Great for these types of students

Great for students with goals. The academics are great so be ready to work hard.

    Tips for prospective students

Consider this school and compare it to other schools on size, expenses and personality.

    Bang for the buck

After not being able to afford the University of Tennessee at Knoxville because of the cost of tuition, I came to UTC. I could not have made a better choice. Everything is less expensive. Not only is it less expensive but you get more for your money. A smaller campus means more individual attention from professors if you need it. The 'dorms' aren't the typical dorms. All of them feature two bedrooms, a bathroom (with 2 sinks) a full kitchen, living room and storage space. They come furnished with all kitchen appliances (stove top, microwave, refrigerator, sink and toaster oven), 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 dressers and 2 closets in each room, a kitchen table with 4 chairs, a couch and a chair for the living room. Each room has Internet and cable. The brand new gym is free anytime you want to go-it has all machines, basketball courts, rock climbing wall, etc. The campus if full of life everywhere you go and the little expense it costs is worth the price.

    Am enjoying being here

Chattanooga is a very beautiful place and the campus is small enough to pass at least someone you know everyday. Classes are medium in size and you can always get individual help from professors or tutors. The food is good ranging from Quiznos and Chik-fil-A to wraps, sushi and salads. The brand new gym is wonderful and the Aquatic center, once completed Fall 2010, will be decked out with a swimming pool, lazy river and water slide. There are plenty of clubs, intramurals, etc. to join and the musical performances are great. Plenty of things to do on and off campus with downtown within walking distance.

    Am learning a lot

I've learned so much, not just in classes but being on my own and on campus. Responsibility is huge when in college. You have to study twice the amount of time you're in class. Aside from academics, I've learned how to cope without my circle of friends from high school. You quickly learn to make new friends and manage your time. Everything is coming together and I know when the academics get harder, I know I've got solid social skills behind me.

Great for these types of students

Student who learn better in smaller class sizes, non-traditional students and those who prefer to live at home and commute. Other than general education classes, most have what I call a 'high school' class size, around twenty-ish. Calling all business majors, the business school here is ranked one of the best in the country. It is great for students who do not want to be overwhelmed by a 30,000 student school, but would get bored at a small school with a thousand students. I love it! :)

    Tips for prospective students

Please come visit! Maybe I'll see you around! :) If a student does apply, please apply for housing at the same time, don't wait! Even if you are not sure you are going to attend it is worth the small deposit fee, to guarantee a housing spot. Make sure the application is complete and on time! Be yourself! Have fun with the college admission process.

    Bang for the buck

The price is definitely worth the education you receive. This campus is the up-and-coming UT campus, and many renovations are being done to bring this school to its full potential. New buildings and state of the art facilities are being added including a renovated Grote Hall and a new recreation center. The professors at UTC really care about their students so you are guaranteed a great education for an in-state price.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE being here. The dorms are some of the best in the state. Having apartment style rooms is great because students can cook, and not have to feel crammed in a tiny room to eat, sleep, and study in. The campus is not too big, but not too small. Having 10,000 is a great size. The campus is fairly compact so one can get anywhere in only a few minutes, but don't push it (I've tried, not recommended ;) There are tons of ways to get involved, intramurals, clubs to fit any personality and greek life are all popular choices. Greek life is much more relaxed than other schools, so give it a try!

    Am learning a lot

I am a freshman at UTC this year and have learned so much already. Classes can be difficult or easy, it all depends on what the student would like to take. Taking challenging classes is great here, I can push myself to learn even more by doing this. There are plenty of opportunities to explore a wide variety of classes for those who are undecided through general education requirements.

Great for these types of students

If you like to meet new people but don't want be overcrowded, this is a good place for you. The campus is just the right size and it is close to all the downtown Chattanooga attractions so if you want to go to the aquarium, you just walk down the hill.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and don't party alot. Sororities and Fraternities can wait. Your education comes first.

    Bang for the buck

The cost is very expensive, but I strive to do good in my classes so that I can get scholarships and financial aid to help me further my career. I want to join a fraternity, but I realize that my grades come first, so I study hard. I guess when it really comes down to it, this school is worth the cost.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus here and I have met so many new people. I usually play basketball in my free time with the new friends I have met. It's always something to do here and I am glad I chose this college to further my education.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot of things here, but mostly I have learned new study methods. I have a good relationship with my teachers and I am able to ask for help when I need it. The classes aren't too big so the teachers have more time to help you when you need it. I want to major in communications and being able to relate to my teachers and participate in class is a big part of communicating.

Great for these types of students

If you want a smaller campus, big enough to where everyone doesn't know your personal life but small enough not to get lost all the time and you can wake up five minutes before class and get there on time.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! I did not want to join a sorority when I came to school but I decided to rush anyways. After I went through recruitment I was in love and having a blast. It made college a lot easier and a LOT more fun. If a fraternity or sorority is not your thing, find another involvement to get into. There is so much to offer for a smaller school.

    Bang for the buck

Although college can get expensive, I feel that I have chosen a great place to resume my education. With it being a smaller school, I feel like not only is it less money than a major university, but you can get more one-on-one time with your professors which makes your money worth while.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE IT HERE!! I will be a Sophomore this year and could not have found a better school for myself. I have made a lot of new friends which is very easy considering the small campus.

    Am learning a lot

I have a great choice of classes to choose from. Because the classes are relatively small, I get to talk to my teachers more and can ask for more help if needed, which might not happen in a larger school. I'm not bored in class but not overly stressed with my load.

Great for these types of students

Great for education bound, bussiness bound, and art bound students looking for a great college to earn their degrees.

    Tips for prospective students

Look for scholarships as soon as possible and do not wait until the last minute.

    Bang for the buck

Any college that you decide on going to is going to be a chunk of money from your pocket, but the good thing about UTC is that tuition is cheap if you live in the state of Tennessee. They have a lot of different dorms you can choose from to live in. The newest and nicest dorms just so happen to be the most expensive. The South Campus dorms are quite pricey, but they are worth every penny for the safety you feel and the friends you make. The school provides so much for such a small price.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying being at UTC because of the freedom of living in a dorm. I have made many friends through my classes and my building that I live in. The campus is a smaller size than usual campuses you may see somewhere else. I believe that the smaller campus helps you be more social. You see people that you know all the time, but it also gives you a chance to see and meet new people. Sororities and Fraternities are a great way to make new friends, but there are also many different church groups such as the House and the CRU that you can get involved in and meet new people. The city of Chattanooga is beautiful and the campus is easy to navigate around. I am proud to call myself a MOC because UTC really is a terrific school.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot here because of the small class sizes and the ability to connect with the professors. UTC has so many accomidations to fit what ever major you happen to be studying. The Engineering, Math, and Computer Science building, also known as the EMCS building, is one of the best buildings on campus. There are four floors and each floor is perfectly suited for the specified majors. If you are an undecided major, you have the opportunity to scope out everything that you might be interested in and choose your major from there. You are never rushed into decisions that you may or may not be ready for.

Great for these types of students

    Any student.

    Tips for prospective students

The hills here are killers, but the shuttle is free and runs all over campus.

    Bang for the buck

It is not very expensive to attend UTC. Close to all activities are free because it is included in your tuition. There is a free state of the art workout facility and all athletic events are free as well.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus and the on-campus living. The dorms are apartment style and I love it.

    Am learning a lot

I love the teaching methods here at UTC. The instructors are willing to communicate with each student one-on-one. Great interaction.

Great for these types of students

Pretty much anyone. Living and commuting in the heart of the city can be too urban-ish for some, but its only for a couple years, right? Chattanooga is a very artsy place, but it is also great for all things outdoors and active.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early - being an early bird helps a lot when it comes to selecting a room on campus. Also, go to an early orientation - you select your first classes at orientation and they fill up fast during the summer.

