Great for these types of students

Coming from Overlea high school, with an 3.2gpa it was hard getting into a four year college, because of my SAT scores were low. So CCBC has absolutely helped me focus on my goals and career which is Art Therapy.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is defintily where you want to be; if you want to save money, transfer to a four year college, and if your not sure of what you want to do in life.

    Bang for the buck

CCBC is very affordable, and can help you save some of your money rather than being in debt, and they also have great payment plans.

    Am enjoying being here

So far i am enjoying being here, i am not a the actuall campus but being at one of the centers is a boon for me, because its closer to my home and job.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot, at this school, its pretty cool.

    In three sentences

so far at ccbc it has been a great experience for me meeting new people from different countries and cultures. i like this school i'm glad i attend this school because of the class size is small and more easier to learn from the professor's. also, the professor's help you understand the course you will be taking up and make sure you are getting the information of class work assigned.

    Campus Safety

ccbc essex has public safety, a hospital not even a mile away. also they have those blue emergency consoles with a button you can press if you are indeed in an emergency!

    Greek Life

    none

    Clubs and Activities

they have a masssive array of clubs to join.

Great for these types of students

this is great for people who are not sure what they want to do with school yet and want to get the basics out of the way.

    Bang for the buck

over all it is a cheap school. the only thing that would denote from it would be the handful of bad advisers and teachers. but those can be overcome by finding tutors or a better adviser.

    What to do for fun

i like that on friday around noon they sometimes have music recitals you may go to at the essex campus in the e building.

    Food and Dining

there isn't to much food options to chose from ccbc at the essex location. though in it's defense, there is a mall, and some small little restaurants near by.

    Dorm Life

    no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

some classes are fun and challenging. most psych teachers and bio teachers are fun and engaging.

    Tips for prospective students

if you have a bad teacher, try to get out of it early on or transfer to a different class.

    In three sentences

ccbc isn't a bad school, it's great if you want to knock out your prerequisites. but as warning, there are some teachers that are not fit to be teaching there. the only major difficulty is talk to an advisor to get transfer information; though if you have problems there are a small group of knowledgeable adviser's.

    What to do for fun

there are many activities that students can participate in such as student life, athletics and the arts and drama programs.

    Food and Dining

food and dining depended on which campus you were taking your classes at. ccbc has many locations but i honestly believe that the best campus is ccbc essex.

    Dorm Life

since ccbc is a two year school dorm life was not accessible.

    Academic Rigor

i would say the difficulty of the class depends on you and the teacher teaching it. if you already know that you are not usually successful in a specific subject than some required classes may be more difficult than others. also, there are a few teachers that make assignments and communication very difficult but i strongly believe that is the case in every college.

    Tips for prospective students

the number one tip i would give to prospective students is do not treat it like it is still high school. the only similarity is that everything you do from the beginning of your first class until you graduate affects you in every way. aim high and remain focused on your initial goals. if you are attending with the intent of receiving your associates degree, than keep striving for it. never get side tracked by things that do not help you get to where you are headed.

    In three sentences

ccbc is a communty college that allows young adults and returning students the opportunity to better themselves academically. i personally have learned a lot about myself while being at this school. it does not fit the usual 13th grade stereotype because it gives you a chance to grow up before entering into what i call the real world or a four year university.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for anyone who wants to save money, earn an associates degree, transfer to a four year school in Maryland, change and improve their academic habits, continue their education, or learn for fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your work and go to class! Many of my peers who are having trouble in classes simply aren't trying. In order to learn, one has to go to class, listen to lectures, read the textbook, and turn in all the projects on time. Most of the teachers are very helpful if you are willing to work for the grade.

    Bang for the buck

The only thing that is discounted at CCBC is the tuition. Why waste thousands of dollars anywhere else? CCBC offers a variety of classes and has many services to help you with your educational planning, career planning, and student life activites.

    Am enjoying being here

CCBC does not offer the college experience like other schools might. There are no dorms. Personally I have fun with other students with no problem. It's easy to commute here and have fun in between classes. There are always events going on whether it be a play or performance or a visiting speaker or a meeting on the community book connection.

    Am learning a lot

It's amazing how much you learn in one lecture. No time is ever wasted. I am particularly satisfied with the Honors Program here which is intellectually stimulating and challenging.

Great for these types of students

Students who are used to small class sizes, like a more personable environment, students who have other commitments outside of school, people who would like to travel because they offer online courses, etc

    Tips for prospective students

Use your resources, that's what your tuition is paying for. (Example: academic advisors, website, blackboard, etc)

    Bang for the buck

You get a good quality education, and you get actual knowledge and not just get pushed through because you showed up to class. The professors make an effort to ensure that every student is keeping up. And I mean it's pretty cheap, especially if your lucky enough to get a pell grant.

    Am enjoying being here

I like it here better than I like it at university I attended prior. It's easier to keep up with, the professors are more accessible and personable. They really want to help you succeed even if you don't want to help yourself.

