Great for these types of students

This school is great for all types of students. There are clubs and activities for anything you'd like to try (I was in three). It's a party school and a study school. It is it's own little community and it seems from the inside of the school to not be in the midst of a large city, but you're surrounded by places to go, for the people who hate being in one place. There are great people here for those who are scared they won't meet new friends and the teachers are fantastic with working with you so you'll pass, for those who are academically nervous. All in all I'd give this school an A+ for diversity in sex, religion and race.

    Tips for prospective students

When I first walked on campus, I fell in love with it. Take a tour! It's wonderful! Enjoy the grass knolls and talk brick buildings before you decide Towson University is your home. Then if you do decide that you're home, Towson University makes you home with carnivals and other events on a day to day basis the first whole month you're on campus, so Freshmen fear not, this school is outgoing and introverted, studious, active and fun.

Great for these types of students

Students that love to be apart of campus life and work hard academically.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely check out the campus and talk to current students and faculty. That will help make your decision right on the spot.

    Bang for the buck

It is a little expensive compared to my former college but that is considering I am out of state. But not too overly expensive that I am having trouble paying for tuition.

    Will enjoy being here

Absolutely. I already met a few people from my orientation that I have kept in touch with through facebook. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and is in walkable distances to the local strip where there is a starbucks, movie theater, mall, and over 100 restaurants. Also only 20 minutes away from downtown baltimore. The harbor is so nice and many great activities to do. I am also living in the apartments which have a full kitchen/ living room and 1 and a half bathrooms.

    Will learn a lot

I recently transferred from a 4 year public college closer to my home, to Towson University mainly because of their Business Program. At Towson, they were very professional and the students and teachers knew fully what they were talking about compared to the other college I attended. I like how it is a bit challenging to get into the School of Business because that will show my future employers that I am a hard working student. They also have that exact program I want to study which is a major in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and Public Relations.

Great for these types of students

I think Towson's good for all types of students. They have activities and clubs for every type of person and everyone is given a fair chance to make friends.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest taking a tour or visiting the campus before enrolling, that will really tell you if you belong. Also i would suggest going to the on campus events, at least for the first month. In September they have a month with things to do everyday. Freshman are given a carnival which is fun to go to for at least a little while. And although many freshman don't want to take part in the planned activities on their Dorm Floor i would suggest going. I had a lot of fun on my floor and is how i made my first friends.

    Bang for the buck

I pay in-state tuition and i think its a reasonable price price for the quality of education.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Towson and am very happy I chose this. Before I enrolled i took a tour and i knew this was the school i wanted to attend. When walking around there are always people outside, unlike many other schools I've visited. The walk from my dorm to my classes isn't that bad and maybe takes 5 minutes at most. There is usually something to do every night and a lot of school programs are offered. There are a lot of clubs and I found it fairly easy to make friends. There are a lot of sororities and fraternities which is very popular here, but you don't have to be in one to have fun.

    Am learning a lot

I have just completed my first semester at Towson. Last semester I took 5 classes. I'm an art major so two of my classes are art classes. In the classes i took i honestly learned a lot. Each of my teachers went in depth in their courses and although i did have one very impatient teacher, the rest were happy to help with anything you didn't understand.

Great for these types of students

If you're a city kid, this is a great place for you. It's not in the middle of nowhere. Also, it's a great school for prospective teachers. Towson has a great education program which I'll be entering in the coming semesters.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't bring a car unless you absolutely have to. Towson doesn't normally give out freshman parking passes, and it's seriously a waster of money if you manage to get one. You can walk everywhere, and there's a bus system, so why pay for gas?

    Bang for the buck

Towson has a medium tuition/room and board rate, but I think it's worth it. There are other places I could of gone for cheaper, but I don't think it would have been right for me. I wouldn't of slide into the school so well, and probably wouldn't of done as well in classes.

    Am enjoying being here

I adore Towson! It's so close to Baltimore and has plenty to do within walking distance. There's a mall, a Barnes & Noble, a Record and Tape Traders, a public library, and a huge used bookstore all within 10 minutes of walking from campus. And Towson's campus is just fun to lay around on during nice days and super fun to go sledding on during the winter! And the food is great!

    Am learning a lot

Towson has so many classes you can choose from with great professors. There are classes I took in high school that I needed to retake at Towson where I learned so much more than I did originally. I haven't had any negative problems and was even on the Dean's List!

Great for these types of students

Anyone with a pulse. I recently completed my freshman year and had the time of my life. If you like to party, they have all kinds of places for you. If you're the more studious type, you will enjoy learning here with great professors and class sizes for every one's liking. Almost every sport is division 1 for any athletes interested. Even the food on campus is top notch. Attending Towson University was one of the best decisions. You should follow suit. You will not be disappointed.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend Towson University. Plain and simple. The campus is beautiful whether its covered in flowers blossoming during spring time or layered by a thick blanket of snow. The people there are beautiful and very friendly. The teachers are like family and are always willing to help.

Great for these types of students

Personally I enjoy going to Towson. The setting is peaceful, nice, and quiet. The great thing is that it isn't boring because the setting surrounding Towson University is similar to the city, so you can easily hang out with friends and go out and relax just by walking down the street. You can easily study outside or inside the nice, clean, and quiet library. The students are nice, you have your mixtures. The faculties and professors are also nice so don't be afraid to ask questions. I think anyone can fit into Towson because you have half and half of everything. The most surprising fact about Towson is that majority of the student population are females not a lot of people are aware of that. The only downside to Towson is that parking is awful if you're not there early you'll be surprised by how many students commute. Other than that Towson is a really great school.

    Tips for prospective students

I would take a tour of the campus to see if you like the setting and the students. It's important when picking a college to explore the setting because you want to go to school with pride rather than despising your school. I would also talk with the faculties and staff and ask for more information about majors. If you are planning to stay on campus than I would talk to students who stayed on campus and what it was like for them.

Towson is a great place for everyone!

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED. The more you get involved on campus, the more people you'll meet and the better your college experience will be. Towson has a club/society for everything out there and if they dont you can always create one. I highly recommend greek life! Going greek isn't only for rich snobby kids but for everyone. There's an amazing mix of people in fraternities and sororities and they enhance who you are through philanthropy, group study sessions, and greek socials. You'll meet alot of people and truly learn about yourself as a person.

    Bang for the buck

TU probably has the best education for the best price in Maryland. I checked out so many other school before Towson and either the education didn't measure up to a high price or a low price meant less quality, but here the teachers, students, and TU community is exceeds its price.

    Am enjoying being here

The people here are great. There's an awesome mixture of cultures and you can find your niche no matter what it is!

    Am learning a lot

The teachers at Towson are amazing. they honestly care about you as a student and as long as you're willing to put in the work they will help you get the grade you're working for. College is truly a new experience and Towson is the perfect place to teach you responsibility for yourself and preparedness for the real world

Towson is one of the top colleges for Accepting of Alternative Lifestyles (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) and most people are very accepting. I feel that races are very segregated though and its disappointing. Towson is also #1 friendly school for vegans and vegetarians. There are tons of food options, even for those who keep Kosher.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour and make sure you know what you want, especially for housing. As of Fall'10 they're finishing up a lot of construction on teaching buildings, but moving onto reconstructing a lot of the residence halls. Living on campus is always an option and tends to be cheaper, plus no RAs and there is a shuttle if you don't have a car. Also, buy points. The meal plan is a scam unless you like/live close to a dining hall (Glen complex or Newell). It'll probably aid in keeping you from the freshman 15 too.

