    Tips for prospective students

DON'T TAKE ANY ONLINE COURSES!!! If you live close by and can afford it I would highly recommending spending the extra cash or scholarship on dorming!!! It is a great experience

    Bang for the buck

College is never cheap but I think pricing is decent since im paying about 11,000 a year for everything (meal plan, dorming, and tuition and other college fees)

    Am enjoying being here

Great campus atmosphere I love all the friendship and networking I have done over the past year and has a great gym!

    Am learning a lot

Great Teachers (only one crazy teacher yet haha) and in addition to great courses I have had many so many life changes experiences I really couldn't explain in this box

Great for these types of students

UNCG is great for students who are looking to learn a lot and exert themselves in order to receive a great education. There is everything one could hope for in a college and more. UNCG is a very laid-back yet extremely prestigious university and most who come fall in love with it and couldn't dream of going elsewhere.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to deal with a parking nightmare, one of the first things you will learn should you attend, is that the parking situation here is the only bad thing about UNCG.

    Bang for the buck

A great University education, plus many more opportunities that aren't offered anywhere else in the state, such as the study abroad program and International Student exchange. UNCG has more to offer at a lower cost than any other university in the state.

    Am enjoying being here

Social life and college life around UNCG is great there are many things going on all the time. In between the nationally ranked soccer team and the new UNCG home court located at the Greensboro Coliseum, athletic events are always a site to see. There are many local restaurants and hangouts in and around campus such as Yum-Yums, known for their famous hot dogs and ice cream. Also the Old Town Draught House and Jacks Corner are excellent places to eat. Again, the campus is beautiful.

    Am learning a lot

When you attend the University of North Carolina Greensboro, the first thing that will strike you is the beautiful campus. The second thing is the immense amount of knowledge and care the professors share with the students. UNCG is lucky to have such an amazing staff and excel in educating many fields. The Nursing, Education, and Business programs are especially strong. It is ranked in the Forbes Best 600 Universites in America.

Great for these types of students

Any and all types of students. The diversity of people here is great.

    Tips for prospective students

1)If you are worried about making friends join a residential college. There are many at UNCG. FYE, Warren-Ashby, Live Learn and many more. They provide opportunties for making friends and also gives you more access to help for classes. 2)If you are having problems with your roommate talking to them is the best way. 3)If you are struggling there are always someone to help you in every subject. Don't be afraid to ask. 4)Get involved any way you can. It looks great on your resume, it gives you a chance to make a difference on campus and you can make many friends.

    Bang for the buck

Double majoring is the best way to get more for your money. Try to choose majors that are close together so they can be coordinated better. The dorms are Ok. I stayed in the highrises. The only issue I have ever had with the highrises is the noise. It is not to bad but it can be quite annoying at times. The best dorms are Ragsdale and Phillip/HawkinsThe food in the Cafe is not the best. It is buffet style with grills and stations around the edges. If you can be patient and wait in line at the grills and stations the food is pretty good. Not to mention the desert bar.

    Am enjoying being here

During the week the campus is busy and there are many things to do but on weekends students (including myself) goes home. Even though there are many things around to do such as the nearby Four Seasons Mall, resturantsI and the many movie theaters it all cost money and most college students like myself are completely broke. If you find the right people to hang out with weekends can be a blast.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are great. I have not had a class Ive hated. The Classical Studies department is excellent. Never a dull moment with those professors. Professors are usually very understanding to those who are actively trying in the class. They will help you when you ask. If students are having trouble with a class there are free tutoring, a speaking center, writing center and a 24/7 library all on campus. Help is always at you finger tips. You just have to ask.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety improves every year and once you start living on or near campus, you become accustomed to which areas make you feel comfortable and which do not. UNCG Police Department improves drastically every year, especially with their feature of after-hours escort services and Blue Light emergency posts on virtually every corner for convenience and safety!

    Greek Life

Not all Greek Life is the same general stereotype people think of when Greek Life comes to mind. Each sorority and fraternity is different and they each have different motives and ways. Some are parties, others are purely academic, and others are good-mannered, highly recognized sororities and fraternities that gain high recognition for personal development and growth throughout college years.

    Clubs and Activities

Opportunistic, so take advantage of the ones that interest you now, and also explore to new clubs and activities to broaden your horizons! All are low cost or free usually to join and you make tighter friendships and establish unique relationships with people you meet through a unified interest!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Look into Humans versus Zombies nationwide collegiate game of Nerf gun tag. On warm Friday nights on the front lawn of the student center, many students from every clique of campus gather to play freeze-tag with each other under this well-lit grassy patch of campus! Start your own games too! Other students also organize Nerf Capture the Flag games on the golf-course, Foust Park, and other places on campus!

    Bang for the buck

Tate Street Coffee on Tate Street is worth the seven minute walk from the Starbucks in the Student Center because they offer coffee and espresso products, sandwiches, pastries and other beverages for at least half the price of Starbucks. Tate Street Coffee is also the hot spot coffee shop for UNCG students, faculty, and other members of the community and they also offer jazz night, poetry meetings, and is a great place to meet up with someone without that awkward feeling! Jake's Billiards up Spring Garden is a cheap and highly welcoming place for students now that their expansion and redecorating welcomes students of all ages and types for billiards, ping pong, darts, music, socializing, and dining! Also, feel free to take a bus down Spring Garden Street to get to Lost Ark Video Games where they not only sell used video games of every single console, used and new vinyls, and gaming accessories, but they also have quite an assortment of vintage pinball machines, arcade games (old and new) for cheaper than Celebration Station! Yum Yum Ice Cream parlor sits right on campus and has been here for almost 100 years serving the community cheap yet award-winning ice creams, award-winning hot dogs, as well as other beverages and foods for your choosing. Yum Yum's forever has a spot on UNCG's cultural identity!

    What to do for fun

Club sports like Fencing Club, Ultimate Frisbee, Swimming, Rugby, and even Quidditch! UNCG has a club sport for almost anything and it's easy to also start your own club sport if you have a great idea! Student Government is a great organization to delve yourself into for at least a year because you learn about the happenings on campus and you are exposed to how much the administration, faculty, and students actually work to improve campus and meet students needs! Student Government is the most networking-savvy organization to be a part of and it also offers free courses and opportunities to improve your leadership skills. Lastly, there is a club/organization for anything and everything, even for those who, maybe like you, like to secretly play video games or go on weekly bike rides!

    Food and Dining

Campus Dining Services have a lot to offer, more than just cafeteria food. There are many different food establishments in the student center and on the boundaries of campus that offer satisfying yet healthy options for dining because on campus, healthy options are not always offered. Campus Dining Services also offers part-time positions for learning the in's and out's of services and food preparation and you also get discounts!

    Dorm Life

I never lived in a dorm, I commuted my freshman year 30 minutes each way, and my sophomore and junior year I lived in an apartment off campus (which is cheaper than dorm life). I recommend being in a dorm your freshman year and not rooming with people you already know for this reason: you make friendships with your neighbors and roommate. You discover the kind of person you are when you are on your own: you find out whether you're a really clean person when you're not at your parents house, or you discover that you are rather outgoing and adventurous, and/or you also grow into a more responsible person by learning time and money management on your own. Do not bring your car to campus.

    Academic Rigor

Exams are hard for the most part. Study habits and routines will need to be different for each class you take. Professors don't hold hands and most take attendance which account for whether they keep you in their class or not (aka: fail a class!) So go to class!

    Tips for prospective students

Your study habits from high school are no good in college! Find out what kind of environment in which you study best (ie. noisy and inspiring, quite and dull, a library, a coffee shop, outside, or in solitude). Knowing the environment in which you can concentrate and focus is a valuable tip because it will be where you go when you know you need to get something done! Also, join organizations, club sports, explore academic clubs: they help to point you in the direction of finding out what kind of career, lifestyle, and interests best fit you.

    In three sentences

UNC Greensboro is a very diverse school in a positive light. Because this school is so diverse, I have so many more opportunities I feel open to exploring rather than feeling the pressure of needing to be a part of something. Being a UNCG Spartan has widened my future and given me above excellent education to carry me through to beginning my career!

Great for these types of students

Having the most diverse student population in the UNC system, UNCG is great for anyone interested in coming here. Not too-small or not too-big, students could get from one side of the campus to the other in no time. Greensboro is a great town overall, and UNCG is simply amazing. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend to completed their FAFSA application ASAP. This truly helps you if you need financial aid. UNCG is great by giving away scholarships, but the student must show that they want it.

    Bang for the buck

Comparing tuition to other UNC systems, UNCG offers a fair price to it's students. There are different meal plans that a student could apply for, and even different living arrangements that may vary prices. UNCG has a lot to offer for it's students, and the price of it all comes very affordable.

    Am enjoying being here

What I love about UNCG is that there are many different clubs that are available. A student just needs to look for what they truly love. It is not difficult to be part of a club and maintain your grades at UNCG. As a matter of fact, being part of a club will make you become a better student. Being only a freshman at college, I already am a student leader at the Associated Campus Ministries. Seeing how much I love being part of this program, I always strive to be a better student.

    Am learning a lot

Being part of the Grogan College Living Learning community, I have learned a lot about my major with my fellow classmates. There are many different living communities available at UNCG that a student may apply for if they do desire. I highly recommend being in one as it is a great way to meet people within your major, build strong relationships with them, and even tons of educational help from your fellow classmates.

Great for these types of students

UNCG is known for it's arts and nursing program. Having been a major in the arts previously, I can voucher for this. The professors push students into thinking in new, successful ways about the world to approach design projects in ways they never thought possible. I also have two good friends in the nursing program who enjoy themselves although it is difficult. All in all, UNCG would be a great niche for anybody because this school has a lot to offer.

    Tips for prospective students

Generally speaking, if one is planning on attending any college, whether it be UNCG or others, they need to be prepared for the work load. It is not impossible or scary, but it does not take long for a GPA to suffer due to laziness.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love UNCG. It is an absolutely gorgeous campus with some sort of event always going on. THe majority of the students are friendly which makes it easy to meet new people and establish one's niche of friends.

    Am learning a lot

In all of my classes thus far, there has been at least one thing I have been able to pull out from my classes and carry with me to apply to real world situations. In the classroom, the professors strive to ensure that their students understand the material being taught.

Great for these types of students

It will be best for you to research the school and determine if UNCG is for you. I am unable to provide this information I have never attended the school or visited the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

COMPLETE THAT FAFSA EARLY!!!! This will help a lot if you want scholarship money. Also research the school in depth. Any school's website is available to serve a purpose for you. It gives you great information from your application status, the type of students they are looking for, to financial information such as scholarships and deadlines.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to the tuition at Pfeiffer, UNCG costs less and they have a lot of scholarships that students can apply for. But all students considering UNCG and its scholarships should complete their FAFSA as early as possible; I suggest by March 1st. For many of their scholarships, completing your FAFSA application and an admission application is all you need to apply.

    Will enjoy being here

I have visited the Greensboro area and it seemed to me there is a very fast lifestyle for students. What I mean by this is that there are a variety of activities that keep students on there feet and always on the move.

    Will learn a lot

I am only accepted at the school and have yet to attend, thus I am unable to provide you with this information.

    Bang for the buck

The in-state tuition looks like a really good deal, and even out-of-state isn't that outragious.

