Categories Comments Great for these types of students proactive, motivated, money-strapped
Tips for prospective students don't buy your texts from the bookstore if money is an issue for you. you can rent most textbooks off of different online sites for waaay cheaper.
Bang for the buck I highly suggest to people who are paying for their own education, to check out whether they can get their intro classes done here. Way more affordable than going straight to a regular university. Just make sure your credits will transfer.
Am enjoying being here There are a lot of resources availiable for students. The one I find invaluable is the math tutoring center, because that is my weak area academically. *I'm reviewing the va beach tcc campus
Am learning a lot If you check out your teachers on ratemyprof, I find you can get the best education for your dollar. The teachers I picked based on good reviews are excellent, and motivate me to learn.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students TCC is great for students that like a laid back college environment. The Virginia Beach campus is close to the beach and to the mall, so there are plenty of places to spend time between classes.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for your classes as quickly as possible, especially chemistry classes because they fill up fast. After you sign up for your classes go straight to financial aid and make sure your classes are covered because this school doesn't play around or go out of their way to help you out unless you ask for it.
Bang for the buck The prices for this school are decent and I love the way financial aid works. Before you go to the bookstore you get a little slip of paper saying how much you have in your financial aid account & what all you can spend it on. I have been enrolled here a full year now and have not spent a penny on my school.
Am enjoying being here I love the area that the Virginia Beach campus is is. It's easy to find & it's just ten miles from the ocean front! The only problem I have had is that one evening my car was broken into in the TCC parking lot, but nothing was stolen.
Am learning a lot So far, all but two of my teachers that I have had were wonderful. If you are majoring in sociology or Microsoft Office I would research your teachers hard before signing up for your classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Tidewater is great for students who want to start off their college year in a small campus in a classroom of twenty or less students. Those that want to get a feel for what college life is about in a small setting before they head to a much bigger college campus.
Bang for the buck Although the textbooks and equipment are expensive for the courses, it is reasonably price depending on one's course of study and situation. Textbooks are cheaper if purchased used.
Am enjoying being here I feel comfortable at Tidewater Community College because I have met an assortment of people whom I have enjoyed being acquainted. My classmates and instructors are friendly.
Am learning a lot I'm majoring in Culinary Arts and learning the many aspects of the food service industry. The textbooks and instructors provide essential information and are both excellent tools of the learning experience. The courses I took last semester contained valuable information as well. All of my instructors are helpful and provide assistance when needed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Parents (Single or Working) Full Time workers - Classes are flexible Students returning to school years after high school. Career Advancement (school offers certificate programs and on the job training) Students interested in joining the NAVY
Tips for prospective students Communicate with the teachers. They are well aware students attending the school have families and full time jobs. You have freedom to pick your own classes, so fit them into your busy schedule. If you are not a morning person, take night classes. If you work during the week, take weekend classes. If you are not able to give the dedication needed to be a successful full time student, only take a couple of classes and be a part time student.
Bang for the buck If students show up to class on time and with their book, they are sure to learn. Teachers are very motivating and understanding. If students make the effort to ask for help, the teachers are willing to go out of their way to help them. There are also several resources available such as tutoring centers, writing resources, and even classes to improve math or writing skills before taking a college math or English course.
Am enjoying being here The campus is in the middle of Norfolk. There are several great locations to eat at and spend down time in. Several locations offer discounts to students. There is also a large mall within walking distance.
Am learning a lot I just completed my first degree in culinary arts. All the teachers in the program are currently in the field. The education received from the chefs is more than just information from the book. The chefs share personal experiences and past mistakes, which I have applied to my own career.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are several security guards constantly patrolling every inch of the campus. They direct traffic during heavy-flow times, and they are very personable. They take their jobs seriously, and I doubt that there is much that slides by them.
Greek Life There are no fraternities or sororities at TCC.
Clubs and Activities There are new clubs sprouting every now and again, but the Phi Theta Kappa is one of the most well-known around the Chesapeake campus. The Honors Society does a lot of work for the community, the school, and their peers. There are clubs and organizations for just about anyone and everyone, and students should have no problem finding where they fit in.
