Categories Comments Great for these types of students This University offers an excellent incentive for all students, of any state or country. As a Georgian, non-Texas resident, I was worried about the cost of tuition for an out of state acceptee. Yet, through a school program called Academic Excellence Scholarship Program, I was granted in-state tuition and an additional $1000 per semester for tuition. Plus my financial aid package has been incredible, and I received only a small amount of loan funds, and plenty of refund cash. Plus, I received only the most basic scholarship there is, but I have the opportunity to upgrade it to a full ride including room and board by maintaining a 3.75 GPA. The highest scholarship a freshman applicant can receive grants full tuition, room and board, plus a $5000 stipend for personal expenses!!! I encourage all to apply, and to check out the website at utdallas.edu. Look for something called assured admission, which guarantees your acceptance. DO NOT WORRY if you do not automatically get an AES scholarship because you can apply for one after your first term of enrollment.
Tips for prospective students Maintain the Best GPA you can. Try to make a 1200 combined SAT or 26 ACT score. The University looks for the well-rounded, so respond in your application accordingly. UTD is Great for Pre-Med and Pre-Law prospectives!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students For those people who feel like they're average or don't have any particular talents, you should come here to discover yourself and the truth of the where you belong. It is also great for those who express particular interest in any form of engineering, computer science, or arts. There are various fields of studies pertaining to those three, and many that combine two or more. Whether it is an interest in design, games, radio, television, photography, or some sort of mixed media, UTD is the best school for you! The possibilities are endless.
Tips for prospective students If you have a composite score of 1200 on your SAT, you're in great standing. If you break 2000, you'll most likely earn a scholarship of some sort. It's also best if you have a B average because even though this school is fun, it's tough academically. If you don't have any studying skills, you better learn quickly. Actually, most of the classes will force you to change your ways or discover new methods. Also, learn to be social. UTD is all about interaction with others and building your network. Plus it’ll just help you overall in the long run.
Bang for the buck To add to all the fun events and organizations, it's a relief to know that everything is free! Some events may ask for donations, but you're under no obligation. You can play pool or ping-pong anytime you want or even go workout at the gym and play a pickup game of basketball or racquetball. But the best part is the free food and free shirts given at a lot of the events! About 85% of the events offer free food, and more than half give out T-shirts. You'll never have to go shopping for food or clothes again! Most importantly though, you're getting a grade ‘A’ quality education (Fun Fact: UTD is one of the best public schools in Texas, providing a private school quality education). Once you step foot on campus, you're guaranteed to leave a new person.
Am enjoying being here Best. Place. Ever. I've never been to a place that's more communal. Nobody would feel left out here because everyone on campus makes you feel like you belong there. People smile as you pass and wave, even if you don't know them. You meet people and make friends at every event you attend on campus. And to know that there are so many events on campus is wonderful in itself. There are about 3 campus-wide events a week on average, but there are quite a few weeks where there are multiple events every day! There's an endless amount of clubs and organizations to join as well. Many are general, but there are more that will surprise you of their existence, such as the Onomatopoeia club, which does random things like have pillow fights in the middle of campus.
Am learning a lot Before I came, here I wasn't sure what to expect. In all honesty, I thought I'd only be learning things pertinent to my major. But it turns out that the prerequisite learning itself opens up opportunities in other fields. Although I am on the track to become a game designer, I have learned the art of being a 2D designer, web designer, and program developer using Java. Even my core classes offer new paths that I can explore.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for people that want a good education without having to take out tons of loans. This school is gaining a lot of recognition, so if you want to help be part of that, come to school here.
Tips for prospective students If you don't want to stay in your dorm or apartment alone, go out to events held on campus. You may meet some amazing people. When it comes to the scholarship upgrade, try to get a 4.0 your first semester. After all, this is a competitive school and scholarship upgrade funds tend to run out quickly.
Bang for the buck This place is really worth every penny you pay for tuition. There are tons of scholarships for students available, and if you don't get any, don't worry. The financial aid office is very generous and will try to help you cover it. If you still have problems with financial aid, you can still get a scholarship upgrade if you get at least a 3.75 GPA with 90 hours or fewer.
Am enjoying being here You can decide what you want to do here. There are so many ways to get involved on campus, it is really worth trying at least one out. There are clubs, respectable team sports (like soccer and basketball), intramural sports, and great Greek life, just to name a few things. It's hard to stay in just one organization as soon as you join one, so be prepared to have fun and be a little busy as soon as you do. Also, a lot of the buildings are nice, and the old ones are getting a well-deserved face-lift. In the meantime, there are some construction areas, but I really don't mind them. The housing here is amazing. As a freshman, you get to decide whether you stay in a dorm or an apartment. The dorms are new and really nice, and the apartments are well-kept and clean. They're a little older, but the oldest ones are probably from the early 2000's, which isn't bad at all. After the first year, you can live in an apartment. People here aren't too bad, though sometimes some of them may lack social skills. Just smile, and they'll smile back.
Am learning a lot The professors here are incredible. They are willing to help you one-hundred percent and enjoy questions. They are extremely knowledgeable and tend to find the most helpful assistants available.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for everyone, no matter where you are from. There are students from all around the world here at UTD, and it is always amazing to find out where each one is from. This school has a wonderful program for each major that it offers, so all majors offer a wonderful education experience.
Tips for prospective students Keep your GPA as high as possible. You are not expected to have a perfect 4.0, so don't stress about it, but just work hard to keep it up. Your SAT scores don't have to be that amazing either, as long as it is close to 1200 or above you are all set to go. You do not have to go to a school with very high requirements to get a good education.
Bang for the buck There are a lot of scholarships that UTD offers, and the financial aid offices does their best to find all the money you need to attend, even it that is student loans. But because of the numerous amounts of scholarships most people hardly have to get loans or pay anything at all. There are apartments on campus if you do not wish to live in this resident hall, and the apartments allow you to have pets.
Am enjoying being here UTD has a wonderful community with thousands of clubs, fitness center, workout activities, and a lot of other activities that go on around campus everyday of the week. You will never get bored being here. Not to mention the game area in the student, the restaurant area with a subway and chick-fil-a, the pub, and the regular dinning hall. This school provides everything for you. I don't think I couldn't be happier at any other college. There are apartments on campus and a resident hall, both are absolutely pretty inside. The apartments are really cheap and allows you to have pets. The resident hall is separated by your major so you are near people that are in the same major as you, if you did not request certain roommates.
Am learning a lot This is my first year at UTD and I am learning so much more than I ever did in High School. The teachers are wonderful and are always willing to work with you on any problem. The are numerous tutor programs that are usually free to help you whenever on whatever.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Socially, I don't think it's hard for people to find their niche at UTD. Academically, UTD is perfect for anyone planning on majoring in business, computer science or engineering. The Arts and Technology program is also really great.
Tips for prospective students UTD is a pretty quirky and nerdy school, and while that doesn't appeal to some people, I really think it grows on most people once they get here. There are some people who hole up in their rooms and don't get out, but there are still plenty of outgoing, interesting people so it's important to go to events and join a club or organization. I joined the newspaper and got to interview Donald Glover for my very first story, which I'm certain that that kind of opportunity would be more difficult to come by at a larger school. I also can't stress enough how important it is to sign up for Comet Camp which is held for freshman a few days before classes start. Some people will worn you that it's stupid and corny (and parts of it are) but I met so many of my current friends at camp and it really is fun.
Bang for the buck Housing at UTD is the best that you'll see anywhere and the apartments are a good price. The school is also very generous with scholarships and financial aid. I definitely feel that I've gotten my money's worth with what I've learned and experienced. The only downside is the meal plans that all freshman living on campus are required to have. The dining hall is terrible on the weekends and closes at 7pm on Saturday and Sundays. Thankfully after freshman year, when you're required to move from the residence hall to the apartments, you'll have a full kitchen and will no longer need the meal plan.
Am enjoying being here While UTD is a relatively small school, there are still plenty of events to go to during the week, most of which involve free food or giveaways. The Pub which is a casual restaurant on campus, hosts so many things like poetry nights (which are always awesome) and many comedians have come to perform during the Comedy Series. Donald Glover from Community even performed at UTD this year. Weekends however are another story. There are little to no events on campus on weekends so there won't be much besides hanging out with friends and the sort.
Am learning a lot I've had every type of professor so far at UTD, ranging from the ones who are exciting and passionate to those who were so excruciatingly boring I thought I'd die. But every one of them was available if I had a question and most of my emails are answered pretty quickly. You will learn a lot here and classes can be difficult, but there are many resources available such as the GEMS Center which has a math and writing lab.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck This school is not as expensive as many other schools, to be honest its not expensive at all and I live on campus!!! This school gives out soo many scholarships a year, hence money is no excuse for not coming here especially for upcoming freshman. Let me tell you now, there are a few scholarships only freshman and first year transfers are eligible for that I wish I would have known about and the best part is that most scholarships are for all 4 years as long as you keep your GPA up and you can even upgrade them for more cash!! How awesome is that!! UTD is the place to be if you like a bit of challenge, have passion for your major (but we also have an undeclared section), love fun festivals, and can rock orange and green!!
Am enjoying being here I love it here!! The events, teachers, and mascot!!

Tips for prospective students Visit! You will fall in love!
Bang for the buck UTD is the most expensive 4-year university of the state of Texas. Judging from my visits to other colleges such as UT Austin, Texas Southern, Prairie View, and the University of Houston, the money is well worth it.