    Am learning a lot

I can honestly say that all the resources you need to be successful are readily available to you here at ccbc, either online or on campus you just have to know how to access them, and thats what the advisors and the professors are therefore, or you can access this information on theirsite which is pretty easy to navigate

Great for these types of students

This school is great for programs that are not commonly found or for students who are trying to get a college education but need something affordable as well as away from Baltimore City.

    Tips for prospective students

If this seems like the college of your choice, my advice to you is to come prepared. Make sure that you know what you want and stay determined to make sure that you get it. The campus is large, make sure you get a map and what each building offers.

    Bang for the buck

With the new laws put into place the tuition has decreased making it affordable. I know my tuition has decreased at least five hundred dollars. With it's wide array of programs you will surely find what you want and be able to pay for it.

    Will enjoy being here

I'm excited at the prospect of being professionally educated in the Interpreter program since i know signs from my mother. I've had to move into the area but it is a beautiful area.

    Will learn a lot

This school offers programs not found elsewhere for example, the Interpreter Preparation program can only be found in this school in the state of Maryland. This school is great since it offers specialized programs with great instructors.

Great for these types of students

CCBC is a perfect match for any college bound student that wants to save lots of money, parents and full-time workers that want to continue their education, high school students that may not have performed well while in high school, and soldiers returning and wanting to get an education.

    Tips for prospective students

CCBC is a great stepping stone for 4 year institutions. My view is if you cannot make it at a two year, than the chances of being successful at a four year goes down. So go into every class ready to learn, and ready to achieve. If you go into any class thinking that you do not need to try, than you are just preventing yourself from reaching your potential.

    Bang for the buck

It just makes sense to choose CCBC. If you are a student that is paying for your tuition then $6,000 a year compared to $30,000 at a 4 year; the winner is obvious.

    Did enjoy being here

I did enjoy CCBC, minus some of the students who did not take their education seriously. They didn't mind skipping class, or being noisy in the library, or disrupting your class just to hold their conversations.

    Did learn a lot

The myth that community college are not up to par with 4 year schools is completly fabricated. All the course material was the same. As a biology major, corners cannot be cut. And in no way do I feel like they were.

Under this program, I would like to begin my core classes such as English and Math at CCBC to gain the experiences toward my career goal of becoming a pediatrician.

    Campus Safety

They have emergency phone polls around campus that will send you to any public safety officer that will find you. The officers are on segways and on foot to watch out for any problems on campus. There is also a Campus alert system that will call your house and cell phone and send you an email about any suspicious activities on or near campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many that it's hard to keep up. There's Barnstormers, the International Club, the Multicultural Club, Anime Club, Aviation Club, the Honors Program, Christian Fellowship, Fine Print (the literary magazine), Medieval and Fantasy Society, and plenty more. There's also Lacrosse and Track and Field.

Great for these types of students

For students who went to Otakon or just love anime, there is an anime club. The Barnstormers club is good for those who love acting and socializing. The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is good for students seeking a challenge and who want to explore all educational opportunities available. Students who need extra money can apply for fall and spring work study. There are on site and off site job opportunities.

    What to do for fun

They have many clubs and an Honor Society called Phi Thetta Kapa. The Barnstormers is a theater club that has a lot of improvisation activities and events that the whole campus can join into. The Barn has many events like its most recent blood drive and Multicultural presentations on Cuba and Malcolm X.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafe in the new library (Building Y) and another in the K building near the Bookstore and Financial Aid office. There are plenty of vending machines and microwaves around campus. The food in the cafe is sold at a decent price but it could use a little variety. There are plenty of coffee flavor options including the season's Pumpkin Spice flavor which I love!

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on campus but CCBC helped create a new bus route with MTA called the 99 that takes people to and from the school starting from the BWI Airport and ending at Old Court Subway Station. It takes the highway from Catonsville to Security to make the route faster. It's preferred over the 77 bus route that doesn't take the highway.

    Academic Rigor

Many professors use Blackboard: an online grade book and assignment book that allows you to create discussion boards, email your teachers, and complete quizzes and tests for practice. It is an okay source but doesn't always work well and only works with certain browsers. If you're not up-to-date with technology and keeping up

    Tips for prospective students

Coming to CCBC will help you practice building relationships with your professors and learning how to speak up and stand out. Take advantages of the resources at CCBC. They have the writing center for proofreading papers and the Student Success center for tutoring and advice.

    In three sentences

This college helps students transition from high school or the work force into a fast paced college level environment. It helps students get involved with its bulletin boards all over campus showing exciting events and continues to keep students updated on transfer opportunities. I recommend CCBC to anyone trying to gather funds, credits, or good study habits.