Great for these types of students Tidewater Community College is great for any type of student. They are putting in new parking lots and a new student center, so I am sure everything will be top of the line and technologically advanced. With the many ways to pay for school, from loans to grants to scholarships, it will be hard not to be accepted here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are four campuses that make up Tidewater Community College, and since I have only attended the Chesapeake campus, I can only share but so much. One of my favorite places to sit and relax is outside on a brick patio with cement benches. It is down at the far end of one of the wings of the Whitehurst building. There is a lake off to the side of the patio as well, and it is calming to watch. The Chesapeake campus also has a few trails with an island that some of the professors and students keep up with.
Bang for the buck For the amount of money spent for TCC, it is certainly worth it, especially compared to many four-year institutions, and many people decide to go the community college route first because of this. The education received at a community college is not any less intense just because it is a junior college and you are spending less.
What to do for fun There is a student lounge where many of the students migrate to between classes. Some people are on their laptops, listening to music, playing games on the television, or playing games. Usually, about every month, the school will have things going on in the lounge. Dances, dj's, trivia games, a mock American Idol, and free food are often seen in the lounge.
Food and Dining Since TCC is a community college, there is not much in the way of food and dining, but there are several local places to grab a quick bite to eat. There are vending machines with snacks and drinks in the buildings though for in between class breaks.
Dorm Life Tidewater Community College does not have dorms.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of a school is determined by the student and what he or she wants to get out of it. The guidance counselors will help with the schedule so that it is the right amount of challenge and intensity without it being backbreaking or too easy. Again, use the sources available, and do something different and challenging.
Tips for prospective students Even if, as a prospective student or not, you are not sure what you want to major in, Tidewater Community College will be there to help you in any way that they can. By taking general courses, you can still get so much out of the classes. Also, do not be afraid of using the resources that are at your disposal. The writing center, library, financial aid, counselors, and open computer labs are only some of the things that are open for the use of students, so use them whenever the need arises. Ask questions when in doubt, whether of your fellow students or professors, and they will help. Remember that you are never alone, so buddy up with someone and help each other. From here, go anywhere.
In three sentences This school is an amazing option for anyone coming straight out of high school or going back to school later in life, because the variety of classes and professors are so vast that anyone and everyone will find what they are looking for in their future. There are many different clubs and organizations that will appeal to many of the students who attend this college. Attending Tidewater Community College was one of the best decisions I have made in regards to my education, and I owe a lot to each of my professors for educating not only my generation, but the generations before me and those to come.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Achievement-Oriented, Financially Strapped, and Determined. Military Retirees can gain financial benefits while they're here.
Bang for the buck Generally cheap, but what college doesn't get tricky every once in a while?
Food and Dining TCC doesn't have many food options; again, because residents of VA don't generally need it provided for them from the college. I'd imagine there are vending machines though.
Dorm Life TCC has no dorms. Generally it isn't needed for residents of VA.
Academic Rigor There are dud teachers and good teachers everywhere you go. Be prepared to become more independant if you get a dud. Classes range in difficulty, and actually some could arguably be repeat high school classes. Don't get too excited though; every teacher has his/her own way of teaching, which makes things completely different in some cases.
Tips for prospective students Keep an eye on your finances. Getting involved with the Dual Enrollment program is very beneficial if you want to start your education for dirt cheap. Talk to your counselor if you're a High Schooler in VA. TCC is generally cheaper than most other colleges, but from what I hear it can get tricky at times.
In three sentences Their motto From Here, Go Anywhere is literal. The credits you earn here are generally transferrable to almost any university. Dual Enrollment programs are available for many VA High School Students.

Food and Dining There is a canteen available; no meal plans are available.
Tips for prospective students Attend Classes Complete all work and be timely with the assignments Take advantage of any workshops or labs available
In three sentences All of the classes are challenging, and interesting. There are many choices in the course selections and have flexibility. I recommend anyone to attend TCC prior to transferring to a 4 year university.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students First year students who are either not sure of what career path they want to choose. Older students who have taken a break and have to work while going to school can have their choice of night classes. Any student that has to pay for college themselves and is seeking to save a little money.