    Will enjoy being here

I went to visit the campus today and it is extremely pretty. It's a good balance between historic and modern. I'm not really a city person myself, and I like the natural aspect of the campus. There's a creek that comes through and LOTS of trees, which I really like. All in all, very nice looking.

    musicians actors in-state

    Tips for prospective students

The ideal school for a rising musician or actor, also a strong nursing school. Low budget option for undergrad years for someone planning on a grad degree after.

    Bang for the buck

In state tuition is well low, even with parking and a high quality dorm the cost of living and other things, I live on campus for under 12,000 per year.

    Am enjoying being here

Student life is great. Almost all students I know stay on campus on the weekends, and there are plenty of campus-wide events and games throughout the year.

    Am learning a lot

Great school of Music, definitely the best public music institution in the state and region. High caliber teachers, fresh facilities.

Artsy, open-minded. The school isn't that big on sports, but still really fun.

    Tips for prospective students

As sketchy as they sound, live in a high-rise dorm!! The people there are really nice, and it's a good way to meet other freshman. Most of the hall style dorms are upper classmen, but the high-rises are usually all incoming freshman who want to have fun!

    Bang for the buck

    Really good for the cost.

    Did enjoy being here

The campus is always full of fun stuff to do... except on the weekends. It's completley dead then.

    Did learn a lot

The professors are so nice, and really want to help you learn.

All types--UNCG is sooo accepting of everyone!!!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early!! for enrollment AND scholarships!!!!

    Bang for the buck

This year, I am paying the undergrad, dorm, and meal plan fees. For being UNC school, the price is pretty fair. There are a lot of options for meal plans and living arrangements that vary enough for anyone to find something they can afford.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the atmosphere here at UNCG...there are so many types of people here yet everyone seems to get along well. Greensboro, itself, gives off a very homey, warm atmosphere.

    Am learning a lot

Teachers are great about helping everyone understand and do their best. The courses are challenging but not so much that there is no chance on passing which is a good attribute for learning the materials. I love it here and am glad I chose UNCG : )

Great for these types of students

Students who enjoy a small-town kind of feel. A not-so-large campus for those who are easily intimidated by large universities. As well as the nightlife downtown with a few interesting clubs, one being a rooftop club for those homework free Thursday nights and weekends.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to keep your grades up whatever major you are in when you are accepted here! It is a highly academic atmosphere with most of the students striving for their education in anyway possible.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely worth going to if you are in NC and are wanting to be in a metropolitan/city type area with the suburbs nearby. The education is not that bad and the area is relatively safe for all.

    Am enjoying being here

For the most part, the campus is not that big but you get to meet a wide diversity of people so everyday is never the same.

    Am learning a lot

The instructors are very knowledgeable in their subject of expertise and they are willing to help you in any way possible to help you be successful in their classes. All you have to do is to not be afraid of asking questions. Smart people ask questions to learn.

Students who do not have much need for financial aid. Otherwise, almost any student will fit into the Greensboro atmosphere.

    Bang for the buck

It is incredibly difficult to receive financial grants or scholarships. If you are planning to receive a scholarship, I suggest you go to another university (I wish I had myself). The financial aid office is not prompt and is very hard to work with.

    Will enjoy being here

I have not attended yet, but know many people who have and have spent much time in the area. Greensboro is a diverse and active place with much to do and many friendly people to meet.

    Campus Safety

Out of the several years that I have been in this area and attending this university, there were only a few problems that occurred and I believe they all related to theft. In a nutshell, know your surroundings at night. Personally, I believe that this campus is quite safe, but I am never oblivious of the things going on around me. I can admit that during my first couple of years here, I took a few nighttime strolls, but I was often with someone or heading back to my dorm from the library. But a good thing about the campus is there are ample lights and emergency polls throughout the area.

    Greek Life

There are several councils here, including the College Panhellenic Council (CPH), the InterFraternity Council (IFC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Multicultural Council (MGC). Regardless of your major or ethnicity, there is a council and chapter for you (if there is a personal interest to join); however, as stated before, please be mindful of balancing your extracurricular activities and interests with your primary goal which is obtaining a higher education. After all, balance is the key to success! And on another note, I encourage those who are interested to do the research about the organization before joining and to also get to know the local chapter and see what they are involved in. Each council and chapter has various focal points (e.g., public service, political awareness, social engagements, etc.) so it's best to get a feel for the chapters because they could be a potential chapter for you to join. From my personal experience, I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of my council and proud of my choice in a sorority.

    Clubs and Activities

There are countless clubs and activities for students to get into. Campus Activities and Programs is one of the most dominant clubs on campus since they often provide free food, entertainment, and prizes throughout every academic year. There is a club or organization present for almost anything that you could imagine and if you do not find something of interest, create your own! Our school gives you the option to create your own student group as long as you have a minimum of 5 people and take the necessary steps to create it.

Great for these types of students

This campus thrives due its diversity. I cannot emphasize how diverse it is unless you witness things for yourself. At UNC-Greensboro, you find people from all walks of life with different interests, styles of dress, and accents. Personally, I appreciate the student exchange program that our school offers, which contributes an international level of diversity to this campus. Therefore, the students that adjust easiest are open-minded and respectful of differences. The great commonality that links us as people is quite simple: we're people FIRST. You may not agree with all of the choices that people make as individuals, but you respect them as a human being and honestly learn that on this campus, the atmosphere is as close to the real world as it gets.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Rawk, as it is known, was donated to the campus in the 1970s as a method of communication. Individual students, clubs, or organizations have the opportunity to display messages, shout outs, or points of information for all of the campus to see by painting the Rawk. Messages are generally posted for 24 hours minimum before someone else paints over it. And as usual, many college campuses have a superstitious tradition that states If you do X, you will not graduate on time. For our campus, if you walk under the clock (near the library tower), you will not graduate on time. Although some students, like myself, are not superstitious, many usually follow the path around the clock to maintain the tradition. It's actually funny to witness a person walking under the clock and to look at the faces of the OTHER students in that area watching him/her. The facial expressions are priceless. And finally, the Fountain was an original hang-out spot and location for probates (or the coming out ceremonies for NPHC Greeks). Unfortunately, it is blocked off since the dining hall is under construction.

    Bang for the buck

UNC-Greensboro is one of the most affordable and conveniently located schools in the UNC School System.

    What to do for fun

The Greensboro area has a lot to offer in terms of fun activities. If you are outgoing and enjoy dancing, there are copious clubs in the area for your enjoyment. The Four Seasons Mall is always a nice place to go to for shopping, food, or to play with the animals in the Puppies to Guppies store. Also, the area has an ice house for ice skating, movie theaters, bowling alleys, art museums, upscale dining facilities, and a host of other things to occupy your time.

    Food and Dining

Unlike high school cafeterias, The Caf offers a variety of food choices that are often tasteful. If you are big on healthy eating (as I am), there are choices for you as well. In addition to the cafeteria, there are food vendors located on campus and a few off campus that are partnered with the university. Fortunately, they are all located in the Greensboro area for your convenience. These off-campus vendors include Papa John's, Mimi's Japanese, and Ghassan's, which allow the use of Spartan Flex dollars on your student identification card. Usually, Flex amounts vary by meal plan, or you can add whatever amount you want to your card with no additional charge. Off-campus ordering is especially convenient for those late evenings when you are on a time crunch and unable to cook.

    Dorm Life

During my first two years of college, I lived in standard dorm rooms and honestly, it is standard housing for a reason. The only gripe that I had was the public restrooms. Overall, they were maintained by the housing staff, but I preferred having my own restroom (hence, why I am off campus now). Nevertheless, the dorms provide a place to sleep, which is the most important aspect of living on campus. If you're active around campus and involved in extracurricular activities, it isn't as bad as it may seem. Also, I can honestly recommend living on campus the first year because it provides the opportunity to expand your social circle and make connections with different types of people. The beauty of living in a standard dorm is the level of openness with the students. Most of them are in their first or second year of schooling so it's often easier to find others that share similar hobbies and interests.

    Academic Rigor

Regardless of the major, classes are held to a greater standard than high school, primarily due to the expectations of students. Long story short, you are not pacified; therefore, it is important to ask questions when you need assistance, complete your assignments before the day before (or the morning of), and come to class prepared. It may sound cliche, but it honestly makes a difference to be on top of your studies.

    Tips for prospective students

As a prospective student, your main focus should be on excelling in your academics in high school. Also, your primary goal as a college student should be to obtain your degree; therefore, any other personal goals or plans that you have while attending any university should be secondary.

    In three sentences

Due to the helpful orientation staff, my freshman year of college managed to be a great transition from high school. They were quite friendly, approachable, and genuinely there to help with any questions or concerns for the incoming freshman. Personally, I am entering my final year of undergraduate school and I am still in love with the beauty and the diversity of this campus.

UNCG is a commuter school, so the campus is shut down and pretty deserted on the weekends. The city itself is more bad than good- the nicer shopping and eating areas are too few to make up for the decrepit areas and crime.

Students that can keep an open mind and enjoy learning will be more than welcome. You do not need to have your life mapped out to find your place here.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the opportunities on campus. Don't be afraid to voice your opinions. Go talk to Financial Aid Department if you need aid, they are great and will help you anyway that they can.

    Bang for the buck

Considering the price of tuition is always going up. I realize that money can be a huge issue, but UNCG is one of the best priced University that I looked into.

    Am enjoying being here

The staff, students, and teachers are an interesting mix, and I am having a blast.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are enthusiastic about there classes and really care about the students. They go out of their way to try to help the students learn their subjects.

Great for these types of students

UNCG has a very diverse student body, and a wide range of majors. If there is a good program for you major, this is a great place to be. There is something here for everybody.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! It seems like there is something for everybody. Getting involved is going to be one of the best ways to get to know new people that you have things in common with. It is a great way to do something on campus and to build great relationships with other students.

    Bang for the buck

UNCG is certainly not one of the most expensive places to go to school. However, I definitely feel like I have had a great education, great opportunities, and good places to live with dorms. It has been worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I have enjoyed being here. There are lots of things going on. I have met so many great people here and have had so many great opportunities and experiences while I have been here.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much in the time I have been here. In the classes that I have been in I have felt like the professors wanted the students to succeed and do well. Because of that I feel like they are willing to work with the students. With my major I have had so many opportunities for internship. Not only have I gained “book knowledge”, but I have also learned a lot of practical things through both classes and internships that I will definitely be able to take with me in to my career after graduation.

Great for these types of students

There are many opportunities on UNCG's campus. Many clubs, sororities, fraternities, volunteering opportunites, Study Abroad, and many other things. Look into everything on campus, and get involved.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for your parking pass early. Emphasis on early. There are so many students, and teachers you have vehicles on campus, with limited parking. Parking passes gets sold out fast.

    Bang for the buck

UNCG is very affordable for in-state and out-of-state tuition. If you qualify for financial aid, I recommend filling out your FAFSA early, because if not, then you can be the last on the list to get your financial aid to go through at the school.

    Am enjoying being here

Everybody is so nice, and willing to help you with whatever you need help with. I have had no problems with this school, and I really enjoy being here.

    Am learning a lot

The school is very laid back, however you have to do the work to make good grades. Nothing will be handed out to you. I am an education major, and it is very competitive getting into the program.

ART STUDENTS! Musicians, dancers, and artists will love it here. I am none of these, but they have many great programs.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for a living and learning dorm. They are a great way to make friends and make the transition into college life easier.