Am enjoying being here In high school, I was always told my college professors would show students no mercy. I was led to believe that they would be disrespectful, the least bit compassionate, and that they would not tolerate much. UT Dallas showed me that perceptions were wrong and maybe my teachers had just been saying these things to scare us before we actually experienced college for ourselves. This environment is shaping my personality and lifestyle, helping me to see the importance of education and social relationships. I honestly believe the school would be so much more appealing with a football team, which is my reason for giving this category 4 stars instead of 5. There would be much more school spirit. I never hear about conflict or trouble on campus, which is probably what I like the most. I like feeling safe when I walk by myself in both the daytime and night.
Am learning a lot My professors are very intellectual. I can say that I have never been able to ask a question and get one of those I'm not sure, I'll have to look into that type of answers. Anytime I don't understand something, I don't have to hesitate to ask which is something I was not used to in high school. No one wants to fail. And anyone who agrees will say that studying, whether you want to or not, is a vital part of college. I was told that the professors would not take much interest in our scores but I found out how the college professor stereotype is not always true.

Bang for the buck although it might be a little pricey, there are many scholarships to apply for.
Will enjoy being here from everyone I have talked to, they only have positive things to say about the campus and the dorm life.
Will learn a lot It seems to be a very large campus so there is a large amount of activities to do, and there is a lot of things to learn

Categories Comments Campus Safety Honestly at night this campus is SHADY. Not really anything to do with the school, but just the lack of people out and about around dinner time (since most people are commuters) and later makes it spooky. All the buildings are left unlocked, and the lights are only moderately bright. There are police everywhere during the day, and I do see the cars at night, but they should have some officers stationed out during the night instead of aimlessly staring at pedestrian traffic at 10 am. There have been a few rapes reported on campus in the last couple of years.
Greek Life I saw some fliers, but I really have no perspective on that. The girls I talked to from some of the sororities seem very nice and welcoming.
Clubs and Activities A lot of clubs are inactive, and most don't meet a lot because its an inconvenience for a lot of the off campus folk. LLC for Freshman would probably be a better thing to get involved in if you want to live on campus. I wish I did!
Great for these types of students People who like to have fun but also like some time to themselves. People who understand the importance of schoolwork - you ARE paying to go to school, so that should be priority. Nerdy kids will love this campus. We had a mini convention where the voice of Korra came out and did a panel. Our Spirit Rock was Doctor Who themed for most of the semester. Video Games and Board Games are pretty big here. Someone is always playing gamecube in the lounge. If you're interested in computer animation, this is a GREAT time to come in. Our program is evolving and our alumni are getting better and better.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Spirit Rock - basically a bunch of large rocks we spray paint over to advertise events or culture on campus. Changes a lot more often than you think it would!
Bang for the buck I feel like I get my money's worth out of this school. UTD is whatever you make of it. It's an opportunity school. No one is going to make you go to events or plan things out for you. I feel like I've gotten a lot of opportunity, especially as a computer animation major now that we're building a new lab building.
What to do for fun Club activities, mostly. Find a club and get involved. Volunteering is a great way to expand your social circle and meet people with different majors. There are a lot of free lectures by professionals offered each month so check the website.
Food and Dining Not a lot of options, the fast food places close early for dinner and the pub has a limited menu selection (and also seems to keep weird hours). UTD is mostly a commuter college, so that may account for the shakiness of things. Dining Hall food is usually pretty good, although you soon find yourself going to the same station over and over again and it gets tedious.
Dorm Life The dorms here are astonishingly good. Everyone gets THEIR OWN ROOM, and the buildings are fairly new (in the case of West, brand new). Everyone gets their own sink, the water heats up really fast and the furniture is alright. That alone gets it 4 stars. Really impressive compared to other campus dorms. Buses run between the Greyhound Station and Walmart and it is free for students, so if you don't have a car you aren't as stranded as I expected you would be. The only downside is that in the non LLC dorms things tend to get a little cliquey and there isn't a big sense of community since the building activities offered aren't really attractive to everyone or just aren't up to standard with other big dorm life schools (they're working on it). Also, UTD DOES NOT OWN THE DORMS. Some of their policies are a little ridiculous (last year someone slashed the chairs on the 2nd level and EVERYONE had to pay) and the school can do NOTHING about it so make sure you read up on the handbook.
Academic Rigor I have yet to have a class that was a waste of my time. I'm an art major, so I can't vouch for the hard science or maths (which I heard are much more difficult), but even the blow off classes here have challenged me and forced me to learn something new. Of course There are a few sour apples in the bunch, but as long as you talk to people and check review sites you should be ok.
Tips for prospective students Knock up your SAT scores! utd automatically applies you for scholarships when you apply (no other forms) and they are very generous. Definitely walk around campus on your own (not with the tour) and just listen to people and ask questions and you'll get the vibe of the school down pretty well.
In three sentences Unique atmosphere- way more ethnic minorities and international students than what you would experience at any other school in the metroplex or college station. Openly nerdy campus with a ton of interesting people. A newer campus with constantly evolving programs and opportunities.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTD is a very good school. A lot of students are great for UTD, they just have to find their niche then they will like the school. Get involved in campus in order to get the most out of your college experience. Don't worry about not fitting in.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and talk to students, professors, and advisors to get a feel of the school. Join organizations and get involved in campus because this really helps you enjoy your college years. Try new things. Use the course evaluations on course look up and ratemyprofessor.com when trying to figure out which professors to take. Also, because the campus is not so big, you have a lot of opportunities to get involved in undergraduate research.
Bang for the buck You definitely get the bang for the buck at UTD. What you learn here is definitely worth the price you pay for it. Besides that, the school is also very generous with their financial aid packages. They give full-tuition plus a stipend to incoming freshmen based on their GPA and ACT/SAT scores. If your test scores are high, but your GPA is not so good, they have a scholarship for you too. In addition to these scholarships, the school also has many other scholarships that they give to the students. Your financial aid advisor will really help you if you are worried about your package, but just don't go at the beginning of the year when a lot of people are going to ask questions about theirs too.
Am enjoying being here The campus is very beautiful. There was a lot of construction last year, but now that it's getting finished the new buildings and revamped spots on campus make the campus feel homey and peaceful. I enjoy going to the fountains and sitting there to relax when I am stressed out. There are also a lot of common areas where you can study with your friends and other students. Besides the beautiful campus, the students here are very friendly and approachable. Sometimes I find myself getting into conversations with strangers, whom I later become really good friends with. There are also many organizations to get involved in on campus. These organizations will help you make a lot of good friends, keep you busy, provide you with plenty of opportunities to get service hours, and help you to enjoy your college experience. If you don't find a particular organization that you really like, you are given the opportunity to create a new organization. There are a plethora of events that you can attend on campus. Attending these events is fun and plus you get a lot freebies like shirts, food, and drawings to win prizes like computers, i pods, movie tickets etc.
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot at UTD. The professors are very knowledgeable in the topics they cover in class and are very willing to help you if you are struggling. Take advantage of the professor's office hours. In class, the professors teach the lessons, but they also teach you how it applies to the world or how it is used in the world, so you don't feel like what you are learning in class is pointless.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that dont prefer big schools with many students. UTD is a fairly small school which means smaller number of students per class! UTD sadly does not have a football team, so if you are a huge fan of football ..I'm sorry. Great for students that want a safe and no party school! great for engineering majors and business majors!
Tips for prospective students I would definitely encourage applying to UTD its a great school especially for Engineering Majors! One of the nice programs UTD offers is the fast track program! this program lets you get your masters/ MBA with your undergraduate degree in 5 years! which is great because it saves time and money! All you need to do is to maintain a 3.5 GPA and have half of the master's credits finished during your undergrad and have a year of work experience after your undergrad! I am looking into this program and I made plans with the advisers who are really great by the way. They are very helpful and they are available pretty much all the time!
Bang for the buck UTD gives out pretty good scholarships for almost all students. If you are a freshmen you are automatically considered for academic scholarships! There's many more scholarships they offer through out the year and you can check these on their website! I myself have received $2,000 but since I've been working on my GPA I'm hoping to get more! And not only me, most of my friends have received really nice scholarships and a few even got full ride! But otherwise, the classes are really worth the pay. Especially when I know that there's so many opportunities lying ahead with all the companies always coming to recruit students!!!
Am enjoying being here UTD might not be known for it parties but it does have a good crowd of people that meet in the student union where there's several pool tables and table tennis and other activities!!! Before attending here I've never played pool before but I gave it try and some of friendly students there taught me how to play, now even during summer I have to make a visit once in a while to play! There's many chapters/clubs for everyone and all interests and students are encouraged to make their own clubs if what they want is not already there! I myself joined Women Engineering society, IEEE, HSA and a few others! It's really fun in the beginning of the semester especially when they are constantly giving out free shirts!!!
Am learning a lot UTD is known for its school of Engineering, I am an Electrical Engineering major! I just finished my freshmen year and I've really learned so much in the past 2 semesters. I've never been as excited to go back to school but here I am waiting for the fall semesters. The professors for the school of engineer are great and they have years of experience but the Math department is not so great. Sometimes it's hard to understand what they are saying but its definitely not bad.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students for those of you who are more down to earth and would rather be in a more interactive place than some of the other big name schools in texas, utd is the perfect place for you. the class sizes are comparably a lot smaller than in the big universities, so it gives the student better access to interact with the professors; in fact, professor-student interaction is routinely emphasized.
