Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students with goals. The academics are great so be ready to work hard.
Tips for prospective students Consider this school and compare it to other schools on size, expenses and personality.
Bang for the buck After not being able to afford the University of Tennessee at Knoxville because of the cost of tuition, I came to UTC. I could not have made a better choice. Everything is less expensive. Not only is it less expensive but you get more for your money. A smaller campus means more individual attention from professors if you need it. The 'dorms' aren't the typical dorms. All of them feature two bedrooms, a bathroom (with 2 sinks) a full kitchen, living room and storage space. They come furnished with all kitchen appliances (stove top, microwave, refrigerator, sink and toaster oven), 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 dressers and 2 closets in each room, a kitchen table with 4 chairs, a couch and a chair for the living room. Each room has Internet and cable. The brand new gym is free anytime you want to go-it has all machines, basketball courts, rock climbing wall, etc. The campus if full of life everywhere you go and the little expense it costs is worth the price.
Am enjoying being here Chattanooga is a very beautiful place and the campus is small enough to pass at least someone you know everyday. Classes are medium in size and you can always get individual help from professors or tutors. The food is good ranging from Quiznos and Chik-fil-A to wraps, sushi and salads. The brand new gym is wonderful and the Aquatic center, once completed Fall 2010, will be decked out with a swimming pool, lazy river and water slide. There are plenty of clubs, intramurals, etc. to join and the musical performances are great. Plenty of things to do on and off campus with downtown within walking distance.
Am learning a lot I've learned so much, not just in classes but being on my own and on campus. Responsibility is huge when in college. You have to study twice the amount of time you're in class. Aside from academics, I've learned how to cope without my circle of friends from high school. You quickly learn to make new friends and manage your time. Everything is coming together and I know when the academics get harder, I know I've got solid social skills behind me.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Student who learn better in smaller class sizes, non-traditional students and those who prefer to live at home and commute. Other than general education classes, most have what I call a 'high school' class size, around twenty-ish. Calling all business majors, the business school here is ranked one of the best in the country. It is great for students who do not want to be overwhelmed by a 30,000 student school, but would get bored at a small school with a thousand students. I love it! :)
Tips for prospective students Please come visit! Maybe I'll see you around! :) If a student does apply, please apply for housing at the same time, don't wait! Even if you are not sure you are going to attend it is worth the small deposit fee, to guarantee a housing spot. Make sure the application is complete and on time! Be yourself! Have fun with the college admission process.
Bang for the buck The price is definitely worth the education you receive. This campus is the up-and-coming UT campus, and many renovations are being done to bring this school to its full potential. New buildings and state of the art facilities are being added including a renovated Grote Hall and a new recreation center. The professors at UTC really care about their students so you are guaranteed a great education for an in-state price.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE being here. The dorms are some of the best in the state. Having apartment style rooms is great because students can cook, and not have to feel crammed in a tiny room to eat, sleep, and study in. The campus is not too big, but not too small. Having 10,000 is a great size. The campus is fairly compact so one can get anywhere in only a few minutes, but don't push it (I've tried, not recommended ;) There are tons of ways to get involved, intramurals, clubs to fit any personality and greek life are all popular choices. Greek life is much more relaxed than other schools, so give it a try!
Am learning a lot I am a freshman at UTC this year and have learned so much already. Classes can be difficult or easy, it all depends on what the student would like to take. Taking challenging classes is great here, I can push myself to learn even more by doing this. There are plenty of opportunities to explore a wide variety of classes for those who are undecided through general education requirements.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you like to meet new people but don't want be overcrowded, this is a good place for you. The campus is just the right size and it is close to all the downtown Chattanooga attractions so if you want to go to the aquarium, you just walk down the hill.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and don't party alot. Sororities and Fraternities can wait. Your education comes first.
Bang for the buck The cost is very expensive, but I strive to do good in my classes so that I can get scholarships and financial aid to help me further my career. I want to join a fraternity, but I realize that my grades come first, so I study hard. I guess when it really comes down to it, this school is worth the cost.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus here and I have met so many new people. I usually play basketball in my free time with the new friends I have met. It's always something to do here and I am glad I chose this college to further my education.
Am learning a lot I have learned a lot of things here, but mostly I have learned new study methods. I have a good relationship with my teachers and I am able to ask for help when I need it. The classes aren't too big so the teachers have more time to help you when you need it. I want to major in communications and being able to relate to my teachers and participate in class is a big part of communicating.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want a smaller campus, big enough to where everyone doesn't know your personal life but small enough not to get lost all the time and you can wake up five minutes before class and get there on time.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! I did not want to join a sorority when I came to school but I decided to rush anyways. After I went through recruitment I was in love and having a blast. It made college a lot easier and a LOT more fun. If a fraternity or sorority is not your thing, find another involvement to get into. There is so much to offer for a smaller school.
Bang for the buck Although college can get expensive, I feel that I have chosen a great place to resume my education. With it being a smaller school, I feel like not only is it less money than a major university, but you can get more one-on-one time with your professors which makes your money worth while.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE IT HERE!! I will be a Sophomore this year and could not have found a better school for myself. I have made a lot of new friends which is very easy considering the small campus.
Am learning a lot I have a great choice of classes to choose from. Because the classes are relatively small, I get to talk to my teachers more and can ask for more help if needed, which might not happen in a larger school. I'm not bored in class but not overly stressed with my load.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for education bound, bussiness bound, and art bound students looking for a great college to earn their degrees.
Tips for prospective students Look for scholarships as soon as possible and do not wait until the last minute.
Bang for the buck Any college that you decide on going to is going to be a chunk of money from your pocket, but the good thing about UTC is that tuition is cheap if you live in the state of Tennessee. They have a lot of different dorms you can choose from to live in. The newest and nicest dorms just so happen to be the most expensive. The South Campus dorms are quite pricey, but they are worth every penny for the safety you feel and the friends you make. The school provides so much for such a small price.
