Great for these types of students

This school is best for students coming from smaller towns with smaller high schools (or anyone who prefers smaller classes) because the classes are larger, but not too overwhelming compared to other schools like Texas A&M - College Station or the University of Texas. The largest class at TAMU-CC is 250 students, whereas at one of those other universities the largest classes are up to 500 or 600 people. The nursing program is very strong, so anyone interested in nursing or medicine should apply, as well as anyone who wants to try and transfer to Texas A&M - College Station.

    Tips for prospective students

Build a good relationship with the guidance counselors there, because they are very helpful. The general student population is very kind and helpful, so don't be intimidated by the fact that they are college students. They were once in your shoes, so most people will always be willing to be helpful. It's probably best to live on campus your first year to make sure you meet more people, and it is also a lot easier to get to class on time when you have a five minute walk compared to a ten minute drive, and the ten minutes extra trying to find a rare parking spot. Try and meet as many new people and groups to find your place, but remember at the same time that while college is an experience, you're there to receive your degree and get the best grades possible.

    Bang for the buck

When measuring the price of the school versus the quality of the education, this school in my opinion is one of the bargains out of any public four year colleges in Texas. To take 15 hours, which is generally what the average student takes, is about $3,000-$3,300 per semester including the price of books. The quality of education is a lot stronger then people anticipate going to a smaller commuter or feeder school, and it is definitely a bargain. The only semi-complaint would be the price of housing on campus, which is inflated about $75-$100 higher per month then the normal apartment or dorm room. Students should probably live on campus for the first year to network and meet people, and then move to off campus apartments or lease a house in the neighborhood near campus to be more affordable in the future.

    Am enjoying being here

Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi is a smaller community then many other universities, which can be good or bad depending on the type of person you are. I personally enjoy the larger crowds and communities and meeting as many people as possible, which you can certainly do here, just not to the extent that you would at a larger college. There are plenty of opportunities to meet new people, and chances to meet them such as luncheons and gatherings, but they always to seem to be at inconvenient times. I personally have developed a smaller group of friends, all of whom are in the same major and have the same general class schedule and curriculum as I do. As far as the school itself, the campus is one of the most beautiful in the countries hands down. There are colorful tropical flowers all over the campus, it is sunny just about every day, and from just about any class room you can look out and see water on all sides (because the school is on an island). The city itself is nice, but other then the beach, a few clubs, and Corpus Christi Hooks baseball games, there aren't many typical college restaurants or entertainment.

    Am learning a lot

Being a commuter school, I figured the classes would be very boring and simple. It turns out that for the most part, they were anything from that. Almost every teacher I have had has no problem slowing down during a class and making sure everyone understands the information being taught, and every teacher has designated office or tutoring hours to make sure that each student has the opportunity to learn a lot. I am a Math Major, so I am learning a lot each day in upper level classes, however even in basic core classes that every student has to take I found myself learning plenty of new information. Classes at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi are generally smaller then a lot of universities. In my major specific classes there are anywhere from ten to thirty students. My core classes have anywhere from 100-250 students, however each professor has many teacher assistants and graders, so there is always someone to contact in order to help learn material incase you are struggling.

Great for these types of students

Anyone looking into an Education degree [my major]- At TAMUCC they work to get you into the classrooms and student teaching asap. Most of the Junior and Senior Year are observing and Student teaching at the Early Childhood Development Center on campus. This is basically a lottery school that has Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, Kinder and 1st through 6th grades. They even offer work-study jobs there [I am doing that as well and it is definitely amazing.] Nursing students- I hear we have a very good nursing program here, with the new building just about ready to open and everything. Anyone that loves the beach- the view of the bay is just beautiful. I love studying in the library and being able to look out and see the water. There is a place for just about anyone here. It is really easy to get involved and the people are really nice. I highly suggest it.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus. Learn about the different clubs you can join. Check out the program they offer for your major. I know this is an excellent place to get an Education degree and a Nursing degree. [Our brand new nursing building is opening sometimes in 2010 I think! And we have a college of business building on the way.] But visit once, visit twice. Look around the town and get to know it. Make sure you want to be here and don't settle on just any college.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive, lets face it. But at TAMUCC they help you find the right scholarships and financial aid. There are many people, from the financial aid and scholarship office to the different college's offices, that are more than ready to help you get money for school. TAMUCC is also not as expensive as some colleges. It is just about the same as most other public schools.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love the campus. Its located on its own little island and even has a very small beach. The real beaches are also a short drive away and the weather, though sometimes random, is usually very nice. I have met so many friends and I am planning on joining a sorority next semester. The sororities and fraternities at TAMUCC are much different than other schools. We don't have special housing, but the greeks are like a family. Also, with a strict no-hazing policy, they are very safe. I have only heard good things about them. I attended the freshman camp called Aloha Days and it was pretty fun. I learned a lot about the school and met some really good friends. The campus is rather small. I can walk form one side to the other in less than 15 minutes for sure. There is also a really nice walking and biking trail around the island and plenty to do.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at TAMUCC really know what they are talking about. I have just completed my first semester here and the learning opportunities are everywhere. Even in the basic classes, the teachers still work hard to help you with everything you need and there are many tutoring times and places. The professors are always ready to answer questions through emails, phone calls, and office hours. I went to a smaller high school, where the teachers were all about preparing for college and trying to help and I see many similarities from high school into college. The classes can be more challenging at different points and I have had some struggles, but for the most part this college just wants to help you do the best you can and get you where you want to be. TAMUCC has a program called First-Year Learning Communities. They are an excellent place to meet people to study with and learn how to get the most out of your freshman year. I met my best friend in these classes and we have learned so much, studying together and working on projects.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for dedicated students who want a good education as well as students that want to experience the college life. There is great interaction between students and professors, which is great for those determined students, but there are also many student groups and sports teams for the student looking to have fun.

    Tips for prospective students

It is easy for college students to get caught up in partying which is only natural, but I would have to say to also stay focused on what you want from college and how well you would like to do. If you get to caught up in college life you might find yourself not doing as well as you anticipated.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other four year universities, this college is inexpensive and easier to prepare for. Bigger universities such as A&M College Station are much more expensive and the teacher to student ratio is much larger which is also a downside. I think A&M Corpus Christi is a great bang for your buck!

    Am enjoying being here

I must admit this was not my first choice college, but it was the only college in which I applied that ended up having the major I chose. I do enjoy the classes and the interaction between student and professor, but Corpus does not hold much entertainment for students. There are sports, concerts, clubs, as well as malls, but no other sources that are cheaper for the struggling college students.

    Am learning a lot

I am a biomedical sciences major, so most of the curriculum I am taking consists of science courses. These classes are challenging and keep you working, but the education you receive is well worth the effort. The professors are kind and are willing to listen to any problems you are having as well as help you through these problems. At bigger universities it is harder to have one on one time with the professors, which could lead to struggling through the class.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for people who are laid back and love the beach! There are not a whole lot of crazy places to walk to like in Austin but there are beautiful sites to see in down town Corpus. The students here are all really nice. The campus puts on a lot of activities and there is always something going on which I absolutely love.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to go to college, go here! It is such an amazing place because they are very grade focused and seriously help you in every way possible to get you the grade you need. It's also a really good idea to become involved in different clubs and organizations because it is a great way to make friends and network. Don't be afraid to talk to people in your class, it's good to know everyone in there incase you miss or something comes up. Exercise when you can, it seriously helps your mind stay focused! College is something everyone needs to experience, it's life-changing.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of tuition here is very reasonable. My parents are very glad I chose to come here because it was in state and they are so helpful with helping find loans and other payment options. TAMUCC is affordable for a lot of people and it is totally worth every penny! The major cost for me is living on campus. My friends are paying a lot less to live off campus which is probably the route I should have taken. The university center offers a variety of food for a pretty good price. There is a chick-fil-a and fresh made sushi and other types of food for around 4 to 5 dollars a plate depending on what you get!

    Am enjoying being here

I did not know what to expect coming down here and now that I am here, I don't want to leave! I absolutely love all the different things they have to offer here. Since August I have become a part of a sorority and other organizations as well and they are all so beneficial to my personal skills. I love being able to study in the library while gazing at the beach simultaneously. It is a very relaxed environment here and the people are amazing. It is not a huge campus like UT or anything, but it is big enough to where I see new faces everyday. It is nice being here on the beach! We have our own little beach for the students which is really nice in the warm weather. As for the colder days however, there is not a whole lot to do.

    Am learning a lot

There are so many different course options here at TAMUCC. The school is incredible and the classes are so absorbing! The teachers here are so helpful. They are very willing to help all the students pass whether it is a class of 20 students or a class of 200. Here, you can tell the teachers love what they do and actually ENJOY teaching! I have learned so much from not only the teachers but the students as well. There are always study sessions going on and everyone is willing to help you.

    Anyone will enjoy this campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Just come prepared. It's much more different from high school but overall its pretty good school.

    Bang for the buck

Its a bit expensive. Go to class and you'll get your money's worth.

    Am enjoying being here

One of the things I love about this campus is the scenery. Palm trees are everywhere and the landscaping is nice.

    Am learning a lot

There are many good professors here. Core Curriculum classes are usually the ones with the most students. If you like to make friends there are plenty of opportunities

Great for these types of students

Overall, TAMUCC is great for everyone. If you love interaction with all types of new people, a well trained staff, low tuition rates, and more, then this university is for you.

    Tips for prospective students

There are several things I would recommend to a new student or someone who is planning on attending TAMUCC. 1. Always accept your awards through your S.A.I.L account. It may appear as though you've been awarded your tuition, but make sure that you hit the accept button or the awards will disappear after two weeks, and it is very hard to get them back. (If you were under the Islander Guarantee, you will probably have to take out loans at this point.) Just make sure you accept your awards! 2. I would recommend buying your textbooks from an online source. Do some research and figure out where you will get them at the cheapest price. The campus book store is wonderful for souveniers/ college gear, but the price of the textbooks will not be very discounted. I would recommend getting USED textbooks because they are always cheaper. 3. Live on campus for your freshman year, or while you are adjusting to the college life or even just the campus. The rent is a little high, but you get free internet, phone, cable TV, and all other bills are paid. Living off campus can become more expensive if you have to pay bills! The Camden Miramar housing is wonderful and a very short distance from your classes.

    Bang for the buck

As previously mentioned, the professors are wonderful, and at the rate you will pay for tuition, you are definitely getting a high quality education at a low cost. If you are unsure about financial aid, have no worries, the Student Services Center/Financial Aid Office will help you in finding the best way for paying for your tuition.

    Am enjoying being here

Texas A&M Corpus Christi is a wonderful college. The campus is beautiful! I absolutely fell in love with the campus when I first visited. The university is full of loads of fun activities. Another wonderful thing is the cultural diversity. There are many different people from different cultures and walks of life. You can learn alot simply by interacting with other students.

    Am learning a lot

The campus is relatively small. There are only 10,000 students! The student to teacher ratio is very low, so you are able to lots of one-on-one time with the professors. Don't let freshman year discourage you, the classes are just a little larger that year than others due to a high volume of freshman taking basic courses! The professors are highly prestigious, meaning that they know the subjects they are teaching very well, and can basically answer any questions you have.

Great for these types of students

Really good for students that like to relax and have a good time while still being getting a good education.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out your professors online before you pick them. Living on campus is a really good way to meet people and it's very continent but it is really expensive so if money is problem for you, I suggest looking for apartments around the area. And on that note, know that Islander village is a big party area so be careful if that's not what you are interested in. If you get the chance, go the the freshman camp that they have. You meet a lot of new people and have lots of fun! You get close to the counselors and they are other student's at the school so you might even have a class with them.

    Bang for the buck

This is one of the cheapest schools that I looked into. On campus housing is pretty expensive though. Tuition includes includes a lot including sporting events and a really nice and new gym.