    Bang for the buck

Especially being out of state I feel like I'm over-paying considering in-state is less than half of what I'm paying.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm not exactly homesick but I miss the quietness sometimes. I don't live in the country, but especially on campus college kids tend to be loud. I'm nota huge fan of the dorms myself but on campus actvities, clubs, organizations, and whatnot will keep you busy and there is ALWAYS something to do. I just wish they had a decent diner in the area, but the other food places are amazing.

    Am learning a lot

I'm a Biology Major/Chemistry minor adnthey have some of the best professors here. They really know what they're talking about and if you're interested and do some of your own snooping around you can find some geat opportunities for reasearch or shadowing professors in every major.

Great for these types of students

Towson is great for outgoing, social students that want to have fun but also want to get a good education.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely take a tour of the school and talk to the students. We're the ones that are going to give you a real opinion of the school. We won't just tell you what you want to hear. You get the truth when you talk to the students. Also make sure you contact someone that has a great deal of knowledge about the major that you intend to get a degree in.

    Bang for the buck

There are so many services offered by Towson. You get so much out of attending school here. The gym is an awesome perk. After visiting several colleges, Towson has to best gym. The library is massive with so many books and computers (both Macintosh and Windows). In the Center for the Arts, there are computer labs throughout the building loaded with Adobe software. In the University Union, there are tons of resources: the store, post office, Tiger Reels (the university's free movie rental service, and several more.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm a fairly shy person, so meeting people has always been an issue. However Towson is an incredibly friendly and social college. It's safe to say that there's always some sort of event going on whether it be with a club, organization, fraternities, sororities, the dining staff, or the residents in your building. I have a great R.A. that is always helping to get us involved and to have a good time at school. It is a school that loves to have fun.

    Am learning a lot

I love the classes at Towson. In high school, they make it seem like college professors have it out for the students and don't want them to succeed; so my first semester, I was petrified. I soon realized that I had no reason to worry. I loved my professors. They all had a clear passion for what they were teaching and definitely wanted to share that with the class. All of them were approachable and available. If you needed help, they'd make sure that you got it.

Great for these types of students

Towson is great for anyone who is looking for a college in order to be successful. Towson has a fantastic Liberal Arts / Business / Electronic Media and Film Programs. Towson really has something for everyone. Finally enjoy your college experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard, do what your told, follow your syllabus's. The syllabus is really the key to your entire semester. It is an easy way to get an A in any class as long as you put the effort forth. I really suggest applying for a ton of scholarships, grants, and financial aid. Every bit of help financially is awesome.

    Bang for the buck

Every college is different and it is really based on what type of college you are looking for. When I was looking at colleges I did not know what i was looking for in a college. However, Towson has provided me everything I was looking for. It has become my home away from home and a new frontier of information and friends. Towson University has definitely been a bang for my buck but in actuality if you plan things ahead of time you can possibly get enough scholarships or grants to make it even more worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

Whether you are living on campus or commuting I would recommend either. I love the campus. It is not too big or too small. It is the perfect size campus in that you can walk from class to class under 5 minutes. Though I commute to campus it isn't entirely difficult to meet new people. The students are friendly everywhere you are on campus, it's a fantastic.

    Am learning a lot

I am currently a Sophmore at Towson University and I have absolutely enjoying my experience commuting to and from campus. In a sense I am learning tons saying I am double majoring in Economics & Electronic Media and Film and minoring in Meteorology. My three majors, though they are a crazy combination, are just a small example of the schedule flexibility and opportunity offered at Towson. The teachers are fantastic so long as you make sure you do some research about them before picking out your classes. As for the College of Business & Economics, students have close access to an impressive array of internship and professional experience opportunities in many business, governmental and nonprofit institutions located near campus and in the surrounding area. There are a of opportunities to say the least. As for the EMF department, The Department of Electronic Media and Film engages a new generation of enthusiastic artists, entertainers, and communicators to share media in bold and unconventional new ways. It is gaged to build communities and create partnerships that encourage artistic, social, and cultural diversity. We explore the potential of film, video, audio, and new media to expand the imagination. Though it is an incredibly competitive environment, honestly what is another college challenge?

Great for these types of students

Very studious students will love Towson because there is no party life per se on campus. If you want to party you have to go to bars in Towson or Baltimore, and then you have to be 21. It's not like other college towns, most places you will be carded, and the bars don't need or want your business if you are under 21. However, many people live in apartments so there are a lot of private parties off campus. It's a non-smoking campus, so no one sits in their room smoking, most people just get in their cars and cruise around smoking. Also it is great for people who want an small, urban campus instead of a sprawling traditional one. The campus itself is very small and you will never get lost or need to take a shuttle to get from one end to the other. After class, you can walk a mile to downtown Towson for shopping or sushi.

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely suggest you come to Towson, as it is an up and coming college. There is a great atmosphere here, and several of the majors here are expanding my leaps and bounds. You will have a great time no matter what your major, though. However, parking is atrocious. You will pay out the nose for a parking permit that allows you to park far away -- when they don't have a special event and make you move your cars. The towing company up the road and the Towson police make lots of money. My mom was ticketed when we went to orientation, and she had her orientation sticker on the car, and my girlfriend got ticketed helping me move some stuff into the dorm, and tried to fight it was was basically told we don't care, pay your fine.

    Bang for the buck

Since Towson is an in-state school, it's cheaper for me than most other schools. I will say the financial aid at Towson is not as good as a lot of schools - my mother has started taking courses at another school and she gets more aid than I do. Towson just gives you loans, and usually not enough to pay for supplies, just for the basic tuition, housing and books. Soap, school supplies, laundry and any other expenses come from your mom or dad's pocket. My EFC is pretty low, and I don't even have a work study job.

    Am enjoying being here

I never thought I would like Towson. I never even considered it when I was looking at schools the first time. I ended up at Towson because I waited until the very end to transfer from my old school. I have been very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy it here. The majority of people you talk to love this school, and the people I have spoken with who are not pleased did not research the school before they came here.

    Am learning a lot

I started at a top acting school in another state. The beginning classes were taught by Masters candidates who had been English and Philosophy majors in college and had very little actual theater experience. The Theatre teachers at Towson are hard-core. They have lived the life, or are still working in the field, and they are training us to go out and start our careers. I am definitely learning a lot, and am slowly adapting to the strict attendance rules because the show must go on.

Towson is very affordable. I am an out of state student, and the expenses for this school is actually cheaper than the expenses of the schools in my state.

The campus is beautiful! There are always so many events and activities on campus, you'll have a hard time deciding what to choose.

    Am learning a lot

Towson has some really great teachers! All of the teachers I have had so far are very intelligent, and they know what they're talking about! They are also always willing to help students, and that's always a good thing.

Great for these types of students

Towson is great for the type of student that wants to do well in school but also wants to have time where they can have fun and enjoy their time. For students who want to feel that their college experience is really cared for, Towson is a great university for them. Not only do the teachers care, but my experience with advisors have shown that they care that I do well in my college years.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for some prospective students are to live on campus their first year of college because they will meet so many people and gain new friendships. Also, make sure to get involved on campus by joining a few clubs. Sororities and Fraternities are not the only ways to get involved on campus. Another tip is to make sure not to get too overwhelmed by the different things going on and to make sure to stay focused on school.