Am enjoying being here I am enjoying being at UTC because of the freedom of living in a dorm. I have made many friends through my classes and my building that I live in. The campus is a smaller size than usual campuses you may see somewhere else. I believe that the smaller campus helps you be more social. You see people that you know all the time, but it also gives you a chance to see and meet new people. Sororities and Fraternities are a great way to make new friends, but there are also many different church groups such as the House and the CRU that you can get involved in and meet new people. The city of Chattanooga is beautiful and the campus is easy to navigate around. I am proud to call myself a MOC because UTC really is a terrific school.
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot here because of the small class sizes and the ability to connect with the professors. UTC has so many accomidations to fit what ever major you happen to be studying. The Engineering, Math, and Computer Science building, also known as the EMCS building, is one of the best buildings on campus. There are four floors and each floor is perfectly suited for the specified majors. If you are an undecided major, you have the opportunity to scope out everything that you might be interested in and choose your major from there. You are never rushed into decisions that you may or may not be ready for.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any student.
Tips for prospective students The hills here are killers, but the shuttle is free and runs all over campus.
Bang for the buck It is not very expensive to attend UTC. Close to all activities are free because it is included in your tuition. There is a free state of the art workout facility and all athletic events are free as well.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus and the on-campus living. The dorms are apartment style and I love it.
Am learning a lot I love the teaching methods here at UTC. The instructors are willing to communicate with each student one-on-one. Great interaction.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Pretty much anyone. Living and commuting in the heart of the city can be too urban-ish for some, but its only for a couple years, right? Chattanooga is a very artsy place, but it is also great for all things outdoors and active.
Tips for prospective students Apply early - being an early bird helps a lot when it comes to selecting a room on campus. Also, go to an early orientation - you select your first classes at orientation and they fill up fast during the summer.
Bang for the buck With only the school and lottery scholarships, I go to college, live, and eat for only around $1,600 a semester. Most of my friends and roommates actually get refund checks, so the school is paying them, not the other way around.
Am enjoying being here UTC has a great feeling campus... its not too large and every where you go you run into people you know. The on-campus living is the best anywhere, and having an actual apartment as opposed to a tiny dorm helps you feel more like an adult. All the staff are nice, and there are so many activities on campus and around Chattanooga to keep anyone from being bored.
Am learning a lot The staff here is very dedicated and tries very hard to serve the students as best they can. If you want to learn, the professors at UTC are more than happy to help any way they can.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students GO TO CLASS! Do not let the lack of an attendance policy make you lazy! You will not pass.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do in Chattanooga! From restaurants to movie theaters to mini golf, downtown has it all! That is really great for the people who cannot stay in their dorm the entire semester!
Am learning a lot I have learned a lot at UTC. Most of the professors are really good about helping out out if you need the extra help. They want to make sure that you understand the material they are presenting you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People who are prepared to fight every step of the way people who are willing to go the extra mile and manage not only their school work, and school schedule - but will also work as their own HR rep and stay on top of everything.
Tips for prospective students You don't want to transfer in here or your first semester will be a waste - transfer students register after everyone else and there is almost nothing open at that time. Register early if you can, and check, double check, triple check all of your accounts at least 3 times a week. Your financial aid account, your class schedules, all of that. At any time it could all get erased and you will have to start working to get it all back. Make friends with the administrative assistant of your department head. Since the school's administration won't help you - these wonderful ladies can be miracle workers when it comes to reclaiming lost schedules. I have been to 5 different colleges - you CAN have a good experience here but just know that you have to be willing to manage everything yourself. It's great practice for that management job you will have some day.
Bang for the buck The costs are increasing dramatically but the class numbers are not - meaning you may only want a 4 year degree but you may have to spend 6 years here to get into the classes you need in order to graduate. Many classes are available at half the cost at Chattanooga State, and I know a large number of students who go to both just to save money. The parking cost is way to high to park in a dirt lot and have to ride a bus the rest of the way to campus. The Dorms are extremely expensive when you factor in that you are also required to purchase an overprice meal plan to go with it. UTC will do what they can to get every last penny from the students and offer almost no help in financial aid.
Am enjoying being here Though the professors are A quality - the administration from financial aid to records earn an F. Every semester at least 3 people I know have their classes erased. They had me down as two students and my student ID still doesn't work (it's been a year). Every semester I have had to fill out multiple forms with financial aid because of computer glitches or individual's errors on my account throwing out my financial aid. It has always worked out in the end but I have spent countless hours on the phone or in the office of various admins who generally don't know what's going on or how to help. I have asked around campus and this seems to be a systemic issue with this school.
Am learning a lot Most departments are staffed with excellent professors who are very knowledgeable about their field and are very exited to educate. There are two departments that are notoriously bad here - Physics is known for terrible teaching and frustrated students, and about half of the Chemistry department. The Biology department is fantastic and I couldn't ask for better professors. Most of the professors on campus are more than happy to spend extra time with the students to make sure that they are learning what they need to learn.

Categories Comments Am enjoying being here I absolutely LOVE this school. It's been a wonderful first year experience. The campus is just the right size, and you can walk anywhere on campus within 10 minutes. It's a beautiful city, and it's a beautiful campus. The dorms are all apartment style, so you get the best of living on campus. I truly love this school, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Am learning a lot The classes are great. The only department I have a hard time with is the Math department. Otherwise, all the teachers I have are really helpful.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck College is expensive no matter which way you slice it. Fortunately, UTC helps students and parents make things realistically affordable.
What to do for fun The school has a facility called the ARC. You may rock climb, swim, learn to dance and defend yourself. Honestly I can't name everything they offer.
Food and Dining No one can go hungry at UTC. They have something for everyone.
Dorm Life AMAZING! Dorm rooms look like apartments. I would not mind living there all four years. Definitely worth the money.
Academic Rigor Same academic rigor as UTK but much more affordable. definitely pushes students to do what they can do and more.
Tips for prospective students Act early, do your homework. Get to know the college well. If you really want to get to know the school, make an appointment to get a tour. You will not be disappointed.
In three sentences It is a clean, safe campus with friendly staff and friendly students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Police are awesome! Very friendly and their response time is superb. They are so helpful and easy to reach.
Greek Life The Greek Life on campus in very popular and involved in the community service in Chattanooga.
