Great for these types of students

this school would be great for students who really want to focus on their school. the student teacher ratios are very low compared to other universities so be ready to be accommodated when you need a little extra help.

    Tips for prospective students

Yes its a bit pricey but its a private school so now matter where you are from you pay the same as Florida residents. the counselors are more then helpful if you have any questions i would email them they will for sure clear up any questions they can. the school also is very good about giving grants. Make sure if you think you need help with tuition you apply for the aid

Great for these types of students

Students who are determined and hard-working looking for a great education. If you like small classes and being able to work with your professors this is the college for you. The sports teams are also very good and UT offers a lot of clubs and interactive events.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour of the college and definitely attend the open house days. Talk to some of the students and professors and make sure you feel like UT is the college for you. If you're going to apply make sure you also apply for their scholarships and grants. That will help you a lot and you will probably receive at least one. If you need any help or have any questions don't be afraid to talk to a counselor or advisor. They are more than happy to help you anytime and are quick to respond.

    Bang for the buck

It is a very expensive school but you will get your money's worth.

    Am enjoying being here

The environment is great and the location is very nice. The whole campus makes you feel like you're at home.

    Am learning a lot

Since the class sizes are so small, the professors are able to focus more on the individual students and therefore make sure that you do learn and pass the class.

Great for these types of students

University of Tampa is especially great for students who want the feel of a large university within a much smaller environment. We have so much here on campus all withing walking distance, you don't have to ride a bike to get from building to building. It's also a great school if you live in Florida as I do, you can live on campus and have the independence, but still not be that far away in case you need something from home. Another plus, no expenses to travel home during breaks.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply here early. Tour the campus, get the full picture. You will love what you see.

    Bang for the buck

I believe I am getting the best education possible. University of Tampa is a private school with a lot of class.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here in the heart of Tampa Bay. Close to movie theaters, museums, sports arenas, and much more. The campus is beautiful, and the dorms are spacious.

    Am learning a lot

The University of Tampa is a great learning environment. The small class sizes and a no teaching assistants policy, help in getting the most out of every class. It is easier to learn when you aren't one out of a class of 400, and when only professors with PhD's are actually doing the teaching.

Great for these types of students

Definitely a great Business school. The business programs are amazing and you learn so much. Also look into the study abroad programs!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't ever wait until the last minute with anything. If something needs to get done, like financial aid or a hold on your account. Just get it done as soon as you can. If not, you'll be stuck waiting in line for hours with the other students who procrastinated.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Tampa is one of the most expensive schools I applied for. I could have gone to a much cheaper school. But with everything I'm learning and how much I enjoy college, I'd say it's worth it. The only problem is trying to get all the financial aid I can get.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus has an old-world feel that's very unique to downtown Tampa. The minarets are beautiful and walking anywhere on campus doesn't take long at all. And the other students are very friendly and helpful.

    Am learning a lot

I'm actually a transfer student. So I've experienced an out of state college before. I'm now living at home and decided to give UT a chance. The class sizes vary but are usually very small so the teachers know you by name. They are very flexible with office hours and trying to find you help. They aren't here to make sure you get an A, they're there to make sure you understand all of the concepts. I'd rather get a B and understand the material than get an A and understand nothing.

    Campus Safety

every resident hall is very secure as you need a spartan id card activated for that specific residence hall to gain access. in addition, at night there are security guards posted at the entry desk in residence halls. security officers are constantly patrolling campus. laser team is also available to drive students across campus in the evenings. this is particularly valuable resource if you are studying late in the library or were hanging out in a friends dorm. it is a free and safe way to get across campus!

    Clubs and Activities

sports clubs, debate team, extreme elite, quidditch, scuba club, greek life, student productions, free exercise courses are the gym... if you can name it ut probably has a club for it!

Great for these types of students

students who enjoy smaller class sizes because of the increased potential for academic success. students who enjoy being involved in volunteer work and clubs. students who are very social and wish to meet students from all over the world.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the university of tampa has two annual volunteer events, that students may participate in. in to the streets in the fall, and the martin luther king day of service in the spring. both are a lot of fun, let you meet new students, and let you explore and help the local community.

    Bang for the buck

the university of tampa provides a lot of activities, counseling resources, a great clinic, good food, and wonderful residence halls. the professors are all highly professional and trained, and are willing to talk to students outside of class. the small class sizes really make the cost of ut worth it because you are able to discuss issues with your professors and you are more than just a face in the crowd to them. nearly two years after taking an honors english course, my professor still waves to me if we cross on campus, and asks how i am doing.

    What to do for fun

student production is constantly having free movie nights, exam jams (massive parties in vaughn during exam week), and other events. the peace organization is a great resource to get involved and volunteer in the community. the residence life association has different events going on in the evening and on many weekends. the pool is a common hangout spot -- even in the winter! there are also club teams for people who like to do sports, in addition to tons of other clubs!

    Food and Dining

the university offers a wide variety of dining plans which are very flexible based on your needs. in addition, the cafeteria has some pretty great food in a wide variety of areas (salad bar, a grill, international section, sandwiches, vegetarian, and classics to name a few). spartan club also offers la havana (which has delicious cuban food), a chick-fil-a, fresh creations (a really great salad and wrap place which makes it the way you want it!), an einstein's bagels, and a grill. the other food court is located in stadium center which has a green grocery with a sushi bar, a pandini's, panache (which serves classy lunches!), a barbecue joint, a dairy queen/orange julius, a coffee shop, and a really great burrito place. the university of tampa offers such a wide variety of options, it is really easy to find something that will satisfy any cravings. plus, meal plans come with spartan dollars, which are flexible dollars which can be used to purchase ice cream, and other foods!

    Dorm Life

i personally love the dorms here. the dormitories on campus are very nice, there is a cleaning staff that cleans the bathrooms, and dorms are centrally located on campus.the ras (resident advisers) are usually very friendly, and they throw many fun events throughout each semester. games, music, free food and freebies -- what is there not to like?

    Academic Rigor

the university of tampa offers a wide variety of honors courses for students who would like a more academically challenging environment. courses do typically require study time, and a lot of effort, but with the academic aid programs ut has to offer, no student should be struggling to much!

    Tips for prospective students

1)don't be afraid to check out the many clubs ut has to offer. there is an organization fair held at the beginning of each semester which allows you to talk to members firsthand. 2)take advantage of the saunder's writing center, or other academic aid programs. they are all free to use, and are easy to set up appointments with! 3)student productions, team chaos, the residence association, and other groups are constantly throwing fun events. take advantage of them. they are free, fun and a great way to meet new people.

    In three sentences

the university of tampa has a small but beautiful and convenient campus located in the heart of tampa. the small class sizes and wide variety of activities and clubs available to students make it very easy to get to know other students. in addition to great academic programs, ut also creates wonderful events for students to relax and enjoy everything the university has to offer.

Great for these types of students

Social butterflies adapt incredibly well. If you're a wallflower that wants a large group of friends, you're better off going to USF or UCF.