    Bang for the buck

With only the school and lottery scholarships, I go to college, live, and eat for only around $1,600 a semester. Most of my friends and roommates actually get refund checks, so the school is paying them, not the other way around.

    Am enjoying being here

UTC has a great feeling campus... its not too large and every where you go you run into people you know. The on-campus living is the best anywhere, and having an actual apartment as opposed to a tiny dorm helps you feel more like an adult. All the staff are nice, and there are so many activities on campus and around Chattanooga to keep anyone from being bored.

    Am learning a lot

The staff here is very dedicated and tries very hard to serve the students as best they can. If you want to learn, the professors at UTC are more than happy to help any way they can.

    Tips for prospective students

GO TO CLASS! Do not let the lack of an attendance policy make you lazy! You will not pass.

    Am enjoying being here

There is so much to do in Chattanooga! From restaurants to movie theaters to mini golf, downtown has it all! That is really great for the people who cannot stay in their dorm the entire semester!

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot at UTC. Most of the professors are really good about helping out out if you need the extra help. They want to make sure that you understand the material they are presenting you.

Great for these types of students

People who are prepared to fight every step of the way people who are willing to go the extra mile and manage not only their school work, and school schedule - but will also work as their own HR rep and stay on top of everything.

    Tips for prospective students

You don't want to transfer in here or your first semester will be a waste - transfer students register after everyone else and there is almost nothing open at that time. Register early if you can, and check, double check, triple check all of your accounts at least 3 times a week. Your financial aid account, your class schedules, all of that. At any time it could all get erased and you will have to start working to get it all back. Make friends with the administrative assistant of your department head. Since the school's administration won't help you - these wonderful ladies can be miracle workers when it comes to reclaiming lost schedules. I have been to 5 different colleges - you CAN have a good experience here but just know that you have to be willing to manage everything yourself. It's great practice for that management job you will have some day.

    Bang for the buck

The costs are increasing dramatically but the class numbers are not - meaning you may only want a 4 year degree but you may have to spend 6 years here to get into the classes you need in order to graduate. Many classes are available at half the cost at Chattanooga State, and I know a large number of students who go to both just to save money. The parking cost is way to high to park in a dirt lot and have to ride a bus the rest of the way to campus. The Dorms are extremely expensive when you factor in that you are also required to purchase an overprice meal plan to go with it. UTC will do what they can to get every last penny from the students and offer almost no help in financial aid.

    Am enjoying being here

Though the professors are A quality - the administration from financial aid to records earn an F. Every semester at least 3 people I know have their classes erased. They had me down as two students and my student ID still doesn't work (it's been a year). Every semester I have had to fill out multiple forms with financial aid because of computer glitches or individual's errors on my account throwing out my financial aid. It has always worked out in the end but I have spent countless hours on the phone or in the office of various admins who generally don't know what's going on or how to help. I have asked around campus and this seems to be a systemic issue with this school.

    Am learning a lot

Most departments are staffed with excellent professors who are very knowledgeable about their field and are very exited to educate. There are two departments that are notoriously bad here - Physics is known for terrible teaching and frustrated students, and about half of the Chemistry department. The Biology department is fantastic and I couldn't ask for better professors. Most of the professors on campus are more than happy to spend extra time with the students to make sure that they are learning what they need to learn.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive no matter which way you slice it. Fortunately, UTC helps students and parents make things realistically affordable.

    What to do for fun

The school has a facility called the ARC. You may rock climb, swim, learn to dance and defend yourself. Honestly I can't name everything they offer.

    Food and Dining

No one can go hungry at UTC. They have something for everyone.

    Dorm Life

AMAZING! Dorm rooms look like apartments. I would not mind living there all four years. Definitely worth the money.

    Academic Rigor

Same academic rigor as UTK but much more affordable. definitely pushes students to do what they can do and more.

    Tips for prospective students

Act early, do your homework. Get to know the college well. If you really want to get to know the school, make an appointment to get a tour. You will not be disappointed.

    In three sentences

It is a clean, safe campus with friendly staff and friendly students.

    Campus Safety

Police are awesome! Very friendly and their response time is superb. They are so helpful and easy to reach.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life on campus in very popular and involved in the community service in Chattanooga.

    Clubs and Activities

UTC offers a wide range of intramural sports and different on campus clubs that range from academia to community service. There is something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

Students that are interested in outdoors, great for students that want to be teachers or engineers, an excellent fine arts center, and a top of the line business school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a chapel on campus that is supposedly haunted. Makes for fun late night walks on campus.

    Bang for the buck

UTC offers so much for such an affordable price. The Financial Aid office is really helpful and provides you with a lot of different scholarships to apply for.

    What to do for fun

The town has a ton of fun stuff, being that we are surrounded by mountains, a fun downtown, and the Tennessee River. But the Aquatics and Recreation Center on campus has a full gym, track, basketball courts, FREE outdoor equipment rentals, a rock climbing wall, 2 pools, a lazy river around the pools, and a giant water slide. UTC pretty much takes care of it all.

    Food and Dining

The on campus dining is great. There are a few coffee shops on campus (a Starbucks is being built in the new library currently under construction. There is a food court in the University Center that offers a wide range of foods like burgers, pizza, wraps, sandwiches, soul food, salads, Chinese food, and even milkshakes. There is also another dining service in which you pay when you walk in and there is a huge variety of different foods and it is all you can eat! The wide variety also allows you to make healthy choices, which is really important.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life here rocks! I spent the first 2 years living on campus. The dorms at UTC are apartment style. There are many different buildings, but in most of them you get your own bedroom, you share a bathroom with one other person, there is a living room and kitchen..with a washer and dryer!! It doesn't get much better than that. Plus..it is literally a 7 minute walk to class AT MOST! It is so convenient.

    Academic Rigor

UTC is a challenging school, like any other University, but the professors here are incredible. They are always willing to help you outside of class and they know you by name, even in large classes. They genuinely want to see you succeed. The bottom line is that college can be tough anywhere, but finding one that pushes you to the next level, while supporting you along the way makes it worthwhile; UTC does this for its students.

    Tips for prospective students

I would be sure to make Chattanooga your home when you come here. Too many people see college as just 4 years, but it is where you will live for four years. Students need to get involved in school and in the community and it makes college so much better. UTC has so many different opportunities to get involved in.

    In three sentences

UTC is an excellent school because of the affordability, convenience, and educational programs. The school is on the rise in the State of Tennessee and I have never met a student that dislikes it. The simplicity of life, mixed with the downtown location makes it the perfect place to go to college!

I absolutely LOVE this school. It's been a wonderful first year experience. The campus is just the right size, and you can walk anywhere on campus within 10 minutes. It's a beautiful city, and it's a beautiful campus. The dorms are all apartment style, so you get the best of living on campus. I truly love this school, and I would recommend it to anyone.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are great. The only department I have a hard time with is the Math department. Otherwise, all the teachers I have are really helpful.

Great for these types of students

In-State, those that feel they have problems on the payment, those who want to stay close to home.

    Tips for prospective students

Study. Ask professors or other students if you need help on something you are struggling on.

    Bang for the buck

It is a relatively cheap university to get accepted into. Money problems are not much of an issue if you have scholarship money. It is a bit more expensive for out-of-state students.

    Will enjoy being here

It is a large campus and many people you know from high school that are great friends might end up here. You can find yourself doing many things at UTC and you will be satisfied.

    Will learn a lot

Learning is the number one thing a college will offer. I believe that many professors are willing to help you learn and are willing to help you if needed. Classes are not too difficult, but that could change if not a lot of studying is done.

