Categories Comments Great for these types of students Juilliard is a great match for dedicated and diligent musicians, actors and dancers. I would not recommend it for those who do not exhibit a strong passion for art and knowledge, a desire for challenge and competition and a long history of practicing good and sustainable technique in their chosen art forms.
Tips for prospective students Visit and make sure that you know what the school stands for! Furthermore, make sure that you are prepared to apply and (potentially) audition with repertoire that conforms to Juilliard's requirements and aspirations that meet its expectations. Know what you're going in for; I have encountered many people who either (A) thought that they were interested in Juilliard before really delving into its background and expectations or (B) applied to Juilliard with unrealistic expectations of their own abilities and were denied. Go for it; I believe that it is a fantastic school that deserves its renown and more! But thinking realistically about yourself and your prospective schools is essential to the pre-college process. Also, be willing to spend a lot of money on your education there, should you get in.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Going to school in Manhattan requires a solid campus security system.
Greek Life You're going to a dance conservatory, so none whatsoever.
Clubs and Activities There are a wide range of clubs and activities (more so activities than clubs), that range from social dances to movie nights.
Great for these types of students If you have a solid ballet technique and are a mover, you can do this! Confidence, individuality, and maturity is what you need to get through that audition.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus For some reason facebook is super important to have before coming here and there's this initiation which is very secretive up to when you get here.
Bang for the buck Definitely!
What to do for fun New York City is the mecca for art in the U.S. So really everything.
Food and Dining It's not that great, but you'll learn to love it due to the City having ridiculously expensive food.
Dorm Life You're in the middle of Manhattan, so it's hard to complain.
Academic Rigor With the ability to cross-register at Columbia, the academics are actually not as diluted as most applicants think. It's a solid program; the academic rigor is definitely complimentary to the training, however, and you really need to be ok with that to be content here.
Tips for prospective students For your essay and audition, don't act like you want to go to Juilliard. Write and dance as if you GO to Juillliard, whatever that means to you. I feel the faculty wants to see that you intuitively belong here.
In three sentences Juilliard is for young artists who know they want to change the world with dance, music, or theatre as their tool to do so. Don't let the mystique or prestige fool you; it's really just a school. But with that in mind, the level of talent that is here in the heart of New York is beyond inspiring.