    Am enjoying being here

It's amazing living by the beach, even if your not always going. Just the view of it can be very relaxing. The school has lots of really beautiful places to hang out like the gazebos on the running track around the bay also a good place to study. The people are really chill and relaxed. The city has a lot of fun things to do, anything from art museums to dancing clubs. The school doesn't have to much school spirit which is one thing that I would like more of. Eventually we will be getting a football team which I think will help the spirit problem greatly!

    Am learning a lot

The school has a lot of really good professors along with some that are just okay, but that is the same for every other school. All of the professors have office hours that you can talk to them and many have Student Instructors that are always more than ready to help you out and give you tips. Most of these SI leaders have sessions that they give where the students say what they need help on and they will go it and give you tips for upcoming exams. There are plenty of places to go to get help like tutoring, writing essays, and anything else you can think of. The school is very good at getting you help if you need the help!

    Campus Safety

there are officers on duty 24hrs a day so there is always someone there to help if needed.

    Clubs and Activities

there are many clubs and activities to get involved in there is always some type of event going on around campus.

Great for these types of students

texas a&m corpus christi is a great place for every type of student. expecialy the fun and out going students. students who are serious about their studies, and students who like a close comunity atmosphere.

    Bang for the buck

The price of tuition is resonable. There are a lot of experinces you get at TAMUCC that you can not get any where else. The only thing that I do not agree with is th eon campus housing they are way over priced and there arnt very many other options.

    What to do for fun

there is always the beach, bowling and there are a few dance halls. there are also so historic sites to visit and the aquarium is always fun. We are also getting a Schlitterban.

    Food and Dining

they do not have a cafeteria they just have food vendors and the prices are really high, that's one of the only down side to the campus. There are not many food choices and its almost all fast food and pricey.

    Dorm Life

dorm life is a good experience it's very covenant and it is pretty quite. the facilities are really nice and the RA's are very helpful. the only down side is that Camden's prices are a little high and they are sometimes hard to reach.

    Academic Rigor

Acadimics are very important here at Texas A&M Corpus Christ. Its very competive and gradeas are taken sirioiusly.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to TAMUCC with an open mind and be ready to get involved for the ultimate college experience. dont let the beach distract you, focus on school first then play latter. Dont be afraid to talk to your professor they are more than willing to help you, just take the initiative and go talk to them.

    In three sentences

texas a&m university corpus christi is a great campus. the senery is beautiful, campus life is always busy you will never find yourself bored, and there are so may oppertunities for growth as a student. the profesors are really good at being there for their students and there are plenty of resorces if any help is needed in a corse.

    Campus Safety

tamucc has great security. i feel safe walking around campus a night because i always see a police car driving by. there is also a gate that closes after 11pm so you need your student id to get in the campus. and since we are located on an island, our neighbor is water so you never see random people walking by who aren't students.

    What to do for fun

corpus christi is a pretty calm city, not very active. sometimes i go to clubs around here or to the movies. but i usually go to the beach and just chill with friends.

    Food and Dining

the food on campus is mostly fast food and it's good but it can get pricey. but if you live in the apartments you have your own kitchen so you can make you're own food and if you live in a dorm there is a community kitchen in every floor. so it's up to you if you want to cook or pay for fast food.

    Dorm Life

let's face it, no dorm life is perfect. here at tamucc you can choose to either stay in a dorm or an apartment. the price is a little expensive but there are other options. there are many other apartments close to campus who have better deals but i like living on campus because i can get up a few minutes before class and just walk to class instead of driving and looking for a parking space.

    Academic Rigor

so far i have had amazing professors. they each have their own style of teaching but they're all great. sometimes you will have professors who are hard but there are many tutoring sessions that help you.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are looking for a party school than tamucc is not for you. this university and the city is very calm so if you are used to activity then this school is not for you. but if you want a school where you can easily concentrate on your studies than tamucc is a perfect choice.

    In three sentences

tamucc is a good university for people who are looking for a small school. the location is beautiful and the city is very small and relaxing. there are many resources such as tutoring centers to help you with classes and the professors are great.

Great for these types of students

Great for all types of students. There's literally something here for everyone! Only on a Smaller Campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Develop good study habits before coming into college will make life a whole lot easier, but if you don't have good study skills, then the people as the CASA will help you learn new skills. Also, don't forget to have fun! there are plenty of things to be involved in around campus!

    Bang for the buck

Like I mentioned earlier, TAMU-CC has one of the highest retention rates. They don't want to see you fail, and as such, offer a wide variety of tutoring and counseling services to help you do better. If I was going to a bigger campus or university I'm willing to bet my very little money that it wouldn't be anything like what we have here. Next semester I'm registerred to take 18 credit hours, and all of my tuition and fees only cost about the $3200 range, when on any bigger campus it would be twice that fo sure. Not only is it cheaper, it's also better because each professor really wants to see you succeed and do your best.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is rich with lush tropical foliage imported from all over the world. And being right on the beach is one of the most relaxing things I've ever known with all the stresses of school. The people are nice, the students are diverse, and there's always an opportunity to do something fun!

    Am learning a lot

I have never had so many opportunities to learn so much! The Professors are very open to discussion during office hours, and more than willing to help you if you need it, in almost every class there is also a supplemental instructor that holds smaller discussion classes to help clear up any problems, and there is a whole building dedicated to tutoring (The CASA, Center for Academic Student Achievement). If you don't feel you're learning it quite right, there's always somebody to help you. You don't even have to ask.

The tuition and fees aren't bad at all. The real cost comes in your housing bill. Housing on campus isn't cheap at all but hoping it will be worth it when saving on gas just walking to class.

    Will enjoy being here

Lovely environment with the water surrounding all sides, even being the bays. Doesn't feel over crowded at all you could almost forget that your surrounded by a big city. Plus everyone is so friendly on campus very easy to meet new people.

    Will learn a lot

I have heard a lot of really great things about all the teachers and all the great student programs around campus to help when needed.

Great for these types of students

I love the art studios here and most teachers keep them clean and comfortable since they are small we get more chances to talk to eachother and get fast help when needed. Most other majors I talk to aloso enjoy their buildings and professors. They have a great n funny staff and they care about you so if you are looking for people who care it would be here.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have dreams then you can accomplish them anywhere and it doesn't matter what school you go to just as long as you take up any opportunities that you can and achieve your dreams. The fact that this school isn't huge means more teacher time and its a tighter community for all and it makes it less scary. just remember not to do something or go somewhere just because everyone else is; follow your instinct.

    Bang for the buck

This is a university so it is pricey but it is not as bad as some other schools. Printing went down to .10 cents a sheet and they are doing a new thing with $5 worth of free printing so I can't complain. It really is a good deal to come here and enjoy the scenery by the bay not many schools are on their own little island so it is worth the costs especially for the education and exciting events.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the comfort atmosphere of my hometown and the campus is beautiful and a good size for the number of students we have. I travel to other campuses but I still do not want to change universities because its so homelike here and there are people who genuinely care about your education; teachers may even ask you to not text during their class because its rude and it really is rude to interrupt like that so I'm glad for that and it helps to focus without others distracting you from the class.

    Am learning a lot

I would definitely not be where I am now without the help from these professors. Being an art student, there were so many techniques that i have learned from just one year of being here. I was born here and never wanted to leave but most of my friends went off to other states but I believe you can get a Harvard education ANYWHERE!!! All it takes is dedication.

    Tips for prospective students

one of the most important tips a prospective student should know is having a great resume for any university or job you apply to. the more resume's you have by others, the more your image will positively impact you.

    Bang for the buck

In comparison to the other universities i have researched, i had come to a conclusion that i would recieve many benefits for a low price at tamucc (after applying to as many scholarships as i can), it is worth attending the university of corpus christi especially because the major i am planning on pursuing is a specialty the university offers. The appartment complexes for this university is amazing with such a low price a month that comes with basic needs such as a tv, washer, drier, and stove. The student life seems amazing, because the corridors is co- ed, which means you would make many male and female friends instead of just one gender in living on campus

    Will enjoy being here

after visiting the campus of tamucc, not only the view of the bay is beautiful, but the buildings and recreational center is amazing. Their clubs, majors, and student/ teacher ratios caught my eye. this campus had proved to me that i will enjoy attending my four years of college there like no other university i have visited in texas and the state of louisiana. it is not too far from, which is a plus for me. Corpus is the perfect fit for me

    Will learn a lot

i am a very attentive person when it comes to academics. without education, there is no success in the life you will live as an adult. I'm not only an over achiever in my academic history, i am also very commited to the sports i play in such as basketball, softball, soccer, and track, community service, and other extracurricular activities.

Great for these types of students

All types of students will fit well into this university. There is not one group who dominates as the university is just like America, a true melting pot ; A lot of variety.

    Tips for prospective students

When applying: *Have a GPA of 2.75+ *Do okay on your SAT/ ACT When in the university: *Try to maintain a 3.0 *Participate in student organizations *Volunteer to help others *After exams, don't hesitate to go out and relax a bit.

    Bang for the buck

The price is not that bad of a factor but what you need to know is that this university provides an average education but priced real well. Parking permits within this university range from $60-80 for an entire year, and you are able to purchase a parking permit for individual semesters. The university is gradually increasing tuition because of the budget cuts that are occurring in education throughout the state of Texas.

    Am enjoying being here

If you find some student organizations that you like, join them, and your university experience is greatly enhanced. The environment is good and you can always find something to do whether on campus or in the city of Corpus Christi.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the professors are very knowledgeable in what they teach while others are somewhat new to the teaching scene. You will receive an average education that is well priced.

There Is A Great Nursing Program Here One Of The Best. Also Anything Dealing With Marine Sciences. I Am Currently A Political Science Major & The This Program Isn't That Bad, All Of The Teachers In The College of Liberal Arts Are Passionate About Teaching What They Do.

    Tips for prospective students

Not Much Going On Here Just Volleyball & Basketball (Though There Is Golf, Softball, Baseball, But NO Football) In Classes Just Follow The Syllabus Each Teacher Gives You, It Will Surely Come In Handy! Make Sure To Check It Ahead Of Time For Future Assignments & Deadlines. Most Classes Have Online Assignments So Have A Computer If Not You Can Do It In The Library Or Various Computer Labs Around Campus. When It Comes To Books RENT Them! I Would Say Take A Triad Even Though You May Not Want To The Seminar Classes Are Only 1 Credit Hour But Come In Handy Helping Out With Your Classes Connected To It & Making Friends.

    Bang for the buck

It Could Be Better, But I Would Have To Say This School Is Cheap Compared To Most Universities & The Education You Get Will Surely Be The Same (If Not Better) As Other Universities Too.

    Campus Safety

Campus has security and is very safe!

    What to do for fun

Corpus Christi has two main malls and several movie theaters you can go to for fun. Also, on campus, there's a gym where you can also go to not only work out but enjoy yourself.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good (although a little expensive in my opinion). They've made sure to provide all sorts of types of food for all tastes - from oriental, to Chick Fil A, to pizza, to sushi, etc.

    Dorm Life

Living in dorms helps you meet people and make friends.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what your major is and what classes you take, the classes are not that bad. Most professors are willing to help you outside of class so if you need help, don't hesitate to shoot them an e-mail or ask for help!

    Tips for prospective students

If you're unsure about anything, be sure to talk to your advisor. And don't be worried if you're unsure about what major to go into; once you start taking the core curriculum classes, you'll get an idea of where your interests lie and you can work from there. Also, if like me you have two interests and can't pick between the two, you can always major in both or major in one and minor in the other. Good luck!

    In three sentences

The campus is a beautiful place to walk around in. The classes are not too difficult and the staff is helpful. Overall, it's a great place to go to school to further your education.