Tips for prospective students maintain a good gpa in high school, but don't forgo your extracurricular activities; this school is looking for well rounded people
Bang for the buck oh most definitely! the tuition per year here is only about ten to eleven thousand dollars a year, and compared with many other universities across texas, this is definitely a bargain you cant miss out on. utd has pioneered groundbreaking research in engineering and its nanotechnology department, ranked among the top in the state, collaborates with the likes of princeton university.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere here is so relaxing and laid back. Most people you meet here are out to have a good time. In between classes and in your free time, there are so many opportunities to just hang out and chill.
Academic Rigor the curriculum for many introductory classes is fast-paced and challenging, and sometimes difficult to adjust to at first, yet when enrolled in upper level courses, the student will realize the importance of the knowledge gained in those intro courses.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Although this school is great for everyone, it is exceptionally well for engineers.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you keep your GPA up and also always be determined.
Bang for the buck As long as you put in the time the money is definitely worth it. As one of my Professors said at the beginning of the semester, You've paid for this education, its how much you value the money you put in that will determine how you do.
Am enjoying being here Transferring to a new college my junior year made me a little nervous. However at UTD people don't make you feel like an outsider they make your feel really comfortable and now only after a semester I feel as if this is where I started off my college experience.
Am learning a lot I have lot due to the professors not teaching the traditional way. I have professors that teach though games and videos, which has helped me a lot.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UT-Dallas is located in Richardson which is one of the nicer parts of the Dallas area. The campus security does an outstanding job patrolling the campus 24 hours a day and there are call kiosks all around campus for someone that feels threatened or would like an escort back their dorm. The school also provides lockers around campus and in the fitness center so you do not have to worry about someone stealing your wallet while you workout.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students looking for the best education that can be afforded to them. It is also great for students that love a diverse environment, being that UT-Dallas has a large student body from overseas (Japan, China, India, Pakistan).
Bang for the buck While UT-Dallas is one of the more expensive public universities in Texas, the education received here is outstanding. The job opportunities that will open up for a graduate are endless. A degree from UT-Dallas is very well respected across the nation.
What to do for fun There is constantly events taking place in The Square (The central location of the campus) that are put on by various Greek organizations or interest groups, such as biking for a cause or informing people on the recent election. My personal favorite on campus is the fitness center, which has four basketball courts, racquetball and squash courts, a swimming pool, and an extremely well outfitted gym. The school also puts on events such as a rave for Halloween and concerts in the Pub (an a cappella group did an amazing show this semester).
Food and Dining The cafeteria is like all those at most colleges, providing a wide variety of food that varies day to day. In the student union, there is a Subway, Chick-fil-a, and pizza joint that are great for quick meal between classes. The student union also houses The Pub which is more of a restaurant where students can order burgers and things of like, while in a ambient environment.
Dorm Life The dormitories were recently constructed and in great condition. Unlike the stereotype surrounding dorm life, UT-Dallas' dorms are quiet and allow you to have your study time without being disrupted. The only downside is some of the dorms are a 10 minute walk from classrooms, yet this should not be a deciding factor.
Academic Rigor This is my fourth university to attend, and the workload is much higher than previous colleges. Although this seems like a tougher route, it has excelled my education greatly. My knowledge in subjects that I assumed I knew a great deal in has increased tenfold through projects, research, and lectures.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to apply yourself out of the classroom on a much higher level than most high school students are. Although the course content may appear advanced, the instructors will explain it thoroughly during class. This stated, attend all classes you can possibly make and fully apply yourself to studying outside the classroom everyday.
In three sentences UT-Dallas is a school that lives up to its expectations and national rankings. The business program, which I am enrolled in, is exceptionally challenging, yet rewarding. The business students here are committed to their education and the professors are well versed in their subjects and convey their subject during class on a high, well stated level.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have our very own section of the local police department dedicated to on campus safety. They patrol campus during the day and night, you can't walk around campus without seeing them, which makes me feel very safe, even walking around in the middle of the night.
Greek Life Our greek life is a little different from other schools because they don't live together--we don't have greek housing. But, the fraternities and sororities are still very involved on campus and are probably some of the most involved clubs you could be a part of.
Clubs and Activities We have a huge variety of clubs and club sports here on campus. I am in 4 myself, including 2 pre-health organizations, a triathlon club, and the neuroscience student association, which are just a small sample of all of the clubs available.
Great for these types of students UT Dallas is not a slacker college--most of the people I know here care about their grades and where they are going in life. We have fun, but we recognize that the reason we are here is for academics.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have the nerdiest mascot around--a comet. And not only is it a comet, but his name is Temoc (comet spelled backwards). To go with this, we have a gesture called the whoosh which has to be seen to be understood, but it's a great tradition.
Bang for the buck If you are out of state then it can be a little pricey, but half the students here on campus have amazing scholarships through the Academic Excellence Scholarships program. Just apply and odds are you will get some kind of financial help, seperate from financial aid.
What to do for fun There is always something happening on campus, or you can explore Richardson, a smaller college-town. Or if you're adventurous, you can take the DART into downtown Dallas and go explore the big city.
Food and Dining The food here on campus (I am told by upperclassmen) has gotten really good within the last couple years. It wasn't very good before, but ever since I've been here it has been good. The dining hall has a good variety that changes every day.
Dorm Life The dorms here are brand new (all less than 3 years old I think) and are in suite style living which means that you share a dorm with 2 other students but you each have your own room within the suite. You share the living room, bathroom, and shower with your roommates but you even all have your own sink!
Academic Rigor Our science classes are notoriously challenging, but you learn so much that it makes it worth it in the end. Professors hold a lot of office hours and even though TA's don't teach classes, they hold office hours as well to help you with homework and questions about material.
Tips for prospective students If you have the option, visit college campuses---getting the feel of campus can tell you so much about how you'll like a certain college or area.
In three sentences A growing university that is not given as much credit as it should get. Great campus and professors who care about their students. The opputunities are growing here everyday--it's a great time to be here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There hasn't been anything big from the two semesters I've been there.
Greek Life About 14 different chapters, it's a growing college. If you wanted a specific chapter, you can try to start it without too much problems.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities happening throughout the weeks.
Great for these types of students It has a great business school.
Bang for the buck I feel as if I can get more for my bucks; a little too expensive for it's academic level.
What to do for fun Join a fraternity or sorority, be involved in school.
Food and Dining Food and dining selection is not bad at all.
Dorm Life I do not live on campus so I can not say.
Tips for prospective students Study hard.
In three sentences It's too expensive for a school it's size. Academically, they aren't that bad. I only decided to go here based on the location from my house.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is great, there are safety stations (poles with buttons) that you can press every 300ft to alert for any suspicious activity or emergency, and can get a free escort by police from any point to any point on campus after dark until 2 am.
Greek Life There are fraternities and sororities, but no greek houses, everyone still lives in apartments. relatively cheap to join (~ 500/semester).
Clubs and Activities Many student organizations exist, and it only takes 4 people with a common interest to start a new club within one semester.
Great for these types of students gamers, nerds (aka really smart), politically active.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Cecil Green - there is a bronze statue of Cecil Green's head outside of the library, and you rub his head for good luck before exams. The Spirit Rocks - 3 giant boulders on which anyone / any organization can spray-paint an appropriate message or advertisement for events.
Bang for the buck The tuition and fees are approximately equal to other colleges, but the academic value of the instruction received is excellent.
What to do for fun Many on campus arts performances and movie showings. Public transit to downtown (~1 hr) for full experience of Dallas. Discount movie theater 4 blocks away.
Food and Dining Acceptable dining hall, required for all on campus freshmen. Comet Cafe area with subway, papa john's, chick-fil-a, and salad and sushi bar. Good selection but higher than average prices.
Dorm Life Freshmen live in apartment style dorms, 3 bedrooms per apartment, with common areas, that are completely furnished. All non freshmen live in 2 or 4 bedroom apartments, not a dorm, which are not furnished, but have built in closets and desks. Due to the nature of many students, LAN parties are more common than generally social gatherings, so joining clubs/organizations is the main way to get involved.
Academic Rigor Generally rigorous grading criteria, but exceptional preparation for said grading.
In three sentences Wonderful Academic Programs for Math, Sciences, and Digital arts.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UTD is a very safe campus. Walking back from a class at night is like walking in the daylight - no need to worry about walking by yourself. In case of an emergency, there are many poles throughout campus that allows students to push the button for help.
Food and Dining They have great food in the Dining Hall for those who have a meal plan, yet they offer more convenient alternatives (fast food places like Chick-fil-A, Subway, Papa John's, etc.).
Dorm Life They have nice dorms and apartments. Though I have never lived in one so far, I have seen the insides of both types of housing - they are all that you would need as a college student. There are three people per dorm with each student having their own private rooms that lock. They have their individual sinks and share a shower, toilet, couch, and a common living area for a TV, microwave, mini fridge.
Academic Rigor UTD has very talented, determined students and challenging academic courses to go along with them. It drives students to give extra effort into what they are learning and really mold them into a well-rounded student.
In three sentences I love UTD! This school is a small, tight-knit community with diverse backgrounds that keeps college life interesting. Once in, you are most likely to stay!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Own Campus police that are in a tighter area for a University, but really helps having them enclosed like that.
Clubs and Activities Fun Stuff.
Great for these types of students Business, Engineering Students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus none.
Bang for the buck Maybe its just me coming from a community college where it was $100 a course, but $2,000 for three hours is a little intense.
What to do for fun Top Golf in Allen, or there is even a driving range right down the road that is awesome. Also running around the campus, with its scenery is real nice.
Food and Dining There are awesome rester aunts very close by, and the cafeteria is great !!
