Tips for prospective students You may think college is all fun and parties, it is but then if you do not know where your priorities lie, you can get bad grades thus might getting on probation. A good tip is to remain focused, do your work, never fall behind and study! Parties will always be here and there and fun is all around, just manage it all carefully.
Bang for the buck Yes, money is always an issue no matter what college you attend. Still, the faculty of financial aid are willing to help you get the most of your aid and help you out with payments. Plus, make sure you save up some money, or a lot of money for books and housing, that includes food.
Am enjoying being here I love the environment, the people, the whole feeling of being here and doing what i want to do.
Am learning a lot What is there to learn about U.T.S.A. ? For starters, how great the college is! I love the size of the college, not so big but then again not so small. I learned that U.T.S.A. offers a variety of degrees from the Arts to Engineering majors. I have also learned that the people here at U.T.S.A. are here to help you, students are friendly and professors really want you to learn. Lastly, i learned that in college you can never get behind, you have to be focused and willing to do better and never settle for less.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is great for all types of students, you just have to be willing to put in the effort to strive for the best.
Tips for prospective students Go to the professor during their office hours, it's a great deal of help. SI sessions can be very helpful, so go to as many as you can if you're class offers them.
Bang for the buck UTSA is very affordable and I'm getting a good education for what I'm paying.
Am enjoying being here I've made a great deal of new friends, and there are lots of organizations that you can get involved in and give yourself something to do rather than sit in your dorm (or apartment) every night and study. Not that it's a bad thing to study, but it's great to give yourself a break once in a while
Am learning a lot I didn't think I could learn more from the basic classes than everyone needs, but I have. There are some points that weren't even mentioned from my high school classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is a great home for every type of student. With a diverse student body in an exciting city, there is always something to do for every one.
Tips for prospective students Once you are here, do not hesitate to join clubs or speak up in class. There are organizations for every type of student, and the administration and student body is always willing to help out a fellow roadrunner.
Bang for the buck The Financial Aid office here is always eager to help a student maximize his or her monetary rewards. Included with UTSA tuition are the gym, the clinic, and health services.
Am enjoying being here At UTSA, the majority of the buildings are very new which makes for a very clean, modern campus. Not only is the campus beautiful, but everything is conveniently located making the necessity to go off-campus rare.
Am learning a lot With most class sizes at UTSA being no larger than what high school students are already accustomed to, professors have a unique opportunity to interact with each student individually.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is great for all types of students! Females, males, majorities, minorities, and all the other types you can think of! And the great thing is you will be able to find people and become friends with people of all types !
Tips for prospective students Fully prepare and research before settling down with a decision! Look through all the housings, on and around campus, and research all your options of when and where to take your classes. Most importantly, don't feel scared or intimidated about coming to college. As being a Korean, I am a minority and a female but the school environment welcomed me right in and had me meet great people all throughout my college years.
Bang for the buck The tuition fee is not a give away because the school provides students with great facilities and service. One of the great facilities in school is the Rec Center. Its is a gym center for UTSA students, opened until 12am on weekdays and it includes a basketball court, indoor soccer field, racquetball courts, indoor track, treadmills, and even a lazy pool. In a time of stress, the Rec Center is a great place to let everything down and just focus on working out and sweat away all the frustration. UTSA provides over 20 restaurants on campus, including Chick-fil-A and Chili's, and even has a hair salon and a stationery store.
Am enjoying being here There are housings all around the school that is very close with a shuttle bus system. Plenty of student organizations make up the school and all my friends are busy helping out or enjoying an event each weekend. I am currently joined in a Korean campus Bible study group called BASIC (Brothers And Sisters In Christ). It is opened for everyone and it helps me meet new people and to discuss about my interest and learn more! Importantly, the school provides a great studying environment. The library is opened for 24 hours on weekdays, which helps the students to check up in their studies in a quite and comfortable environment.
Am learning a lot There are plenty of classes that you can take! UTSA offers a varity of different subjects taught by various professors that widens your choice of which classes to take and from whom you should take it from. I am currently a Psychology major and all the classes that I've taken (both psychology related & core classes) have taught me thoroughly about the subject and more. Outside of class, the school has both an Army and Air Force corp that allows for an individual to learn to build his or her characteristics and to provide an opportunity to join the forces.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Humanities students who want to save money, as our college of humanities is not a bad one at all and employs a variety of very good professors, especially in anthropology; students who want to do research in the sciences, as we have many graduate programs available including programs aimed at getting students interested in research and later admitted into graduate school.
Tips for prospective students Do not live on campus. Housing is ridiculously expensive for what is offered. If you choose off-campus housing, choose somewhere a little bit farther out - the difference in price is amazing. If you currently live at home with your family in San Antonio, stay there. Take advantage of as many free events as you can. UTSA offers movie showing on Friday nights, and has several events throughout the year where they give out free t-shirts, food, miscellaneous items, and hold contests. Go to as many of these as possible. You paid for them, so don't ever feel guilty. The Recreation Center offers trips throughout the year to different places in Texas for activities like canoeing, kayaking and backpacking at discounted pricing. Take advantage of these also. Develop an early and close relationship with your professor by not only talking to them after class but by going to their office hour and emailing them. Talk about things other than that particular class, and try to get to know them as a person. Also, until they know it by heart, always tell them your name. You'd be surprised how long it takes for them to remember it.
Bang for the buck UTSA definitely has one thing going for it - at about $4,500 a semester for a full-time student it is affordable. However, with the state of Texas facing a large budget shortfall, cuts are in the making, and UTSA has suffered as a result. Currently the school's financial aid is in a sort of limbo as a result of the budget cuts, while several thousand students depend on it. While tuition is reasonable, UTSA gets you with the fees, which are upwards of $1,000. One good thing about UTSA - they are always giving out something free for some reason or another.
Am enjoying being here As a commuter college still on its way to become a university whose name actually impresses people, UTSA is in a very transitional state. As a large college, there are a large variety of activities going on at any one time, but there is a lack of unity on campus. That may change in the future as we just got our own football team, but for now the college seems like motley crew of people simply trying to get their degrees done, many of whom don't take their studies as seriously as they do their parties or Greek societies. As for the professors, in many of the colleges they are more focused on their research than on the quality of education that they provide to the students. With the student population increasing every year (right now it sits at 30,000), many of the classes are overcrowded, parking is a mess, and the relationship between the student and the professor suffers. It is incredibly difficult to develop any sort of relationship with your professor, much less a close enough one for them to write a good letter of recommendation - and with scholarship and graduate program applications asking for several, it is almost impossible. Amenities are improving. We have a large variety of restaurants on campus, including Chic-fil-a, Chili's, Burger King, Panda Express, Taco Cabana and two Starbucks, but these are pricier than their stand-alone cousins, and never participate in any of the advertised promotions. We have a state-of-the-art Recreation Center, which looks very nice and offers many ways to work off those freshman fifteen. UTSA also just built two very nice looking buildings, the Bioscience Technology and Engineering Building, and the Applied Engineering and Technology Building, but unfortunately they only house professors' offices, labs, and a few graduate classrooms. UTSA has two parking garages and is in the process of building a third, but the parking passes for these garages cost about three times as much as a regular parking pass, and they aren't building any more lots. Another building in the works is the North Paseo Building, which will house more classrooms. These examples epitomize UTSA's current situation - a former commuter school aiming for Tier One Status.
Am learning a lot As a state school, UTSA has a large variety of programs to choose from. Unfortunately, also like a state school, quantity is valued over quality here. Odds are, if you are majoring in something in the college of business, science, or engineering, your first three years of classes will have upwards of one hundred students enrolled. Professors cope by making tests all Scantron and Parscore, and to make things worse each discipline requires a different one. This only allows professors to test your memorization skills, not comprehension or critical thinking. I was able to get by in genetics without ever knowing what exactly a ribosome was. However, some professors do make the effort to get to know their students and there are some very experienced professors who still employ short answer and essay exams, but they tend to be only in the college of humanities.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The student clientele at UTSA is pretty well-rounded. There's a niche for everyone, you've just gotta go find it.
Tips for prospective students The parking situation is a toughie. If you want a spot, you've gotta give yourself fifteen or so minutes to find one, or get a moped/motorcyle for special parking. Or try parking at the Valero parking lot where you get shuttled from the parking lot to the school.
Bang for the buck Classes aren't too expensive for going to a state school. Some of the professors really give you your money's worth, but then there are those professors who could care less. Check ratemyprofessors.com. It's saved me from some terrible professors! Another good idea is to attend S.I. sessions or go to the TRC Q-lab for some extra help.
Am enjoying being here There are so many things to do on campus and so many club gatherings to attend. The rec has a lot of cool hang out spots and a great exercising facility. There are also some decent places to eat or just hang out at. It's pretty easy to make friends here.
Am learning a lot You'll learn as much as you put into it, just like anything else. Ask lots of questions of your professors: you'll learn and look like you're giving it a good amount of effort.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are living off campus, parking can sometimes be a hassle. I would suggest the UTSA Shuttle Bus or leaving home an extra 10-15 minutes early to find that spot. Trust me you are going to need it. If you are living on campus, you can use a bike or walk. The dorms are not the far from campus if you use your shortcuts.
Tips for prospective students I suggest that you go to your professor during their office hours, or if your not the one on one person, then try the SI sessions or the TRC Lab. Also, make good use of the library since it is open 24/5.
Bang for the buck I believe that you will get your moneys worth at UTSA! The experience that you will have is worth it. I am a cheerleader for UTSA, so there is a lot for one to do on and off campus. The student population at UTSA is pretty well diverse. There is something on campus for everyone, you just have to know where to look and who to talk to.
Am enjoying being here I love being at UTSA. It has activities for everyone to do. The people that you will meet are campus will probably end up becoming some of your best friends, in the long run.
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot at UTSA. Not just in academics but also about myself. UTSA has great professors who are willing to help you if you just make the effort.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students If you live on campus, make sure you but yourself a bike. If you commute, make sure to leave with plenty of time to get to class. Make good use of the library. SI sessions have been proven to increase grades by a full letter so do attend when you have the chance.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Balance between studying and fun is a must! But of course this is true for all college students. Get to know the campus, it helps so you dont waste time walking the longer routes to class. Class scheduling should also be set so that you do as little transportation as possible (to and from the campus).
Bang for the buck Unless you go to a community college you can expect college to be very expensive. UTSA is for the most part has a pretty good price for its price. They offer many free programs, free shuttles to get to class, free gym membership at the recreation center, and much more. The price is definitely worth it when you get a quality education with much more. My only problem so far is paying my on campus apartment rent.
Am enjoying being here I decided to go to UTSA with the intention of transferring to UT Austin through the CAP program. After less than a week of being here at UTSA I backed out of the CAP program and decided I wanted to stay here at UTSA for my four years of college. UTSA is a great campus, the people are fun and nice, and I have no reason to not like it here.
Am learning a lot They have tons of programs included in your tuition that allows you to take advantage of and help in your classes. They have free tutoring, writing centers that help you with your writing for free, they have SI classes that help you in your classes, again free. A lot of people commonly decide UTSA is not a good school just because it is a satellite of UT Austin but it is in fact a great school thats growing very fast. I hope to one day see it as big as UT Austin and Texas A&M.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Kids who want to stay at home in S.A. or for those who want to go to a University but not a huge one.
Tips for prospective students I have lived here all my life, and the school is great for someone who wants to stay in town. There is a great atmosphere about the school. And if your not from San Antonio, the school is not to big so you wont feel completely overwhelmed and lost.
Bang for the buck Very cheap considering everyone else. If your from S.A all you have to worry about is tuition, fees, and books. I payed nothing outta pocket, thanks to financial aid.
Am enjoying being here I am only here for a short while, both at the downtown campus and 1604 but I really like it. The downtown campus is located very conveniently in the heart of downtown, so if your not from San Antonio, a little sight seeing between classes could be something fun to do.
Am learning a lot Learning depends on the type of person you are and the type of person your professor is. Sometimes you will have to adjust your learning styles in order to follow along. If your a visual learner you have to stay focused because most teachers lecture. But I have learned a lot. I come home and almost everyday I tell my parents something new.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any student, from those looking for athletic and Greek clubs to serious students who want to hit the books, join academic clubs and be prepared for their future jobs will fit in perfectly here. There is a diverse population of people from all over, come be a part of it!
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for a place where you can be yourself, earn a degree and have fun meeting new people; UTSA is a great place to look with a nice price tag. Find a place close by or live on campus to cut transportation prices out of the equation and allow for quick access to the campus or your home if there is ever a need.
Bang for the buck Cheaper than UT Austin with the a great and climbing standing in the college ranks. The professors know what they're doing and the information is accurate and up to date. A great library system with online catalogs, professional journals and free newspapers is open 24 hours with plenty of computers, private rooms and cubicles for study. The campus also has a great recreation center with a rock climbing wall and several sport fields open to all students.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is pleasant, accepting and friendly. There are plenty of events and clubs to incorporate all students into the UTSA culture and make college fun. The recreation center on campus is extensive and conveniently located.
Am learning a lot UTSA has great professors that are not only good at what they do but make the subject matter enjoyable and easy to learn. Classes are difficult but that's how you know its worth the money, right? UTSA also offers SI sessions and has a huge library with helpful staff to further your success.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I do believe any student would enjoy their attendance at UTSA.
Tips for prospective students Choosing UTSA would be an awesome choice. I think you can receive the same amount of education you would at any ivy league schools. A handy tip would be to manage your time and priorities. There are many distractions, but you must know the time and place for them. Study, study, study!
Bang for the buck Even though all colleges are expensive, I believe UTSA really gives you all that you pay for. I think it's fairly affordable for anyone, even if you couldn't afford a private school, you could still manage to pay for UTSA.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying being here. Even though I was born and raised in San Antonio, I love it even more knowing that we have such an amazing university right out our back door. The college experience is a thrilling roller coaster, you never know which loop your going to go through next.
Am learning a lot Every day here at UTSA you learn more than you did the day before. You have so many wonderful resources to use and they are very helpful. I learned a lot about the different undergraduate programs they offer. Attending both the downtown and the main campus is a fun experience and you receive the equal amount of education from both campuses.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If your looking to go to college and get a great education while at the same time have and make new friends, then U.T.S.A is the place for you.
Tips for prospective students when attending U.T.S.A or any college it is always good to be prepared for anything and everything. You need to always be on top of your school work and make sure you always study for your test. Also for your first semester don't overload yourself with classes take it easy your first semester so you can get the feel of what college life is then you will no your boundaries and no what you can handle and what you can't.
Bang for the buck At U.T.S.A you can get an outstanding education at a lower price then almost any four year institute here in Texas. Tuition is some what cheap and getting financed is easy to do at U.T.S.A, not to mention the school itself offers a lot of scholarships making it even easier to pay for school.
Am enjoying being here U.T.S.A is a fun and great school. They have tons of activities for you to enjoy and a lot of places at the college where you can hang out with friends. They also have a lot of events that take place at the school that and cool to do. My favorite event was casino night, where we got to play all sorts of poker games.
Am learning a lot U.T.S.A has been a great experience this first semester for me. They have great teachers and lots of people there who are willing to help you if you need it. They have tons of tutors and teachers who will give up some of there time to teach you what your having a difficulty understanding.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any student! There are so many different people here at UTSA that I am not able to pinpoint it to just a few major types!
Tips for prospective students I would definitely recommend joining the Greek life on campus. Although I am not a apart of the Greek life, a lo t of the main events that go around on campus are sponsored by the Greeks, and they are always involved! If not interested in Greek life, there are PLENTY of clubs that are available to students from every walk of life.
Bang for the buck From residence life to the beautiful campus, the price, even for out-of-state, if very reasonable and there is plenty of financial aid that is available to any and every student!
Am enjoying being here The campus has so many wonderful people and everyone is nice! The dorms are ten0times better than most other college campuses because they are apartment style which means, your own room! The campus is not too big and not too small. It makes you feel as if you are at large university, such as UT Austin, without all of the confusion!
Am learning a lot At the UTSA, unlike most other large college campuses, all of the buildings are in the same vicinity so getting to class is no problem! The professors are all willing to work with students individually to help them make the grade. The lecture halls vary in size, but for the most part, are a decent and hold approximately 100 students. All professors have office hours in which you can visit them and ask them anything! Another thing that UTSA offers are Supplemental Instructors. These instructors, or SI's hold sessions that help students with the class that they are taking because they, in fact, have already taken the class themselves! If you attend the SI sessions, your average grade will go up a whole letter!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This university is great for those who are disciplined and know how to control themselves being away from home. Since, you'll be having fun while keeping up the GPA you've always wanted.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. Do not procrastinate. And do not party too much cause this will affect you later on and it will be reflected on your grades.
Bang for the buck I consider it being a bit expensive yet worth it for the college experience and this university has a lot of resources that help.
Am enjoying being here I love it here. The weather is perfect and everyone is very happy and there is never riots or crimes. It is peaceful yet there is a few parties once in a while.
Am learning a lot It has one the best professors and if you cant understand something there is tutors around that will help you until you understand it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is great for all kinds of students, but you must be prepared to study hard and actually attend all your classes. You would be surprised how many students just throw away their money by not even showing up to class. That is unwise because you're paying thousands of dollars for it, you might as well utilize all the resources you can!
Tips for prospective students Make sure to become involved in something that you're interested in. College is very much about the level of education you receive and logging in the proper study hours, but it is also very much about socializaiton. There are a myriad of opportunites for everyone to have something they're passionate about. It doesn't matter what organization you join, just get out there and join something! You will not regret all the experiences and people you are able to meet and come together with for a common purpose.
Bang for the buck Tuition is not cheap by any means, but it is reasonable compared to other universities. I myself have to depend on loans, scholarships, and all the help my family can give me. I'm not looking forward to paying all those college loans after college, but I feel like the quality of education that I'm receiving is worth it.
Am enjoying being here UTSA is an enormous campus with a very spirited campus life. There are so many organizations for students to join and be a part of something. It is very easy to make friends and get to know your peers. The classes for freshman and sophomores are very big and are filled with around 200 students, so it's important to make allies in each of your classes. Everyone seems to be nice and helpful at this school.
Am learning a lot The professors really try to work with their students and are simply excellent educators. The professors that I have had these past two semesters have made their lectures interesting and enjoyable. There are some exceptions to this; students should always make sure to check out reviews on their professors to ensure a good learning experience.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for students who want that college experience. Who want to me new people and are willing to learn about what the world is like out there. If you are looking for a university that is collected, has activities going on, and is chill UTSA is a good place for you.
Tips for prospective students Don't get distracted by others. Don't be afraid to use the advising centers, they are there to help you. As well as the tutoring centers, they are established there to help you. Don't give up, study, work hard. But most of all don't forget to breathe and enjoy college.
Bang for the buck UTSA is affordable unlike the other universities. The food/restaurants here are great. The people and staff are nice. Their are people here at UTSA that are willing to help and answer any questions. It is a great school. So go for it!
Am enjoying being here I actually enjoy UTSA. The campus is expanding and it’s a nice school. It’s a clean well kept campus. Everyone is pretty friendly and the students are very active. You will always see people with a booth table giving information on their club or just doing fundraisers. It is a fun campus with activities going on. The recreation center is amazing, so use it while you are there! I have meet many new people and I am from San Antonio. A lot of my friends are transferring to UTSA because of how chill it is.
Academic Rigor You can learn new things just about anywhere, but UTSA has broaden my knowledge greatly. Not just academically, but in maturity as well. UTSA provides tutoring centers paid by your tuition so it is free to go to. It helps a lot, so you shouldn't be afraid to step into one. I am learning a lot throughout the months. In some large classes they have SI leaders. SI leaders are basically students who have previously taken the class and passed with an outstanding grade. They will be there to hold sessions after or before class to go over what the teacher lectured about. It is not mandatory that you attend the sessions, but they are helpful. They definitely helped me. I was worried about the classes being too big and I wouldnâ??t be able to learn, but the tutoring centers help. And your professor, depending on them, will help you out if you are struggling. Just ask for their office hours. But if you are to afraid to go up to them and ask them for help, ask the students around you or go to the tutoring center. They are always willing to help. As for me I love it. I am learning a lot. I have attended SI sessions and have been to the tutoring centers. I truly mean it, if you are afraid that you wonâ??t get the help you need, you definitely will.

