    Great for these types of students

    Anyone who wants to get away from a hectic city environment and is looking for a more calm and passive atmosphere will probably enjoy this more than everyone else :)
    Tips for prospective students

    I would advise prospective students to just enjoy the time they have on campus. UTB is very relaxed and everyone gets along with everyone else here. It's not unpleasant.

    Considering that tuition isn't all that expensive in comparison to other colleges in Texas, it saddens me to say that yes. You do get your money's worth!
    Am enjoying being here

    This campus isn't all too exciting as far as student life goes. There aren't too many organizations to join and the ones that ARE on campus, aren't very exciting. The dorms aren't very appealing and there really isn't much around campus except for a downtown area.
    Am learning a lot

    Despite what many people say about the teachers at this University, I truly believe that I have received a quality education here thus far :)

    the campus is very safe because the security guards are always around at all times, the are available twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week.

    There are several traditions we have that most of other parts of the nation don't even know about. For example, Charro Days is a very fun and exciting festival we celebrate at the end of February each year. Students are actually out of school for a couple of days due to this holiday. We have parades, small concerts, carnivals, and many more stuff. This area is highly influenced by the Mexican culture since we are only five minutes away from Mexico.
    What to do for fun

    One of the things why I love living in South Texas is that the beach is only 20 minutes away. After a stressful week of school, after finals, or at the end of the semester is always great to just go spend a day at the beach and relax.
    Food and Dining

    We used to have a cafeteria with a variety of good choices, but recently they have replaced that with a chick-fil-a. Don't get me wrong, I love chick-fil-a, but having that as our only choice was not a very good idea.
    Dorm Life

    I can't exactly say how is the dorm life since I don't live on campus, but many of my friends do and they love it. Besides the dorms, the school also owns apartments right around the campus which are very nice.
    Academic Rigor

    I believe that all colleges are basically the same. In order to pass your classes you must, first of all, attend your classes and actually READ and STUDY. Although, I do believe that classes in this campus are pretty easy.

    I believe that this university has a lot of potential, but students who attend college just to fool around only have a negative effect on the school and the students who actually want to do something out of their lives. Overall, I believe most of the professors in this university want the best for their students and will grant you their help.

    UTB is a really great university for Psychology majors and Education majors.

    If planning to attend UTB, you must be informed of every single resource they provide here on campus.
    Bang for the buck

    Tuition fees are generally less than many other schools. For those in seek of financial aid, there are several opportunities such as grants, scholarships and loans.
    Am enjoying being here

    UTB is the best place for me. It has not only been a wonderful experience and beautiful campus, but also allowed me to stay at home with my family.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors are amazing here. I am majoring in Psychology or Cognitive Development and I have had a great time studying and obtaining every class I need to take.

    The University of Texas at Brownsvilee or as we call it UTB is a really well structured university; campus and staff wise. The UTB athlectics program rocks and it has an amazing REK center. I love UTB TSC.

    the education you receive matches the amount you pay, in which case, is a poor amount. the classes are as cheap as your professor's teaching plans. nearly all of my teachers were either uneducated, absent, or both. it is easy to get an a, but with the amount of effort your teachers and classmates put in, it will be very easy to slack off and get a b or c.
    What to do for fun

    the mall is a five minute drive from the campus. the exercise area (rek) is a top notch area. other than that, there are very few campus activities, and most are selective towards athletes.

    there is very limited food selections; i am not even sure if there is an on-campus cafeteria.
    Dorm Life

    the dorms are one of the best things about the campus. the new housing is within a brand new apartment that was purchased by the school.
    Tips for prospective students

    prospective students should understand that, despite the fact that the college is relatively cheap, there will be a lot of older students, especially adults that are attending in order to finish their education, so the campus will not feel like a college, but rather than an all-age daycare.

    the campus is not active with student to student interaction; the campus does not feel like a college. the arts center is phenomenal, but the school's music programs are not up to the same level as the building itself. the campus feels surprisingly safe though, despite being so close to the mexican border.

    There's no need to leave your city, having such and advances university. Stay here and help yourself out with less spending. Ask for advising in your career pathway. Never forget that you could achieve anything in this world.