    Tips for prospective students

Spend most of your time when you can by the river and the library. Avoid the cafeteria from 2-4 pm. Be ready to find a nice quiet spot to concentrate on work away from the main buildings- people stare and get frustrated with you if you stay in one spot for over an hour. Bring extra nasal decongestants. Most of the classrooms in Plant Hall (the main building) reek of mold and always carry a jacket. Always check Rate My Professor before signing up for classes.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like I've wasted a lot of scholarships on a school that lies about staff to student ratios. Most of the professors can't bother to learn your name and half of the classrooms could use some serious work as does the food service.

    Am enjoying being here

Unless you're a social butterfly, it's hard to adapt to Tampa. The students aren't all that friendly and quite a few professors don't talk to the freshmen. The campus is pretty stunning, but looks aren't everything.

    Am learning a lot

There are plenty of interesting classes, but some of them just repeat the same information as the lower core classes. The professors have some interesting side facts and tangents that do make learning a little better.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who both love a social and academic life. Not the greatest school for people who love athletics.

    Tips for prospective students

Always make sure to have a couple of hundred dollars in your bank account for whatever the school might demand of you out of the blue. Take your studies well and do not go partying every Thursday.

    Bang for the buck

University of Tampa is a private school, so thus more expensive. I believe the school is over expensive and the students do get placed into hard situations because the school demands students to pay on very little notice.

    Am enjoying being here

The school has a great atmosphere that I love. Most of the people are very relaxed people. The school work and the money problems and deadlines do stress students out to an extreme.

    Am learning a lot

It depends on the teacher, but almost all of my teachers are very adequate at teaching the materials that I need to learn in the class. They also do not believe in just using a textbook, but actually make their classes do interactive assignments where students must go out in the campus or out into the city.

Great for these types of students

I think the University of Tampa is great for anybody! The classes are small, so make sure you are willing to be known by your professors. This school is made to fit more than one type of student; I think anyone who is a hard worker is a perfect fit for UT.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved as much as possible! Every extra connection you have makes a difference while you are at UT!

    Bang for the buck

The university is quite a pretty penny, but worth every cent of it! I wouldn't wish to spend my money any other way. The residence halls to the classrooms, the tuition money is spent well!

    Am enjoying being here

I have enjoyed every moment of being at the University of Tampa. There are over 150 clubs you can join to stay active on campus, something for everyone!

    Am learning a lot

I'm sure you have heard this before, but this University only hires professors that truly care about the student's progress. Because of this, I have learned more than I ever have. Every professor takes the time to get to know each individual student (due to the small class sizes!) which encourages active engagement in the classroom.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for kids who like a more one on one learning experience and like to get to know a variety of different people from a variety of different places, we have over 1000 international students! If you don't wanna take a twenty minute walk to your classes, get to know a lot of people, and have your teacher know who you are The University of Tampa is right for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared classes here aren't easy but you'll actually learn A LOT! Make sure you are working really hard in high school too because being a private college not many kids get in. Get good grades and be involved.

    Bang for the buck

Yes it is pricey but the school offers more grants and scholarships than any other school I applied to. When it came down to it I ended up paying about the same price for a better more personal education on a smaller campus.

    Am enjoying being here

I have a great time on campus. I live in one of the smallest dorms, it only has two floors and maybe 100 people, so i know everyone on my floor. We constantly go out and hangout together. It's never a dull moment. The school also has tons of programs and clubs to get involved in. We even have a club that shows movies almost every Friday!

    Am learning a lot

It's a private school so I don't have a single class with more than 30 people in it and all my teachers actually know my name. It makes learning so much easier because when you need help you professor is there and knows you instead of seeing you as just another nameless faceless student. There is also so many classes to take so you can pretty much learn anything you want and they'll probably offer a tutor for it too.

    What to do for fun

since i am at one of the hotels that the university has rented out i am grateful to be in downtown tampa. i love just walking out of the lobby into the bustle of the tampa life. i really enjoy walking down the streets and seeing where it leads me.

    Food and Dining

there are three places on campus that the university of tampa offers for its students. at times it can get old and boring, but that is why there is the cafeteria where options constantly change.

    Dorm Life

due to the overflow of students i have had the luxury of spending my time here at the university of tampa in hotels. although the shuttle schedule can be annoying to go through i believe it is worth it for the queen sized beds.

    Academic Rigor

the university of tampa makes sure that students builds their knowledge for the future. some of the course load can be very overwhelming, but the staff is there to make sure that you get through it.

    Tips for prospective students

students should get involved in as much as they can from the beginning. this helps build their resume and make them marketable for when they start searching for a career. starting now helps build references and future employers.

    In three sentences

the university of tampa is a great liberal arts school, with professors that will help you find your path. it offers great resources for its students in all aspects of study. ut is constantly growing and you get to meet people from all over the world, which helps students network with people from different places.

ut is really tight on security and making sure that students are safe. they send us e-mails about things that have happened, just so that we can be aware of what's going on.

    Greek Life

we do have a greek life. the only draw back is that since we are a small campus the students in a greek life do not stay in the same building. we don't have a specific place for the greek's to have their own dorm.

    gasparilla!!!!!!!!

    Bang for the buck

    downtown!!! and ybor city!!!!!

    What to do for fun

2 words: downtown tampa. there really is not a limit on what you can do for fun. there is the nightlife scene, which is really popular with some of the students. since i'm not really a party and drink kind of gal, i'm not the one that can tell you all the hot spots on that. i know that close by are beaches, ybor city, international mall. fun things that i've done was bike or walk around the city. there's a shooting range nearby. canoeing, kayaking, and fishing are some of the things you can do on the river. there's just so much, i'd take you all 4 years to do it all!

    Food and Dining

in all honesty, after a couple of months you will get sick of the food. so make sure that you get a food plan that does not tie you to the school. since it is downtown tampa you will always find somewhere different to eat. so make sure you have some extra money on the side so that when you get sick of campus food you can eat elsewhere.

    Dorm Life

the university of tampa has a great dorm life. that is how you get to know other people on campus. most students leave their doors open so that they can get to know their neighbors and it works out pretty well. now be aware that because it is a college there is still drinking going on in some dorms. just stay aware of it, because if your dorm advisers sees that happening and you are underage, they call security and that's when fines and arrests happen.

    Academic Rigor

the academics is what they focus on, so it is rigorous! the trick is to always stay ahead. before your classes start get the books and review. as the classes continue make sure to always stay ahead. in that way you'll get an a or b in the classes, but still have a social life.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are interested in the campus, i would advise you to visit the school in the spring. also visit the professors that coincide with your major, so that you can an idea of who you would see for the next 4 years. also explore the surrounding area, so that you would see what it is like off-campus.

    In three sentences

a private college that focuses on the students. they are not sports centered, but have a lacrosse team. historical buildings decorate the school.

The University of Tampa is a great institution. Here, I'm in a comfortable, safe environment with a lot of opportunities to study both what I want and what I need. The faculty is always around to help, and there are small classes.

    What to do for fun

The inter mural sports that are offered are fantastic. It gives you a chance to do the things that you love to do even if you were not able to play on the school team! It is a great feeling to be on the field with other students participating and having fun playing the games that you love!

    Food and Dining

On campus food is outstanding! There is nothing like eating the 5 star food from the campus restaurants!