Bang for the buck I suggest for thoses students goin into Architecture to get as many scholarships as possible. The classes do require that you buy alot of materials that can get very costly.
Am enjoying being here Being in the College of Architecture requires alot of work and time management. Architecture majorws will be spending alot of time working on projects to meet the deadlines.
Am learning a lot I am currently enrolled in the College of Architecture at UTSA. The program is great and is taught by great professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone, this school has so much to offer, you won't be disappointed.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and smart, Get a plan as far as organization when it comes to your classes and schedule. Time management is key. Get involved in the campus and have a little fun. Your there to learn, but don't kill yourself, live a little. Don't get too crazy. Do the readings and attend SI sessions, Get to know the professors, it can help when it comes to close grades and test judgments. Sit near the front so you don't have that many distractions.
Bang for the buck For the money, its a great education. UTSA is moving towards a tier 1 research school and the on campus support programs help pull you through tough times in classes. The Tomas Rivera Center helps along with SI Sessions through your courses. It is definitely up there with UT Austin and other wide ranked universities as far a education, in my opinion.
Am enjoying being here As we all know, it is school but the environment allows you to be relaxed and study smart. The campus is centralized so you arent running across campus, worring that you arent going to make it to your next class. I enjoy it
Am learning a lot The professors are very knowledgeable on their subjects and their enthusiasm drives me and other students alike to participate in class discussions and study sessions. They make you want to learn the subject at times, No matter what the class size.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone looking for great college career with a friendly environment.
Tips for prospective students College is SO much different than high school. If your a procrastinator, try to change that before you come to college because its hard to grow out of it once your here. Also study as much as you can and avoid going out alot. One thing I learned is don't overload yourself during your freshman year. Freshman year is a time for learning the new routine, making friends, and understanding what college is all about. Enjoy it!
Bang for the buck UTSA offers alot of great majors and degrees for everyone. Every college is going to be expensive, but UTSA offers alot for what you pay. It offers free tutoring, free shuttle services, alot of campus activites, recreation memberships, discount offers from local buisnesses, and lots of other stuff.
Am enjoying being here This campus is so beautiful and there is always so much to do around campus. Also, with so many clubs to join there is something for everyone. The hometown environment is also great because it never hectic and everyone is always so nice. It's not too big but not too small. Also, the campus
Am learning a lot UTSA is an awesome school! They really care about your education and go out of their way to teach you. The class selections are great and professors are passionate about their classes. They are always looking for their students input on how to make their classes better.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is great for any type of student. UTSA is especially great if you're a CAP (Coordinated Admissions Program) student. This school will definitely help you get way above the 3.2 GPA. Trust me, I know. I am a CAP student and I attend UTSA right now.
Tips for prospective students If you're planning to attend UTSA, then good choice. You guys are going to have a NEW football team playing in the Southland conference. Remember to go to the SI sessions 'cause they do help build good study habits, especially if you're an incoming freshman. Hangout at the cafe, meet some new people, and remember to leave enough time in between your classes to get there on time and to get a bite to eat.
Bang for the buck Price will always be a hassle at any college. However, there are plenty of places you could find a job at or near the campus. In most cases, you will get help from financial aid at UTSA. UTSA is specifically a Hispanic serving university. So, if you're of Hispanic descent you're in luck!
Am enjoying being here The campus is not half bad. UTSA is still expanding and building new buildings for students and faculty. The people are friendly here, and there's also alot to do! The campus is literally across the highway from a large mall, Six Flags, and Seaworld. So when you have time to spare you can go across the street and there's always something to do. Not to mention downtown is only 15-20 minutes away!
Am learning a lot Most of the professors here seem to really care about their students. Classes are fairly easy, and even if you end up in a difficult class there will more than likely be curves and extra credit added. Professors do not want to see you fail here.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who enjoy a fun, safe, and involved community should attend this school. There renovations are fantastic and most of all of the buildings are fresh and new.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. Because UTSA is gaining more publicity, it is going to be harder getting into this institution for years to come.
Bang for the buck For the quality of education you receive at this institution, it is fair to say that it is a relatively cheap education. UTSA shows that you can afford a great education.
Am enjoying being here This institution is wonderful. The environment is very clean and both the students and faculty take their jobs seriously. The campus is relatively safe as well, the local police force does well to patrol the area often.
Am learning a lot I find that the of education provided here is of high quality.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is a great school for those who want to learn. Learning at UTSA is easy as long as students participate.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of assignments and do not procrastinate! Use all the resources the professors give to you as well as the library.
Bang for the buck If you receive financial aid, good. tuition is usually $3000 to $5000 per semester depending how many classes you are taking. The university offers scholarships and holds contests at the beginning of the semester for free books!
Am enjoying being here The learning environment is great! There are small classes available which make it possible to have one-on-one time with professors. The Ta's, advisors, Supplemental Instructors, and professors will give students the resources they need to succeed.
Am learning a lot There are very many subjects students can major in. UTSA has a great learning environment! The Professors are extremely helpful as well the advisors and supplemental instructors. UTSA is a great university which is currently trying to achieve Tier One status and it is clear that it will be soon.