Clubs and Activities UTC offers a wide range of intramural sports and different on campus clubs that range from academia to community service. There is something for everyone.
Great for these types of students Students that are interested in outdoors, great for students that want to be teachers or engineers, an excellent fine arts center, and a top of the line business school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a chapel on campus that is supposedly haunted. Makes for fun late night walks on campus.
Bang for the buck UTC offers so much for such an affordable price. The Financial Aid office is really helpful and provides you with a lot of different scholarships to apply for.
What to do for fun The town has a ton of fun stuff, being that we are surrounded by mountains, a fun downtown, and the Tennessee River. But the Aquatics and Recreation Center on campus has a full gym, track, basketball courts, FREE outdoor equipment rentals, a rock climbing wall, 2 pools, a lazy river around the pools, and a giant water slide. UTC pretty much takes care of it all.
Food and Dining The on campus dining is great. There are a few coffee shops on campus (a Starbucks is being built in the new library currently under construction. There is a food court in the University Center that offers a wide range of foods like burgers, pizza, wraps, sandwiches, soul food, salads, Chinese food, and even milkshakes. There is also another dining service in which you pay when you walk in and there is a huge variety of different foods and it is all you can eat! The wide variety also allows you to make healthy choices, which is really important.
Dorm Life Dorm life here rocks! I spent the first 2 years living on campus. The dorms at UTC are apartment style. There are many different buildings, but in most of them you get your own bedroom, you share a bathroom with one other person, there is a living room and kitchen..with a washer and dryer!! It doesn't get much better than that. Plus..it is literally a 7 minute walk to class AT MOST! It is so convenient.
Academic Rigor UTC is a challenging school, like any other University, but the professors here are incredible. They are always willing to help you outside of class and they know you by name, even in large classes. They genuinely want to see you succeed. The bottom line is that college can be tough anywhere, but finding one that pushes you to the next level, while supporting you along the way makes it worthwhile; UTC does this for its students.
Tips for prospective students I would be sure to make Chattanooga your home when you come here. Too many people see college as just 4 years, but it is where you will live for four years. Students need to get involved in school and in the community and it makes college so much better. UTC has so many different opportunities to get involved in.
In three sentences UTC is an excellent school because of the affordability, convenience, and educational programs. The school is on the rise in the State of Tennessee and I have never met a student that dislikes it. The simplicity of life, mixed with the downtown location makes it the perfect place to go to college!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students In-State, those that feel they have problems on the payment, those who want to stay close to home.
Tips for prospective students Study. Ask professors or other students if you need help on something you are struggling on.
Bang for the buck It is a relatively cheap university to get accepted into. Money problems are not much of an issue if you have scholarship money. It is a bit more expensive for out-of-state students.
Will enjoy being here It is a large campus and many people you know from high school that are great friends might end up here. You can find yourself doing many things at UTC and you will be satisfied.
Will learn a lot Learning is the number one thing a college will offer. I believe that many professors are willing to help you learn and are willing to help you if needed. Classes are not too difficult, but that could change if not a lot of studying is done.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTC is a good campus for just about any type of student. I've met everyone from Star Wars fiends to lacrosse players to underwater photographers. It is easy to be yourself on campus because everyone is so different.
Tips for prospective students A few things to remember about UTC: You can print up to 5 pages at a time for free in the UTC Writing Center in Holt Hall, always keep spare change in your car in case you can't find a parking spot and need to park at a meter, parking in most lots is free after 5, online classes are the BEST, and always get to know your advisor really well...you'll need them more than you know. Oh, and make sure you figure out what classes you want LONG before registration time, because the day registration opens is CRAZY hectic.
Bang for the buck UTC offers quite a bit of financial aid, which is very helpful. Any classes over 12 credit hours per semester are free, so anyone can cut down their college costs if they are willing to work a little harder. Also, there are many jobs on campus that help pay for tuition.
Am enjoying being here UTC is a great campus! It is small enough to not be overwhelming and large enough that there is always something to do. From outdoor movies to the ARC fitness center to the many computer labs on campus, there is always something to do for everyone!
Am learning a lot I love UTC's learning environment. Most of the classes I have had are small in size, so each student can get one-on-one help from the professors when they need it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's great for all types of students. One thing I can say is this campus is very diverse and everyone seems to get along really well.
Tips for prospective students Get your enrollment, housing, and parking decals early. This campus is becoming more and more popular and housing is limited on campus. So, unless you actually want to commute to school each day and fight to find parking I suggest you get all of that done early. Also, get involved in a few of the organizations on campus. There is something for everyone!
Bang for the buck This school was worth the money in the beginning, but with the tuition and enrollment hike it has gotten outrageous. There are several charges that I am always questioning. However, I am getting a great education. The extra fees are the only thing that bother me.
Am enjoying being here Chattanooga is a very interesting place, especially if you get off of campus. There is usually something fun and interesting to do on campus, but there is also a great deal of things going on in the community. The weather is schizophrenic sometimes though. There are several on-campus clubs and organizations that you can easily get associated with.
Am learning a lot I am a Criminal Justice major so my department is small. You are more than likely going to have a teacher more than once. The classrooms are usually smaller settings so you can get assistance with your work pretty easily. I am proud to say i have stayed on the dean's list!! As long as you are willing to do the work the professors will help you!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Chattanooga is really good for a diverse amount of people, but you will find a lot of outdoorsy-type people here simply because of the amazing hiking and camping and kayaking (the list goes on and on) that Chattanooga offers. There are also a lot of really fit people here because of the awesome Exercise Science major and the newly completed (fantastic) Aquatic Recreation Center. Sorority and Fraternity people can definitely find one they like here, but there are also plenty of people who aren't into that as well. There is a big Christian population here with a club for practically every denomination, but there are also non-religious people. There are a lot of drinkers and party-ers, but I don't do either of those things and I have a lot of friends who don't either... and no one will look down on you if you don't. Mostly Chatt appeals to very laid-back people who love nature and have a positive outlook on life, but even if that isn't you you will find something to love about UTC!