Dorm Life I do not attend a dorm and live off campus.
Academic Rigor Of course it is a distinguished university so it is going to be top of the line.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the Advisors and on campus support system.
In three sentences The Campus all around is very beautiful. The Advisors know what they are talking about. The University is Awesome but expensive.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Cops parol constantly. This can go both ways, however, especially if you plan on throwing parties, but this is definitely a safe campus.
Greek Life Greek life is nothing like at other colleges. There are fraternities and sororities, but they are not wild and crazy, with insane hazing rules, etc. Each group has their own stereotype but as you meet people from each one, you realize that everyone is really just cool in general.
Clubs and Activities There are all sorts of sports clubs, and if there isn't one, you can create it. Just over a year ago, some guys decided to get together to play rugby. It has now turned into a club sport and they have played SMU and other colleges. Talks of a women's team is also in works. There are environmental clubs, career-related clubs, any club you can think of. There is a talent organization that just began that put on light shows as well as the Circus group.
Great for these types of students Anyone who wants to take their degree seriously but also have a good time and build a great network of friends and professors around them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Student Union is a great place to be, with pool tables, board games, a TV lounge, ping pong, the Comet Cafe upstairs (Subway, Chick-fil-a, etc), and music until 2am every night. (Midnight during the summers though).
Bang for the buck Tuition is a fraction of other schools and you definitely get more than you paid for. There are so many resources, so many people, and always something to do if you're willing to seek it out.
What to do for fun Fun can be found at the SU or just walking around campus. The Activity Center has basketball courts, pools, a rock climbing wall, racquetball and equipment for just working out. There are also pools around the apartments and clubhouses. Downtown Dallas is also just 20 minutes away while the Richardson/Plano area has an abundance of places to check out as well.
Food and Dining The Dining Hall is the home of many good memories for me. WIth about 4 or 5 flat screen tv's propped up around the dining room, you can watch Saturday morning cartoons, ESPN (there is always a big group cheering on game nights), or movies. They are also planning on building a second Dining Hall near the Residence Halls (with an Activity Center attached).
Dorm Life All freshman living on campus are required to live in one of the Residence Halls (there are 3, with a 4th in the works). I lived in an apartment from the beginning, but visited the RH frequently. It is a really good atmosphere, but do not bring too much furniture.
Academic Rigor It all depends on your major. Engineering, Sciences (including Neuroscience and Psychology), and Mathematics are all difficult majors to begin with, so you'll have your work cut out for you. ATEC has easy core requirements, but you have to be dedicated to your art. Business courses range from incredibly simplistic to extremely challenging, depending on what you're looking to study.
Tips for prospective students Enjoy yourself. Construction is happening all over campus to make it really aesthetically pleasing. And it's working! Hang out on campus as much as you can, that's how you end up meeting the coolest people.
In three sentences It really isn't what you expect when you decide to attend. First impression is that it is kind of a nerdy school, but the truth is there is a group for everybody. It is so diverse that you will always find someone with the same interest as you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety If anything, thefts account for 90% of the crimes but UTD Police are usually never out of sight; you will encounter one most of the time each day at UTD. Also, the emergency alarms are scattered around campus if you ever need it. UTD is not a school that has students do terribly dangerous things like hazing. The only bad thing is that UTD is relatively empty and quiet at night, so this invites bad things to happen to students.
Greek Life Greek life is prominent at UTD and you do take note of them. They are not as rowdy and loud as Greek Life in other universities but they do hang out a lot together and study together as well. I can't say much about Greek Life, but they are involved in what they do.
Clubs and Activities Clubs and Activities have definitely grown thanks to increased enrollment. As a president of a club/organization, I definitely recommend joining a club because of the people you meet, the volunteer service, the connections you make, and the interest you have in a particular subject increases. Clubs and activities definitely help add to the experience at UTD and gives you a break from studying.
Great for these types of students Commuters Locals Engineering-oriented Computer science-oriented International Academic Bookworms
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Walking under the Lovejack with your significant other is supposed to seal an everlasting relationship. The Spirit Rock can be spray painted to voice out student expression. Rubbing Cecil Green's head will grant you good luck before an exam. The mascot, Temoc, is a flaming comet (Temoc is comet spelled backward). Chess team at UTD is excellent and competes worldwide. Doing the WHOOSH! involves putting left fist (head of the comet) next to your mouth and extending your right arm outward diagonally from your left fist (makes the tail of the comet). Our football team is undefeated (try to guess that one out).
Bang for the buck Unfortunately, UTD cost more money to go to than UT Austin but the number of scholarships UTD awards is great. The housing is somewhat reasonable and the dining plan is not too bad either in terms of value. Most of the activities done on campus such as concerts, gym use, going to school events, and renting out equipment only requires a Comet Card (student ID card) However, UTD will try to charge you every way they can though. Transcripts used to be free until March 2012 but now they are $10 each. Parking permits cost $100 a year. Comet Cards (ID cards) take $25 to replace and printing cost 6 cents a page and 25 cents for color. Books are expensive at the UTD bookstore but then again you shouldn't be getting books at the bookstore (I learned that the hard way freshman year). Overall, it is not so bad. The quality of education is pretty good compared to tuition costs and the fees cover a lot of student services at UTD.
What to do for fun You can definitely check out downtown Dallas, Arlington, Fort Worth to sight see. Reunion Tower is nice place to go to as well as the West End. Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor is fun to do during the summer. White Rock Lake and Lewisville Lake has watersports. Malls and museums are plenty in the area and watching sports is great as well!
Food and Dining The food and dining options are limited and the hours are not that great. The dining hall closes at 10 pm and the Comet Cafe closes at 8 pm. The lines are long during lunch rush, and the food gets repetitive very quickly. I definitely recommend eating outside of campus if you have the time and transportation available because Plano and Richardson have lots of places to eat.
Dorm Life Honestly, I live in Dallas at home with my parents so I cannot say much about dorm life at UTD. I just feel though that living at home is better than living in a dorm because there's no place like home. However, I can say that housing is tough to get since there just isn't enough housing for everyone. Apply early, get along with your roommates, and don't just stay in the dorms all the time. The dorms are kind of small; each person get his or her room and shares a bathroom with three other people. I believe dorm life is fun because you get to be independent and away from parents but at UTD, there isn't anything spectacular about it. I wouldn't recommend getting a dorm at UTD if you absolutely don't have to but then again, I can't really say for myself.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor is subjective; some may feel the courses are hard or easy, depending on your skill level. Personally, I just feel that every course is feasible to pass. There are rarely any courses that attempt to destroy you and demoralize you. I just feel that if you manage your time wisely, develop good study habits, and utilize resources on campus, getting an A should be no problem. Ask upperclassmen about which professor and classes to take because they've been through them and they'll help you out.
Tips for prospective students 1. Get involved early and develop the relationships that will carry you far in life. 180+ student organizations exist on campus, so you will definitely find one that matches you and others like you. 2. Commuters, get to campus before 9:30 am if you want save yourself 15 minutes of walking to class. Parking gets full quickly. 3. What you get out of college if what you put into it. UTD is no different; you can easily just go through UTD without a trace of yourself but leave something behind if possible.
In three sentences Personally, I feel that UTD is a great university because of how much growth it has undergone in the past three years. I like how the University aspires to acquire Tier One status and become a top-notch research university. Overall, I just feel that the University accommodates your individual self if you open yourself to the people and the culture on campus.

Categories Comments Greek Life It's smaller than most but is growing
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The spirit rock in the center of campus where organizations or any student can spray paint whatever they want on these rocks.
Bang for the buck It's a little hidden from other top universities, but is regarded as one of the best academic schools in Texas.
What to do for fun You have the activity center where I go to play indoor soccer every once in a while.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to stay involved on campus
In three sentences I love UT Dallas, it has great professors and faculty that make you excited to learn more. It may not be so big in school spirit, but it makes up for it's many activities to do on campus. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. 8/10

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very safe on this campus. I even feel safe walking through the parking lot after my late night classes. They also have stations where you can call the police in the parking lot. It is comforting to know they're there even though I've never needed to use them.
Greek Life I am not a member of Greek Life, so I can't comment.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs and activities for people with all kinds of interests. Even if they don't have a group you were hoping to join, you can create one yourself. It's relatively easy to start your own club.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus For our cheer we have the Commet whoosh. You put your fist to your chin and extend the other arm straight out in front of you. Then you lean back and go Whoosh! When a large group of people do it together it's pretty impressive. Engaged couples will walk under the Jack together. Also, before a test, students students will rub a mold of Cecil Green's head.
Bang for the buck UTD is very affordable. I would say it's one of the most inexpensive universities in Dallas, especially with how highly esteemed it is. It's not only inexpensive, but it's also highly esteemed for such a low tuition rate.
What to do for fun The wonderful thing about UTD is that they have many different clubs, recreational sports, theater, and other free events. They also have a gym, indoor pool, basketball courts, racquet ball courts, and other fun activities you can enjoy at anytime. The location of UTD also offers plenty of prospective activities. Being in town means that UTD is just a bus ride away from malls, bowling, billiards, and fine dining.
Food and Dining I have heard that the food as gotten much better at UTD. I do not have a meal plan, but I've heard that their new cafeteria has improved.
Dorm Life I commute to school so I am unable to comment on Dorm life.
Academic Rigor I would say that UTD is a bit more difficult than most Universities. It is a good thing though. Because it is a difficult school, prospective employers prefer UTD. UTD is highly esteemed because of the high academic rigor.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students I would encourage them to get involved at school. UTD is not the most social school, but it is easy to make friends if you try. Your experience will be more enjoyable if you have friends. Just make sure not to let your grades suffer!