    Dorm Life

I do not live in a dorm, so I would not know to the fullest extent just how this life is. Although, I do have a few friends that absolutely love life in the dorms!

    Academic Rigor

It is not all too rigorous to get in to this university, but it is also not easy! Being a veteran, I had to be on top of my game to be able to apply and get in to this school, especially after being out of classes for approximately three years.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say, go to see this school! Even if you are skeptical, the worst case scenario would be that you had an amazing trip to Tampa and got to view this wonderful school!

    In three sentences

When I toured the campus of this amazing institution, I was paralyzed with awe from the second that I got out of my vehicle.I could not believe my eyes; it was like I was in heaven on Earth. Not only was the campus amazing, but the courses and the volunteer guides for the tours were extremely knowledgable and helpful when we needed to know something.

    Campus Safety

There is usually a campus safety officer not too far away at any given spot on campus, however there are still several muggings/incidents per semester. Given the urban nature of the campus that is to be expected however.

    Greek Life

There if Greek life on campus, but it is not taken too seriously as there is not a 'Greek Row' or anything like that. The fraternities and sororities tend to be very clique-y, which is probably not unusual for any school.

    Clubs and Activities

While there is a decent variety of clubs, there are simply not enough quality activities that occur on campus. The student body is generally very apathetic about most everything aside from going to overpriced clubs and consuming alcohol which may lead to this issue. There are students on campus who genuinely put effort into improving what is offered on campus, but there is still a long way to go.

Great for these types of students

UT is best for business students who are looking to get by without too much of an academic challenge. Many students from NYC, Long Island, and Boston come to UT so if you are not from those areas (I myself am from Western New York which is a lot different from the other side of the state) you may feel a bit out of place. There are a lot of international students at this school also.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Plant Hall which houses many administrative offices as well as classrooms is the highlight of campus. This building used to be a hotel built by Henry Plant and has a lot of history behind it. Many famous people stayed at the hotel in the past. The unique architecture is one of the most recognizable buildings in the Tampa Bay Area and an attraction for tourists.

    Bang for the buck

A relatively affordable option if you want to go to a private, out of state university. UT has plenty of money, which leads to most students getting generous financial aid offers. The academics and size of the school are what give it it's value and make up for the lack of traditional things prospective students make look for in a school.

    What to do for fun

You will need a car here if you plan on doing much of anything. There are few events on campus worth attending which is an issue. Many of the popular destinations in the Tampa Bay Area are not within walking distance of campus with the exception of the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Beaches are at least 30 mins away. If you do not have a car, cabs will get very expensive, very quick.

    Food and Dining

There is a decent variety of food on campus. On top of the traditional dining hall which is very popular, there is also Mexican, Cuban, a grill, Italian, BBQ, Chick Fil a, Einsteins Bagels, and a DQ.

    Dorm Life

Beautiful dorms. Of all the schools I visited when college shopping, UT by far took the cake (I also visited UCF, Pitt, Maryland, Duquesne, etc.) Most of the dorms are very new and clean with the exception of McKay. Be sure to get your housing deposit in early enough though so you are not stuck in the Howard Johnson hotel which is used as an overflow dorm (it is located about 5 minutes from campus.)

    Academic Rigor

Most likely an average level of academic rigor. Some professors are much more demanding than others, even if they are teaching the same class. There are challenging classes, but nothing that is not manageable. The faculty want you to succeed here.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you realize this will not be your typical college environment. It is not in a little college town, but rather downtown Tampa (some of which is a bit shady). There is little to no school spirit despite the Division II athletics being consistently successful. With that being said, many people find that the beautiful campus, strong faculty and beautiful dorms make up for what it lacks.

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa offers a beautiful campus in an urban environment. This school offers a standard variety of majors to choose from, but the college of business is what the school is most known for academically. This school attracts lots of people from out of state, and has a diverse student body.

Campus is located in the heart of Tampa (downtown) there are plenty of places to party like Channel side, Hyde Park local bars, the beach, Bush Gardens theme park and Island of Adventure. You will not be bore!

    Food and Dining

They have a wide range of selections from Mexican food, pasta, BBQ, Cuban, and much more. I'm sure you would not be disappointed.

I'm a commuter but from what I hear dorm life is pretty cool.

    Tips for prospective students

Plant park (Party in the park which is the spring concert), Dance Happening, Relay for Life, Orientation trip to Busch Gardens

    Bang for the buck

The school is a little expensive, and the school claims they are poor. Sometimes the money is spent on stupid stuff that is unneeded, but I believe what I am getting out of te school is well worth it!

    What to do for fun

There's lots for night life, also there is Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoo, and the aquarium. Beaches are about 30 minutes away and Orlando is a little over and hour away. There is also two malls close by!

    Food and Dining

The caf has its good and bad days, I am sometimes surprised how good the food can be. There is also stadium were you can do meal eexchanges for many great choices; burritos, pasta, sushi, et.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are pretty good except really for Mckay. But, the school keeps accepting way more students than they have room for so some students are put in a hotel off campus but there is a shuttle to get to and from campus. A new dorm is underway and should be up in 2013.

    Academic Rigor

So far I have been challenged in a good way in all my classes, and all my professors have been helpful!

    Tips for prospective students

It is a bit of a party school but it is also a good school that is working hard on getting itself back on top!

    In three sentences

I LOVE this school, professor's are helpful, there's lots to do, beautiful campus, and the school can connect you to many different professions for all!

I have yet to attend college but, i have reviewed what i need to complete for my major and minor and i believe it will be fun, challenging and helpful to my future. UT also has many internship opportunities, study abroad and other activities t help move you forward.

    Tips for prospective students

We are safe. That being said, UT security has an air of entitlement to it that is undeserved. Incidents of happened, of course, but I'm not scared to walk from my dorm to a gas station for snacks.

    Greek Life

The parties are fun. The people can be hit or miss.

    Clubs and Activities

UT specific clubs are pretty fun. I've been involved in a couple but choose not to now only because I don't get as much out of it as I've grown and learned more over the years.

Great for these types of students

To be blunt, this place is especially great for people who love Fraternity's or Sorority's. In the school's defense, though, I do not partake in Greek life and I have befriended genuine and talented people who do.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Gasparilla. Every year in January the city of Tampa shuts down its main roads for what is essentially a pirate-themed Mardi Gras. The residence assistants will cook breakfast for each student in their hall and the students start drinking as early as 7am. Then we walk around the city watching the parade and seeing thousands of people. Best time of my life.

    Bang for the buck

This school is a ton of money. That said I don't think I could've gone any place else in the country in terms of the skills and life lessons I've learned.

    What to do for fun

The night life in Tampa is one of the best in the country. On any given night there is a place to go. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays I've had the most fun. The weekend starts on Thursday here at UT. New spots are constantly being promoted to the school.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is not the place to go. Most of the time a meal will sound good but not taste good. The other places on campus however; Salsa Rico (Mexican) or Pandinis (Italian) serve quality food that only gets boring because I eat it almost every day.

    Dorm Life

I don't usually go to residence hall activities or meetings but the dorm life itself is quite good. My room is just big enough to be comfortable and the apartment style suite is great for having friends over and relaxing.