    So far as what I have seen, it's a pretty good pace to begin with my study. I could rate it from a scale of 1 to 10 an 9. I' am more than glad to attend to this campus.

    What to do for fun

    What I do for fun, is hang out with my friends and spend time with my girlfriend. There are a lot of activities on campus however because of my schedule some times I am unable to attend. But nevertheless this university has great student life.

    There is not many options on campus but restaurants nearby are excellent. Having from local businesses to large corporations like McDonald, wing-stop, among others. So there is a large variety of food nearby.
    Dorm Life

    Excellent new dorms, that's all I have to say.

    It is strict in some way but you can still do most of the things other colleges offer.

    Do things on time. Make sure to take all the exams required in each of the institutions your planning to attend. And once inside do every assignment before the deadline.

    The University Of Texas at Brownsville is a great option for anyone who is still undecided to where to continue their education. Whit a great variety of degrees there should be one right for you. And also the culture of being next to Mexico makes our institution one of the best to attend.

    We have great security, between the UTB police and regular border patrol agents on bikes, I'm feeling safe.

    The Catholic Diocese has Wednesday lunch on campus, all you have to do is give a dollar or two donation and you will get a great meal.

    I know there is Friday night movie on the lawn, it is so cool. You can bring blankets or chairs and set up an area on the lawn to and watch free movies.

    The food is good, I just wish there was more choices.

    I live off campus, although some of my class mates have told me its a blast on campus.

    Depends on your degree, the nursing program is very difficult. 5 stars

    Find the guidance you need to complete your degree plan, design your class schedule, decide on a particular program or simply get clarity when you need it most with the help of one of our academic advisors. Manage your financial aid application early, receive loan counseling, apply for grants, work study and other types of aid and always get a detailed breakdown of everything.

    They have stations where you can press a button and they will be there with in 5 min. When ever you get your keys locked in the car it is easy to call someone to open it for you.
    What to do for fun

    I usually go to the REK to work out and play ping pong with my husband. There is also the Student Union room where you can go and hang out with friends while you play pool. Also, there is a park near by that you can go take a stroll at.
    Food and Dining

    Barns and Nobles is an amazing place to read and have a frapiccino with some friends. The food is good, there are a couple of shops that have your favorites. There is also some restaurants near by that aren't that pricey.

    I live at home with my mother-in-law. I have never seen them so wouldnt have an opinion on that.
    Academic Rigor

    There are easy and hard teachers in every college. Some of the teachers i have had are amazing and work with the students to get where they want to be. But there are those teachers that hate coming to class and give you pop quizzes for no reason.
    Tips for prospective students

    Riding a bicycle around campus helps on the hot days and helps you get to class faster. Register right away and attend mandatory advising when you have time. Study! Study! Study!

    I love the weather, even though it can get a bit hot. The teachers are a great help, always asking and pushing us to become better students. Not a lot of parking, but they are working on it.

    Campus police is always alert. We always have presentations on how to contact our campus police all the time. The school keeps us well informed on what to do in any situation that may occur.
    Clubs and Activities

    I would definitely recommend the video game club to anyone who enjoys video gaming and competing. There is also a Sign Language Club and it is always very interesting to go to.
    What to do for fun

    There are many campus activities. We have many plays, concerts, fun events, movie nights, and even video game days. Anything you can think of is available here.
    Food and Dining

    Every Wednesday the Student Life provides us with free food and a couple of events to enjoy while we are eating. I never miss one! Plus there is many places nearby the university that you can simply walk to.

    I do not live in a dorm.
    Academic Rigor

    The teachers here are excellent. They expect you to know what you are doing and have your assignments turned in on time. Accuracy and understanding is important to them and they expect you to think likewise.

    It is said its Haunted since it was one of the Historic locations in Brownsville. I have yet to experience something paranormal.

    Theres always events going on. The clubs always have events by Student Union. Sometimes you get free items or food.

    One of its few strengths, the campus counts with high-alert security with a real police campus inside, just over the water fountain. The emergency calls are effective, the guards are always there patrolling, and they impose the 'No Smoking' laws on campus. Sadly, they could have bigger, juicier, and better checks than with this one.