Bang for the buck The low cost based off the fact that it is a community college is very convenient. As long as you do your research and find the very best professors, I do believe it is well worth the price.
What to do for fun This is an off campus living so actual on campus fun is not something that happens. That being said with the clubs and such that are in effect, there were always movie nights and random fun meetings. As for me, most of my friends from high school were also attending so we would get together and do our own thing.
Food and Dining The fact that there is no dorm life leaves you with no cafeteria. Vending machines are placed in abundance throughout the campuses though. I can recall quite often having fair type settings where you could purchase food made by students.
Dorm Life It is all off campus living here.
Academic Rigor TCC is one of the easiest colleges to get through. The problem lies that once you graduate and go to a real University, you are usually lost and cannot keep up with the rigorous work ethic. Best thing is to make sure you push yourself harder than what is expected of you.
Tips for prospective students If you do plan on going here, be sure to check with rate my professor. Yes, there are some extremely amazing and well known professors on the campuses. Unfortunately, they are few and far between. You will also want to check all the different campuses for classes based off the fact that there are four different campuses that all offer different classes and professors along with them.
In three sentences Overall, TCC is not a total flop for a two-year college choice. The biggest issues are the feeling of still being in high school mixed with the fact that there are a lot of older individuals as well. You will not receive the college experience and feeling of being on your own here.

Tips for prospective students If you don't know what you want to do yet go to a community college instead of a 4 year college its a lot cheaper in the end.
Bang for the buck Don't go to Barnes & Nobles to get your book they are a rip off. Go find your book on Cheggs.com or ABEbooks.com you can find the books a lot cheaper!
Am learning a lot I learned a lot about keeping on top of assignments and making sure they got in on time. It was shocker coming from high school.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The student resource center has lots of things for students to do when they have a big break between classes! They have a gym, indoor basketball court, game station rentals, and lots of activities to keep students involved!
Tips for prospective students Don't wait until the last minute to enroll or register! If you do you may not get into the classes you want!

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are security guards everywhere. they are also very friendly, which makes them easier to approach in case of an emergency.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a lake right in the middle of the school. they are currently building the new student center on top of this lake. i find this wuite peculiar but also very exciting.
What to do for fun at tidewater community college, you can join the various groups like the student body, women's group and many others.
Food and Dining the food is not that great because of the fact that there are no dorms or meal plans to be purchased. all that is available to eat is found in vending machines. this is not very healthy.
Dorm Life there aren't any dorms at tidewater. people come from home to school. this makes it somewhat inconvenient for students who would prefer to stay in school dorms.
Academic Rigor classes can be very rigorous, especially depending on the instructor. also, as you move from freshman to sophomore year, the classes become more rigorous.
Tips for prospective students make sure you speak with a counselor about anything you are not sure about. they are there to help and if you heed their words, transferring to a four year college will be a piece of cake. it is also important that you work hard and earn good grades.
In three sentences tidewater community college is the way to go! if you are trying to save money and get the same education you would receive at a four year college, then this is the place for you. the counselors and teachers are very helpful!

Bang for the buck it is a spectacular option for reducing cost.
What to do for fun the student center is the proverbial watering hole for a reason it is tons of fun.
Food and Dining the choices are out standing and there are tones of them.
Dorm Life does not offer dorms
Academic Rigor it is a good school but it is still a two year school.
Tips for prospective students i would trust other student reviews about some of the teachers.
In three sentences the school is a fun and interactive place to pursue a transfer degree. while the school may have a community college price it has a traditional school feel. the staff are friendly but that can vary.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students great for all kinds of students, incredibly diverse.
Bang for the buck tcc, if anything, in affordable. it's a great place to start for a great price.
What to do for fun tcc has a myriad of great extra-curricular activities, such as intramural sports, interest clubs, student counsel, and more.
Food and Dining there are vending machines throughout campus, and lots of places to grab food just across the street. they don't currently have a cafeteria, but are building a student center now that is supposed to have one.
Dorm Life no dorms at tcc.
Academic Rigor i only say three stars because your early on/introduction classes are typically very easy, so you get used to college, and then your later on classes get more difficult.