    Academic Rigor

It's pretty easy to spot the students that don't care about their grades. That being said, UT is a great place to find people who also let their work speak for them and who know that a GPA doesn't necessarily make or break a person.

    Tips for prospective students

-Get to know your professor's on a closer level, it makes it easier to pay attention in class. -When picking courses keep in mind that while 8am classes suck, going to class when your friends are winding down and relaxing also sucks. -Don't walk to or from any of the clubs/bars. -If you smoke, don't do it in Plant Park

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa is a bastion of creative freedom and intellectual guidance. As a student I find myself immersed in a community more than a school and take pride in that. The city of Tampa's energy can be felt at all times of the day (and night).

    Bang for the buck

Great education. May be pricey, but well worth the costs.

There is greek life, clubs, student government, and many other sports organizations. City is life is super fun on Friday and Saturday nights.

    Food and Dining

Food is very good for a college environment.

    Dorm Life

Not a lot of privacy, but this is college life...

    Academic Rigor

Intense academics, but well worth your time.

    Campus Safety

There is security everywhere but I wouldn't say they are great. They are there when you really really need them. Not so much for everything else.

    Greek Life

People say that there is not many people in Greek life, but I have had many friends who pledged in the past year. Not everyone is in a frat or sorority so you wont feel out of place if you are not in one.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different types of clubs. It is very hard to find out about them besides freshman year orientation.

Great for these types of students

It is great for people who are very outgoing, or are trying to get out of their shell. There are many different types of personalities at University of Tampa, so it is easy to make friends. If you don't want to make friends and are just going to go to school, it would not be entirely worth it.

    Bang for the buck

I would say it is worth the money if you can afford it. It is not worth the money if you only go to the school to party.

    What to do for fun

Most people go out on campus on the weekends. There are many bars and clubs around Tampa. There are also campus events almost every weekday. There were only a few times their was nothing I actually wanted to do.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good compared to other schools and there are many options. You can get a little tired of it by the end of each semester, but that is probably the same at any school.

    Dorm Life

I was put in one of the worst dorms and it was the best experience. It was still suite style (with your own bathroom shared with another room). The dorms are very nice compared to other school. It really depends on who lives in your hall when it comes to loving dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

As for science majors the classes can be very challenging and require a lot of studying. The professors are very good, I have only had one not so good one. The school is also very good if you are a business, economics, or any major of that sort. For other majors I would not recommend going here because the school does not put as much focus on them. Majority of people are in the Sykes College of Business or a science major.

    Tips for prospective students

If you go to this school, don't get distracted by the social life, that is how people get kicked out. Work hard first, then play hard. Do well on your ACT and/or SAT, the school will give good scholarships just based on this.

    In three sentences

For a science major, this school can be academically challenging. If you want to work hard in school and not party harder than this is a great school for you. This school is great for outgoing people.

    EXTREMELY SAFE!!!!!

Great for these types of students

This university is good for those who really wish to be successful. If you are just going to college because it is the next step in your life, please don't take a seat away from a person who really wants to be there.

    Bang for the buck

It is a private university, so the cost is more. However the attention you receive from the staff is worth the money.

    What to do for fun

The campus activities will keep you busy, as a resident or as a commuter. But there are also so many things to do in Tampa.

    Food and Dining

Too many food choices and the prices are good.

    Dorm Life

I am a commuter but the campus is beautiful.

    Academic Rigor

The grading scale is high, 93 is an A. But the staff really helps you achieve your academic goals.

    Tips for prospective students

Small classes are the way to go, also I would not trade a private university for anything.

    In three sentences

I love studying at UT, the campus is beautiful. Small classes and one on one student teacher time helps with understanding difficult subjects. The staff is really understanding with a life school balance, I am an adult student who also works full time.

    Campus Safety

I always feel safe on campus. Even during the RNC, when a lot of shady individuals were lurking around near campus, I never felt like I was in any danger on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Huge list of activities, especially if you're an athlete. The list is significantly smaller if you are not.

Great for these types of students

People who enjoy playing volley ball shirtless until the wee hours of the night.

    Bang for the buck

It's inexpensive and I'm getting a good education.

    What to do for fun

Join a club. Unless you plan on going out all the time, find some like-minded individuals and just chill out in a place where you feel comfortable. Watching TV in a dorm, chatting in the Vaugn Center, you don't need to be going to some party to have fun.

    Food and Dining

Food is great. The pizza is a little bland, but otherwise I've enjoyed every meal.

    Dorm Life

The internet connection in every dorm is pathetic at best. While rooms are relatively spacious, the furniture seems poorly constructed, and in rooms that open up to the outside, you can't leave your door open for more than a few seconds without insects trying to rush in.

    Academic Rigor

Despite what may go on after class or on the weekends, during school hours these people work hard, always ready to learn.

    Tips for prospective students

Find clubs. Join the newspaper. If you're into going out every night, you'll be at home, but if you're more refined and want to take it easy you'll need to go far out of your way to find some friends. Keep your chin up, there are people out there. In class, be sure you stay on top of things; as with any University, the work can catch up with you fast and completely consume you if you don't keep it under control.

    In three sentences

A strong sense of community with an athletic mindset and a gorgeous campus, the University of Tampa is a great place for freshman to get a sense of belonging-- that is, if you're a chiseled-jaw adonis. With a penchant for partying, the students don't seem to offer much acceptance for the thick-glass-wearing, round faced, video game loving geeks. Still, people get down to business in class, and the atmosphere is rather scholarly during school hours.

UT's campus has the familiarity of a city for the wonderful fact that it's location is planted directly downtown. The college also has amazing teachers in which allow you to have student-teacher interaction, meaning you're not just another face in the crowd because they actually put the effort in knowing your name. Also, the food is amazing because it gives you a variety of choices to choose from, never letting you get bored for having the same thing over again.

They are the first response and will call the on campus security if the need arises, not to mention the fact that campus safety is well staffed and out on rounds ensuring the safety of the all the students.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life at UT is very diverse. It offers a selection of IFC, NPHC, PC and MGC councils with unique organizations. The theme of UT is Greek Unity and these organizations do well by living up to the standards set forth by UT and by socializing with other organizations. It is a great opportunity for any student to be more involved and meet other people with the same ideals.

    Clubs and Activities

UT has many clubs and campus events throughout the year that make it so easy to be involved! One can never go a day without seeing someone they know from an event or doing something new and interested by signing up at the Vaughn center, the social hub of UT.

The University of Tampa allows any kind of student with the opportunity to integrate into any kind of community that they so desire. The population is very diverse and offers many groups of people with which to become a part of and create lasting friendships and bonds.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The University of Tampa has its own Plant Park. A very relaxing park full of palm trees and a great view of downtown right across the Hillsborough river. Everything about UT is rather scenic and makes a great learning environment.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is a bit high but it is understandable for a private university of this caliber regarding education. They have many financial aid opportunities and are willing to work with students to make sure that college is a possibility for anyone that wants to succeed.