Great for these types of students

UTC is a good campus for just about any type of student. I've met everyone from Star Wars fiends to lacrosse players to underwater photographers. It is easy to be yourself on campus because everyone is so different.

    Tips for prospective students

A few things to remember about UTC: You can print up to 5 pages at a time for free in the UTC Writing Center in Holt Hall, always keep spare change in your car in case you can't find a parking spot and need to park at a meter, parking in most lots is free after 5, online classes are the BEST, and always get to know your advisor really well...you'll need them more than you know. Oh, and make sure you figure out what classes you want LONG before registration time, because the day registration opens is CRAZY hectic.

    Bang for the buck

UTC offers quite a bit of financial aid, which is very helpful. Any classes over 12 credit hours per semester are free, so anyone can cut down their college costs if they are willing to work a little harder. Also, there are many jobs on campus that help pay for tuition.

    Am enjoying being here

UTC is a great campus! It is small enough to not be overwhelming and large enough that there is always something to do. From outdoor movies to the ARC fitness center to the many computer labs on campus, there is always something to do for everyone!

    Am learning a lot

I love UTC's learning environment. Most of the classes I have had are small in size, so each student can get one-on-one help from the professors when they need it.

Great for these types of students

It's great for all types of students. One thing I can say is this campus is very diverse and everyone seems to get along really well.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your enrollment, housing, and parking decals early. This campus is becoming more and more popular and housing is limited on campus. So, unless you actually want to commute to school each day and fight to find parking I suggest you get all of that done early. Also, get involved in a few of the organizations on campus. There is something for everyone!

    Bang for the buck

This school was worth the money in the beginning, but with the tuition and enrollment hike it has gotten outrageous. There are several charges that I am always questioning. However, I am getting a great education. The extra fees are the only thing that bother me.

    Am enjoying being here

Chattanooga is a very interesting place, especially if you get off of campus. There is usually something fun and interesting to do on campus, but there is also a great deal of things going on in the community. The weather is schizophrenic sometimes though. There are several on-campus clubs and organizations that you can easily get associated with.

    Am learning a lot

I am a Criminal Justice major so my department is small. You are more than likely going to have a teacher more than once. The classrooms are usually smaller settings so you can get assistance with your work pretty easily. I am proud to say i have stayed on the dean's list!! As long as you are willing to do the work the professors will help you!

Great for these types of students

Chattanooga is really good for a diverse amount of people, but you will find a lot of outdoorsy-type people here simply because of the amazing hiking and camping and kayaking (the list goes on and on) that Chattanooga offers. There are also a lot of really fit people here because of the awesome Exercise Science major and the newly completed (fantastic) Aquatic Recreation Center. Sorority and Fraternity people can definitely find one they like here, but there are also plenty of people who aren't into that as well. There is a big Christian population here with a club for practically every denomination, but there are also non-religious people. There are a lot of drinkers and party-ers, but I don't do either of those things and I have a lot of friends who don't either... and no one will look down on you if you don't. Mostly Chatt appeals to very laid-back people who love nature and have a positive outlook on life, but even if that isn't you you will find something to love about UTC!

    Tips for prospective students

Buy some Chacos. EVERYONE wears them. You will most likely have to walk up large hills everyday to class and you'll need comfy shoes. Also, make sure you own an umbrella and rain boots for when it rains (maybe just a rain coat if you don't wanna be girly). Figure out what you are interested in Freshman year because life will be easier if you are taking classes you actually enjoy! Oh, and make sure you sign up for housing ASAP because getting the really nice dorms is a very stressful and competitive battle. And get a parking pass ASAP because the Parking Police here are like ninjas... they will ticket you within 10 minutes. I'm not kidding. Haha! :) Make sure you budget your time wisely and study! Oh, and take care of your health.

    Bang for the buck

UTC is seriously the best kept secret for state schools. I got a pretty good scholarship so it really isn't that expensive for me and the housing and meals are SO good!

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE CHATTANOOGA!!! The city is gorgeous and the campus is in such a great location. Everyone is friendly for the most part and if you just stay out of some of the bad areas, you'll feel completely safe. I love all the campus activities they have here, and there are SO many organizations to get involved with! I'm a part of The House Christian Ministries and it is LIFE-CHANGING!!! I feel such a sense of community with the people I've met here, and have definitely found the place where I belong. :) Chattanooga is my home-away-from-home.

    Am learning a lot

The classes here are hard even for a High School honors student and AP-class kid like myself! I mean, some are definitely harder than others... but I came in with 24 hours of AP credit so I am able to take some upper level courses here. It's wonderful to be challenged! I was so worried I wouldn't be. Gen Ed classes are awful... and boring... but they're like that everywhere.

For the money UTC is one of the better schools out there. It would have costed me double ot triple what i am paying if i attended a larger university.

    Am enjoying being here

I love UTC. I am a history major and the history department is awesome. After awhile you feel like your apart of the family and can talk to any of the professors. Most will do whatever they can to help a student. They are there to teach and help you learn; which they are doing a great job.

    Am learning a lot

What i learned most is not to skip your freshman math class just because its a 2 pm everyday. It will come back to bite you; which in my case it did and im still paying for it now as a senior.

    Campus Safety

every college campus has a few minor incidents once in a while, that's a part of life. but utc has a great notification system that alerts you almost right after something has or is occurring. they are typically quick with any response.

    Greek Life

i'm not involved in the greek life, but i have many friends that are. there is a greek organization for everyone! they have fun socials and networking opportunities. they also get involved in the community and help out through community service activities.

    Clubs and Activities

there is a club or activity for everyone! i think there is a club for every kind of major, where they bring in outside supporters for more networking. there are clubs for everyone from people that like to fish, to people who like to play music. it's definitely a diverse university.

    Bang for the buck

overall, i think utc is well worth the money. i feel like i am learning a lot, even practical stuff i will take with me to the work place. there are numerous ways to get involved, and almost everything is free for students!

    What to do for fun

the arc (recreational center) has a ton of stuff to do. they have a a large fitness center, with more workout machines than you can imagine, and classes you can take with friends. there is a pool and rock climbing wall. intramural sports are fun, as well as all the different sporting events and socials going on around campus.

    Food and Dining

the food and dining at utc is great! the cafeteria is large with a large selection of food. there are several different places to eat while on campus, and many other places within a short walking distance from campus.

    Dorm Life

make sure you know you want to live in a dorm. at utc most of the dorms are relatively close to everything on campus. i would make sure you are ready to live in a dorm before you sign up. the wait-list for dorms is long, and most freshman/sophomores live on campus.

    Academic Rigor

utc is a tough school. most of the professors want you to succeed in their classes, but you have to work for the grade you get. there are not many easy a classes, and even the general education classes require a significant amount of studying. utc is known to produce very bright and well educated students ready for the workforce.

    Tips for prospective students

pay a little extra for reserved parking, because there isn't enough general parking. get to know your academic advisor because they can save you time and money by helping you get on the right path to graduation. get involved in some kind of campus activity!

    In three sentences

utc is overall a really great school. it's a well maintained campus, and the administration is genuinely nice. there are a lot of opportunities to get involved with different people and clubs/sports on campus.

campus needs more security out at night, but for the most part it's pretty safe.

    Clubs and Activities

intramurals are quite fun! the rowing club is definitely worth checking out, a great way to meet people!

Great for these types of students

nursing, biology, health and human performance

    Bang for the buck

glad it is inexpensive (for the most part) for in-state students, but would not recommend it to out-of-state students because it is not worth it to spend that much on this school.