Tips for prospective students head to the counselors office early in the morning if you're going near the start of the semester, sometimes the wait lengthy. i always sign up for my classes online, at home, using a combination of professor rating websites and the tcc catalog, this way, i can best suit my teachers to my style of learning and my schedule.don't forget to take online classes, too! the extra knowledge and the challenge of remembering to check for assignments is good practice to have!
In three sentences tcc is a great school to get started and figure out where you're going. the counselors are knowledgeable and quick to answer questions. the wide variety of classes they offer helps cater to those who are still exploring majors, while saving money in the process.

Great for these types of students old to young, just starting out or returning, tidewater community college is great for all students that want to get an education.
Bang for the buck community college is the perfect way to get all the classes you need for a 4 year school, without having a loan amount of a 4 year school, it's as good as it gets at a community college.

Food and Dining student centers are being built as i type! which will allow current students to eat and play all in the same building.
Dorm Life no dorm life at a community college!
Academic Rigor tidewater community college has several locations, with on campus classes to weekend classes, they really do make it easy to go to school and get the education you need and want.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus is pretty safe, they are usually no incidents at all.
Bang for the buck absolute best bang for the buck. i am saving so much money just by getting my gen ed out of the way at tcc. i feel bad for my friends who are all going to traditional 4 year schools and will have tens of thousands after only two years, while i have most of my tuition paid off right now.
Food and Dining there is no cafeteria yet, but the are building a brand new student center that will have places to eat.
Dorm Life no real dorm life, most just commute to school. some live in the apartments across the school.
Academic Rigor they have the best math classes, with some of the best teachers that actually have a passion for teaching, which makes learning the subject about easier.
Tips for prospective students buy used books for sure. go to class and don't text in class, you're not going to college to text your best friends about hitting the beach after class. plus, it is very disrespectful to text while someone is trying to teach you.
In three sentences tcc is the best option for students leaving highschool and planning to attend a college. it is the cheapest college in the region, and has all the classes one needs to get through general education. it is the best option for those still unsure of what they want to do after they leave highschool.

Food and Dining For what you pay it is actually a quite decent food.

Academic Rigor If you take a full student load you will be challenged! Plan ahead, don't procrastinate or you will fail!

Categories Comments What to do for fun Each campus has a different set of activities, but there are plays, sports, and musical entertainment regularly for students.
Food and Dining Depending on which campus you go to, there are restaurants nearby for food, but on campus, it's just vending machines.
Dorm Life This particular college has no on campus housing.
Academic Rigor The teachers are thorough, and the classes are comprehensive. This is definitely a good place to start a degree or even earn a degree.
Tips for prospective students If you can, try talking to students who have already taken the classes that you're signing up for. If they had the same teacher, they can give you tips about whether or not you actually need to buy the books and which teachers to try and learn under.
In three sentences With a campus for each Hampton Roads city and plenty of classes to choose from, I highly recommend this college for those interested in a community college. You get a wide range of other students, real life situations, and teachers who you just might like learning from. This college is also has a good price per credit hour.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The food on campus is excellent and readily accessible. However, the all food and beverages all sold strictly in vending machines. Just five quarters a day will keep your thirst at bay.
Dorm Life Unfortunately, there is no dorm for this college.
Academic Rigor Academic Discipline is very important at Tidewater Community College. As students, written papers, and presentations may be required in a limited amount of time. The work required must be completed in a timely fashion. Most professors have a strict deadline enforcement and do not allow work to be turned in late. A popular solution is to get a early start. Read the syllabus as soon as the professor posts it. Make sure you have all the materials required on the syllabus and the text books for the assignments.
Tips for prospective students To prospective students, my advice is to seek a guidance counselor upon arrival. Guidance counselors play major role by helping students choose the right courses for the majors. Also, seeking the help of a guidance counselor, give students an outside view of whether or not their major maybe the right choice. Future students, do not be afraid to seek the help of guidance counselors and ask questions regarding your academic future. Remember they are here for your success.

Bang for the buck When it comes to affordability, tidewater community college hits it home. It's perfect for students who really need a helping hand financially. Categories Comments Food and Dining A bigger and better cafeteria is currently being built.