    What to do for fun

The University of Tampa is conveniently located in Downtown Tampa with many places to go to during the day like the beaches 15 minutes away, downtown scenery or one can always be involved in the many campus events. The night life offers a great variety of locations that anyone can have fun at.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

ResLife and the UT community are actively planning events and making sure that they are engaging the needs of their residents. Choosing to live on campus is a great choice for those that like a sense of community and safety.

    Academic Rigor

The professors know how to teach and are actively looking for ways to challenge the young minds of all the scholars that decide to attend. This provides real world application of the skill developed in class.

    Tips for prospective students

Look into what interests you best and see if the University of Tampa is the best match for you. They do offer a large selection of undergraduate programs that will make sure you get the best education out there.

    What to do for fun

If you are in to partying, then their are multiple clubs in Ybor that students enjoy attending on nights out. If you are in to watching films or shopping there are three shopping malls within 20 minutes of school and many movie theaters. Busch Gardens is also in Tampa, and Orlando is only about 1 and 1/2 hours away where Disney World, Sea World, and Universal are at.

    Food and Dining

The food is normal cafe food. There is not many vegetarian or healthy choices, however. When it comes to healthy it's pretty much a salad or vegetables cooked till they are extremely soft. After a while the food gets kind of repetitive.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is not the best in the world if you are not into partying and drinking. The RA's hold hall activities for the rooms they are in charge of and they tend to be enjoyable, but do not last very long. The rooms are a decent size, but it just depends on where you are assigned to live.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Tampa has an odd grading scale compared to other universities. In short it is roughly: A AB B BC C CD F. It can change depending on your professor. Most of the class you actually have to go to class and do your work to pass. A lot of papers are assigned, so be warned you will have to try to do well.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour of the school and ask questions. Most of the students here are from up north, so it feels like a northern university with Florida's sunny weather. If you decide to attend, make sure you carry an umbrella everywhere you go because it tends to randomly rain.

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa's campus is extremely beautiful and the professors really know their stuff. The university's president, however, tends to care more about aesthetics than academics. Their are so many organizations one could join, so it will be hard to be bored unless you refuse to actually go to student events.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Tampa is an expensive school, in order to get your moneys worth I cannot stress enough the importance of getting involved in all they have to offer and take your academics seriously, there will always be time to go out into the social life, save it for the weekends.

    What to do for fun

There is always something being held on campus that gets the students involved. Even off campus you will find that nearby places such as Ybor city and Channelside are great places to check out for the nightlife scene.

    Food and Dining

There are a variety of places for students to dine on campus, from the cafeteria to coffee shops, salad bars, burgers and fries and more!

    Dorm Life

There are a variety of Dorm's that you are able to live in, such as a single, double or triple. Dorm rooms are standard and if you are not happy with a roommate or living situation Tampa makes it easy for you to change your housing situation.

    Academic Rigor

Academics at this school are not impossible, they just require your time and effort. Don't put your coursework second to your social life, you will quickly find yourself behind in classes. As long as you go to class and complete the coursework at the set time, there is no reason you can't do well. The classes are the perfect size so that you can get individual attention from teachers. They are very accessible through email and are more then willing to help you in any class. If you feel that you need additional help, the ACE center is a great way to get one on one attention for a specific class.

    Tips for prospective students

Three of the most important tips I can give for prospective students are as followed. First of all, as with any college its easy to get carried away with partying and going out. Think of college like a full time job and dedicate Monday through Friday to school, and only school. Leave weekends for going out. It will save you money and more importantly your GPA. Secondly, college is all about time management. As with any University, the workload can get overwhelming. Develop time management skills, don't leave your coursework for last minute, it will only stress you out. And the last, most important tip I would suggest is to get involved on campus. There are many different organizations, clubs, volunteer work and sports you can get involved with. Not only is this a great way to meet new people but it helps you get more involved in the community and looks great on your resume. Take advantage of what the University of Tampa has to offer!

    In three sentences

As with any college experience, what you put into it, is what you will get out of it. The University of Tampa offers a wide variety of opportunities for their students. It's easy to find your niche here, whether you want to join a sports team, sorority, fraternity, volunteer services, the Minaret newspaper or even start your own club, the school and students make it easy and comfortable for you to do so. Within one year I was already learning more about myself then ever before, the experiences they offer should definitely be taken advantage of everyone is friendly and there to help you which makes it easy to get involved on and off of campus.

    Academic Rigor

The rigor of the academics depends strictly on the major of the student. Nursing and business majors have very strict and difficult curriculum, while easier majors like communications and criminology have far less of a workload.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important to visit the school and see the campus before making your decision.

    Food and Dining

Some meals are better than others. I currently eat on campus 15 times a week and always find something good to eat.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are clean. There is plenty of activities to take part in. I currently live in a triple and enjoy it.

    Academic Rigor

The course schedule is challenging but not burdensome.

    Tips for prospective students

As a student you need to know what you are looking for in a college. I was looking for a smaller university where I was a name to my professors not just a number. Also, being from Connecticut, I wanted to go to college in a vacation destination.

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa is a small campus located in downtown Tampa. The class sizes are small and there are plenty of social activities. The school atmosphere and weather is fantastic.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is awesome! Not to long ago, I was in class and also passed out due to dehydration and I went to go to my dorm and get my car keys so I can drive to Tampa General Hospital. Well I couldn't walk back to my car because I was dizzy, so I called the campus security office and within less than five minutes they were here to take me to the parking garage and even offered to take me to the hospital. Since UT is also five minutes from TGH they work well with the school.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm not in many organizations, but when I get the chance to I help out with the P.E.A.C.E volunteer center. They help the Tampa Bay area out within the community. It's very well organized and the staff and team leaders are very friendly and helpful.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The University is located in downtown Tampa, which you have a beautiful view of the tall buildings and the Hillsborough River. Also, it's not to far from the Bay area or Clearwater beach.

    What to do for fun

For fun I like to get involved with the organizations. I volunteer with the P.E.A.C.E center which gives out a lot of opportunities to help within the community. I'm not personally in one, but we have several good fraternities and sororities groups to choose from. They look great on resumes.

    Food and Dining

The food at the Cafe is not so bad, but we have other options to choose from. The Spartans club has chick-fil-a and a grill. One of the other buildings has all kinds of food choices to choose from such as, Diary Queen, pizza, hispanic food, or something from the bakery.

    Dorm Life

I love it here where I'm staying, which is the Mckay Hall. It's like we are a small family and the stype is like an apartment which I love. Also, behind the Mckay Hall is the hillsborough river, which is relaxing when you have to do your homework on a nice sunny day!

    Academic Rigor

The professors really get into what their teaching about and it makes the class a lot more fun. Also, they are willing to help you one on one if you have any questions.

    Tips for prospective students

The classes are challenging, but the professors love what they're doing so the classes are upbeat and exciting. Even though it's a university and you might feel overwhelmed about how big it is, everybody is like a family and I'm sure you will feel right at home once you get to know some people.

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa is a private university which allows a good student/professor ratio. The professors here are highly trained and their classes are a little challenging, but that makes you learn more and become a better student. I love it here at the University of Tampa and I plan on attending all four years to earn my RN degree.