In three sentences The University is amazing because it focuses on the individual student's academic enrichment. There are no scholarship grants, and there is no football team. This means that there is more money academic scholarships.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never felt insecure while on campus.
Greek Life Didn't join any.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs to join including ones that have to do with your major.
Great for these types of students If you like to be involved, this university is great.
Bang for the buck Not good nor bad. I got a scholarship so I barely paid anything to attend. For a person who didn't get one however, it is pretty expensive.
What to do for fun Since its pretty barren, there is not much to do. The main thing I did was joined a bunch of clubs so I could meet more people.
Food and Dining I got the meal plan. The food was okay; not good nor bad.
Dorm Life Dorms were fun. There were three people in my dorm and when I wasn't studying, we just hung out together playing pool or something.
Academic Rigor Wasn't that bad compared to my high school.
Tips for prospective students Get a dorm!
In three sentences This was a pretty good university. I enjoyed the dorms. The classes were alright.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Im a transfer student but from i noticed on temoc's birthday (mascot) he comes out and the whole campus has a giant celebration with a bunch of free stuff.
Bang for the buck The only thing keeping me from giving this a five star rating is student life could be a little better, usually you make your college experience here
What to do for fun the steps and Student Union. The SU has plenty of activities from playing pool to kicking back and watching tv. It a home away from home.
Food and Dining There are a verity of restaurants on campus and also a pub with awesome food!
Academic Rigor Academically speak UTD is great! its an up and coming school but the programs they have a great from political science to computer science. UTD is filled with great teachers who know their stuff and are always there to help
Tips for prospective students Prospective students will have a great time at UTD. Be sure to take a tour of the campus since it is rather big. Everyone is friendly so dont be afraid to talk to someone if you are having a tough time looking for classes.
In three sentences This school is truly great, the staff, the campus, but mostly the people who go there. I find myself spending 95% of my time on campus its as if im drawn to UTD. Greek Life Hear that it is fun, just haven't been a part of it as of now.
Clubs and Activities Not a part of any clubs right now.
Great for these types of students Transfer students and working Mom's like me. :)
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The art barn is a cool place to see great student artwork and to take art classes.
Bang for the buck Cost a lot more then community college, but well worth it.
What to do for fun Lots of neat shops around and movie's. Just walking around campus is neat and enjoyable.
Food and Dining Great food and dinning options on campus and off campus.
Dorm Life I live off campus, so I do not know about dorm life. Did speak to some students who were happy with it.
Academic Rigor Wonderful professor's who are helpful and knowledgeable.
Tips for prospective students Get your comet card early. Also, make sure to use all the student services available to you on campus. Enjoy it and don't take your time there for granted.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt unsafe at all. There are emergency contact buttons in case you need them, you probably never would.
Clubs and Activities Rock climbing and other athletics, video games, special interests, almost everything
Great for these types of students A lot of the students are in the nerdy category. It's great. What I mean by this is you can tell nerdy jokes and mostly everyone will get it. (Pokemon or video game jokes etc.)
Bang for the buck Definitely worth the tuition. The classes are great and the environment is great. Plenty of research opportunities.
What to do for fun I am on the rock climbing team. They are amazing and it's so much fun. There is a wall on campus too. There are always lots of student and university run events to participate in and plenty of free food.
Food and Dining Subway, Chic-fil-A, pizza, deli, home-cooked meals, snacks, cereal etc all available in the Cafe. There is also a cafeteria with more food options. Not open on weekends.
Dorm Life Housing staff are friendly. The apartments are cute and roomy.
Academic Rigor Some classes are really hard, and some professors are tough, but overall they try to help you out if you will try.
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing and scholarships EARLY. The university has been growing a lot and they are trying to accommodate for the massive influx of students, but it's best to be early.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus is safety at its best. The campus police are always around. There are always two police cars parked outside in the parking lot. This campus is currently small, so safety is a sure thing.
Greek Life There are currently no fraternities at the campus, however as soon as this place expands, that will most likely be the first thing on the list when it comes to what students want.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs at this campus. It is also easy to make your own club, you just need a few students and a teacher and there you go, your own personal club. These clubs offer many outlets to students who want more from their college experience.
Great for these types of students This campus is great for any type of student. The one that needs a quiet place to study, or lots of friends. This campus is very student-friendly.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus So far I am not sure about the traditions, except for spirit day on Fridays when everyone wheres green. It is kind of fun to see the same color on everyone, easy to blend into the crowd.
Bang for the buck This place is the place to be when paying for college. You are basically paying for a public university that offers private university education. I am getting my education at a steal, however it is still hard to pay when you are a student!
What to do for fun Since this is a small campus there are limited outlets, however the campus shelters plenty of computer labs, sitting areas to hang out with friends and occasionally there is a student event, such as a small concert on the campus.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is small, but the food makes up for it. You can buy it hot and steaming after you have finished a long class. Their food makes the day go by quicker.
Dorm Life There are currently no dorms on this campus, but they have plans to build some soon. I am going to miss out on the beautiful buildings they will one day build on this campus.
Academic Rigor I would give the academic rigor of this school four stars! The students and the teachers are all here for one purpose; to learn.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you sign up early so that you can have a chance of getting in other the scholarship programs they have here at the school.
In three sentences This university is incredible. The teachers are phenomenal, and most of them have Phds in their fields. The campus is beautiful, as well, since it is fairly new.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who are going to college to learn more than anything else. Also great for students who live near by and are wanting to commute to school everyday. UTD has many commuter students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One tradition this school has is rubbing the head of Cecil Green, a statue that is the namesake for Green Hall and is located there on the building, for good luck before a test.
What to do for fun The Pub on campus is a fun place to eat after dark. They're known for having musicians perform, comedians do shows, and for other sorts of events that serve as late night entertainment.
Food and Dining The dining hall food is average, much like a high school cafeteria. There's plenty of tables though, which is nice for studying between meals. The Comet Cafe on campus is great because of its variety, but much like the dining hall, the food can be a bit expensive without a meal plan and its dining dollars.
Dorm Life Living in the on-campus apartments, there isn't much participation as far as group activities or togetherness goes. Most students hang out with their own friends and don't usually get to know their neighbors. Having a bedroom to yourself is really great though.
Academic Rigor UTD concentrates on academics more than anything else. The school doesn't really focus much on sports, other than chess, and does not have a football team.
Tips for prospective students If you plan to live on campus, extend your lease through the summer at the end of spring semester because if not, you probably won't end up with an apartment the following year.
In three sentences UTD is a great school for students focused on academics. Its location is nice because it isn't far from the city but it isn't completely desolate either. There isn't a lot of campus life, most of the activity takes place elsewhere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety isn't 5 star but we do have an on campus police station and security guards walking around constantly. We also have student workers who manage parking lots and the campus to make sure everything is ok. Patrol increases at night and they are more alert. There are emergency buttons placed across campus so if there is ever a problem you are available to come and punch it. In my years, at UTD we haven't had any threatening events so I feel pretty safe on campus and if we do there are campus wide alerts along with texts sent out to all students. However, things are stolen frequently so it is up to you to keep your belongings safe when you are out. You shouldn't trust the world to not take shiny objects placed out in the open.
Greek Life Greek Life isn't the first thing you think about when you hear about UTD (University of Texas at Dallas). But there are several chapters across campus of sororities, fraternities, and co-ed fraternities. These groups help connect students with each other and allow you to transition into the college life a lot easier. You'll also be able to connect with students from other campuses near Dallas and create lifelong bonds.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students of many passions, namely science (medical, pharmaceutical, etc), engineering, business.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Spirit Rock is a small area in the middle of campus where a couple of boulders sit and students are allowed to paint on them. Announcement, proposals, and messages are written on these rocks and it's interesting to see. We also have random traditions like the rubbing of Cecil Green's head before exams for good luck.
What to do for fun As I said earlier, the campus is surrounded by plenty of plazas. There are plenty of shopping places and craft stores, so if you're big on new clothes or addicted Pinterest don't worry about a shortage of resources. There are also movie theaters, frozen yogurt shops, bowling alleys, golf, parks, and indoor amusement parks within miles. Downtown Dallas is also very close to campus, only about 20 minutes or so. There are many attractions and sites to see Downtown. There's plenty to do, you just have to be willing to find it.
Food and Dining Food is definitely expensive on campus, especially for someone on a college budget and it's probably not the best. The dining hall offers great variety of foods so if you're not a big complainer about food then you'll like it. But if you're looking for something new and fun, the campus is surrounded by restaurants and creamy goodness. College students are even allowed discounts in certain stores if you show them your ID. The campus is a matter of minutes from major highways like 635, 75, and the George Bush Turnpike.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know you want to go here, it's not the biggest campus but it is a great place for commuters and those in transition from high school. However, this doesn't mean the work is easy at all. Make sure to read, read, read in most of your classes. The biggest part of succeeding many of your classes is to stay on top of your reading and understand what you are doing. Ask questions whenever you can and don't wait till the last minute to study cause you will surely learn from that mistake the hard way. Even if you were one of those students in high school that breezed through everything without a sweat, it doesn't work in college. Just know why you're there and be motivated to do the work, be it your passion or just study groups with your friends.