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor My most challenging courses have all been foreign language. I'm going into my fourth semester of French, and it definitely hasn't been an easy ride. However, they have been my favorite courses! I have had 2 phenomenal teachers that not only encouraged me as a student, but also inspired me to become less ignorant about other nations and their cultures.
Tips for prospective students 1. Don't buy your text books from the bookstore. There is a bulletin board hanging in the hallway with dozens of index cards pinned on it at any given time. You WILL find the book you need, and for less than half the price! 2. Print out a map of the campus and carry it until you know your way around. I'm 3 semesters in and I still get lost... 3. Try to do as much course-related research as possible on your own by surfing the school website. Another words, try to answer your own questions. Unfortunately, the guidance department isn't much help and its not unusual to spend hours waiting to be seen. Use it as a last resort.
In three sentences Not only have I had some significantly great teachers at Tidewater Community College, but I've also sincerely enjoyed a majority of my courses. I'm grateful that I've been able to assimilate into a college environment without the culture shock, and also without breaking the bank! What to do for fun TCC campus have the great opportunity to be surrounded by water. The ocean land beach can be enjoyed has well as the local ocean front strip that offers shopping, food/ dining, putt-putt, bars, and the board walk. Categories Comments Campus Safety I take classes late at night, because i work during the day. I feel safe walking to my car. They have multiple security guard walking around campus throughout the day.
Great for these types of students I think this school is a great start for someone who is either confused about what they want to do, or someone who wants to get general classes out of the way for cheap. I liked that i could take classes for cheap on things i enjoyed, like art history and i ended up figuring out that's what i wanted to pursue a degree in. It also helps that i am able to get all my general classes out of the way for a cheaper price than if i went straight to ODU.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Can't think of anything at the moment.
Bang for the buck I like that i am able to get all my general classes out of the way for a lot cheaper here than if i went to a university.
Food and Dining They are in the process of building a huge complex for dining, a gym, and daycare. At the moment we just have vending machines.
Dorm Life This is a community college. There are no dorms.
Tips for prospective students I would research everything you want in a degree on your own, or talk to teachers at some universities. I went my senior year to a counselor at the Virginia Beach campus TCC and she didn't even understand what i was trying to get a degree in. I wanted to get a masters in Art Education at the time and she kept saying either you want a degree in art or education, pick one. She didn't understand that I was going to transfer to another school that had the masters program for that degree. She was very unhelpful when i asked about the degree i should get at TCC. The only good advice i got at this school was from a teacher i had for the college survival skills class. The teacher i had was a former counselor, not sure if she was a former TCC counselor or not. She was very knowledgeable about what i was wanting to earn a degree in and gave me a lot of really good information.
In three sentences I like the open feel of the campus. I am not too happy with the counselors at the school though. I have had a hard time figuring things out because I can never get any information out of the counselors.

Dorm Life No dorm life at TCC
Academic Rigor Academic wise it can be easy and can be challenging. It all depends on the course and the teacher. There is going to be a lot of tutoring and people to help you out
Tips for prospective students Tp prospective students you may think TCC it maybe just a community college. Base off personal experience when entering TCC in my first year after high school i really didn't like the school but after getting involved with the activities and meeting people it became fun. Its not easy as you think it is, there are going to be some classes that are going to be challenging and others easy. The people and staff are very nice and friendly. Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very comfortable on campus even at night. You can find emergency phones and emergency stations all over campus. In addition, the security guards are always present if you need assistance.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of clubs and activities on campus that are available to everyone. I suggest you go check them out especially if you want to get more active on campus.
Great for these types of students For those who need a transition period between High School and a four year college. Also, it is a great school for those who have never attended college or have been out of the college scene for a while.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I have not discovered any unusual traditions and locations on campus.
Bang for the buck Books are expensive; however, you can not beat the prices for classes compared to a four year university. I love the fact that I can transfer to a new school for the rest of my undergraduate degree and have a guarantee that i will still receive the same tuition prices that i had while i am attending TCC.