Tips for prospective students Buy some Chacos. EVERYONE wears them. You will most likely have to walk up large hills everyday to class and you'll need comfy shoes. Also, make sure you own an umbrella and rain boots for when it rains (maybe just a rain coat if you don't wanna be girly). Figure out what you are interested in Freshman year because life will be easier if you are taking classes you actually enjoy! Oh, and make sure you sign up for housing ASAP because getting the really nice dorms is a very stressful and competitive battle. And get a parking pass ASAP because the Parking Police here are like ninjas... they will ticket you within 10 minutes. I'm not kidding. Haha! :) Make sure you budget your time wisely and study! Oh, and take care of your health.
Bang for the buck UTC is seriously the best kept secret for state schools. I got a pretty good scholarship so it really isn't that expensive for me and the housing and meals are SO good!
Am enjoying being here I LOVE CHATTANOOGA!!! The city is gorgeous and the campus is in such a great location. Everyone is friendly for the most part and if you just stay out of some of the bad areas, you'll feel completely safe. I love all the campus activities they have here, and there are SO many organizations to get involved with! I'm a part of The House Christian Ministries and it is LIFE-CHANGING!!! I feel such a sense of community with the people I've met here, and have definitely found the place where I belong. :) Chattanooga is my home-away-from-home.
Am learning a lot The classes here are hard even for a High School honors student and AP-class kid like myself! I mean, some are definitely harder than others... but I came in with 24 hours of AP credit so I am able to take some upper level courses here. It's wonderful to be challenged! I was so worried I wouldn't be. Gen Ed classes are awful... and boring... but they're like that everywhere.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Always register early. The earlier you can do something it will help. Because UTC is growing the number of classes and spots are shrinking. So early for anything is always better.
Bang for the buck For the money UTC is one of the better schools out there. It would have costed me double ot triple what i am paying if i attended a larger university.
Am enjoying being here I love UTC. I am a history major and the history department is awesome. After awhile you feel like your apart of the family and can talk to any of the professors. Most will do whatever they can to help a student. They are there to teach and help you learn; which they are doing a great job.
Am learning a lot What i learned most is not to skip your freshman math class just because its a 2 pm everyday. It will come back to bite you; which in my case it did and im still paying for it now as a senior.

Categories Comments Campus Safety every college campus has a few minor incidents once in a while, that's a part of life. but utc has a great notification system that alerts you almost right after something has or is occurring. they are typically quick with any response.
Greek Life i'm not involved in the greek life, but i have many friends that are. there is a greek organization for everyone! they have fun socials and networking opportunities. they also get involved in the community and help out through community service activities.
Clubs and Activities there is a club or activity for everyone! i think there is a club for every kind of major, where they bring in outside supporters for more networking. there are clubs for everyone from people that like to fish, to people who like to play music. it's definitely a diverse university.
Bang for the buck overall, i think utc is well worth the money. i feel like i am learning a lot, even practical stuff i will take with me to the work place. there are numerous ways to get involved, and almost everything is free for students!
What to do for fun the arc (recreational center) has a ton of stuff to do. they have a a large fitness center, with more workout machines than you can imagine, and classes you can take with friends. there is a pool and rock climbing wall. intramural sports are fun, as well as all the different sporting events and socials going on around campus.
Food and Dining the food and dining at utc is great! the cafeteria is large with a large selection of food. there are several different places to eat while on campus, and many other places within a short walking distance from campus.
Dorm Life make sure you know you want to live in a dorm. at utc most of the dorms are relatively close to everything on campus. i would make sure you are ready to live in a dorm before you sign up. the wait-list for dorms is long, and most freshman/sophomores live on campus.
Academic Rigor utc is a tough school. most of the professors want you to succeed in their classes, but you have to work for the grade you get. there are not many easy a classes, and even the general education classes require a significant amount of studying. utc is known to produce very bright and well educated students ready for the workforce.
Tips for prospective students pay a little extra for reserved parking, because there isn't enough general parking. get to know your academic advisor because they can save you time and money by helping you get on the right path to graduation. get involved in some kind of campus activity!
In three sentences utc is overall a really great school. it's a well maintained campus, and the administration is genuinely nice. there are a lot of opportunities to get involved with different people and clubs/sports on campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus needs more security out at night, but for the most part it's pretty safe.
Clubs and Activities intramurals are quite fun! the rowing club is definitely worth checking out, a great way to meet people!
Great for these types of students nursing, biology, health and human performance
Bang for the buck glad it is inexpensive (for the most part) for in-state students, but would not recommend it to out-of-state students because it is not worth it to spend that much on this school.
What to do for fun chattanooga is a fantastic place to live! there are plenty of outdoors opportunities, which means fun things to do without having to spend a lot of money!
Food and Dining not a lot of healthy options available to students.
Dorm Life it is very expensive to live in the dorms and the ones that are semi-affordable are really run down.
Academic Rigor overall the sciences are quite rigorous, as well as majors in the health and human performance department.
Tips for prospective students just know that parking is outrageous. it is near impossible to find parking on campus after 9am. also be aware that in this past year there have been quite a few crimes on campus, including stabbings and assaults.
In three sentences located in a beautiful city. safe for the most part. would only recommend to in-state students.

Great for these types of students People who want to be successful and still have a social lfe.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is huge, and very involved at UTC!
Clubs and Activities TONS OF CLUBS! If you can't find a club you are interested in, you can start your own!
Great for these types of students UTC is great for students who love the outdoors, but it is also wonderful for people who like the best of both worlds.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some HUGE traditions are Step Show and the Oak Street Roast.
What to do for fun UTC has an Aquatics and Recreation Center (ARC) which has a gym, rock climbing wall, pool, lazy river, hot tub, and water slide! UTC also has an outdoor center that takes trips, but you can also rent gear from them (kayaks, canoes, camping gear, skis, snowboards, etc.).
Food and Dining All you can eat dining hall (Crossroads), and food court (UC).
Dorm Life The dorms are AMAZING! They aren't even dorms! All housing is apartment style, and there are even options in some buildings to have a room to yourself.