    What to do for fun

chattanooga is a fantastic place to live! there are plenty of outdoors opportunities, which means fun things to do without having to spend a lot of money!

    Food and Dining

not a lot of healthy options available to students.

    Dorm Life

it is very expensive to live in the dorms and the ones that are semi-affordable are really run down.

    Academic Rigor

overall the sciences are quite rigorous, as well as majors in the health and human performance department.

    Tips for prospective students

just know that parking is outrageous. it is near impossible to find parking on campus after 9am. also be aware that in this past year there have been quite a few crimes on campus, including stabbings and assaults.

    In three sentences

located in a beautiful city. safe for the most part. would only recommend to in-state students.

Go to the park, go to the ARC, hang out in the University center, and get involved in CRU or the House.

    Food and Dining

There is subway, quiznos, a home zone, a pizza place, a burger studio, and a buffet.

    In three sentences

I believe that it is a great college because it is a middle sized college with a great college community. The city is convenient, has much to offer, and they offer discounts to students. There are many opportunities to get involved at the school and in the community.

Greek life is huge, and very involved at UTC!

    Clubs and Activities

TONS OF CLUBS! If you can't find a club you are interested in, you can start your own!

Great for these types of students

UTC is great for students who love the outdoors, but it is also wonderful for people who like the best of both worlds.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some HUGE traditions are Step Show and the Oak Street Roast.

    What to do for fun

UTC has an Aquatics and Recreation Center (ARC) which has a gym, rock climbing wall, pool, lazy river, hot tub, and water slide! UTC also has an outdoor center that takes trips, but you can also rent gear from them (kayaks, canoes, camping gear, skis, snowboards, etc.).

    Food and Dining

All you can eat dining hall (Crossroads), and food court (UC).

    Dorm Life

The dorms are AMAZING! They aren't even dorms! All housing is apartment style, and there are even options in some buildings to have a room to yourself.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not too difficult. You receive the grade for the amount of work you put into the class. Grade A work, you'll probably get an A.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to apply for housing as soon as possible; it is EXTREMELY popular since it is all apartment style! By your parking pass as soon as they are up for grabs, and make sure you buy a reserved lot. They oversell the general parking passes, so the general lots tend to turn into a field for hunting.

    In three sentences

UTC is absolutely wonderful! I love the college as well as the surrounding city and mountains! Chattanooga is an amazing environment!

    What to do for fun

Go downtown and experience the night life of Chattanooga. The Aquatic Recreation Center is located on campus and is free with your Mocs Card. This building has a lazy river, spa, slide, and a rock wall.

    Food and Dining

The food is good on campus and the prices are reasonable. the campus is located downtown so there are some good restaurants that are walking distance. The down side is they do not have 24 hour McDonald's or a Taco Bell near by.

    Dorm Life

These dorms are the best. Including the look of them and the set up. UTC has the best dorms in the state of Tennessee.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are the perfect size. The professors take time to see you excel. There are plenty of computer labs open through out the day.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for housing at a early date so you do not get put on the waiting list. UTC offers so many programs outside of the classroom and gives you a chance to travel for little cost or sometimes free. This campus is small enough to walk everyday, but just in case you do not want to walk, UTC has a bus service.

    In three sentences

UTC is a school that is not too big or not too small. I enjoy everything that this school has to offer to me. The scenery alone is breathtaking.

Cardiac Hill is a central location on campus. It is a hill that regardless of how in shape you are, you will get out of breath once you get torwards the top. Most students do what they can to avoid going up this hill.

    What to do for fun

There is the ARC which is an aquatic center and a workout facility is a great place to have fun and stay in shape. The walking bridge and Coolidge Park are ideal places to go to on a nice day. The Aquarium and the Zoo are also exciting places to visit. The location of the university is in Downtown Chattanooga and there are plenty of restaurants and other places to enjoy.

    Tips for prospective students

I think that the university you are looking at is a good choice to pursue. There are many new additions to the campus such as the ARC and Aquatic center and also the campus buffet called Crossroads. The university gives you many oppurtunities to get involved and the Chattanooga area gives a potential student multiple outdoor and indoor places to explore.

    In three sentences

I rate the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at a high rating. I would say that the university as a whole deserves an eight out of ten. the reason why I say this is because there is many things under construction that make the school less appealing and some of the professors do not grade assignments when they say they will.

    Bang for the buck

The only absurd financial factor is the meal plans required for freshman to purchase.

    What to do for fun

Being in Chattanooga is just fun in general. There are always options.

    Food and Dining

There are many options, but the quality is debatable. On certain days, the food is better.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great. South campus, where I live, has great quality. For an on-campus building, it is a great deal.

    In three sentences

In recent development, the city has opened many new establishment and venues for a fun day with friends. Also, the surrounding mountains offer tons of opportunities for hiking, climbing, swimming, and camping! Chattanooga is a great city with many fun things to do!

    Food and Dining

The food at the university is definitly not 5 star, but it offers a vast variety of food options.

Dorm life will be very tight quarters living, but it's part of the college experience. Many of the campus dorms are actually not too bad.

    Greek Life

Greek life is growing but is nowhere near being on par with other schools in Tennessee or the southeast.

    Clubs and Activities

I could really not tell you. The school and clubs do a terrible job keeping you up to date on what is going on.

Great for these types of students

Not really good for anyone except people who plan on just getting by with their college education and the rest of their life.

    Bang for the buck

Bottom to middle tier institution despite what they may claim. The graduates I know have gone on to get jobs in sales that didn't pay well. The return on investment is not good at all.

    What to do for fun

There are not many on campus activities. But the school is near downtown Chattanooga where there is a lot to do.

    Food and Dining

The big chain places such as chick fil a or subway are great. I try to avoid the cafeteria at all cost.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are amazing. But just like the class schedules the school has grown too big and the administration has not done what it needs to to accomidate so you might end up living in a hotel until some of the less motivated students dropout

    Academic Rigor

The classes are very easy. You have to make sure you sign up early or classes will not be available. The student body has outgrown the faculty and class schedules and has not adjusted accordingly.

    In three sentences

This is not a school you would pick as your first choice. Many of the students are here because they did not get in elsewhere or lack ambition.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is maybe the best that I have heard of. Campus police are constantly riding around the campus ready and wiling to help anyone in need. 5 out of 5.

    Greek Life

Greek life is on an uprise. I dont think there is a better time on UTC campus to become a part of it.

    Clubs and Activities

Their are tons of activities that you can become a part of. Pus, they look exceptionally well on you resume. I encourage that you take advantage of them. 4 out of 5.

Great for these types of students

Students of all sorts will enjoy the school if they get the entire experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The crest of the school is located at the bottom of this giant hill called Lookout Mountain. The crest is said to give you bad academic experience if you walk across it.

    Bang for the buck

It is a very good school with a lot of cool people. I like it alot and recommend it to any and everyone. I give it a 3 out of 5.

    What to do for fun

UTC has an ARC (Aquatic Recreational Center) has a gym, a river type pool area, giant water-slide, plus a ton of activities that occur on campus daily.

    Food and Dining

The UC is where the food is served. Recently UTC has created Crossroads, which is an all you can eat facility. They serve a variety of good foods. I give it a 4 out of 5.

    Dorm Life

As stated above, the dorm life is remarkable. In fact, I think the are amongst the best in the entire state of TN. I love them! I rate them a 4 out of 5.

    Academic Rigor

Many classes are hard but a lot are not. In many cases it depends on the teacher that you are enrolled underneath. I rate it a 4 out of 5.

    Tips for prospective students

A few tips that I would give to prospective students are that the campus and rooms are very nice. The teacher will help you out, for the most part, if you are having trouble. If you are a frequent face in class then you will do just fine in at UTC.