Tips for prospective students Make sure to check out reviews about professors and classes before you enroll in them. Make sure of the library and (SI) Supplemental Instruction sessions. Be involved so you can make lots of friends also.
Bang for the buck UTSA is worth the money.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being at UTSA because it's a good learning environment, the students and professors are very friendly, and the school is on it's way to becoming a Tier 1 school.
Am learning a lot You have an opportunity to learn a lot if you attend classes and are understanding the information the professor is teaching. I learn a lot by taking good notes and making sure I go to (SI) Supplemental Instruction sessions outside of class. There are also many places to go other than the library to study and the school provides many computers for your access.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is great for any student who is searching for a friendly environment and is ready to learn to take steps towards their career goal. Keep in mind that even though it is a university not all the classes are 100+ students, several of my classes cater to about 30 student, which actually makes me feel like a student and not just a number.
Tips for prospective students I feel UTSA is a university everyone must take a look into. There are several different majors to choose from within each college.
Bang for the buck For a University I think UTSA is a deff bang for its buck! For one semester my classes alone was just roughly $4,000. To me that is a great deal! But keep in mind there are other fees that total the tuition up. If you just take advantage of these, like the medical center and the recreational activities, which defiantly make up the 'bang' for your buck. Just looking at the list of what the recreational center offer is amazing, from nutritional cooking classes to zumba classes, I sure cannot wait to join these.
Will enjoy being here I know I will enjoy going to school here. Just while attending the 'RoadRunner Round Up' I already met a couple of cool and exciting friends! The environment was more than I expected. I thought that I was just going to be a number, but now I feel like a true RoadRunner!
Will learn a lot Just by going to the orientation I felt I learned a ton! Everyone was super helpful. At first I was nervous, being that it is a bigger school, I was going to get lost and not find my way. Now I feel way more comfortable. My adviser was super sweet, and you can honestly tell she wants you to succeed and enjoy your time at UTSA.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is a great school for students seeking a bachelor's degree from a local university but wish to attend a Tier 1 graduate school. Students graduating Cum Laude or higher often have aspirations of attending the University of Texas at Austin's graduate school. Many students use UTSA as a springboard for more schooling in the northeast (especially those pursuing careers in Law). It offers lots of opportunities for campus life, but it's not atypical of an average university. Overall, UTSA has a decent amount of activities, events and clubs in which social students will prosper. Academic students are the most prominent around campus, since they dominate classrooms as star pupils, TAs and SIs (Section Instructors). UTSA has a moderately-competitive academic atmosphere, but it becomes increasingly rough as less-studious people are dropped due to low GPAs. The Honors College is barely visible around the school but honors clubs are important figures in the university social structure. Students looking for a degree close to home, in this case Central Texas, will always feel at home at UTSA. As the college grows larger, UTSA will become more than a regional university and instead a nationally-recognized institution. However, that day is far away and for now the type of student seeking a good education close to home will feel the most comfortable.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should not underestimate UTSA's academics. The school places people with GPAs below a 2.0 on probationary status. If no improvement has been made after a semester of being on academic probation, the student will get kicked out. This happens to a lot of freshmen; don't think it won't happen to you, because it can. Students often feel lonely at UTSA since clubs don't always flaunt themselves to incoming freshman. Go out there and be active in the community! If you can't afford to drive back and forth to campus, consider living on campus for a while. It's the best way to make new friends and become well-known around school. Also, avoid taking 12 hours every semester. UTSA's freshmen advisers encourage students to do this, but it's only supposed to be for your first semester. Take 15 hours during your spring semester. Taking 12 hours for every semester will result in a 5-year degree instead of the expected 4.
Bang for the buck UTSA is a public school; that in and of itself means that the school gets significant funding from the State of Texas to lower tuition rates and provide very cheap services. Students have access to an award-winning recreational facility (dubbed The Rec), select free medical services, sprawling soccer fields, computer labs, and conference rooms. Tuition rates at UTSA are some of the lowest among 4-year colleges in the United States; admittedly, however, this is due in part to San Antonio's low inflation rate. It's a pain for me to have to dish out the kind of money required to attend a large tertiary institution like UTSA every semester, but it's well worth the cost. The university runs a large financial aid department which works with individuals (through counselors) to pay for the rather hefty bill any respectable college requires. I've been to their fiscal services and financial aid offices, both of which are bustling with people who are paid by the State of Texas to help you fund your college education. UTSA's professors accept relatively low salaries, so many are not top-level lecturers like you will find at Ivy League universities. Yet, most are truly dedicated to their discipline (from Anthropology to Astronomy), if inexperienced. It's not a question of how many services the university offers to its student body, but whether or not one can afford to pay what a respectable post-secondary school demands. UTSA works with you, sure, but it's important to realize that they can only go so far to help students finance their college years. If you can afford to attend UTSA, the price will be well worth its pain.
Am enjoying being here The University of Texas at San Antonio is a developing university, and its student body really does reflect that. UTSA has over 30,000 undergraduates and graduates, but you would never feel it. Most students come and go as they please, many having not ever engaged the school's clubs, fraternities, festivals or events. This has lead to the college being pejoratively labeled a commuter school by some. However, UTSA has an amazing and fun social scene if you are willing to stick around after classes are done. The student leaders put on an annual BestFest in commemoration of Dia de Los Muertos in the fall and Fiesta UTSA during the spring semester. Lots of students gather around at these times to take a break from the stresses of college life and enjoy the campus. Students are encouraged to check out these events during Freshman Orientation (which everyone must attend). Some newer traditions include the annual Party at the Paseo, which takes place during Fiesta, and Roadrunner Days. I personally enjoy every minute I'm at UTSA. Being involved in several clubs, such as Student Government, the Young Democrats, Green Society, French Club, Soccer and Theatre Club has only strengthened my ties to the school. Just putting yourself out there will garner so many organizations who would love to have you as their newest member. If you can motivate yourself to move to club meetings after class, you'll be welcome at UTSA's campus. It's very fun, albeit challenging at times, since so many potential members do not care for extracurricular involvement. I enjoy being involved in the scene, but it's obviously not for everyone.
Am learning a lot Striking up a conversation with strangers about the University of Texas at San Antonio yields mixed results around the city. A common perception of some uninformed people is that UTSA is little better than a community college for San Antonio's north side. Unfortunately, that couldn't be farther from the truth. UTSA has begun seeking status as one of Texas' premiere universities, although much work still needs to be done. As such, its academics have followed suit. Professors encourage students to come to class every day, warning that those who do not rarely pass let alone achieve decent grades. Instructors often utilize the John Peace Library and various other systems around school (such as the computer labs, distance learning technologies and campus events) to engage student learning. Unfortunately, as a disadvantage to both the university and some unmotivated students, studying is often self-taught. Other pupils are often reluctant to form study groups or tutor anyone who isn't their friend. That being said, the professors are usually very friendly and willingly to work with whoever comes to their office hours. Overall, you will learn a lot at UTSA so long as you can do things on your own. Students and professors sometimes do reach out to help. I'm sure that, over time, the school will develop a much closer academic community.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who enjoy easier curriculum and need to attend a cheaper university.
Tips for prospective students Arrive early and be prepared to wait for a parking spot. Make time to study and work extra homework problems since some teachers just read from the books.
Bang for the buck To be fair, I believe most colleges/universities in general are overpriced. UTSA is one of the less expensive universities, but the overcrowding affects the quality of the education.
Am enjoying being here Just a standard university. Compared to my previously attended university- University of Texas at Dallas- the appearance and building layout isn't as nice. The parking at UTSA is pretty bad, and there is definitely an overcrowding issue.
Am learning a lot Teachers were friendly, but some of them didn't put much effort into teaching. Some teachers would merely read from the textbook.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus is extremely safe. security guards patrol the campus at night, and there are strategically placed security phones around campus that allow you to call for an escort if you do feel unsafe. i have frequently wandered around campus during the wee hours of the night by myself and never felt unsafe.
Greek Life there are many fraternities and sororities on campus that are actively involved in campus life, community service, and which, of course, serve that all-important function of hosting university parties. i wasn't very involved in greek life, but i know that it existed at utsa. that being said, it's a pretty easy scene to avoid if you don't care for it, and utsa didn't seem to have any major problems with fraternities or sororities like i've seen at other schools.
Clubs and Activities there are a lot of clubs and activities on campus (more than you could actually ever participate in). not all are very active, but many are. even if you don't belong to a student club or organization, there are still a lot of events on campus throughout the year, including best fest (which takes place in the spring), sustainability day, earth week, sports games, etc. it's pretty easy to start your own club, too, if you want to do so. there are many fraternities and sororities on campus, several honors societies, many major-specific clubs, some environmental groups, a community service organization or two, and an lgbtq group, among many others.
Great for these types of students great for students in the sciences, mathematics, social work, and public service. also great for students in classics and philosophy who can't afford to go out-of-state. great for students who can sniff out opportunities and run with them. great for students who want to be important contributing members of the student body.
Bang for the buck utsa is the best university in san antonio in terms of the value it provides for its money. the private universities, while quite good, charge high tuition rates and often employ the same professors who work at utsa. utsa provides a decent education and an accredited college degree for less money than most other institutions. it also provides a lot of great services for its students, too, including work-out facilities and academic counseling.
What to do for fun a lot of the more exciting options in san antonio are downtown, which requires a fifteen/twenty minute drive from the 1604 campus. (the 1604 campus is the main campus, but there is another utsa campus downtown. i believe that many of the poli-sci and architecture classes take place downtown.) the riverwalk, of course, is a major tourist attraction. it can be a bit expensive, but it's a lovely place to visit, especially if you've never seen it before. during the winter holiday season, the riverwalk is lined with lots of beautiful lights, and it is dyed green for st. patrick's day. it's a pretty festive area with lots of great bars, restaurants, and shopping opportunities. first friday (an event which, appropriately enough, occurs on the first friday of the month) is an opportunity to go downtown to look at various art and music events and, of course, bar-hop. san antonio has a city orchestra which plays on a somewhat regular basis throughout the year, and various theaters offer chances to watch plays and musicals. there are three alamo drafthouses in san antonio, movie theaters which play a mix of the old and the new and allow you to buy meals and alcohol from waitresses while actually watching the movies. the drafthouses regularly have theme nights, so if you're an anime-nut, a rocky horror picture show fan, or ... well ... any number of other things, you'll like these movie theaters. the arts scene in san antonio is booming, and there are lots of great galleries downtown. the mcnay museum of modern art is also a wonderful place to visit, and it has free admission on thursday afternoons/nights and on the first sunday of the month. the san antonio museum of art is also worth a glance, though not quite as impressive as the mcnay, and it also has times that offer free admission. closer to the 1604 campus are lots of great cafes and a few good bars, including the best jazz bar in san antonio, chango's havana club, and flying saucer, which has the best beer selection in town (hundreds of different kinds). for thrill seekers, the six flags fiesta texas amusement park is really right down the street, as is sea world. san antonio's most famous shopping center, la cantera, is also very close to the 1604 campus. for those who like a little country in their lives, the hill country is a short drive away, featuring lots of lovely towns with various food and agricultural festivals, knitting and quilting events, and general small-town charm. to sum it all up, san antonio might seem a bit more quieter than other major cities at first glance, but there is really quite a lot to do in the city. whether you're interested in sports, the arts, community service, or nights out on the town, there are lots of wonderful options. if you can't find something to do on friday night (or even on wednesday night), you probably just haven't looked hard enough.
Food and Dining there are many dining options on the utsa campus, including the roadrunner cafe (the traditional dining hall) and many food businesses around campus. you can pretty much find anything you're looking for, be that falafel wraps, sushi, pizza, smoothies, salads, breakfast foods, or more. when i first arrived on campus, i was frustrated with the difficulty in finding vegetarian options (even the salads originally often had meat in them), but the dining facilities and the school are very responsive to student feedback, and there are many more veggie options available now. furthermore, students who feel that the dining facilities need improvement are free to join a committee along with dining services staff that seeks to improve student satisfaction. students on the committee have a lot of influence over changes to the dining programs on campus.
Dorm Life i didn't live on campus, but i had friends who did. they seemed to enjoy the experience.
Academic Rigor this really depends on your department. i found that the core curriculum courses were laughably easy and, in many cases, a waste of time. however, my major classes were more rigorous, and some were even quite challenging. if you have money and are looking for an academically rigorous education in the liberal arts, i would suggest looking at other options. that being said, many of the professors (including the liberal arts professors) who work at utsa teach the same classes at private universities in the city, so you'd get the same value for your money at utsa as elsewhere in san antonio.
Tips for prospective students a car or a good bike will make your life much easier. san antonio is difficult to navigate via public transportation. keep your eyes open on campus; there are a lot of wonderful opportunities for students (academic and otherwise) but they aren't always advertised very well. speak to your academic advisor, your professors, your fellow students, and the people in the student activities center to figure out what's going on around campus. academically, expect that core curriculum classes will often be boring but that your major classes will make up for that. i would advise trying to test out (via the clep exam) out of any core curriculum classes that you can. i tested out of four, i believe, which really cut down on the time i had to spend in classes i didn't like.
In three sentences utsa has a diverse student population, a wide range of student services (including an excellent gym facility, complete with cooking courses, personal trainers, and rock-climbing wall), and a rapidly growing academic program with professors from all over the country and abroad. utsa is a great place to be if you want to have an impact on the rest of the student population; there are many student organizations to join, but it is also easy to become a key member (or even the president) of any club in which you're interested. academics are stronger in some fields than others; students in sciences and mathematics will find that the university puts a lot of money and time into those programs, while liberal arts departments are often smaller (though the classics and philosophy professors are absolutely wonderful, as well).