Academic Rigor The classes are not too difficult. You receive the grade for the amount of work you put into the class. Grade A work, you'll probably get an A.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to apply for housing as soon as possible; it is EXTREMELY popular since it is all apartment style! By your parking pass as soon as they are up for grabs, and make sure you buy a reserved lot. They oversell the general parking passes, so the general lots tend to turn into a field for hunting.
In three sentences UTC is absolutely wonderful! I love the college as well as the surrounding city and mountains! Chattanooga is an amazing environment!

Categories Comments What to do for fun Go downtown and experience the night life of Chattanooga. The Aquatic Recreation Center is located on campus and is free with your Mocs Card. This building has a lazy river, spa, slide, and a rock wall.
Food and Dining The food is good on campus and the prices are reasonable. the campus is located downtown so there are some good restaurants that are walking distance. The down side is they do not have 24 hour McDonald's or a Taco Bell near by.
Dorm Life These dorms are the best. Including the look of them and the set up. UTC has the best dorms in the state of Tennessee.
Academic Rigor The classes are the perfect size. The professors take time to see you excel. There are plenty of computer labs open through out the day.
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing at a early date so you do not get put on the waiting list. UTC offers so many programs outside of the classroom and gives you a chance to travel for little cost or sometimes free. This campus is small enough to walk everyday, but just in case you do not want to walk, UTC has a bus service.
In three sentences UTC is a school that is not too big or not too small. I enjoy everything that this school has to offer to me. The scenery alone is breathtaking.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is pretty big on this university! There are many different sororities and fraternities that one can choose from. They are also very active on campus and the community.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Cardiac Hill is a central location on campus. It is a hill that regardless of how in shape you are, you will get out of breath once you get torwards the top. Most students do what they can to avoid going up this hill.
What to do for fun There is the ARC which is an aquatic center and a workout facility is a great place to have fun and stay in shape. The walking bridge and Coolidge Park are ideal places to go to on a nice day. The Aquarium and the Zoo are also exciting places to visit. The location of the university is in Downtown Chattanooga and there are plenty of restaurants and other places to enjoy.
Tips for prospective students I think that the university you are looking at is a good choice to pursue. There are many new additions to the campus such as the ARC and Aquatic center and also the campus buffet called Crossroads. The university gives you many oppurtunities to get involved and the Chattanooga area gives a potential student multiple outdoor and indoor places to explore.
In three sentences I rate the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at a high rating. I would say that the university as a whole deserves an eight out of ten. the reason why I say this is because there is many things under construction that make the school less appealing and some of the professors do not grade assignments when they say they will.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are a few issues around campus, but our campus police seem to take care of them in a timely manner. I had an issue and when I reported it, police were on the scene before I got off the phone. It is a very responsive system.
Bang for the buck The only absurd financial factor is the meal plans required for freshman to purchase.
What to do for fun Being in Chattanooga is just fun in general. There are always options.
Food and Dining There are many options, but the quality is debatable. On certain days, the food is better.
Dorm Life The dorms are great. South campus, where I live, has great quality. For an on-campus building, it is a great deal.
Academic Rigor The biggest problem is getting the top of the line classes.
Tips for prospective students Don't procrastinate on getting classes. If you do, you are more than likely going to get the 8 am or classes you don't even want.
In three sentences I love it here. There is so much to do, and you get the education you are after. Even though classes are a little tough to get into, there are so many reasons to go to this school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Ive heard of criminal activity and violence on campus and surrounding areas, but I've never personally experienced or been effected by it.
What to do for fun Chattanooga is an old city that has and is currently flurishing into a city of growth and opportunity. In recent development, the city has opened many new establishment and venues for a fun day with friends. Also, the surrounding mountains offer tons of opportunities for hiking, climbing, swimming, and camping! Chattanooga is a great city with many fun things to do!
Food and Dining The food at the university is definitly not 5 star, but it offers a vast variety of food options.
Dorm Life Dorm life will be very tight quarters living, but it's part of the college experience. Many of the campus dorms are actually not too bad.
Academic Rigor I haven't begun classes yet but my older sister has. I have heard the work load at any university will be more challenging than your standard high school education. Having said that, if you can keep you priorities straight you have a good shot at performing well in your academics.
Tips for prospective students Work hard, play hard!
In three sentences Chattanooga is an awesome city nestled in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. The student body is a welcoming and fun crowd. Its a great university to invest your time and money into.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is growing but is nowhere near being on par with other schools in Tennessee or the southeast.
Clubs and Activities I could really not tell you. The school and clubs do a terrible job keeping you up to date on what is going on.
Great for these types of students Not really good for anyone except people who plan on just getting by with their college education and the rest of their life.
Bang for the buck Bottom to middle tier institution despite what they may claim. The graduates I know have gone on to get jobs in sales that didn't pay well. The return on investment is not good at all.
What to do for fun There are not many on campus activities. But the school is near downtown Chattanooga where there is a lot to do.
Food and Dining The big chain places such as chick fil a or subway are great. I try to avoid the cafeteria at all cost.
Dorm Life The dorms are amazing. But just like the class schedules the school has grown too big and the administration has not done what it needs to to accomidate so you might end up living in a hotel until some of the less motivated students dropout
Academic Rigor The classes are very easy. You have to make sure you sign up early or classes will not be available. The student body has outgrown the faculty and class schedules and has not adjusted accordingly.
In three sentences This is not a school you would pick as your first choice. Many of the students are here because they did not get in elsewhere or lack ambition.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Even though South Campus is right next to MLK Blvd, the campus police are always around. Also, the blue Emergency lights at the corners of each street and in parking lots help me feel safer.
Greek Life It isn't big like other schools, but I say you try Greek Life. From my experience, it's fun and a great way to get to know people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus YELLOW DELI. Its open 24/5, the perfect place to study. Also, it's pretty good food too!
Bang for the buck Yellow Deli. City Cafe. Other places downtown.
What to do for fun Go to the Yellow Deli, City Cafe, the aqaurium, Coolidge Park, or the river.
Food and Dining The UC is the place to eat, even though it only takes Mocs Bucks. CrossRoads doesn't have good, or even healthy food. They also got shut down for a day for health reasons.