    In three sentences

I think that the University School of Chattanooga is a very good school. I also think it is under-rated sort of speak due to the fact that it is one of the best business schools in the United States and a lot of people do not know it. My rating for UTC on a scale of 5 would be a 4.8.

I would suggest intramural sports! They are fun and competitive!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A restaurant called The Yellow Deli is right on campus and it has a great studying environment and really delicious food. A little farther off campus is a diner called The City Cafe Diner. It's open 24 hours and gives huge portions for hungry college students.

    What to do for fun

There are many different things to do in the city of Chattanooga. All the places being pretty close to campus. Rock City and some hiking trails aren't far away from campus. There's always a sporting event of some kind that students can go to. There are some shops and restaurants downtown that are close. Of course there are also lots of cool places on campus to just hang out.

    Food and Dining

The food staff at the university are all very friendly and that is a nice encounter every day. The actual food is average. It's nothing special or gourmet, however the school tries to offer some variety which is appreciated. I'd give the taste of the food about a 3 or 4 depending on what it is.

    Dorm Life

The dorm rooms are magnificent for the most part and are far beyond the dorms at most colleges. The south campus dorms are apartment style making living on campus comfortable. However the rooms are spread out making getting to know your neighbors more difficult.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major and classes you are taking the academic rigor varies. There are some extremely easy classes requiring little work, while others require many hours of study and work.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest each entering freshman to get involved in the activities and clubs on campus, because sometimes meeting others can be difficult. I would also suggest that they be selective in choosing both a professor and time for a class, as they are crucial in determining your success in a class. Choose an interesting professor and a time of day that you will actually go to class. Attendance is important! Also, make use of all the different help offices provided by the university.

    In three sentences

I would rate The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at an 8 out of 10 for an overall experience there. The campus is beautiful, classes are usually pretty interesting, and the professors and staff are helpful. Attending this school has improved my education and provided a fun living and studying environment.

The academics are to be pretty standard for a university. The classes are medium sized. Scholarships awarded on merit are in abundance also which never hurts.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As mentioned before one of the usual traditions is going to the downtown theater on five dollar movie night for UTC students and also there is seventy-five cent taco night on mondays at amigos nearby.

    Bang for the buck

The meal plan is not a bang for your buck. The food is sort of expensive or they should offer a high MOCSBUCKS plan for those who do not have a set amount of meals.

    What to do for fun

There are so many things to do for fun. SOme of those things include going to the neaby theater on five dollar wednesdays for UTC students, watching the sporting events, and going to the ARC to see what they offer.

    Food and Dining

The food here is pretty good. Sometimes you have to pick and choose the days you go to crossroads. Also if you go to eat in the UC you have to get in there early if you don't wanna wait in a long line.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are really nice. There are a few dorms that are like living in an apartment, meaning you get your own room!

    Academic Rigor

The grading here is on a great scale.

    Tips for prospective students

If you do not like to walk this campus is not for you. I would suggest living on campus for at least the first two years of school.

    Campus Safety

I was excited during Orientation to hear the presentation from Campus Safety. Each evening, someone walks thru the campus and veifies that each outer door is secured and locked. Also, there are apps that are available for us to install on personal devices to track them to deter theft. I feel very secure and appreciate the dedication of Campus Security.

    Clubs and Activities

Greek Life, Student Government, Sports, Gospel Choir

Great for these types of students

Engineering, Leaders, Those who enjoy nature, high spirited.

    Bang for the buck

UTC is a great college and is not incredibly expensive. The campus is beautiful and Chattanooga and a great city.

    What to do for fun

There are so many extracurricular activities that are fun and help to relieve stress. I am a member of the Student Government and we provide many fun activity opportunities. The Greek Life is awesome as well. There are even things going on during the weekend that enhance my like. For example, I am a member of the Gospel Choir and enjoy singing at venues on Sunday mornings.

There are so many options for meal plans. I can grab a quick start or set down for a healthy meal that reminds me of home. The food is delicious.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging but you will do well if you attend class and utilize resources. Instructors have great office hours and tutors are avaialable.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

I've never felt threatened on this campus. Though, I have had to call campus police because I came across two students trying to break into someone's car.

    Greek Life

UTC is VERY Greek oriented. If you aren't involved in that, it's sometimes hard to get involved in other things. Sorority girls are everywhere...and so are the stereotypical frat guys.

    Clubs and Activities

There's pretty much a club for everything. There's the PSI (Paranormal group), Spectrum (Gay/Straight Alliance), Fencing Club, LARPing, etc. etc. You name it, we've got it!

Great for these types of students

Students involved in Greek life, outgoing people, intelligent people, smokers, etc.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Zombies vs. Humans, Napping in the grass outside of the UC, Furries, etc.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is right around $14K a year, and that's including living and eating expenses. Pretty good for the high level schooling you get.

    What to do for fun

The ARC is a good place to go to swim and exercise. You can also take fencing classes there and play basketball. If you aren't into that, there's the whole city of Chattanooga to explore. There's the aquarium, movie theatres, Hyde Park, Art District, etc. etc. Best part? You can walk to all of these places from campus!

    Food and Dining

The food court in the UC is pretty good. There's an Asian place, pasta place (that's hardly ever open), chik-fil-a, Burger Studio, Quiznos, and Moe's. Prices are fairly cheap except at Moe's. I don't really recommend eating at Crossroads Dining Hall. It's usually the same stuff all the time, but it's good for when you're really hungry and want to eat a lot since it's an all-you-can-eat place.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are all very nice. I live in Boling. It has ant problems sometimes. Other than that it's good.

    Academic Rigor

I'd rather put this at 3.5 stars. Some classes are extremely tough and others are just downright easy. I ended up making an A in a class where I only did half of the work. That class was a complete joke. Definitely listen to what people have to say about the professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely register for dorms and classes ASAP! They fill up way too fast. Also, I honestly wouldn't worry about a vehicle. The parking is absolutely awful. You can walk, bike and take a bus just about anywhere for free!

    In three sentences

UTC has an absolutely fantastic campus! It's population is big, but it's campus is very close-knit. I always feel like part of the school.

    Campus Safety

Although things do happen, the school itself goes lengths to ensure safety on campus. There are phones for campus security all around, and any threats on the school lead to a squadron of police and fire vehicles at the ready. I find it impressive.

    Greek Life

Not into the greek life at UTC, but there are plenty to choose from here!

    Clubs and Activities

No matter what your fancy, we seem to have it all here. I'm still finding groups and activities that I never knew existed, and many of them will provide the tools you need, especially anything sport related.

Great for these types of students

My major, and a very large part of things here, is Engineering. We have an entire building built several years ago that is dedicated to nothing but Engineering, Math, and Computer Science. I find the large focus on engineering as a plus, and if you are going into engineering, this is the place for you!

    Bang for the buck

For what you get, I think the value of this place is amazing! I can't fully appreciate it, since I have only been with UTC, but from what I have heard... we have it good here.

    What to do for fun

Well, besides the Huge gym and aquatic center we have, there are volleyball courts set up around campus;a game room under the University Center; school Plays; band concerts; monthly goings on at the McKenzie arena (Maroon 5 performed here not too long ago I believe). Not to mention the fact that the bustling downtown Chattanooga is just a light walk away from campus.. and there are just a plethora of things to do there.. from the Aquariums, to Coolidge park and the Bridges, and the array of clubs! I don't know how people find ways to be bored around here!

    Food and Dining

There is a nice selection of restaurants on campus, but you're a 10 minute walk/5 minute drive from downtown Chattanooga. I couldn't even begin to list the restaurants in the general area, it's astonishing!