Tips for prospective students to make sure they do all their work and to study hard so they don't fall behind in classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The police are really nice. They want the students to enjoy themselves, but in a safe manner and environment. They are easy to locate because they are everywhere, but it's not overwhelming or anything--all for the safety of the students. I feel safe on campus no matter what time it is or where I'm at.
Greek Life None of the sororities or fraternities own a house because of certain rules and regulation in San Antonio, but that doesn't mean that Greek Life isn't big on the UTSA campus. There's many to choose from, all of which have their own special signature. Greek Week is very fun and active with the whole campus.
Clubs and Activities There are a TON of clubs to pick from so you will definitely find the one that is your fit. Also, there are activities every single week; something is happening every day, just be on the look out for flyers and facebook notifications. Best advice: GO! You never know what kind of people you are going to meet aor what kind of things you are going to experience.
Great for these types of students Great for people who like to have options of things to do that are cheap and close by. Also great for those who love meeting new people and walking everywhere.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UTSA has a lot of school spirit and with this being their first year with a football team, the games get ROWDY!! Also, a lot of people longboard on campus which is really neat. Midday, campus is the place to be Tuesdays through Fridays; there's booths, all kinds of people, and music--students are just having fun and having fellowship.
Bang for the buck Bookstore is overpriced, but what college bookstore isn't? If you apply for your FAFSA and financial aid, UTSA is affordable. BUT you should by your books online or from upperclassmen, not the bookstore!
What to do for fun UTSA is always hosting events on campus such as kareoke, open mic, or movie nights. The best part is that they are almost always FREE! Plus, if you cannot make it to any of those events, there are different organizations passing out flyers and information all week on campus about different events they host.
Food and Dining UTSA has a wide array of choices on campus with two food courts. Also, for those who have a meal plan, the Roadrunner Cafe is a great place with lots of variety. It doesn't get old because there are so many different choices from sushi to burgers or hot wings to stir fry.
Dorm Life The fellow students living in the on-campus place that you choose are all very nice. There are a lot of events within the communitys to promote socializing. Maintenance can be slow some times, but, overall, life on campus is great!
Academic Rigor UTSA classes are nothing that a student can't handle. If you go to class, take notes, turn in assignments, and do at least some studying outside of the classroom, you will do well. No class is a blow off class.
Tips for prospective students Do not be scared to just talk to the person sitting next to you or someone eating by themselves. Take advantage of the facilities that are there for students, such as the library services and advising services. They are there to help you and you are wasting money by not using them.
In three sentences UTSA is incredibly diverse and multi-cultural. It encourages student participation on campus, as well as promoting different things to help students in their studies. It is a very student-friendly environment.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UTSA-PD ensures the students with a sense of safety and security. There is nothing to fear as long as we have our Roadrunner cops.
Greek Life There are a number of fraternities and sororities that are quite active on campus. The majority of them value community service and displaying leadership in our community; taking initiative when no one else can.
Clubs and Activities From athletics to culinary clubs, to social drama to rugby, there are always different groups or activities going on. With more then 200+ clubs, there is bound to be a group or activity for everyone!
Great for these types of students This college is great for everyone! With a vast, divers student population, UTSA is renowned for equipping students with the necessary knowledge of acquiring the major that they want.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Rowdy round up days are specific days set aside where the majority of the school's populations come out for a relaxing, fun, and enjoyable evening. There are always new people to meet with interesting backgrounds and stories. In other words, look forward to those days!
Bang for the buck As for the Bang for the Buck, the value of the tuition is acceptable. you should be able to afford to pay of the first semester with a summer job and work part time during the second semester. The tuition cost is one of the cheapest in the state, due to the fact that its a state run school.
What to do for fun With an outstanding rec center and a six-flags styled lazy river, what more do you really want? Knowing that the membership is included in the tuition, take full advantage of it!
Food and Dining With a state-of-the art salad bar, what more could you really want? There are various assortments of different kinds of food, coming from all cultures and backgrounds. The cafeteria is probably one of my favorite places on campus.
Dorm Life Here, at the University of Texas at San Antonio, the dorms are AMAZING! Compared to other UT schools in the state, I believe that San Antonio has the best student dorms. They are spacious, big, clean, and worth spending time in.
Academic Rigor The University of Texas at San Antonio has an abundant amount of outstanding professors, waiting to assist your needs if you put the time to come to them. Don't assume that the professors will help you out if you never introduce yourself to them.
Tips for prospective students Expect the unexpected. UTSA is located in the busy city of San Antonio. With a growing population, there will always be something new every day.
In three sentences The University of Texas at San Antonio exhibits an outstanding support for school and team spirit. Because the college is situated both on the outskirts (main campus) and downtown (second campus) regions of San Antonio, there are numerous opportunities for participation in various organizations and volunteer. Be Rowdy, Go Runners!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On campus there is this specific place that is designed like the river walk in San Antonio.
What to do for fun On campus activities like go to theater, festivals, and other performances. Also go to fiesta Texas, Seaworld, and Spurs game.
In three sentences This University is awesome with over 200 clubs on campus. One on one tutoring with fellow classmates. Everyone on campus is so nice and friendly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Police officers are always around on campus, usually in the parking lot areas looking for a quick ticket, but they are fair and nice overall. I have always felt safe on campus.
Food and Dining I like going to sit down with friends at the Chili's on campus. We have a Burger King, Panda Express, a couple Starbucks, etc too so there are a good amount of options.
Dorm Life I live at University Oaks. It is currently the closest apartment style living to campus and I am happy with it. The buildings are older than surrounding properties, but it's a better price, offers an on-campus living experience like having RA's, and is overall a nice place to live.
Academic Rigor UTSA academics are, in my opinion, ....decent. I think you get a pretty good education in general and in some classes it comes easier than others. Some classes can be quite difficult while others are a breeze.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are a LOT of things to do on campus, ranging from classes at the Rec Center to Poetry Slams and Movies showing every weekend. You will have a lot of fun here. :)
Food and Dining The Roadrunner Cafe had a pretty good selection of food. There's also TWO Starbucks on campus, which both get busy. Don't worry about your food, you'll be okay. :)
Dorm Life On-campus housing isn't that bad. Off-campus housing is awesome. All the RAs are very nice, and the prices aren't that bad.
Academic Rigor The core classes aren't very challenging if you work hard at it. Don't slack off and you'll do well.
Tips for prospective students Do not put off your application for scholarships. Don't room with your best friend. Don't room in University Oaks. Don't be afraid to ask for help; there's a lot of tutoring available on campus. Join a club, sorority, or fraternity.
In three sentences UTSA is a pretty good place to start off. The classes are challenging, the food choices are many, and the people are very friendly. Commuter students, beware - parking is very hard to come by.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel so much safer living on campus rather than outside of campus.
Greek Life I am not in greek life. But from what I hear, it makes me want to join. I might even join one next year.
Clubs and Activities Join Them! You won't regret it!
What to do for fun Go to the football games. They are so much fun! Just be active and trust me, you will never bored. You will have a blast! If you live in Laurel or Chaparral, you can go take a swim at the pool at Chaparral Village or if you live in Chisholm Hall, they have an indoor pool which honestly is cool. The Recreation Center is another place where you can go to have fun or many even work out.
Food and Dining The meal plan is a great way to save up on money. It provides breakfast, lunch and dinner. They even give you dining dollars which allows you to use you utsa card to pay at places on campus like Chick-Fil-A, Subway, Panda Express and more!
Dorm Life Dorm life is the best. There are four different places on campus where you can stay. You literally have everything you possibly need there. You don't have to worry about paying for laundry if you live in Laurel or Chaparral. I'm not to sure about the other two.
Academic Rigor If you have a small class with maybe 20 students, you and your professor will have a great connection. Even if you have a class of 300, don't hesistate to talk to your professors.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you give yourself a break every once in a while. Studying is good but too much of it can burn you out. Go out and get a coffe with a friend, or maybe go play some basketball. Find ways to give yourself a little time. You don't want to stress out! Studying in groups is a great way to learn and meet new people. Be active around campus.
In three sentences The university has two beautiful campuses that contain many opportunities to advance your knowledge and skills. It is very diverse which allows you to interact with people from all around. You can be very involved on campus with the many different organizations, clubs, and activities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety decent. police dont really litter the campus but there are a few and the dorm rooms have to be accessed with your id so no one can really pick your lock
Greek Life you could go here all four years and not even realize there are any
Great for these types of students people not looking for the college experience. someone who wants the junior college feel but to live on a university campus. or someone not wanting to get too far from home
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus none
Bang for the buck a year in state in about 16,000 with housing and meal plan. Then add books. pretty sure you could get better quality at the same price somewhere else but then again in depends on the classes you take
What to do for fun LEAVE!
Food and Dining cafe had variety and theres other fast food choices but it does get old after a while
Dorm Life there are choices between dorm style. theyre clean for the most part but still pretty boring and theres a pretty good walk between the dorms were everything else is
Academic Rigor There's hardly ever any homework and when there is it isn't anything major and so far test are mostly multiple choice
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for the whole college experience this is not the school. You'll be miserable if you don't have a car to leave town. The education is average but for the same level of education and about the same price you could probably get in somewhere better.
In three sentences The school is like junior college for university price. The education is decent but definitely not above average. Student life is very dull especially if you don't have a car.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The UTSA police are masters at delivering speeding tickets to humble students going 2 over the limit.
Greek Life The Greek life is a joke. There aren't any houses on campus because they are not allowed. The houses are off campus in apartments. Exciting right?
Bang for the buck I don't know if it's worth being bored out of your mind here just to get your pre reqs out of the way, or to spend the extra cash for a FUN first year of college. If you're the outgoing type, this college is NOT for you!
Food and Dining The food here is exceptional. If you have a meal plan, it's very nice. There is quite a variety for a salad bar, and the stir fry grill is fantastic. They make omelets, sandwiches, and breakfast all day.
Dorm Life There's a dorm life?
Academic Rigor The classes here are a joke. I'm a current freshman here and my God, I don't think I've ever had an easier selection of classes in my life. My biology class is moderately difficult; it's about as difficult as an AP class. Professors add extra credit to tests and even drop the lowest test.
In three sentences UTSA is horrid. I live on campus at the University Oaks where there is literally no campus life at all. Coming from Austin, I was used to having 6th street and parties everywhere at UT Austin. San Antonio in general is for an older crowd, it is definitely NOT a college town. I've been counting down the days until the last day of school. Most CAP students like me go to Austin on the weekends since the campus is dead. Do yourself a favor and go to Texas State, or even Texas Tech. Oh, I don't want to sound stuck up or vulgar, but it seems like they've taken the ugliest girls in the state of Texas and threw them all into one school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is great for all types of students! UTSA is primarily a commuter university, but there are also plenty of dorms (ranging from traditional halls to apartment-style dorms) available to those who would prefer to live on campus. With all the clubs and groups to join, you'll surely find at least one, if not more, that you'd love to become a part of.
Tips for prospective students If you are seriously considering attending UTSA, don't let the cost of tuition deter your choice. There are many scholarship opportunities offered here. Make sure to check the UTSA website frequently and stay up-to-date on these opportunities available.
Bang for the buck There are annoying fees you must pay just like every other college/university out there. But! by paying these fees and attending UTSA, you get to enjoy all the great services this university offers. There are many services UTSA offers, such as counseling (both academic and emotional), tutoring, recreational, transportation, health, and food services just to name a few.
Am enjoying being here There are nearly 30,000 people attending UTSA. It's not too big or too small. To help you meet new people and get involved, UTSA hosts lots of events throughout the year. There are also tons of clubs to join ranging from academic to sports to volunteering to sororities and fraternities. The campus life here is very active!
Am learning a lot UTSA has many, many great professors here! These professors really know their stuff and want you to be successful in their class as well as in life in general. The professors make themselves available to you to answer any questions you may have via office hours. I have learned so much being here at UTSA