    Bang for the buck

As an out of state student, it is expensive. However, its better than most colleges and for instate students the price is great.

    Am enjoying being here

When I was visiting colleges in high school, so many looked good on paper but did not feel right when I went in person. When I came to UNCG I was at home right away. The campus is beautiful and everyone is so friendly.

    Am learning a lot

My professors have the most interesting teaching styles that really make the information stick with you. They are great at responding to emails and always have to time to help.

    Campus Safety

The University of NC at Greensboro is surrounded by a safe area, so that helps the campus in safety. We have many success factors to our campus safety like 24 hour security and a unanimous want for safety campus wide. Yes we have had a few problems but they have not became a constant problem.

    Greek Life

I don't know much about Greek life, but I have witnessed some probates during my term here. As expected it is pretty intense and heart warming at the same time. It seems as if it is a wonderful organization to be apart of with more heart filled joy than pain.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs students can join here at UNCG. We have the usual like sororities and fraternities then we have the unusual like the deaf and hearing peoples club (DHCC). As far as activities everything is an open invitation.

Great for these types of students

This is great for all types of students because it is a way to bring everyone together without using any type of scheme or force. When a student notices that every culture and interest is sitting in this one particular spot then no one feels the need to deny the open invitation.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Well there is this one hang out spot. It used to be the fountain right in the front of the cafeteria but since that is under construction it is the breeze way in the front of the EUC (student union). Every one usually just hang out there to kill time, enjoy the weather, or get some work done.

    Bang for the buck

The University of NC at Greensboro is safe with me mainly because I am comfortable and I notice all of my peers are too. Every student is an individual in one way or another, but no one seems to be out of place. We all, at this point of life, would like to feel excepted and UNCG has a great way of fulfilling that.

    What to do for fun

During the weekends and the weekdays there are plenty of things to do for fun on campus and off. You can find a lot of activities to engage in that is dealing with your major or you can do things like play in our spades tournament, sit court side at our basketball games, join in our seasonal human versus zombies game, take it back to high school with our wacky tacky prom, etc. We also have a great deal of surrounding activities that go on around or even on campus like cancer races, or concerts.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining services are better than the average University. The institute was kind enough to provide students with over 10 restaurants to pick from. There is also a Golden Corral all you can eat buffet style cafeteria. In the cafeteria you have a vegan side then you have the normal side with endless amounts of varieties of foods from soul food to a sandwich bar.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is an amazing experience within itself. I would recommend every student to stay in a dorm at least one semester because it brings so many opportunities. You meet new awesome people, and you learn life lesson that you will never forget.

    Academic Rigor

When it comes to the academic rigor UNCG is well placed. We are not some ridiculously easy school neither on the same playing field as an Ivy League like Harvard, but the degrees are well earned and our professions come out labeled as one of the best. What ever it is a student gets at the University of NC at Greensboro is well earned and appreciated.

    Tips for prospective students

The first tip I have for any upcoming students is come in with an open mind so you can take every learning experience from every class to every engagement you have dealing with the school. You should also take full advantage of all the different aspects of culture and activities that are presented. Most of all you should make your term at UNCG count so when you engage in the real world you will be established.

    In three sentences

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is the prime definition of a melting pot. There are so many different cultures, majors, and styles of learning that can fit every student's interest. The college itself is a great experience, not only on an educational level, but a life experience level.

    Clubs and Activities

I am in SGA and I love it more than anything! Any club on campus enhances your experience!

Great for these types of students

NEVER walk through the clock tower, if you walk through it you won't graduate on time.

    Bang for the buck

UNCG is completely worth the price, it is a relatively cheaper college for an amazing experience!

    What to do for fun

Walking around downtown Greensboro, or going to the two malls in town are a lot of fun. I also enjoyed just laying out on the lawn with my friends on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

The cafe food is awful, there are almost no healthy options and its all dripping with grease. They are redoing the cafe and upgrading the food selection in the coming years so hopefully it will get better.

    Dorm Life

I loved dorm life, you get to know everyone you are living with and you always have someone to hang out with. However, it is always loud and sometimes the bathrooms are a little dirty.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are more demanding than High School, but they are not impossible.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to enjoy yourself you have to get involved. Joining clubs helps you adjust and teaches you to become a strong leader.

    In three sentences

I love UNCG more than any place in the world. Students are very open and willing to get to know one another. The University challenges you to learn about yourself, and teaches you to grow as a leader.

    Campus Safety

Like most colleges UNC Greensboro has the blue emergency phones if you should need an emergency service, which is a bit of a relief as you never know.

    Clubs and Activities

    100 + things to do!

Great for these types of students

    EVERYONE!!!!!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Don't walk under/through the clock tower near the library, it's said that if you do you won't graduate on time!

    Bang for the buck

As an out-of-state prospective student, the tuition is really reasonable compared to other colleges that I've reviewed.

    What to do for fun

100 + clubs and activities - find something you're interested in and join (or make a club for your interest if they don't have it)!

    Dorm Life

From what I've heard the dorms are great. Try for a living and learning dorm (so the rumors say they're great for making new friends and getting your work done).

    Academic Rigor

From what I've heard it's not a school you should be slacking at - if you want to hang out and goof around this isn't the place. Also everyone says the professors are great and willing to help you out if you need it, so definitely ask when needed.

    Tips for prospective students

Do extremely well in high school, be involved in things you love, make sure to have someone look over your application before you send it in - you don't want to miss out on this place for something small like that! Talk to friends, family, teachers, counselors, and anyone else you can think of for advice. Don't be afraid to ask the Undergrad admissions office questions either, they're there to help and they get back to in a timely manner and are willing to help you out - so just ask!

    In three sentences

UNC Greensboro seems to offer so many different clubs and activities that there will be something for everyone! The school is known for it's great academic rigor. You should really consider coming no matter what you're into or what kind of student you are as University offers so much for all of its students!

    Clubs and Activities

As I said before, there are plenty of things to do on campus. The CAB, Campus Activity Board, sets up events and activities for students to do all the time.

Great for these types of students

    Any student really.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a tradition during orientation where new students all gather in a circle with candles and say an oath together. There's also the fountain that's located right in front of the dining hall. It's an awesome place to eat or just hang out. There's also the UNCG clock...there's a superstition that if you walk under the clock, you won't graduate on time. So most superstitious students walk around it. And last, but not least, there's the rock. Students all over campus can paint the rock, leaving whatever message they desire on it. There are 2 smaller rocks where the student(s) must put the date and time they painted their message on the rock. Pretty awesome activity to do with friends.

    What to do for fun

There are always events going on campus. They have comedy shows, game shows, talent shows...all sorts of activities you can participate in. Never a dull moment.

    Food and Dining

The food is surprisingly awesome! The dining hall has an international side where they have different kind of ethnic foods. Asian, Mexican, you name it, they've got it.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are okay. Not really ecstatic on sharing a small room with someone else, but it's alright under the circumstances.

    Academic Rigor

As any other University, studies have to be taken seriously. It's a completely different scene from high school, but almost every professor I've had has been more than willing to work with students if they ask for it.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused on your studies. Go to as many events as you can. Go to YUM YUM's...you won't be disappointed!

    In three sentences

UNCG is an amazing university. I love the ethnic and cultural diversity. It is a great environment for education.

I like the emergency stations across campus that immediately alerts campus police. It gives you a feeling of security while jogging around campus. Also, there is always a patrolling security officer roaming around somewhere nearby.

    Greek Life

Lots of frats and sororities to choose from.

    Clubs and Activities

I love the sheer number of music clubs on campus. The music major are a large part of the campus and are always happy to share these talents.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No walking under the clock tower or it's another year at UNCG for you.

    Bang for the buck

First degree students will love this. There is plenty of aid to go around to cover the relatively low cost of attendance. Just make sure to get all of FAFSA info in early! There is a second degree program available, but be wary of going this route. UNCG isn't very forgiving in the way of second degree and nontraditional students. They will usually only offer loans or in some cases no aid at all. Just be sure to leave yourself enough time to make the tough decisions.

    What to do for fun

Campus activities board in tandem with housing and residence life will keep you going with constant updates on the latest happenings on campus. Parties, greek life, movie showings. it's all there

    Food and Dining

The caf has a lot of sections. The Mongolian grill, Mexican taco station, sandwich station, vegetarian station, and more. There is something for everybody. The buffet style stuff is never really that good. So go for the specialty station items. You can also use Flex to eat at restaurants on and off campus. Just don't overeat.

    Dorm Life

Best dorms are Guilford on the third floor. Spacious rooms, high ceilings, and beautiful. There are always programs going on to get you to know your dorm mates. The constant nagging to come on out can get annoying if you are a loner. But that can be fixed with a pair of headphones. Some of the high rise places are a kind of bad. Very run down. However the school is in the process of renovating.

    Academic Rigor

Classes in Biology and Chemistry are very challenging. You may not need the book but never, Never, NEVER, miss a class. It will throw you way off. Otherwise study hard.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a wonderful place for your first degree. Just make sure that you get your financial aid taken care of quickly.

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful. Professors will challenge the limits of what you thought you can do and help you surpass it, Financial aid is a nightmare, especially for those in the second degree program.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of activities and clubs to join. They are all listed online

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is the Bell Tower. If you walk under you are said to graduate a year late. There is also the rock. You can spray paint messages on it or advertisements, BUT you have to leave the previous message on their for atleast 3 days.

    What to do for fun

Right on campus is Tate Street that has coffee shops and a few restaraunts. Also there is a 3 story mall near buy and tons of shopping opportunities. There are plenty of clubs and bars and the Greensboro collisseum is 5 minutes from campus and houses plenty of concerts.

    Food and Dining

There are many restaurants on campus including Subway, Jama Juice, Waa Greens, Chik Fil A, Salsitas, Coyote Jacks, Papa Johns, Au Bon Pan, Bo Jangles, and more. As far as the cafeteria, I personally do not like it. You can always find atleast something to eat but they do not have a wide variety.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a great experience but personally it was not for me. The dorms are nice but you do have to get used to sharing everything. You share a bathroom with over 20 people.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are very challenging but fair. The professors are very helpful and caring. They will do their best to help you pass.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students I would reccommend taking tours of the campus and staying in the area for atleast a day to see all there is to offer.

    Campus Safety

All around campus there's a blue Emergency Police Contact system. This system has a button for emergency purposes, for example, you're being followed and feel uncomfortable. Another button is for information, for instance, it's late at night and you need someone to walk you to your car.

    Clubs and Activities

It's great to be involved on campus because you meet new people. You begin connections and start making friends. It's also good to learn a little bit about club because clubs can make you feel comfortable and belonging on campus as well.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for students who like to converse with different types of ethnicity backgrounds.

    What to do for fun

On your leisure time, visit the Student Recreation Center to exercise or simply play a game or two on the gym courts. The Rec Center also has a rock wall climbing. You can borrow 2 movies from a large selection at the library. It's recommended to take advantage of Home games because they're free for all students.

    Food and Dining

Fast food restaurants are everywhere on campus. Simply, if you're tired of eating in the cafeteria, you have choices of eating elsewhere. The cafeteria has large amount of foods to choose from because it's buffet style. They serve breakfast everyday, different toppings of pizza, different pastas everyday, and so on.