    Dorm Life

I have yet to live on campus, but I can tell you that the majority of our dorms are quite nice. We just built a few complexes of dorms a few years ago, and they are quite spacious for college dorms!

    Academic Rigor

As far as I can tell, we do well here at UTC. Many of our math courses might find you with a professor with some degree of an accent, but I am told that is a trend with all colleges. Past that, the Professors I have had were all average to incredible. My suggestion? Hit up Ratemyprofessors.com before you make class decisions.

    Tips for prospective students

Check up on your classes early, as sometimes we have problems with lack of teachers for respective courses. Also, as of right now, we are in construction mode. A full third of the center of campus is ripped to shreds and being built upon, and has been for nearly two semesters now. On the plus of this, our new library is nearly complete! Just research things before you make a final decision

    In three sentences

UTC is a great all around school, and it's in a great City. The people on campus are more laid back than some schools I've seen, and it's not as crowded as some larger campuses. It's not ridiculously expensive, and for me, it's close to home.

Chattanooga is full of all kinds of things to do for fun. Most things don't cost a penny, that means alot to a college student. You have many choices from outdoor activities to indoor museums.

    Food and Dining

Our dining room at Crossroads is really good. We also have choices in what we want to eat each day. The food is good.

    Dorm Life

UTC isn't that expensive compared to most colleges but their set up makes you end up graduating in 5 to 6 years. Other people inculding myself sometimes and or can't afford college for that long. But if you have scholarships and or an afford it it is a cheap route!

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of things to do at UTC multiple clubs, sports, games, get-togethers, There's an amazing building called the ARC and it has a Lazy river like at Dollywood Splash Country, Huge Waterslide, Hugh gym and weight room, Zumba Classes!!!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is ok But way, way to expensive. Pry you don't get stuck at the Choo Choo due to UTC's over accepting of students. I was stck at the Choo Choo for two weeks and I made friends down the hall and this one girl had BED BUGS IN HER BED and the Choo Choo refused to pay her medical bills, due to the fact she got sick from the BUGS!!! NOR DID THEY APOLOGIZE!!!!

    Tips for prospective students

Get used to being run in circles but staff. Most staff are students like you and I. They get paid to much to do the least amount of work. They expect you to know how to figure stuff out the first time. When in reality you could be from overseas and not know anything anywhere, yet they still really don't care. So be prepared to learn how to figure stuff on your own and figure how to get around on your own. Thats how i was treated and I didn't get the actual college experience. But you might have a different experience.

This school is good if you have money, but there are not a lot of opportunities for scholarships and they are very limited so most of us, including me, have to pay a lot out of pocket when we don't even have that kind of money.

    What to do for fun

Um, there are parties to go to of course but go at your own risk. But there is not just that there are a lot of places that Chattanooga has that most people never did, or had in there own place, before coming here. Go climb a mountain and see sights you've never thought possible to see just in a normal state of Tennessee.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in coming to this school, know that in Chattanooga it likes to rain and switch up weather all the time, so if you are up for that it's perfect! Also, be open to jumping into new things or your experience will not be that fun. Find the best professors you can because if you don't then first semester will not be that invigorating in studies.

    In three sentences

It is a good school if your are interested in becoming part of a sorority or fraternity but if you aren't there are other activities to do. The only problem is knowing how to find them and the schedule conflict with classes. Also, there is not much of communication between school and students about extra activities that go on, except sports events really.

    Food and Dining

UTC has great meal plans to offer along with an awesome food court with plenty of well known restaurants to purchase from. Downtown Chattanooga is only footsteps away with tons of appealing restaurants as well.

    Dorm Life

There are a Variety of dorms at UTC to fit you're liking financially and personally. The dorms are very nice and relatively new. I'm staying in Walker this year. Walker is one of the more luxurious dorms. It has a kitchen, a living room, 4 bedrooms, and 2 full bathrooms. I'm expecting that my stay will be phenomenal.

    Tips for prospective students

-If you are someone who enjoys the out doors, UTC is your calling. -the location has much to offer on an off campus -if you're going to school for nursing like I am, I would strongly suggest UTC, seeing that it obtains one of the most prestige nursing programs in Tennessee

    In three sentences

UTC's beautiful campus sits right in the middle of one of the most amazing locations Tennessee has to offer. Aside from the amazing attractions of downtown Chattanooga, you also have the beautiful mountainous terrain and glorious rivers and lakes (Tennessee River, Duck River, Ocoee). On an honest scale of 1-10 based off of location, academics, and life on campus, I would go with a score of 10 without hesitation. -Go Mocs!

Located on the outskirts of campus is the Yellow-Deli, a restaurant notoriously heralded with rumors the notion that it's actually a cult. Once you are employed, you can never get out. The food is yummy at the Yellow-Deli. Once you slip in you wouldn't think twice why you came. But will you leave?

    Bang for the buck

Because UTC is both a highly credible college and extremely affordable, UTC is the best bang for the buck school you can land yourself in to. After getting a degree under your belt at UTC, you are highly marketable for local and out of state companies.

    What to do for fun

At UTC, students head outdoors to take advantage of the beautiful natural wonders surrounding them on campus. There is Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain to do hiking on, and bike trails winding around Battlefield Parkway. For the less adventurous, down town Chattanooga features some of the best dining in Tennessee and the scenic walking bridge. There are too many things to do at the Art District, just minutes away from campus.

    Food and Dining

From Chick fi lay, to Thai cuisine UTC has it all on campus. Whatever you're in the mood to have, UTC has. Through UTC's amazing meal plans, you are able to stay full and keep you're wallet fuller.

    Dorm Life

UTC's dorm life is fun, filling, and productive. You are on the in with fellow peers as well as teachers which creates a great social pallet for you to be energized from. Brand new dorms have been built that offer a sophisticated way of life for a student. Come prepared to make a lot of memories.

    Academic Rigor

Prepare to be pushed at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Many have been shocked at how far you must go to earn your grade. Professors expect the most from their students, but they professionally treat them with respect as adults.

    Tips for prospective students

For those aiming to be a Chattanooga Moc, it is extremely important to have recommendation letters that speak for your qualities in team atmospheres as well as a high GPA and ACT score. With these three things you may be illegible for the many scholarships UTC has to offer. It is important to nail down what you are wanting to do and accomplish in college as well. The more you are sure of yourself, the more you will be helped and effective in your courses.

    In three sentences

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga features a wide broad of gifted, eclectic professors that enthuse student's with their passion. The school as a well rounded scope for student's potential in the job seeking world. On one side you have the brand new architecture, lazy river swimming pool and library- and on the other side there are cutting edge programs so you get the best of both worlds.

    Campus Safety

Much of campus is a safe and secure place. But as with any downtown city, there is its fair share of shady locations and places. At dark, stay in groups or near popular areas. Most of all, just be smart about your decisions at night. Be aware of who is around you, and use common sense. Campus PD is always a phone call away as well.

    Greek Life

There are different fraternities and sororities for anyone to join. This is for anyone wishing to avoid the crazy stories of large party schools but who still enjoy the typical antics of greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs are the same as you would find at any school, but the range of activities available are so vastly different because the university is near the Smoky Mountains, the Ocoee River, and still a part of a fun downtown city that takes care of its surroundings, its environment, and its people.

    Bang for the buck

As far as In-state tuition and fees, I got everything I bargained for. There are plenty of entertaining events to attend or things to do, and I learned an incredible amount in the classroom. As far as room and board goes, they charge an exorbitant amount. The rooms are upscale and very comfortable, but pricey. Be prepared to pull some more loans or work for more scholarships if you want to stay on campus.