Tips for prospective students Many colleges aren't always friendly but UTSA's staff is.
Bang for the buck Colleges are always expensive but UTSA offers many different scholarships and will let you sit down will their financial officers which will help you the best they can.
Will enjoy being here UTSA has something for everyone, there are many different activities for everyone. The campus has many group activities and gets the school into UTSA spirit.
Will learn a lot I visited UTSA thinking it would be too big and i wouldn't like it, but I learned the student to teacher ratio is not as big as I thought. The environment is studious.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UTSA is great for students who want to experience the life of being at a BIG university, but also want the closeness to be more than a student ID number. If you like to have fun, meet people. experience the city while also getting a great education. UTSA is the place for you.
Tips for prospective students Come to UTSA with an opened mind and be ready to interact with people. There are many different cultures, groups, and types of people at UTSA. So the more you can learn about other peoples way of life, the more liked and rounded you will be.
Bang for the buck UTSA is a great campus and is very affordable to Texas residents. You get access to some of the best recreational, eating, and living facilities in the state for a very reasonable price. Prices are starting to increase because of football, but compared to other colleges, UTSA is definitely running ahead of the pack
Am enjoying being here I love being enrolled at the University of Texas at San Antonio! As a Roadrunner football player, there is no better feeling than walking out and representing the Orange and Blue. Our campus is big and its growing more and more every year. The people truly make you feel at home, and with our recent overall success the campus has been rolling with Roadrunner pride! The campus is beautiful and we have top of the line facilities. The student housing are not like your average dorms. They are like miniature houses. The food is great and President Romo is not only the president of the university, but he is a friend to his students and faculty. Go Runners!
Am learning a lot Iv been at UTSA for one semester and my mind has blown from all the information that I learned. Not only did I learn my lessons from my professors, but I learned how to be a good student! UTSA has outstanding professors who honestly care about your success. The only thing stopping you from learning at UTSA is you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone. I'm a transfer student coming from another university which was a particularly bad experience for me. Just being at UTSA for a day brightened my spirits and gave me hope. =)
Tips for prospective students This place is wonderful. Not too intimidating, the town surrounding it is FULL of things to do, you'll never be bored, and everyone is incredibly friendly!
Bang for the buck Seems like a great price for all the great amazing things your getting at the university. Housing is a little bit pricy though... Just take that into consideration.
Will enjoy being here I went for Orientation and I just loved it. The campus is not too big and spread out so you can always find your way around, and not get lost. And my god, there are SO many things to do! When I took the tour, I was AMAZED at the amount of things there are in there. In fact, I even told my boyfriend what there was at UTSA who goes to the college down the road, and he said UTSA had it ALL! Art muesem, indoor pool at chisholm hall, gym has a rockwall, all the places to eat (chilis, subway, starbucks, PLUS more and the dining hall) a ticket master, a frost bank.... Hell, theres even a HAIR SALON in there! Jesus! I'm never gonna have to leave campus! :P
Will learn a lot I have a feeling that I'm gonna get a lot done here. And I read a couple of other reviews and it seems as if they classes are smaller, so thats a plus, because I just can't learn in those huge lecture halls. I learn better in a personal setting with the professor. They even have a class here that I am dying to take, and I'm actually going to take in the fall that is pretty much spot on with my area of interest in my major! So excited to start!

Tips for prospective students Make sure to come visit the campus and see all it has to offer.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for auditory learners. Lectures are primarily spoken, with accompanying Powerpoint presentations depending on the professors.
Tips for prospective students Aim for classes with lower student counts. They have this new chair setup for seating large groups of people in one classroom, and it really doesn't work well.
Bang for the buck The harder classes not only have Teaching Assistants, but Student Instructors as well. It's very helpful if you need a bit of extra instruction for your chemistry class or anything like that.
Am enjoying being here The campus is visually stunning, fresh food is never more than a minute's walk away, and the campus has all sorts of activities, including a small water park and a rock wall.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students No matter your interests, UTSA has a wide variety of clubs and organizations that are advertised all around campus and help any one student or group of students adjust to attending a new school and help to fulfill these individuals' lifestyles. Whether it be a club based on a variety of religions, hobbies, or even organizations for your specific major, UTSA definitely has something for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Work hard on all of your assignments and be sure to study hard as well because some classes administer grades based solely (or mainly) on test grades or essays, so be sure to work hard on those so that you can pass all of your future classes.
Bang for the buck Although tuition is somewhat costly, as is almost every college/university, that is something that can be overlooked because once you attend UTSA, you are sure to enjoy being here. It is a truly amazing school and the tuition price is definitely worth it.
Am enjoying being here Being at a university is a lot more responsiblity and freedom than high school, however, it is also more enjoyable because of the fact that I am attaining a higher education. Just the decision to enroll and attend UTSA has made me grateful that I did because it is a beautiful campus and wonderful institution.
Am learning a lot The methods of teaching at UTSA are of course, effcient, however, because college is a lot more widespread regarding the topic of discussion, all of the course material is deeply detailed. So many new discussions of course material is also new material that I have not learned before and am appreciative of the wide range of offered classes here at UTSA.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Many event fairs are help on campus for prospective students and even current ones to decided if they wish o participate in any organizations or clubs.
Bang for the buck Not too expensive, but worth the cost for the education you receive.
What to do for fun Lots of on campus clubs and sports events. Just acquired a football team this past year.
Food and Dining Two food court areas, could use more healthy options.
Academic Rigor Most professors offer homework as an added grade, many give extra opportunities to make sure you have plenty of ways to maintain the grade you want. I've found the majority of my professors to be very much involved with their classes and students.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus first and get an idea of where the buildings are before making your schedule. This will help with being on time to your classes. The campus is quite large, which is nice, but you only have about ten minutes between each class to find your next one.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus safety is great. there's a lot of police men around, and they have the number to contact the campus police or hospital all around campus and online. you'll even find it in the parking lots. you'll definitely will feel safe at utsa.
Clubs and Activities i haven't joined any clubs on campus because my major takes up the majority of my time, but there are a lot of clubs at utsa to choose from. they have almost anything you could think of. there's a lot of different religious clubs, help clubs, donation to the less fortunate clubs, and race awareness type clubs. there's even a hookah club on campus. so i'll rate a four for all the choices you can make. hopefully you'll find something you'll enjoy.
What to do for fun there really isn't much to do at utsa other then study (at the campus library), go to the rec (gym), or go to the roost (a sort of entertainment center that has video games and pool tables). you'll find quickly that you'll get bored of the campus if you're not hanging out with friends while at either of the three places mentioned.
Food and Dining the food choices at college is great. you have so many options to choose from, and a lot of the fast food places on campus are open late. the only thing that hesitates me into making this a five is the money. food on campus is a lot more expensive then what you think. some fast food places are even more costly then what you would find at the same place off of campus. so make sure you have a lot of money, or bring some home made food to save you're wallet.
Dorm Life i have never lived in a dorm but i have been over to some of my friends. what makes dorm life enjoyable, i've noticed, is the people you live with. if you're roommates are the complete opposite from you, you're not going to have a great time living in a dorm. dorm life could also be miserable or perfect depending on what dorm unit you live in. one section of dorms could be known for their parties and others could be known for banning achoholic drinks. make sure you pick the right dorm unit to live in that mets your needs. so i'll rate dorm life at a three because i truly have no personal experience other then what i have seen.
Academic Rigor it all depends on your major and the classes you are taking that will make school difficult. what is rigorous for one person could not be for another. i'll rate it at a standard three to give some leeway because even through semesters the work load and difficulties change.
Tips for prospective students study hard, and don't procrastinate. if you know a subject you are taking is not one of your best, keep on top of it and ask your fellow students or your professor for help. people at school are a lot nicer then you think. so while you're passing a class you'll make great friends at the same time.
In three sentences utsa is a great university. there's a wide diversity of people, students and teachers alike. you'll find a lot of opportunities here, weather it be with clubs and organizations, meeting new people, or in your studies; utsa is the place to be.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities join chi alpha it will change your life.
What to do for fun everything in san antonio that is fun to do is not walking distance. except for the mall and even that can get old. i say join organizations if you don't want to be bored out of your mind.
Food and Dining there are many options on campus food wise, but if you are looking to saving money i would stick to eating at home. on the up side there are meal plans that ensure you have a meal on a daily basis.
Dorm Life i would recommend living off campus if you want privacy and a decent size place. though it won't be on campus, shuttles do come by to pick you up and the apartments are usually walking distance.
Academic Rigor the academic rigor is alright. it's not as easy as a community collge, but if you do your work you will find that the work is not that hard.
Tips for prospective students check where all your classes are before school starts, it will help with confusion. don't shy away from making friends, they help you.
In three sentences utsa is a nice college, where you get the opportunity to know your professors. it's diverse, friendly, and clean. if i can cahnage one thing it would be no smoking on campus.