What to do for fun There are many activities available on campus to do for fun. There are plenty of clubs and honor societies that are available for a plethora of hobbies and interests. For example, there is a wonderful computer club that builds computers for students in need.
Food and Dining There is always free food found around campus if you pay attention. Also, within the next year our new Student Center shall be opened and the cafeteria will be reopened.
Dorm Life There are no dorms in order to have a dorm life.
Academic Rigor I find that my classes keep me busy but I do not know how the work load compares to another college that is not a community college.
Tips for prospective students Always be early to campus because traffic can make you late. Also, do your homework because that is a bulk of your grade in each class.
In three sentences TCC is a great school for those who want to come back to school and those that have never been to college before. TCC has four locations with different programs so make sure you choose the correct campus for you. Overall, TCC is a well-rounded place to get an education.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want to re-experience high school and not make any new friends because you went to school with most of the TCC students for twelve years.
Bang for the buck The administration is terrible! They kept losing my information and dropping my classes! They blamed it on a glitch in the system. I also didn't find out what I owed last semester until the day off and when I complained the financial aid office was very rude. They also took away a non-need based scholarship because my dad makes too much even though I am paying out of pocket without the aid of my parents or student loans.
What to do for fun Sometimes they offer free concerts and activities but honestly, this area is not fun.
Food and Dining Non-existent. TCC Portsmouth has a vending machine and that's it. They could at least install a coffee counter or something.
Dorm Life TCC is a community college so there are no dorms!
Academic Rigor This is probably the only good thing about TCC. The academics are good and recognized state-wide. You can pretty much transfer into any Virginia college.
Tips for prospective students If you can afford a four year college, go! Do not attend TCC. It's not worth it.
In three sentences It is just like high school. Financial aid is rude. The administration is horrible.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The TCC campus that I attend does not have a cafeteria at this time.
Dorm Life The TCC campus does not have dormitories at this time.
Academic Rigor The lecture lessons move at an uptempo pace. A plus to the academic structure is an online school program called Blackboard. On Blackboard you'll find messages left by your professors; as well as, class and homework assignments. This is also a useful resource if you miss a class.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of your assignments. Be sure to use all of the resources afforded to you. If you start struggling in a subject, ask for help.
In three sentences TCC is a good place for students, looking to get into a four collage, to go. They have made the transition from being out of high school for over three years to a collage student very simple. My time here has been both enjoyable and exciting.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are security guards on campus all of the time. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. They will even walk you to your car at night if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable walking alone.
Clubs and Activities There is a large variety of clubs to choose from. There are over 20 clubs ranging from Christian clubs to video game clubs. If none of the clubs offered interests you then you can always start your own club. There is a basketball team, soccer, and cheer leading teams that students can choose to be a part of.
Great for these types of students If you are unsure about what college to go to or what major to choose this is a great place to explore your options without the pressure of paying a lot of money for tuition.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It pays to be a member of a on-campus club. There is a office set aside for students who are members of clubs where you can just chill out in between classes or do work in a quite area.
Bang for the buck I love this school. I was a bit disappointed when all of my friends were going off to big universities while I choose to go to a community college but I'm glad I did!
What to do for fun One of my favorite things about this college was the amount of things to do. There is always something to do or something going on. There were free movies, concerts, guest speakers, discounted tickets to shows, school sponsored trips. etc.
Food and Dining The food is very expensive for a student budget. The Norfolk campus has a student center with eateries just for the students but there is hardly anything you can get under $5. I mostly bought snacks and rarely bought meals. Although it was expensive the food was very good, but you don't get much for your money. Even at the other campuses that didn't have student centers the vending machines are very highly priced. I bought a lunch from home everyday.
Dorm Life There are no dorms. Most students live with their parents or relatives nearby to one of the campuses.
Academic Rigor Although I had a few bad experiences with incompetent teachers I've also had some of my best learning experiences in my life. I was challenged and encouraged by many professors. There is even a academic tutoring lab where you can go during all school hours where you can get individual help for any subject you are studying.