    What to do for fun

The school and student body always organizes weekend trips to the mountains or the rivers nearby. Keep an eye out for flyers. Being in such an important city, there are also no shortage of attractions, including the aquarium or nearby Ruby Falls. It is a gorgeous place to visit, and always an exciting place to live.

    Food and Dining

The on campus locations provide much less diverse options than I had expected. If you are vegetarian, or simply want to be healthy, good luck. The city of Chattanooga houses a lot of great dining options, but the campus itself was unfortunately lacking.

    Dorm Life

The dorms/apartments are the best in the south. They are expensive, but you will find everything you could possibly need. They have renovated numerous buildings, and even recently built the UC Foundation. There are many opportunities for private rooms too for those who need some personal space.

    Academic Rigor

This all depends on the student's willingness to help him/herself. There are opportunities to improve and learn outside the classroom, if one is willing to try. The teachers can only do so much in the classroom, and most of them are willing to give tips or even look over a rough draft or two if you give them the chance. The school has a wonderful, but tough, English department.

    Tips for prospective students

Always explore outside of your safe zone. We all come to college with our own ideas of what we like or want to do, but never be afraid to hear what someone else has to say. Obtaining all the insight you can will give you much more comforting (or exciting!) experiences that you will always take with you.

    In three sentences

UTC is an engaging and interactive community. It strives to provide every reason for students to attend, ranging from organized athletics to helpful academics to weekend trips with fellow students to a safe and open place for expression. The city is full of adventure with amazingly friendly people.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is top notch. If you ever feel uncomfortable or find yourself in an unsafe situation, police are always around and the college makes it easy for you to get in touch with them.

    Clubs and Activities

This college gives many clubs and activities for everyone. Everyone can find themselves in a group. It's best to be part of the crowd and be social.

Great for these types of students

On campus there is a big diversity of people. There's not one type of people here. Everyone's welcome.

    What to do for fun

The college is very close to downtown giving you a lot of opportunities to get away from the college life and relax and have some fun in your free time. There's many restaurants, the aquarium, and theaters.

    Food and Dining

The college gives you a meal plan that is very satisfactory. There's a variety of restaurants on campus.

    Dorm Life

There are several different types of dorms that will fit your needs.

    Academic Rigor

The college pushes you to strive to do your best and makes you work hard for what you're trying to achieve.

If your bored you can go to the ARC where you can workout, play basketball, go for a swim, and much more. This fitness facilitiy also has many little tournaments from basketball to dodgeball. There is also a volleyball court right next to the Lockmiller dorms. In the University Center you can visit the game room to kill some time and have a good time.

    Food and Dining

The University Center has many great restaurants. They have healthy food or greasy fast food, just whatever your feeling. They have Chick Fil A, a salad bar, Quizznos, many more tasty places to choose from. Also with a food plan you can headover to Crossroads, which has a buffet and other great cheap food right next to all your classes.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are an excellent start to your college career. They are fairly new and by far the nicest dorms in Tennessee. Living in these co-ed dorms is a great way to meet new people so keep the door open.

    Academic Rigor

The school work can be very tough, but the teachers are willing to work with you and take their job as educators very seriously. On top of that this university has free tutoring for anyone who needs extra help. The math center is also very helpful, so don't be afraid to ask for help.

    Tips for prospective students

For future students, be active. There are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of at the university. The greek life is great. There are plenty of competitive intramural sports and one of the nicest fitness facility around to keep you from that freshman fifteen. This school also gives you plenty of opportunities for fantastic internships in preparation for your long term career.

    In three sentences

This is a great university in my opinion, and the students that attend this school. Chattanooga is a beautiful city, and there is always something to do. Not only is the school very nice, but the teachers are great and are willing to work with you if you are having trouble.

    What to do for fun

The city and surrounding community offers lots to do for the outdoorsman.

    Food and Dining

As with any cafeteria the food is rather repetative. Having a kitchen in dorm really helps. I would suggest getting the 160 block plan for meals and suplement with your own cooking.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are the best part of choosing UTC. The dorms are more like apartments and allow students to experience dorm life while also having some private space.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class. Study. Get your parking pass early. Take advantage of tutoring labs.

    In three sentences

If you want a smaller campus this is a great school. The city has a lot to offer and is surrounded by a lot of nature. Campus living is the best in the state.

    Typical campus food

    Dorm Life

This campus offers nice four bedroom dorms that have real kitchens. But the number of rooms is low so you have to apply at the exact moment they become available to have a real chance at getting one.

    Tips for prospective students

It is my suggestion that you do not attend the large group visit days. All of my other campus visits have been small groups (12 - 15 people) and in those groups there was a much more personal feeling.

    In three sentences

I visited this campus during the 2013 Fall Visit Day. The students and facility were warm and full of spirit, but the campus visit experience fell well short due to logistical issues. Visiting campus with several hundred other families, listening to speeches over a horrible public address system, being herded around the campus in large groups was not a positive experience.

Plenty to do for fun on and off campus. on campus comes with different fun activities such as shows, clubs, organizations and parties. then off campus you have movie theaters, restaurants, bowling and more all around the city from downtown to brainerd rd. once you know your way around the city, itll be easy to find something to do.

    Food and Dining

pretty good. they have subway and crossroads for those who like buffet food as well as a nice decent changing food court with all types of varieties of food in the UC.

    Dorm Life

Pretty decent for the experience for the first couple of years. after while it will grow but otherwise you would prefer to stay off campus if a loner, otherwise i recommend staying on dorms for social and fun life.

    Academic Rigor

very good academically, could be better in terms of instructors but good overall

    Tips for prospective students

Will recommend students to be real focused on the work and understand that some teachers will help more outside of class than in class since it is alot of students in one class. also would recommend buying books from online sites instead of the bookstore and staying in south side of campus.

    In three sentences

Pretty secluded area that focuses on presentation and experience. has alot of history and prestige and has really come a long way from its beginning. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars if able.

Throughout the campus, UTC has a blue light system. If you press the button on this system, you are guaranteed a UTC police officer will arrive at your destination in 60 seconds. These are great if you are walking home alone at night and are feeling anxious or unsafe. They will also assist you if you are hurt and unable to arrive home.

    Greek Life

Currently I am a member of Greek life at UTC and it is one of the best decisions I have made. It is a great opportunity to create long lasting relationships. Being involved in Greek life gives you the ability to stay involved on campus and in the community. If you are interested in community service, it provides multiple great opportunities.

    What to do for fun

There are always things going on at the campus: concerts, games, smashing cars for charity. Don't be afraid to get active. Also, Chattanooga is home to an aquarium, Rock City, the river, etc. It's a beautiful city, you just have to explore!

    Food and Dining

There are two places to dine on campus, the University Center and Crossroads. At the UC we have Chick-Fil-A, Moe's, a burger place, a salad place, and a alternating booth that serves Rita's Italian Ice, Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe, and Sugar's Ribs. There is also a small market that has coffee, sandwiches, and other miscellaneous items. Crossroads is the dining hall which contains, pasta, pizza, burgers, salads, deli, home-zone, and desserts. It also contains a Subway. The food is decent but be careful because I have heard a few horror stories.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is excellent! The campus was all apartment living until a couple years ago. The only issue is that there is not enough housing so one must apply early or you might be stuck living in the Chattanooga Choo Choo (hotel for overflow housing).

    Academic Rigor

Academics really depend on the teacher you have. For instance, my freshman English teacher is considered the hardest at my level, whereas, my roommate has one of the easiest. Use resources like rate my professor to assist, but do not solely base your choices off it.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early for housing and scholarships and beware that they oversell parking and it's ridiculous. Also, keep in mind that if you live off campus, don't buy general parking and get upset if you can't find a space. Be safe and buy reserved!