    Dorm Life

Living in a dorm is convenient because that's where all the connections take place. You can make new friends really quickly. There was about 3 mice in my room, but after calling the FIXT people, they came in and investigated the room for holes. They quickly seal in the holes so I can live in my room without fretting. FIXT people are always there to assist if for example, a light bulb goes out. The person in charge of the dorm also has Movie Nights for all students living in the dorm. The person in charge usually provides popcorn, pizza, and drinks.

    Academic Rigor

When a person lacks off on classes, it's not a good way to start college. A person focused on his/her major is great. They can overcome hardships and become successful. A student has to put all their effort in continuing education because that's expected. I think a little bit of fun won't hurt a person's career, but if it conflicts with an exam coming up, it's best to study for the exam instead.

    Tips for prospective students

It's always great to explore the campus because it can be surprisingly huge. When a student wants to drop a class, it's appropriate for them to send the instructor an email saying you have dropped the class. It's recommended that a student starts an email with Dear Dr./Mr./Mrs./Ms. _________ and end with Sincerely or Thank you.

    In three sentences

It's famous for its' diversity students. Professors, instructors, and advisors are helpful. The campus is undergoing construction, but it still looks fabulous.

Great for these types of students

There is a lot of music around campus and around Greensboro. If you are into bands and jam sesh's, UNCG is great for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The clock tower by the library is said to have a bad omen and if you walk under it you won't graduate on time. There is a lot of tradition at UNCG but it mostly depends on what organizations you relate yourself to.

    Bang for the buck

UNCG is not an expensive school for the stellar education and social experiences it provides. Wherever you can save a dollar, I suggest doing so since tuition has been rising for the last 3 years. Don't bring your car. Buy your books used.

    What to do for fun

Since UNCG students get free bus fare, I like to explore the city when I get a chance. Greensboro has a lot of history and culture so, as much as I love campus, I like to explore outside of campus as well.

    Food and Dining

There are many options for every kind of eater.

    Dorm Life

If you want dorm life to be fun, it will be!

    Academic Rigor

Professors are always willing to work with students as long as there is clear initiative.

    Tips for prospective students

Always write due dates in your agenda. It is important to keep up with what events you'll be attending as well as what projects you have coming up. It takes organization to have a balanced life and to not get overwhelmed.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

For students who are paranoid about being in a new, unfamiliar location, don't be frightened. There is a 24/7 police force around the campus. You can't go more than 100 feet and not see a panic button. The stations are royal blue and, if the panic button is pressed, a police officer WILL be there in under a minute. The campus police at UNCG are definitely a plus to the whole college experience. They definitely know how to make us feel safe, knowing that they are only a call away.

    What to do for fun

UNCG has its own Facebook page dedicated to campus activities. Also, the iSpartan, UNCGenie, and SpartanLink accounts send messages to students when it comes to new activities. There is always something to do when you're at UNCG.

    Food and Dining

When I went to visit, the cafe was spectacular. The food is definitely of good quality. It will be hard for new students to resist gaining their freshman fifteen.

    Dorm Life

The Lloyd Honors College dorm at UNCG has two students per room and, as an added bonus, sinks are actually inside of the rooms. Keeping the room sizes down definitely seems to help keep fights & tensions from forming between students.

    Academic Rigor

I have been accepted into the Lloyd International Honors College, and I can tell that being an Honors student will be no easy task. However, being willing to work hard helps with the daunting tasks that lay ahead. Taking AP classes & scoring well on the final exams can place you out of freshman classes, which can be tedious since they are teaching you the foundations for all of your subsequent classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Being admitted to UNCG requires good SAT, ACT, and GPA scores. Be sure to compare your scores to the school's requirements & work to improve them to increase your chance of admittance.

As a tradition there are bags placed all around campus with candles in them that are lit by student organizations in the spring to light up the campus.

    Bang for the buck

As with all colleges it is very expensive to attend but you do get a lot for your money. All textbooks are going to be expensive but there are alternate options to compensate for that. As with food there are numerous places to eat on campus other than the cafeteria that is also apart of your meal plan. There is free transportation that is offered through the HEAT bus which is a small part of tuition, and Financial Aid is there to help you as well as some of the other resources and schools that give scholarships to students on both academic and financial need.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not sure what this means but I'm going to guess this means a way to get the best deal to save money. They do give out coupon books, discounts for Papa Johns, MIMI's Kitchen, China Wok, Manhattan Subs, and some stores in the mall.

One of the cheaper schools around North Carolina you definitely get your money's worth. It's not so expensive that you will not be able to afford it and you will see that with all the many courses offered you definitely get the better side of the deal.

    What to do for fun

UNCG is very close to downtown to explore the city and enjoy the night life that Greensboro has to offer. There are Heat buses that will carry you to different places to shop around Greensboro during the day.

    Food and Dining

The EUC holds many wonderful places to eat however having to use Flex is something that you will eventually not want to do. The Cafe doesn't stay open late and although there are a lot of options of food you will get tired of it very quickly. There are a couple of places close to campus within walking distance that are really not that expensive.

    Dorm Life

Make sure to not pick the High Risers (Cone, Reynolds, or Grogen) because they are in the worst conditions. DO NOT LIVE WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND, just do random roommate assignments. Make the best out of the dorm because they are really not that bad.

    Academic Rigor

There are a lot of readings and papers to write, but nothing that is not within capabilities. You have to study hard and not wait to cram everything in on the very last day to study.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your work and study hard, your A's and B's are not going to be given out just like that you have to work hard for them. Ask for help if you need it, that's what the professors, advisers, etc are for.

    In three sentences

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a perfect college for students straight out of high school; they have tons of majors to decide from and plenty of sources to help you decide where you want your life to take you. There are a lot of willing individuals that will help you throughout school when you are falling short with your work or struggling and need that extra boost. I definitely rate this school very highly because the student is the one who matters the most on this campus.

University police are all around and you may just not know they are. There are security call-button posts around campus so if you're uncomfortable or in trouble, you can definitely access those panels and everything else will be taken care of by campus police. Dorms are only accessed by a fob specific to that dorm so you don't have to worry about strangers randomly coming in. But a word of caution, always check who's coming in with you!

    Greek Life

Many opportunities for frats and sororities are everywhere on campus. They're heavily promoted and they sometimes carry out University events themselves. So, if you're in for a frat or a sorority, UNCG is the place. Greek life is definitely all around and they try to give back to the community as much as they can!

    Clubs and Activities

I can't even begin to start with all the opportunities. From aikido to flag football to lacrosse. Many people find friendships through team activities and may even last for a lifetime.

    What to do for fun

Well, downtown Greensboro isn't far from campus so there are plenty of things to do when you're not studying! Hang out with friends at a various assortment of clubs, shopping centers around the area, and much more. Even the nearby cities of High Point and Charlotte offer a lot to students. There's just a lot of opportunities and hidden gems in Greensboro that you don't want to miss. It's an adventure in and of itself.

    Food and Dining

Hey, if you're a student living on a budget, food is food. Be thankful for it. I'm going to be honest, the food is not stellar but it helps when you have a full semester load of classes and if you're just... well... HUMANLY HUNGRY!! Food is food, I'm thankful for the workers that spend their time feeding students of a future generation that will make things right.

    Dorm Life

You get to meet a lot of interesting people in every dorm. It's a learning-living experience! You grow as a person and you learn so much in only a year. Again, it's totally up to you to make the most out of your college experience. It's all up to you and no one else decides how you live your life BUT YOU.

    Academic Rigor

It's not a joke. People may scoff at names of universities and a certain stereotype or notion about the school may malign their name, but UNCG is not a joke. It's up to you to make your grades and be responsible. If you're not responsible, UNCG is not for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Always ask questions about financial aid, room and board, as well as the perks of living on campus versus in an apartment. Don't be afraid to ask help from the teachers as well, they are very accommodating ONLY IF YOU SEEK THEIR HELP!

    In three sentences

UNCG is a very diverse community for anyone wanting to seek out a variety of friends. It is also a good university to go to for the serious-minded in academics along with those who also want a social life. Campus Safety

The campus police has a program called RAD (Rape Aggression Defense), it is a self defense program for women who want to learn self defense so that they will be able to defend themselves in situations that would otherwise be to their disadvantage. I would suggest taking some of the classes. They are provided throughout the year and it would be so cool to do what you see people do on TV.

    Clubs and Activities

At SOAR they have an expo that gives you the opportunity to learn about some of the campus clubs and activities, but the best one you get to meet when you first arrive. They guide, they cheer, and best of all they dance. UNCG's SOS(Spartan Orientation Staff)Panel is a panel of students that recruit new members each school year. They are paid to act as the faces of UNCG. They do orientaion, volunteer, help incoming students, and did I mention they dance.

    What to do for fun

UNCG has many clubs and organizations around campus that will be sure to peak you interest. The Quad is the life of the campus, it's the main hangout for students. Near by of Four Seasons mall and Friendly shopping center, which if you ride the HEAT bus you can get a free ride to and from, all you have to do is show your student ID badge.

    Food and Dining

You will get your first taste of the Spartan Restaurant when you attend SOAR. It has a buffet style layout with tasty and seemingly endless choices. I tried but you can't taste everything in just one sitting, but that doesn't matter you'll want to come back.

    Dorm Life

I can't wait to live on campus. I am looking forward to the energy and traditions that seems to be woven into everything on campus. The dorms are like home and summer camp at the same time. You get the family and the late night fun.

    Academic Rigor

I have not attended a class as of yet, but the rating system for the courses suggests that the course work gets harder as you move on.

This is my first College, and honestly my first real time on my own and away from home. I was extremely scared and the first few days were ruff. However after i met that one person everything was normal, I can never thank uncg enough for giving me such a great chance and accepting me when other schools didn't. I promise to never let them down.

    What to do for fun

The campus at UNCG is so beautiful that my friends and i just sit outside. One day two of my friends spent the entire day in the woods climbing trees, it was one of my most memorable moments so far.

    Food and Dining

Honestly the food and dinning needs a little work, however they have just began construction on the cafeteria so I'm excited to see the outcome.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are nice, and very open. This makes it easy to know people. Phillip hawkins was my first dorm and so far my favorite. This dorm allowed me to not only meet amazing friends from the united states but also a friend from every country in Europe, thanks to the amazing study abroad program we have.

    Academic Rigor

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe and the campus police will guide you to and from class if it is late at night. Also they are quick to respond to emergencies. Over all I have always felt very safe at the school.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of different clubs and activities to join. If you think of it its probably already going on at UNCG.

Great for these types of students

If you love art, music, science, architecture, math, teaching, or anything this school will help you meet your major goals. Its great for people of all back grounds.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have different traditions at UNCG. At our Athena statue we place apples near her to help us with our exams. There is a annual zombie walk to raise money for various charities. Zombies vs Humans game that is a large game to tag. Also more traditional activities like the freshman welcome where after every student is given a daisy and a pin.

    Bang for the buck

UNCG offers a nice financial aid programs. The school offers work study and on campus jobs. It is a nice evenly priced school that doesn't cost to much to attend.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of sporting events, concerts that the school provides, art shows and fun activities the school hosts. Like midnight breakfasts before exams start. Holiday dances, and scavenger hunts. Also in down town Greensboro there are lots of clubs, shops, and places to go exploring.