Food and Dining there are many convenient dinning options. the roadrunner cafe offers multiple food options in itself, all of which are very delicious. there are also starbucks, subway, chili's, panda express, burger king, smoothie king, chick-fil-a, and a taco cabana. the jpl food court also offers a variety of pre made subs, deserts and salads.
Dorm Life my freshman year i lived on campus at laurrel village and i couldn't be happier with the decision. living on campus provides a sense of community. there are multiple community centers with tvs and pool tables to hang out at. also this particular living location has free laundry rooms.
Academic Rigor the classes and professors do vary but overall they are there to help you. classes aren't very difficult as long as you keep up with your work and study.
Tips for prospective students be aware of deadlines and opportunities. always check your email and blackboard accounts for updates. its good to know people, they can be a great help. on campus housing is a safer bet especially for your first year attending.
In three sentences it has a great sense of community. the professors as well as administrators are readily available and helpful. the campus is not to spread out or to crowded.

Greek Life i'm in 2 fraternities myself. there are many other fraternities around campus, but as a music major i left my concentrations in the music region.
Clubs and Activities a lot clubs, and free food oppurtunities at least once a week at different places around campus.
Great for these types of students engineering students- a new building was made just for them for being so recognized nationally.

Bang for the buck it's pretty expensive, but it is a university. it's actually cheaper than most.

Food and Dining a lot of good places on campus- i always go to subway though.
Dorm Life i got to meet some new people, and i was almost forced to socialize with a lot of people because my roommate and i shared a room. it wasn't terrible, but i would never live in a 'dorm' again.
Academic Rigor some classes don't require attendance which is really helpful for extra study time, however there are more classes that do require attendance.
Tips for prospective students make sure that your major is a well concentrated subject here
In three sentences utsa has many food establishments which make it easier for those busy days. i really do feel safe with the amount of security that i see every day, on foot and in cars. the population is growing a lot, so it's really getting to be enjoyable with so many new people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always campus police officers patrolling around the campus as well as within the campus. The campus police office is located across Laurel Village and there are many emergency call button stations located through the villages and campus.
Clubs and Activities There are various clubs available such as the GLBTQ Club, Anime Club, The Green Society, Bible Club, as well as many ethnic clubs and career applicable clubs. Many clubs involve themselves in community events or host events at UTSA that are open to the general public.
Great for these types of students The school is very diverse and open minded. This would be an excellent choice of school for anyone!
What to do for fun The campus has a gym called the REC where students can go work out or play sports. The REC also has a lazy river and a pool as well as a rock climbing area. They also have a hang out called The Roost where students can get together to play pool and video games. Other options include joining campus clubs and organizations who are readily involved in the community.
Food and Dining There are various restaurants such as Taco Cabana, Chile's, Subway, Burger King, Panda Express, and many more scattered among the campus and they are all within quick distance from each other. There is also the Roadrunner Cafe which is a sort of cafeteria for UTSA students. It provides a buffet style setting with various food choices. A meal plan at Roadrunner Cafe is required with residency at Chaparral and Laural villages.
Dorm Life The dorm life at UTSA is great. The campus provides RA's who are there to help with anything students may need while they reside on campus. The Chaparral and Laurel Villages are set to look like apartments and have separate rooms but have shared bathroom, kitchen area, and living room area. The villages also include several laundry rooms and kitchens for all residents of the village to share. The campus also provides traditional dorm style residency through Chisholm Hall and apartments through University Oaks.
Academic Rigor The classes are detailed and elaborate yet interesting and fulfilling. They are a bit challenging but with studying and determination, satisfactory scores can be achieved.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should definitely take the tours offered before academic semesters start. It will give them an opportunity to explore the campus with ease and they can meet with guidance counselors and advisers. They are also many incoming student scholarships available from the school, so students should be readily applying for these.
In three sentences The University of Texas at San Antonio is a wonderfully diverse and beautiful campus. It offers various programs for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate's as well as many clubs and organizations. It's an excellent school if one is looking for a fresh new outlook on life and school.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The La Cantera mall is right across the street, as well as Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Sea world is only fifteen minutes away and at night is a ton of clubs to go too.
Food and Dining The Cafe next to the dorms are fabulous with a buffet style setup. There is plenty of choices to choose from and delicious desserts set out every day fresh for you to eat. On campus is a ton of varieties of fast food as well as chilis too. There is Starbucks, Subway, Chickfila, Burger King, Panda Express, Taco Cabana, and just about anything else.
Dorm Life The dorms are amazing. They are apartment style so their not your typical dorms; they are much bigger and spacious. All the laundry is free of charge with high efficiency washers and dryers. And the Roadrunner cafe is right next to one of the dorms which is convenient with a good selection of food.
Academic Rigor At UTSA we all strive to do our best, and with free tutors in the library, it helps everyone succeed in all subjects.
Tips for prospective students Go to class, and do your homework!

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the safest campuses in the country is how one describes UTSA. There is constant police presence and the last major security breach hasn't happened! This is thanks to the responsible Police Department on campus.
Greek Life Like the many clubs and activities, there are Frats and Sororities to meet student needs. Unlike the college films, these Greek Houses put academics first.
Clubs and Activities The Clubs and Activities available are literally too numerous to list in less than 300 letters! Any interest you have, there is an organization to match it, and if it doesn't currently exist then you and your 8 friends need to create it. Believe me, there is a club for zombie tag, that's how limitless the activities are at UTSA!
Great for these types of students This university is literally great for all types of students; life is what you make it, the same applies to your college experience! If you are a social, full of school pride, academic concerned, innovative person, then this is your school. The weather is the most random constantly humid type that you will ever experience in Texas but the education and experience are well worth it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus An annual tradition around Fiesta here at UTSA is the Party on the Paseo, offered to educate students of the dangers of alcohol and as an alternative to drunken partying and dangerous activities. An unusual flood of tradition appeared all over campus with the inaugural year of the new football team, the tradition swell expanded during Homecoming week with everything from car smashing (consent given) to pep rallies to bring in that winning attitude.
Bang for the buck UTSA is one of the least expensive universities in San Antonio. As tuition rises, scholarships and grants offered by UTSA can be found through the financial aid office and are easier to find upon completing the FAFSA before April each year. Tuition costs rise as enrollment increases and academic requirements increase as Tier One Status approaches!
What to do for fun The University Center is not just the center of activity on campus, it is also the center of fun on campus! The Roost is available in the UC to meet your gaming needs with PS3, XBOX, Wii, and sports like ping-pong and billiards pool. At night, the UCPC (University Center Program Council) offers free weekly entertainment from live performers to movie showings. The biggest events to look out for are the Casino Night, the BBQ Nights, and Party on the Paseo, because when you miss them, you miss out! CAB is another event offering organization in the UC. For sport fanatics there are official teams to cheer to victory, including but not limited to Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer.
Food and Dining There are many choices offered to meet student preferences, even name brand restaurants like Chili's, Subway, and Chick-fil-a to name a few. Each restaurant is located in specific buildings on campus to offer convenience to bustling students that need food on the go. Let's not forget the Roadrunner Cafe on campus! At the Cafe, students are presented with a large buffet with preferences to include vegetarian needs, students can either use cash to dine or swipe their student IDs to use their meal plan dollars.
Dorm Life Dorm life depends solely on the student's preference. The best dorms offered are Laurel and Chaparral, mostly because they're owned by the university. Third place goes to University Oaks since it is the largest complex on campus and is apartment style, yet it is of less quality of amenities and appliances. Fourth and last is Chisholm Hall, like Oaks it is owned by a separate company, it is dorm style with two people to a room sharing a private bathroom and a community kitchen. The rooms of Chisholm are occupied by coed occupants in each of 4 hallways but only same gender roommates occupy the rooms.
Academic Rigor All courses offered are meant to challenge the students' academic abilities and teach them. There are no free rides in life and the courses offered reflect that, students have to work for their grades.
Tips for prospective students Get involved and stand out. Find the organizations that meet your interests and join them, if you're looking for fun or community service or academic honors, then join those organizations. Stand out in your academics, in your activities, on your beliefs.
In three sentences An open campus in the literal and metaphorical senses. It is diverse like one would not believe; every race, religion, creed, nationality, and orientation attends this school. This is also a currently expanding campus in numbers, academics, and construction.

Food and Dining Yum! The Roadrunner Cafe has lots of variety in their food. It's always good and fresh when you go eat.
Dorm Life I do not stay on campus, but I've seen the dorms on campus and they are very nice. I've heard they have everything they need from a pool to laundry.
Academic Rigor The classes that I have taken were not as hard as I expected my first college classes to be. Many of the teachers I chose my freshman year were very lenient on grading. For instance, they would curve the grades. One of my teacher's even did open note tests, so that was something very unexpected.
Tips for prospective students For incoming students, the first thing I would suggest is that you get familiar with the campus. Not just by knowing to get from place a to b, but actually seeing what is available and knowing who can help you. For everything you need at UTSA there is always someone there to help you out.
In three sentences University of Texas at San Antonio has all the tools you need to succeed. Categories Comments Campus Safety Security is everywhere. Which is a good feeling, there has never been any altercations or many robberies in my four year stent. And that is saying a lot for a University with over 35,000 students. Go Roadrunners!
Greek Life A lot of fun! Unlike the stereotypical GREEK, here at UTSA, the students in Greek life give back a lot to community and are for the most part great students, and still have a great time!
Clubs and Activities I was the president of Alpha Epsilon Delta (Pre-Med Honor Society). Joining AED was probably the best thing I did while at UTSA. But, as for other clubs; the Greek life has a great presence here and there are many other clubs that are very connected with the student body.
Great for these types of students Open minded, cultural, and studious students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Fountain at the Sombrilla. If you dip in it before your test you will make an A!
Bang for the buck This University is definitely worth every penny. Not only is it one of Texas' fastest growing institutions but they offer a great variety of disciplines to work towards.
What to do for fun Go to any of the tailgating events for our new football team, at the Alamo Dome. You are guaranteed to have a great time! Also, as advice join a university club that interests you, that is a great way to meet great people!
Food and Dining As a freshman I loved the Rowdy Cafe. A great option of food with an at home feel. They also have Chic-fil-A, Subway, Panda Express, and Taco Cabana. Oh, and lets not forget Starbucks and Einsteins Bagles!
Dorm Life All the dorms are nice except Chisolm Hall. Make sure you sign up for on campus early and choose the nice residential halls (Laurel, Chapparel Village, or the almost completed new dorm).
Academic Rigor Clearly dependent on which major you pursue, but I can speak first hand for the College of Science. It is no walk in the park!
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get to know your professors. They can really help you out in the future. Plus, they are the teacher so if you learn the subject matter how they know it you will for sure get an A!