    Bang for the buck

Towson has great food options that are not only burgers and fries, but healthy options. The food can get expensive but it definitely is worth the money. I lived in West Village my freshman year of college, The towers sophomore year, and Towson run my junior year. Each of these dorms are very spacious and great to live in.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here because Towson has so many programs, events, and clubs that are available to each student. I live on campus so I have been able to fully experience many of the things Towson offers. The people I have met on campus are friendly and easy to talk to. I have been able to experience some of the clubs like Caribbean Association, Infinite Praise Ministries, Disciples on Campus, Club Volleyball, and many more. Towson has so many different clubs on campus that anyone can find something they can enjoy. There are also events when celebrities come, parties, concerts, and many other fun events on campus that people can attend and enjoy. It can be impossible to get bored around towson because even if a student doesn't have a car, they can ride a shuttle to the mall or even take a 15 minute walk and go there. There is a barnes and nobles, restaurants, and many more things right outside of campus.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot while attending this school. The teachers that I have had care about us as students and are always open to help us understand information better. The class sizes are a good size and allow the teachers to focus on each student and their needs.

Great for these types of students

Anyone. Towson is truly a diverse university.

    Tips for prospective students

Come take a tour! The best way to find out if Towson is for you is to come check it out first hand. On any given beautiful day in Towson, you can find a number of tours going on around campus.

    Bang for the buck

While I can't speak for the out-of-state students, I know the in-state tuition is very reasonable for the value. Towson has been consistently ranked as of late as one of the best public school values, including a ranking in the top 50 in the Princeton Review. For all you Marylanders out there, Towson is a great value.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful when there's not a lot of construction going on. Recent construction has been a major frustration for everyone, but for me it doesn't take away from the overall enjoyment of Towson. There are so many ways to get involved on campus, whether its through clubs, Greek life, SGA or sports. While Towson isn't necessarily located in a college town, it is right down the street from Baltimore and there's always a lot going on. As far as the social life goes, Towson is a very large school and it's growing by the year; getting involved on campus is the easiest way to meet people. That being said, the night life for many people is all about the bars and clubs located in Towson and Baltimore. While there are house parties, being located in a crowded suburban area makes them less prevalent than they would be in a predominantly college town. Oh and by the way, plenty of beautiful women.

    Am learning a lot

With a wide variety of majors/minors to pursue, and some great faculty with valuable professional experience, Towson is really a great university to broaden your educational horizons. Regardless of your field of interest, it's likely that Towson can accommodate you. It is also my understanding, though I haven't experienced it yet, that Towson really does a good job of setting you up with good internship opportunities.

    Tips for prospective students

Learning your way around Towson can be difficult so don't be afraid to stop and ask for directions. We've all been the new kid once. For first years I'd advise not to party too much or too hard. You have so much freedom at college but don't fall behind in your studies. There are a lot of things to do on the weekend from going to the mall, other college events, and the Baltimore Harbor is just a shuttle trip away! Plus the library is a great quiet place to study. I suggest the fourth floor.

    Bang for the buck

For in state students Towson is an affordable university.

    Am enjoying being here

At Towson you will make friendships that will last your entire life! And the free stuff they give out at events are not bad!

Not really. You could do better.

    Will enjoy being here

When I went on a tour it was hot outside and they were doing all this construction so we had to take detours all around the campus and it was awful. The campus is so spread out that you can't get a close feel for everything. The different studies are on opposite sides of the campus. I've stopped looking at this school because I didn't find it comfortable. Oh some of the dorms don't have air conditioning either.

    Will learn a lot

I don't exactly know because when I went on a tour I wasn't really shown the classrooms to get the feel of the environment. The campus is huge though and a lot of walking so you might get really sweaty.

    What to do for fun

There is a mall up the street in looking distance from the school. Also there are plenty of student groups and activities to keep you preoccupied.

    Food and Dining

The food is beyond fabulous. Its like having a chef on living grounds.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great. Towson gives you a survey for first time students of who they believe you will have a great first year experience.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are high; Its not Towson University with out it.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep your head in the books. There are a lot of opportunities and events for you to participate in, but make sure you get your work done first.

Great for these types of students

That's the thing about Towson University; it's great for ALL kinds of students! It doesn't matter where you're from, or where you plan on going in life for that matter! You will find something that suits you perfectly at Towson University!

    Tips for prospective students

Have fun, stay safe, and make sure to show up to class on time! College can be a breeze as long as you balance fun with serious academic effort. Do as much as possible while on campus; participate in extra curricular activities and take classes that you will enjoy. Do not be afraid to meet new people and always remember to be yourself! If you do these things, you'll find that college with blow by and you will have grown into a better person for it! P.S. Remember to sign up for classes early, they fill up quick!

    Bang for the buck

As a commuter, I pay less then $10,000 a year at Towson University. I save an enormous amount of money on school books, tuition costs, and other fees that would otherwise be overwhelming for a relatively broke college student. Towson is both reasonable in price and excellent in quality when you take into consideration the amount of education and proper attention that the professors of Towson University supply their students. You will not find better bang for your buck anywhere else in Maryland!

    Am enjoying being here

This campus is beautiful. Period. The construction that has been taking place on Towson University since 2008 have turn this campus from a historical landmark to the cutting edge of new architectures and pleasant environments. IN the fall, the campus comes to life with the colors of the changing season. In the winter, Towson transforms to a cool snowy paradise. In the spring and summer, Towson comes to life with activities and new and interesting people to meet. There is never a dull moment on this campus!

    Am learning a lot

Truth be told, college really isn't all about grades and the classes you take. It is more about making connections and finding out what you plan on doing with your life. Once that soul finding is complete, the classes and the grades work themselves out. At Towson, you will find the right environment to find yourself. You will meet professors that will help you succeed and, more importantly, you will discover what it is that you are best at and what it is that you would like to spend the rest of your life doing. You will learn a lot at Towson University, and you will have a fun time doing it.

Towson is a close knit type of school so my advice would be make sure you join some organization at towson therefore your active with the campus life :)

    Bang for the buck

Towson is the cheapest school the only expensive thing I would say is our books but you can purchase those from anywhere!! I recommend borrowing one from a friend or online site.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. Towson has it's own community, things you thought only happened in movies are here. There's a movie theater down the street, plays, concerts, and even a mall only ten minutes away. The campus is huge but it's so small, all the buildings are pretty close to each other so when its cold outside you don't have to deal with it as much.

Great for these types of students

Students that actually know how to balance fun and school work.

    Tips for prospective students

Please take the placement test seriously if you need to take it. I did not take it serious and had to take pre-tech classes and had to learn about things I already learned about in high school. Also study AT LEAST two days before an exam to make sure you know the material well enough to pass.

    Bang for the buck

You will gain a great deal from your Towson University experience. From the classroom to events and activities outside of campus you will learn a lot and have a great time doing it.

    Am enjoying being here

I had no idea that Towson University would be as fun of a campus as I did once I actually found out. They send you emails about activities and events they have on campus and they are actually pretty fun!

    Am learning a lot

I am impressed with the education I received so far as a student. I am getting a good deal of information from my classes. I also have not had too many problems with professors since I do my work and listen closely. As for professors with foreign accents, if they say something I do not understand I just ask them to repeat it.

Great for these types of students

Art majors, Accounting majors, Business majors, Elementary Education majors

    Tips for prospective students

Towson offers small class sizes; usual student to faculty ratio is about 30:1. Most of the buildings are very close together, which makes for a (somewhat) easy trek between classes. It also offers helpful facilities for students to explore. As a business major, I would recommend Towson. Overall, teachers are encouraging, the CBE is AACSB accredited, but facilities (like parking and computers) are horrible. When in doubt, check out the school for yourself.

    Bang for the buck

For the price I pay, I feel like the parking and facilities can be improved (while I'm still enrolled). TU is in the process of expanding--new dorms and educational buildings--which future students may enjoy. The fine art and Liberal Arts buildings do have very current equipments! But for students in the CBE program, you will have some complaints.