    Food and Dining

The food is ok. Most Freshman will get a unlimited meal plan to the cafeteria and 100 dollars that you can use on campus restaurants. After your first year the meal plans become easier to fit your different lifestyles. The cafe food is fine but remember it is cafeteria food and when you are eating the same choice of food every single day as a freshman is can get old. The good thing is that during holidays and parents coming to see the school the food does get much better.

    Dorm Life

I am in a living and learning community that is a 4 year dorm that you can stay in. The school offers many different dorm options from freshman first year experience dorms to apartment living through the school. I have become really close to the dorm I joined and all the people around me. There are people of all ages living in the dorm and having the upper class-men around can be really helpful especially when you are a freshman. I strongly recommend living and learning communities dorms. Also because they cater to anyone and have major specific levels or a mix to get to know different people. Some even provide classes in the dorm itself.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are tough but the professors will help you every step of the way. Although there will be some tough classes there are also students that have been there before and know what you are going through. The school also offers writing and speaking centers to help you with projects for class. The tutoring program is one of the best that I have had and is completely free.

    Tips for prospective students

Look for different major options. Talk to your major department before you decide on your major. Go with your gut feeling. Take lots of different classes. Get to know the people around you. Get involved in campus activities, clubs, dorm activities and the city around you.

A very nice environment to study. Amazing people and great professors. A great school for students looking for a medium sized campus.

    Campus Safety

When I lived on campus at UNCG, campus safety was pretty good. However, there were a few robberies among the campus and even an attempted assault (back in 05-07) We may still have one to two robberies throughout the school year but we are notified via text message from the campus police department. Overall, they have tightened up security more and more each year. I wouldn't recommend anyone to be wondering the campus alone after midnight though.

    Greek Life

I'm not too familiar with Greek life as I am not in an organization myself. But I do know that being a part of one is like having a job. There are many meetings throughout the year and during the summer and each organization sticks together through thick and thin. There is no discrimination among groups and anyone/everyone is allowed to join whichever they choose to join. It can be costly but in the end, I've heard that it is definitely worth it!

    Clubs and Activities

There are sports clubs, fraternities, sororities, academic achievement clubs, theater clubs, traveling clubs, etc. There are many different types and activities that are provided to everyone at the school who may want to participate. They too are a great part of the experience at UNCG.

Great for these types of students

UNCG would be great for students who like cold weather as it gets very cold during the year and for students who enjoy landscape and are artistic. The campus is so beautiful and I am always examining the campus buildings/landscape. I believe hills within the campus play a huge role in the beauty of the campus and how it was established.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There aren't really any unusual locations on campus that I recall. If there was I would consider them to be interesting rather than unusual. Like the layout of the campus and how things were built/sculpted to be the way that they were/are. One unusual tradition for me would be the condom awareness day that we have in which condoms are passed out among the campus to increase the practice of safe sex to prevent transmission of diseases.

    Bang for the buck

I would definitely say that UNCG is worth the bang for the buck. Tuition isn't all that bad when you stay off campus. The overall experience is great and I wouldn't have passed it up for anything. (Except for my favorite school UNC Chapel Hill which I didn't have a high enough gpa to attend coming out of high school). IF you do your work and keep your grades up, of course any school is worth it. It's all about what you make of the experience.

    What to do for fun

Things to do for fun consist of working out at the Rec Center or swimming in the health and human performance building. There is a recreational field for flag football, rugby, soccer, ultimate frisbee, etc. There are comedy shows held throughout the year and movie nights on campus. Greensboro is a huge city so there are always things to do and places to go within the city that are close to the school. Then you always have the downtown life and mingling with friends and increasing your circle of friends as well as your networking circle.

    Food and Dining

The food is great as well! At least twice a week, there is soul food that is provided from an outside organization. There is a variety to choose from and there are also restaurants such as papa johns, chic fila, subway, etc at the school. Food is always hot and ready and there are no long waits in line! For those who stay off campus, there are meal plans provided as well.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is GREAT! That is if you have a social roommate. You both can get to know each other and that way you wont feel alone when you first arrive. If you have more of a quiet roommate, it may be difficult for you to make friends unless you're very social yourself. You develop a lot of responsibility that you didn't have when at home because you were use to your parents doing everything for you! It's a really great experience learning to live on your own!

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be tough if you procrastinate! It's not the course work that is challenging but actually the time that is required to put in to complete it. That's the challenging part. Managing time is the challenge!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't procrastinate! Take care of your work first (Sun-Thur) so that you will be able to enjoy your weekends! Manage your time and money wisely! Study effectively (when you aren't doing anything). Exercise to stay healthy and keep stress out of your system. PARKING IS TERRIFYING! Make sure that when you find a parking spot you remember where you parked as spots are scarce. You could possibly end up spending 45 min to an hour looking for one spot if you arrive to school late at night.

    In three sentences

On a scale of 1-10 I would rate UNCG a 9. The environment is very friendly and multicultural. The campus is easy to navigate and actually provides a workout switching from class to class

The Cafeteria has pretty good food, but if you ever want anything different, there is a Bojangle's, Chick-fil-a, Subway, Taco Bell, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and more on campus!

    Dorm Life

Of course, the suite-style dorms are always more popular than the highrises. The suite-style dorms have walk-in closets, and have more room than the highrises. Although, the highrises are popular for the living-learning communities.

    Academic Rigor

Just like any other institution, some classes are more challenging than others. It depends on the student and the professor.

    Tips for prospective students

Getting involved in any group or organization on campus is highly recommended. Also, if you want to get a real feel for the university, go for a tour to see everything up close. And lastly, if you ever have any questions, never hesitate to ask.

    In three sentences

UNC Greensboro is a wonderful, diverse university, with caring and very helpful staff. The campus is beautiful, and the academics are made a little easier thanks to the staff and faculty. A lot of the people are friendly, and there is always something to do on and off campus-get involved!

    Campus Safety

The officers there are committed and excellent. They are ranked in the top five for public safety in North Carolina and they are mainly volunteers!! Also, there are emergency phones all over campus and they're always ready to assist you.

    Greek Life

I don't know much about the Greek life here on campus but I do know that they are pretty active. I can recall seeing Sigma Sigma Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and then other fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs and activities. There's plenty of options for community service for those who are looking and the clubs range from Divine Harmony, a gospel choir, to the Carpooling Club. Plus there is a Rec. center that has a climbing wall, pool, workout classes, and other activities. There is plenty to be involved in.

Great for these types of students

College is what you make it out to be. The motto of UNCG is service and you are expected to participate in the community in some way. So if you love giving back and being around students that are a positive influence, then you may want to look into going to school here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is this beautiful statue of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, right outside the building where the bookstore is and believe it or not right behind it is a swing set which just brings out your inner child.

    Bang for the buck

This school is most definitely worth the money. The price isn't that bad and there are still opportunities to earn scholarships. Also, you can see that the money is being put to good use in renovating the old buildings and adding new places for students to live.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty of activities on campus that you can be involved in. You can be involved with the Student Government Association or cheer on our Spartans at home games. Since Greensboro is a college town there is a special bus transportation that is free for any college student with an ID, so you can go to the mall, the Friendly Center which has the best stores in Greensboro in my opinion, Walmart, and plenty of other places.

    Food and Dining

There are at least eight different restaurants from a Salsarita's and Coyote Jack's to a Starbucks and Papa John's on the campus itself. That's not including the newly renovated Spartan Restaurant, which is basically the cafeteria and is an all-you-can-eat buffet and has several great food options including gluten-free and vegetarian options. There is also an old-fashioned ice cream parlor called Yum Yum's that sells hot dogs and mountains of ice cream for an extremely low price.

    Dorm Life

You can chose to be a member of a learning community; which is basically a group of students that share similar interests as you. You can live in the same dorm as those in that community or you can live in another one on campus and several have a lounge area with a TV, a laundry room, and other great perks. The dorms are great and a few have been recently renovated so now they are better than ever.

    Academic Rigor

There are many people there who are ready to help you succeed. It's college so yes the work is going to be a little challenging but there are study groups and tutors that can be found all over campus. Also, you are given the best study tips at orientation before you even sign up for classes:. One of which is read all class materials before the actual class and take your own notes. This is a good habit to get into especially if you want to make plans to do something over the weekend.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a great place to have an excellent college experience, as well as a chance to network. It's a good idea to get to know your professors because you never know if they might give you that recommendation you may need for something. Also, there are scholarships for different departments on campus so it's best to keep a lookout. You should also review your notes right after class, that way it can be easier to remember. There are plenty of food options which is a plus if you ever get tiered of eating at the newly renovated Spartan Restaurant, which is basically our cafeteria, then you can eat somewhere like Chipotle, Jimmy Johns, Subway and more. The faculty is supportive of you and are interested in helping you achieve whatever your goal may be on campus. There are numerous things that you can be a part of in a vast community of students and organizations that have the same interests as you.

    In three sentences

UNCG is the friendliest campus I have ever been on, even when it's snowing or pouring down outside people always have a smile on their faces. Networking here is amazingly easy since the faculty, staff, and even students want to help you succeed. Also, there is no other campus in North Carolina that has a nursing and study abroad programs as good as ours.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is better than it is at most colleges but it is still cafeteria food so it's not great. We have bojangles and salsaritas and brusters and pizza! It is all really good and there is also a salad bar.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are average. They are what you would expect, nothing special. Living in the dorms is a good way to meet people because you are always surrounded by a lot of people. There are activities that happen in the dorms and you have the opportunity to be an RA.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty is depending on what your major is and what classes you are taking. Most of the pre education classes are not too difficult but once you take more advanced classes they are harder. It is like it would be at any other campus.

    Tips for prospective students

    Food and Dining

I eat at the dining hall two to three times a week, usually for lunch or dinner. I haven't had a bad experience yet. There's always a variety to choose from. Whether you're into Mexican, Italian, American, or vegetarian dishes, there's something for everyone. There is always a soup, salad, and custom panini/wrap bar along with a daily hot plate. Fruit, vegetables, Asian dishes, pizza, omelets, and cereal are also available daily. My favorite part is the ice cream station which has six different flavors to choose from.

    Dorm Life

I live in an apartment off campus, but my best friend lives in a dorm. Even though he was assigned one of the smallest and oldest dorms available, the high rises, he says it's an enjoyable experience. He's become really good friends with his roommate. When I visited him during move-in week one of the first things he said to me was I love that my hall is so diverse. Some dorms are definitely nicer than others though. All have air conditioning and security, but the high rises are starting to seem run down. Dorm life is what you make of it. You can choose to complain over the small things or make the most of the new people you get to meet and live with.

    Academic Rigor

I really enjoy all of my classes. I'm in three human development classes, a communications class, and Greek mythology. My instructors give off such a positive energy in the classroom. I never feel like I'm being talked down to and they are very approachable to express questions or concerns. I actually enjoy going to class because I'm learning about things that I'm interested in a way that I'm comfortable and that keeps my attention. I'm not a big fan of how little some of the desks are in the lecture halls, but on the bright side most of them have plugs attached to hook up your laptop.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should always leave a comfortable amount of time between classes. I made the mistake of scheduling five classes, two days a week, back to back, fifteen minutes apart. Distances may look short on a map, but actually having to walk from point A to point B in a short amount of time can be extremely stressful. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes if you do a lot of walking, and always have an umbrella in case of bad weather.

    In three sentences

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is home to a very diverse group of people. Though UNCG enrolls over 18,000 students, it still gives that small college feeling. Everyone is so friendly and accepting.