    Campus Safety

The campus is filled with many students, security personnel, and many emergency phones. However the campus can be a bit intimidating when nighttime comes around.

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs and activities range from fencing, theater, and sports to art associations and cultural gatherings.

Great for these types of students

Good for medical students, however if you are an art major there are only so many art classes to take.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus art department is always hosting some sort of interesting event. A most recent event would be the Oso Bay Parade in which a giant viking ship was carried to the beach and burned in a magnificent ceremony.

    Bang for the buck

It is disappointing that the quality of some of the teachers is rather low. Parking is also a very disappointing and infuriating element considering the limited space on the island. Some students with cars could take up to half an hour simply looking for parking.

    What to do for fun

The campus is located on an island on it's own with a small beach, but the city also has many other beaches to have fun at. The college constantly has events going on and there are many different clubs, athletic teams, and associations to join.

    Food and Dining

There are multiple places to eat on campus from subway to the small food stands dotting the campus. You can either walk to the university center for good food or buy something small to snack on between classes at the food stands in the various buildings.

    Dorm Life

I did not participate in dorm life and cannot therefore rate the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

So far classes are not too rigorous. Some classes may be difficult but for the most part freshman year focuses on your introduction to college life.

    Tips for prospective students

Freshman year will be rather frustrating as many of the instructors are student teachers, but there is also freshman seminar to help you find people with your tastes and interests who can help you study as the year goes on.

    In three sentences

A great school for those interested in a medical profession. A good school for those interested in marine biology. A very relaxing atmosphere with plenty of places to get work done.

    Food and Dining

You learn to cook for yourself in college.

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

Studying with friends or classmates os extremely important, take advantage of the studying opportunities it provides for you.

    Food and Dining

I've heard many different things when it comes to the topic on dining. I was told this school does not have a meal plan and I was also told it does. I'm unsure about this so don't take what I say here as a definitive fact.

    Academic Rigor

I don't have a basis for this rating because I'm not in attendance for this university, but based on what I've heard from others it seems to be a rather decent place to learn.

    In three sentences

Although I haven't made my way to visit the campus I already like what I see. Based on the conversations I've had with the faculty on the phone the people seem really helpful and are always willing to give assistance. I'm pretty much on my own when it comes to college but the admission process was extremely easy and any difficulties were solved with a quick phone call. I recommend this college to anyone wanting to meet good people.

    What to do for fun

The first thing that is obvious are the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. There some of the nicest and most vacant beaches in Corpus, which means that they are clean and very peaceful. On campus, there are many clubs and sororities/fraternities you can join to be involved everything from an Anime club to Sigma Gamma Gamma. There are trips and mission trips that happen almost every week and lot's of people to meet and greet. Now, if you are of age, there are many clubs (gay and bi friendly), bars, and thrift stores that hold local band shows and festivals. In downtown there are also Art walks that the city holds where the stores and shops sale art and local vendors sale their merchandise. There is also the Aquarium and Science Museum and so many other historical buildings. There is always something to do

    Food and Dining

The food and dining at our school is ok. We do have a variety and healthy foods. Although I do wish they had more to offer sometimes.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are in the Island and the school is not that big, so walking distance is absolutely awesome! You left something behind in the dorm? No worries, the dorms are in walking distance from anywhere in the school. The school keeps adding buildings and new things to itself, but all of their facilities are very nice and clean, ALWAYS. The dorms are newly built and so are the parking lots. Everyone plus guests are guaranteed a spot at all times of the day or night. The dorms are suites where you only share a restroom and all bills are paid, the dorms also include a fridge and a microwave. The dorms are simply neat.

    Academic Rigor

All classes that I have taken and my peers have taken are worth attending. The professors are very helpful and understanding for your first year and afterwards!!! The harder classes have equally as interesting and helpful professor leading the class, they try their absolute hardest to teach and make their students learn in a productive way.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply as fast as you can, send all required documents as fast you can, and do not be timid to ask for help. I say this with extreme certainty because I was lucky enough to land a job in our Admissions and Records office and I learned how long the process is for a student to get admitted and how there isn't enough students asking for free help and guidance.

    In three sentences

Loving and Chill! Corpus Christi is a very slow paced place. The people are extremely nice and the professors are very supportive, the tutoring and extra help is very noted. The scenery is very nice(especially because the school is on an Island, Ward Island) and the beaches are crispy clean and safe.

    What to do for fun

Go to the beach. Not much of a night life. You're pretty close to rural Texas so it's the perfect place to learn to fish and hunt.

    Food and Dining

Dining on campus is pretty limited to a fast food type menu similar to what you would find in a food court. Expect to go off campus to look for food as this will be cheaper and slightly more nutritious or learn to cook. There is no meal plan.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are not the greatest for the price. Expect rent to go up every year. Look into off campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

As with any school, how rigorous a class is varies from professor to professor. Try to find people who have taken the course previously before attempting any course you are unfamiliar with to get a general feel for it. Start study groups early.

    Tips for prospective students

Despite being close to the beach, this is not a part school. Don't slack off on the studying. Be prepared.

    In three sentences

TAMUCC has an attractive campus. It's science courses can be pretty rigorous. Faculty, staff, and students tend to be nice and helpful.

    Campus Safety

The campus is really big on safety, if something happens they send you an email telling you about the incident and what to watch out for and why to be careful and how to stay safe.

    Greek Life

There are many different houses to choose from and if you're like me you look at the movies and see the Greek Life System where they are just fully of stuck up preppy people that are just kind of there, and that's how you think they really are in really life colleges. But here, they are really easy to get into, and everyone is so friendly. Also every house does something different, some do charity work for cancer and others for diabetes, they serve a real purpose.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many, anything from Debate to Scuba Diving.

Great for these types of students

Outdoors, surfers, athletic, small town, nature feeling students. And also skaters, over half the campus goes around on either rollerblades, bikes, or longboards/skateboards.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Cats! This campus believes that we should take care of and be friendly to the wildlife, so basically all the time you will see cats and one very friendly squirrel that isn't afraid to come up to you(and take food out of your hand).

    Bang for the buck

    On-The-Go lunches, very reasonable prices!

    What to do for fun

There is a Starbucks, Subway, Barnes and Noble, and Gym, with are all fun places to hang-out at in between classes. But outside of school, basketball games are the place to be!

    Tips for prospective students

Keep up with your work and study. It depends on your teacher of course how hard the courses are but just work at it and have fun and it will be a great experience. Also go to the gym there, it's really great and i think you will really like it. And participate in extracurricular activities, there is always something going on, like basketball for example, it's all year from august to march, it's like other schools football team, lots get involved in that!

    In three sentences

It has a lot of things to do on the campus, such as the Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, and gym. The campus has a great view of the ocean and the campus itself look like an island, so it's very beautiful, it looks very tropical. And the teachers are great and are very helpful when it comes to needing the extra help, they care about the students, and are very ok with one on one learning.

    Campus Safety

The campus has many Police officers that patrol the area twenty-four-seven. Poles with blue lights are also located around the school that can be seen eye distant one to another. They are for emergencys and to make the on campus Police aware of situations that may need further assistance from others. They also help light the campus and if you are ever up working late in the library you can have a officer escort you to your apartment for safety! In addition to all that, your on a island and no one comes onto the island without a student ID or permission.

Great for these types of students

Texas A&M in Corpus Christi is great for students who need extra help outside of classes, learn better in smaller groups, and need hands-on learning. The college has many programs on the campus that are hands-on. They have their own navy and marine biology programs that work and are based on the island and its waters.

    What to do for fun

Take advantage of that beach as your backyard! There is so much that can be done in the water and in the sand. I plan to learn a new sport and attempt surfing. Your activities on the beach can range from volley ball to bonfires, and surfing to fishing. Fun in the Sun, sand, and water!

    Food and Dining

From what I noticed on my tour the good seems like they have a okay food variety. Being it isn't a huge campus you don't need as many food stops as you would. Aside from that they have the basics that all teenagers go to and love!

    Dorm Life

When I toured I found out there is not actual dorms. They are apartments because you don't share a bathroom with every one on your floor. The apartments are very spacious and there is privacy. The walking distance to the college is remarkably close! Not only is the college close but the beach is close too! The views from the apartment are nothing but beach. Being a city girl, it's nice to get a view of a blue ocean and smell the sea breeze from your windows.

    In three sentences

Not only is the college on the beach, but the campus is a good size to get to know your fellow students and professors. The campus has to be two thumbs up for me. Not only do they offer many different learning tools and programs, but there are many clubs and organizations to get into and network with new people.

    Campus Safety

Again, the campus is small and everyone is generally friendly. Really there isn't anything to worry about on-campus as there are campus security who definitely keep order and keep an eye out for things.

    Greek Life

I do not plan to be a part of the Greek Life, but my brother is part of Kappa Sigma, and he says that it's great. He was able to find something that suit him.

    Clubs and Activities

At orientation, we went to the gym and there were many presentations on different clubs. The different options were overwhelming and every presenter did a good job on convincing people to join their clubs.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

My brother, who will now be a sophomore, told me of the Humans vs. Zombies game that is for the entire university and is a week-long event. It is something I find unique and exciting.

    Bang for the buck

Texas A&M Corpus Christi is definitely an affordable school, and for the quality of education is definitely worth it and reasonable. Not to mention the many financial aid opportunities offered by the school and offered by many people around the web.

    What to do for fun

The most amazing thing about the campus is the school spirit and unity of the school There are so many activities and things to do with the school as well as off campus. There are a lot of shopping centers and fine restaurants around, not to mention the beach!

    Food and Dining

As Texas A&M Corpus Christi isn't an extremely large campus, there isn't much selection. The cafeteria food is good, and they recently added a Subway in the middle of campus which is convenient for us who will have to pick up a bite to eat from class to class.

    Dorm Life

I am not able to review the dorm life, as I have not seen the dorms, nor will I be living in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

All of the professors are ready to challenge all of us and are definitely going to be treating us as adults. I've already been receiving emails from my new professors, providing to me the syllabus and required reading materials for next year.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're a student looking to enter the college of nursing at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, this school is definitely the one for you because one thing this campus can confidently say is that they have a 100% passing rate for all nursing students. There is a lot of help available on campus, but you have to be willing to seek it out. If you feel like you're about to start slipping in your grades, there's the C.A.S.A. in the student center.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love the campus and the atmosphere because everything is so relaxing and friendly. All of the staff are 100% dedicated to pushing their students to graduate at the appropriate year and there are so many opportunities to keep grades up and seek help if necessary. Campus Safety

Campus safety is really on top of things there main goal is to make sure everyone on the campus is safe and secure no matter what the problem is.

    Clubs and Activities

TAMU-CC has over 100 activities and clubs for students to get involved in something so being bored shouldn't be a problem.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I was showed our campus dance for games and stuff and it was a little awkward but it was really fun because I wasn't the only one.

    What to do for fun

There are many different activities offered by tamucc that i was told and showed so its just a matter of putting yourself out there and finding what you want to do.

    Food and Dining

TAMU-CC has many restaurants around the school and they also have meal plans so either way you go the food is awesome. I think the only issue that the students would have is seats for lunch.

    Academic Rigor

I talked to many professors and feel pretty confident that i will succeed with the teaching skills.

    Tips for prospective students

I haven't started there yet but my advice is to go to both days of orientation. And if your a junior in high school to start signing up and doing scholarships because the is a lot that you can receive if you start early.

    In three sentences

TAMU-CC seems like a really great school i was on there campus for 2 days and I really loved it. TAMU-CC i believe is a rating of a 5 star. Its over all rating is a5 because the campus is everything I thought.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very open and beautiful. There are campus police always roaming around. The biggest safety concern I have is student drivers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I haven't been here long, but there are campus cats around every corner. They are friendly and mind their own business. An organization was created to spay and neuter all of the cats (there used to be a lot more than there are now).