    Am enjoying being here

If you engage yourself, you will get more out of your experience--as said with anything you do. Towson offers a variety of clubs, organizations, and programs students can use to gain networking opportunities and insight into their field of interest. TU also has many honor societies that will help boost your resume, a very help Career Center, and (most) staff and student-staff that are empathetic and encouraging! Again, for commuters, parking is terrible. And you will run into problems during advising week, registration, and the occasional bad professor.

    Am learning a lot

Your learning experience will depend wholly on who your professors and adviser(s) are. The College of Business and Economics is overall 3/5. However, I would rate the Accounting department 4/5 because professors are helpful, really know their materials, and make sure to stay on target with the CPA/industry requirements. There are always exceptions, in which case, some professor can be quite unhelpful or apathetic. The Career Center offers numerous venues for students to learn more about self and career assessment. Club and organizations have greatly helped in defining career goals, relationships, and network opportunities.

Get involved. College is what you make of it. You can either sit in your dorm watching marathons on your lap top, or you can get out there, join a club, and make friends.

    Am enjoying being here

I did not enjoy my freshman year at Towson. It is a party school with lots of bars down the road, but you have to be 21 to get in. However, after I got involved in an honor fraternity, I started having a wonderful time.

    Will enjoy being here

I am so excited to start classes in the Fall! I already know quite a few of students going here, since it is a local school. I am close enough to come home on the weekends if I want to, and yet still far enough away from all the strict parental controls. The campus looks absolutely beautiful and I even happened to meet a couple people during my tour.

I think that every kind of student should get along very well at Towson. That is of course unless you want to have a lame time. All joking aside be prepared to walk. There seams to always be detours on campus because of construction.

    Tips for prospective students

Connect with the students around you: on your dorm floor, your RA's. Find a group like CRU to get involved with! Oh and plan on taking more time than you would expect to get to class. There always seams to be detours because of the construction!

    Bang for the buck

I know that Towson is considered a cheaper school, but I can't help but think that all schools must be extraordinarily over priced. It is cheaper for me to live in the apartments that are thirty feet from my current dorm. And all in all I think that tuition should be cheaper.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus. My roommates are so awesome that it is like God picked them out for me, which I am sure He did!

    Am learning a lot

I have found the curriculum to be rather easy. Granid I am going to be a sophomore this year, I think that the courses are bound to be more difficult as I start taking my major credits!

    Tips for prospective students

Keep a planner, Definitely go to class, Use RateMyProfessor.com

    Bang for the buck

Definitely worth it. The social and academic parts of Towson give you so much that paying the amount that you do seems like a steal, whether you're from out-of-state to especially in-state.

    Am enjoying being here

There's always something going on somewhere on campus, and it's never a mystery as to what, since all events are advertised everywhere. The events themselves come in many forms ranging from an all-day trip to NYC to bands playing at Paws. The campus is gorgeous in general, especially in the fall when all the leaves begin to change color or begin to fall all around.

    Am learning a lot

Some professors are amazing, teaching in a way thats clear to everyone and making it relevant to the real world. Other professors have unclear teaching methods, however they still provide invaluable information. All the professors are willing to help outside the classroom and easy to contact.

Towson is great for any body really, and I would reccommed students that are LGBT and looking for a friendly community. They have an awesome support program there.

    Tips for prospective students

The most important tip I could give, is to make sure you visit the school. I made the mistake of not visiting the school I attended my freshmen year before I accepted the acceptance and I ended up hating it and transferring and I am now at Towson. Do not just go on the campus tour, because you will talk to people who are programmed to say nothing but good things. Actually find real students that go there and get their prespective or maybe find groups for the school on Facebook. People are pretty open when it comes to talking about the college you attend. Most importantly make sure you are in love with that school! Do not just attend a school because your friend goes there or because they have a good program for your major. You will be paying for that school and attending their for atleast four years so you need to really be in love with it.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many groups and different things going on, on campus no stop. I love it. There is never a dry day. Their groups for all kinds of interest. And if there is not a group for your interest, starting a group is pretty easy. It is a big school but not as big as most state schools so class sizes are not big and teachers are pretty good with being available for you.

I think this school really caters to the more artistic student. The Center for the Arts is my favorite building, the people are phenomenal and the atmosphere is conducive to creative growth.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to walk, we have a large campus and quite a few hills. It's a pretty great workout. Take advantage of the campus activities, it's totally worth it to get involved.

    Bang for the buck

If you are looking to be involved then Towson offers multiple opportunities. I myself am in a frat, NSCS, the theatre department, and the tv station. Let's just say I'm a rather busy gal.

Like anything else in life you have to be open to learning in order to get all the knowledge you can out of any experience. I myself am an Acting Track student who is also planning to apply for an EMF (Electronic Media and Film) major. So far I can honestly say that I am learning more here than at any other establishment or workshop I have attended. The professors are all very welcoming and understanding who always welcome questions and comments. They love what they do, so learning from them is all the more enjoyable.

Towson is a great community and it is in an area where there is so much to enjoy. Utilize all available resources and GET INVOLVED! Towson has so much to offer!

    Bang for the buck

Towson is very fairly priced compared to many schools in the area, you get exactly what you pay for. It is important to familiarize yourself with what the school has to offer. For example, there is a gym that is open to everyone, a very nice gym. We even have a swimming pool. There is also our career center, they can help with anything from part-time employment to summer internships. All of this is included in what we pay for tuition.

    Am enjoying being here

3 of the 4 years I have been enrolled in college I was a commuter student. My previous college was much smaller than Towson so it was a very tight community. Towson is a large school but it becomes much smaller when you get involved. There are tons of student organizations to become a part of. There is something for everyone. Even though I currently live off campus I love my campus!

    Campus Safety

even though a lot of crime occurs on the outskirts of campus towson is a very safe place. towson has it's on campus police a.k.a tupd which surround almost every corner of the university. security guards are at the doors of each resident hall from 12 am- about 6 or 7 am. towson also has emergency buttons that could call security or a tupd to escort you if you don't feel safe in a situation or if you need an escort to your class or building. there hasn't ever been a point where i have felt unsafe or threatened on towson campus.

    Greek Life

greek life is rapidly growing as we speak. towson's greek life takes a big involvement when it comes to events for the school, fundraisers, and parties to go on the weekend.the greek community is always a part of big events at towson for example, homecoming. though there are no fraternity or sorority houses on campus, the greeks do the best they can to make greek life at towson as popular as they can.

    What to do for fun

there is something always going on at towson. whether it's a party or a planned school event, it is very hard to be bored at towson. the college experience is really what a student makes it to be. the key through college is to be involved. be involved with a sport, a club, and even greek life. even if you don't want to be involved in any school activities go outside your comfort zone and just get out. get out to walk around or to go with your friends to the movies. there are so many things to do and towson university's overall placement is beneficial to anyone who attends. towson is close to other campuses, restaurants, towson mall, and baltimore harbor.

    Food and Dining

the food at towson is not the best cuisine. most of the food does not seem fresh and there are only certain places that have very good food. most of the good dining halls do not stay open to available hours that college kids would typically choose to eat at. the micro-marts can be more versatile with the food choices that are sold.

    Dorm Life

the dorm life overall is a great experience. residential assistants really get involved with their floors that they take charge for. they always provide us with new information for upcoming events and news for the school. they really take the time to care and listen in times of stress or need. my ra (residential assistant) is very welcoming and friendly. she always does a good job when it comes to check up on the kids on our floor and she always takes the time to help or to talk. most of the residential halls are very nice and modern. everything is well kept for the most part. even in the older residential halls the structure and cleanliness is well maintained.