There are tons of academic and social groups! There is always an event on campus: comedy shows, fashion shows, Greek life sponsored events, talent shows, and of course sports events!

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

No one here at UNCG wants to see you fail! Everyone is here to help, don't be afraid to ask for help! We are a culturally diverse school and everyone here accepts each others differences. Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One location on campus that is very important is the clock near the circle outside of the library. It is said that if you walk under the clock, you will not graduate on time. Most people on campus believe in the power of the clock so you always see people walking around the clock or groups splitting into two because they don't want to walk under the clock.

    Bang for the buck

UNCG definitely felt like home to me when I first came here! I'm enjoying myself on campus. I am glad that I came here and I feel that it is definitely worth my money.

    What to do for fun

Since it's in Greensboro with several other colleges, there is always something to do! There are bowling alleys, hookah bars, clubs, lounges, celebration station, and many other places to go! There is also a bus transit called the Heat bus that travels to various places like the mall and walmart and it also goes to the other colleges in the area like A&T and Bennett College. This is a good thing because it is free for students and so are the GTA buses.

    Food and Dining

We have flex that you can use for places like bojangles, taco bell, chick fil a, east coast wings, etc. and we have a main cafeteria which is usually pretty diverse in it foods. The cooks always make sure the food is fresh. Because you may eat it a lot, you might get sick of the cafe food at some point, but that's when your flex comes in handy!

    Dorm Life

For me, my dorm experience has been awesome! I am in the Honors College, so my room was pretty big compared to the other freshmen dorms. The high-rises are the smallest dorms, but a lot of my friends who stay in them say that they love it. Most UNCG's dorms are very nice and spacious though.

Academics at UNCG are great! The professors are very skilled in their fields, so they all know exactly what to teach and what will help you in the long run. The students are very focused too. UNCG is the perfect place for determined students because everyone on campus is serious about their work but still know how to have fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Come with an open mind! There are so many different types of people here so you get to experience so many different cultures at once! Also, don't take on more classes than you can handle. If things seem overwhelming, drop a class so you will not be so stressed out. Stress will hurt you physically and academically.

    In three sentences

UNCG is an awesome school to attend because the people are friendly, the campus is beautiful, and they offer so many opportunities for study abroad and academics! We also have schools within the school, so whatever you are interested in, you can be a part of a program specifically for you major! Also, its location in Greensboro puts you close to many other colleges, which allows you to interact with new people and academics!

Under the Music Building bridge there is a little stream that you can sit by if you'd like to isolate yourself and take a peek at some nature. Also, there is a game called Zombies vs Humans played by the students all over campus using bandanas and Nerf guns!

    Bang for the buck

Never forget to take advantage of CAB, they are always giving out prizes!

    What to do for fun

CAB, our Campus Activities Board, is always planning events on campus to do. They host movie nights, game nights, a concert once, open mic nights, and plenty of other events. There are also a few clubs in town if you like the party life. There is a bus that can take you to Four Seasons Mall and The Cinema in Greensboro. Also, don't forget the Soccer, Volleyball and Basketball games on campus! There is also a Campus Recreation Center with a rock climbing wall, machines, group exercise programs like Zumba, and we also have an indoor pool. There are intramural teams you can join if you'd like to stay active. In addition, there is the Outdoor Adventures program which offer hiking, canoeing and more for a small price! If these options don't interest you, it's possible you can get really bored, especially if you can't entertain yourself with a personal hobby.

    Food and Dining

The first week you'll believe the Caf has alot of options, but the same food is served almost everyday. If you like variety...this might not be a good choice. However, there are plenty of fast food options available on campus, including Mimi's Kitchen, Bojangles, Papa Johns and Chick-fil-A!

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes are very challenging and some are very simple. It depends on your major and coursework. I believe any one can do it as long as they don't slack off. It's college and if you slip up, you can be in some trouble.

Great for these types of students

If you love reading and watching a few movies, then the library would be the best place for you. Also on the plus side, if you're a person who needs or love coffee Starbucks is in the same building as the library. If you love to workout and stay fit, we also have a on campus gym and recreational center.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I'm honestly still learning about my school. So far one tradition I thought was unusual was breakfast at night. It was actually fun just being with everyone and enjoying cereal and fruit, a real social event to get to know fellow students.

    What to do for fun

Almost every weekend there are campus activities going on. They show popular recent movies, hold plays, and athletic events. There are also camping trips and friendly competition games amongst fellow students.

    Academic Rigor

Maintain a good GPA is a main focus of the professors as well as being prepared and punctual. It is highly recommended with writing intensive courses or speech classes that you visit the writing center and/or the reading center. These really help with writing essays, giving speeches, and releasing the nervousness of doing such.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

The UNCG police are there to protect and help you. I feel safe on campus, even late at night, and that is saying something.

    What to do for fun

UNCG offers a lot of campus activities for people to do that can be fun. They do such things are movie nights, concerts, karaoke nights, game nights, and other such leisure activities. Greensboro itself also offers things downtown, like first Friday, or the three story mall. There's actually more to do than people realize. And of course, there's Tate street, where many people at UNCG go to hang out.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria at UNCG is ok. The food isn't the best but cafeteria food usually isn't. But, there is a wide a variety of desert, which I love. Also, breakfast isn't bad, that's what I mostly eat. Now, the places to eat on campus would mainly be the EUC, where things like Starbucks and Chickfila are. That's the place to be.

    Dorm Life

Depending on where you live at UNCG, dorm life can be the best experience ever, or the worst. As a freshman, there isn't a lot of nice choices, but that's probably like any college anywhere. The freshman dorms, or high rises aren't the best, they are small and crowded and noisy, and all kinds of people live there. But, from what I have heard, its the best way to meet people. Seeing as how I live in North Spencer, which is the honors dorm, my view on dorm life is different. Its quiet and my room is a bit nicer than the high rises but I don't talk to people and no one keeps a door open. So, if you are an incoming freshman who is an honor student, living here is a good place to be. But, sometimes I wished I had taken the chance to live in the normal freshman dorms, so I could meet new people. So, take my advice and freshman, go in with an open mind and at least try it out.

    Academic Rigor

Since I am a freshman who went into college already with credit and joined an honor society, my idea of academic rigor may be different than the average freshman going in, but the classes I have had so far, just normal GED courses, really aren't that difficult. Just make sure to know how to study and you will be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Be open to meeting new people, because there are tons of people to meet here. Also, open up time to walk around the campus. It really is pretty and wonderfully landscaped.

    In three sentences

It is a beautiful campus. I love the fact that I can meet people from every walk of life, especially the international community. The college really tries to make you feel like you are a part of a community.

I only ever had to use the blue box once. They are all over campus so use them if you need it. Also if you come back to campus late you can always call and get an escort. I have never felt unsafe on campus. It is well lit and there are always people out.

    Greek Life

I was not a part of the Greek life but I had alot of friends who found their homes and the best friends in the Greek life. If it interest you then check out rush week and see if it fits for you.

    Clubs and Activities

Look for a club that you are interested in. UNCG has a ton and you will be able to meet a lot of people with similar interest. If you are a good leader look into being a leader of the club.

Great for these types of students

If you like to work out do it in the morning the gym gets super busy at night. If you like to play basketball there is almost always a pick up game going on in the gym. Are you into music Tate Street coffee has live music all the time.

    Bang for the buck

All college is expensive. I loved my time at UNCG and can't wait to start my next semester. You get what you give. If you want a great college experience make sure to try new things and meet lots of people.

    What to do for fun

Join a club or play intramurals. I also met a few good friends going to classes in the gym. Go to the rock climbing wall during the frist week of classes it is usally free. Read the signs posted on doors and windows! There is always something fun to do.

    Food and Dining

Caf food is good but make sure to get enough food dollars to eat in the EUC. Also if you want soup the best place is the Cafe in Bryan. They have the best mac and cheese and soup!

    Dorm Life

Live on campus!! The dorms are pretty good. Try to live in the quad. Even the high rises aren't bad you will meet tons of people. It is a great experience you can't get anywhere else.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes didn't overwhelm me. If you are having problems talk with the professor they are usually so willing to help those who ask. If you don't want to ask the professor ask some students if they want to create a study group. Most people do they just don't want to ask.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to go to college ave on the frist day and join a club! Don't think your room mate has to be your best friend. Live on campus, you will meet more people and be more involved!

    In three sentences

You won't find a school that has a better laid out campus. Professors are super friendly and helpful. The class sizes are perfect for the type of classes.

There are on- campus jobs you can consider for money such as themeal places in the EUC ( starbucks, Chick fil a) or you can hep out in the science buildings and get involved in internships.

    What to do for fun

For fun there are certain activities you and participate in within your buildings or clubs within your school. There is Tate street that has coffee sit ins where u can enjoy a nice hot coco and talking with your friends.

    Food and Dining

The food here does not taste the best and if not used to it makes your stomach way upset. The dining area was just remodeled and looks very nice but the conditions of it still smell like mold in certain areas.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is not the best thing to be involved in if your OCD about anything like germs or neatness. The dorms are very small and hard to manage. Invest in an apartment.

    Academic Rigor

The courses here are challenging but its college and it will get harder.

    Tips for prospective students

Try living in a apartment if you can, if not definitely bring shoes to shower in! Also, if you don't like the same food everyday i suggest saving up money for grocery shopping and if you don't like far walks bring a bike.

    Campus Safety

When it comes to campus safety the school is covered. When you sign up for their school text messages, they are sure to send at least messages when someone who can not be recognized enters the school. At times it can get a bit annoying. They also have campus police you will answer to your every call. If you need someone you walk you to your dorm after a long night of studying or working they are there for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Near the library on our campus, there is a hug rock in which people can right on. People have dump people, propose and much more. The only rule is that you have to wait 24 hours before erasing what someone else wrote and rewriting on it. The time in which it can be replaced is written on a smaller rock next to the larger one.

    Bang for the buck

This school is a great when it comes to finances. To me it seems like you are provided with more than you pay for. the use of your money seems to not only be shown through food items or school related items such as books but also through the wonderful teachers. Sure there are those teachers who you wonder is doing teaching but they are out weighted by the wonderful teacher who take the time better you.

    What to do for fun

UNCG has something for everyone. They have a big event at the being of the year about all the clubs and events that can be found on campus. There are free sports events that people on campus can go to for free with a UNCG id. There are also a large number of clubs to take part of such as Spanish club, student government and more. And if you get bored with being on campus, there is a free campus bus that can take you to the mall or other campuses to visit friends.

    Food and Dining

The food... It has its good days and its really bad days. Since the school has to be careful on what they put in the food, such as peanut oils and other stuff, the food can lack a bit of flavor a times. The cookies are personally one of favorite deserts that is served. But I strongly suggest that you be careful how much food you enjoy. There is also a variety of fast food places to each at, such as taco bell, pizza hut, subway and more. You will be amazed how much wait people can gain in such a short period time.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is different for everyone you meet. For some its a living nightmare for others its where you meet your life long friend. I personally have gotten to the point of having best friends in my dorm room but its not bad. It great to be away from your parents. Kind of like having your own apartment just a roommate a bit more in your personal space.