    What to do for fun

There is always a lot of things happening on campus, but there are many things to do off campus too. TAMU-CC has their own beach, and the public beach is about ten minutes away from the school. The mall, movies, and many other restaurants are also within ten minutes of TAMU-CC.

    Food and Dining

Anything is better compared to the high school cafeteria! There are a few restaurant chains on campus, including Subway, Chick-fil-a, and Starbucks. The other food served in the commons (including sushi) is also very good and reasonably priced.

    Dorm Life

I am not living on campus. Cappex said the rating was required, so I put one star because I can't give any input about this topic.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends what classes you take, and what you are good at. However, all of the teachers are willing to help you understand the material as long as you ask for help.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get a campus tour! It really helps get an idea of how big/small the campus is, and helps you know where everything is located.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love the campus! It is a beautiful environment with an outstanding faculty and friendly students. TAMU-CC really wants you to succeed, and they do a great job of helping you!

    Campus Safety

I honestly have never felt unsafe on campus, but if you ever did there are tons of security poles that automatically dials the cops on campus.

    Greek Life

I went greek and absolutely love it. I honestly was thinking of not doing it, but they are very involved not only on campus, but in the community as well. Many of the Greek organizations do put a huge priority on grades so to me that was a huge plus. They do help other greek organizations as well and get more involved on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are TONS of clubs on campus to get involved. Also, most of the clubs and organizations work together on things.

Great for these types of students

This campus is very diverse which personally I love. You get to know tons of new people and views on life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I haven't been here for long so I haven't got to experience many of the traditions, like the lighting of the I, which I have heard is really neat to watch.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of stuff to do for fun! The campus overlooks the beach; That should explain everything! Also, there are tons of museums around town and the USSR ship that you can take tours on. The mall is extremely close to campus and that is every girls dream!

    Food and Dining

Food on campus is delicious!! Even off campus there is plenty of things to go eat and are all really close! The only down part to on campus eating is the healthier the food the more expensive it is.

    Dorm Life

Dorms and apartments do come in handy at times. You can walk everywhere and no need to waste money on gas. The only thing I can say that sucks about it is that they maintenance people are really slow to fix problems. Also there is a slight bug problem, but I haven't had any major issues.

    Academic Rigor

They really do stress the importance of academics here, but in a good way. Professors are always there to help. Also, things like CASA are an extreme help when you just can't understand a subject.

    Tips for prospective students

Study!! Make sure you stay on top of what is going on in each class and when things are due. Also, get involved. It actually helps with your studies and you will always have a study buddy!

I absolutely love this campus. It is very small and the professors really do want to help you succeed. I love how small and personable the classes are for the most part.

    Campus Safety

If you live on campus, you'll have to do a lot of street-crossing. The kids try to show off and look cool by going well over 20 mph (the speed limit), so have fun crossing those streets. They don't take too kindly to you if you try to walk in front of them while they're doing their thing. Occasionally, campus police officers will pull kids over, though. Those are rare occasions, but they are fantastic moments.

    Greek Life

Well, there's tons of Greek Life, that's for certain. Not too sure if they really understand the meaning of sororities/fraternities here, though. It sure is different than the sororities/fraternities I'm familiar with back in my hometown of Austin.

Great for these types of students

Students who love to party, are from small towns, can't get into Texas A&M University, and are not willing to commit to attempting to get a good education.

    What to do for fun

You can go to the beach. That's about it.

    Food and Dining

Good but irrationally pricey, inconveniently located around campus and far away from the on-campus housing, and do not stay open late. Closed on weekends.

    Dorm Life

    Boring.

    Academic Rigor

Comparable to that which I had received at Austin Community College.

    Tips for prospective students

Really think about why you want to go here. If you're from a big city full of diversity, really think about it! Do you just want to go here because you slacked off in high school and know most colleges won't accept you? Stay there and go to community college, then transfer to a bigger university elsewhere once you get that GPA up. If you value your education over partying, it will be well worth it. A&M Corpus is not for everyone. It certainly isn't for me.

    In three sentences

There is barely any diversity here. Most students are from the area or surrounding small towns. The education is comparable to a community college education at the undergraduate level.

Great for these types of students

People who love to relax and have fun! The school is great for academics who want to succeed and it's fantastic for those who never thought they could ever do well - the school stimulates them to do their best.

    Bang for the buck

A little pricey, but the courses are well worth it.

    What to do for fun

On campus, not a lot. There's events every week and stuff, but that's about it. Corpus offers a lot though! Beaches, movies, clubs, parks, boats, the waterpark, concerts and sports games are all really common and popular.

    Food and Dining

There's a lot of options, but they ALL get tiring after a while. There's a lot of grease and fatty foods and very high prices.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very nice, but they're also expensive. The spacious ones are more worth the money than the small dorms, but off campus housing is still a better bet. But there is the convenience factor because the campus is so small. And there is always events happening with Camden for the residents. The maintenance people are very friendly too, and willing to do what they can to help.

    Academic Rigor

The professors can be harsh but they work you for a reason. They do what they can to help you succeed - they want the best for all of us. The core courses can be intense and depending on your major, those classes could be even more intense. But it makes it all the more worthwhile.

    Tips for prospective students

Know where the best beaches are and know what you love to do most. Don't be afraid to choose something that others may not like - this is YOUR education and YOU deserve to be happy and to pay money for what YOU love to do.

    In three sentences

It's a great school that is full of opportunity, however the professors can sometimes be less than desirable. Even so, the programs here are amazing and very worth the money and time spent towards a degree.

The Dougan Wellness Center is available for any student who wants to work out or play sports. There is a plethora of clubs on campus that can keep you entertained.

    Food and Dining

There isn't a formal dining hall on campus, but there is a central market area with a few restaurants in it and a Subway and Starbucks in the middle of the campus.

    Dorm Life

I live in the apartments on campus and they are good for the typical college student. My only complaints are the wild cats that the university keeps live behind the apartments and there are some rowdy residents that can ruin a peaceful morning watching the sun rise over the bay.

    Academic Rigor

    What to do for fun

There are clubs to go to off campus, the beach, and the art walk once a month downtown. These are the options that i have chosen to explore for entertainment.

    Food and Dining

The dining options here are limited. The only fast food places on campus are Starbucks and Subway. There are also meal plans, but the food is bland. I don't have the meal plan since it is too expensive. I chose to cook my own meals in order to save money.

    Dorm Life

If you want to live in a cheap dorm, choose Surf and Jetty. You must apply several months early though in order to find a room.

Most people are satisfied with the food, but personally I think they could do much better. It is also pretty expensive, though you tend to get a lot for your money.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorm, but they are supposed to be very nice.

    Academic Rigor

I depends on what major or department you enter, the nursing, aquatic sciences, and business schools are great, but the other departments are about average.

    Tips for prospective students

Pick your degree early if you know what to do, it makes it easier. Be proactive and join some type of organization, there are many at TAMUCC. The atmosphere is relaxed so just chill and have fun.

    In three sentences

The business school is very good, it is also accredited which is great. The classes are challenging, but they are passable and informative. The campus is also a great place, very beautiful and well taken care of with a great view of the bay.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

None that i am aware of

    Bang for the buck

Its expensive, it works at around $1,000 per hour. Yes, per hour, a normal class is about 3 hours. You do the math.

    What to do for fun

    BEACH BEACH BEACH!

    Food and Dining

Pretty good food all around, not many dining halls, just one major one. Really good food though.

    Dorm Life

Not much to choose from, only two dorms available on campus and they are normally overrun by freshman. Your best bet is too stay off campus, there are a lot of apartments that are considered off-campus but they are walking distance to the school

    Academic Rigor

I personally believe, there should be no school that is easier and harder, some may be more writing intensive than others, but with that said as long as you do your work and not wait until the last minute you will be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to graduate with an A&M label on your degree, but you don't want to move to the middle of nowhere A&M College Station, then this school is really good. Situated on the coast it is just as good as any other 4 year school.

    In three sentences

Texas A&M is relativly a small school. Not very much activity life on campus. The school has great teachers, great programs, and its on the beach.

The dugan wellness center has everything a person can think of when it comes to exercising. Group fitness classes and an outdoor pool keeps me fit and entertained between classes. If I have an exam, I can slip into the library right across from the subway and cram, then grab some brain food. Basketball games are usually pack and tons of fun.

    Food and Dining

There is sushi. Very fresh and very tasty. The food is healthy and there is a wide variety for students to choose from. There is also a subway and a starbucks on campus if students need their $5 footlong / caffeine fix!

    Dorm Life

I live off campus. I have not experienced the dorms nor can I elaborate on anything I have heard as it would be a fallacy to the network of students who actually live on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Course work is rigorous and demanding of a lot of your free time. Be prepared to stay in on Friday and Saturday nights but know it is for a goal you will surely find that is well worth the sacrifice. Professors allow students to find their own study habits and pathways; they generally do not give a lot of direction on how much time you should spend studying for an exam. These professors are extremely tuned in to how the professional world works, in that deadlines should be met without question or reminder.

    Tips for prospective students

Be organized and take full advantage of any and all study groups and tutorials given in every course taken. Attend all classes as though it is your job and are being paid for each hour you are present. Perfection is not expected but rather the strive for perfection is demanded by professors here.

    In three sentences

Experienced and knowledgeable staff. Unique and plentiful opportunities for students to be successful in their educational endeavors. By far one of the best geographic information sciences programs in the country.

    Campus Safety

The campus police are almost always patrolling. Considering the school is on its own island adds to the security feature. Only two ways in and out.

    Clubs and Activities

There's a club for almost anything.

Great for these types of students

Great for people who love the beach, and a relaxed atmosphere that's not packed with people all over. The landscaping and atmosphere on campus is also very relaxing, making it easy to always find a good quiet spot to work or study. However if you're more of a socialite, the fellow students on campus are all actually pretty friendly!

    Bang for the buck

Given it's a university in the A & M system, I can understand the costs associated with it, but as far as the fine arts department is concerned, the budget isn't nearly great enough. Arts take a lot of materials and equipment, which we pay for in our tuition. Sometimes we can be delayed on projects, or not even be able to start a cool one at all because the art department lacks furnishings in a particular tool, supply, or material.

    What to do for fun

There's always a good game going throughout the year on any given week. The campus also hosts a lot of guest speakers, fairs, concerts and plays, and not to mention, they build a beach for the campus so you can actually have some ultimate Frisbee on the sand, and if you want the real gulf of mexico, it's only 15 minutes away!!

    Food and Dining

Great selection, restraunts and snack stands are distributed evenly throughout campus, vending machines in every building!! The campus could use an affordable sit-down style food joint.

    Dorm Life

    Never stayed in dorms before

    Academic Rigor

The teachers challenge each student individually. With the arts in particular, each student is at a different stage and advancement in their skills. Even though everyone isn't at the same point in skill, the teachers adapt and tailor assignments to not only challenge everyone individually, but nurture their own creative intuition and involvement.

    Tips for prospective students

If you love beach living and atmosphere, A&M CC is the right place to be. You can study almost anything here, and the teachers are dedicated to their students

    In three sentences

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL campus. No overwhelming class sizes, but abundant diversity. The fine arts department is in need of more teachers...

    Bang for the buck

TAMUCC is one of the lowest ranked in tuition cost out of the other Texas A&M schools. I feel as if I've gotten more than I paid for.

    What to do for fun

TAMUCC is situated on an island and has two beaches within walking distance. It literally takes minutes to be in the sand and such. If beaches aren't your thing though, there are live music shows and campus events that happen quite often.