The campus police is pretty legit. They are on the scene if anything happens pretty quickly. There are emergency stations with the blue lights all over campus where you can call the police and get help if necessary. They will even escort you to your location if it's late and you don't want to walk alone.

There are also events on campus like game nights, open mic night, movie night, and a lot of other activities. There are quite of few students (upperclassmen) who live off campus and have parties. Some days there are events where you can get free things. There are also other school near by where you can go to events and parties.

    Food and Dining

The food here is pretty good. There's a chik-fila in one dining area and an area for burritos and quesadillas in another. I do think there should be more options for healthy food besides fruits, salads, and wraps.

    Dorm Life

At the beginning of the year I lived in overflow with 6 other girls and that was interesting but not terrible. I now have a permanent room and a decent roommate. The room is a little small but it is because of the layout of the building. Room size varies by building but they're livable.

You will never go hungry at Towson. There are so many different dining options, especially for lunch. Brick Street cafe is in the center of campus and usually takes new students a while to find but the have the best pizza on campus, as well as good soup and sandwich combos. Newell dining is awesome and the omlettes are so good I eat them almost everyday. So many choices even for vegetarian, vegan, or kosher eaters. Three all you can eat places, a Chic-fil-A you can use meals for, Jamba Juice, Einsteins Bagel, all right on campus. If you ever do get tired of on-campus food there are regular restaurant chains in walking distance.

Towson is located in sort of an upscale neighborhood of Baltimore County. Transportation is available to the students at a minimal fee to go watch a Raven's Football game or an Orioles Baseball game, visit the Baltimore Inner Harbor and other local ammenities. I enjoy the smaller class sizes as I get more individualized attention, especially when there is an assignment that I am struggling with.

    What to do for fun

There are a number of student groups to join as well as fraternities. The fraternity that I joined does a tremendous amount of fund raising for children's charities. Intramural sports is also available along with a student gym which includes an indoor pool.

    Food and Dining

There are so many choices. Not only do they offer multiple types of meal plans, you are close to the downtown area and can visit the local resturants frequently.

    Dorm Life

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do for fun at Towson. If you aren't participating in one of the many activities going on at the school, theres plenty to do within walking distance or a short bus ride from the campus. If you are over 21 you might go to Bateman's which is a bar in the bottom of the math building, 7800 york rd. If you don't want to stay on campus you can go to Recher Theatre for a concert, Ice Lounge to smoke hookah, or Towson Town Center (a giant mall), all just a little ways up york rd. No matter what you're into you should have no problem finding something to do in Towson.

    Food and Dining

There seems to be a dining hall or restaurant everywhere on campus. in the university union there is Susquehanna lounge where you can get your Chickfila, P-tux which is one of the best places and gets crowded fast, and Paws is also in the union. Then theres the Den, Brickstreet Cafe, and a bunch of other places in the towers and West Village.

    Dorm Life

I'm a commuter but my friends that live on campus like it. Most of the dorms are doubled and two dorm rooms share one bathroom, which is nice. The apartments are also very nice and big. They are within walking distance of campus and classes. I highly recommend living on campus for the freedom and extra activities available to only your res building.

    Academic Rigor

I transferred to Towson from a private college. Towson is much more rigorous in my opinion. The professor's seem to challenge the students a bit more and assign more work than at my old school. However it is not unbearable. You still have plenty of time for socializing or working.

Getting involved will help you make more friends and meet new people. 3. Don't procrastinate. Towson professors may give you a harder work load than what you are used to so it is important to keep up in your work so you don't fall behind and become stressed trying to catch up.

I find the food here can sometimes be a hit or miss. Depending on the cooks. There are vegetarian options that are pretty good and I like that the dinning halls stay open late. Or if that doesn't work there are tons of little food places within walking distance or at the mall.

    Dorm Life

Towson has just brand new dorms that they just built last year and are currently renovating the older ones. The off- campus housing is great too if you are an upper class-man . I would suggest going to the Towson website and looking at photos of the rooms to pick which layout you like.

    Academic Rigor

Some departments are more established and aptly funded. I would suggest taking a tour of the facilities or calling your majors department to ask questions to see what is available and if this is the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

It's always a good idea to be an active member of any school organization. It doesn't mater what it is as long as enjoy what you are doing. With a large school like Towson it's easy to get lost in the crowd. Organizations a great way to make friends. If that's not your style try a sports club or go greek.

    In three sentences

The Towson campus is beautiful with an excellent city oasis type location. There are a lot of unique qualities to offer its students. Its a great place to learn.

    Campus Safety

Towson University is very adamant about their campus safety. When students first get to Towson University, one of the orientation classes discuss campus safety and students are given the campus police offices' phone number. The campus police can also text students when something serious is happening on campus as well as if the campus is closed because of snow/power outage. There are also call boxes located on campus for students who are there late. If a student feels afraid, they can use a call box to contact a campus police officer to walk them back to their dorms.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs to join on campus and many jobs to apply for. Advisors usually encourages students to go to a club show/fair which showcases all of the clubs on campus...and there are a lot of clubs. Going to the fair helps a lot and it also gives a students an idea of what they may want to join. Clubs included writing, SGA, dancing, singing, sports, awareness programs, and much more.

Great for these types of students

Towson University is great for students who are looking for a medium size campus lifestyle. While Towson is not the largest campus around (University of Maryland, College Park is larger) it is not the smallest either. Once on campus for a week, a students will get use to the layout of the University. Class sizes vary from possibly 10-36 students unless the class is combined which would be around 60-90 students. For prospective students who want to be around many people, this is a great school to visit and attend.

    Bang for the buck

When buying books at Towson University, students are given the options to buy or to rent. If a student rents the book, they don't pay the full price, only about half or even less than that. Students who buy their class books pay full price but the school store gives them the option of a book buy back at the end of the semester which means, the store will buy the book back from them and give them money for it.

    What to do for fun

Towson University offers many social events for its students. There are many activities on campus like Toga Parties, ABC Parties, Towers Carnival, Halloween activities, Scavenger Hunts, Movie Nights, Belly Dancing, Ballroom Dancing, Fitness Programs, Dorm Floor activities, and much more. Towson Town Mall is also located within walking distance of the campus as well as little shops and restaurants located on York Road.

    Food and Dining

Food at Towson is very good. In Susquehanna, there is a deli and pizza stop as well as a Chick-fil-A. The Newell Dinning Hall offers a mini market as well as a full course buffet. Paws, a dinning hall located in the Union also has great food such as burgers, grilled cheese, salad, etc, to choose from as well as great smoothies and drinks. Towson just opened the West Village Dinning which is also a full course buffet.

    Dorm Life

The Dorms at Towson University vary in their appeal. Some dorms such as Rez Tower are very small and the residents living there have to share a bathroom with half of the people of their floor. Others dorms such as The Towers (A,B,C,D) are suite style and a student dorms with one other person to a room (with own sink) with one bathroom (shower and toilet) in between two rooms. So it would be four people to a bathroom which is not bad at all. The rooms in the towers are spacious and some have great views. All dorms need a i.d to gain access so make sure to always have a Towson One Card or I.D.(drivers license) (if guest, has to be signed in with residents of the dorm).

    Academic Rigor

After completing a first year at Towson, most of the classes taken are 101 or intro courses, maybe even, as well as some 201-300 level ones. The Academic Rigor at Towson University increases as a student rises in their course levels. The Rigor also is determined by the professor teaching the class. Some professors are harder graders and give a lot of work, while as others like to separately go over every question on a exam to make sure students understand the material on it. Note: not all professors are like this. Before taking a class, looking up the professor on ratemyprofessor.com is usually very helpful when making a semester schedule.