    Only three sororities and one fraternity. See? What did I told you?

    Horrible lack of activities. Instead of being an open-minded campus, they only have like twelve important clubs, instead of 150 that, say, St. Louis has. What a waste of time and money at this University.

    If what you ask is if it is cheap, then yes. After two years, these prices will go up, though. They will bang for the buck by then.

    Greek life, soccer, community service...not that much, if you ask me. Fun is strictly limited.

    Like I said, they have branded restaurants, like Chick-fil-A or Starbucks. But hey, to each his/her own, right?

    Never been to a dorm, but how do you think it is? They cannot afford more classes, expansion or teachers. How do you expect them to build a better dome? Impossible!

    Just like any other school, they DO make you sink or swim on your own. How challenging is that? It is not! They just do their job.

    1. Plan to transfer (since the lack of degrees may frustrate you). 2. Be from there and plan to save money. 3. Whatever you do, never be proud of this school. Anyone could do better than that.

    Although this is the most recognizable university in the valley of 'Texas, it is also the only existent one. With trees and nature colliding with old architecture, it makes the viewer wonder why it is not as classy as it could be. Although the security and food are not too bad at all (since they are bought), the lack of higher degrees, the boring stillness of it, and the lack of sports and real talent, together with an exhausting lack of management in the Arts, University of Texas at Brownsville is for only those who want a low type of life...or for those who want to take their basics at a cheaper price, then transfer to a higher school.

    The university is built on the grounds of what was once Fort Brown. The campus still has some original buildings of the fort. It is said that at night you may hear horse hooves and steps in the near the old buildings.

    Shopping downtown Brownsville has great opportunities to buy more for less.

    Brownsville has many opportunities for shopping, dining, and local night life. The university is located next to the Mexico border and South Padre Island.

    The close to many local restaurants. The campus has a Starbucks, a Chic fi la, and a campus deli.

    Always ask questions more than likely others have the same question but are to shy to ask. Get to know your professor. Create a strong network of friends to help you throughout college.

    UTB is always hosting events. Just keep vigilant and attend the events and you'll meet some great people. I suggest joining clubs, it'll help you make more friends and stay involved.

    Research the school well and if you are not comfortable with what you find, use your judgment and follow your heart.

    I wish our school administration was more helpful to us because I have been given wrong advice that has affected my class schedules and when I have asked for help in main office, people seem to give us a cold shoulder.

    People stay to themselves for the most part, the worst thing maybe is breaking into people's cars, (crimes of opportunity) it doesn't happen too often really.

    A relatively moderate amount of club activity, it's mostly people getting together to try to do something with a group of people and get creative with their time.

    This university would be great for aerospace engineers and astrophysicists because of the radio telescope on campus; also for business majors, there's plenty of developing business sites in the city where you'd be able to test your skills against the world.

    The campus was built on an old fort, so there is a ghost hunting club, and a local philosophy group discussing politics and activism. Also there is a hip hop scene moving through out the city here, where almost every week there are freestyle cyphers at the parks on stages.

    The tuition is very low and the quality of education actually isn't too bad, the university is trying to make it into an all PhD professor campus.

    It's a relatively small town, so you can go to the outlets 1 hour away or you can shop in town, which is growing slowly but surely; however for the most part, you're going need a bit of imagination.

    There are allot of Mexican restaurants close by, so if you're craving tacos, you only needs to drive a mile into town and you have hit the pot luck of Mexican food.

    Breakfast Tacos are sold by the cafe by the new library in the mornings. There is a Starbucks sells coffee and stuff, duh. There is a Chick-fil-a also on campus.

    UTB bought a set of apartments last year which were turned into dorms. My friends that live on campus tell me it is a 5 bedroom layout each room has their own bathroom, Large kitchen, pool. There are curfews i think. Security is very tight in the dorms. just 5-10 away from campus. There are also the old dorms which are inside the campus. They are spooky, it is very scary to be on campus at night. The Campus is haunted if you did not know.

    Some classes can be tough, but more than 80% of the time professors help students by making the curriculum easier to understand.