Dorm Life Most dorms on South Campus are apartment style, and are actually really nice dorms. The RA's are usually really cool and chill as well.
Academic Rigor Most classes aren't too hard if you actually try and do your work.
Tips for prospective students Go to class, don't skip all the time. It will hurt you in the end.
In three sentences Overall, a great college. Smaller campus, so not as long of walks to classes. Also, the city of Chattanooga is beautiful!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is maybe the best that I have heard of. Campus police are constantly riding around the campus ready and wiling to help anyone in need. 5 out of 5.
Greek Life Greek life is on an uprise. I dont think there is a better time on UTC campus to become a part of it.
Clubs and Activities Their are tons of activities that you can become a part of. Pus, they look exceptionally well on you resume. I encourage that you take advantage of them. 4 out of 5.
Great for these types of students Students of all sorts will enjoy the school if they get the entire experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The crest of the school is located at the bottom of this giant hill called Lookout Mountain. The crest is said to give you bad academic experience if you walk across it.
Bang for the buck It is a very good school with a lot of cool people. I like it alot and recommend it to any and everyone. I give it a 3 out of 5.
What to do for fun UTC has an ARC (Aquatic Recreational Center) has a gym, a river type pool area, giant water-slide, plus a ton of activities that occur on campus daily.
Food and Dining The UC is where the food is served. Recently UTC has created Crossroads, which is an all you can eat facility. They serve a variety of good foods. I give it a 4 out of 5.
Dorm Life As stated above, the dorm life is remarkable. In fact, I think the are amongst the best in the entire state of TN. I love them! I rate them a 4 out of 5.
Academic Rigor Many classes are hard but a lot are not. In many cases it depends on the teacher that you are enrolled underneath. I rate it a 4 out of 5.
Tips for prospective students A few tips that I would give to prospective students are that the campus and rooms are very nice. The teacher will help you out, for the most part, if you are having trouble. If you are a frequent face in class then you will do just fine in at UTC.
In three sentences I think that the University School of Chattanooga is a very good school. I also think it is under-rated sort of speak due to the fact that it is one of the best business schools in the United States and a lot of people do not know it. My rating for UTC on a scale of 5 would be a 4.8.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities I would suggest intramural sports! They are fun and competitive!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A restaurant called The Yellow Deli is right on campus and it has a great studying environment and really delicious food. A little farther off campus is a diner called The City Cafe Diner. It's open 24 hours and gives huge portions for hungry college students.
What to do for fun There are many different things to do in the city of Chattanooga. All the places being pretty close to campus. Rock City and some hiking trails aren't far away from campus. There's always a sporting event of some kind that students can go to. There are some shops and restaurants downtown that are close. Of course there are also lots of cool places on campus to just hang out.
Food and Dining The food staff at the university are all very friendly and that is a nice encounter every day. The actual food is average. It's nothing special or gourmet, however the school tries to offer some variety which is appreciated. I'd give the taste of the food about a 3 or 4 depending on what it is.
Dorm Life The dorm rooms are magnificent for the most part and are far beyond the dorms at most colleges. The south campus dorms are apartment style making living on campus comfortable. However the rooms are spread out making getting to know your neighbors more difficult.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major and classes you are taking the academic rigor varies. There are some extremely easy classes requiring little work, while others require many hours of study and work.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest each entering freshman to get involved in the activities and clubs on campus, because sometimes meeting others can be difficult. I would also suggest that they be selective in choosing both a professor and time for a class, as they are crucial in determining your success in a class. Choose an interesting professor and a time of day that you will actually go to class. Attendance is important! Also, make use of all the different help offices provided by the university.
In three sentences I would rate The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at an 8 out of 10 for an overall experience there. The campus is beautiful, classes are usually pretty interesting, and the professors and staff are helpful. Attending this school has improved my education and provided a fun living and studying environment.

Food and Dining The food is good sometimes you can get tired of it. But they recently have a buffet which is awesome! They have Chinese food, pizza, chick-fil-a, burger studio, quiznos, subway and home zone which is home cooked for.
Dorm Life Every dorm has there own kitchen which is nice, you will have to share a bathroom so hopefully you have a good roommate. Some dorms come with washer and dryers in them.
Academic Rigor You really have to keep your head in the game with your academics and keep your GPA up.
Tips for prospective students Come ready to do work! College is totally different from high school, you have to be ready to work and STUDY STUDY STUDY. You do get to have fun and met amazing people but you have to remember why your there.
In three sentences I would rate UTC a 4 out of 5. It is a great school and the area is awesome. Some classes are small and some are large it just depends on the subject.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never felt threatened on this campus. Though, I have had to call campus police because I came across two students trying to break into someone's car.
Greek Life UTC is VERY Greek oriented. If you aren't involved in that, it's sometimes hard to get involved in other things. Sorority girls are everywhere...and so are the stereotypical frat guys.
Clubs and Activities There's pretty much a club for everything. There's the PSI (Paranormal group), Spectrum (Gay/Straight Alliance), Fencing Club, LARPing, etc. etc. You name it, we've got it!
Great for these types of students Students involved in Greek life, outgoing people, intelligent people, smokers, etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Zombies vs. Humans, Napping in the grass outside of the UC, Furries, etc.
Bang for the buck Tuition is right around $14K a year, and that's including living and eating expenses. Pretty good for the high level schooling you get.
What to do for fun The ARC is a good place to go to swim and exercise. You can also take fencing classes there and play basketball. If you aren't into that, there's the whole city of Chattanooga to explore. There's the aquarium, movie theatres, Hyde Park, Art District, etc. etc. Best part? You can walk to all of these places from campus!
Food and Dining The food court in the UC is pretty good. There's an Asian place, pasta place (that's hardly ever open), chik-fil-a, Burger Studio, Quiznos, and Moe's. Prices are fairly cheap except at Moe's. I don't really recommend eating at Crossroads Dining Hall. It's usually the same stuff all the time, but it's good for when you're really hungry and want to eat a lot since it's an all-you-can-eat place.