    Food and Dining

Oh the options! There are so many restaurants like Chik-fil-a and Starbucks on campus. The prices are great and so is the variety.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fun to live in. I live in a residence hall suite and I've made so many friends and have had so much fun. The only thing I would complain about is the issue of overflow, so apply for housing early!

    Academic Rigor

You definitely have to apply yourself to your classes, but depending upon your major the workload can vary. There are several tutoring groups here to help though and a library with the aroma of the Subway next door.

    Tips for prospective students

Getting around campus is fairly easy on foot. I would just say pay attention during orientation as you will be encountering the whole oh no I'm lost! problem if you don't. However if you do get lost the kids here are nice enough to point you the right way.

    In three sentences

This university is an awesome environment for learning and growing as a student. I really do love attending this college. The only thing I would have to say against it is that it doesn't have extensive degree plans offered.

A favorite past time for students would probably be going out and relaxing or studying at the beach. Students always have events happening at campus for people to get involved on. Work out, have a coffee or some lunch, play some intramural sports, get to know people.

    Food and Dining

There are various food choices to choose from so you're not limited to just a line or type of food. Whether it be comfort food or fast food, it's there and at your convenience. There are also daily deals so you can get a bang for your buck!

    Dorm Life

Students are always in, out and around their dorms. There's never a dull moment in the dorms and students are friendly and fun. At leas experience the dorm life once in your life!

    Academic Rigor

Some classes can be challenging or feel like a breeze. Professors are always willing to help and there are always people available to help you, so don't feel discouraged. Though it may seem difficult at times, it'll be worth it in the end.

    Tips for prospective students

There are plenty of activities always occurring on and off campus so be involved and put yourself out there! Dont be shy, make friends and form study groups. Balance out your education and social life and always prioritize.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is GREAT. we have on capus police and if you need to call them from the dorms, they are there really fast. You can call for anything, even if you just don't feel safe walking home. We also have emergency police poles placed everywhere on campus, so if anything happens your are always near help. And the police respond quickly.

    Clubs and Activities

we have NUMEROUS clubs and activities. You would never miss a meeting or a date. The clubs are always out in the walkways or in the UC passing out flyers and trying get you to joins

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

In the winter, the school is lit up with a bunch of school colored lights. Its amazingly beautiful. Another cool thing is we have our own little beach in the front of campus, and a bay behind us... we are literally on an island.

    Bang for the buck

I defiantly think that the amount we pay for classes is worth it. The amount for the housing is a bit expensive, but the apartments and dorms are fine. For transportation, most people have skateboards, or you can take the bus, which is free for students with their ID.

    What to do for fun

For fun, the school puts on a lot of fun activities that are free for students and are just for us to have fun and get stress free. The students also put on a lot of parties, but you have to be careful about those... you need to go to class still.

    Food and Dining

There is a good variety in school foods. You can go to the cafeteria and eat school foods, which aren't like the foods that you would normal find. If you don't like the idea school foods, we also have a Subway, Starbucks, and a Chick-fil-et.

    Dorm Life

I live in an on campus apartment. The place is roomy and not to personal. My roommate and I get along great and we have no problems sharing.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the class are easy enough that you can maintain yourself. If you are in a learning community, a lot of the things that you do or write will be in a group which make its easier. If your are having any trouble, you can talk to the TA's for help, they are going through, or already have, exactly what you are.

    Tips for prospective students

The first and foremost thing would be to go to class. everything you need to know will be covered in lecture or lab. Plus some professors grade on attendance, and that's a grade to easy to miss out on.

If you would like to become a part of something greater than yourself and be with people who will help you be a better person and succeed then Greek life might be for you. Going Greek is a way of having a brother or sister that will lend you a helping hand anywhere you go.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do around corpus, there's the mall, aquarium, really nice beaches close by. Also we have a lot of artist come and perform. Another thing are the different events that happen on capus during the year and are all free to students.

    Food and Dining

There is a lot of food selection, with one main dining hall and different places around campus to grab a bite to eat. Although after a while you might get tired of eating the same foods over and over again. Luckily there is plenty of selection to go around before and if that happens.

    Dorm Life

Live on campus at least for your first year to get used to the transition from high school to college. After that if you are able to move off of campus then that would be recommended. Pros to living on campus are that you are only a ten minute walk away from classes and can go home whenever you want to but the downside is that you are sometimes paying more than it may seem worth.

    Academic Rigor

youre not in high school anymore and the professors wont be babying you anymore. Either you get your work done on time or to bad so sad. Another thing, utilize the school academic resources, they will get you a better grade then doing things on your own.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan ahead of time what college you want to go to and enjoy things like orientation and freshman camp. Find out if what the school has to offer and make sure that it meets the needs for where you want to go in life. On a more important note, don't wait forever to apply to the college and to fill out important information (i.e. FAFSA).

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is very good. Sometimes having to use your sanddollar to get into campus after ten is a pain but in reality it is what is keeping us safe, so I don't mind it. I feel very safe in my apartment on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities are very active on our campus. There is always something going on on the UC lawn or at Camden Miramar the company in charge of the apartments and dorms on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Probably the biggest bang for the buck that you can get one campus is the fact they have a lot of activities on campus with FREE food!

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do for fun but since I am an athlete a lot of times I am either in class, studying, sleeping, or at practice so a lot of times sleeping is what is fun for me. One of the best perks about going to this university is that we are right by the beach and if you love the beach this is definitely the school for you!

    Food and Dining

The food and dining could use a little help but they are building a new dining hall for next year so I am sure that that will improve a lot next year. For the most part I really don't use the food and dining because I live in an apartment with a kitchen so I cook a lot of my food or buy food at the grocery store because it is a lot cheaper.

    Dorm Life

I live in the apartments on campus and I believe it is a great experience for a freshman to have because you will meet tons of new people and you are experiencing living on your own for the first time. They are pretty spacious and are really convenient because they are fully furnished and on campus.

    Academic Rigor

I believe the professors here are really good and have definitely taught me well and what I need to know. I do have to commend the English department here because they have done such a good job on getting us freshman prepared for our other classes and how to write a proper essay the way it needs to be written in college. Since in a lot of high schools we were taught completely different rules on writing that do not apply in college and in fact will you get you a bad grade on a college paper.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip I have is take advantage of the fact that you are given like group tutors. They are extremely helpful and can be the difference of you passing a class and not passing one or getting an A and a B. Another big one is go to class. You are paying to be a student here or your parents are do not waste their money or yours by not going to class and getting a bad grade. If you go to class, pay attention, and study you will do great in your classes.

    In three sentences

This University is a really good one. They have a lot of people willing to help you make it through your college experience especially during your freshman year. They have great professors that are willing to help you learn the material better if you are willing to put the effort in. The sports and spirit at the school is great as well. There are so many opportunities for people to join in and get to know others. Camden Miramar also helps with giving opportunities to meet new people and have a wonderful college experience.

Crazy. They are always set up looking for new people, or getting us to participate in some of there games, activities they provide.

    What to do for fun

For fun, the college is always hosting events in their lawns, they have plays you can go watch, interactive games like HvZ. So there is always something to be doing here at the campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is is actually really great. Good choices and variety. One problem, on college funds, it is not cheap as a college student might want it.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are okay. They are clean and efficient for what a student can get by on, but they are small and you can hear the students next door.

    Academic Rigor

It is pretty good. Most students will get competitive with their grades with each other. Also the school provides great places to study.

    Tips for prospective students

If your wanting to go here be prepared to half to walk long distances in short time. Especially if your classes are 10 minutes in between and across the campus from each other. Also make sure to watch for the long-boarders they tend to be everywhere.

    What to do for fun

The most obvious option is going to the beach! The campus beach is not as beautiful or fun as driving down the highway to Padre. A lot of students really enjoyed going to Roper's, a local dance club and bar. Many other students actually enjoyed going downtown to win big at bingo, kayaking across the local bays, and shopping around the La Palmera mall just five minutes from campus.

    Food and Dining

There are so many options for eating out on campus! The food is all very good, unfortunately a tad expensive, but still very, very good.

    Dorm Life

The rooms are big and moderately well furnished, and the community experience is fantastic. In my personal experience, though, it seemed that toward the end of the year, allowing some students to suffer with serious maintenance issues until move-out day. The housing communities are worth the trouble I suppose, but definitely not worth the pricing.

    Academic Rigor

I love how challenging the professors have made their courses thus far, but I have also heard a lot of complaints from other students failing out. Personally, the campus has a very balanced setting between the relaxation and the amazing study rooms in the library.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you do NOT get sucked into the beach life! Yes, it is awesome to relax every now and then, but there is a reason that this University does not have a high student retention rate. Make sure you don't fail out and waste your parent's money.

    In three sentences

I love the location of the campus, the landscaping is gorgeous. The Professors are, in my experience, all very helpful and kind, but still very challenging. The campus overall is a very relaxing and exciting place to study.

The Greek life on campus although I'm not involved is very strong although there is no Greek housing there is still plenty of Greek events and parties.

    Clubs and Activities

I am very involved in academic clubs at tamucc and these cubs offer lots of opportunities as to what you strive to be after college. And they actually help you decide if its really what you want to do with your life.

Great for these types of students

The school has a Bon fire every Thursday and this is like a tradition that all the kid go to and you can definitely make friends at this social event.

    Bang for the buck

This school is relatively cheep and the professors are well knowledgeable on their subject field. Also all administrators are easier to meet because of the schools small size so your not competing with everyone.

    What to do for fun

There is an on campus beach also many different classes are offered through the gym that can teach you to scuba dive as well as wind surfing. They also have a Bon fire every Thursday in port a which is fun to go to.

    Food and Dining

This year the school is updating the cafeteria but I liked it before so I can only imagine what the new things they have came up with

    Dorm Life

I'm not sure of the dorms because I lived off campus. But from driving by them and going to friends dorms they seem to be fairly normal.

    Academic Rigor

At school here I have take 18 hours for a semester and it was tough had I had no social life but it was well worth it. This school offer a lot of help to students so the transition from high school to college is not stress full and this definitely helps.

    Tips for prospective students

This school would be on the top of my list. I would definitely register early and start looking into field so study. Be prepared to study and do your own laundry. College was a wake up call especially if you want to bring home good grades and impress people back home.

    Campus Safety

The school has security guards all around campus. I often saw them ticketing in the parking lot so don't park there if you don't have the proper parking permit!

Great for these types of students

Great for smaller town, not partying type students. This is not a party school and a simple life kind of university.

    Bang for the buck

This university was ranked around some of the lowest tuition available for higher education schools. The tuition is about $3,000 for a full time semester, but the books tend to be expensive. Expect to spend about ~$300 on books.

    What to do for fun

Corpus Christi is a small town with not too much to do, you'll have to get creative to keep yourself entertained. Popular clubs are Aria downtown and Ropers on Everhart Road. Ropers has free dance classes on Friday with a changing theme every week. If you're the outdoors-y type, there's a beach near by. Being from this city, I recommend Mustang Island as the best beach because it has the cleanest water and the whitest sand. There are baseball games at the Whataburger stadium with a fireworks show every Friday night. Karaoke is available at a bar downtown called Cheers and to see local rock concerts, the House of Rock has events throughout the week. Tuesday is HoR's Open Mic with comedy and local performers. Local comedy I personally highly recommend is at the Railroad Station on Thursday nights around 10pm.

    Food and Dining

Chic-Fil-A is available in the food court along with local food places and Subway. If you ever need coffee there is a Starbucks by the library as well. The food is a tad expensive but there are different dinner plans available if you expect to eat at the campus often.

    Dorm Life

I have only stayed in the dorm for a short period of time, and although the dorms are right by the water, they tend to be overpriced and a little run down. Students, like at any college, are quite rowdy. I recommend staying at the co-op near by around Ennis Joslin and McArdle or at a surrounding apartment and saving yourself the pain of dorms. A big plus of the dorms though is that you will always have a parking spot since limited parking is an issue with the campus.