In three sentences The growing campus is a great campus for those who don't want to attend community college but are not ready for a full blown college campus of thousands of student walking around everyday. The close knit community offers great opportunities to get involved and succeed in the future. The challenging course prepare me for my pharmaceutical dreams yet allow me to relax when I want.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I'm a Ph.D. student what more can I do but study for fun, along with enjoying a lot of the artistic presentations UTD offers for entertainment. Students can go to the student center and purchase movie tickets, tickets to the symphony, zoo, theme parks, and much more. There's always a variety to choose from.
Food and Dining Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Can't say enough about that!
Dorm Life Based on the increased enrollment, UTD currently has added to their growing campus by building new living facilities/dormitories that are reasonably added in with your tuition. Check it out!
Academic Rigor Academic rating of 5 stars.
Tips for prospective students If any student is wishing to attend this great institution, contact the Admissions office located in our Student Services building. You won't regret it.
In three sentences The University of Texas at Dallas, is a Tier 1 institutions that prepares me to be the very best in my said field(s). No other schools in the state of Texas can compare to the University of Texas system. How awesome is that? The University of Texas at Dallas is a research based institution with the most updated technology utilized and offered in the state of Texas.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Don't worry, you will ALWAYS be safe at UTD. There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. I have taken many night classes there and I honestly thing UTD has the best night life. You always see students out putting on a show and entertaining each other. Besides that, there are cops every step of the way. The parking lot is never pitch dark because they have good amount of lighting. There are few people always around you because of buildings being all close to each other. So you will never find yourself alone in a pitch dark area!
Greek Life Like the clubs and activities, utd also offers a wide variety of Fraternities and Sororities. They can be a bit expensive to join, but they honestly are the best of university life and hey you only live once. Not only can you enjoy from them, you are also able to get yourself more involved in school activities which always looks good on resume!
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs/activities you can join. There are clubs like the PDA (pre dental association) HOSA (for health care students) Rotaract club, MESA (middle eastern student association) and many more. And they are not hard to find either, because the flier for each are always hanging around every corner of the building.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UTD consists of a vast variety of students; students from every culture attend UTD and UTD does a great job of making them feel right at home. There is a room called the reflections room at UTD, where people can pray and attend to their religious/cultural needs. This room is by far the most relaxing and calming room.
What to do for fun Well as mentioned above, food is the most exciting part at UTD. So for fun you can always just chill with friends and enjoy a delicious meal. But for those who are weight conscious UTD has something for them as well. The activity center is a great way to have fun with friends as well as stay in shape. The activity center offers its own gym, swimming pool, basketball court, racquetball, etc. Besides the activity center, UTD also has the student union (SU). SU is where you have the cafeteria as well as few pool and tennis table. If you are not into sports or eating, then you can always just sit on the big steps located right by the SU and enjoy the breath taking view of the fountain in front of you ! :)
Food and Dining Food and Dining at UTD is really the most exciting part. UTD offers a cafeteria for all students which consists of chick-fil-A, subway, Papa John's, and other delicious side meals. UTD also has a PUB where you can get the best food and coffee. UTD students who live on campus have their own cafeteria which is pretty much like Fresh choice and sweet tomatoes. They really make sure that their students are well fed ;)
Academic Rigor Okay lets face it, this is not High School or a community college. You will have to attend lectures and keep up with your assignments if you want to make an A. The professors are not lenient in grading, however, they do and will help you out if you go to their office hours and email them with questions. Apart from great professors, UTD also offers tutoring (GEM center) which is always a huge help, because you get one on one tutoring about topics you do not understand. The Gem center hours are also very flexible, so you won't ever have trouble making time to go there.
Tips for prospective students Don't be frightened by how big it looks. It won't take you more than two days to figure out where everything is, because all the buildings are connected and easy to get to. Be sure to get involved in many clubs, so you can network and eventually make your experience at UTD a memorable one. Also make sure to always take help from teacher assistants (if applicable); they really are the ladder to the A's you want to achieve.
In three sentences University of Texas at Dallas has a vast variety of students that you can interact with and learn from. It has some of the best professors as well as tutors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Fairly well-lit and pretty safe from what I've seen. The campus police is very visible and nice.
Greek Life A few of my friends at in fraternities/sororities and they really seem to enjoy it.
Clubs and Activities For a school our size, we have a pretty nice assortment for people interested in different cultures, hobbies, activities, and professions (just go to that organization fair at the beginning of the year or look through the school website). If you can't find a way to get involved...you aren't trying very hard.
Great for these types of students Science-y types, chess players, pre-med students, Asians (you'll blend right in), those who don't want to put financial pressure on their families
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus People supposedly rub the heads of several metal busts/statues for good luck before tests. And we have an art barn? I don't really explore much...and construction is going on so some nice spots are inaccessible (there's a rope swing by the pond behind the res halls).
Bang for the buck I'm on full scholarship (National Merit), so it's quite wonderful (:
What to do for fun My computer is my best friend. But, other than that, be on the lookout for interesting events and concerts (eg. a variety hosted by SUUAB, music events by the School of A&H). There are actually quite a lot and the majority are worth checking out. Also, shopping - in Plano, Dallas, Allen, Frisco, and even a little in Richardson. And there are supposedly parties, for those who are interested.
Food and Dining The dining hall (my main source of food) serves surprisingly good and diverse foods, but it's sometimes a hit-or-miss depending on the cook. You get to serve yourself for the most part (except for those custom order dishes). There's almost always a steady stream of pizza, salad, and burgers if nothing else will do. It's very expensive per meal though. Commuters tend to eat at the Comet Cafe (Subway, Chick-fil-a, Papa John's), Outtakes (salad, more drinks, non-branded warm foods), and the Pub (Starbucks, burgers, other pub foods).
Dorm Life (FYI: I live very close, but it's always nice/convenient to live on campus, especially freshman year.) The dorms/facilities are amazing - new, spacious, and clean - which is great if you just want to stay in your room all day. There usually isn't that much going on, so you'll probably have to make somewhat of an effort to make friends with your neighbors.
Academic Rigor I haven't taken any truly upper level courses (or many just for freshman), so I can't say much. However, I'm finally having to actually study hard - be prepared for those science courses that upperclassmen bemoan.
Tips for prospective students Getting in will probably not be an issue, but be sure to get the best scholarship you can (do well on PSAT, SAT, etc. and apply for special programs/scholarships!). The Clark Scholars program is a good way to get started with research and familiar with the campus during the summer before freshman year. Also, UT-PACT is good for serious pre-meds and McDermott Scholars for those who are good leaders. But be warned about campus life: unless you get involved in a few organizations, it can be on the boring side...especially for those who like to party.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Police are constantly around campus, making sure everyone is safe and not breaking any laws. There are emergency stations all around campus as well, and if you press the help button on one of them, the police will be there in minutes. No need to worry about any of that!
Clubs and Activities There's tons of sports and clubs to join! I myself am a member of the swing dance society on campus, as well as a member of the mock trial team, and I try to go to as many animation guild meetings as I can. Just look and you'll find something you're interested in!
Great for these types of students Science, math, engineering, technology. But it's a great school all around!
What to do for fun There's lots of sports and clubs to get into on campus, so be sure to take a good look around and keep your ears open. UTD is in Richardson (despite the name 'Dallas') and is just a short trip north from the city of Dallas, which has tons to do, from the Arts District, to Northpark Mall, to the Dallas Zoo. Be sure to look at all your options. Also, UTD will give you a free bus pass for DART (the public transportation service in DFW) and you can ride the bus or train anywhere to get from place to place.
Food and Dining The dining hall varies from day to day and sometimes meal to meal on what's reliable to eat, but you can almost always count on the cereal, bagel/toast bar, salads, and pizza--you need something quick, those are most reliable. Be aware of long lines at the dining hall especially at times when it's most likely to be busy (lunch and dinner). The Pub has restaurant-quality food, and is the place to go on campus if you want specialty Starbucks (anything that isn't just a coffee, I think). The Comet Cafe has Subway and Chik-fil-A, among other things, and is where most people who aren't freshman dine on campus; so, you have choices on campus. If you don't want any of that, there's plenty to eat not even five minutes away from campus.
Dorm Life I live on campus in the newest dorm on campus, West, and it's great. Everyone lives in a three bedroom suite, with a shared toilet/shower, common living space, and three separate sinks/cabinet areas. My roommates and I are almost always in our room when we're not in class or running around campus. The only downside is all the construction going on for the new residence hall next door, and problems with electrical outlets and fuzzy internet, but that isn't so much a problem with the other dorms from what I know. I absolutely love my roommates, who are all interested in the same things I am, and we get along famously. I also live in the Arts & Technology Living Learning Community, which means our hallway is filled with other freshman/students in our major, and we do things together all the time and have similar classes. Sign up for an LLC if you can, and be confident in UTD potluck when it comes to roommates, because they usually do very, very well.
Academic Rigor As stated earlier, UTD is a great school for majors relating to math, science, or technology, but there's plenty to choose from. Their Pre-Law office is filled with some of the best legal minds I know, and their Arts & Technology major is one of the best in the country, from what I know. Take the required classes first and get them out of the way, and if you can take classes at a local community college over the summer or have high AP scores, you'll get through those general required classes much more quickly. And be sure to talk to your professor, especially if you have a large class--letting your professor know that you're willing to make that effort can really help you out in the long run.
Tips for prospective students Be sure you talk to everyone you can about your classes, because advisers and professors can help you sink or swim when it comes to grads--believe me, if you don't talk to them or make no effort, they won't cut you any sort of slack. Get involved on campus, and you'll flourish in college life.