    Tips for prospective students

The first year at any higher institution of learning is usually the hardest. For a freshman, they have to get use to living on their own (if they are living on campus/apartments), organizing their schedule, and making sure that they have time to complete everything that needs to be completed. Always print out the class syllabus! It is the most important paper you will ever need in any class. The syllabus has every exam, paper, and/or classwork and their due date on it. To stay on top of your classes, always have the syllabus!

    In three sentences

The Roaring Tigers at Towson University is a place where fine educational learning is taught and a social life is abundantly present, if not, encouraged. Towson University is a place where students can have fun while learning in the classroom as well as meeting many peers that could potentially become life long friends. The University is a great school to attend and to further a student's educational studies.

    Bang for the buck

The In-State tuition isn't bad compared to other Maryland school, but some of the book prices are ridiculous! I've spent well over $400 on maybe 5 books before. Not a good deal.

    Food and Dining

Eh...it's campus food. There is a lot of fried stuff, and although the options are getting better, good luck if you're a vegetarian.

    Dorm Life

Some dorms are pretty good...some are not. It's luck of the draw, but all of our dorms seem to have a good sense of community. You'll definitely make friends within in your dorm if you want to.

    Academic Rigor

The upper level classes are definitely more challenging because you start to delve more into what actually interests you. But the GenEds aren't impossible, some are definitely easier than others. I honestly think that the professor makes the difference between a good class and a bad class.

    Tips for prospective students

Invest in a good pair of rain boots & an umbrella! Get out of your comfort zone Don't judge a book by its cover

    Campus Safety

Campus Police are available 24/7, and there are emergency post located all around campus.

    Food and Dining

There are so many dining halls, and so many varieties, there's no possible way for you to not like it. And if by chance you don't like campus food, there are many nearby restaurants that take TU dining points.

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm room, and I haven't even moved in yet. I will be living in Paca House and its gorgeous. You share with one other person, you have a personal bathroom to share between you two, and the sink is outside the bathroom. So there's no waiting for the bathroom if all you need to do is wash your hands. The only possible downside is that you have to clean your own bathroom, but that's not too bad compared to sharing a bathroom for the whole floor. The room comes equipped with a micro/fridge combo (which is great).

    Academic Rigor

I actually haven't taken any classes yet; but from what I heard you basically determine how well you do by how eager you are to make bonds/friendships with your professors. You have to want to past to even have the possibility of passing. Advice that was given to me; sit in the front, pay attention, make interactions with your professors so that you're just not another blurry face in a crowd, and always be prepared.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan of having a car your freshmen year, try not to go home every weekend. If you can't help it, try going back only once a month or every other two weekends. If you do plan on going back often, you may miss out on the whole college life experience. Just make sure you transition smoothly; try not to stay in the habit of high school. How you have a certain time to do something, or your parents always remind you you have something to do. In college you are all on your own, your roommate and you is all you have to start out with. Make sure you can get along with your roommate.

    In three sentences

Towson is an overall great school; the campus is beautiful, the location is perfect, and campus life is always entertaining. There never seems to be a dull moment. Fitting in won't be a problem with so many clubs and organizations to join.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities to participate in around campus. I'm currently in two myself, Feminist Collective and Fashion Club. Both clubs have hosted entertaining and significant events that were a lot of fun to plan and attend. Feminist Collective hosted Take Back the Night, an event dedicated to empower victims of sexual abuse and violence. Fashion Club hosted Fashion Speaks, a networking event in support of domestic violence awareness where the majority of the proceeds went to the Haus of Ruth Maryland. You can find out more about the different types of clubs at Towson through the university website, and find the club that's perfect for you.

Great for these types of students

Towson is great for all types of students! Anyone can find a place there because there are so many different types of people with different interests.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Freedom Square is a great area on campus to just sit around and study, or to host special events.

    What to do for fun

Towson always has several events and other fun things to do around campus. There are many different types of clubs that meet every week and you can also help organize events and activities sponsored by those clubs. Towson is also located near the Towson Town Center, a huge mall filled with great stores to shop at and hang out. There are also plenty of restaurants around for when you want to go out to eat. If all else fails just take the bus to the inner harbor in Baltimore for some city fun! You'll never be bored, there is always something fun to do around Towson.

    Food and Dining

There are several dining halls on campus. Although there are a few that are better than others, you'll still get a good meal. There's also buffet style all you can eat style dining which is always great because you can eat as much as you want for the price of one meal! There are also places on campus where you can purchase food with your meal points that you can take back to your dorm; it's a great way to stock up on food for the week!

    Dorm Life

Towson is a big school and although housing is guaranteed for freshman and sophomore year, junior year and beyond is when you'll have to start searching for a new home. Also there tends to be overflow housing as well so there may be a slight change that you'll end up with three roommates instead of two. The Glen Towers are where most of the students are placed to live in. The community is great and the location is perfect on campus, right next to a dining hall. The RA's are really friendly and they usually plan fun activities for their specific floor and sometimes the whole building. You'll never be bored!

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major the difficulty between classes may vary. However, there are Core and Gen Ed requirements that almost everyone has to take. Don't try to pack on a lot of credits at once. The most you can take is 17 and most people usually take about four or five classes so the workload doesn't consume you. It can get pretty hectic around finals week so it's important to manage your time wisely.

    Tips for prospective students

One main tip I can give is to join as many progressive groups as you can. There are a lot of them, so you should find one that relates to your personal interests. It's a great way to meet new people and to be involved with your school. Towson holds many great opportunities and it's best to take advantage of as many as you can. Also, the best way to find out if Towson is right for you is to take a tour and go to the open house.

    In three sentences

Towson University is unique. It is diverse in its programs and groups. Towson is also very fun and exciting, with several different types of events and programs to encourage students to be a part of the Towson community!

Anywhere in Baltimore is unsafe at night by yourself, but during the day, this is the place to be. Our campus police address issues immediately though.

    Greek Life

Right now, there isn't any housing available for the Greeks, but they are present and becoming more and more active on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for everyone. I'm personally in the TV Station on campus and thinking about joining a coed media fraternity.

    Bang for the buck

For in-state students, it's one of the better options besides UMD and there is literally a club or organization for EVERYTHING. The staff are helpful for the most part, and you will meet tons of people.

    What to do for fun

Party, party, and shop. There are almost no on-campus parties, but the off-campus spots are always full of students and not far from the campus (but you'll still need someone with a car). Downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor are great date spots.

    Food and Dining

Some people will complain, but there are so many options where to eat on campus and there's always a dining special of some sort going on; whether it's a buffet or a limited time addition to the menu, there's so much to eat and so many different places instead of being stuck to one or two options.

    Dorm Life

My friend is a Sigma and he lives in the dorms. He absolutely loves it, and I see why. Whenever I visit him, there's always something going on and the quad of dorms are all connected socially with each other.

    Academic Rigor

I transferred in from a private school. The classes aren't necessarily difficult compared to the private school I attended first, but they try to make up for that by giving you twice as much work. The papers are lengthy and some professors are absolute jerks in regards to office visits and overall helpfulness, but you can make it with a tutor.

    Tips for prospective students

Join a club, meet lots of friends, take advantage of the gym.

I recommend to join a Fraternity or a Sorority to really engage into social activities outside of campus like parties etc. Being in a frat/srat really helps you make friends and be more involved socially.

    Food and Dining

There are several dining halls like Newell, & there is another nice dining hall by the off campus apartments. There is a wide variety of food and the food is extremely healthy and appeitizing.