    Academic Rigor

The way the academia is set up for many majors is in groups, or what they call triads. You can take 3 or 4 classes that are all related to each other based on a theme. One class will be fairly large, then will break down into smaller classes with identical students so one can network within and build a strong study group. Since each class is based on the same theme, they will all relate to each other in different ways making it easier to see how the information applies to the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

1.) The campus supplies all sorts of useful resources to help you excel in class. Do not take this for granted. Use CASA for additional help and tutoring. Harder courses have S.I. assistants who tutor students outside of class for that specific course in CASA as well. These both can turn your B into an A. 2.) Don't forget your student ID! Your ID can help you get discounts at some places nearby around town, especially at Pizza State, a popular restaurant by the campus next to the bookstore. 3.) Rent books, don't buy. In my experience, books at this campus change fairly quickly. Professors may write their own textbooks or they may have a custom made book that changes every couple of semesters. Rent your books, I tried buying some before and reselling them but they had changed the textbook so resell was rendered useless! Plus, renting can save you a lot of money in the end!

    In three sentences

TAMU-CC is a beautiful school that is unique by being on an island by the beach all on its own. It's an ECO school that uses the wind energy from the city to power the campus. Overall, this university is appealing in its appearance, care for the environment, and most importantly the one-on-one student-teacher relationship with every class available.

    What to do for fun

Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is surrounded by great places for fun. First off, we have the beach. Which is well known for its beautiful waters and gorgeous sands. A lot of the locals and those who aren't from here, love to visit our beaches. The mall is also a great place to go to relieve some stress. We also have a pretty decent night life here. A lot of nice places to go dancing and have fun with friends.

    Food and Dining

The Food and Dining here is okay. The food is a bit pricey, but you do get a great amount for the price, which is a plus. We have several Dining places across campus, including big places such as Subway and Starbucks. There are also great vegetarian choices, so that those who don't eat meat, can feel comfortable here.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is great here. Not only will you find comfort here, but the dorms are absolutely beautiful. The RAs (Residential Advisors) are also great people. They are also students, so they easily understand the residents problems and are there to help out at any time.

    Academic Rigor

Professors here are great. They love to help students out when needed. The classwork and exams aren't too hard. You have to really pay attention however, in order to get ahead. There are great tutoring centers, computer labs, library, and advisors here that will make college here a breeze.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to take a tour before making a decision on whether or not you will attend a school. By taking a tour, you can try to picture yourself here and figure out whether or not you belong here. Also make sure that you have all of your documents in order. Documents such as transcripts, essays, SAT/ACT scores, medical records, etc should be in hand, as to make transitioning from High School life to College life much easier. Prospective students should also talk to some current students and ask questions. Get a feel for what being a college student will be like. Lastly, don't procrastinate. Starting your college career off by procrastinating is setting yourself up for failure. Don't do it.

    In three sentences

Aside from the occasional threat and evacuation of hurricanes, I would say this campus is safe. I felt comfortable here and not threatened by anyone or anything.

    Greek Life

Very stereotypical greek life at most colleges but worth trying to get into. Some amazing people are in these organizations.

    Clubs and Activities

Pretty good variety here! The gym is state of the art and amazing. Worth the tuition money just to have access to the gym facilities.

Great for these types of students

    Liberal Arts Majors, Independent, Social

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The mascot is literally a totem pole come to life. Freaks me out every time.

    Bang for the buck

It's getting more expensive each year, but still on par with a public texas state university.

    What to do for fun

The BEACH!!! Concerts in the park or the American Bank Center. Plenty of businesses to volunteer at and of course you can get a job and work, too.

    Food and Dining

They are getting better about adding on more places to eat but when I attended there was only a Subway and general shoppette. There is nothing open on the weekends except maybe one building with a vending machine. As a freshman without a car I went without foods on the weekends a lot. You CANNOT sustain on the island without going grocery shopping. There is a cafeteria but it's not open early or late enough to accommodate typical college students and also closed on the weekends. They just started offering a food plan there but don't waste your money.

    Dorm Life

I found them to be disgusting. A lot of the students didn't really form a community in the dorms even though the dorm leader tried to unite everyone with meetings and activities. I suggest if you are into the social aspect of college, to get involved in a greek organization or campus club that really interests you because there wasn't much cohesiveness in the dorms. People were mostly there for themselves.

    Academic Rigor

Could be worse. I'm an A/B student and I received A's and B's at this school. Sometimes they seemed too easy, sometimes too hard. It's definitely no joke. You have to work for the grades you want and there is no way around it.

    Tips for prospective students

Living on campus may or may not be the best choice for you. Research apartments and living areas around the school. A large majority commute from nearby rather than live on campus. I've done both and found Camden Miramar to be kind of old and disgusting when it comes to cleanliness! Also, research the website and find your instructor and syllabus online from previous semesters. It will help you get a head start on classes. Another tip is AVOID the bookstore! The bookstore is nice but everything is overpriced. Buy or rent your textbooks online through Amazon or another reputable source rather than the bookstore and don't be afraid to get older editions of the same book. Most professors in the psychology and nursing departments go off of lecture notes or NCLEX test preparation books. If you are applying to their nursing program or have just been accepted, I STRONGLY suggest you research the HESI exams. In some classes, your scores on these tests will compromise up to 80% of your course grade. They are administered from an outside source, not the professor so information is general and lectures typically don't cover the material that is on them. You need NCLEX review books and study materials to fill the gaps. Also, enjoy your time here and don't be afraid to explore the island! There are a lot of little study spaces and corners you can lay your books out and read. I loved it there while I was attending.

    In three sentences

Graduated in 2009 with a BA in Psychology and then graduated in 2012 with a BSN in Nursing. The campus has grown so much and is still building and recruiting like crazy for new students! Don't be fooled by the beach, this school is for serious students who work hard.

    Campus Safety

They have a police department that works closely with the campus. You'll always see a police car around not because there is any danger but only because they are there in the case that someone may need help. It feels comforting to know that I am well protected. Another great opportunity the campus holds is if you are studying late at the library and it grows dark outside and you feel uncomfortable walking back to your car or dorm by yourself, they have patrol men and women on golf carts ready to escort you to your location safely. I was very impressed by that small, but kind service.

    What to do for fun

There are so many things to do here, I mean we do live next to a beach! At the Rec Center, you can rent surfboards, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, fishing equipment, etc. There is also a beautiful 2 story gym in the Rec center along with the many different organizations you can be a part of.

    Food and Dining

I don't have a meal plan here so I can't mention the dining hall food. But there are many restaurants on campus including Starbucks, Subway, Einstein's Bagels, and another Coffee Shop. So far I haven't had a problem with any of these places.

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm hall. It's quiet and peaceful, my roommate is stellar, and my RA is very approachable. The only problem I encountered was hooking up my computer to the internet, which was easy solved with a few phone calls.

    Academic Rigor

Being a biology major, I'm definitely experiencing the rigor of challenging classes. But one thing that calms me is to know that even in my hardest classes there are older students specifically placed in the class to help guide me along with the several other tutoring programs the campus holds.

    Tips for prospective students

To be honest, what you see is what you get here. The campus is BEAUTIFUL, with gardens and beaches. I suggest a tour so you have an idea what life on campus is like.

    In three sentences

Texas A&M Corpus Christi is best defined as a relaxed, small town. With about 10,000 students the vibe the campus has set is a very family oriented, calm environment. Something that my tour guide told us is that students will hang hammocks from the trees on the campus and actually take naps. Another is the Free Speech Podium which is a chess board in the plaza where you can say anything and not get in trouble. During Finals Week, they will bring in puppies that you can play with. Not only that but also old cars, appliances, laptops...etc that you can smash to relieve stress.

    What to do for fun

Well, It has a beach, so any aquatic activities are obvious. Their Rec center is pretty big and has a lot of activities that you can do to stay fit.

    Food and Dining

I don't really know how the food is yet, I only just applied, but they have a Subway and a Starbucks located near the library. The food hall is located in the hub of everything you will need.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are HUGE! The dorms are Camden Miramar apartments, so the cost is a little pricey compared to other school's housing, but it comes with ALL utilities paid for (water, electricity, internet connection, etc...). Not only that, but it includes laundry machines for no cost. You want to apply for the school first as quickly as you can so you can apply for housing.

    Academic Rigor

This college is perfect for student who are trying to pursue a career in medicine, education, and marine biology. They have their own mock-hospital using robots to take place of patients. That way students can get experience before working in an actual hospital. They also have an elementary school right on campus with an observation deck so parents, students, and teachers can see what the children are doing.

    Tips for prospective students

You want to apply as soon as you can, so you can apply for housing. It also is a good idea to go to their Island Days, where you can learn about traditions and get acquainted with the students. From what I've seen from my tour of the campus, there are a lot to things that can keep you active in their rec center; perfect for fighting the dreaded Freshmen 15.

    In three sentences

The campus is absolutely beautiful! It is a pretty decent size campus; not to big but not too small either, perfect for student who have come from smaller high-schools. It has it's own kind of atmosphere, pretty relaxed and just kind of free.

    What to do for fun

Lots to do here. The main thing is to get involved. There are so MANY choices.

    Food and Dining

It is going to get better, new dining hall is being built. There are a few places to eat on campus and there is kitchens in the dorms, some are in the rooms and some are in the common area.

    Dorm Life

Everyone should experience dorm life. It is a great way to meet new people and they always have activities to get involved in. Down side is the bed is too small for me.

    Academic Rigor

Make sure you check your Blackboard and email often. Write due dates down and stay on top of things. Plenty of help out there all you have to do is ask.

    Tips for prospective students

Organization of time, assignments, and extra curricular activities is a must. Be sure and get involved in order to be more rounded and meet lots of different people. Never be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

We have cops patrolling the campus all the time, we also have two entrances to campus so that everyone has to stop through one of them to even get on campus. Our campus is also on and island so its away from any other type of off campus activity so that cops can keep an eye on just our students.

    Greek Life

Personally I don't care too much for greek life but I have friends who are and they don't seem that bad, they are always fundraising for their respective causes and I like that about them.

    Clubs and Activities

I am currently a Blue Crew cabinet member and what we do is get everyone at the sporting events on campus amped up and ready to cheer for our Islander athletes. Its great because the org was willing to accept me as a freshmen and I really liked that they treat everyone equal. I'm also apart of Campus activities Board and we host all types of events on campus that are free to students here which is amazing and they are super fun! I'm in an honor society for students looking to go into pre-professional school called Alpha Epsilon Delta which is really awesome with helping get volunteer hours. I also participated in this manhunt called Human vs Zombies which was a thrill! Perfect for any zombie lovers out there. There's just so many organizations here on campus, you just have to join!

Great for these types of students

I know for sure the school is great if you want to do anything with marine biology but I also know that our business school is one of the best accredited schools out there, I mean its up there with UT and MIT!! I also know firsthand that our sciences are the best of the best. Id say its great for all majors and for those that love having fun!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a statue on campus that I've heard gives you goodluck on tests. I've personally been to the Hector P. Garcia statue and touched his left foot before my biology midterm and got an A so I think its a pretty awesome tradition!

    Bang for the buck

I really don't know what else to say other than this school is amazing!! Its really the best of both worlds for me because its not to far from my hometown(San Antonio Tx) but also its a great institution. My professors are fabulous and always willing to aid me in my studys, the gym here is free and awesome as well. And theres never ending activities to jump into here on campus! It feels like I'm on vacation everyday even with having homework its the best!

    What to do for fun

The BEACH duh!!!!!!!!! Just kidding but the beach is a great place to relax, have fun, and even do homework. You can however go downtown for awesome sight seeing. We have the Lexington , the Selina statue, the aquarium, waterpark, all sorts of things downtown that are fun! Theres also great sea food eating and dance places to go!