    Academic Rigor

The course is not hard but its also something that you can sleep on. The work for me is different from the work that is handed to you in high school. Your work is about more than just memorizing what you need but about thinking outside the box and critically.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips I have for prospective students is to come to college with a idea or goal for yourself in mind. It is also important to take time in everything from academics, socail life and even time for your self. This will be the best time of your life. Its a time where you get to know who you are away from your family. Sure there will be times when you want to just sit around but its important to use all the time you have wisely. One moment you will be relaxing the next you will be stressing to get a paper done that is due within an hour.

    What to do for fun

Usually, my oomate and I attend the movies that UNCG show every weekend. They can be consistent with events that can catch usually catch my interest when I attend them. If I need a break from campus, I usually go shopping or go clubbing.

    Food and Dining

The food here is okay. They are not as varied as they portray because they constantly have the same food everyday. It all depends on what you like and your choice in food.

    Dorm Life

At UNCG the dorms here are exceptional, but could be better. You have to be social to be able to know everyone on your floor and sometimes it can get noisy depending on who lives on your floor. I'll just be careful about using the elevators, sometimes you can get stuck!

    Academic Rigor

As the semester go by, the work will become harder. During freshman year, you will have a lot of essays and research to complete. If you take biology, chemistry, philosophy or psychology, you will be challenged. As long as you study and stay focus, the work should be manageable

    Tips for prospective students

The UNCG college is huge and may be overwhelming at first, but overtime you will adopt to the environment and the number of people here. Always, always stay on top of your work and don't get into a habit of procrastination or you will find yourself staying way past your bed time.

To be honest, there isn't all that much to do around Greensboro unless you're into the party scene. There are some cool hookah bars around and every once in awhile there is music at some coffee shops downtown. As far as on campus, not many people stick around on weekends and so even when there are events there aren't many people there. The free movies on weekends are cool.

    Food and Dining

Depending on what you get there it can be really good or really bad. Pasta is usually safe and the same goes for anything fried. Meatloaf is fairly good too, Asian is terrible.

    Dorm Life

I stayed in honors dorms and didn't like it all that much. My RA was awesome but other than that I didn't associate with people much because we had nothing in common. Some of my friends dorms like PH were much cooler and much closer knit.

Here it all depends on what your major is. Some are more rigorous than others. Science classes seem to be hard for everyone, and there are many international teachers in mathematics that can be hard to understand.

Great for these types of students

Sciences, Business and Art students flock to this school. Teachers and Interior Design are also extremely popular here.

Spirit rock is available to be painted by students for any reason you'd like. Check it out near the cafeteria fountain.

    Bang for the buck

Much cheaper than many colleges and it offers a great education.

    What to do for fun

Plenty of parties occur on or near campus. Dance clubs/bars/live music are all nearby too on Walker St and Downtown. Those are all walkable/bikeable distances or easily reached by bus. Greensboro also offers a large coliseum for large events and tons of shopping and food options. There are several golf courses (including one on campus!) and parks in the area.

    Food and Dining

Major renovations have taken place to the cafteria and food courts around school. Greensboro offers many off-campus options that will become staples for your tenure here.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is good here! Many of the facilities have been upgraded recently including the food options!

    Academic Rigor

It is by no means Harvard or Duke. UNCG offers a very interactive and thorough learning experience. Make sure you spend some extra time each week speaking with your professors and program leaders outside of normal class or meeting hours.

    Tips for prospective students

Splurge on the extra money for a parking deck spot. It will save you so much time getting to class. Get involved on campus! There are so many programs at UNCG. Diversify your interests!

    In three sentences

UNCG is a beautiful campus and a school with diverse choices. Science, Arts and Business are just a few of the major programs on campus. This college is big enough to matter but small enough to where you will not be lost in the crowd.

Every where, there are these street lights in case of an emergency you push the button. Or if you feel uncomfortable walking you can ask for an escort. They have self defense classes and most importantly, when ever possible walk with a partner to lessen a situation that might happen. Over all, I feel comfortable.

    Greek Life

I signed up for a sorority, I hope I am chosen.

    Clubs and Activities

Too many to list. It depends on what you want to do and enjoy.

    JOIN A LEARNING COMMUNITY

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do. I am planning on joining the Volleyball team and there is the fitness room. Yum Yums is just across the street. THE BEST ICE CREAM! RAWKIN WEEK was great so much information just before classes started.

    Food and Dining

You can't beat it. I can eat as much as I want and when I want. As as freshman you have 2 choices. Both cost the same price so when you're signing up for meals just go ahead and get the unlimited swipes.

    Dorm Life

I love my DORM. There are quite a few floors which mean more people to interact with and to go to the library with and walk across campus.

    Academic Rigor

It's all still a bit hectic trying to figure it all out.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Don't wait for others to approach you. YOU go meet them. More friends mean more succession.

    In three sentences

This school is AMAZING! So much to do and quite a few activities to get involved with. There is a lot of support to help you succeed.

    Bang for the buck

    UNCG is worth every penny!

    What to do for fun

There are so many opportunities on campus to have fun. From cookouts on the lawn to movies and concerts, life is never dull here!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is great, with fresh food every day! It makes being away from mom's cooking that much easier!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great and the RA's definitely know how to help first year students!

    Academic Rigor

The classes are difficult, but the professors do not overload you.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't walk under the clock tower - you won't graduate on time. If you want to do well on exams, take a bite of an apple and leave it at the foot of Minerva (the goddess on campus).

    What to do for fun

Go downtown, shopping at the Friendly Center, nature walking, coffee shops, sit around campus.

    Food and Dining

The student center provides a lot of good opportunities and there is always a good spread of options for the cafeteria and tastes good!

    Dorm Life

It depends on what dorms. Newer, renovated ones are beautiful, but the older ones are a bit gross.

    Academic Rigor

The professors push you to go farther and get stronger, but the amount of work makes sense.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to talk with your roommate about the tough things - it is good training for later in life. Say no to drugs, but not to new opportunities. Make school your number one.

The RAWK- huge rock where people spray paint events UNCG Dove- Dove that lives on campus and walks around The Fountain- area in front of the Cafe where people hang and have fun/ display talents EUC- where the good food is

    Bang for the buck

It is my dream school. There are lots of activities and its easy to make friends just by walking up to people and saying HI. Its easy to join clubs and find out about them on the internet. Its very safe and you see the police officers quite frequently on campus and they are friendly. The education is spot on and people are willing to help out .If you are out of state like I am the tuition is double so keep that in mind and APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!!!! As far as majors, there are plenty and I highly recommend double majoring in areas that are closely related so that the classes overlap and you have plenty of time to study abroad or take extra electives.

    What to do for fun

I applied to join a learning community before I got to campus. We do a lot of activities and a few field trips. There are many activities that go on during the weekends on campus but you can also take the HEAT bus to the science center/sciquarium, greensboro coliseum for a show or the mall to window shop, eat or catch a movie. You can also stay o campus and watch people dance and put on shows at the fountain.

    Food and Dining

There are many places to eat but if you run out of flex/ spartan cash things can get tight. Be sure to vary between going to the cafeteria and ordering in/out. Cafe food can be really good but also fattening if you are not careful and it is repetitive alot.

    Dorm Life

I am not really a dorm person. I am in the Honors dorm and I just do not like sharing my space and bathrooms. However, dorms are great for making friends in your freshman year.

    Academic Rigor

The content can be challenging but it is easy to comprehend if you stick with it and stay on tract/ up to date with readings and homework. Teachers make it easy for you to get help if you simply...............ASK

    Tips for prospective students

Be warned that the campus has multiple smokers and you will discover people who are wayyyy away from your beliefs and personality. Meet new people but hold on to YOU! Although it is pretty safe on campus do not walk around outside by yourself after 11:30pm. Be open minded and respectful of others. Get into different organizations, especially those with Ethnicity titles because they are welcoming groups that just want to educate others and have fun(sn: good for finding leadership positions). Get involved, take the bus, venture with friends OFF campus. Do your work even when no one tells you to because it can be easy to fall waaaayyyyy behind and get off tract. HAVE FUN

    In three sentences

The school is really pretty with plenty places to eat but crappy when you run out of flex and are stuck with repetitive food from the cafe. For the most part the Professors are friendly and engaging with few exceptions. The faculty make it easy for you to find resources for whatever you want assistance with or simply want to learn.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of things to do for fun. The mall is at a close distance from the campus and there are also decent restaurant in which you can go with your friends and have a good meal. Also, the museums near by are very beautiful and educational.

    Food and Dining

I food is at times good, but there are days in which the food is not good. On the positive side, every Wednesdays the cafeteria serves fried chicken.

    Dorm Life

Moore/strong is currently where I am staying and I love it here. However, other dorms such as Bailey and the Quads are also beautiful residences halls.

    Academic Rigor

This school has a varieties of great majors. Also, UNCG has a very great nursing program. The courses are somewhat changeling; thus, it is recommended to attend class regularly and study.

    Tips for prospective students

A tip, from me to you, would be to be well prepared to write AP style. Normally, MLA style is taught in high school, but such style is hardly used in universities.

    In three sentences

    Food and Dining

The food at the cafe is great, but not always the best. There are many great places to eat around campus other than the cafe as well.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life on campus is amazing. There are a lot of great programs that are held in each dorm, and its a very community like atmosphere.

    Academic Rigor

The classes at UNCG are not completely easy, but just as long as you make use of your learning resources anyone can do just fine.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

My fun lately consists of studying and sitting around watching movies. There isn't too much to do but going to the movies or the mall is always a good time.

We have the Blue light system set up all around campus as well as two police stations on either side of campus so never fear! UNCG Police are near!

Great for these types of students

UNCG is a very liberal school-- it's not a freak show though. Just plan to be open minded when walking on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a clock tower that's cursed! If you walk under it before you graduate, you're destined not to graduate on time! The clock tower is located right beside the Rawk-- our creative message board! People paint the rock with events coming up and show support for fellow Spartans! Also, we have Minerva. Throughout the school year, you'll walk by and see apples located at the bottom of her statue because if you present her with that gift, she's rumored to give you good luck on upcoming exams.

    Bang for the buck

Absolutley. UNCG is a medium sized campus-- not as large as a lot of state schools but definitely not smaller than a private school. There's always lots of courses and sections available so it's difficult to not get the classes you want and need each semester. The dorm and living standards are definitely worth the money. I mean UNCG is one of the cheaper state schools in North Carolina anyway. It's awesome!

    What to do for fun

Walker Ave is famous for housing some of the fraternities and sororities on campus so a lot of students go there for local parties. Downtown Greensboro is the hot spot for College Night (Thursdays) as well as the weekend. The mall is a street and a couple of blocks over. We have tons of buses that can take you to shopping centers or downtown to watch a Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball game or go to the park. We also have a gym that hosts tons of intramural sports and activities for the sporty type and fun group exercise classes like Zumba and Pilates! There's tons of clubs you can also get involved in.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria actually has good food. The staff is great! They have pleasant attitudes and work hard. The dining hall always comes up with new events and seasonal foods and Fried Chicken Wednesday with soul food is amazing! We also have other food choices like Chick-Fil-A, Taco Bell, Subway, Jamba Juice, Pizza Hut, Salsarita's, Papa Johns, Starbucks, and so much more! There are mini marts around campus and there are tons of places you can order from that deliver to the dorms. Oh, and you can't forget about Yum Yums-- amazing ice cream and hot dogs! We also have Tate Street on campus which is a popular hang out with restaurants (that take your SpartanCard), shopping places, coffee houses, and a few bars for the older crowd. All in all, you'll never run out of anything to eat and everything is within a reasonable amount of walking distance.