    Dorm Life

The dorms in some buildings are small, for example the Residence Tower, but the dorms in every building are comfortable. Most dorms contain a common room on the floor to bond with your residing peers, which is great to get to know each other.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers are persistent, understanding, and hardworking. It is important to keep up with your studies and to maintain a good grade in your courses. You are also expected to be a good writer, since professors often assign papers often.

    In three sentences

Personally I believe Towson is a vivid, outgoing and a beautiful campus. The university has myriad of activities to do outside of campus and the atmosphere of the campus is friendly. The campus is very large and contains a variety of personalities, as well as teachers.

    Campus Safety

Like any school, Towson has their minor crime incidents, but it is never anything too serious. Towson has their own Police department and they are very helpful if you need them. Between the hours of 2:30-6:30 Towson Police Department, or TUPD, offers a point to point campus transportation service called 'Safe Ride'.

    Greek Life

There is a strong presence of Greek Life on campus at Towson. They do a lot of charity work around campus. It is not difficult to join a fraternity either. The school has cracked down on hazing and as a pledge, you won't have to do anything that you feel uncomfortable with doing. It's actually a great investment.

    Clubs and Activities

Towson offers a huge variety of clubs and activities ranging from Greek Life, to intramural sports, to Habitat for Humanity. Whatever your interest is, there is a club or activity for you at Towson.

Great for these types of students

Students who are social, love to have fun, and love to express themselves in any way possible should benefit from going to Towson University. They are the ones who excel here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At Towson, there are three large Tiger Statues throughout campus. Many students love taking pictures on them. Also, a great tradition is dancing with the band during football games. About two or three times every home game, the band plays a great marching band rendition of the SportsCenter Theme Song. The entire crowd puts their hands in the air and sways to the anthem. It's really cool.

    Bang for the buck

Towson is not an expensive school at all, especially for in-state students, however, their Financial Aid department is very strict. Make sure you do all you can to receive as much aid as possible if you need it, and be sure to fill out as many scholarships as possible to prevent yourself from being lost in the realm of students who are too rich for financial aid but too poor to attend college.

    What to do for fun

If you're not a partier, Towson tries their best to host sober events every weekend. Even if you do like to party, be sure to stop by one of these events whenever you can because they are actually a lot of fun. So far this year, Towson has had an open Mic night, Rap Battle night, an Anime convention and much more. Also, every Thursday night, Towson hosts a trivia game where you can win a lot of great prizes.

    Food and Dining

The food at Towson is great. There's a Chick-Fil-A on campus, a Jamba Juice and an Einstein's bagels. There are also three dining halls, two of which are open 7 days a week. However, some of the food places close around 7 o clock, which could make dinner become very repetitive at times.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorm rooms at Towson are very large. They just opened a new dormitory and are opening another in the Fall of 2013. On another side of campus called West Village, there are dorms which are built to resemble Hotel style living. Whichever dorm you live in, your overall experience will depend on what you make it out to be.

    Academic Rigor

What used to be considered a Safe School, Towson University is now beginning to raise its standards for incoming freshmen, however, the work in school is not very strenuous at all. The teachers are all relatively helpful and are willing to accommodate their students because they genuinely care. You don't find that much at public universities.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in everything that you can and try to meet as many people as possible. The first weekend at Towson, there are tons of orientation events. Attend every one possible. You can meet a lot of people that way. Also, once you plan on going to Towson, be sure to join your graduating class' Facebook page. There are tons of people there who love meeting others and it's a great way to meet classmates and a great medium for selling and buying textbooks.

    In three sentences

Towson is an excellent place to be yourself while beginning on the path to success. As the second largest university in Maryland, Towson offers D1 sports and many other opportunities for students to excel. Towson may not be highly publicized, but they are beginning to gain a great reputation as one of the best schools in the area.

There are over 40 police officers that work just solely for Towson University. They are not mall cops or rent-a-cops, they are real certified police officers sworn in by the state of Maryland. The greatest part is, these officers aren't out to hurt you and get you in trouble, they're there to help you. They want you to be safe and happy, that's all. I wave to the officers on campus all the time! If you ever need them, they're just a quick phone call away, or hit the button on the blue emergency poles around campus and they'll come straight to you!

    Greek Life

I'm in Greek Life, and I love it! It isn't for everybody, but I encourage everyone to check it out to see for themselves if it's a right fit for them. If you're into philanthropy, leadership, academics, friendship, sisterhood/brotherhood, and FUN then Greek Life is the way to go! Towson has about 10 sororities and 8 fraternities, but it is always changing as new chapters join or leave campus. However, it is expensive to be a part of so keep that in mind.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs to join at Towson, over 200 groups to be exact! University Residence Government, Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, Best Buddies, Math Education Club, Skydiving Club, Figure Skating Club, Quidditch team (yes, from Harry Potter!), Black Student Union, and so many more! Towson has such a variety, you will definitely find something you like, and if you want to start your own club, you can do that too!

Great for these types of students

Towson University is great for all students. Whether you're into sports, art, music, photography, dancing, computers, math, building things, taking things apart, etc. you'll find your niche here at Towson! If you want to go out and party, go ahead. If you want to stay in and sleep or study, go ahead! You aren't pressured to change or fit in in any way at Towson because the campus is so diverse and everyone is so different- and the beautiful thing is, everyone accepts everyone else for who they are.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Before Towson's baseball field, John B. Schuerholz Park, was given permanent bleachers, the students used to watch the games from the top of the hill and whenever Towson hit a home run, everyone would roll down that hill! Even today with the permanent seating, the tradition lives on.

    Bang for the buck

Towson University, although not a cheap school, especially for out-of-staters like me, is not as expensive as other schools with great reputations. Towson gives great scholarships and helps students in need as best they can. Unfortunately, many of us are too rich for financial aid but too poor to pay for college!

    What to do for fun

Towson is only 15 minutes away from Baltimore: the inner harbor (national aquarium, orioles and ravens stadiums, restaurants, shopping, etc.) Also, there is a huge 4-story mall with over 200 stores within walking distance of campus, less than 10 minutes away! On York Road, where Towson is located, there are several restaurants, bars, clubs, stores, etc. so you're never bored. Towson University also hosts several events on campus every week and weekend including comedians, bands/singers, movies, magicians, exotic animals, carnival games, and more!

    Food and Dining

AMAZING! You probably expected me to say it tastes like cafeteria food, right? Well, at Towson the food is outstanding! There are over a dozen different places to eat on campus and three of those facilities are all-you-can-eat. Every place to eat offers healthy options as well as vegetarian and vegan, so you'll find food you like no matter what type of eater you are! The freshmen 15 is very real, so watch out and make smart choices.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms is great. DO IT! You grow so much as a person and learn so much about yourself when you leave your house and are on your own. It forces you to become more independent, learn how to take care of yourself, manage your time, and make good choices. If you run into any problems or have issues with your roommate, your RA (residential assistant) is there to help you! Meet new people and get out of your comfort zone, you won't regret it.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are definitely challenging, but if you love your major then you'll enjoy going to class. The classes truly prepare you for the future, giving you hands-on experiences, internships, and more.

    Tips for prospective students

At college, there is a ton of great food right at your fingertips, and you're going to want to dig in- especially when it's all-you-can-eat! However, don't forget to go to the free gym on campus or else you'll gain the freshmen 15 (yes, it's real!). Play hard, but study harder. Take your education seriously and you'll go far. Your professors are always there to help you, so take advantage of them!

    In three sentences

Towson University has a breath-taking campus! When you're at Towson, you're a part of a wonderful, loving family. Towson has helped mold me into the person I am today.

