the fall, while in the spring, there are baseball and basketball games that are going on, and those tend to be more affordable than football games because they are not as popular. There will be theater show performances that happen throughout the school year on campus, as well as concerts. Some students will also go into Bryan over the weekends, as they'll have events like First Friday every month and there are some restaurants and bars there as well.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is not that great, though recently there have been more food options with the opening of the Student Memorial Center. Some of the food can be a bit overpriced, but depending on your meal plan, you have a lot of dining dollars and some you can roll over into the following semester. Besides campus, many students will also eat on Northgate, which is across the street from the main campus.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in the dorm, but from what I've heard from past roommates, they aren't too bad and it is a great way to meet people. Dorms on the south side of campus tend to be more quiet.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are challenging. Some majors are more vigorous than others, especially Engineering, Architecture and Visualization.

    Tips for prospective students

Go visit the school during the fall or spring semesters so that you can have a better sense of what it is like to be on campus. This will also give you a chance to peek inside a classroom and talk to students that are currently attending.

    In three sentences

Texas A&M is a great school with a friendly atmosphere. It has a lot of school traditions that make it stand out from other schools in Texas. Come here and you will be a part of the Aggie family!

This is a beautiful campus with the most friendly people. Everyone is happy to help and most people greet you with a smile and a Howdy. My overall first impression is that this is an excellent well maintained college with extremely nice people.

College Station is full of great restaurants and I've been told that the cafeteria food on campus is actually pretty good.

    Dorm Life

I've definitely heard mixed reviews about the dorms.