What to do for fun For fun, their is the recreational center, student events, and a small movie theater for those who are staying at Chisholm Hall.

Academic Rigor The college is very strict about poor academic grades, if not meet the standard, you can be on probation. Probation can lead to academic suspension and will be bad for applying for jobs. Having a college that is strict is good because they care about student's futures and success.
Tips for prospective students Always study for your classes, never slack off, and never procrastinate. If you need help, always ask a teacher for help. Studying for your classes prepares you for pop quiz's and tests. Knowing the materials for the class helps allow you to standout towards your professor and allows come in handy for a letter of recommendation letter. Slacking off in class will not lead you to success, always stay on your task and have priority's straighten out. Procrastination will lead you to stress and may not complete your goals. Categories Comments Campus Safety There are posts everywhere with a button to press in case of an emergency. Campus police are everywhere at all times. I cannot recall one day I did not see them on campus. The system is so concerned with safety, that one night after studying in the library, I pressed the little button on the post and was escorted to my car by the cop.
Clubs and Activities UTSA offer the majority of Greek societies, religious groups, political, academic, professional, and co-ed business fraternities. Not to mention the honor societies that allow the academic outstanding students to network with other students with similar qualities
Great for these types of students For the everyday student. It symbolizes that the prestige of going off to college can be just as great here at home. UTSA is known for being a school to commuters. A student, most of the time, will live at home, hold a full or part-time job and drive to school.
Bang for the buck As a student we are allowed access to all the museums in town. Other than that, I will always think that books are overpriced, parking permits are overpriced, and cafeteria food is slowly getting to the same range.
What to do for fun They offer open mic night, football games, all sporting events, student organizations and free movie nights.
Food and Dining On campus consist of : Chili's, subway, Starbucks, panda express, burger-king, chik-fil-a, smoothie king, sushi, and many more popular choices.
Dorm Life I lived in the apartments. In my opinion it is too overpriced for a student.
Academic Rigor Accounting is a rigorous major. In the end pays off, shows consistency, dedication, critical-skill thinking skills and above all, everyone needs an accountant.

In three sentences The College of Business provides many valuable resources. Through their Career Development Center, I learned how to properly interview, write a resume and network with business professionals. They are all about the students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are campus police around often and I've never had a problem or felt unsafe on campus. The campus police officers patrol the campus in cars and on foot. They are friendly and never rude.
Greek Life Greek life is present but not dominant on campus. Occasionally, they will hold barbeque's or sales near the main cafeteria but they don't bother anyone at all.
Clubs and Activities There are numerous clubs and activities available on campus for everyone, you just have to look.
Great for these types of students Students who won't mess around too much during their college careers are great. They stay focused when necessary and don't spend money frivolously.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The couches in the arts building are probably one of the best places on campus to go between classes. If you need a nap, best place. Also, there's an art gallery near the music wing of the building. It's incredibly interesting. The roost, where the video games and billiards are held, is fun to go with friends to relax on campus for free.
Bang for the buck The tuition is rising but it's still decent compared to other Universities. The scholarship opportunities and grants given are pretty fantastic.
What to do for fun Check out the recreation center for working out or other fun classes. They offer yoga, ballet, racquetball, ultimate frisbee, and a lot more. On top of it, there are daily postings for free events on campus. If possible, go to best fest on campus. It's one of the best festivals hosted on campus all year.
Food and Dining Great choices but the prices are a bit high.
Dorm Life Dorms are fun but do make it rather difficult to stay focused when studying. Also, traveling from the dorms to class can be horrible during rain.
Academic Rigor Classes can be difficult but if you study lightly to moderately, you'll do well in all of them. However, don't take on too many classes at one time.
Tips for prospective students Don't take classes too lightly, even if they are low level courses and never skip class. Professors can have pop quizzes and attendance can lower your grade. Stay focused the who semester.
In three sentences The lecture classes, which are the majority of required classes, are not structured to fit students but merely to fill the requirement. Often, professors cannot be reached but are quite responsive when a student takes initiative and talks to them first. Classes are not incredibly difficult but not too easy making this school average for normal college students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always UTSA PD on patrol and their only goal here is to make sure students that students are safe. They handle all complaints in a swift and professional manner
Clubs and Activities The Campus Activities Board (CAB) at the University of Texas at San Antonio is a student-led organization funded by student fees which serves as the largest and premier student program board on campus with the mission to foster and build traditions and community through campus-wide programs, activities, and special events. Everything from art clubs to club sports are offered!
Food and Dining Aside from our wonderful cafe hall that serves all kids of cuisines (from vegetarian, to oriental, Mexican, and typical American) there are many on campus restaurants splattered here throughout UTSA. Even if you are away from the main dining hall, each building has some sort of food establishment there- not to mention we have 3 Starbucks ands, 2 Subways, and a Chili's all on campus.
Dorm Life Although I never lived in a dorm, the dorms here are better than many of that of larger universities. Currently, there is one student 'standard' dormitory, 2 suite style dorms, and an on campus apartment. The Residents Assistants here are really nice and provide several activities throughout the year to meet new people and eat free food!
Academic Rigor The education here is great! The professors here really will help you if you show some effort to learn.
Tips for prospective students I would apply for scholarships early! Many students here receive financial aid so apply before all the money is gone!
In three sentences UTSA is truly a hidden gem in the South; it is known for its Business, Engineering, and Pre-Physical Therapy degree programs. Aside from that, the campus is located in the heart of city so transportation around San Antonio is a breeze-in fact, UTSA even offers free shuttle services to local stores! In all, this college has a budding educational sector and really caters to their students needs.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are several police officers on duty spread out through the campus that make sure the university is safe.
Bang for the buck The university is well worth the price of tuition and there are many scholarships to enter to help pay for your education. The professors are wonderful at what they do and there is a lot of support in helping the students do their very best. It is well worth the price of admission.
What to do for fun There are many fun activities to do for fun here. For instance, the recreation center is a great place to exercise and meet other people. There are also several clubs and organizations to join.
Food and Dining The food is delicious here at the university, and there are many places where you can dine, in comforting and friendly environments.
Dorm Life It's very nice to live in the dorms as they are very spacious and you get the opportunity to meet new friends.
Academic Rigor The course work is challenging and there is a lot of reading, but that is to be expected in college. You will learn the most from the professors and be rewarded with so much knowledge.
Tips for prospective students Work hard and have fun. You will very much enjoy coming here and be glad that you did.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Only ever had a parking pass stolen here, pretty safe city.
Great for these types of students Atypical/working students of any age, willing to drive out to the country.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Halloween/day of the dead festing at the JPL is food-filled and costume-laden fun!
What to do for fun Rec offers tons of classes, competitions, intramural sports, outdoor activities, etc. Also check out the numerous state parks for hiking/trails/biking!
Food and Dining Sorry, bad food options for vegetarians, and due to isolated rural location and parking, better off bringing your lunch and just getting coffee on campus.
Academic Rigor If you want to be challenged, you certainly have the option, particularly in the anthropology department!
Tips for prospective students Stack your classes, if possible, parking is a nightmare, and don't live near campus--it is VERY rural out there (you cannot even walk to a corner store) and the apartment complexes nearby rip-off students. Also, take advantage of all that your fees pay for, including the rec and the tutoring canter!
In three sentences UTSA is not a typical university in the best sense: most students work and most professors here understand life circumstances. You truly get what you put in, by that I mean if you work hard and push yourself to go above and beyond in classes, you will gain a well rounded education from highly respected professors of various disciplines.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Excellent security, constant patrol, and located in a part of town that is not heavily populated except for students.
Greek Life I am not involved in fraternities, but there are a number to choose from.
Clubs and Activities There are many!
Great for these types of students Any and all.
Bang for the buck The bang for the buck at UTSA is stellar. Consider its sister school in Austin at which the tuition is almost double. A complete four-year education at UTSA is one of the best investments one can make in that it will not drown you in loan debt.
What to do for fun There are no end to the activities offered by many campus communities and organizations: sports events, a nice gym to work out, pool, excellent jogging grounds, etc.
Food and Dining Many food choices from sushi to burgers. There is a Starbucks on campus for you coffee lovers.
Dorm Life This is not applicable to me as I have not lived int he dorms, but I do know that the majority of dorms are very new and the one old dorm was completely remodeled in 2005.
Tips for prospective students The main campus of UTSA is quite large and spread out. I would recommend visiting the campus often to determine a few factors: where your classes are, where you would most prefer to park, which classes at which campuses will work best for your time frame or job if you maintain one while in school. Basically, become very familiar with the campus before you begin the semester.
In three sentences The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is a top quality school that is rapidly expanding; both the physical campus and dormitories as well as the available majors across the disciplines are growing. UTSA has quite a few labs with excellent modern equipment that they keep well updated and manned with attendants to assist its students. The size of San Antonio is well balanced by the number and locations of UTSA campuses which make it a very commuter-friendly school and because of this, it has a very comfortable local university feel while remaining as socially and culturally diverse as most big universities are.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are many clubs that you can join on campus and off I think it would be a great idea to join, its a great way to meet people and be active in the school system it always looks good on resumes and applications for schooling.
Food and Dining I liked the food on campus and at the cafe off campus, there are many different options, it doesn't ever really get old.
Dorm Life I did not live in a dorm but I did live in an apartment associated with UTSA, I loved living there for the most part my roommates were awesome.
Academic Rigor I do not think that school is to rigorous as long as you stay on top of your work and focus on school. I know that's hard but it is very important, especially in your first year, this way you can get a fill of how school will be; and so you don't fail out or get on academic probation.
Tips for prospective students I would advise that you learn the places that you need to go before school starts, just get familiar with the school and somewhat know your way around.
In three sentences I loved the campus, I came from a small town and the campus was not to big but not to small. Its very clean and just an overall great place to be to get an education. I also like that there is so many options of eating and drinking on campus so I don't have to go home.

Great for these types of students Fast paced, extroverted, ready to learn students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I am unsure.
Bang for the buck After you recover after tuition, books and especially fees, the bang is then worth the buck.
What to do for fun The campus has lots of free student activities like movie nights, comedy shows, etc. A lot of activities are even sponsored by teachers and can earn you extra credit!
Food and Dining Food is good, especially because they have different companies there. For example, Chik-fil-a, starbucks, subway, etc.
Dorm Life I have not stayed in the dorms so I am not sure what to write about this.
Academic Rigor Academics here are very rigorous and can be difficult at times, as it should be!
Tips for prospective students Be sure to apply for financial aid as soon as you can each year. UTSA offers first come, first served school grants based on your FAFSA submission date. Talk to your advisor all the time and every change you get. This will save you time and money if you are signing up for things and you actually don't need them.
In three sentences UTSA is a great school but, like a typical college, is a bit expensive. The campus is very nice but the worse thing is parking. The teachers are great and informative, when needed, and the staff is helpful, if you ask the right questions.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The school is too young and not established enough for traditions.
What to do for fun Six Flags is right across the street from campus as well as the mall. Otherwise, hanging out with friends by the pool is the only thing to do to have fun.
Food and Dining Luckily the area that UTSA is located is very nice and is more like the higher end of San Antonio. The mall (La Cantera) and the Rim, have every kind of food you could think of along with upscale restaurants. On campus dining is good as well because the Roadrunner Cafe (the dorm cafeteria) has really good food but ther are many chain restaurants located on campus as well.
Dorm Life Dorms at UTSA are very nice compared to most other universities. Chaperal and Laural are newer, they're not like traditional dorms, they're more of a suite style dorm with individual rooms, living room, and you a shared bathroom by one other room mate. Chisom Hall is where the tradtional dorms are with one room, two beds, one bathroom kind of thing.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes are a lot of work but time management is key as with any other school. Depending on the professor and class, some barely have homework.
Tips for prospective students The experience is what you make of it. I know more people who love it than hate it.
In three sentences The school has a nice campus but always seems to be under construction. It was a nice school but I sometimes felt I was still in high school because of how other students acted. Some professors used the plus/minus grading system and some didn't, which I found to be unfair.