    Campus Safety

The campus itself is very safe - the Towson U police are right by the campus and are constantly around. They have people stationed in the dorm lobbies at night, as well as what is called TU Safe Ride, which is a service that picks students up from off campus locations until about 3 in the morning. We also have a text messaging alert system that sends out messages about weather and other activities. All in all, I have never felt threatened or unsafe on campus. The only thing to worry about is the fact that going off campus puts you in the middle of Towson and on busy roads, so if you plan to go out on weekend nights, that is something to remember.

    Greek Life

While Towson doesn't have a Greek Row, it has a very active Greek atmosphere on campus. Girls and guys can be seen all over campus touting Greek shirts and during Greek Week, a week where all the sororities and fraternities come together to compete and have fun, the campus is buzzing with more activity than usual. I know several people in sororities and frats, and they all say they love them and have met so many friends in them.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm involved in several clubs and activities on campus. Towson has several Involvement Fairs throughout the year where you can go and meet all the sports teams, clubs, and Greeks at once. I've been involved in fashion shows as a model, I do philanthropic and cultural clubs, and I know people who are on several teams who all love the athletic part of the school. Even if you don't play a sport, the fields are very close to campus so if you want to go to a game, it's easy to get to. We have all the usual clubs as well as some you may not have heard about, and a lot of the clubs are featured in the school newspaper so it's easy to find them!

Great for these types of students

It's great for students who want a small or a large school. Towson boasts an attendance of almost 20,000 but it feels so much smaller. Only about a third of those students live on campus so it feels like a small school, but most of the other students live nearby and spend a lot of time on campus, so it's easy to make new friends in every class and at every fun event. It's also great for students who plan to be outside or constantly involved in something. Towson has dozens of clubs and extracurricular activities, as well as tons of on campus jobs and sports teams. We also have what is called The Beach, a grassy hill where kids do homework, tan, hang out, and host events or concerts.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the places that a lot of students don't know about is in the Administration building - it's a cafe with amazing and cheap food as well as great places to study and hang out. Since it's in an office building, students never think to go there but it's on campus and great! Another tradition that all students have on their to do list is to take a picture on or with the Towson Tiger statues scattered around campus. Every student has or will take a picture with a Tiger, and each student even has personal favorites among all of the statues,

    Bang for the buck

While I'll admit that I was hesitant to sign off on loans to live on campus, I'm so happy now that I did. Tuition, room and board, a meal plan, and miscellaneous costs like books, all costs less than tuition alone at some colleges that my friends are attending! The meal plans seem pricey but when you look at the amount and quality of food you're getting, it's easier to pay. All in all, I'm happy with what I'm paying compared to what I'd pay at several other colleges.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of places on campus to go for things to do. The Center for Fine Arts has galleries, shows, symphonies, and tons of other things to do on weekends for either a low cost or for free, and one of the restaurants on campus has TVS and pool tables, as well as weekend fun like trivia nights, concerts, comedians, and more. Floors of dorms have nights planned too, such as tiedying and movie nights. And since campus is so close to the city, it's easy to take a quick drive into Baltimore for a museum or sports event, or even to stay in Towson and go to the mall, club, or concert.

    Food and Dining

This is one of the strongest points that Towson has to flaunt over some other schools. We have three cafeterias on campus that are all-you-can-eat, and over a dozen other places to eat ranging from Jamba Juice to Chicfila to Einsteins Bagels. Towson is also on York Road which has a 24 hour Dunkin Donuts, as well as tons of other cheap and local places to go within a short walk from campus. The meal plan system is easy to follow so its easy to find something yummy for every meal of the day, on any part of campus.

    Dorm Life

I love dorm life here! There are several different dorms, and each have their own great perks and quirks. While one building doesn't have AC, it has been known to have the most close knit community out of all the buildings. One set of dorms is off campus, but they're the nicest and newest. Each dorm has its own personality and they're all located within a five minute walk to class buildings - perfect for sleeping in. The RA's are active and present, and there's tons of fun stuff to do on each floor of each building.

    Academic Rigor

I have had some classes that didn't appeal to my interests (my math class, for example) but all of my classes provided a challenge for me and I definitely learned something in every one. While they are all manageable, Towson classes and professors definitely have a high standard of education. Even the gen-ed classes were interesting and made me think!

    Tips for prospective students

I definitely recommend living on campus. I commuted my first year to save money, and now I live on campus - making the decision to move here was perfect because I've become more independent, made many more friends, and developed as a person. If you want to commute, do so the last few years instead of as a freshman.

    In three sentences

Towson has become my home away from home, and I'm confident it is like that for every student who walks onto campus. I have grown in so many ways since enrolling here, and I can't wait to see what these next two years have in store for me. When I came to visit this campus, people here told me all the things I could and should expect from Towson, and now I realize that they were all right.

Lot's of Greek Life on campus. I plan to pledge next September.

    Bang for the buck

While this school is not cheap (especially for non-residents) it's not out of the world crazy either. My teachers are all good and the older girls I know on my team have great things to say about all the Professors they have had over the years.

There is always something going on during the weekends (and even during the week). Super Bowl was MAD! Baltimore and the Harbor are only 20 - 25 minutes away.

    What to do for fun

Towson always has stuff to do. Every weekend, there are Lacrosse games for free, motivational speakers at least three times a month, there's a mall and Barnes and Noble down the street. It's easier to list what isn't available to do at Towson.

    Academic Rigor

This really depends on what classes you take, but I am capable of keeping on top of all my work, while still being challenged creatively.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend checking out professors on other rating websites to see what quirks you can deal with. Also, pay attention to all digital aspects- your Towson email, PeopleSoft, Blackboard, etc.

    In three sentences

Towson has a great staff in the English Department, but the admissions office can be a disaster. The staff in admissions and other bureaucratic areas of school make students jump through hoops to get simple questions answered, as well as being to heavily reliant on the school website. Food and Dining

There are 16 dining places on campus. All of the food is very good, but the only issues are the workers and the dining hall hours. Hours are sort of ridiculous and the workers can be rude and slow at times. Other than those two issues, the food here is great.

    Food and Dining

I'll admit, it took some getting used to the food here. I'm used to home cooked meals. However, once you get used to the meal plan you'll love it. There are plenty of choices and variations to eat day by day. Do not feel as if you have to eat in the dining hall every day. I made this mistake my first semester. My taste buds still haven't recovered! All jokes aside, the food here isn't that bad. Some of it is downright delicious. I found myself craving a bit of it during summer. So don't be afraid to try new things. It's always better to go with a friend. Or just ask a neighbor!

    Dorm Life

I had the luxury of having a very good RA (Residents Assistant). Even without one, the floor becomes a type of community. You do not just bond with your roommate but with the people who live on the same floor. Everyone is experiencing (or has experienced) the same thing you are. It's hard to miss home when so much love is found in your residence hall!

    Academic Rigor

Really, it depends on the professor and your type of learning. I'm a visual learner, so anytime the professor would lecture without a visual aide I'd wander off into Lala Land. It's important to play off your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. I would draw a visual diagram to combat my lack of attention. Don't let the idea of a little work turn you off though. It's extremely rewarding when you walk into Exam day with confidence because you're completely comfortable with the material.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember the first day of High School? Do you remember your sweaty palms, thick knotted throat and beating heart? Well banish that fear. College will be a completely different experience from High School. First of all, the new found responsibility can be daunting but take advantage of it! Explore different aspects of society with an open mind. A word of caution; you may have known everyone in High School by your senior year but you'll more than likely only know a few. It's good to make friends but remember to be safe. Not everyone is planning on having a productive college career. Don't lose sight of your academics! Use these 4 years as your building block for a great future.