Tips for prospective students During your first few days of classes take note of your teachers teaching abilities. A few teachers have very little experience teaching or are very slack in grading and teaching. If your teacher is showing signs of absentmindedness, has a difficult time explaining questions on the subject matter, or has an unclear syllabus or assignment list don't hesitate to swap the class for a different teacher. It will save you time and the frustration of dealing with incompetent teachers. Also be involved with student events and clubs on campus. You make a lot more quality friendships being a part of clubs and have a lot more fun!
In three sentences There are four very different campuses to choose from. Majority of the teachers are passionate and knowledgeable about their subject. There are many student events and club that make the quality of student life very similar to that of a university.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is pretty safe and there is security on duty at all times. I always feel safe and secure while on school grounds.
Clubs and Activities TCC offers a variety of clubs and activities depending on the month. For example, Black History Month was full of different events for students to enjoy.
Great for these types of students Undecided or any students!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The most unusual tradition at TCC to me is the fact that there are holes cut in the corners of the trash cans on the Virginia Beach campus so that the squirrels do not get stuck. It is also very funny, we think of the squirrels as students because if you are outside enjoying your lunch, they certainly join you.
Bang for the buck TCC is worth the tuition. It is not too expensive and if you are undecided with career choices, it is a great place to start. I would highly recommend Tidewater Community College to seniors in high school or individuals that are interested in going back to school.
What to do for fun The student center offers video games, television, computer lab, and a great environment to just socialize with students. MacArthur mall is in walking distance, so shopping or seeing a movie in between classes is always fun.
Food and Dining The new student centers offer a variety of dining choices! Great time to interact with fellow students.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life on TCC campus.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging because it is college, but the professors and tutoring centers help you to succeed in your coursework.
Tips for prospective students If you are interested in pursuing your education at TCC,after filling out your FAFSA, you should sit down and speak with an advisor to come up with an academic plan. They will put you in the right direction. Do not attempt to do it on your own. The advisors are there to help so utilize them. Also, rent, buy used, or go to Textbook Brokers to save money on textbooks.
In three sentences Tidewater Community College is a great place to start furthering your education. It is affordable and they offer a variety of different resources to help with academics, personal life, and career planning. The classes are not too big and the professors are always willing to help.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You will always see the campus security walking threw each building and parking lot, there are alert buttons in all the parking lots, and you can also sign up for free text and email alerts
Greek Life as far as I know there is no Greek life other than the Honors Society.
Clubs and Activities There are A LOT of clubs to join and if you cant find what you want you can always make your own club which is actually very easy to do
Great for these types of students any student
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there are a lot of study areas in each building and some of them are kind of hidden which gives you a lot of privacy or studying
Bang for the buck less than 75% of what you would end up pay for 1 year at any university
What to do for fun No matter which campus you attend there is always some event or school club that has something fun or entertaining to do like game tournaments, talent nights, volunteer opportunties, community college sports leagues, ect.
Food and Dining Every campus is close to many fast food places, restaurants, and some even have nutritious cafes inside.
Dorm Life As this is a community college there are no dorms but all the campuses are close to everything and there are many transportation opportunities like the bus, light rail, ferry, and even walking distance
Academic Rigor The teachers really help you to learn the materials you need to know. Weather your just graduating from high school or haven't been to school in years, there's a place for you somewhere.
Tips for prospective students Weather you're just graduating from high school or returning to school after years of being out TCC is definitely the best fit. It's cheap for a good education and it also saves time. My only tip is to actual apply yourself and you CANT go wrong.
In three sentences TCC is like no other community college, this institute does not have a reputation like many other community colleges in our country. From her go anywhere, is my college's slogan and in my opinion is a perfect statement. Even without an actual degree most credits from this institute will transfer to any other public college in the country as well as a few private ones.

Great for these types of students Parents, working class, financially unstable, students unsure of major
What to do for fun You can go to the Beach if you choose the VB location. Norfolk campus is right by the mall. And there is plenty to do in downtown Norfolk!
Tips for prospective students Make sure to keep communication with professors. Take advantage of the transfer opportunities given. Do everything you can to keep your GPA up, it's not hard just focus and give yourself time to get the work done!
In three sentences Great for any student wanting to save money and do a simple 2 year degree. Plenty of resources to help transfer. TCC is very flexible for any lifestyle.