Great for these types of students For new students, there are organizations that cater to new students and help with the ease of moving from home to being on their own.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some unusual traditions include Best Fest, and homecoming traditions. All of the traditions give so many people together and create a feeling of togetherness.
Bang for the buck I would say most on campus locations, as well as some off campus locations, offer students a great deal. Some of these places include restaurants, movie theaters, and more.
What to do for fun There are a lot of activities to do on and around campus. There are events that range from athletic events, to free movie events, to social events. These events also offer students the opportunity to meet new friends and new organizations.
Food and Dining There are many restaurants that offer every student a variety of places to eat. There are places on campus, as well as around campus that give each student a chance to try something different every day.
Dorm Life the dorm life on campus is great. the dorms are located on campus, so the walk from one's room to classes are about five minutes. The dorms offer a sense of independence, and give each student a chance to meet new people.
Academic Rigor some courses can be hard to understand, but as long as the students study and keep on task with their course work, they are able to keep up with their classes and pass with good grades.
Tips for prospective students there are a lot of organizations that offer students the chance of meeting new people on campus. These organizations also give students the opportunity to learn more about the university that they are attending, thus giving them the chance to become more comfortable. Some of these organizations are mentor/mentee groups which match the student with an upper level student that shows the student the ropes of UTSA and to give them a sense of belonging.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is kind of like its own town. Everything you need is on campus. So there are a lot of outside people that walk the campus. But i f you have a late class or just need protection there is campus security that will escort you to class or your dorm.
Greek Life There is a wide number of sororities ad fraternities. However is you want to do more there are different groups that are know like the greeks and they also throw parties and host functions.
Clubs and Activities There are dozens of clubs and UTSA is constantly hosting different RoadRunner activities to meet new people and going new clubs and groups.
Great for these types of students The university is such a diverse place that it is really perfect for ANY type of student. There is literally something for EVERYONE.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There. Are two Road Runner camps where the students (mainly freshmans) learn about the campuses organizations and get to meet other students.
Bang for the buck The university is a little expensive but its completely worth it. There is plenty of financial aid opportunities. Plus the university is a place where you can discover yourself more, make memories, make friends, learn great information about your future life style.
What to do for fun There are a lot of activities. There are sororities and fraternities. But if that's not really your 'thing' they have different clubs and school related functions for students to have fun and meet new friends.
Food and Dining There are a lot of different food options. Either you can choose the normal cafe food or choose between the different food places on campus. Either way, you have options to choose whats right for you.
Dorm Life Dorm life is really exciting. It gives you the freedom you need to be mature and learn responsibility. Also, it is a great way to meet friends and be able to hang out outside of class.
Academic Rigor Academically, it is tough. It goes at a quick spped. However if you feel like you cant keep up there are free tutoring programs that you can sign up for. Also there are professors who will take time and help you understand the material, outside of class. Greek Life Greek life is big on campus. They offer different race sororities or fraternities, and you don't have to be that certain race to join either! They really convince everyone to rush for them to get more people to join.
Clubs and Activities They have over 200 organizations for any type of person. They have a lot of sororities and fraternities as well as honor society to your specific major. Even if you're into video games, they have that too!
Great for these types of students The university is honestly great for anyone and everyone. It's not too big of a campus to where you get lost and not too small to where it takes 2 minutes to walk from one end to the other. It has many organizations for you to join.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We recently just got our own football team and everyone walks around with Roadrunner pride and spirit. It makes everyone closer together when we are pumped with school spirit.
Bang for the buck For what we pay at UTSA, I think we get a lot out of it! they have a lot to offer and is still growing! The population is steadily increasing as the years go by, which means they have to increase the professors, classes, and computer labs. And they are doing just that!
What to do for fun A lot of organizations plan events on campus through out the week and even weekends for those who live on campus in particular. I think it's fun to attend some of these to see what it's like and to meet new crowds. They also do movie nights on Friday and Saturday! The rec is filled with different classes and activities to try out and do for fun as well. It's a great facility to take advantage of.
Food and Dining The main cafe has a lot of variety and is included in your dorm bill. They have a home cooked meal section for those who tend to miss their mom's cooking which i think is nice. They also offer fruits and vegetables , because everyone needs their nutrients too. Most of the food they make in front of you so it's hot and fresh like the burgers, sandwiches, eggs, and stir fry section. Not only do they have the cafe but they have little fast food chains on campus like Panda express, Chili's, Burger King, and Subway. I think they did a very good job with the variety of it.
Dorm Life Dorm life is excellent! They have plenty of room, and building more, for students to live on campus. You meet lots of neighbors. The cafe is close to everyone and they offer lots of services/assistance with it. The dorm rooms are nice because they are still relatively new.

Greek Life It's alright. There are a lot of options.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of organizations to join.
Great for these types of students Good place for students who don't want a huge or small college. People are also very friendly and classes aren't too big.
Bang for the buck It's worth a try.
What to do for fun They have a rec center for exercising and sports which includes rock climbing. Also they have a room full of video games to go and chill. In the living areas, there is a swimming pool and basketball court.
Food and Dining The roadrunner cafe is an open buffet for students who live on campus. Their are also many other options for food like Burger King and many others that are convenient for in between classes spread throughout campus.
Dorm Life Very small apartment complexes which include either 2 or 4 bedrooms with a restroom that's shared with 1 other person.
Academic Rigor Very fast paced and hard to catch up if you put things off.
Tips for prospective students Attend SI sessions when possible because the SI leaders have taken the class and know what tests look like and what professors expect.
In three sentences It's a good school for those who don't want a college that's too big or too small. The professors are willing to help you with any questions. Assistants called SI leaders help a lot too.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There's all sorts of clubs that you could possibly join. We have so many on campus and they all are awesome. My personal favorite is HSA (Hispanic Student Association). It's one of the most competitive and organized groups on campus. And always have activities for their members and possible new members.
Great for these types of students If you're very out there and love meeting people, UTSA is the place for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We just got our first football team last year, so we don't have many traditions, but we're starting them! Better late than never.
Bang for the buck You do. But that's at any university. At any place that you invest in your future will be beneficiary anywhere.
What to do for fun There's so many things to do. There's the Roost room. Which is like a video game/pool tables room. There's the UCPC & CAB that do all sorts of events almost every day and free. The UCPC shows movies every weekend for free; and they're not old movies, they're pretty recent movie theater ones. There's also a lot of organizations on campus. HSA is one of my personal favorites!
Food and Dining There's the Roadrunner Cafe. The first year you will think that there's so much food and that you can't imagine what to eat today. Your second year, you will get fed up with it and get tired of eating the same thing over and over. the JPL food court is the best one. There's a Subway, a Chick-Fil-A and other food stations. The most popular dining place on campus. Then you have the UC Food Court, which consists of Burger King, Panda Express, Chili's 2Go, and Taco Cabana. Keep in mind we're a Pepsi campus!
Dorm Life I've been living in the dorms for this past 2 years. Both years have been total different experiences, but nonetheless, they have been great! My first year was fun and I became best friends with one of my roommates. This year, they are complete strangers, but we still talk occasionally. Chaparral Village is where you want to live. Laurel Village is close to campus, but it's across the parking lot for the cafe, which is mandatory to have if you live on campus. University Oaks is far from everything. You're not mandated to obtain the cafe meal plan for Oaks nor for Chisholm. But Oaks is way too far anyways. And with Chisholm, you have your traditional dorms. where you share the room and bathroom with them. I prefer privacy, so Chaparral Village was the place for me.
Academic Rigor It's a branch of the University of Texas. It's not UT-Austin, but the classes can be challenging. If you don't study or go to S.I., you will have a hard time. But the professors are always here for you along with their S.I.'s.
Tips for prospective students If you like average sized classes and like to be surrounded mostly by Hispanics, this is the place to come. It's really friendly and everyone fits in.
In three sentences It is a great campus filled with very friendly people. There's so many clubs and organizations that you could join and feel comfortable and at home. This school is different from any other university, it may not have many traditions, but it is pretty awesome.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Police Officers roam campus and are very strict on UTSA policy. There are stations around campus that are blue, and if you ever need help all you have to do is push the button. If you need an escort at night to your home, they will escort you. They notify you when a crime has been committed close to campus. They make sure that you are safe at all times.
Bang for the buck Also doing laundry on campus is free and there is an app to tell you when your laundry is ready. Make sure you get a parking pass because if you park on campus without it, you may receive a ticket.
What to do for fun There is so much to do on campus. UTSA has a game room called The Roost which has video games, pool tables, table tennis, and more. They also show different movies on Friday. You have the REC in which you can work out or take dance lessons. Student Activities also host campus activites such as homecoming. There's also Roadrunner Late Nights on Saturdays so there's alot to do
Food and Dining Roadrunner Cafe serves almost the best food compared to other campuses I visted. There are also other places you can dine at on campus such as panda express and extreme pita which is really good. There are many places to eat at on campus and they are really good.
Dorm Life The dorms are amazing! I was blessed to have wonderful roommates. My RA kept us involved and helped us interact with other students within our building. You have your own privacy. You establish roommate aggreements, so if your roommates agree to guests then you usually can have them anytime you please.
Academic Rigor The hard part is time management because there's so much going on. Avoid distractions and know your professors; they will help you if you seek it. Sit close so you can hear and understand the lecture. The work is very hard if you try to do it last minute, so dont procrastinate.
Tips for prospective students I advise prospective students to embrace the experience of living on campus. Its so much fun and you meet alot of people. You also stay involved and notified by the activitites that are happening on campus. Remember to study and be aware of your grades, so you won't fall behind. JPL library is the place to be if you ever need help. Read your syllabus; it is very important
In three sentences UTSA is an amazing school! The campus is great and very welcoming. They are full of resources that can help you advance and succeed during your college journey.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are many locations on campus to study and just hang out but one of my favorites is located in the Business Building on the third floor there is a door that leads you to an outside balcony that over looks all of San Antonio there is only two tables and limited amount of sitting but its perfect for studying or just opening up a good book.

Dorm Life Dorm life at UTSA is amazing there are so many to choose from and they are all great in their own way. There is Chisum Hall provided for only freshmen and they provide meal services for each of them. There are Chaparral and Lerual Village also for freshmen but other students as well both share a cafe that provides meals for the students and each has a resident advisor to contact in case of an emergency. The last is University Oaks the on campus apartments there are three sections and all include shuttle service to and from campus.
Academic Rigor UTSA is home to some of the best academic professors there is. No professor is a bad one here at UTSA. UTSA is also diverse in so many majors it is tough to decide on just one. UTSA also offers their students so many additional educational resources that one can only wish they had in high school for example the Writing Center, is a place where a student can take an essay or research paper and the people will help you revise and correct you on the mistakes you made.
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would give to prospective student would be to join as many organizations on campus as you can, I believe one will not get the full college experience without them. Another tip I would give is to take advantage of all the resources the University has to offer they will only benefit you in the long run. One last tip I would give to a prospective student would be to be prepared to walk UTSA is a small but big campus and some of your classes may be across the other side of the University and wear comfy shoes too.
In three sentences UTSA is a very beautiful, diverse, and good-sized campus. UTSA offers the best for their students and nothing less. UTSA is home to some of Texas' greatest athletes.

In three sentences UTSA is really affordable for those who want a university and not a university price tag. For me it was a great option because they have the program I want for a more reasonable price than other universities. UTSA was the best option for me and I am looking forward to getting started.