In three sentences The University of Texas at Dallas is the place to be if you're wanting a good education, especially in any science, math, or technology related field. With plenty of schools and majors/minors to choose from, you're bound to find a fit for you no matter what. Don't knock UTD just because it isn't the University of Texas at Austin!

Bang for the buck if you are an in state student the university has a great price, this is very helpful for those that dont have the privilage of high income
Academic Rigor the university seems to have great expetation from the students, whihc makes the curriculm challenging and interesting.
Tips for prospective students the tips will mostly be the same as the ones to get into many of the good universities, nevertheless is always important to be remained that having a good gpa, good test scores and many extracurricular activities always help

Categories Comments Food and Dining I have visited several colleges and tasted their cafeteria food. None, have been as good as UTD's food. The variety of food was great and if you don't feel like eating in the cafeteria, there are several restaurants on campus you can eat at like Chick-fil-a.
Dorm Life While I can not vouch for the freshman dorms, I have been inside the dorms of Sophomores (which are similar to Juniors' and Seniors') and they are extremely nice and comfortable. I am very excited at the thought of living in them my second, third, and forth year.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of UTD is well known throughout north Texas. That is what has attracted me to the school. It's science and engineering programs are tough, but highly accredited by local companies such as IBM and TI.
In three sentences University of Texas at Dallas is a beautiful school. It is well known for their education standards and its engineering school.

Academic Rigor When it is exam time, the campus is a ghost town. The classes are very challenging and will definitely require weeks of studying in advance.
Tips for prospective students Growing school that is moving up in the ranks, attend while tuition is still affordable. We don't play physical sports, we play mental. Chess is our equivalent to football at other schools.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has security officers patrolling at night every night. In the mornings, an officer is always present at the busy intersection for the safety of the students.
Clubs and Activities There is a club/organization available for every students. Cultural, major-directed, or just for fun clubs are offered!
What to do for fun There are many student activities held throughout the campus for the majority of the time. There is always something going on! Food is always offered and prizes are a great incentive for going!
Food and Dining The university has a dining hall, Cafe, and The Pub (which has a restaurant type feel). Food is not bad at all, but repetitive for students who have meal plans and eat at the dining hall everyday. Dining dollars are also included in the meal plan which is very nice especially if you just want to grab a drink or snack from the cafe!
Dorm Life The residential halls are very nice with a suite-like system. Three people to a dorm share a living area and shower, while getting their own sink. Each person has their own bedroom which is a major plus! Each floor is like its own community, therefore making friends is easy.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult and you have to pay full attention or you might miss out on an important matter. Professors lecture for a long time and it might get tiresome, but always try to take notes and comprehend the information, not just hear it.
Tips for prospective students Always review your course material and get on close terms with your professors because if they know your face, it helps build a better student-teacher bond. Take advantage of review sessions and on-campus activities.
In three sentences The university provides excellent academic opportunities for students. The environment is smooth and not stressful. People are nice and everyone gets along well within the university community.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe no matter what hour it is.
Clubs and Activities Most of their clubs are useful and go straight to their purposes
Great for these types of students It is great for those who are mostly academically inclined.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus we make a weird hand sign when they sing the school song which is called the Alma mater.
What to do for fun Recreational sports, fraternity activities, and freshman activities.
Food and Dining During the week days the foods in the dining are good but on the weekends they are barely edible.
Dorm Life It is very expensive and dull. Most people in the dorm just mind there business but the dorms are fairly nice because it is like a suite.
Academic Rigor Very strict and fairly hard.
Tips for prospective students Study and do not slack of because it is a very competitive school.
In three sentences The academics is wonderful and very high quality. This is school that is mostly meant for academics so there is not a lot of social activities that go on. Even though it might have a few dull features, if you really focus on the academics parts you will do very good.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This is a very safe campus with lots of services that ensure the safety of everyone.
Greek Life Not the stereotypical greek life in the sense that it is very dull but they still know how to have fun!
Clubs and Activities There are lots of different clubs, activities and events.
Great for these types of students Students that love intermural sports and love to study while also creating time to chill.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It is believed that kissing the Greene statue before a test helps you excel, and try to find the Geo Rock on your own!
Bang for the buck Not expensive but you still get lots of opportunities for internships and athletic recognition.
What to do for fun Make friends and you all can participate in several sporting events together. There are also a lot of shows and social events that are organized on a regular basis.
Food and Dining The dining itself is not really that good, but the food chains are nice especially if you have a meal plan and get free dining dollars.
Dorm Life It could be fun. That's where I made most of my friends. In each dorm there are ping-pong, billiard and fooseball equipments but quiet hours start at 12 midnight. Personally I think the residential halls are too expensive considering the service you get.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the professor but the school makes sure all the courses are somewhat challenging and require a bit of effort.
Tips for prospective students Apply early because there are lots of scholarships, do not let mid-term grades fool you and learn the skill of time management.
In three sentences University of Dallas at Texas is very challenging so time management is a very important skill, living on campus helps you feel a sense of being part of a community and the social life is not very exciting.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It seems to me like the campus has a low crime rating.
Greek Life Not really feeling the Greek Life at this university. Not sure whether I'm just not into Frats or whether it's because of the way the people act at this college. A lot of guys (not sure about girls) end up practically changing much about themselves, from wardrobe to personality in order to fit in. Advice: Stick to your own personality and stay original.
Clubs and Activities Swing Dancing. Intramural Sports. Cultural clubs.
Great for these types of students People trying to make new friends.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Mascot is a Comet called Temoc. Honestly it/he freaks out a lot of people, especially girls from what I've observed.
Bang for the buck In a sense you get what you pay for. Make sure you know about all the discounts you receive for being a student.
What to do for fun Great question. I myself am trying to figure this out. If you have a car then you can go around town, go to a club, head downtown, eat off campus, etc. If you don't have a car, there are some events to go on campus on Friday nights like movie night at the library which happens I believe every other Friday, and there's also Swing Dancing.
Food and Dining You will honestly miss home cooking. At times some of the food may lack some taste.
Dorm Life The dorms are pretty amazing. Very much spacious and it's a whole lot better once you make friends who also live in the dorms. I've heard some complaints about the shower head. I find it alright.
Academic Rigor Courses are pretty challenging yet beneficial. You truly do learn all the things necessary for your career. The GPA system is quite annoying, as in there is such a huge drop between an A and A-. Look into that in order to know what you're going through.
Tips for prospective students Know all the information such as price regarding Housing especially if you're staying at the dorms. Like every other college, there are those professors that will make the course harder than it needs to be. Most importantly, study and take every class seriously.
In three sentences Academic-wise, the school is pretty good. To be honest there is a lack of a social life if you stay on campus and don't have a car. Other than that, you just got to make the best of your situation and it'll be a fun yet educational experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You cannot drive through campus legally. We have our own police station on campus. Our school is surrounded by quiet suburbs. There are police officers around the apartments and dorms at all hours of the day. Campus is well-lit and buildings are locked at night. There are accessible blue phone stations that are well-lit and will link you directly with the police.
Greek Life There is Greek life, but it doesn't appear to be a huge player. You can choose to get involved in the crazier ones with parties, or you can choose one that focuses more on service and community. Both are available, but it's not something everyone does. It's just an option that works for some people.
Clubs and Activities I haven't participated in clubs much, but when I do, the people there work very hard to keep them working the way they would like. It seems simple to start a club or organization, and I do believe that most organizations on campus would like to create events that the students would enjoy, rather than whatever they can budget for easily.
Great for these types of students Anyone interested in computer science, nanotechnology, or speech pathology would likely do very well here and be very happy.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We pretend to have traditions. This school only recently started its undergraduate program, so we really don't have any traditions.
Bang for the buck I got a full-tuition scholarship to UTD, as well as many of my friends. I feel that I am getting a valuable education.
What to do for fun There are a few swimming pools available. The student union has many pool tables, a TV lounge, and a few video games that you have to pay for. There are different activities hosted by different organizations on campus, such as the Homecoming Dance (even though we don't have a football team), multiple musician, comedian, and poet performances, and cultural events.
Food and Dining The Pub is a sort-of on-campus restaurant, and it is good. The Dining Hall, which is like a cafeteria, has poor-quality food. There are a few on-campus, fast-food options, such as Chick-Fil-A and Pizza Hut.
Dorm Life The dorms are well-built with good peer-advisers. There are many options for activities and many facilities available, such as pool tables, ping-pong tables, and sports courts.
Academic Rigor I found many of my classes to be challenging, but they don't have to be. Many of my friends have taken courses with very little work and studying outside of class and exams.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you understand your major very well because some of the advisers won't understand much better than you do. Look up professors before you take their courses. Wait until the first day of class to purchase your textbook. Try to get in contact with other students for used textbook and study materials.
In three sentences The University of Texas at Dallas is growing very quickly, but it often feels as if it were a small school. Many of the students and staff members have a sort-of geeky vibe, along with a wide variety of culture that might not be found at a school of similar size and reputation. It prides itself on its academic standing, despite being a widely unknown state school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel safe on campus. UTD has there own police stations and buttons everywhere that will call the police automatically placed around campus.
Greek Life It's not as hardcore as other Universities, but there's still an opportunity to get involved in Greek Life here. Whether it's a sorority or fraternity all about partying, or one about community service and the community,UTD has it.
Clubs and Activities There's a club and activity for almost anything. Whether it's a specific language such as the Russian club or Spanish club, or if it's related to your major such as the Computer Science club, it's a well rounded selection. It's always encouraged to create your own clubs as well.
Great for these types of students Anyone who loves video games, or would be sterotyped as a geek or nerd. It's a tight knit community for anyone who just wants to relax and play some League of Legends or World of Warcraft. (Pardon for the outdated reference.)