Dorm Life The dorms are all very nice. I live in Boling. It has ant problems sometimes. Other than that it's good.
Academic Rigor I'd rather put this at 3.5 stars. Some classes are extremely tough and others are just downright easy. I ended up making an A in a class where I only did half of the work. That class was a complete joke. Definitely listen to what people have to say about the professors.
Tips for prospective students Definitely register for dorms and classes ASAP! They fill up way too fast. Also, I honestly wouldn't worry about a vehicle. The parking is absolutely awful. You can walk, bike and take a bus just about anywhere for free!
In three sentences UTC has an absolutely fantastic campus! It's population is big, but it's campus is very close-knit. I always feel like part of the school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Although things do happen, the school itself goes lengths to ensure safety on campus. There are phones for campus security all around, and any threats on the school lead to a squadron of police and fire vehicles at the ready. I find it impressive.
Greek Life Not into the greek life at UTC, but there are plenty to choose from here!
Clubs and Activities No matter what your fancy, we seem to have it all here. I'm still finding groups and activities that I never knew existed, and many of them will provide the tools you need, especially anything sport related.
Great for these types of students My major, and a very large part of things here, is Engineering. We have an entire building built several years ago that is dedicated to nothing but Engineering, Math, and Computer Science. I find the large focus on engineering as a plus, and if you are going into engineering, this is the place for you!
Bang for the buck For what you get, I think the value of this place is amazing! I can't fully appreciate it, since I have only been with UTC, but from what I have heard... we have it good here.
What to do for fun Well, besides the Huge gym and aquatic center we have, there are volleyball courts set up around campus;a game room under the University Center; school Plays; band concerts; monthly goings on at the McKenzie arena (Maroon 5 performed here not too long ago I believe). Not to mention the fact that the bustling downtown Chattanooga is just a light walk away from campus.. and there are just a plethora of things to do there.. from the Aquariums, to Coolidge park and the Bridges, and the array of clubs! I don't know how people find ways to be bored around here!
Food and Dining There is a nice selection of restaurants on campus, but you're a 10 minute walk/5 minute drive from downtown Chattanooga. I couldn't even begin to list the restaurants in the general area, it's astonishing!
Dorm Life I have yet to live on campus, but I can tell you that the majority of our dorms are quite nice. We just built a few complexes of dorms a few years ago, and they are quite spacious for college dorms!
Academic Rigor As far as I can tell, we do well here at UTC. Many of our math courses might find you with a professor with some degree of an accent, but I am told that is a trend with all colleges. Past that, the Professors I have had were all average to incredible. My suggestion? Hit up Ratemyprofessors.com before you make class decisions.
Tips for prospective students Check up on your classes early, as sometimes we have problems with lack of teachers for respective courses. Also, as of right now, we are in construction mode. A full third of the center of campus is ripped to shreds and being built upon, and has been for nearly two semesters now. On the plus of this, our new library is nearly complete! Just research things before you make a final decision
In three sentences UTC is a great all around school, and it's in a great City. The people on campus are more laid back than some schools I've seen, and it's not as crowded as some larger campuses. It's not ridiculously expensive, and for me, it's close to home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The whole campus is well lite. The campus police are everywhere you go and students look out for each other.
Greek Life Greek Life at UTC is something I can't comment on yet. Planning on rushing next year.
Clubs and Activities There is clubs and activities for everyone here. The best thing is to get involved.
Great for these types of students All types of students will love it at UTC. There is something for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My favorite location is the Arc. It has an indoor water park.
Bang for the buck UTC has the best Freshman Orientation, it last two days but is full of information. They are excited about students coming and learning together.
What to do for fun Chattanooga is full of all kinds of things to do for fun. Most things don't cost a penny, that means alot to a college student. You have many choices from outdoor activities to indoor museums.
Food and Dining Our dining room at Crossroads is really good. We also have choices in what we want to eat each day. The food is good.
Dorm Life Dorn life at UTC is a great way to grow up and meet new friends. They have activities always. Never is a boring moment.
Academic Rigor Professors are knowlegeable and are egar to help. They make learning fun in every way.
Tips for prospective students The best tip for prospective students is to come visit UTC. It sells itself.
In three sentences The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is filled with so much opportunities. I feel UTC is the best college in all of Tennessee because it is a beautiful campus and has the best Professors. UTC is the best because everyone is so willing to help and support me in all my activities.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Crossroads isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem. However, we're paying 1600 a semester for a meal plan and only get 450 max in mocs bucks which is a rip off.
Dorm Life Excellent, the south campus dorms are really nice.. The only problem is the walk to class can be long. Lockmillers dorms aren't very nice but the environment there is wonderful.
Academic Rigor Not very challenging compared to other schools. May be hard for students who had easy classes in high school.
In three sentences This school is good as a backup. I wouldn't recommend it if you were accepted top more prestigious schools. There are mostly Tennessee natives here so it gets old seeing the same faces.

Food and Dining They have everything you could possibly want to eat.
Dorm Life The dorms are great because you can choose between the college dorm experience or you can get more of an apartment style dorm.
Academic Rigor They offer many classes and will challenge you to be the best you can be.
Tips for prospective students Apply early to make sure you get housing and are eligible for scholarships.
In three sentences The campus is absolutely gorgeous. They seem to be up to date with the technology and provide plenty of resources for their students. Plus they are going to have a Starbucks.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Blue lights are located all over campus to help students feel safe. Also, I see police at least once a day patrolling, so there's no need to fear.
Greek Life Greek life is extremely prominent on campus. There are an immense number of fraternity boys and sorority girls walking around on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's just a lot of construction undergoing on campus as of late, which can get a little hectic, but it will be over soon.
What to do for fun The campus is right in the middle of downtown, so there's a lot of places to go if you get bored. Also, it's just a 20 minute drive to several malls that are HUGE. If those types of entertainment aren't your cup of tea, Chattanooga has plenty of outdoor recreational areas since it's right by a bunch of mountains.
Food and Dining In comparison to my friends' colleges, the food is pretty amazing. There are a lot of options for food, and most of it is pretty decent.