There are loads of things to do for fun on campus or even in the area. There are always open might nights, movies on campus, family weekend, and just random Spartan sprite events to keep student moral up.

    Food and Dining

We have a wide range/variety of options. And all the food is amazing.

    Academic Rigor

Academically you have to go above and behind. If you drop below a 2.0 you will first be put on probation and then you will be on your way out the door. University life is not a game so please take it seriously.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of all the helpful programs on campus. Get to know your teachers so they can help you meet your goals. If you have time attend lectures about not only succeeding at school, but also in the real world. Lastly I would take advantage of any internshipâ??s the school might help you connect with.

    Dorm Life

Not bad, but the dorms are really loud at all hours of the night.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are very hit or miss. I've had a few really great teachers and a few completely awful ones. There are a lot of kids who are very uninterested in showing up as well.

Right across the Hillsborough River is Downtown Tampa. A simple walk or taxi ride can take you through Downtown, Channelside or Soho. Tampa is home to sports teams like the Bucs and Lightning, The Straz Center, crazy night life, and much more!

    Food and Dining

We have Dairy Queen. UT has numerous food options and I would say better cafeteria food than many other schools. We have restaurants that work using our meal plans and an all you can eat caf©.

    Greek Life

You don't have to join Greek life to have fun at UT like you do at some other colleges. But its defiantly been a great experience for me, there's community service opportunity's, job opportunity's, and a lot fun events and chances to get involved both in the community and on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many different clubs and activities to choose from, there is diffidently something for everyone.

There are many different options for dining, there is somewhere to eat for everyone.

    Campus Safety

Its pretty safe, but there are some people that aren't exactly the brightest crayon in the box, if you know what I mean. There is a club that is like a block away from UT and people have been known to bring strangers back to campus with them, and they get harassed, or assaulted. It's terrible, but use your common sense! Stay with your group if you go out and don't take strangers back to your room in the wee hours of the morning. Just play it safe.

    Greek Life

Its great! There are no houses allowed on campus, but greek life is alive and well. I went to UT knowing nothing about greek life, and now I'm a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta. There are new sororities and fraternities coming onto campus every year, and they do not take up all of you time, but definitely add to your college experience!

    Clubs and Activities

Seriously. Join Clubs. I am no Einstein, but my transcripts make me look awesome because I am involved in great student led and faculty led groups and clubs. There is literally anything from a leadership club, math club, to quiddich club. There's a center for volunteering and a center that will help you construct your resume and will do fake interviews. Whenever you go into an interview they always ask you some kind of real-life problem that you would solve, and that requires experience from extra-curriculars, not from reading a book.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for the Go-Getters. There are some students that complain and say that the college is stupid or a waste of money, but if you talk to them, you will realize that they aren't really involved or taking advantage of everything UT has to offer. Its really easy to have a conversation with a professor and as a freshman, my largest class size was 28, and I'm an Economics and Finance double major. Its great for people that love the sunshine (it will get hot) and that love to meet new people. The campus is around 6000, so its big enough that you meet new people all the time, but small enough that you run into your friends or people within your major.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an annual event that happens in late January, right after you come back from winter break called Gasparilla, AKA Gatsby. Everybody wakes up at 9 am, puts on a pirate costume, gets drunk, and walks the streets of Tampa. This event is actually a lot of fun and sponsored by the city, there's a huge pirate parade and the pirates give away beads in the parade. It is complete madness and a nightmare if you decide to drive that day, but its ALWAYS better on foot if you're going to be drinking!! But if you're more of a wallflower, its pretty easy to opt out, there's no pressure to party, but a lot of people do. Tampa is actually on a river that is within a park so you can walk up to the river, lay out a towel and sunbathe, study, or take in the view. Its a really beautiful place to just sit and relax. Another cool thing was that we had the Republican National Debate come to UT this last Fall of 2012! We had the Today Show come and visit the campus as well as Senator John McCain stopped by to speak to our business students.

    Bang for the buck

This college is pretty expensive and there are some issues between the Financial Aid Office and Bursars Office, make sure you have your ducks in a row! The people in the Bursars office are really nice though, they have bent over backwards to help me solve any financial aid issues I had in the past. One thing I have to say is that there is FREE peer tutoring by seniors, is is sooooo useful, I am horrible at math and just earned an A in calculus!

    What to do for fun

One word. TAMPA. All the great musicians and artists come on tour, there are great places to eat, beaches within 30 minutes, Disneyworld is an hour away, Universal Studios is about 2 hours away, in addition to Busch Gardens, a huge amount of 18+ clubs, the historic district of Tampa, and whatever else you can find in Tampa (There's everything). I recently went to a place where you can trampoline and play dodgeball at the same time, it was great. If you don't feel like leaving campus, you can just lay out by the pool in the perfect sunny Tampa weather. Our motto is We Live Where You Spring Break :)

    Food and Dining

The food is alright, but it can get repetitive just like at any other college. There are 4 main areas to eat, the cafeteria, the Spartan Club, and the Naomi Center, and there's an Einstein's Bagel included in your meal program, as well as Dairy Queen and Chick-Fil-A. As for the vegetarians I have talked to, they say that there are pretty good options for them, there are also two great salad places, and a little Starbucks. There are also a bunch of local places that you can walk to from campus that have awesome food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty nice. All of the dorms on campus are pretty good, the freshman are normally in doubles or triples and there aren't any communal bathrooms. The upperclassmen dorms include furnished living rooms and full kitchens as well as your own room, with four in one space. Its like a four bedroom apartment. Really nice, I am a freshman and an upperclassman pulled me into the upperclassmen dorms and I loved it. My experience with the freshman dorms wasn't too bad either; I was assigned to a triple, and it was a huge room!

    Academic Rigor

There are some classes that are reeeally easy and some classes that will have you studying like crazy, depending on your major and teacher. The hardest majors are accounting, biology, and their college of business is pretty reputable and offers some good classes.

    Tips for prospective students

For students who are looking into Tampa, people should know that its exactly what you make it. At UT you are going to find students who party all the time, and students who are always at the library studying. Tampa can give you a great amount of connections since its in such a large city, but it can be pretty distracting during finals week. The teachers are always available during office hours, and the weather is great. UT also requires all of its students to participate in a baccalaureate program where students have to take some classes unrelated to their major so that they can be well-rounded.

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa is a great college that can accommodate those who want to work hard and play hard. There are great academic opportunities, the college is small enough that there is a good chance of receiving an independent study with a professor and has a huge amount of extra-curricular clubs for anything and everything. Since it is in Tampa there are many places to relax and have fun too!

Ybor city is very close and because UT is an urban campus, downtown Tampa is just a walk away. On the other side of the campus, there is International Mall, Westshore Mall, movie theaters, and a myriad of bars to choose from. Ybor city is a great place to go if one is in the mood to explore Tampa nightlife.

    Food and Dining

SO good!! There are so many different and healthy options to choose from.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at UT are superb! Most of the dorms are suite style and they are maintained in excellent condition. Facilities are ready to come and fix any problems in a very timely manner.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the major that you select at this university, the rigor of the program varies. More difficult majors, including any type of science major, must be prepared to out the work in if they wish to be successful in the program.