    There is no need to get your classes hours apart. Buildings are close to each other. There are many different cultures in campus, but mainly it is the Hispanic Heritage that engulfs the campus.

    Yes, students would be curious as to how and why these practices take place. Also, we get to have three mini carnivals, two circuses, and quite a few parades in town. Parades are around mid February and the other parade in December.

    An unusual tradition on campus is that we have an instructor who dedicates himself to the study of witchcraft or what you call, brujeria, and then explains the rituals of what to expect.     There is a mall in Brownsville, as well as bowling alley. Brownsville also has a huge Sports Park. Where you can join leagues in almost all the major sports.

    We may have few limited sources to celebrate and party, but things turn out really nice. For example, we have a concert hall and the concerts are great. We have parties near our Student Union building like 1 time each two weeks or so.

    We have this post all over campus where you click a button to ask for help, also there are always campus security driving all around the school, I always feel safe even in the morning when is very dark and since I walk it could be dangerous but I have no fear with the security close.

    We have a very short greek life but is there. I always seen it as a great life because they help each other, volunteer have ome parties, etc. Never are rude and they are always very nice. I do not belong to any greek club.

    On campus there are a lot of activities, we have one called orange crush there is everything there, a lot of food also, there is a day when we have a cinema that we can go see in our cars, also the many different sports played there are always playing against other school and there is nothing better to get in spirit the to go support them.

    Since the University is near the bridge that crosses to Mexico the security guards are always around and will even escort you to your vehicle if you feel unsafe through out the day.

    I do not recommend the Greek life there if the students don't have a lot of money or if they do not like to volunteer.

    The University is known as a haunted place. It is one of the most haunted places in Brownsville, and creepy things have happened at night.

    UTB and TSC offers many events throughout the semester to keep the students entertained and interested. Through these events the school educates students in many ways like health, internships, job opportunities, study abroad, etc. Student services are usually the ones making events.
    Tips for prospective students

    Do not get over confident because you know a subject well. Do not avoid reading the course books because you will need to know them. Do not skip classes because it is hard to make them up.

    If you have trouble with financial aid, go talk to the financial aid staff. They are amazing and can help you find ways to pay for college. They are very informative and helpful. In addition, always go to an advisor before registering for classes to make sure that you are registering for the correct classes.

    I have never been to the dorms but most are very pretty and some are ugly. You'll only get the nice ones if qualify.

    The best tip I can give you is to stay on top of all deadlines. Even when you do meet the deadlines, call and follow up or check online to make sure your paperwork/forms have been received. With most of the process being online, it is fairly easy, but can be time consuming. Stay on top of it all.

    During your free time you can work out at the REK or participate in the intramural sports they host. Additionally, you can go to the baseball games, or participate in student life activities such as Orange Crush and Job Fair.

    There are some restaurants within walking distance of UTB. These include Burger King, McDonalds, Churchs, Nolita NY Pizza, and Subway. If you have a car, then you can go to the mall to have dessert at Red Mango or eat at Texas Roadhouse, Lin's or Luby's.

    I am very content with the dorm life! The dorms are brand new, very spacious, and nice! In addition, the staff that work at the dorms are truly helpful and approachable.

    Indeed, there is a lot of campus security. When I used to have classes at night there would alaways be a security guard walking and checking everything that would be okay. So that really made me feel safe and nothing ahs ever happen to me.

    What I do for fun at campus, is that I go to the game room. I either paly ther with my friends or go to an event that it is being held at campus.

    Indeed food is available all over our campus. We have cafeterias and restaurants that are close to the campus. So if we get hungry we either walk to a restaurant or go to the cafeteria at campus.

    I am not part of the dorm life, but I have been told that it is safe and ver comfortable.

    In a fact college is not easy, you have to work hard to ear your grades, so therefore I recommend to students to not take it for granted, if they need to study, you got to study. Don't study at the exact moment.

    I will recommend those students to study hard and they will meet their goals, I would also encourage them to be part of a club or organization so that they can experience group decisions and making new friends.

    The University of Texas at Brownsville is close to my house and easy location to be at. It also has one of the best nursing programs there is in the valley. And most of all the security, there is always a guard walking and checking everything.