    What to do for fun

On campus, there are a variety of groups and clubs which truly encompass every interest. There is always something going on, whether it be a showing of a film, a guest speaker, or other various events throughout the semester. As far as off-campus activities, the school is located about twenty minutes from Baltimore City, where there is an endless variety of restaurants, shops, museums, theaters, parks, and other activities to keep restless college students entertained.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is fairly small, but offers a wide variety of food for every interest. As someone who tries to eat healthy and avoid junk food, I've never had problem finding a healthy snack, like hummus with vegetables, or ordering a healthy lunch, like a fresh veggie wrap. The seating area in the cafe is spacious, and I've never had trouble finding a seat, even at very busy times.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are not available at CCBC Essex.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at CCBC depend largely on student effort, as students will surely reap as many benefits from the class as the effort that they put in. Honors classes at CCBC require particular rigor, and are a welcome challenge to students who enjoy discussion-based classes and experience-based projects.

    Tips for prospective students

Become familiar with as many helpful resources as early as possible. These include the advising lab, writing center, tutoring center, etc. Take a tour of the campus, as it is bigger than people first realize and will help students become more comfortable. Don't be afraid to consult teachers for help, as each teacher is willing to get to know and help a student on a personal level.

    In three sentences

I've attended CCBC Essex for the past four semesters and have had a great experience with teachers and faculty alike. I plan on transferring to a four-year school next Fall, and everyone I've encountered for assistance has been nothing but helpful, supportive, and patient with the process. I've been able to take a variety of classes that both suit my major as well as interest me, at a manageable and affordable cost.

    Clubs and Activities

They have many Clubs and Activities that they have around campus that interact with the students they have selected days where you can visit and see all of the clubs that ccbc has to offer right now it is over 30 different clubs.

Great for these types of students

For the type of student who still wants a good education but dose not want to pay the university rates for the first two years of their education.

    Bang for the buck

For it being a community college and for the cheapness of it you really do get allot of value for going to the school.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of clubs to join there as well as things to do. You can also go on trips and study abroad for very low rates compared to other colleges that are in the area.

    Food and Dining

The food is alright but the main place that all of the students go to is the cafe area which is down stairs from the new library the food is tailored for chipotle and panera bread consumers.

    Campus Safety

I have never heard of any crimes being committed on campus and I feel pretty safe while roaming the campus! The only thing I will warn about is that there needs to be more lights on campus at night, because it is very dark and I have talked to many students who don't feel safe leaving there classes at night because it is so poorly lit outside.

    Clubs and Activities

They offer Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Football, Volleyball, Swimming, and Track Running.

Great for these types of students

It's great for students who don't like huge class sizes. Most of the classes have somewhere around 30 students or less. Also great for students who are really into sports because CCBC offers almost every sport you can think of.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The only unusual thing on campus would be the Volleyball area that is basically in the middle of the campus, but I think that's a nice addition and something fun for students to do between classes.

    Bang for the buck

Due to the fact that this is a Community College you pay per class and it is really a great deal! The teachers work very hard and you definitely will leave each class knowing the subject matter inside and out. The campus is also basically spotless so i would say you're getting a great deal.

    What to do for fun

CCBC has many outdoor activities you can do for fun! They have a Volleyball area filled with sand, Baseball field, Tennis court, Running Track, and a forestry area with a walking trail that goes through it. They also have fun indoor activities like a Basketball Court, Indoor Track, Swimming Pool and Computers all over the campus that can be used by students at anytime.

    Food and Dining

CCBC had a very convenient Cafe and an outdoor and indoor area with tables to sit and eat your lunch. The food was a good price and the quality of the food was above average in my opinion. Everything was fresh which was a nice surprise considering what most cafeteria foods are like.

    Dorm Life

This does not apply to this college because it is is Community College so there were no Dormitories.

    Academic Rigor

I would say that CCBC was about average when it came to Academic Rigor. Every class I took we learned what we needed to learn and got tested on those subjects, but the students weren't really pushed to a vigorous level. Don't get me wrong, you do learn what you need to learn and you will have assignments and tests but I wouldn't say the classes go above and beyond when it comes to the academic material.

    Tips for prospective students

The first thing I would advise new students to do is to go to the campus once you get your schedule and see where all your classes are because the campus is fairly large with multiple different buildings and you wont want to be searching all around for your class the first day of school. Also, use blackboard as often as you can! It is CCBC's website for teachers and students and your classes will be listed and you can go into each class and find your upcoming assignments, class messages, and and a student emailing service. The final advice would be to use the Academic Advising services if you need it because they want to help you and work very hard to do whatever they can do!

    In three sentences

The Community College of Baltimore County not only met my expectations, but it went above and beyond! All of the teachers and workers are very professional and helpful to new students and that is very important to a college's success. On top of that the campus is very clean and easy to navigate, but the only negative there are not nearly enough lights outside at night.

    In three sentences

The Community College of Baltimore County is an excellent institute of higher learning for graduating high schoolers, and for older students who are furthering their education after having worked or raised a family. The classes are small enough that I feel comfortable asking questions when I don't understand, and in many cases, the professors can tell I'm at a loss simply based on the expression on my face. For the small size of the college, the level of diversity is unmatched.