You want to get a good grade, just do your homework and show up for class, its literally a few hours of your day, and roughly 15 hours of your entire week. You can manage it. Be wary of taking advice from guidance counselors, they don't always know the best advice. Also be smart about what you do.

This school is perfect for the freshman student curious about the college experience and still willing to excel in his or her educational career. Be wary of distractions, as they will occur. Teachers are willing to communicate with you and help your needs but you must make the effort to go to them.

    Campus Safety

Our campus security patrols 24/7. UT is great at sending security reports via the campus wide email system. If something happens off campus to a student or on campus, the entire community is alerted.

    Greek Life

Greek life is big on campus but not in the greek houses and popularity way. If you want to go Greek then awesome and if not equally awesome.

    Clubs and Activities

If there is not a club that captures your interest then create it! Love the environment then join TriBeta/EPC. A fan of games? Join the game club.

Great for these types of students

    What to do for fun

The beach is a 20-30 minute drive away. Beautiful sandy beaches with mostly clear waters. The park across campus is always busy with music festivals or celebrations. This park also has a fun light action game. You may be in college but it is still acceptable to play this at the kid park! In the colder months there is an ice rink. There are two great malls near by. So many great places to eat right downtown. Get out and Explore!

    Food and Dining

The cafe is not bad though not entirely good. Unless you have the unlimited plan, you can use any amount of your allotted meals for meal exchanges at the various other dining options of UT. Meal options range form cuban and italian to american and sushi. Your meal plan also comes with Spartan Dollars which can be used at any dining option on campus.

    Dorm Life

I was so lucky to be paired with great roommates and suite mates. Six girls shared one bathroom and we never had an issue! After your first year you get to choose the dorm will live for the next year. Selection is on a credit basis.

    Academic Rigor

This is a hard thing to rate. Each major has a different rigor and certain courses can prove more challenging than others. As a Marine Bio major, the courses are difficult. They require dedicated hours of study, but they are open your world to your future. You learn the knowledge that you will one day apply.

    Tips for prospective students

UT can be a breeze by school for the undetermined student. For the determined student, UT can be a life changing experience academically. Apply yourself to travel programs, participate in campus activities, and join clubs. UT is so much more than a place of study. Take advantage.

    In three sentences

UT offers an incredible array of opportunities to hard working and determined students. The location is ideal, sunny and invigorating. My first year at UT was filled with too many life changing experiences to count ranging from travels to Boston for a Model UN and Costa Rica for a field course to growth as a leader and a student.

    Campus Safety

There are emergency call boxes and cameras as well as security personelle all over the campus. Most of the issues with safety are the result of students being dumb (like a girl walking around alone at 3 AM) or oblivious (like not looking before crossing the street).

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs on-campus clubs for all types of interests, and the Tampa Bay area is practically exploding with activites and adventures! Not to mention, we have an undefeated football team!! (Haha! The joke is: we don't have a football team)

Great for these types of students

To anyone out there who doesn't fit the mold or dances to the beat of their own drum, I reccomend you give UT some serious thought.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Sykes Chapel is, in my experience, one of the most architecturally beautiful and interesting buildings and it has a phenomenal pipe organ that will rock your face off!

    Bang for the buck

A lot of people say that UT is too expensive, but anyone reading this is already on the right track of looking for scholarships and financial aid. To them, I say: If you want something badly enough, you will try anything and everything to try and get it, right?!

    What to do for fun

The school is in the heart of Tampa, in the Sunshine State we call Florida. We have beaches, Busch Gardens, and a Yeungling brewery... So, yeah, there is plenty of fun to be had here!

    Food and Dining

UT has fresh sushi, made daily, and a Chick-fil-A... enough said! But, seriously, I find all the food to be delicious and there are a lot of healthy choices. We even have a mini-grocery store on campus! If that's not enough, it takes 5 minutes to walk across the bridge into downtown Tampa where there are sooo many groovy little cafes and restaurants! I reccomend Bamboozles and Taco Bus.

    Dorm Life

A lot of freshman stay at the hotel near campus due to upperclassmen getting housing preference, but UT just finished another on-campus dorm and this should open up a lot more room to incoming freshman. The Boathouse is by far the coolest on-campus house!

    Academic Rigor

I think my classes at UT are intellectually challenging and well worth the money! Almost ALL of the educators have the HIGHEST degree possible in their field and are extremely personable and helpful. Also, I have found that most of the professors are able to elucidate the course material with anecdotes from their own personal experience in the field.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is very unique and I highly reccomend a visit to the campus to get a real feel for the atmosphere of the school and nearby downtown Tampa.

Fresh food is served almost daily. The main entree in the cafeteria is sometimes recycled into the next day's soup. Otherwise the food is good, and it's easy to eat healthy.

    Dorm Life

I never lived on campus since I have 3 dogs, but from the people I do know that live on campus, they all love it and there is so much to do on campus as well.

    Academic Rigor

    What to do for fun

The University of Tampa is located in the heart of Downtown Tampa. It is a walk away from restaurants and bars. Channelside is a common spot to go out clubbing or bar hopping on the weekend. There is also the historical Ybor City which shows off its spicy Cuban roots during the daytime and lights up with Tampa's people during the night. If all else fails it is a 15 minute drive to the nearest beach. And within 45 minutes you can get to some of the greatest beaches in the country.

    Food and Dining

There are so many food options on the University of Tampa campus. For a private school it is rare that you have the options of a Chick-Fil-A, Dairy Queen/ Orange Julius, and a Einstein's Bagel on campus. In addition to these places they offer Cuban food, Pasta, Southern Barbecue, and a salad bar. There is also the main dining hall and the Rathskeller, a deli and coffee shop under Plant Hall. I guarantee your stomach will not be disappointed with the campus food.

    Dorm Life

I give the dorm life a 4 out of 5. The dorms on campus are extremely nice. Freshman dorms are not the typical dreadful rooms no one wants to live in. There are a variety of living spaces on campus. They vary from a waterfront dorm room with only 16 roommates living in the entire hall. To a suite style room with two doubles sharing a bathroom. And if you are an upperclassmen looking for a little more privacy Urso offers single studio apartments. All in all the dorm life is incredible! The only downfall is the luxurious dorm life has a pretty high bill as well.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Tampa is the best academic school if you are going into Marine Biology, Business, or Sports Management and Exercise Science. The class sizes are very small which allows for extra attention. It is obvious that The University of Tampa is not a Ivy League School, but it is the next best thing. If you are looking for professors that are seasoned in the field they are instructing in go to The University of Tampa.

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa is a small private school filled with international students and a large amount of north easterners. It is located on a beautiful campus in the middle of downtown Tampa. The University of Tampa is a great environment for a B student who wants to get a great education.

    Greek Life

    Somewhat a successful cult following.

    Clubs and Activities

Sure, if you're into that sort of thing.

Great for these types of students

    Slackers, partiers, drinkers, socialites.

    Bang for the buck

Ridiculously overpriced and the wifi sucks. If you're looking to get in, find a man, and get out, then this is the place to be.