    Food and Dining

I love that we have Starbucks and Chick-fil-A on campus, I literally would eat there everyday if I had the money!

    Dorm Life

We don't call our housing dorms just for the fact that nowhere on campus housing will you have to share a community bathroom. I rated our housing unit a 5/5 stars because for one compared to my friends at UT and Texas A & M college station my room is the biggest and luxurious for less than they pay! The space alone is huge, plus its all to myself, the only thing you share is the restroom and that's still with only one other person of your same sex. So honestly its not that bad.

    Academic Rigor

Being a Biomed major I'd say trying to find time to balance school, volunteer hours, shadowing, and fun time is pretty hard. But the teachers here are amazing and as long as you make an effort they are willing to do the same.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply here ASAP!!!! Its an amazing school, its great if you aren't into huge campuses. We are small but ever expanding! Its on the beach who doesn't love that?!

    Clubs and Activities

There are an incredible amount of student organizations and activities to participate in. Do not hesitate to join one or ten! Formation of a new club or organization is fairly easy as well, so if you have a group of students interested in a certain area and there isn't a club, make your own!

Located on an island and the drive to campus takes you past the bay! Very often you can see people para-sailing and fishing right across the drive from campus. Many of the buildings are inter-connected to make traveling across campus a breeze!

    What to do for fun

The small town of Corpus Christi is ten minutes away from South Padre Island and the National Seashore. In addition, there are many museums and other attractions that make attending TAMU-CC enjoyable!

    Food and Dining

The meals offered by the university are not very good at all. However, Chik-fil-A, Subway, and Starbucks are all located on campus which tend to be where students eat most often. The university has microwave ovens available for student use which allows you to bring your own meals from home. Dining space is currently limited and difficult to find an open area during the major traffic times (11-1). Expansion of the dining area is currently underway.

    Dorm Life

3/5 stars based on word of mouth. I, personally, have never lived in the dorms on campus, so I cannot truthfully comment on this aspect of campus.

    Academic Rigor

The courses offered range widely in levels of difficulty. The courses that are known to be more difficult (as a general statement) seem to be less demanding when taken at this university. Overall, as the level (1-4000) increases, so does the academic rigor. Development of good study habits and preparation is an absolute must.

    Tips for prospective students

Be as involved as possible with campus activities and organizations - but maintain your academic priorities! Take the time to meet all of your professors by introducing yourself. Many of them, especially in the sciences, have extracurricular projects and connections that may open many doors for you to participate in, essentially making you a more marketable employee or applicant for your post-baccalaureate career.

    In three sentences

A small, intimate campus with great faculty motivated in seeing each and every student be successful. The courses offered range widely in difficulty but many of the common classes are not as difficult as they would be if taken at other universities. The university has a lot of student engagement activities to partake in and this is highly encouraged!

Greek life is not big here. I, however have joined a sorority and absolutely am in love with it.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is not too pricey and I think that I am getting a good education here.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of events on this small campus held by many of the school's organizations. Many complain that there is nothing to do, but if you really look there is plenty.

    Food and Dining

I feel like there is nothing to eat here. They do plan on building a dining hall here with more choices, but I feel like that is taking too long. I have counted, there are only 6 different places to eat, which sound like a lot at first, but after a semester, it becomes really boring. I am a girl who likes variety and this does not come close.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus, but I have seen some of the dorms here. It's nothing special. From what I have seen, they do provide microwaves, a mini fridge, a small closet, a built in desk in the wall, and a bed. Some rooms do provide a nice view of the ocean.

    Academic Rigor

Classes here are not too difficult for me, but I do see many of my classmates having trouble. So, to me, a student who took all preAP and AP classes throughout junior high and high school, all my classes seem pretty easy, but I would like to be a little more challenged. Since nursing is my major, I am excited for the more challenging courses ahead.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a prospective student, I advise that you do take a college visit here. The people who show you around are very helpful and will answer all your questions. Information is important to have when choosing any college, and like me, you should grab as much of it as you can.

Go to the beach! Go to a party! Go to one of the events at school that gives you free food! Join an organization!

    Food and Dining

The food is alright and has a good variety, but there is only one dining hall and several corner stores in certain buildings. I call them corner stores only because they are mini stores and are always on a corner. We also have Subway, Einstein's, and Starbucks make sure you check the timings for when they are open , so you won't waste your time going there. Prices are pretty good and aren't really expensive.

    Dorm Life

I don't live on dorms, but I know a few things. When it rains, it floods on campus and the dorms flood as well. You have to sign up early for dorms in order to get one and the campus cops are strict sometimes.

    Academic Rigor

The school isn't as strict, well if you don't live on dorms you don't have to worry about much. If you live on campus you may have to worry about some rules and regulations. Other than that you don't have to worry about the strict rules, this school is pretty open to students with the party lifestyle.

    Tips for prospective students

Sign up for housing extremely early if you plan on living on campus. Join a organization, because the school is pretty lame and boring, mainly because they don't have a football team here which everyone knows football brings a lot of spirit and excitement to schools even if the team sucks. Go to the clubs and parties near by you will find some cool people or maybe some psychos.

    In three sentences

TAMUCC is a boring school, but has amazing professors. You will probably receive some foreign professors, which would be troubling to understand them but for the most part there are amazing professors. The food here is pretty good, with great prices it's not too cheap, but not too expensive. The campus is pretty small if you want to live on campus and plan on going to this school sign up for housing as soon as possible, because they barely have dorms available and you may have to live at an apartment and come up with some rent every month freshman year.

Campus police do night drive thrus and are available at all hours, they are too assist if you have a late night class and rather not walk on campus by yourself. They are there to make you feel safe and comfortable, and keep you out of harms way. I appreciate the safety TAMUCC Police Department establishes on campus.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is the life for me! And you! Go Greek! I am apart of the TAMUCC Gamma Phi Chapter of Delta Delta Delta! When i was rushing i was very optimistic, it was more of a experience opportunity. I told myself that if i did not get a bid from a chapter that I still get to say that I rushed and got to see what it is about, plus I was a little distant towards the idea especially after hearing about the stereotypical background of sororities. Was I ever so wrong?! The moment I walked into the Tri Delta room I instantly clicked with the girls and they proved all my notions wrong about the stereotypes of sorority girls. Every sorority and fraternity is different at all campuses, but we go beyond the red solo cup. Joining a fraternity or sorority is an excellent way to meet people and establish life-long friendships. Each organization plans social events to strengthen friendships within the chapter and allow for social interaction with members of other groups. Having a positive social environment provides a well-rounded college experience and eases the adjustment to a new environment.Sororities and fraternities recognize the need and concern throughout the year to raise money and donate time for their special philanthropies and service projects. Often the Greek community comes together to benefit worthwhile programs, as well as sponsoring community- based programs like Habitat for Humanity. Each year, philanthropic events allow Greeks to contribute their time and effort in many ways and benefit the community by generating hundreds of hours of service and thousands of dollars in fund raising. I am so glad I ended up going through with rush and receiving a bid from Tri Delta. My sisters are my saving grace and I have grown into someone that I can be proud of. Striving to do better with my others and influences others in positive aspects. Our philanthropy is St. Jude Children's Hospital and every penny, every event we establish all proceeds go to St. Jude. The patients of St. Jude are very important to us, and that alone is our motivators. My sisters are my heart and all. Greek Life has been the best decision in my college career! No matter the differences, we are all brothers and sisters and we come together to grow our chapters and ourselves.

    What to do for fun

For fun I like to attend the school's sport events! Every Thursday, students have bonfires out at the beach it has became a TAMUCC tradition. We are called the Island university! The campus is surrounded by its own personal beach, we like to think its summer all year around until hurricane season comes around. If i'm not spending time at the beach my friends and I like to walk down Ocean Drive and check out the local places. Usually events are being held or festivals down town. If you don't mind a drive, Port A is about 30 to 40 minutes away from campus! The beach as your backyard!

    Food and Dining

Not only is there Chic-fila but the cooking staff at TAMUCC does a great job at serving students favorites and creating delicious foods! At really cheap prices and there are options there is meal plans. By using your sand-dollar you do not have to carry around cash without the fear of losing it, the sand-dollar or higher one card can be used as your typical money card.

    Dorm Life

I personally have never lived on campus, but word from close peers and friends I hear dorm life and on campus apartments are great! It is what you make it, the lifestyle teaches you either your best friend in high school is a good living partner or a bad idea. How to cope with differences of a stranger, and how you need to take after your mother's crazy cleaning habits. Living on campus benefits with travel time in between classes, the naps you will need after a long lecture and be within walking distances of all the sports games, events and your friends place!

    Academic Rigor

The past professors of mine show no problem slowing down during a class and making sure everyone understands the information being taught, and every teacher has designated office or tutoring hours to make sure that each student has the opportunity to learn a lot. Classes at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi are generally smaller then a lot of universities. There are plenty of tutoring services and each professor has many teacher assistants and graders, so there is always someone to contact in order to help learn material in case you are struggling. Some classes may be difficult but for the most part freshman year focuses on your introduction to college life

    Tips for prospective students

Soak up the sunshine, the Island way is to appreciate life around you. Do not take your education for granted, there are those who would give anything to be in those 8 am classes of yours. The quite area on the second floor of the library is never quite. You will have sand everywhere. Your books, your backpack, your clothes, hair and teeth. Hurricane season does not show mercy towards campus. Stray cats run the school but are very friendly! Revo Wednesdays are fun but your teachers still expect you in class on Thursdays. Enjoy your time at TAMUCC!

    In three sentences

I feel pretty safe on campus, you can get escorted to your car or dorm by the campus police.

    What to do for fun

There is a good deal of things to do for fun. There is a lot of campus event, and the campus theater and art department always have a show or showing, It is really close to the beach which is a blast. There is also an aquarium and lots of parks.

    Food and Dining

As of now there is okay places to eat on campus but it is very limited and fairly expensive. Though the campus is currently constructing a new dining hall which seems very promising.

    Dorm Life

The only benefit to living on campus is that you can sleep in later and don't have to drive to school. The dorms are very pricey and seem to need a lot of maintenance work. On top of that when you put in a work order is can take a while to be fixed or need a second on put in to fix the problem completely. This can be very frustrating with busy student life and the expensive price you pay. There is also a bug problem that no amount of bug spray seems to kill.

    Academic Rigor

The professors in general are very helpful in communicating with the student in order to help them be successful and learn. I feel like all the subjects are neither hard or easy depending on the individual as a person since everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.

    Tips for prospective students

Living on campus is very convenient but very expensive. It's very important to attend class. The CASA program is wonderful for helping you tutor in subjects you are struggling in and I'd highly advise all students use it.

    In three sentences

The weather is very windy but mostly nice. There is a lot of campus activities and clubs. The on campus jobs are really great with working with your schedule and a great experience.

    Campus Safety

I feel so safe on campus. There are police officers on campus, who will always walk you to your car (especially when pulling late nights at the library) and the entrance gates for campus close at 10, and everyone trying to get into campus after that time have to have a student ID or be escorted by a student.

    Clubs and Activities

We have ALLLL kinds of clubs! I am involved in 5...Texas Defense of Fins, Sea Turtle Club, Scuba Club, Vegetarian Club, and Sailing Club! We have a club for everybody.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who is looking for a balance between great academics and a fun environment!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have campus cats! There is a feral cat program on campus that takes care of them. They are all so personable and sweet!! We also set a giant I on fire for homecoming. During winter, Christmas lights are placed all around campus and we have a big festival to light them. Also, during finals, the school provides free breakfast some nights and other really awesome things.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive, no matter where you go, so...compared to other universities, I think that TAMUCC is reasonably priced and everyone is SO helpful. From financial aid advisers, academic advisers, the writing center, career services, and so much more!! Love it here!