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a huge love-jack statue that everyone hangs around, and a statue of a man, who's forehead you kiss for good luck on an exam. It's a fairly new University so there's always room to create your own unusual traditions.
Bang for the buck University of Texas at Dallas is one of the less expensive schools, and will provide you a great education, preparing you well for the real world.
What to do for fun Greek life and SUAAB make a lot of events, and since there's a different array of individuals attending the University, there's almost everything. Whether you want to study, there's study rooms and groups, or party on the weekends there's always a party held by a fraternity or by the campus. If you like video games, there's constantly tournaments going around campus, and if you just want to hang out with your friends, there's always room. It's a well rounded University.
Food and Dining Dining is one of my only complaints, as the food isn't top quality and I would say is not worth the money required to pay for a meal plan, but it does get the job done with a variety of options.
Dorm Life I personally love the dorm life, for freshman there are dorm suites in which three students live in one suite. There's an individual room and sink for each student, and one bathroom and shower shared between the three roommates. It's a wonderful experience compared to many larger universities, and the peer advisors in charge are quick to resolve any conflicts.
Academic Rigor This is a no-joke school. There are few blow off classes, if you intend to attend UTD, you have to work hard, but in the end it will be worth it.
Tips for prospective students Apply for as many scholarships as possible, and get involved on campus! If you like the social side of a University, get involved in Greek life, if you love your major, get involved in clubs and activities relating to it.
In three sentences University of Texas at Dallas is a school specified in the engineering and computer science department, providing a top notch education in those fields. It's smaller University that allows for great connections with your peers. It provides a lot of scholarship opportunities to allow everyone that chance for a great education.

What to do for fun Many events like sports events, debates, watching movies, or joining an organization.
Tips for prospective students Try your best everyday because the Professors will not just pass you.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Overall a bit pricey and rather non traditional it its academic and institutional approach, but if you are open minded and love Dallas, then you're in the right place.
What to do for fun Well there are intramural sports, a bar on campus, and lots of clubs and activities.
Food and Dining On campus dining is actually pretty good. Shocking...I know. Lol.
Dorm Life I would highly recommend getting an off campus apartment. You will have more freedom and save some money overall.
Academic Rigor This is a school for the professionally minded, and the cost reflects this. If you aren't willing to commit and to do the hard and smart work needed, than I would consider a different campus perhaps.
Tips for prospective students I would advise anyone about to attend to not procrastinate. Just get everything done as quickly and succinctly as possible. Do this and you will alleviate a great deal of stress from your life later on!
In three sentences It is honestly a bit clinical and business oriented, however this provides a less complicated and more efficient system for entry level students to fall into. The modern architecture and ample natural Texas landscaping adds a unique aesthetic to your collegiate experience. Not to mention there are mist coolers in the quad, a bar on campus, and a pretty much endless variety of on and off campus activities to participate in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun For fun there are a ton of events that occur on campus all the time. There are also plenty of things to do in the student union, like play pool or ping pong or an arcade game, not to mention the TV lounge room. There is also a gym if you like to workout for fun. Oh, and plenty of intramural sports teams to join!
Food and Dining Just like most universities you have the original cafeteria, but UTD also has the comet cafe, the pub, and plenty of other choices for lunch! It is great to have so many different choices instead of the same thing day after day.
Dorm Life I cannot rate the dorm life because I am actually a commuter student.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor here is great. The professors know so much on the topic they are teaching that they can transmit information to the students excellently. You actually get to learn new things in college, imagine that!
Tips for prospective students Join clubs and organizations not only will it look great on your applications for the future, but you will meet so many great people!
In three sentences The University of Texas at Dallas has a great friendly faculty that is willing to go out of their way to help you. The fact that it is a very diverse campus is great because you have a chance to meet all kinds of different people. If you are interested in clubs and organizations there are so many to join and it is not hard to find out about them and to get involved on campus.

Food and Dining Food not so great, but there is a Chickfila and a Subway on campus.
Dorm Life Wouldn't know, I live off campus!
Academic Rigor Difficult classes, but if you work hard you will do well.
Tips for prospective students Use the Student Resources. The writing center, counseling center, financial aid office, and the Comet Center. These are essential and will make your life much easier.
In three sentences Awesome School! the advisers are extremely helpful, the campus is easy to find and to find needed information. The only down side is the food, not exactly up to par.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel pretty safe while on campus. Not once this past semester have I felt unsafe.
Clubs and Activities There are numerous clubs and activities UTD has to offer.
Great for these types of students UTD is great for all types of students.
Bang for the buck I believe UTD is reasonably priced. Make sure to complete and submit your FAFSA.
What to do for fun There is always some event taking place on campus. In the Student Union, there is Pool, Ping-Pong, and other games.
Food and Dining I am very impressed with the Student Union building. There is Subway, Chick-Fil-A, pizza, and another vendor I believe. Plus there is a cafeteria for the students who live on campus. There are also other restaurants on campus.
Dorm Life I do not live on campus, so I do not know what the dorm life is like.
Academic Rigor All of my classes thus far have been challenging and the professors expect no less from undergraduates. Everyone treats you like an adult and you are expected to act like one. The work is hard, but very rewarding.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and stay on top of your application process. The University will be sending you To-Do's to complete. Once you are accepted, make sure you get a parking permit, your UTD-ID card, and take an afternoon to walk the campus and find where your classes will be.
In three sentences I absolutely love UTD. This is my first semester there and have learned more than my previous years in Community college. I would recommend UTD to anyone.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police constantly patrol. I have never heard of any safety issues on campus.
Greek Life Greek life is developing along with the school. At one point, it was very inactive, though most people recognize the fraternities and sororities now. Each one has its own unique flavor, which gives students a number of good choices.
Clubs and Activities -Greek (fraternities and sororities) -World-champion chess team -Pretty much a club for anything you can think of
Great for these types of students -Engineering -Computer science -Speech pathology / therapy -Audiology
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Before exams, we sometimes rub the head of a statue of one of our founders for good luck.
Bang for the buck Many complain that UT Dallas is a nerd school, though we are becoming more diverse as we grow. It is an incredible school with great academics with relatively low prices. The surrounding area is rich in fun and interesting experiences.
What to do for fun People tend to be housed together based on interests (unless you ask otherwise). You may see a group of musicians, gamers, etc. grouped together playing together much of the time. Also, we have rugby, baseball, volleyball, basketball, and chess teams that compete regularly. As for outside the school, Richardson (where the campus is housed) is fairly boring other than a few bars, good restaurants, and hookah joints. However, it is a short drive from downtown Dallas and surrounding areas. Depending on what you're into, there are clubs, interesting restaurants, flea markets, an aquarium, and others.
Food and Dining Dining is another area in which UTD has improved over the past few years. They offer a dining hall with meal plans to provide your everyday food needs, as well as a cafe containing Subway, Chik-fil-a, Luby's-like food, and sushi options. A new addition this past year was a food truck that drives to various locations around campus to bring good food to you.
Dorm Life During my freshman year (2009), I was one of the first students in the UTD dorms. Since then, they have built two new dorm buildings, with plans to build more. Their dorm Peer Adviser program is very helpful in helping students adjust to college life in Dallas. There will be a ton of opportunities to meet others.
Academic Rigor This is a math and science school, so the coursework can be challenging depending upon your major. However, the overall experience is rewarding and will help in your future career search.
Tips for prospective students 1. You get out of the school what you put into it. No one will force you to be involved on campus, so you'll have to do that yourself. 2. Look into scholarships! Most undergraduates at the school receive some type of scholarship (many even paying all four years of tuition). Look around the UTD website and educate yourself.
In three sentences UT Dallas is a school marked by growth. When I was a freshman, it was a nasty pit of construction and dirt; now, after much work, it is becoming a beautiful, thriving campus. The school is very academically-focused (mostly math and science), and a ton of undergraduate scholarships are offered based on GPA, community service, and extracurricular work.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe campus. Rarely any occurences of misconduct and there is always a policeman willing to escort you to your car if it's getting late. The campus is safe enough for you to walk back to your apartment at 2 in the morning or 4 in the morning.
Greek Life I don't have much knowledge of greek life other than there are alot of fraternities and sororities on campus.
Clubs and Activities Lots of different organizations and clubs to join especially those related to the field you want to work in.
Great for these types of students UTD is great for the focused, structured, intelligent, and driven students. There aren't many partiers or slackers and if there are, they are pressured by their peers to work just as hard.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Rubbing of Cecil Green's head for good luck before exams. Never tried it though.
Bang for the buck Exceptional education and academic environment. All of the students at UTD were very serious about their education and it was worth every penny.
What to do for fun Not much campus life, almost everyone is a commuter. You have to make your own fun, hang out with your friends at the student union, go places if one of you has a car. Not a lot of regular on campus activities.
Food and Dining Limited food options. In order to eat well, you must have a car to get groceries and cook or go to a good place to eat. On campus dining options are very limited in terms of variety.
Dorm Life Clean and safe dorms and apartments. Management wasn't that great but for the most part dorm life was satisfactory.
Academic Rigor The classes at UTD were challenging but manageable. The professors were wonderful and really wanted their students to do well.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and make good friends who will keep you on track. It is very easy to become sidetracked because of all the freedom and independence given to you as a college student. Study hard, play hard, do well, and have fun.
In three sentences UTD was a very safe and student friendly school. Everyone was very academically driven and kept each other on track. It was a pleasure going to this university.