    What to do for fun

Ybor and SoHo are your nearest spots for entertainment. Cass Bar is where the Freshman go. The Retreat has $10 open bar Thursday nights starting at 9 pm. The Outpost has yet to have a full-liquor bar so it's always dead. Pachyderm is packed Saturday nights. $1 Beers at McDinton's Thursday Nights. Czar and Ampitheatre are the less ratchet clubs in Ybor.

    Food and Dining

Speaking of food....Though the options have certainly gotten better since I've been here, there's still plenty of room for improvement. The Grocer could certainly use an expansion and could add a whole slew of products and probably resemble more of a grocery store than it does now. The best place to eat is Panache, but if you don't have any Dining Dollars, get ready to fork over $15 for a buffet style meal. The cafeteria closes at the ridiculously early hour of 8 pm, though the grill is open the latest until 1 am.

    Dorm Life

Avoid McKay and The Boathouse. West Kennedy Hall is the newest building and by far the prettiest, McKay has communal showers (ew), and the Boathouse is essentially one giants room and 10 unlucky people who get woken up at 5 in the morning by the rowing team (Wait, we have a rowing team??). Vaughn and Morsani (Formally known as Stadium) are the only dorms with food quarters, so choose wisely.

    Academic Rigor

If you did well in high school without even trying, you'll do fine here. This is, of course, dependent on your major. The most rigorous courses are those in the science fields. 90% of all professors here have doctorates and only a handful of classes are ever taught by Teaching Assistants.

    Tips for prospective students

If you like the beach, good-looking people, and beautiful weather year-round, then this is the place for you. No matter what your major, you're bound to find someone who shares your interests. The classes are small enough to where you can actually get to know your professor and don't have to be reduced to simply a number.

    In three sentences

The school is in the prime location just a walk away from downtown Tampa. It provides a beautiful learning environment, both inside and outside the classroom. I have never felt unsafe or uncomfortable on campus. The school is located in a semi-unsafe part of town, but as soon as you're on campus there is definitely a secure feeling.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a very big part of our campus. Most students are involved in greek life and they are all very active on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

We have every kind of club you could want to be a part of from Student Government and volunteer organizations to and improv comedy club.

Great for these types of students

UT is great for people who like Florida weather, majoring in Business/Entrepreneurship, or who like to party a lot.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have an establishment on campus called The Rathskeller, which used to be a bar 20 or so years ago, but is now a deli/Starbucks which is located in a cellar-type room underneath Plant Hall. Plant Hall is another cool spot. It is the oldest building on campus and also one of the oldest in Tampa. It was build about 100 years ago and was originally a hotel for very wealthy people. Now it holds offices and classrooms. It's really old, really beautiful, and also supposedly really haunted.

    Bang for the buck

You really do get what you pay for. Tuition is high, but the school is beautiful, the teachers are great, and the student life is fun.

    What to do for fun

There is always a lot going on. If you get involved in clubs, or especially greek life you will always be busy going to events and things. Outside of campus activities there is also a lot to do. There are a lot of bars and clubs nearby (Ybor is only 3 miles away), there is also Bush Gardens, beaches, malls, lots of places to eat, and Disney is only about an hour away.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is generally pretty good quality and tastes good. There are lots of different options. It's not very healthy and the cafeteria food isn't always great, but in general it's good.

    Dorm Life

All of the dorm buildings are really nice. They are all fairly spacious and clean. There are also lots of options, you can live alone, in a single with other suite mates, in a double, or triple.

    Academic Rigor

It may just be my major (Performing Arts), but I have taken general education classes and they haven't been all that challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships, tuition is quite expensive. It helps to know what you want to major in ahead of time so that you stay on track to finish in four years. Once you get here, get involved. You will make friends very easily and it will keep you busy. Be wary of cranky security guards.

    In three sentences

UT is great for someone who wants the traditional college experience (minus a football team) but in a smaller setting than a large state school. The student life, location, and weather are great, however the academics are not as rigorous as other schools. We also could use some more school spirit and tradition.

Safety is absolutely wonderful. We all get alerts to our cellphones if anything happens on or off campus and if you need to get somewhere and for whatever reason, you can't walk or its too late, they pick you up.

    Clubs and Activities

Student Productions is definitely one of the best clubs you can join if you really want to get involved. They have separate committees for music, film, recreation, special events and marketing. You can join as many committees as you'd like as long as the schedules don't clash. They are basically in charge of putting together different events on campus from concerts to movies nights to homecoming week,

    What to do for fun

There is a museum on campus we get to go in for a free and a couple others down the block. The school also has a park on campus which is great when you want to de-stress. Ybor City is also a few minutes away and there is tons of entertainment there. Being in the heart of Tampa means there a lot shopping malls within ten or 15 minutes.

    Food and Dining

There could be more diversity but the places already set have amazing food and being in walking distance of downtown you can always grab something different.

    Dorm Life

The housing is great. I prefer staying at the hotel because the rooms and beds are bigger even though we have to take a shuttle to campus or walk but if you don't mind downsizing stay on campus would be great too. Each option has its pros and cons.

    Academic Rigor

All of the classes I've taken have definitely been a challenge although the ones I found more interesting were a bit easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply to as many scholarships as you can definitely. Check out the campus and see if it's for you, it isn't huge but it is beautiful.

    In three sentences

The University of Tampa has an extremely diverse student body. Class sizes are relatively small giving us an opportunity to develop relationships with our professors that help us academically, professionally, and in life. There are an immense number of resources available to us from counseling to career service.

We do have Greek life, it is good for networking and building relationships.

    Clubs and Activities

There are countless clubs and activities on campus, you can make your life as busy as you want it to be by joining activities or clubs. It is also very easy to make your own club.

Great for these types of students

UT is great for students who are very independent and students who are wanting to do a one on one study with a teacher. It is also really good for any student who is wanting a business major or a marine biology or science related major.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are no unusual traditions on campus, but there is a lot to the culture of UT, it is a very open atmosphere. There is a very calming sense to the campus itself and the people there are very open for conversation.

    Bang for the buck

UT is not the perfect college for everyone, but when it does match a student it is perfect. There are teachers who really care and will be willing to take a student on to co-publish something. Teachers really take their students up to the next level, but you have to find that special teacher in your field of interest who is willing to take you on.

    What to do for fun

Go to the pool, take some time out and take a trip to the beach only a 30 minute drive, take the bus to the mall, join a club, walk around downtown Tampa.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of options to eat food from, you can have a lot of salads and salad options, and there is main course food from the cafe. There is also a restaurant like eating atmosphere in the grill and morsanis.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very large and unusually nice. I am currently in a tripple connected to a double dorm room with one bathroom in-between and it is very nice. The atmosphere is very nice.

    Academic Rigor

The Academics are surprisingly very vigorous. If you are planning in going into biology, chemistry, marine biology, or biochemistry the academics will be very hard.

    Tips for prospective students

A lot of students are from out of state, this college is a huge melting pot. I would be ready for a rigorous class experience at UT and prepare for warm and cooler weather when packing.

    In three sentences

The University is a beautiful place, it has a strong science program academically and it has a well kept. The University is always clean, the library always offers good help. Undergraduate students always take classes from professors not students.