    Dorm Life

The dorm's here at UNCG are all pretty awesome. We continue to renovate and build new housing for students so you have plenty of housing choices. The RA's are awesome and outgoing and fun. There are constantly activities going on in each residence hall so you'll never be bored and it's easy to make friends living in a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The courses here at UNCG are difficult but manageable. It's easy to do well in your courses if you stay on top of your work and study. It's also easy to fall behind. You syllabus is your best friend and all the courses you take are an opportunity for you to gain knowledge and that's the true reason you're in college so the rigor is tough yet manageable as long as you do what you're supposed to do.

    Tips for prospective students

I know it sounds cliche but time management is key. You will have A LOT of free time that you didn't have in high school and you should absolutely take advantage of it when you have it-- it'll save you so much time and stress later. Also, talk to your professors especially early on. Establish a relationship with them so that if you begin to struggle, you won't feel so intimidated to go talk to them during their office hours. Don't be afraid! Put yourself out there because college is all about what you make it!

    In three sentences

UNCG has a gorgeous campus all year round! The professors I've had so far are awesome and love enthusiastic students which makes the classroom and lectures so much more exciting to be in. There are so many food options, clubs/activities, and dorms to choose from and you won't regret coming here!

    Campus Safety

People get shot and mugged all over the place here! One of the biggest jokes on campus is about our security not doing anything about crimes on campus and not being able to locate suspects. It's awful, but I've lived in Greensboro long enough to know not to leave my room without a friend. The campus is really nice at night though, so it's sad that most people don't feel safe enough to go out alone.

    Greek Life

I don't know much about Greek Life here, but it seems pretty nice. They're very close knit, but sometimes they stand outside of the EUC and holler at people, which is rather annoying. They also do some really cool events for charity throughout the year.

    Clubs and Activities

Most of the clubs here didn't capture my interest, but there are a few things that I got involved in that I really enjoyed and loved. They're some of the only things that made my time here worth it.

Great for these types of students

Students that want to party or don't want to be challenged academically would probably like it here. Also, anyone that wants to be located in a bigger city.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One tradition we have is that people put apples on our statue of Minerva for good luck!

    Bang for the buck

I've had the worst experience of my life coming to UNCG, and I'm someone that really cherishes their education. Although there are some very nice things about this place, I don't think it justifies the price tag to come here. Of course, this is a personal opinion and there's several people that would disagree, but it's just not for me.

    What to do for fun

There are a few parties that happen around Greensboro, and Thursday nights are club nights, so if you're into that, you'll like it here. There's also a few campus-wide events from time to time. There's also a lot to do around Greensboro if you have a car or can get there via the Heat buses.

    Food and Dining

The food on UNCG's campus is awful. Same things almost every single day, and they don't usually taste that great. If you come here, don't get the unlimited meal plan, because you will not use it. The EUC has better options, so you'll need flex instead. The cafe just sucks, and again, there's only one on campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It gets loud from time to time, but it's generally quiet here. There's not usually any parties going on in the dorms, but there are drug problems sometimes. The people on your hall will usually talk to you and the people I've come into contact with are all pretty friendly and nice. Very open atmosphere in the dorms, I think.

    Academic Rigor

I personally don't think the courses here are too hard or challenging at all. It's really easy to pass them as long as you show up for class and study your notes. The one bad grade I have currently is more a result of being so bored in class that I stop paying attention rather than it being a result of difficulty. Just pay attention and you'll be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely get help when you need it. If there's one good thing about UNCG, it's the numerous opportunities to get help. There's tutors everywhere, and professors are really accessible. Don't go to the cafe during lunch on Wednesdays if you don't have to; there's usually a line going down both staircases. Explore Greensboro, but be careful at night!

    In three sentences

UNCG is definitely not the worst college I could've gotten into, but it's close. Most of the people here are very rude and unapproachable from my experience, although the staff and workers here are the complete opposite. Also, only having one cafeteria open this year, it gets pretty crowded during lunch time.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of options on campus as well as off in the town of Greensboro. Tate street is a good destination not to mention the EUC, Bojangles and other close restaurants.

    Dorm Life

You are going to have to get used to people that might not be your favorite unless you can get moved. Also don't make any bad relationships when you are in college, You may need anyone.

There are even options for those of you who eat gluten free. The Elliot University Center has Subway, Wildgreens, Salsaritas, Starbucks, burgers, chinese, Papa Johns, Chick fil A, and a few others that escape my mind. You could never go hungry at UNCG.

    Dorm Life

Resident Advisor's are constantly planning events for the dorm. Also, there are tons of ways to get hooked up with a roommate you actually enjoy spending time with. And you have so many housing options - even as a freshman! I loved my time in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

You will have hard classes and easy classes in your time as a student, but they will all be worth it. My classes I have had to put the most effort into have honestly been my favorite. I worked my butt off for a B in physiology, but I learned more than I did in my easy A+ nutrition course. There are so many opportunities for help too, whether it be SIP or LAC tutoring or Academic Skills (I promise, if you go here all of those acronyms will make sense to you). Professors are willing to sit down with you one on one to go over a test or something you're confused on. So the academics might be hard, but you have the opportunity to excel.

    Tips for prospective students

When in doubt, try it! (unless it pertains to drugs or alcohol, obviously) I've found so many new things I like to do, like to eat, etc just by being open minded. Turns out I like to go swing dancing, enjoy fake chicken from vegetarian restaurants, and love to mentor younger students. All things I never would've known if wouldn't have said yeah sure, I'll try that. Point being, you never discover your full potential until you test your own limitations.

    In three sentences

Summing up UNCG in three sentences is a challenge, but first off UNCG is diverse - there is nothing you cannot find on campus if you're looking. UNCG is opportunity - be it academic, social, research, faith, relationships, friendships - there is opportunity for all of these and more. Lastly UNCG is a home away from home, no matter how far away your real home is

    Clubs and Activities

There are several clubs on campus that you can participate in.There are even groups you could join that pretain to your major. You could be in the sociology or biology club for example. There are also events always occuring on weekends like movie nights or even events for homecoming. We also have groups which have to do with outdoor adventures. You can go on hiking trips, water rafting etc.

Great for these types of students

I feel like this school is great for people who are considering to be a art, music or theater major.

    What to do for fun

They also have waffle makers and ceral out the whole day.. if you ever want breakfeast other then the morning.

    Dorm Life

The Freshman dorms are a little small but the suites and on campus apartments are great. The dorm in which I stay in I feel is great It is the Quads. You can get your own room and bathroom that you share with your suitemate. Another thing that all dorms have is 24 hour visitation which is great there is no curfew.

    Academic Rigor

Academic Rigor is great. Most of the teachers that I have been nice teachers who when you ask for help will help you out. The work load is managable although some teachers will give you a lot of work even if you do have other classes to worry about. Most of the time they will hear you out if you have a problem or do not understand.

    Tips for prospective students

Some of the tips that I have for prospective students is to make sure to take advantage of the career services office in the Euc building. In this office they give you career tips, help on your resume and so much more. It is also good to start looking for internships so you could get more experience in what you want to do,even volunteering and getting involved in a club works.

    Bang for the buck

I didn't know what to expect coming into UNCG, and although it's a nice, usually clean campus, it's rather small and pretty boring. UNCG is known for being one of the cheaper schools in North Carolina, which is great. Financial Aid is pretty tight around here, so you're left to find scholarships, grants, loans, etc.

    What to do for fun

The only thing to really do for fun around here is clubbing, and I chose not to experience that. However, a lot of students at UNCG go out on Thursdays (by the way, if you come here, Thursdays are actually Fridays for some people) and go to the clubs. I've heard that joining a sorority or fraternity can be fun as well.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria really is a hit or miss. As far as healthy options go, UNCG has two salad bars and that's pretty much it. Somedays they have tasty options, and other days, it's a different story. The Spartan Market usually has some good options, I'd recommend going there instead of the caf.

    Dorm Life

In my experience, dorm life wasn't all that fabulous. Some dorms are nicer than others, however, but be sure to stay away from the High Rises - Cone, Reynolds, and Grogan. The dorm rooms are terribly small and don't leave students any room to breathe. Be very careful when applying for housing; apply early, and look into UNCG's housing and residence life options!

    Academic Rigor

I can't speak for all majors, minors, or even just individual classes. From my experience, the classes here are somewhat challenging, and staying focused is key. I'm sure some majors require different levels of commitment and time; the academic rigor here is based solely on what you decide to do!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to tour the campus and get a feel of Greensboro before deciding to enroll here; be completely sure that this is the perfect fit for you! If you decide to come here, be sure to stay focused on your academics more than anything.

    In three sentences

UNCG is a beautiful campus, completely full of potential. This university really means it when they say that they are all about diversity; the students here are from all over the country, and even the world!

Excellent!!! There are blue light posts strategically placed throughout campus where you can press an emergency button and a campus police officer will be there within 90 seconds guaranteed. Who wouldn't feel safe with this system in place?

    Bang for the buck

This is by far one of the cheaper colleges in NC, even for out-of-state tuition. However, you don't sacrifice a great quality education at the same time.

    Food and Dining

The Cafe is buffet style and has grilles and different bar stations on the sides of the cafe, which make for a great variety. There are also many restaurants to eat at on campus such as Bojangles, Subway, Salsaritas, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A, Jamba Juice, Starbucks and more. Also, many different dining places off campus near by. You don't even need your car because the Campus and City bus systems take UNCG students free of charge to many areas of Greensboro.

There are two tower clocks that you should not walk under if you attend school here. Legend has it that if you do you will not graduate on time. There is a rock on campus that you can paint and it can not be painted over for 24 hours. Lots of clubs use this and students write special messages on it for their friends. There is a statue named Menirva at the school who used to be our mascot when this was considered an all girl school. You leave a bitten apple by her and she will bring you luck for your upcoming exams.

    Bang for the buck

In comparison to other NC schools this one I found to be the most affordable and the highest credentials.

    What to do for fun

There's usually something going on that you can get involved with on campus or near. If you know the right people, you won't be bored. Just make a good group of friends and be outgoing. It's easier said then done I know but it'll be worth it in the end.

    Food and Dining

The food is what you'd expect it to be. It gets tiring after a while eating the same thing so prepare to make your own food or go out often because you will not want to eat at the dining hall everyday. Luckily there's a lot of on campus eating places, like bojangles and chick fil a that accept spartan cash. There's also tons of places right off campus that won't accept spartan cash but are cheap enough that it won't burn a hole in your wallet.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in a dorm, I live in an apartment off campus. Whenever I visit my dorming friends though, i'm always surprised with the cleanliness of the place and how nice they actually are. They're pricey, but if you have the budget for it, I recommend an apartment on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes you'll be able to breeze through, others you'll have to work really hard to get an A. It really depends on the class, the professor, and your work ethic. So long as you're trying, your grades will likely reflect that.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be shy. This school has a lot of fun things to do if you know people. A lot of students live off campus, sometimes farther away (Winston-Salem, High Point), so make friends who live on or near campus if you want stuff to do on weekends.

    In three sentences

There's a lot of opportunities at this school, you just have to seek them out. If you work hard and don't slack, you'll do well. Most professors are really nice and willing to work with you so long as you demonstrate that you're actually trying.