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful, especially in fall because everything is turning rich reds and oranges. The community is close-knit and largely involved; something new and exciting is happening every week. One of the best schools to attend in Tennessee if you are looking for a smaller, more involved campus.

    Bang for the buck

No this is not community college prices, but there is always something free to do or something free being given out.

    What to do for fun

What do we do for fun? One simple word outdoors!! UTC has an amazing outdoor program in our recreation center. They do a whole bunch of stuff for free! Chattanooga is so close to everything. I love how outdoorsy it is.

    Food and Dining

The food court has several options, and our food buffet has amazing desserts. Sometimes though, you just want to eat at home.

    Dorm Life

Apartment style dorms? Why would you not! There are some newer ones, and some that are farther from campus. No matter what though, they are better than living in traditional dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers sometimes seem hard, but honestly they do want you to pass. I have not met a teacher with less than 6 hours of office hours each week. You are the only person who can decide how hard college is going to be.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not fall for the college parting stereotype. I have seen so many of my friends fail out because they want to feel like a college student. Honestly being a college student is learning. It is what you pay to come here for. Meeting people and having fun fall into place after your grades are in check.

    In three sentences

This psycho lady stands in the middle of campus telling all the students that we're going to hell because of everything we do. Some kid got tackled, pepper sprayed, and arrested for stepping inside the circle because he just wanted to ride his bike through the circle. By the way, if she's standing in that circle (a woman that does not pay to attend this school and screams obscenities for hours) you are not allowed to walk through it or you (the student who pays to go to this school) will get in trouble.

    What to do for fun

Depending on your definition of fun, the amount of money you have, and if you have a vehicle, you could have many things to do or virtually nothing to do. If you don't bring a car, you will regret it.

    Food and Dining

The food at UTC sucks. They have nothing healthy except for some salad place which is like $12 a meal for one person. I do enjoy Chick-Fil-A and the burger studio in the University Center but you can only eat the same stuff so many times. And Crossroads is just terrible except for the Subway that's in there.

    Dorm Life

I live in Johnson Obear and I love it there! It's so nice but you will probably get depressed at first because it is really scary being on your own but once you get used to it, you'll love it. You won't want to come home.

    Academic Rigor

I honestly don't think it's very impressive if you get accepted to this school because the standards are very low to get in. Although, the classes are usually easy, they're a TON of work. Like, you will be working on your homework for hours every night most likely.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you go to ratemyprofessor when picking classes and don't take any class you think you might miss frequently because you will probably fail. Don't come here if you're anti-social because you'll hate it. If you're a person that enjoys getting involved in school activities then I would probably recommend this school to you.

    In three sentences

    1. They will try to take money from you any chance they can. 2. They do have some pretty good programs here. 3. You probably won't like it here unless you're a person who likes to get really involved in any kind of activity at school.

    Bang for the buck

Being a state school, UTC is fairly cheap, particularly with their fairly generous scholarships. Many good students with much of any outside scholarships get refund checks. Despite its relative inexpensiveness, it has many very good teachers who are happy to help dedicated students and nurture talent when they see it.

    What to do for fun

There are many student organizations of course, but downtown Chattanooga is close by, which is home to an excellent aquarium. Coolidge park is also fairly convenient.

    Food and Dining

There is an all-you-can-eat cafeteria as well as a food court in the University Center with places like Moe's, Chik-fil-a, and a Chinese place. There is also a subway open until midnight on weeknights and two convenience stores on campus open late as well.

    Dorm Life

All dorms are apartment style with a living room and kitchen. Some have laundry facilities in the rooms, but they all have free laundry washers and dryers.

    Academic Rigor

Many of their programs are not especially difficult, but those that are typically difficult are challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to apply to the Brock Scholars, it's a great honors program, and, if you're out-of-state, they give you a waiver for out-of-state fees.

There are a lot of homeless people walking around, so I am hoping that the school addresses this soon. I like to run, but running by myself is sometimes kind of scary. We did have a resident aide, though, that made us feel much safer within the dorm itself.

    Greek Life

There are sororities and fraternities but I am not a member. My boyfriend, however, is a member of one and really likes it. There are many activities associated with these, so if you are into that sort of thing, join.

Great for these types of students

If you are outgoing, you will really like Chattanooga. Everyone is friendly and fun. If you are somewhat shy, it might take you a while to feel like you fit in, but give it a chance! My first year was more difficult because I did not know anyone. But once I opened up a little and met a few friends, I feel much more at home now.

    What to do for fun

I always run with my friends. We are also joining a softball league in the next couple of weeks. I believe there is something for everyone if you look hard enough.

    Food and Dining

Food was always available, whenever you were hungry. I am thankful for this since I am a night owl at times. Studying was much easier on a full stomach.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was challenging since I did not know my roommates. We did not have very much in common, but this gave me a chance to look outside the box and adapt to different cultures. I did enjoy my dorm life. I am glad that I can always say that I have experienced dorm life (my mom regrets that she never had the opportunity!).

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are very knowledgeable and friendly. The nursing school is somewhat challenging, but this is probably a good thing if you want to be the best. I believe that I am getting the very best education in nursing here.

    Tips for prospective students

It helps to know someone who is also attending this school. If you are far away from home, the transition is much easier if there is someone you already know. Living in the dorm, however, opens the door to meet a lot of new and interesting people.

    In three sentences

UTC is a place where I can study for my nursing career and meet new friends at the same time. The teachers will work with you to make sure you are adapting well and understand what is expected of you. This campus has become my home away from home.

    Campus Safety

I never feel unsafe on campus! There is usually campus security officers walking around at night, and we have phones all around campus to use when we need help.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Patten Chapel is extremely beautiful and used quite often for weddings from what I have heard!

    Bang for the buck

I would definitely say UTC is more than worth the money! It is a great school where most of the teachers honestly care about their students. You cannot find that at every school!

    What to do for fun

There's always programs that are put on by the resident assistants, and there are various programs put on by different clubs every week. Also, there's almost always larping in the middle of campus to keep you entertained.

    Food and Dining

We have two dining facilities that are great. They are the UC and Crossroads.

    Dorm Life

UTC has the best college dorms I have ever seen, although they are not referred to as dorms here. We live in apartments! In many of the apartments people are not sharing rooms, and even if they are it is not a typical small bedroom. Here we have larger rooms for those who share bedrooms, and many students do not share. Residence life at my university is amazing.

    Academic Rigor

In my experience here so far, UTC's academics are absolutely fantastic. I am a Criminal Justice major, and the professors I have are helpful and truly interested in teaching the students.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! There are so many excited and fun ways to get involved at UTC.

    In three sentences

Attending UTC was an amazing choice! Even though I am so far from home, I feel at home here too! Everyone here is extremely nice and helpful.

    Bang for the buck

Its not too expensive, but its also not as cheap as a community college may be. It is defiantly worth the money thats paid though.

    What to do for fun

Hiking, rock climbing, going to sports games, visiting new restaurants, go to art shows, go swimming, walking along the river.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone in Chattanooga! It is a really really cool city full of SPECTACULAR restaurants, great hiking trails, and nice people. Don't be intimidated about the hipster places either. Although they may be odd or different than what is the norm around the US, these Chattanoogans care about everyone there and are very proud of their city.

    In three sentences

The campus sits in the beautiful Tennessee valley between two wonderful, old, lush mountains (Signal Mt. and Raccoon Mt.) so in all directions a wonderful sight could be seen. The campus is full of diverse, nice people who were drawn to UT at Chattanooga because there is something unique about it. The teachers long to teach the students well, the campus draws you in, and the sheer beauty of the area keeps you there.