Dorm Life There is a huge sense of community between the dorm communities on campus.
Academic Rigor So far I haven't had too much trouble keeping up in my classes. If you go to class and do your work, you most likely will not fail.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships early, take your general education requirements first, and study all the time!
In three sentences This school is a great place to go if you want that small town feel but like the city. The campus is big but not overwhelming, therefore it's perfect! Plus, the people and faculty are outstanding.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you are on palmetto street and want an adventure, head to the 3rd sewer drain and go in it. If you venture far enough in it's depths you will eventually find a house of platypi. No joke.
Bang for the buck I think tuition and housing is overpriced, but it is like that for every American university.
What to do for fun Well the city of Chattanooga itself has numerous things to do for fun. Whether it is attending one of the local concerts, exploring the large Aquarium, going to the movies, or just going to the local amusement park. People will always have something fun to do.
Food and Dining UTC offers a wide range of foods from many cultures. Japanese, Italian, Mexican, or just straight American; no one will be displeased with the food there.
Dorm Life The quality of dorm life depends on which dorm you choose. Some dorms are noticeably better than others.
Academic Rigor As long as you study you will be fine.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to register, and do everything early at that university.
In three sentences It is a very friendly school. No one will be displeased with the professors or classes offered. I personally would like to further my education there due to the campus atmosphere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always campus security and police around the campus at all times. I have never felt unsafe on campus.
Greek Life This is a big and successful part of our campus. Many students find that greek life is the right choice for them.
Clubs and Activities There is a vast array of activities. They always try and make sure there is something for everyone.
Great for these types of students This campus is great for the studious and outdoorsy types of students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every now and then they have unwanted guests on campus. Some want to try and sale religion or chow disturbing photos of abortion and things like that. I feel these could be done without.
Bang for the buck I would say it is average. I do not feel they go above or beyond what is expected.
What to do for fun The city is beautiful. There is walking, hiking, concerts, festivals, etc. There is always something to do in or around here.
Food and Dining There could be better options and healthier ones.
Dorm Life I have not lived on campus therefore I am not the person to ask.
Academic Rigor This school is very challenging in most of its classes and will challenge you as a student.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus, it makes everything easier and more available.
In three sentences Beautiful School. There is a lack of teachers in certain departments. There needs to be more emphasis placed on the parking situation.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The cops take FOrever in my opinon, but my situation was WAY DIFFERENT..they did help me feel protected though. Campus is somewhat well lit. But there is what they called Blue Light Poles which they have all over campus for when your walking alone at night for example and you feel in danger run to the blue light pole push the but and an officer will be on the way!!
Great for these types of students This school for students with somewhat amount of money, time, scholarships, and patience... and or love the outdoors!!!!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One place I did enjoy going was THE WALKING BRIDGE (the walnut street bridge)...it's about a mile and a half long and you can see the view of downtown chattanooga, the river, the park, bikers etc. Really beautiful and romantic!!!
Bang for the buck UTC isn't that expensive compared to most colleges but their set up makes you end up graduating in 5 to 6 years. Other people inculding myself sometimes and or can't afford college for that long. But if you have scholarships and or an afford it it is a cheap route!
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do at UTC multiple clubs, sports, games, get-togethers, There's an amazing building called the ARC and it has a Lazy river like at Dollywood Splash Country, Huge Waterslide, Hugh gym and weight room, Zumba Classes!!!
Food and Dining Food is like any other typical college dining food court but UTC also has an additonal food court with Chick-fil-a, Moe's etc...but Ive heard from my friends that most of the food was undercooked and or nasty!
Dorm Life Dorm life is ok But way, way to expensive. Pry you don't get stuck at the Choo Choo due to UTC's over accepting of students. I was stck at the Choo Choo for two weeks and I made friends down the hall and this one girl had BED BUGS IN HER BED and the Choo Choo refused to pay her medical bills, due to the fact she got sick from the BUGS!!! NOR DID THEY APOLOGIZE!!!!
Tips for prospective students Get used to being run in circles but staff. Most staff are students like you and I. They get paid to much to do the least amount of work. They expect you to know how to figure stuff out the first time. When in reality you could be from overseas and not know anything anywhere, yet they still really don't care. So be prepared to learn how to figure stuff on your own and figure how to get around on your own. Thats how i was treated and I didn't get the actual college experience. But you might have a different experience.
In three sentences University Of Tennessee at Chattanooga is an amazing campus! But, not very organized. I felt like I wasn't helped or got the help I needed when navigating my way around campus. And not to mention it was a NIGHTMARE to find anything on the UTC website. Way too cluttered and confusing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel like at night there needs to be more campus police around because the school is not put in the best location already as far as crime rates go.
Great for these types of students This school is great for any type of student. I think that students involved in the Greek Life and athletes tend to enjoy the school a little more than most.
What to do for fun There is a lot of fun things to do downtown Chattanooga. Also, campus helps with keeping us entertained by hosting a lot of fun events.
Food and Dining The food is pretty good. My only complaints are that we need more variety in the UC and crossroads food is not always fresh.
Dorm Life I love the apartment style dorms. The only bad dorms are stagmiaer, they are not apartment style like the rest.
Academic Rigor The classes are very challenging and will keep you on your toes. The professors do their best to help you.
Tips for prospective students I would take my gen-ed classes at a two year school because there is no guarantee that you will get in the classes that you need to take. There are too many students and not enough professors.
In three sentences The school is for sure over crowded. It has a very fun environment to it. It needs more parking.

Categories Comments Greek Life There are many sororities and fraternities on campus. They all have great ties to the Chattanooga community and have awesome philanthropy weeks.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You cannot step on the seals in the middle of the campus. It is said that if you do then you will fail all of your finals.
What to do for fun There are many outreach programs, along with Greek life, and student organizations on campus. The new workout facility is also a very friendly environment and has many intramural games.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should get to know the campus and see if that campus is best for them. The walk around campus and the dorms are significant factors to a school.
In three sentences This school allows me a great educational opportunity and the professors are always willing to help. There is great community involvement along with many large firms assisting students in getting an internship or continuing on to get a masters degree.