    What to do for fun

The beach is everywhere! There are also lots of fun organizations on campus and plenty of places to volunteer and just hang out!

    Food and Dining

There is Starbucks, Chik-Fil-A, Einsteins, and Subway. Need I say more? Really, there are a lot of really yummy options on campus! Including an awesome salad bar!

    Dorm Life

Dorms aren't the best, but they also aren't required. There is PLENTY of off campus housing that is reasonable in price and location.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are very informative, but not unbearable. Commit yourself to your grades, study, and take advantage of all the resources provided.

    Tips for prospective students

Take the bus! Parking is awful, parking passes are expensive, and the bus is easy and convenient!

    In three sentences

I love TAMUCC! There are great opportunities for all majors and there are so many resources to ensure you do well in school and once you graduate.

    What to do for fun

The Starbucks is the biggest perk on campus, I make sure to at least go once a week!

    Food and Dining

They have many dining options on campus for a variety of different food. TAMUCC is building a new dining hall which should make the dining experience even better!

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging, but if you study and take note you should be just fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Always get to school a little early to park. On the first day of class go early enough to find where your class is and check online the night before to make sure that the classroom hasn't been switched.

    In three sentences

I have had a wonderful experience at TAMUCC. It has helped me get to where I needed to go and has made the transition from high school to college a breeze. I would recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a fun small university.

    Campus Safety

The safety on Ward Island is phenomenal because we have so many campus cops, that do an excellent job. They are very nice and considerate.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a lot of clubs and activities which I am sure anyone can find their place in one.

    What to do for fun

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has a bunch of fun things to do, there is multiple clubs you can join, as well as the beach. Now that it is getting warmer you can go swimming or kayaking in the ocean when the tides are down. Or you can go downtown and walk the beach line.

    Food and Dining

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has a couple of fast food restaurants on campus which are very good, including Subway, and Chick-fil-a. They also have a Starbucks right my the library which is awesome!

    Dorm Life

I am currently living on campus in one of their many apartments. I am sharing my apartment with 3 other ladies. Everything is excellent, but there is a constant bug problem as well as pricey, which is why I took off a star.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is influentially, and very helpful on teaching us students to use our brains on complex, and contentious concepts.

    Tips for prospective students

The tips I would give for prospective students is to show up to class no matter what. Always read the chapters. Pay close attention to your professors because they will help you.

    In three sentences

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is an excellent college because they offer so much help to the students. They help you with anything like academic problems, health problems, and general advice. It really is a great school to intend because of it being a smaller school, with all the great professors, and advisers.

    Food and Dining

There is many options to choose from and the areas are very clean. You can from eating inside to outside from a dish that is common to one so rare. It is very diverse.

    Dorm Life

From what I was told there were more people living off campus than on, but I really do not understand why. The campus is just a place you would love to stay at. Then there is the fact there is more females than males.

    Academic Rigor

From what I can tell the students and teacher were there to do what they were suppose to do. The classrooms where not humongous, but not to small. You would feel just right.

    In three sentences

The school is very beautiful and has a relaxed atmosphere. I knew from when I first walked in this this was my dream college. Everyone is very nice and supportive they are a true living example of a family.

    Campus Safety

The campus is pretty safe and take safety seriously especially in the labs. If you live on campus after 10 p.m you have to present your San dollar are the gate and swipe it to get in and are many cops driving or sitting around the dorms and apartments.

    What to do for fun

For a small city you are limited but there are fun things to do and places to go such as of course the beach and pool with friends. There are also many places to go to such as local restaurants, the mall, bowling,Hurricane Alley Water Park, night clubs such as Ropers, If of age many bars to go to such as Izzys. There even some things to do on campus such as hitting the gym, intramural sports and even classes to help you stay fit.

    Food and Dining

I normally do eat much at the cafeteria but from what I had in the past the food is pretty good. The campus even offers Chick fil a, Subway, Einsteins and Starbucks and are currently building a dining hall.

    Dorm Life

I currently live off campus but I did live on campus for my first two years of my college life. The pros about living on campus is that everything is there the gym, library, post office, don't have to drive to school and have the hassle of finding parking and of course being able to roll out of bed late and still be on time to class. You meet a lot of people and experience a lot of crazy and funny things while living on campus. Cons about living on campus is that Its small living space and is over priced and now students that live on campus are required to have meal plan which adds on to the cost of school. I always had problems with appliances and even bug infestations. Parking is even limited.

    Academic Rigor

All the classes range differently. You will have your very easy classes and the very challenging classes. It pretty much depends on you study habits and if you are paying attention in class. A lot of the professors are not that strict or mean like as we are told in high school , I mean you may get that one professor that can be but overall I have gotten some pretty nice and laid back professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to college with a positive attitude and ready to study a whole lot. Keep yourself from stressing out by making time for your friends, exercise, and of course go to the beach and relax by the pool. Take advantage of the tutoring such as CASA and SI. I recommend to rent books from the off campus Islander bookstore or even online from Chegg and Amazon and buy books if you plan on using them again.

    In three sentences

TAMUCC is a nice school to attend and is an overall and enjoyable college experience. Its one of the cheaper schools to attend, can be very relaxing due to the beach, its easy to navigate yourself around campus and is hard to get lost. The professors are willing to help if you show that you care in class. If you have trouble with a particular class there are resources such as CASA and SI sessions that are there to help you with the course if you are having trouble and they can be very helpful!

    Campus Safety

Extremely safe. We have actual police officers on campus, not just security guards, and they're on campus 24 hours a day 365 days a year. They're in cars, on bikes, in the library, all for your safety. I've always felt safe walking to my car at night. They have little poles everywhere that you can push a button if you feel unsafe for some reason, after 10:30 nobody can come into the resident halls/apartments without the campus ID card (sanddollar), also nobody can even get in to the dorm buildings without a sanddollar linked to that building. Super super safe. :)

    Greek Life

I'm not involved in the Greek Life, but for a school our size, it's actually really prevalent here. They're all very nice too, and have changed my view on Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

We have everything from the scuba diving club to the sky diving club. So much stuff to get involved in, and over 150+ clubs, more being created every year by students. :)

Great for these types of students

Outgoing, loves the beach/outdoors, looking to go to a smaller campus and want a more personal approach to their education, ect.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our homecoming is in February, since we don't have football. Theres a statue of Hector P. Garcia in a plaza named after him on campus and for good luck every semester during finals you can touch his foot lol!

    Bang for the buck

I think its definitely worth the money. It's a relatively cheap school (I mean, think how much you save in comparison to going to UT or A&M) and you get a stellar education. We have so much stuff to offer, I mean, we have one of the best nursing programs in the US, if you're in the science field you can get involved in undergraduate research! Something that is so rare/almost unheard of at other universities because they're so much bigger! We keep it very personal here, so you really get to know your professor.

    What to do for fun

The beach of course?! There are always bonfires going on, as well as campus events. I'm gonna admit, the campus beach is pretty from a distance but its not something you want to swim in. If you take a 15-20 min drive to some of our nice beaches (Mustang, JP Luby, North Padre, ect) you'll have so much fun. Or, take a 30 min drive out to Port Aransas! Art Walks the first Friday of every month, farmers markets, certain clubs (if you're into that, that's more of a sorority/frat scene), all sorts of stuff.

    Food and Dining

Let me explain my rating. I have a food allergy, so I can't eat wheat, and there were little to no options for me to eat on campus. When I was there last year, they didn't have a whole lot of options, but they just recently build a new dining hall that seems to have a lot of promise.

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus my first semester, in their residential halls, which are simply dorms. They also have apartments on campus, if that interests yu. They're very nice, because you don't share a community bathroom.. you share it with one other person, at most. I had my own room, and so did my roommate, and our rooms were connected by a bathroom. We just shared a shower and toilet. We had our own personal sinks (which had a TON of counter space). I think its a GREAT thing to live on campus your first year, because you can adjust to college easier by not having to find parking and just walking to class. Also, there's a washer/dryer and kitchen on every floor of your dorm building. Nobody ever really uses the kitchens, and they are cleaned daily (minus weekends) so you can cook meals in there! Camden Miramar, who owns the dorms/apartments on campus, has all sorts of events so they make living on campus fun! I would rate all 5 stars, but my dorm room had a couple of minor problems and it was pretty expensive.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend Island Day! It's the school preview day, where they do fun stuff and give you a campus tour. I'm a tour guide for the school, so I work at every Island Day and help prospective students like you! It's fun, and you get a free t-shirt.

    In three sentences

Surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi provides a positive and upbeat learning environment. You are not only living on a beautiful campus, you're earning an amazing education while doing so. Overall, it's a fantastic school to be at.

    What to do for fun

I have a couple of friends who attend school down there and they are never bored. They have an aquarium, museums (which students can get in for free), the beach (of course!), surfing, skydiving, dancing, you name it.

    In three sentences

Nice environment. Laid back vibe. If you want to focus on school it seems like a good, non-stressful choice.

    Campus Safety

There is a full police department on campus just a call away. They are more than willing to walk you back to your dorm late at night. In order to get into the dorm buildings, you have to swipe an ID card, so this campus is very safe.

    Greek Life

I haven't been personally involved, but some of friends say its like any other campus.

    Clubs and Activities

    So many to choose from.

Great for these types of students

People who like wind and being out in nature and who enjoy the beach.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A glow party for the freshman where they wear headphones.

    Bang for the buck

    Shops on campus are expensive.

    What to do for fun

Taking a walk on the beach and hanging out with friends are some of my favorite past times. The beach is so peaceful and my friends are fun to hang out with.

    Food and Dining

They just opened up a new dining hall. Many varieties to choose from. Great food and comfortable seating arrangements.

    Dorm Life

On-campus dorms are close-ish to the rest of the campus. Walls are kind of thin, but just like any other dorm- style housing.

    Academic Rigor

Professors know their material and most teach it well.

    Tips for prospective students

FINANCIAL AID! Take advantage of the scholarships and all the free money you can. Also the communication (mainly email) with different departments are kind of slow.

    In three sentences

This campus has a great view of the beach and is a pretty cool campus. Many opportunities to get involved and very accommodating people. Comfortable and safe campus as well.

    Campus Safety

The University has good precautions but you can never be too careful. There are police officers on sight if you ever needed their assistance. I have never felt in danger on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are cats everywhere! Have no idea why but people can go right up to them and pet them, they have made campus their home.

    What to do for fun

The campus is literally on it's own island so we have water right in our back yard. Students can explore the Gulf all they want. The city of Corpus Christi can seem pretty dead but if you explore and dig under the surface you can find some really fun stuff in the city.

    Food and Dining

We have a subway, Starbucks, food truck and a new dining hall. I do not have a meal plan so I have not tried out the dinning hall but it's nice to have a few other options for lunch. It can get a little tiring and expensive to eat from campus so I suggest if possible pack your own lunch for the day.

    Dorm Life

I currently do not live in the dorms so I can't rate them. From what I hear they are nice and the campus continues to expand the dorms for the increasing population.

    Academic Rigor

I am taking some higher level classes at the moment. You need to give yourself the time and energy for your classes because they do require a lot of reading and critical thinking. It is very easy to get behind so keep up and do your best.

    Tips for prospective students

The weather is usually hot year round so shorts are more then welcome here. Don't be afraid to make new friends. Everyone is a little shy but join an organization or two, friendships are made that way all the time. And above all have fun, it is collage after all!

    In three sentences

The University has beautiful scenery and feels small enough not to be overwhelmed with everything going on. The professors are very kind and approachable. There are usually a lot of activities to participate in so you can have a real social life outside of the classroom.
